The Imams lauded Dr. Bawumia for his commitment to embracing diversity and encouraged him to persist in his frequent interactions with the Christian community to foster unity.
They expressed their disapproval of the recent assaults on Dr. Bawumia by Sam George, an NDC MP, regarding the Vice President’s religious affiliation. The Imams refuted these accusations, asserting that Dr. Bawumia has not committed any religious offense by engaging with Christians to encourage mutual cooperation.

A week-long initiative provided psychological support to a total of 330 alleged witches residing in four camps across the Northern and North East Regions, aiming to bolster their mental health and overall well-being.
Organized by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in partnership with Total Life Enhancement Centre (TOLEC-GH), a psychology-oriented organization, the program received funding from the French Embassy in Ghana. Beneficiaries hailed from the Gambaga alleged witches’ camp in the North East Region, as well as the Kukuo, Gnani, and Kpatinga alleged witches’ camps in the Northern Region.
Adam Nantomah Baani, the North East Regional Director of CHRAJ, expressed during a culminating ceremony at Gambaga that the engagement was specifically designed to support the rehabilitation and stabilization of the inmates who had suffered psychological trauma.
The initiative arose from a CHRAJ study, supported by Crossroad International, that revealed the inmates were dealing with constraints related to food, nutritional imbalances, and psychological distress due to past violence and mistreatment.
To address these challenges, CHRAJ conducted a screening and sensitization program to aid the mental health of the inmates, aimed at improving their overall well-being.
Peter Amadu Mintir, a Clinical Psychologist and Executive Director of TOLEC-GH, emphasized the significance of psychological interventions for the inmates, emphasizing their overall health and wellness. A report based on the engagement will be presented to CHRAJ to guide further support measures for the inmates.
Additionally, the initiative involved sensitizing about 70 Senior High and 70 Junior High students, along with local opinion leaders in the areas housing the camps.
Gertrude Quashigah, the late National Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the age of 63.
Recognized not only for her prominent role as the coordinator of the National School Feeding Program but also for her significant contributions to Ghana’s food sector, Gertrude Quashigah also served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Ambar Quality Foods Limited.
Throughout her tenure as the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, she played a crucial part in ensuring that children across the country had access to nourishing meals. The program’s objective was to enhance school enrolment, attendance, and retention while promoting the overall health and well-being of students.
However, beyond her instrumental role, a few notable instances during her time made headlines, primarily involving clashes with the then Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, among others.
Gertrude Quashigah’s role as National Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme was revoked by the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection on Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
Under the directive of the then minister, Sarah Adowa Safo, Quashigah was instructed to surrender documents and government assets within her charge to the Chief Director of the ministry.
While the letter did not specify the precise grounds for her dismissal, the gender ministry lodged several accusations against the late Gertrude Quashigah.
“There are a lot of issues bedeviling the programme under her watch including non payment of caterers, poor working relationship with directors of the programme and her deputy, taking unilateral decisions without consulting the minister,” the letter stated in part.
Just 72 hours following the minister’s initial termination of Madam Gertrude Quashigah’s appointment, a reversal was made on the decision.
The minister issued a statement rescinding the decision and instructed the late Gertrude Quashigah to recommence her responsibilities as the National Coordinator of the School Feeding Project.
“I write in respect of the above subject matter. This is to inform you of my decision to withdraw my earlier letter dated 18th May 2021. I wish to state that my earlier letter was as a result of administrative error,” the statement read.
Sara Adwoa Safo expressed concerns regarding the purported lack of cooperation from Gertrude Quashigah during an ongoing audit of payments to caterers within the school feeding program.
As a result, the gender minister promptly directed Gertrude Quashigah to promptly provide the auditors with all pertinent documents and to actively collaborate with the audit process.
On October 17, 2021, Gertrude Quashigah revealed a notable disparity in her relationship with Sarah Adwoa Safo, the then Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, unlike her connections with former ministers Otiko Djaba and Cynthia Morrison, which she described as cordial and respectful.
Quashigah mentioned that, despite her appointment by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, she had not yet engaged with Adwoa Safo, despite her attempts to establish a dialogue with the ministry under which her directorate functioned.
She recounted an instance where she spent over six hours at the ministry without meeting Adwoa Safo, indicating the lack of interaction between them.
Moreover, Quashigah had testified before the Dzamefe Commission in 2014, post the World Cup in Brazil. Her company had been contracted to provide meals for approximately 300 football fans who traveled to Brazil to support the national team, the Black Stars, during the tournament.
During her testimony, she highlighted inflated prices for the food items she procured. Quashigah emphasized the exorbitant figures quoted for the food items, particularly referring to an occasion where items were allegedly valued at $37,720.
She also disclosed that the $91,800 allocated as pocket money for 612 supporters sent to cheer the Black Stars in the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup was deducted from the caterers’ budget, but the supporters never received it, nor were they informed about this deduction.
Vice President of IMANI Africa, Bright Simons, has asserted that certain politicians have unlawfully seized land belonging to the Labadi Beach Hotel, a property owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
He highlighted that individuals connected to the political sphere have encroached upon the hotel’s land, resulting in a depletion of the beachfront area, leaving only two acres of land remaining.
In a sequence of posts posted on X on Friday, November 10, 2023, the IMANI vice president further specified that one of these encroachments is associated with a prominent figure in the NPP.
“Labadi Beach Hotel, built in 1991 by Ghana’s biggest gold mine, is Gh’s most prestigious 5-star beach resort. Since SSNIT, the state pension fund & 100% owner, took over mgmt, political insiders have hijacked the beachfront leaving the hotel with just 2 acres. SSNIT is helpless.
“One of the beachfront encroachments is connected with a ruling party boss,” Bright Simons wrote.
Additionally, he disclosed that the information available to him suggests that a temporary structure established for the Year of Return initiative in 2019 has been converted into a permanent facility.
“Labadi Beach Hotel staff say the facility was meant to be a temporary event location for Year of Return. Now, it permanently blocks hotel residents’ view & bellows loud, disturbing, music every weekend,” he added.

The Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in the Eastern Region is currently investigating a tragic accident that claimed the lives of eight individuals on the Akroso to Asamankese road over the past weekend.
The fatal incident occurred on Sunday, November 12, involving a white Toyota Hiace registered as GM 3150-13 and a Pontiac Vibe with registration number GG 3528-14.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the Pontiac Vibe, traveling from Asamankese towards Achiase, lost control of the vehicle after experiencing a tire blowout along a section of the road between Asamankese and Akroso.
This loss of control led to a head-on collision with the Toyota Hiace, which was carrying 15 passengers at the time of the tragic accident.
Following the incident, police officers and rescue teams promptly responded, aided by local residents, to transport the injured individuals to the Asamankese government hospital for medical attention. Simultaneously, they conveyed the deceased bodies to the hospital morgue for further examination through autopsies.
Ongoing efforts persist to notify and bring family members of the deceased to the hospital to facilitate the identification of their lost loved ones.
Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, has advocated for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Ghana Premier League clubs to take the initiative in constructing and managing their own stadiums.
Twumasi emphasized that owning dedicated stadiums would alleviate the heavy reliance on state-owned facilities, currently accommodating a wide array of sporting events.
In a proactive suggestion, Twumasi proposed the utilization of Ghana’s funds from the 2022 FIFA World Cup to establish a football-centric stadium, exclusively for the sport’s activities.
These recommendations follow the recent ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) deeming the Cape Coast Stadium unsuitable for hosting Medeama Sporting Club’s Champions League matches.
The repercussions extend beyond Medeama’s inability to utilize the stadium, as the venue has been barred from hosting any international games due to its failure to meet the necessary requirements.
“I think it’s high time the GFA built their own stadium,” Prof Twumasi told Graphic Sports.
