Netizens slam Habib Iddrisu over ‘movie industry’ comment during Dumelo’s vetting

Several figures in the creative arts industry have voiced their discontent with First Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu over a statement he made regarding the sector during the vetting of Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo.

During Dumelo’s appearance before the Appointments Committee on February 25, 2025, Iddrisu cautioned him against treating his political journey casually, stressing that his responsibilities extended beyond the film industry.

He advised the nominee to take his new role seriously and focus on contributing effectively to his ministry.

“If you go to the ministry, try to assist your minister. The ministry is vast, and you should not try to jump the gun. Also, note that when you go to the ministry, you are no longer in the movie industry. Try to be as serious as you can so that you can support your minister in succeeding,” Iddrisu remarked.

His comment has stirred conversations online, with many urging him to retract his statement and apologize to the creative arts community.

While some believe the film industry deserves an apology, others have raised concerns about the Deputy Minority Whip’s level of understanding regarding its significance.

  • I wont repeat some things I said in the past because I am not a fool – Charlotte Oduro

I wont repeat some things I said in the past because I am not a fool – Charlotte Oduro

Marriage counselor and media personality Charlotte Oduro has admitted that some of her past statements would be handled differently today, attributing the change to personal growth and experience.

Speaking on The Stand Point with Gifty Anti, Oduro emphasized the importance of evolving perspectives, noting that wisdom comes with time and learning.

“It’s only a fool who doesn’t want to change. For me, if I were to address some of these things now, it would be different,” she stated.

She explained that her journey in media exposed her to new experiences that have refined her approach to sensitive issues.

While acknowledging her earlier viewpoints, she stressed the need for maturity in communication.

“I believe in being mature. I believe in learning because when I was in class five, what I was taught was different from what I know now. As we grow, we learn,” she said.

Reflecting on her early days in the media, she described the environment as “sharp” and “hot,” noting that her delivery and stance on issues have since evolved.

“Some of the things I said back then, I wouldn’t say today, per my experience. I would choose a better way to speak about them or handle them. Until you experience something, until you learn, you don’t fully understand those issues,” she explained.

Oduro’s remarks highlight the significance of continuous learning and the willingness to adapt as one gains deeper understanding through life’s experiences.

Be ready to sign Anti-Gay Bill – Ntim Fordjour tells Mahama

Member of Parliament for Assin South and former Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to be ready to sign the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill into law once it is passed.

As one of the eight legislators who sponsored the bill in the 8th Parliament, Mr. Ntim Fordjour reiterated his unwavering support for the legislation, emphasizing that no leader would be permitted to avoid taking a stance on the issue.

In a statement on X on Tuesday, February 25, he disclosed that he had reintroduced the bill in the 9th Parliament, reinforcing its importance on the legislative agenda.

Issuing a challenge to President Mahama, he declared, “Tell your paymaster that he cannot escape this bill. He should get ready to sign it the same way he wished for it.”

His comments were in reaction to a post by journalist Kevin Taylor, who had discussed the political consequences of the proposed legislation.

Mr. Ntim Fordjour defended his consistent advocacy for the bill, asserting that his position had remained firm since his entry into Parliament in 2017.

“To feed your ignorant mind, I’ve been consistent with my principles on this bill since 2017 when I entered Parliament and continued steadfastly even as Deputy Minister,” he wrote.

Additionally, he took a swipe at Kevin Taylor, suggesting that his opposition to the bill was due to personal reasons.

“I can imagine your extreme discomfort because you’ve been alleged to be practicing the abominable LGBTQ acts,” he added.

The Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill has sparked significant debate in Ghana, with proponents arguing that it aligns with the country’s cultural values, while critics contend that it infringes on fundamental human rights.

Accra Academy students in court for alleged violent attack on juniors

Four students of Accra Academy Senior High School have been brought before the Dansoman Circuit Court on allegations of assaulting first-year students.

A viral video that surfaced on social media depicted one of the victims being attacked with a machete.

Among those charged, only 21-year-old Richard Ninson is an adult, though he was absent during the court proceedings. Facing two counts of abetment of crime to wit assault, he remains a key suspect in the case.

Three juveniles, aged between 15 and 17, have had their identities withheld due to their status as minors. They appeared in court and denied charges of threat of harm, abetment of crime, and assault.

In granting bail, Presiding Judge Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Basit placed the three minors in the custody of their respective guardians—a father, uncle, and aunt—who stood as sureties in compliance with the Juvenile Justice Act. A bail sum of GH₵10,000 was imposed on each, allowing them to focus on their upcoming examinations.

As part of legal proceedings, the court has instructed the prosecution to submit disclosures and witness statements ahead of the Case Management Conference. The matter is scheduled to resume on April 14, 2025.

Leading the prosecution, Inspector Esther Mensah, assisted by Chief Inspector Portia Nuarko, informed the court that the complainant in the case is a 34-year-old tutor at Accra Academy SHS. His residence is located in Ablekuma New Town.

Investigations revealed that all four accused students, who are day scholars, reside in Mamprobi and Shukura within Accra. Their alleged involvement came to light after school authorities intercepted a disturbing video on January 1, 2025, showing form one students being assaulted with a machete.

Upon discovering the footage, the complainant, accompanied by the aunt of one of the minors, escorted the suspect to the police station for questioning. His statement was recorded before he was released on bail pending further inquiries.

Details uncovered during the probe indicated that on January 17, 2025, the victims had gathered at the school park for prayers when the accused students approached them.

Kneeling was allegedly demanded of the victims, with one being forced to delete all content from his phone before surrendering it. The accused reportedly instructed him to pay GH₵500 for its return.

A collective payment of GH₵10 was also forced upon the other victims, who complied out of fear.

At one point, a victim was allegedly struck in the chest, while another suspect wielded a machete to physically assault him. The entire ordeal was reportedly recorded.

Under threats of further harm, the victims were warned to remain silent about their experience.

Mahama had no mandate to establish ORAL Committee – Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has criticized President John Dramani Mahama for introducing the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) committee, describing it as a harmful precedent.

Speaking on Nhyira FM’s ‘Kuro Yi Mu Nsem’ program, host Nana Kwadwo Jantuah inquired about his assessment of Mahama’s administration so far.

