ECOWAS lifts sanctions on Guinea and Niger

In the aftermath of an extraordinary summit of ECOWAS heads of state in Abuja, Nigeria, the regional bloc announced the lifting of sanctions imposed on Guinea and Niger. This decision comes after similar action was taken regarding military-led Niger the day before.

Additionally, ECOWAS lifted restrictions on the recruitment of citizens from Mali to professional positions within its institutions. These sanctions were initially imposed on Niger, Guinea, Mali, and Burkina Faso due to military coups in those countries between 2020 and last year.

In a statement on Saturday, ECOWAS instructed the president of the commission to invite all four transitional member states to participate in technical, consultative, and security-related meetings.

Furthermore, ECOWAS urged Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to reconsider their decision to withdraw from the organization.

During the summit, ECOWAS heads of state also ordered the reopening of land borders with Niger and lifted asset freezes against Niger’s ruling generals on humanitarian grounds.

Analysts interpret these decisions as ECOWAS’s commitment to ensuring that junta-led nations remain members of the organization.

Renowned Ghanaian entertainment journalist Arnold Asamoah Baidoo and multi-award-winning musician Shatta Wale have reignited their ongoing feud online.

The tension between the two personalities has been palpable for some time, with each quick to attack the other at any given opportunity.

Their latest clash stemmed from comments made by Arnold Asamoah Baidoo regarding the failure of Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s team to disclose the unsuccessful outcome of her Guinness World Record attempt to break the longest singing marathon by an individual.

Arnold criticized Afua’s team for withholding this information despite being aware of the public’s anticipation for the outcome.

He labeled their actions as deceitful and asserted that no reputable brand would associate with someone who displays such dishonesty.

Celebrities living lavishly are few – Okyeame Kwame on EOCO’s auditing of celebrity lifestyles

Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame has responded to the announcement made by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) regarding the auditing of the lifestyles of celebrities and other individuals.

This move comes after Hajia4Real admitted guilt to charges related to a $2 million romance scam. EOCO stated their intention to scrutinize the lifestyles of celebrities and individuals suspected of acquiring wealth through unjust means.

“We are leading the charge by ourselves, making certain proposals for the amendment of the law to align with international standards. This ensures that any gaps in your financial profile are substantiated by your earnings.

“Any disparities must be clarified to law enforcement, and the burden of proof rests on the individual to explain the origin of those resources,” the head of Administration and Investigations at EOCO, Edward Cudjoe disclosed to JoyNews in an interview.

Reacting to this Okyeame Kwame said celebrities are not living lavish lifestyles like politicians.

“I have been in the celebrity space for 20 something years, I do not think they will find any artiste who are “criminals” or many celebs and film makers because these people are suffering. It is very difficult to be in this industry as an influencer or artiste and then just by that be able to survive. I have not seen celebrities in Ferraris or Maybachs or Porsche cars or multimillion dollar mansions. Where are they? Show me one.

“However, the people that I have seen living lavishly are politicians. I have seen civil servants who make maybe ₵14000 a month and driving S-class,” he told Berla Mundi on TV3’s New Day.

“They are going to start investigating celebrities and in less than 30 days, they will be done because it is obvious that there are no or very few celebrities who are enjoying unwarranted wealth,” Okyeame Kwame added.

  • Ghana struggles to bridge climate finance gap for agricultural sector

Ghana struggles to bridge climate finance gap for agricultural sector

Ghana’s efforts to combat the escalating impacts of climate change on its agricultural industry face a significant hurdle due to a widening climate finance deficit estimated at approximately US$14.25 billion annually.

The revelation, brought to light by Dr. Victor Antwi, Chief of Party for the Feed the Future Ghana Mobilizing Finance in Agriculture (MFA) Activity, raises concerns about the nation’s capacity to implement robust measures to safeguard its agricultural sector against the adverse effects of climate change.

Citing research conducted by Pangea Global Ventures, which indicates that only a mere five percent of Ghana’s annual US$15 billion climate finance requirements are met, Dr. Antwi underscored the urgency of the situation.

He emphasized the need for widespread dissemination of information regarding the impacts of climate change on Ghana’s agriculture and other economic sectors.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of climate finance providers sharing best practices to facilitate replication.

Speaking at the commencement of a three-day USAID Climate Finance Conference in Accra, Dr. Antwi highlighted the significant risks faced by the agricultural sector due to the worsening impacts of climate change, including increased temperatures, shifting precipitation patterns, and more frequent extreme weather events.

These factors pose a threat to global food security and the livelihoods of farmers worldwide, particularly if agricultural systems fail to become more resilient.

Furthermore, Dr. Antwi identified major barriers hindering the flow of climate finance towards building resilience in agriculture, ranging from challenges in designing bankable projects to difficulties faced by smallholder farmers in accessing finance.

He emphasized that investments are not occurring at the necessary pace and scale to address these challenges.

The adverse impacts of rising temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns, and extreme weather conditions have led to decreased yields for rain-fed farmers, with significant implications for Ghana’s economy, food security, and the livelihoods of its citizens.

To address these challenges, he called on stakeholders to adopt an integrated approach to climate finance and action on agriculture. “We need to adapt to Ghana’s agricultural systems to climate change impacts, adopt mitigation measures to reduce emissions from the sector and build resilience for the future.”

The Feed the Future Ghana Mobilizing Finance in Agriculture (MFA) Activity, in partnership with Policy LINK, Market Systems and Resilience, and Africa Trade and Investment Activities, is hosting the USAID Climate Finance Conference under the theme ‘Climate Financing in Ghana: Mobilizing Resources for Adaptation and Mitigation’.

Bringing together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, as well as development partners, the three-day event aims to facilitate knowledge-sharing on climate action, resources, lessons learned, and best practices in the agriculture finance sector.

It serves as a platform for strategizing on attracting investment to manage climate risks effectively and mitigate their effects.

Plenary presentations during the conference will cover topics such as the global climate financing landscape, carbon markets, finance policies, programs, and lessons for improving intervention design by governments and development partners.

The USAID-supported Feed the Future Ghana Mobilizing Finance in Agriculture has secured approximately US$234.44 million between October 2020 and January 2024. A significant portion of this funding has already benefited smallholder farmers and microentrepreneurs.

Initiatives like the US$2.77 million COVID-19 Relief and Resilience Challenge Fund have particularly supported women smallholder farmers, highlighting USAID’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive climate finance.

