National Service Authority (NSA)has announced the termination of all volunteer appointments across its offices as part of an ongoing restructuring process.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 25, and signed by Director General Felix Gyamfi, the NSA stated that the decision will take effect on February 28, 2025.
However, exceptions will be made in districts where only one staff member is available, allowing for the retention of a single volunteer.
Similarly, volunteers managing vacant districts will be permitted to keep one assistant, as well as essential personnel such as cleaners, catering staff, and farm workers to maintain operations.
The NSA expressed gratitude to the affected volunteers for their dedication and contributions.
The statement also directed Heads of Departments, Unit Heads, and Regional Directors to retrieve all NSA property, including laptops, documents, and motorbikes, from the departing volunteers before the deadline.
Trade Union Congress (TUC) has urged President John Dramani Mahama to stop the mass dismissal of public servants immediately.
In their statement, the TUC condemned the directive, highlighting its impact on teachers, nurses, and other professionals who have dedicated years to their education and faced challenges in securing employment.
The TUC cautioned that terminating these appointments could have severe consequences for young Ghanaians and damage the country’s democratic image.
“The mass termination of employment of teachers, nurses, and others, who have been educated at great cost to their families and the nation and who may have stayed at home for years struggling to obtain employment, can be devastating for these young men and women,” portions of the statement read.
The TUC’s concerns follow a directive issued by the Chief of Staff,Julius Debrah, on February 10, 2025, instructing all government institutions to revoke appointments made after December 7, 2024.
The directive argued that the appointments were not in line with established good governance practices and principles, resulting in widespread job losses.
However, the TUC has urged the President to prevent the country from descending into what it described as a “partisan slippery hill.”
“This will be the greatest political settlement of the 4th Republic. It will ripple in eternity and reset the politics of Ghana,” the statement added.
TheMinistry of Foreign Affairshas urged stakeholders to stay informed about the ongoing situation and to work with relevant authorities for guidance.
Ghana’s diplomatic missions in Ouagadougou and border agencies will closely monitor the situation and provide necessary support to traders.
Given the increasing challenges facing the agricultural sector across West Africa, regional cooperation and contingency planning are becoming increasingly important.
The Ministry has reassured the public that it will continue engaging with Burkinabe officials to find solutions that minimize economic disruptions while respecting Burkina Faso’s domestic needs.
In the meantime, Ghanaian importers are advised to be cautious, follow trade regulations, and explore alternative sourcing options to ensure a stable supply and price stability of these essential commodities.
“Ghanaian traders and businesses involved in importing these commodities from Burkina Faso are advised to take note of this directive and comply accordingly to avoid any sanctions or confiscation of goods,” the Ministry’s statement highlighted.
Burkina Faso initially announced the export restrictions in December 2023, citing concerns over food sufficiency amid challenging climatic conditions affecting agricultural output.
The ban has since been extended, as reaffirmed by the November 2024 communique, highlighting the country’s determination to stabilize local food supplies.
Ghana, a significant importer of cereals from its northern neighbour, could face short-term supply disruptions and potential price hikes in local markets as a result of the ban.
Market analysts warn that the restriction could have ripple effects on Ghana’s food security, particularly for industries reliant on imported grains and beans.
Local traders, especially those operating along the border regions, have been urged to seek alternative sources or adjust supply chains to mitigate the impact.
“We understand the implications for Ghanaian businesses, but compliance is crucial to maintaining smooth bilateral trade relations,” the Ministry added.

Carlo Ancelotti pushed back against Javier Tebas on Tuesday, criticizing the LaLiga president for frequently commenting on Real Madrid. He also accused Tebas of being disrespectful after the latter claimed the club was “crying” over refereeing decisions.
Madrid has expressed frustration over several recent officiating calls, particularly after dropping points against Espanyol, Atlético Madrid, and Osasuna in successive league matches. In response, the club filed a formal complaint with the Spanish football federation (RFEF) this month, alleging referee misconduct and match manipulation.
At a talk with the news agency Europa Press on Monday, Tebas said he was “starting to feel ashamed” of being a Real Madrid fan, saying the club was “crying” about officials and creating a “conspiracy theory” which was “an insult to the rest of the clubs.”
“Tebas talks about Real Madrid too much,” Ancelotti said in a news conference on Tuesday, ahead of Madrid’s Copa del Rey semifinal first leg at Real Sociedad.
“Since I’ve been here, it’s happened often. It’s a lack of respect to millions of Madrid fans to talk like that. The president of LaLiga should focus more on solving the problems that Spanish football has.”
Madrid have frequently highlighted officials’ decisions on their TV channel, before and after matches. President Florentino Pérez has called for reform of the refereeing system, and RFEF president Rafael Louzan has even claimed that Pérez told him he’d like to see English referees in Spain.
“I don’t know what ‘shame’ [Tebas] feels,” Ancelotti said. “I think all Madridistas are proud to be fans of this club.”
Also on Tuesday, Tebas hit back at Ancelotti’s comments saying on X: “Carlo, it’s a shame that they’re using you for this, given the experience you have.”
Tebas aimed his comment directly at Ancelotti, saying: “Carlo, everyone knows that institutions are reflected in what their leaders do and say. And in football, even more so. So, when I said that ‘Real Madrid has become a club that cries a lot,’ I was obviously referring to the fact that it is its leaders who are constructing this victim and conspiratorial narrative: ‘an adulterated competition,’ ‘the bias of all referees is anti-Madrid,’ ‘they are all against Real Madrid’…
“Strange, isn’t it? Because that speech, besides being disrespectful to the competition, is also disrespectful to the clubs that beat you on the field, either because they were better or simply because they were luckier. That is disrespectful to millions of fans.
