Wayoosi responds to Martha Ankomah’s alleged criticism of Kumawood films

In buttressing his assertion, he cited an instance where some Twi-speaking actors and actresses travelled abroad together with their English-speaking counterparts and the standing ovation they received was much more than those of their peers.

Wayoosi claims that even though the English-speaking actors and actresses were recognized but not as compared to the Twi-speaking actors and actresses.

Angry Wayoosi continued that even Yaw Dabo alone is more popular than Martha Ankomah.

Speaking again about Martha Ankomah, Wayoosi said that she is a nobody and irrelevant in the grand scheme of things and her comments were senseless.

According to him, even in the vicinity of the decent actress, Yaw Dabo is much more known than her.

Wayoosi has stepped up to address Martha Ankomah after Lilwin’s recent criticism of the award-winning actress over her remarks about the local movie industry.

Responding to Martha Ankomah’s assertion that Kumawood movies lack substance, Wayoosi has also criticized her, accusing her of being disrespectful.

During an interview, Wayoosi expressed his belief that Martha Ankomah’s statement is not only insulting but also disrespectful to the entire movie industry.

He further argued that Twi-speaking movie actors enjoy more popularity than their counterparts in Ghallywood.

  • Using pregnancy support belt is not safe for foetus oxygen supply, heart rate – Health specialist advises

Using pregnancy support belt is not safe for foetus oxygen supply, heart rate – Health specialist advises

Experts caution against excessive use of pregnancy belts, citing potential negative effects on both mother and baby.

These belts, designed to support the lower back, pelvis, hips, and abdomen during pregnancy, may lead to complications such as changes in fetal heart rate, low birth weight, birth asphyxia, and organ failure.

Typically made of reinforced fabric with multiple straps, pregnancy support belts aim to cradle the belly and provide gentle lift.

However, specialists emphasize that pregnant women do not inherently require external support, as the baby grows upward into the mother’s chest rather than outward.

Speaking exclusively to PUNCH Healthwise, medical professionals advise expectant mothers to consult their doctors before using compression or support garments during pregnancy. Additionally, they recommend seeking orthopedic consultation for severe low back pain.

Dr. Adefunke Babatola, a Consultant Paediatrician and Gastroenterologist at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, warns against regular use of pregnancy belts, noting potential risks such as reduced blood flow to the baby and other organs, particularly in the third trimester.

She said, “If this belt is worn regularly during the third trimester, it may affect the heart rate of the baby. The fetal heart rate may increase initially and later decrease, leading to birth asphyxia – a shortage of blood and oxygen to the brain.

“Asphyxia means lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain. It happens when a baby’s brain and other organs don’t get enough oxygen and nutrients before, during or right after birth. Without oxygen and nutrients, cells can’t work properly. Babies who suffer from birth asphyxia need immediate treatment to ensure that they get enough oxygen.”

The World Health Organization defines birth asphyxia as the inability to initiate breathing at birth. It is responsible for approximately 900,000 deaths annually worldwide and stands as the leading cause of early neonatal mortality.

Babatola, who is also a Paediatric Infectious Disease specialist added, “The duration one uses this belt determines the level of damage it may cause to the baby. If prolonged, it may affect the baby’s heart and kidneys. The only solution is for the belt not to be worn in order to allow the foetus enough room to move.”

Explaining why the belt causes fetal heart rate change, she said, “Changes in the heart rate occur when the heart of the baby struggles to pump blood to other essential organs of the body where it is needed following a reduction in the blood flow caused by regular wearing of pregnancy belt.

“There is an extra effort to meet the task of pumping blood to other parts of the body where it’s needed. If this goes on for a long time, the heart will stop and begin to go down. When this happens, it becomes more critical than when it increases.

“This will lead to weakness of the muscles and all parts of the body will be affected at this point because blood I meant to go to all vital organs.”

Similarly, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr. Babatunde Rosiji emphasized that pregnancy is a remarkable journey that does not require external support.

He said, “While teaching medical students, we let them know of the physiological changes that take place in pregnant women and that pregnancy is not a disease but a physiological process. For you to grab this, you need to understand the beauty of the female pelvis.

“The female pelvis is physically meant to protect the visceral organs and the reproductive organs. So, in the early part of the pregnancy, whether you use a belt or not, the womb will be within the protective cage of the bony pelvis. It will continue this way for three months.

“Now, after three months, as the foetus grows, the womb will begin to rise, and at that point, we say that it has become an abdominal organ. It grows into the abdomen and towards the chest of the mother.

“Physically, the foetus is not growing to the front, it is growing upwards and as it were; it does not need any external support whatsoever. So, by the time you are now putting on a belt on the outside, the foetus sees it as a restriction.

“Many times, when we are examining a pregnant woman and touch the baby’s head, the foetus senses it as a form of discomfort and begins to change position. So, wearing this belt puts stress on the foetus. Enjoy your pregnancy and let nature do its work.”

He added, “If you have low back pain during pregnancy, you can call on an orthopaedist, who can prescribe some medications. In the absence of vertebral anomalies, just enjoy the fun of pregnancy. You don’t need to restrict the baby; you don’t need to complicate anything for the foetus. Women shouldn’t subject themselves to additional restrictive pregnancy belts.

“This could lead to low birth weight babies and intrauterine growth-restricted uteruses. Get a seat for yourself that is comfortable and when you want to drive, you can put an extra pillow on your chair if you are having low back pain.

“Even your seat belt should be positioned in a way that it would be comfortable for you and the foetus without putting extra pressure.

“The essence of this is to ensure that the pressure on the foetus is as minimal as possible. This is also the work of amniotic fluid which surrounds your baby during pregnancy. So, no external support is needed during pregnancy.”

In a study published in the National Library of Medicine titled, ‘Effectiveness of maternity support belts in reducing low back pain during pregnancy: A review’, the authors, Simone Ho and his team, said there is no evidence to support the claim that pregnancy belts reduce the rate of low back pain in pregnancy.

The research, which was conducted to review the literature published on the types, current use, biomechanical effects and adverse effects of maternity support belts for low back pain during pregnancy, is meant to identify future research directions.

The authors said, “Maternity support belts belong to one of the four main types of maternity support garments, which are widely commercially available. Current research showed limited evidence in support of commercial maternity products regarding the effectiveness in the prevention and/or treatment of low back pain during pregnancy, other than that from the manufacturers.

“However, the potential stabilisation effect of the maternity support belt was demonstrated in some studies. Adverse effects reported include increased pain, fetal heart rate changes, skin irritation and discomfort.

“Therefore, there is insufficient scientific evidence to conclude that wearing maternity support belts reduces pregnancy-related low back pain and/or pelvic girdle pain. Future research directions in the area of biomechanics and physiology are recommended.”

Men think am transgender – Bearded Tanzanian woman laments

A Tanzanian woman named Elsie, who suffers from a rare condition called Hirsutism leading to facial hair growth, has shared her journey of struggles and acceptance.

Dealing with Hirsutism since childhood, Elsie has encountered numerous challenges due to her condition. In an interview with Wasafi Media, she shed light on the difficulties she faces, including misconceptions and prejudices.

Elsie revealed that she often experiences rejection from men who are hesitant to pursue relationships with her. Many mistake her for being transgender, adding another layer of misunderstanding to her experiences.

Despite the hurdles, Elsie embraces herself and her condition. She has learned to accept herself as she is and believes that her uniqueness serves a purpose.

