  • Falsehood! Martha Ankomah refutes GHS 300k settlement with LilWin in defamation case

Falsehood! Martha Ankomah refutes GHS 300k settlement with LilWin in defamation case

Ghanaian actress Martha Ankomah has refuted reports claiming that a court has ordered actor LilWin to pay a GH¢300,000 fine.

Speaking in an interview on Nhyira FM, which was shared on Instagram on March 2, 2025, Martha Ankomah—who is still pursuing her lawsuit against LilWin—clarified that no such ruling has been issued.

She stressed that she is not seeking financial compensation from the actor. Instead, her main request is for the court to secure a public apology and cover her legal fees.

“It is not true; it is sad, and I don’t know who has been writing those stories and giving such captions. When we went to court, the judge ordered them to write an apology and present it at our next hearing on April 1, 2025. If the court is convinced with the apology, he would therefore come out and publicly apologise.

“You may recall that I once was granted an interview on Peace FM, where I said that I didn’t need money from LilWin. All I want is a public apology. Maybe what we would take from him is our legal fees. It is not good for someone to spread false news about you. I want him to do the right thing so people would know that the law works in this country,” she said.

Martha Akomah further clarified that LilWin’s initial apology was not what she was expecting from the actor.

She added that the actor’s apology does not show any sign of remorse.

“All those who listened and watched his apology said that it did not go well because he didn’t even trust any of his statements. So, we want the right thing to be done, and that is all.

    Background

On February 14, 2024, Martha Ankomah launched a lawsuit against LilWin following defamatory remarks he made about her in a viral video. The video features LilWin belittling Ankomah’s role in the film industry, which has reportedly damaged her reputation and the brand she represents.

Ankomah clarified that LilWin’s accusations that she disdains Kumawood actors and refuses to collaborate with them due to perceived low-quality storylines are false.

In her legal pursuit, Ankomah seeks various remedies, such as:

    Coverage of legal expenses

Compensation for the damage to her reputation

Additional damages for the malicious nature of the statements

An apology and retraction of the defamatory remarks

An injunction to prevent LilWin from making further defamatory comments

My mum departed peacefully and in love – Rev. Obofour breaks silence

Founder of Anointed Palace Chapel (APC), Rev. Obofour has finally spoken about the heartbreaking loss of his beloved mother, Afia Pokuaa, affectionately known as Mama Ade Special.

In an emotional tribute, Rev. Obofour described his mother’s passing as both beautiful and divinely orchestrated, emphasizing that she had a sense her time was near.

Sharing intimate details of her final days, he revealed that just two weeks before her passing, she appeared to be in good health. He recounted how she actively led his ministry, made generous donations to congregants, and even posed for a birthday photoshoot—where she subtly hinted at her impending departure.

“She went for her birthday photoshoot and told us to watch her very well since very soon, it will be a privilege we won’t get anymore. She asked for some of her photos to be enlarged since they will be used for her farewell printings.”

Following the photoshoot, she attended church on Sunday, after which she informed him that she would be going for a medical checkup the next day.

He narrated how upon arrival at the hospital, she was unexpectedly admitted and advised to rest. However, she insisted she was hale and hearty but still complied.

“She was to be discharged the next day. I slept there with her, and we cracked jokes and laughed. Before I left, she told me plainly that I wouldn’t meet her the same way I left,” Rev. Obofour recalled.

Mama Ade Special died shortly after, surrounded by her children. She had looked her best, clad in a white dress with a full made-up face.

In his view, his mother is very happy wherever she is, as she lived a fulfilled life.

Dr. Akosua Abdallah denies involvement in petition against Kafui Danku, James Gardiner

Veteran Ghanaian actress and film expert Dr. Akosua Abdallah has disassociated herself from a petition seeking to revoke two recent appointments to the National Film Authority (NFA).

In a statement to MyJoyOnline.com, Dr. Abdallah clarified that she had no involvement in the petition.

The controversy arose when the Association of Ghanaian Creatives, a group of industry stakeholders, launched a Change.org petition urging President John Dramani Mahama to rescind the appointments of Kafui Danku as Executive Secretary of the NFA and James Gardiner as Deputy Executive Secretary.

The petitioners argued that both appointees lacked the necessary expertise for their roles and proposed alternative candidates, including George Bosompim (National Film Institute, GAFTA), Dr. Jim Fara Awindor (film and television strategist), Akofa Edjeani Asiedu (veteran filmmaker and policymaker), Professor Linus Abraham (media and communication expert), Dr. Akosua Abdallah (film education and policy expert), and Ms. Nicole Amarteifio (pioneering filmmaker and industry advocate).

However, three of the suggested candidates—Dr. Jim Fara Awindor, George Bosompim, and Professor Linus Abraham—publicly distanced themselves from the petition, stating they had not been consulted. Dr. Akosua Abdallah has now become the fourth person to reject any association with the initiative.

    Read her statement below:

DISCLAIMER: MY NON-INVOLVEMENT IN PETITION REGARDING NFA APPOINTMENTS

My attention has been drawn to a petition circulating in the public domain regarding the recent appointments of Kafui Danku and James Gardiner to the National Film Authority (NFA), which regrettably bears my name. I wish to categorically state that I have no knowledge of this petition, nor was I consulted or involved in its initiation, drafting, or circulation.

As a cultural and theatre expert, and in my capacity as the Head of the Ghana Chapter of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), my focus remains on promoting collaboration, capacity-building, and artistic excellence within the creative sector. I maintain a neutral and professional stance on matters of governance and appointments within state institutions.

At this stage of my career, I am not engaged in public or civil service, making any association of my name with this petition entirely unwarranted. Any inclusion of my name is without my consent and does not reflect my views.

Sista Afia says she would never get into a relationship with her manager

Ghanaian musician Sista Afia has shared insights into her approach to romance, music, and maintaining a balance between her personal and professional life.

Speaking in an interview with DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz, she highlighted the importance of keeping work and pleasure separate.

“Oh never ever. It will never happen to have an affair with my manager. It has never happened at my side. It will never happen. Work is work. I don’t know how to mix work with pleasure. It is very difficult for me. I’ve never tried it though but I feel like it won’t work,” she said.

She however noted that “if a man comes into my life and wants to help me, why not? I’ve not gotten there because a lot of people think I already have it. That’s the mentality. They don’t even know I need it more than they do.”

Afia further indicated that she doesn’t involve people in her personal things.

“You can be close to somebody that I’ve dated for years. You might not even know I’ve dated the person, unless I tell you,” she said.

According to her, she keeps things that are supposed to be private to herself.

Sista Afia also confirmed that she’s signed under her own record label and has a manager.

  • Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck now legally divorced both single now

Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck now legally divorced both single now

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck officially finalized their divorce on Friday, becoming legally single once again.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge approved their divorce settlement on January 6, with the ruling taking effect on February 21, following California’s mandatory six-month waiting period after Lopez filed to dissolve their two-year marriage.

According to court documents, the couple reached a settlement through mediation in September, avoiding the prolonged legal battles that often accompany high-profile divorces.

Lopez has officially dropped “Affleck” from her legal name. While most financial details remain private, neither party will pay spousal support, and with no children together, custody was not a factor in the proceedings.

The former couple tied the knot in July 2022, but Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, citing a separation that had occurred more than a year earlier.

It was their second stint as a couple. In the early 2000s, they met, fell in love, got engaged and starred together in the infamous “Gigli” and “Jersey Girl” in 2004. They split up that same year, blaming in part the pressure of the public eye.

But to the joy of many fans and perhaps the doubt of others, they got back together two decades later and got married.

Affleck divorced Jennifer Garner, with whom he has three children, in 2018. Lopez has been married four times and has twins with singer Marc Anthony.

  • Rodri set for possible return this season – Pep

Rodri set for possible return this season – Pep

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has suggested that Ballon d’Or winner Rodri could make a return to action before the season concludes.

On Friday, the club shared footage of the Spain midfielder in training, sparking excitement among fans just hours before City secured their spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a victory over Plymouth Argyle.

Despite the buzz, club officials remain cautious, refusing to set a definite timeline for Rodri’s comeback. However, given his absence has been deeply felt—City currently sit fourth in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by 20 points after suffering eight league defeats—it’s no surprise that his potential return has stirred anticipation.

For the first time since Rodri sustained a serious knee injury against Arsenal in September, Guardiola has expressed optimism about the 28-year-old’s chances of featuring again this season. With the FIFA Club World Cup on the horizon in June, his return would be a major boost for City.

