  • Man gathers money to send fire engine to Ukraine

A man has raised ยฃ20,000 to buy a fire engine for a town in Ukraine after vehicles there were diverted for the war effort.

Bob Frendt from Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, delivered medical aid to the town of Volodymyr.

But after learning that people did not have fire trucks because of the war, the 73-year-old man came up with the idea of โ€‹โ€‹raising money to buy a new device.

When he bought the fire truck, a company in East Yorkshire donated a second vehicle to send to Ukraine.

Mr. Frendt, a former truck driver, has previously made shipments to the northwestern city, including a 40-ton medical aid trailer, a double-decker station wagon for sorting and Learning materials for a school. He said that during a recent visit, the mayor asked him if he โ€œhad a fire truck available.โ€

Mr Frendt told BBC Radio York: “The central government withdrew fire trucks from all these towns at the start of the war to protect Kiev and other major towns where all the heritage sites are located.”

โ€œI asked what would happen if there was a fire and he said, โ€˜we just stand there and watch, because we can’t do anything else’.โ€

    โ€œTerribleโ€ situation

He said he was โ€œappalledโ€ by the situation but doubted he could raise enough money to buy a fire truck.

Mr. Frendt said he was later introduced to the wife of the first Ukrainian killed when his tank exploded during the war.

โ€œHis widow is 32 years old, has two young children and they live on the sixth floor.

โ€œI asked what would happen if there was a fire or missile attack [on the building]? She replied ‘we will die because we cannot get out’. So that motivated me. It’s terrible. ยป

He raised enough money to buy a fire truck, with the support of manufacturer Angloco Limited, who he said gave him a “huge discount” on the purchase of the equipment.

A donation of ยฃ10,000 was also made by a man who wanted to contribute to the appeal in memory of his mother.

The fire truck was named Joyce in his honor.

Mr Frendt said chemical company Croda, based in East Yorkshire, donated a second fire truck when it placed an order with a company that manufactures the vehicle. It would take him four days to drive the emergency response vehicle to Volodymyr.

He said these were “specialized” fire engines and the new vehicle would be equipped with a 32 meter high ladder – something he knew would reach the family on the sixth floor of a building.

  • Dianne Feinstein passes away at age 90

Dianne Feinstein, a California state senator who served for more than three decades and was a pioneer for women’s participation in American politics, has died at the age of 90.

Feinstein is the oldest member of the US Senate and voted last Thursday.

For months, the veteran Democrat has faced questions about memory and cognitive problems.

In April, she was hospitalized after a โ€œmild fallโ€ at home, the latest in a series of health problems.

In a statement, Ms. Feinstein’s office said she died overnight at her home in Washington DC. โ€œSenator Feinstein is a force of nature who has had an incredible impact on our country and her home state,โ€ the statement added. โ€œShe leaves behind an extraordinary and undeniable legacy.โ€

California Governor Gavin Newsom must now name his replacement. He previously pledged to nominate a black woman for the remainder of his term, which ends in 2025.

Born in 1933, Feinstein grew up in San Francisco and graduated from Stanford University before being elected to the San Francisco County Board of Supervisors in 1969.

This election marked the beginning of a long career in public service, which made her the first female mayor of San Francisco and eventually led her to become a senator in 1992. She had previously announced her intention to retire at the end of next year, but has increasingly resisted calls for her to step down. Several prominent Democrats, including congressmen Adam Schiff and Katie Porter, have announced they will run for his Senate seat.

In a statement after her death, US President Joe Biden said Ms Feinstein “made history in many ways and our country will benefit from her legacy for generations”.

Earlier this year, she spent nearly three months away from the Capitol because of shingles. Upon her return, she took on lighter duties and moved around the U.S. Capitol in a wheelchair. She sometimes seemed confused during interviews, committee hearings or floor votes.

Ms. Feinstein is known as a strong supporter of gun control measures and was a strong supporter of the assault weapons ban signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1994.
In 1978, she became mayor of San Francisco after her predecessor, George Moscone, and City Councilman Harvey Milk were shot.

She later recounted that she rushed to Mayor Moscone’s office and discovered a gunshot wound while feeling for a pulse – an experience that she said left an indelible impression on her.

