Head of the History and Political Science Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST),Professor Samuel Adu Gyamfi, advised theNew Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, against centering their campaign on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s policies and achievements.
During an interview on Neat FM on July 15, 2024, Prof. Gyamfi asserted that President Akufo-Addo’s nearly eight-year tenure has not yielded significant policies or enduring legacies.
He cautioned that relying on these aspects for their campaign could potentially harm the party’s electoral prospects.
“If the NPP tries to campaign on the so-called achievements of Akufo-Addo, they won’t even secure 40% of the vote in the upcoming 2024 elections,” he stated.
The professor emphasized the need for the NPP to pivot its campaign strategy to focus on Dr. Bawumia’s potential contributions.
“The party should present the credible ideas and strengths that Bawumia brings to the table,” he advised.
Prof. Gyamfi also raised concerns about the potential negative impact on Bawumia’s campaign if the party relies too heavily on Akufo-Addo’s credentials. He advised the party to avoid this approach to safeguard their prospects in the December polls.
“So, they should go into this election with the prowess that Bawumia is bringing on board because Akufo-Addo’s credentials cannot push the NPP. They shouldn’t even try before he destroys Bawumia’s campaign.I am being frank with you.
“Bawumia brings all the credible ideas that would have made Ghana,” he added.

Traders at the Racecourse Market in Kumasi have expressed their dissatisfaction with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging Ashanti region voters to explore other options in the upcoming December 2024 general elections.
Their discontent is partly due to the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, as the running mate for the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
At a press conference on July 15, 2024, the market women voiced their frustration, accusing the NPP of neglecting the region despite its longstanding support for the party.
In their message to the NPP, the Racecourse market women warned that,
“If Bawumia thinks we will vote for him because he is from the Ashanti Region, then he should forget about it. We are no more going to vote based on where we come from but rather who can bring development to Asanteman”.
The traders pointed to the halted construction of critical projects, such as the Kumasi Central Market and the Krofrom Market, as the basis for their grievances.
Spokesperson for the traders, Christabel Amoah, stressed that although Dr. Opoku Prempeh is from the Ashanti Region, his nearly two-decade tenure as MP has not resulted in significant benefits for the community.
“We don’t have a proper place to use as our market. We live in water. Racecourse has been deserted. We stay under the sun from morning till dusk for our daily bread. Sometimes we are overrun by vehicles and some even lose their lives through it.
“NAPO has been MP for 16 years and the abandoned Krofrom Market is in his constituency so we expected him to fix it so we could use it but he didn’t. And we don’t expect him to address our problems at this juncture when he has been appointed as running mate,” onuaonline.com quoted her to have said during the press conference.
The traders also emphasized their lack of support during crises, such as fire outbreaks, noting that the MP has not engaged with them to help find solutions.
“A lot has happened in our market including fire outbreaks but there has not been a single instance where he has come to us to share in our problems to help solve them” she added.
He shared this insight while guest lecturing in a psychology class at the University of Ghana. During the session, the 34-year-old discussed topics such as mental strength, leadership, and managing fame.
After the event, Ayew elaborated on the reasons why he couldn’t pursue higher education.
“Because of football, I didn’t have the opportunity to go to university because I started so early. But it makes you remember a lot of things, you know.
Nothing replaces your school days. I was in a French school here in East Legon for so long before I went to France.
“And that was, you know, a great moment. You remember what happened in class, being a bit stubborn sometimes. But yeah, coming back here, I just felt happy.
“And that’s, for me, what’s important. I don’t want to always say everything in a short time, but bit by bit, if we have time to go into these things, you know, we are more than open to open up a lot of experiences that we’ve had to be able to help the ones coming.”

President Akufo-Addo has announced that the government’s Agenda 111 Hospital Projects will generate approximately 67,000 jobs upon completion.
Emphasizing the project’s importance, he noted that each hospital, which will employ over 100 people, highlights Agenda 111 as a transformative initiative.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Adansi North Hospital in Fomena, Ashanti Region, President Akufo-Addo reiterated the government’s dedication to completing the hospitals.
“There’s an average number of 120 workers on each construction site, and when completed, an average of 559 persons will be employed in a district hospital, 1,343 in the regional hospital, and 947 in each psychiatric hospital.
This means that 67, 635 people will be employed in the Agenda 111 Hospitals,” President Akufo-Addo assured.
The Agenda 111 hospital project, a key initiative of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, aims to greatly improve healthcare accessibility across the nation.
Recently, President Akufo-Addo inaugurated the 120-bed Fomena Hospital in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region, concluding a long delay in its completion.
Originally started in 2014, the project encountered multiple setbacks due to funding issues, prompting concerns from residents of the Adansi Traditional Area who called on authorities to expedite its completion.
During the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo highlighted that the hospital’s completion underscores the government’s dedication to delivering modern healthcare facilities that meet current standards nationwide.
People’s National Convention (PNC) has requested that the Electoral Commission (EC) delay issuing the final certificate for the registration of the People’s National Party (PNP).
In a statement sent to the EC on July 16, the PNC’s solicitors raised concerns about the name PNP, noting that it closely resembles the PNC, the party that emerged from the PNP.
They argue that this similarity could potentially confuse voters.
“The use of the palm nut tree as an emblem for the newly formed party PNP will further confuse the electorates leaving them to believe that the PNC and PNP are one and the same.”
“Since the executives of the PNP are former executives of the PNC, together with the history between the erstwhile PNP and PNC earlier canvassed, it will leave no doubt in the minds of electorates that the new PNP and PNC are one and the same,” the statement read.
Buipe-Wura Abdulai Jinapor II has denied claims that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO),the vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, is arrogant.
Speaking during a visit from the NPP flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on July 16, 2024, Buipe-Wura Abdulai Jinapor II expressed that he is well-acquainted with NAPO, as NAPO is one of his subjects.
The chief assured Dr. Bawumia that, similar to the guidance provided by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, he would advise NAPO to serve Dr. Bawumia with unwavering dedication.
“Bawumia, listen to me very well. You are wise enough today. When you go, tell Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) that the Buipe-Wura said ‘I should greet you’.
“Matthew Opoku Prempeh is not only coming from the Asantehene’s palace; Matthew Opoku Prempeh also comes from this particular parish. He is from this palace. When you ask him, he will tell you the rest of the story.
He added, “And I know very well. When he tells you the story, you will come back. The way Asantehene has spoken to him, I would equally speak to him.The way people perceive or look at him to be, that is not how he is. And when you go, greet him for me.”

