The authority confirmed the arrival of the cards on Monday, February 17, 2025, following weeks of negotiations led by the Acting Executive Secretary.

To speed up the process, a technical team has been constituted to oversee the printing and distribution of the cards to district offices nationwide. The public will be informed in due course when the issuance process officially begins.

The NIA also reminded Ghanaians of over 600,000 printed cards that remain uncollected at various regional and district offices since 2018. Measures are being put in place to ensure their swift distribution for proper use.

Reaffirming its commitment to efficient service delivery, the NIA assured the public that it will continue to work in the best interest of the nation.

CEO of the Angel Group of Companies, Dr. Kwaku Oteng, has opened up about his journey from a carpenter to a successful businessman, revealing the struggles he endured in his early days.

Speaking about his humble beginnings, he shared that his entrepreneurial journey started in the 1990s with the production of Angel Cream.

“I started in the ’90s with Angel Cream. I was actually a carpenter when I started. I was into furniture making, room dividers, wardrobes, and all kinds of furniture. I was into that,” he recalled.

With limited resources, Dr. Oteng took to the streets of Kumasi, selling his product from market to market, seizing every opportunity to push his business forward.

Mama Esther opens up about 9-year hiatus from music

Legendary gospel musician Esther Boakye, widely known as Mama Esther, has shed light on why she has not released new music in nearly a decade. Speaking in an interview with blogger Zionfelix, she revealed that what started as a short break turned into a nine-year hiatus due to significant events in her career.

“It’s been nine years since I released a song. Initially, it was a two-year interval, but it changed to nine years because of something that happened during my 50th birthday,” she explained.

Mama Esther recalled that she marked her 50th birthday with the release of four albums, a move that was intended to celebrate her musical journey and address misconceptions about her connection to the Pentecostal faith.

“The albums included Pentecost Volume 1 & 2, and I did that because I had done the music thing for 15 years without projecting music from my church. People thought I wasn’t proud of my Pentecostal heritage, so I decided to dedicate those albums to music from my church. I also released Best of Mama Esther and Me Lazarus Besore, so there were four albums,” she said.

She noted that releasing multiple albums at once meant fans needed more time to fully appreciate the music, leading her to take a step back.

“I realized the songs were too many to be digested within just two years, so I decided to give it some space and allow people to enjoy the songs,” she added.

Additionally, Mama Esther acknowledged the resurgence of her older songs on social media platforms, particularly among the younger generation.

“Secondly, the current generation seems to love my music. On TikTok and other social media platforms, I see them enjoying some of the old songs I didn’t promote, so I decided to take a break and allow them to enjoy it,” she explained.

Despite her long absence from the studio, Mama Esther’s music continues to inspire many, proving that great gospel songs remain timeless. Fans, however, will be eager to know if she plans to make a full comeback soon.

Expressing his frustration over a recent incident, the outspoken prophet did not hold back his words.

“Romeo is a stupid boy. It was only God who saved him on UTV that day. I would have beaten him,” he stated.

Known for his straightforward and unapologetic personality, Kumchacha explained that while he is naturally humble and respectful, he refuses to let people take his kindness for weakness.

“I am a humble and respectful person; however, I won’t let people take my respect for granted. Romeo is fond of talking about people but hates it when people criticize him. I would have slapped him on TV if given the chance,” he added.

The prophet also made it clear that his role as a man of God does not mean he will accept insults or mistreatment.

“If I preach and you don’t listen, I don’t care because you are not my relative. I am not one of those pastors who would sit and allow people to hurl insults and disrespect them all in the name of God. I am not Jesus,” he stated firmly.

Regina Daniel’s husband is not the father of my child – Chika Ike

Nollywood actress Chika Ike has broken her silence on swirling rumors about the father of her child and her alleged relationship with politician Ned Nwoko.

Addressing the speculations, the actress made it clear that she remains a very private person and will not entertain baseless assumptions about her life.

“There have been all sorts of lies peddled about me in the media for years, but I always treated them like what they are—rumors that need no response. But this is different; this is about my child; except I choose to disclose. Yes, I’m that private! Ned isn’t the father of my child, and whoever’s name you might come up with later in your guessing games,” she stated.

Chika Ike also dismissed claims that she plans to marry the politician, firmly rejecting any association with polygamy.

“I’ve said before, I’m not about to be anyone’s seventh wife! Polygamy isn’t for me. I’ve been pregnant for months now, and no one even had a clue about my pregnancy until I announced it. Do you all think you’ll know who the father of my child is or anything happening in my life? Very laughable and clueless!” she added.

The actress has consistently kept her personal life out of the public eye, and her latest remarks reinforce her stance on privacy.

While speculation continues, it is clear that Chika Ike is in control of her narrative and determined to keep details about her child’s father under wraps.

  • Drake leads Wireless Festival lineup scheduled from July 11 to July 13

Drake leads Wireless Festival lineup scheduled from July 11 to July 13

Drake is set to perform as the main act for all three nights of this year’s Wireless Festival in London. This will be his first time performing in the UK in six years, and he plans to bring a unique set to each night of the event.

The festival, celebrating its 20th anniversary, will take place at Finsbury Park from July 11 to July 13. Other big names performing over the weekend include Burna Boy, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Summer Walker, and Vybz Kartel.

Drake has been in the headlines recently due to his ongoing rap feud with Kendrick Lamar.

Their rivalry, which started over a decade ago, resurfaced last year when Kendrick released a diss track, Not Like Us, which won a Grammy. Drake has since taken legal action over the song.

Coincidentally, Kendrick will be performing in Birmingham just a day before Drake’s Wireless set, keeping the tension alive.

Drake first headlined Wireless in 2012, and organizers say he remains the most requested artist by fans. He recently dropped a collaborative album, Some Sexy Songs 4 U, with PARTYNEXTDOOR, who will also perform on the festival’s opening night alongside Summer Walker.

On Sunday, Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy will make his Wireless debut, and dancehall icon Vybz Kartel is also set to perform after being released from prison last year when his murder conviction was overturned.

While many are excited about Drake’s three-day takeover, others are disappointed that UK artists weren’t given a headlining spot. Some fans feel artists like Dave or J Hus should have been at the top of the bill.

Megaman, a member of UK garage and hip-hop group So Solid Crew, says Wireless should have included a top UK act in its initial lineup announcement. He hopes Drake will bring a UK artist on stage during his performances.

Wireless organizers have promised to reveal more acts soon. Last year’s festival featured Nicki Minaj, 21 Savage, J Hus, and Doja Cat, drawing around 50,000 fans each day.

The festival is set to continue at Finsbury Park until at least 2027 under a five-year deal with Haringey Council.

Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, February 19, at 12:00 GMT.

I apologise for unpardonable omission from National Education Forum – Mahama to Christian Council, others

President John Mahama has expressed regret over the delayed invitation extended to the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for the ongoing National Education Forum in Ho.

His apology comes after the clergy voiced their disappointment in a press statement, lamenting their exclusion from the crucial discussions on education reforms.

Speaking at the launch of the forum, President Mahama acknowledged the oversight and reassured religious groups of his government’s commitment to inclusivity in national education dialogues.

“Let me express my sincerest apologies on behalf of the planning committee of the forum to our stakeholders of the faith-based organizations for the unpardonable omission committed in your delayed invitation to this forum,” he said in the Volta Regional capital.

He further noted, “The omission was very speedily remedied, but you still deserve an unqualified apology for this oversight.”

“And since you are the purveyors of God’s mercy on Earth, I’m sure that you have forgiven us… And we know you’re important stakeholders because you own some of the schools, and so this educational forum is important to see how we carry everybody together.”

The National Education Forum brought together education experts, policymakers, civil society groups, and religious leaders to discuss ways to improve Ghana’s education system.

  • Gov’t to revamp ‘dormant’ PTA system to produce quality human capital – Education Minister

Gov’t to revamp ‘dormant’ PTA system to produce quality human capital – Education Minister

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announce plans once again involve the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in the management of education in Ghana.

He said this will contribute to the government’s commitment creating a more inclusive education system where parents, teachers, and administrators work together to ensure quality education for all students.

Speaking at a public forum yesterday the Minister expressed, I am particularly happy to announce that PTAs will be introduced back into the management of education under the presidency of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to work for parents and teachers to work together to improve learning outcomes in our educational institutions. And for PTAs to support our educational institutions to produce quality human capital for the country.”

Ghana Education Service (GES) under the Akufo-Addo led administration limited the influence of PTAs in the school management system through the suspension of PTA levies in 2019 following the introduction of the Free Senior High School.

This partly occurred after it emerged that some school heads were abusing the PTA system through the collection of PTA dues and levies defeating the objective of the then Akufo-Addo govt in removing cost as a barrier to secondary education in Ghana.

Recognizing this, teachers were exempted from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), recognizing it as Parent Association (PA).

The change limited the role of teachers in the management of schools, as PAs lacked the level of engagement and decision-making authority that PTAs traditionally held.

The decision to scrap PTAs faced criticism from various stakeholders in the education sector. Many argued that the removal of PTAs diminished teachers’ involvement and weakened the support system for students.

The current government’s move to reintroduce PTAs seeks to restore the collaborative framework that supports both educators and families in fostering a conducive learning environment.

Mr Haruna Iddrisu has therefore, called on stakeholders to engage actively with PTAs to foster better educational environments, saying by reinstating the PTAs, the government aims to strengthen community involvement in schools.

  • Eliminate 20% excise tax on sweetened beverages to aid 24-hour economy – AGI to govt

Eliminate 20% excise tax on sweetened beverages to aid 24-hour economy – AGI to govt

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has called on the government to eliminate 20% excise tax on locally made sweetened drinks and fruit juices.

According to the AGI, getting rid of this tax will help support the government’s 24-hour economy program by allowing local producers to grow their businesses and create more jobs.

They believe that removing the tax will help juice makers return to full production capacity and even produce more than before.

The AGI also argued that cutting the tax will provide more job opportunities in local factories.

Excise tax was introduced in 2023 under the Amendment Act 2023 (Act 1093) and has made things harder for local juice makers.

Since the tax started, sales for some companies have dropped by over 50%, and their production capacity has fallen from about 85% to just 38%.

In a letter to the new Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the AGI said the tax has led to many job losses and allowed imported products to take over the local market.

Local producers like Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Limited, Healthlife Beverages Limited, Kasapreko Limited, and Aquafresh Limited are also struggling to compete with imported goods, rising production costs, and multiple taxes.

The AGI has therefore, warned that if the government doesn’t address these problems, the entire sector could collapse, placing the 24-hour economy goals in jeopardy.

While the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson gears up to present 2025 Budget to Parliament on March 10, the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has called for the inclusivity of pro-business reforms and policies.

According to the institution, the private sector has experienced significant economic difficulties over the past decade due to lack of fiscal discipline, high fiscal liabilities from the financial and energy sectors, and expensive fiscal response to global shocks.

In view of this the GNCCI calls on government to use the 2025 National Budget to initiate policies and incentives that simulate private sector growth as a launch platform to resetting the economy.

The Ghana Federation of Labour also sent a letter to the government, asking them to reconsider the excise tax, as it is seriously damaging the local beverage production industry.

Increase security measures for MoMo vendors – Criminologist advises

A criminologist from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Jones Opoku-Ware, has raised concerns about the safety of mobile money (MoMo) vendors operating in public spaces.

He pointed out that the visibility of small-scale MoMo vendors, who often use small containers, umbrellas, and makeshift tables, exposes their transactions to the public, making them vulnerable to criminal activities.

“Those small containers and umbrellas with chairs and tables expose their transactions to the public. This is a form of banking, though small-scale, so it should be well covered,” Dr. Opoku-Ware emphasized. “They can get a shop and, if possible, have security on-site.”

Dr. Opoku-Ware further proposed that telecommunication companies should introduce more stringent security measures for MoMo vendors to ensure safer operations.

He suggested that telecommunications networks should make it a requirement for MoMo vendors to operate in secured, confined spaces that meet safety standards.

“The telcos must ensure the vendors can prove they operate in a safe and confined space with adequate security measures in place,” he said. “MoMo is creating a lot of jobs and helping people with their transactions, so it should not be done in open spaces that expose vendors to criminals.”

Dr. Opoku-Ware’s comments come at a time when mobile money services are rapidly growing in Ghana, providing convenient financial services to people, especially in remote areas. However, concerns over security for vendors and customers have been rising, with reports of theft and fraud increasing in open-air MoMo operations.

She’s single and childless, stop the lies –  Florence Obinim defends Benedicta Gafah

Florence Obinim, gospel musician and wife of Bishop Daniel Obinim, has come to the defense of actress Benedicta Gafah, who has been the subject of social media rumors alleging she is romantically involved with her husband.

In a video shared on February 17, 2025, Florence expressed concern over the damaging claims and how they could affect Gafah’s reputation and her prospects of finding a partner.

“Benedicta Gafah is single and she doesn’t even have kids. She would be happy if a man were to marry her today so she can start giving birth. So why would you lie just to tarnish her image?” Florence said in the video. “The woman who is behind all these lies is also fond of stealing people’s husbands after she gives a fake prophecy. All her children are from different men,” she added, addressing the person allegedly spreading these rumors.

