  • Stonebwoy lashes out on Shatta Wale for setting up MC Portfolio with 5k gift

Stonebwoy lashes out on Shatta Wale for setting up MC Portfolio with 5k gift

Stonebwoy has accused his rival, Shatta Wale, of luring and deceiving MC Portfolio with a GH¢5,000 gift, breaking his silence after weeks of speculation.

Contrary to expectations that the dancehall musician would cut ties with MC Portfolio over allegations of betrayal, Stonebwoy has taken a different approach, shifting the focus to Shatta Wale’s actions.

This turn of events surprised many, as Stonebwoy’s history suggested he might quietly distance himself from the controversy, similar to his handling of the Kelvynboy situation.

The controversy began when MC Portfolio, a member of Stonebwoy’s camp, accepted the money from Shatta Wale, igniting public debate and predictions of a fallout.

However, rather than succumbing to calls to publicly reprimand or blacklist MC Portfolio, Stonebwoy has chosen to address the actions of his nemesis, leaving his camp dynamics intact for now.

In a conversation with Angel FM’s Ike De Unpredictable, Stonebwoy said, “Don’t you know the tricks of this man? This trickster? This settings man? He set him (MC Portfolio) up with GH¢ 5,000. He’s keeping tons of five cedi notes in his room so he thinks he has money.”

He added, “He (Shatta) met him (Portfolio) and wanted to intimidate him with five cedi notes. Ask him (pointing to Portfolio), how many times have I promised to give him stuff? How much is GH¢ 5,000? By God’s grace, I have more than GH¢ 5,000 to offer.”

Stonebwoy also made it clear that his usual silence on issues does not mean he is unwilling to speak up when necessary.

“Do you guys actually think we are scared to speak up?” he queried.

Stonebwoy made these statements while Portfolio was present in the studio, remaining still throughout.

    Background

MC Portfolio recently faced a real test of his loyalty when he came face-to-face with Shatta Wale.

After publicly criticizing Shatta Wale, especially on social media, things took an unexpected turn for MC Portfolio during a live TV show, ‘Fakye Showbiz.’

In a surprising moment, Shatta Wale handed MC Portfolio GH¢5,000 right there on air.

MC Portfolio was left shocked, confused, and a bit excited. At first, he wondered why Shatta was giving him the money but ended up accepting it anyway.

    The aftermath

The reaction to this incident shook the industry. Many, including Stonebwoy’s close friends, criticized MC Portfolio for accepting money from Shatta Wale, seeing it as a sign of disloyalty.

Some even claimed that Shatta Wale had cleverly used the gift to weaken Stonebwoy’s bond with one of his main supporters.

DJ Slim, a well-known figure in Stonebwoy’s circle, expressed his disappointment during a talk on his ‘Street is Watching’ podcast.

He said that, as a member of Stonebwoy’s team, MC Portfolio should never have accepted money from Shatta Wale, his rival.

DJ Slim also pointed out that MC Portfolio seemed to change his behavior around Shatta Wale, especially his body language, which he felt showed signs of betrayal.

He questioned why Shatta Wale gave the money to MC Portfolio in public instead of privately, and reminded him that while Shatta gave him money, Stonebwoy had offered him much more support and exposure.

  • Rice farmers in Northern Region get boost with introduction of ISFM technologies

Rice farmers in Northern Region get boost with introduction of ISFM technologies

Rice farmers in the Tolon District of Ghana’s Northern Region are set to benefit from the adoption of Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM) technologies, introduced during a field day and demonstration visit organized by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research-Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI) at Kpalgun.

The event highlighted several ISFM techniques, including the use of climate-smart rice varieties such as AGRA and Banse, mineral fertilizer combinations, and good agronomic practices.

Farmers observed the AGRA rice variety being evaluated under various mineral fertilizer combinations, compared to traditional methods involving no inputs.

Dr. Edwin Akley, Project Manager for CSIR-SARI, lamented the declining soil health and crop yields, saying, “The steady decline in crop yields and soil health over the years has made it difficult for farmers to produce abundant food to feed their families and the country.”

He added, “The project is being implemented to help enhance crop production and to improve food and nutrition security.” Dr. Akley also noted that the initiative aims to empower young people to view farming as a profitable business, addressing poverty and unemployment in rural communities.