Controversial and outspoken journalist Blessed Godsbrain Smart aka‘Captain Smart‘, has rained insults on any Ghanaian who intends to vote into power the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Captain Smart during his morning show on Onua TV’s Maakye morning show on July 11, 2024 called every Ghanaian who has plans of voting for what he labels as the ‘Bawumia-NAPO’ ticket is an “animal”.
“Now let me say this, you are an animal if you vote for NPP.I will repeat this statement again, the ticket of Bawumia-NAPO if you vote for them then you are an animal” he fumed.
Only a senseless human being would vote for Dr Bawumia and his running mate Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO).
“You are senseless, in fact your sense has been thrown to the floor, trampled on and left to decay.
Not to say you aren’t human, but you are one that I love, respect, crave your presence so much but if indeed you vote these people, then …
I don't blame this dumb, useless, foolish, and st*pid guy. We all know he has mental problems. And to think he's working for Media General – it's no surprise. My only issue is that these people, at any given chance, disrespect and insult Ghanaians in the name of journalism, and… pic.twitter.com/6OP4LorQk1
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), alongside various social stakeholders, have strongly criticized Blessed Godsbrain Smart of Onua TV/Onua FM for making disparaging remarks about individuals supporting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections.
At a press briefing held in Accra on Tuesday (July 16), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, president of the GJA, voiced their collective disapproval, stating that,
“Over the weekend, for example, we heard the disturbing and reckless comments of Blessed Godsbrain Smart aka ‘Captain Smart‘, made on Accra-basedOnuaTV. He described them as ‘beasts, people who would vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December elections.”
Dwumfour said, “Given the severity of his utterances and the ethical breach, we call on the board and management of Media General, to take immediate action to mete out appropriate sanctions to Mr. Smart. This will not only serve as a deterrent to others but will enhance public confidence in the media organisation, as an organisation that detest unprofessional conduct.”
Minority in Parliament has disclosed that the government is indebted to the tune of over GH6 billion to companies, individuals and organisations in relation to the Free Senior High School policy.
The caucus reveals that the government has failed to reimburse over GH¢300 million funds used in the procurement of the GH¢1.3 million tablets for the ‘One Student One laptop initiative’.
Addressing journalists in Accra, on Wednesday July 17, the Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, said,
“Free SHS is a very laudable programme, it has provided access to secondary education for quite a large number of people who wouldn’t have had the opportunity, looking at the cost involved at that time.
“However, the programme is facing a lot of challenges and one of them has to do with Finance. As we speak now, the financial challenges are becoming too much and it’s going through the roof. I can say that the information available to me indicates that over GHC6 billion is being owed to companies, individuals and organisations in relation to Free SHS.
“This year, they launched the tablets for SHSs, because this is going to reduce the burden on the printing of textbooks. So, the idea is fine, we support it, when you look at the NDC 2020 manifesto, it’s there, we even added tertiary institutions.
“You have asked somebody to supply GH¢1.3 million tablets, to cover all students and you’re not paying for it. The man has gone for a loan which is at the cost of GH¢37 million and you’re not paying…
You have paid him less than 10%; how will the person pay the loan? As a minority, we’re concerned. If we do this, we’re killing businesses of individuals and companies in the country. So, there’s a need for us to intervene.”
The Minority adds that the government owes the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) a total amount of GH¢224 million, frustrating plans towards the conduct ofWASSCE.
“Government still owes WAEC, exams will start in August, [but] government has not released any money to WAEC, they owe them a total of GH¢224 million, so WAEC is unable to talk again, we shouldn’t be going on that tangent.”