In response, the former Minister for Parliamentary Affairs remarked, “It is important they start right so they can end well. He’s not done too badly but there are a few things that need to be discussed. An example is the ORAL. The ORAL is a dangerous precedent he set for the country.”

He elaborated that any fair evaluation of a government requires at least 100 days in office, stating, “To do a proper assessment of every government, you have to wait for the first 100 days. It’s too early to rate Mahama but I have my reservations about a few things.”

Nonetheless, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu argued that at the time the ORAL Committee was constituted, Mahama lacked the legal authority to do so.

“The Operation Recover All Loots was set even when he wasn’t President yet. He was the President-elect and hadn’t been sworn in. So executive authority was not in his hands. He didn’t have that power to establish the ORAL team,” he asserted.

The former Suame legislator pointed out that looting is a criminal act and that only a court has the jurisdiction to determine whether an individual is guilty of such an offense.

“What does it mean to loot?” he asked. “To loot means a person has stolen something which isn’t theirs. So looting is a criminal offense. And before we establish someone has looted something, a court of competent jurisdiction needs to determine whether you have looted.”

He further stated, “The constitution guarantees the right to own property individually or as a collective. If you can’t establish the individual has not created their own wealth but looted, then it is a serious accusation.”

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu maintains that forming the ORAL team was unnecessary and argues that labeling individuals as looters without legal proof amounts to defamation.

Habib Iddrisu advises Dumelo to take Deputy Agric Minister role seriously

While speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, February 25, Mr. Iddrisu cautioned Dumelo against approaching his political career lightly, emphasizing that his new responsibility differs from his acting profession.

“If you go to the Ministry, try to assist your Minister. The Ministry is huge, and you should not try to jump the gun. And also note that when you go to the Ministry, you are not in your movie industry as you are. Try to be as serious as you can so that you can be able to assist your Minister to succeed,” Mr. Iddrisu advised.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon legislator has been selected to serve as Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, a role that will require him to contribute to policy implementation and sectoral growth.

Ahead of his confirmation, Dumelo expressed his ambition to inspire Ghanaians to chase their dreams and succeed in their fields.

Reflecting on his journey, he pointed out his accomplishments in the entertainment industry, entrepreneurship, and politics. While he believes he has excelled in the first two, he admitted he is still striving to establish himself in governance.

“I’m a man of probably many talents. In the movie industry, I think I did quite well. In the business industry, I think I’m doing quite well. And in politics, I’m yet to do well,” he admitted.

Dumelo hopes that by sharing his experiences, he can motivate others to work toward their aspirations and make a positive impact in Ghana.

Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s commitment to tackling unemployment by prioritizing job creation in the agricultural sector.

Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Dumelo emphasized the NDC’s plans to reset the country’s direction, with agriculture as a key driver of economic recovery.

“The unemployment issue is a national problem, and we in the NDC are about to reset the country. We will make sure that we create a lot of employment opportunities, especially in the agric space. And so it’s a national problem, and we are here to fix it. We will not be able to fix all, but we will fix some,” he stated.

Beyond agriculture, Mr Dumelo highlighted the NDC’s plan to empower women in business by introducing a specialized financial institution aimed at improving access to credit.

“In the area of business, what we have realized is that women are always a formidable force. They are almost always the ones who can do business and do it well. But unfortunately, access to credit or funding is always a problem for them. That is why the NDC has agreed to establish Women Banking, to be able to lend money to women at a relatively lower rate, so they can expand their businesses, create more businesses, and generate more jobs for the economy,” he explained.

His remarks align with the NDC’s broader agenda to revamp key economic sectors, particularly agriculture. Dumelo, a strong advocate for agribusiness, believes that increased investments in mechanized farming, agro-processing, and value chain development will significantly reduce youth unemployment.

Dumelo, an actor-turned-politician and a farmer by profession, is serving his first term in Parliament on the ticket of the NDC. His appointment as Deputy Minister-designate was announced on February 5, 2025, in a statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

Beyond politics, Dumelo has an extensive academic background. He holds three master’s degrees, earning his second from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in 2022. In 2024, he completed his third master’s in Law (Natural Resources) at the University of Ghana Law School. His academic journey began with a degree in Civil Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

His advocacy for women entrepreneurs and agribusiness development underscores his vision for economic transformation, positioning financial inclusion and job creation as key priorities in his political career.

NDC can fix part of Ghana’s problems, not all – Dumelo

Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has acknowledged that while the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is committed to addressing Ghana’s economic and social challenges, it cannot solve all of them.

Speaking during his vetting, Mr Dumelo emphasized the party’s readiness to reset the country’s direction, particularly in tackling unemployment.

“The unemployment issue is a national problem, and we in the NDC about to reset the country, We will make sure that we create a lot of employment opportunities. Especiallly in the agric space. His remarks align with the NDC’s broader agenda to revamp key economic sectors, particularly agriculture, as a major driver of job creation. Dumelo, a strong advocate for agribusiness, believes that increased investments in mechanized farming, agro-processing, and value chain development will significantly reduce youth unemployment.

The actor-turned-politician further noted that while no government can completely eradicate unemployment, the NDC’s approach would provide tangible solutions that empower young people and boost the economy.

His remarks have sparked discussions on the feasibility of the NDC’s employment strategy and the extent to which it can address Ghana’s rising job crisis.

  • Exceed GHC200bn revenue target by end of 2025 – Finance Minister directs GRA

Exceed GHC200bn revenue target by end of 2025 – Finance Minister directs GRA

Finance minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson has urged the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to exceed its revenue target of GHC200bn for 2025.

This was disclosed by the  Ghana Revenue Authority, Commissioner-General Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong

“Our sector minister honourable Ato Forson has already indicated that in 2025 as GRA, he expects us to exceed GHC200bn as tax revenue,” Mr Sarpong told the media.

Mr. Sarpong reiterated that the authority’s primary mandate would be to grow and achieve revenue targets, noting that every effort would be made to meet the minister’s expectations.

“We will work hard to deliver on our commitments and ensure that we support the nation’s financial needs. This is not an individual effort but a collective one, and when we succeed, it will benefit the entire country,” he stated.

The GRA has surpassed its 2024 revenue target, collecting GH¢ 153.5 billion, a 5.3 percent increase over the projected GH¢ 145.9 billion.

This translates to a nominal growth of 35 percent compared to 2023.

