In an interview with Hitz FM on October 8, 2024, Asiedu disclosed that her physical features, especially her bust, piqued her husband’s interest long before they actually met.

Reflecting on their love story, she explained that he first became aware of her in the movie “Asore Ba,” which marked her breakout role in the industry.

Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, is expected to depart the club at the conclusion of the current season, according to sources from ESPN.

Since joining the Etihad Stadium in 2012, Begiristain has been integral to the club’s achievements.

Guardiola, who previously managed Barcelona from 2008 to 2012, is under contract until the season’s end and has yet to disclose his future plans.

Reports indicate that Begiristain will be involved in selecting his successor for the director of football position.

The new hire could start as soon as January 2025 and work alongside Begiristain during the latter part of the season to prepare for the upcoming transfer window.

‘Blessings’ after divorce?: Check out 5 major accomplishments of Fella Makafui after break up

Fella Makafui appears to have embraced the popular notion that success is the best form of post-breakup revenge after her split from Medikal.

She has not only focused on rebuilding her life but has also achieved remarkable milestones in quick succession, radiating happiness along the way.

Reflecting on her recent journey, Fella shared, “I’ve finally accomplished things that have always been dear to my heart.”

Her progress has been evident, as she transformed from merely being known as an actress and former wife to becoming a dynamic businesswoman, successfully reviving ventures that had previously stalled.

Fans have been amazed by how many of her long-held ideas have finally come to fruition, with some even suggesting that her marriage may have limited her full potential.

Support from colleagues has poured in as well, with many applauding her ability to reach such heights in a short period — a challenge many who go through divorce often struggle to overcome.

Let’s take a look at the series of successful feats Fella Makafui has accomplished just months after her divorce

Sold-out movie premieres across the country

Following the social media buzz surrounding Fella Makafui’s divorce and her ex-husband Medikal’s public outbursts, her film Resonance became an instant hit, drawing large crowds to five major cinemas across the country.

The movie’s success extended beyond the cinemas, with sold-out shows even on university campuses in other regions.

In addition to the film’s success, Fella has landed new endorsement deals, including one with Harmony Diapers, while also renewing her contracts with Skinzone Spa and Farmhouse Productions, the creators of the popular Yolo series.

After a long break from Yolo, Fella has also been offered a lead role in a new spin-off, Serwaa TV Series, marking her return to the screen in a major way.

    Certification in cosmetic micropigmentation

Recently, Fella Makafui took to social media to announce that she has completed her studies in cosmetic micropigmentation in Dubai and has successfully earned her certificate.

She focused on areas including lips, SPMU, BB glow face rejuvenation, and paramedical cosmetic micropigmentation, among others.

    Launch of sports wear brand

Fella Makafui recently launched her sportswear brand, a new extension of her ‘Simply Snatched’ weight loss brand.

This move aims to revamp the weight loss brand’s image, which suffered a loss of public trust after her ex-husband alleged that she underwent surgery to promote her tummy trim products, causing many customers to withdraw their support.

Most coveted movie role in popular Netflix series

Fella Makafui has been cast in a leading role for the second season of the popular Nigerian Netflix series Anikulapo.

She celebrated this milestone on her Instagram, disclosing that she will portray the character Abena in Anikulapo, a show that explores life in pre-colonial times.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority (NFA), Juliet Asante, also shared the news of Fella’s role along with a picture of the actress in action.

Directed by the renowned Kunle Afolayan and greenlit by Netflix, the movie seeks to position Ghana as an emerging destination for film production under the NFA’s #ShootInGhana agenda.

  • Mbappé has proven critics wrong over dressing room conflict claims – Real Madrid’s Valverde

Mbappé has proven critics wrong over dressing room conflict claims – Real Madrid’s Valverde

Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde has asserted that Kylian Mbappé has already silenced his critics who suggested that his move to the La Liga club would create issues within the team.

Since transferring from Paris Saint-Germain on a free deal last summer, Mbappé has made a significant impact at Madrid, scoring seven goals, including five in La Liga.

Recently, his early return from a thigh injury to play for Madrid in matches against Lille and Villarreal sparked controversy regarding his absence from the French national team’s squad.

“We all know the class of player [Mbappé] is; he’s one of the best in the world,” Valverde told France Football in an extract from an interview to be published on Saturday. “Having him here today is a huge satisfaction; it’s a joy to share a pitch with him.

“I’ve had to suffer [playing against him] with PSG and playing against France with my country [Uruguay]. He stands out in every game, in every training session. He’s a top player. Thank God he’s here with us; I can enjoy it, my family can too, and my kids can watch him.”

Mbappé was a Madrid target for years before finally making the switch this summer, but there were some doubts over how he’d fit into a team that won a Champions League and La Liga double last season and already featured Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham, and Rodrygo Goes.

“As a person [Mbappé] is incredible,” Valverde said. “He’s shut a lot of people up; [people said] if he came here there’d be a lot of conflict; I don’t know what else.

“He’s quietened all that down, all those rumours, and he’s shown he’s a spectacular person… [His Spanish] is impressive, better than mine!”

Madrid face a tough run of games after the international break, visiting Celta Vigo and hosting Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League before playing league leaders Barcelona in the first Clásico of the season.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer awarded England Men’s Player of the Year

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has been awarded the England Men’s Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season, as announced by the English Football Association on Tuesday.

At just 22 years old, Palmer outperformed Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who came in second and third place, respectively, in the voting conducted among England supporters.

Palmer made an immediate impact on the national team after his debut in November 2023, scoring in his first start against Bosnia and Herzegovina in May of this year.

Although he didn’t start any matches during the Euro 2024 tournament, Palmer contributed significantly by scoring England’s only goal in their 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final. He also provided the assist for Ollie Watkins’ decisive goal in the semifinal against the Netherlands.

In addition to his national team success, the former Manchester City player has excelled at the club level, netting 22 goals in the Premier League last season and scoring six times in his first seven appearances this campaign.

Currently, Palmer is preparing with the England squad for UEFA Nations League matches, facing Greece at Wembley on Thursday and then travelling to Finland three days later.

England captain Harry Kane was absent from Tuesday’s training session, opting for an individualised workout indoors after sustaining a right leg injury during a 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt over the weekend. Fortunately, the club has confirmed that he does not have a structural injury.

Should Kane be unable to play, Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke may get his chance, having waited seven years since his last appearance for England. Solanke has been included in interim manager Lee Carsley’s squad for the upcoming matches in October.

“I think over the years, when I do see it [the shirt], I’ve always thought, ‘When I get back there and win more caps for my country…’” said Solanke, whose England debut in 2017 was a friendly against Brazil. “Having something like that on the wall is definitely extra motivation.

“I didn’t think it wouldn’t come around,” he added after England’s training session on Tuesday at St. George’s Park. “[I had to] just keep playing well and scoring goals, and I always believed that I would get back here. That was my mindset. I’m thankful to be back here now, and hopefully I can stay here.”

A video surfaced showing a woman trying to take Nana Ama McBrown’s handbag, which resulted in significant public outcry, with many labelling her a thief during Daddy Lumba’s recent birthday celebration.

In response to the controversy, McBrown expressed her disappointment over the way the woman was treated on social media.

Speaking on Onua Showtime, Nana Ama McBrown clarified that the individual in question is her producer, who was merely trying to help protect her bag as they navigated through the crowded venue.

McBrown explained that when her producer reached for the bag, she preferred to carry it herself because it matched her outfit.

Unfortunately, at that moment, security personnel and other guests shouted at the producer, which led to the misconception that she was attempting to steal the handbag.

“There’s a video trending online from when I arrived at the event. My producer reached for my handbag, and I refused. This led to the misunderstanding that she was trying to steal from me because people didn’t know she was my producer,” she said.