Florence also used the opportunity to address persistent rumors about her own appearance.

“Some people also criticized me and made all sorts of claims that I had bleached. I haven’t bleached, and that is my natural color,” she clarified.

These remarks come in response to earlier reports on social media claiming that Benedicta Gafah was involved in an extramarital affair with Florence’s husband, Bishop Daniel Obinim. Florence firmly rejected these allegations, stating that no other woman could take her husband from her.

“I am not aware of any such developments,” she said in a video response. “No woman has the ability to take my husband away from me.”

She fought my 10-year-old son – Mzbel sheds light on ‘fight’ with Charlotte Oduro

Ghanaian musician Mzbel has addressed her reasons for publicly criticizing Counselor Charlotte Oduro following the latter’s marriage collapse.

In a recent interview, Mzbel explained that her reaction stemmed from Oduro’s past comments about her son, Okomfo Black.

“When issues about my son came up, this woman took a strong stance against him. She made it very personal, and I was shocked. I can confidently say I have a problem with her,” Mzbel stated. “She claimed she would stand against my child—a ten-year-old boy?”

Expressing further displeasure, she added, “She said she would fight for her God, yet she couldn’t even fight for her own marriage. She was trying to battle a ten-year-old boy over religious beliefs.”

Mzbel also questioned Oduro’s credibility as a counselor and pastor, saying, “I expected her to handle the situation differently. A child that young should be given room to grow and understand things with time.”

According to Mzbel, she began paying closer attention to Oduro after the incident and was dismayed by the kind of advice she offered.

“I was disappointed that people actually go to her for counseling. It was clear her marriage would fail—she constantly insulted her husband and thought it was a joke. She hasn’t made marriage appealing to us unmarried ones. She hasn’t set a good example,” she concluded.

The General Overseer of the Royal Victory Family Church, Apostle Solomon Oduro, officially announced the end of his marriage to his wife, Rev. Charlotte Oduro.

The couple, well-known in public circles, particularly Rev. Charlotte Oduro, who frequently appears on media platforms discussing relationship issues, have reportedly been separated for the last three years.

I will only consider surgery to reduce my breast size – Maame Serwaa

Ghanaian actress Clara Benson, popularly known as Maame Serwaa, has dismissed speculations that she has undergone cosmetic surgery to enhance her body.

Speaking on The Okukuseku Show with Emelia Brobbey, the Kumawood actress clarified that although her physique is entirely natural, she wouldn”t mind undergoing the knife to alter the size of her breast.

“I haven’t done any body enhancement before. The only time I considered it was to reduce the size of my breasts because I felt they were too large. If I ever decide to have a procedure, it would be that,” she stated.

Maame Serwaa further explained that if she ever chooses to undergo breast reduction surgery, she would document the process to educate others about its significance.

“Even if I decide to do it, I would make sure to document it so others who might want to undergo the same surgery will understand it’s not just about fashion,” she added.

Her remarks come in response to ongoing public debates and rumors regarding her appearance. However, the actress remains firm in her stance, reaffirming that her body is natural and that any future surgical decision would be purely for personal comfort rather than aesthetics.

I am not getting married to Chika Ike – Regina Daniels’ husband

Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko has dismissed widespread speculation that he is set to marry Nollywood actress Chika Ike as his seventh wife and that she is expecting his child.

In an official statement issued by his Director of Communications, the claims were described as “entirely baseless and a product of malicious speculation.”

“Our attention has been drawn to recent false reports suggesting that Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko is planning to marry Nollywood actress Chika Ike as his seventh wife and that she is pregnant for him. We categorically state that these claims are entirely baseless and a product of malicious speculation,” the statement read.

The statement also refuted reports linking Nwoko to comments about musician Tuface Idibia and polygamy, labeling them as false.

“As a public figure married to a popular actress, it is not unusual for bloggers to spread falsehoods to attract attention. However, the senator remains focused on his national assignment and political duties, with no time for distractions,” the statement added.

Addressing media outlets, Nwoko’s office urged journalists to verify facts before publication, warning against the legal repercussions of misinformation.

“This office remains open to journalists seeking accurate information, and we urge media practitioners to verify facts before publication to avoid the legal repercussions of spreading misinformation.”

The speculation intensified after Nwoko’s wife, actress Regina Daniels, deactivated her Instagram account, sparking rumors of turmoil in their marriage. Additionally, Chika Ike’s recent announcement of her pregnancy fueled assumptions of a possible connection with the billionaire politician.

Despite the social media frenzy, Senator Nwoko’s office remains firm in its position, dismissing the claims as false and urging the public to disregard the rumors.

  • Cholera fatalities rise as GHS launches nationwide vaccination, awareness initiatives

Cholera fatalities rise as GHS launches nationwide vaccination, awareness initiatives

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is ramping up vaccination and awareness campaigns as a cholera outbreak claims 40 lives and affects over 6,000 people nationwide.

The outbreak, which started in Ada East, Greater Accra, in October 2024, has since spread to coastal regions and parts of the Eastern and Ashanti regions.

Dr. Kwame Amponsa-Achiano, Head of Prevention and Control at the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), told JoyNews that many victims passed away before reaching medical facilities.

“Many victims died before they could be admitted to the hospital. They waited, hoping the diarrhoea would subside on its own,” he said.

He detailed the spread of the outbreak: “We initially recorded cases in Ada East in October, which then spread to Ada West before returning to Ada East. We also noticed isolated cases in other parts of Greater Accra, including Ga South, Kasoa, and Katamanso,” he said.

As the outbreak expanded, GHS responded by launching vaccination campaigns.

“When the epicentre shifted from Ada East to Ada West, we had to intervene. That’s when the vaccination programme was initiated,” he added.

The situation worsened around Christmas, with a sharp increase in cases in the Western Region, especially in Shama District and Takoradi.

“During the Christmas period, we saw a notable rise in cases in the Western Region, particularly in Takoradi and Shama District. The number of confirmed cases has now exceeded 6,000,” he stated. “Although not all deaths have been confirmed as cholera-related, any outbreak with symptoms resembling diarrhoea is classified as cholera. Sadly, over 40 people have died.”

Dr. Amponsa-Achiano also stressed the need to tackle the root causes of cholera, especially water and sanitation issues.

“When an outbreak occurs, we conduct extensive investigations, including community engagement, health education, and communication,” he explained.

“We are working closely with local authorities to enforce sanitation laws and ensure access to clean water. Vaccination is just one part of our response,” he noted.

The key issue is water and sanitation, and once that is addressed, we can address the root cause of cholera,” he said.

