Blakk Rasta commends Afenyo-Markin for placing Ghana’s interests above party politics

Reggae musician and media personality BlaKk Rasta has lauded Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, for prioritizing the welfare of Ghanaians over the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to BlaKk Rasta, Afenyo-Markin demonstrated integrity by declining the offer to chair the Appointments Committee, a decision that, in his view, showed commitment to national interest rather than partisan loyalty.

“Much as I want to congratulate Afenyo-Markin on these bold steps, I would also like to say something else. It’s not easy for a man so partisan to come out and speak against his own caucus in one way or the other. In politics, there is nothing like regret, apology, or the nation. It is all about the political party,” he remarked during an interview on 3FM.

He emphasized that the Speaker of Parliament had nominated Afenyo-Markin for the role, suggesting that the minority caucus would have been better positioned to scrutinize ministerial appointments effectively.

“The Speaker of Parliament says let the Minority Leader chair the Appointments Committee because when they are in opposition, that is when they like to bite the deepest. It’s time for them to think of the nation rather than a political party. In our nation, it is no more about the country but that of the political party. His caucus believed that it would not serve the interest of the nation but rather the political party,” he stated.

However, BlaKk Rasta did not hold back in condemning the chaotic scenes that unfolded during the vetting process, where some parliamentarians resorted to vandalizing property.

“They turned it down only to go there and break the legs of tables and microphones like some vandals with no training at home. Shame on you. Some dirty vandals,” he fumed.

Questioning the accountability of those involved, he further asked, “Are they paying for the microphones and broken tables, or would they just walk away for free because in this country, we don’t respect probity and accountability?”

I will turn down any appointment offer – Mzbel

Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur Mzbel has made it clear that she has no interest in holding any government position, stating that she would turn down an appointment even if offered by the president.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz, the “16 Years” hitmaker emphasized that her decision is rooted in a desire to maintain her peace of mind and avoid public scrutiny linking her success to politics.

“The truth is, I would turn down an appointment even if the president called me because I value my peace of mind. I don’t want people to attribute my success to politics because I work very hard,” she stated.

Mzbel, who has been vocal about her political affiliations in the past, highlighted the challenges that come with such engagements, particularly the perception that political connections fuel personal achievements.

“For example, if I travel for my own show, people will say, ‘She’s using taxpayers’ money. Politics has made her who she is.’ I don’t want that,” she added.

Over the years, the singer has been linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), openly endorsing the party and its leadership. However, her latest remarks suggest a shift in focus towards her personal and professional growth, devoid of political entanglements.

Mzbel continues to thrive as a musician and entrepreneur, with her business ventures, including her Bel Jam Records label and other enterprises, solidifying her position as an independent success.

Her comments have sparked discussions on the intersection of entertainment and politics in Ghana, with some supporting her stance while others argue that entertainers should be open to contributing to national development through political appointments.

  • He must apologize – Prince David Osei to minister on “daughter of a murderer” comment in Parliament

He must apologize – Prince David Osei to minister on “daughter of a murderer” comment in Parliament

Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has expressed strong disapproval of recent remarks made in Parliament, emphasizing the need for decorum in national discussions.

The controversy surrounding the “daughter of a murderer” comment in Parliament centers on a derogatory remark directed at Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle and daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

The incident occurred during a parliamentary session on February 4, amid heated discussions commemorating the 60th anniversary of Joseph Boakye Danquah’s death.

As Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin addressed the House, an unidentified male voice from the parliamentary backbench interrupted, shouting, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”

The comment insinuated that Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ father was responsible for past political killings, a claim that has been a subject of historical debate.

In a post shared on social media, the actor described the comment—widely believed to be directed at the daughter of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah—as “unacceptable and inappropriate.” He further urged the individual responsible for the statement to offer an apology.

“This behavior is unacceptable and inappropriate. Let’s maintain civility and decorum in our cabinet and parliamentary discussions. The individual who made those remarks should issue an apology,” Osei wrote.

The controversy erupted when an MP allegedly referred to Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, a legislator and daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, as the “daughter of a murderer” during a heated debate in Parliament. The comment has since sparked public outrage, with many calling for retractions and disciplinary action.

Prince David Osei, known for his outspoken views on national issues, joins a growing list of public figures condemning the statement and calling for higher standards of political discourse in the country.

Neither the MP in question nor Parliament has officially responded to demands for an apology. However, the backlash continues to mount, with Ghanaians urging leaders to uphold respectful dialogue in governance.

I heard voices discouraging me during my speech-a-thon attempt – Adu Safowaah

Ghanaian media personality and entrepreneur Adu Safowaah has revealed that she was spiritually attacked during her speech-a-thon attempt in February 2024.

Recounting the incident, Safowaah disclosed that after hours of speaking on stage, she decided to take a short break at a doctor’s tent around 8 p.m. when an overwhelming heaviness suddenly took over her body.

“On the second day, I had gone on a 20-minute break after speaking for four hours. That was around 8 p.m. So I was sitting at the doctor’s tent when I started feeling heavy,” she narrated.

As she tried to comprehend what was happening, she claimed to have heard a mysterious voice issuing a chilling warning.

“Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘I will not allow you to leave this place to continue whatever you’re doing,’” she recalled.

Frightened by the eerie encounter, Safowaah immediately reached out to her manager for support. According to her, he reassured her of divine protection and took swift action to pray for her.

“He quickly told me that I cannot lose myself when there is God. Then he held me and started praying for me until I recovered. Then I got up and went back to the stage to continue,” she added.

Safowaah’s revelation has sparked discussions about the possible spiritual or psychological implications of such experiences, with many attributing it to exhaustion, stress, or unseen forces at play.

Despite the ordeal, she remained resilient, returning to the stage to complete her duties, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her craft.

Play 70% of Ghanaian music to promote Heritage Month – KOD urges

Renowned Ghanaian media personality and fashion icon Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) has called on media houses, event organizers, and the general public to prioritize Ghanaian music during Heritage Month in March.

In a passionate appeal, KOD urged stakeholders in the entertainment industry to dedicate at least 70% of their playlists to Ghanaian music as part of efforts to celebrate the country’s rich cultural heritage.

“Heritage Month is a call for everyone to show how proud they are as Ghanaians. For this month of March, please let us prioritize Ghanaian music. I urge us to play at least 70% Ghanaian music,” he stated.

Emphasizing the abundance of local music available, he dismissed any concerns about a limited playlist, urging DJs, radio stations, and event curators to take full advantage of the diverse genres and talents Ghana has to offer.

“We have enough music in our collection to keep us going for the entire month,” he noted.

Beyond music, KOD highlighted the broader goal of fostering national unity and identity through cultural appreciation. He encouraged all Ghanaians to contribute in their own way towards building a country they can be proud of.

“We have a beautiful country to build together. Let’s all work towards creating the Ghana we want,” he added.

Heritage Month, celebrated annually in March, serves as a period of reflection on Ghana’s history, traditions, and artistic expressions. KOD’s call aligns with ongoing efforts to promote Ghanaian creativity and ensure local content thrives in an industry often dominated by foreign influences.

His advocacy adds to the conversation on the need for policies and initiatives that support homegrown talent, reinforcing the idea that promoting Ghanaian music is not just about entertainment but a step toward national development.

Canada, Ghana secure landmark air transport deal, allowing 14 weekly passenger flights

Canada and Ghana have signed their first-ever air transport agreement, a move expected to boost travel, tourism, and trade between the two countries.

GCB Bank records highest-ever profit of GHS 1.91bn in 2024

GCB Bank PLC has reported its highest-ever profit before tax of GHS 1.91 billion for the 2024 financial year, a 25.3% increase from the previous year.