Key drivers of this performance include robust growth in domestic revenue (31.6 percent) and customs (47 percent), exceeding expectations across several tax handles. Notably, corporate tax collections reached GH¢ 38 billion, surpassing the GH¢ 30 billion target.

Addressing GRA management, Dr. Forson highlighted the country’s limited borrowing options in the current fiscal environment.

“Without revenue, there is little you can do. We do not have access to the Eurobond market, commercial bank loans, or even the domestic bond market. The only access we have is Treasury bills and multilateral loans,” he said.

He added that these constraints make domestic resource mobilisation more crucial than ever.

The minister noted that, under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, the government is obligated to raise additional tax revenue equivalent to 0.6 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025.

Prior to assuming office, the Finance Minister pledged to improve tax compliance to increase Ghana’s tax revenue to 16% of GDP without raising taxes.

Adding that his focus would be on working closely with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the tax policy unit of the Ministry of Finance to improve compliance and revenue collection.

“We don’t necessarily have to increase taxes before you rake in revenue. What we need to do is improve compliance. I will work with the GRA and the tax policy unit to ensure we increase compliance and raise the revenue as much as we can,” he noted.

  • Conduct thorough probe into illicit opioid import, sanction culprits – PSGH to FDA, GRA

Conduct thorough probe into illicit opioid import, sanction culprits – PSGH to FDA, GRA

The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has condemned the illegal importation of dangerous opioids into the country and is calling for stricter regulatory enforcement.

This follows recent media investigations, including a BBC Africa Eye documentary, which exposed the smuggling of unapproved opioids into Ghana and other West African countries.

Despite existing regulations, PSGH noted that Ghana has become a key transit hub for these substances.

The Society is therefore urging designated authorities and law enforcement agencies to strengthen border controls, enforce stricter penalties, and collaborate with international partners to curb the illicit opioid trade.

“We call on the FDA, the Pharmacy Council, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)-Customs Division, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service, the Narcotics Control Authority, the National Intelligence Bureau, and all relevant authorities to expedite a thorough, independent investigation into these allegations. If any local pharmaceutical company is found to have breached regulatory protocols, appropriate sanctions should be enforced to maintain the integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain in Ghana,” PSGH stated in a release issued on February 24, 2025.

The Society warned that these drugs, including tapentadol and carisoprodol, pose severe public health risks and contribute to addiction and socio-economic challenges.

A BBC Africa Eye investigation revealed that an Indian pharmaceutical company, Aveo Pharmaceuticals, is manufacturing unlicensed and highly addictive opioids, which are being illegally exported to West Africa, fueling a major public health crisis in countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.

The Mumbai-based company produces various pills under different brand names, packaging them to appear as legitimate medicine.

However, these drugs contain a dangerous combination of tapentadol, a potent opioid, and carisoprodol, a muscle relaxant so addictive that it is banned in Europe.

This particular mix of ingredients is not licensed for use anywhere in the world, as it can cause breathing difficulties, seizures, and fatal overdoses.

Despite these risks, the opioids have become popular as cheap and easily accessible street drugs in many West African nations.

Shatta Wale’s sprayed cash help me take care of my new born baby – Prophet

Ghanaian preacher, Prophet Kwabena Kely, has shared how Shatta Wale unknowingly helped him during a difficult time.

In a viral video, he recalled attending a concert years ago when he was struggling to feed his infant child.

At the event, Shatta Wale threw money into the crowd. While the first round went to a group of boys, the next landed in front of him.

“I decided to go to a show not knowing Shatta Wale would come to perform. When he arrived, he threw money. The first one went to a group of boys, and the next round fell right in front of me. I picked the money. When I counted, it was GH₵180.

For this reason, the man of God stated that “I pray for Shatta Wale every day for no reason. He has helped me before without knowing. When I gave birth to my firstborn, things were hard. There was no pampers and food. The child hadn’t eaten and I was depressed,” he said.

The prophet therefore believes that this act was proof that God can use anyone to bless others.

He also defended Shatta Wale’s habit of spraying money, saying it is part of his success despite the criticism.

Recently, Stonebwoy mocked Shatta Wale for hoarding GH₵5 notes just to appear rich.

Ghanaians praise Akuapem Poloo for instilling discipline in her son

Ghanaian actress and social media influencer Akuapem Poloo has been widely commended for her parenting approach after posting a video of her son, Mudasir Muhammed Yakubu, practicing handwashing clothes.

The Instagram video captured the young boy attentively following his mother’s guidance, though his expression showed slight reluctance. He soaked the garments in water, lathered them with soap, and used his hands to scrub away dirt.

Once the washing was done, he rinsed the clothes thoroughly, wrung out the water, and arranged them on a basin cover before hanging them up to dry.

Handwashing remains a common practice in Ghana, where many families still prefer it over washing machines. Akuapem Poloo is known for actively teaching her son life skills and has previously posted similar clips of him learning household chores.

Ghanaians in the comments section praised her for teaching the boy discipline and responsibility. Some even joked that he was being groomed as ‘husband material’ for mastering an essential skill.

matatageorge said: “What a good son !!! you are born great, and you have achieved greatness entrusted unto you God richly bless you !! your Uncle Matata George did the same thing.”

“I was praying nonstop” – Pastor Jerry Eze on narrow escape from plane incident

Visionary behind Streams of Joy International, Pastor Jerry Eze, recently shared a remarkable account of divine intervention that saved him and his team from what could have been a catastrophic plane crash.

During a sermon, the pastor recounted feeling an unshakable sense of unease before takeoff, which led him to pray continuously throughout the flight, even though he couldn’t pinpoint the reason for his concern.

“For some reason, I was praying. Just as we were about to land, everything went haywire,” he narrated.

As the aircraft descended towards the runway, an unexpected complication arose. Upon touching down, the tyres suddenly burst, causing widespread fear among the passengers.

Despite the terrifying moment, the situation did not spiral into tragedy, and everyone on board escaped without harm.

To make the experience even more intense, a close associate of Pastor Eze happened to be on a phone call with her sister when the incident occurred.

Though the exact technical failure remains uncertain, Pastor Jerry Eze credited their safe landing to God’s divine protection, emphasizing the significance of prayer and His unwavering guardianship over His people.