The ISFM initiative forms part of a project titled “Advancing Agriculture through Upscaling of Innovative Soil Health Technologies in Ghana,” funded by the AGRA PIATA Consortium.

It targets 50,000 smallholder farmers across 17 districts in the North East, Northern, Upper East, and Upper West Regions, focusing on rice, maize, soybeans, groundnuts, and cowpeas.

Abdul Ganiyu Amidu, an Agricultural Extension Officer for the Kpalgun operational area, explained the potential benefits of the program. “Easy access to improved and climate-resilient rice varieties will help farmers boost their production capacity because of the persistent dry spell in the area,” he said.

He urged stakeholders to support farmers with quality farm inputs, training, and capacity-building opportunities to fully utilize the technologies.

Farmers in the community expressed optimism about the initiative. A local farmer, Sulemana Adam, encouraged others to adopt the innovative practices, saying, “I piloted the variety, and I encourage other farmers to embrace it to help maximize their yields and production.”

Another farmer, Madam Iddrisu Memunatu, highlighted the program’s impact on women, stating, “The technologies are laudable initiatives, especially for women, as they will help improve our economic resilience and reduce issues of domestic violence, which are often connected to poverty.”

  • Ghana projected to achieve single-digit inflation by quarter 1 of 2026

Ghana projected to achieve single-digit inflation by quarter 1 of 2026

Ghana is expected to bring inflation down to single digits by early 2026.

IC Research adjusted its prediction to the first quarter of 2026 due to the slow pace of reducing inflation and previous challenges with the exchange rate.

“We also flag the renewed external policy uncertainty as a risk to exchange rate, energy, and food prices with a pass-through to inflation in 2025. However, the recent strong appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi will tame the price pressures in December 2024 into early 2025, potentially capping the upside risk”, it stressed.

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) projected a modestly higher inflation outlook but remained cautiously optimistic about achieving single-digit inflation in the long term.

In its June 2024 inflation report, titled “Canary in the Coal Mine,” IC Research adjusted its 2024 inflation estimate to a range of 19.3% to 21.3%, citing slow progress in reducing inflation and the increased likelihood of surpassing the BoG’s initial year-end target of 15.0% ± 2.0%.

While the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) did not provide an updated inflation forecast for the end of 2024, it indicated a slight increase in the one-year projected average inflation, rising to 20.1% compared to 19.0% in September 2024.

Ghana’s annual inflation rate rose for the third consecutive month to 23% in November 2024, the highest since May 2024, up from 22.1% in October.

The rise was largely driven by food prices, which jumped to 25.9% from 22.8% in the previous month, with staples like beans and yams contributing significantly to the increase.

  • Olivia Hussey of Romeo and Juliet fame dies aged 73

Olivia Hussey of Romeo and Juliet fame dies aged 73

Olivia Hussey, actress who gained worldwide fame as a teenager for her portrayal of Juliet in the renowned 1968 film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, has passed away at the age of 73.

According to a statement shared on her Instagram, the Argentine-born actress, who was raised in London, died on Friday surrounded by her family.

Hussey received a Golden Globe for Best New Actress for her iconic role as Juliet. However, years later, she filed a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures, alleging sexual abuse due to the nude scene she filmed at just 15 years old.

Another of her memorable performances was playing Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the 1977 TV miniseries Jesus of Nazareth.

“As we grieve this immense loss, we also celebrate Olivia’s enduring impact on our lives and the industry,” the statement said.

Hussey was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1951, and moved to London when she was seven, where she attended the Italia Conti Academy to study drama.

At 15, she caught the attention of Romeo and Juliet director Franco Zeffirelli while performing onstage alongside Vanessa Redgrave in the play The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.

Zeffirelli, seeking a young actress who could authentically portray Juliet in what he aimed to make the definitive movie adaptation of Shakespeare’s play, cast Hussey in the role.

She starred opposite 16-year-old British actor Leonard Whiting, who played Romeo in the film.

The movie received Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Director, though Hussey herself wasn’t nominated. That year, Barbra Streisand won Best Actress for her role in Funny Girl.

However, Hussey won the Golden Globe for Best New Star at the same awards ceremony.

Years later, both Hussey and Whiting sued Paramount Pictures, claiming that Zeffirelli—who passed away in 2019—had pressured them into filming nude scenes despite earlier promises that it wouldn’t be required.