“The fans must know they are not the only ones who are excited,” said the City boss. “It’s been five months or six months.

“But [it’s] one step at a time. We don’t have to make stupid decisions [for him] to come weeks earlier. He’s not close to coming back, but he’s touching the ball and is in the locker room.

    “He feels confident and happy.

“I could not expect before [him to return] before the end of the season, not even for the [Club] World Cup, but maybe it’s going to happen.”

Guardiola also confirmed defender Nathan Ake will have more tests on a problem he fears might keep the Netherlands international out for some time.

“He struggles sometimes with the feet,” he added. “It’s been like this the whole season with the central defenders.”

Ake, 30, has been restricted to 18 appearances so far this season due to a succession of short-term injuries and was taken off at half-time against Plymouth.

Fellow defenders John Stones and Manuel Akanji also missed the FA Cup win through injury.

Video: See how Azumah Nelson’s son Delvin suffered a heavy defeat after in a boxing bout

Son of boxing legend Azumah Nelson, Delvin Nelson, suffered a crushing defeat in the Bel 7 Star Boxing League on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Competing in the lightweight division, Delvin lost his second professional bout by a Round 5 technical knockout to Bitabiman.

Throughout the fight, he struggled to withstand his opponent’s relentless pressure, finding little opportunity to counter. Bitabiman dominated with a series of powerful jabs, ultimately leaving Delvin defenseless. The bout ended with Delvin sustaining a cut on his eyebrow.

Speaking after the fight, Delvin admitted the loss was a tough one but acknowledged his opponent’s superior skill.

“It’s an awful defeat. I think he headbutted me, so my vision is a little blurry. He’s a very strong opponent with a good right hand.”

Delvin Nelson, 28, now has a professional record of one win and one loss after two fights.

  • Ghana is not really ready to tackle corruption – Special Prosecutor doubts

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has cast doubt on Ghana’s genuine commitment to fighting corruption, highlighting public resistance and conflicting attitudes toward anti-corruption efforts.

Delivering a lecture on the theme “A Few Good Men: Suppressing and Repressing Corruption and State Capture in Aid of Development” during Constitution Day, Agyebeng underscored a troubling paradox. While many acknowledge the need to combat corruption, some groups actively work against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), undermining its mandate and efforts.

“There have been attempts to discredit the principles of the office and its officers, unjustly attended by formidable resistance and pushback,” he noted, adding that these attacks often come from individuals facing investigations or prosecution.

Agyebeng described the situation as a “curious cycle,” where the public protests both when the OSP takes action and when it is perceived as inactive.

“There is an outcry when the OSP acts and an outcry when it is seen as not acting. It is as if we do not know what we want. The situation in Ghana now appears to be, ‘We must fight corruption, but we must not fight corruption.’ That is our state now,” he said.

Hajj 2025: Mahama announces plans to transport 5,000 pilgrims to Mecca

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to arrange the airlifting of 5,000 Ghanaian pilgrims to Mecca for the 2025 Hajj.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony for the Hajj Village on Friday, February 28, 2025, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating a smooth and well-coordinated pilgrimage.

“After we pay off the millions of dollars of debts that have accumulated in Saudi Arabia from earlier Hajj operations, this year, we intend to airlift exactly 5,000 pilgrims to the Holy Land. And the taskforce has announced March 13, 2025, as the deadline for payment,” he stated.

President Mahama also revealed that the government has secured a pre-financing agreement with a local bank to guarantee full coverage of all deposits for accommodation, transportation, and other essential services for the pilgrims.

“We have facilitated a pre-finance arrangement with one of the local banks. And so, I’m pleased as I speak to you to announce that all deposits for accommodation, transport, and other facilities have been paid,” he said.

He also directed the Hajj Task Force to strictly adhere to the set limit of 5,000 pilgrims.

“I’ve instructed the Hajj Task Force that they should cut off at exactly 5,000 and not go beyond 5,000. We don’t want the previous situation where people rush with late payments and we are unable to airlift them and become complaining,” he stated.

  • Skype to officially shut down operations in May 2025 after over two decades run

Skype to officially shut down operations in May 2025 after over two decades run

Microsoft is discontinuing Skype, the once-dominant internet-based phone and video service that revolutionized digital communication in the mid-2000s.

Skype will “no longer be available” to use starting in May, the company confirmed on X, telling users that their log-in information can be used on Microsoft Teams’ free tier in the “coming days.”

Fourteen years after acquiring Skype for $8.5 billion in cash, Microsoft has officially shut down the once-popular communication platform. At the time of its purchase in 2011, Skype was Microsoft’s largest-ever acquisition, and the company integrated it into key products such as Office and the now-defunct Windows Phone.

Despite experiencing a brief resurgence during the COVID-19 pandemic, Skype’s influence has steadily declined over the years. Competing services like Zoom, Google Meet, and Cisco WebEx surged in popularity, while Apple’s FaceTime and Meta’s WhatsApp also contributed to its waning relevance.

Additionally, Microsoft has focused its efforts on developing Teams, which offers many of the same features as Skype but is more tailored to modern business communication.

Skype originally launched in Estonia in 2003 and quickly gained traction as a revolutionary tool for free international calls, a significant advantage when traditional phone calls were costly. Its rapid success led to eBay purchasing the platform for $2.6 billion in 2005, but the acquisition proved unsuccessful. In 2009, eBay offloaded a 65% stake in Skype to an investor group for $1.9 billion before Microsoft took full ownership two years later.

Microsoft has yet to respond to CNN’s request for comment on Skype’s shutdown.

  • ‘Such myopic opinion’ – Former NFF President blasts Carragher over anti-AFCON comments

‘Such myopic opinion’ – Former NFF President blasts Carragher over anti-AFCON comments

Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick has fired back at ex-England and Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher over his contentious remarks about the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Carragher, now a Sky Sports pundit, sparked controversy on Sunday while analyzing Liverpool star Mohamed Salah’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or. The 47-year-old downplayed AFCON’s significance, suggesting it is not among football’s major tournaments—a statement that has drawn widespread backlash.

Pinnick, who serves on the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Executive Council, strongly rejected Carragher’s comments. Speaking on SuperSport’s Soccer Africa, he defended AFCON’s prestige, reaffirming its status as one of the world’s top football competitions. He also assured fans that the 2025 edition in Morocco would surpass the recently concluded tournament in Ivory Coast in both scale and quality.

“I think it is a very myopic opinion, and you can see the wave of attack because the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is growing beyond the imagination of so many people, and he might be talking subjectively,” Pinnick stated.

The former NFF boss also referenced George Weah’s 1995 Ballon d’Or win, pointing out that Liberia had not even qualified for AFCON at the time. Still, Weah’s outstanding performances for AC Milan earned him the prestigious award.

Pinnick believes Salah’s performances this season make him a strong contender for the prestigious award.

“When George Weah in 1995 won the Ballon d’Or, Liberia was nowhere close to AFCON. He won the award due to his performance when he was with AC Milan, and you look at what Mohamed Salah has done this season. That is super iconic,” Pinnick said.

“The players are playing so well, and it is even beyond the coach. It is not about tactics, and that should be the spirit to resonate in Africa, and that should be the spirit among African players that we can do it. In the last AFCON, give it to CAF because solidarity about 60 million dollars went to Cote d’Ivoire, and that was the first time, and just wait and see what will happen in Morocco this year.”

Pinnick further stressed AFCON’s importance to African footballers, highlighting how much winning the competition means to them.

“African players know how important it is to win the Africa Cup of Nations, and the medal and trophy alone are something every player will cherish,” he added.

Salah has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 25 goals and registering 16 assists in the Premier League. With a total of 182 league goals, he is just two strikes away from surpassing Sergio Aguero to enter the top five all-time scorers in the competition.

The Egyptian star has also impressed in the Champions League, netting seven times to help Liverpool secure the top spot in their group. His 51 combined goals and assists across Europe’s top five leagues currently lead all players, further bolstering his case for the Ballon d’Or.

A victory in the prestigious award would be a historic milestone for African football, cementing Salah’s status as one of the greatest players the continent has ever produced.

  • Ruben Amorim reacts to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s criticism of some players

Ruben Amorim reacts to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s criticism of some players

Ruben Amorim has made it clear to his Manchester United squad that they have no reason to object to criticism from co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe recently stated in an interview that some United players are “overpaid and not good enough.”