Settling down early while employed makes life easier – Bishop Agyinasare to young graduates

Prominent Ghanaian cleric, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, has urged young adults to consider early marriage, emphasizing that tying the knot shortly after university simplifies life significantly.

Addressing an audience at a conference, the Perez Chapel International founder underscored that the best time to marry is immediately after completing university, which, in Ghana, is usually around 22 years old.

According to him, securing a stable job should be followed by marriage rather than postponing the decision.

“Once you graduate and have a good job, the best move you can make is to find a good woman and settle down,” he remarked. His statement was in response to a question regarding the ideal age for his children or church members to marry.

His views sparked varied responses online, with some agreeing that starting a family early comes with advantages.

“I honestly agree. If you are financially stable and have a good woman, marry her. These streets are cold,” one person commented.

Conversely, others argued that economic hardships make early marriage unrealistic. “No job, but man dey grow. How do we do that?” another questioned.

While many support his stance, some believe financial preparedness should be prioritized before marriage. The discussion remains ongoing, as people weigh the advantages of early commitment against today’s economic challenges.

“When you have a job after university, get married and settle. It makes it easier,” Bishop Agyinasare advised.

My chidren won’t marry pastors unless God speaks – Charlotte Oduro

Well-known Ghanaian marriage counsellor, has made a striking statement, asserting that she would not permit either of her two daughters to wed a pastor.

She expressed this view during a church service on Sunday, February 23.

“I have two daughters, and neither of them will marry a pastor unless God says so, but I’m not sure He will,” she declared.

Having once been married to a pastor, Counsellor Oduro has openly discussed the difficulties that come with being a pastor’s wife.

Her opinion on the matter holds weight, as she has often shared personal accounts of the hardships she endured in her marriage and ministry.

This remark follows the confirmation from Apostle Solomon Oduro, General Overseer of the Royal Victory Family Church, that his marriage to Reverend Charlotte Oduro has officially ended.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 10, 2025, Apostle Oduro disclosed that they had been separated for three years, with their customary marriage officially annulled in 2024.

He cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce, stating that all efforts at reconciliation had proved unsuccessful. According to him, the final decision came after deep reflection and spiritual counsel.

Okyeame Kwame predicts King Paluta will win Artiste of the Year

Ghanaian rapper and entrepreneur Okyeame Kwame has endorsed King Paluta as Artiste of the Year.

In a Facebook post, Okyeame wrote: “Artiste of the year. Signed sealed delivered. And he is wearing the love equation by ok. Medaase.”

Although he didn’t add any award scheme to the post, it has stoked conversations about who deserves to win the Artiste of the Year slot in the forthcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Some people have argued that King Paluta’s visibility and hard work in the year under review (2024) towers over any other musician in Ghana. Their argument is premised on the fact that he released three smash hit songs: Aseda, Makoma, Pop Champagne, an album and appeared on many high profile concerts in Ghana and abroad.

Meanwhile, a section of music lovers are also rooting for King Promise, who was a huge contender for the slot last year.

Apart from these two artistes, Stonebwoy’s work in 2024 has been acknowledged by some music stakeholders as impressive. They believe that the Bhim Nation President deserves to win Artiste of the Year award again.

Telecel Ghana Music Awards’ Artiste of the Year category, is defined as the “Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the artiste with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the year under review. The artiste must have released a hit Single/EP/Album, and must be one of the artistes with the highest nominations in the year under review.”

In the meantime, the organisers of the TGMA are yet to release the nominations for this year’s awards.

  • Bishop Amoako’s son may never drive again due to trauma – Blakk Rasta

Bishop Amoako’s son may never drive again due to trauma – Blakk Rasta

Ghanaian reggae artist and media personality Blakk Rasta has expressed concerns over the mental state of Bishop Salifu Amoako’s son following a tragic accident in East Legon.

The accident, which involved two young women, has sparked intense public backlash, with many scrutinizing the young man’s actions.

Speaking on United Showbiz on February 22, 2025, Blakk Rasta noted that the bishop’s son might never be able to drive again due to the trauma he is experiencing.

He added that the social media criticism directed at the young man is not solely because of the accident but also because of controversial statements previously made by his father.

“I think the boy has suffered enough. If care is not taken, he may never be able to drive again because of the trauma he’s experiencing. He will be classified as a killer. The backlash he is facing is not just because of the accident, but also because of the sins of his father,” he stated.

Blakk Rasta pointed out that Bishop Salifu Amoako’s previous comments about disregarding road safety regulations have contributed to the public’s perception of his son.

“I think he needs to watch what he says. He is an anointed man of God, I like him but this is about Ghana. If he openly claims that he can disregard the country’s laws, then the country will come after him. He painted a picture that in his household, traffic rules and regulations are not respected. He even implied that a seven-year-old in his house could drive without a license,” he added.

His remarks have reignited discussions on accountability, public influence, and the role of public figures in shaping societal attitudes toward the law.

    Background

On Monday, February 17, 2025, the Attorney General withdrew charges against Bishop Salifu Amoako, his wife, and another individual who had been prosecuted for allowing their son to drive without a license.

However, according to a report by GHOne, the couple was immediately re-arrested upon exiting the court.

The 16-year-old son of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako was sentenced on December 19, 2024, to six months at a senior correctional center.

This followed his guilty plea to eight charges, including two counts of manslaughter, for a tragic road crash in East Legon that claimed the lives of two preteens.

Before his sentencing, Salifu Amoako’s son was remanded by the Family and Juvenile Court and held at the Osu Correctional Centre while being prosecuted for causing the crash.

According to police prosecutors, he had been showing off the speed of a Jaguar F-Pace Sport, which belonged to his parents, when he collided with a black Acura carrying the victims.

Mr. Nyarko Ampem further stressed that his focus is on improving the policy’s execution, not reducing funding. He also reiterated former President John Mahama’s position on the matter, stating, “If Ghanaians, through consensus, agree on a particular direction for the policy, and it becomes government policy, I will fully support it. His remarks seek to allay public concerns about the future of the Free SHS program, which has been a major pillar of Ghana’s education system since its introduction.

  • Job opportunities in Ghana insufficient to meet rising demand – GSS

Job opportunities in Ghana insufficient to meet rising demand – GSS

A recent report from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has disclosed that although job opportunities exist in Ghana, they are insufficient to accommodate the increasing number of individuals seeking employment.