“For example, the World Cup money that we get should be used for some of these things — building a stadium.
“We can use the World Cup money to design a stadium purposely for football matters and the federation (GFA) will handle that.”
On the clubs, he added, “Not only the GFA, but all the clubs playing in the Premiership must own stadiums or venues good enough to host a match.
“If I have my way, every club that plays in the Premier League must demonstrate that they have their own stadium. If they don’t have the money they can team up with the banks for loans to be deducted from their gate proceeds for a number of years.”
Following the rejection of the Cape Coast Stadium, Medeama will relocate their CAF Champions League matches to the Baba Yara Stadium.
Victims affected by the flooding caused by the Akosombo dam spillage are now returning to their residences, as the floodwaters have receded and several communities have undergone fumigation in the weeks following the incident.
National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) had previously indicated that the Volta River was displaying signs of receding and maintaining its regular course. Consequently, stagnant floodwaters in certain areas are subsiding.
During an interview on the AM Show on JoyNews, the Deputy Director General of Technical and Reforms at NADMO, Seji Saji Amedonu, highlighted the varying degrees of destruction experienced across different communities due to the spillage.
Damage caused by Akosombo Dam spillage
Additionally, NADMO is actively engaged in pumping out the remaining floodwater from these affected areas.
“We have some structures that were completely covered, some structures that the water was at the base level and some structures that the water was at the window level, some also less than the window or about two feet. Those ones have the residents moving back immediately the water depleted.
“When the water receded, some places were completely dried out and those one are the areas that some fumigation were done but there is still pools of water in the Mepe township. We are working very hard now and for four or five days we have been pumping the water into a channel that will lead it back into the river. So for returning to their homes, quite a lot of people have returned to their homes,” he emphasized.
In recent developments, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed the resumption of teaching and learning activities in 81 out of the 108 schools affected by the Akosombo spillage across nine districts.
According to GES Director-General, Dr Eric Nkansah, “we are also making good progress working with key stakeholders to restore teaching and learning in the remaining 27 schools within the North Tongu District, which, for the most part, are used as camps and Safe Havens by displaced households”.
“Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that all schools affected by the floods resume teaching and learning activities within the shortest possible time,” he said.
The Volta River Authority (VRA) initiated the spilling of excess water from the Akosombo and Kpong Hydro Dams on September 15 due to escalating water levels. The spillage was brought to a halt on October 30, 2023.
In the aftermath of the prolonged spillage, numerous inhabitants residing along the Lower Volta Basin witnessed the loss of their residences and agricultural lands to the ensuing floods.
Akosombo dam spillage aftermath
The spillage affected a total of nine districts, with particularly devastating impacts felt in the South, Central, and North Tongu districts within the Volta Region.
Once vibrant communities such as Battor, Tefle, Mepe, Sogakope, Adidome, and Anlo found themselves submerged.
According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NaDMO), over 26,000 individuals were displaced and left homeless as a consequence of this calamity.
In response, various organizations and individuals have extended support by providing essential relief items to assist the affected residents.
The Oyoko Traditional Stool, an emblem of heritage, has vanished from the throne room of the Seikwa Traditional Council in the Tain District of the Bono Region.
This incident occurred after the stool had been secured away for six years following the passing of the late Seikwamanhene, Nana Kwaku Dwumah Ankoana II.
During the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the late Nana Kwaku Dwumah Ankoana II, the Oyoko Royal Family made a troubling discovery—two of their revered traditional stools were missing from the hallowed throne room.
Adehyepanin Kwadwo Asubonteng, representing the Oyoko Royal Family, expressed reluctance to secure the throne room.
However, pressure from certain elders of the traditional council and the Tain District Security Committee (DiSEC) led to the forceful decision to lock the room, a move now connected to the mysterious disappearance of the cherished stools.
“I told them (the DiSEC) not to lock the room due to some traditional rites we’ll perform, but they insisted and locked it, I got the information a few weeks ago which says two of the traditional stools belonging to the Oyoko Royal Family are missing, I was shocked to hear that but I did nothing until the traditional leaders sent messengers, including the traditional priest officially to inform me about the missing stools” the Adehyepanin narrated.
Per information validated by Abusuapanin Kwadwo Asubonteng, a visit to the throne room confirmed the unsettling truth: the crucial and revered stools were indeed missing, prompting an urgent need for their recovery.
In the pursuit of locating these significant artifacts, the Adehyepanin and his group took proactive measures, directing their efforts to the Seikwa River deity. Here, they conducted a libation ceremony in hopes of uncovering the individuals responsible for the disappearance.
Moreover, during this investigation, they made an additional disconcerting discovery – the resting place of the late Nana Kwaku Dwumah Ankoana had been interfered with, further complicating the situation.
“Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the late Nana Kwaku Dwumah with these unmemorable acts has caused the Oyoko Royal family in a state of much bitter grief,” Nana Kwadwo Asubonteng said.
The matter has been officially reported to the Tain District Police, who have commenced investigations into the incident.
Madina Member of Parliament, Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, can be regarded as a late bloomer when one reflects on his journey to acquiring formal education.
Born on Sunday, December 2, 1979, Francis-Xavier officially stepped into an educational institution to acquire knowledge at the age of 8. Affirmatively, it was not until 1989 that Francis got enrolled in nursery.
According to the Madina MP, going to school earlier was not something his family could afford at the time, especially when putting food on the table was a challenge.
Mr Sosu, in an interview on The Independent Ghana’s Personality Profile show, noted that during his childhood days, his family of eight was subjected to poverty and had to take up several roles, together with his five siblings and mother, to provide the family.
This was after his father lost his job as a result of the Ghana-Must-Go exodus, which saw the expulsion of West African migrants, particularly Ghanaians, from Nigeria in 1983.
“Even when my parents had to survive in Accra-Newtown here in 1981, my dad also lost his job because he was part of those who were repatriated from Nigeria. He became a very desperate drunk
“My mother had to shoulder the duties of taking care of all six of us; it was just unbearable, especially when she had no training. She resorted to petty trading.
“My mum used to sell everything; that’s how come we became sellers. She would sell fresh fish during the season. Sometimes we sell them as fried fish with Kenkey. When plantain is in season then we are roasting plantain. When corn is in season, we are roasting corn, or boiling it,” he recounted.
It was only after his family had gathered enough funds that it became possible for him to be enrolled in a school.
After his enrollment, Francis now had to deal with being called unpleasant names at the hands of his ‘bullies’.
“So many people used to call me ‘Nursery father’. They will be laughing at you,” he recounted.
Amidst the heckling, he was inspired by the excitement of being in school and had to make the decision whether to be pushed by the heckling and name-calling or endure and remain in school.
“I chose the path of enduring it,” Mr Sosu, who is now a human rights lawyer, indicated.
Francis continued to pursue higher education despite what life threw at him. Below are the academic qualifications of Lawyer Sosu.
Member of Parliament for Constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu’s family was among the victims of the Ghana-Must-Go exodus, which saw the expulsion of West African migrants, particularly Ghanaians, from Nigeria in 1983.
The Nigerian government at the time, under the leadership of President Shehu Shagari, enacted a policy that demanded illegal immigrants leave the country. The order particularly targeted Ghanaians and other West African migrants, who were perceived as taking jobs and resources away from Nigerian citizens.
As a result, hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians and other West African nationals were forcibly repatriated to their home countries.
This mass expulsion significantly affected both the economies and social structures of both Nigeria and the countries to which the individuals were deported.
For the Sosu’s, this meant the breadwinner no longer had a source of income after Francis’ father lost his job.
What was already a difficult life for Francis, his five siblings, and his mother went downhill.