Kimberly Anne Rosen, the Mission Director of USAID-Ghana, emphasized the importance of responding adequately to the climate crisis to protect valuable natural resources and provide economic opportunities for vulnerable populations globally.

While recognizing Ghana’s leadership in combating climate change and its receipt of payments from the World Bank trust fund, Rosen noted that the country still lacks the resources to meet its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Climate Agreement. She reiterated USAID’s commitment to advancing ambitious actions to address the climate crisis.

You’re like a slave…indeed MPs are suffering – Charles Owusu

An Independent parliamentary candidate for Nkoranza North, Charles Owusu, echoes the sentiment that being a Member of Parliament (MP) is not as glamorous as it may seem.

He references the recent remarks made by the First Deputy Speaker in Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, who highlighted the financial strain MPs often face.

Owusu agrees, emphasizing that MPs are burdened with excessive expectations from their constituents, leading them to feel like slaves unable to accommodate everyone’s needs.

“You have become like a slave that you endure anything someone is doing. Chairman the sad thing is that you that have showe up for it, you are the one they worry more than the one sitting on the chair. So for everything you have to do your best. The MPs are suffering. Sometimes lets have mercy on them.”

Weeks ago, the first deputy speaker in Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, highlighted the resource constraints within Parliament, noting that MPs often serve as benefactors to their communities, tackling a multitude of challenges within their constituencies.

His remarks follow the departure of certain MPs from the New Patriotic Party after the recent parliamentary primaries.

Osei Owusu remains hopeful that those MPs who lost in the primaries will adhere to the party’s directives and continue to actively engage in parliamentary proceedings.

“Parliament is a poor place. You spend all the money, you are community ATM, you are the financier for all party activity. You are the social burden, you carry all the social burdens of the community so you can’t save anything.”

He continued that “Your emoluments is for the whole community so you are distressed from the beginning till the time of the primaries. Many of my colleagues who lost actually took loans to contest and they’ve lost. Some mortgage their properties. It is common knowledge that within one year when they leave Parliament they can’t pay hospital bills. That is why Parliament has made it a condition to support former Members of Parliament.”

  • Cocoa output plummets 40%, fueling record-high prices in 2023/24

Cocoa output plummets 40%, fueling record-high prices in 2023/24

Sources from Ghana’s cocoa sector regulator, COCOBOD, indicate that the anticipated cocoa output for the 2023/24 season is likely to significantly miss expectations, with an estimated 40 percent shortfall from the target of 820,000 metric tons.

Contributing factors to this decline include adverse weather conditions, smuggling activities, illegal gold mining, and the prevalence of swollen shoot disease.

Expressing concerns over the production shortfall, the first source informed Reuters that strong seasonal winds and insufficient rainfall have worsened the situation, with the current output forecasted to be around 500,000 tons for the season.

Addressing the challenges, the source noted, ‘Unfortunately, the cause of the decline could not be remedied immediately through human intervention.’

In the preceding 2022/23 season, COCOBOD reported a loss of approximately 150,000 tons of cocoa attributed to smuggling and illegal gold mining, locally referred to as galamsey. Additionally, the regulator revealed earlier this month that the cocoa swollen shoot virus had ravaged around 500,000 hectares of cocoa farmlands.

Efforts to address these production challenges are underway, according to the first source, who cited ongoing farm rehabilitation projects, the commencement of the rainy season, and collaborative endeavors with security agencies to combat smuggling activities.

Despite the current challenges, the second source maintains optimism regarding Ghana’s potential for production recovery. However, COCOBOD did not provide comment on the matter.

The decrease in cocoa production from both Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire, alongside mounting deficits, has propelled global cocoa prices to unprecedented levels.

Traders are grappling with heightened demand and pricing volatility, with London cocoa futures surpassing the psychological threshold of £5,000 and New York cocoa breaching the $6,000 mark.

The surge in cocoa prices is starting to impact retail markets, with chocolate manufacturers like Hershey anticipating a slowdown in consumer demand due to rising costs.

Samuel Adimado, president of Ghana’s cocoa buyers group, described the current production forecast as ‘devastating,’ noting that member firms are adjusting their operations to remain viable amid these challenges.

Highlighting the alarming trend, the first source emphasized that escalating global cocoa prices have incentivized smuggling activities, potentially leading to even greater losses in the current season.

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has once again explained why he as developed some pain towards some of his allies in the aftermath of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries in November 2023, in which he participated.

Agyapong clarified that his dissatisfaction stems not from the primary election results but from the actions of individuals he considered friends.

He lamented that these individuals not only betrayed him but also spread malicious remarks about him.

During an interview on the KSM show on Friday, February 23, 2024, the Assin Central legislator expressed his hurt, particularly by some NPP MPs, and stated that he would never forgive them for their actions.

“It is not every MP who didn’t vote for me that I’m angry at. No! But the very people who were my friends that I have helped to bring to parliament. It is not about the betrayal but the bad things that they said about me. That is where I have a problem.

“So, who says I am not bitter, I’m bitter. I am bitter not because the vice president won, I’m bitter because of the people that I have helped… If you are not going to vote for me, no problem; but the insults, I can’t forgive them,” he said.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong came in second with 71,996 votes, accounting for 35.52% of the valid votes. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto garnered 1,459 votes, while Francis Addai-Nimoh received 781 votes.

Ken Agyapong on why he’s uninterested in being Bawumia’s running mate

In that same interview, Ken Agyapong stated that, due to his [Agyapong] nature, he would decline Dr. Bawumia’s offer to be his running mate in the 2024 presidential contest.

Asked by Kwaku Sintim-Misa, the host of the KSM show, whether he would accept an offer by Dr Bawumia to become his running mate for the 2024 polls, Ken Agyapong retorted, “No, I wouldn’t do it”.

“To tell you the truth, why I cannot be a vice president is that I would speak my mind,” he explained.

He then referenced Bawumia’s ‘driver-mate’ analogy, stating firmly, “I am not going to be the mate,” as he shook his head.

  • My journey to parliament has been challenging but am grateful to all – Afenyo-Markin

My journey to parliament has been challenging but am grateful to all – Afenyo-Markin

The recently appointed Majority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has lavished praise on the notable individuals who have contributed to his remarkable journey.

During his acceptance speech on Friday, February 22, 2024, on the floor of Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the newly appointed Majority Leader, stressed how he would not be in this position now were it not for the support he received during his political career.