As a senator, Feinstein was the first woman to chair the powerful Senate Intelligence Committee, where she led a multi-year review of the foreign terrorist interrogation program CIA controversy following the September 11, 2001 attacks. The review eventually led to legislation banning the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” such as simulated drowning on terrorism suspects.

Ms. Feinstein is also the first woman to serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee and the first female chairwoman of the Senate Rules Committee.

  • Dog accused of preventing Kenya from winning marathon

A Kenyan senator has criticized sports bodies for inaction after a dog chased Robert Kimutai Ng’eno during a marathon in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last week.

Reports said the Kenyan athlete was leading with 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) to go when the dog appeared and followed him. Despite efforts by some spectators to chase the dog away, the encounter was said to have caused Ng’eno to lose concentration and eventually finish in third place.

Kenyans Cornelius Kiplagat and Paul Kipngetich Tanui finished first and second respectively.

The photo of the dog chasing Ng’eno has been widely shared on social media and some people are wondering why nothing was done to protect the athlete. Kenyan Senator Samson Cherargei said on X (formerly Twitter): โ€œThis athlete was stripped of his dignity and subjected to unspeakable ridicule.โ€

He claimed that Kenyan Sports Minister Ababu Namwamba and Kenya Athletics had failed the runner, adding that they “did not find it wise to protest and ask Argentine authorities to investigate.”

  • Two guys accused after cocaine find off coast of Cork

The drugs, which Gardaรญ (Irish police) said had an estimated street value of โ‚ฌ150 million, were seized from a bulk carrier off the coast of County Cork on Wednesday.

In court were Jamie Harbron, 31 years old, of South Avenue, Billingham, Stockton-on-Tees, England and Vitaliy Lapa, 60 years old, of no fixed residence but originally from Ukraine.

Both men appeared at a special hearing at Waterford District Court on Friday night.

Gardaรญ said the arrest was the largest in the history of the Irish state.

Both men were charged with conspiracy to import drugs. Neither responded when charged. They have been remanded in custody and will appear before Wexford District Court on Monday, via video link.

Two men have been arrested after being taken to safety from a fishing vessel off the Wexford coast after the vessel ran aground on a sandbar on Sunday evening.

They appeared in court following a major ongoing investigation into illegal drug trafficking, which this week focused on the activities of the cargo ship MV Matthew.

The Panama-registered bulk carrier, which left South America last month, was intercepted and escorted to Cork port on Tuesday by a joint Irish task force, comprising gardai, navy, military forestry, tax and customs officers. It is suspected that the ship intended to join the fishing trawler stranded off the Wexford coast.

Five other men also arrested in the operation remain in custody

  • Former Wagner leader Troshev meets Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with one of the former top commanders of the Wagner mercenary group, who the Kremlin said now works for the Defense Ministry.

Andrei Troshev is a former collaborator of the late Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, who died in a plane crash in August.

His death occurred two months after Wagner’s brief march on Moscow.

The Kremlin said President Putin asked Mr. Troshev to supervise volunteer fighting units in Ukraine.

Speaking to Mr. Troshev, the president said he could “provide units capable of performing various combat missions, especially, of course, in the area of โ€‹โ€‹special military operations,” implying Ukraine only. Putin added: “You know the problems that need to be resolved first so that combat work can take place in the best and most successful way.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told RIA news agency that Mr Troshev “is currently working in the Ministry of Defense”.

The meeting comes as Putin tries to reassert his power after the Wagner mutiny in June.

Within just 24 hours, Prigozhin organized an uprising, sending troops into the southern city of Rostov, then further toward Moscow before retreating. It is the biggest challenge to Putin’s power in the past two decades. Last month, the president called on all employees of Wagner and other Russian private military contractors to swear allegiance to the Russian state.

Natia Seskuria of the Royal United Services Institute, a think tank in London, told the BBC that the meeting and public praise for Mr. Putin was an attempt to show โ€œthat he is in charge about the situation and he is in control of Prigozhin’s inner circle.โ€

โ€œThe fact that a Kremlin spokesman confirmed that Troshev worked for the Russian Ministry of Defense proves that we are in the post-Progozhin era, where the MOD has full control over so-called special military operations,โ€ she said. in Ukraine”.

The Kremlin “will continue to rely on Wagner’s resources more cautiously,” she added.

Mr. Troshev is known by the pen name Sedoi, which means “white-haired man.” He is a respected veteran of Russia’s wars in Afghanistan and Chechnya.