She added that her producer, Anita, called her in tears, unable to handle the online attacks and insults.

McBrown further said she reminded her producer that dealing with stardom isn’t easy and advised her to prepare for more challenges.

The Media Coalition Against Galamsey has announced its intention to hold a “red band” protest in solidarity with Organised Labour’s indefinite strike scheduled to commence on October 10, 2024.

Kenneth Ashigbey, the Convener of the Coalition, shared this information during an interview with Citi FM in Accra on Wednesday, October 9.

He emphasised that the protest aims to intensify calls for the government to take more robust action against the galamsey crisis, particularly in light of its failure to impose a ban on illegal mining.

Participants are encouraged to wear red bands on their arms or heads and to attach red bands to vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, to demonstrate their support.

Furthermore, supporters are invited to share photos and videos of their participation on social media, using hashtags such as #StopGalamseyNow, #SaveOurLand, and #SaveOurFuture.

In a public announcement, the Coalition urged Ghanaians to sustain the protest indefinitely until the government takes decisive steps to halt illegal mining activities.

  • Ga Mantse appeals to govt to pursue production of Azumah Nelson film

Ga Mantse appeals to govt to pursue production of Azumah Nelson film

Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has urged the government to dedicate itself to creating films that highlight some of Ghana’s overlooked narratives.

In a speech delivered by Joy FM sports journalist Nathaniel Attoh at the second edition of the Africa Cinema Summit held at the Mövenpick Hotel in Accra, the traditional leader emphasized the importance of cinema in preserving cultural heritage.

Additionally, he requested that the government produce a film chronicling the life and achievements of renowned Ghanaian boxer Azumah Nelson.

“One random [story], considering that we are on Ga and Ga-Adamgbe land and considering that he is a custodian of the Ga Adamgbe culture, is the story of one of the most achieved athletes on the African continent, Barima Professor Azumah Zumzum Nelson, who is a son of the Ga soil.

His story has that of culture, inspiration, and projection for the future, the African way. This is one of the many stories that can be pursued in a very vigorous way by the government that takes over in the year 2025,” he said.

Azumah Nelson is a former professional boxer from Ghana who competed from 1979 to 2008. He is a two-weight world champion, having held the WBC featherweight title from 1984 to 1987 and the WBC super featherweight title twice between 1988 and 1997. Additionally, he made a bid for the unified WBC and IBF lightweight titles in 1990.

On a regional level, he secured the ABU and Commonwealth featherweight titles from 1980 to 1982. Nelson is widely regarded as one of the greatest African boxers in history.

In discussing the future of African cinema, the King expressed optimism and highlighted how foreign media often emphasize negative narratives about the continent.

“We also remember with a lot of pain the images that have been projected in the foreign media away from the African continent, and we all do know what we are talking about.

Those unfortunate images of people who are distressed and woken by the sides of the streets were in actual fact the people in Rwanda and their leadership under His Excellency President Kagame, looking at a future or they were looking at a day like today,” he said.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, therefore, admonished Africans to take advantage of film as a tool for social change.

“As we embark on this journey at the Africa Cinema Summit, let us reaffirm our commitment to cinema as a vital tool for cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and social transformation. The relevance of cinema cannot be overstated. It is a reflection of our past, and the representation of our present, as well as a projection of our future,” he further noted.

The four-day summit commenced on October 7, 2024, and is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

This year’s program emphasizes enhancing the quality of local content production and consumption, advocating for increased investment in the cinema sector.

The inaugural edition of the summit attracted filmmakers from 20 African nations to Ghana, facilitating discussions on advancing cinema across the continent.

This year’s gathering is even larger, featuring more dynamic conversations aimed at further solidifying the advancements achieved in the African cinema industry, while promoting collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth.

Notable attendees include Idris Elba, the British actor of Ghanaian heritage, who was a prominent figure at the event’s opening.

Among the planned activities for the 2024 summit is a Legacy Award ceremony set for Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the Mövenpick Hotel.

  • A section of Organised Labour members threaten lawsuit over illegal galamsey strike threat

A section of Organised Labour members threaten lawsuit over illegal galamsey strike threat

Senior lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Sampson Anomah, has announced that he and fellow dissenting members of Organised Labour are ready to take legal action in response to the union’s nationwide threats.

Organised Labour is planning a strike due to the government’s failure to address the issues surrounding illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, and its detrimental effects on water bodies.

During an appearance on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, October 8, Dr. Anomah raised questions regarding the legality of the union’s demands and the proposed strike action

“I don’t really know what they are doing. They started this issue without informing us, yet they asked us to strike. We kicked against that,” Dr Anomah stated emphatically.

He warned that if Organized Labour continues its threats, he and his group will seek legal recourse. “We have already planned our legal action. We will not sit down and let them take us for a ride and mix politics with this galamsey issue,” he said.

Dr. Anomah emphasised that illegal mining is a multifaceted problem that requires careful consideration and should not be politicised, particularly with national elections approaching.

He criticised Organized Labour’s 60-day deadline for the government to address the galamsey crisis, describing it as unrealistic.

“This problem has existed for over a decade, and they haven’t provided any solutions. Now, they give an ultimatum of just 60 days? This is political,” he said, suggesting ulterior motives behind the union’s actions.

The lecturer further argued that demanding a state of emergency with such a short timeline is reckless.

He warned that drastic actions such as a “shoot-to-kill” directive, as proposed by some, could lead to chaos. “

“We don’t want to see a situation where a hasty decision is taken and innocent people suffer,” he added.

In a strong conclusion, Dr. Anomah reiterated his group’s stance: “If they proceed with this unlawful strike, we will go to court and let the law decide.”

  • GMA calls for removal of their President Dr. Serebour, in new petition

GMA calls for removal of their President Dr. Serebour, in new petition

A formal petition has been submitted by a member of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Vishnu Nene Limon Abayateye, seeking the removal of the association’s president, Dr. Frank Serebour.

This action comes in response to Dr. Serebour’s announcement urging GMA members to continue their duties despite a planned nationwide strike by Organized Labour scheduled for October 10, 2024, aimed at protesting illegal mining activities.

In the petition, which will be discussed at the GMA’s annual general assembly in Ho in November, Dr. Abayateye condemned Dr. Serebour for allegedly making a unilateral decision regarding the GMA’s participation in the strike without consulting the National Executive Council or the general assembly.

“This is in obvious contravention of article 16 of the GMA constitution,” Dr. Abayateye wrote, emphasising that the president’s actions were not representative of the broader membership’s views.

Dr. Abayateye also argued that Dr. Serebour’s stance has brought the association into disrepute.

“The announcement made the association appear duplicitous in the eyes of well-meaning Ghanaians, especially given our previous positions on the health and environmental effects of illegal mining,” he stated in the October 8 petition, adding that GMA’s reputation had been compromised.

The petition, filed under Article 23 of the GMA constitution, aims to secure the required two-thirds majority from the general assembly to initiate the removal of Dr. Serebour.

Dr. Abayateye has requested that this matter be included in the agenda for the annual meeting and communicated to all relevant members and officers.

The petition has ignited an internal discussion within the GMA, prompting many members to reflect on whether Dr. Serebour’s directive is in line with the association’s broader mission, especially concerning its position on environmental health.

The forthcoming meeting in November is anticipated to attract considerable attention, as the future of the GMA presidency is at stake.

The GMA has not yet addressed the petition or issued an official statement regarding the situation.

Illegal miners encroach GRIDCo site in Konongo

Illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey, is increasingly threatening the power supply in parts of the Ashanti and Eastern Regions, particularly in Konongo.