The two sought over $500 million in damages, citing emotional distress and the film’s continued financial success since its release.

In 2022, a judge dismissed the lawsuit, ruling that the scene wasn’t “sexually explicit enough” to warrant the claims.

Hussey later reunited with Zeffirelli in 1977 to play the Virgin Mary in Jesus of Nazareth, and in 1978, she starred in Death on the Nile, an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel.

She gained recognition as a “scream queen” for her roles in the early slasher film Black Christmas (1974) and the TV movie Psycho IV: The Beginning, where she played Norman Bates’s mother in a prequel storyline.

In her later years, Hussey lent her voice to several video games as a voice actress.

Her final on-screen reunion with Leonard Whiting came in the 2015 British film Social Suicide, a modern take on Romeo and Juliet set in the age of social media.

  • I am disappointed in Keche, I won’t work with him again – King Paluta

I am disappointed in Keche, I won’t work with him again – King Paluta

Musician King Paluta has made it clear that he will no longer collaborate with the music group Keche, following their public criticism of him for not recording a promotional video for their joint track “My Father.”

In August 2024, Keche Joshua, one half of the Keche duo, took aim at King Paluta, accusing him of being disrespectful by refusing to promote their song, even though he had promoted tracks by other artists like Sista Afia, Eno Barony, Tulenkey, and Wendy Shay.

“We did a song with you and you never posted it. I reached out to your team, and they said they don’t use his official account to post things. They use the King Paluta Army page instead,” Joshua said.

He continued: “You got an artiste like Keche, and you disrespect us? You made it seem like we were disturbing you, so you just did something for us. Let nobody come and say there’s no love in the industry because these one-hit artistes are very disrespectful.”

In response to the criticism, King Paluta addressed the situation in an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso on The Delay Show, aired on December 28, 2024. He explained that he was seriously ill when Keche asked for the video.

Clearly upset, Paluta shared that he couldn’t understand why the group reacted the way they did, especially after he had already discussed the severity of his illness with Andrew, the other member of Keche.

“I’ve learnt from what happened, and I’m disappointed in them,” Paluta said. “You asked for a verse; I gave it to you for free without stressing you. You called later that you needed a video, but I was sick at the time. I had malaria, and it was that serious.”

He added: “Andrew called me when I was in Kumasi, and I answered, made him know I was sick. And indeed, I was sick. I told him if they could wait for a while for me to recover, I would record the video and send it to them. Before I could heal, they released the video, and they were all over insulting me. I was shocked.”

When asked if he had reached out to Keche after the outburst, King Paluta responded: “I have not called them, and I don’t want to. I’m done with them. For them to not appreciate me despite what I did for them, giving you a verse for free, no! Imagine I buy a phone for you upon your request; you ask for airtime the next day, and I say I don’t have the means; then you go about telling people I’m wicked? How?”

He concluded, “I can’t do anything for them again. They don’t need me. When they made monster hits, where was I?”

Keche Joshua apologises for outburst against King Paluta

In September, Joshua rendered an apology to King Paluta. In an interview on Hitz FM, Joshua expressed regret for the harsh words he used in a video he shared, attributing his actions to anger and frustration.

“I have no problem with King Paluta. He’s my brother… People have pointed out that I used some words in the video I shared. I was angry, which is why I used those words. I’m so sorry about it. I don’t want this to lead to any hate between Keche’s fans and King Paluta’s fans. I’m so sorry about the words I used. I have no bad blood with King Paluta or his management,” he said.

Keche Joshua shared that his frustration arose from King Paluta’s failure to promote their collaborative song. He pointed out that while King Paluta had actively supported other artists, such as Eno Barony, he did not show the same commitment to promoting their joint work.

“The thing is that we collaborated with him. The song belongs to both of us. He can perform the song anywhere. So if I collaborate with him, I expect him to at least put some energy into it. The energy he put into supporting other artistes and promoting Eno Barony—we wanted him to put the same energy into promoting the song he contributed to. But as he wasn’t promoting the song, it looked as if he didn’t want to do any song with us in the first place. That’s what we felt,” Joshua stated.