He confirmed that vaccination efforts have been intensified, especially in high-risk areas like Awutu Senya East in the Central Region.

“Vaccination is crucial, but we must also address the underlying factors causing the outbreak. We’ve already started vaccination efforts in Awutu Senya East,” he concluded.

  • Fisheries Commission Partners GKFFCU to boost farmed fish sales at Kumasi Racecourse market

Fisheries Commission Partners GKFFCU to boost farmed fish sales at Kumasi Racecourse market

The Fisheries Commission, together with the Greater Kumasi Fish Farmers Cooperative Union (GKFFCU) has acquired a space at the Kumasi Racecourse market to promote the sale of farmed fish.

This is to ensure that fish farmers gain the required profit from their investment since the farmed fish would be sold at standard prices at the market.

Mr. Gideon Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Director of the Fisheries Commission told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Kumasi that, the measure was to prevent cheating and help fish farmers obtain appropriate prices for their produce and thereby recoup their investment.

He said low and unfair prices made fish farmers hardly gain the needed profit from their investment, leading to losses and inability to expand investment in the aquaculture business.

“Fish farming is a very profitable business. However, fishmongers often purchase farmed fish cheaply from the farmers leaving them with less or no profit,” he noted.

Mr Boakye observed that due to the challenges in profit marginalization, some fish farmers had moved out of the business to other profitable ones, leaving the region with fewer fish farmers.

This situation was affecting productivity in the sector.

The region in 2024, produced a total of 1,355 metric tons of farmed fish, which was a little above the 1,315 metric tons of farmed fish produced in 2023.

Another challenge Mr. Boakye noted was the high cost of fish feed and this also contributed to low production in the region.

He said the availability of farmed fish market, which would be regulated by the Fisheries Commission, would attract more investors and consumers of farmed fish in the region.

This would also improve productivity as fish farmers would be happy to continue to invest in aquaculture to contribute to protein food sustainability in the country.

Mr Boakye said the Fisheries Commission would ensure that quality and healthy farmed fish were sold in the market which would have all the standard equipment.

He noted that the formation of the Greater Kumasi Fish Farmers Cooperative Union (GKFFCU) was to make sure that all the fish farmers came together under the regulatory body.

The union would help maintain order among fish farmers and serve as a supporting body where farmers registered with them can benefit from.

Mr. Boakye called on other stakeholders to support the Fisheries Commission and the GKCU to realize its vision by providing a mini-farmed fish market in all the cities in the districts of the region.

Kumasi power outages linked to technical challenges, not ‘dumsor’ – ECG

The Public Relations Officer for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Ashanti West, Benjamin Obeng Antwi, has addressed the recent power outages in Kumasi, reassuring the public that it’s not due to “dumsor.”

In the past few weeks, some areas in Kumasi have experienced power cuts, with some communities without electricity for more than 24 hours. But Mr. Obeng Antwi explained that the outages are linked to maintenance work being done to improve power supply in the region.

“There is no ‘dumsor’, we had an underground cable fault. When that happens, we have to dig the ground and bring out all the cables so we can test them. We cannot work on the cables without turning off the electricity, that is why Kumasi has been experiencing some outages,” he said.

He also mentioned that old power structures are being renovated, which has caused further outages.

“We have five bulk supply points where GRIDCO and ECG connect to get electricity. These structures are quite old, and while we’re working on them, we’re facing some outages. We’ve decided to stop burying the cables underground and will increase the wire sizes to make the power more stable,” he said.

Mr. Obeng Antwi added that the old system worked in the past, but with time, it’s necessary to upgrade. “Even with the new, larger wires, we might need to make changes again in the future,” he explained.

He also took the opportunity to apologize to the people of Kumasi for the inconvenience caused by the power cuts. “On behalf of ECG, I want to apologize to the people of Ashanti Region. We know the power hasn’t been consistent since the start of the year, but this is due to a technical issue, not because we’re bringing back ‘dumsor’,” he said.

Finally, he urged the public to report any suspected power thefts to the police.

“We have changed a lot of fuse at Adum for a couple of weeks now. People keep breaking the locks stealing the fuse. When you see anyone around an ECG pole, please go and ask them if they work at ECG. You can identify the real ECG workers by their overall coats and reflectors. Also no ECG worker works alone, they always move in groups. When they act suspicious please report them to the police,” he added.

Ibrahim Tia recounts harrowing attack at Walewale Chief’s Palace

The North East Regional Minister, Ibrahim Tia, has recounted a chilling experience during a visit to the Walewale Chief’s palace amidst growing unrest in the area. The violence, which has resulted in the tragic deaths of seven individuals and numerous injuries, stemmed from an attack on a bus that was later set ablaze.

In the midst of the chaos, Minister Tia was determined to manage the escalating situation. He had received news from the Ministry of the Interior about the imposition of a curfew in Walewale and surrounding areas. Understanding the gravity of the situation, he decided to brief the Walewale Chief on the matter. “I’ve just gotten word from the Ministry of Interior that a curfew would be imposed on Walewale and its environs. As such, I have to brief you [chief]. We tried, but this is where we are now. Let us still see how we can manage the curfew period and comply with it and get back and plead subsequently for its review,” he explained.

The Minister’s day was initially focused on offering support to the victims of the unrest. After hearing about the tragic deaths and injuries, he visited the hospital to personally check on the injured and pay for their medical bills. Following that, he set out to pay condolences to the families of the deceased and offer his sympathy. However, his mission took an unexpected and dangerous turn.

While at the Chief’s palace, preparing to meet with the bereaved families, Minister Tia was attacked by a mob. “I was attacked at the Chief’s palace. My vehicle was vandalized. I was held hostage for more than two hours,” he recounted. The attack left him trapped and vulnerable, but fortunately, a combined force of military and police officers intervened and rescued him from the situation. “It was the combined military and police that came and rescued me, and I left,” he added.

Despite the harrowing experience, Minister Tia remained resolute in his commitment to the people of Walewale, continuing to navigate the difficult situation with the hope of restoring peace and order.

Public trust is the core of effective governance – Mahama tells his appointees

President John Dramani Mahama has admonished members of his government to appreciate and uphold the responsibility and expectations that come with being in office.

Speaking at an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Ethiopia on Monday, February 17, 2025, the president also challenged his appointees to live up to the level of public accountability that comes with their positions.

“Those of us in leadership must lead by example; we must be prepared to be held accountable for taking the public trust. As I have told every body, if you accept to serve in the public sector, then you must be prepared to answer to the people because it is the people who put you there; you serve at their pleasure.

“The green letter comes with a lot of responsibility and expectation, and I have said that while we hold those who came before us accountable, we should remember that we are also going to be held accountable,” the president said.