Illegal miners have encroached upon the concession of Northern Ashanti Mines, where crucial GRIDCo substation pylons are located, putting vital infrastructure at risk.

The encroachment poses a direct danger to the GRIDCo substation within the operational area of Northern Ashanti Mines.

Several poles supporting the power grid have been compromised, raising alarms about potential power outages that could disrupt Konongo Township and surrounding communities.

Despite ongoing efforts by the mine’s security task force, illegal mining activities continue unabated.

The mining company has expressed frustration over its failed attempts to engage local security agencies, such as the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), to help address the situation.

The threat intensified recently when armed individuals attacked the company’s security task force, resulting in injuries and damage to property.

This violent encounter underscores the significant challenges the company faces in protecting its operations and the region’s power infrastructure.

With intelligence suggesting that illegal miners are planning another attack on the mine on Thursday, October 10, the company is anxious about a potential confrontation between its security personnel and the galamseyers.

This ongoing situation continues to jeopardise both mining operations and the stability of the power supply in the affected regions.

Black Stars coach Otto Addo was seen inspecting the condition of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium ahead of their upcoming match against Sudan on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

The national team began training on Monday, October 7, and during the session, Otto Addo took time to examine the pitch to ensure its suitability for the game.

In a video circulating online, Addo is seen testing the pitch with his foot before using his hand to further assess its quality.

The condition of the stadium’s pitch has been a topic of concern, especially after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned Ghana from hosting matches due to the country’s sporting facilities not meeting CAF’s standards.

In response, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, along with the National Sports Authority, worked swiftly to improve the stadium’s conditions.

As a result, CAF has given conditional approval for the Accra Sports Stadium to host the match on October 10.

The Black Stars commenced their training with eleven players present for the session.

Join the Organised Labour’s strike and lose your job – GIHOC boss warns staff

Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has warned his staff against participating in an upcoming strike organized by Organised Labour.

He stated that the issues raised by Organised Labour are national concerns and do not directly affect GIHOC, adding that he does not support the protest and will not encourage his employees to join as it goes against company policies.

In an interview with Oyerepa FM, Jumah firmly cautioned that any GIHOC employee who joins the strike will face immediate dismissal.

“I hope the GIHOC members are listening. If you like, don’t report to work. Anyone who joins them [Organised Labour’s strike] will be sacked. I am saying this on authority. There are labour laws in the country. Let the issue be a national concern, not GIHOC’s own.

“If someone doesn’t sleep well and comes to say things, then you follow. So, if you like, follow them and see. They should not even waste our time because we are wise people at GIHOC,” he stressed.

In response, some frustrated Ghanaians staged a three-day protest, urging the government to take decisive action against illegal mining.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has since announced that military personnel will be deployed to various mining sites to combat the issue.

  • ‘Problematic prophecies’ – Apostle Onyinah ‘rants’ over Ghanaian pastors’ election predictions

‘Problematic prophecies’ – Apostle Onyinah ‘rants’ over Ghanaian pastors’ election predictions

Former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, has urged Ghanaian pastors to refrain from publicly prophesying election outcomes.

He noted that these prophecies often lead to confusion within the Christian community, as multiple pastors frequently offer conflicting predictions regarding election results.

“The National Peace Council of Ghana recently organised a forum in Accra for prophets, aimed at helping them in handling their prophetic messages responsibly to avoid inciting unrest in the upcoming election.

“I had the privilege of serving as the facilitator. During our discussions, one prophet raised the concern that politicians in Ghana often show little respect for pastors and prophets, despite seeking their support during election years.

“In response, I pointed out that, in many cases, it is we, the pastors and prophets, who may contribute to this lack of respect. For example, it is not uncommon for one pastor to prophesy that a candidate from one party will win, while another pastor claims the victory of an opposing candidate.

“This kind of contradiction brings disrepute to the name of God and creates confusion. Moreover, such prophecies have the potential to incite unrest in the country. Therefore, it is appropriate to keep these prophecies private rather than making them public and fuelling instability,” he said.

He explained that this issue becomes particularly problematic when one pastor predicts victory for a particular political Party and another predicts success for a different one.

In a Facebook post on October 8, 2024, Apostle Onyinah stated, “Unfortunately, not all prophets attended the meeting, and these problematic prophecies have become all too common in our country.

“Currently, we see two major streams of prophecy: one predicting that the NPP flagbearer will win, and the other foretelling victory for the NDC flagbearer.

“When politicians hear prophecies in their favour, they often align themselves with the prophets, celebrating favourable predictions. It is natural for people to gravitate towards good news about themselves. Even in the Bible, we see examples of individuals who acted to fulfil prophecies that favoured them, such as Jehu and Hazael (e.g., 2 Kings 8–9).

“Conversely, those who received unfavourable messages, like Zechariah, Micaiah, and Jeremiah, were sometimes mistreated or killed (e.g., 1 Kings 22:1–40; Jeremiah 37:9–20; 2 Chronicles 24:20–22).

“But, is this trend helpful? Does it promote national development, or are we simply causing harm? When two divergent prophecies are given, one is bound to fail, and in the current climate, this creates division and instability. What will happen to our nation after the election if this continues? Will we not face confusion and disgrace? Why should the men of God place the nation in such a precarious position?.”

Dr. Onyinah called on Ghanaians to vote based on their conviction of who can best lead the country rather than relying on prophetic messages.

“While damage has already been done, I believe it is not beyond remedy. I appeal to my fellow pastors and prophets: let us refrain from delivering these divisive public prophecies.

“I also urge political flagbearers and politicians not to cling to these predictions but to continue their campaigns with integrity, trusting that God’s will for their lives will unfold in his time.

“Finally, I encourage all Ghanaians not to rely on prophecies when casting their votes. Instead, vote for the candidate you believe can lead Ghana effectively in these times.

“May the Lord bless our homeland Ghana!” he added.

  • Election 2024: EC optimistic about exceeding 79% voter turnout

Election 2024: EC optimistic about exceeding 79% voter turnout

Electoral Commission (EC) has expressed optimism about improving voter turnout in this year’s elections.

While several polls have suggested potential voter apathy, Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chair of the Commission in Charge of Corporate Services, confidently stated at a Democracy and Governance Forum hosted by the West Africa Democracy Radio in Accra that the EC is determined to surpass the 79% turnout recorded in the 2020 elections.

“As far as the Electoral Commission is concerned, we were ready for the elections yesterday,” Dr. Asare said. “We believe that with the measures we have put in place, Ghana is set for another successful general election.”

He emphasised the importance of encouraging citizens to participate in the electoral process.

“In 2020, we recorded a turnout of just over 79%. This year, we aim to exceed that. We expect every registered voter to go out and exercise their right to vote,” he added.

Dr. Asare also addressed concerns regarding the transparency of the commission’s operations, assuring the public that steps are being taken to ensure the election’s credibility.

“From the registration process to everything we do, we collaborate with the political parties. In 2020, the commission spent six months compiling a new voter register and conducting the elections.

We learnt a lot from that experience and are committed to ensuring a peaceful process this time around,” he explained.

In total, approximately 18.7 million Ghanaians are expected to cast their ballots on December 7.

  • Organised Labour criticised for political interference amid demands on galamsey

Organised Labour criticised for political interference amid demands on galamsey

A senior lecturer at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Dr. Sampson Anomah, has criticised Organised Labour for overstepping its primary role by delving into political matters with its recent demands on the government regarding illegal mining, or ‘galamsey.’

Speaking during an interview on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, October 8, Dr. Anomah expressed concern over the union’s ultimatum, urging the government to declare a state of emergency to tackle the galamsey issue or risk a nationwide strike. He argued that such actions stray from the union’s main focus.