The document, titled “National Report on Productivity, Employment, and Growth,” highlights a decline in the employment rate—an indicator of the economy’s capacity to absorb labor—from 73.9% in 2000 to 55.7% in 2021.

“This indicates that while Ghana’s economy continues to generate job openings, they are not adequate to absorb the growing workforce,” the report stated.

According to the findings, 7.43 million people were employed in 2000, and this figure increased to 10.2 million by 2010, reflecting an annual employment growth rate of 3.3% over the period.

“In 2021, the number of employed individuals stood at 9.99 million, representing an average annual decline of 0.7% from 2010 onwards,” the report added.

Despite this downward trend, the GSS noted that a large segment of the population continues to struggle to find decent and sustainable employment.

“Decent employment refers to work that is productive and ensures dignity, fairness, security, and equal opportunities for both men and women. It is built upon four fundamental pillars: productive work, labor rights, social dialogue, and social protection,” the document explained.

Additionally, the report emphasized that a crucial component of decent work is ensuring that employment creation keeps pace with the rising number of people entering the labor market.

COCOBOD, GRA seizes 1,115 smuggled gallons of cocoa near Togo

A truck carrying 1,115 gallons of cocoa beans has been intercepted at the Ave-Havi border in the Volta Region, near Togo, through a joint operation by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Driven by Ibrahim Fatawu, the vehicle, registered as AS 2103-W, was found transporting the smuggled cocoa.

As part of continuous efforts to combat illegal exports of Ghana’s premium cocoa, authorities uncovered the smuggled beans hidden in gallons inside the truck.

COCOBOD’s Director of Special Services, Mr. Charles Amenyaglo, explained that the cocoa was being smuggled for sale in Togo to bypass Ghana’s regulated pricing system.

Now under the custody of COCOBOD and GRA, the seized consignment remains subject to further investigations.

Expressing his concerns, Mr. Amenyaglo remarked, “This interception is a proof that cocoa smuggling remains a serious issue in Ghana and we are intensifying our efforts to track down these illegal operations and protect our farmers and the economy.”

The Board’s Head of Security has reiterated its dedication to safeguarding Ghana’s cocoa industry from illegal trade. “We remain vigilant and will continue working with security agencies to prevent the smuggling of cocoa, which threatens the livelihoods of our hardworking farmers and the economy as a whole.”

Fear women and prosper – Sonnie Badu

Ghanaian gospel musician and preacher Sonnie Badu has advised men to be cautious in their dealings with women, stating that the first rule to prosperity is to “fear women.”

In a video shared online on February 23, 2025, he claimed that women are more intelligent than men and can harm their partners without remorse.

“A woman would poison you and still be smiling with you. Women are far smarter than men. After you have cheated on her, she would notice it because they are like detectives,” he said.

Sonnie Badu further noted that while both men and women can be evil, women are more dangerous because they use words as weapons.

“Men are physical, but women react with words. Sometimes a woman’s words can cut a man’s throat. A woman can look at her husband and say, ‘You are good for nothing,’ and even after 20 years, he still hasn’t forgiven her,” he added.

“Yakubu is indeed our son, but not my husband’s P.A” – Kofi Adomah’s wife

Miracle Adomah, the wife of well-known broadcaster Kofi Adomah, has issued a statement to address what she calls misleading information from a recent interview on Peace FM featuring Mubarak Yakubu, a young man linked to their family.

She took the opportunity to update the public on her husband’s health while acknowledging the generosity of several individuals, including businessman Ibrahim Mahama.

Previously, Yakubu, who was introduced as Kofi Adomah’s personal assistant, shared insights into his medical condition, the required funds for surgery, and those who had contributed.

In his remarks, he asserted that they had yet to receive any form of assistance from Ibrahim Mahama.

However, in a statement shared on her Facebook page, Miracle Adomah clarified that Yakubu is not officially Kofi Adomah’s PA or Public Relations Officer but rather someone they consider a ‘son.’

She also pointed out that, contrary to Yakubu’s assertion, Ibrahim Mahama had, in fact, been supportive.

She went on to express gratitude to the businessman and assured him that a formal appreciation would be extended at the appropriate time.

“Yakubu is dear to us and like a son, but he does not serve as my husband’s official PA or PRO. Although he is dedicated, there are certain things he is not informed about,” her statement partly read.

Speaking on Kofi Adomah’s medical condition, she confirmed that he had successfully undergone a series of surgical procedures in Dubai.

While progress has been made, she stressed that the family is still facing challenges and requested continued prayers for his full recovery.

Addressing the figures Yakubu mentioned concerning the cost of the surgery, she clarified that the final amount would only be disclosed once the treatment has been fully completed.

“I would like to correct the figures given by Yakubu regarding the surgery expenses. We will provide the actual cost after the treatment is concluded, as our primary concern remains saving my husband’s sight,” she explained.

Miracle Adomah also extended her heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kwaku Oteng, the CEO of Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN), for his unwavering support during this trying time.

“Dr. Kwaku Oteng has been incredibly supportive. He visited my husband, assisted financially, and regularly checks on him. His kindness is deeply valued,” she noted.

The statement ended with an appeal to the public, requesting that the family be given the space to focus on Kofi Adomah’s recovery.

“We are thankful for the outpouring of support, but we humbly ask for privacy as we dedicate our attention to my husband’s healing,” she concluded.

DJ Slim challenges article Wan’s view on consistent hit songs

Media personality, DJ Slim, has responded to Article Wan’s recent comments about the challenges of consistently producing hit songs.

Ghanaian musician Article Wan expressed that consistently producing hit songs can stifle an artist’s creativity due to the pressure

He believes that periods without major hits offer artists a chance to relax, reflect, and refine their craft.

In contrast, media personality DJ Slim contends that sustained success is achievable through hard work and discipline, citing artists like Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy as examples of musicians who have maintained a steady stream of popular releases over the years.

“If not for anybody, I can reference Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy. These people have been having back-to-back hit songs for years. I want Article Wan to look at his godfather Shatta Wale during the 2015-18 era, when the man was dropping hit songs like crazy.

“He can even go into the shower and compose a hit song. It was consistent for years. There were years Wale would drop 13 bangers. How many months do we even have in a year?” he queried.

This discourse highlights the differing perspectives on the balance between creative freedom and the demands of commercial success in the music industry.