Emphasizing that she is no different from other women, she holds onto the belief that her identity is a part of a greater plan designed by a higher power.

“I accepted myself because it’s natural. I was given by God. But there are a lot of challenges that I do face. Some people think I am transgender, but I would like to clarify that I am a woman. I have been blessed with one daughter and I am just okay. Many people wonder when they see me because I look different, but I am just like any other woman. Men fear me and they go around asking my friends if I am a real woman or transgender,” she said.

  • As an artiste, you can never say you won’t sing anymore – Becca

As an artiste, you can never say you won’t sing anymore – Becca

Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Rebecca Akosua Acheampong, popularly known as Becca, has debunked rumors suggesting that she has retired from the music industry.

In 2020, Becca announced on her Instagram page her intention to step back from being a recording artiste by the end of the year. This decision was driven by her desire to prioritize her family life after becoming a mother and to explore opportunities in real estate investment.

However, during an interview with Nana Ama McBrown on Onua Showtime, Becca clarified that her statement was misunderstood. She explained that she merely intended to take a break from actively recording music and not to quit her music career entirely.

Becca emphasized that her decision to step back did not mean she would no longer perform on stage at events or that she had permanently stopped singing.

“At a point in my life I decided to take a break so I when issued the statement people misunderstood it. I only said I did not want to be actively recording music. It did not mean that as an artiste I cannot perform on stage or I have stopped singing totally, it was only to the effect that I will not be engaging in studio recording.

“Also, I wanted to explore other areas after almost 14 years of music. But as an artiste honestly you can never say that you won’t sing anymore,” she noted on Sunday, February 11.

When asked by the host if she plans to return to active studio recordings, Becca replied, “Honestly, I do not know. The Valentine Love Night show will tell.”

Becca, who is now married and involved in real estate investment along with other ventures, will be performing on stage with fellow artiste Kwabena Kwabena on Wednesday, February 14, for the Vitamilk Love Night event.

In the meantime, Kwabena Kwabena revealed that it took him two years to persuade Becca to join him for his annual Valentine night performance.

“I wanted her to understand that she’s been missed by her fans. I have been to so many stages that after singing and about to leave stage, then the fans begin to sing ‘U lied to me’ then I sing my part and make the fans sing her part. It gave me the impression that she’s been missed,” Kwabena Kwabena said.

Slowdown in Govt of Ghana’s bond market amid decreasing T-bill yields

Activity in the secondary bond market for Government of Ghana papers slowed, with the total volume traded declining by 16.25% week-on-week to GHC1.33 billion.

Significantly, transactions from the February 2028 (coupon: 8.50%) and February 2029 (coupon: 8.65%) papers collectively accounted for approximately 76% of the total market turnover.

The local currency (LCY) yield curve experienced a downward reversal, with the average Yield-To-Maturity on the 2027-2030 papers decreasing to 19.13% (-198 basis points). Similarly, the yield on the 2035 – 2038 papers retreated to 17.07% (-14 basis points).

Analysts anticipate the sluggish trend in bond market activity to persist as investors prioritize treasury bills to maximize investment returns, particularly amidst declining T-bill yields.

Meanwhile, the government aims to raise GHC4.87 billion through the issuance of 91-day to 364-day bills to refinance maturing bills totaling GHC4.15 billion.

Analysts suggest that the relatively high auction target (+6.06% week-on-week) could exert upward pressure on yields.

  • A Look at top 15 lavish wedding celebrations around the Globe

A Look at top 15 lavish wedding celebrations around the Globe

Weddings are often considered the most opulent event in a couple’s life, where no dream seems too extravagant, especially for those with an unlimited budget. From private island destinations to endless champagne to couture outfits crafted by renowned designers, the rich and famous spare no expense to make their “I do’s” truly unforgettable.

In this list, we delve into the 15 most expensive weddings worldwide, where the union of love is adorned with unparalleled luxury. For centuries, weddings have been a symbol of social status, with the wealthy showcasing their affluence through elaborate ceremonies. Industrialists, celebrities, and royalty take center stage in this arena, with their weddings often costing millions due to their unique and extravagant features.

While some couples opt for grand entrances via helicopter, others take it a step further by creating custom venues to accommodate their esteemed guests. Exclusive performances by icons like Beyonce or the services of Italy’s top florists for lavish decorations may come with a hefty price tag, but for the elite 1%, it’s merely a drop in the bucket.

Why are weddings becoming more expensive?

Whether you’re someone who’s had wedding lust their entire life or prefer smaller, more intimate ceremonies, there’s no denying that they’re becoming pricier than ever. A study published in The Asean Post indicates that wedding costs in Southeast Asia are witnessing a sharp rise. Looking at Hong Kong more exclusively, the average cost of getting married in the city rose by 10 percent in 2022 to HKD 360,577 (approximately USD 45,982), according to online lifestyle media and e-business company ESDlife. Spending on each wedding item witnessed double-digit growth after two years of post-pandemic lag –from pre-wedding photography, and engagement rings to honeymoon packages. Rising inflation rates as well as exposure to social media trends can also be attributed as reasons for the rising cost of tying the knot in today’s day and age. To understand why couples are choosing to spend the extra dough we must look at the consumption environment in the post-pandemic world. While products and services for any event can become expensive, especially with grander versions, wedding expenses stand out for being disproportionately high. According to WeddingWire’s 2018 report on the modern matrimonial experience, some traditions (such as sharing a first dance) have stood the test of time, while new trends are emerging simultaneously. Couples are getting more creative when it comes to making their special day feel undoubtedly “them.” The study outlines a few of the main avenues of spending:

40 percent have unique musical choices during the ceremony (e.g. bagpipes).

21 percent add local elements based on the city where the couple met or grew up (e.g. food or decor).

18 percent include ceremonial customs related to their ethnicity/religion (e.g. jumping the broom).

17 percent hire special or out-of-the-box entertainment for guests (e.g. fortune tellers, caricature artists).

How do expensive celebrity weddings influence trends?

When it comes to the most expensive weddings in the world, pioneering trends are often born as a result of them. Take Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, and Sonam Kapoor. When the three actresses decided to swap the traditional red palette for a more timeless shade of white, Indian brides-to-be followed suit. “White is already the go-to bridal colour in several Indian states like Kerala, Assam, and Gujarat. But there is a considerable change in the mainstream colour palette too now. More brides are opting for white, ivory, and off-white to match their contemporary vision for their big day,” explained designer Ridhi Mehra to Mint Lounge, adding that her white lehengas were particularly popular for day-time weddings. So, which of the world’s wealthiest people feature on the list of the most expensive weddings? We take a look.