“This is a national interest issue, not something for Organized Labour to lead with a strike. Their core mandate is to protect workers’ rights, not to force the government to take drastic political actions,” he said.

Dr. Sampson Anomah suggested that Organised Labour’s sudden emphasis on illegal mining, or ‘galamsey,’ so close to the upcoming national elections, appears politically motivated.

He argued that the timing of the union’s focus on the issue, just two months before the polls, raises suspicions about the true intent behind their demands.

“Where was Labour when this issue persisted for years? Why now, when we are close to a major election?” he asked.

He added, “If you see a sound person behaving like a mad person, there’s usually something behind it.”

Dr. Anomah also criticised Organised Labour’s call for a state of emergency, arguing that it was impractical given the limited time frame. He cautioned that such a drastic measure could lead to disorder and would not effectively resolve the long-standing issue of illegal mining.

In response, Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, founder of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining, countered Dr. Anomah’s assertions on the same program. Dr. Ashigbey dismissed claims of political motivation, stressing the pressing need to address the galamsey crisis urgently.

“This is not about politics; this is about survival. People are dying because of illegal mining, and our water bodies are being destroyed,” he said passionately.

Dr Ashigbey further challenged Dr Anomah to take the issue more seriously and defended the involvement of Organized Labour.

He argued that protecting the nation’s water bodies is in everyone’s interest.

“Posterity will judge all of us,” Dr Ashigbey warned, adding that the Coalition will meet Dr Anomah in court if necessary.

Former junior world 800m champion Bett passes away at 26

Former under-20 world athletics champion Kipyegon Bett has tragically passed away at 26 in Bomet, Kenya, after a brief illness.

Bett, known for his prowess in the 800m, claimed his junior world championship title in 2016 and later earned a bronze medal at the 2017 World Championships in London.

His promising career took a downturn in 2018 when he was issued a four-year suspension for doping violations, and he faced challenges in regaining form upon his return to the sport.

“He had been sick, complaining of stomach pains for about a month. The doctors said he had a liver problem and had been in and out of hospital,” his sister Purity Kirui told BBC Sport Africa.

“Last week we took him to the hospital after he started vomiting blood and he was admitted. I went to see him [on Sunday] morning and he told me he was in pain.

“He told our dad, who is a pastor, to pray for him because he didn’t feel he would survive, and after noon he died. We tried everything to save him, but he left us. It’s very painful.”

Athletics Kenya official Barnaba Korir described Bett as “one of the most talented half-milers” in the world and a “polite, easy-going and extremely amiable” athlete.

Bett was one of Kenya’s high-profile athletes sanctioned for anti-doping violations by the Athletics Integrity Unit.

The runner was suspended in August 2018 for refusing to submit a sample and he subsequently tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO).

Kirui, a 3,000m steeplechase runner who won Commonwealth gold in 2014, said being absent from the track had an adverse effect on Bett, who was 20 at the time of his ban.

“When Kipyegon was banned, he started drinking a lot, wouldn’t eat well and suffered depression,” a tearful Kirui said from their home in Bomet.

“We tried to help him stop drinking, but whenever we wanted to take him to rehab, he would disappear from home for days.”

Bett’s period of ineligibility ended in August 2022, but he struggled to return to a sport where he once commanded respect.

“I tried to get him back into athletics when his ban ended by getting him running kit and shoes,” Kirui explained.

“Before his death, we had a plan to try one more time to take him to a rehabilitation centre in Kisumu.”

Bett was the fourth child among six siblings and took up athletics to follow in his sister’s footsteps.
“Bett joined our training group when he was in primary school because he was inspired by Purity to run,” Japheth Kemei, Kipyegon’s coach, told BBC Sport Africa.

“He was a gifted athlete who even beat [800m] world record holder David Rudisha in a race. That showed he had high potential.

“I expected him to come back to athletics once his ban was over, but he couldn’t do so due to many challenges.

“I think sometimes once an athlete is banned, there’s some depression and getting into activities that cannot support an athletics career.”

  • No doom prophecy against NPP can thwart own win – Diana Asamoah replies Owusu Bempah

No doom prophecy against NPP can thwart own win – Diana Asamoah replies Owusu Bempah

Gospel artist Diana Asamoah has voiced her optimism regarding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) prospects in the upcoming 2024 general elections, despite conflicting prophecies from some religious leaders.

Among these is Rev. Owusu-Bempah, who has forecast a win for NDC candidate John Dramani Mahama.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of King Hezekiah, who altered his fate through prayer after being warned of his imminent death by Prophet Isaiah, Asamoah expressed her belief that the NPP could experience a similar turnaround.

While speaking at an NPP campaign event in the Ashanti Region on October 5, 2024, she highlighted the government’s accomplishments, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative, asserting that these successes would play a significant role in securing their victory.

“2 Kings 2:1-7 tells us about how Isaiah prophesied to Hezekiah that he would die. Hezekiah cried out to the Lord to reverse it based on his service to God, and it was reversed; the Lord added 15 more years to his life. So the NPP government, including Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, and NAPO, will not accept defeat based on our good works like the Free SHS. Any doom prophecy against us will not stand; we will win the 2024 general elections,” she declared in Twi.

Her comments follow an incident on October 1, 2024, when Rev. Owusu-Bempah prayed for Mahama during a National Democratic Congress (NDC) meeting with clergy. During the prayer, the prophet asserted that Mahama’s kind nature would attract God’s favor, paving the way for his return to the presidency.

This prophecy has since ignited a wave of mixed reactions on social media, with many users questioning why Owusu-Bempah, who is known for his connections to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), would make such a declaration.

  • We all have made mistakes in the past, but my son is not a monster – Diddy’s mother

We all have made mistakes in the past, but my son is not a monster – Diddy’s mother

Janice Small Combs, the mother of Sean “Diddy” Combs, expressed that she is “devastated and deeply saddened” by the accusations against her son, labeling them as “lies.”

The renowned musician, celebrated for his 1997 hit “I’ll Be Missing You,” was arrested last month on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. He is currently in custody at a detention facility in Manhattan after being denied bail.

In her statement, Janice defended her son, acknowledging that while he has “made mistakes in the past, like everyone,” he is “not the monster they have portrayed him to be.”

“It is painful to witness my son being judged not based on the truth but on a narrative built on falsehoods,” she stated.

This statement, issued by her lawyer Natlie G Figgers, was attributed to Ms. Small Combs and the Combs family.

It came five days after it was revealed that Mr Combs could face lawsuits from more than 100 additional accusers, both men and women, for alleged sexual assault, rape and sexual exploitation.

The star’s lawyer have denied these and all previous charges, calling them “false and defamatory”.

He has faced a number of cases since last year when his former partner Cassie Ventura accused him of rape and abuse.

Mr Combs denied the allegations, and the case was settled out of court a day after being filed.

However, he was subsequently sued by 12 other women, many of whom accused the rapper of drugging and assaulting them.

Federal agents raided his properties in March as authorities built a criminal case against the star.

Then in May, a video of Mr Combs physically assaulting Ms Ventura in a hotel room in 2016 was leaked to the press.

In her statement, Ms Small Combs referenced the video, saying she was “not here to portray my son as perfect because he is not”.

More people would engage in galamsey if issuance of mining licenses are suspended – Minerals Commission

Minerals Commission has voiced its disapproval of pausing the issuance of mining licenses as a means to combat illegal mining, arguing that delays in processing these licenses can exacerbate the problem.

They stated that such delays push individuals towards engaging in illegal mining, which causes significant harm to water bodies and forest reserves.

During a meeting with the Government Assurance Committee of Parliament on Monday, October 7, Martin Ayisi, the CEO of the Minerals Commission, underscored the importance of addressing illegal mining.