“I never saw this day coming. I want to express my profound gratitude to everyone who has been supportive through my political journey” he stated.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin added that he had ups and downs during his political career and that he might have given up if not for the support and guidance of certain individuals.

“My long journey to this Parliament, as you are all aware, received a lot of setbacks,” he told the House.

In 2004, just two days before the nomination deadline, the elders of Effutu deemed him too young for the MP role, denying him the chance to contest in the parliamentary elections.

Similarly, in 2008, despite his candidacy, regional executives, backed by the incumbent MP, thwarted his campaign through questionable tactics.

Despite these setbacks, he persevered, focusing on other electoral victories and advancing the party’s agenda.

“In 2012, when I finally got the nod to lead Effutu, none had confidence in me to win” he indicated.

President J. A. Kufuor asked Hon. Hackman Owusu Agyemang to address the people out of kindness.

President J. A. Kufuor asked Hon. Hackman Owusu Agyemang to address the people out of kindness.

After securing victory in the 2016 elections, an outcome he had diligently strived for under the NPP banner, he harbored high hopes. However, those aspirations failed to materialize because, as he reflected, “that was not my time.”

Despite witnessing his younger counterparts, who entered the House alongside him in 2016, being appointed as Cabinet Ministers or assuming chairmanship or vice-chairmanship roles, he himself never received such opportunities.“I never complained”.

His nomination to the ECOWAS Parliament also suffered a major setback because though the slots were 8, there were nine, and one colleague MP wanted to continue to be in the ECOWAS Parliament, he sacrificed himself and came back home.

“I expected to be honoured with an appointment to the committee level but that did not happen and I never complained,” he told the House.

He never gave up. He continued to work hard for the NPP and to sacrifice his all for the same party, and today, he has been rewarded, and for that matter, he is grateful.

The Majority Leader also recalled how he was so afraid to speak on the floor of the House and to undertake certain basic things because he lacked the confidence to do so.

“It took a true brother and colleague, Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah who called me one day when I was in Winneba that Kwamena, come to Parliament, we are debating the budget. I said how will I start? He said, come, I have prepared some notes for you. Mark Assibey Yeboah said you can do it! Come on! I have done mine! It happened.

“I thank you, Mark, how I wish you were here with me. I miss you dearly, you’re a true brother. You are selfless and you made it happen” he praised Dr. Assibey Yeboah.

He thanked his professors who taught him in law school, Dr. Benjamin Kumbuor and Hon. Paapa Owusu Ankomah. He also showed appreciation to the late E. T. Mensah for being there for him in his early days in Parliament.

As if the prophecy comes true, in my early days, he stated, he received a call from Hon. O. B. Amoah that Leader was traveling all the way to Hanoi, Vietnam and he was supposed to be part of the trip but for some reason, he could not make it and he had requested that he joined Leader in his stead.

“Upon arrival in Hanoi, on one of the nights, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah had a good discussion with me. He advised that I stayed close to the standing orders and he realized that many people don’t pay attention to the standing orders.

He added that if you do it well and you discipline yourself, perhaps you may succeed me, you never know” Hon. Markin recounted what his predecessor, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu told him back in the days.

Additionally, he said that while traveling with Hon. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu in Kenya, he reiterated the counsel that had been given to him in Hanoi. He showered him with gratitude for his guidance and counsel.

Additionally, he expressed his appreciation to the New Patriotic Party for recognizing him as the Parliamentary Majority Leader.

“Today, I stand before you in profound humility and great honour to say that the party NPP has honoured me to be the primus of this great chamber” he stated.

In addition, he promised to put in great effort to carry on the good work started by his predecessor, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu.

“I will work hard as the new Majority Leader in Parliament in order to continue with the good works of my predecessor” he assured the caucus.

A 21-year-old driver’s mate, Jeffery Johnson, has been brought before an Accra Circuit Court on charges of robbery and causing harm.

Johnson, along with accomplices who are currently at large, is accused of robbing two individuals of their mobile phones.

During the robbery, Johnson allegedly stabbed Ebenezer Dapaah, the first complainant, on his right hand before stealing his phone and that of the second complainant, Rosemary Akorli. Johnson pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Presiding over the case, Judge Afia Owusua Appiah remanded Johnson into Police custody until March 7, 2024. Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu led the prosecution, stating that the complainants, Ebenezer Dapaah and Rosemary Akorli, both worked at Papaya Food Company.

According to Chief Inspector Alorwu, the incident occurred on February 17, 2024, between 1:00 am and 1:30 am, when Johnson and his accomplices arrived at the complainants’ house in Teshie.

Despite the complainants raising an alarm, Johnson’s accomplices managed to flee with the motorbike while Johnson was apprehended by locals and handed over to the Teshie Police patrol team.

Upon searching Johnson, the police found one of the stolen phones and the pair of scissors used in the robbery.

NPP Primaries: “I can’t forgive the people who said ill things about me” – Ken Agyapong

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has again expressed discontent with events leading up to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries in November 2023, during an interview on the KSM show on Friday, February 23, 2024.

Agyapong clarified that his dissatisfaction wasn’t with the primary election results but with the actions of individuals he considered friends.

He expressed feeling betrayed by these acquaintances, including some NPP MPs, who not only turned against him but also spread derogatory remarks. Agyapong asserted his unwillingness to forgive them for hurting him deeply.

In the NPP flagbearer election held on November 4, 2023, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious, securing 118,210 votes, which accounted for 61.47% of the total votes cast.

  • Nigeria cracks down on forex street traders, crypto trading platforms amid naira decline

Nigeria cracks down on forex street traders, crypto trading platforms amid naira decline

In a bid to halt the steep decline of the naira, Nigeria has taken decisive action against foreign currency street traders and a prominent crypto trading platform.

The unofficial market witnessed a sharp drop in the value of the naira this week, reaching 1,900 to the dollar at one point on Thursday. This widening gap between the unofficial and official rates of the naira has posed challenges for government efforts to unify the two.

The depreciation of the currency follows months of decline since President Bola Tinubu relaxed Nigeria’s foreign exchange regime to attract much-needed foreign investment. Since the relaxation of the currency peg in June, the naira has lost approximately 70% of its value against the dollar.

Despite hopes for increased US currency inflows, the anticipated liquidity in local dollars has been slow to materialize. Consequently, the scarcity of local dollar liquidity has led to significant fluctuations in the street value of the naira.

