IMF’s Executive Board has completed a review of its surcharge and lending policies, resulting in a reduction in borrowing costs.
In a statement, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva highlighted that, amidst the current global economic challenges and rising interest rates, member countries have agreed on a comprehensive plan to significantly lower borrowing costs.
This initiative aims to maintain the IMF’s ability to assist countries in need while offering relief to borrowers by reducing financial pressures.
She said: “The approved measures will lower IMF borrowing costs for members by 36 percent, or about US$1.2 billion annually,” explaining: “The expected number of countries subject to surcharges in fiscal year 2026 will fall from 20 to 13.”
“This is achieved by reducing the margin over the SDR interest rate, raising the threshold for level-based surcharges, lowering the rate for time-based surcharges, and increasing the thresholds for commitment fees,” Ms Georgieva noted.
The approved package will take effect on November 1, 2024.
“While substantially lowered, charges and surcharges remain an essential part of the IMF’s cooperative lending and risk management framework, where all members contribute and all can benefit from support when needed,” she pointed out.
She said: “Together, charges and surcharges cover lending intermediation expenses, help accumulate reserves to protect against financial risks, and provide incentives for prudent borrowing.”
“This provides a strong financial foundation that allows the IMF to extend vital balance of payments support on affordable terms to member countries when they need it most,” explained the MD.
“This reform helps ensure that the IMF can continue serving our members in a changing world,” she mentioned.
National Road Safety Authority (NRSA),in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has announced that officers from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) and Road Safety Inspectors will be deployed across major highways nationwide starting November 1, 2024.
The deployment aims to address the rising number of road accidents and promote adherence to traffic regulations and safety standards. This initiative follows a disturbing rise in road crashes in recent weeks, with the NRSA reporting the loss of 30 lives and multiple injuries within a month. The authority hopes that this joint effort will significantly reduce road-related incidents and improve safety for all road users.
In its October 17, 2024 press release, the NRSA reiterated the importance of this initiative, citing the urgency to mitigate the alarming increase in road accidents.
“This notwithstanding, the NRSA intends to commission a multi-stakeholder investigation into the crash occurring in Kwapia near Obuasi, under Regulation 8 of the National Road Safety Authority Regulations 2022 (L.I. 2468).
“While these crashes are unrelated to political activities, the Authority wishes to remind Political Parties of the road safety risk associated with electioneering campaigns and the need to observe the Road Safety Code for Political Parties as the electioneering activities reach their peak in the coming weeks,” part of the statement read.
In light of this, the Authority has directed all commercial road transport operators (both passenger and goods), transport departments, and units of public agencies and private organisations, including school bus services and ride-hailing service operators, yet to register their operations with the Authority to ensure compliance or face sanctions prescribed by the National Road Safety Authority Act, 2019 (Act 993) orNational Road Safety Regulations,2022 (L.I. 2468).
“All inter-city passenger (long-distance) commercial road transport companies, unions, or operators must ensure the implementation of prescribed road safety standards and controls, including pre-departure checks, passenger manifests, speed control, and driver tracking among others.
“All persons or individuals operating commercial passenger and goods services, known as “floating” or ‘waa-waa’ should take steps to regularise their operations by registering with a recognised commercial transport union or company by March 31, 2025. Further, the Authority wishes to remind parents and guardians that the legal age for driving in Ghana is eighteen (18). Consequently, parents and guardians should show interest in the safety of wards as road users,” the statement added.
Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC),who were previously part of the Minority Caucus in Ghana’s 8th Parliament, have now transitioned to the Majority side of the House.
This significant and unprecedented shift occurred on Thursday, October 17, 2024, after Speaker Alban Bagbin announced that four parliamentary seats were now vacant, causing a reorganisation of the parliamentary structure.
It follows a move by the NDC MPs on the Speaker, based on Article 97 [1(g) & (h)] of the 1992 Constitution, which states that “A member of Parliament shall vacate his seat in Parliament if he leaves the party of which he was a member at the time of his election to Parliament to join another party or seeks to remain in Parliament as an independent member; or if he was elected a member of Parliament as an independent candidate and joins a political party.”
Background:
On Tuesday, Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader, revealed that he has filed for an injunction to prevent Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, from declaring four parliamentary seats vacant.
His decision to seek legal intervention comes in response to a memo from Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South, who previously informed the Speaker of his caucus’s intention to invoke Article 97(g).
The article demands that the seats of three MPs from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and one MP from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) be declared vacant.
This request followed the decision by the MPs for Agona West and Suhum, both members of the NPP, to file nominations as independent candidates for the 2024 parliamentary election.
Additionally, the independent MP for Fomena has filed to contest under the NPP’s ticket, while the Amenfi Central MP from the NDC has chosen to run as an independent candidate.
Afenyo-Markin’s move is aimed at halting the Speaker’s actions concerning these vacancies.
Article 97 [1(g) & (h)] of the 1992 Constitution states that “a member of Parliament shall vacate his seat in Parliament if he leaves the party of which he was a member at the time of his election to Parliament to join another party or seeks to remain in Parliament as an independent member; or if he was elected a member of Parliament as an independent candidate and joins a political party.”
New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, has thanked bondholders for their willingness to participate in the government’sDomestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).
His comments came after approximately 95% of bondholders agreed to new terms, which include the introduction of new maturity periods, with bonds now maturing between 2027 and 2038.
This agreement played a critical role in restructuring the country’s domestic debt, a key step toward economic stability.
During an interview with Accra-based media on Wednesday, NAPO commended bondholders for what he called their significant sacrifices, which he said were instrumental in aiding the country’s economic recovery efforts.
He emphasised that the voluntary participation of bondholders in the DDEP was crucial, particularly in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and foreign bondholders.
“What we have to know is that if we hadn’t met the DDEP bondholders, our economy, that has now picked up wouldn’t have been possible…If they hadn’t agreed for us to exchange their 95% bonds, we couldn’t have gone through the restructuring process with the IMF, and the foreign bondholders would have not followed for us to achieve this result
They saw that the average Ghanaian has suffered, so they felt compelled to support Ghana’s economy,” he said.
The vice-presidential candidate believes that the bondholders ‘sacrifice did not help the government but benefited all Ghanaians. He also emphasised the importance of dialogue and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that concerns are addressed moving forward.
The DDEP, launched by the government in 2022, is aims to restructure the country’s unsustainable debt by offering lower-interest, longer-term bonds in
exchange for existing ones, a move that faced strong resistance from individual bondholders, financial institutions, and labour unions. But it was deemed essential for securing a $3 billion IMF bailout and stabilising the economy.
Former Majority Leader in Parliament,Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin,now serving as the Minority Leader, surprised many viewers and listeners during a live interview on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
The incident occurred when he insisted that the journalist introduce him using his former title of Majority Leader before he would proceed with the interview.
This surprising request came on the same day the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament, who had been the Majority Caucus in Ghana’s 8th Parliament, officially transitioned to the Minority side. The change followed Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant, altering the political composition of the House and consequently affecting the titles of the leadership.
The decision to declare these seats vacant stemmed from Article 97 [1(g) & (h)] of the 1992 Constitution. This article stipulates that a Member of Parliament must vacate their seat if they leave the party under which they were elected or seek to remain in Parliament as an independent candidate after having initially been elected as a party member or vice versa.
This move, led by NDC MP Haruna Iddrisu, was in response to MPs from the NPP filing nominations to contest the 2024 election as independent candidates, while another independent MP filed to run on the NPP’s ticket.
Afenyo-Markin, whose Effutu seat was not part of those declared vacant, expressed frustration during the interview on Joy FM and JoyNews for not being referred to by his previous title. He explained that he had already filed an injunction at the Supreme Court to challenge the Speaker’s declaration of the seats as vacant and was displeased by the lack of recognition of his former role.
The unexpected nature of the leadership change and Afenyo-Markin’s reaction underscored the tensions within Parliament on that day.