West Ham are making a strong push to acquire Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka at a reduced price this summer.
According to talkSPORT, the Hammers are eager to strengthen their defense and are advancing in negotiations with Manchester United to finalize the deal.
Wan-Bissaka could transfer to East London for as little as £15 million (€17.8m/$19.5m), a significant reduction from the original £50 million (€59.5m/$65.1m) that United paid to Crystal Palace in 2019.
Although Manchester United would incur a substantial loss on Wan-Bissaka, the deal is beneficial for both clubs.
West Ham would gain a quality player to compete with or potentially replace Vladimir Coufal, while Manchester United would create space for incoming player Leny Yoro, who is completing his medical ahead of his move from Lille.
Wan-Bissaka was a regular starter for United last season when not sidelined by injury. With only one year remaining on his contract, he appears set to conclude his five-year tenure at Old Trafford.
The England international was part of the squad that won the FA Cup against rivals Manchester City afew months ago, which may have been his final appearance in a red shirt.
The deal is not yet finalized, and it is unclear whether Wan-Bissaka is interested in returning to the capital.
Currently, he is scheduled to join the club’s pre-season tour in the US, but this could change if West Ham submits an official bid soon.
Ghanaian-born Spanish wingerNico Williams was thrilled to receive a response from Neymar after mimicking his celebration at Euro 2024.
Nico posted an image on Instagram of himself performing the celebration after scoring in the final. Neymar replied to the post with emojis that mirrored the celebration. Nico, excited by Neymar’s comment, responded by calling the Brazilian his ‘idol.’
In a previous interview with Mundo Deportivo, Nico mentioned that Neymar has been his inspiration since childhood.
“He is a big inspiration for me, the player I enjoyed watching most as a kid. I always tried to emulate his dribbles, even if they didn’t always come off. He is my idol, and I hope to achieve what he has achieved in my own way,” Williams earlier said.
Ghana skipper Andre Ayew insists that playing for the Black Stars is driven by patriotism, not money.
Ayew spoke at a University of Ghana lecture, reflecting on his career and the importance of representing Ghana.
“The national team is so important to my life, my family’s life,” Ayew underlined.
He contrasted his experience with those who excelled through traditional education.
The former Marseille star stated, “Our life, my family is about the game and from this country, not from anywhere else. So when we know we have to wear this jersey, for me it’s all about sacrifices.”
The 34-year-old free agent, following his stint with Le Havre, highlighted the immense honour and pride he feels when wearing Ghana’s jersey.
“I don’t gain my bread, my family’s living wearing the national team colours,” Ayew declared.
“I wear these national colours with pride and honour,” added theU-20 World Cup winner.
Ayew, who missed out on the recent call-up, remains strongly committed to the national team.
This dedication is further solidified by his record-breaking 120 appearances and 24 goals for Ghana.
Former Black Stars legend Augustine Arhinful has disclosed that he once cautioned Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Simon Okraku about the people in his circle.
Arhinful recounted that Okraku was pushing for a policy to decentralize the GFA’s status committee, a move he vehemently opposed due to various practical challenges.
Arhinful shared that during a briefing, he advised Okraku to drop the decentralization plans, drawing from his own experiences on similar committees.
However, Okraku did not appreciate this advice.
In an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah, Arhinful revealed that this disagreement prompted him to write a letter to Okraku, warning him to be wary of those around him.
“I attended Kurt’s meeting because I had heard that he wanted to decentralise the status committee, but I knew it wasn’t feasible unless certain changes were made.
During the question session, I suggested that his plan to decentralize the status committee should be reconsidered because it wasn’t possible. I have been part of two status committees in Europe, one in Italy and the other in Turkey.
“He wasn’t happy with my suggestion and even told someone that I was trying to undermine him. After five years, has he done it? No… I wrote a personal letter warning him to be careful with the people around him because I realized they only tell him the positives.
I sent it to his office at Asylum Down, but I don’t know if he received and read it,”Arhinful said in a n interview.
Lamine Yamal has reportedly selected a new squad number at Barcelona, opting not to inherit Lionel Messi’s iconic No. 10 jersey.
Barcelona has officially promoted Yamal and Pau Cubarsi to the first-team squad for La Liga after their breakthrough performances in the 2023/24 season.
With this promotion comes the privilege of choosing new kit numbers, a significant milestone in any footballer’s career.
According to Jijantes, Yamal has decided on the No. 19 shirt for the upcoming season, amidst much speculation about whether he would take on Messi’s famous number.
Initially, there were suggestions that Yamal might opt for the No. 17 shirt, recently vacated by Marcos Alonso, who wore No. 27 the previous season.
However, he has surprised many by choosing No. 19, a number he recently wore while representing Spain at UEFA Euro 2024.
The No. 19 jersey holds its own legacy at FC Barcelona, having been worn by notable players such as Franck Kessie, who departed last season, as well as Ferran Torres and Sergio Aguero.
Even Lionel Messi himself wore the No. 19 from 2005 to 2008 before adopting the iconic No. 10.
Another Barcelona legend, Patrick Kluivert, also sported the number during the 1998/99 season.
Yamal’s decision to select this number links him to a history of significant players while allowing him to establish his own identity within the club.
Yamal’s ascent has been remarkable, setting multiple records for his club during the 2023/24 season.
His recent standout performances in Euro 2024, where he played a pivotal role in Spain’s fourth European championship victory, have solidified his status as one ofBarcelona’s key players.
However, he will miss Barcelona’s pre-season tour as he takes a well-deserved break following the conclusion of the European championship.
Luka Modric’s enduring journeywith Real Madrid will extend further, as the midfielder has signed a one-year contract extension.
The evergreen Modric will remain a presence at the Bernabeu for at least another season. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of June, but a new agreement ensures he will stay in Spain well beyond his 39th birthday.
In recent years, Modric has taken on a more supporting role at Madrid, with younger talents like Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde, and Jude Bellingham emerging.
Despite starting only 18 games, Modric contributed significantly as Real secured another La Liga title.
Embracing his reduced playing time, Modric’s commitment reflects Real Madrid’s ongoing success in nurturing and acquiring midfield talent, positioning them strongly for future competitions.
Real Madrid stated, “Real Madrid C.F. and Luka Modrić have reached an agreement to extend the contract of our captain, keeping him with the club until 30 June 2025.”
“Modrić arrived at Real Madrid in 2012, and in his twelve seasons representing our shirt he has become a Real Madrid and world football legend.”
Modric will be hoping to add to his extensive trophy collection next season and will surely be helped by the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.
The France superstar has been unveiled at theSantiago Bernabeuafter completing his long-awaited transfer to the Spanish giants.
Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly become a leading candidate to manage the USMNT following Gregg Berhalter’s departure.
Berhalter stepped down after the American team’s disappointing group stage exit at the 2024 Copa America.
The USA FA initially approached former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for the position, but after Klopp declined, they turned their attention to Pochettino, as reported by Diario Ole.
Pochettino recently became available after leaving Chelsea in May, where he led the team to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League.
His profile suits the USMNT’s needs: a youthful coach with a distinguished background, fluent in English, and experienced in top-tier football.
The 52-year-old Argentine has an impressive coaching resume, including leading Tottenham Hotspur to a Champions League final and managing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
The USMNT role could be appealing to Pochettino, offering him the chance to shape a promising group of young American talents, such as Gio Reyna and Folarin Balogun, to his style and philosophy.
Should Pochettino accept the offer from the USA FA, he would have the opportunity to guide the team in the 2026 World Cup on home soil, a compelling factor that could influence his decision to coach Christian Pulisic and his teammates.
Mason Greenwood is nearing a transfer to Marseille, as the Manchester United outcast heads to France for a medical examination.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, an agreement has been reached for Greenwood to join the Ligue 1 team on a permanent basis.
Marseille has scheduled a medical for the 22-year-old, who is expected to sign a five-year contract thereafter. Manchester United will receive €30 million (£25 million/$32.7 million) from the deal.
Greenwood’s departure will mark the end of his career at Old Trafford, giving him a fresh start in France.
Despite some resistance to the transfer, including Marseille’s mayor calling Greenwood a “disgrace” and urging the club not to proceed, manager Roberto De Zerbi has pledged to support Greenwood if the move goes through. Some fans have also opposed the transfer.
Last season, Greenwood made 36 appearances for Getafe in all competitions, netting 10 goals and providing six assists.
His performances, despite the surrounding controversy, attracted interest from both Lazio and Marseille.
Greenwood is expected to clear the standard medical tests and meet new head coachRoberto De Zerbias he finalizes the deal. Once completed, Greenwood will begin preparations for the new season with Marseille.
Kyle Walker’s estranged wife, Annie Kilner, is reportedly ready to give the England international one last chance to save their marriage.
As reported by The Mirror, the Manchester City defender is on his final warning following multiple cheating scandals involving ex-Lauryn Goodman. To reconcile, the 34-year-old must comply with a strict set of ‘rules and non-negotiables,’ including a commitment to remain faithful.
This comes after Walker’s recent court appearance over childcare and maintenance issues with Goodman, months after it was revealed he had fathered a second child with the influencer and model.
Despite the ongoing drama, Kilner showed her support for Walker in Germany during Euro 2024, where he was seen embracing her and their four children after England matches.
In January, Kilner had declared her separation fromWalker via an Instagram post, saying: “I am posting this in response to growing recent media enquiries about my marriage to Kyle and in an effort to protect my family against the intensity of the media spotlight.
Sadly, after many years of marriage and three wonderful children together; I have decided to take some time away from Kyle.”
However, reconciliation may still be on the table. While Walker’s court battle with Goodman continues, the England defender plans to take a holiday following his participation in the Euros.
He is expected to return for pre-season training with Manchester City in the coming weeks.
Following Southgate’s resignation after England’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain, the search for a new manager has begun. Names like Eddie Howe and Lee Carsley have been floated, but a high-profile candidate is also being considered.
According to The Independent, the FA is willing to wait and see if Guardiola leaves Manchester City in 2025 before appointing a permanent successor to Southgate.
There are even suggestions that an interim manager might be appointed in the meantime. Guardiola is in the final year of his contract and has hinted he might leave at the end of the 2024-25 season.
If the FA opts to delay a permanent appointment while monitoring Guardiola’s situation, they will need an interim manager for England’s matches until next summer.
Carsley, currently managing the Under-21s, would be a strong candidate for the interim role.
Guardiola, 53, is one of the most successful managers in modern football. He has won the Premier League six times, leading Manchester City to the title for the past five consecutive years, and has also lifted the Champions League three times.
For the next 10 months,Guardiola will focus on his club, aiming for success on all fronts as usual for City. England will watch closely to see if he shows any interest in transitioning to international management in the near future.