“I have been a Madrid fan since I was a child, and this whole narrative that the management is promoting goes against the values that we have always known.”
Manchester Unitedhas revealed plans to lay off up to 200 more employees as part of ongoing efforts to reduce costs.
Last season, the club let go of around 250 workers during an initial round of job cuts. Now, just days after marking one year since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner, United has announced further redundancies. This time, between 150 and 200 staff members will be affected.
“We have a responsibility to put Manchester United in the strongest position to win across our men’s, women’s and academy teams,” CEO Omar Berrada said in a statement released on Monday. “We are initiating a wide-ranging series of measures which will transform and renew the club.
“Unfortunately, this means announcing further potential redundancies and we deeply regret the impact on those affected colleagues. However, these hard choices are necessary to put the club back on a stable financial footing.”

According to ESPN sources, Manchester United staff will learn between April and June whether they will lose their jobs due to the latest round of cuts.
The club has reported losses of over £300 million ($379 million) in the past three years.
Last week, United released their latest financial report, revealing that revenue for the last three months of 2024 had fallen to £198.7 million, compared to £225.8 million during the same period in 2023.
“We have lost money for the past five consecutive years,” Berrada added. “This cannot continue. Our two main priorities as a club are delivering success on the pitch for our fans and improving our facilities. We cannot invest in these objectives if we are continuously losing money.”
In addition to further redundancies, United are planning to move some staff from offices at Old Trafford to their Carrington training ground. There will also be a “reduced presence” at their London office in Mayfair.
In a staff meeting on Monday, staff were also informed that free lunches at Old Trafford will come to an end. A source has told ESPN that bosses expect the move to save the club more than £1m every year.
Sources added to ESPN that the club will focus its charitable donations on the Manchester United Foundation (MUF) and Manchester United Disabled Supporters’ Association, with conversations ongoing with the MUF over the value of the contributions.
Mikel Artetahas made it clear that he will never give up on Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League, saying, “Over my dead body.” However, he admitted that his team must achieve something never seen before in league history to claim the title.
Arsenal’s title hopes took a major hit last weekend after a shocking home defeat to West Ham. To make matters worse, Liverpool’s victory over Manchester City widened the gap, leaving Arsenal 11 points behind the league leaders.
When asked if he would concede the title, Arteta defiantly said: “Over my dead body.
“If not I will go home. Mathematically it is possible. You are there, you have to play every game, suddenly three days ago we could close a gap and you are like ‘you are one-and-a-half games away.’ It doesn’t matter, we have to continue to go.”
“The difficulty is higher than three days about but if you are going to win the Premier League you have to do something special. If you are going to win the Premier League with the circumstances we have you will probably have to do something that nobody else has done in the history of the Premier League.”
The loss to West Ham further highlighted Arsenal’s shortage of attacking with options, with Raheem Sterling, Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri the only available forwards at the moment.
Arteta confirmed that injured duo Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are “progressing really well” but said they are still some way away from making a comeback.
The one positive Arsenal could take from the game was the return of Ben White, who made his first appearance since November after undergoing knee surgery.
“He is a player that has given us something very special, especially in that right unit. We haven’t played the right unit at all this season with him, Bukayo and Martin [Ødegaard]. It is great to have him back, more options, his energy, the way he is around the team. He certainly has been missed,” he said.
Arsenal will look to get their faltering title charge back on track at Nottingham Forest, and Arteta was full of praise for his counterpart Nuno Espirito Santo for the job he’s done to take the club into third-place this season.
“Unbelievable. Not only with [Forest] but what he did at Wolves, it was incredible. Huge pride for him, the coaching staff, the club as well,” he said.
“What they have generated after coming into the Premier League is a remarkable story so well done to them.”
Ghanaian footballer Mohammed Kudus has named Kamaldeen Sulemana as the best player he has ever played alongside.
Kudus and Sulemana both developed their skills at the Right to Dream Academy before moving to Danish club FC Nordsjaelland.
Although their careers have taken different paths since leaving Denmark, they reunite whenever they play for the Ghana national team.
Speaking to Rising Ballers, Kudus, who now plays for West Ham United, was asked about the most talented teammate he has shared the field with, and he chose Sulemana
“I’ll go with Kamaldeen [Sulemana] of Southampton because I have known him since he was young; because we played the same academy in Ghana, Denmark also,” he said.
“He’s the best player I’ve played with. I think he has everything a winger needs to succeed.”
While Kudus continues to make a name for himself in London, Kamaldeen has struggled with injuries at St Mary’s Park and is only getting stability under Ivan Juric.
West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus has described his first injury at Ajax as the most significant setback of his career.
Kudus, who joined Ajax from FC Nordsjaelland in 2020, made a strong start at the Dutch club, impressing in domestic competitions. His highly anticipated UEFA Champions League debut against Liverpool at the Johan Cruyff Arena was meant to be a defining moment.
However, just minutes into the game, he suffered an injury that sidelined him for three months, disrupting his early momentum.
Speaking in an interview with Rising Ballers, the Ghanaian midfielder reflected on that moment, calling it the lowest point of his football journey so far.
“I would say my first injury [is my biggest career setback],” he said.
“I had just joined Ajax, and I was playing well. It was my debut in the Champions League against Liverpool, ten minutes into the game I tore my meniscus and I was out for 3-4 months.
“This was a big blow. It was one of the things I had been working towards my whole life, then getting hit like this was hard.”