The president highlighted some key issues for his government, including amending the constitution, stabilizing the economy, and creating job opportunities for the youth.

“So, amending the constitution, holding people accountable for the public trust, and making sure that we stabilize the economy and create opportunities for our young people to work as quickly as possible, is the task ahead of us. We may not be able to complete that process, but at least I am determined that we lay the foundation and put Ghana on the right track,” the President said.

Dating is for gathering data, not for sleeping with each other – Bishop Charles Agyinasare

Founder and leader of Perez Chapel International, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, has issued a strong message to individuals in relationships, advising them not to prioritize sexual intimacy during the dating phase.

In a video shared online on February 17, 2025, the respected Ghanaian pastor stressed the importance of using the dating period for understanding one’s partner rather than engaging in physical intimacy.

“Remember that dating is not for mating or for coupling. When you start going out with somebody, it’s not for you to have sex together. Because mating will cloud your judgment. Your period of meeting is the period of gathering data,” Bishop Agyinasare explained to his congregation.

The bishop emphasized that rushing into physical intimacy could hinder one’s ability to truly get to know the other person, potentially leading to poor decisions.

He further warned that not thoroughly understanding a partner before marriage could result in greater complications down the line.

“The truth of the matter is, if you don’t do more work on the person you are going to marry before you marry, you will do more work after the marriage,” he added.

His advice highlights the need for couples to prioritize emotional and mental compatibility over physical attraction, aiming for a deeper understanding before committing to lifelong partnerships.

Marriage left a scar on me – Christiana Awuni

Veteran Kumawood actress Christiana Awuni has shared a deeply personal revelation about how past relationships and marriage have left her emotionally scarred, making it difficult for her to consider love again.

Speaking about her experiences, Awuni disclosed that her marriage was filled with trauma, leading her to develop a fear of romantic relationships.

“Due to what I went through in marriage and relationships, I no longer have feelings for men. I can be good friends with a man for many years, but as soon as he proposes to me, I stop talking to him. The trauma from my marriage has left a scar on me, so whenever someone proposes, I get scared,” she revealed.

She further recounted the harsh realities she endured, including physical abuse and neglect, which took a toll on her health.

“I even got an ulcer because I was poorly fed. The man I married had money and was also rich, but he stopped providing for my children and me immediately after we got married,” she said.

Given her painful past, Awuni has ruled out the possibility of remarrying or entering another relationship.

“I don’t think I would ever get married or go into another relationship. I don’t want to give love another chance because of what I went through,” she stated.

Her story sheds light on the hidden struggles many women face in marriage and the lasting emotional wounds that can shape their outlook on love and relationships.

My wife nearly lost her life – Tic Tac opens up on emotional birthday celebration

Ghanaian Highlife musician Tic Tac has revealed that his wife’s recent birthday celebration was more than just a party but a heartfelt expression of gratitude after she survived a life-threatening ordeal.

In an interview with Zionfelix on February 17, 2025, Tic Tac, who has been married for 15 years, shared that his wife’s traumatic experience in 2024 made him realize the importance of cherishing every moment.

“It’s her birthday, and some people would buy cars on birthdays, but I just got her a pool house. The reason for doing that is straightforward. In life, we live once and not twice, and when you see something happening and get the chance to survive, you have to go all out,” he said.

While he refrained from disclosing details of the incident, he acknowledged how deeply it affected both of them.

“What I saw and what my wife went through, I just give glory and honour to God. I’m not typically into birthdays, but when it’s a big celebration like this, I think we need to make it happen because she nearly lost her life,” he added.

Beyond celebrating life, Tic Tac also reflected on the strength of his marriage and offered advice to singles on choosing a life partner.

“She was my best friend before I married her, and she has been ever since. Let your wife be your best friend because when she is your best friend, you won’t see it as marriage. All you would see is a companion… We fight, but at the end of the day, we resolve our differences. My wife is like my brother and sister,” he shared.

Tic Tac’s heartfelt testimony underscores the importance of love, friendship, and gratitude in marriage.

Recalling his early struggles, Dr. Oteng recounted how he used to sell medicine on foot while living in Breman West.

Despite the ridicule, he never wavered in his belief that his small business had the potential to transform his life.

Years later, one of the same women who had laughed at him admitted to him that they had underestimated his hustle.

  • Don’t give people titles they don’t own – Nana Aba rejects ‘Honourable’ Tag for Okraku-Mantey

Don’t give people titles they don’t own – Nana Aba rejects ‘Honourable’ Tag for Okraku-Mantey

Renowned media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has fiercely criticized former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, over his remarks about United Showbiz, questioning his impact in the entertainment industry.

The controversy began after Okraku-Mantey, in an interview on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, suggested that the show had deviated from entertainment discussions and should be renamed.

When asked if he would make an appearance, he responded, “When we have proper conversations. Do you know that show is no longer showbiz? You need to change its name. I don’t have a problem with the show. When the ethics work over there, I’ll come. Now, I don’t know where I will fit in.”

His comments became a hot topic on United Showbiz, where Nana Aba Anamoah did not hold back in her response. She questioned his right to critique the program when, in her view, he had done little to address industry issues during his tenure as a minister.

“He said there are issues in the entertainment industry. How did he deal with that when he was a radio presenter for a very long time? How did he use his space to tackle those issues?” she asked.

She further argued that his time in government offered him the perfect opportunity to make meaningful changes, yet he failed to do so.

“He was given a position that could have allowed him to make the space he is complaining about better. What was his impact? Zero. You know what? He sounds better when he is quiet. He shouldn’t talk about what people are doing in his space because he has not been impactful,” she asserted.

Anamoah also took issue with how the show’s host, Empress Gifty, addressed Okraku-Mantey as “honourable,” firmly rejecting the title.

“He is not an honourable. Don’t give people titles when they don’t own them. He is not a member of parliament. He has never been,” she fired back.

The exchange, captured in a video making rounds on social media, has sparked mixed reactions.

While some supported Anamoah’s outburst, others criticized her tone, with some speculating that she might have a personal grudge against Okraku-Mantey.

Ghanaian actress Clara Benson, popularly known as Maame Serwaa, has revealed the emotional turmoil she endured following the death of her mother, Mrs. Rose Amoateng Benson.

In an emotional interview on the ‘Okukuseku’ show on YouTube, the Kumawood actress narrated how the loss of her mother, coupled with the pain of hurtful accusations and rumors that accused her of being responsible for her mother’s death, pushed her to the brink of devastation.

“I was very hurt when I heard people say I had killed my mother or used her for something. Let’s say I wasn’t who I am today or I was someone normal. Would people still say such things about me?” she questioned.