Auditor-General’s (A-G) report has revealed that theElectricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG)procurement of meters, amounting to over $145 million, breached the Public Procurement Act.
The report further disclosed that ECG failed to fully recover an excess of GH¢53.9 million identified through monitoring. Additionally, ECG did not pursue legal action against customers involved in electricity theft, which could have served as a deterrent to others.
The audit, conducted from August to December 2022, reviewed the period from 2016 to 2021. It covered various ECG locations, including the headquarters, Metering and Technical Services (MTS) Division, the Materials and Depot in the Greater Accra Region, as well as four selected regional offices and nine district offices.
“ECG signed 50 contracts to procure 862,750 meters and its accessories amounting to USD145,010,153.92 over the audit period without adhering to the requirement of the Public Procurement Act.”
“During our audit period, ECH was unable to recover all the GHC 53,988,463.31 that it detected through monitoring, and failed to prosecute customers who were engaged in power theft to serve as a deterrent to others,” the report stated.
In a letter dated June 2, 2023, addressed to the Speaker, Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu advised that ECG strictly adheres to the Public Procurement Act in all its procurement processes to ensure optimal value for money.
Parliament of Ghana has recently established several crucial committees, including the Assurance Committee led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu.
Ablakwa’s committee is mandated with overseeing the fulfillment of government pledges to both Parliament and the public, ensuring accountability and transparency in governance.
Alongside the Assurance Committee, Parliament has formed the Ethics and Standards Committee, chaired by Asokwa MP Patricia Appiagyei, and the Ways and Means Committees.

The Ethics Committee’s role is to monitor the conduct of MPs, enforcing ethical standards to maintain the legislative body’s dignity and reputation. It addresses any misconduct and enforces disciplinary actions as necessary.
Additionally, Parliament has instituted the Economy and Development Committee and the Backbenchers Committee to further enhance legislative oversight and policymaking.
On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Parliament undertook reshuffles within its committees following the adoption of a report outlining the composition of Select and Standing committees.

In a reciprocal move, Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi, previously chairing Local Government, now oversees the Mines and Energy Committee.
Another significant change places Patrick Yaw Boamah, representing Okaikwei Central, as the new chairman of the Finance Committee.

Ghanaian politician Haruna Iddrisu’s club,Steadfast FC, is set to receive €7.9 million following Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s permanent transfer to Leicester City.
The Foxes have triggered the €17 million (£14 million) release clause for the winger, who featured in 60% of the games during their promotion campaign.
Sporting Lisbon initially acquired Issahaku in 2022 for €1.2 million. The net value from the transfer, after deducting the initial amount, is €15.8 million, which will be divided between Steadfast and the Portuguese club.
Issahaku, who significantly boosts the attack, recorded seven goals and 13 assists last season.
His performance improved as the season progressed, culminating in a standout hat-trick during a 5-0 victory over Southampton, highlighting his individual contribution to City’s title success.
Born in Tamale, Ghana, Issahaku began his senior career at Steadfast FC. His impressive form led to a loan to Ghanaian Premier Division side Dreams FC in October 2021.
Recognized as one of Ghana’s top prospects, he maintained his excellent form, leading to his transfer to Sporting Lisbon in April 2022.
He debuted for Sporting Lisbon’s senior team against Rio Ave in August 2022 and participated in their UEFA Champions League campaign that season.
Internationally, Issahaku achieved success in March 2021 by helping Ghana’s Under-20 team win the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations, earning the player of the tournament title.
At the senior level, he has earned 19 caps for Ghana, playing in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the Africa Cup of Nations.
Issahaku will join his Leicester Cityteammates as they gear up for the Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, August 19, 2024.
Four people have been killed in a shooting near a mosque in Muscat, the capital of Oman, according to the country’s police.
A brief statement indicated that several others were injured in the al-Wadi al-Kabir area.
Officers responded to the incident and an investigation is currently underway, as noted in Tuesday’s statement.
While the police did not provide further details, some reports suggest that at least one gunman fired an assault rifle.
“All security measures have been put in place to deal with the situation, and procedures for collecting evidence are being completed as part of the investigation,” the police statement said.
Such violence is uncommon in Oman, a strategically located nation at the entrance to the Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula, with a predominantly Muslim population.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame is poised to extend his 24-year rule by another five years with a landslide victory, as most of the votes from Monday’s election have been counted.
Partial results announced by the electoral commission show that he has 99.15% of the vote so far, with about 79% of ballots counted.
The 66-year-old faced no significant opposition, with prominent figures barred from running. His two challengers collectively garnered less than 1% of the vote.
Mr. Kagame expressed gratitude to Rwandans for their trust during an address at his Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) party headquarters.
“These are not just figures, even if it were 100%, these are not just numbers. [They] show trust, and that is what is most important,” Mr Kagame said.
His opponents – environmentalist Frank Habineza and journalist and author Philippe Mpayimana – have 0.53% and 0.32%, respectively.
The full provisional results are expected by July 20, with the final results to be released by July 27.
These results are unsurprising, reflecting the 2017 election in which the same candidates competed, and Mr. Kagame won with 98.8% of the vote.
At least three candidates were disqualified from running, including Diane Rwigara, a vocal critic of Mr. Kagame.
The electoral commission reports that 98% of the over 9.5 million eligible voters participated in the elections.
Voters were choosing a president and 53 legislators.
Elections for 27 special seats designated for women, young people, and people with disabilities are scheduled for Tuesday.
Mr. Kagame has been Rwanda’s de facto leader since the end of the 1994 genocide and has served as president since 2000.
While rights groups accuse him of restricting freedoms, his supporters credit him with economic growth and reducing ethnic divisions.