He received the Hero of Russia award for his role in supporting government forces in Syria in 2015 and 2016 as Commander Wagner.

Prigozhin and nine other people died in an accident near Moscow on August 23.

Wagner’s boss was described by many as a “walking zombie” after the failed mutiny.

The Kremlin has denied any involvement. On Thursday, Moscow announced a 68% increase in its defense budget as the war in Ukraine continued.

The military budget will reach 10.8 trillion rubles (ยฃ90 billion) by 2024, or 6% of GDP.

  • Former South African Airways bigwig faces corruption charge

The former South African Airways board chair has been detained and is facing corruption charges in court.

The corporation Bosasa is suspected of providing Dudu Myeni with bribes, including home security enhancements.

Throughout Jacob Zuma’s administration, it has been connected to multiple corrupt transactions.

Bosasa received government contracts of more than $100 million (ยฃ82 million) last year, according to a Commission of Inquiry, which found that Ms Myeni had pressured Mr. Zuma to promote the company.

Trevor Mathenjwa, a director of a Bosasa subsidiary, was also accused of wrongdoing. They were both granted bail and are scheduled to appear in court once more in November.

  • Car workers’ strike getting worse as third week draws near

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union is expanding its strike to include some of America’s largest automakers, extending a dispute over wages and benefits into a third week.

Union boss Shawn Fain said an additional 7,000 workers at Ford and General Motors plants would be laid off.

The latest action, not aimed at Stellantis, reflects the new dynamic in those negotiations, he said.

About 18,000 workers went on strike in a dispute that darkened the US economy.

US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, who is running for re-election, both visited the Detroit area this week to address the issue, which comes amid rising labor tensions across country. The union has begun negotiations to achieve a pay increase of about 40% over four years and end practices that give new recruits lower wages and fewer benefits, among other demands.

Companies say union demands will harm their ability to invest long-term. They responded with a salary increase of about 20% and a few other concessions.

On the picket line in Michigan this week, many workers said they were prepared for a long struggle.

โ€œPeople are fed up. “We want a middle class,” said Emily Yettaw, who worked at GM for 17 years. “They make billions of dollars in profits and we deserve better.”
The union, which represents 146,000 workers at the three companies, has gradually increased pressure on the automakers to reach an agreement since the labor contract expired on September 14.

The latest action extends shutdowns for a Ford plant in Chicago that makes Explorers and a GM plant in Michigan that makes large crossover SUVs like the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave.

The alliance’s previous targets included 38 parts distribution facilities for dealers and three factories – one at each company.

Although limited, the standoff caused an estimated $1.6 billion (ยฃ1.3 billion) in economic losses in its first week, including losses of more than $100 million (ยฃ81 million) UK) in terms of income and wages โ€“ a cost that weighs heavily on the local economy. Jennifer Romero is the owner of Karma Coffee & Kitchen in Wayne, Michigan. His store, with leaflets advertising support for the strike, was located just down the street from a closed Ford plant. Jennifer said sales at her store have slowed significantly.

โ€œOur neighborhood is predominantly blue-collar,โ€ she said. โ€œIf they don’t work, they don’t spend money and if they don’t spend money, we don’t make money.โ€

For automakers, which face high investment costs and fierce competition as the industry ramps up production of electric cars, the timing of the conflict โ€œcouldn’t be worse,โ€ said Dan Ives, Wall Street analyst, Wedbush Securities.

โ€œThe trajectory of the UAW incident was akin to witnessing a slow-moving automobile accident occurring on black ice,โ€ he wrote in a memo Friday.

โ€œThis is a decisive moment for Detroit and the future of the auto industry, as we firmly believe that if GM, Ford and Stellantis agree to anything close to the proposed deal, the future looks bleak. protein for the US auto industry.โ€

Now, workers on the picket lines in the Detroit area this week say they remain committed to the fight, even though many will lose income by only receiving $500 (ยฃ410) in strike pay each month. week.

โ€œIt’s time for ramen and macaroni and cheese,โ€ the GM employee in Ypsilanti joked. โ€œNo more red lobsters.โ€

โ€œI don’t think anyone is scared here,โ€ added Kemi Hooker, 53, who has worked for GM for 24 years. โ€œWe will do what is necessary.โ€

  • US likely to have government shutdown

The United States moved closer to a government shutdown on Friday as prospects for a short-term funding deal darkened.