Spread over 10 days and three cities with 600 guests flown in privately from 26 countries  — globe-trotting hotelier Vikram Chatwal, and former investment banker-turned-model Priya Sachdev’s wedding was far from a simple affair. Chartered flights were the only mode of transport for this multimillion-dollar nuptial. “So we started in Bombay, which is called the gateway to India, and then we moved to Udaipur and then on to Delhi,” Mr. Chatwal told New York Times in the months after his 2006 wedding. “A lot of my friends had never been there so I really wanted to show them the country,” he added. Apart from the influential attendees, American heavyweights like Bill Clinton, model Patricia Velasquez, and Naomi Campbell, a coterie of Indian dignitaries like India’s then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, spiritual guru Deepak Chopra, the HRH Prince Nikolaos of Greece, and industrialist Lakshmi Mittal, were just some of the few starry names on the guest list. This multi-city extravaganza was estimated to cost a whopping USD 20 million and saw a traditional Sikh ceremony, a Mughal-court-inspired white party, a pool party set against the landscape of a 1760 fort as well as Chatwal leading the customary half-mile procession atop a white horse. “It’s the biggest wedding I’ve ever done,” said New Delhi–based wedding planner Vandana Mohan to New York Mag. Her duties included overseeing 14 special hospitality desks set up at each hotel and a fleet of 70 private cars for the three-city caravan. Fifty thousand kilos of flowers were shipped in from Holland, Bangkok, and Calcutta; a total of 3,000 candles were burned, and the crew went through 65,000 metres of fabric for the decor. Despite executing one of the most expensive weddings in the world, the couple parted ways just five years later in 2011.

    2. Prince Felipe of Spain and Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano – Between USD 28-54 million

Marrying into royalty is one dream we’re all guilty of harbouring but it was Spanish-born Letizia Ortiz who turned it into a reality in 2004. Elevating her status from anchorwoman to nobility, Ortiz married Spain’s then-heir, Prince Felipe in a lavish wedding that kept 25 million viewers enraptured in its dreamy commoner-to-queen fantasy. Nothing about their union was run of the mill. Had the television journalist not been sent to cover a 2002 story of a major oil tank disaster, which her prince presided over, the couple would’ve never crossed paths. Naturally, Prince Felipe proposed with a one-of-a-kind ring featuring 16 diamonds and crafted by Suárez Jewellery, a Spanish brand established in 1943. The Express reported it’s worth USD 25, 495. Swapping her flashier diamond engagement ring for a minimal gold band, Felipe and Ortiz’s wedding was nothing short of spectacular. After all, it was the first royal nuptials the country had seen in close to a century. More than 1,200 guests attended the grand function, which included princely elites like Prince Albert of Monaco, Charles, Prince of Wales, the Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, and other representatives from 36 royal houses and heads of state. Culminating at Madrid’s Almeduna Cathedral, the wedding saw the would-be-queen arriving at the location in a chauffeured Rolls-Royce Phantom IV while flaunting her sublime USD 8 million dress designed by Manuel Pertegaz.

Although Ortiz’s lineage might’ve been more ordinary, her bridal outfit reflected her impending elevation with heirloom pieces picked out from ancestral wardrobes. The spotlight accessory took the form of the historical Prussian tiara, crafted by the German court jeweler, Koch, in 1913. A loan from her mother-in-law, Queen Sofia of Spain, who inherited it from her mother, Queen Friederike of the Hellenes, this exquisite sparkler featured a pear-shaped double diamond cluster pendant in the centre. Apart from the bridal tapestry, delectable fare the likes of breaded scallops, croquettes, and chocolate serpentine cake flowed in abundance as the world’s royal elite welcomed their newest member. It was later revealed that the joint forces of the government at the time and the Royal House dished out somewhere between USD 28 to 54 million for the celebrations.

    3. Huang Xiaoming and Angela Yeung Wing – USD 31 million

What do you get when an influencer decides she’s ready to get hitched? One of the most expensive weddings in the world, obviously! Actress, singer, and model Angela Yeung — better known as “Angelababy” — tied the knot with actor Huang Xiaoming in October 2015, in a flashy ceremony that inevitably incited jealousy. The cavernous Shanghai Conventional Centre was the venue selected for the affair, with its screen-lined interiors displaying the couple’s Parisian pre-wedding film— Angelababy flaunting her Elie Saab gowns for the extended screentime.

If the ambience wasn’t elaborate enough, chances are you’re going to need to sit down when you see the ring. Crafted by Parisian designer Chaumet, the USD 1.5 million accessory featured a five-carat pear-shaped diamond with another half-carat of diamonds embellishing it. For the ceremony, Angelababy wore a custom Christian Dior gown. which according to Forbes, took five months to create. Additional details revealed the couture ensemble featured “115 feet of ivory satin organza and 165 feet of tulle…a 10-foot-long train and nearly 100 hand-cut rose bouquets made of Chantilly lace.” A total of 2,000 guests, including Hong Kong’s biggest celebrities, made their appearances at this live-streamed event as a 10-foot-tall wedding cake kept them company. Even the carousel-shaped dessert wasn’t a simple decision considering the chefs took a month to create it. Architectural installations like a holographic castle, stained-glass window lights, and a giant wall of flowers adorned the location as guests were treated to elaborate gift bags containing cell phones and other “essentials”. Despite their success in hand-crafting a viral wedding, the couple eventually parted ways in 2022.

    4. Kate Middleton to Prince William – USD 33 million

In the months leading up to April 2011, all the world could fixate on was the upcoming British royal wedding. Kate Middleton, “commoner” by origin, was all set to join the imperial machinery after saying yes to her university boyfriend of nine years, Prince William of England. As close to 1,900 hand-picked guests made their way to the three-event ceremony – the wedding, out of which, was held at the landmark Westminster Abbey – over 160 million viewers from 188 countries watched alongside. Not only did Britain observe a national holiday for the monarchial matrimony, but celebratory events were also held in Canada and other Commonwealth nations. Despite the USD 800,000 price tag on the flowers or the USD 434,000 Sarah Burton-designed Alexander McQueen gown, the most significant expenditure in Kate and William’s wedding was security – accounting for USD 32 million of the total cost. If the logistics were an expensive affair, the couple ensured their guests were treated with nothing but the best. The reception menu boasted of fresh crabs sourced from Lyme Bay, Hebridean langoustines, North Highland organic lamb from Prince Charles‘s organic farm and a heavenly eight-tier fruit cake created by Fiona Cairns. Singer Ellie Goulding was asked to perform for William’s intimate dinner party. Even the decor at Westminster Abbey was reminiscent of a fairytale – six English Field Maple trees and two Hornbeam trees, all of which were 20 feet high, were incorporated into the church’s architecture as a long red carpet ran the length of the aisle from double the doors to the altar. With 72 million streams worldwide, the wedding was featured in the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records for the “Most Live Streams for a Single Event”, beating Michael Jackson’s memorial service in 2009.

    5. Madelaine Brockway and Jacob Lagrone – USD 59 million

Emerging from the depths of the internet, Madelaine and Jacob’s USD 59 million nuptials left TikTok users in a state of awe. Netizens combined their detective skills to uncover Madelaine’s background — only to discover she’s the heiress of car dealership tycoon, Robert “Bob” Brockway, who serves as the Chairman and CEO of Bill Ussery Motors. The extravagant Parisian wedding had to be the only way to celebrate the couple’s big day.

Madelaine Brockway and Jacob Lagrone‘s choice of location — Chateau de Villette astonished onlookers and social media users with its unprecedented decor. Madelaine, resplendent in a custom Dior haute couture gown adorned with Lily of the Valley – her favoured bloom, glided down the aisle, framed by the Chateau’s symmetry. The aisle led to a floating platform in the fountain where vows were exchanged, creating an epic tableau with the most Instagrammable backdrop.

