  • Napoli boss Rudi Garcia breaks silence following Osimhen social media trolls

Napoli’s manager, Rudi Garcia, has addressed the recent controversy surrounding striker Victor Osimhen and the club’s TikTok video.

Earlier this week, Napoli’s official TikTok account, which is known for its humorous videos about players, faced backlash for posting two videos featuring Osimhen.

One of these videos poked fun at his missed penalty against Bologna, while the other made a comparison involving a coconut.

Osimhen was understandably upset by this situation and took down all images of himself in a Napoli jersey from his Instagram account. His agent, Roberto Calenda, even issued a legal warning to Napoli.

Although the videos have since been removed, reports indicate that Osimhen has not yet received an apology from the team. Despite this, Garcia attempted to downplay the incident after witnessing Osimhen score in a victory against Udinese on Wednesday.

“Over the last two days, there was a bit of trouble with some clumsy behaviour,” Garcia told DAZN after the game. “Nobody wanted to be hurtful, not TikTok with the video of Victor, nor Victor by taking his photographs down on social media.

“Nobody intended to hurt anyone; these are instinctive reactions and are understandable.

“It is his social media account; he can do what he wants with it. All I can say is that he loves this jersey and will give everything for Napoli this season as well.”

Due to the controversial social media posts, there have been doubts regarding Victor Osimhen’s future with the club.

The Nigerian star played a pivotal role in Napoli’s last season, helping them secure the Scudetto after a 33-year drought with an impressive tally of 26 goals.

As a result, he is expected to attract interest from Saudi Arabian teams when the January transfer window opens.

Furthermore, reports suggest that top European clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid have shown interest in signing the striker.

Despite the recent controversies, Osimhen showcased his skills by scoring a goal for Napoli in their recent match against Udinese.

Fans can look forward to seeing him in action once again when Napoli faces Lecce on Saturday, September 30th.

  • Enough of the silence, you have to speak now – Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe tells Kufuor, Otumfuo, others

Founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has called upon influential figures like former President John Agyekum Kufuor to address the concerning state of governance in the country.

He made this plea during an anti-corruption forum organized by Togbe Afede, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State.

During the forum, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe expressed his deep concern for the nation and stressed the urgent need for influential personalities, including former President Kufuor, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the National Chief Imam, and Archbishops, to raise their voices in the ongoing discourse on governance.

He firmly believes that the country is currently facing imminent danger, and he pointed out the failure of certain leaders to speak out, which, in his view, is pushing the nation towards a catastrophe.

Addressing former President Kufuor directly, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe urged him to break his silence on the state of affairs, stating, “I would like also to bring to the attention of former President Kufuor that it is time to talk, he has been too silent and because he is refusing to talk it is leading this country into a disaster.”

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe firmly conveyed his belief that the current state of affairs in the country reflects President Akufo-Addo’s ineffective management of national affairs.

He specifically highlighted concerns regarding the actions of the Electoral Commission and cautioned about potential consequences if these issues are not addressed.

“This country is facing danger if you just take a careful look at what the Electoral Commission is doing – the signals are there,” he cautioned.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe’s heartfelt plea emphasizes the immediate need to tackle governance challenges and underscores the significance of influential figures using their voices to advocate for the nation’s welfare.

  • Alan’s resignation, a prompt for party soul-searching – Boakye Agyarko

Former presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has offered his perspective on Alan Kyeremanten’s departure from the party.

He emphasised that Alan’s decision to leave the party after many years should prompt soul-searching within the party rather than being a cause for celebration among some party members.

Agyarko also noted that while Alan’s resignation is public knowledge, there may be others within the party who have mentally resigned and are only waiting for the elections to officially abandon the party.

“At least my brother Kyerematen has put his thoughts and feelings on paper for all to appreciate. How about the many who harbour similar and maybe more petulant sentiments in their hearts but are not openly expressing same?

“There are many in our party today who, out of dismay, resigned in their hearts and are only waiting to walk away from us at the ballot box,” he said in a statement.

Furthermore, the former campaign manager for President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of party executives in reconciling differences and comforting disheartened members at all tiers of the party.

Alan Kyerematen’s choice to contest the 2024 presidential elections as an independent candidate stemmed from his belief that the NPP had experienced substantial transformations, straying from its traditional identity.

  • I had had enough of the finance minister, so I suggested IMF – Alan Kyerematen

Alan Kyerematen, an independent presidential hopeful, has revealed that he strongly advocated for Ghana to seek assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during a challenging economic period.

He made this disclosure as a reaction to critics who say the former minister for trade and industries didn’t speak up when the economy was in a dire situation on Citi TV.

Alan Kyerematen indicated that the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, often provided excuses about potential solutions to the country’s economic challenges.

According to him, he was the one who made a strong case for Ghana to seek assistance from the Bretton Woods Institutions (IMF).

“If a party takes a decision, does it require the minister of trade and industry to be speaking of corruption when the minister of finance is there? I was not appointed to the job of minister.

“I can put it on record that and the minister of finance cannot deny this, and the vice president himself cannot deny this as well. I was a member of the economic management team and the people who have been part of this system will tell you that I was the one who at the time when it became clear that the numbers were so bad, made a strong case that we are not going to listen to the wailing of the minister of finance again,” he stated.

    Alan Kyerematen (R) and President Akufo-Addo (L)

He continued, “Always giving excuses about what he can do to turn it around and all that, I made a strong case that the minister for finance has no basis for going around saying that we will not go to the IMF because he is unable to provide any alternative. I told them that where we were at the time, we had no choice but to go to the IMF if they were true.

He further pointed out that when the President eventually decided to seek assistance from the IMF, he was the first high-ranking official to publicly defend the decision

“So, when the president finally made the decision, I was the first person in a leadership position who went publicly to defend the position of the IMF. Did you hear the vice president or the finance minister come to defend the IMF?”

It’s worth noting that Dogboe is now under new management, known as Rising Star African Promotion (RSAP), having parted ways with his father and former trainer, Paul Dogboe, in 2021.

The club’s TikTok account had posted a video of Osimhen protesting for a penalty and subsequently missing it, accompanied by laughter in the background.

Another video had labeled him as a “coconut.”

    https://youtu.be/1eXCxKD-NUQ

Although these videos have been removed, Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, confirmed their intention to pursue legal action against Napoli.

This situation has led to a noticeable disconnect between Osimhen and his teammates.

  • Ancelotti bench Bellingham, striking missing out of squad for Las Palmas game

Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham will not be in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting lineup for the match against Las Palmas on Wednesday.

Brahim Diaz is expected to take his place in the starting XI.

Bellingham, who had started all seven of Madrid’s previous games this season and played 620 minutes, will be on the bench along with Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, and the now-fit Vinicius Jr.

Madrid has won five of their six La Liga matches and was on a five-game winning streak until their recent loss to Atletico Madrid.

They received a boost from Barcelona’s draw with Mallorca and have the opportunity to take the top spot in La Liga if they return to winning ways.

Following the Las Palmas match, Madrid will prepare for a top-of-the-table clash against Girona on Saturday, possibly with Bellingham being rested in consideration of that important showdown.

  • Pep upset about team’s bus travel to Newcastle due to flight ‘problems’

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is concerned that his team could become fatigued due to the inability to fly back home after their Wednesday match against Newcastle.

City’s usual practice after an away match is to fly home to Manchester, but they will be forced to embark on a lengthy bus journey this time because of plane-related issues, as explained by Guardiola.

The reigning European and English champions will return later than planned due to this five-and-a-half-hour bus trip, with their estimated arrival in Manchester around 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Subsequently, they will have to travel to Wolves on Friday for preparations ahead of their Premier League match on Saturday. Guardiola is anxious about the physical condition of his players given this demanding schedule.

“After the game we cannot come back by plane because of a problem – something for the planes,” he told reporters. “We don’t have a plane to travel back, so we have to take a bus. It’s two or three hours later that we will arrive here – so, so late, arriving on Thursday.

The day after, Friday, we travel to Wolves, so that’s what you have to think about.

“Then we go to Germany to play [RB] Leipzig in the Champions League next week. That’s a really important game for us, because we know what it means to be able to win there to qualify for the next stage.

“I don’t know what happened [with the aeroplane] . The team manager told me. It happened with the previous one, I think in London.