Congress has until midnight Saturday to pass a new budget before thousands of federal workers are placed on unpaid leave.

The Senate moved ahead with the proposed interim funding agreement, which House Republicans opposed.

The two houses of Congress are controlled by different parties.

The Republican-led House will vote on its own short-term spending bill on Friday. Their plan would extend funding through the end of October, but it calls for deep spending cuts that would make it unacceptable to Democrats, who run the Senate.

The conflicting House and Senate funding plans have raised the possibility of a shutdown and highlighted deep divisions within the Republican Party, with some lawmakers expressing exasperation with conservatives hardliners, who have so far blocked a financial deal.

For example, California Republican Mike Garcia told Reuters he felt โ€œdisappointedโ€ as the shutdown approached.

โ€œWe are not in a good position for negotiations with the Senate,โ€ he said.

The Senate overwhelmingly passed a procedural vote on a short-term funding bill that had bipartisan support in the House. The bill would avoid a government shutdown until November 17, giving Congress more time to reach a long-term budget deal.

But for the bill to become law, it needs to pass the House, where at least nine hard-line members of Mr. McCarthy’s narrow Republican majority have refused to support the temporary measure.

That group has repeatedly threatened to remove Mr. McCarthy as House Speaker if he relied on Democratic votes to overcome their opposition and pass the funding bill without them.

Mr. McCarthy previously said he had no plans to bring the Senate bill to the House.

โ€œI think the President is making a choice between the presidency and American interests,โ€ President Joe Biden said Wednesday. โ€œThis is not an unsolvable puzzle,โ€ Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said. โ€œPresident McCarthy must stop letting Maga radicals dictate his decisions.โ€

Mr. McCarthy did not commit to bringing the Senate short-term funding bill to the House, but said a shutdown could be avoided if Democrats better addressed border security in the bill.

โ€œWe’re trying to see if we can get border provisions into the current Senate bill to really improve things,โ€ he told reporters on Thursday.

“This morning I talked to a number of Democratic senators who are more sympathetic to what we want to do. They want to do something about the border issue.”

He later added that he had spoken with Mr. Biden about establishing a national commission to study the national debt and find ways to reduce it.

Biden’s top aide, chief of staff Jeff Zients, told NPR News that the White House is preparing for the possibility of a last-minute deal on Saturday. But he added that Mr. Biden has no plans to meet privately with Mr. McCarthy.

“There is no need for a meeting at this time. The meeting that needs to happen is in the House of Representatives, where House Republicans meet and fund the government.”

In recent months, Mr. McCarthy has noticed a growing ideological divide between moderates and the right in his caucus.

This right wing has only a handful of members, but in a chamber where Republicans control just nine seats, they wield disproportionate power in the debates.
Fiercely opposed to anything resembling the status quo in Washington, they demand the party respect spending cuts and what they call conservative priorities. That means Mr. McCarthy may have to turn to the opposition party to bail him out and support a short-term spending bill.

Working with Democrats is virtually guaranteed to trigger the so-called nullification movement, the first step in forcing a vote to remove him as president.

Economists also warned that a government shutdown could harm the US economy, with Moody’s warning that it could harm the US credit rating and “underscore the weakness lack of US institutional strength and governance”.

  • Pakistan: Mastung blast leaves at least 50 dead and several injured

Police say at least 50 people were killed and more than 50 injured in a suicide bombing in Pakistan.

The explosion occurred on Friday near a mosque in the country’s southwestern province of Balochistan, as people gathered to celebrate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.

The Balochistan government has declared a state of emergency. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, another explosion occurred at a mosque near the city of Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Footage from the scene in Baloch town of Mastung showed injured people being rescued by rescue workers and residents.

โ€œThe bodies were lying on top of each other,โ€ said Saifullah, a local journalist in his 40s.

“The crowd was waiting for the [celebratory] procession to start. I was nearby when the bomb exploded,” he said, adding that 10 to 12 of his relatives were killed.

Haibullah, 22, was injured in the attack. Speaking to the BBC from his hospital bed in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, he said:
โ€œEverything was ready on stage, the bomb exploded just two minutes after I arrived.

“Everyone was shocked. I broke my leg.”