However, he cautioned that suspending licenses for legitimate miners unintentionally creates openings for illegal operators to thrive.

“When my minister took office in 2021, the first thing he told me was, ‘Martin, the delay in issuing licenses is what’s causing the problem. So, cut the delays.’ So, what did we do? We went online. What would have taken a year now takes a week or two. They upload, we inspect, and they get on with it.”

“When you don’t issue the licenses, people will simply mine illegally. I won’t claim that everything is perfect, even with those who have licenses,” he explained.

The Minerals Commission CEO also expressed concerns about recent calls for a total ban on small-scale mining, warning that such a move would be inappropriate.

“When you say ban small-scale mining, it means not allowing anyone to do it lawfully. I understand the frustration of Ghanaians, but it would unfairly punish those who follow the rules, like those who have invested in boreholes, while others along the Pra and Birim rivers engage in illegal activities.”

Mr Ayisi further advised the government against implementing a blanket ban on small-scale mining.

  • Mahama gave more mining licences than Akufo-Addo – Minerals Commission CEO

Mahama gave more mining licences than Akufo-Addo – Minerals Commission CEO

Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Martin Ayisi, has disclosed that former President John Dramani Mahama issued a greater number of small-scale mining licences compared to the current President, Nana Akufo-Addo.

This statement has reignited debate over the management and regulation of Ghana’s mining sector, especially concerning small-scale operations.

During a presentation to the Government Assurances Committee of Parliament, led by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mr. Ayisi shared documentation supporting his claims.

He pointed out that the surge in licenses granted during Mahama’s administration has played a role in the ongoing challenges facing the mining industry.

Emphasising the importance of responsible mining practices and enhanced oversight, he highlighted the need to prevent small-scale mining activities from causing environmental damage and social issues.

The Minerals Commission has come under fire for the increase in illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as “galamsey,” which pose significant risks to both the environment and local communities.

Mr Ayisi highlighted that while small-scale mining plays a crucial role in the economy, it is essential to strike a balance between economic benefits and environmental protection.

The Minerals Commission CEO has also opposed calls for halting the issuance of new mining licenses amid calls for government action against all forms of illegal mining.

According to him, such a move could exacerbate the illegal mining crisis.

Appearing before Parliament’s Assurance Committee on Monday, October 7, Ayisi argued that if licences were not granted, it would push individuals into illegal mining commonly known as “galamsey” as a way to continue their activities.

  • I don’t depend on your tithes for a living; it doesn’t even pay electricity bills – Duncan-Williams

I don’t depend on your tithes for a living; it doesn’t even pay electricity bills – Duncan-Williams

General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has disclosed that the church’s tithes and offerings fall short of even covering its electricity expenses.

He emphasised that the financial support from congregants does not fund either his personal lifestyle or the operational costs of the church.

While delivering a sermon, the well-known cleric reassured his followers that he does not depend on their tithes and offerings for his income.

He explained that he has several local and international business ventures that financially sustain him, enabling him to concentrate on his spiritual leadership without worrying about his personal finances.

“I do so many things outside of preaching; when you look at me, don’t think it is your tithing. Because when we talk about the tithing and offering, it doesn’t even pay the electricity bill.

It is just that I don’t like talking about these things. I don’t. So there are other means; I have investments, businesses here and there, home and abroad, by which I make money in my own way.”

“And I am a serious tithe payer. I pay tithe more than you all, I am telling you, and I am very consistent. Sometimes I fight my office; I tell them have you removed the tithe, then I say don’t go there with me. Make sure the tithe is set aside, and paid to the account, and immediately send me a picture that you have paid it before I touch the money. I am a very serious person when it comes to the things of God,” he said.

Archbishop Duncan-Williams criticised certain clergymen who consider themselves too important to contribute tithes.

“And there are preachers who don’t tithe, because they are too big to tithe. They don’t tithe to anything, anybody. They become self-appointed fathers and men of God because they have come into success, power, wealth, and influence. They don’t have the grace to honour the scriptures anymore,” he added.

Tithing has remained one of the controversial subjects in Christendom, with Christians divided over its appropriateness or otherwise.

The conversations have been rekindled after popular Nigerian preacher Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God recently apologised for telling his congregants they would not make it to Heaven if they forfeited on the tithe payment.

Kwesi Appiah hopes both Ghana and Sudan qualify for 2025 AFCON

Kwesi Appiah is optimistic that both Sudan and Ghana will secure spots in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The former Ghana international, now the head coach of Sudan’s national team, the Falcons, has had a mixed start to the AFCON qualifiers with his team.

After two matches, Sudan has recorded one win and one loss, defeating Niger but falling to Angola. This leaves them in second place in Group F with three points.

Ghana’s Black Stars, under coach Otto Addo, currently sit third in the group with just one point, following a 1-0 loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw with Niger.

As Ghana and Sudan prepare to face each other in back-to-back games on the third and fourth matchdays of the qualifiers, Appiah shared his hopes that both teams will qualify for the tournament.

“I hope Ghana and Sudan qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament,” he told Asempa FM in an exclusive interview.

“We just have to pray and hope that we all achieve our aim,” he added.

The Black Stars are set to host Sudan in the first leg of their AFCON qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00 GMT.

The second leg is slated for Monday, October 14, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

I can show you where power lies by changing NDC’s ballot position – Wontumi dares Owusu Bempah

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has sharply rebuked Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah for predicting a victory for former President John Dramani Mahama in the December 7, 2024, presidential election.

In an interview on Wontumi FM, Chairman Wontumi rejected the pastor’s prophecy, asserting that Rev. Owusu Bempah has no influence over the outcome of the upcoming election.

Moreover, he claimed to have the “power and authority” to influence the arrangement of political parties on the final ballot, which was recently confirmed by the Electoral Commission.

Chairman Wontumi went further, challenging Rev. Owusu Bempah to witness what real power and strength look like.

“If he has one, I have ten,” Wontumi declared.

If he challenges me, I will move the NDC from the 8th position to the 6th. I’m telling you this to show you my strength and power. While we are embarking on a serious campaign, you’re playing games. Pharisees! I’m daring you… You’re not a man. I could say more, but I’ve forgiven you,” he said.

One phone call by Akufo-Addo can end galamsey – Hassan Ayariga

Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga, has voiced his conviction that illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey, could be entirely eradicated if President Nana Akufo-Addo took firm and decisive measures.

Speaking during an interview on the Ghana Kasa show with Kweku Ofosu, Dr. Ayariga argued that the ongoing galamsey operations continue because the government permits them.

He further stated that those in positions of authority are the very individuals facilitating and enabling these illegal mining activities.

“If the government truly wanted to stop galamsey, all the president needs to do is make one phone call, and it will end,” Dr. Ayariga said, stressing that without government approval, illegal mining wouldn’t flourish.

He further alleged that foreign nationals, particularly Chinese citizens involved in galamsey, have government backing. “The Chinese involved in galamsey don’t just arrive in Ghana by themselves; they are here with permits that go through government channels—most politicians in Ghana support galamsey. There’s no way galamsey would happen without government approval,” he asserted.

He concluded by stressing that those in power are the sponsors behind both large-scale and small-scale illegal mining. Dr. Ayariga called on the government to take action if it is truly committed to ending galamsey.

Why fight hard against LGBTQ but stay silent on galamsey? – Lecturer quizzes Bagbin

President of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Professor Eric Abavare, has expressed his disappointment in Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin for his lack of action in addressing the issue of illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.

Professor Abavare pointed out that while Bagbin was heavily involved in advocating for legislation against LGBTQI+ issues, even promising to ensure the law’s passage before the 8th Parliament concludes, he has remained noticeably silent on the issue of illegal mining, which poses a much greater threat to the country.