This growth comes despite economic challenges and regulatory changes affecting the banking sector.

GCB Bank plans to continue investing in technology, customer service, and market expansion to sustain its growth momentum in the coming years.

Fisherfolk to ditch premix fuel as gov’t introduces rechargeable boat engines

Fisherfolk in Ghana will soon switch from using expensive premix fuel to rechargeable outboard motors as the government rolls out a pilot project to introduce renewable energy-powered boat engines.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, aims to cut down fuel costs and reduce pollution.

Energy Minister John Jinapor, speaking at a four-day policy dialogue themed “Accelerating Energy Transition in Ghana,” and hosted by the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), emphasized the project’s benefits.

“Most of our fisherfolk use what we call premix, which is essentially a mixture of petrol and oil. However, new technology now allows the use of rechargeable outboard motors, even with solar panels,” he explained.

The minister highlighted that similar projects have been successfully implemented in other countries, and Ghana is taking steps to follow suit.

“This pilot project will transition many of our fisherfolk  fisherfolk will switch from fossil fuel-based outboard motors to rechargeable, renewable outboard motors,” he added.

The transition to renewable energy for fishing is expected to provide long-term savings for fisherfolk while contributing to Ghana’s efforts to lower carbon emissions.

The policy dialogue is scheduled to run from March 5 to 8, 2025, in Accra, bringing together policymakers, researchers, and investors to discuss the country’s energy future.

Last year, the Director of Environment and Natural Resource Research Initiative (ENRRI-EfD Ghana) Professor Wisdom Akpalu, reprted that 90 per cent of fisherfolks in a study conducted by his outfit want the premix subsidy removed.

He mentioned that concerns were raised over the framework of allocating premix fuel subsidy, as it was often fraught with numerous challenges, notably shortages and diversion.

On the above basis, Vice Chairperson of Ghana National Canoe Fishing Council, was certain that subsidy on premix fuel needed to be withdrawn by the Government.

Hence, the new initiative if successfully implemented, could mark a significant step towards reducing Ghana’s reliance on fossil fuels while improving the livelihoods of coastal communities.

Jesse Eisenberg receives Polish citizenship for honoring Jewish history in film

Hollywood actor Jesse Eisenberg has officially become a Polish citizen, granted by President Andrzej Duda in recognition of his efforts to highlight Jewish history in his Oscar-winning film A Real Pain.

Eisenberg, who wrote, directed, and starred in the movie, tells the story of two American cousins traveling to Poland to pay tribute to their grandmother, a Holocaust survivor. The character was inspired by his own great aunt.

Speaking at the citizenship ceremony, Eisenberg reflected on his deepening connection with Poland during filming. “As I walked through the streets and grew more familiar with this place, I realized something striking—my family lived here for generations, far longer than we’ve been in New York,” he said.

He acknowledged the painful history that severed those ties. “Beyond the tragedy itself, there was also the loss of connection. My family no longer felt linked to Poland, and that saddened me. It made me determined to reconnect in any way I could,” he shared. “I hope that tonight, through this incredible honor, is the beginning of that journey for me and my family.”

Kieran Culkin won an Oscar on Sunday for playing Eisenberg’s on-screen cousin in A Real Pain

Eisenberg’s inspiration for A Real Pain came after the passing of his great aunt Doris at the age of 106 in 2019. She had fled Poland for the U.S. in 1938, but relatives who remained behind perished in the Holocaust.

President Duda expressed his admiration for Eisenberg’s decision to embrace his heritage. “It’s wonderful to see people from across the ocean recognize their roots, honor their ancestors, and seek to build a connection with Poland,” he remarked.

The film received critical acclaim, earning Eisenberg an Oscar nomination for writing, while his co-star, Kieran Culkin, won the award for Best Supporting Actor.

Videos from the movie set have gone viral on TikTok, showing the two actors engaged in heated yet comical scenes, sparking excitement among fans.

This unexpected collaboration has drawn attention due to the long-standing tensions between Lil Win and Dr Likee’s camp. Over the years, their relationship has been marked by public disagreements and rivalry.

Lil Win has previously stated that he played a significant role in the success of many Ghanaian YouTubers, including members of Dr Likee’s team. • Actor Michael Sheen wipes out £1M in debt to support South Wales residents

Actor Michael Sheen wipes out £1M in debt to support South Wales residents

Hollywood actor Michael Sheen has stepped in to relieve financial burdens for struggling individuals in South Wales, personally investing £100,000 to clear £1 million worth of debt for 900 people.

The initiative, which took two years to materialize, is the focus of a new Channel 4 documentary, Michael Sheen’s Secret Million Pound Giveaway, set to air on March 10. The film exposes how financial institutions profit from the debt of vulnerable individuals.

Sheen, who had little knowledge of how debt acquisition worked, described the system as “bizarre” but saw an opportunity to make a difference.

“I had no idea how it worked,” he admitted. “It seemed like a good thing to do.”

Debt-buying companies purchase bundled debts at reduced prices, even though the original amount owed by individuals remains unchanged. Sheen leveraged this system by setting up a debt acquisition company—without his name attached—to buy £1 million of debt at a lower value using his own money.

“I would never know who they are—I still don’t know who they are,” he explained, adding that he only knew the location and type of debt involved.

The actor almost abandoned the project due to its complexity and secrecy. However, a visit to a café in his hometown of Port Talbot, as the local steelworks prepared to close, changed his mind.

“The woman who worked at the café we were filming in told me the story of the men sitting on every table in tears, who were losing their jobs,” Sheen recalled. “Then, it really hit home. I just thought, anything I can do [to help].”

The closure of Port Talbot’s last blast furnace marked the end of traditional steelmaking in South Wales and led to the loss of 2,800 jobs. The financial and emotional toll on the community reinforced Sheen’s commitment to the initiative.

Sheen, known for roles in Frost/Nixon and The Damned United, has long been dedicated to philanthropy. In 2021, he declared himself a “not-for-profit” actor, vowing to use his earnings to fund charitable causes.

Previously, he sold his homes to ensure the 2019 Homeless World Cup in Cardiff went ahead. More recently, he pledged support for a new theatre company after National Theatre Wales folded.

With the debt relief project now completed, Sheen encouraged people to check their accounts, as some beneficiaries might be unaware their debts have been cleared due to the stigma surrounding financial struggles.

Sheen, from Port Talbot has performed in theatre venues across the world – including the Sydney Opera House

During the making of the documentary, the process became far more complicated than he anticipated.

“I thought I would only work on this for a few weeks or a month or something, and it turned into two years, because we had to do it secretly,” he said.

Sheen added that setting up the company took so long that at a one point he felt like he wasn’t going to be able to keep doing it.

His mindset changed after filming in a cafe in his hometown of Port Talbot as the local steelworks prepared to close.

“The woman who worked at the cafe we were filming in told me the story of the men sitting on every table in tears, who were losing their jobs,” he said.

“And I just thought – then, it really hits home, I just thought anything I can do [to help]”.

The hour-long documentary will air on Channel 4 on Monday 10 March – five months after the last remaining blast furnace was closed in Port Talbot – which brought an end to the traditional method of steelmaking in south Wales.

As a result, Tata Steel announced that 2,800 jobs were going to be cut which created uncertainty and stress for many families.

Currently, Sheen confirmed that he has helped 900 people with their debts across South Wales.

He added that due to the “stigma” around discussing money, some people might not even realise their debts have been paid off, and therefore he urged people to check their accounts.