Adding that “It’s not easy. I was very close to her. I remember talking to my mum, and she said she wouldn’t die until she held her grandchildren in her hands. Everyone who was close to me knew how tight I was with my mother,” she recounted.

Maame Serwaa said the backlash took a severe toll on her mental health, leading her to contemplate suicide on multiple occasions.

“I felt really bad. There were times I would look at myself in the mirror and ask, ‘Am I a bad person?’ I tried to harm myself on so many occasions. I felt that I had lost a part of myself.

“The people around me were even restricting me from my phone because they didn’t want me to see the things circulating about me online,” she revealed.

No procurement funds – KSM taunts persons ready to milk 68th independence day celebration

Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has reacted to President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to revise the mode of celebrating the country’s Independence Day, saying that many people are upset because the usual procurement activities tied to the event will be put on hold.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, KSM humorously pointed out that the suspension of the Independence Day celebrations has frustrated those who anticipated benefiting from the procurement funds typically used for various activities.

“I’m sure many people are pissed because now procurement was about to get into full gear. Those who were going to procure new socks for the soldiers to march in, procure chocolate for the school kids, and paint their houses in anticipation of procurement funds,” KSM said, laughing as he emphasized the routine economic activities surrounding the national celebration.

KSM also voiced his approval of the decision to downsize the celebrations, describing it as a necessary move considering Ghana’s current economic state. He questioned the importance of holding extravagant celebrations when the country is facing financial strain.

“What are we trying to show? As a broke-ass country that is highly indebted, that is begging on our knees in front of the IMF, we have the nerve to have a splendid, extravagant celebration of independence. For what? Independence for what?” he asked, challenging the justification for such lavish displays.

The comedian added that he had long believed in the need to suspend the Independence Day celebrations altogether, as Ghana must focus on its economic recovery.

“I was telling my producer at one time that I want to do a show and call for us to suspend this Independence Day thing. What use is it?” KSM questioned, reflecting on the financial cost of military parades and air displays.

KSM concluded by thanking President Mahama for his bold decision and called on Ghanaians to embrace the shift in priorities.

“Your Excellency, let me thank you for this. I truly salute you, and I truly hope that you have the support of Ghanaians. And it’s not just Independence Day. More are coming. Let’s be serious as a nation,” he urged.

Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has strongly supported President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to suspend the rotational celebration of the country’s Independence Anniversary, calling it a necessary move in light of the nation’s current economic challenges.

In a video on his YouTube channel, KSM expressed his approval of the decision, saying, “No extravagant celebration of independence for a broke-ass country. We don’t have the resources for that.”

He went on to question the relevance of lavish celebrations when the country is facing severe financial difficulties.

“What are we trying to show? As a broke-ass country that is highly indebted, that is begging on our knees in front of the IMF, we have the nerve to have a splendid, extravagant celebration of independence. For what? Independence for what?” KSM questioned, emphasizing the need for financial prudence.

KSM also humorously pointed out the disappointment of those who were looking forward to the usual procurement activities associated with the Independence Day celebrations.

“I’m sure many people are pissed because now procurement was about to get into full gear. Those who were going to procure new socks for the soldiers to march in, procure chocolate for the school kids, and paint their houses in anticipation of procurement funds,” he said, illustrating how the suspension of celebrations impacts the usual economic activity.

The comedian revealed that he had been advocating for this suspension for some time, recognizing the need for the nation to prioritize financial stability over ceremonial displays.

“I was telling my producer at one time that I want to do a show and call for us to suspend this Independence Day thing. What use is it?” he asked, adding, “The soldiers would come and display their military wear. Then the Air Force flies. I’m sure they have to fuel all the planes and all the tankers. What are we trying to show?”

KSM concluded his remarks by thanking President Mahama for his decision and calling for broader public support.

“Your Excellency, let me thank you for this. I truly salute you, and I truly hope that you have the support of Ghanaians. And it’s not just Independence Day. More are coming. Let’s be serious as a nation,” he said.

  • 45% of young men have never approached a woman – Study

45% of young men have never approached a woman – Study

A recent study by DatePsychology has revealed that nearly half 45% of men aged 18 to 25 have never asked a woman out in person.

This growing reluctance may stem from a mix of social anxiety, fear of rejection, and the increasing dominance of digital communication. With dating apps becoming the norm, traditional face-to-face interactions are fading. Additionally, concerns about social boundaries and approaching strangers have made in-person dating even more daunting.

Interestingly, 74% of women aged 25 and under expressed a strong desire to be approached more often, highlighting a disconnect in modern dating dynamics. This shift signals a broader transformation in how young adults form relationships, with technology and evolving social norms reshaping the way romance begins.

    The Factors: Social Anxiety

Studies have shown that today’s young adults are less socially engaged than previous generations. This has been attributed to the rise of online social platforms and the decline of in-person gatherings.

This phenomenon accelerated further with the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced much of the global population into lockdown. Schools operated remotely, dating became virtual, and social events were banned. The only way to connect was through online platforms, making digital interactions the new norm.

But was this convenience worth the impact on young adults’ social skills?

A study by Harmony Healthcare IT found that more than half of Gen Zs (those currently aged 15 to 28) experience some form of daily anxiety. The most common triggers include public spaces, crowds, work environments, acquaintances, and even family, in descending order. Essentially, the more social the situation, the higher their anxiety—leading to fewer opportunities for developing communication skills.

    The Factors: Online Platforms

Social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat have further reinforced this issue. While they provide an easy way to connect, they also heighten social anxiety with unrealistic lifestyle comparisons, information overload, and online commentary that dictates behaviour (cough cough, podcast culture). At such a crucial developmental stage, it’s no surprise that many young adults feel too overwhelmed to socialise properly.

How to Improve Your Social Confidence with Women

Despite these challenges, there are ways to build confidence and improve your dating skills:

    Use social media—to better yourself

This sounds very counteractive but yes, using social media is actually a good way to combat this habit. Platforms offer tailored content, so if you follow self-improvement pages and communication experts, you’ll receive valuable tips to boost your confidence.

Attend more social gatherings—you’ll meet more people

It’s tempting to stay home and play video games or endlessly scroll through your phone, but this limits your social interactions. Say yes to that seminar, youth programme, or birthday party—even if it doesn’t seem exciting. Just showing up is a step in the right direction.

Start more conversations—it’s just a chat

Like any skill, communication improves with practice. Talk to the bank cashier, the kenkey seller in your area, or even a fellow commuter. The more you engage, the easier it becomes.

    4. Be okay with rejection—it’s not that deep

Many men fear rejection, but a simple no isn’t the end of the world. Take your chances, and if she declines, move on. It’s never personal.