In an interview on the Independent Ghana’s Personality Profile show, Mr Sosu noted that after his dad lost “his job because he was part of those who were repatriated from Nigeria,” it took a huge toll on him and ended up making him “a very desperate drunk.”
His mother had to step into the shoes of the breadwinner, he said, trying her hands on all sorts of trade to ensure she provided food for the family.
“My mother having to shoulder the duties of taking care of all six of us, it was just unbearable, especially when she had no training. She resorted to petty trading.
“My mum used to sell everything that’s how come we became sellers. She would sell fresh fish during the season. Sometimes we sell them as fried fish with Kenkey. When plantain is in season then we are roasting plantain. When corn is in season, we are roasting corn, or boiling,” he narrated.
For Francis, he had to do more selling food stuff. According to him, “pushing trucks was the order of the day,” and at night, he resorted to selling kerosene.
“Because of all these things, I didn’t get the opportunity to start school early,” he painfully added.
Nonetheless, he did not let the difficult times drown out his ambition and quest to obtain a formal education. So, at the age of 8, he got enrolled in nursey.
He recalled instances where he was bullied due to his age.
“So many people used to call me ‘Nursery father’. They will be laughing at you.”
Amidst the heckling, he was inspired by the excitement of being in school and had to make the decision whether to be pushed by the heckling and name-calling or endure and remain in school
“I chose the path of enduring it,” Mr Sosu, who is now a human rights lawyer, indicated.
He continued to pursue higher education despite what life threw at him. Below are the academic qualifications of Lawyer Sosu.
As the festive season approaches, the Ghana Association of Forex Bureaux foresees a slight weakening of the cedi against the US dollar.
While the local currency remained relatively stable for most of the year, recent times have seen some pressure on the cedi.
Despite Fitch Solutions’ projection of the cedi ending 2023 at GHS11.40 to a dollar, the Ghana Association of Forex Bureau anticipates increased demand for the dollar, along with higher imports, which could lead to a devaluation of the local currency against the dollar.
“Yes, you must know that during the festive season, there will be a lot of demand for foreign currency especially the US dollar because most of our imports are dollar-denominated. And so you would expect that the dollar and for the matter the rate of the dollar compared to the cedi will depreciate,” Vice President of the association, Dr. Alex Akpabli, said.
“The depreciation would be small I can tell you”, he added.
“We just need to find ways to deal with the high importation of goods in the country. The Ghana cedi is doing well and we can do better if we work around all indicators”, he mentioned.
Fitch Solutions projects a potential 1.0% strengthening of the cedi against the US dollar in 2024, positioning it among the top-performing currencies in Africa during that period.
The UK-based firm anticipates progress from the government in restructuring Ghana’s external debt under the G20 Common Framework by the second quarter of 2024. This step, according to their analysis, is expected to enhance investor confidence in Ghanaian assets, attract capital inflows, and offer bolstering support to the cedi.

Raphael Dwamena, a former Black Stars striker, tragically succumbed to a longstanding heart condition that had been a barrier to reaching the pinnacle of his career.
The 28-year-old striker collapsed on the field, experiencing his second cardiac arrest during a league match in Albania on November 11, 2023, leading to the abandonment of the game and his subsequent passing.
Dwamena’s heart issues had been a known concern, particularly after his failed move to the Premier League, stemming from his medical complications.
His untimely death has sparked discussions regarding his choice to continue playing despite his medical condition, revealing a poignant conflict between his passion for the game and the risks his health posed.
The striker initially learned of his heart problems following a failed medical with Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018. His impressive performance for FC Zurich nearly secured him a significant Premier League deal, but the move collapsed.
Despite the setback, he secured a transfer to La Liga’s Levante and later was loaned to Real Zaragoza in 2019. However, a medical examination in October that year revealed recurring heart issues, leading Zaragoza to terminate his contract and doctors advising him to step away from the sport.
Dwamena, determined to pursue his passion, opted for an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) in January 2020 to support his continued involvement in football.
Returning to the sport in August 2020 with Vejle Boldklub in Denmark, Dwamena expressed his resilience, stating that he was unafraid to play despite his condition, trusting in divine protection for his heart.
“Obviously, it was not a good feeling to have to leave football, it was a hard blow to stop playing at that time. But I knew that I would play again because God is always faithful and is always with me,” he told El Periodico De Aragon.
“Taking the news was not a problem. And the media will publish everything they hear, that’s not something new, it always happens.
“At all times. I always feel like nothing is wrong with me. I believe that God is the one who takes care of my heart. I may have symptoms of heart problems or other things, but I am never afraid. God is with me.
On doctors proposing retirement to him, he said: “Each doctor has his own opinions and I respected them, I looked for different evaluations. I respect their roles and jobs, but my wish was to get back to playing and do everything possible to achieve it.”
The Albanian FA yesterday confirmed the passing of Ghanaian forward Raphael Dwamena.
The 28-year old lost consciousness during a game and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
After a subsequent diagnosis of his heart problem, his contract was terminated two months later. This third diagnosis sidelined him for nearly a year before he made a move to Austrian side BW Linz in June 2021.
During BW Linz’s OFB Cup game against TSV Hartberg in November of the same year, Dwamena experienced a cardiac arrest. It occurred in the 20th minute of the OFB Cup round of 16 against Hartberg, causing him to collapse on the sidelines. Fortunately, the team’s medical staff acted swiftly, providing aid before rushing him to the hospital.
Following his recovery, in an interview, he described experiencing “an electric shock from the defibrillator.”
“I received an electric shock from the defibrillator. It hurts and knocks you off your feet. But I didn’t collapse,” the forward said as quoted by Ghanasoccernet.
“I want to have another check done in the next few days or weeks. If everything is okay, I’ll be back on the pitch and play. I’ve always played without any problems,” he added.
Despite contemplating retirement and taking a hiatus from football, his passion for the game drew him back. In December 2022, he made a comeback, joining Egnatia in Albania.
In what ultimately marked his final professional season, he exited the sport with a remarkable scoring feat. Throughout the ongoing 2023/2024 season, he showcased exceptional performance, scoring an impressive 12 goals in 12 games and contributing with one assist. He notably emerged as the top scorer for the club.
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), in collaboration with medicine regulatory agencies and non-governmental organizations, has launched the “#MedSafetyWeek” campaign, scheduled from November 6th to 12th, 2023.
According to a statement received by the Ghana News Agency, the campaign focuses on medicine safety monitoring, aiming to gather information about both known and new side effects.
Under the theme “Who can report,” the campaign aims to underscore the importance of reporting side effects of medicines. It emphasizes the vital role played by patients, caregivers, doctors, nurses, and pharmacists in reporting these side effects to ensure medicine safety.
The continuous collection and monitoring of these reports will aid the FDA in identifying potential risks associated with medicines. This information will enable the FDA to take necessary regulatory actions to enhance medicine safety.
“The FDA emphasises the importance of reporting side effects by using reporting forms available in healthcare facilities and community pharmacies designated as patient safety centres or by using the Med Safety App”, the statement said.
The Med Safety Application stands as a user-friendly electronic reporting tool, offering convenient accessibility.
This application is readily accessible on both the App Store and Google Play Store.
Individuals are also urged to submit reports to any of the FDA’s regional offices across the country. The reports are meticulously assessed to take the necessary measures in safeguarding public health and safety.
Over time, the FDA has effectively processed numerous reports, significantly aided by patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

Acting Bono Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Madam Abigail Atinpoka, has reported a slight reduction in road crashes in the Bono Region.
She mentioned that from January to September 2022, there were 103 crashes leading to 59 deaths and 139 injuries, which decreased to 102 crashes, 29 deaths, and 99 injuries in the same period in 2023.
She credited this reduction to the intensified road safety education campaigns carried out by the Authority in the region. These campaigns included road safety education outreach programs at bus terminals, lorry stations, and major marketplaces to raise awareness among commercial drivers, station officers, and passengers about safety and regulations.