“These possessions remind me of my achievements. This shoe cost me £3,000. I also own a Rolls Royce Phantom, which cost $295,000, along with everything else I have purchased, and I am enjoying it.
“As a successful man and youth in today’s world, it’s important to have a G-Wagon, so I have one. This is my living room, where I spend most of my time, including sleeping and other activities.
It features a sofa chair, television, and other amenities,” he stated in a video shared by Bola Ray on X.
It is important to highlight that Adebayor is also dedicated to philanthropic efforts, aiming to support vulnerable individuals and improve their quality of life.
Adebayor has earned a reputation as one of Africa’s top footballers, with a career that includes playing for prestigious European clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid.
Kylian Mbappe made his debutappearance at the Santiago Bernabeu as a Real Madrid player, expressing that joining the club is a “dream come true.” The stadium was filled with enthusiastic Blancos supporters eager to witness the unveiling of the new ‘Galactico’.
After a prolonged anticipation, Mbappe has finally made the switch from Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent. Despite facing challenges with France during Euro 2024, including a broken nose, Mbappe appeared joyful while greeting Real Madrid fans.
The event was enhanced by the unexpected presence of fellow Frenchman and Real Madrid legend, Zinedine Zidane, who joined the welcoming festivities.
With a raucous atmosphere being generated at the Bernabeu, Mbappe told those in the crowd: “Hello everyone. I’ll try to speak in Spanish. It’s incredible to be here. I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid for years. This dream has come true today, I am a particularly happy young man.
I would like to thank Mr. President Florentino Perez, who welcomed me warmly from the first day. There have been many twists and turns but here I am. I would also like to thank all the people who worked to get me here. We succeeded! I am a Real Madrid player! I see my family happy and my mother crying.
“It’s an incredible day for me. Since I was a child, I had only one dream, and that was to be here. It means a lot to me to be here. Thanks to the Real fans who have been showering me with love for years.
I have another dream now, and that is to live up to the history of this club, the best in the world. I’m going to give it my all for this club.
To all the children here, know that I was like you; I had a dream and I made it come true. With determination, you can achieve anything you want. This is so huge for me. I am proud to be here. I am not going to continue talking because otherwise I will shed tears. Uno, dos, tres: Hala Madrid!”
Mbappe has adopted the No. 9 jersey at Madrid, while Vinicius Junior has taken over the No. 7 shirt. He aims to make an immediate impact with the La Liga and Champions League champions, having been unable to join France’s Olympic squad during the Paris Games.
Jadon Sancho is poised to begin anew at Manchester United, following a reconciliation with manager Erik ten Hag. The 24-year-old winger’s tenure at United had been uncertain after a turbulent period that saw him loaned back to Borussia Dortmund last season.
Sancho had fallen out publicly with Ten Hag in September, with the manager criticizing his training performances, a claim Sancho disputed vehemently on social media.
His refusal to apologize for his comments led to him being isolated from the first-team squad and training alone before returning to Dortmund in January.
However, recent candid discussions at United’s Carrington training ground have paved the way for Sancho to rejoin first-team training.
These talks appear to have resolved the tensions between Sancho and Ten Hag, allowing them to move forward positively as they prepare for the upcoming season.
While Ten Hag remained cautious about discussing Sancho’s long-term prospects at the club, he acknowledged that their relationship has been repaired.
“As we said, we draw the line. Manchester United need good players and Jadon is a good player. We have drawn that line and we move on,” Ten Hag remarked, signalling a fresh chapter for the winger.
During his loan stint at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho rediscovered some of his top form, contributing three goals and as many assists in 21 appearances across all competitions, notably aiding their journey to the Champions League final.
Despite this, the Bundesliga club has not tabled a formal offer for the English forward and has reassigned Sancho’s No. 10 jersey to Julian Brandt, signaling they are not considering a permanent transfer.
While Sancho has also been linked with a move to Juventus, recent remarks from Ten Hag indicate he will have the opportunity to reaffirm his importance at United.
After missing their initial pre-season friendly against Rosenborg, the forward is expected to be ready for their upcoming match against Rangers on July 20.
English midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has reassured England fans that the Three Lions “will be back” following their heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

The Manchester United teenager, who impressed during the tournament, was deeply affected by the loss but expressed optimism in a social media post, promising that England will make a strong comeback in future attempts to win the tournament.

Arsenal’s preseason schedule includes a tour of the United States, where they will play friendly matches against Manchester United and Liverpool.
This tour is set to start on July 24, 2024, and will conclude on July 31, 2024.

Ghanaian athletes set to compete in theParis 2024 Olympic Gamesare voicing their concerns over unpaid allowances from previous competitions.
These athletes, who earned medals at events like the World Relay Championships in the Bahamas and the African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon, have not received the promised payments.
Speaking anonymously to Graphic Sports, they urged the government to expedite the disbursement of these funds to support their preparations for the upcoming Olympics.
“This issue is becoming more common. We received per diem during the African Games last June, but we have not received any allowances for competing in the AAC.
We have returned home empty-handed with bills to pay, especially for those of us living abroad. We do not have Cedi bank accounts, so receiving cheques in the local currency creates problems.
We need to authorise family members to handle the cheques, convert the money, and send it to us. By the time we receive it, we lose a lot due to transfers and bank charges,” they explained, according to myjoyonline.com.
In response to these claims, Ghana Athletics Association President Bawa Fuseini acknowledged the delay in payments but assured that the organisation is actively working to resolve the issue promptly.
“Yes, there are outstanding allowances. I have informed the International Games Committee of the ministry that bonuses for medals at the AAC should be treated similarly to those at AFCON. We are advocating for bonuses as outlined in our AAC budget,” he told Graphic Sports.
The nine athletes set to represent Ghana at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games include Abdul R. Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, Edwin Gadayi, Joselle Mensah, Isaac Botsio, Fuseini Ibrahim, and Rose Yeboah. The games are scheduled to occur from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

In a statement, the former Middlesbrough manager expressed, “It’s time for change and for a new chapter.”