Two meticulously constructed greenhouses, symmetrical to the Chateau, flanked the aisle. Dinner, hosted in a bespoke white greenhouse by Lecoperture, mirrored the couple’s commitment to a light aesthetic, with Lily of the Valley delicately embroidered on every table accessory — from napkins to the menus. The greenhouse was transformed into a vibrant nightclub for the after-party, featuring a sunken marble dance floor where the couple shared a first dance to Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved.” Of course, it was a live performance with Adam Levine in attendance!

Collaborating seamlessly with the couple, the wedding unfolded as a detailed and breathtaking spectacle, embracing Madelaine’s affection for the intricately designed staircases at Opera de Paris. Tablescapes, adorned with carefully chosen pastels and hand-painted porcelain by Marie Daâge, paid homage to centuries-old French artistry.

While TikTok labelled it the “wedding of the century”, the intense social media glare proved to be counterproductive as the news of Jacob being convicted of criminal charges began to circulate. In March, LaGrone was indicted for firing a gun at police officers, reported The Washington Post. If convicted, he could face between fewer than five years in prison to a life sentence. Since the news broke, Madelaine has made her social media accounts private.

    6. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – USD 63 million

Perhaps the beginning of the end, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding can easily be considered the turning point for modern British politics. An American actress by profession, Meghan’s biracial outsider status promised a departure from imperial traditions and the birth of a new mixed bloodline unseen within British royalty. The world watched with renewed hope as the couple made their way to St George’s Chapel in Windsor alongside a hand-selected roster of 600 guests. Two thousand others waited for them in the royal gardens with millions more tuning in globally for the historic event. Politicians, members of royalty, and Hollywood stars like George and Amal Clooney, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, James Corden, Sir Elton John, and countless others showed up. Some figures even estimated that the wedding generated USD 1.27 billion for the British economy, including an additional USD 382 million brought in by foreign tourists and USD 63.74 million spent on merchandise and souvenirs. To mark her last televised appearance as Miss Markle, Meghan chose a pristine silk organza gown designed by Clare Waight Keller under the aegis of the fashion house Givenchy. Cartier took care of the accessories department, dressing the would-be bride in their white gold and diamond earrings and bracelet while Dior’s make-up artist Daniel Martin did Markle’s look for the occasion. Apart from the bridal costs, orders for the cake, the florist, and the catering had been estimated by the BBC to cost £50,000, £110,000, and £286,000 respectively, all of which would be footed by the British royal family. ( USD 63,740, USD 140230, and USD 364,590 approximately) Two choirs, one orchestra, the chapel organ played by Luke Bond, and fanfare trumpeters were hired and provided the much-needed music for the event.

    7. Vanisha Mittal to Amit Bhattia – USD 65 million

Apart from inheriting a USD 16.6 billion fortune, Vanisha knew her last name carried the weight of her industrialist lineage. After all, being the only daughter of steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal translates to some perks like featuring on the list of the world’s most expensive weddings. Apart from turning a number of France’s iconic locations like the Palace of Versailles, Vaux-le-Vicomte, and Jardin de Tuileries into Indian dreamscapes, the six-day event in 2004 saw the popstar Kylie Minogue fill in the role of wedding performer. Her USD 254,600 fees was just one of the many bills settled by Mittal for the wedding – an event which saw 1,000 guests flown in from all over the world. Upon accepting the 20-page silver-plated invitation, invitees received flight tickets and 5-star accommodations at the Intercontinental Paris – Le Grand in exchange for their precious time. Father Mittal even rented out 12 Boeing jets to ferry his globetrotting guests, as well as the 35 Mumbai-based craftsmen responsible for erecting a massive mandap in the estate’s sprawling gardens. To execute the quintessential big fat Indian wedding, Bollywood forms an integral ingredient. Since with money comes power and with power comes influential friends, superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Akshay Kumar, Rani Mukherji, Juhi Chawla and Saif Ali Khan were obvious features on the glitzy guest list. Fireworks at the Eiffel Tower, over 100 dishes prepared by top Indian chefs and a wine bill reaching up to USD 2 million only go onto testify the massive wealth Mittal had amassed in his 28 year career. Indian couture designers Tarun Tahiliani, Suneet Varma and the duo Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla were helmed the outfit department as guests feasted on 100+ delicacies perfected by chef, Munna Maharaj. While the festivities earned Vanisha and Amit the title of “most expensive wedding” in the Guiness Book of World Records, the Mittal-Bhatia marriage ended in divorce in 2014.

As common folk queued outside ATMs in the wake of the BJP-backed decision to demonitise certain Indian currencies, the swanky wedding of Brahmani Reddy – daughter of mining baron G. Janardhan Reddy – attracted widespread criticism. Held at Bangalore’s Palace Grounds with a monumental guest list of 50,000 attendees, the Reddy nuptials saw several of the country’s aristocrats, politicians and celebrities flock to the venue. If the timing of the wedding appeared tone-deaf to netizens, it was the flashy LCD-screen invites that had created a storm earlier. Giant helium balloons with pictures of the family bobbed overhead at the venue while majestic replicas of Hampi’s Purandara temple, Lotus Mahal, Mahanavami Dibba and the Vijaya Vittala Temple welcomed the guests. At the ceremony itself, Brahmani took her pheras in a red and gold Kanjeevaram sari worth around USD 2.3 million. Her enviable jewellery pieces amounting for another USD 12 million. A task force of 3,000 security men and 500 bouncers in black suits surveilled the place. Almost every luxury hotel within a five-km radius of the venue was booked for guests. 500 dancers were also hand-picked from troupes in Chennai and Hyderabad. Even the two mechanical elephants flanking the entrance of the venue came with a rental cost of USD 850 per day, reported NDTV.

Born with a last name that needs no introduction, Isha Ambani’s multi-city, multi-event union with industrialist Anand Piramal in 2018 altered the existing landscape of celebrity weddings. The modern-day heiress with the very profitable Relaince Industries chalked into her inheritance began her bridal journey with a roka ceremony at her family’s multimillion-dollar Mumbai home, Antilia. “The wedding went off beautifully. Like any other bride, I had my share of bridal jitters but getting married at home made it very special and I had the time of my life celebrating my most memorable moments with all the people I love,” Isha revealed to Vogue India at the time. The real party began in Italy’s Lake Como a couple of weeks, where the couple celebrated their engagement with a luxurious daytime event. Out came Isha’s Dolce & Gabbana gown as performances by Indian favourites Shaan and Pritam, as well as award-winning singer-songwriter John Legend, entertained the celebrity guests. Perhaps the most indulgent expense from the pre-wedding ceremonies came in the form of a private performance by Beyoncé — the first of its kind for the musical legend. High-profile attendees like Hillary Clinton, Arianna Huffington, Nick Jonas, and Priyanka Chopra as a bevy of Bollywood big whigs like Shah Rukh Khan, members of the Kapoor clan, and other A-listers arrived in their best wedding wear. The date for the holy matrimony was finalised for December 12, 2018– giving production crews a generous seven months to pull of one of the world’s most expensive weddings.  Gold-encrusted invitations amounting to nearly USD 4,000 were sent out to the guests. On the day of the wedding, not only was the Ambani residence was decked with fresh blooms, even the street leading up to the venue was dotted with yellow and orange marigolds. Isha put designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla in-charge of her finale outfit – a 16-panel lehenga-choli, which reportedly came with a price tag of USD 12 million.