It’s not a problem with the bus, but we will arrive much, much later than we expected, but it is what it is.”

City will hope to maintain their perfect start to the season by beating Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

  • FA slaps Chelsea’s Reece James with charge following his abuse of official at Chelsea-Aston Villa clash

Chelsea captain Reece James is facing charges from the Football Association (FA) for confronting an official following his team’s loss to Aston Villa.

The FA has accused him of using “improper and/or insulting and/or abusive words” towards the official.

James, 23, was not part of the Chelsea squad that suffered a 1-0 defeat against Villa on Sunday.

He has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained in the team’s first Premier League match of the season against Liverpool.

Despite not playing, James attended the match and confronted the official after the game, potentially leading to a suspension.

A statement read: “Reece James has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 following Chelsea’s Premier League game against Aston Villa on Sunday, September 24.

It is alleged that the defender engaged in inappropriate and/or offensive and/or abusive language and/or conduct towards a match official in the tunnel following the match.

Reece James has until Friday, September 29, to provide a formal response to this charge.

While he aims to expedite his recovery from injury, James must address the FA’s allegations before any potential disciplinary action is taken.

  • See alleged photos of Ariana Grande, Ethan Slater together after rumoured cheating scandal

Ariana Grande’s connection with Ethan Slater has been the subject of ongoing discussion on social media due to its somewhat controversial nature.

For the first time since their relationship became public and divorce papers were filed, the two were recently seen spending time together at Disneyland.

Ariana Grande, Ethan Slater Spotted in Disneyland
The former Nickelodeon alum and the “Spongebob Squarepants: The Musical” actor were spotted touring the happiest place on earth earlier this week.

Photographs of them were sent to Deuxmoi, a renowned social media entertainment insider. In these images, the two were observed holding hands while dressed discreetly.

Although the photos do not reveal their faces, they were captured being escorted by a park attendant as they enjoyed the amusement park’s rides.

To maintain a low profile in the bustling amusement park, they both opted for loose-fitting sweatshirts and baseball hats.

The two have faced criticism on social media due to their relationship. Slater, who is married and has one child with his wife, entered into a relationship with Grande.

While it was stated in Grande and Dalton Gomez’s divorce documents that there was no overlap between her marriage to Gomez and her involvement with Slater, some have pointed out that Slater and his wife were still married at the time.

Earlier this month, Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez officially initiated their divorce proceedings. According to the filings, Grande has requested the enforcement of their prenuptial agreement, with particular emphasis on her jewelry being recognized as separate property and assets.

Remarkably, despite their divorce, Grande and Gomez have maintained an amicable relationship.

On the contrary, the divorce between Ethan Slater and his wife appears to be more contentious.

Sources claimed that Jay was “completely blindsided” with her estranged husband’s relationship with the pop star.

Jay slammed Grande in a Page Six exclusive interview: “[Ariana’s] the story, really. Not a girl’s girl,” Jay told us at the time. “My family is just collateral damage.”

  • How one Chinese company is killing all Ghanaian businesses in petroleum industry

Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu and former Deputy Energy Minister, John Jinapor, have expressed concern about the permission granted to Chinese entities to import 300 tankers.

His comments came after energy expert Kwame Jantuah issued a warning that the increasing presence of Chinese tanker drivers in Ghana’s petroleum sector could lead to capital flight and weaken the local currency, the Cedi.

Jantuah explained that the Chinese might convert their earnings from Cedi to dollars and repatriate them, thereby exerting pressure on the local currency and exacerbating its challenges.

While acknowledging the importance of foreign investors for the local economy, John Jinapor emphasised the need to safeguard the interests of local players and ensure their prominent participation in the petroleum sector.

According to local tanker drivers, approximately 300 tanker trucks have already been imported into the country.

Speaking on the Sunrise show on 3FM with Johnnie Hughes on Wednesday, September 27, Mr. Jantuah, who is also a private legal practitioner, remarked, “One thing we should be mindful of is that the Chinese are always strategic in what they do.”

“They have a refinery; they have the raw materials; they now have tankers; the next thing you see is that they have petroleum garages.”

He added, “The most serious aspect is the capital flight issue. We need dollars in this country; the Cedis that they [Chinese] will earn from refining petroleum products, will have to change into Dollars, they are taking dollars out of the system which affects our Cedi, and we cannot allow that to happen.

“The money that they make goes into their banks, not our banks; we have to ensure that the money stays in our banks for development.”

“Investment is good but if that investment is going to spoil Ghanaian businesses, we don’t need it,” he stressed.

John Jinapor, a former deputy energy minister and member of parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, commented on the same programme and questioned why the Chinese were allowed to import 300 tankers.

Although he said that international companies should be allowed into the nation, he also said that they couldn’t compete with domestic companies.

“Why will a Chinese company bring 300 tankers into this country?” he asked.

He added, “Inasmuch as you want to do business in Ghana, don’t kill our local businesses.”

He further assured that the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament will further project the concerns of the local tanker drivers and ensure that their interests are protected.

Deputy Minister of Energy, who is also a lawmaker for Sekondi, Andrew Egyaper Mercer, assured that efforts were underway to protect Ghanaians in the petroleum sector.

“We are not losing sight of the need to protect Ghanaian investors and also the need for foreign investors,” he said.

He added, “We will ensure that they [Chinese] do not operate to the disadvantage of locals.”

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has already written to Sentuo Refinery Limited, the Chinese company that is reported to have imported the tankers into the country, expressing concern about this action.

  • Selena Gomez expresses regret for allowing ‘third party involvement’ in her life

Selena Gomez offered a rare and candid glimpse into her life through “My Mind and Me,” a documentary that allowed her to share her deepest emotions.

The documentary delved into Gomez’s journey as she confronted mental health challenges, battled body dysmorphia, navigated life in the public eye, and dealt with her health condition.

However, in 2023, Gomez appeared to have some regrets about this decision.

Selena Gomez Regrets ‘My Mind and Me’
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter and Gomez, Universal Music Group CEO Sir Lucian Grainge, and Thrive Global CEO Arianna Huffington, the Grammy-nominated singer confessed what she thought about the documentary in retrospect.

Apparently, Gomez was “very against it.”

“There was a very long period of time where I just didn’t know if it was a good idea,” Gomez revealed. “I knew, eventually, that one day I wanted to maybe just be an actress for a while, and I didn’t know if it would jeopardise things in my life. I don’t know what I’m doing—letting people into my life. And then, the moment it was released… I had no choice at that point. And I was relieved. I felt like a huge weight was lifted.”

Apple TV distributed the documentary. It garnered critical acclaim, with The New York Times noting its “honest portrait study of stardom and mental illness.”

“It’s far from the first music document to reveal that it can be lonely at the top, but it is among the few to convey that there are no easy answers for that when mental illness is at the root.

Of all the portrayals of pop superstars that have been produced in-house in recent years, “My Mind & Me” is probably the one with the least celebratory third act, which is something to celebrate,” Variety said about the documentary.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FVANm86rBI

For some, reliving that trauma again by watching the documentary might trigger one’s memories. Gomez experiences that too. She admitted that it has become” very hard” for her to watch the documentary.

“I will never watch it again, but I’m very proud of it. I couldn’t have been luckier to have the people that worked on it with me,” she continued to say.

Although Gomez has taken some steps back from the documentary, it has garnered significant recognition within the industry.

In November 2022, the Critics Choice Association awarded it the Seal of Female Empowerment in Entertainment, while both the MTV Movie & TV Awards and iHeartRadio Music Awards acknowledged it as the Best Documentary of 2022.

Additionally, the documentary has received a nomination for a Primetime Creative Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming, credited to Alek Keshishian and Paul Marchand.

Frequently, the pop star would be seen wearing revealing outfits, showcasing her dance moves in front of the camera, all to be shared with her vast online following.

However, a recent video of hers raised alarm as she seemed to be dancing while holding two knives, posing a significant safety risk.

On her official Instagram account, the “Gimme More” songstress posted a video where she can be seen donning a crop top and swimsuit bottoms, energetically dancing in her living room.

In the backdrop, her dogs were observed as spectators.

However, what set this clip apart was her holding two knives in each hand while spinning and dancing to the music.