“After 102 games and almost eight years in charge, Gareth Southgate has announced he is to leave his role as manager of the Three Lions,” the statement reads.
Gareth Southgate became the head coach of the England national team in 2016 after a successful stint with the U21 team from 2013 to 2016.
During his eight-year leadership, he guided England to a fourth-place finish at the World Cup, their best performance since 1990, and reached the finals of the Euros twice consecutively.
He came close to victory in the 2020 Euros but lost to Italy on penalties. His second final defeat occurred against Spain on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

“As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all.
“But it’s time for change, and for a new chapter. Sunday’s final in Berlin against Spain was my final game as England manager.
“I joined the FA in 2011, determined to improve English football. In that time, including eight years as England men’s manager, I have been supported by some brilliant people who have my heartfelt thanks.
“I could not have had anyone better alongside me than Steve Holland. He is one of the most talented coaches of his generation, and has been immense.
“I have had the privilege of leading a large group of players in 102 games. Every one of them has been proud to wear the three lions on their shirts, and they have been a credit to their country in so many ways.
“The squad we took to Germany is full of exciting young talent and they can win the trophy we all dream of.
I am so proud of them, and I hope we get behind the players and the team atSt. George’s Park andthe FA who strive every day to improve English football, and understand the power football has to drive positive change.
“My special thanks go to the backroom staff who have provided the players and me with unstinting support over the last eight years. Their hard work and commitment inspire me every day, and I am so grateful to them—the brilliant ‘team behind the team’.
“We have the best fans in the world, and their support has meant the world to me. I’m an England fan and I always will be.
“I look forward to watching and celebrating as the players go on to create more special memories and to connect and inspire the nation as we know they can.

National Executive Council (NEC) of theJudicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG)has announced that all staff of the Judicial Service are to resume work on Tuesday, July 16. This decision follows the suspension of the strike by organized labor.
The suspension was announced by the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Yaw Baah, during a news conference in Accra on Monday, July 15.
Organized labor had previously declared an indefinite strike in response to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT)’s plan to sell 60 percent of its shares in several hotels.
“On Friday, July 12, 2024, organised labour called on all workers to join an indefinite strike starting today, Monday, July 15, 2024, to back our demand for the termination of the process towards the stake of 60 SSNIT shares in the four hotels.
In a letter dated July 12, 2024, SSNIT notified organized labor that it had canceled the planned sale of 60% of its shares in the hotels.
“At an emergency meeting held today, July 15, 2024, organised labour has decided to call off the strike,” Dr Yaw Baah said.
JUSAG, in a statement, said, “Having had our demands met by the Board of SSNIT, organised labour decided to call off the ongoing strike. ALL workers are, therefore, directed to report to work tomorrow, Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Consequently, the National Executive Council (NEC) of JUSAG wishes to inform all staff of the Judicial Service to resume work tomorrow.
“Leadership of Organised Labour will engage the Board of SSNIT to resolve any other outstanding issues regarding the management of the Trust.
We wish to express our gratitude to the staff of the Judicial Service and the workers of Ghana for supporting our collective resolve to safeguard our retirement incomes.”