Kudus seasons later found his mojo again and played against the Premier League side, scoring against them at Anfield.
“When I returned, I played in the Champions League and played against Liverpool again and scored. It brought back memories of all the hard work paying off was nice,” he added.
During his three-year stay atAjax, Kudus scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists in 87 appearances across all competitions for the first team.
2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards TGMA is looming and while many anticipate the return of ‘Dancehall King’ Shatta Wale, his participation remains uncertain.
Conversations of his comback follow a recent statement from his manager, Sammy Flex, who, while expressing his desire for Shatta Wale to attend, acknowledged the final decision lies with the artiste himself.
“It’s my wish, not Shatta’s,” Flex told Onua FM’s Onua Showbiz host, Nana Kwame Gyan.
“We have a boss, and we can’t force things to happen. If he’s not ready, I can’t force him,” Flex added.
Flex’s comment highlight the ongoing tension surrounding Shatta Wale’s relationship with the TGMA organizers, Charterhouse. The artiste’s absence from the 2019 awards, following a public altercation with fellow artiste Stonebwoy, led to a ban for both artistes.
Despite this, Flex believes Shatta Wale has achieved a level of success that transcends competition. “He’s reached the God level of music, and most young musicians look up to him as an inspiration,” he stated.
“My appeal is for him to go and support the younger artistes, because any artiste who wins will surely mention his name.”
Flex’s call for unity echoes the desire for a more collaborative and supportive environment within the Ghanaian music industry. However, the final decision on Shatta Wale’s attendance rests with the artist himself.
“He’s already achieved a lot, and doesn’t need to compete with anyone,” Flex added. “If he decides he’s not going, then it’s fine.”
Whether Shatta Wale chooses to attend the TGMA this year remains to be seen. His decision will likely have significant implications for the event’s overall atmosphere and the future of the relationship between the artiste and the awards organizers.
Ghanaian gospel musician and preacher, Sonnie Badu, has cautioned men to be mindful of their interactions with women.
In a video shared online on February 23, 2025, he advised that for a man to achieve success, he must develop a sense of caution when dealing with women.
Sonnie Badu further claimed that some women possess the ability to harm their partners over time without showing any remorse.
“The first rule to prosperity in life is to fear women. A woman would poison you and still be smiling with you. Women are far smarter than men. After you have cheated on her, she would notice it because they are like detectives…
“You look at what she said to you that no woman has ever said to you, and it is to walk away from the house and never return,” he said.
Galatasaray has announced plans to take legal action against Fenerbahce manager José Mourinho, accusing him of making “racist statements” following their goalless draw on Monday.
In a statement, the club did not specify which remarks were considered offensive. However, during his post-match press conference, Mourinho said that the home team’s bench was “jumping like monkeys” and criticized Turkish referees, claiming it would have been a “disaster” if a local official had overseen the game.
The Istanbul derby was officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic after both clubs requested a foreign referee for the match.
Beyond pursuing legal measures, Galatasaray has also vowed to file official complaints with football’s governing bodies.
Neither Mourinho nor Fenerbahce has responded to the allegations.
After the game Mourinho was asked about the performance of 19-year-old defender Yusuf Akcicek and said: “I have to thank the referee. After the big dive in the first minute and their bench jumping like monkeys on the top of the kid… with a Turkish referee you would have a yellow card after one minute and after five minutes I would have to change him.”
He added: “I went to the referee’s dressing room after the game, of course the fourth official was there, a Turkish referee. I told him ‘thank you for coming here, you come for a big match’ and I turned myself to the fourth official and I said ‘if you were a referee this match would be a disaster’.”
In a statement, Galatasaray said: “Since the commencement of his managerial duties in Turkey, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has persistently issued derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people. Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric.
“We hereby formally declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and shall accordingly submit official complaints to Uefa and Fifa.
“Furthermore, we shall diligently observe the stance adopted by Fenerbahce– an institution professing to uphold ‘exemplary moral values’ – in response to the reprehensible conduct exhibited by their manager.”
Two-time Champions League winner Mourinho, 62, was appointed Fenerbahce manager last summer and was banned and fined earlier this season for condemning refereeing standards in Turkey.
Before Monday’s game he had welcomed the decision to use a foreign official after previously describing the environment in the country as “toxic”.
“I think it’s important for the credibility, for the image of the match,” Mourinho said.
Ghanaian rapper and entrepreneurOkyeame Kwame has thrown his support behind King Paluta as Artiste of the Year.
In a Facebook post, Okyeame Kwame wrote: “Artiste of the year. Signed sealed delivered. And he is wearing the love equation by ok. Medaase.”
A recent social media post has ignited discussions on who should be crowned Artiste of the Year at the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), even though no specific award scheme was mentioned.
King Paluta
Many industry watchers believe King Paluta has been a standout performer in 2024, citing his impressive consistency and visibility. His success has been fueled by the release of three major hits—Aseda, Makoma, and Pop Champagne—along with a full-length album and a series of performances on both local and international stages.
His dominance in the music scene has led many to see him as a strong contender for the top award.
However, other fans are throwing their support behind King Promise, who was a top contender for the title last year, as well as Stonebwoy, whose stellar work in 2024 has been widely recognized by industry stakeholders. Many believe the dancehall star has made a strong case to reclaim the Artiste of the Year honor.
The TGMA Artiste of the Year award is presented to the musician who has demonstrated the greatest audience appeal and popularity over the year.
The selection is based on input from theAcademy, Board, and General Public, with criteria including the release of a hit single, EP, or album, as well as securing significant nominations.