    Leverage your strengths

You don’t need to be the best-looking or tallest guy to make an impression. Your talents and personality can be just as attractive. Are you artistic? A great storyteller? Have a deep, soothing voice? Use these to your advantage.

Bonus tip: Timing matters. Ask her out when she’s in a good mood—it increases your chances.

So, young men, it’s never too late or too difficult to ask a woman out. Take your shot—you might just be glad you did!

“Let life be as simple as that because we own it,” she stated, suggesting that people should take things one day at a time in 2025.

Her message resonated with viewers, as she called on them to live calmly and intentionally, letting go of the pressures that often come with overconsumption.

Terry Bonchaka kept away from Kwadee due to his excessive weed intake – Fredyma

Veteran Ghanaian music producer Fred Kyei Mensah, also known as Fredyma, has detailed how the late Terry Bonchaka dissociated himself from Okomfo Kwadee because he could not tolerate his excessive weed intake.

He shared this on the back of  ongoing discussions surrounding Okomfo Kwadee’s mental health struggles, individuals and key showbiz stakeholders who have been trying to uncover the true cause of the highlife musician’s plight and searching for potential solutions.

Speaking on Power FM, Fredyma recalled that in 2003, Bonchaka refused to share a car with Kwadee due to excessive smoke.

“In 2003, Terry Bonchaka told me and Regan backstage that he would never sit in any car with Kwadee again. He said his experience with sharing a car with him was really bad because of the weed. And you know, Terry was also a Jehovah’s Witness. He told me all this backstage in 2003, 23 years ago. I remember vividly, he didn’t like it. He was raised in Santase where his dad was a security guard, and he used to smoke weed there. They know.” he recounted.

He further stated that Okomfo Kwadee has not been forthcoming with those who have invested in his recovery and efforts to help him rebuild a meaningful life.

“Kwadee has a problem, and that problem needs to be solved. He came out in the year 2000, and by God’s grace, he became this great. If someone is not Akan and yet they can sing this beautifully in the Akan language, it’s highly commendable,” Freddyma added.

Discussions about Kwadee’s condition have grown in recent times, especially after he was seen looking unkempt and in poor health.

While there have been efforts to help him, some stakeholders are doubtful, as he has repeatedly fallen back into the same state despite receiving treatment and support.

  • Lands Minister seeks Otumfuo’s support for mining, forest reforms

Lands Minister seeks Otumfuo’s support for mining, forest reforms

Lands Minister, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on February 14, 2025. The Minister, accompanied by key agency heads under his ministry, emphasized the importance of the Asantehene’s support as the government works on reforms in the mining and forest sectors.

Hon. Buah highlighted the significance of Otumfuo’s wisdom and leadership, especially in addressing the devastating impact of illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey. The Minister acknowledged the Asantehene’s previous interventions in the galamsey fight and appealed for continued support as the government works on a comprehensive strategy to combat the menace.

The Minister revealed that the government has set in motion several initiatives, including the formation of an 18-member expert committee tasked with reviewing mining regulations and overhauling the Community Mining Scheme. The government is also reclassifying mining categories and introducing medium-scale mining to help address the challenges in the sector.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II praised the Lands Minister for his leadership and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver on the nation’s natural resource management. However, Otumfuo emphasized that addressing youth unemployment was key to resolving the galamsey problem, suggesting that creating sustainable livelihoods for youth in mining areas could prevent their involvement in illegal mining.

Additionally, the Asantehene advised that the ministry should focus on apprehending and prosecuting the influential figures behind the illegal mining business, rather than focusing solely on the youth.

On matters of public lands, Otumfuo counseled the Minister to address the ongoing sale of public lands to public officials, calling for a halt to the practice.

The Minister also acknowledged the Asantehene’s support for the government’s afforestation initiatives, notably the Tree for Life project, and assured him of continued efforts to combat illegal mining and its impacts.

In a separate engagement, the Minister joined other officials in touring the Afari Military Hospital, a project that was initiated under the Mahama administration but had stalled under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership.

  • Finance Ministry, UK researchers assess effectiveness of Ghana’s VAT system

Finance Ministry, UK researchers assess effectiveness of Ghana’s VAT system

A report has been released by the Ministry of Finance examining Ghana’s VAT system, developed with assistance from researchers at the Institute for Fiscal Studies in the UK.

The report, titled “A Review of Ghana’s VAT System,” investigates how VAT and related taxes are structured, managed, and their revenue impact over time.

A statement from the Ministry explains that the report draws on VAT policy standards, global best practices, and detailed tax data to evaluate the system’s effectiveness.

    Key Findings

Ghana’s Value Added Tax (VAT) system is designed to be progressive, as exemptions on essential foodstuffs help reduce the financial burden on lower-income households. However, in absolute cash terms, wealthier households tend to benefit more from certain exemptions. This disparity has prompted the government to reassess the VAT structure as part of its Medium-Term Revenue Strategy (MTRS) to ensure a fairer distribution of tax benefits.

While many businesses operating below the VAT registration threshold voluntarily register for the tax, some businesses that exceed the threshold fail to comply with registration requirements. Additionally, certain registered taxpayers declare zero sales and purchases, underscoring the need for enhanced enforcement measures and strategies to encourage voluntary compliance.

The government’s decision in 2023 to restrict the VAT Flat Rate Scheme (VFRS) exclusively to small taxpayers has likely contributed to increased tax revenue. This adjustment ensures that administrative benefits are directed toward those who genuinely require them while enhancing the overall efficiency of the VAT system.

Despite increases in tax rates, VAT revenue growth remained limited during the late 2010s, largely due to economic expansion driven by investment and exports rather than domestic consumption. This shift in economic dynamics reduced the direct impact of VAT rate hikes on overall tax collection.

The findings from the report have already influenced tax policymaking in Ghana and are guiding reforms under the MTRS. The government is also considering further policy and administrative changes based on the report’s recommendations.

  • Mahama reacts to CLOGSAG’s strike by reassigning Registrar of Births and Deaths

Mahama reacts to CLOGSAG’s strike by reassigning Registrar of Births and Deaths

President John Dramani Mahama has reassigned the newly appointed Registrar of the Births & Deaths Registry, Samuel Adom Botchway, in response to a nationwide strike threat by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG),

CLOGSAG announced on February 13, 2025, that it would launch the strike on February 20, 2025, protesting Botchway’s appointment. The association argued that Botchway’s political ties made him unfit for the position.

Isaac Bampoe Addo, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, explained that the decision was made during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on February 11, 2025.