As a result, authorities have turned their attention to forex street traders, with anti-graft officers conducting numerous arrests in Lagos and other parts of the country. Aminu Gwadabe, president of the Association of Bureaux de Change Operators of Nigeria, confirmed the arrests, clarifying that those apprehended were unlicensed operators.

Additionally, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had previously announced plans to establish a task force to address the mishandling of the naira and the dollarization of the economy.

In a separate development, a presidential spokesperson accused the crypto trading platform Binance of manipulating the naira. The spokesperson confirmed reports that access to Binance had been restricted for some users in Nigeria. Binance, in response, acknowledged on Thursday that certain Nigerian users were encountering difficulties accessing its website.

Many young Nigerians utilize the cost of a USDT token in naira on the Binance platform as an indicator of the naira’s exchange rate against the dollar.

We will boycott 2024 elections if you don’t formalize our work – Tricycle, okada riders to govt

Tricycle and commercial motorbike (okada) riders across the nation have hinted at plans to boycott the 2024 general elections if the government fails to demonstrate a genuine commitment to formalizing their operations beforehand.

Expressing their grievances at a press conference in Kumasi on February 22, 2024, the National Secretary for the National Union of Tricycle Operators of Ghana (NUTOG), Mr. Hamza Hafiz, reiterated the vital role tricycle operations play in providing employment opportunities for youth.

Mr. Hamza emphasized the significant contribution of tricycle operations to youth employment, with over 35,000 individuals benefiting from job opportunities within the sector, thereby aiding in reducing the nation’s unemployment rate.

However, Mr. Hamza expressed concern over the apparent lack of commitment displayed by political parties, particularly the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), in legalizing their operations.

He stressed that the threat of an election boycott would only be rescinded if any political party demonstrated genuine commitment to advocating for their cause, engaging with them, and promising to legalize their operations if they emerge victorious in the elections.

Mr. Hamza urged the NPP government to take immediate action to formalize their operations, thereby ensuring sustainable employment opportunities for the youth. Failure to do so, he warned, would result in the government forfeiting the support of tricycle and okada riders in the upcoming general elections.

Your appointment is an opportunity to reevaluate, adopt sustainable approach to tax collection – Financial Analyst to Amin Adam

Enyonam Adzo Apetorgbor, a financial analyst, has voiced concerns regarding the treatment of taxpayers in the tax collection process.

She believes that the current strategy of aggressive tax collection has led to strained relations between taxpayers and the government.

Furthermore, she argues that this approach has proven to be ineffective, as the government has not achieved the anticipated revenue targets.

In a statement reported by GhanaWeb Business, Enyonam Adzo Apetorgbor suggests that the appointment of Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam as the Minister of Finance provides an opportunity for the government to rectify its approach by adopting a more sustainable method of tax collection.

The Financial Analyst said, “Our country’s economic landscape is characterized by its dynamic yet volatile nature, with harsh economic conditions posing significant challenges to both citizens and the government.”

“The role of taxation in this context is pivotal, serving as a primary source of revenue for the government to fund public services and developmental projects. However, the prevailing strategy of aggressive tax collection has not only strained the relationship between taxpayers and the government but has also been inefficient in the long run,” she added.

Enyonam Adzo Apetorgbor further said, “The appointment of a new Finance Minister presents an opportune moment to reevaluate and adopt a more sustainable approach.”

The Financial Analyst expressed the view that striving to surpass revenue targets without promoting innovation could result in counterproductive outcomes in tax collection.

He underscored the urgent need for national reconstruction in the face of socio-economic challenges, including high unemployment and deteriorating living standards.

He criticized the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration for mismanagement, corruption, and a lack of accountability, which has resulted in a severe economic crisis.

Mahama pointed out that Vice President Bawumia’s recent promises to streamline government, eliminate certain taxes, and undertake constitutional reforms are ideas he has long advocated for. He accused Bawumia of adopting these proposals despite his involvement in the poor governance of the current administration.

“The widespread acceptance of the 24-hour policy appears to have sent the NPP campaign into a tailspin, leading to a frantic effort to attack it through calumny and disinformation in the last few days. We are fortified in the knowledge that the days when the NPP assumed that they could use falsehood to hoodwink Ghanaians for electoral advantage are over, mainly because of their horrific performance in the last seven years after they were entrusted with the administration of our dear nation, Ghana.

“There is no room in leadership for excuse-making and flight from responsibility. You cannot make grandiose promises about the economy in 2016 only to be put in charge, run it down, push all of us into suffering and hardships and turn around to say you were only the mate of a reckless driver and, therefore, you should be excused from blame. Not only do I have a much better and measurable performance record in both my role as Vice President and Head of the Economic Management Team, and later as President, than my leading contender in this year’s elections, I also have a record of taking responsibility.

“The same cannot be said of my opponent. I note that my long-espoused pledges to substantially reduce the size of government by having much fewer Ministries, Ministers and appointees, abolish the payment of ex-gratia, scrap taxes like the e-levy and carry out far-reaching constitutional and governance reforms, have compelled my opponent to promise the same despite being front of centre of the poor governance under which all these ills have taken place,” he said.

Mahama reaffirmed his dedication to fulfilling his pledges, which encompass establishing a robust governance framework and implementing initiatives to foster job creation and bolster indigenous enterprises within the digital economy. He provided assurance to Ghanaians regarding safeguarding their votes and guaranteeing an equitable electoral result.

“Since 2021, I have outlined over sixty (60) different policy proposals, carefully curated to restore our economy and national life into a much better state.

“In particular, the 24-hour economy policy has found resonance with most Ghanaians, especially the youth, as confirmed by both data-based and anecdotal evidence.

“This policy has offered hope to our increasingly restless and despondent population that the half measures and mismanagement they see under the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government, which has plunged us into suffering, will soon give way to more prudent and forward-looking programmes.

“The 24-hour economy remains the surest way to achieve significant economic expansion, boost productivity, meet demand, curb unbridled imports and their attendant adverse effects on our economy, currency, and, above all, generate well-paying jobs for the millions of people without employment,” he said.