Media personality, DJ Slim, has responded to Article Wan’s recent comments about the challenges of consistently producing hit songs.

One would recall that Article Wan recently stated that having constant hit songs can stifle an artist’s creativity due to the pressure it creates.

He mentioned that periods without hits allow artistes to relax, reflect, and refine their craft.

However, DJ Slim has disagreed with this assertion, citing examples of Ghanaian musicians like Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy, who have consistently delivered hit songs over the years.

Speaking on his show, DJ Slim referenced Shatta Wale’s successful years between 2015 and 2018, when the dancehall artiste released several hit songs every year.

While DJ Slim agreed that an artiste’s creative ability can sometimes be ‘shaky,’ especially during troubled times, he argued that consistent hit songs are achievable through hard work and discipline.

“I’ve seen interviews of big superstars where they say that sometimes when they are on stage, their next venue is the studio. So, contrary to what Article Wan says, I believe it’s hard work,” he stated.

Kofi Adomah’s family yet to receive $115k from Ibrahim Mahama

Mubarak Yakubu, personal assistant to renowned media broadcaster Kofi Adomah, has addressed circulating reports regarding a substantial donation from businessman Ibrahim Mahama.

Recent claims suggested that Mahama had contributed $115,000 to support Adomah’s medical treatment following a severe eye injury. However, upon consulting with Adomah’s wife, Yakubu clarified that they have yet to receive the alleged funds.

“When I saw the news going viral, I contacted the wife and sent her the flyer of the report. But she said that she hadn’t seen anything yet,” Yakubu stated. He expressed uncertainty about whether the donation process had commenced but remained hopeful: “I don’t know if he has made processes for the money to be sent, and it hasn’t arrived yet. But the last time I checked, it hadn’t come. I’m hoping that when next I check, the money will have arrived.”

Our artistes are afraid to invest in their craft – Blakk Rasta

Ghanaian reggae artist and media personality, Blakk Rasta, has criticized local musicians for prioritizing luxury purchases over investing in their musical careers.

During a discussion on United Showbiz on February 22, 2025, he emphasized that true branding involves dedicating resources to one’s craft rather than acquiring material possessions.

“Our artistes are afraid to invest in their craft. They would rather buy Rolls-Royces and expect that people would come to your show and watch them. Kill and brand yourself because branding isn’t about buying Rolls-Royce and houses.

“Spend on your career because it isn’t force to buy Rolls-Royce or houses,” he said.

Blakk Rasta further applauded gospel musician Sonnie Badu for his contributions to the music industry.
According to him, Ghanaian artistes can use Sonnie Badu as an example when organising an event.

“Look at Sonnie Badu’s recent concert. Did you see the number of people he paraded on stage? If he is having a show in the UK, look at the kind of people he parades on stage.

“Do you think he makes profits from all the shows he organises? He loses in a lot of them, but the brand is going to be tight. As for us, we would buy Rolls-Royce,” he added.

Odorgonno SHS students protest faulty traffic light following security guard’s death

Students of Odorgonno Senior High School took to the streets this morning, blocking the main Awoshie-Anyaa road to protest a malfunctioning traffic light situated at the entrance of their school.

The defective signal has been a longstanding issue, leading to frequent traffic congestion and numerous accidents in the area.

The protest was ignited by a tragic incident last Thursday, when a young security guard employed by the school was fatally struck by a vehicle at the faulty traffic light.

This is not the first time the community has voiced concerns over malfunctioning traffic signals. Residents of Anyaa Palace Town, a suburb near Awoshie, staged a massive demonstration six months ago, demanding immediate repairs to a non-functional traffic light at the School Junction intersection.

The neglected traffic light had led to a series of tragic accidents, including fatalities among school children and serious injuries to residents.

On February 23, 2025, Edem humorously questioned whether Osei’s cousin was responsible for his latest tweets, referencing a previous incident where Osei claimed his cousin had posted derogatory remarks about Mahama from his account.

In his recent post, David Osei suggested that by the end of February, many public sector employees would be dismissed, prompting Edem’s teasing response.

This exchange has sparked discussions among Ghanaians, with some criticizing Osei’s approach to political commentary.

Others have stated that his constant act of sitting on the sidelines, blindly criticizing and predicting doom for the country is both wrong and unnecessary.

      Read the post below:

    10. Prince David Osei ‘mocks’ Mahama’s public sector dismissals

Prince David Osei ‘mocks’ Mahama’s public sector dismissals

Ghanaian actor and New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporter, Prince David Osei, has made light of President John Dramani Mahama’s alleged dismissals of public sector employees appointed by the previous administration. I

In a social media post, Osei humorously addressed the political climate, stating, “Just cracking a joke, come on guys; everything shouldn’t be uptight. I am with you… a bit of humour, then you boys get vexed.”

He continued by suggesting that public sector employees might face dismissals, “Before the end of February, they will sack all our parents, uncles, aunties, sisters, and brothers in the public sector … I just love Ghana. What happened to ‘love your neighbour as thyself’?”

Osei further questioned the fulfillment of campaign promises made by President John Dramani Mahama, asking, “Ghana, how far? Are you enjoying the Mahama administration? I hear they are giving everyone milk and honey… 24/7 electricity and market women making outrageous sales? Everybody will be okay, right?”

These comments have sparked significant backlash from supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In response to the criticism, Osei issued a public apology on December 10, 2024, stating, “I deeply apologize if my words during the campaign offended anyone from the NDC. We were all focused on winning, but now let’s move forward and live in peace. God bless Ghana.”

Despite the apology, tensions remained high, leading Osei to address threats he received.

In an interview with Hitz FM, he clarified that a controversial post referring to President-Elect Mahama as a “drunkard” was not authored by him, suggesting his account may have been compromised.

He emphasized, “One thing I know for sure is no man can kill me unless God allows it, but I’ll also defend myself because Ghana belongs to all of us and I’m not afraid of anybody.”

Osei’s remarks and subsequent apology highlight the heightened political sensitivities in Ghana, especially among public figures with significant influence.

Brother recounts desperate moment of fire incident leading to Mawuli Semevo’s death

Philip Okyere, the younger brother of the late veteran actor , has shared the terrifying details of the fire incident that claimed the actor’s life.

Speaking to GHPage, Philip recalled the moment he realized the fire was out of control.