The lecturer emphasised that the Speaker’s inaction on the galamsey crisis is concerning and called for him to demonstrate leadership on this critical issue. He also criticised Bagbin for focusing so much energy on LGBTQI+ matters, which, according to Abavare, are far less harmful to the nation than the ongoing illegal mining activities.

“The Speaker of Parliament is on my radar because he is culpable. He is culpable not because he is involved in galamsey but because he has failed to speak against it. I will not change this position. We all saw the commitment and dedication he had towards the LGBTQI+ issue. When the law was formulated, he promised to see it passed.

“He was deeply involved in the LGBTQI+ matters and pledged that as long as he remained Speaker, he would not entertain such activities.

“But where is he now that we are talking about galamsey? Galamsey is far more dangerous and a greater threat to the nation compared to LGBTQI. With LGBTQI+, two people are in a room engaging in a private act, but galamsey threatens our livelihoods, destroys our water bodies, and ravages our forests. We’ve even gone as far as passing a new law, L.I. (2462), allowing mining in our forest reserves. Did the Speaker not see this law in Parliament?”

Speaking in an interview on Frontline 87.5 FM, he continued, “If we are blaming President Akufo-Addo for failing to address the galamsey issue, then we cannot exclude the Speaker from this mess. He is culpable, and I will not blame him alone. The Chief Justice should also bear some responsibility for what is happening.”

Meanwhile, he has called on the Speaker to resign if he is unfit for the role, stressing that Alban Bagbin has failed as a leader in the fight against galamsey

  • Anti-LGBTQ Bill protest happening today

    Anti-LGBTQ Bill protest happening today

Supporters of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, are staging a protest today, Tuesday, October 8, to express their frustration over the delays in the bill’s final approval.

The demonstrators are demanding swift action, urging the president to sign the bill into law. Although Parliament passed the bill on February 28, 2024, it has not progressed further.

The protest aims to highlight the extended wait for the bill’s implementation, which has been stalled in part due to a Supreme Court ruling on July 17, 2024. The court postponed its decision on legal challenges to the bill until all related issues are resolved, adding to the growing anxiety among its proponents.

Samuel Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and a key advocate for the bill, has been leading the call for its enactment. In an interview with Citi FM, George expressed his frustration with the delays, stressing that the bill reflects the will of the Ghanaian people, as demonstrated by its approval in Parliament.

He argued that the continued postponement is weakening the legislative process and urged the Chief Justice to expedite the legal review. George emphasised the need for the judiciary to prioritise the case so that the bill can be signed into law, asserting that it is crucial to uphold the values and principles of the nation.

“The Chief Justice has the power to demand of all the parties in the case that they file within the times stipulated in the Rules of Procedure, that you file a statement of claim within 14 days. All of this is clear, and the Chief Justice is the one who has powers to ensure that.”

“If everybody is going to take one year to file their documents, the Chief Justice thinks that that is a proper delivery of justice, where parties in the case will determine as and when and how they would be doing their filing.”

“Justice delayed is justice denied, and the expeditious delivery of justice is critical to an effective justice delivery system, and so the Chief Justice has to be up and doing,” he stated.

Supporters of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill believe it is essential to safeguard Ghana’s cultural traditions and counter the increasing presence of LGBTQ+ practices in the nation.

They are optimistic that their protest will prompt both the government and judiciary to expedite the process, ensuring the bill is advanced for final approval.

I was raised and trained well by a very respectful family – Davido replies Wizkid

Afrobeats star Davido recently reaffirmed the core values instilled in him by his family upbringing, emphasising that despite occasional controversies, he comes from a home grounded in respect.

During his visit to the Olu of Warri in Delta State, he addressed public misconceptions that have surfaced regarding his behaviour, often interpreted as a reflection of poor family upbringing.

Davido clarified that his actions are sometimes misjudged, but his family values of respect and strong morals remain integral to his character.

This statement highlights his desire to separate his public persona from any false assumptions about his background.

“I was brought up by great parents. I come from a very respectful family, but sometimes, as OBO [star], I may act out of place,” Davido explained.

Davido’s remarks come in response to a recent comment from fellow Afrobeats artist Wizkid, who insinuated that Davido’s upbringing might have been lacking.

Wizkid made an indirect reference to Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke—often dubbed the “Dancing Governor” for his viral dance videos—implying that such antics could reflect a deficiency in family training.

In his defence, Davido emphasised that while he may have a public persona that some misinterpret, it does not detract from the strong and admirable foundation his parents provided.

He firmly asserted that his family’s values are rooted in respect and integrity, countering any suggestions that imply otherwise.

Residents of Kyebi in the Eastern Region’s East Akim Municipal District are bracing for the worsening effects of illegal mining (galamsey), which has caused severe pollution of local water bodies.

The ongoing environmental degradation is expected to bring increasingly devastating consequences for the community’s water resources.

This development follows a video shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @SneakerNyame_, showing discoloured, yellowish tap water flowing in Kyebi.

The alarming footage highlights the dire situation some residents are facing, with the water’s poor quality attributed to the destructive effects of illegal mining (galamsey) activities.

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that, about two years ago, former president John Mahama, revealed that, Kyebi which is reported to be the hometown of the incumbent president, Nana Akufo-Addo is the galamsey headquarters in Ghana.

A U.S.-based Ghanaian Mining Consultant and Engineer supported the former President’s statement, asserting that it is indeed factual and beyond dispute.

Dr. Owusu emphasized that the current state of the Birim River, alongside the widespread degradation of lands in the Kyebi area, serves as undeniable evidence confirming the ex-President’s claims.

Also, in recent times, several associations including organised labour have advocated for a halt to galamsey activities, threathening a nationwide strike over government’s delayed actions to address illegal mining activities well known as galamsey

  • Pogba-Juve open talks for contract termination after truncated doping ban

Pogba-Juve open talks for contract termination after truncated doping ban

Paul Pogba may soon become a free agent, with discussions reportedly underway to terminate his contract with Juventus, according to sources from ESPN.

After successfully appealing his doping suspension, which was reduced to 18 months, Pogba is set to resume training in January 2025 and return to competitive football by March.

Both Pogba and Juventus are reportedly considering the possibility of him continuing his career at a different club. Though Pogba is under contract with Juventus until June 2026, a mutual agreement might allow the 31-year-old to leave early and sign with another team.

Since his return to Juventus after leaving Manchester United in 2022, Pogba has only made 12 appearances for the Serie A side, and this potential contract termination could signal a fresh start for the midfielder.

His last competitive appearance was as a second-half substitute in a 2-0 win over Empoli more than a year ago.

Pogba was provisionally suspended in September 2023 before being handed a four-year ban in February. He gave evidence at an appeal in the summer and last week was cleared to begin playing again early next year.

In a statement, CAS outlined their reasoning behind the reduction in Pogba’s ban: “The CAS Panel based its decision on the evidence and legal arguments made that Mr Pogba’s ingestion of DHEA, the substance for which he tested positive, was not intentional and was the result of erroneously taking a supplement prescribed to him by a medical doctor in Florida, after Mr Pogba had been given assurances that the medical doctor, who had claimed to treat several high-level US and international athletes, was knowledgeable and would be mindful of Mr Pogba’s anti-doping obligations under the World Anti-Doping Code.

“Much of the evidence provided by Mr Pogba was unopposed. The CAS Panel determined, however, that Mr Pogba was not without fault and that, as a professional football player, he should have paid greater care in the circumstances.”

A statement issued by Pogba on Friday read: “Finally the nightmare is over. I can look forward to the day when I can follow my dreams again.