While anticipation continues to build, the official list of nominees for this year’s awards has yet to be announced by the organizers.
Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, has held a crucial meeting with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and other key stakeholders to strategize on ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply.
This comes after threats for power suppliers and balloing debts plaguing the sector.
The discussions, held at the Ministry of Energy on Monday, February 24, focused on identifying long-term solutions to Ghana’s power sector challenges. Representatives from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), and other power-generating entities participated in the engagement, assessing the sector’s pressing issues.
Key concerns raised included fuel supply limitations, financial constraints affecting power producers, and the need for improved infrastructure maintenance. Participants also explored measures to enhance efficiency and prevent extended power disruptions.
Minister Jinapor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with industry players to stabilize electricity supply, emphasizing that collective action is crucial for strengthening power generation and distribution across the country.
“Ensuring a stable and reliable power supply remains a priority, and we will continue to engage all relevant stakeholders to address the challenges affecting the sector,” he stated.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to implement immediate measures to mitigate power disruptions while working on long-term reforms.
The minister assured the public that regular updates would be provided as efforts to resolve the power supply challenges progress.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s energy sector is burdened with significant debt, which has escalated to over $3 billion as of January 2025. This debt includes financial obligations to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), which stood at $1.2 billion as of October 2024.
The country has been experiencing frequent power outages and load shedding, commonly referred to as “dumsor.” This has been a major issue, affecting both residential and industrial sectors.
Ghana’s electricity is generated from a mix of hydro, thermal, and renewable energy sources. However, the country has lost 10% of its total electricity generation capacity. The current peak demand has surged to 3,618 MW, significantly exceeding the available capacity of 3,251 MW.
Ghana’s informal sector, which employs nearly 80% of the workforce, contributes only 27% to the country’s GDP,exposing a significant productivity gap, according to the inaugural National Report on Productivity, Employment, and Growth by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).
The report highlights the persistent challenges in the informal economy, including low productivity, underemployment, and stagnant wages, which continue to hinder broader economic progress despite the sector’s dominance in employment.
Between 1991 and 2019, labour productivity in Ghana increased at an average annual rate of 3.2%, with the highest gains recorded in capital-intensive industries such as mining and finance. However, these sectors have contributed little to widespread job creation, reflecting an economy that is growing unevenly across industries.
For instance, while the manufacturing sector saw a 14% rise in productivity between 2013 and 2022, employment within the industry expanded by only 2.5%, signaling slow industrial growth. Similarly, the mining sector demonstrated high productivity but limited job generation, emphasizing Ghana’s dependence on resource-based industries that do not significantly absorb labour.
The report further points to a widening disconnect between productivity growth and wages. While workers in finance, insurance, and professional services have experienced higher wage increases, those in household agriculture, trade, and repair services have seen minimal improvements in earnings despite productivity gains.
A sectoral analysis identifies commercial agriculture, manufacturing, transportation, and utilities as key industries driving both employment and productivity improvements. However, the overall pace of economic transformation remains slow, with many workers shifting from traditional occupations to low-productivity urban services, restricting broader economic advancement.
To tackle these issues, the report calls for increased investments in industrialization, the expansion of commercial agriculture, and policies that facilitate the transition of informal enterprises into the formal economy. It also stresses the importance of technology adoption, workforce skill development, and targeted fiscal policies to enhance productivity.
WithGhana at a pivotal economic juncture, experts caution that without bold policy interventions, the nation risks widening income inequality, sluggish productivity growth, and missed opportunities to create sustainable employment.
The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has confirmed that no nurse has been affected by the Chief of Staff’s directive canceling all public sector appointments made after December 7, 2024.
GRNMA’s Assistant Public Relations Officer, Philemon Agyapong, acknowledged that the announcement initially created anxiety among nurses. However, he noted that Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandah had since clarified the situation, easing concerns within the profession.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, February 24, 2025, Agyapong assured, “No nurse has gone home as we speak.”
He explained that following the directive, GRNMA engaged with the Health Minister, who assured them that nurses who had completed the required recruitment process and secured financial clearance would not be affected.
The clarification comes after GRNMA had earlier urged the government to exempt newly employed nurses from the directive, warning of possible industrial action if they were impacted.
GRNMA President, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, stressed the importance of retaining new recruits, emphasizing that their contributions are vital to Ghana’s healthcare system.
Additionally, Agyapong disclosed that financial clearance for 15,200 nurses was secured in June 2024, paving the way for their deployment within the health sector.
“What I’m aware of is that the former administration gave financial clearance to 15,200 nurses, and we are expecting 15,200 nurses to be posted within that period — spanning from August 2024 to December 31, 2024,” he said.
He reaffirmed that the posted nurses are already at work and should not be sent home.
Robin van Persie has officially been appointed as Feyenoord’s head coach. The 41-year-old has departed from Herenveen to take on the role at Feyenoord following a mutual agreement between the clubs.
Van Persie has signed a contract that will keep him at Feyenoord until 2027, and he will be supported by Rene Hake, who was part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff at Manchester United earlier this season.
Van Persie had two playing stints at Feyenoord, where he began and ended his career, amassing 46 goals in 122 appearances. He also served as an assistant coach under Dick Advocaat and worked with Feyenoord’s youth teams before moving to manage Herenveen in May 2024.
Now, he returns to Feyenoord with a wealth of experience, both as a player and coach, ready to lead the team to new heights.
“Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is and I am enormously looking forward, together with a strong staff, to working with the player group at 1908 and then in De Kuip, supported by the Legion, playing matches and achieving successes together.