Held at London’s St Paul’s Cathedral, Lady Diana and Prince Charles‘ July wedding in 1981 was widely billed as a “fairytale”. At a time when the world was still two decades away from the internet, this British royal wedding amassed a staggering broadcast viewership of 750 million people worldwide. A total of 3,500 guests were invited to the stately affair, as two more million spectators lined the route of Diana’s procession. Three choirs and three orchestras played their tunes as the newest royal member walked the aisle in a USD 46,785-worth ivory silk taffeta dress, decorated with lace, hand embroidery, sequins, and 10,000 pearls. The designers credited for the exquisite design were British duo, Elizabeth and David Emanuel. Governors-generals of the Commonwealth nations, as well as many of the reigning European monarchs at the time, made their way to the English capital. Fireworks displays above Hyde Park and 100 beacons were lit up across the country to commemorate the royal wedding. Interestingly, the event saw a grand total of 27 cakes being presented to the couple. The cost of the wedding was later estimated to be USD 48 million in total (between USD 70 million and USD 110 million when adjusted for inflation), with USD 600,000 being spent on security alone.

Before it all went downhill for the Sahara head honcho, Subroto Roy enjoyed the status of pulling off the world’s most expensive wedding for his two sons, Seemanto and Sushanto. Dishing out a whopping USD 75 million in 2004, the double nuptials descended to Lucknow’s Sahara India township with an 11,000-strong guestlist. Naturally, the entire town underwent a major revamp to reflect the family’s love for contemporary aesthetics. The six-day extravaganza saw no stone left unturned– gold napkins welcoming guests upon arrival, a fleet of 200 Mercedes cars for inter-city transport, and chartering 27 of his company jets. For entertainment, there was live music by the British Symphony Orchestra while famous Indian choreographer Shiamak Davar took centre stage with a band of world-class dancers. A scrumptious array of over 100 different cuisines were prepared by the chefs at Taj Group of Hotels. While designers Rohit Bal and Sabyasachi designed for the families, Bollywood icons Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai mingled with the guests. In addition to the elaborate celebrations, Roy’s philanthropic offerings were extended to 150,000 homeless people. The family reportedly sponsored the marriages of 101 underprivileged girls as part of the festivities.

Taking the crown for the most expensive wedding in the world is Emirati royal Bin Rashid who married his first cousin, Princess Sheikha. Costing an eye-watering sum of USD 45 million in 1979, this week-long extravaganza was accompanied by a five-day nationwide holiday. When the prince first decided to wed, not many locations in Dubai could hold a gathering of over 20,000 guests. Unfazed, the family built the venue from the ground up and adorned it with traditional musicians, and dancers. A fleet of 20 camels embellished with jewels were utilised for delivering gifts to the bride. To arrange for similar fanfare today, the estimated cost would be close to USD 137 million.

The royal wedding was the first occasion in which Dubai’s Police Air Wing performed a public flying display. Five Macchi Jet Fighters flew in formation over Zabeel Palace whilst performing aerobatics. As the Grand Finale act, one of the fighter jets encircled the Dubai Trade Centre Building above as horseback riders trotted into formation below. The official inside photos of this upscale wedding were never released to the public.

While there has been considerable debate about the cost of this Mumbai-St.Moritz-hopping spectacle, there is unanimity in the view that several millions of dollars were spent. Features included a 300-strong pre-wedding bash in the Swiss Alps with musical performances by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and The Chainsmokers, private jets to ferry the prolific guests, 5-star accommodation, and an ostentatious display of couture ensembles– all culminating to a Mumbai-based ceremony that saw global leaders like former British PM Tony Blair, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and almost every other Bollywood star in attendance.

43% of Ghanaians are scared of taking financial risks due to DDEP, others – Report

A 2023 report released by Old Mutual financial services, 43 percent of Ghanaians were found to be ill-equipped to engage in any type of financial risk. This lack of preparedness was attributed to a general reluctance among citizens to take on financial risks.

The report, known as the Old Mutual Financial Services Monitor, also highlighted the influence of the government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Programme on the financial sector as a contributing factor to this trend.

However, it noted that only 24 percent of the Ghanaians surveyed were willing to undertake significant financial risks in pursuit of higher returns.

“Similarly, those who take above-average financial risks expecting to earn above-average returns are about 19%,” the report said.

According to the Old Mutual report, seven out of ten employed Ghanaians do not seek the assistance of a financial adviser for guidance on their finances.

As a result, approximately 46 percent of Ghanaians indicated uncertainty about where to seek financial advice.

Laryea Kingston denies allegations regarding Dede Ayew, Asamoah Gyan’s captaincy

Former Ghanaian footballer Laryea Kingston has refuted media claims suggesting that he accused Dede Ayew of using force to seize the captaincy from Asamoah Gyan.

Recent reports had surfaced indicating that Laryea Kingston, while discussing the Black Stars and their future, made a surprising statement.

According to Laryea, he expressed that former captain Asamoah Gyan was discontented due to his treatment and the manner in which the captaincy was transferred to Dede Ayew.

“Look at someone like Asamoah Gyan, Dede Ayew got the captaincy by force so if you are speaking to Asamoah now he is not happy,” he told Graphic Sport.

In a surprising turn of events, Laryea Kingston has refuted the alleged statement, asserting that he harbors no animosity towards the Ayews.

The former Hearts of Oak player clarified that his remarks were merely referencing his own experience of being denied the opportunity to play during the World Cup, despite his contributions to the country’s qualification efforts.

He emphasized that his comments in the interview should not be directly linked to the captaincy dispute between Asamoah Gyan and Dede Ayew.

“I was describing the trauma I went through during the days, I was mistreated for being denied the chance to play in the World Cup, not what has been attributed to me,” Kingston stated.

“I never mentioned the captaincy issue as has been attributed to me.”

Naira hits record low with N1,534/$ on official market

On Monday, the Nigerian naira plummeted to a historic low of N1,534 against the US dollar on the official Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market.

This represents a 3.93 percent decrease or N58 from the N1,476.13/$ rate recorded at the close of trading last week Friday, as reported by FMDQ Exchange, the platform for official foreign exchange trading in the country.

This latest official rate marks the lowest exchange rate since the Central Bank of Nigeria floated the national currency in June 2023. Meanwhile, on the parallel market, the naira was seen trading between N1,480 and N1,490 on Monday, suggesting a trend of higher rates in recent times, particularly following the revision of the methodology used by FMDQ to calculate the official exchange rate.

The adjustment in the methodology led to a significant depreciation of the naira, pushing it from over 900 naira per dollar to over 1,400 naira per dollar. In December, the naira surpassed the N1,000/$ mark on the official window, hitting an all-time low of N1,099.05/$ on December 8, 2023. Subsequent trading days saw further declines, with the naira closing at N1,043.09/$ on December 28, 2023, and N1,035.12/$ on January 3, 2024. In Abuja, currency traders, known as Bureau De Change operators, quoted the buying rate of the US dollar at N1,480 and the selling price at N1,503, marking a profit margin of N23.

Nigeria: Master bakers and Caterers Association threatens nationwide strike over unmet govt agreements

Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria has issued a warning, stating that it will initiate a nationwide service withdrawal from February 27 if the Federal government fails to implement an agreement reached with the association in 2020.

The association is demanding the immediate implementation of financial support palliatives promised by the Federal Government as post COVID-19 support programs for Small and Medium Enterprises. They highlight the significant loss suffered by bakers, with over 40 percent of their membership affected and still increasing.