Sarfaraz Ahmed Sasoli, in his 20s, was a security member of the procession. He said the bomber approached the area as religious leaders were gathering. “My older and younger brothers were all injured, as were my friends. Everyone in our area had an injured brother, father or son,” he said.

Local hospitals were overwhelmed by the number of victims, and local authorities called for blood donations on social media.

Balochistan Police Chief Abdul Khaliq Sheikh confirmed that it was a suicide blast. He said a senior police officer was killed while trying to arrest the attacker. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti said the blast was a “very heinous act” and condemned what he called “terrorist attacks” in both areas.
Separately, a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police spokesman said two suicide bombers and a vehicle packed with explosives were stopped. He said one of the suicide bombers was “neutralized at the gate” while trying to enter the mosque, located within the police precinct in Hangu town.

The number of casualties at the Hangu mosque is unknown, but police said some people may be trapped under rubble after the roof collapsed.

Bordering Afghanistan and Iran, Balochistan is Pakistan’s largest province and is frequently attacked by armed militants, including the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), or Pakistani Taliban, and the Islamic State group. Earlier this month, at least 11 people – including a prominent Muslim leader – were injured in an explosion in the same neighborhood.

However, the TTP denied any involvement in Friday’s blast, saying in a statement that such an attack was against its policy. The group also “vehemently condemned” the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attack, saying “mosques, schools and public gatherings do not belong together”. among our goals.โ€

Pakistan’s Acting Information Minister, Murtaza Solangi, wrote about having “nothing to do with any religion”. ideology and ethics.

The State of Pakistan celebrates the birth of Prophet Muhammad on the 12th day of the third month of the Islamic calendar.

There was a public holiday, which began with gun salutes in Islamabad and provincial capitals, and public spaces were decorated with colorful lights. Scholars from almost all schools of thought agree on commemorating this day. Processions take place, many of them organized by the Barelvi Sunni school of thought to which the majority in Pakistan adhere.

However, some religious movements disagree with the organization of the procession, saying there is no evidence

  • Sweden gangs: Army to assist police following spike in homicides

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced that the Swedish army is stepping in to support police in the fight against a recent surge of gang killings.

He said starting next week, the military will begin providing analytical and logistical support, as well as explosives disposal and forensic work.

Mr Kristersson added that Swedish law also needed to be updated to allow for greater military involvement.

So far this month, 12 people have died in gang violence in the country.

This is the highest number since December 2019, according to Dagens Nyheter newspaper. On Wednesday night alone, two young men were shot dead in Stockholm and a woman – who police said had no links to organized crime – was killed in an explosion at her home about 10 miles from the capital. 50 miles north.

The 24-year-old woman, named by local media as Soha Saad, was a newly qualified teacher and believed to be a neighbor of the blast target.

Kristersson made the announcement after crisis talks on Friday with Swedish army chief Micael Biden, police chief Anders Thornberg and Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer.

He added that the government would ask the military to support the police “in case the specialized skills of the armed forces could be useful”.

โ€œIt could be a few things:
explosives and helicopter logistics support, analytical skillsโ€ฆ Computer forensic analysis.

The Prime Minister added that the country’s current laws need to be changed to deal with “gray zone situations where it is unclear what type of threat Sweden faces”.
Swedish media have linked the recent increase in deaths to a conflict involving a gang known as the Foxtrot network, which has been rocked by infighting and split into two rival factions. enemy.

On Thursday, Kristersson said Sweden had never seen anything like it before and “no other country in Europe” had encountered this situation.

Children and innocent bystanders are increasingly becoming victims of this violence, he emphasized.

Last year, more than 60 people died in shootings in Sweden – the highest number ever recorded – and this year the toll looks set to be even greater, if not worse. An official government report released in 2021 indicated that 4 people per million die in shootings in Sweden each year, compared with 1.6 people per million in Europe.

Police say the violence is linked to poor integration of immigrants, the growing gap between rich and poor and drug use.

Mr. Kristersson’s centre-right minority government, which came to power last year with the support of the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats, has so far failed to stop the violence.

He pledged to move towards stricter surveillance, tougher penalties for breaches of gun laws, stronger deportation powers and stop and search zones โ€“ with an emphasis on the fact that ” Everything has been considered.”

Some critics argue that these measures do not address underlying social problems such as child poverty and underfunding of community services.