  • The roll call of biblical financial evangelists

The roll call of biblical financial evangelists

“Money is not sinful or evil. The kingdom of God needs it desperately! Making money is what I do best but it must be made for God’s glory and not mine. As a Christian entrepreneur, my company relies on prayer and inward confirmation by the Holy Spirit before making any decision. I believe God is interested in my business if my business is His business.” ~Robert Norman Edmiston, Evangelical British Billionaire

Remember how we defined a Financial Evangelist as someone who dedicates their resources to furthering the gospel? Today, we embark on a journey through scripture, encountering real-life examples of individuals who embodied this powerful principle.

Prepare to be inspired by these remarkable figures who leveraged their financial means to amplify God’s kingdom. We’ll dive deep into their stories, uncovering the motivations, strategies, and impactful outcomes of their financial evangelism.

Ready to discover heroes of faith who put their money where their heart was? Let’s begin!

Financial Evangelist 1: King David David, a true financial evangelist, wholeheartedly invested his resources and himself into the cause of the kingdom. He spared no effort, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to God’s purpose. His dedication was such that he willingly presented the best portion of his possessions to the Almighty.

On that particular day, Gad approached David, relaying the divine command to erect an altar to the Lord upon the threshing floor owned by Araunah the Jebusite. True to Gad’s instructions and in alignment with God’s will, David ascended the hill. As Araunah spotted the approach of the king and his entourage, he came forward, bowing before the king with profound respect. He inquired, “Why has your majesty, the king, come to his servant?” David’s response was clear, “To procure your threshing floor and construct an altar to the Lord, in order to avert the pestilence from the people.”

Araunah’s generous offer included oxen for a burnt offering, along with threshing sledges and yokes for the oxen, even offering the land itself. However, David emphatically refused, declaring, “No, I will purchase them from you at their full value. I will not present to the Lord my God offerings that have cost me nothing.” And so, David acquired the threshing floor and the oxen, paying fifty silver shekels. He then proceeded to erect an altar to the Lord, offering burnt sacrifices and peace offerings. Consequently, the Lord heeded David’s prayers, leading to the cessation of the plague upon Israel. ~2 Samuel 24:18-25

This passage unfolds after David had undertaken a census of Israel, an action that displeased God. In response, a devastating plague afflicted the nation. Following considerable harm caused by the plague, the prophet Gad directed David to construct an altar on Araunah the Jebusite’s threshing floor, a site for making offerings and seeking divine forgiveness. Despite Araunah’s offer to provide the land and materials without cost, David insisted on purchasing them, underscoring his belief that authentic sacrifices demand personal sacrifice. David’s purchase of the land, subsequent altar construction, and offering of sacrifices ultimately led to God’s intervention, halting the plague.

This narrative stands as a poignant reminder of the significance of sincere and sacrificial worship. It underscores the principle that genuine devotion entails personal investment and dedication. Furthermore, David’s monumental contributions to the construction of the temple further exemplify his fervent commitment to God’s dwelling place. He not only directed others to contribute, but also dedicated vast quantities of gold, silver, brass, iron, timber, and stone to the house of the Lord.

His words to Solomon, his successor, encapsulate his dedication,

“Now, in the midst of my difficulties, I have readied for the house of the LORD one hundred thousand talents of gold, one million talents of silver, along with an abundance of brass and iron—weightless. Additionally, I have prepared timber and stone, and you may add to it as needed. Skilled craftsmen, hewers of stone and timber, and artisans of every kind are at your disposal. The gold, silver, brass, and iron are beyond measure. Therefore, rise and act, with the LORD’s presence guiding you.” (1 Chronicles 22:14-16, KJV).

Financial Evangelist 2: King Solomon Solomon, deeply influenced by his father King David, embraced the art of giving wholeheartedly. He channeled substantial financial resources into the construction of the temple, distinguishing himself as an exemplary supporter of God’s kingdom in the Old Testament.

Interestingly, Solomon’s generous giving prompted a remarkable encounter with God. He beseeched, “Grant me wisdom and knowledge, that I may govern this great people of Yours.” God’s response was both revealing and profound, acknowledging Solomon’s unselfish heart. God commended Solomon for not seeking material riches, wealth, honor, or the downfall of his enemies. Instead, Solomon’s request for wisdom and knowledge to guide his role as a just ruler over God’s people resonated deeply. In light of this, God granted Solomon not only wisdom and knowledge, but also unparalleled riches, wealth, and honor—unequaled by any previous or subsequent kings.

The narrative further unfolds in I Kings 3: 5 to 7, shedding light on Solomon’s reverence and devotion. He placed the bronze altar crafted by Bezalel, son of Uri, before the Lord’s tabernacle. At this sacred location, Solomon and the assembly sought divine communion. In a profound act of worship, Solomon ascended to the bronze altar and presented a thousand burnt offerings upon it. It was on this transformative night that God materialized before Solomon, extending a momentous invitation: “Ask! What shall I give you?”

Solomon stood as an exemplar of a premier financial evangelist, unhesitatingly dedicating all resources at his disposal to advance the kingdom’s cause. His desire to magnify the splendor of God’s dwelling was evident, as he pursued the beautification of God’s house with unwavering commitment.

Financial Evangelist 3: St. Joseph of Arimathea According to all four Gospels, Joseph of Arimathea was a discreet follower of Jesus, quietly embracing his teachings. In an act of profound reverence, he personally interred Jesus’ body within his own tomb. Notably, Mark 15:43 and Luke 23:50’s reference to him as a “member of the council” suggests his affiliation with the esteemed Great Sanhedrin in Jerusalem.

This virtuous and affluent man, occupying a significant position, demonstrated courage by securing Pontius Pilate’s authorization to retrieve Jesus’ body. Mark 15:43 cites his motivation as eagerly anticipating the arrival of the kingdom of God. Joseph’s intent was twofold: to avert the defilement of Jewish law, which prohibited a crucified body from remaining on the cross overnight, and to grant Jesus an honorable burial.

An intriguing mid-13th-century narrative insertion recounts Joseph’s journey to Glastonbury in England, a place where he is revered as the patron saint. In this account, attributed to St. Philip the Apostle, Joseph led a group of 12 missionaries dispatched to Glastonbury.

Matthew 28:57-61, in the New King James Version, provides a vivid depiction of Joseph’s devoted act. This passage emphasizes Joseph’s meticulous care, as he personally wrapped Jesus’ body in a clean linen cloth and placed it within a newly carved tomb hewn from rock. Subsequently, he sealed the entrance with a sizable stone. Notably, the presence of Mary Magdalene and the other Mary near the tomb underscores the solemnity of the occasion.