Additionally, the association is calling for the suspension of all forms of taxation on the bakery industry at the federal, state, and local government levels.

In a statement delivered by the Kogi State Chairman of the association, Chief Gabriel Adeniyi, on behalf of the National President, Alhaji Mansur Umar, the decision to withdraw services is attributed to the perceived failure of the government to honor its commitments.

“multifarious increase in the prices of baking materials such as flour, sugar, yeast, vegetable oil, petrol, diesel all occasioned by subsidy removal and forex deregulation.”

The association said, “Multiple taxations from several federal, state, local government agencies fees and levies, hike in business activities in Nigeria are also some of the reasons for the impending strike action.”

The statement partly read, “The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria have critically accessed the state of our business operation, consequently demand the liberalisation of flour and sugar importation, reduction or total removal of import duties on major baking materials such as flour, sugar, butter, yeast etc as applicable to other commodities as have recently been done by the federal government and Provision of concessionary forex exchange to flour millers and other stakeholders as well as reduction of tariff on imported wheat and sugar.”

The development of wheat and sugar cane farming and processing in Nigeria, as well as the elimination of multiple taxes at all governmental levels, are among the association’s other demands.

In addition, the association demanded other measures that will facilitate business operations in the nation, such as the establishment of a price control and monitoring committee, as permitted by the recently amended constitution.

FDA to shutdown canteens of schools, hospitals, all corporate institutions without license

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a warning, stating that it reserves the right to shut down canteens and food service units in public institutions if they operate without a valid Food Hygiene Permit from the authority.

In light of this, the FDA has advised all unlicensed food service establishments to obtain the Food Hygiene Permit by February 29, 2024.

Failure to comply with this requirement may result in regulatory actions, including facility closures, fines, and potential criminal prosecutions.

As a result, it has recommended that canteens in schools, hospitals, and all corporate establishments ensure that their food service facilities “undergo inspection and receive licensing from the FDA.”

Additionally, it has urged them “to exclusively engage licensed caterers for corporate meetings/lunches and daily meals for students and patients.”

The authority emphasized that this warning is crucial to safeguard the public against the risk of disease transmission and potential outbreaks within the country or specific populations.

In a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the FDA, Dr. Delese Mimi Darko, institutions are advised “to mandate vendors seeking or awarded contracts to furnish valid Food Hygiene Permits as part of the institution’s requirements.”

Institutional canteens or caterers lacking Food Hygiene Permits are urged to promptly rectify their status by applying for the permit and facilitating food safety inspections of their facilities.

Currently, the National Assembly is in the process of amending the constitution, with the Constitutional Review Committee, chaired by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, set to be inaugurated on February 26, 2023.

‘I am hungry for impact, not media attention’ – Akesse Brempong

In the competitive realm of the music industry, artists often rely on constant publicity and media exposure to maintain their relevance and propel their careers to stardom.

The thirst for success and recognition drives many to extreme lengths, seeking global acclaim with every song release.

Yet, amidst this fervor for visibility, gospel singer Akesse Brempong stands apart with his unconventional approach.

In an interview with Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz, Brempong revealed his indifference towards a massive social media presence.

Rather than chasing after likes and followers, he opts to let his hard work and achievements speak for themselves, eschewing self-promotion for genuine talent and dedication.

Drawing inspiration from the teachings of Jesus, Brempong believes that genuine goodness and impactful actions naturally draw attention, resonating deeply with audiences beyond the confines of social media metrics.

“Jesus didn’t need media attention; He was media attention. When he enters a city, all he has to do is heal one leper. So, let your work speak for you,” he narrated.

In seeking to emulate the life of Jesus, the ‘Blessed’ hitmaker emphasized that his priority lies in the impact his music has on people’s lives.

He contends that his achievements naturally garner attention and recognition, obviating the need for self-promotion.

Addressing concerns about his reserved demeanor potentially impacting his visibility, Akesse Brempong responded by stating, “If you look at it the business way, it does; after all, you’re a musician, and people must see you do your thing. But if you look at it the ministry way, not at all.”

The singer recounted an inspiring anecdote in which a fan testified to experiencing healing after listening to one of his songs.

In light of such impactful moments, Akesse Brempong underscores his primary focus on the message conveyed through his music, rather than mere monetary gain.

However, he acknowledges the practical necessity of finances, particularly in ensuring his crew’s well-being and sustenance.

Their first encounter occurred shortly after their graduation from Harvard, both finding themselves at the same law firm—Michelle embarking on her career and Barack serving as a summer associate.

While Barack wasted no time in extending an invitation for a date, Michelle initially declined, deeming it somewhat tacky.

The “Made in Ghana” ambassador expressed that he would prefer if his wife openly confessed to him about any instances of cheating. For Okyeame Kwame, such transparency in their relationship would strengthen their love and bond.

During an interview with Bola Ray on StarChat, Okyeame Kwame emphasized that he would have even greater admiration for his wife if she admitted to being unfaithful.

“I’ll love my wife more if she tells me she cheated on me because it means I’m in a relationship with an honest human being” he said.

During a previous interview, the activist disclosed that his partner’s infidelity does not have a direct impact on him.

He elaborated that in a relationship, when one partner cheats on the other, it primarily affects the individual who committed the act.

According to him, engaging in unfaithful behavior reflects poorly on the person who is cheating rather than on the faithful partner.

  • Policies on taxes will determine who we vote for – Food and Beverage Association to presidential candidates

Policies on taxes will determine who we vote for – Food and Beverage Association to presidential candidates

The Ghanaian Food and Beverage Association (FABAG) has declared its readiness to throw its weight behind a presidential candidate who demonstrates a commitment to resolving the sector’s pressing issues and challenges.

John Awuni, Executive Chairman of FABAG, emphasized in a statement that the private sector, particularly the food and beverage industry, has been grappling with a plethora of taxes, leading to a continuous rise in overall tax burdens.

He highlighted the importance of hearing the stance of each political party’s flagbearer on taxes and policies that could benefit FABAG members and enhance their businesses.

Awuni expressed concern over the disillusionment prevailing within the private sector, with many businesses contemplating investment opportunities in neighboring countries like Togo and Cote d’Ivoire due to the unfavorable business environment in Ghana.

He lamented the erosion of working capital among businesses, which is dwindling day by day.

The statement underscored FABAG’s encouragement for its members to cast their votes in the upcoming elections based on the tax policies and initiatives proposed by each presidential aspirant, aiming to prioritize the sector’s growth and sustainability.

It said “Indeed, members of our association as well as our employees will be encouraged to vote based on how the various political parties commit to address the key concerns of the private sector. The sector is the engine of growth but currently, the engine is grinding to a halt. Business-friendly government policies which constitute fuel and lubricants of a healthy engine have gradually been replaced with business-killer policies. We would like to know how this engine will be re-ignited when a new administration takes power. How the sector will be revitalized needs to be clearly articulated and documented in manifestoes. Questions that beg the attention of those seeking the mandate of Ghanaians to govern are as follows: What will be the specific tax policies for imports, manufacturing, and the Service sector? How will they make the private sector genuinely profitable if given the mandate? At the moment, most players, including members of our apex association in the private sector feel unwelcomed by the government and viewed as though they are criminals for demanding a break from over-taxation. The attacks, mudslinging, and harassment are dispiriting. We don’t feel the backing and support of the State.”