Speaking ahead of their crucial Europa League clash against Real Sociedad on Thursday, Amorim was asked about the remarks. Instead of defending his team, he acknowledged the criticism and emphasized that it was up to both the players and coaching staff to prove Ratcliffe wrong.

“I think if we are being honest in this moment everybody, me, all the players are underperforming this season so we can always change that,” Amorim told a news conference on Wednesday.

“So I include myself in that part of underperforming. If you are a top player and play in this football and even me — a lot of people say I am not good enough for the club — and my feeling is you can change that with results. In training, I feel they want that really bad.”

Ratcliffe also highlighted several players whose transfer fees will still be paid this summer.

His list included signings considered disappointing at Old Trafford, such as Jadon Sancho, Antony, Rasmus Højlund, André Onana, and Casemiro, a five-time Champions League winner.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s hopes in the Europa League rest on their struggling attack rediscovering its scoring touch.

“You are talking about players like Casemiro, for example, that won everything and we know that these kinds of players can play so much better,” Amorim said. “So that is the focus. He was honest in that.

“The focus is to change his mind and to change all people’s minds.”

  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘furious’ over Man Utd’s sale of Scott McTominay but proud of Maguire, Fernades

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘furious’ over Man Utd’s sale of Scott McTominay but proud of Maguire, Fernades

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he was disappointed when the club sold Scott McTominay but takes pride in seeing Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire remain at Old Trafford.

McTominay, a graduate of United’s academy, departed for Napoli in a £25 million transfer during the summer window—a move primarily driven by the club’s efforts to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Since joining the Serie A side, the 28-year-old has flourished, delivering standout performances and becoming an integral part of Napoli’s squad. His contributions, including seven goals and four assists across all competitions, have cemented his role in the team’s push for silverware.

Reflecting on McTominay’s success in Italy, Solskjaer expressed frustration over United’s decision to let him go but remains encouraged by the continued presence of Fernandes and Maguire at the club.

In an interview with The Athletic, Solskjaer said, “Scotty is doing well at Napoli. I’m upset that we let him go because he was important last season when he kept popping up with goals. His heart and his knowledge of the culture were important.”

However, the Norwegian is happy to see Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire flourish at Old Trafford.

“It’s still good to see Bruno Fernandes and Harry (Maguire) doing well,” he said.
McTominay made his first-team debut under Jose Mourinho, but it was Solskjaer who truly gave him an extended run in the squad. During Solskjaer’s tenure, the midfielder featured in 115 matches, scoring 14 goals and becoming a dependable presence in United’s midfield.

“Scott has got the Man Utd DNA, and it’s sad to see him go,” Solskjaer had earlier told The Athletic in a separate interview. “It’s similar to when Jonny Evans and Danny Welbeck left. I’m sure he’ll go on to do great things and show both his football and personal qualities. He’s a top pro with a great attitude. He scores important goals for club and country while always wanting to learn and improve.”

  • Liverpool’s financial loss climbs to £57m for the 2023-24 season

Liverpool’s financial loss climbs to £57m for the 2023-24 season

Liverpool recorded a pre-tax loss of £57 million for the financial year ending May 31, 2024—an increase of £48 million from the previous year.

Despite this, the club’s overall revenue saw a £20 million boost, reaching £614 million, while commercial income hit a record £308 million, up by £36 million. This milestone marks the first time Liverpool’s commercial revenue has surpassed £300 million, driven largely by growth in sponsorship deals and retail sales.

The financial period covered Jürgen Klopp’s final season as manager, during which Liverpool won the Carabao Cup, finished third in the Premier League, and reached the quarter-finals of both the FA Cup and Europa League.

During the 2023-24 season, Liverpool invested around £165 million in new signings, bringing in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch to strengthen the squad.

However, the club’s absence from the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2016-17 led to a £38 million drop in media revenue, which fell to £204 million. This decline was partially offset by increased Premier League broadcasting revenue, attributed to Liverpool’s improved league performance compared to the previous season, where they finished fifth and failed to secure a major trophy.

Liverpool ‘strongest brand’ in Premier League

Liverpool’s matchday revenue rose by £22 million to £102 million in the 2023-24 season, driven by the opening of the new Anfield Road Stand and an increased number of competitive fixtures at home.

Despite the revenue boost, administrative costs surged by £38 million to £600 million, primarily due to rising salaries and overhead expenses. The club revealed that matchday costs have nearly doubled over the past eight years, while staff expenses have climbed 86% since 2018, reaching £386 million.

“Operating a financially sustainable club continues to be our priority and, with the continued increase in costs, it’s essential to grow income streams year on year to maintain financial stability,” said Jenny Beacham, the club’s chief finance officer.

Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool currently leads the Premier League by 13 points over Arsenal. The club also continues to strengthen its global presence, generating 1.5 billion social media engagements and gaining a record 37 million new followers across its platforms.

According to Brand Finance’s 2024 report, Liverpool now holds the title of the strongest brand among all Premier League clubs.

“The global appeal of this football club continues to be phenomenal and is the underlying strength and opportunity we have for continued growth,” Beacham added.

Barcelona to conclude LaLiga, UCL campaign at Olympic Stadium over Camp Nou renovation delays

Barcelona has officially announced that the team will complete the season at the Olympic Stadium, as ongoing renovations at Spotify Camp Nou have been delayed.

The club had initially planned to return to their home ground sooner, but construction work on the stadium’s second tier has taken longer than expected. Due to these setbacks, all remaining LaLiga and Champions League home matches will be played at the Olympic Stadium.

Barcelona informed its members of this decision through an email on Thursday. Club president Joan Laporta had previously stated that the team aimed to return to Camp Nou by March, just in time for the Champions League knockout stages.

However, UEFA rules prevent teams from changing venues once a knockout round has begun, meaning Barcelona must now finish their European campaign at the Olympic Stadium.

Following Thursday’s announcement, all of Barcelona’s remaining first-team home matches will be played at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc.

Barcelona moved out of Camp Nou in 2023 to allow for major renovations, which will expand the stadium’s capacity to about 105,000—the largest in Europe.

In January, the club extended its lease at the Olympic Stadium until the end of May, ensuring that their highly anticipated match against Real Madrid, scheduled for that month, can take place there.

The team faces a demanding schedule, with four matches in just nine days when club football resumes next week. They will play Osasuna at home on Thursday, followed by a home match against Girona on Sunday. On Wednesday, they travel to Atlético Madrid for the second leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal before returning home to face Real Betis on Saturday.

Barcelona will then host Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, travel to Leganés for a LaLiga fixture, and head to Germany for the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.

  • Transparency of Black Stars’ budget Sports Ministry’s responsibility not GFA – Oduro Sarfo to Maahama

Transparency of Black Stars’ budget Sports Ministry’s responsibility not GFA – Oduro Sarfo to Maahama

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has called on President John Dramani Mahama to hold the Sports Ministry, rather than the GFA, responsible for transparency in the Black Stars’ budget.

His remarks come in response to President Mahama’s statement during the State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27, where he emphasized the need for full disclosure on government spending related to national teams.

The President also directed Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams to ensure budget transparency and oversee the GFA’s financial accountability ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

However, Oduro Sarfo argues that the President may have been misinformed, insisting that financial matters concerning the Black Stars are under the purview of the Sports Ministry, not the GFA.

“The President has been misled in making that statement

The GFA does not spend on the Black Stars. The FA submits the budget for approval, and once approved, the Ministry handles all financial matters” he told Takoradi-based Connect FM.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars are set to face Chad in Accra on March 21 before taking on Madagascar in Morocco on March 24 as part of the Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

VAR in Ghana football has delayed; GFA explains why

General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, has explained the delay in the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in the Ghana Premier League.

VAR was initially expected to be implemented this season, but it now appears unlikely to be rolled out as planned.

In an interview with 3Sports, Addo reassured fans that the GFA remains committed to incorporating VAR to enhance officiating standards.

“We are on the journey to acquiring VAR, but some countries have more financial resources than others, allowing them to progress faster. VAR is not something you can simply purchase; there are several steps involved, including training for referees and VAR technicians. We have been working with FIFA on this process,” Addo explained.

He further highlighted that while FIFA initially engaged member associations on VAR adoption, the high costs became a major barrier. To tackle this, FIFA is now collaborating with another company to develop a more affordable alternative called “VAR Light.” However, this version of the technology will still take time before it is ready for use.

“Since the full VAR system is costly, we are opting for the second option, but our referees have already undergone some level of VAR training,” Addo added.