“I started playing in the kitchen with knives today,” she wrote in the caption.

She later assured her followers that the knives were not real and it appears that she did it for Halloween.

Britney Spears Fans Concerned Over Her Well-Being
Although the comment section for her post had been turned off, fans still expressed their concern on social media.

“she almost hurt herself and her dogs. she needs help,” one wrote.

“It looks like Britney Spears might have cut herself during her whole knife routine yesterday. She appears to have Cuts on her thigh, and a bandage cover a cut wrist,” another one wrote.

“She makes me sad sometimes. 🙁 ” one posted.

“I don’t really know anything about Britney Spears but as long as she doesn’t actually drop a knife and hurt one of those dogs, I’m fine with this. It’s the old running with scissors thing,” one wrote.

The recent development follows rumors circulating online about Spears’ team preventing her from participating in sit-down interviews to promote her upcoming book.

According to sources reported by Page Six, one of the primary reasons for their reluctance was her Instagram videos.

Various television networks, including “60 Minutes,” have been actively pursuing an interview with Spears, but it appears that this prospect won’t materialize in the near future.

However, another insider claimed that it’s all on the singer if she wanted to be interviewed or not, as they noted, “She’s a free woman. She’ll decide. It’s her choice.”

  • Probe into Ofankor collapsed building in jeopardy as caretakers clear site

The Engineering Council has stated that conducting a comprehensive forensic investigation into the collapsed Ofankor building will be difficult.

This is due to the fact that the building’s owners and caretakers violated a prior directive by clearing and disposing of all debris from the site.

“The Engineering Council, through two of its collaborative agencies, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana Police Service, were the first to visit the site to undertake an initial assessment.

“Since the building was in a walled compound, strict instructions were issued to the caretaker of the project to keep the place locked and nothing interfered with on the site until Monday, when a technical team from the Engineering Council was to visit.”

“Unfortunately, by the time the team got to the site on Monday, the owners and caretakers had cleared and disposed of the entire debris away from the site,” the council complained in a statement.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FapcrRtUG1Y

The Engineering Council, in the statement, however, said, together with other stakeholders, they will do their best to undertake the probe into the disaster using the information available.

“Together with its partners (Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, National Disaster Management Organisation, Local Government Service, Architects Registration Council, as well as the various professional institutions within the built environment), the Engineering Council will nonetheless do its utmost to ensure that it undertakes as much investigation as available debris, access to the site and information from the necessary collaborative state entities will enable,” it stated.

The Council therefore reminded the public that anytime there was a disaster, such as a building collapse, the location became a crime scene for which reason any attempt(s) to tamper with anything on site was a crime and hampered effective investigations into the disaster.

“The critical outcomes of this investigation will be shared with the relevant state authorities as well as the general public, together with recommendations to guide all affected parties,” the council added.

The collapse of the three-story building, located behind the Ofankor Market near Asofan, occurred over the weekend. The exact cause of the collapse remains unclear, but some sources attribute it to the heavy rains that had fallen the day before. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.

An alert worker at the construction site noticed signs of an impending collapse and promptly sounded the alarm, ensuring the safe evacuation of all individuals from the area.

  • Ghana’s best bet for development is an independent president – Alan

Presidential candidate hopeful for the 2024 elections, Alan Kyerematen, has expressed the belief that the most significant development for Ghana’s political landscape would be the election of an independent candidate as the nation’s president.

Proposing himself as this alternative to the prevalent two-party system in the country, Kyerematen stated that, if elected as an independent president, he would seek out leaders from both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“This will be a watershed development in the history of Ghana.

To get an independent candidate as president will be the best thing that happened to Ghana because here, we have a referee who is an honest broker between one elephant and one umbrella; two parties fighting, who brings the two together, and who can appoint ministers from both the NDC and the NPP,” he explained.

Alan Kyerematen made this known during an interview on TV3 on Tuesday, September 27, 2023.

Alan Kyerematen announced his divorce from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday, September 25, 2023, declaring his intention to still become president of Ghana, but as an independent candidate.

  • Best friends turned rivals, the story of Pele and Kwasi Appiah – One Man Supporter recounts

President of the Ghana Supporters Union, Abraham Boakye, alias One Man Supporter, has revealed that former Black Stars greats Abele Pele and Kwasi Appiah were best friends.

According to One Man Supporter, the Black Stars captaincy issue in 1992 birthed the rivalry between the two.

“They were best friends… They were both called to the Black Stars in the same year, so whenever Abedi came to Kumasi, he was always with Kwasi Appiah,” he told Wontumi radio.

He described how Kwasi Appiah was initially chosen as the Black Stars captain before Ghana’s match against Nigeria in Kumasi. This led to the captaincy dispute.

“We faced Nigeria in Kumasi when we regrouped our team. At the time, Opoku Nti was the interim captain and there was no substantive captain…They had not named a captain but people were speculating that it would be Abedi others said Kwasi Appiah.

“They(the technical team) waited until Sunday when the players had left their hotel for the stadium and while they were in the dressing room, CK Gyamfi and the other handlers called Abedi and Kwasi Appiah and told them that ‘we want to name the captain but we don’t know who played for the Black Stars firt‘.

“So Abedi responded that they both featured in the same game but he started from the bench whereas Kwasi Appiah started the game’…So they named Kwesi as the captain,” he said.

Kwasi Appiah led the team throughout the qualifiers only to lose the captaincy to Abedi a few weeks before the start of the 1992 AFCON in Senegal.

“So when we qualified and went to Lisbone for two weeks of training before the trip to Dakar, that was when CK Gyamfi and the others said Abedi is fluent in French (so he should be the captain). Abedi didn’t play in any of the games in Lisbone, Poku Nti was the best man. So it was a day before they departed to Dakar; that was when they said Abedi is fluent in French so he was named captain and that triggered a lot of issues.”

Many Ghanaians believe that the captaincy dispute had a detrimental impact on Ghana’s chances of winning the AFCON. Several players who were part of the squad have indicated that it led to divisions within the team.

Further complicating matters, there was another unexpected change in captaincy during the tournament when Anthony Baffoe was appointed captain after Abedi Pele was suspended. Some players argued that Tony Yeboah was more deserving of the captain’s armband.

Prince Polly, a squad member, pointed out that this decision severely undermined the team’s confidence going into the final match.

“The captain’s band was a minor issue which should not have derailed our ambition to win the trophy at stake but it got out of hand due to how it was handled.”

“The manner in which it was handled changed the mood in camp and dampened team spirit just before we went into the match against Cote d’Ivoire,” Polley told Graphic Sports Online.

He noted that “just after the announcement of the change of captaincy, a state of despondency was created in the hall and we were quiet as if we had lost a valuable item. For me, it was the team spirit that was sapped from us before such a crucial match.”

Tony Yeboah, speaking about the event, said, “To be honest, I was very surprised and at the same time, the Kumasi group was shocked so it was affecting us during the game. They knew I was the assistant captain,” Yeboah said in an interview with Kwabena Yeboah on GTV.

“That time, Tony Baffoe was new to the national team and shouldn’t have been captain. I think this situation has affected us a lot. Before the game, Otto Pfister told us that we had a letter from Ghana saying that Tony Baffoe should be captain. Everybody was shocked and it affected the team,” he said.

  • CAS rules against Wilfred Osei Palmer’s case against GFA regarding Joseph Paintsil

In a recent ruling handed down by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Wilfred Osei Palmer, the owner of Tema Youth, faced a major setback in his ongoing legal battle against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding the transfer of player Joseph Paintsil. C

AS’s decision represents a significant development in this ongoing dispute.

The crux of the matter revolves around the transfer of Joseph Paintsil and the associated financial obligations.

Initially, the GFA Appeals Committee issued a verdict that mandated Tema Youth FC to make specific payments related to Paintsil’s transfer.

These financial obligations included EUR 688,000 to Young Red Bull FC, EUR 150,000 to the GFA, and EUR 150,000 to the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA).

Wilfred Osei Palmer contested the GFA’s decision and elevated his case to CAS, aiming to secure a reversal of the financial obligations imposed by the GFA Appeals Committee.

His appeal sought to challenge the original decision and potentially annul the financial penalties.

However, CAS has now rendered its verdict, rejecting Wilfred Osei Palmer’s appeal.