Last week, Feyenoord parted ways with Brian Priske, who had taken over from Arne Slot at the start of the season, following a disappointing run of one win in six league matches.
Feyenoord currently sits in third place in the Eredivisie, 11 points behind leaders Ajax, despite having played an additional game. They have also made it to the last 16 of the Champions League, overcoming AC Milan with a 2-1 aggregate victory in their playoff.
This marks the first time in Feyenoord’s history that they have reached the Champions League round of 16. They are set to face Inter in a two-legged tie next month.
Asante Kotoko have declared their imminent return to football after the funeral of Nana Pooley, despite their initial threat to boycott matches “until justice is served”.
Pooley was tragically stabbed during the Porcupines’ match against Nsoatreman in Nsoatre during Week 19 of Ghana’s top-tier league. His burial is scheduled for March 6.
Initially, Kotoko insisted they would not resume playing until the perpetrators were brought to justice. However, they have now expressed satisfaction with the progress of the investigation.
Brimah has been identified as the suspect responsible for Pooley’s death and is currently at large.
“I would like to declare that, based on the happenings, Asante Kotoko shall be ready and willingly to return to the pitch after the burial and final funeral rites of the late Nana Pooley,” said Communications Director, Sarfo Duku.
“We also have players that we are paying and at the end of their contracts, we expect that the contracts shall be renewed.
“Secondly, we are all under CAF and very soon, the GFA will be compelled to submit the participants for next year’s [CAF Inter-club competitions] so there are timelines. We have thought it wise that, while we continue to seek justice for our brother, the league and therefore football activities can move on and we are fully prepared.”
Kotokoresumed training on February 19 in a bid to be in shape ahead of their return.
Manchester Unitedhas introduced new cost-saving measures under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, restricting staff lunch options to soup and sandwiches at the club’s Carrington training ground. While players remain unaffected by the changes, coaches and analysts must adhere to the reduced meal choices.
This follows an earlier decision to remove complimentary lunchboxes for matchday staff at Old Trafford.
According to The Sun, the club’s cost-cutting efforts have also impacted its youth teams. The Under-18 squad, which traditionally played FA Youth Cup matches at Old Trafford, was instead directed to Leigh Sports Village, reportedly saving Manchester United around £8,000.
In contrast, previous youth teams, including those featuring talents like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, benefited from the opportunity to compete at the iconic stadium.
These austerity measures come amid financial struggles for the club. Manchester United recently reported a £27.7 million ($35 million) loss for the last quarter of 2024. Ratcliffe’s restructuring has already led to 250 job losses, with plans to cut an additional 200 positions.
Supporters group MUST has criticized the club’s financial decisions, particularly the costly managerial changes, such as handing Erik ten Hag a contract extension only to sack him four months later, and hiring Dan Ashworth from Newcastle before dismissing him within five months.
Despite the financial belt-tightening, Manchester United continues to struggle on the pitch. Currently sitting 15th in the Premier League, just above West Ham on goal difference, the club faces increasing pressure as it prepares to take on relegation-threatened Ipswich Town in an upcoming fixture.
La Liga president Javier Tebas has sharply criticized Real Madrid for their recent complaints about refereeing decisions, labeling the club as ‘a crying club’.
Over the past season, Real Madrid has made it a habit to put pressure on referees before matches. Their official channel, Real Madrid TV, frequently highlights decisions that they believe unfairly go against them, allegedly aimed at influencing upcoming matches. However, their complaints have reached a peak in the last month.
Earlier in February, Real Madrid drew 1-1 with Osasuna. During the match, Jude Bellingham was sent off by referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero after using offensive language towards the official. Subsequently, Real Madrid accused La Liga referees of bias and claimed there was a conspiracy against them.
Tebas responded by calling out Real Madrid’s behavior and specifically criticized club president Florentino Perez, referring to his leadership style as ‘oligarchic’.
In an interview with The Objective, Tebas said (as quoted by Diario AS): “We have had a lot of refereeing controversy in recent weeks. From Real Madrid TV, Real Madrid puts the controversy and writes a false story and questioning all football. It is a verbally aggressive and manipulated story. I know a lot of Madridistas who don’t agree with Real Madrid, who are a crying club – they’re crying all day. They cry for the weekend, they will cry for the following weekend and it is all the fault of a conspiracy.
“It makes an excessive one of the VAR. From the ‘OK Jose Luis’, Florentino called the president of the Federation, Rubiales, and since then it has been used excessively. We want to change the refereeing system. If you do a survey of other clubs they will say that Real Madrid and Barcelona are the most benefited, but they don’t have television to say it. RMTV is the only media that is with this story.
“Florentino’s football deceives people. It represents oligarch football, it represents only football for the rich. He wants to decide everything, the money that is distributed. My Madridismo is hibernating, but from time to time I get blown up. A part of Real Madrid is having the mistake of venerating everything that Florentino does, of saying that everything is fine. Real Madrid should have an independent opinion. I’m happy whenReal Madridwins. I was very happy when Real Madrid won the Champions League. I’m a Madridista, not a Florentinista.”
India and the UK will resume discussions on a free trade agreement on Monday after nearly a year-long break due to elections in both countries.
The UK’s Business and Trade Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds, is in Delhi to meet India’s Trade Minister, Piyush Goyal, for two days of negotiations.
Reynolds described the trade deal as an obvious opportunity, given India’s expected rise to become the world’s third-largest economy soon.
Since 2022, the two nations have held multiple negotiation rounds, but no final agreement has been reached. Key issues include India’s high tariffs on Scotch whisky and its request for lower fees and easier visa rules for Indian students and professionals moving to the UK.