“… Let me hear how you introduce me again.”
🚨ICYMI🇬🇭👊🏾🗣️: Afenyo Markin, who has has ‘assumed the role’ of minority leader following the speaker’s decision, refused to speak to a @JoyNewsOnTV journalist unless addressed by his former title as majority leader.
The journalist responded, “Okay, so we have Alexander Afenyo-Markin, MP for Effutu, on the line.”
The MP, obviously not happy, responded: “You either do the right thing or I just go off.”
The journalist then quickly addresses him again.
“Okay, so I have the Majority Leader on the line, Alexander Afenyo-Markin; is that okay?” the journalist asked.
The MP then retorted, “Young man, how do you do your journalism? You will introduce someone properly. You don’t make these things for me to remind you and all that. What do you gain from it? Is it okay for us to have a banter?”
The journalist responded, “No, no. I only said I have the Majority Leader.” The MP swiftly interjected, saying, “You started with I have Alexander Afenyo-Markin, then you said MP for Effutu, then I had to remind you. Please, let’s do the right thing. Is that okay? So, do the right thing and let’s proceed.” The journalist then said, “Okay, please forgive me. So, let me bring in Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.”
A now satisfied Afenyo-Markin then responded, “Yes, sir, good evening to you; thanks for having me.”
Asamoah Gyan has postponed the All Regional Games, initially scheduled to start this year, to 2025.
Launched in July 2024, the event was designed to unearth sporting talent from across Ghana, with trials already underway to identify top athletes.
In a statement, Gyan explained that the delay would enable organizers to “create a larger and more impactful competition.”
A new date for the 2025 event will be announced soon.
The regions were responsible for holding trials to select their finest athletes, aged 18 to 23, who would compete against their peers from other regions.
The competition was set to feature nine sports: Football, Athletics, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Boxing, E-sports,
The statement continued: “The All Regional Games remains dedicated to its mission of identifying and developing athletes who can proudly represent Ghana on the international stage.
“To our registered athletes, rest assured that your data remains secure, and you will be given priority for the 2025 edition. New athletes will also be welcomed, with the same rigorous regional trials in place to ensure fair selection and representation.”
Asamoah Gyan initially collaborated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the All Regional Games, after being appointed in February as the chairman of the Youth and Sports sub-committee for the party’s manifesto team.
However, six months later, the former Black Stars captain announced his decision to withdraw from the NPP, citing a desire to focus on humanitarian efforts and admitting that he hadn’t “done right by the youth and people of Ghana.”
Asante Forkuo, the personal assistant to Sudan’s head coach, James Kwasi Appiah, recently shared insights about a discussion between Appiah and Otto Addofollowing their goalless draw in the first match at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Forkuo recounted that Otto Addo approached Appiah after the match to caution him about the upcoming game in Libya, warning that his team would capitalise on opportunities that the Black Stars had missed.
In response, Appiah advised Addo not to take the match too personally, emphasising that both are Ghanaians and that it was merely a qualifying game.
Forkuo pointed out that the overconfidence exhibited by both the coach and the Ghanaians contributed to the Black Stars’ defeat in the second leg in Libya.
Hypocrisy and overconfidence killed Ghana After Sudan drew 0-0 with Ghana, most people, including Otto Addo, were confident Ghana will beat Sudan hands-down Otto Addo told Appiah personally, "You will not be lucky in Libya, I will beat you."Appiah replied,"We are all Ghanaians" pic.twitter.com/v3G8nvmdbw

Despite the initial warning, Kwasi Appiah, who was underestimated before the game, tactically outmanoeuvred the Black Stars’ coach, leading his team to a 2-0 victory.
After four matches, Ghana sits third in Group F with two points, and Sudan holds second place with seven points, and Angola leads the group with twelve points.
TheBlack Starswill next travel to Angola for their upcoming match and conclude the qualifiers with a home game against Niger.
Popular Ghanaian actor Van Vicker has shared an emotional message on social media as he and his wife, Adjoa, marked their 21st wedding anniversary.
In an Instagram update on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, Van Vicker likened his marriage to a “bed of thorny roses,” acknowledging both the challenges and beauty of their journey together.
Despite the difficulties he described, Van Vicker emphasised three important aspects that, in his view, have allowed their marriage to endure and flourish over the years.
“Today is my 21st wedding anniversary. I am grateful to God. Marriage is a bed of thorny roses. It has extremely lovely times and really trying moments. In all moments, ‘THE WILL’ is key. Getting married to the ‘right’ person is critical (knowing the person substantially). Staying ‘in love’ is paramount (not just ‘loving’ your spouse).
“And finally for me, it’s ‘the desire’ to want to stay married (in the absence of abuse).
The culminated effect of these 3 points may transcend those thorns in the roses. Prickly as they may be, however, the internal remedies are sufficient to let you move to the next day and the next and for years,” he wrote.
He further expressed his gratitude to God for the journey of their marriage and praised his wife for her unwavering support over the past 30 years.
“Regardless of the thorns, love is still a beautiful thing. I have no regrets about being married and staying married. I pray for Grace to continue this beautiful struggle.
I am blessed to have my wife Adjoa Van Vicker by my side all these years. I have known her for 30 years of life. Happy anniversary to us,” he concluded.
Van Vicker and his wife Adjoa tied the knot on October 16, 2003, and have been together as high school sweethearts for over 30 years.
A tragic accident has resulted in the death of a military officer from the 11Mechanised Battalion in Bawku, with five others left in critical condition.
The incident took place near Binduri in the Upper East Region.
Eyewitnesses reported that the military vehicle, registered as 15 GA 04, was en route from Bawku to Bazua when it suddenly went off the road and rolled over several times.
The impact of the crash led to the immediate death of one officer, while five others suffered serious injuries.
In a tragic incident near Kwamo in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti region, 20-year-old Samuel Obenghas been accused of killing his 8-year-old brother, Messiah Akomeah.
Following the horrific event, Samuel returned home to notify his uncle about the murder, claiming he was under the influence of a spirit when he lured his younger brother to the secluded area where the crime occurred.
Kofi Appiah, the suspect’s uncle, expressed his disbelief during an interview with Adom News, noting that while Samuel has a history of smoking marijuana, he never anticipated such a violent act.
Authorities have since discovered the nearly decapitated body of the boy, which has been taken to the mortuary for examination.
Prominent sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has disclosed thatKurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association, dismissed Kwasi Appiah in 2019 due to his selection of ‘unknown’ players.
Yeboah pointed out that among those labelled as ‘unknown’ was Mohammed Kudus, who is now a member of the Black Stars.
Additionally, the former spokesperson for the Normalization Committee revealed that the government initially opposed Appiah’s dismissal; however, Okraku remained firm in his decision to terminate the coach’s contract.
“When Kurt Okraku took over from the Normalization Committee, Kwasi Appiah had won two games on the trot, including beating South Africa in Cape Coast.
“That was the match where Kudus and others made their debut.
According to Kwasi Appiah, Kurt Okraku had called him and warned him that he would be sacked if he lost because he was using unknown players.
Kwasi Appiah won the game but still got sacked. At some point, the president wanted Kwasi Appiah to stay, but Kurt insisted on sacking him,” he said.
Kwasi Appiah’s contract expired in January 2020, and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) chose not to renew it.
Dan Kwaku Yeboah’s comments aimed to underscore what he views as poor management by Kurt Okraku, who took over the presidency of theGFAfrom the Normalization Committee.
Since Okraku’s leadership began, the Black Stars have faced a troubling decline, failing to secure a victory in two consecutive Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments and experiencing early exits in both competitions.
Currently, the Black Stars are in jeopardy of missing qualification for the next AFCON, a situation they have not encountered since 2004. In the ongoing qualifiers, the team has yet to win any of their four matches, recording two losses and two draws.
Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, announced that Ghana is set to introduce its inaugural local music streaming platform in November.
While speaking to key players in the creative arts industry, Dr. Bawumia underscored the importance of developing a local solution that would enable Ghanaian artists to earn fairer financial compensation for their efforts.
“Spotify and other platforms are externally owned, so it’s not surprising that the payments to our musicians are very little,” he said, stressing that current platforms don’t provide substantial returns for artists in Ghana.
“The issue for us has been to ensure we have a local streaming platform where we can put all the catalogues from A to Z that we can find in Ghana.”
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the collaborative effort between MUSIGA, the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), music producers, and the private sector to make this platform a reality.
He explained that the platform is designed to help manage revenue, track royalties, and maximise opportunities for content creators.
“I’m very happy to let you know that the work has been completed,”Dr. Bawumia shared with enthusiasm.
“We are ready to launch the first local streaming platform for Ghanaian musicians and film producers next month, in November.”
This new platform is expected to provide a more equitable revenue model for Ghanaian creatives, allowing them to better track and collect royalties while creating opportunities for sustainable growth in the industry.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbinis set to deliver a ruling today, Thursday, October 17, on a petition seeking the removal of four Members of Parliament from their positions.
The Minority is pushing for the dismissal of Agona West MP Cynthia Morrison, Suhum MP Kojo Asante, Fomena MP Andrew Asiamah, and Amenfi Central MP Peter Kwakye Ackah.
The petition argues that they should be removed for filing to run as independent candidates in the upcoming December elections.
Despite being one of the MPs targeted in the petition, Peter Kwakye Ackah has expressed confidence, stating that he is not concerned about the outcome of the Speaker’s ruling.
“I have not declared that I have left the party. I am only declaring my intention that in the next parliament, I would want to be an independent candidate. And so if somebody is also an NPP or NDC now, and he wants to go independent, he is not saying that he is leaving NPP.
“He is saying that in the next parliament, he doesn’t want to go withNPP again. I believe that is how I understand it.
“If you take any action, there should be a reaction. So you must be ready for it. Because if you say you are going independent and the Speaker rules that your seat is vacant, what can you do? You cannot challenge them because they have been imprisoned already.”
Nana Barima Ababio, also known as BenLord Ababio, and his associate Nana Kofi Amo Kwakye, both of whom claim traditional titles, appeared in the Accra High Court over charges related to a fatal land dispute that led to the death of Lance Corporal Michael Danso.
The pair face conspiracy charges, with BenLord Ababio additionally charged with murder.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the accusations in front of Justice Lydia Osei-Marfo, a Court of Appeal judge temporarily presiding over the High Court.
The court denied bail to Nana Barima Ababio, citing the seriousness of the charges, the weight of the evidence, and concerns for both public safety and his own security.
Meanwhile, Kwakye, who had previously been granted bail by the Amasaman High Court in July 2024, was again granted bail, but with stricter conditions.
Kwakye’s bail was set at GHC 1 million, with two sureties required to provide property documents matching or exceeding that value.
The court specified that these documents must be fully registered with the Land Commission and verified by the court’s registrar.
Additionally, Kwakye was required to surrender his passport, and his sureties had to present their Ghana Cards as identification. He must also report to the CID Operations Director every Friday.
The case has been adjourned to October 30, 2024, with the prosecution ordered to file their final disclosures before that date.
The case stems from an incident on April 30, 2024, when Lance Corporal Danso and two colleagues, Lance Corporals Abdul Omar Rahman and Ametus Matthew, went to Millennium City Police Station to file a complaint about trespassers developing land belonging to Rahman.
While at the station, BenLord Ababio allegedly opened fire, killing Lance Corporal Danso instantly before being subdued and arrested by the police. Investigations later led to Kwakye’s arrest as well.
The defendants’ legal team confirmed they had received the Bill of Indictment, and the prosecution, led by Dufie Selasi, stated that all necessary disclosures had been provided.
Speaking to chiefs and party supporters in Anum Apapam, located in the Ayensuano constituency of the Eastern Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasised that the NPP’s achievements in areas like Free SHS, electricity stability, school construction, and the Agenda 111 initiative are key reasons why the people of Ayensuano will rally behind the party in the upcoming elections.
He further noted that the Ayensuano constituency is determined to retain the seat for the NPP and continue building on the progress already made.
“The people are resolute without a shred of doubt that the leader Ghana needs in this defining moment is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. They are not only committed to campaigning for him, but they will also vote overwhelmingly in his favour, and through hard work, Ida Adjoa Asiedu is heading to Parliament on the NPP’s ticket.”
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known affectionately as NAPO, believes that beyond the party’s traditional strongholds, the Ayensuano constituency will play a crucial role in securing victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections.
Speaking to chiefs and supporters during his campaign tour in Anum Apapam, Dr. Opoku Prempeh encouraged Ghanaians to carefully compare the track records of the NPP and the opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), before casting their votes on December 7.
He criticised former President John Mahama’s administration, claiming it failed to deliver any significant achievements for the country.
In contrast, he praised the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government for laying a solid foundation for Ghana’s transformation over the past seven and a half years, highlighting the NPP’s success in implementing impactful social intervention policies like Free SHS, the Capitation Grant, and the School Feeding Programme.
Also in attendance at the event was Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, who urged the community to give their full support to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Ida Adwoa Asiedu.
Institute for Energy Security (IES)has cautioned that the government may soon be forced to import additional power to compensate for the shortfall in local energy production.
This comes after Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Limited announced the closure of its 560 MW power plant due to the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) failure to settle outstanding payments.
According to the IES, Ghana has already been importing electricity for the past four weeks, even prior to the plant’s shutdown.
Speaking to Citi News, IES Executive Director Nana Amoasi VII stressed the urgent need for sustainable solutions to ensure a stable energy supply in the country.
“Over the last four weeks, we have been importing power, particularly from Cote d’Ivoire. We were importing power at the time that Sunon Asogli was generating, and daily, they do more than 400 megawatts.
Just that we have not realised the impact or seen the impact of the shutdown because of the weather.
“But now that we are getting out of the wet weather, the impact may be felt in the coming days.
You will remember that last year around December 4th, they [Sunon Asogli] shutdown for the first time and the ministry intervened swiftly, but this time around they are choosing to start with an importation [of power] and probably go to the deck and meet Sunon Asogli.
“But I think we must start from somewhere, but I don’t believe in two, three months,ECG can address their problems. It requires more of an investment into their operation, more competence as well, and less political interference to address some of these issues.”
President Nana Akufo-Addohas thrown down the gauntlet, urging former President John Mahama to face Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a public debate ahead of the December elections.
This follows repeated calls from Dr. Bawumia and other members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer to engage in a debate.
However, the NDC has consistently declined, making it clear that Mahama has no intention of debating Bawumia.
Speaking to chiefs in Tamale on Wednesday, October 16, President Akufo-Addo pressed Mahama to stop avoiding a direct engagement with the Vice President.
He emphasised that such a debate would allow for an open discussion of key issues and serve the democratic process.
The President further challenged Mahama to clarify his stance on critical matters by accepting the debate invitation.
President Akufo-Addo noted that “We need somebody who’s reliable, whose work can be trusted, who is consistent, and who is clear-minded, and that is why some of us are saying, in fact, the majority of us in Ghana are saying, we want him and Bawumia to debate the issues in our country.
“Why is John Mahama running away from the debate? Says he’s ready any day for the debate. Why is Mahama running away from the debate?
“The people of Ghana deserve the debate so they can see who is doing what, saying what, and representing what. Mister Mahama, which is which?
What should the Ghanaian people take from you as your position on the free senior high school? Is it safe with you? Are you going to continue it or are you going to review it?
“Are you going to cancel it? None of those do we know from you.Nobody shouldbe allowed to be president who cannot answer these questions straightforwardly. Yes or no?”