French referees threaten boycott over safety concerns – Union

The French referees’ union has warned that its members may refuse to officiate matches if their safety or that of their families is threatened. This comes after referee Jérémy Stinat became the target of intense backlash following comments made by Marseille president Pablo Longoria.

According to local reports, Longoria had opposed Stinat’s appointment for Marseille’s match against Auxerre last Saturday, which ended in a 3-0 defeat.

He attributed the loss to “true corruption” and was particularly outraged by the red card issued to defender Derek Cornelius.

In response to his remarks, the French football league (LFP) imposed a 15-match ban on Longoria on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Stinat has reportedly filed a legal complaint after discovering that the tyres on two cars belonging to his family had been slashed before the match.

Concerned about the growing hostility towards referees, a delegation from the referees’ union (SAFE) met with French Sports Minister Marie Barsacq on Thursday to discuss measures to ensure match officials’ safety.

“The nature of the remarks … called into question the integrity of the referee and, more generally, that of the refereeing body,” SAFE said.

“In the event of a new breach of their private sphere, putting them or their families at risk, [the referees] would exercise their right to withdraw.”

The union added in a statement that it had instructed its legal advisers to join Stinat in filing a civil action with an investigating judge of the Paris court of first instance.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli set for return in April – Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is hopeful that wingers Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli will recover from injury in time for their home clash against Fulham on April 1.

Both players are sidelined with hamstring issues, while forwards Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Their absence has significantly impacted Arsenal’s attacking options, with the team failing to find the net in a 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday and a goalless draw against third-placed Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Arteta acknowledged that even if Saka and Martinelli return after the international break, their fitness will need to be carefully managed.

“I think so, but again let’s see how they evolve in the next few weeks to make the right steps,” he told reporters.
“After that, they’ve been out for a long, long time, so we’re going to have to integrate them as well gradually. They are evolving well but they’re still a bit far.

“We have a meeting tomorrow to discuss where they are, especially Gabi, who probably has a chance before Bukayo to come in, but how soon that is, we’ll have to see how it evolves in the next week or 10 days.”

Arsenal remain second after the draw at Forest but have fallen 13 points behind leaders Liverpool.

Arteta will now turn his attention to PSV Eindhoven for the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie on Tuesday and must quickly find a solution for their goal-scoring woes.

“We have another day or two now to think before the PSV game, all the options that we have especially against a team that is in a low block,” Arteta said.

  • LaLiga’s Javier Tebas reports Man City to EU over alleged financial irregularities in 2023

LaLiga’s Javier Tebas reports Man City to EU over alleged financial irregularities in 2023

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has disclosed that he lodged a formal complaint against Manchester City with the European Commission, accusing the club of financial irregularities.

Speaking at the Financial Times’ “Business of Football” summit on Thursday, Tebas stated that the complaint was filed in 2023 and is currently under investigation.

Manchester City has not issued an official response, but a source informed ESPN that the club strongly refutes the allegations.

A spokesperson for the EU Commission confirmed to ESPN that LaLiga’s complaint had been submitted, adding that they “cannot comment on ongoing assessments.”

“City have a lot of companies in their group which lie outside the City Football Group structure, extra companies where they put their expenses,” he said.

“These other companies lose the money but not the club itself. We have reported Manchester City to the EU. We have the facts and figures.

“We asked for City to be checked. It’s very important that all clubs are subject to the same transparency rules and governance on both the sporting and financial side.

The City case is one where we believe they have put the losses on the companies that are not officially part of City Football Group.”

“Do you remember the case in the United States? The Enron case. What they did, they got their losses and they put them into different companies. Well, it’s a similar case.”

“They [City] have a scouting company, a marketing company. That’s where they have very high expenses. They invoice City for less money. City have costs that are less than if they didn’t have this circle of companies around,” he added.

City are already ensnared in another legal battle as they refute charges of breaking over 100 Premier League financial rules.

  • Jose Mourinho hit with four-match suspension over Galatasaray remarks

Jose Mourinho hit with four-match suspension over Galatasaray remarks

Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has been slapped with a four-match suspension and a substantial fine by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) following his post-match criticism of Turkish referees.

The Portuguese coach, who made the remarks after Fenerbahce’s goalless draw against Galatasaray on Monday, was fined 1,617,000 Turkish lira ($44,000) for what the TFF described as “derogatory and offensive statements” against match officials.

According to the TFF, Mourinho’s comments not only violated the ethical standards of the sport but also had the potential to incite violence and disrupt order in Turkish football. His remarks suggested that Turkish refereeing was plagued by chaos, prompting the federation to take disciplinary action.

Interestingly, the match in question was officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic, following a request from both clubs to have a foreign referee in charge. After the game, Mourinho pointedly praised Vincic, subtly emphasizing the fact that he was not from Turkey.

The suspension means the 62-year-old tactician will miss Fenerbahce’s next four league matches, a significant blow as the club continues its pursuit of domestic success.

“The performance of the referee was a top performance,” Mourinho said.

“Anyone, not just from this country but also abroad, watched a big football match. I think the man responsible for that was the referee.
Mourinho was also asked about an incident early in the game involving his 19-year-old defender Yusuf Akcicek, to which he said: “Again, I have to thank the referee because with a Turkish referee after the big dive and the first minute and their bench jumping like monkeys on top of the kids.

“A Turkish referee would have [given Akcicek] a yellow card after one minute, and after five minutes I would have to change him.”

Galatasaray have said they will “initiate criminal proceedings” and report Mourinho to FIFA and UEFA over what they called “racist statements.”

Fenerbahce has defended head coach Jose Mourinho, asserting that his remarks were misinterpreted and intentionally misrepresented. In a statement released on Tuesday, the club condemned what it described as a deliberate distortion of Mourinho’s comments and announced plans to take legal action against what it called “baseless accusations.”

The Portuguese tactician, who previously managed Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur, has faced fines and suspensions in the past for his criticism of Turkish referees.

However, Fenerbahce maintains that the latest sanctions against him are unjust and has vowed to challenge the decision.

Ghana’s World Cup Qualifier vs. Madagascar Relocated to Morocco

Ghana’s sixth fixture in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar has been rescheduled to take place in Morocco on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Originally set to be played in Antananarivo, the match was relocated after Madagascar’s national stadium failed to meet FIFA’s approval standards. The game will now be hosted at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima in Morocco.

This encounter follows Ghana’s crucial clash against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 21, marking the start of their international break.

The Black Stars are eager to turn the page on a disappointing 2024 campaign, which saw them win just two games and miss out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

With nine points from four matches, Ghana currently shares the top spot in Group I with Comoros. Their victories so far have come against Madagascar, Mali, and the Central African Republic, with their only setback being a loss to Comoros.

Having previously qualified for four World Cup tournaments—Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, and Qatar 2022—Ghana is determined to secure a ticket to the expanded 2026 edition, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Video: I’m not stingy, people just don’t like my response when they ask for money” – Sarkodie

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has addressed widespread claims that he is “stingy,” insisting that his reluctance to give money isn’t out of selfishness.

Speaking on the +444 Podcast, which aired on X on February 26, 2025, Sarkodie revealed that some relatives and acquaintances take offense when he declines their financial requests, even if he believes they are unwarranted.

He clarified that his decision to offer financial assistance is based on necessity rather than obligation, emphasizing that he only provides support when he deems it genuinely justified.

I always say, ‘I will see what I can do’ when people ask me for money. I am very straightforward about that. My family keeps telling me that my ‘no’ is so firm that they feel offended. You can ask me for a thousand dollars, and I would say no, but you can ask for fifteen, and I will send it. It depends on what you say and what you need the money for. If I can’t help, of course, I will tell you I can’t do it, he added.

Sarkodie also shared how he lost a friendship due to his refusal to offer financial help.

“If someone is mad at you because of that, it means they were not meant to be in your life. There was an incident way back when I had no money. I was just starting my career, and after earning a little, I spent my last money on myself.

I had nothing left, but I knew I could go to the bank later. Then, a guy walked in and asked for money because he wanted to travel. I told him I didn’t have any, but he refused to believe me. Since then, we have not been on talking terms”, he recounted.

Mahama promise transparency, says no secrecy on how much govt spends on Ghana’s National Team

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians of full transparency regarding government spending on the country’s national teams, emphasizing that all budget allocations must be made public.

This commitment aims to ensure that taxpayers’ money is used responsibly and that the public is informed about how funds are allocated and spent.