  • Chocolate businesses grapple with rising cost of ingredients

Chocolate businesses grapple with rising cost of ingredients

Chocolate makers are feeling the pinch as the cost of ingredients keeps going up.

Bad weather and lack of investment in cocoa farms in West Africa have caused lower harvests of cocoa beans.

Over the past year, the price of cocoa has shot up four times higher, making it tough for small businesses, especially as Christmas approaches.

Head chocolatier at Zara’s Chocolates in Bristol, Helen Jones, said: “Our profit margins are small, and people think we’re making lots of money but that isn’t the case.”

Christmas is the busiest time of the year for the company, which makes about 18,000 truffles over two weeks.

As a chocolatier, Zara’s sources chocolate in its pre-tempered form from a supplier.

Ms Jones said: “Our core ingredients have increased [in price] a lot.

“Some things by 25%, some up to 200% increases in the chocolate that we buy in.”

The business tried to absorb the cost in order not to pass the price increases onto customers, but Ms Jones said that this “became impossible”.

“Many of the problems affecting our chocolate were happening a year ago, and the effects are still being felt,” she said.

“We put a little note in the shop to explain why the prices were increasing, and thankfully people were really good about it.”

Cocoa trees, which only grow in a narrow band around the Equator, are particularly vulnerable to changes in the climate.

Severe drought conditions have hit the West Africa region this year, with temperatures above 40C breaking records in the Ivory Coast and Ghana, which are the world’s two biggest producers of cocoa beans.

In December 2023, both countries also experienced intense rains, and the wet and humid conditions allowed a fungal infection called black pod disease to flourish, rotting cocoa beans on the trees.

The combination of extreme weather patterns has meant the price of the cocoa bean crop has shot up in recent months.

Head chocolate maker at Coco Caravan in Stroud, Jacques Cöp, said the price of cacao butter had risen from 4.5$/kg to 12.5$/kg, meaning it had to stop manufacturing some lines as it could not justify the cost.

“We can absorb some of the costs by changing our product lines, but we’re just having to take it on the chin,” Mr Cöp said.

For Ms Jones, she predicts the price of the chocolate she buys will hit a plateau in January and she is hoping it will fall again after that.

  • You are not an independent woman if men are your source of income – Nigerian actor

You are not an independent woman if men are your source of income – Nigerian actor

Nigerian actor and media personality, Nedu Wazobia, who also hosts the Honest Brunch podcast, has shared his opinion about women who claim to be independent but are engaged in casual relationships and dating multiple partners to earn a living.

Nedu suggested in a recent podcast episode that their actions contradict their claims.

He argued that while these women proudly identify as independent, their reliance on multiple men for support tells a different story.

“Some women are out here dating multiple men, enjoying the benefits, and still want to claim they’re independent. This creates a blurred line between women who genuinely work hard to support their lifestyles and those who rely on men for financial or emotional assistance,” he said

Nedu noted that while these women may appreciate the companionship and assistance they receive from men, their behavior often contradicts their assertions of being independent.

“You can’t say you’re independent and still be relying on a man to support your lifestyle. True independent women are the ones working hard, paying their bills, and taking care of themselves,” he added.

Nedu further commended women who maintain their standards without compromising their values for a man’s attention or financial backing.

“I have mad respect for women who stay true to their standards, no matter the financial incentives,” he said.

  • You are in “a state of emergency” if you are not married at 33 – Kanayo O. Kanayo to Single ladies

You are in “a state of emergency” if you are not married at 33 – Kanayo O. Kanayo to Single ladies

Renowned Nigerian actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has shared his opinion on the societal pressures women face as they age, particularly when it comes to marriage.

In a discussion with News Central, Mr. Kanayo reflected on how the perception of women shifts as they move through different stages of life.

He pointed out that at 23, many women are celebrated for their youthful energy and beauty, living a carefree life filled with opportunities and possibilities.

However, as they reach their late twenties and early thirties, the pressure to settle down often begins to build.

“At 23, she’s a flex. At 28, she becomes a prayer point. After 33, she’s declared a state of emergency. Because husbands will not come at that level of 33 years. Some of them get to 35 unmarried. And they still think that they are having fun. They are not having fun. They are now in a state of emergency praying that God brings anyone,” he said.

These words reflect a harsh reality many women face. Once they reach their thirties, they may begin to feel the weight of societal expectations more intensely.