The narrative highlights Joseph of Arimathea’s extensive commitment to according Jesus a dignified burial. This serves as a poignant reminder of the lengths to which believers should be willing to go in propagating the gospel across the globe today. Just as Joseph’s sacrificial actions ensured a fitting farewell for Jesus, modern believers must also exhibit a readiness to invest in spreading the message of Christ to all corners of the world.

Financial Evangelist 4: Mary Magdalene She stands recognized as a vital benefactor in the early ministry of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her name resonates prominently within Luke 8:1-3:

“As He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.”

In this passage, these women undertook the role of supporting Jesus and the Twelve. This indicates their affluence and respectability, portraying a glimpse into the commendable role prosperous women fulfilled during that era. It is plausible that this attribution reflects the influence of prosperous women in later years, harkening back to the time of Jesus.

But who was she? From the New Testament, a portrait emerges of Mary of Magdala, hailing from a village along the shores of the Sea of Galilee, as a prominent figure drawn to Jesus. Amidst the hour of mortal peril, when his male companions faltered, Mary of Magdala remained steadfast by his side, even through the agonies of the Crucifixion. Witness to the tomb and recipient of the initial resurrection appearance of Jesus, she was the first to herald the “Good News” of this miraculous event. These assertions in the Gospels provide some of the limited insights into Mary Magdalene’s role.

Additional writings from the early Christian epoch suggest that in the years following Jesus’ passing, her standing as an “apostle” rivaled even that of Peter. This elevated status sprang from the profound intimacy she shared with Jesus, with some accounts alluding to a physical dimension that included acts of affection.

From these early Christian records, spanning the first to the third centuries, the framework was crafted, culminating in a portrayal of St. Mary Magdalene. One critical element that looms large in her legend—that she was a penitent prostitute—seems largely erroneous. This misconception has shaped the dual narrative of her legacy, both as a means of undermining human sexuality and subduing the empowerment of women.

    Financial Evangelist 5: Lady Joanna

Lady Joanna stands as yet another remarkable and affluent woman who channeled her financial resources to propel the cause of God’s kingdom forward. As the wife of Chuza, the esteemed chief steward in the court of Herod, she harnessed her position and financial prowess to bolster the ministry of Jesus Christ. Joanna’s benevolent contributions were pivotal; without her compassionate support, the ministry of Jesus might have encountered substantial financial challenges. May the divine grace bring forth more such individuals to uplift and fortify the church!

    Wikipedia details Joanna’s profound impact:

“Joanna, a woman mentioned in the Gospels, experienced healing by Jesus and later emerged as a dedicated supporter of him and his disciples during their journeys. She is one of the women chronicled in the Gospel of Luke who accompanied Jesus and the twelve apostles, bearing witness to the miraculous resurrection of Jesus. Joanna was united in matrimony to Chuza, entrusted with managing the household of Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, in his capacity as steward. As it unfolded, Jesus journeyed through cities and villages, proclaiming the uplifting message of the kingdom of God. Alongside the twelve apostles, a group of women who had been liberated from malevolent spirits and infirmities by Jesus’ grace journeyed with Him as well. This company included Mary, also known as Magdalene, from whom seven demons had been cast out, as well as JOANNA, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward. Susanna and numerous others were also part of this assembly, wholeheartedly providing sustenance for Jesus from their personal resources.”

Indeed, the narrative of Lady Joanna underscores her pivotal role in ensuring the continuation of Jesus’ mission. As a steadfast benefactor and witness to the miraculous, her influence exemplifies the profound impact of using wealth for a higher purpose.

Financial Evangelist 6: Lady Susanna Susanna emerges as a significant figure among the women who contributed financially to Jesus’ ministry, as documented in Luke 8:1-3. There is speculation that she might have been the spouse of Joseph of Arimathea, a prosperous trader in tin who possessed a fleet of ships and harbored a concealed devotion to Jesus Christ.

The scriptural account in Luke 8:1-3 paints a vivid picture:

“In due course, as Jesus traversed every city and village, proclaiming the joyful tidings of the kingdom of God, the twelve apostles accompanied Him. Also, in their midst were certain women who had been liberated from malevolent spirits and afflictions. Among them was Mary, known as Magdalene, from whom seven demons had been expelled. Another was Joanna, the wife of Chuza, a steward in Herod’s service. Additionally, there was Susanna, along with numerous others, who extended their support by contributing from their own resources.”

This depiction highlights Susanna’s active participation in nurturing Jesus’ mission through her financial contributions. Moreover, intriguing speculation revolves around her potential connection to Joseph of Arimathea, a prosperous merchant renowned for his ownership of an extensive fleet of ships. He is noted as a secret disciple of Jesus. This association adds depth to Susanna’s role, suggesting a network of committed supporters working in harmony to advance Jesus’ cause.

Financial Evangelist 7: Lady Lydia Lydia, a pioneering European convert and a shrewd businesswoman, dealt in the luxurious trade of purple fabrics, items of remarkable value during that era. Originally hailing from Thyatira, she had established herself in Philippi, where her path converged with that of Paul during his second missionary journey. Her specialty in purple cloth, closely associated with Thyatira’s renown as a hub for the indigo trade, hints at her expertise and trade connections. While the Bible does not explicitly verify her membership in the dyers’ guild, inscriptions discovered among Thyatira’s ruins hint at such a possibility.

Embarking from Troas, we navigated a direct route to Samothrace and proceeded to Neapolis, eventually reaching Philippi—the preeminent city in that Macedonian region. In this city, we lingered for a span, and on the Sabbath, we ventured to the riverside, where the customary place of prayer was situated. Seated amidst a gathering of women, we engaged in dialogue.

During this encounter, a woman named Lydia, hailing from Thyatira and known for her trade in purple, intently absorbed our words. She was devout, a worshiper of God, and in a remarkable turn of events, the Lord unlocked her heart, rendering her receptive to Paul’s teachings. This profound transformation led to her baptism, alongside her household. Filled with gratitude, she implored us, proclaiming, “If you consider me faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” Her heartfelt persuasion resonated with us, and we accepted her gracious invitation.

Lydia’s exceptional success as an entrepreneur is evident through her ownership of not only a residence in Philippi, where she conducted business, but quite possibly another in her hometown Thyatira, modern-day Turkey. Remarkably, she opened her dwelling to accommodate missionaries, which ultimately resulted in her own salvation. Her passion for both business and ministry became intertwined as she fervently urged Paul to take lodging under her roof during his ministry journey.