Madam Atinpoka commended the support received from various road agencies and transport unions, including the police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD). She emphasized that road safety is a collective responsibility and called on everyone to contribute to a society with fewer road crashes.
She expressed optimism that with continued public education, commercial drivers would adhere to road safety rules, reduce speeding, and maintain their vehicles properly.
She also advised passengers to actively monitor drivers for speeding, wrongful overtaking, and overloading, as driver negligence and errors are significant factors contributing to preventable crashes on the highways.
Carlo Ancelotti praised Real Madrid’s stellar 5-1 victory against Valencia as their top performance of the season. He also announced that Jude Bellingham will not participate in England’s duties.
Real Madrid’s early goal by Dani Carvajal was followed by impressive braces from both Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, securing a commanding win.
This triumph brought them within two points of the unexpected league leaders, Girona.Despite a late consolation goal from Hugo Duro, Ancelotti was thrilled with his team’s overall performance, making it an enjoyable night for the Real Madrid camp.
The Italian said: “Was it our best performance? Yes.
“Valencia haven’t shown their best because we played a very good game, the first 15 minutes we could have defended better but from there the game was perfect.
“Vinicius and Rodrygo both did very well, as part of the wider team who all played very well.
“I don’t like to assess on an individual level but as a team they did a splendid job.”
Ancelotti must have been particularly delighted with the lopsided win, considering the absence of their star player, Bellingham, who suffered a dislocated shoulder last week.
Despite the injury, the 20-year-old is slated to join Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions next week. Nonetheless, his club manager anticipates a swift return to Spain for him.
The 64-year-old tactician said: “Bellingham will go, yes, to be evaluated and he’ll come back after that, because he hasn’t played today.
“He is doing specific work to strengthen his shoulder over the next few weeks but he will be back to playing after that.”
Since his arrival at Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in June for an initial £88.5 million, Bellingham has had a remarkable beginning in Spain.
His 13 goals in 14 appearances across LaLiga and the Champions League have broken numerous records. Additionally, he contributed two assists for his country against Italy last month.
Despite being a favorite at the Bernabeu, he appears likely to join Tottenham midfielder James Maddison and Newcastle striker Callum Wilson on the injury list, missing England’s upcoming matches against Malta and North Macedonia.
In the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region, an appalling incident has occurred where an 80-year-old shea butter seller was sexually assaulted in a bush by a notorious individual.
As reported by Yaw Boagyan of Kasapa News, the victim, whose identity is being protected, was traveling from Etsii Sonkwa to Ofabil to collect payments from individuals who owed her for purchasing her shea butter. On her journey, she encountered the criminal, Kobina Nyame, who brandished a knife and threatened her with violence if she didn’t comply with his demand for sexual intercourse.
Tragically, the assailant forcibly dragged the elderly woman into a nearby bush and carried out the heinous act. Following the assault, he issued a dire warning, instructing her to remain silent, under threat of severe consequences if she spoke of the assault.
Struggling to return home, the victim was aided by a motorcyclist whom she confided in about the incident. This individual later informed the local Assembly member.
The case was then brought to the attention of the Chiefs and elders of Etsii Sonkwa. Incensed by the despicable nature of the crime, community members apprehended the perpetrator, and after his confession, the police were alerted.
The suspect is presently in the custody of the Ajumako District Police Command, assisting with investigations. The victim is under medical care at the Ajumako District Government Hospital.
President of the policy think-tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has urged the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on resolving the nation’s economic issues rather than relying on regional sentiments.
Mr Cudjoe emphasized that emphasizing Dr. Bawumia’s Northern heritage might not benefit the party’s 2024 election prospects. He highlighted the presence of two Northerners in the race, noting that it would be the responsibility of the people to discern and select the candidate who prioritizes their needs and development.
“If the NPP relies on that and thinks that will become an electoral advantage, and forget about the larger issues of the economy or governance, they will be in for a shocker. I think it is important that we don’t necessarily dwell on sectarian politics.
“I admit that these things play a role, even in global politics…but I think it is important that we move away from this kind of thing because already it is driving a certain trend that I’m not in favour of,” he was quoted by citinewsroom.com.
The Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, highlighted that the backing for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia isn’t merely due to his Northern heritage.
He emphasized that the Vice President is not the initial Northerner to stand for election within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), dismissing any tribal inclinations.
“When you see all of us rallying behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, it is not because he’s a Northerner because he is not the first, not the second, not the third Northerner to have ever wanted to be the flagbearer of the party,” he said.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has partnered with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on an African Parliamentary High-Level Conference to strengthen health security preparedness.
This conference aims to provide a forum for Parliamentarians from national parliaments in Africa to exchange ideas, build political support, strengthen capacities, and foster coordination in driving sustainable action for global health security. Additionally, the meeting will enhance the role of Parliamentarians in strengthening health security and building health system resilience for the future of their countries.
In his opening remarks, the Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu said that health emergencies significantly impact human health, livelihoods, national economies, and development. However, the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the weak global preparedness towards public health threats and the inequity in the global economy in terms of pandemic commodities including vaccines and simple PPEs.
According to him, it is the responsibility of countries to ensure core public health capacities are in place to prevent, detect and respond to outbreaks and health emergencies and to set the foundation for a resilient health system to enable the attainment of Universal Health Coverage.
He mentioned that Parliamentarians have a role in promoting health and health equity and they must strive to bridge inequities in access to health care within the populations they serve.
He urged Parliamentarians to continually strengthen mechanisms for partnerships and multisectoral collaborations; increase advocacy to invest in health systems for health security; and explore ways of making better use of innovative approaches and new technologies for data collection, analysis, and timely information sharing.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has initiated the “Heal Komfo Anokye Hospital Project” to address the pressing issues facing the health facility located in the Ashanti Region.
Seeking support from Members of Parliament, government officials, corporate bodies, and the public, the Asantehene aims to raise $10 million to alleviate the challenges faced by this crucial healthcare institution, which serves over ten regions in Ghana.
The hospital infrastructure’s decay has adversely impacted healthcare services, leading to frequent breakdowns of essential equipment. Various structural issues, such as abandoned projects, deteriorated buildings, leaking roofs, and extensive cracks, contribute to the challenges confronting this tertiary health facility.
Aging construction methods exacerbate ventilation issues, posing a significant concern for the hospital, which is over 70 years old. After an independent assessment, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II emphasized the urgent need to address these challenges to preserve the facility’s integrity.
“Not long ago, the new chief executive officer of KATH visited me and asked for my help. He informed me that the facility is however facing numerous challenges. I told him that I had even disguised myself and had visited the facility on two different occasions and that, I was aware of the numerous challenges.
“I came to the facility again to independently assess the situation. I told him that we would make sure we raise the needed amount to give this facility a facelift. This hospital serves 12 out of the 16 regions. The situation is embarrassing. There is not enough equipment but the doctors are doing their maximum best. This should be devoid of politics. We have to ensure the challenges are addressed. The facility will outlive all governments so we should do well to support this initiative”.
The health facility’s Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Otchere Addai Mensah, has underlined the pressing need for immediate attention, cautioning against a possible catastrophic structural failure if the issues remain unaddressed.
“The sad state of affairs is getting worse by the day and we are reaching a point where if nothing was done immediately the whole ‘GEE Blocks’ could soon suffer a catastrophic structural failure with dire consequences for healthcare services in the region and beyond. We should not forget that daily, our specialist OPD services alone are accessed by about a thousand patients from all over Ghana,” he said.
Upon achieving the fundraising goal and completing the initiative, the “Heal Komfo Anokye Hospital Project” will stand as a key legacy project in commemoration of the upcoming 25th anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s enstoolment as the Asantehene next year.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully managed to prevent the destruction of a 4-bedroom compound house in Suhum during a fire outbreak.