Liam Payne, the 31-year-old former member of One Direction, has tragically passed away in Buenos Aires, Argentina, following a fall from the third floor of a hotel, according to police reports.
Authorities stated that they found Payne’s body after responding to an emergency call in the affluent neighbourhood of Palermo.
Payne gained worldwide recognition as part of the beloved boy band formed on the X Factor in 2010, alongside fellow members Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik.

Police in Buenos Aires reported that officers were initially dispatched to the hotel following complaints about an “aggressive man” who appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Upon their arrival, authorities learnt that a loud noise had been heard in an interior courtyard. Shortly thereafter, they found the body.
An investigation into the incident has been initiated.

Crescenti refrained from commenting on the specifics surrounding Payne’s fall from the balcony.
The UK Foreign Office confirmed it was in touch with authorities in Argentina “regarding reporters of the death of a British man”. No further details were given.
Payne appeared to post on Snapchat just hoursbefore the incident, saying,It’s a lovely day here in Argentina.”
Well-known American comedian and actor of Ghanaian heritage, Michael Blackson, has announced his intention to pursue legal action against the Ministry of Finance due to the mismanagement of his Eurobond investment.
He explained that he initially made the investment with the hopes of using the returns to support his school project.
However, due to the current situation, he is now seeking alternative funding sources for the school.
Since his investment has become inaccessible, Blackson has been vocal about his frustration on social media.
On October 14, 2024, he took to his platforms once more to express his discontent and inform his followers about the impending legal steps he plans to take.
He stated, “I’m seeking legal actions against the finance ministry of Ghana.
I have a free school I’m financing on my own, and they took away the potential earnings I was going to use to fund the school. Now I have to figure something else out for those poor kids.”
I’m seeking legal actions against the finance ministry of Ghana 🇬🇭. I have a free school I’m financing on my own and they took away the potential earnings I was going to use to fund the school. Now I have to figure something else out for those poor kids.
Previously, Blackson revealed that he acquired Eurobonds to fund his school, the Michael Blackson Academy, located in Agona Nsaba. However, he has encountered difficulties in recovering his investment.
He explained that his decision to invest in Eurobonds stemmed from the belief that it would provide financial support for the sustainability of the free school he established.
However, he said, “Ghana decided to use our money to pay their debt to China or whoever and leave us hanging.”

Reggae musician and media personality Blakk Rastahas strongly criticised Archbishop Salifu Amoako following comments made in a resurfaced viral video.
In the video, Archbishop Salifu Amoako is seen bragging about driving without a license or number plate, confidently stating that no police officer would dare arrest him for fear of losing their job.
He even suggested he had the power to have officers dismissed if they attempted to apprehend him.
These controversial statements have resurfaced in the wake of recent allegations involving the Archbishop’s son, who is said to have been involved in a fatal car accident that claimed two lives.
Blakk Rasta has spoken out strongly against the Archbishop’s comments. “Salifu Amoako doesn’t have any education. He doesn’t have a classmate. He has never sat in a classroom.
Even if you’ve not had any formal education there’s bible wisdom that I expect every man of God to have – Blakk Rasta to Salifu Amoako #UrbanBlend#3FM927
He learnt everything on the street,” he said. He added, “But there’s natural wisdom outside formal education. I expected that a man of God would have that.”
Blakk Rasta also criticised the notion of being “above the law,” arguing, “If you claim that no policeman can stop you from breaking the law, it doesn’t make you a Superman.
It only means you live in a lawless country and that you are lawless yourself. If I were part of that congregation, I would walk out.”
Furthermore, Blakk Rastacondemned certain teachings by some religious leaders, which, according to him, promote the idea that wealth can be achieved solely through prayer, without hard work.
He stated, “These are the people who preach that God will make you rich without working. Just get up and pray. What prayer can do for you, work can never do for you.”
Following the recent disappointment from the Black Stars’ loss in theirAfrica Cup of Nations (AFCON)qualifying match against Sudan, emotions are running high among fans and Ghanaian celebrities alike.
Popular gospel artist Sonnie Badu, in a heartfelt message addressed to the Ghana Football Association, urged them to consider a significant change that could be a “spiritual” turning point for the team.
His post called on the GFA to swallow its pride and bring back Kwesi Appiah, former coach of the Black Stars now coach of Sudan.
In a reaction post on Instagram, he said, “Dear @ghana_fa_official, I can tell you for free that this was a painful win for my friend. Let’s swallow our pride and bring him back! This is more spiritual than physical, and if you think football isn’t spiritual, just hear me out—anything controlled by the wind definitely has mysteries.
The Black Stars’ hopes of qualifying for AFCON 2025 have been severely damaged after a 2-0 defeat to Sudan.
Ghana now sits third in their group with two points, and their chances of qualifying are slim, with only two matches left to play. Another loss could end their journey to the tournament in Morocco.
Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, is facing a defamation lawsuit worth GH¢5 million filed by actress Martha Ankomah, according to reports from Accra’s High Court.
Efforts to resolve the matter outside of court have been unsuccessful, leading the plaintiff’s legal team to push for the case to continue in court. Discussions around a possible settlement were held in July, which resulted in a temporary adjournment.
However, during a court session on October 15, 2024, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Nii Apatu Plange, explained,
, “We presented our proposals to the intermediary, but he later informed us that the defendant does not seem interested in reaching a settlement. Therefore, I can confirm that settlement efforts have failed.”
Justice Forson Agyapong Baah adjourned the case to 5 November 2024, noting, “In the circumstances, the case is adjourned to 5 November 2024, for hearing to begin at 8:30 a.m. Let hearing notices, along with today’s notes, be issued and served on the defendant.”
The plaintiff, Martha Ankomah, appeared in court, while the defendant, LilWin, and his legal team were notably absent.
The lawsuit arises from a viral video in which LilWin allegedly made derogatory remarks about Ankomah, damaging her reputation within the film industry. Ankomah asserts that his comments, including claims that she refused to collaborate with Kumawood actors, are defamatory.
In her statement, Ankomah describes herselfas “a respected actress with over 20 years of experience, having starred in numerous film productions across both Ghana and Nigeria.”
She demands:
a) GH¢5 million in damages for the defamatory statements
b) Compensatory damages for harm done to her reputation
c) Aggravated damages for reckless publication
d) A public apology and retraction from LilWin
e) An injunction against future defamatory remarks
Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana, widely known asFalztheBahdGuy, recently opened up about his experience with ‘threesomes.’
A threesome refers to a sexual encounter involving three people, which can be between two men and a woman or two women and a man.
Reflecting on his own experience, Falz revealed that he had tried it twice but decided not to continue after his second attempt.
He shared, “What might be interesting to note is that I have only tried it twice, and neither experience went well. The last time was around two years ago.”
Falz mentioned that he sought expert advice to understand why his attempts at threesomes didn’t go as expected and received a rather intriguing response.
“After that second time, I was like, I gave up. I spoke to some professionals about my experience, and they said that the problem is that you are planning it. They said just let ithappen.”
Dr. Oteng had previously voiced his frustration regarding Afrifa’s outspoken style and confrontational stance, particularly in his critiques of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
He mentioned receiving numerous complaints from individuals distressed by Afrifa’s comments, which has caused him some concern.
In his reply, Afrifa emphasised that his primary focus is addressing national issues rather than catering to personal interests.
He acknowledged the importance of his boss’s guidance but reaffirmed his accountability to the public.
“I respect Kweku Oteng because he can be my father, and when he advises me, I will listen to his advice. I am the one who told him to prompt me when I am going overboard. But I want to ask, is it right to listen to Kweku Oteng over the cries of Ghanaians?” he questioned.
Okatakyie added that he is not a timid journalist and will reveal the secrets of any politician who attacks Dr. Kweku Oteng henceforth.
“Most journalists working for Angel FM are timid because of the attacks they receive from these politicians; when did all this start?