This ruling upholds the GFA’s previous judgment regarding the financial obligations tied to Joseph Paintsil’s transfer.

Consequently, Tema Youth FC remains obligated to fulfill the payments as specified in the GFA Appeals Committee’s decision.

This CAS decision represents a substantial legal setback for Wilfred Osei Palmer and Tema Youth FC in their ongoing dispute with the GFA.

The financial penalties remain in effect, highlighting the GFA’s authority in matters of this nature.

It’s important to note that CAS decisions are typically conclusive and binding, offering limited avenues for further appeals.

  • Ukraine poised to boycott Russia involved competitions after lifted UEFA ban

Ukraine has firmly declared its refusal to participate in tournaments featuring Russian teams.

This decision comes in response to UEFA’s recent announcement of its intention to reintegrate Russia’s under-17 teams into European competitions.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) called upon UEFA to reconsider its decision and also encouraged other nations to abstain from competing against Russian teams.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, UEFA initially suspended all Russian teams, including both national and club sides, from participating in its competitions.

But UEFA said on Tuesday that “children should not be punished for actions whose responsibility lies exclusively with adults”, and that Russian U-17 sides would be readmitted to UEFA competitions “in the course of this season”.

“UAF strongly condemns today’s UEFA decision on the return of U-17 teams from the Russian Federation to international competitions,” the UAF said, urging UEFA to stick to its blanket ban on Russian teams.

“UAF confirms that we will not take part in any competitions with the participation of Russian teams and appeals to other UEFA member associations to boycott possible matches with the participation of teams from the Russian Federation, subject to their admission.”

The decision to reintegrate Russian teams into competitions “in the midst of hostilities conducted by the Russian Federation against Ukraine is groundless and such that it tolerates Russia’s aggressive policy,” according to the statement.

England’s Football Association responded to UEFA’s decision on Tuesday by declaring that its youth teams would not engage in matches against Russia.

The U-17 men’s European Championship finals are scheduled to be held in Cyprus next year, while the women’s tournament will take place in Sweden.

Ukraine’s sports ministry has taken a stance by prohibiting Ukrainian national sports associations from sending delegations to compete at events where Russians or Belarusians were participating. Belarus allowed its territory to be used as a launching point for Russia’s invasion.

Despite this stance, Ukraine’s football association clarified that its senior team would continue to take part in qualifiers for Euro 2024, even though the Belarusian team is competing in a separate qualifying group.

  • Barcelona contemplate permanent Cancelo, Felix deals

Felix disclosed that he willingly accepted a significant reduction in his salary to enable his transfer to Barcelona on the final day of the transfer window.

So far, he has made five appearances for Barca, scoring three goals and assisting two more.

Deco commented that he isn’t astonished by the forward’s impressive start at Camp Nou.

“I’ve known him since when he started to play in Portugal,” he said. “I’ve seen him play at Benfica. He has always been a different player, with a distinct quality. Much has been said about his price and much less about his game. I’m happy he is enjoying playing with us.

“The important thing is that he is happy, enjoying himself and that he is contributing important things not only on the pitch but also in the locker room. He is a spectacular person, and we are all happy with him.”

  • LaLiga giants pursue Nico Williams

Sport reports that both Real Madrid and Barcelona have expressed their interest in acquiring Athletic Club forward Nico Williams.

The 21-year-old player is currently in the last year of his contract, potentially making him available on a free transfer next summer.

Williams has yet to commit to a contract extension, and it’s been noted that Barcelona has already initiated contact with his representatives.

Moreover, there’s apparent attention from several Premier League clubs, with Williams having received offers from English teams during the summer transfer window.

This interest might reignite as clubs from outside Spain can explore the possibility of a pre-contract agreement in January.

Williams showcased his skills last season with six goals and four assists in 36 league appearances.

He’s also been in fine form while representing Spain, contributing to four goals in recent Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Georgia and Cyprus.

  • Osimhen likely to sue Napoli for social media mockery after penalty miss

Roberto Calenda, the agent of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, has issued a strong threat of legal action against Napoli.

This comes after the club posted a video that was perceived as mocking their star player.

Calenda expressed his concern, stating that the club’s actions had inflicted “very serious damage to the player.”

In a statement released on the messaging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), he strongly criticized the video shared by the club through its TikTok page.

“What happened today on Napoli’s official profile on the TikTok platform is not acceptable. A video mocking Victor was first made public and then, but now belatedly, deleted,” said Calenda.

He also indicated that the entourage could take legal action against Napoli in an effort to protect their client.

“We reserve the right to take legal action and any other useful initiative to protect Victor.”

Napoli’s official TikTok account ridiculed Osimhen for his missed penalty during their goalless draw against Bologna on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

Following the match, the club’s TikTok profile posted a video depicting Osimhen appealing for a penalty and subsequently missing it, accompanied by background laughter. Additionally, another widely circulated video referred to Osimhen as a ‘coconut.

  • Osimhen deletes all Napoli related content on his Instagram

Nigerian and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has taken the step of removing all Napoli-related content from his Instagram account following an incident where the club mocked him on social media.

Osimhen has purged his Instagram profile of any posts or references related to Napoli, including edits to his biography and the removal of any official club-related content.

The controversy arose when Napoli’s official TikTok account ridiculed Osimhen for his missed penalty during a goalless draw against Bologna on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

In this match, Osimhen, who had been nominated for the 2023 FIFA Men’s Best Player of the Year award, failed to convert a critical penalty opportunity in the 72nd minute, with the ball going wide.

Following the game, Napoli’s TikTok account shared a video featuring Osimhen’s penalty protest, accompanied by background laughter. Another viral video circulated online labelled Osimhen as a “coconut.”

These actions by the club have been widely criticised, with many expressing support for Osimhen and suggesting that he should seek a transfer in the upcoming window.

Significantly, Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, has confirmed their intention to take legal action against Napoli in response to these developments.

  • Ghana’s Black Queens sink Rwanda in 5-0 clash in 2024 WAFCON qualifiers

The Black Queens of Ghana delivered an outstanding performance in the second leg of the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers, defeating the She Amavubis of Rwanda 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 26.

Under the guidance of Coach Nora Hauptile, Ghana’s team had previously dominated the first leg in Kigali on Wednesday, September 20, with an impressive 7-0 victory, rendering the second leg a mere formality.

During the first 45 minutes of the game, the Black Queens maintained control and managed to score four goals. Alice Kusi was the standout player, netting a remarkable hat-trick, while Evelyn Badu added another goal to the tally.

As the second half began, Ghana continued their dominance, with Stella Nyamekeye scoring an additional goal.

This convincing 5-0 win resulted in a commanding 12-0 aggregate score in favour of Ghana, securing their place in the final qualifying round as they prepare to face Namibia.

The winner of this tie will earn a spot in the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to take place in Morocco.

  • It took me 25 years to become chairman – NPP Chairman Stephen Ntim

National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ntim Ayensu , has thrown subtle jabs at the former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremanten, following his resignation from the NPP and declaration of intention to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 general elections.

During a press conference held at the party’s headquarters on September 26, 2023, in Accra, the chairman emphasised that while members of a party or a group have the opportunity to reap the rewards and advantages that come with their membership, it’s crucial to recognise that being a member of a party doesn’t guarantee the fulfilment of all your desires and expectations.

In describing his journey to chairmanship, Mr Ntim said it took him over two decades to land the position, a dream he fulfilled with patience.

He said, “As a member of a party, you have to understand that you will not always have your way or get what you want.

“As I stand here, it took me 21 years to finally win and become the national chairman of the party.

    “I didn’t stop.”

Sounding a caution to all, the chairman mentioned that, as much as your membership in the NPP serves as a cover, it is worthy to note that, once you decide to withdraw from the party, “you are alone”.

“First of all, you would have to understand that being a member of a group or party serves as a cover; you stand to benefit from everything the group has or engages in.”

“But know that once you decide to exit, you are on your own—you are alone. Let us all get this one clear: the moment you decide to step out , you are alone,” he stated.

He therefore urged all members of the party to look out for one another, as well as the party’s interests, in order to benefit the budding leaders and the party’s success.

“I implore all of you to safeguard one another and the party as a whole.