A distress call was received at the Suhum Fire Station at 11:02am on Friday, reporting an outbreak of fire near the ST. Mary School in the Suhum Municipality.
Upon arriving at the scene at 11:07am, the crew observed that fire had engulfed a wooden structure used as a kitchen, which is situated very close to a four-bedroom house.
The crew tackled the fire and brought it under control at 11:29am and finally extinguished it at 11:45am.
The fire caused damage to some cooking utensils, books, and food stuff, but the four bedroom house was saved.
During the 2023 Paris Peace Forum, President Akufo-Addo laid out five key avenues to ensure global peace and security.
His proposal encompassed two economic aspects, one focused on climate issues, and two related to global governance and multilateralism.
The president shared these insights in a Facebook post on November 11.
“As we strive for a more peaceful world, in which every citizen should have the opportunity to develop fully their potential and contribute to global stability and prosperity, I see five minimum conditions for success,” he stressed before listing the conditions which are as follows:
Firstly, we should, as a matter of urgency, reform the global financial architecture because the current system is not fit-for-purpose when it comes to addressing inequalities;
Secondly, we should foster economic equity, and promote inclusive economic growth by investing in education, healthcare, and social safety nets to ensure that everyone, everywhere, has an equal opportunity to prosper;
Thirdly, we should hold leaders accountable, enforced through transparent governance, strong civil societies, and independent media;
Fourthly, we should encourage global security and climate action as the basis for sustained economic development. Conflicts perpetuate inequalities, and their prevention should be a global priority. Simultaneously, we must take meaningful steps to combat climate change and support climate adaptation, while transitioning to sustainable, green economies; and
Fifthly, we should reform the institutions of global governance, particularly the UN Security Council, which is responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security, and correct the longstanding injustice that the current structure and composition of the Council represent, especially for the nations of Africa. We cannot continue to preach democracy and fairness around the world, we cannot insist on peace and justice around the world, when our global security organisation is not seen by the majority of its members as having a structure that is effective, fair and just.
The Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) has urged the Police to support the growth of the nation’s transit trade sector without disrupting its flow.
Addressing a workshop organized by the Authority for Police officers to enhance the nation’s trade routes, Head of the Freight and Logistics Department at GSA, Fred Asiedu Dartey, acknowledged the loss of transit business to neighboring landlocked countries due to excessive Police checks on highways.
Mr Dartey noted that 80% of road-related harassment was attributed to the Police, causing delays and extortion at checkpoints, which deterred international traders. As a result, traders have been redirecting their activities to ports in Togo, Ivory Coast, and other more favorable destinations within the sub-region.
Emphasizing the economic significance of transit trade, Dartey highlighted its substantial annual contribution to the national economy, stressing the need to sustain this sector.
He highlighted the substantial number of checkpoints, citing 63 from the port of Tema to Hamele and a total of 53 from Tema to Paga, suggesting that while the structure of Police checkpoints is justified, it should not impede the smooth flow of trade.
“We need to do something. Drivers spend 1 to 3 hours at checkpoints over petty issues, and extortion is affecting the patronage of Ghana’s ports. The police should not sell the birthright of the nation for a pittance on the corridors,” Mr. Dartey stated.
The challenges affecting transit corridors were further discussed, involving taxes on services, interference from middlemen, and delays at border crossings.
Additional hurdles such as language barriers, demurrage charges, and banking complexities were identified during the discussion.
Officers were reminded of the complexities of international trade and encouraged to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure proper protocols are followed in managing diverse situations.
“Trade facilitation is very crucial and transit trade is key. We should not impede the development of transit trade because it will affect the prospects for the development of the nation’s ports,” Mr Dartey said.
CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Ms. Benonita Bismarck, highlighted in her speech that transit trade facilitation is in harmony with the goals of the AfCFTA and emphasized the Authority’s commitment to championing it.
“Contrary to the widely held perception that Ghana does not derive any benefits from the transit trade through its corridors, the outcome of a study in 2015 showed that tangible financial benefits accrued to operators along the transit value chain,” she said.
In a bid to enhance the sector, the Shippers Authority initiated an MoU with landlocked countries to strengthen essential collaboration.
Additionally, land has been procured in Ghana’s Central Region for erecting a freight park and a one-stop complex. These structures are expected to be replicated along major corridors.
The Chief Executive expressed optimism that these initiatives would positively impact the growth of transit trade, highlighting the need for all stakeholders to contribute to its enhancement.
Lawyer and Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has suggested that the State should capitalize on politicians’ vulnerabilities to hold them accountable.
He emphasizes that many politicians would rather secure votes through buying instead of earning power through hard work and competence. To address this, Barker-Vormawor advocates for a review of the constitution to incorporate disqualification for individuals involved in vote buying.
His remarks were made following the recently concluded NPP Presidential Primaries, which witnessed documented instances of monetary incentives being offered to delegates.
“If we had a system for instance in terms of law-making and we said that any candidate or whose candidate on behalf of the candidate, money was offered to another person will automatically be disqualified,” he said on Newsfile on JoyNews on Saturday.
“I think that the candidates themselves will automatically check each other. They would want to get the other person disqualified. They would plant their own people to see whether or not they are giving money to the other side. You have to be able to use people’s greed against themselves for the system to work,” he added.
Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has highlighted that the recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary on November 4 saw many individuals underestimating his influence in the political landscape.
Mr Agyapong stressed that his opponents consistently underestimated him, evident in their surprise at his securing over 37% of the votes. He pointed out the initial predictions suggesting he would receive less than 15% or at most 20%, noting that those who made such forecasts are now silent.
During an event in Accra on November 11, 2023, he noted that the race was essentially a clash between himself and the entire government of President Akufo-Addo.
“We all fought a good fight. We went into a contest and as you know, you either win or lose. This contest was one man against the whole system,” he said to cheers from the gathering that brought together campaign officers and supporters from across the country.
“They underestimated me, when the election was getting close, I was told I will get 10% maximum. Others floated a research finding that I will get 15%, today they are all hiding,” he stressed.
Following the November 4 vote, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious in the party’s flagbearer contest, securing 61.47% of the total votes cast by nearly 200,000 delegates. His closest contender, Ken Agyapong, secured around 37.41%, a figure that surprised observers and critics.
Since the contest, party members who had previously criticized Ken have commended him for his performance during the campaigns. Earlier this week, Bawumia visited Ken at his residence in what is perceived as an initial effort to bring him on board for the 2024 campaign.

Black Stars forward Andre Ayew has officially joined French club Le Havre as a free agent for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
This marks Ayew’s return to the French Ligue after spending five months without a club, having been released by Nottingham Forest at the end of the previous season.
The 33-year-old is reuniting with the French league, where he previously played for Olympique Marseille before departing for Swansea City in 2015.
Ayew’s arrival is expected to provide valuable experience to Le Havre, who currently occupy the sixth position in the Ligue 1 standings after completing 12 games this season.
During his career, Ayew has had stints in England, playing for West Ham United, Swansea City, and, most recently, Nottingham Forest. He also played for Fenerbahce in Turkey and Al Sadd in Qatar between his spells in the Premier League.
Recently, Ayew was named in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.
Two brothers are reported to have tragically lost their lives after a team of security officers allegedly initiated a gun attack on a community mining site in Tepa, Ashanti region.
The deceased, identified as Abdul Samed Razak and Hashmil Usman, were part of a group protecting the mining site when the security task force conducted a swoop.
Among the group, four others sustained injuries, two of whom are in critical condition.