  • Should we keep making excuses or fix what’s wrong? – Leila Djansi asks movie industry players

Should we keep making excuses or fix what’s wrong? – Leila Djansi asks movie industry players

Renowned Ghanaian filmmaker Leila Djansi has sparked a debate among industry players, questioning whether they will continue making excuses for the state of Ghana’s film industry or take action to improve it.

“Good and bad can coexist in anything. But at what point do we stop excusing the bad and start fixing it?” she asked in a Facebook post, calling for a shift from complacency to progress.

Djansi criticized the industry’s reluctance to embrace constructive criticism, urging filmmakers to compare their work with productions from other African countries such as Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, and South Africa.

“Take two of your most recent critically acclaimed films from the previous three years and compare them to two from Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, and South Africa. Look at them side by side and ask yourself if we are actually gaining any momentum,” she challenged.

She lamented that since Azali’s Oscar submission in 2018, Ghana’s subsequent entries have not been up to standard.

“In 2018, we got Azali for the Oscars, and since then, every single submission has been a joke. A literal joke. Some of the films would convince you to burn your Ghana card,” she stated.

Djansi stressed that the problem is not a lack of talent but an unwillingness to elevate the industry through hard work and innovation.

Sharing a personal experience, she recalled how a Creative Artists Agency (CAA) agent once critiqued her storytelling approach. Instead of dismissing the feedback, she took it as an opportunity to grow.

“What he actually said to me was, ‘Go take risks with your storytelling.’ I grew up,” she revealed.

She urged filmmakers to stop dismissing criticism as hate or jealousy and instead use it as a tool for improvement.

“Stop enduring mediocrity, please. Instead of these knee-jerk reactions, instead of acting like people just want to hate, forget the who and the how and actually listen. Sit with the criticism. Use it to rise,” Djansi advised.

With her bold remarks, Djansi hopes to ignite a mindset shift in the Ghanaian film industry, pushing creatives to move beyond excuses and take the necessary steps to compete on the global stage.

There’s no point waiting for your wife to cook for you from work while at home idle – Abena Moet tells men

Ghanaian media personality Abena Moet has stood by her stance on gender roles in relationships, stating that men who remain idle at home should not expect their wives to cook for them after a long day at work.

Her comments, which went viral after a TV show discussion, sparked backlash on social media, with critics accusing her of being insensitive and disrespectful toward her husband.

However, addressing the controversy on Neat FM on March 3, 2025, Moet clarified that her remarks were misinterpreted.

“If it only affected me, I wouldn’t be bothered, but it has affected my king, the man in my life, and that really bothers me now,” she stated.

According to her, the discussion was based on a scenario where a husband stays home all day while his wife is out working. She questioned why such a man would wait for his wife to return before eating.

“I still stand by what I said because it was taken out of context. I clearly stated that if the man is at home all day while his wife is at work and only returns at, say, 10 p.m., what is the point of him waiting for her before eating? Why can’t he do something for himself? I don’t see any sense in that kind of thinking,” she emphasized.

Moet further explained that the debate was part of a structured show and not a reflection of her personal life, urging the public to understand the context rather than misjudge her words.

God has protected me from all attacks since I became born-again – Nana Agradaa

Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Nana Agradaa has credited her survival against numerous attacks to divine protection.

She asserts that since embracing Christianity, powerful individuals have persistently targeted her, yet none have succeeded in bringing her down.

In a video making rounds online on March 4, 2025, she claimed that those who opposed her have faced dire consequences, including the loss of their positions and influence.

“I am a child of God now, I move by faith and not by sight. I believe in God, so I am protected by God. There were some leaders who touched me, and now they regret treating me like a dog,” she declared.

Agradaa further alleged that her adversaries have paid the price for their actions, as many have lost the power they once held.

“Because of what they did to me, a lot of them are losing their positions. I am still here, despite everything they did to me,” she added.

Her remarks suggest that she considers herself under divine shield, warning that anyone who dares to attack her will ultimately face regret.

  • You have yourself to blame for not seeking the board in your dealings – FOCAP to Juliet Asante

You have yourself to blame for not seeking the board in your dealings – FOCAP to Juliet Asante

The Foundation of Concerned Arts Professionals (FOCAP) has criticized Juliet Asante, the former Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), for her recent remarks about the challenges she faced during her tenure.

The group insists that she is responsible for any difficulties encountered due to her failure to engage the NFA board in her decisions.

Asante, in a Facebook post on March 2, 2025, disclosed that her time in office was marked by financial struggles, lack of support, and instances of sexual harassment.

However, FOCAP has dismissed her claims, arguing that a leader who claims to be strong should have raised these concerns while in office.

FOCAP President Kojo Preko Dankwa questioned Asante’s approach to leadership, emphasizing that she did not properly involve the board in her dealings.

“To come out and pretend to seek public sympathy and make it seem like you were trying to do something for the industry but were not given support from the board—the question is, did you consult the board in all your dealings?” he asked.

The group also accused Asante of presenting a one-sided narrative, alleging that she often disregarded directives from the board, made unilateral decisions, and failed to collaborate effectively.

“So, for me, it is neither here nor there for Juliet to come out and speak the way she did, clamoring for sympathy, which is not needed,” Dankwa added.

His sentiments were echoed by filmmaker and NFA board member Ola Michael, who also criticized Asante for speaking out only after leaving office.

  • NPP’s 2020 election performance remarkable despite seat losses – John Boadu

NPP’s 2020 election performance remarkable despite seat losses – John Boadu

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has described the party’s performance in the 2020 general elections as remarkable, despite a reduction in its parliamentary seats.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show on Wednesday, March 5, Mr. Boadu acknowledged the decline in the party’s parliamentary majority but maintained that the NPP performed well under the circumstances.

“Even though our parliamentary numbers reduced, our party members did extremely well during the 2020 elections,” he stated.

He attributed the party’s ability to secure victory to its resilience and the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, particularly in handling the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, the government’s effective management of the crisis helped maintain public confidence in the party.

“We were also lucky because Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo managed the COVID situation excellently,” Mr. Boadu added, emphasizing that this played a crucial role in securing voter support.

Addressing concerns about economic hardships, he noted that while challenges existed, it was ultimately the government’s responsibility to address them.

“If there were any hardships, it was the government that is to be blamed,” he remarked.

Mr. Boadu further pointed out that the 2020 elections were particularly difficult for incumbent parties, as no sitting government secured re-election during that period.

“Ask yourself why there was no sitting government’s party that won the election during the 2020 election,” he said, stressing that the NPP’s ability to retain power despite this trend was commendable.

He urged party members to remain focused and work towards strengthening the NPP ahead of future elections, ensuring that the party continues to build on its successes.

TiC to headline Ghana Independence Day Party in Lagos on March 8

Renowned Ghanaian musician TiC, known in private life as Nana Kweku Okyere Duah, is set to thrill fans in Nigeria as he headlines the Ghana Independence Day Party in Lagos on March 8, 2025.

The event, slated for Lounge 38, will feature an exciting lineup of Ghanaian artists, including Nero X, Samuel G, and 1st Born. On the turntables, Ghana’s DJ Toyor and Nigeria’s celebrated DJ Humility will entertain patrons with a mix of both countries’ finest sounds.

TiC explained that the initiative aims to strengthen Ghana-Nigeria relations in the music industry and is expected to become an annual celebration.

“Think about it; after all the talk in Ghana that we support Nigerian music, but they don’t reciprocate, we have not aggressively pushed the boundaries to even hold an Independence Day event there,” he remarked.

According to him, Nigerians appreciate Ghanaian music, but it is up to Ghanaians to take bold steps in promoting their sound within Nigeria’s vibrant music scene.