“From now onwards, any politicians who attack Kweku Oteng, I will personally reveal your secrets because I am not a timid person,” he said.
Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensahhas been an outspoken critic of illegal mining, which has emerged as a significant national concern lately.
On his show at Angel FM, he has regularly condemned the participation of politicians, religious leaders, and traditional authorities in these unlawful practices.
Following Ghana’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, a confrontation occurred between Black Stars players Jordan Ayew and Lawrence Ati-Zigi.
In a video shared on X, the two players were seen engaged in a heated argument, prompting teammates to intervene and separate them.
The incident took place immediately after the final whistle as the team gathered for their last moments on the pitch before heading to the dressing room.
With this defeat at the Martyrs of February Stadium, Ghana now faces significant challenges in their quest to qualify for Africa’s premier tournament in 2025.
The team has managed to secure only two points from four matches, leaving them in third place in their group.
To keep their hopes alive, the Black Stars must win their remaining two qualifying games while also relying on Sudan to lose their upcoming matches.
If they fail, it would mark the first time in 20 years that Ghana does not qualifyfor the AFCON.
Nollywood star Bimbo Akintola has shared insights into her choice to remain single, revealing that she has not pursued a new romantic relationship since her true love passed away.
At 54 years old, Akintola expressed in a recent interview that the memory of her lost partner continues to shape her perspective on love and relationships.
“Are you married? “No”, she said when Ehumadu asked about her marital status.
Quizzed on the reason she is yet to be married, the actress stated: “He died. I don’t talk about it, but he died. Do you know how long it took me to find him? It was a very long time, but he is gone.
“I don’t believe that you get married for marriage’s sake. If you are not going to be truthful to your vows, then why are you doing it? The person wey me fit do forever for don die. He’s gone. I am not saying that you can’t have two or three loves in your lifetime, but do you know how long it took me to find that one that I knew I could stay with?”
She added: “I am also too old to understand red flags when I see them, and I think I am too old to manage and say I am doing something just to make other people happy. Who are those people? To make the world happy, I should marry someone so that the world can say you don do am.
“It doesn’t make sense, I don’t care, I really don’t care. No, I won’t do that for anybody. I am always truthful to myself because at the end of the day, if someone dies, when you stand in front of God, na you and God, one on one you go answer the question, nobody go answer the question for you. So, I am living my life in all truthfulness, being truthful to myself.”
The actress also disclosed that she believes in marriage; however, the man she wants to do it with is late.
“I do, but the person I did it with is dead; he is gone. I have not seen anybody else, and before I saw him I thought it would never happen. I have dated, but I have never seen myself marrying those people. I didn’t see forever with those people.”
However, Bimbo Akintolaacknowledged that if she finds a man that she can spend the rest of her life with, she is going to remarry, irrespective of her age.
“If I ever see someone and I see forever with that person, I will do it even if I am 82; I will do it, but I won’t do it if I don’t see that person.
“I am not able to just stress myself out for anything. Do you know how difficult marriage is? It is difficult; it is very difficult, you will now go on and do it with someone you know you can’t do forever with.”
Diddy broke his silence on social media by returning to Instagram to celebrate his daughter Love Sean Combs’ second birthday.
The post featured a slideshow of delightful photos, including moments from a cake-eating session and playful times spent with her father by the ocean.
This heartfelt tribute highlights Diddy’s joy and love for his daughter on her special day.
“Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday, baby Love! Happy Birthday to you!! Happy Birthday, @loveseancombs daddy loves you,” he captioned the post.
The comments section on Diddy’s Instagram post has been disabled, raising questions about how the post was made while he is currently incarcerated.
Billboard has reached out to Diddy’s representatives for clarification regarding the situation.
Diddy and Dana Tran welcomed Love Combs in October 2022 — the youngest of his seven children. He also wished their daughter a happy 1st birthday last year on social media. “Happy Birthday, Baby Love! @loveseancombs, I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART! Love DaDa,” he wrote to Instagram, per Vibe.
Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested in New York on Sept. 16 on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges. Diddy pleaded not guilty, and his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, has maintained his client’s innocence.
Last week, Diddy’s legal representatives filed a motion in court requesting an investigation into the potential leak of case evidence to the media by federal authorities.
This includes the surveillance footage showing Combs physically assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassie, at a Los Angeles hotel back in 2016.
The troubled Bad Boy mogul has faced repeated denials of bond and is set to remain incarcerated until his trial, which is scheduled to commence in May 2025.
His apology comes in the wake of Ghana’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Sudan during the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Following a goalless draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Black Stars faced a setback against Sudan at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
Reflecting on the team’s lackluster performance, Agyemang-Badu, who was part of Ghana’s U-20 World Cup-winning squad and participated in the 2024 FIFA World Cup, expressed regret for his earlier endorsement of Otto Addo’s leadership.
“And I apologise. Those who advocated the second coming of coach Otto Addo, if you go into my interviews, I gave him massive support but I’m sorry,” he told Onua FM. “It seems the task is beyond him,” he added.
Otto Addo was reappointed as head coach in March under a 34-month contract, which includes an option for an additional 24 months.
He took over the role from Chris Hughton after the Black Stars were eliminated early from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Since Addo’s return, the team has recorded only two victories.
TheBlack Stars are looking to regroup in November for the final qualifiers, where they will compete against Niger and Angola.
This upcoming series presents a crucial opportunity for the team to improve their standing in the qualifiers and secure a place in the tournament.
Members of the Senior Staff Association of theVolta River Authority (VRA)have voiced their dissatisfaction with the government’s lack of response regarding their opposition to the proposed merger with the Bui Power Authority.
This frustration comes after a closed-door meeting on October 3, where VRA senior staff met with the Minister of State for Energy, Herbert Krapah.
During this meeting, the government allegedly indicated it would retract the merger bill from Parliament.
In an interview with Citi News, Applause Ebenezer Sedziafa, the Divisional Secretary for the VRA branch of the Public Sector Workers Union, expressed disappointment over the situation but confirmed that the VRA would persist in advocating for its demands.
“We are still waiting for the Minister to issue a statement.
We are concerned given the assurance we received. We haven’t decided on the next steps yet but are considering our options carefully.
“We don’t want to act prematurely. We’re taking thingsstep by step, and we remain in control. Our demands stand. Staff members are still wearing red bands, and we are ready, waiting for the Minister’s response,” he said.
Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, has shown little concern regarding the petition from the Minority caucus that aims to declare his parliamentary seat vacant.
Kwakye-Ackah, who plans to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections as an independent candidate, attributed his decision to what he perceives as unfair treatment from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A significant reason for his departure from the party was the NDC’s endorsement of his opponent as their candidate for Amenfi Central.
In a conversation with Citi News on October 15, 2024, Kwakye-Ackah clarified his stance on the ongoing issue regarding his seat, emphasizing that he is focused on his independent candidacy and does not feel threatened by the petition.
“The announcement went out that I had given my support to the person who forged documents, and because of that, the court injuncted it [the parliamentary primary], and the person was declared unopposed. I felt that no, that is not fair.
Sometimes they should treat people fairly.
“If you say you are going to rerun, give everybody a fair chance, and if the person loses fairly, he will understand. Why should you open the nomination and just take my money?
Just keep my GH¢45,000, which is no small money, so I have decided that if the people want me,I will go independent.”
Sir Alex Fergusonis poised to conclude his ambassadorial duties at Manchester United by the end of the current season, according to a source speaking to ESPN.
This move is part of the club’s broader cost-cutting measures initiated after Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake in February.
The decision comes on the heels of the club’s announcement of layoffs affecting 250 staff members, aimed at saving approximately £45 million (around $58.8 million).
Ferguson has held the position of club ambassador since 2013, following his retirement as manager after an impressive tenure of over 25 years.