This way, when we eventually step down from our leadership roles, our successors will have the opportunity to become successful leaders, and the NPP will continue to thrive,” the chairman said.

  • NPP is supreme, we are not following Alan – Catherine Afeku

In a surprising turn of events, staunch Alan Kyeremanten supporter and former Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Catherine Afeku, has emphasised her unwavering support for the New Patriotic Party.

The former minister, known for her readiness to defend and advocate for the former minister, has declared that she remains with the New Patriotic Party.

As a huge supporter of Alan, she believes that “the NPP is supreme”.

Hence “if our elder brother (Alan) has decided to run as an independent candidate, it doesn’t mean that those of us in the NPP should go with him”, she said in Twi.

In a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Accra, the NPP responded to the former Minister of Trade and Industry’s resignation from the party and his decision to run as an independent candidate.

This comes after the announcement of the same at a press conference on September 25, 2023, at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

Catherine Afeku emphasised during a media interaction that all supporters of Alan who were present at the party’s office during that time continue to be members of the party and have not departed from it, unlike Alan Kyeremanten.

Additionally, they remain committed to the “mighty elephant government”.

“Just as you heard the National Youth Organiser mention earlier , most of us (Alan supporters) are here and we are here to fully support the NPP, the mighty elephant.”

“But we would like to use this platform to send out a message to all Ghanaians that the NPP is supreme and the elephant government is what we know, love and serve.”

“It was through the NPP that we got to know the leaders; hence, as you can see, our presence here is evidence of the fact that we are still with the party; we haven’t left nor will we ever leave,” she added.

She further went on to call on all who desired to join the NPP to come and “together we can make the party great and break the 8 December 2024 polls.”

This announcement was made by the president of the Algeria Football Federation, Walid Sadi, on September 26, 2023.

With Algeria out of the running, the bidders for the 2025 hosting rights include Morocco, Zambia, and a joint bid from Nigeria and Benin.

Among these, Morocco is reportedly the frontrunner. For the 2027 AFCON, Senegal, Botswana, and Egypt are competing to host the tournament.

In addition to these bids, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania have also jointly submitted bids to host the 2027 edition of the tournament.

This state-of-the-art AstroTurf sports complex serves as a tribute to the late Okyem Aboagye’s unwavering dedication and commitment to his constituency.

The announcement of this decision was made by Francis Asenso-Boakye, the current Member of Parliament for Bantama and Minister for Works and Housing, during the inauguration ceremony.

Daniel Okyem Aboagye, who sadly passed away on September 23, 2023, just a day before the ceremony, had previously served as the Member of Parliament for Bantama under the New Patriotic Party from 2016 to 2021.

His influence extended beyond his legislative role, as he was also a highly regarded member of the Finance Committee of Parliament during his tenure.

During the official commissioning of the facility, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, offered a heartfelt tribute and emphasised the lasting influence that Okyem Aboagye had on the constituency.

This sports complex, funded by the Ghana Gas Company Limited, features floodlights, inner perimeter fencing, and designated seating for players.

  • Nigerians descend on Napoli for social media trolls after Osimhen penalty miss

Napoli is facing criticism from some Nigerians on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), for their response to Victor Osimhen missing a penalty during the club’s draw against Bologna on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

Osimhen’s failure to convert the penalty in the 72nd minute prevented Napoli from taking the lead, and the match ultimately ended in a goalless draw.

The club’s TikTok account posted a video that some Nigerians interpreted as mocking Osimhen for initially appealing for a penalty and subsequently missing it.

A segment of the audience has condemned the club’s actions and called for the removal of the TikTok admin responsible. Others have suggested that Osimhen should consider leaving the club, citing his perceived lack of appreciation.

It’s worth noting that the 24-year-old had an impressive season in Serie A last year, scoring 26 goals and helping Napoli secure their first Serie A title in 33 years. In the current season, he has started well, scoring three goals in five games.

  • Barnes ruled out for months, not weeks – Howe confirms

Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes is facing an extended spell on the sidelines due to a foot injury suffered during the match against Sheffield United.

The 25-year-old was forced to leave the game after just 12 minutes during Newcastle’s 8-0 victory at Bramall Lane.

Manager Eddie Howe is concerned that Barnes, whose transfer cost £38 million, may be unavailable for a significant period.

Barnes has already undergone a scan, and the next step is consulting a specialist to determine whether surgery is necessary for the injury.

Ahead of facing Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, Howe said: “Yes, we’re fearing it’s going to be [a long-term injury].

“It’s difficult. I don’t want to put a time on it until we get confirmation from the specialist, but I think it will be months rather than weeks.”

Newcastle will welcome Burnley in the Premier League this Sunday, followed by a crucial Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain at St James’ Park next Wednesday.

Unfortunately, Barnes is expected to be absent for the upcoming fixtures.

Revealing more on the forward’s issue, Howe added: “It’s an injury to a part of the foot just below the toe. I think it’s quite a substantial injury.

“We’ve had it scanned; we’re waiting now for a specialist’s opinion on what to do next, whether there’s surgery involved or not.

“I don’t think it was a tackle; I think it was just pushing off to run, a very unusual injury.

“I won’t go too technical because I’m not medically qualified to do so, but yes, very unusual.”

Since joining Newcastle over the summer, Barnes has featured in seven matches. He started in two of them and had an impressive debut against Aston Villa, where he notched a goal and an assist.

  • Man Utd, Newcastle eyeing Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra

Manchester United and Newcastle United are closely monitoring the progress of Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, according to Marca.

The 20-year-old has had a stellar start to the season, showcasing his skills with three goals and one assist in six league matches.

As a Spain under-21 international, Guerra recently signed a contract extension in May, committing to Valencia until the summer of 2027.

His contract includes a release clause set at €100 million.

Premier League clubs view Guerra as a valuable investment, not only for the current season but also for the long-term future.

Guerra made his professional debut in April and has since accumulated 16 appearances for Los Che.

  • Tsimikas extends his stay with Liverpool

Tsimikas extends his stay with Liverpool

Liverpool’s defender Kostas Tsimikas has inked a fresh long-term contract.

The Greek defender, who arrived at Liverpool from Olympiakos in 2020, has made a significant impact, contributing 12 assists in 63 appearances for the Merseyside club.

“I feel very glad to be here to extend my contract,” Tsimikas said in a club statement. “I feel like all the sacrifices I did and other things, the work I put in, [that] everything pays off.

“But this keeps me fully motivated for the rest. As I’ve said in many, many interviews, this team has many, many things to achieve all together and I wanted to be from the first minute a part of it.

“I think this team has very big potential to win more trophies and we will go for it. Everybody, I think, is 100% there [and] focused for the next games and everybody is ready to achieve big things in the future.”

  • ‘Nobody wanted’ Joao Felix, Man Utd and City rejected him before Barca move – Paulo Futre

‘Nobody wanted’ Joao Felix, Man Utd and City rejected him before Barca move – Paulo Futre

Former Portugal and Atletico Madrid winger Paulo Futre has disclosed that Joao Felix was offered to Manchester United and Manchester City before he secured a move to Barcelona.

According to Futre, after Joao Felix’s loan stint with Chelsea concluded this summer, the Portuguese star’s services were presented to various clubs.

However, neither Manchester United nor Manchester City expressed interest in signing the forward.

Additionally, Atletico Madrid explored the possibility of a transfer to Aston Villa, but the player himself rejected the move.

Futre, speaking to Cadena Ser, revealed his concerns when Joao Felix expressed his dream of playing for Barcelona, and he questioned Jorge Mendes, Joao’s agent, about it.

Mendes denied responsibility for Joao’s statements but confirmed that he had discussions with Manchester United, a fact that Futre verified through his connections.

    https://youtu.be/6hIYoPdiCpo

Subsequently, Mendes also mentioned talks with Manchester City, which Futre independently confirmed had no interest in acquiring Joao Felix.

“What happened between João and Cholo [Diego Simeone] happens every day in football. It’s something normal. What is not normal is that phenomenal coaches knew that João was a genius (…) he entered their game system, but nobody wanted him.

Neither Arteta, nor Guardiola, nor Klopp, any club… My question is, why? The only team that has wanted him has been Aston Villa. Joao said no when there was an agreement between Atleti and Aston Villa at the beginning of July.”