In an attempt to crack down on illegal mining, the security personnel, around 80 in number, set fire to mining equipment, including chanfang and other earth-moving machinery at the location.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared that the parliamentary primaries for its 174 constituencies represented in parliament are scheduled for January 20, 2024.
In an official statement, the party announced the commencement of nominations for the primary elections, set to run from December 20, 2023, to December 22, 2023.
“The National Executive Committee has also rescheduled the date for the conduct of the Party’s Parliamentary Primaries in Constituencies where the Party has sitting MPs. The new date for the conduct of the primaries is 20th January, 2023.
“Nomination shall open on 20th December, 2023, and close on 22nd December, 2023. The Party shall soon issue detailed guidelines to govern the conduct of the primaries in these Constituencies,” part of the statement, which was issued by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Koduah, reads.
“The Party anticipates the full cooperation of all stakeholders in the conduct of the primaries and wishes all aspiring candidates the best of luck,” it added.
The party also disclosed its plans to conduct the parliamentary primaries for constituencies without representation in parliament, termed “orphan constituencies,” on December 2, 2023.
This decision was reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Friday, November 10, 2023. Additionally, the party confirmed that vetting for parliamentary aspirants in these constituencies is scheduled to take place from November 14, 2023, to November 16, 2023.
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has indicated that the party’s 2024 manifesto will be revealed soon.
During an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, November 5, Mr Nketia suggested that the NDC will not run its campaign on free promises, especially at a time when production must be elevated to sustain the economy.
For him, this would prevent a situation where money will be printed to help address the country’s economic woes..
“We will bring our manifesto out very soon,” he hinted, “and you will know what it is that we are going to do.”
“Whatever you promise to do can only succeed on a strong economy,” he stated, citing agriculture and energy as key areas to be given attention.
“We will give you the details of what our manifesto will look like but the bottom line is that you cannot build anything on nothing. So, those who go about promising free this, free that, free this, free that, the free can only happen on solid production.
“If there is no solid production and you go about promising free, free, free, you can only print money and when you print money you will make the economy worse.”
He also conveyed his confidence in the party’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama, prevailing over the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.
Mr. Mahama, during his ‘Thank You’ tours, gave indications about some of the policies he intends to pursue if he is re-elected to lead the country.
“The payment of ex gratia to members of the executive will be scrapped,” he announced when he launched his bid to contest the NDC presidential primaries held in May.
“The necessary constitutional steps to take this will start in earnest in 2025,” he added.
“We will also persuade members of the other arms of government to accept its removal.”
Mr. Asiedu Nketia disclosed that some individuals who had criticized Mr. Mahama during his presidency are now offering apologies to him.
“Those who are talking today are the same people who condemned John Dramani Mahama and over the past two years, people are coming out to apologise.
“People are coming out to say that they were misled into believing in certain things and that is a stronger vote for President John Dramani Mahama.”
President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Eric Angel Carbonu, has expressed concern over the consequences of the Akosombo Dam Spillage on students.
The spillage, causing displacement of over 20,000 individuals in the Lower Volta Basin, has led to a complete halt in activities, including schooling, as the affected communities are submerged.
Mr Carbonu, addressing the media, emphasized the devastating impact of the flooding on academic pursuits, with schools closed for over a month in all Lower Volta Basin communities.
He highlighted the urgency, as these students will be sitting for the same exam as those unaffected by the Akosombo Dam Spillage and still attending school.
“The students who are in there have been gratefully affected by this disaster. They have not been able to go to school since this happened, and they are going to write the same exams as kids from Accra, Kumasi, and other places not affected by this.”
“The senior high schools in the areas have also been closed down, and what we need now is an intervention for them to catch up on the time they have lost. Now some of the schools and houses are not habitable, and this is something we need to tackle to get academic exercise back on,” he said on Rainbow Radio Accra.
He also encouraged teachers to reconsider their decision of not returning to the communities in the Lower Volta Basin to resume their duties, emphasizing the importance of supporting and guiding both the environment and the prospects of future generations.
“Teachers should bear in mind that they will soon go back to teach the kids and should accept that situations have changed on the grounds of the disaster and must use every resource, no matter how little, to help these kids catch up.”
The family of Rhodaline Amoah Darko, a Senior Lands Administrative Officer missing for over two years, has announced a GH¢100,000 reward for any information leading to her whereabouts.
Her spouse, Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey, employed in the Petroleum Department at KNUST, is currently facing trial for alleged kidnapping at the Kumasi High Court.
In 2022, preliminary investigations had implicated Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey in an alleged kidnapping note, and police also accused him of sending text messages from his wife’s phone, apparently from a location near his KNUST Campus residence.
However, he was discharged by the Court in February 2022 but was subsequently re-arrested to face new charges at the Kumasi High Court, where he was granted bail.
In addition, Justice Appiah and Yaw Amoateng, accused of selling and purchasing a phone belonging to the missing Rhodaline Darko, are also standing trial.
The Kumasi High Court is scheduled to resume the case on November 13, 2023, following multiple adjournments.
Italian fashion designer Davide Renne has passed away at the age of 46, just nine days after assuming the role of creative director at Moschino.
The cause of his death remains undisclosed, although Moschino’s parent company Aeffe mentioned “a sudden illness” and confirmed his passing in Milan on Friday.
Prior to his tenure at Moschino, Renne served as the head of women’s wear at Gucci, contributing nearly 20 years of work to the fashion house.
Aeffe’s chairman said: “There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time.”
“Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned,” said Massimo Ferretti in a statement posted on Instagram.
Born in Follonica, Tuscany, in July 1977, Renne pursued his studies at both the University of Florence and the Polimoda fashion school. His career commenced alongside Italian fashion designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua, followed by his transition to Gucci in 2004.
In October, Renne was unveiled as the creative director for Moschino. He was slated to unveil his inaugural collection for the brand at Milan Fashion Week in February.
At the time of his appointment, Renne said: “Franco Moschino had a nickname for his design studio – la sala giochi, the playroom.
“This resonates deeply with me: what fashion – Italian fashion especially, and the house of Moschino most of all – can achieve with its enormous power should be accomplished with a sense of play, of joy. A sense of discovery, and experimentation.”
Several influential figures in the fashion industry have taken to social media to pay their respects, with many leaving comments on Renne’s Instagram posts.
Harris Reed, the creative director of Nina Ricci, described Renne as “a true true angel”, while model and singer Karen Elson wrote: “My heart breaks. Sweet Davide rest in peace.”
Renne’s mentor, Dell’Acqua, posted on Instagram: “Farewell Davide!! You will always be in my heart.”
The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has refuted claims of discontinuing the cocoa syndication loans for the 2023/2024 crop season.
Instead, it clarified that it is currently in the process of securing $800 million from a consortium of banks to facilitate cocoa purchases.
“Since the beginning of the Season, cocoa purchases have been financed with non-collateralised cocoa sales proceeds. COCOBOD is therefore still in the process of securing the syndicated loan for the 2023/24 Crop Season”, it said in a press release.
The statement further clarified that COCOBOD had initially intended to raise an additional $400 million.
“The strategy was therefore, to use a pre-financing arrangement with the international buyers to raise an amount of $400 million for purchases at the beginning of the Season in September 2023”.
“These initial funds were expected to be augmented by an additional US$800 million loan from a syndicate of lenders by the end of November, 2023. After engagements with buyers for several weeks, the arrangement was however discontinued”, it added.
The statement confirmed that the Company’s Board has received positive feedback from bankers regarding the Cocoa Syndicated Loan, which has been presented in Parliament for review and endorsement.
“We wish to use this medium to assure our stakeholders that the necessary arrangements have been made to secure enough funding for cocoa purchases for the year under review”, it said.
Public health expert Dr. Seidu Fiter has cautioned residents of Tamale to take precautions against the recent surge of Acute Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis, commonly referred to as ‘apollo,’ which has impacted the Northern Region.