Operative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),James Agbey, responded sharply to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that the NDC will not tolerate any attempts to manipulate the 2024 general elections if that is the NPP’s intention.
His remarks were prompted by statements made by Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, who asserted that the NPP has numerous strategies to secure victory in this year’s elections.
Speaking at the outdooring of the running mate of the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi on Thursday, July 9, Chairman Wontumi said, “They can’t stop us.
2008, they delayed us. 2024 elections, NDC, you cannot stop us. We are winning. Tell the NDC that we have one million ways to win the 2024 elections and we are ready.”
But in a statement, James Agbey said, “We are on a rescue mission to rescue Ghana from the claws of Akufo-Addo. We are ready to put an end to this opportunistic appropriation.
“The truth is, there would be dire consequences if Wontumi and his likes make any wrong move ahead of the 2024 general elections.”
Below is his full statement…
For Immediate Release
Monday, 15th 15, 2024
Dare us, and you will be first to go down—NDC Operative warns Wuntumi
Over the last couple of months, we’ve been saddled with news about stalwarts of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) making claims to the effect that power won’t change hands in the 2024 elections.
These NPP elements have on several occasions in public platforms made the point that they will use every dubious means to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Just last week at an outdoring event for Bawumia’s running-mate, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Wontumi made the point that the NPP have several ways of winning the 2024 elections, and that they will win by hook or crook.
Wontumi while threatening the NDC said, “They can’t stop us. 2008 they delayed us. 2024 elections, NDC you cannot stop us. We are winning. Tell the NDC that we have one million ways to win 2024 elections and we are ready.”
As an operative, who served the party in the Greater Accra Region as Director of Security operations in 2020, and currently serving as an operative, I have done an analysis of Wontumi’s threat and deeper scrutiny of the threat reveals that the NPP intends to use the Defence Forces of Ghana to unleash violence on the Ghanaian.
In many ways, this obviously is more likely strong evidence that the NPP continue to muddy the waters or to put it more plainly deflect attention from their failures and misdemeanours.
The NPP stalwarts are talking tough because they care very little about the consequences of their actions.
I recall how the NPP in recent times was accused of breeding and arming thugs as well as fake security operatives to harass and attack Ghanaians in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections in 2020.
We have seen how political violence has thrown the sociopolitical landscape of so many countries into total chaos.
Even in our recent past here in Ghana, we have seen how violence almost swallowed us in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, and the ugly situation in the 2020 general elections, where five (5) innocent citizens lost their lives in Techiman South.
At this juncture, let me sound a note of caution to all concerned, and warn that we’re ready to use legitimate force and every means under the sun to get Wontumi and his like minds out of the way, and restore dignity and respect to the good people of Ghana.
If they have one million ways to win, we also have two million ways to bring them down.
This year’s election is totally different from the 2020 one, where Akufo-Addo was allowed to have his way.
We are on a rescue mission to rescue Ghana from the claws of Akufo-Addo. We are ready to put an end to this opportunistic appropriation.
The truth is, there would be dire consequences if Wontumi and his likes make any wrong move ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Let it also be on record that whether the NPP like it or not, the NDC under president Mahama is surely taking over power in 2024.
For emphasis, majority of Ghanaians are insisting on the return of the NDC to government in 2024, and there’s nothing that is going to stop the momentum that’s building in that regard.
The NPP dare not connive with rogue elements in the armed forces to disrupt the 2024 polls.
As a longstanding Operative for the NDC, I can boldly speak of our experiences and know-how, and our resilience to wade off any NPP undemocratic tendencies.
The truth is, there would be dire consequences if the Nitiwul and his likes make any wrong move ahead of the 2024 general elections. In fact, Nitiwul will be first to go down if he dare orchestrate election rigging and violence in the forthcoming general election.
Some of us are ready and willing to defend our democracy. We are ready to face off with the NPP in the event that they use the armed forces to destabilise 2024 elections.
We know Wontumi’s antics. He is clearly beating the war drum, and he should be ready to dance to the tune of his own music.
Residents of Wa, the capital of the Upper West region, are considering banning politicians from campaigning in their area if immediate measures are not taken to stop the ongoing killings of innocent citizens.
The latest incident occurred early on Monday, July 15, 2024, where a man in his late thirties, identified as a driver’s mate, was found murdered near a warehouse where he had been unloading goods.
According to reports, residents expressed deep concerns about the persistent violence and stated they were living in constant fear.
They emphasised their reluctance to engage with politicians until effective solutions are implemented to address the escalating menace.
This recent fatality marks the 14th victim believed to have been brutally murdered by a suspected syndicate operating in Wa since 2022.
Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has defended the proposed Legislative Instrument (L.I) that would grant MPs and judges the authority to use sirens and drive without speed limits.
The amendment to the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180), recently presented in Parliament, has faced criticism from the public.
Speaking to the press at Parliament, Appiah-Kubi, a member of the subsidiary legislation committee, justified the amendment by stating it aims to address the urgent needs of MPs in carrying out their duties.
“We have witnessed situations where some members of parliament, even state ministers and even some judges have been arrested on the road because they are trying to meet their work schedule
And you go to the police, you go to the Attorney General, and you go to the IGP. He says that I implement the law as given and that I cannot help the situation because the law says that
“So the remedy is to amend the law to make it lawful for people like that to be able to have special access where necessary,” he said
He emphasised that these privileges would be used responsibly and argued against the negative portrayal of MPs, labelling it unjust.
“And indeed, when you are driving on the road in the early hours of the day or late hours of the day, you don’t need any sirens or you don’t need any special access. It is when there is congestion on the road and there is also the need for you to meet deadlines by way of time, that need will arise.
““And when it does arise, it is to do your assigned duty for Mother Ghana. So I don’t see why we have to impugn hatred, impugn jealousy, impugn mistrust into the provision. It is omnibus and it covers a lot of institutions, so attempts to single out one particular institution for rebuke is not fair” he fumed.
Former Ghanaian national women’s team goalkeeper, Nana Ama Asantewaa, celebrated her marriage to Ghanaian coach Kofi Opokuin a beautiful wedding ceremony held last weekend on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
The event was attended by friends and well-wishers of the newlywed couple, marking a heartwarming moment for all.
Nana Ama Asantewaa served as the goalkeeper for the Black Queens from 2016 to 2018, making notable appearances in two Women’s AFCON tournaments.
She was the starting goalkeeper in several matches during the 2016 Women’s AFCON and contributed to Ghana’s team during the 2018 edition hosted in Ghana.
Currently playing for Police Ladies FC, Nana Ama Asantewaa’s husband, Kofi Opoku, has been actively involved in Ghanaian football.
He has served as a technical member of the Ghana Football Association, participating in various youth national team tournaments.
Kofi Opoku also plays a pivotal role atAccra Shooting Stars and was instrumental in their match against Borussia Dortmund Legends (BVB) in 2022.
Rwandans headed to the polls on Monday to elect their next president, with incumbent Paul Kagame widelyanticipated to secure a fourth term, continuing his nearly 25-year tenure in the East African nation.
His challengers, Frank Habineza from the Democratic Green Party and independent Philippe Mpayimana, expressed hopes of making some progress, but analysts and rights groups predicted a decisive victory for Kagame.
Kagame, who has secured over 93% of the vote in the past three elections, has been lauded by Western and regional leaders for his role in ending the 1994 genocide in Rwanda and for the country’s economic development.
However, campaign groups like Human Rights Watch have accused his administration of repressing journalists, opposition members, and civil society groups ahead of the vote.
Kagame has dismissed these accusations, positioning himself as the candidate for stability.
His reelection could indicate a degree of political stability for his part of a divided region, but it will also bring ongoing global scrutiny due to allegations of human rights abuses and supporting rebels in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo, charges he has denied.