“I always stated that I never knowingly breached World Anti-Doping Agency regulations when I took a nutritional supplement prescribed to me by a doctor, which does not affect or enhance the performance of male athletes.

“I play with integrity, and although I must accept that this is a strict liability offence, I want to place on record my thanks to the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s judges who heard my explanation.

“This has been a hugely distressing period in my life because everything I have worked so hard for has been put on hold.”

Video: Pope Skinny and Shatta Wale’s relationship status after falling out in the past – Rapper details

Ghanaian rapper Pope Skinny has discussed his current rapport with dancehall sensation Shatta Wale, emphasising that, despite previous conflicts, they have managed to maintain a positive relationship.

During an interview on Adom FM’s Ofie Kwanso show with Jerry Justice, Pope Skinny acknowledged their history of disagreements but affirmed that their connection remains intact.

He highlighted that, while misunderstandings occurred in the past, they have both moved past those issues and are currently on friendly terms.

“We had a misunderstanding and couldn’t solve it indoors, so we brought it out to the public. But now, we are no more like that. I am too mature to have issues with Shatta Wale. He is my guy, my friend, and I do not have any problem with him,” Pope Skinny shared.

He admitted that although their disagreement became public, it was just one of many quarrels between them.

“We have fought many times, and this is the only one that came out… He said something that pained me, but I had to let the people know it wasn’t true. But for life, I and Wale, we are for life.”

Pope Skinny also revealed that he had recently reached out to Shatta Wale when he arrived in the country.

“I sent him a message that he should come and pick me up at the airport, but he didn’t come. I even told some of his people. It would have been beautiful for him to do that, but he knows where I am, so I believe he will surprise me with a visit.”

  • National Cathedral project was Akufo-Addo’s vow, not the country’s – Sonnie Badu

National Cathedral project was Akufo-Addo’s vow, not the country’s – Sonnie Badu

Gospel artist Sonnie Badu has joined the ongoing discussion about the controversial National Cathedral project.

In a recent interview with Empire FM, a station based in Takoradi, he expressed that the controversy surrounding the cathedral stems from the fact that it was a vow made to God by an individual rather than a collective commitment.

Badu’s comments reflect the differing opinions on the cathedral’s significance and the funding behind it. This discussion highlights the complexities of faith-based projects and their implications within the community.

“The reason why there are a lot of problems and confusion is that it was not a collective vow. It was an individualistic vow, and that is why there is a little bit of an issue there,” he said.

Buttressing his point with some Biblical examples, Sonnie said people who made vows to God in the Biblical times ensured they honoured them.

“If that was the vow that the President gave to God, then he needs to honour his vow. When you read the Bible, people made vows to God and they fulfilled them. So you asking me if it is necessary, I will say that if he vowed to God, he needs to honour.

But that is very personal between him and his God. So it’s more like ‘I have promised God so I need to use my own money to fulfil it’. But when it’s like ‘I have promised God so let’s all do it’, that is where the whole confusion is,” he indicated.

Sonnie Badu, however, noted that the idea of the National Cathedral is a good one.

“A cathedral is a good thing. Just as there are a lot of mosques that Muslims put together for people to go there to worship, a National Cathedral, something for the nation, is not a bad idea,” he added.

About the National Cathedral of Ghana

The construction of the National Cathedral of Ghana is borne out of a promise that the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, made to God.

“I made a pledge to almighty God that He was gracious enough to grant my party, the NPP, and I victory in the 2016 elections after two unsuccessful attempts, so I will help build a cathedral to his glory and honour,” President Nana Akufo-Addo said at the sod-cutting ceremony in 2020.

“The interdenominational national cathedral will help unify the Christian community and thereby help promote national unity and social cohesion,” he added.

The Cathedral is supposed to provide a historic opportunity to put God at the centre of our nation’s affairs and serve as a symbol of our eternal and continuing gratitude to Him for the blessings He continues to shower and bestow on our nation.

  • Taylor Swift now world’s richest female musician – Forbes

Taylor Swift now world’s richest female musician – Forbes

Taylor Swift has officially overtaken Rihanna to become the wealthiest female musician globally, with her net worth now estimated at a staggering $1.6 billion.

This milestone was confirmed on Saturday, October 5th, following an update by Forbes, which reflects the immense success of Swift’s “Eras Tour” and the continued popularity of her music catalog.

By surpassing Rihanna’s $1.4 billion net worth, Swift now holds the top spot among female musicians and is ranked second among all musicians worldwide. The only artist with a higher valuation is Jay-Z, with a net worth of $2.5 billion.

What sets Swift apart is that she’s the first musician to amass a billion-dollar fortune almost entirely from her music and tours, unlike other artists whose wealth largely comes from external business ventures.

This achievement underscores her dominance in the music industry and the enduring appeal of her body of work.

A year after hitting the billionaire milestone, Forbes now estimates that Taylor Swift’s assets break down into $600 million from touring and royalties, another $600 million from her music catalog, and $125 million from real estate investments.

Swift has long been a prominent figure on wealthiest musician lists, but her financial growth over recent years has been remarkable. Back in 2020, her fortune was estimated at $365 million, meaning she’s accumulated more than $1.2 billion in just the past four years.

While Swift now holds the title of the richest female musician, Rihanna retains her standing as the “Richest Female Musician of All Time,” with a peak net worth once estimated at $1.77 billion. However, Swift may surpass even that, especially after concluding her highly successful “Eras Tour,” which will wrap up with its final dates in the U.S. and Canada later this year.

Additionally, Swift recently made headlines for endorsing Kamala Harris for president, a move that drew criticism from Donald Trump, who warned she would “pay a price” for her political stance.

A group of mobility-impaired individuals have taken to the streets, wearing Bawumia-NAPObranded t-shirts, to publicly endorse their candidature ahead of the 2024 elections.

In a video shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @Gen_Buhari_ on October 6, 2024, a group of individuals were captured joyfully riding their wheelchairs and signing Dr. Bawumia’s name on the ballot paper.

They were seen dancing to Fameye’s hit song Very Soon, celebrating and endorsing Dr. Bawumia’s candidature ahead of the 2024 elections.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 manifesto includes policies focused on improving the lives of physically impaired individuals.

His proposals emphasize making Ghana more inclusive by enhancing accessibility and expanding social protection for people with disabilities.

The manifesto outlines commitments to build more disability-friendly infrastructure, provide specialized healthcare services, and improve access to education and job opportunities for the physically impaired.

This aligns with the broader NPP strategy to ensure that all citizens, regardless of physical ability, benefit from national development.

  • Kwasi Appiah resigns as GFA Executive Council ahead of Ghana-Sudan game

Kwasi Appiah resigns as GFA Executive Council ahead of Ghana-Sudan game

Sudan’s head coach, James Kwasi Appiah, has resigned from his position as an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

His aide, Asante Forkuo, explained that the decision stemmed from a conflict of interest, as Appiah held dual roles with the GFA and the Sudan national team.

The resignation is said to be temporary, lasting until November 2024, allowing Appiah to fully concentrate on coaching Sudan ahead of their upcoming matches against Ghana’s Black Stars.

“Coach Kwasi Appiah has temporarily stepped aside as Executive Council Member of the GFA until the end of November 2024. In response to CAF copying the GFA, he cited conflict of interest as the reason.

Since the start of AFCON qualifiers, Appiah has excused himself from all EXCO activities,” Asante Forkuo shared on X on October 7, 2024.

Kwasi Appiah has faced increased pressure since his team, Sudan, was drawn in the same group as Ghana for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Dr. Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council (Exco), revealed that Appiah has not attended any Exco meetings since the qualifying draw was made.