“The National Executive Council (NEC) decided that should Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway assume office as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, CLOGSAG should declare a nationwide strike,” Addo said.

In response to the looming industrial action, President Mahama has acted swiftly by reassigning Botchway. A statement from the presidency emphasized the government’s commitment to being a listening administration.

“Newly appointed Registrar of Births & Deaths Registry, Samuel Adom Botchway, to be reassigned following CLOGSAG’s announcement of a strike,” the statement read.

This move comes as part of the Mahama administration’s attempt to resolve the situation while maintaining peace and stability within government operations.

Jakpa’s health was at stake; medical report was not malicious – Gofred Dame

Former Attorney-General Godfred Dame has defended his suggestion for businessman Richard Jakpa to obtain a medical report, insisting it was purely for his well-being and not an attempt to influence the controversial ambulance procurement trial.

Speaking at a press conference on February 14, Dame explained that Jakpa was genuinely unwell and needed the medical certificate to secure an adjournment in court.

“When he went, he actually obtained the adjournment because he was not well. So the fact of my asking him to obtain a medical certificate because he was not well was nothing but factual,” Dame stated.

He further revealed that his conversation with Jakpa—which was secretly recorded—was their only interaction during the trial, emphasizing that he had no hidden agenda.

“Not knowing he himself had that illicit agenda and was secretly recording and was saying the things that he got on the tape, which came from him and not from me,” Dame added.

His comments follow Attorney-General Dominic Ayine’s announcement that the case had been discontinued, ending a trial that had sparked intense public and political debate.

  • Ghana responds to USAID suspension with focus on local food growth

Ghana responds to USAID suspension with focus on local food growth

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to ramp up food production in Ghana following the suspension of USAID, a longstanding source of aid for Africa.

The decision comes after former U.S. President Donald Trump moved to shut down USAID, citing concerns over its use of taxpayers’ money for foreign aid.

The suspension is expected to have widespread economic consequences across Africa, with Ghana facing a revenue shortfall of $156 million.

Of this amount, $78.2 million will directly affect essential health programs, including malaria prevention, maternal and child health, family planning, and HIV/AIDS interventions.

Speaking at a town hall forum during the Munich Security Conference in Germany on Friday, President Mahama acknowledged the challenges posed by the funding cut.

However, he urged Africans to take proactive steps by boosting local food production and exploring alternative funding sources to mitigate the impact.

  • Liberia: Over 450 govt officials suspended over failure to declare assets

Liberia: Over 450 govt officials suspended over failure to declare assets

Liberian President Joseph Boakai has suspended more than 450 government officials, including ministers, for failing to declare their assets as required by law.

The affected officials, numbering 457, will be off duty without pay for a month or until they comply with the asset declaration requirement, the presidency announced.

Among those suspended are the ministers of education and health, special envoys for tourism and investment, officials from the Executive Mansion, and several county administrators.

Boakai, who campaigned on a strong anti-corruption agenda, stressed that failure to declare assets undermines efforts to promote transparency and accountability in governance.

“Public officials are reminded that asset declaration is not only a legal obligation but also a fundamental measure to promote transparency and restore public trust in government institutions,” he stated.

Liberia’s law mandates public officers to disclose their assets before assuming office and upon exiting government roles. The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) published the full list of non-compliant officials, reinforcing the government’s commitment to accountability.

While some of the suspended officials rushed to the anti-corruption commission to submit their declarations, reactions to Boakai’s decision have been mixed.

Political analyst Abdullah Kiatamba acknowledged the importance of the move but noted that some officials may have faced difficulties in filing their declarations. However, civil society group Solidarity and Trust for a New Day dismissed the suspensions as inadequate.

“Suspending these officials for just one month is a meaningless, symbolic gesture—a slap on the wrist that no serious person should take seriously,” the group stated.

Boakai, who took office last year, has taken other steps to demonstrate his commitment to responsible governance, including slashing his own salary by 40%. His predecessor, George Weah, faced heavy criticism for alleged corruption and excessive spending, which triggered public protests amid rising economic hardships.

With the suspensions in place, all eyes are on the administration to see if stronger measures will follow to enforce accountability in Liberia’s government.

Known for his fearless lyrics, Idengo often criticized both the Congolese government and rebel groups. His latest song, Bunduki (Swahili for “weapon”), condemned rebel forces occupying Goma.

The singer recently escaped incarceration after M23 rebels stormed Goma. He had previously been jailed for encouraging protests and challenging President Félix Tshisekedi’s leadership.

Congolese officials have strongly condemned the murder, while opposition figures are pushing for a full investigation and swift justice.

I keep a bald look to avoid barbers from spending my money – Mr. Drew

Ghanaian musician Mr. Drew has revealed that one of the biggest perks of rocking a bald look is the money he saves on haircuts.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, the singer explained that maintaining his signature bald head is a personal choice, not a necessity. Unlike many who visit barbers regularly, he takes matters into his own hands.

“Barbers no dey chop my money coz me naa Adey shave my head. If you go chop my money, ebe sake of my beard,” he joked.

Beyond the financial benefit, Mr. Drew noted that his bald look is a deliberate branding move. In an industry where dreadlocks and various hairstyles dominate, he wanted something unique to set himself apart.

“I wanted something that would stand out,” he shared, adding that he regularly shaves his head and could grow his hair if he chose to.

However, the look comes with its challenges, particularly when dealing with the sun. He admitted that direct sunlight can be unbearable, making outdoor activities and daytime video shoots uncomfortable.

“We can’t really walk in the sun because ego really blaze the brain, yeah man,” he said, explaining why he avoids daytime shoots.

Despite this, Mr. Drew remains committed to his bald look, enjoying both its practicality and the distinct identity it gives him in the music industry.

Some events dropped me without explanation – Jack Alolome after endorsing NDC

Gospel musician and staunch NDC supporter, Jack Alolome, has opened up about the challenges he faced after publicly endorsing former President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking in an interview on Accra FM, Alolome revealed that his decision to align with Mahama during a campaign launch in Tamale led to mixed reactions, some of which affected his career.

According to him, shortly after his endorsement, he received calls from individuals expressing their disappointment. Beyond that, he began noticing an unusual pattern—his bookings for events were being quietly canceled.

“I didn’t really mind the backlash, but I started noticing that some shows I had been booked for were suddenly canceled, even though the event still went on,” he shared.

He recounted a specific incident in 2024 when he was scheduled to perform at a convention where former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Adu-Twum was a special guest. Days before the event, he was informed that he had been dropped from the lineup, with no reason given for the decision.

Despite these setbacks, Alolome remains resolute in his support for the NDC and John Mahama, emphasizing that his political choices are a reflection of his personal beliefs.