During his managerial career from 1986 to 2013, Sir Alex Ferguson led Manchester United to an impressive 13 English league titles.
He also claimed the Champions League trophy twice, in 1999 and 2008, and added nine domestic cup victories to his accolades. Ferguson remains the last manager to secure a Premier League title for United.
Since retiring, he has frequently visited Old Trafford and has held a position on the club’s ceremonial football board.
As he approaches his 83rd birthday in December, sources indicate that Ferguson will gradually reduce his involvement in various roles over the next year, including some not directly related toManchester United.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addohas raised concerns about the capability of former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, to effectively govern Ghana if re-elected.
Akufo-Addo warned that a Mahama presidency might threaten critical national policies, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.
Addressing the chiefs and residents of the North-East Region, he cautioned that voting for Mahama in the upcoming December 7 elections could result in the discontinuation of initiatives like Free SHS, which has provided educational opportunities for thousands of Ghanaian students.
Akufo-Addo referenced recent statements by Mahama, which he believes suggest the NDC candidate might cancel or undermine the Free SHS policy.
He urged Mahama to clarify his position on the matter, stressing that the people of Ghana deserve transparency on his plans for the program.
“Let’s ask him [Mahama], which is which? What should the Ghanaian people take as your real position? Because this chopping and changing, chopping and changing, is a very difficult thing for some of us to understand.
“What should we believe? Are you going to change it? Are you going to cancel it? Are you going to improve it? Because every time you open your mouth, you say a different thing.
“I don’t think a man who talks like that, who wants the supreme office of our country, is somebody who can be trusted.”
Gospel singer Grace Osei, formerly known as Irene Logan, has found a new source of joy and fulfilment following her marriage to Prince Osei earlier this year.
The couple exchanged vows on April 19, 2024, at The Lord’s Garden Ministries, La Trade Fair, Accra, in what Grace describes as the best decision of her life.
Reflecting on her new chapter, Grace shared in an exclusive interview on October 7 that marriage has been a transformative experience, giving her a renewed sense of purpose.
“Getting married has been such a blessing. God blessed me with a very supportive husband who invests in me emotionally, financially, and spiritually,” she expressed.
“Having a partner who is on your side makes everything easier. I feel protected and loved, and I’m able to create in a more relaxed headspace.”
Since her marriage, Grace Osei has wholeheartedly embraced her roles as both a devoted wife and a gospel minister. Formerly known for her work in secular music, she has now fully transitioned into gospel ministry.
Grace revealed that this shift was a natural evolution of her life’s mission, rooted in her deep desire to share the gospel message.
The transition has not only fulfilled her spiritually but also allowed her to dedicate herself completely to her calling in ministry, a path she had long aspired to follow.
“It wasn’t difficult for me at all. I’ve always felt the call to share God’s word, so stepping fully into gospel was like coming home,” she noted.
The singer also highlighted the importance of balancing her thriving music career with her personal life.
According to her, clear communication and mutual respect have been key factors in maintaining harmony.
“Love and career are not difficult to balance at all. Once you understand your role in both, everything falls into place,” Grace said, adding that she and her husband often minister together, combining their talents to spread the message of Christ.
As a couple deeply rooted in their faith, Grace and Prince Osei rely on good communication, patience, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to navigate their journey.
“Christ is our foundation,” she emphasised, noting that her husband’s role as a teacher of the word of God complements her ministry as a gospel singer.
Looking ahead, Grace Osei remains committed to using her platform to inspire others and share the gospel, confident that her marriage will continue to serve as a strong anchor for both her personal and spiritual growth.
The two victims who died in last Saturday’s East Legon accident have been identified as 12-year-old girls, the police have confirmed.
The vehicle they were in, with three other people, a Honda Acura with registration number GR 2542–23 was hit from behind and trapped them inside.
It was a white Jaguar vehicle with registration GN 7801 – 20, being driven by a 16-year-old son of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako of the Alive Chapel International, that rammed into their vehicle from behind.
The Honda Acura vehicle that the two 12-year-olds were in was being driven by Joseph Ackah with two other occupants.
The driver Joseph Ackah and the two others survived the accident, but the two girls were burnt beyond recognition.
This was because the impact of the accident forced the vehicles to hit a wooden electric pole, which caused the wires to drop on the vehicle and sparked a fire.
Cornerstone International Academy, the school the girls were attending, has announced an early midterm break following the horrific accident.
In a letter to parents, the school expressed its condolences to the affected families and announced that it would close early for the midterm break from Tuesday, October 15 to Friday, October 18, 2024.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the affected families, We wish those hospitalized a speedy recovery” the school’s letter read.
Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako of Alive Chapel International and the mother of his son, Mouha Amoako were on Tuesday arrested by the police for their son’s involvement in the East Legon accident.
Their son, a 16-year-old, who was driving the white Jaguar, rammed the Honda Acura at East Legon and killed the two girls on the spot.
The government is set to introduce a new Legislative Instrument (LI) in Parliament that will revoke earlier regulations permitting mining activities in forest reserves.
Known as the Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) Revocation Instrument, 2024, this new LI seeks to annul LI 2462, signalling a more robust approach to environmental conservation.
This decision was announced by the Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, during an October 15 parliamentary session.
He revealed that the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation developed the instrument with support from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney-General’s Department.
The initiative is a cornerstone of the government’s broader efforts to curb illegal mining, or “galamsey,” which has severely damaged Ghana’s forests, water bodies, and farmlands.
Over the last decade, illegal mining has led to deforestation, pollution, and the destruction of vital ecosystems, posing serious threats to local communities’ livelihoods.
This new regulation underscores the government’s determination to address environmental degradation and protect natural resources.
Mr Afenyo-Markin emphasised government’s determination to stop the destructive practice, saying, “This revocation is a clear demonstration of our commitment to addressing the illegal mining menace that has wreaked havoc on our environment.”
He further noted that this move would limit mining activities in the forest reserves, ensuring that only environmentally sustainable practices are permitted in line with Ghana’s long-term ecological goals.
While the new LI seeks to significantly restrict mining in forest reserves, its success will largely depend on its enforcement.
In recent years, despite various legislative attempts to curb galamsey, illegal mining has persisted, often due to weak enforcement, corruption, and the deep entrenchment of mining in local economies.
Recognising this, Mr. Afenyo-Markin called on Ghanaians to unite in support of the fight against galamsey and refrain from politicising the issue.
Akim Abuakwa South MPSamuel Atta Akyeahas pushed back against the notion that lawmakers should be compelled to resign from Parliament simply because they express intentions to pursue different political paths in the future.
During a discussion on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, October 16, he highlighted the importance of allowing MPs the freedom to consider future political ambitions without facing immediate consequences.
He emphasised that parliamentarians should not be treated as “robots” who are locked into their current roles without the flexibility to explore other options.
His remarks were in response to ongoing conversations in Parliament about MPs who have expressed plans to run as independent candidates in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
As a lawyer, Atta Akyea argued that such declarations do not amount to changing political allegiance and therefore, should not affect the MPs’ current standing.
He advocated for a more lenient approach, allowing MPs to voice their political ambitions without being penalised or forced to vacate their seats.
“The issue here is that these MPs are addressing their future intentions. They’ve not said that as of now they want to abandon where they are for any other direction,” Atta Akyea explained, referencing the Second Deputy Speaker’s announcement of future plans.
“Should it affect my current status if I declare my intentions for the future? I’ve not said now I’m crossing to another party.”
For Atta Akyea, it is important to make a clear distinction between present commitments and future aspirations.
“What we are saying now is that they are not crossing the carpet yet.
They are not saying that in this Parliament, they were sponsored by the NPP or came in as independents and now want to go to another party or stand as independents.”
He firmly rejected the idea that expressing future political ambitions should result in immediate repercussions, such as forcing MPs to relinquish their seats.