  • Man detained in connection with 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur

Las Vegas police have reportedly apprehended an individual linked to the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, a case that has remained unsolved for nearly three decades.

The renowned hip-hop artist was fatally shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas back in 1996, with the identity of his assailant remaining a longstanding mystery.

Sources, speaking to AP news agency, revealed that a man was arrested on Friday morning in connection with Shakur’s death.

Tupac Shakur was tragically only 25 years old at the time of his passing, which occurred on September 13, 1996, following the drive-by shooting while he was waiting at a red light.

ABC News, in a separate report, quoted a senior law enforcement official confirming the arrest of a suspect related to Shakur’s murder and the intention to announce charges on Friday afternoon.

This development follows a July search by Las Vegas police of a residence belonging to an alleged gang member in connection with Shakur’s homicide.

The rapper, known by his stage name 2Pac, released his debut album in 1991 and achieved immense acclaim in hip-hop. He sold over 75 million records worldwide, delivering chart-topping hits such as “California Love,” “All Eyez On Me,” and “Changes.”

In June of the current year, Tupac Shakur received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

  • Russians sneak to watch Barbie movie after Putin said ‘ No way’

Russian audiences are flocking to see a pirated version of the Barbie movie – despite an official warning that the Hollywood blockbuster is “incompatible” with President Vladimir Putin‘s goal of “preserving and strengthening rule Russia“.

Audiences are proving their credibility by attending unofficial screenings of the film, which was released on big screens despite Western sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine.

Pirated versions of Greta Gerwig’s film inspired by the iconic Mattel doll, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, were uncredited and dubbed into Russian.

According to the report, to avoid licensing issues, some cinemas have been selling tickets to Russian-made short films – showing Barbie as “free previews”.

The BBC revealed that at a Moscow shopping center where the film was being screened nearby, fans were amused by a huge fuchsia house, complete with matching furniture, corn and life-size cardboard cutouts of Barbie and Ken. One fan said:
โ€œPeople should have the right to choose what they watch. I think it’s good that Russian cinemas can show us these films.

Film critic Anton Dolin, former editor-in-chief of Iskusstvo Kino, one of Russia’s oldest and most famous film magazines, told the Guardian that the demand for unofficial screenings reflects people’s anti-war sentiment. Russia.

Dolin, who fled the country after being targeted by pro-war ultranationalists and now lives in Latvia, said Hollywood’s boycott of Russia is an example of the privilege it once had. enjoyed but now has been deprived.

โ€œThey consider watching Hollywood movies a right,โ€ he told the newspaper.

But Russian MP Maria Butina is not a fan of the film or the doll that inspired it.
โ€œI have a problem with Barbie being a female form. Some girls – especially in their teens – try to look like a Barbie girl and exhaust their bodies.

The film has not been licensed to be shown in Russia, she said, warning:
‘Don’t break the law. โ€œI have repeatedly asked theaters to ask on what basis they show movies.โ€

As a result, Barbie screenings are extremely secretive, with no marketing or advertising involved.

The only way to know where movies are showing is through social media or word of mouth.

A 17-year-old man risked angering the Russian government by bringing Barbie to the big screen in the city of Perm.

In an interview with the Financial Times, he said he spent more than $3,000 (nearly ยฃ2,500) to obtain a pirated copy, hired a Russian dubbing company and set up a marketing campaign.

‘Real Barbie’ models clothes, cars and ‘Dream Houses’ on iconic doll
He also hired a designer to create a life-sized Barbie box, now synonymous with movie screenings.

He and a friend rented a theater screen and showed a pirated copy of Barbie to 50 test audiences. He say:
โ€œThe demand is incredible. People lose their minds when buying tickets. A lot of people want to see Barbie.

  • Funeral tourism agenda is trash and senseless – Bullgod

ย Ghanaian artiste manager and entertainment critic, Bullgod, has strongly criticized the Creative Arts ministry’s funeral tourism initiative.

In an interview on TV3, Bullgod expressed his disapproval of the Tourism and Creative Arts minister, Dr. Mohammed Awal’s efforts to use funerals as a means to boost the economy. He went so far as to label the minister’s intentions as “trash.” This criticism highlights the ongoing debate and diverse opinions within the creative arts and entertainment industry regarding the government’s approach to leveraging cultural events like funerals for economic development.