Delivering the 2025 State of the Nation Address in Parliament today, Mahama reiterated his commitment to accountability in sports financing, stating, “There would be no secrecy in how much the government spends on our national teams. The budgets presented by the SA and other sports associations must be known to the public. After all, it is the taxpayers’ money that is used to fund these activities.

He also reiterated the Sports Ministry’s inclusion in his government’s reset agenda in waste and unnecesary expendture cut.

“The reduction in government expenditure waste applies to all sectors of the economy, including the Ministry of Sports and Recreation” he added.

His comments come amid growing public interest in how state resources are allocated to sports, with calls for greater scrutiny and efficiency in government spending.

It will be recalled that in the past, the GFA has been criticized for not being transparent about their expenditures. For example, former Sports Ministers Isaac Asiamah and Mustapha Ussif did not provide detailed breakdowns of the state’s expenditure during major tournaments like AFCON 2019 and AFCON 2021. This lack of transparency has led to growing scrutiny and demands for accountability.

Meanwhile, many Ghanaians are frustrated with the team’s poor performance and believe that the funds could be better utilized elsewhere. The Black Stars have struggled in recent years, failing to qualify for major tournaments and not living up to their former glory.

Allah is enough; broken; but not destroyed’ – Naira Marley after court clears him of Mohbad’s death

Nigerian musician Naira Marley has reacted after being exonerated from any involvement in the death of his former signee, Mohbad.

A court ruling acquitted Naira Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, and two others, clearing them of any connection to the case.

Following the verdict, Naira Marley took to his X account to express his relief, sharing a verse from the Quran.

“And whoever puts all his trust in Allah, He will be enough for him. (65:3).”

Naira Marley also went on to recount his ordeal in jail and expressed his patience for the truth to be revealed.

“You thought I would run. Instead, I stood before the justice system, spent time in jail, and faced everything head-on while you changed the story, again and again.

“But God sees all. The truth does not shake. The lies will fade, and time will reveal everything. I have been broken, but I am not destroyed. And when the truth finally speaks, I pray your heart is strong enough to bear it,” he stated.

In another tweet, Naira Marley spoke about how he suffered in silence when fingers were pointed at him for the death of Mohbad. Naira Marley said he was struck in shame and pain after he was accused of killing Mohbad.

“I have carried this weight, this pain, this shame that was never mine to bear. We, as Marlians, were not perfect. We had to grow, we had to adapt. Mistakes were made, but they were business-never war. I made peace with Mohbad. We understood each other beyond the noise, beyond the misunderstandings. And you know this,” he tweeted.

A Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, has officially cleared Naira Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, Mohbad’s former manager Opere Babatunde, and Primeboy of any involvement in the singer’s death, ruling that they have no case to answer.

Meanwhile, the court found Mohbad’s auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and his friend, Ayobami Sadiq, liable for reckless and negligent actions. They will now face prosecution under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

The verdict has stirred mixed reactions, with some supporters welcoming the ruling, while others continue to call for justice for Mohbad.

SONA: You will be paid to the last pesewa owed – Mahama assures bondholders

President John Dramani Mahama has reassured bondholders of the government’s commitment to fulfilling its debt obligations, emphasizing that every pesewa owed will be repaid in full.

Delivering the 2025 State of the Nation Address in Parliament, he highlighted the government’s proactive approach to debt management, including the creation of financial buffers to ensure the timely repayment of both domestic and external debt.

“As we have done previously, we are building buffers in the sinking funds and adopting prudent debt management practices to ensure the prompt repayment of upcoming domestic and external debt maturities,” he stated.

Mahama further disclosed that the government had successfully settled a matured coupon payment amounting to $6.081 billion in cash and $3.46 billion in kind for all domestic debt exchange programme bondholders due in February 2025.

“The good news is that we have built additional buffers in the sinking funds to honor the maturing bonds due in July and August. Bondholders can rest assured that they will be paid to the last pesewa that is owed them,” he affirmed.

His assurance comes amid heightened concerns about Ghana’s debt sustainability and the government’s ability to meet its financial commitments.

Under the previous government, bondholders faced payment issues due to economic challenges and delays in debt servicing efforts by the government. Ghana’s financial difficulties strained its ability to meet debt obligations, leading to delays in payments. The government initiated a Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) to restructure its public debt, causing uncertainty and payment delays.

The terms of the debt restructuring resulted in significant investor losses, which led to resistance and a lack of participation in the program. Additionally, a general lack of confidence in the government’s ability to manage the debt restructuring process effectively further complicated the situation. These factors collectively caused the payment problems experienced by bondholders, resulting in frustration and protests among the affected investors.

  • Lilwin and Martha Ankomah agrees to settle the GHS 5m defamation lawsuit

Lilwin and Martha Ankomah agrees to settle the GHS 5m defamation lawsuit

Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah and actress Martha Ankomah have agreed to settle a GH₵5 million defamation lawsuit out of court. Both sides have finalized the terms of their agreement.

The decision was made on Tuesday, February 25, after previous settlement talks failed, which was announced in open court.

According to Starr FM, the next step requires both parties to submit the agreed settlement terms and appear in court on April 1, 2025. Justice Forson Baah Agyepong will then officially approve it as a consent judgment.

Earlier on February 25, 2025, Lil Win and his team offered GH₵150,000 as compensation, including GH₵50,000 for legal fees. However, Martha Ankomah’s lawyers dismissed the offer, calling it an “eyesore”.

We have been pursuing the defendant for a settlement,” counsel for Ankomah stated. “My learned friend (counsel for Lil Win) is present, and I have contacted her multiple times to reach an agreement, but to no avail.

    Rejection of Initial Offer

Counsel for the plaintiff revealed that it was only on the preceding Saturday that the defendant’s legal team proposed a new offer, which was still deemed “an eyesore.”

Nii Applatu Plange, counsel for the plaintiff, stated,

In our view, it is not an offer we can entertain further, so we have returned to court for the case to proceed.

The defence counsel confirmed that the statements made by the plaintiff’s legal team were largely accurate but insisted that Lil Win’s offer was “reasonable.”

I am, however, surprised to hear my learned friend describe it as ‘an eyesore, she remarked.

Acknowledging the plaintiff’s stance, she added, “We are at the mercy of the plaintiff and the court.”

To clarify, counsel for the plaintiff further noted,

At the last sitting, we significantly reduced our demand from GH€5 million to GH€2 million. However, when my learned friend called, she only proposed covering legal fees and GH€100,000 for Martha to abandon the case.

According to him, this proposal was unacceptable and was the basis for his description of it as “an eyesore.”

Counsel for the defendant explained that “We proposed GH€100,000 for Martha and GH€50,000 for legal fees, bringing the total to GH€150,000.

She further elaborated,”We are approaching Easter, and we recognise that the damages caused to the plaintiff are immeasurable.

We are doing this in the spirit of Christianity… We acknowledge that we cannot put a price on Martha Ankomah’s stature and reputation, she pleaded in mitigation.

She also disclosed that “We are proposing a substantial sum of 1.5 billion in old currency,” arguing that the offer was reasonable.

However, the plaintiff’s legal team also raised concerns about the defendant’s handling of a retraction and apology, which was initially rejected.

Presiding judge Justice Forson Baah Agyepong, who had earlier encouraged both parties to settle, remarked, “I will not intervene any further; I have advised both parties sufficiently.”

As the plaintiff’s legal team remained resolute in rejecting the GH€150,000 offer and insisted on proceeding with the case, Lil Win consulted his team. A member of his management whispered to his counsel, who then informed the court that Lil Win was willing to increase the offer to GH€200,000, inclusive of legal fees.

This prompted further discussions in open court, followed by a private negotiation session. After nearly two hours, both parties emerged to announce that they had reached a final agreement on the terms of settlement.

Following a review of their schedules, both parties agreed to return to court on 1st April 2025 for the terms to be officially adopted as a consent judgment.

2.5k million followers: TikToker Ama Pokuaa Memeneda Ba says she earns no income from her content

Media personality and social media influencer Ama Pokuaa Memeneda Ba has revealed that despite having approximately 2.5 million followers, she is not earning money from her TikTok content.

In an interview on The Delay Show with Deloris Frimpong Manso, Ama Pokuaa discussed her failed attempts at joining the military, her venture into the media, and her eventual transition into content creation, primarily on TikTok.

When asked if she earns from her TikTok posts, Ama Pokuaa responded, “The videos I post on the platform don’t make me any money. It’s only when a follower gifts me that I can convert those gifts into cash.”

She clarified that while some creators go live on TikTok to request gifts, she does not engage in such practices.