He compared this stance to treating MPs as if they were incapable of independent thought, arguing that such rigid consequences undermine their autonomy and ability to navigate evolving political landscapes.
“If not, then we are reducing the members of Parliament to robots. They can’t think, they can’t change their minds,” he warned.
Atta Akyea also pointed out that intentions can change, and it is unreasonable to pre-emptively judge MPs based on a future possibility. “What if what they want to do, they change their minds about?
Is Parliament going to declare on the thinking and feelings of MPs? That’s the problem I have,” he said, emphasising the need for flexibility in politics and decision-making.
This viewpoint underscores a broader issue surrounding parliamentary independence and the right to free expression.
Atta Akyea’s stance calls for a more flexible interpretation of parliamentary rules, arguing that lawmakers should have the liberty to express their future aspirations or consider alternative political directions without being subjected to harsh repercussions.
His argument promotes the idea that MPs should not be confined by rigid expectations but rather allowed the space to evolve their political thinking without immediate sanctions.
Miracle Films CEO Samuel Nyamekye has dismissed reports alleging that actressEmelia Brobbeystole in the UK eleven years ago.
In response to the resurfaced news about Emelia’s arrest in 2013, he stated that she did not steal the bracelet found in a baby trolley that day, calling the claims untrue.
Recently, concerns have emerged regarding Emelia’s past ordeal in the UK, with some individuals claiming she mistreated a friend who was innocently roped in the incident.
The theft case reportedly led to the wrongful arrest and deportation of Emelia’s innocent friend, Akua Agyeiwaa, who was jailed and sent back to Ghana.
Recently, family members and friends of Akua, still pained by the situation, took to social media to express their feelings of betrayal, alleging that Emelia abandoned her during her arrest.
But amidst the backlash, Samuel Nyamekye has come to Emelia’s defence, stating, “All the rumours circulating about Emelia Brobbey aren’t true.
This issue was brought to my attention long before it went viral.”
Akua’s family, while expressing their sentiments recently, recalled that during Emelia’s arrest in the UK, she provided the police with the address of her friend Akua, who she lived with at the time.
They said during a search of the residence, the police discovered that Akua did not have the proper documentation to remain in the UK, leading to her arrest and deportation.
But Samuel Nyamekye, who remains steadfast in defending Emelia Brobbey’s innocence against all the claims being made, stated,
“Emelia wasn’t even living with Akua when she went to London. She lived with Gloria. But because they were all friends, Akua usually passed by their end once in a while after work.
“It’s because Emelia was friends with Akua, and that’s why the incident rubbed off her,” he stated.
Regarding claims thatEmelia’s “baby daddy” provided her with funds to compensate Akua, the Miracle Films CEO stated, “That’s not true. Her husband gave her the money, not her baby daddy.”

Ghana’s crucial second-leg encounter against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers will take place today in Libya, but without spectators.
The Black Stars will face Sudan at the Martyrs of February Stadium, with the match set to kick off at 13:00 GMT.
This follows a goalless draw in the first leg, which was held last Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
CAF has informed both teams that the game will be played behind closed doors, although the reason for this decision has not been disclosed.
Ghana is in urgent need of a victory to keep their AFCON qualification hopes alive after failing to win any of their last three matches.
They started their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Angola, followed by a 1-1 draw against Niger, leaving them third in the group with just two points.
Sudan, on the other hand, has accumulated four points from a win, a draw, and a loss, placing them second in the group.
Both teams will be looking to secure crucial points in today’s match to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco next year.
Confederation of African Football (CAF) has responded to the treatment of Nigerian players at Al-Abaq airport in Libya as they arrived for their qualifier match for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 14, 2024, CAF announced that it has launched an investigation into the matter.
The organization emphasized its commitment to upholding standards and regulations within African football, assuring that appropriate penalties will be imposed on any individuals or entities found to have breached their rules.
“The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after it had been informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘Super Eagles’) and their technical team were stranded in disturbing conditions for several hours at an airport that they were allegedly instructed to land by the Libyan authorities.
“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation, and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated the CAF Statutes and Regulations.”
The Super Eagles of Nigeria faced significant delays at Al-Abaq Airport, where they were kept waiting for over 13 hours after their arrival.
Reports indicate that their chartered flight, initially bound for Benghazi, was unexpectedly rerouted to another location while still in the air.
The treatment of the Super Eagles and their officials has sparked controversy, especially in light of Libya’s previous complaints about their treatment during their visit to Nigeria for the first leg of the match.
In response to the situation, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reached out to CAF, expressing their intention to boycott the upcoming game. The team has since returned to Nigeria from Libya.

Professional in Occupational Safety and Healthhas called for accountability from the contractor responsible for the recent explosion in Buduburam that resulted in three fatalities and over 30 injuries.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday, October 14, 2024, during a controlled rock blast related to the ongoing road expansion project on the Kasoa-Buduburam route.
In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, Mr. Antwi raised serious concerns about the contractor’s apparent neglect of essential safety measures, which he believes could have averted the catastrophe.
He emphasised the need for stricter adherence to safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“The contractor should be held responsible,” he said.
He stressed the necessity of complying with Section 175 of the Mineral Commission’s LI 2177, which outlines the essential procedures required prior to initiating any blasting activities.
His comments highlight the increasing public frustration surrounding the unfortunate incident, leading to widespread demands for accountability and a stricter enforcement of safety standards in both construction and blasting operations.
The tragic event has intensified calls for a review of safety protocols to ensure that such accidents do not occur in the future.
“So if the blast has been done and investigations commence and it establishes that none of this information is found after the incident then they should be held responsible for their actions and inactions that took place,” he stated.
Ghana’s national football coach, Otto Addo, expressed strong confidence in his team’s ability to overcome Sudan in their upcoming match for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
This clash is set to take place on Tuesday, October 15.
The previous encounter between the two sides ended in a goalless draw last Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana. Ahead of this rematch, Coach Addo emphasized that he felt the Black Stars should have secured a win in that first game.
With that in mind, he is now focused on achieving a positive result in the second meeting against Sudan.
“It’s part of football; sometimes you’re lucky, sometimes you’re unlucky. It belongs to the game, but the probability is very high that you can’t be there three times in a row.
“I’m sure that, like I said, if we show the same attitude towards this game, the same beliefs, we have to be mentally strong, then I’m very sure we will win this game. The last game gives me really big confidence that we can do it,” coach Otto Addo said.
The Black Stars will take on Sudan in Libya on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, with the match set to kick off at 13:00 GMT.
As pressure mounts, all eyes will be on Addo’s men to secure the much-needed three points and keep theirAFCON dream alive.
Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing fresh allegations of sexual misconduct, including rape and sexual abuse, following the filing of multiple lawsuits on Monday.
The lawsuits, brought forward by two women and four men, allege a range of assaults that span from 1995 to 2021.
These accusations, some of which reportedly occurred during parties hosted by Combs and attended by high-profile celebrities and musicians, add to a growing number of claims against the music mogul.
One accuser, who was 16 years old at the time, claimed that during a party in the Hamptons in 1998, he had an encounter with Mr. Combs. After being thrilled to receive an invitation to the star-studded event, the accuser said he met Combs while walking to the bathroom.
During their conversation about entering the music industry, the accuser alleged that Combs abruptly told him to undress. The lawsuit includes a photograph from the event, with the accuser’s face blurred.
Combs’ legal team has strongly denied all allegations, stating that he “has never sexually assaulted anyone” and reaffirming his innocence against the claims.
The legal battle follows previous accusations against Combs, raising significant concerns regarding his conduct at various industry-related events.
According to the lawsuit, Mr Combs said it was “a rite of passage” and “the route to becoming a star”. The rapper told the teen he could make anyone a star and the teen had the right “look”, the lawsuit states.
One of the newly filed lawsuits alleges that a woman was raped by Sean “Diddy” Combs in a hotel room in 2004 when she was a 19-year-old college student.