This narrative serves as a compelling testament to Lydia’s multi-faceted character—a savvy merchant, a devout believer, and a generous host. Her story continues to inspire, showcasing how her entrepreneurial acumen and fervent faith intersected to contribute significantly to the spread of Christianity.

Financial Evangelist 8: Priscilla and Aquilla Priscilla and her husband Aquila encountered the Apostle Paul during his visit to Corinth around 50 C.E. This trio would go on to forge an unbreakable camaraderie, embark on shared journeys, and collaborate in ministry. However, our story begins nearly a year earlier, in 49 C.E., when Emperor Claudius, as documented by Suetonius, expelled all Jews who followed “Chrestus” (likely a misrepresentation of “Christ”) from Rome. Among those exiled were Aquila and Priscilla, who resettled in Corinth and established a thriving leather goods business (Acts 18:2). By the time Paul crossed paths with them, they were already fervent disciples of Jesus.

Subsequently, they accompanied Paul to Ephesus, staying on to provide unwavering support to the burgeoning congregation. While in Ephesus, Priscilla and Aquila offered precise guidance to the eloquent preacher Apollos, particularly regarding the gospel’s teachings on baptism (Acts 18:26). After Claudius’ decree was overturned, they returned to Rome (Rom 16:3-4). Priscilla and Aquila are explicitly mentioned six times in the New Testament, consistently acknowledged as a united pair (Acts 18:2-3; Acts 18-19; Acts 26; Rom 16:3-5; 1Cor 16:19; 2Tim 4:19).

They held influential positions within the fledgling churches and commanded profound respect. Their collaborative partnership serves as an exemplary model of early church ministry (see Rom 16:7; 1Cor 9:5). Paul designates them as his “partners” in spreading the gospel, praising their willingness to face adversity on his behalf (Rom 16:3-4), and noting twice that congregations gathered in their homes (Rom 16:5; 1Cor 16:19).

This dynamic duo also excelled as entrepreneurs within the early church marketplace. Priscilla, a savvy businesswoman, displayed a deep understanding of spiritual matters. She actively contributed to fortifying Paul’s ministry. Historical records indicate that Priscilla held a prominent position, as evident in Acts 16:26; 18:18; Romans 16:3; 2 Timothy 4:9. Aquila, whose Latin name signifies “eagle,” embarked on a journey from Pontus, his homeland in northern Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey) near the Black Sea, to Rome. He practiced the trade of tentmaking, a skill often pursued by emancipated slaves, analogous to Paul, a Roman citizen by birth, who also engaged in such labour.

Sudan’s conflict exposing citizens to rape, other violence – UN reports

A recent report from the UN’s Human Rights Office sheds light on the appalling violations occurring on both sides of the war in Sudan.

Evidence gathered over eight months since the conflict erupted last April reveals harrowing accounts from hundreds of individuals.

Ethnically motivated attacks in the Darfur region have resulted in thousands of deaths, with disturbing allegations of child rape also documented.

Satellite imagery corroborates reports of heavy explosives being indiscriminately used in densely populated areas, leading to the deaths of numerous civilians.

Calls for Action Following Disturbing Events in Sudan

Following the emergence of video footage depicting students being beheaded by uniformed individuals, the UN is intensifying calls for immediate action.

The perpetrators, after carrying out the beheadings, callously paraded the decapitated heads through the streets, further exacerbating the shock and horror.

In light of these atrocities, the UN is urging an end to the ongoing violence and advocating for inclusive talks aimed at establishing a civilian-led government in Sudan.

Accusations of contempt directed at ex-Council of State member amid church property dispute

A former member of the Council of State during John Dramani Mahama’s tenure, along with Jacob Asirifi Senior, Enoch Ofori, and Daniel Mensah, now face accusations of contempt by the Saviour Church of Ghana.

Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, Esquire, representing the Saviour Church of Ghana, has lodged a motion for contempt of court against these individuals.

The motion requests the court to mandate the respondents to return all removed evidence of the applicant’s property, including signage and symbols.

This legal action follows the Saviour Church of Ghana’s victory in a 24-year-long Supreme Court review case, affirming its ownership rights to the contested properties.

The motion alleges that the respondents impeded court officials from executing a Writ of Possession by assaulting them and church representatives.

It references an audio recording purportedly featuring Abraham Adusei instructing his followers to modify the church’s properties to assert their ownership.

The motion contends that these actions constitute contempt of court and seeks appropriate sanctions to deter future disobedience.

MIIF working to make Ghana an Electric Vehicle Hub

Chief Executive of the Minerals Income and Investment Fund (MIIF), Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng, has unveiled a strategic plan to capitalize on the Ghana Automobile Development policy.

The goal is to position Ghana as a key player in electric vehicles (EVs) and battery production in sub-Saharan Africa.

In response to a recent World Bank report advocating for broader EV adoption, Mr. Koranteng underscored the long-term objective of developing EVs and establishing Ghana as a hub for critical minerals and solar batteries.

During discussions with journalists on the sidelines of MIIF’s appearance at the Public Accounts Committee sitting at Parliament House, he highlighted MIIF’s intention to leverage the newly launched automobile policy.

Additionally, they are exploring the lithium reserves in the Central Region of Ghana to advance this initiative.

“MIIF is thinking long term, we are looking at how we can leverage Ghana Automobile Development policy to support the automobile sector into developing EVs, to serve the entire sub-Saharan region. We looking at making Ghana the hub for solar batteries and other batteries, a centre where critical minerals could be studied, so we looking at a full 360.”

He emphasized the value of lithium and graphite and stressed how they could strengthen Ghana’s position as the region’s hub for batteries along with iron ore and manganese.

“This is something that Ghana should invest in, lithium is of security and strategic importance, is the mineral of the future, and is a very important critical mineral”.

“If you take lithium out and look at another critical mineral like graphite that MIIF is seeking to invest in the North, we have iron ore and manganese.  All these minerals put together could easily make Ghana the battery hub for sub-Saharan Africa, and this is where the world is transitioning into. The whole de-carbonization agenda rest on minerals like lithium, so we have to pay particular attention to it” he said.