Ama Pokuaa also disclosed that she has not secured any major brand deals and relies instead on occasional promotions for small businesses.

“I don’t have any contracts from brands either. Only one or two business owners contact me to promote their products,” she said.

In a lighthearted moment, she expressed her desire for a brand deal with Delay, saying, “I would be very happy if I got a brand deal from Delay,” which elicited laughter from the host.

  • Cement prices up effective today, retailers to pay GHS 120 as manufacturers blame import costs

Cement prices up effective today, retailers to pay GHS 120 as manufacturers blame import costs

Cement prices in Ghana are about to go up significantly, with retailers planning to increase the cost by around GHC 9 per bag starting Thursday, February 27th. Some retailers have already started charging the new prices.

Samuel Azu, a cement retailer, confirmed the impending price adjustment, “We have not yet increased the price, but this will take effect starting Thursday. From then on, any customer purchasing a bag of cement will need to pay GHC 120.00.

“This price hike is essential because, without it, we won’t be able to restock. If you don’t have that amount, you won’t be able to buy cement in Tema or anywhere else in the country. The factories have explained that the government has raised port tariffs,” Azu explained.

Azu elaborated on the dependency on imported materials, stating “Since most materials used in cement production are imported, any increase in costs from the source directly impacts the final price.”

Bismark Owusu Tetteh, a retailer, is frustrated with how prices keep changing and believes that stricter regulations are needed.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry (GhCCI) has asked the government to step in and fix the situation before it gets worse. Emmanuel Cherry, the CEO of GhCCI, emphasized the government’s responsibility in addressing the problem.

“The best person to assist us is the government, as they are the ones with the power. The mandate lies with them. We can only talk or advise, but it is their decision to act or not.”

Last year, cement prices became a hot topic, leading to a disagreement between the Cement Manufacturers Association of Ghana and former Trade and Industry Minister, K.T. Hammond. The dispute was over a new law he proposed to control cement prices.

The minister’s plan received mixed reactions from those involved in the cement business.

This year, cement prices are still going up. Some sellers blame the increase on higher port charges.

Video: Several stalls destroyed after gas explosion at University of Ghana’s Bush Canteen

A fire broke out at the Bush Canteen near the University of Ghana, Legon, on Wednesday evening, destroying properties worth thousands of cedis.

Sources say the fire started due to a gas explosion, but fortunately, no lives were lost.

Videos shared on social media show flames spreading quickly after the explosion, with thick smoke filling the sky.

Students and food vendors in the area quickly ran to safety as the fire took over the popular food spot.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and are working hard to put out the fire and prevent further damage.

Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the explosion or whether there were any injuries.

  • KNUST food research scientists detect No. 3, a banned substance in some tomato paste

KNUST food research scientists detect No. 3, a banned substance in some tomato paste

Scientists from the Department of Food Science and Technology at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have found a harmful banned substance in some tomato pastes sold in Ghana.

The substance, called Erythrosine or Red Dye No. 3, is used to add color to foods like toffees, candies, and drinks. It is sometimes labeled as “Number 3.” However, Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) does not allow it in tomato paste because it can be dangerous to health.

Another banned ingredient, starch, was also found in some tomato paste samples during the research. In Ghana, tomato paste and tomato mix are popular because they are a cheaper and more convenient alternative to fresh tomatoes, especially when fresh ones are expensive or out of season.

The study, conducted in Kumasi and Accra, checked the quality of different brands of tomato paste. Eight brands that met labeling requirements were tested. All the samples had the usual red to dark red color, a paste-like texture, and the expected tomato taste.

According to food production rules, tomato paste should contain at least 24% natural tomato. However, some brands had lower tomato content than required.

More concerning, the researchers found Erythrosine in two samples, even though it was not mentioned on the labels. Starch was also found in some products, ranging from 1g to 24g per 100g of tomato paste.

In January, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) banned Erythrosine in food because of its health risks. Companies have been given two years to remove it from their products.

Dr. Abena Boakye, the lead researcher from KNUST, urged the Ghana FDA to strengthen its regulations not only for tomato paste but also for candies, drinks, and other foods that may contain this harmful dye.

She called for further research and policy changes to ensure the safety of food products available to Ghanaians.

The researchers also recommended that the findings be used to guide stakeholders in ensuring the availability of safe tomato concentrates and other food products on the market.

‘Come on guys, my dad cannot be a racist’ – Drogba defends ex-manager in Galatasaray case

Former Chelsea and Galatasaray striker Didier Drogba has come to the defense of his former coach, José Mourinho, amid allegations of racism. On Wednesday, Drogba stated that Mourinho “is not a racist,” adding that history supports this claim.

The controversy arose after Galatasaray accused Mourinho, now managing Fenerbahçe, of making racist remarks following a heated 0-0 draw between the two Turkish rivals on Monday.

The match, officiated by a Slovenian referee, saw Mourinho comment on an early challenge, suggesting that a Turkish referee would have issued a yellow card “after the big dive and their [Galatasaray’s] bench jumping around like monkeys.”

Galatasaray has since announced plans to pursue legal action against Mourinho, citing “racist statements,” and has lodged complaints with football’s governing bodies.

Drogba, who played under Mourinho in two separate spells, firmly rejected the allegations, standing by his former manager.

“Trust me when I tell you I have known Jose for 25 years and he is not a racist and history [past and recent] is there to prove it,” Drogba, who is Black, wrote. “Let’s focus on our games, support our brilliant lions and let’s win the league.”

Drogba added: “How can my ‘Dad’ be a racist. Come on guys.”

Meanwhile, Fenerbahçe SK has also rejected the accusation, saying the remarks had nothing to do with racism and were “deliberately taken entirely out of context and distorted in a misleading manner.”

The club said it was planning to take a legal action “against this baseless accusation.”

The Turkish football federation’s disciplinary board is expected to make an announcement on the incident in the coming days.

This generation of players can’t handle criticism, it comes of as offensive to them – Erik ten Hag

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes today’s footballers struggle to handle criticism, viewing it as discouraging rather than constructive—unlike players from his generation.

During his tenure at Old Trafford, Ten Hag had several high-profile disputes with key players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford. His time in charge came to an end in October after two and a half years at the helm.

“This generation usually find it difficult to deal with criticism,” Ten Hag told SEG Stories, the media arm of his management agency. “Criticism really gets to them.

“The generation that I grew up in had much thicker skin. You could be much more direct.

“I was approached much more directly. If I would do that with my current group of players I would demotivate them.

“If you do that to the current generation they find it offensive.”

Erik ten Hag spent his entire playing career in the Netherlands from 1989 to 2002 before transitioning into management.

In his first season as Manchester United’s head coach, he guided the team to a third-place finish in the Premier League, securing Champions League qualification and winning the Carabao Cup.

However, his tenure was marked by high-profile clashes, including a fallout with Cristiano Ronaldo, who publicly criticized him in an interview with Piers Morgan, saying he had no respect for the Dutchman.

Ten Hag’s second full season was far more challenging. United slumped to eighth place in the league—their worst-ever finish—suffering a record 14 defeats. Early in the campaign, he had a public dispute with Jadon Sancho, dropping the winger after questioning his effort in training before a 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

Sancho responded by calling out the coach on social media. Another controversy arose in January 2024 when Marcus Rashford was dropped after a mix-up over the timing of a night out in Belfast.

Despite these struggles, United triumphed in the FA Cup final against Manchester City in May, leading to Ten Hag’s contract being extended by two years. However, after winning just four of United’s first 13 league matches, he was dismissed in October.

Speaking to SEG, Ten Hag revealed he had received multiple job offers since his departure but would not consider a return to management before July 1.

Meanwhile, his successor, Rúben Amorim, has been unable to turn things around. United now sit 15th in the league with just 30 points, having suffered 12 defeats in 26 games.

  • Apple’s AI mistakenly transcribes ‘racist’ as ‘Trump’; company pledges to resolve issue

Apple’s AI mistakenly transcribes ‘racist’ as ‘Trump’; company pledges to resolve issue

Apple says it is working to resolve an issue with its speech-to-text tool after reports emerged of iPhones transcribing the word “racist” as “Trump.”

This comes after their speech-to-text tool on iPhones has been mistakenly transcribing the word “racist” as “Trump” before correcting itself. This glitch has caused outrage among Trump supporters and conservative commentators, leading to widespread criticism.

The tech giant suggested that the error in its Dictation service may stem from a difficulty in distinguishing words containing the letter “r.”