The lawsuit states that the woman met Combs during a photoshoot, where he subsequently invited her and a friend to a private party at his hotel. Upon arrival, she claims that despite her repeated requests for him to stop, Mr. Combs “fondled, molested, and ultimately raped her.”
The attorney representing the accusers, Tony Buzbee, has announced that he is advocating for over 100 individuals who intend to file lawsuits against Combs for sexual assault, rape, and sexual exploitation.
Buzbee indicated that among these alleged victims are children. The lawsuits are being filed under the Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act, which permits victims to pursue legal action on older claims.
“We will let the allegations in the filed complaints speak for themselves, and will work to see that justice is done,” Mr Buzbee said in a statement after filing the lawsuits Monday.
“We expect to be filing many more cases over the next several weeks naming Mr Combs and others as defendants as we continue to gather evidence and prepare the filings.”
The lawsuits are the latest of more than a dozen that have been filed against Mr Combs recently, accusing the music mogul of assaults, rape and sexual extortion.
He has denied all civil and criminal claims against him.
Mr Combs is facing federal criminal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. A judge last week tentatively scheduled his trial to begin on 5 May 2025.
Mr Combs has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York since his 16 September arrest. His lawyers have argued for his release until the trial, citing the jail’s “horrific” conditions.
A New York federal judge denied their request for bail, arguing that Mr Combs was a “serious flight risk”.
The Ghana Police have identified Salifu Amoako as the driver of the white Jaguar involved in a tragic accident last Saturday at East Legon, Accra, which led to the deaths of two individuals.
According to a police statement issued on October 14, 2024, Amoako survived the crash and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital along with other survivors. The fatal accident, which occurred on Dzanie Ashie Street on October 12, is still under investigation.
Salifu Amoako is reported to be the son of Prophet Salifu Amoako, leader of the Alive Chapel International based in Tesano, Accra. Though unconfirmed, there are claims that Amoako is a minor.
The police have not addressed this detail but have reiterated that investigations are ongoing.
One of the surviving victims has already been treated and discharged, while the bodies of the two female victims, who tragically lost their lives in the incident, have been taken to the morgue.
The crash involved seven individuals in total—four passengers in the Jaguar and three in the Honda Acura.
CCTV footage circulated on social media shows the Jaguar speeding through a crowded area before slamming into the Honda Acura from behind and hitting a wooden electric pole. The impact caused power lines to fall onto the Acura, sparking a fire.
The fire engulfed the Honda Acura, trapping the two female occupants inside. They were tragically burnt beyond recognition before emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) could arrive.
GNFS personnel, upon reaching the scene, confirmed the deaths of the two women. Meanwhile, all four occupants of the Jaguar were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The rapid spread of the flames, fuelled by the fallen electric wires, consumed both vehicles, leaving the victims with no chance of escape. Witnesses reported thick plumes of smoke filling the air as the blaze raged on, drawing a crowd of onlookers who could do little to help.
Disturbing footage of the fire, shared by the GNFS, highlights the severity of the accident and the overwhelming intensity of the flames.
Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,has officially removed Nana Adutwumwaa Bonin II from her position as the Queen of the Denyase Traditional Council in the Ashanti Region.
This decision was made during an Asanteman Council meeting on October 14, 2024. The destoolment followed accusations that Nana Adutwumwaa Bonin II had violated the sacred great oath of the Ashanti kingdom, a serious offence marked by an act of treacherous invocation.
Although the Queen pleaded for leniency during the hearing, her appeal was met with strong opposition from the majority of the council members, leading to her destoolment.
“Nana, we cannot forgive her because the great oath must be paramount in all our dealings, so violating the terms of the oath is unacceptable,” one of the chiefs said.
Goasomanhene added, “My biggest fear here is the oath that is involved, so pleading on her behalf will be difficult because the sacred oath is involved.”
“Otumfuo linguist, all the chiefs have said that they cannot work with her, so she must go,” another affirmed.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II emphasised the sanctity of the great oath and the imperative to uphold Asante customs without exception.
“In safeguarding the Golden Stool and the great oath entrusted to me, I must ensure fidelity to our traditions,” he said.
“As the elders have said that we don’t invoke the great oath in vain, when I became the Asantehene I was told I did not have a mother, a brother, or anybody, and the only thing I have is the Golden Stool and the Great Oath to protect.”
“I really like the queen…I call her my old lady, but going against the great oath, I have to go by what the tradition says. If I forgive her, then who should I punish if the person does the same? We have to tell the truth to people. She is at fault; she is a family member. If she doesn’t have the money, she can come, and I will give her money, but to violate the great oath, no, she can’t sit on the throne anymore.”
The controversy surrounding Nana Adutwumwaa Bonin II’s royal lineage came to a head after a committee was set up to investigate her royalty status after she was challenged by Achiasebaapanin Nana Akua Afriyie, who invoked the Great Oath in support of her stance.
Nana Akua Afriyie’s claim that Nana Adutwumwaa Bonin II was not a rightful royal was met with a direct counter by the Denyasehemaa, invoking theGreat Oath to challenge the accusation.
Nana Afriyie, on her part, denied having any familial ties to the Denyasehemaa, while Nana Adutwumwaa Bonin II asserted the opposite.
As a result, both parties were tasked with providing their traditional family lineages for review by the committee. Upon investigation, the committee determined that Nana Adutwumwaa Bonin II was indeed not a royal and had no direct relation to Achiase, contradicting her earlier claims.
After the committee’s findings were submitted to Otumfuo, he remarked that the Denyasehemaa could have avoided her predicament if she had refrained from invoking the counter-oath in the first place.
“Denyasehemaa could have used peace to her advantage, but she chose quite the opposite. And since the investigation has brought this to light, I have no choice but to put the stool where it truly belongs.”
Denyasehemaa was therefore fined four rams for the counter-invocation of the Great Oath in vain during the committee’s sitting.
Ghana Armed Forces (GAF)have issued a strong warning to the public, urging them to stop wearing military-style uniforms or using military gear.
In a press release, the GAF made it clear that anyone caught violating this directive will face arrest.
This warning comes in response to reports that individuals, who are not part of the military have been posing as soldiers by donning military attire while engaging in illegal mining activities at galamsey sites.
The GAF emphasised that this behaviour undermines their efforts in the fight against illegal mining.
“The attention of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has been drawn to the unauthorised and unlawful use of military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements by protesters during demonstrations, as well as by individuals providing security for some public figures.
“GAF has also noted with dismay similar illegal acts among persons operating in illegal mining areas (galamsey sites) and some political activists.
“Despite ongoing education and warnings, this concerning trend appears to be increasing.
During recent demonstrations in Accra and Kumasi, it was observed that some protesters and individuals claiming to provide private security to dignitaries were dressed in military-pattern camouflage uniforms and other military-style gear.
“Similar instances were noted during anti-galamsey operations conducted by GAF. Such actions risk creating the false impression that these individuals are part of GAF, thereby tarnishing the reputation of the Armed Forces.
It is essential to highlight that these unauthorised acts contravene the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967, which remains in effect. This decree explicitly states,” part of the statement said.
The statement continued, “No person shall wear or use any military uniforms, equipment, accoutrements, or other material unless he or she is a member of the Armed Forces of Ghana.
The misuse of military uniforms presents a serious risk, as it can enable criminals to impersonate soldiers, leading to significant public safety concerns. As a result, theGhana Armed Forces (GAF) will now take firm measures, including the arrest and prosecution of individuals who breach these regulations.
GAF is also calling on the public to report any suspicious use of unauthorised military gear, emphasising that this is crucial to safeguarding the country.
With the 2024 elections approaching, GAF stressed that the cooperation of citizens is vital in ensuring peace and maintaining security across the nation. The military remains committed to protecting the public and preserving Ghana’s territorial integrity.