At the Rwandexco polling centre in Kigali, Barimukije Pheneas expressed his intent to vote for the 66-year-old incumbent.
“We voted smoothly without any crowding, and we are happy,” Pheneas said. “I voted for Paul Kagame because he has achieved a lot for us; he has united us.”
Motorcycle taxi driver Karangwa Vedaste said the voting process was calm and peaceful, but declined to say who he had chosen.
“I voted for a leader I trust. The one I voted for is a secret in my heart. We will share it when he wins,” Vedaste said.
The electoral commission disqualified eight candidates, including some of Kagame’s most outspoken critics, citing reasons such as incomplete or missing registration documents.
Frank Habineza, the Democratic Green Party candidate whose deputy was found dead and nearly beheaded before the 2010 election, acknowledged signs of progress despite the disqualifications.
“We toured the entire country, and wherever we went, people welcomed us warmly. They gave us gifts and assured us they would vote for us,” Habineza said after voting.
“We have to maintain this momentum and not regress,” he added. “We are confident, each of us is confident, it’s half and half,” independent presidential candidate Mpayimana told journalists after casting his vote.
The U.S. State Department says on its website thatRwanda has made“progress in developing national and local government institutions, economic development, maintaining security and promoting reconciliation.”
It also says it backs Rwanda’s efforts to “increase democratic participation and enhance respect for civil and political rights”. Rwandans are also voting on Monday for members of the lower house of parliament and provisional results are expected by July 20. Polling stations are open until 1500 local time (1300 GMT).
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has surprised many Nigerians by revealing that he does not own a house outside the country. Dangote stated that he only has two homes, one in his hometown of Kano and another in Lagos. When visiting Abuja, he stays in a rented apartment.
In January, Forbes magazine named Dangote Africa’s richest man for the 13th consecutive year, despite Nigeria’s economic challenges.
Over the past year, his net worth increased by $400 million, reaching $13.9 billion (£10.7 billion).
At 66, Dangote built his wealth through his ventures in cement and sugar. Last year, he launched an oil refinery in Lagos, Nigeria’s economic centre.
He made these remarks to journalists at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery on Sunday.
Dangote’s comments have raised eyebrows in a country where the affluent often indulge in lavish lifestyles, with many owning properties in cities like London, Dubai, and Atlanta.
His revelation has sparked diverse reactions on social media. Some view his decision as a shrewd business move, noting that renting can be more cost-effective than buying. For Dangote, the choice stems from a desire to see Nigeria prosper.
“The reason I don’t have a London or America house is solely because I wanted to focus on industrialization in Nigeria,” he said.
“I am very passionate about the Nigeria dream and apart from my Lagos house, I have another one in my home state, Kano, and a rented one in Abuja.
“If I have houses all over America and Co., I would not be able to concentrate and build something for my people.”
Mr. Dangote is known for owning an opulent residence in Lagos’ exclusive Banana Island, a neighbourhood home to many high-profile Nigerians.
In contrast, his house in Kano, his home state, is modest and was used to receive guests following the death of his brother, Sani Dangote, in 2021.
Public affairs analyst Sani Bala praised Mr. Dangote, stating that he was setting a commendable example.
“Nigerians need to be re-oriented to understand that owning several mansions is not an achievement when the money would be needed elsewhere.
“Dangote said he sold his house in London in 1996 and I am sure monies realised from the sale was put back into his business; that is the way to go.”
Former Asante Kotoko assistant coach and current Northern City boss, Abdulai Gazale, has revealed that a conflict with his former boss, Prosper Narteh Ogum, led to his departure.
Upon Ogum’s return for his second tenure, he expressed an inability to continue working with Gazale for unspecified reasons.
Gazale initially joined the Porcupine Warriors in 2019 as an assistant coach to Maxwell Konadu. However, following Konadu’s departure, Gazale was left to manage the club’s youth team.
Over the years, he occasionally assisted the first team, notably serving as the interim coach two seasons ago after the dismissal of Burkinabe coach Seydou Zerbo.
Gazale has now shed light on the training ground incident with Ogum that prompted him to step down from his position before the start of the previous season.
“Initially, Ogum never doubted my capability, but at a point, some of the players told me that any time we are in training and I correct a mistake in them, Ogum’s posture doesn’t look good.
The senior players told me this, but I told them I had not been observing that. Remember, I had worked with some of the players under Maxwell, Smith, and Barreto, and they were used to me,” Gazale told Tamale-based Sagani TV.
“It went on for a long time, and I finally noticed it. It came to a point that if Coach Ogum and the other assistants were planning a training program, they would not even allow me to see what was going on.
“From then on, I called for a meeting with Nana Yaw Amponsah, saying that I wanted to step down and didn’t want to be part of the team anymore.
Nana Yaw Amponsah declined my request. It continued, and before Ogum could tell Nana Yaw that he couldn’t work with me anymore, I had already stopped going for training.”
The trial of former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi and another defendant has been postponed by the High Court in Accra to October 16, 2024. They face charges of fraud and corruption stemming from investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ 2018 undercover video expose titled #12#.
Both Nyantakyi and Abdulai Alhassan, former Northern Regional GFA President, have pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Presiding over the case, Justice Marie-Louise Simmons adjourned proceedings pending the resolution of two appeals lodged by both the prosecution and the defense at the Court of Appeal.
The prosecution is appealing the High Court’s directive for Anas to reveal his identity to Nyantakyi in private before testifying in open court while masked. Nyantakyi’s legal team has also filed an appeal.
Justice Simmons had previously stated, “If by April, no meaningful steps have been taken by the prosecution, Nyantakyi would be discharged.”
In June 2018, Anas released a video investigation revealing former GFA President Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi and other football administrators compromising the integrity of the sport.
Following the release, Mr. Nyantakyi resigned from his positions at the GFA, CAF, and FIFA. He was initially banned for life from football, but the ban was later reduced to 15 years.
Mr. Nyantakyi has claimed that Anas, through his lawyers, demanded $150,000 to suppress the story, but he could only provide $100,000. He stated that Anas deemed the amount insufficient, leading to the video’s release.
“After the video came out, I asked for a refund and even the refund was done in pieces. Today, they would bring $20,000, and the next day another $10,000. They were giving me stories, but eventually I got everything back,” he said.
In a statement on social media, Anas refuted the allegations, emphasizing that the primary mission of his investigative network, Tiger Eye, is to expose and combat corruption. He asserted that the idea of shielding corrupt individuals is utterly absurd, considering the significant resources and efforts devoted to producing such exposés.
“Tiger Eye P.I. unequivocally asserts that any purported criminal arrangement between Mr Nyantakyi and any alleged lawyer remains solely between Mr Nyantakyi and the purported recipient,” it said.
“Tiger Eye P.I. firmly denies any involvement or knowledge of such activities. Should Mr Nyantakyi’s claims hold substance, we challenge him to pursue legal action against Lawyer Kwame Gyan, including lodging a petition with the General Legal Council, to substantiate his allegations,” it added.
Anas also stated that Mr. Nyantakyi, by his own admission, was both a bribe-giver and a bribe-taker, having attempted to bribe his way out of a thorough investigation into his conduct. Consequently, Anas argued that Nyantakyi’s self-confessed bribery attempt justified the life ban from participating in any football-related activities at both national and international levels, as stipulated by the FIFA Code of Ethics (FCE).
“It is noted that Mr Nyantakyi appears to be endeavouring to restore his credibility, presumably with aspirations to contest as a parliamentary candidate for the Ejisu Constituency under the New Patriotic Party,” the statement said.
“The decision regarding Mr Nyantakyi’s eligibility rests with the NPP and the constituents of Ejisu.
Nonetheless, it’s imperative to emphasise that Tiger Eye P.I. conducted a thorough investigation, leading to Mr Nyantakyi’s conviction and subsequent ban from football activities due to bribery, conflict of interest,” it added.

“The legacy media is a pure propaganda machine. 𝕏 is the voice of the people” the tweet read.
Bridget in reaction slammed the X owner for his insincerity and pretense schooling him over how news is reported that is citing how headlines are changed as more updates evolve with time.
“You are disingenuous. These were the headlines when the initial report came and no one knew it was gunshot. They changed the headlines as more updates came in but you conveniently promoted the first reports.
That’s how media works: headlines change as story develop and more update come in. “Loud noise progressed to gunshots and to assassination attempts” she tweeted.