“We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers Dictation and we are rolling out a fix today,” an Apple spokesperson said.

A speech recognition expert has cast doubt on Apple’s explanation for the AI transcription error, calling it “just not plausible.”

Peter Bell, a professor of speech technology at the University of Edinburgh, suggested that the issue was more likely caused by a deliberate change to the software rather than a simple phonetic mistake.

Videos circulating online show instances where Apple’s Dictation tool incorrectly transcribes the word “racist” as “Trump” before quickly correcting itself. However, in some cases, the word is transcribed accurately from the start.

The BBC has not been able to replicate the error, indicating that Apple may have already implemented a fix.

Prof. Bell challenged Apple’s claim that phonetic similarities caused the mistake, arguing that the words “racist” and “Trump” are not alike enough to confuse an AI system. He explained that speech-to-text models are trained using real speech recordings paired with accurate transcripts, making such an error unlikely.

They are also taught to understand words in context – for example, they could distinguish the word “cup” from “cut” if it was within the phrase “a cup of tea”.

Prof Bell says the situation with Apple is unlikely to be a genuine mistake with its data because its English language model would be trained on hundreds of thousands of hours of speech, which should give it a high level of accuracy.
For “less well-resourced languages” he said it could be an AI training issue.

But he said in this case: “it probably points to somebody that’s got access to the process.”
A former Apple employee who worked on its AI assistant Siri told the New York Times: “This smells like a serious prank.”

Apple recently backtracked on an AI-powered feature following complaints from the BBC and other news organizations. The company suspended its AI-generated news summaries after the tool displayed inaccurate notifications, including a false claim that tennis star Rafael Nadal had come out as gay.

In a separate announcement, Apple revealed plans to invest $500 billion (£395 billion) in the U.S. over the next four years. The investment will include the development of a major data center in Texas to support Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI-driven technology.

Meanwhile, CEO Tim Cook indicated that Apple might reconsider its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies following calls from President Donald Trump to eliminate such programs.

Kylian Mbappé to miss Real Madrid clash after tooth extraction

Kylian Mbappé has been excluded from Real Madrid’s squad for their Copa del Rey semifinal first leg against Real Sociedad on Wednesday after undergoing a tooth extraction earlier this week.

Despite coach Carlo Ancelotti stating in his pre-match press conference that the in-form forward—who has netted 14 goals in 2025—would be available, Mbappé was absent from the squad list when it was released on Wednesday.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and midfielder Federico Valverde were also left out of the selection.

“Mbappé will travel tomorrow,” Ancelotti had claimed on Tuesday. “He had a problem with his tooth, he couldn’t train today, but he’ll travel tomorrow, and everyone who travels has the chance to play.”

Kylian Mbappé has enjoyed an injury-free spell at Real Madrid, aside from the broken nose he sustained at Euro 2024.

The French forward has been in prolific form, scoring 17 goals in 23 LaLiga matches and adding seven more in 10 Champions League appearances, including a hat trick against Manchester City last week.

Meanwhile, Thibaut Courtois was not expected to feature against Real Sociedad, as backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has started all three of Madrid’s Copa del Rey games this season. Midfielder Federico Valverde, who played against City while not fully fit, has been given time to rest.

Madrid are entering a demanding stretch of fixtures, with a LaLiga clash against Real Betis this weekend, followed by the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie against city rivals Atletico Madrid.

  • Liverpool’s Arne Slot given two-match ban after derby chaos

Liverpool’s Arne Slot given two-match ban after derby chaos

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been handed a two-match touchline ban and fined £70,000 ($88,500) by the Football Association following his red card in the heated conclusion of the Merseyside derby on February 12.

Slot was dismissed after confronting referee Michael Oliver at full-time, following a scuffle between Everton and Liverpool players. The altercation had resulted in Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucouré and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones receiving second yellow cards and being sent off.

Slot later admitted to acting improperly and using insulting or abusive language toward the match officials.

Liverpool assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff also received a two-game ban and a £7,000 fine for his involvement in the post-match chaos.

Additionally, both Liverpool and Everton were fined for failing to control their players and staff during the incident. Everton was penalized £65,000, while Liverpool received a £50,000 fine.

The full reasoning behind the suspensions and fines will be made public in due course.

The controversy stemmed from an incident in stoppage time when Everton’s James Tarkowski scored a late equalizer to secure a 2-2 draw in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. Doucouré appeared to taunt Liverpool fans while celebrating, prompting an angry reaction from Jones, which led to a brawl.

After the match, Slot shook Oliver’s hand but appeared to make a remark that led the referee to immediately issue him a red card.

  • Brentford coach Justin Cochrane joins Thomas Tuchel’s England backroom team

Brentford coach Justin Cochrane joins Thomas Tuchel’s England backroom team

Brentford coach Justin Cochrane has been named the final addition to Thomas Tuchel’s England coaching team, the Football Association announced on Wednesday.

Tuchel, who officially took over as England’s head coach on January 1, has been gradually assembling his backroom staff. Cochrane will balance his role between England and Brentford as part of this setup.

The 43-year-old is no stranger to the FA, having previously worked with England’s youth teams from 2018 to 2021. He also brings experience from stints at Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Cochrane joins a coaching staff that includes assistant coach Anthony Barry, goalkeeping coach Henrique Hilário, performance coach Nicolas Mayer, and analyst James Melbourne.

Thomas Tuchel will lead England in his first matches as head coach next month when the team faces Albania and Latvia in World Cup qualifiers at Wembley. He is expected to announce his squad for the fixtures on March 14.

Justin Cochrane’s appointment marks another step toward greater diversity in the England coaching setup. He follows in the footsteps of Chris Powell, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, and Ashley Cole, who previously worked under Lee Carsley during his interim tenure after Gareth Southgate’s departure in July.

In partnership with the Professional Footballers’ Association, the FA launched the Elite Coaching Placement Programme in 2018 to improve Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) representation across all England teams.

Last November, the FA set an ambitious goal of having 30% of the England men’s coaching staff come from ethnically diverse backgrounds by 2028. ESPN previously reported that the FA had been in discussions with Tuchel about ensuring BAME representation within his coaching team.

  • ‘EB-5’ visa to be replaced as Trump announces $5M ‘gold card’ residency permit for investor immigrants

‘EB-5’ visa to be replaced as Trump announces $5M ‘gold card’ residency permit for investor immigrants

U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled plans for a new “gold card” residency program, offering foreign investors a pathway to citizenship for $5 million.

This high-value visa is set to replace the existing EB-5 immigrant investor program, which grants green cards to foreigners who create jobs in the U.S. Trump’s Commerce Secretary has criticized the EB-5 system, calling it flawed and rife with fraud.

“You have a green card, this is a gold card,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Tuesday. Permanent residents who are not citizens in the US are known as “green card” holders.

“It’s going to give you green card privileges plus it’s going to be a route to (American) citizenship,” the president added.
What is the EB-5 visa program and why is Trump ending it?

Introduced in 1990, the EB-5 visa program allows foreign investors to obtain immediate green cards by investing approximately $1 million in a U.S. business that creates at least 10 jobs. This visa provides a direct path to citizenship, unlike other green card applicants who often face waiting periods ranging from several months to years.

The program is limited to 10,000 visas annually, with 3,000 specifically allocated for investments in high-unemployment areas, according to the U.S. State Department.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) describes the EB-5 visa as a tool designed to boost the American economy through job creation and foreign capital investment.

However, Trump’s Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, has criticized the program, arguing that it is being misused and that the investment threshold is too low.

“The EB-5 program … it was full of nonsense, make-believe and fraud, and it was a way to get a green card that was low-price. So the president said, rather than having this sort of ridiculous EB-5 program, we’re going to end the EB-5 program,” said Lutnick.

In 2021, the US Government Accountability Office found that EB-5 visas carry significant fraud risks, particularly due to challenges in tracing the origins of applicants’ funds and potential perceptions of favouritism.

“It’ll be people with money,” Trump said, without noting any job-creation requirements.

However, all applicants will undergo thorough vetting to ensure they are “wonderful, world-class global citizens”, according to Lutnick.

When asked if wealthy Russians could qualify, Trump replied, “Possibly. I know some Russian oligarchs who are very nice people.”

TTrump’s proposed “gold card” visa program appears to have no set cap, with the former president suggesting that up to 10 million visas could be sold to help reduce the national deficit.

This initiative comes as his administration continues its aggressive crackdown on undocumented immigrants, with Trump vowing to carry out mass deportations.