“Just check the number of Ghanaians there and Nigerians who love our music,” he pointed out. “Now, the stage is set for a new dawn, and I have set the ball rolling.”

TiC urged industry stakeholders to support the initiative, emphasizing that such efforts will create more opportunities for Ghanaian music to gain wider recognition in Nigeria.

Having flown Ghana’s flag high on international stages for years, TiC continues to make a strong impact beyond the country’s borders.

A video has surfaced on social media showing a prophecy about actress Joselyn Dumas, foretelling a year of prominence and good news for her.

The revelation came from Pastor Moses Benisan during a sermon at the Family Altar Ministry in Accra, where he declared that Dumas’ name and image would dominate headlines in 2025.

“You are about to make the headlines; I am seeing your name and your picture everywhere, and the news about you everywhere. It will be good news. 2025, God will give you good news,” he prophesied.

In the video, Joselyn Dumas knelt as the pastor prayed over her, receiving the declaration with humility.

Though the prophecy did not specify the nature of the good news, many netizens believe her recent appointment is proof that the prediction is already coming to pass.

I just posted it and slept” – Black Sherif on ‘First Sermon’ breakthrough

Ghanaian highlife musician, Black Sherif, has opened up about his unexpected rise to fame, revealing how his hit song, First Sermon, gained massive attention overnight.

In a video shared online on March 4, 2025, Black Sherif recounted the moment he decided to release the song, stating that he had little expectation of its impact.

“You know, I was on my bed about to sleep, and I had the video playing, wondering whether to post the song or not. I was like, ‘No, just post it on Twitter,’ and I went to bed,” he said.

To his surprise, he woke up the next morning to a wave of engagement. First Sermon had garnered over 500 retweets overnight, sparking excitement among his supporters. “I was calling everybody,” he added, describing his reaction to the song’s immediate traction.

Since its release, First Sermon has propelled Black Sherif into the spotlight, earning him recognition both locally and internationally. His unique blend of highlife and drill music has resonated with audiences, solidifying his place as one of Ghana’s most promising artists.

Meanwhile, the Kwaku the Traveller hitmaker also addressed criticism regarding his style of dressing. He expressed confusion over why some individuals take issue with his fashion choices, emphasizing that he remains unfazed by such comments.

“Everybody dresses how they want to dress. And I don’t get why someone wouldn’t allow me to dress how I want to dress. It doesn’t make sense to a mind that thinks right… So, it’s not relevant to me,” he stated.

Despite public scrutiny, Black Sherif continues to focus on his artistry, staying true to his unique identity as he carves his path in the music industry.

Juliet Asante made unilateral decisions, that led to her own downfall – Ola Michael

Media personality and entertainment pundit Ola Michael has taken a firm stance against outgoing National Film Authority (NFA) Executive Secretary, Juliet Asante, arguing that her leadership missteps led to her downfall.

Following Juliet Asante’s candid Facebook post on March 2, 2025, detailing the challenges she faced in office—including two years without pay, sexual harassment, and harsh criticism—Ola Michael asserted that he holds no sympathy for her struggles.

Speaking on Neat FM, Ola Michael acknowledged that while her post sheds light on the difficulties within the NFA, particularly for her successor Kafui Danku, her leadership approach was flawed.

“I don’t feel any remorse for being critical of Juliet’s leadership. But we thank her for revealing how poorly the NPP handled the NFA. What she posted is useful information, especially for Kafui, who can now learn from her mistakes,” he said.

He specifically accused Juliet Asante of making unilateral decisions without consulting the NFA board, a move he believes created unnecessary conflicts. Citing the naming of ‘Black Star Films’ as an example, he questioned why such a significant industry decision was made without board approval.

“She is answerable to the board, so when you take major decisions alone, expect resistance. The issue with Black Star Films is, why would you name an entire industry without consulting the board? This should have been a collective decision,” he stated.

Ola Michael further claimed that Asante misunderstood her role at the NFA, operating as though she had the authority of a Chief Executive Officer rather than an executive secretary working within a structured governance framework.

“The challenge with her leadership was that she did not fully grasp the law or her position. She acted as though she had the ultimate decision-making power, but that was not the case. When the board pushed back, she saw it as resistance, but they had a valid reason,” he explained.

He added that Juliet Asante’s recent lamentations over her struggles in office come as no surprise, arguing that if the NFA board were to speak publicly about her tenure, it would reveal more concerning details.

“Now she’s crying like a baby, but if the board were to disclose everything she did while in office, we wouldn’t have peace,” he remarked.

Juliet Asante’s revelations have sparked discussions within the film industry, with many awaiting an official response from the NFA board regarding the allegations. Meanwhile, the appointment of Kafui Danku as her successor has heightened expectations about the future direction of Ghana’s film industry.

Ashanti Regional Minister sets up committee for Kumawood growth

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has taken a bold step to revitalize the film industry in the region by setting up a ministerial committee to address the challenges stifling its growth.

In an announcement shared on his Facebook page, Dr. Amoakohene stated, “Today, I officially commissioned a Ministerial Committee on the Movie Industry & Creatives (Kumawood) to drive the growth and transformation of Ghana’s film and creative arts sector.”

The committee has been tasked with diagnosing the current struggles of the industry and formulating policies to attract investment and ensure its long-term sustainability.

Additionally, their mandate includes promoting Ghanaian films on both local and international platforms, strengthening film production infrastructure, and enhancing training opportunities for creatives.

Dr. Amoakohene further emphasized the importance of showcasing Ghanaian storytelling and creativity through film festivals and cultural events while fostering stronger collaboration between industry stakeholders.

Urging the committee to execute its mandate with commitment and unity, he expressed optimism that this initiative would propel Kumawood and the broader creative sector to greater heights.

“We are committed to building a globally competitive film industry that tells the rich stories of Asanteman and Ghana,” he affirmed.

Efforts of Kumawood actors in 2024 elctions were not enough – Miracle Films

CEO of Miracle Films, Evangelist Samuel Nyamekye, has shared his thoughts on the political involvement of Kumawood actors in the 2024 elections, stating that their efforts fell short compared to other entertainers.

In an interview, Nyamekye acknowledged the contributions of Kumawood members who supported the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the campaign but argued that their impact did not match that of figures like musician Rex Omar and media personality Abeiku Santana.

“If you compare that to the NDC Kumawood members, during the 2024 campaign, they tried, but it was not as good as the efforts of people like Rex Omar and Abeiku Santana,” he stated.

While commending actors like Sylvester Agyapong for their active participation, Nyamekye expressed doubts about their chances of receiving political appointments.

“People like Sly and others campaigned openly, but their efforts were not that massive. To me, if none is called upon to serve, I would not be surprised,” he remarked.

He urged Kumawood actors interested in political appointments to intensify their commitment in future campaigns, suggesting that their level of involvement needs to be more significant to warrant recognition.

“I will encourage them to go the extra mile next time to warrant an appointment,” he advised.

We were branded illiterates becuase we were working with Kumawood – Portia Asare

Kumawood actress has expressed her frustration over how actors in the local Ghanaian film industry are often unfairly judged based on their educational backgrounds.

Speaking about her experience in the industry, Portia revealed that she once faced discrimination from a Nollywood actress who refused to work with her due to perceived language struggles.

“They have branded those of us in Kumawood like we didn’t get a good education… I remember one of the actresses in Nollywood told a producer she couldn’t act with me because I struggled to speak English. The producer came to inform me what he had been told. Meanwhile, the same actress didn’t go to school because she had no classmates in this country. That person didn’t even attend senior high or university, so I was hurt when I heard the news,” she recounted.