After facing rejections from the Premier League heavyweights, Joao Felix eventually secured a one-year loan deal with Barcelona on transfer deadline day.

This move to the Catalan giants has turned out to be a boon for the young forward, as he has displayed exceptional form at the beginning of the season.

In his four appearances so far, he has netted three goals and provided two assists.

His next opportunity to shine will come on Tuesday when Barcelona takes on Mallorca in a La Liga match.

  • Ghana Boxing Federation justifies inclusion of Freezy MacBones in team for Olympic qualifiers

Ghana Boxing Federation justifies inclusion of Freezy MacBones in team for Olympic qualifiers

First Vice-President of the Ghana Boxing Federation, Dauda Fuseini, has defended the choice to include UK-based boxer Seth Gyimah, also known as ‘Freezy MacBones,’ in the Black Bombers team for the Africa qualifiers.

Despite having only two previous fight records, Freezy MacBones was included in the team for the Olympic Games qualifiers in Senegal.

However, he was eliminated in the first round, which led to questions about his boxing abilities.

Fuseini clarified in an interview with Graphic Sports that their decision to include him in the team was justifiable because they believed the boxer had sufficient experience.

“I don’t see why they should criticise him because Freezy is trying to be a patriotic citizen.

“He is one boxer who is outside the shores of Ghana, trading his professional career and he thinks he has what it takes to come and represent Ghana.

He wrote to us, and being a Ghanaian, I think it is fair to give him the opportunity,” he said.

He further explained that due to difficulties in finding high-quality boxers in the heavyweight division, they embraced Gyimah’s decision to join the team.

Consequently, Gyimah was assigned the light heavyweight slot, which enabled Joseph Tetteh to participate in the heavyweight division.

”So, before he came, with the current class of boxers that we have, the light heavyweights and the heavyweights had been our problem. So, when he came down here, the light heavyweight was Joseph Tetteh. We thought it wise that, because we don’t have any good heavyweight boxers, we shared the weight between them.

“We gave him the light heavyweight division and gave Joseph Tetteh the heavyweight division,” he stated.

He also underscored that the boxer’s display of patriotism resulted in the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Ministry advising that he should be included in the team competing at the Olympic Games.

  • Bellingham rescues Real Madrid in clash against Champions League debutants Union Berlin

Bellingham rescues Real Madrid in clash against Champions League debutants Union Berlin

Jude Bellingham, aged 20, delivered a dramatic late strike to secure Real Madrid a 1-0 victory over Union Berlin in the opening UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage match, extending Los Blancos’ unbeaten streak to eight consecutive UCL home matches in thrilling fashion.

After participating in Europe’s other two club competitions in back-to-back seasons, Union Berlin made their debut at the highest level of European club football against the continent’s most successful club.

Early on, there was some promise for Die Eisernen, as Kevin Behrens managed to get ahead of Antonio Rudiger to connect with Sheraldo Becker’s cross, but his attempt was thwarted by the center-back.

In response, Real Madrid issued a warning with two headers from Joselu.

Following this burst of activity, the first half settled into a period of relative calm, during which Los Blancos comfortably circulated the ball without truly penetrating Urs Fischer’s well-organized defensive setup.

The orchestration of this momentum shift was led by Leonardo Bonucci, a seasoned veteran of the UEFA Champions League, despite being a newcomer to the club.

The pace and energy on the field increased significantly after the halftime break, as exemplified by Rodrygo.

He had an attempt saved by Frederik Ronnow from a challenging angle and then rattled the crossbar with a powerful volley shortly thereafter.

Meanwhile, Joselu’s ongoing frustrations with finding the net persisted, as Ronnow first parried his quick strike, requiring Bonucci to deal with the rebound, and then managed to tip Joselu’s header onto the post.

Die Eisernen had a chance of their own, but Becker squandered it by overhitting his cross intended for Brenden Aaronson.

Shortly after, Luka Modric attempted an ambitious strike that was tipped over by the goalkeeper at the other end.

Rodrygo then struggled to make a solid connection with Lucas Vazquez’s cross, which had narrowly eluded Bonucci.

Initially, it appeared that it might not be a successful day for Los Blancos. However, Bellingham came to the rescue, scoring his sixth goal for the club.

He capitalised on a chaotic sequence in the box, resulting from Federico Valverde’s shot, to secure the victory.

  • Time to sell Partey – Ex Aston Villa winger Gabriel Agbonlahor

Time to sell Partey – Ex Aston Villa winger Gabriel Agbonlahor

Former Aston Villa winger Gabriel Agbonlahor has put forth a compelling argument advocating for Arsenal to consider selling Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey.

Agbonlahor emphasises that Arsenal should make the tough decision of parting ways with the 30-year-old player due to several factors.

He points to Partey’s injury record, which, in his assessment, has led to him missing nearly half of Arsenal’s games since he joined the team.

Additionally, Agbonlahor highlights Partey’s age as another factor that should prompt Arsenal to consider his departure.

Speaking on TalkSport Radio, Agbonlahor suggests that Arsenal could be making a decision that holds long-term benefits for the club if they opt to sell Thomas Partey.

“I would let Partey go. In some games, he’s poor; in others, he’s very good; and in some games, he’s injured. When you sit down and work it out, is he giving you more than 50% of a season of his best football?

“If I were Arsenal, I’d sell him if the money’s right. I think they were trying during the summer.

“I would look at a long-term replacement because, as much as he’s a good player, the injuries will just get worse the older he gets.”

Thomas Partey, the Ghanaian midfielder, has been sidelined for an extended period due to a knee injury he suffered in early September.

This injury has resulted in Partey’s absence from key matches against teams like Fulham, Manchester United, Everton, PSV, and Tottenham Hotspur.

During his absence, Arsenal has managed to secure three victories and two draws in their last five games. New acquisition Declan Rice has taken up the solitary defensive midfield role effectively.

Unfortunately, Rice sustained an injury during the recent draw against the Spurs, and the severity of the injury is yet to be determined. This further compounds Arsenal’s injury woes, bringing the total to five sidelined players.

Arsenal faces a challenging schedule in October, with matches against Manchester City, Chelsea, and Sevilla on the horizon.

Take a look around the multimillion-dollar hotel allegedly owned by Black Stars’ forward Inaki Williams

Black Stars’ forward Inaki Williams, has reportedly erected a hotel in his hometown of Akyem Achiase, located in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Images of the development surfaced online, with many Ghanaians commending the Spanish-born Ghanaian for investing in Ghana.

The hotel is nearing completion, with just a few final adjustments needed before it is ready for operation. It boasts various amenities, including a conference room, a restaurant, guest rooms, and more.

Interestingly, the hotel is named after the San Mames stadium, which has a seating capacity of 39,000 and is associated with the Athletic Club.

This has fueled speculation that Inaki Williams is the owner of this multimillion-dollar project.

Inaki Williams was born in Basque, Spain, to Ghanaian parents, and he has spent his entire life in Spain.

However, he made the decision to switch nationalities and play for Ghana in June 2022, choosing to honour the country of his ancestry despite his birth in Spain and his possession of dual nationality.

CAF: Morocco, Senegal to host AFCON 2025,2027 respectively, Nigeria-Benin to co-host 2029 – Sources

Confederation of African Football (CAF) is poised to reveal the host nations for the 2025, 2027, and 2029 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments this week.

The long-awaited announcements are the result of a CAF Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday, September 27, 2023, in Cairo.

This decision-making process has been highly anticipated for nearly a year, beginning with CAF’s decision to strip Guinea of its hosting rights for the 2025 finals in October 2022. CAF subsequently disclosed its intention to select hosts for both the 2027 and 2029 finals concurrently.

According to insider sources, Morocco is expected to secure the hosting rights for the 2025 edition, Senegal is likely to host the 2027 tournament, and a joint bid from Nigeria and Benin is poised to secure the 2029 hosting rights.

The decision to revoke Guinea’s hosting privileges for the 2025 tournament was rooted in CAF’s assessment that the nation was significantly lagging in its preparations for the 24-team competition.