This is the first round of talks since the Labour Party took charge in the UK, and Reynolds has emphasized that securing the trade deal is a top priority for his government.
“Growth will be the guiding principle in our trade negotiations with India and I’m excited about the opportunities on offer in this vibrant market,” he said in a statement.
India’s trade negotiations have gained fresh momentum, particularly in light of U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent move to impose reciprocal tariffs on imports from various countries, including India.
The United Kingdomremains a key trade partner for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, which has set an ambitious goal of boosting exports to $1 trillion by the 2030 fiscal year.
Following a meeting between UK Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and PM Modi at the G20 summit in Brazil, Britain announced in November last year that trade discussions would resume in the new year.
Currently, trade between the two nations stands at £41 billion ($52 billion), according to a UK government report. A potential trade deal could open up new economic opportunities, with London highlighting key sectors such as advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and professional and trade services.
Additionally, an agreement could expand market access for British exports, including automobiles, Scotch whisky, and financial services, which hold multi-billion-dollar potential.
Meanwhile, India is advocating for improved mobility rights for its skilled professionals and students, alongside a push for faster visa processing times to facilitate smoother movement between the two nations.
West Ham United manager Graham Potter lavished praise on Mohammed Kudus after his outstanding performance in the Hammers’ gritty 1-0 win against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.
The Ghanaian midfielder was instrumental at the Emirates Stadium, aiding his team in clinching a crucial three points. In his post-match press conference, Potter expressed deep admiration for Kudus’ impact and dedication.
“He [Mohammed Kudus] was really good. I think every day, he is a bit of an example. Every day in training, he’s been really, really good. His effort and application have been top,” Potter said.
“Sometimes when the team isn’t functioning as well as you would like, the individuals within it don’t look as good as they can be.
“He’s actually been brilliant, and I think he got his reward today because his performance was fantastic,” he added.
Kudus was a constant menace for Arsenal, ending the game as the most fouled player. He also played a key role in the dismissal of Gunners defender Miles Lewis-Skelly, who was sent off after bringing him down to prevent a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
With West Ham hovering just above the relegation zone, they will aim to build on this momentum when they take on struggling Leicester City on Thursday.

Ghanaian musician and songwriter, Trigmatic, has made a startling revelation about the involvement of influential figures in drug cultivation and their alleged use of artistes to promote drug use in the country.
Speaking in a recent interview, Trigmatic expressed concerns about the pressure some artistes face due to the influence of certain high-ranking individuals in society. According to him, these figures deliberately cultivate drugs and strategically involve upcoming artistes in their promotion.
“There are people in high places who cultivate these drugs, and their goal is to use artistes to promote them,” he stated.
The musician also addressed the impact of fame, especially its attraction of attention from women, and emphasized the importance of self-discipline.
“As for fame, it naturally attracts attention, especially from women, but it all depends on how you handle it,” he noted.
Trigmatic furtheradvised young men, particularly those in the entertainment industry, to avoid anything that could control their lives, including drug abuse and womanizing.
“As a man, if you want to be independent mentally, physically, and emotionally, don’t engage in anything that controls you, whether it’s drug abuse or womanizing. I personally avoid anything that puts me under subjection,” he added.
Trigmatic also cautioned young creatives about the harmful effects of drug abuse on their careers.
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM on February 21, 2025, Trigmatic stated that artistes who rely on drugs to boost their confidence are exhibiting signs of weakness.
He emphasized that drugs have the potential to destroy great talent if caution is not exercised.
“I don’t see why you would do something that could kill or destroy you just because advertisers have made it seem cool. If you think that will give you validation, then you are weak. Because if you truly believe in yourself, you won’t do drugs or be swayed by pressure from others,” he said.
Paul Pogba’s18-month ban from football officially ended on Tuesday, but he is in no rush to pick a new club and is likely to wait until the season ends before making a decision, sources told ESPN.
The French midfielder has limited options for now, as he can only sign with teams in Major League Soccer (MLS) before their transfer window closes on April 23 or in Japan’s J1 League, which shuts on March 26.
However, sources say Pogba’s priority is to return to a top European league. He has also kept his options open and has even spoken to Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham. Several clubs, including Marseille, Fiorentina, and some LaLiga teams, have shown interest, but he has turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and Brazil.
Pogba hopes to secure a spot in France’s 2026 World Cup squad and believes playing for a European team, ideally one competing in the Champions League or Europa League, would boost his chances.
The 32-year-old was initially banned for four years after testing positive for the banned substance DHEA. However, after appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, his suspension was reduced to 18 months, which ended on Tuesday.
Now free to play again, Pogba has not played a competitive match since September 2023, when he made a brief appearance for Juventus. His last full 90-minute game was in March 2022 with Manchester United.
During his suspension, Pogba trained on his own with a personal coach and played casual matches in Miami, where he has been living with his family. He plans to stay there while waiting to decide his next move.

Former Minister of Youth and Sports,Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has finally been given a role in President John Dramani Mahama’s second term.
The former Odododiodio MP has been appointed as the National Coordinator for the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
Many expected him to return as Sports Minister, but instead, President Mahama chose Kofi Adams for the role. While no official reason was given, some believe it was due to the need for regional balance and parliamentary considerations.
DRIP was started under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government to improve roads across Ghana. The program provides local government bodies with the tools and resources needed for road construction and maintenance.
Meanwhile, following the challenges the Black Stars faced leading up to their not qualifying for the AFCON in twenty (20) years.