“I went to turn off the power from the meter, suspecting that the fault might have come from the freezer. Everything was burning. I immediately called for help and contacted the fire service because there was no way we could handle the situation ourselves.”

Trapped inside, the two tried to escape but faced an obstacle. “I tried to open the door to the hall so we could both escape, but I couldn’t get the door open. So, we decided to stay in the bedroom,” he explained.

However, Mawuli Semevo took the bold step of pushing through the fire. “Uncle Mawuli then left the bedroom to open the door to the hall.

He eventually managed to open the door and passed through the flames. It was a mixture of adrenaline and fear that pushed him to go through the fire.”

Philip also revealed that he briefly considered an alternative escape route.

“If the fire had reached the bedroom, we wouldn’t have stood a chance. We live on the top floor. For a moment, I thought about using a rope to descend the building rather than go through the flames.”

Women who refuse DNA tests have something to hide – Yul Edochie

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has shared his views on DNA testing, emphasizing that a woman who refuses a paternity test when requested is “hiding something.”

In a post on Instagram on February 21, he stated, “Any woman who refuses to do DNA test on her child when it is demanded, is hiding something. Don’t fall for any excuse she gives to you. She is hiding something. A clear conscience fears nothing.”

Edochie has been in the public eye for his personal life as well. In April 2022, he introduced actress Judy Austin as his second wife and announced the birth of their son.

This revelation deeply affected his first wife, May Edochie, with whom he had been married for over 17 years and shares four children.

In 2023, she filed for divorce, citing emotional distress, betrayal, and public humiliation.

Prophet Ogyaba curses pastors who criticized him over adultery

Self-proclaimed State Seer, Prophet Ogyaba, has fired back at pastors who condemned him over his alleged extramarital affair, warning that they will face divine punishment if they ever engage in similar acts.

“If any of those pastors who criticized me ever commit adultery, they will die in car accidents. They will go straight to paradise since they claim to be holier than thou,” he declared in an interview.

His outburst follows accusations that he lured Lady Cassie, a woman seeking help from his church, into a relationship with promises of facilitating her travel to the UK.

Reports suggest that after getting her pregnant, he abandoned her, refused to cover her hospital bills, and ignored her family’s confrontations.

Despite admitting to the affair, Ogyaba insists his marriage remains intact. He dismissed the controversy, stating, “I am not a wood. Adwaman is not a big deal.”

According to him, Lady Cassie wanted to be his main partner, a request he refused.

Unfazed by the backlash, the controversial prophet maintains that his critics will suffer God’s wrath if they ever find themselves in similar scandals.

    14. We must ensure innocent candidates are not unfairly penalized – WAEC

We must ensure innocent candidates are not unfairly penalized – WAEC

The Head of Legal Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Rev. Victor Brew, has reaffirmed the council’s commitment to ensuring that no innocent candidate is wrongly penalized in cases of suspected examination malpractice.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on Friday, February 21, 2025, he emphasized that WAEC follows a rigorous verification process before making final decisions on withheld results. According to him, the council remains firm in its stance and will not be pressured into prematurely releasing results of candidates involved in malpractice investigations.

“We should not be pushed into a situation where people would cheat, have their results withheld for further investigation, and we end up either canceling the results of innocent candidates or releasing the results of those who have cheated. That is really the process,” he stated.

Rev. Brew explained that while WAEC understands concerns over delays in releasing results, the integrity of the examination process must be protected. He noted that external pressure, whether through media campaigns, court actions, or public demonstrations, will not influence the council’s decision-making.

“No amount of media or court action or demonstrations should cause us to release the results of persons who have cheated,” he stressed.

His remarks come after the Accra High Court dismissed WAEC’s request for a stay of execution in a case involving more than 10,500 withheld results. The court, presided over by Justice Ali Baba Abature in January 2025, ruled that WAEC must release the results, describing the council’s application as unmeritorious and imposing a cost of GH¢5,000 against it.

Rev. Brew acknowledged the concerns regarding the duration of malpractice investigations and stated that with additional resources, WAEC could speed up the process.

“We can talk about the length of time WAEC is willing to look at, and we are saying that with more resources, we can do this work maybe more speedily,” he added.

In 2024, WAEC withheld the WASSCE results of over 10,000 candidates, citing evidence of examination malpractices. The council has since defended its decision, insisting that due process must be followed to ensure fairness for all candidates.

    15. Minority denies receiving court notice on Ernest Kumi case

Minority denies receiving court notice on Ernest Kumi case

The Minority in Parliament has denied receiving any court notice concerning the legal proceedings against Akwatia MP Ernest Kumi.

According to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, no legal document has been served on Mr. Kumi, the Speaker of Parliament, or the Clerk of Parliament.

“As we speak, no court process has been served on Mr. Kumi, neither has any process been served on the Speaker of Parliament nor the Clerk to Parliament,” Afenyo-Markin stated during a media engagement.

He criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressing disappointment in their actions.

He recalled that in October 2024, some NDC members strongly disagreed with a Supreme Court ruling and even used offensive language, yet they are now demanding that MPs uphold judicial decisions.

“We are decent democrats. That is why we have chosen lawful processes to address our concerns about the conduct of the Koforidua High Court Judge. We have not used unprintable words against anyone, and we will not,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin further explained that there was a pending application in court requesting a stay of proceedings in Mr. Kumi’s case, but the judge proceeded with the substantive hearing without considering it.

He also disclosed that the Akwatia MP had written to the court about his situation, yet he received no response.

Additionally, the Minority Leader stated that he had not been informed of any ruling against Mr. Kumi and had not attended any meeting where such information was disclosed.

“I am the leader of our side, and I haven’t been invited to any meeting where I have been told that the process has been served. So I don’t know what the NDC is up to,” he remarked.

Afenyo-Markin accused the NDC of using the situation for political gain, warning that they should not forget they are the party in government.

“If they think they are using Ernest Kumi for politics, we remind them that next week Thursday, the President will be coming to the Chamber. They seem to have forgotten that they are in government. If today they claim to be champions of the rule of law, we have heard them,” he stated.

He reaffirmed that the Minority remains committed to pursuing justice through legal means while rejecting any form of political manipulation.