“Even the tourism bit. What are they doing? Recently, we just saw the minister. What’s the man’s name? Mohammed. Talking trash. Do you know the purpose of funerals? Do you know why we do a three-day funeral? Then this minister says we should go and watch what? Kakum National Park?

โ€œIt is trash. It is senseless. We should be able to tell them all these things. The minister that spoke. We pay his transport. We pay his fuel, wherever he sleeps, we pay that, even the clothes on his back. That is not the time to go for an excursion. It’s a very dumb idea,โ€ he fumed.

Bullgod also yelled at the National Commission on Culture’s Director of Creative Arts, Socrates Safo, for uncritically endorsing the notion.

โ€œYou know, I don’t understand what Socrates is still doing for the party. You know, there are times in life that you see stuff and you need to say it as it is. You don’t become a slave for something that you know isn’t the truth,โ€ he averred.

A popular artiste manager has joined the list of celebrities who oppose the idea.

It has been opposed by Kennedy Agyapong, Afia Schwarzenegger, DKB, Victoria Lebene, and others.

    Background

Earlier in an interview with UTV, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, said Ghanaians love funerals, and as such, it is a space for providing an opportunity for patrons to discover the various attractions scattered across the 16 regions of Ghana.

โ€œGhanaians love funerals and it is fertile ground for tourism. When there are funerals, people gather at places. What we want to do with the Ghana Tourism Authority, GTA, is that whenever there are funerals, weโ€™ll also find tourist attractions in those areas where the funerals occur so that when they finish, [we can] bus those who attend the funerals to key tourist sites. Weโ€™re going to serve a lot of Ghanaian dishes at the funerals, Ghanaian drinks, sobolo [hibiscus tea] and co,โ€ he said during an interview with UTV.

His statements have since caught the attention of countless netizens and have triggered discussions on social media.

  • Bullet saved me from occultism – Wendy Shay

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Wendy Shay has candidly shared insights into her music career journey and a potentially life-altering encounter with occultism. She revealed that her path might have led her into the world of occultism if not for her fortuitous meeting with her current manager, Bullet.

During an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz-FM on September 28, the “Heaven” hit-maker shared her experiences. She revealed that, upon returning from Germany, she had begun searching for a higher power.

“Around 2020/2021, I wanted to find spirituality for myself,” Wendy Shay explained.

When questioned about whether she delved into occultism as part of her spiritual exploration, she clarified that she “didn’t really go too deep” into it.

Instead, she had been in contact with her grandfather, who had expertise in such practices before meeting her current manager, Bullet.

“I wanted to start practicing those things, but then I met Bullet right when I really wanted to get deep into those things,” Wendy Shay added.

Before signing Wendy Shay to Rufftown Records as an artist, Bullet allegedly suggested that she go to church with him. He explained that she needed to align herself with his power, which he identified as the light of Jesus Christ, in order for her star to shine.

“He told me he follows the light, and the light is Jesus Christ, and for me to be in alignment with him, I had to go to church with him.”

Wendy Shay admitted that initially, she attended church with Bullet for the sake of being signed as an artist. However, she had a encounter during one of these church visits when “the Holy Ghost just arrested me.”

She continued by saying that the difficulties she encountered in her personal life and in the music business led her to settle on Christianity in her search for spirituality.

โ€œBecause of the things I had faced in my life and in the industry. It opened my eyes to the spirituality of this world, we all know how crazy the industry is, there are so many dark forces here. So I knew I had to find protection, and that was God,โ€ she said.

  • Rare DNA found in 6-million-year-old sea turtle fossil

DNA traces have been discovered in the fossilized remains of a sea turtle dating back 6 million years ago.

Researchers say sea turtles are closely related to olive ridley turtles and modern-day turtles, marking one of the few times genetic material has been identified in ancient vertebrate fossils live like that, researchers said THURSDAY.

Some bone cells, called osteocytes, are perfectly preserved in fossils discovered along the Caribbean coast of Panama in 2015, researchers say.

The fossil is only partial, with a relatively complete shell โ€“ the turtle’s shell โ€“ but not the rest of the skeleton. They said the turtle could have been about 30cm long when alive. In some bone cells, the cell nucleus was preserved and reacted with a chemical solution, allowing researchers to recognize the presence of DNA remnants, said paleontologist Edwin Cadena, lead author. , a molecule that carries genetic information necessary for the development and functioning of an organism. . of the study published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.