For the first time people and groups expressed their support for Nii Lante Vanderpuye to be reappointed as Sports Minister by the current President when he started naming his Ministers.

The US government will end the temporary protected status (TPS) for 500,000 Haitians living in the country in August, the Department of Homeland Security said on Thursday.
This comes despite deteriorating conditions in the Caribbean country, with gangs controlling about 85% of the capital and sexual violence against children increasing by 1,000% last year, according to the United Nations. TPS is granted to nationals of designated countries facing unsafe conditions, such as armed conflict or environmental disasters.
US President Donald Trump has moved to overhaul parts of the US immigration system since returning to office and promised “mass deportations” and arrests.
Haitians have had Temporary Protected Status (TPS) since 2010, but it will officially end on August 3, 2025.
When this happens, they will no longer have work permits and could face deportation.
On February 1, the Trump administration also decided to end TPS for Venezuelans in the U.S., but this decision is being challenged in court by the National TPS Alliance.
“For decades the TPS system has been exploited and abused,” the Department for Homeland Security said in a statement on Thursday.
The system has allowed Haitians who “entered the US illegally, to qualify for legal protected status,” it added.
The decision to end TPS for Haitians has faced strong criticism.
Last year, over 5,600 people in Haiti were killed due to gang violence. The UN has reported that many families are living in unsafe shelters and struggling with health risks.
Democratic congresswoman Ayanna Pressley called the decision “shameful,” saying it puts people in danger despite the extreme violence in Haiti. She argued that Haitians who have lived in the U.S. for 15 years now face deportation simply because of their nationality.
During his campaign,Trump falsely claimed that Haitian immigrants were eating pets in an Ohio city.
However, local officials told BBC Verify that no real evidence supports this claim. Then US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby called the claim a “conspiracy theory… based on an element of racism”.
Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham (21) hailed the performance of Rodrygo (24) in the Champions League win against Manchester City. Kylian Mbappe hit a hat-trick as Real defeated City 3-1 to win their round of 16 playoff 6-3 on aggregate.
But Bellingham says Rodrygo also deserved recognition for his performance on the night.
He stated afterwards: “Pff… Rodrygo is very underrated. For me he is the most talented player on the team.
“The things he can do with the ball… I see what he does and think ‘how does he do it?’ If I tried that I would sprain my ankle. It’s a pleasure to play with him. I think he’s the one who sacrifices the most.
“We all know that his favourite position is the left. He does a lot for the team from the right even though it’s not his favourite position. He never complains.”
On Mbappe, Bellingham also said: “Everyone knows he’s special. His start was difficult, a lot of pressure in a new team. When the goals came… He’s on another level.
“The confidence he has, you can give him the ball in any situation, his speed… His connection with Vini. It must be terrifying for defenders to play against him.”
Jenni Hermoso, plans to challenge the court’s decision regarding former Spain football chief Luis Rubiales. Rubiales was fined after being found guilty of kissing Hermoso without her consent during the Women’s World Cup. Her lawyer announced the appeal on February 21, 2025 “It is her intention” to appeal, lawyer Angel Chavarria said.
Rubiales said after the verdict on Thursday that he will appeal.
In a case which rocked Spain, prosecutors had sought a prison term of two-and-a-half years for Rubiales – one year for sexual assault and 18 months for coercion for having allegedly put pressure on the player to downplay the incident afterwards.
A judge at Spain’s High Court found Rubiales guilty of sexual assault over the kiss and fined him 10,800 euros (£8,900), but spared him a prison sentence.
The case between Luis Rubiales and Jenni Hermoso began after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final in Sydney, Australia, on August 20, 2023. Following Spain’s historic 1-0 victory over England, Rubiales, who was then the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), grabbed Jenni Hermoso by the head and kissed her on the lips during the medal presentation ceremony. The moment was caught on camera and quickly went viral, sparking widespread outrage.
At first, Hermoso seemed surprised by the kiss but did not immediately speak out against it. However, in a later statement, she made it clear that the kiss was not consensual, contradicting Rubiales’ claims that she had agreed to it.
He insisted that the kiss was mutual and a natural gesture of celebration. He refused to apologize initially, later offering what many viewed as an insincere apology. He also dismissed criticism, calling it a “witch hunt.”
The incident led to massive backlash, with many accusing Rubiales of inappropriate behavior and sexism in football. The controversy quickly became a global topic, with footballers, journalists, and public figures calling for his resignation.
In response to the incident, 81 Spanish players, including all members of the World Cup-winning squad, refused to play for the national team unless Rubiales was removed from his position.
The Spanish government condemned Rubiales’ actions and called for his resignation. FIFA provisionally suspended him, and later, the Spanish Football Federation dismissed him from his role.
Kylian Mbappé,as the owner of Stade Malherbe Caen, made an unexpected visit to the struggling Ligue 2 club on Thursday.
The Real Madrid star, who became Caen’s majority shareholder last summer, used his day off in Spain to travel and support the team. With the club facing possible relegation, he met with the coach and players to boost their confidence.
“I want to show my support,” Mbappé told reporters. “To be in contact with everyone and for them to know that they can count on me, and especially in the situation we’re in.
“If I’m here it’s because I believe in the project. I wanted to come earlier but it was impossible. I told them [the team] that I was with them and that they had to believe. And I saw a group that is not resigned and wants to change the results.”
Mbappé’s visit came just two days after the club’s decision to sack manager Bruno Baltazar on Tuesday and appoint Michel Der Zakarian as his replacement.
Baltazar, who had only taken over the job in December following the sacking of Caen great Nicolas Seube, failed to turn results around.