As a result, CAF initiated a process to reopen the bidding, with plans to finalise the selection early in 2023. However, the final decision has been repeatedly postponed.
Bids were submitted for the 2025 finals by Algeria, Morocco, Zambia, and a collaborative effort from Benin and Nigeria. Meanwhile, for the 2027 AFCON, bids came from Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, and a joint candidature involving Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

CAF conducted comprehensive evaluations, including sending assessment teams to all bidding countries and appointing an independent assessor to oversee the inspections.

Nonetheless, the ultimate authority to determine the hosts rests with the CAF Executive Committee. The past decade has witnessed a series of challenges and shifts in the history of hosting the Africa Cup of Nations, including South Africa stepping in to replace war-torn Libya in 2013.

Concerns about Cameroon’s readiness for the 2019 finals led to Egypt hosting the tournament, while Cameroon successfully hosted the delayed 2021 edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cote d’Ivoire, initially set to host the 2023 Afcon, postponed the event by six months due to concerns about the rainy season in West Africa.

  • UEFA accused for presentation of false evidence on chaos surrounding 2022 Champions League Final

UEFA accused for presentation of false evidence on chaos surrounding 2022 Champions League Final

UEFA is facing allegations of providing “completely untrue” evidence during its internal investigation into the 2022 Champions League final.

According to The Guardian, the governing body of European football has been accused of presenting evidence that is deemed to be entirely false in the context of the events surrounding the final match between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Leading up to the game, numerous fans experienced extensive delays, confrontations with local troublemakers, and inadequate policing.

The accusations have been leveled by Sharon Burkhalter-Lau, who served as the second-in-command during the game and held the position of UEFA’s operations director at that time.

UEFA established a panel of experts to investigate the occurrences surrounding the final match. While they determined that the governing body bore “primary responsibility” for the mishap, they absolved the safety and security unit, headed by Zeljko Pavlica, a close associate of President Aleksander Ceferin, of any wrongdoing.

Instead, they attributed blame to Burkhalter-Lau’s events division, stating that they had “marginalised” the safety unit.

The Guardian has seen memos sent to UEFA’s general secretary, Theodore Theodoridis and three other senior officials in which Burkhalter-Lau rejected the evidence and claimed it was “completely untrue”.

She instead claimed that the problems mainly stemmed from the Paris police, over whom UEFA has no control.

Burkhalter-Lau has also alleged that Pavlica and his team missed numerous safety briefings and failed to provide important information and context for the planning process.

The report claims that Pavlica’s background, which is in personal security, has previously been questioned by some safety professionals.

Burkhalter-Lau wrote: “The claim that Uefa Events… senior management marginalised the Uefa security unit is based on statements provided by Uefa that were untrue and concerted.”

It remains to be seen if UEFA will issue an official rebuttal to the allegations.

  • Putellas, Paredes, Rodríguez to testify as witnesses in the ongoing Rubiales case on October 2nd

Putellas, Paredes, Rodríguez to testify as witnesses in the ongoing Rubiales case on October 2nd

Spain players Alexia Putellas, Irene Paredes, and Misa Rodríguez have been summoned as witnesses in the case involving former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales, as confirmed by judicial sources to EFE.

Barcelona’s Putellas and Paredes, along with Real Madrid goalkeeper Rodríguez, will provide their testimonies via video link on the upcoming Monday.

Rubiales is facing charges of sexual assault and coercion, accused of forcibly kissing forward Jenni Hermoso without consent after Spain’s 1-0 victory over England in the Women’s World Cup final on August 20.

Prosecutors allege that he subsequently pressured Hermoso and her family to publicly defend his actions when criticism arose regarding his behavior.

Earlier this week, Hermoso’s brother, Rafael, and one of her close friends testified against Rubiales.

During his initial hearing on September 15 in Madrid, Rubiales denied any wrongdoing and was issued a restraining order preventing him from approaching Hermoso within 200 meters.

The fallout from the incident following Spain’s World Cup win has had a significant impact on Spanish football. Despite Rubiales’ resignation and the dismissal of coach Jorge Vilda, most players initially refused to return to national team duty until further structural changes were made within the RFEF.

The Spain National Sports Council (CSD) intervened, and after a meeting last Tuesday, several changes were agreed upon, leading the players to commit to participating in this month’s UEFA Nations League matches, beginning with a 3-2 victory against Sweden on Friday.

As Spain prepared to face Switzerland in Cordoba on Tuesday, their first home game since becoming world champions, midfielder Aitana Bonmatí noted that improvements had started to take place.

“The first few days of this camp were difficult,” the Barça midfielder said in a news conference on Monday. “We could not sleep or rest enough, we had anxiety, but as the days passed things have calmed down.

“We want to return to normality, knowing that there are still a lot of things to improve, which we have spoken about. We are committed to all these improvements and want to leave a good legacy for the generations that come next.

“And not just on a sporting level, but on a societal level as well. We want an egalitarian society in which men and women have the same rights.”

Bonmati’s club and international teammate Mariona Caldentey thanked captains Putellas and Paredes for their role in last week’s meetings with the RFEF and the CSD.

“Those two have taken the brunt of the wear and tear,” she said. “Above all in the days before [the Sweden game] with all the meetings.

“We weren’t as involved as those two, who have been under the most demands. What those two have done is to be praised and we are grateful.

“After [the Switzerland] match, we hope things keep advancing and improving and we will keep fighting for that. We hope that what happened during this international break is never repeated again.

“We want to come back again in October and win again. We want to qualify for the Olympic Games [through the Nations League]. We want to come back with the conditions we deserve.

“The RFEF, CSD and players are committed to these changes to keep making advances. We hope everything is complied with and we can keep enjoying our football.”

Meanwhile, new Spain coach Montse Tomé, who was previously Vilda’s assistant, knocked back reports the players had demanded her dismissal.

“I never felt that was something that had been asked,” she said. “Results will dictate my job in the end, I know that, but I never felt that one of the changes needed was for me to go.

“During the first days of this camp there was a strange atmosphere that had to be fixed. We have spoken, looked each other in the eyes and been honest to take steps forward.

“The players are professionals 100% and since beating Sweden you can see how happy they are. They enjoy playing football. The following days have been calmer and we are looking forward to the game on Tuesday.”

Neymar rubbishes altercation reports with coach as ‘bullsh*t’ and ‘fake news’

Neymar has strongly refuted reports suggesting that he wants Al Hilal manager Jorge Jesus to be dismissed, categorising them as “fake” and “bullsh*t.”

Neymar took to Instagram to dismiss a report from an aggregator that claimed he had requested the club’s board to remove Jesus from his position.

The Brazilian international joined Al Hilal during the summer and has played in three matches for the club, providing two assists, after missing the start of the season due to injury.

Although the 31-year-old has only completed 90 minutes on two occasions since joining Hilal, he is eager to make a significant impact once he establishes a consistent starting role.

Neymar has been proactive in dispelling any suggestions of a rift with Jesus.

Neymar wrote on Instagram: “Bullsht… you have to stop believing in these things and pages like this. .. with millions of followers you can’t keep posting fake news! With all due respect in the world, I ask you to stop this. It’s a lot of disrespect.”

Al-Hilal’s upcoming match is against Al-Jabalain in the King Cup of Champions, scheduled for Monday.

  • Frenkie De Jong sidelined for Clásico following injury – Reports

Frenkie De Jong sidelined for Clásico following injury – Reports

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is facing a period of over a month on the sidelines due to an ankle injury, raising doubts about his availability for the October Clásico against Real Madrid, according to sources reported by ESPN.

De Jong, aged 26, sustained the injury during the first half of Barcelona’s La Liga match against Celta Vigo on Saturday. Gavi replaced him, and Barcelona eventually came from behind to win 3-2.

The Clásico clash against Real Madrid is scheduled for October 28th at the Olympic Stadium, but sources suggest that De Jong is unlikely to recover in time for the match.

In the lead-up to the Clásico, Barcelona has four more league games on the horizon, beginning with fixtures against Mallorca and Sevilla this week, along with two Champions League group stage matches.

De Jong will also be unavailable for the Netherlands’ upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against France and Greece in October.

“We have options to come in for him, so hopefully we won’t suffer too much. We will see how he is after the [October] international break. That’s all we can say for now.”

De Jong’s injury adds to Barcelona’s list of absentees, which includes Pedri. The Spanish midfielder has been sidelined for a month, and although he is nearing a return, there is currently no specific timeframe for when he will be back in action.