Beyond addressing industry biases, Portia also opened up about her personal life, revealing that she is a mother of two—a boy and a girl. She shared how her upbringing shaped her, recalling the menial jobs she engaged in during her youth.

“The last time I was telling someone I had done menial jobs, including weeding farms in the past, that person didn’t believe me. My grandmother used to take us to the farm, and when it was time to eat, they would put the food on leaves which we would eat together. But you know, as you grow, sometimes life becomes easier for you,” she said.

The actress used her story as a call to action, urging parents to be responsible for their children’s well-being instead of relying solely on external help.

“All I am saying is that we should take care of our children. We shouldn’t wait to let our children beg on the streets, and we shouldn’t also wait on the government for help,” she emphasized.

Her comments have since sparked discussions on social media, with many agreeing that society should move beyond stereotypes and focus on providing better opportunities for the next generation.

  • How a prophetess advised Kawku Manu to honour Agya Koo to secure his destiny

How a prophetess advised Kawku Manu to honour Agya Koo to secure his destiny

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has revealed how a prophecy from his spiritual mother, Prophetess Mama Vida, changed the course of his life and career.

In a video circulating online on March 4, 2025, Kwaku Manu recalled being deeply upset with veteran actor Agya Koo for not granting him a movie role he had paid for. However, his spiritual mother urged him to refrain from speaking against Agya Koo, emphasizing that he was his destiny helper.

“The prophetess asked me not to speak against Agya Koo because he was my destiny helper. She said I would work on the same project with Agya Koo and that movie would make me popular. She added that I should never speak against him even if I became famous. She also said I would not need the help of Agya Koo again after my first hit, and therefore, I will travel abroad like how I am traveling from Kumasi to Obuasi,” he narrated.

Initially skeptical about prophetic revelations, Kwaku Manu admitted that he had strong ties to the SDA faith and did not believe in such spiritual encounters.

“I was in the house of this woman, and she kept on telling me to go meet Mama Vida, but I resisted. As an SDA, there was no way I was going to meet her, even if she wanted to sack me from her house,” he shared.

Despite his reservations, he eventually visited Prophetess Mama Vida after feeling a strong urge to do so while delivering money to a friend at the church.

“I was asked to give money to a friend who was in the church, so when I got there, we spoke for some time until something dawned on me to go meet the woman. Moreover, it wouldn’t harm me. So I made a bold move, and that was how she began to tell me everything about my life,” he recounted.

The actor now credits the prophecy for helping him navigate his career and avoid making a costly mistake that could have hindered his progress.

  • Dolly Parton’s husband is dead

    Dolly Parton’s husband is dead

Carl Dean, the longtime husband of country music legend Dolly Parton, has passed away at the age of 82.

A statement shared by Parton on social media confirmed that Dean, known for his intensely private nature throughout their nearly six-decade marriage, died in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy,” the statement read.

Their love story began outside a laundromat when Parton, then an 18-year-old aspiring singer, had just arrived in Nashville.

Parton, now 79, reminisced about their first encounter, recalling, “I was surprised and delighted that while he talked to me, he looked at my face (a rare thing for me). He seemed to be genuinely interested in finding out who I was and what I was about.”

Marriage followed two years later when the couple exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia, on May 30, 1966.

Privacy defined their relationship, with Dean choosing to stay away from the spotlight while running his asphalt-paving business in Nashville.

Despite his preference for a low profile, Dean had a lasting influence on Parton’s music, notably inspiring her hit song “Jolene.”

During a 2008 interview with US media, Parton revealed that the song was inspired by a bank teller who had developed a crush on her husband.

“She got this terrible crush on my husband,” Parton shared. “And he just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. It was kinda like a running joke between us—when I was saying, ‘Hell, you’re spending a lot of time at the bank. I don’t believe we’ve got that kind of money.’ So it’s really an innocent song all around, but sounds like a dreadful one.”

Speculation about Dean’s existence became so widespread over the years that Parton once laughed off the rumors.

“A lot of people say there’s no Carl Dean, that he’s just somebody I made up to keep other people off me,” she told the Associated Press in 1984.

Children were never part of their union, but Dean is survived by his siblings, Sandra and Donnie, according to Parton’s statement.

Don’t advice me to dress well; I’m not your wife’ – Delay to critics

Ghanaian media personality Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, has delivered a sharp response to those criticizing her fashion choices.

A viral video circulating on social media on March 5, 2025, captured Delay wearing a striking red dress with an open cleavage. One particular netizen, however, disapproved of her outfit and used the comment section during her live TikTok session to urge her to dress “appropriately.”

That remark did not sit well with Delay, leading to an instant clapback.

“I am not your wife. I eat what I want and do what I want. Thank you for understanding. You think I am your wife whom you beat last night?” she fired back.

Her response quickly ignited debates online, drawing mixed reactions from the public. Some social media users praised her for standing her ground, while others felt her reaction was too harsh.

“These trolls need to understand that Delay is her own person. She doesn’t owe anyone a dress code,” one supporter commented.

On the other hand, a critic wrote, “She could have just ignored the comment. There was no need to be rude.”

Fearless and outspoken, Delay has always been known for confronting controversy head-on. This latest incident further solidifies her reputation as someone who refuses to conform to societal expectations, whether in her career, personal life, or wardrobe choices.

Don’t feel entitled to a woman because you are married to her – Prophet Oduro tells men

The General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has urged men to appreciate their wives and abandon the mindset of entitlement in marriage.

In a sermon shared on TikTok on March 4, 2025, the outspoken preacher emphasized that marriage should not be reduced to house chores such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. He stressed that women are not obligated to serve their husbands as maids and that men should step up in the home as well.

“I have always been telling people that if you need someone to cook for you, you don’t need to get married before you do that. You can hire a chef to do that. The person can prepare any food of your choice… Marriage isn’t about cooking, cleaning, and washing of clothes,” Prophet Oduro declared.

He further stated that men should be grateful when their wives cook for them, as it is an extra effort, not an obligation.

“If I want someone to clean my house, there are a lot of young boys in my village I can go for to come clean my house for me. Don’t make up your mind that marriage is all about cooking… Be thankful to your wife whenever she cooks for you because that is an extra job,” he advised.

Prophet Oduro also condemned men who feel entitled to their wives’ service, especially after a long day at work.

“When she brings you food, you have no right to criticise the food. Don’t say there is no salt in the food. If you say that, you are speaking like you have some entitlement… You are not entitled to any because she is only helping you,” he cautioned.

He encouraged men to be more supportive, suggesting that if their wives return from work tired, they should take up the responsibility of cooking instead.

“Don’t sit there idle and watch Netflix and tell your wife who just returned from work to cook for you. You can as well cook for her… You, the young ones, have made marriages disgusting,” he added.

Prophet Oduro’s message has sparked discussions on gender roles in marriage, with many applauding his call for mutual respect and appreciation between spouses.

What’s wrong with targeting Grammys with a project? – DJ Slim quizzes Stonebwoy

Popular Ghanaian Disc Jockey cum media personality, DJ Slim has expressed disappointment in dancehall artiste Stonebwoy for stating that he did not create his latest album, Up and Running, with the Grammys in mind.

Reacting to Stonebwoy’s stance, DJ Slim questioned why an artiste of his caliber would not intentionally aim for such a prestigious platform.

“I was so disappointed in Stonebwoy on that day. What is wrong with targeting the Grammys with a project? Or was he afraid that if he stated he was targeting the Grammys and didn’t get a nomination, he would be ridiculed?” he asked.

Stonebwoy had earlier mentioned that while it is good to qualify for awards, he does not create music with the sole intention of winning them.