The Association had earlier warned that the approval of three new taxes by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo could have detrimental effects on the business community in Ghana.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo gave his assent to three new tax bills on Monday, April 17, 2023. These bills had been recently passed by Parliament on Friday, March 31, 2023. The newly approved taxes include the Excise Duty Amendment Bill 2022, the Growth and Sustainability Levy Bill 2022, and the Income Tax Amendment Bill 2022.

The introduction of these new taxes has sparked reactions from Ghanaians, with many expressing concerns about their potential impact. Critics argue that the bills could lead to higher prices for goods and services, potentially pricing lower-income individuals and small business owners out of the digital economy.

These tax bills are projected to generate approximately GH¢4 billion in annual revenue. The government has defended the introduction of these taxes, stating that they are necessary to bolster domestic revenue and improve Ghana’s fiscal position in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Bawumia accused of fabricating lies about his father’s death

Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has accused Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of fabricating the circumstances surrounding his father’s death.

This allegation has sparked doubts about Bawumia’s credibility.

Bawumia had previously praised the advancements in Ghana’s healthcare system, highlighting the country’s possession of the largest medical drone delivery service in the world, operated by Ghanaian youth.

During an event in Accra where he outlined his vision for the country ahead of the 2024 elections, the 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) shared a personal anecdote about his father’s medical treatment.

He recounted a distressing incident when his father underwent surgery at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. In the middle of the night, as his father started losing blood, the doctors attempted to obtain blood from the hospital’s blood bank, but were unable to do so as it was closed.

“I tried to get the phone number of the one in charge and made several calls to no avail. We were running against time, and by the morning, my dad had died,” he said.

Driven by that harrowing incident, which Dr. Bawumia emphasized would forever remain etched in his memory, he was resolute in securing Zipline’s drone technology for Ghana. His goal was to prevent needless deaths and save lives through innovative means.

However, Inusah Fuseini argued that Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia did not die of illness as Dr. Bawumia claimed, but rather of natural causes.

He declared that Dr. Bawumia had misled the people.

  • I work with evidence so nobody orders me about – EOCO boss

I work with evidence so nobody orders me about – EOCO boss

The Executive Director of Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, has firmly stated that she operates without political interference in her investigative and prosecutorial duties.

This assertion comes in the wake of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) referring a suspected money laundering case involving former Water and Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah to EOCO for further action. The OSP had previously dropped charges against Dapaah citing insufficient evidence.

Addressing an anti-corruption forum, Ms. Addo-Danquah underscored her adherence to the rule of law, stating,

“Sometimes, when I hear people say I am handling a case and I have powers from above directing me, fortunately for me, I have not had that because you are guided by the law”.

“Nobody will direct you when you have evidence. It is when you don’t have evidence, when you haven’t been able to put evidence together then someone can tell you not to do this”, she said.

“But if you have done your work in such a way that you have evidence, very solid evidence, you just have to explain to the person that these are my evidence, these are A, B and C and they are solid and I am presenting it to the court”, she added.

“Nobody can stop you but we hide behind powers from above and we are put back and we disappoint the citizens but they have given you the mandate to do the job,” she explained.

She emphasized the necessity of concrete evidence in pursuing legal actions and reaffirmed her dedication to carrying out her mandate without external influence.

The case involving Ms. Dapaah has seen various developments, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s decision to drop charges against her and the subsequent dismissal of an application to confirm the seizure and freezing of her assets by the court.

Reports indicate that the Office of the Special Prosecutor was given a deadline to unfreeze Ms. Dapaah’s accounts and return seized funds.

Ms. Dapaah was apprehended in 2023 on suspicion of corruption following a reported theft at her residence. She stepped down from her ministerial position amid public outcry.

The ongoing trial involves Ms. Dapaah’s housemaids and other alleged accomplices accused of embezzling substantial sums from her home.

The intricacies of the case highlight the difficulties in combating corruption within Ghana’s political sphere.

Ms. Addo-Danquah’s comments seek to reassure the public of her office’s commitment to conducting impartial investigations and adhering to legal protocols.

Are you serious? – Akofa Edjeani recounts sexual harassment attempt by movie director

Seasoned Ghanaian actress, Akofa Edjeani, has bravely shared a troubling experience from her acting career, shedding light on the pervasive issue of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry.

During an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, the esteemed actress highlighted the prevalence of sexual harassment in the industry, describing it as a growing problem that requires urgent attention.

Edjeani opened up about the challenges women encounter in the entertainment sector, emphasizing the need to address this societal ill.

“I remember we were shooting somewhere after Kumasi, I think. Unfortunately, the producer was a Nigerian. We were going to shoot two movies back to back.

So based on that, the executive producer had begged me to bring my rates down, that because we were doing two movies he would pay a certain amount, which reluctantly I agreed to.

Now here is the director who asked me to come to his room. I said ‘come to your room and do what?’.

He said ‘to watch a movie’. I said ‘watch what movie? I mean come on, whatever you want to tell me, I don’t need to come to your room’. Apparently, he wanted something else. I said ‘like seriously?’ Are you serious?

The actress who doubles as a producer detailed that she was not cast for the second movie because she did not consent to the director’s sexual demands.

“I didn’t go to his room and guess what, that caused me the next movie. And when I asked the executive producer he said it was the director who was casting but I said ‘you were paying me this amount because we agreed on shooting two movies’.

And he said there was nothing he could do about it because it was the director that did the casting,” she emphasizied.

My trip abroad was for shopping perfumes not for fixing my marriage – Big Akwes

Popular Ghanaian actor, Big Akwes, has addressed rumors surrounding his recent trip abroad, clarifying that his journey was solely for business purposes and not related to his marriage, as speculated.

Initial reports suggested that Big Akwes’ wife facilitated his travel to Germany, where he allegedly went to fix his marriage.

However, rumors circulated that due to his alleged insubordination, his wife had sent him packing, leading to the breakdown of their six-month marriage.

In a recent interview, Big Akwes debunked these rumors, emphasizing that his travel had no connection to his marital issues.

He explained that he traveled abroad to purchase perfumes and other items for commercial purposes, not to address personal matters.

To support his claims, Big Akwes displayed a bag filled with sanitary items, which he intends to ship to Ghana to stock up his shops.

This evidence aims to substantiate his assertion that his trip was solely for business endeavors and not related to his marriage.

Regarding his marriage, Big Akwes disclosed that he had indeed experienced a difficult period with his spouse, which led to their split.

He insisted, though, that the unfavorable stories regarding his marriage do not accurately reflect the actual circumstances.

A while back, Freda, the wife of Kumawood actor Big Akwes, made some comments regarding her relationship with Big Akwes in the midst of rumors of miscommunication and marital issues.

Despite the circulating rumors of a split, neither Big Akwes nor his spouse have formally acknowledged or refuted the reports of their unstable marriage.

7 items you should never leave in your Car

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, our cars often become makeshift storage units for various items. However, not everything is suitable for the conditions inside a vehicle. Here are seven things you should avoid leaving in your car:

Electronics: Extreme temperatures can damage the batteries and internal components of electronic devices like laptops, smartphones, and cameras. Avoid leaving them in your car to prevent potential damage.

Medication: High temperatures can alter the chemical composition of medications, reducing their effectiveness. It’s essential to store medications at room temperature as prescribed to maintain their potency.