  •  Ofori-Atta made Senior Presidential Advisor

     Ofori-Atta made Senior Presidential Advisor

President Nana Addo has designated Ken Ofori-Atta as the Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance and Private Sector Investments, following his replacement as Finance Minister by Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam.

The announcement of this appointment was conveyed in a letter dated February 15, 2023, from the Office of the President, signed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.

Market analysts view this move as a promotion for Ofori-Atta, as he will now advise President Akufo-Addo on matters pertaining to international finance and private sector investment.

The letter reads,” I am pleased to inform you [Ken Ofori-Atta] that the President of the Republic has appointed you as the Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance and Private Sector Investments.”

“I take this opportunity to congratulate you formally on your reassignment and wish you the very best in this new office. Please accept the President’s best wishes”.

Mr. Ofori-Atta’s transition follows his seven-year tenure as Finance Minister, during which he steered Ghana’s economy through both ambitious initiatives and challenging economic realities.

Prior to his ministerial role, he co-founded Databank, a leading Ghanaian financial services firm, and held various board positions spanning diverse industries.

In his new capacity, Mr. Ofori-Atta is expected to leverage his vast experience and networks to attract international investments and enhance private sector involvement in Ghana’s development agenda.

His appointment capitalizes on his proven expertise in finance and global engagement. Notably, he made history as the first African to testify before the US Congress in support of the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act and held key leadership roles in international bodies such as the World Bank/IMF Development Committee and the African Capacity Building Foundation.

However, Mr. Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister faced scrutiny, particularly regarding Ghana’s escalating debt levels and the repercussions of economic policies.

In May 2021, he announced in a press briefing that Ghana would not seek IMF assistance to manage its mounting debt, aligning with the “Ghana Beyond Aid” agenda championed by President Akufo-Addo since 2018. However, following the President’s directive in July 2022, the Finance Minister initiated formal engagement with the IMF for debt management support.

By December 2022, the IMF and Ghana reached a staff-level agreement on a $3 billion debt relief package, subsequently approved by the IMF Board in early 2023, as announced by Ofori-Atta. On May 17, 2023, the IMF Board officially approved a $3-billion Extended Credit Facility Arrangement for Ghana.

Provide tools for workers, fix all malfunctioning equipments – Suhuyini to EC

The Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan Suhuyini has accused the Electoral Commission of focusing on trivial matters instead of focusing on providing adequate tools for her workers.

He pointed out that during the last district-level election, voting materials arrived very late and some equipments were not even functional upon arrival.

Thus the EC needs to focus on providing proper tools and equipment to for workers and fix all malfunctional equipment.

“In my constituency for example, in one electoral area they voted till 2am, materials arrived late, the equipment still malfunctioned and you are not dealing with that,” he said on the AM Show.

Electoral Commission is majoring on minor things and minoring on major things” he added.

He mentioned that some officers in the Electoral Commission were given vehicles, but were denied of funds for its maintenance.

“There are so many officers that I know that were given vehicles, pickups in 2020, have not been serviced. They have not been given money for servicing at all and we are in 2024. They sent only two spare tyres to them, does a vehicle use two tyres?

“Sending them two tyres for just one pickup to run in the constituency when is election time, they don’t get their fuel on time, nothing.

“During the limited registration exercise, when colleagues and I went around the district offices, in some cases we had to give money for them to buy credit, to be able to power their offices. These are basic things.

“Despondency is at the highest level today at the Electoral Commission. Workers don’t feel motivated to work because they are not even given the basic tools to work, and these are the things you need to fix as the leader of that institution,” he added.

A recent visit to the facility revealed a well-maintained airport, but one that sees minimal activity. Since Passion Air ceased operations on the Accra route in March 2022, the airport has been virtually deserted, yearning for revitalization to offset the $25 million loan incurred during its development and cover ongoing operational expenses.

According to Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) data, approximately GH¢2.42 million has been spent on maintenance over the past two years, post-commercial operations suspension. The maintenance expenditure encompasses various services, including cleaning, landscaping, lighting, and equipment repairs.

Despite efforts to revive commercial flights, challenges such as aircraft technical issues, escalating operational costs, and low passenger numbers have hindered progress. While discussions with domestic airlines continue, there’s yet to be a breakthrough.

The Ho Airport, constructed between 2015 and 2018, boasts a 1,900-meter runway, terminal building, VIP facilities, and other essential amenities. However, its potential to spur trade, tourism, and employment remains largely untapped.

Local residents express disappointment over the airport’s underutilization, highlighting missed opportunities for economic advancement. Many eagerly await the resumption of commercial flights, recognizing the airport’s potential to alleviate transportation challenges and stimulate regional development.

In response to inquiries, GACL Managing Director Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare affirmed ongoing efforts to engage airlines and explore alternative revenue-generating initiatives. Plans for an aviation training academy and maintenance center, in collaboration with Africa World Airlines (AWA), signal a proactive approach to leverage the airport’s infrastructure for broader industry benefits.

Despite current setbacks, stakeholders remain optimistic about the airport’s long-term prospects, emphasizing the need for sustained investment and strategic partnerships to unlock its full economic potential.

This initiative serves as a means for the former Trade Minister to introduce himself to voters across these key marketplaces.

Throughout his visit, Mr. Kyerematen was warmly received by the crowds, with a particularly enthusiastic welcome at the Kaneshie market. Traders, speaking to JoyNews, expressed optimism regarding Mr. Kyerematen’s potential to lead the nation toward prosperity.

One trader remarked that based on the sizable crowds gathered, the upcoming 2024 elections would likely be highly contested. Another trader praised the former Minister’s leadership qualities and encouraged fellow Ghanaians to offer their unwavering support to his cause.

Mr. Kyerematen, visibly elated, conveyed to the media his observations regarding the enthusiastic reception he received. He emphasized that the palpable sentiment among the people indicated a strong desire for a shift in leadership, paralleled by an aspiration for an improvement in their economic circumstances.

“When you are connected spiritually to the ordinary people, you don’t need to mobilise them. You can see that the impact has been spontaneous and I am indeed humbled. You can also get a sense from the remark that they are making the change they want to see in Ghana.

“Yes we have had our two dominant parties for the last 32 years and it is almost unanimous in terms of what you are hearing from them that it is time for a change and I happen to be the right man at the right time. They are expressing their confidence in me to be able to lead this transformation process. So I am pleased about what is going on so far.

“The people are deciding, they have already made it clear that they want to see Alan Kyerematen as the next President,” he added.