“I do not really do music targeting an award scheme. It is good when you qualify, etc., but I don’t think it makes sense to think that I am doing this particular album for the Grammys,” Stonebwoy stated.

DJ Slim, however, argued that setting such goals does not diminish an artiste’s credibility but rather pushes them to strive for excellence. He urged Ghanaian musicians to boldly pursue global recognition instead of downplaying the significance of international awards.

Shatta Wale’s Range Rover isn’t his?

Showbiz investor Ayisha Modi has once again taken aim at dancehall artiste Shatta Wale following his recent outburst against foreign-based Ghanaians who frequently comment on celebrity affairs.

In a viral video, Shatta Wale lashed out at Ghanaian socialites and bloggers abroad, accusing them of spreading false narratives about celebrities just to gain traction on their platforms.

“Why are you people so obsessed with other people’s lives when you can’t even make ends meet in the countries you’re living in?” he fumed.

Feeling indirectly targeted, Ayisha Modi responded fiercely, daring Shatta Wale to call her out by name.

“You should have mentioned my name. I have told you many times to respect yourself like the icon you claim you are. Kwasia line saaaaa everyday. We shouldn’t talk about issues concerning Ghana? Then, when you are also going outside to perform, come with your Ghanaians,” she fired in a social media post.

She went further to question the authenticity of Shatta Wale’s flamboyant lifestyle, making claims about his recently acquired Range Rover.

“The car is parked in your house, but the car papers dey somebody in house. Shatta Wale, who are you? Junior, I saw you ooo. You and I know you can’t fight me. Keep on fooling yourself and I will post the owner of that 1999 Rolls-Royce,” she threatened.

Ayisha Modi, who has been an outspoken supporter of Stonebwoy, has had a long-standing feud with Shatta Wale since aligning with the BHIM Nation camp. She further criticized individuals she believes are too afraid to challenge Shatta Wale.

DJ Slim calls out artistes for downplaying TGMAs, Grammy goals

Popular Ghanaian disc jockey and media personality, DJ Slim, has taken a swipe at artistes who fail to prioritize both local and international award schemes, particularly the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) and the Grammys.

According to DJ Slim, many artistes treat award nominations with indifference, refusing to promote them due to the fear of losing. He expressed disappointment over this trend, emphasizing that being nominated alone is a significant achievement.

“All this starts with the local awards schemes; most artistes, when they are nominated for the TGMAs, don’t even post the flyers. Some don’t even go. They are afraid that if they do all that and they don’t win, they will be mocked,” he said in an interview with Kwadwo Sheldon.

DJ Slim further questioned why Ghanaian artistes do not intentionally target major global platforms like the Grammys with their projects. He believes this mindset limits their global recognition and growth.

“On any awards night, there are more losers than winners. But being nominated means that out of all the songs released that year, yours is in the top 5 or 6. Isn’t that a proud moment?” he added.

DJ Slim urged Ghanaian artistes to embrace awards as part of their career journey and stop shying away from them due to fear of public ridicule.

No man is poor; just go in for a woman you can afford – Nikki Samonas advises

Actress Nikki Samonas has a simple message for men struggling with relationships—your pockets aren’t the problem, your choice of women is.

Speaking on Hammer Time with Hammer Nti, she dismissed the notion that a man needs to be wealthy to date, arguing that financial struggles in relationships often stem from chasing women with high-maintenance lifestyles.

“Relationship-wise, every man has money. Your own is to go for a woman you can afford. There is no man in this country who doesn’t have money if they want to date. They just have to go for the lady their money can be enough for,” she stated.

Nikki advised men to be realistic about their financial standing before pursuing women with extravagant tastes, as maintaining such relationships requires deep pockets.

“Check your account balance before you call certain kinds of women. If you prefer a lady who likes to travel in private jets, work hard, and get money, then you can go for such women,” she added.

Her comments have since sparked conversations about financial compatibility in relationships and whether love truly has a price tag.

  • Akufo-Addo does not deserve my respect – BullGod

Akufo-Addo does not deserve my respect – BullGod

Popular artiste manager and entertainment pundit, BullGod, has declared that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is not worthy of his respect, citing personal grievances and the former leader’s conduct in office.

According to BullGod, Akufo-Addo’s actions before, during, and after the 2016 and 2020 elections, as well as his general attitude towards Ghanaians, have made it impossible for him to hold the former president in high regard.

“For me and him, my issue is personal,” he asserted in an interview on Hitz FM. “His campaign was mostly begging, and he had no real message. For someone like that, it is hard for me to respect him because he does not respect anyone. He doesn’t deserve it, and anyone who says otherwise must see things differently.”

BullGod also recalled how he was arrested by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), formerly BNI, in 2021 over comments he made about Akufo-Addo, an experience that reinforced his stance against the former president.

“I don’t understand why people say I’ve been insulting the former president. Those are not insults; those are opinions,” he insisted.

He further accused Akufo-Addo of disrespecting Ghanaians, particularly traditional leaders.

“In front of everyone, you tell a sitting chief of a community to get up before they can give you the respect you think you deserve? That is unacceptable,” BullGod argued. “For chiefs to gather and come meet you at your office, the office they put you in, and you treat them with such disregard?”

He also criticized Akufo-Addo’s remarks during his visit to flood victims in Akosombo, stating that such comments reinforced his lack of respect for him.

“For you to go to Akosombo when the flood happened and say, ‘I don’t know why I’m here; you didn’t vote for me,’ I can’t understand how we are supposed to respect such a person,” he stated.

According to BullGod, respect must be mutual, and a leader who does not show regard for the people cannot expect it in return.

“If you treat someone a certain way, the same will happen to you,” he added.

Expressing disappointment, he noted that Akufo-Addo, as a well-educated individual, should have exhibited better leadership qualities.

  • Vanessa Williams almost stabbed John Dumelo with a real knife on set – Leila Djansi reveals

Vanessa Williams almost stabbed John Dumelo with a real knife on set – Leila Djansi reveals

Award-winning Ghanaian filmmaker Leila Jewel Djansi has recounted a shocking incident where actor-turned-politician John Dumelo was nearly stabbed with a real knife during a movie shoot.

In a Facebook post on March 2, 2025, Djansi criticized the Ghanaian film industry, calling it a “mirthless joke” and highlighting instances of unprofessionalism she encountered while working in Ghana. Among the incidents she shared was a near-fatal accident involving Dumelo and Hollywood actress Vanessa Williams.

“Should I talk about the production designer who passed a real knife to an actor for a stabbing scene? My God. If it wasn’t for divine intervention, Vanessa Williams would have stabbed John Dumelo with a real knife that day. How is this not a joke?” she wrote.

While Djansi did not specify the production in question, Dumelo starred alongside Vanessa Williams in the 2018 TV series 40 & Single, which aired on StarTimes Adepa TV. In the show, Dumelo played Charles, the fiancé of Williams’ character, Bertha Brown.

Beyond the near-stabbing incident, Djansi detailed other instances of negligence and lack of professionalism on Ghanaian film sets.

“Try an AD telling you he’s going to sleep for a few minutes in the middle of a shoot. Try a crew demanding you stop filming, bring a TV so they can watch football, and then return to set after the match,” she shared.

She also referenced acclaimed filmmaker Cary Fukunaga’s past remarks on working in Ghana, emphasizing that such challenges were not isolated cases.

“Look for what Cary Fukunaga said about working in Ghana. Try wardrobe telling an actor they don’t have an outfit for them because their role is not big enough,” she added.

Djansi contrasted these experiences with international productions, praising the level of professionalism she witnessed elsewhere.

“Compare that to my production in the Dominican Republic, where the props guy showed me eight different watches, properly arranged, for me to choose JUST ONE, for the scene. Eight options. I cried tears of joy,” she noted.