The Tamale Metropolis has observed numerous cases of Apollo, prompting many individuals to resort to self-medication, particularly during this period of the year when the weather becomes exceedingly hot and Apollo cases tend to rise.
Acute Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis, known as Apollo, is a severe viral form of pink eye that may lead to symptoms like eyelid swelling, eye discharge, and bleeding.
In Ghana, Apollo was initially identified in 1969 and has persistently recurred, spreading particularly during the dry season in the Northern regions of the country.
In an interview with GhanaWeb in Tamale on Friday, November 10, 2023, the health expert recommended that residents practice thorough handwashing with soap and running water for a minimum of 20 seconds. This measure is vital for eliminating any potential bacteria or viruses on their hands.
Additionally, he advised against touching or rubbing the eyes to prevent the transmission of the infection. Proper disposal of tissues and wipes was also encouraged to reduce exposure to the infection for others.
“Try to avoid touching or rubbing your eyes, as this can spread the infection from one eye to the other or other people. If you need to use tissues or wipes, make sure to dispose of them properly in a closed bin” he advised.
Dr. Seidu Fiter stressed the importance of seeking professional medical attention rather than resorting to self-medication, which he emphasized as potentially hazardous.
Highlighting the varied forms of Apollo, he urged residents to prioritize professional care. Visiting different health facilities can help determine the specific type of Apollo a person may be experiencing.
“First of all, Viral or Bacterial Conjunctivitis can affect either one or both eyes. Watery discharge is often seen in Viral Conjunctivitis. In Bacterial Conjunctivitis, a thicker, yellow-green-like discharge is seen. These symptoms are often can be confused with cold or respiratory infection symptoms. However, both of the causes are highly contagious. Therefore care must be taken to prevent it from spreading. You as an individual can’t know this, only a health professional can, therefore, always seek professional care” he noted.
Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has emphasized that the team’s primary focus lies on the upcoming two initial matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana is set to face Madagascar and Comoros in their first qualifying games for the tournament later this month before shifting their attention to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
While Ghanaians are eager for continental success, with the last victory dating back to 1982, the team is placed in Group B for the forthcoming tournament alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
Despite the yearning for continental success, the coach has urged that the paramount concentration should be on the qualifying campaign for the next World Cup, which kicks off next week.
“It’s great to want to talk about Afcon, but sometimes for coaches, it’s difficult because we have two very important games before then,” he said in an interview with BBC.
“I think if your concentrations are too far past that then you can take your eye off what is in this moment the most important thing – our World Cup qualification games.
“What we would want is to do well in these games, to win these games and to be able to go into Afcon with good momentum. But this [World Cup qualifiers] must come first.”
The Black Stars will host Madagascar at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday, November 17 to begin their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.
Presumed human bones were found in the room of a 30-year-old man who reportedly took his own life in Dabiasem, a neighborhood within the New Juaben North municipality in the Eastern region.
Reports indicate that the young man who tragically ended his life had a shrine inside his room. Recent information reveals that the shrine was marked with a red substance, which some speculate could be blood. Additionally, the police discovered several other items, including cola nuts and various objects associated with ritual practices.
The deceased, Yaw Christopher, was discovered lifeless in his room on the morning of Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Prior to this tragic event, he allegedly expressed remorse for his intention to end his life and instructed his family to sell his belongings to support his mother, Martha Yaa Badu.
“Oh God please forgive me! If found, please sell my house and properties and help my mother Martha Yaa Badu. Rest in Peace to my soul,” Yaw Christopher’s suicide letter cited by Nyankonton Mu Nsem read.
Christopher was found suspended in his room after neighbors noticed his absence and had to forcibly open his door.
Ghanaian healthcare professional Osei Boateng, currently pursuing his Master’s in Business Creation at the University of Utah in the United States, has been selected as one of ten finalists for this year’s CNN’s Hero of the Year award.
Mr Boateng stands as the sole African among the finalists.
As the CEO of the non-profit organization OKB Hope Foundation based in Ghana, he utilizes a mobile van to deliver primary and preventative healthcare services to rural communities with limited access to health facilities and financial constraints. His innovative approach involves converting a van into a mobile healthcare clinic, resembling a doctor’s office.
Equipped with solar panels, the van ensures operation in areas without electricity. While primarily serving the Ashanti Region, it extends its free services to parts of the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Central Regions as well.
“We go to rural and underserved communities to provide them with primary and preventative healthcare. They get to see a doctor, they get their labs done, they get medications, and they’re out of there,” Osei told US-based KSL TV.
Boateng shared that his inspiration for the initiative stemmed from observing the challenges faced by people in his hometown of Bomfa-Achiase in the Ashanti Region, including his grandmother and aunt, who had to travel long distances for medical care.
He said, on average, people walk 17-24 kilometres to visit a clinic.
“Even if they got there, there’s no guarantee that they will see a doctor,” an experience that took the lives of some of his family members.
“If we could have gotten the care at an earlier time, or even seen the healthcare provider, they could’ve prevented that,” he said.
“It wasn’t a disease they should have died of, so that’s why I’m trying to get the van to these communities.”
In an interview with MyJoyOnline, Mr Osei Boateng expressed that every vote in his favor for the ultimate prize would significantly impact healthcare for numerous rural communities in Ghana. His aspiration is to secure both funding and a platform for his initiative by winning the CNN Hero of the Year award.
“Supporting us in winning this award is not just a vote; it’s a vital contribution to the urgent cause of delivering timely healthcare to rural and underserved communities. Your involvement is instrumental, as every delay in reaching these individuals with healthcare could mean someone paying with their life. Your support can make a profound difference in ensuring swift and life-saving interventions for those who need it the most.”
“It’s really important for me to get this particular support to expand the work I’m doing because right now we don’t have any significant support,” he said.
“Securing this award will be a catalyst for obtaining the necessary resources to broaden our efforts. Our aim is to bring timely healthcare not just to my community, but also to the doorsteps of additional rural and underserved communities, fostering a more widespread impact” Osei Boateng said.
“All of the professors, my preceptors, colleagues, they are all supportive of the work I’m doing,” Mr Boateng added.
If Mr Boateng wins, he earns $100,000. You can vote for Boateng by clicking here every day until December 5, 2023. The winner will be announced on December 10.

Head of the legal team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has criticized President Akufo-Addo’s administration, labeling it as an “auto-pilot system of government.”
Tameklo claimed that the President has delegated his duties to family members within his administration, displaying a lack of concern for the welfare of Ghanaians.
Echoing sentiments from a recent article by a former minister, he agreed that the government is primarily centered around family, friends, and associates, terming it a “family and friends and concubines administration.”
Speaking in an interview on TV XYZ on November 10, 2023, he stated, “Akufo-Addo’s government that he is leading is on auto-pilot.
“He is not the one managing the economy; he has entrusted the economy to individuals like Gabby, Bediatuo, Ken Ofori-Atta, and other family members to oversee the country’s affairs.
“He simply takes breakfast and sleeps, while his family members manage the economy. Those we didn’t vote for are now part of the administration, as Frimpong Boateng stated, friends, family, and concubines administration. He was part of the administration and he has come out to say that the government is composed of family, friends, and concubines.”
There have been reports from the opposition NDC about prominent NPP member, Gabby Otchere Darko’s influence in the current government. There have been no substantive evidence but reports have it that he has behind a number of significant deals in the country.
Former Environment Minister, Professor Frimpong-Boateng has accused him of assisting illegal mining activities in the country but that claim has been refuted by Mr Otchere.
With regards to Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to relieve him of his duties owing to Ghana’s economic crisis, have left many wondering. Some believe he has some leverage on the president while others believe he is covering up some unlawful issues for the president.