“Pedri is feeling good, so we will see when we can get him back,” Xavi added. “We have options without [Pedri and De Jong], one of them is Sergi Roberto and another is Fermín López.”

Barcelona’s victory over Celta propelled them to the summit of La Liga over the weekend, taking advantage of Real Madrid’s loss to Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Under Xavi’s leadership, Barcelona is set to visit Mallorca on Tuesday and will subsequently host Sevilla on Friday. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is scheduled to face Las Palmas on Wednesday and Girona, who currently sit in second place in the table, on Saturday.

Dembele, others face sanctions over anti-gay chants after Madrid win against Marseille

Four Paris Saint-Germain players may face disciplinary action for reportedly engaging in an offensive chant directed at Marseille fans following their Classique victory on Sunday.

Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani, Achraf Hakimi, and Layvin Kurzawa are alleged to have shouted derogatory remarks while celebrating their 4-0 win, saying, “Marseillais, go f*ck your mothers.”

A video shared on social media by Free Ligue 1 shows the four players chanting and jumping, while the rest of the PSG squad abstained from joining in.

In addition, PSG fans could also be subject to sanctions for alleged homophobic chants directed at the visiting team during the match.

According to L’Equipe, this offensive song persisted for nearly 15 minutes and falls within the French Football Association’s definition of discriminatory behaviour.

Olivier Klein, the inter-ministerial delegate for the fight against racism, anti-Semitism, and anti-LGBT hatred (DILCRAH), criticised both PSG and the FA for these incidents.

In a social media post, Klein said he was “very shocked by the unbearable homophobic chants heard at the Parc des Princes during [the game]”.

The government official said he will enter into discussions with the club and the French FA and plans to take legal action if possible.

The minister of sports and the Olympics, Amelie Oudea-Castea, later revealed that she has coordinated France’s discriminatory commission, who are expected to open an investigation into the chants.

She called on the club to identify specific perpetrators within the group and ‘remove them from the stadiums’.

PSG released a statement in response, pledging to “step up its prevention work in the fight against homophobia, and will be meeting all its partners on this vital issue in the coming days”.

  • Fans banned from final minutes of Ajax-Feyenoord game after violent stadium clash

Fans banned from final minutes of Ajax-Feyenoord game after violent stadium clash

Dutch Football Federation has declared that the final 35 minutes of the match between Ajax and Feyenoord will take place without spectators present.

During Sunday’s match, Ajax, a Dutch football powerhouse, found themselves trailing 3-0 after 55 minutes as their rivals from Rotterdam humiliated them on their home turf.

In Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena, a few passionate Ajax fans even ignited flares on the field.

Having been put on hold twice, the referee was forced to call time on the game.

“According to the KNVB, in such situations, “a match should preferably be decided on the pitch… the match must then be resumed as soon as possible.”

Enraged Ajax supporters caused damage to the stadium entrance and engaged in clashes with mounted police, necessitating the use of tear gas to disperse the crowd as the violence spilled beyond the stadium.

These regrettable incidents represent a new low in Ajax’s ongoing troubles, with the four-time European Cup champions facing challenges both on and off the field.

According to certain sources, Ajax is currently rejecting the solution proposed by the Dutch association, citing the ongoing volatility of the situation.

In contrast, Feyenoord is keen to see the match resume sooner rather than later.

The match is expected to recommence on Wednesday, September 27, starting from the point it was suspended (55 minutes into the game).

  • Ancelotti blames Real Madrid’s loss on himself and defensive fragility in loss against Atletico

Ancelotti blames Real Madrid’s loss on himself and defensive fragility in loss against Atletico

Carlo Ancelotti has assumed responsibility for Real Madrid’s loss in the derby against Atletico, although he continues to emphasise that their “defensive vulnerability” was the primary factor behind the defeat.

Real Madrid suffered a surprising defeat to Atletico at the Wanda Metropolitano, with Alvaro Morata scoring twice and Antoine Griezmann adding another goal, despite Toni Kroos’ long-range strike.

This defeat marked Real’s first loss of the season, and while Ancelotti is willing to shoulder the blame, he underscores that their “defensive fragility” was the key issue rather than any tactical shortcomings.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Ancelotti said: “We didn’t start well or defend well. When they went 2-0 up, they played the game they wanted to. Atleti did better than us in this sense.”

“I think the system was not a problem, but rather defensive fragility,

“We were not compact and they took advantage of it.”

“When the team doesn’t do what it has to do, it’s my responsibility. I shoulder that; it’s my fault.”
Real are back in action on Wednesday against Las Palmas in La Liga.

  • “My husband is a good man, Ghana needs him” – Alan Kyeremanten’s wife declares

“My husband is a good man, Ghana needs him” – Alan Kyeremanten’s wife declares

Wife of Alan Kyeremanten, Patricia Christabel Kyerematen, is certain that her husband, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant and the freshest independent candidate in town, is the ‘man Ghana needs’.

She eulogised her husband as  “a good man; he’s an honest man; he’s a man with vision”.

During a media engagement at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel on September 25, 2023, following a press conference at which the former NPP presidential aspirant declared his redrawal from the NPP and decision to run as an independent candidate in the December 25 polls next year, she believes that her husband will make a great leader and will be a great asset to Ghana.

She said, “I’m giving him every support, every support with the strength that  God has given me”.

She is looking forward to his victory in the upcoming election and is committed to helping him every step of the way.

“Because you will agree with me that now that the signal is clear, it is more than possible that this will happen,

    “Alan, he’s what Ghana needs

“There’s nothing impossible if God permits it”.

Former presidential aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Alan Kyeremanten, has announced his resignation from the ruling party.

Mr Kyerematen announced his decision when he addressed the country during a press conference at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on September 25, 2023.

He noted that he no longer recognises the NPP, which has been unfair to himself and his supporters, as its current aims and agenda no longer reflect what the founding fathers had hoped to achieve.

According to the former Trade Minister, he will contest for the office of president as an independent candidate in 2024 with his new party, Movement for Change.

Mr Kyerematen was among the contenders for the NPP flagbearer position, but on September 5, he declared his withdrawal from the race, citing reasons such as electoral irregularities, unfair treatment, and bias during the superdelegates’ conference held on August 26, 2023.

Mr Kyerematen first resigned from the party in 2008 following attacks on his supporters after the NPP held its 2007 presidential primaries.

Mr Kyerematen has been an active member of the NPP since its establishment in 1992.

  • There’s too much enmity in the industry – Bullgod on Shatta-Wale and Stonebwoy

There’s too much enmity in the industry – Bullgod on Shatta-Wale and Stonebwoy

Entertainment critic and artiste manager, Bullgod, has responded to Shatta Wale’s recent criticisms of Stonebwoy regarding a dispute over booking the Accra Sports Stadium for their concerts.

Expressing his frustration with the increasing feuds among artists in the entertainment industry, Bullgod described Shatta’s attacks on Stonebwoy as unnecessary and unproductive.

Earlier on Tuesday, September 20, Shatta Wale expressed his displeasure at what he perceived as an unfair allocation of the stadium to Stonebwoy for his BHIM concert, despite Shatta being the first to announce his Freedom Wave Concert, which traditionally takes place at the same venue.

In a Facebook live video filled with anger, Shatta accused Stonebwoy of sabotage and intentionally scheduling his BHIM concert at the same venue and around the same time as his Freedom Wave Festival.

Bullgod believes that this confrontational approach is inappropriate for resolving such issues in the modern era.

“I think the bad blood is too much. The bad blood among us as entertainment people is not a good thing. I think we are in an era where things have changed. The unnecessary confrontations do not work any longer. We all heard the things Shatta said. Some of these things are needless and pointless. He has to know how to communicate these things. It could bring problems for him. It’s tiring sometimes that in 2023 we still engage in these things.

“I have booked the stadium a lot of times for work. Maybe things are different now because, in the past, when you book a day, you will be given a half day to do set up.

“For instance, when you book for 24 hours, you are given 12 hours to do set up. You come in 12 hours before your fixed time. If that regulation stands, then there is no need for all the things we heard,” he stated during a discussion on United Showbiz.

He, however, commended Stonebwoy for not responding to Shatta’s attacks and handling the entire development in a mature manner.