She urged stakeholders in the Ghanaian film industry to move beyond mediocrity and embrace constructive criticism for growth.

I was never arrested – Nhyiraba Kojo denies U.S. arrest rumors

Ghanaian musician and businessman Nhyiraba Kojo has returned to Ghana, refuting reports that linked him to an alleged fraud case involving socialite Hajia4Reall.

Speculation about his alleged arrest surfaced after reports claimed he was named as an accomplice in a $2 million romance scam and had been detained by U.S. federal authorities upon arrival. The rumors gained traction when a viral photo showed him standing beside a police vehicle in the U.S.

Dismissing the claims upon his return, Nhyiraba Kojo described them as entirely false.

“I was never arrested, and I have no involvement in any criminal activity that would warrant such an action,” he stated.

According to him, his trip to the U.S. was purely for business and to spend time with his family.

Additionally, he disclosed that legal action has been initiated against the source of the false reports, emphasizing his commitment to clearing his name and safeguarding his reputation.

  • Jay-Z takes legal action over ‘false’ rape allegations, cites $20m loss

Jay-Z takes legal action over ‘false’ rape allegations, cites $20m loss

A woman who withdrew her legal action in February, after accusing Jay-Z of rape, is now being sued by the rapper.

According to his defamation lawsuit, she “voluntarily admitted” to being pressured into making false claims, which the suit describes as part of an “evil conspiracy” aimed at extorting money and damaging his reputation.

Initially, the anonymous woman filed her lawsuit in October before refiling it in December, accusing Jay-Z—whose real name is Shawn Carter—and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her when she was 13, following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

The allegations were denied by both rappers.

In a federal court filing in Alabama, Jay-Z’s defamation lawsuit also names the woman’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, and his co-counsel, David Fortney, accusing them of orchestrating the lawsuit.

International attention has followed Mr. Buzbee due to his involvement in multiple legal cases filed on behalf of individuals accusing Mr. Combs of sexual misconduct, extortion, assault, and other offenses.

All allegations against him have been denied by Mr. Combs.

Additionally, he is facing federal charges related to sex trafficking and racketeering, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

As stated in Jay-Z’s defamation lawsuit, the woman allegedly informed his legal team that her lawyers compelled her to make the false allegations.

“She said Buzbee brought Jay-Z into it,” the lawsuit states.

Even after admitting that Jay-Z “did not sexually assault [her],” the defamation suit claims that Mr. Buzbee “pushed [her] towards going forward” with the fabricated story to strengthen the case and extract more money.

Further discrepancies in the woman’s account were also highlighted in Jay-Z’s lawsuit, including inconsistencies in her NBC News interview last year, where she named a celebrity guest at the MTV party who was actually performing in a city thousands of miles away that night.

Her claim that her father had picked her up after the alleged assault was also contradicted by her father, according to the lawsuit.

The defamation case argues that Mr. Buzbee’s law firm failed to properly vet both the claims and the woman, who, according to the suit, has a history of mental health issues and an assault charge.

Denying any wrongdoing, Mr. Buzbee has accused Jay-Z’s legal team of trying to pressure the woman into retracting her statements.

Jay-Z’s lawsuit, he said, has “no legal merit,” according to a statement obtained by BBC News.

“Shawn Carter’s investigators have repeatedly harassed, threatened and harangued this poor woman for weeks, trying to intimidate her and make her recant her story,” Mr. Buzbee stated.

“She won’t – instead, she has stated repeatedly she stands by her claims.”

Married to Beyoncé, Jay-Z asserts that these allegations have caused both personal and professional harm, leading to an estimated $20 million (£15.8m) annual loss in business contracts for his company, Roc Nation, and taking an emotional toll on his family, particularly his children.

Archipalago fires shots at Kwaku Manu over marital controversy

US-based Ghanaian musician and socialite, Archipalago, has launched a scathing attack on actor Kwaku Manu, accusing him of hypocrisy regarding relationships and social media.

In a fiery video, Archipalago called out Kwaku Manu for advising people to keep their relationships private, yet failing to prevent his own marital issues. He pointed out that despite keeping his marriage off social media, the actor still lost his wife to an elderly white man.

“You are behaving like you are the most sensible person on earth. You said nobody should bring their relationship affairs on social media, yet an old white man snatched your wife from you, even though you didn’t share your marital affairs on social media,” Archipalago mocked.

He further criticized Kwaku Manu for not using his personal experience as an example before dishing out advice to others.

“Why don’t you use yourself as an example before talking about others? You are not wiser than me, so stop behaving like you are the wisest person. If you don’t stop talking about me, I will beat you the next time I see you,” he warned.

The heated exchange has since sparked conversations online, with fans reacting to the ongoing tension between the two public figures.

  • My daugters will not adopt names of their husbands – Nana Frimpong Ziega

My daugters will not adopt names of their husbands – Nana Frimpong Ziega

Entertainment pundit Nana Frimpong Ziega has strongly opposed the common practice of women adopting their husbands’ surnames after marriage, insisting that his own daughters will never do so.

Speaking in an interview on Neat FM, as spotted on Instagram on March 4, 2025, Ziega argued that changing a surname after marriage can have lasting consequences, especially in cases of divorce. He believes that the challenges some female celebrities face with name changes should serve as a lesson for others.

“There is no daughter of mine who would adopt the name of their husband. I don’t know the husband from anywhere, moreover, he is not my blood. So what happens just in case the two get divorced?” he questioned.

Ziega cited the experiences of gospel musicians Empress Gifty and Obaapa Christy, both of whom changed their names after marriage but have since struggled with identity issues following their divorces.

“If a woman is getting married, she does not change the name that was given to her by her father to that of her husband. Because Obaapa Christy and Empress Gifty are suffering from an identity crisis. A lot of people still call Obaapa Christy Christiana Love and Empress Gifty Gifty Osei, but that is not their names,” he explained.

He stressed that despite their efforts to rebrand, many people continue to associate them with their ex-husbands’ surnames, making it difficult to establish independent identities. Beyond branding issues, he pointed out that legal processes also become complicated when a woman who has changed her surname has to revert after a divorce.

“They are no more with their husbands, yet people keep calling them by those names. It creates a lot of problems, especially when you need to process official documents. You now have to swear an affidavit,” he added.

Ziega’s remarks have sparked conversations online, with some supporting his stance, arguing that women should maintain their birth names to preserve their identity, while others believe that taking a husband’s surname remains a symbol of love and unity in marriage.

We cannot fight galamsey without providing alternatives for illegal miners – Opare Addo

The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has emphasized that Ghana’s fight against illegal mining, widely known as ‘galamsey,’ will remain ineffective unless viable alternative livelihoods are provided for those involved.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he pointed out that while many illegal miners are aware of the environmental and health risks of their activities, they continue due to a lack of better economic opportunities.

“The truth is, they know the dangers of galamsey, but they have no choice because the financial gains are significant. If we are serious about tackling this issue, we must first offer them sustainable alternatives,” he said.

Opare Addo noted that poverty in mining communities is a major driving force behind illegal mining. He stressed that unless the economic struggles in these areas are addressed, people will continue engaging in galamsey.

“Wherever there is gold and poverty, people will find a way to dig for it. That is why we need to provide structured opportunities that give them a reason to abandon galamsey,” he explained.

As part of efforts to curb the menace, he revealed that his ministry is implementing programs to integrate young people in mining areas into cooperatives focused on land reclamation, agriculture, and vocational training to create long-term employment opportunities.