The former United Nations Envoy to West Africa and the Sahel Region, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, advised Ghanaians to be cautious regarding the divisive religious and ethnic sentiments that are surfacing in anticipation of the 2024 general election.
He stated, “The commitment to the betterment of our country is a collective responsibility and must transcend political, religious, and ethnic boundaries.
“Unfortunately, we are seeing some divisive tendencies in our society, and we must all be careful about them, especially when we have elections in 2024. When it comes to election year, all our demons come out.”
He delivered these comments during the “Empowering Citizens and Enriching Nation-Building” forum organized by Star Ghana, held at the British Council in Accra on Friday.
Dr. Chambas emphasized that the selection of the country’s leaders should surpass religious and ethnic factors, stressing that citizens should gauge political parties based on their messages, policy suggestions, and strategies for managing the nation’s affairs.
He encouraged both citizens and political parties to prioritize issue-based campaigning for the upcoming 2024 general election.
“So please let us focus on messages when we are choosing our leaders in this country,” he emphasised.
He highlighted that despite Ghana’s considerable strides in democracy, there are persistent challenges hindering the nation from fully reaping the benefits of this progress.
Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has lauded Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his visit to Kennedy Agyapong following the presidential primary.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Atta Mills Institute viewed the Vice President’s action as a demonstration of unifying leadership, signifying an inclusive and open-hearted approach.
After his recent election as the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Bawumia made an unexpected visit to Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central MP, who secured second place in the primary. The meeting, conducted over dinner on Wednesday, aimed to rekindle the camaraderie between the two politicians.
Dr. Bawumia plans to visit other aspirants who participated in the primary, striving to mend relationships and foster unity.
Commending the Vice President’s actions, Koku Anyidoho drew parallels between this gesture and similar efforts he witnessed under the late former presidents Rawlings and Atta Mills within the NDC. He noted their endeavors to bring about harmony and unity, a contrast he suggested is lacking in the current NDC.
“Great move by Dr. Bawumia. Exhibiting signs of a great & unifying Leader with a BIG ACCOMMODATING heart. Great Leaders refuse to be petty and like the eagle ????, they glide with stormy winds.
“Ayekoo to DMB????????????????I saw Rawlings and President Atta-Mills employ the same unifying approach to leading the NDC at it worked well in bringing harmony behind the NDC for a collective common good.
“Unfortunately, John Mahama and Asiedu-Nketiah do not have such qualities and are busy destroying the NDC with their unacceptable extremely divisive and corrosive leadership styles,” parts of his post read.
Brilliant move by Dr. Bawumia. A unifying Leader with a BIG and ACCOMMODATING heart. Reminds me so much of President Atta-Mills. Great Leaders refuse to be petty – and like the eagle 🦅, they glide with stormy winds. Ayekoo to DMB👌👌👍🙏 pic.twitter.com/weZ4fbVmVF
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has slated Saturday, December 2, 2023, to hold an Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference.
This decision was reached during a meeting by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and aims to elect the party’s Parliamentary Candidates in constituencies where the NPP currently lacks parliamentary representation.
According to a press statement released on Friday, November 10, and signed by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the vetting process for aspiring Parliamentary candidates in these constituencies will take place in the regional capitals from Tuesday, November 14, to Thursday, November 16, 2023.
The statement also instructed the Regional Executive Committees to convey the dates, times, and venues for the vetting process to their respective constituencies and aspiring parliamentary candidates.
The Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference is intended for all Orphan Constituencies, except for Ketu North, Akatsi North, Yilo Krobo, Jomoro, Fomena, and Bawku Central.
Furthermore, the NEC has modified the date for the party’s Parliamentary Primaries in constituencies where incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) are in office. The updated date for these primaries is January 20, 2023, with the nomination period commencing on December 20, 2023, and concluding on December 22, 2023.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his dissatisfaction with Marcus Rashford’s present form but remains supportive of the player, backing him to regain his stride.
The England international has tallied only one goal in 15 appearances across all competitions this season and received a straight red card during Wednesday’s 4-3 loss against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.
Despite Rashford’s recent struggles, Gareth Southgate has maintained confidence in him by including him in the latest Three Lions squad. Ten Hag anticipates a turnaround in performance from the 26-year-old in the future.
The Dutch manager said: “I think he’s [Rashford] not happy, we are not happy. We have an expectation. He has high expectations from himself. In this moment he is not in the best form but I know he will be back.
“I know when the team is playing better he will play better. He will go and score goals. I am confident of that. This season he will improve and score goals.
“He is totally in the team, he is aware of everything so I think he will be back on track.
“It can happen very quickly and sometimes you only need one game. I’m sure he will get there.”
United’s defeat in Copenhagen was their ninth in 17 matches this season, making tomorrow’s Premier League meeting with Luton a must-win for Ten Hag.
When asked whether recent results have been acceptable, the Red Devils boss replied: “It is about the end result and we have to win every game, so we are very disappointed to lose any game but finally it is about the end result.
“It is always about being in a process, thinking about a process and then it’s about managing the process. That’s the only thing I focus on.
“I think we have often proved we can, like at Fulham, like Brentford, that we can overcome big setbacks.”
Rashford is set to rejoin United’s starting XI against Luton after being absent in the 1-0 victory over Fulham last weekend. However, Ten Hag confirmed that center-back Jonny Evans won’t be available at Old Trafford due to an injury sustained on Wednesday night.
Board Chairman of the RTI Commission (RTIC), Justice (Rtd) Kwesi A. Ofori Atta, has emphasized the significance of the Right to Information (RTI) law as a powerful tool in combating corruption and encouraging active public engagement in governance.
He noted that the RTI law has evolved into a fundamental measure for fostering transparency in governance and public discussions, serving as a mechanism to enhance democracy and good governance.
Justice (rtd) Atta, who said this in Wa during a stakeholders’ forum on the RTI law, indicated that: “This law has been made for all of us and everybody can take advantage of it.”
Representatives from public and private institutions, Civil Society Organizations, Persons with Disabilities, and students gathered for a forum addressing the theme: “Your Right to Access Information and the Role of the Right to Information Commission Under Act 989.”
This forum was organized as part of the RTIC’s initiatives to enlighten the public about the clauses within the RTI law and empower them to assert their right to information as stipulated by the Act.
“If this law will help us bring down corruption or even expose corruption and promote transparency, all of us must participate.
“Like a double-edged sword, the RTI has the potency to create an avenue for transparency and accountability that engulfs every individual and entity. So, the government, state authorities and entities are brought under the microscope of scrutiny by affording people the chance to ask for information”, he added.
He stressed that all individuals and stakeholders in Ghana carry the responsibility of ensuring the effective implementation of the RTI Act 2019 (Act 989).
Yaw Sarpong Boateng, Esq., the Executive Secretary of the RTIC, during his presentation, encouraged the public to utilize the RTI law to request information from public institutions and to report instances where those institutions fall short.
He highlighted that individuals requesting information under the RTI law weren’t obligated to provide reasons for their inquiries. However, he emphasized the responsibility of using the acquired information in accordance with the law.
Boateng clarified that every public institution should have an updated repository managed by an RTI Officer, accessible to any Ghanaian upon formal request under the RTI law.
He also specified that certain information is exempt from public access under the RTI law, citing reasons such as national security, policy planning, law enforcement, international relations, economic interests, and privileged information.
Peter Maala, the Upper West Regional Coordinating Director, representing the Regional Minister, pledged the support of the Regional Coordinating Council and the Municipal and District Assemblies in ensuring the effective implementation of the RTI law.
During the session, some participants inquired about the establishment of an RTIC office in the region to enhance access to its services.
The participants were encouraged to serve as ambassadors for the RTIC, spreading awareness and education about the RTI law throughout the region.