Caen are winless since Nov. 2 and Monday’s 1-0 defeat at Annecy FC was their ninth straight league loss. Mbappé discovered early on how challenging ownership is with Caen fans upset over the dismissal of Seube.
In the team’s first game of 2025, Caen fans displayed a banner aimed at the Real Madrid star that read ‘Mbappé SMC is not your toy!’
Despite the French team’s dismal form, Mbappé, who scored a hat trick in Madrid’s 3-1 win against Manchester City in Wednesday’s Champions League game, is not giving up hope.
“I think that with the quality of the team and the support of the fans, things can change and I hope that this is a turning point,” he said on Thursday.
“In football, we have seen that nothing is impossible. There is a lack of confidence, but I think that a good run of results can change the team’s spiral.
“I understand the frustration of the people, as I have told them personally, because I have not been through this before. It is normal to be angry, but the people support, fill the stadium and our mission is to give our best.”
Referee Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava has been disciplined for askingLionel Messifor an autograph after Inter Miami CF’s win over Sporting Kansas City in the Concacaf Champions Cup on Wednesday night.
After the match, Ortiz Nava approached Messi, appearing to ask for his jersey as a souvenir. However, it was later explained that he actually requested an autograph for a family member with special needs. Despite this, his actions violated Concacaf’s rules for match officials.
“Concacaf is aware of the interaction that occurred between referee Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava and player Lionel Messi immediately following the final whistle of last night’s Concacaf Champions Cup match between Sporting Kansas City and Inter Miami CF,” a Concacaf spokesperson told ESPN in a statement.
“Upon investigation, Concacaf has learned that the referee approached the player to request an autograph for a family member with special needs.
“The referee’s conduct does not align with the Confederation’s Code of Conduct for match officials and existing processes for these types of requests. The referee has acknowledged his mistake, apologized for the incident, and accepted the disciplinary action Concacaf has applied.”
Sporting Kansas City added that the team informed Concacaf and MLS about the situation.
“We informed Concacaf and Major League Soccer about the incident after the match against Inter Miami CF on Wednesday. We await further review of the matter and the action Concacaf will take,” the team said.
Concacaf has not revealed what punishment the referee will face.
Inter Miami won 1-0 against Sporting KC in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup first round on Wednesday, with Messi scoring in the second half.
The match was originally delayed by a day due to a winter storm warning predicting heavy snowfall in Kansas City. Although no snow fell on Wednesday, players had to compete in extremely cold weather. Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano described the conditions as “not human.”
Inter Miami will play Sporting KC again at Chase Stadium on February 25 for the second leg of the series.
Former Black Stars assistant coach, George Boateng, has criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for making poor decisions after the team’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Boateng was part of Otto Addo’s coaching team after the 2022 World Cup and stayed on until Ghana’s poor showing at AFCON in Ivory Coast. Following the team’s failure, the GFA dismissed the entire coaching staff.
Although Otto Addo was later reappointed as head coach, he could not secure Ghana’s qualification for the 2025 AFCON, making it the first time in 20 years that the country missed the tournament.
Speaking on SuperSport’s Soccer Africa, Boateng emphasized the need for consistency in team management.
“I am a very strong believer in continuity. I said it straight after the tournament [2023 AFCON] and also in the media that, as disappointing as it is, the federation has to analyze it.
“You have to go in-depth to see where the mistakes were in terms of management, players, and staff, and then you replace those who were not competent enough—whether it be the playing body, staff member, or technical team,” he said.
He also questioned whether the GFA had taken the necessary steps to rebuild after the AFCON failure.
“You then rebuild on that, but I am not too sure if that has been done after the Africa Cup of Nations because you can see that after I left, we have now had a bigger slide. At least when I was there, we qualified and were unlucky not to get out of the group stage,” he added.
Boateng has expressed his willingness to take on a head coach role, as rumors suggest he is being considered for the vacant coaching job at Blackburn Rovers.
With Ghana missing out on AFCON, the Black Stars will now focus on their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they will face Chad and Madagascar in Matchday Five and Six.

Ghanaian musicianBen Brainyhas raised concerns about the state of Ghana’s music industry during an interview on Bryt TV.
He expressed disappointment that Ghanaians have not properly preserved their cultural and musical heritage, which has allowed Nigerians to take the lead in Highlife music.
Highlife, a key part of Ghana’s musical history, has influenced African music for years. Legends like E.T. Mensah, Nana Ampadu, and Agya Koo Nimo helped shape the genre. However, Ben Brainy feels Ghana has not done enough to protect and promote it.
He explained that many Ghanaian artists abandon traditional sounds in favor of modern trends, creating an opportunity for Nigerian musicians to step in. By blending Highlife with Afrobeat, Nigerians have made the genre more appealing worldwide, while Ghana struggles to maintain its impact.
“We don’t hold onto our own for long. We started highlife, but now it’s the Nigerians who are making it big with it. We leave what we have and chase other things,” Ben Brainy lamented during the interview with El Baby.
Ben Brainy encouraged Ghanaian musicians and industry leaders to focus on preserving and promoting Ghana’s unique musical style. He stressed that to keep Highlife music alive, Ghanaians must invest in it, share it with the world, and take pride in their cultural roots instead of letting outside influences take over.
Meanwhile, he has released the music video for his song Location. The track, which mixes Afrobeat and Highlife, highlights his signature style and storytelling skills. The video brings the song’s message to life with colorful and engaging visuals.
Through Location,Ben Brainy is not only gaining attention in the music industry but also reminding people of the importance of embracing Ghana’s musical heritage.