“We are pushing for responsible mining through Youth in Mining policies. Sensitization and skills training will be key in ensuring that young people choose legal and sustainable paths instead of illegal mining,” he added.

Mr Opare Addo called for a collaborative approach to fighting galamsey, urging stakeholders to focus on economic empowerment as a sustainable solution.

Bridget Otoo’s “Monkey Worked” tweet leaves netizens guessing

Bridget Otoo has taken to social media with a cryptic post that has left many users guessing, with some suspecting it relates to actress Jocelyn Dumas’ recent appointment.

The outspoken journalist and ardent NDC supporter made waves on X with a post that simply read, “Monkey worked.”

Although she later deleted the post, it had already sparked heated discussions online, especially since it coincided with Jocelyn Dumas trending following her appointment as Deputy Director for Diaspora Affairs.

Due to the timing, many users linked Bridget Otoo’s post to the actress’ new role, speculating that she was displeased with the appointment.

Some believed that as a loyal NDC advocate who had actively campaigned for the party, Bridget Otoo might have felt sidelined, particularly since Jocelyn, who was not visibly involved in the campaign, had been awarded a position by President John Mahama.

Shortly after, Bridget Otoo reshared a flyer announcing Jocelyn’s appointment, boldly declaring it fake.

This only intensified the conversation, with social media users arguing that her reaction reflected her true feelings about the actress’ appointment.

“Since Kwadee’s mother has rejected Hammer, he should step back” – Fredyma

Veteran music producer Fred Kyei Mensah, known as Fredyma, has advised fellow industry colleague Hammer to distance himself from Okomfour Kwadee’s situation following the stance taken by the artiste’s mother.

According to Fredyma, despite Hammer’s well-intentioned efforts to support Kwadee, it is crucial to respect the wishes of the musician’s family, particularly his mother, who has reportedly opposed Hammer’s involvement.

“Since Kwadee’s mother says she doesn’t want to see him around her son anymore, Hammer cannot be more holy than the Pope or cry more than the bereaved. If something unfortunate happens to Kwadee while in his custody, those currently supporting him will be the same people to blame him,” Fredyma stated.

His comments highlight the delicate nature of Kwadee’s situation, suggesting that any continued involvement from Hammer could lead to unintended consequences.

Fredyma further cautioned that while Hammer’s support is commendable, he should not put himself in a position where he could later be held responsible if things do not go as planned. He emphasized that public opinion can quickly shift, and those who currently praise Hammer’s efforts might be the same ones to criticize him in the future.

The veteran producer called for a more structured approach to assisting struggling artistes, noting that relying solely on individual goodwill can sometimes lead to complications, especially when family dynamics come into play.

The conversation surrounding Kwadee’s well-being has reignited discussions about the need for a formal support system within the entertainment industry to help artistes facing personal and mental health challenges.

  • “Sex as a bargaining chip? You’re already losing” – Jessica Opare-Saforo warns lovers

“Sex as a bargaining chip? You’re already losing” – Jessica Opare-Saforo warns lovers

Renowned media personality Jessica Opare-Saforo has shared her perspective on the dangers of using sex as a tool for control in relationships, cautioning that such tactics often signal deeper problems between partners.

Speaking on the issue, she highlighted how some women exploit men’s natural desire for intimacy to their advantage, treating affection as a reward rather than a genuine expression of love.

“If sex is being used as a bargaining chip in your relationship, you’re already losing. Some women know that men crave intimacy, and they use that to their advantage. If you do what she wants, she rewards you with affection,” she stated.

She further explained how this dynamic plays out in relationships, emphasizing that withholding intimacy as a form of punishment is a clear form of manipulation.

“If you disagree with her, suddenly she’s not in the mood. If you upset her, she needs space but only until you apologize. Even if you weren’t wrong, this is manipulation disguised as intimacy,” she pointed out.

Opare-Saforo stressed that when physical intimacy shifts from being a means of emotional connection to a tool for control, the relationship is on a dangerous path.

“The moment sex stops being about connection and starts being about control, your relationship is pretty much doomed. And don’t get it twisted, real desire comes from mutual attraction and respect, not from bribery and punishment,” she cautioned.

Her remarks have sparked discussions about the role of intimacy in relationships, with many agreeing that love and attraction should be based on genuine emotions rather than power dynamics.

Jessica Opare-Saforo’s insights serve as a wake-up call for couples to prioritize respect and open communication, ensuring that intimacy remains a reflection of love rather than a tool for manipulation.

  • Producers are forced to finance their own movies due to lack of investors – LilWin

Producers are forced to finance their own movies due to lack of investors – LilWin

Popular Kumawood actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, known in the entertainment industry as LilWin, has opened up about the financial struggles of Ghana’s film industry, revealing that many filmmakers are forced to fund their own productions due to a lack of investors.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, LilWin emphasized that the film sector is grappling with financial constraints, which has left actors and producers with no choice but to invest their own resources to keep the industry alive.

“At the moment, our industry is struggling mainly due to a lack of investment. This has forced some of us to finance our own film productions,” he stated.

Despite these challenges, LilWin encouraged his colleagues to take control of their careers by exploring filmmaking and directing rather than relying solely on acting opportunities.

“I encourage my colleagues to take action because you can’t sit idle, waiting for a producer to give you a role. If you have what it takes, create your own movie,” he advised.

Having personally experienced the burden of self-financing, LilWin noted that all his projects have been executed without external financial support.

“Today, I can proudly say that all my movies and TV productions were financed solely by me, without any external backing. So you can imagine the quality I could achieve if I had an investor supporting me,” he added.

He cited his latest film, A Country Called Ghana, as a testament to what Ghanaian filmmakers can accomplish despite financial hardships.

“A Country Called Ghana is the best production in recent times, just like the classic I Told You So. It has won several awards, including Best Indigenous Film at the 2024 Nollywood Film Festival, as well as Best Production Design and Best Makeup at the 2024 Imo International Film Festival,” he revealed.

The movie, which was also nominated for Movie of the Year at the 2024 Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF), features top Nollywood stars such as Ramsey Nouah, Charles Awurum, and Victor Osuagwu, popularly known as Awilo Sharp Sharp.

LilWin remains hopeful that with the right investment, the Ghanaian film industry can thrive, attract international recognition, and create more opportunities for talents in the sector.

  • I work hard as a female artiste but I’m barely recognized – Sister Afia

I work hard as a female artiste but I’m barely recognized – Sister Afia

Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has voiced her frustration over the lack of recognition for her relentless efforts in the music industry. Despite dedicating herself fully to her craft, she feels overlooked compared to her male counterparts.

Speaking in an interview with DJ Slim, the ‘Weather’ hitmaker shared how deeply invested she is in her music career, revealing that she barely gets any rest due to her demanding schedule.

“I mean, I’ll speak for myself—I can’t speak for everyone—but I’ll speak for myself. I work tirelessly; I work more than everyone, especially Adey grind waaa, and I need this thing. I’m somebody that needs it; it’s like without music, there’s no Sista Afia,” she said.

She emphasized that her commitment to music is undeniable, yet the industry seems to disregard her contributions.

“I don’t sleep; I sleep like three hours, almost four, then I’m back to business. I hardly sleep. Right now, I feel like it’s time to talk. It’s so sad that people don’t really see the work you put in, and that hurts me,” she added.

Sista Afia, known for her powerful vocals and versatility in blending highlife, Afrobeat, and dancehall, has performed on various major platforms. However, she believes that female artistes, regardless of their talent and work ethic, often struggle to receive the acknowledgment they deserve.

Her comments highlight a broader issue within the Ghanaian music industry, where female musicians frequently face challenges in gaining visibility despite their hard work and dedication.