Sunglasses: Despite being handy for sunny days, sunglasses can warp and suffer damage from heat, especially if they have plastic frames. Keep them with you or in a cooler spot to prevent damage.

Aerosol cans: Aerosol cans, such as deodorants and hairsprays, can pose a safety risk when exposed to high temperatures. The pressure inside the can may increase, leading to potential explosions. Avoid leaving them in your car to prevent accidents.

Plastic bottles: Heat can cause chemicals from plastic bottles to leach into the liquid inside, posing health risks. Take your water bottle with you instead of leaving it in the car to avoid potential exposure to harmful substances.

Food: Leaving food in your car can lead to spoilage and attract pests. Avoid leaving groceries or leftovers in your car, especially on hot days, to prevent food from going bad and attracting unwanted visitors.

Important documents: Avoid leaving crucial documents like passports or birth certificates in your car, as they can be damaged by heat and are also attractive to thieves. Keep them in a secure location to prevent loss or theft.

Remember, your car is meant for transportation, not long-term storage. By keeping these items out of your vehicle, you’ll avoid potential damage, accidents, and security risks. Keep your car clutter-free and maintain its condition by being mindful of what you leave inside.

Sanremo Italian Song Festival under fire over rapper Ghali’s appeals to “stop genocide”

Italy’s Sanremo Italian song festival, renowned as the country’s premier showbiz event, faced criticism from Israel following a controversial statement made by a rapper during the contest’s final.

Alon Bar, Israel’s ambassador to Italy, expressed disapproval of the festival, which garners millions of TV viewers and determines Italy’s representative for the Eurovision song contest.

He accused the event of being exploited to “spread hatred and provocation in a superficial, irresponsible way” after rapper Ghali appealed to “stop genocide” during his stage performance.

Despite the festival’s widespread popularity, the incident sparked debate and raised questions about the appropriate platform for political statements within entertainment events.

“In the October 7 massacre, among the 1,200 victims were over 360 young people slaughtered and raped during the Nova music festival,” Bar posted to social media. “Another 40 of them were kidnapped and are still in the hands of the terrorists. The Sanremo festival could have expressed solidarity with them. It is a shame this didn’t happen.”

Noemi Di Segni, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, expressed disappointment that the platform wasn’t used to appeal for the release of the hostages, stating, “They too have the right to their music and to return to their homes.”

Amid the controversy, Roberto Sergio, CEO of the state-owned broadcaster Rai, which airs the festival, expressed solidarity “with the people of Israel and the Jewish community.” He affirmed that the network’s programs regularly cover the plight of the hostages held by Hamas and would continue to do so, while also commemorating the October 7 “massacre.”

In response to Alon Bar’s criticism, Ghali, whose parents immigrated to Italy from Tunisia, stated on the Rai talk show Domenica In: “I have always spoken about these issues, since I was a child, not since October 7 … the fact that the ambassador speaks like this is not good. The policy of terror continues, people are afraid to say stop the war, stop the genocide, we are living in a moment in which people feel that they are losing something if they say long live peace.”

Palestinian authority denounces Israeli airstrikes in Rafah as “Massacre”

In a statement released on [date], the ministry criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of orchestrating “mass massacres” driven by a desire for revenge rather than victory and in violation of international law.

Doctor expresses concern for 25 family members trapped in Rafah amid Israeli airstrikes

British Palestinian doctor, Dr. Salim Ghayyda, expresses deep concern as 25 of his family members remain trapped in Rafah, where Israeli airstrikes claimed the lives of dozens overnight.

In an interview with the BBC’s Good Morning Scotland program, Dr. Ghayyda reveals that his relatives are cramped in a small flat along with 25 other individuals, including children. The dire living conditions force all 50 occupants to sleep on the floor, with the constant sound of exploding bombs disrupting their rest.

Dr. Ghayyda explains that his brother, a nurse, has transformed the flat into an improvised health facility, given that all other clinics in the area have been “dismantled and destroyed.”

As a consultant pediatrician in Inverness, Dr. Ghayyda describes the situation as “unbearable,” particularly as he worries about the safety and well-being of his family, including a nephew battling cancer.

“He has no idea whether his cancer is spreading or not. One of my nephews is autistic, so imagine the meltdown he goes into every time he hears the noises around him.”

” There is nothing in their life at the moment that you could consider a life. Water is contaminated, they have one meal a day, they have all become malnourished – especially the children.”

“They have got no idea what time of the day they are going to be killed. It’s unbearable to be honest.”

Court orders Dutch to halt export of F-35 jet parts to Israel

Fresh updates from Europe reveal that an appeals court in the Netherlands has made a decisive ruling, ordering the cessation of the Dutch government’s export of F-35 fighter jet components to Israel.

This ruling comes in response to a case filed against the Dutch government by various human rights organizations, including the Dutch branch of Oxfam, last December.

The plaintiffs argued that the transit of F-35 parts through the Netherlands violates the laws of war, as the Dutch government is aware that these fighter planes are deployed in attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The US-owned parts are stored in a regional warehouse in Woensdrecht and subsequently shipped to multiple countries, including Israel.

Previously, a district court had deemed the export primarily a political decision, asserting that judges should refrain from interference.

However, this morning, the appeals court delivered a different verdict, stating in its judgment: “It is indisputable that there is a clear risk that the exported F-35 parts are used in serious violations of international humanitarian law.”

I hope my daughter grows up to see me as her God, just like my son – Mzbel

Ghanaian media personality and entrepreneur Mzbel has stirred controversy by discussing her son’s disbelief in God.

In a recent interview, Mzbel disclosed that her son does not adhere to any religious beliefs; instead, he regards her as his guiding force.

  • Facts about eagles that were unknown to you

Facts about eagles that were unknown to you

Eagles, the magnificent rulers of the sky, have always captivated our imagination with their elegance and power.

Despite their awe-inspiring presence, there are a few lesser-known facts about these formidable birds of prey. Let’s explore some intriguing tidbits about eagles that might surprise you.

    No Night Vision

While eagles possess exceptional vision, navigating in total darkness isn’t their forte. They rely on daylight or ambient light to hunt, underscoring the fact that even the mightiest creatures need some illumination.

Taste Buds? Not on Their Tongues

Unlike humans, eagles don’t taste their food. They lack taste buds on their tongues, prioritizing sustenance over culinary enjoyment.

    No Reverse Gear

Eagles can’t fly backward. Unlike hummingbirds, their wing structure and flight mechanics are tailored for soaring and gliding, not for agile backward movements.

    Hovering Isn’t Their Forte

While eagles are adept at utilizing thermal updrafts to glide effortlessly, hovering in still air like some other birds is beyond their capabilities. They excel in long-distance flight rather than delicate aerial maneuvers.

    Vertical Takeoff? Not Quite

Eagles need a running start or a perch to launch into the air. Achieving a dramatic vertical takeoff akin to some other birds is more fantasy than reality for them.

    No Tree Climbing Skills

While eagles can perch and nest at considerable heights, climbing trees with the agility of woodpeckers isn’t part of their repertoire. They rely on their talons and wings for maneuvering rather than climbing vertically.

Despite these limitations, eagles remain symbols of strength and freedom, intriguing us with their real-life capabilities.

They serve as a reminder that in nature, it’s not about what you can’t do but what you can do that defines you.

So, the next time you spot an eagle soaring overhead, reflect on these fascinating facts and admire the unique adaptations that make them the undisputed rulers of the skies.