Kanayo’s statement not only highlights the changing perception of women as they age but also addresses the emotional toll that the pressure to settle down can have. For some, the quest for love becomes a more urgent, sometimes desperate, journey as they near 35 without a partner in sight.

He emphasized that many women spend their prime years chasing wealthy men who ultimately don’t marry them, only to later realize how difficult it is to find a life partner.

He explained that women in their early 20s often date wealthy, sometimes older men, while turning down younger suitors with genuine intentions.

“Some girl will be in the university at 18, 19, 20, she starts dating a very rich guy, sometimes very old too. Then what you see along the line is that because the guy is very rich and probably married, she refuses the advances of other younger people because the guy has either gotten her a car and a house. So to her, she’s operating on a very high level,” he said.

Kanayo added that these women are often hit with the reality that, as they get older, the chances of finding a suitable partner diminish.

  • I am the inspiration behind the term “Honourable Waawe” in De Thompson’s song – LilWin

I am the inspiration behind the term “Honourable Waawe” in De Thompson’s song – LilWin

Ghanaian actor and entertainer Kwadwo Nkansah, better known as LilWin, has sparked controversy over the viral song Honourable Waawe, which gained popularity after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.

LilWin insists that the concept for the song was originally his and accuses De Thompson, the artist behind the track, of stealing his idea.

In an interview, LilWin expressed his frustration, claiming that De Thompson has benefited from his intellectual property without giving him any credit.

“The concept of Honourable Waawe is mine. I wrote and composed it in spirit before De Thompson physically crafted it. It’s disappointing that my idea was taken and used without my acknowledgment,” he said.

The controversy grew when the show host challenged LilWin’s claim, questioning where his idea came from. The host pointed out that the term Honourable Waawe was first used in a movie where LilWin had a main role. However, LilWin remained firm in his response.

“That film was where I first introduced the term. It’s my creative property, and just because someone put it into a song doesn’t mean they own the idea. The entire inspiration came from me, and the musician ran with it.”

  • High Court violated our right to be heard in election ruling – NDC

High Court violated our right to be heard in election ruling – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused a High Court judge of bias and procedural violations in a contentious ruling that directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate election results in nine disputed constituencies.

The party claims the ruling undermined their rights and set a troubling precedent for electoral justice in Ghana.

The ruling in question tasked the EC with verifying and re-collating results in constituencies where discrepancies were alleged. While proponents of the decision argued that it enhanced transparency and accountability, the NDC described it as legally flawed, alleging it was issued without granting them the opportunity to defend their case.

“Our ground for this application is that the orders made by the High Court were in breach of the applicant’s rights to be heard,” stated Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the NDC’s Director of Legal Affairs, during Supreme Court proceedings on December 27, 2024. He continued, “The trial judge demonstrated apparent bias and partiality. There was a non-jurisdictional error of law by failing to exercise the court’s powers under Order 55 Rule 5 (2) of CI 47 to direct the second to sixth interested parties to serve the mandamus application on the applicant, who had an interest in the dispute.”

The NDC argued that the High Court judge failed to follow fundamental legal principles, including ensuring that all interested parties were notified and given the chance to respond. According to Tamakloe, this oversight heavily influenced the case’s outcome and amounted to a breach of natural justice.

The controversy began on December 20, 2024, when the EC proceeded with the re-collation and declaration of parliamentary results in the disputed constituencies despite opposition from the NDC. The party claimed to have obtained a court order to halt the process, but the EC continued, citing the High Court’s directive.

Seven constituencies saw the re-collation completed, with the results largely favoring candidates from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). Notably, four seats, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, and Techiman South, were re-declared in favor of the NPP after previously being announced as NDC victories. For example, the Obuasi East seat initially declared for the NDC’s Samuel Aboagye was later awarded to the NPP’s Patrick Boakye-Yiadom.

The NDC strongly objected to these developments, asserting that the electoral laws mandate that declared results can only be challenged in court, not through re-collation. They also criticized the EC for proceeding without adequately addressing concerns raised by affected candidates.

The Supreme Court intervened after the NDC filed an application challenging the High Court’s ruling. In a significant decision, the Supreme Court overturned the order for re-collation in four constituencies, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South and instructed a different High Court judge to rehear the cases. Affected MP-elects will now have the opportunity to defend their victories on January 31, 2024.

However, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s directive for the continued collation of results in Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ahafo Ano North, leaving those constituencies under the EC’s purview.

Two constituencies, Ablekuma North and Dome-Kwabenya, remain unresolved, with disputes over incomplete results. In Ablekuma North, for instance, NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn was declared the winner despite the absence of results from 62 polling stations. Similarly, in Dome-Kwabenya, NDC’s Elikplim Akurugu was announced as the victor over NPP’s Mike Oquaye Jnr, leading to further contention.

The case has reignited debates about electoral integrity, judicial impartiality, and the EC’s role in resolving disputes. With the Supreme Court’s directive for a rehearing, all eyes now turn to the judiciary as it seeks to bring finality to the contentious outcomes of the 2024 general elections.

Koku Anyidoho rejects possible appointment in Mahama’s govt

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has ruled out accepting any role in John Dramani Mahama’s incoming government.

The founder of the Atta Mills Institute stated that he doesn’t need a position to sustain himself. He emphasized that preserving the legacy of the late President John Evans Atta-Mills is enough purpose for him.

“Once again: I don’t want any appointment in John Mahama’s government. God will take care of me for as long as I keep the legacy of President Atta-Mills alive,” he wrote in an X post on December 27, 2024.

Koku Anyidoho has been at odds with key NDC leaders, including former President John Mahama and current Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, ever since losing to Nketiah in the 2018 race for the party’s General Secretary position.

While some believe his ongoing criticism of the party leadership stems from bitterness, Koku Anyidoho firmly denies this, claiming his actions are for the party’s benefit.

Addressing attacks from some NDC supporters after the party’s win in the 2024 elections, he made it clear that he doesn’t rely on the incoming government for his livelihood.

“For the record; I never served on any Board under President Mills and President Mahama. So, please don’t laugh yourself out of existence if you’re thinking I will not serve on any Board under the 2nd term of JM. God will keep me upgraded,” he wrote in another post.

Addressing these challenges through reforms is essential for improving public service delivery and enhancing governance. Here are the key challenges and the need for reforms:

    Public Sector Challenges

    Bureaucratic Inefficiencies:

    • Slow Processes: Bureaucratic red tape often leads to slow decision-making and delays in service delivery, frustrating citizens and businesses alike.

    • Lack of Accountability: There are instances of poor accountability, with public officials not being held responsible for their actions, which can result in corruption and mismanagement.

    Corruption:

    • Widespread Corruption: Corruption remains a significant challenge, undermining trust in public institutions and diverting resources meant for development.

    • Weak Enforcement Mechanisms: Existing anti-corruption measures may lack the necessary enforcement mechanisms to effectively address corrupt practices.

    Inadequate Funding and Resources:

    • Budget Constraints: The public sector often operates under tight budget constraints, limiting its ability to provide adequate services and infrastructure.

    • Resource Misallocation: Inefficient allocation of resources can lead to disparities in service delivery across different regions and sectors.

Skills Gap and Human Resource Challenges:

    • Inadequate Training: Many public sector employees lack the necessary skills and training, impacting their ability to perform effectively.

    • High Turnover Rates: The public sector may experience high turnover rates, resulting in a loss of institutional knowledge and expertise.

    Poor Public Service Delivery:

    • Citizen Dissatisfaction: Many citizens express dissatisfaction with the quality of public services, including healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

    • Limited Access: Access to essential services can be uneven, particularly in rural areas, leading to inequalities in service availability.

    Political Interference:

    • Partisan Politics: Political interference in the public sector can disrupt the recruitment and promotion processes, leading to inefficiencies and favouritism.

    Need for Reforms

    Enhancing Accountability and Transparency:

    • Strengthening Oversight Mechanisms: Improving oversight bodies and implementing transparent processes can enhance accountability and reduce corruption.

    • Public Reporting: Mandating regular public reporting on performance and finances can help hold public officials accountable to citizens.

    Anti-Corruption Measures:

    • Strengthening Legal Frameworks: Implementing and enforcing stricter anti-corruption laws can deter corrupt practices and promote integrity in the public sector.

    • Whistleblower Protection: Establishing protections for whistleblowers can encourage the reporting of corruption and misconduct.