    16. Chaos in parliament as Minority, Majority clash over Ernest Kumi’s conviction

Chaos in parliament as Minority, Majority clash over Ernest Kumi’s conviction

Tensions escalated in Parliament on Friday, February 21, 2025, as the Majority and Minority clashed over the contempt conviction of Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi.

Heated exchanges filled the chamber, with MPs standing and shouting over one another in a chaotic scene captured by JoyNews.

The Majority side firmly opposed allowing Kumi to speak on the floor, citing a bench warrant issued against him. They argued that since the court had declared him in contempt, he could not be permitted to participate in parliamentary proceedings.

Kumi, who has appealed against his contempt ruling, was found guilty by the Koforidua High Court for violating an injunction by proceeding with his swearing-in as an MP. On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, the court withheld sentencing due to his absence and issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

His legal team has since filed an application to put the warrant on hold pending the appeal.

Addressing the press on Thursday, Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, raised concerns about how the court was handling the case. He accused the judge of bias, insisting that the appeal should have been reviewed before any further action was taken.

The controversy surrounding Kumi’s election dates back to December 2024, when the Electoral Commission (EC) declared him the winner of the Akwatia parliamentary seat. However, his victory was challenged in court by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Henry Boakye-Yiadom, who alleged electoral irregularities.

As the legal battle continues, Parliament remains divided, with the Minority defending Kumi’s right to participate in proceedings while the Majority insists that the bench warrant prevents him from doing so.

    17. Seize excavators, don’t burn them – Mahama to team fighting galamsey

Seize excavators, don’t burn them – Mahama to team fighting galamsey

mPresident John Dramani Mahama has instructed the team fighting illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) to seize excavators instead of setting them on fire.

“I’ve told them not to burn the excavators. They should confiscate them,” he said during a meeting with the Christian Council at the Jubilee House on Friday, February 21.

He acknowledged that small-scale mining provides jobs for about 1.8 million Ghanaians but emphasized that it must be done responsibly to avoid destroying the environment.

President Mahama disclosed that illegal mining has already damaged 43 out of Ghana’s 280 forest reserves. He noted that authorities have started clearing affected areas, with a recent operation in the Tano Nimri Forest Reserve leading to the removal of excavators and other mining equipment.

To prevent illegal miners from returning after being evicted, he announced plans to deploy a mobile team to support forestry officials in protecting these areas.

He also promised to engage small-scale miners in discussions on adopting better mining practices that would safeguard natural resources while allowing them to earn a living.

    18. NPP leaders who fired NDC appointees now want me to defend them – Anyenini

NPP leaders who fired NDC appointees now want me to defend them – Anyenini

Private legal practitioner, Samson Lardy Anyenini, has revealed that some leaders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are seeking his legal assistance to challenge President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to revoke appointments of public service workers hired after December 7, 2024.

Speaking on Adom FM on Friday, February 21, 2025, Anyenini noted that some of the same individuals who are now reaching out for help were responsible for dismissing National Democratic Congress (NDC) appointees when the NPP took power in 2017.

“Some leaders in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) called me to defend those whose appointments have been revoked by Mahama’s government,” he disclosed.

According to him, this turn of events highlights the irony of political transitions, where parties that once wielded power to remove others from office later find themselves on the receiving end of similar actions.

“Some of the leaders who called me were the same individuals who had dismissed people when they were appointed heads of companies and institutions, during which NDC members were let go after their party assumed power. Now, they are calling me to come to their rescue,” he remarked.

Anyenini further criticized the NPP’s reaction to the revocations, stating that they are condemning the same actions they carried out while in power. He questioned whether politicians ever reflect on their decisions and how they could eventually face the same consequences.

“I was reflecting on the entire situation, seeing how NPP members are speaking out against these issues, and Afenyo-Markin even releasing a statement. I asked myself if these politicians ever take a moment to consider whether their actions could eventually come back to hurt them,” he added.

He stressed that while political transitions often lead to such dismissals, it is ultimately the ordinary citizens who suffer the most from politically motivated decisions.

“These things happen with every government, and if you don’t take care, you will not sympathize with the NPP because they did worse than what is happening to them. But our profession as journalists requires us to be professionals and speak against illegalities,” he urged.

Anyenini called on Ghanaians to be bold in addressing political injustices, advocating for a neutral stance in speaking truth to power rather than focusing solely on past political actions.

Dont follow people who will only use you to play shows – Shatta Wale to young artistes

Ghanaian dancehall star, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, advised up-and-coming artistes, cautioning them against being exploited in the music industry.

In a live TikTok video circulating on social media on February 21, 2025, Shatta Wale advised young musicians to exercise patience, surround themselves with the right people, and deepen their knowledge of the craft rather than rushing into deals that offer little benefit.

“To every young musician, if you feel you have a problem, don’t go and follow people who would only use you to play shows because you have a hit song, all in the name of exposure. If the first song doesn’t bring money, the second song will,” he said.

Reflecting on his own journey, Shatta Wale recounted how it took him a decade to be fully accepted in the industry, emphasizing the importance of perseverance.

“My first song was a hit, but the second one didn’t go as planned. It took me 10 years to come back again. I didn’t rush for it, so I was learning more about music,” he added.

His statement has since sparked discussions online. While many fans praised him for sharing valuable insights, others dismissed his remarks, labeling him as overly talkative.

Every young individual should familiarize with social media positively – McBrowm

Renowned Ghanaian media personality, Nana Ama McBrown, has expressed disappointment in a group of young media professionals she recently met, believing they were not maximizing their potential.

During a visit to Pluzz FM to discuss the Ghandour Cosmetics brand, the Onua TV show host noticed that some of the young professionals, particularly women, had no strategic plan to capitalize on her presence. What frustrated her even more was their lack of interest in social media and content creation, despite working in the media space.

“I’m not being rude, I’m telling you the fact. Even with your first degree or master’s, once you’re in the space of social work, you need to learn social media,” she emphasized.

Drawing from her own experience, McBrown highlighted the importance of digital platforms in building a career. She playfully challenged one of the young ladies, pointing out the irony of their reluctance.

“You’re young. Some of you haven’t even given birth, and you’re apathetic to social media. Madam, you and I have a score to settle,” she said with a teasing smile.

McBrown, a role model for many young women in Ghana, left a lasting impression with her words, sparking discussions on the need for media professionals to embrace social media as a vital tool for growth and visibility.