Under the proposed plan, each visa would cost around $5 million. Trump announced that further details would be provided in two weeks when the program officially launches.

Currently, green card holders—including those under the EB-5 program—must live as lawful permanent residents for five years before applying for U.S. citizenship. It remains unclear whether recipients of the new gold card visa will have a shorter waiting period.

Golden visa programs are not unique to the U.S.; they exist in several countries, including the UK, Spain, and Greece. Some nations, such as Malta, Egypt, and Jordan, even grant citizenship directly in exchange for investment. The Caribbean is particularly competitive in this space, with Dominica, Grenada, and St. Kitts and Nevis offering passports for as little as $200,000 to $300,000.

These schemes, however, are often criticized for attracting individuals involved in money laundering or fraud. They can also inflate real estate prices in major cities, leading to public backlash. Due to such concerns, countries like the UK, the Netherlands, and Greece have recently scaled back their golden visa programs.

Trump’s proposal could face even greater scrutiny, especially if he bypasses Congress, which is responsible for setting citizenship requirements. While Congress previously approved the EB-5 visa, which Trump now plans to replace, he insists that his new program does not require legislative approval.

Man City’s Pep Guardiola unsure if Haaland will be fit for Spurs clash

Manchester City face an anxious wait over Erling Haaland’s fitness ahead of their Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed.

The prolific striker, who has scored 27 goals across all competitions this season, sustained a knee injury during City’s 4-0 win over Newcastle on February 15. As a result, he was absent from Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool, which left City in fourth place with 44 points.

“Tonight we will know after training,” Guardiola told reporters on Tuesday of Haaland’s prospects of playing against Spurs. “I hope so, but we don’t know yet. He feels better but we will see tomorrow.”

Despite Manchester City’s struggles this season, Pep Guardiola insists that rebuilding the squad will not be the toughest challenge of his career. He emphasized that he has successfully revamped the team multiple times over the past nine years.

Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, City trail leaders Liverpool by 20 points and have suffered early eliminations from both the Carabao Cup and the Champions League. This season, they have already recorded eight league defeats—matching their total losses from the previous two seasons combined.

To reinforce the squad, City invested £180 million ($223 million) in the January transfer window, bringing in Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, and Abdukodir Khusanov. With an average age of 21.6 years, these young talents are expected to play a crucial role in the next chapter of Guardiola’s project.

‘Pay me my money’ – Mzbel calls out Sonnie Badu over $300 debt

Ghanaian singer Mzbel has publicly criticized gospel artist Sonnie Badu for failing to repay a $300 debt nearly nine years after borrowing the money.

In a video posted on Instagram on February 25, 2025, Mzbel, whose real name is Belinda Ekua Amoah, expressed her frustration, stating that she used her Visa card to purchase an item on Badu’s behalf. However, despite multiple reminders, he has yet to reimburse her.

She also took the opportunity to call out so-called ‘men of God’ who, according to her, use juju to manipulate their followers.

Sonnie Badu owes me $300. It has been almost nine years, and I have been patient all this while. He asked me to buy something for him using my Visa card, but he has refused to pay me back.

I do not want anything more than the $300 he owes me. I have reminded him several times, and even recently, I brought it up again, but he took it as a joke. I am not asking for $320; all I want is the money he owes me, she stated.

Beyond her allegations against Sonnie Badu, Mzbel also questioned the credibility of some religious leaders in Ghana.

She criticized certain self-proclaimed ‘men of God,’ accusing them of deceiving their followers for personal gain. According to her, many of these individuals manipulate people under the guise of spirituality, fully aware of the truth. She further claimed that those without genuine divine insight often rely on powers that are not from God.

Mzbel went on to claim that some pastors use unholy means to perform miracles, tapping into supernatural forces that are not of divine origin.

“They manipulate energies through juju,” she alleged. “Ironically, these are the same people who try to convert me to Christianity, and we end up becoming friends. So, Sonnie Badu is not the only one I’ve befriended.”

As of now, Sonnie Badu has not responded to Mzbel’s accusations. However, the controversy has ignited discussions on social media, with many debating the integrity of religious leaders and the issue of financial accountability.

Video: Charlotte Oduro advises men not to marry if they do not have money

Renowned marriage counselor and media personality Charlotte Oduro has addressed recent social media discussions about her marriage with a strong message.

Speaking to a congregation at the Assembly of God Church on February 23, 2025, she advised unmarried men to prioritize financial stability before considering marriage.

According to her, a man should have his own place and a stable source of income rather than depending solely on hope for a successful future.

“If you don’t have money, don’t get married. At the very least, have something that allows you to take care of your family. As a man, you are the head of the household, and you must be established before bringing a woman into your life,” she stated.

While addressing the congregation, Charlotte Oduro also emphasized that people should not blindly trust their partners’ declarations of love.

“Anyone who says, ‘I love you, and I would die for you,‘ is not being truthful because the only one who can truly die for you is Jesus. When you love someone, you don’t think twice about the sacrifices you make for them. However, when challenges arise in a relationship, that is when you truly discover whether the person loves you or not,” she added.

Divorce proceedings: Pep Guardiola, wife using the same lawyer for amicable settlement as their begin

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and his wife, Christina, have begun legal proceedings to formally end their 30-year marriage.

Renowned Spanish showbiz journalist Lorena Vazquez reports that the couple has enlisted the same lawyer to facilitate a smooth and amicable separation.

Vazquez further noted that Guardiola and Christina are committed to handling the process with mutual respect, prioritizing their children’s well-being as they work towards a peaceful resolution.

“The divorce is being prepared conscientiously, and they have left it in the hands of people they really trust. What surprises me the most is that both of them have the same lawyer, who is arranging the whole thing.

“They want it to be amicable for the sake of their children. As you can imagine, money is not going to be an issue, and they are now agreeing on the initial terms to make sure this separation is as cordial as possible,” she said.

Lorena Vazquez noted that the reason Guardiola continues to wear his wedding ring is unknown, but it may signify that he is open to continuing the marriage if possible.

“It’s surprising he’s still wearing his wedding ring, and I wouldn’t be able to tell you if it’s a symbol he wants to carry on wearing as a homage to his marriage or as an open door to reconciliation, because what we’re being told is that he would perhaps be more open to that than his wife,’” she added.

Reports suggest that Guardiola’s decision to extend his contract with Manchester City played a role in the couple’s separation.

The Spanish coach first met Cristina Serra in 1994 when he was 23 and she was 20. Although they officially tied the knot in 2014, they had been together since their initial meeting.

They share three children: Maria, 24, Marius, 22, and Valentina, 17.

With a challenging start to the 2024/2025 season, Guardiola is expected to channel his energy into his managerial duties as he works to restore Manchester City’s form.

Video: Shatta Wale’s meeting with Kelvynboy sparks debate

Kelvynboy has sparked controversy among music fans after a video of him meeting dancehall star Shatta Wale went viral.

What many expected to be a moment of unity in the industry has instead fueled tensions, particularly among supporters of Bhim Nation, who see the interaction as a betrayal.

During their exchange, Kelvynboy referred to Shatta Wale as his “godfather,” while Shatta Wale praised his artistry, even hailing him as the creator of Ghana’s top song.

However, some Bhim Nation fans believe Kelvynboy’s warm association with Shatta Wale—who has a long-standing rivalry with his former mentor, Stonebwoy—signals a shift in loyalty. They argue that his actions could be seen as a subtle jab at Stonebwoy.

Kelvynboy has yet to respond to the criticism, but the debate continues on social media, with fans questioning his intentions and allegiance.

    Watch video below:

The relationship between Kelvynboy and Stonebwoy began to deteriorate in 2019. The fallout was marked by allegations of disrespect from Kelvynboy towards Stonebwoy. Stonebwoy accused Kelvynboy of being ungrateful and disrespectful, which led to the termination of Kelvynboy’s contract with BMG.

Since their fallout, the feud between Kelvynboy and Stonebwoy has continued to escalate. Kelvynboy has made several attempts to reconcile with Stonebwoy, but these efforts have been unsuccessful. In a recent interview, Kelvynboy expressed his desire to mend their relationship, stating that he has been trying for years but has not received a positive response from Stonebwoy.

Stonebwoy, on the other hand, has made serious allegations against Kelvynboy, including claims that Kelvynboy and his associates posed a threat to his life. These accusations have further strained their relationship, with Kelvynboy denying the allegations and accusing Stonebwoy of trying to sabotage his career.