    Resource Allocation and Management:

    • Efficient Budgeting: Adopting more efficient budgeting processes can ensure that resources are allocated where they are needed most.

    • Performance-Based Funding: Linking funding to performance outcomes can incentivize better service delivery.

    Capacity Building and Training:

    • Investing in Human Resources: Providing ongoing training and professional development opportunities for public sector employees can enhance their skills and effectiveness.

    • Recruitment Reforms: Implementing merit-based recruitment processes can help attract and retain qualified personnel.

    Improving Service Delivery:

    • Citizen Engagement: Involving citizens in the planning and evaluation of public services can enhance responsiveness and accountability.

    • Leveraging Technology: Utilizing technology to streamline processes and service delivery can improve efficiency and accessibility.

    Reducing Political Interference:

    • Institutional Independence: Strengthening the independence of public institutions can reduce political interference and promote professionalism.

    Conclusion

  • Nigeria rejects Niger’s claims of plotting with France to cause chaos

Nigeria rejects Niger’s claims of plotting with France to cause chaos

Nigeria has rejected accusations from Niger’s military leader, Brigadier General Abdourahmane Tchiani, claiming the country collaborated with France to destabilize Niger’s junta-led government.

In an interview on Christmas Day, General Tchiani alleged that France, with Nigeria’s knowledge, was working with militant groups in the Lake Chad region to weaken Niger’s security.

“Nigerian authorities are not unaware of this underhanded move,” General Tchiani was quoted as saying by AFP.

In response, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, told BBC Hausa that the accusations were “baseless” and “false.”

Ribadu stated that Nigeria would never “sabotage Niger or allow any disaster to befall it.”

Nigeria’s Information Minister, Mohammed Idris, dismissed the allegations as groundless and labeled them a “diversionary tactic aimed at covering his administration’s failures.”

“These claims exist solely in the realm of imagination. Nigeria has never engaged in any alliance, overt or covert, with France — or any other country — to destabilize Niger Republic,” Idris said.

Idris also denied the accusations of sabotaging Niger’s pipeline and agriculture.

Tchiani’s allegations have worsened the already tense diplomatic relations with Nigeria, which have been strained since the 2023 military coup that removed former president Mohamed Bazoum.

West Africa’s regional bloc, Ecowas, led by Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, imposed economic sanctions on Niger and threatened military action if constitutional order wasn’t restored.

Ecowas came to Nigeria’s defense on Thursday, issuing a statement rejecting the claims.

“For years, Nigeria has supported peace and security in several countries not only in the West African subregion but also on the African continent,” the regional body said in a statement on Thursday.

“Ecowas therefore refutes any suggestion that such a generous and magnanimous country would become a state sponsor of terrorism,” it read.

Two weeks ago, Ecowas approved the withdrawal of three military-led countries, including Niger, after they refused to restore democratic rule.

Since the coup, Niger has called on France and other Western powers to pull out their military bases and has formed a security alliance with junta-led neighbors Mali and Burkina Faso.

Kelvyn Boy, who was once signed to Stonebwoy’s Burniton Music Group (BMG), parted ways with the label in 2019. The split was not smooth and even led to the removal of Stonebwoy’s then-manager, Blakk Cedi, from the label.

Cause of Mr Beautiful and Agya Koo’s beef goes beyond politics –  Wayoosi reveals

Well-known Kumawood actor Wayoosi has spoken out about the ongoing conflict between his fellow actors, Mr. Beautiful and Agya Koo.

The two were at odds during the campaign period leading up to the 2024 December 7 general elections, with many fans and netizens speculating that their clash was rooted in their differing political affiliations.

However, in a recent interview on Kumasi-based RTV Ghana, Wayoosi set the record straight, stating that, contrary to popular belief, the dispute between the two is not politically motivated.

“The feud between the two of them is not just about politics; it is also about disrespect. I can’t say who disrespected who, but it is about disrespect,” Wayoosi stated.

He shared that the conflict began on a movie set when the producers appeared to favor one actor, causing the other to feel disrespected.

“It started when some producers on the set began treating one person better than the other. The other person felt disrespected. That’s where the feud began. It’s not about politics,” he reiterated.

    What happened?

Mr. Beautiful, a strong supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had been taking jabs at Agya Koo, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) backer, accusing him of spreading falsehoods about NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.