Appiah was elected to the Exco in 2023 after securing 10 votes, largely due to his role as a member of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee.

With the Black Stars yet to secure a win in their opening two matches, they will look to turn things around when they face Sudan in a crucial doubleheader.

The first leg is scheduled for October 11, with the second leg set for October 14, 2024.

The GFA Executive Council, the highest decision-making body in Ghana football, consists of 22 members, including the association’s president.

  • People see you as a conman now if you call yourself a prophet – Pastor Otabil fumes

People see you as a conman now if you call yourself a prophet – Pastor Otabil fumes

General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has expressed serious concerns regarding the behaviour of certain pastors in Ghana, suggesting that their conduct is detrimental to the faith of the public.

He noted that the recent actions and statements of some clergymen are leading to a decline in trust and faith among believers.

The respected pastor lamented the absence of a governing authority in the religious sector that would assess and verify individuals before granting them pastoral titles such as prophet or bishop.

Pastor Otabil cautioned that if religious leaders fail to act in alignment with God’s intentions, they risk losing the confidence of the community.

“As a charismatic church, we see so much power, and maybe that is what all of you see. But I see so much danger and so much self-destruction, so much dissipation of confidence. More and more, the congregation and the public are losing confidence in us. They are losing confidence in men of God, in clergymen. If you call yourself a prophet, it’s almost like a title meaning conman.

“How can we take such a sacred title that Isaiah had, that Jeremiah had, all of these great people, and commoditise it and cheapen it so much that now this noble title almost means a conman?

Because there is no regulatory body, everybody picks titles as they want and parades with it,” he said while preaching to a congregation at the Desert Pastures, Bolgatanga (home church of Rev. Eastwood Anaba).

This statement is made amidst a period when several self-proclaimed prophets have been vocal about their insights and forecasts concerning the upcoming 2024 general elections.

NIA workers embark on strike over delayed implementation of Service Scheme

Divisional Executives Council of the Public Services Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, National Identification Authority (NIA) Division, has announced an industrial strike effective today, October 7.

A notice issued by the aggrieved workers on Sunday, October 6, indicates that the strike is a result of the employer’s failure to implement their newly approved scheme of service.

The aggrieved workers say they will not call off their industrial action until the agreed scheme of service is implemented.

“After exhaustive patience and repeated demands, we regret to inform you that your unacceptable failure to operationalise the newly approved Scheme of Service (SoS) has compelled us to take this decisive action beginning Monday, October 7, 2024.

And by extension, all our members will not avail ourselves to work beginning [Monday] until the scheme of service is fully operationalised.”

The workers say the failure to implement the agreed scheme of service is a blatant breach of trust and a direct attack on the well-being of all members.

“The SoS, which was painstakingly approved by PSC within two weeks in record history in the month of March, remains a vital tool for our collective survival and progress.

Management’s obstinate refusal to implement this critical document is a blatant betrayal of trust and a direct attack on our well-being.”

If you vote for Mahama as a resident in Kumasi, then you have put a curse on yourself – NAPO

New Patriotic Party’s running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has warned that anyone in the Ashanti Region who supports the campaign of opposition leader John Dramani Mahama could be inviting misfortune upon themselves.

While speaking to party supporters in Bantama at a rally, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasised that during Mahama’s presidency, he demonstrated bias against the Ashanti Region by dismissing individuals from that area within his administration.

“President John Dramani Mahama, if you live in the Ashanti Region and he comes to campaign for votes and you follow him, you have cursed yourself because he is the only president who ended up sacking every person from Ashanti in his government.

He sacked Kwabena Duffuor, who was the finance minister; he sacked Oteng-Agyei, who was the energy minister.

Did he sack Duffuor or not? He sacked Betty Mould Iddrisu, who is from Agona. Who in the Ashanti Region was he able to work with? It was right here that he stood and said he won’t listen to anyone,” he stated.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, a former Energy Minister, has been named the running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in support of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential campaign.

As a native of the Ashanti Region, he is anticipated to strengthen the party’s position in this area, which is traditionally viewed as the NPP’s stronghold.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Service reported that the officer had obtained permission to visit relatives in Kasoa when he was reportedly attacked and killed by a group of unidentified assailants.

“The Prisons Administration is collaborating with the police to unravel the circumstances that led to the gruesome murder of the officer,” it stated.

Adding, “So far, six (6) persons made up of four (4) females and two (2) males have been arrested and arraigned before the court. The suspects have thus been remanded for further investigation into the matter.”

The Service said its leadership was committed to ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to book.

“The Service wishes to caution the general public against the use of “Instance Justice” in dealing with suspects but to resort to the Police to avoid harming and killing innocent individuals.”

Wicked man; I am happy Pastor Love is in jail – MC Yaa Yeboah

Entertainment commentator MC Yaa Yeboah expressed her satisfaction with the 48-month prison sentence handed to Pastor Hammond Love, popularly known as Pastor Love.

She criticised the pastor for his inappropriate behaviour on social media, where he often resorted to insults during disagreements, which aligns with reports of his arrogance in court.

Yaa Yeboah highlighted that Pastor Love’s attempt to deceive a car dealer and his reportedly disrespectful demeanour during the court proceedings justified the sentence. She hopes this outcome serves as a lesson for him.

During the United Showbiz aired on UTV on October 5, 2024, MC Yaa Yeboah said, “It is unfortunate Pastor Love allowed this to happen, but as for me, I am very happy about it. We are all not perfect, but we have to learn to treat people with respect. The lawyer said during the court hearing, he displayed some level of arrogance.

Although I don’t know him personally, per his actions I have seen on social media, boasting and insulting others, I’m not surprised.

“You used your own money to retrieve a vehicle from the port, and the person wanted to pay the fee and take his car. How wicked can you be that the person gave you the owed amount, yet you refused to tell him the whereabouts of the car? Is he trying to show his superiority or what?”

    Background

Pastor Hammond Love was sentenced to 48 months in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing a car. The case dates back to 2017 when he was accused of selling a Toyota Highlander without the owner’s permission.

Samuel Amankwah, the complainant, had imported the vehicle in 2016 and entrusted Pastor Love to clear it. He initially instructed Pastor Love to sell the car for $50,000 and deduct the clearing fees, but later decided to handle the payment himself upon his arrival in Ghana in April 2017.

Upon his return, Amankwah discovered that Pastor Love could not produce the car, despite multiple requests. When arrested, Pastor Love claimed he had taken a loan of GH¢40,000 at 20% interest to clear the car and had sold it for GH¢80,000 without Amankwah’s consent to repay the loan. However, he failed to provide any information about the loan company or the buyer.

In court, Pastor Love asked for leniency as a first-time offender and offered to pay a fine, but his request was denied by Judge Isaac Addo.

Ghana’s petroleum industry lagging because of high taxes – Deloitte Report

According to the report, 46% of industry stakeholders view “high tax rates” as the most critical issue affecting their operations.

These tax challenges are not only reducing profitability but also stifling growth and limiting the sector’s competitiveness. Around 42% of industry players are calling for a tax amnesty, believing it would help foster a more favourable business environment.

The survey also indicates that nearly 80% of respondents rely on foreign currency to fulfil their financial obligations but face hurdles in acquiring it.

High exchange rates were singled out as a significant obstacle, with many urging the central bank to address the persistent forex shortages.

On the regulatory front, about 91% of industry players feel that local content regulations are either adequate or somewhat adequate in encouraging Ghanaian involvement in the sector.

However, only a small percentage believes these regulations deter foreign investment.

Additionally, the majority of senior management officials emphasize the need for companies to be transparent about their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices.

The importance of public disclosure around environmental and social impacts was underscored by an average rating of 4.22 in the survey.