In reply, Agya Koo accused Mr. Beautiful of trying to gain attention to revive his declining career.

There’s no justification for betraying someone you claim to love – Jarvis tells fiancée

What started as a regular talk show chat took an unexpected turn when Nigerian content creator Peller and his fiancée, Jarvis, had a heated debate about cheating on Honest Brunch.

The couple, recently engaged and still enjoying the spotlight from Peller’s big proposal in front of a UK audience, found themselves tackling one of the toughest topics in relationships—infidelity.

Things escalated when Peller’s casual comments stirred up controversy. Speaking with a laid-back attitude, he said,

“Let’s not deceive ourselves; it’s almost expected that men will cheat. It’s not right, but society seems to normalize it.”

Peller’s statement, delivered as if it were an undeniable fact, clearly unsettled Jarvis. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat before interrupting him.

“Expected by who?” she interjected sharply, fixing her gaze on him. “How can you sit here, beside me, and speak about cheating as if it’s inevitable? Any man who cheats is a dog—plain and simple. There’s no justification for betraying someone you claim to love.”

Peller, clearly caught off guard, scrambled to explain. “I’m not endorsing cheating,” he said quickly, his voice softening.

“I’m just pointing out how society often turns a blind eye when men do it. But for women, the backlash is unbearable—it’s a double standard.”

Ghanaian musician Edwin Eshun, known as Beeztrap KOTM, has shared his thoughts on the ongoing online debate about Nigerians allegedly taking over the concept of “Detty December,” a festive celebration associated with Ghanaians.

Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Joseph Henry Mensah during the 2024 Rapperholic concert, Beeztrap KOTM dismissed the claims, saying that “Detty December” remains uniquely Ghanaian and no other country can claim it.

“I am just working, but this December, I have not really been in Accra. I have been to Dormaa and its environs, but Detty December is for Ghana, and no one can take it away from us,” he emphasized.

  • GIS launches $94.6m ‘Immigration 360’ to modernize border management

GIS launches $94.6m ‘Immigration 360’ to modernize border management

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has announced the rollout of a new system called “Immigration 360,” designed to fully automate how passengers are processed and data is managed at the country’s 48 approved entry and exit points. This system will also cover other operational commands.

The project, which costs $94.6 million, aims to address challenges like sovereignty, interoperability, and other limitations tied to the current setup in use at 12 approved borders.

As part of the first phase, the GIS is installing advanced border management systems at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra. These include an e-Gate feature, costing $5.5 million, which is expected to simplify and speed up passenger processing. The e-Gate system itself, consisting of 15 units and accessories, is valued at $1.7 million.

Deputy Commissioner of Immigration for Special Duties/Public Affairs, Maud Anima Quianoo, addressed claims circulating on social media that the e-Gates at KIA cost $240 million. She clarified that this figure refers to the total life-cycle cost of the entire project, while the initial implementation cost is $94.6 million.

“The $240 million includes two periodic wholesale upgrades of the critical components of the system and the cost of maintenance and licenses over the 10-year cycle of the project. The first upgrade type is in three replacement cycles of key components of the system.

The second upgrade type is two (2) 5-year upgrade cycles within ten (10) years to replace major components of the technical infrastructure. This is to ensure a refresh of the system at all times and to ensure the hand back of a brand-new system at the end of the ten-year period,” the GIS press statement said.

It added that after accounting for Value Added Tax (VAT) and other taxes, the total came to $274 million, which includes maintenance and hands-on support services over a 10-year period to guarantee the system is operational around the clock.

“It is worth noting that Immigration 360 provides the benefits of integrating seamlessly with local databases, which include Ghana’s National Identification System (NIS), Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), National Stop/Watch List, and international systems.

The new system will work with tools like Interpol, the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD), Advanced Passenger Information (API), Passenger Name Record (PNR), and PISCES. These tools help make travel, trade, and security smoother.

The GIS also mentioned that the system, developed by Margins ID Systems Application Ltd, a Ghanaian company, can link up with the visas and permits issued by the GIS to improve border control processes nationwide.

“It is important to note that Margins ID Systems Application Ltd (MIDSA) is pre-financing the implementation cost of $94,664,374.57 and will be repaid from revenue that will accrue from the use of the system.”