Cadena, from the Universidad del Rosario in Bogota and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, added: โ€œI want to emphasize that we did not extract DNA, we were only able to recognize the presence of traces of DNA in the seeds core”.

View shows a turtle fossil, in Bogota, Colombia, in this photo taken in 2022.

DNA is quite susceptible to damage, although under the right conditions it has been preserved in some ancient sites.

Last year, researchers reported the discovery of DNA from animals, plants and bacteria dating to about 2 million years ago in sediments in the northernmost region of Greenland.

Cadena said the only vertebrate fossils older than the newly described turtle found with similar DNA traces belong to two dinosaurs: Tyrannosaurus, which lived about 66 million years ago, and Brachylophosaurus, which lived about 78 million years ago. DNA traces have also been reported in insects dating back tens of millions of years, Cadena said.

The turtle belongs to the same genus โ€“ Lepidochelys โ€“ as two of the world’s seven living sea turtle species โ€“ the Kemp’s ridley, the world’s smallest sea turtle, and the olive ridley, Cadena said.

  • Russian hyper-sonic Russian fighter jet ‘downed by own air defense’

One of Vladimir Putin‘s ยฃ82m Su-35 supersonic fighter jets said to have been shot down by Russia’s S-300 air defense system on Thursday evening.

Footage shows a plane being hit by a missile before exploding over Tokmak in the Zaporizhzhia region.

An orange fireball and a trail of smoke could be seen in the sky behind the jet as it crashed towards the ground.

Pro-war channels admitted that the incident involved a single-pilot cockpit aircraft.

Russian aviation blogger Z Fighterbomber posted a photo of the Su-35 with the message:
    โ€œEternal flight, brother.

This message was actually seen as an admission of the loss of aircraft at the hands of his army. The Russian fighter plane was shot down in friendly fire

There is currently no official confirmation from Russian authorities, but Ukraine’s Crimean Wind channel posted:
    โ€œRussian air defense against Russian Su-35 1:
    0.

โ€œRussian soldiers used S-300 missiles to shoot down their plane near Tokmak.

โ€œWork, my brothers! Do not stop!’

The blue strike, if confirmed, would be Putin’s latest setback after his forces suffered repeated attacks from Ukraine.

Among these attacks was a missile attack on the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet last week.

At least 34 people were killed and more than 100 injured, among the dead were high-ranking Russian commanders.

Russia has lost about 90 aircraft since the start of the war against Ukraine, according to an assessment by the British Ministry of Defense before the latest incident.

The “viability” of the long-term tactical air power of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) is likely to decline as the war continues, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

    One report said:
โ€œThe Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) have lost about 90 aircraft in combat since February 2022. โ€œHe also flew some of his warplanes with much more intensity than in peacetime.โ€

  • I do not give room for ‘drama’ – Mr. Drew

Mr. Drew has responded to the recent controversies surrounding his new song, ‘Case.’

Just a few days ago, Kwami Eugene came forward, asserting that he had contributed significantly to Mr. Drew’s latest hit, claiming to have written approximately 80% of the song. Eugene expressed his discontent over not receiving due credit for his substantial involvement in the song during an interview with Naana Donkor, a Ghanaian blogger based in the United States. The situation appears to have sparked a public discussion and debate about the song’s authorship and credit attribution.

“I wrote the entire hook and some part of the second verse. I wrote like 80 percent of that song. In fact, before he came to record the song, that hook and everything were already done, he listened to it and sang it.

“All I heard from him was like bro, the song, make we drop and that was when I was in America.

“That was when he texted to ask if we should drop the song but because of the time difference, I was asleep and when I woke up, he didnโ€™t inform my manager or anything, and the second person who was around when we recorded the song texted me later to inform me he (Drew) had dropped the song. I texted him (Drew) to ask and he left me on read,” he recounted.

When interacting with his fans on TikTok, Mr. Drew was forced to share his thoughts on the issue.

After initially declining to speak, he later stated that he would not entertain such ‘drama’.

โ€œCleanse your mind. Focus on good things. All this drama that is being shared by blogs, I donโ€™t follow them. So, my fans donโ€™t follow them. Feed yourself with positivity. When itโ€™s time for vawulence, we will give vawulence, but for now, letโ€™s do the good stuff.

โ€œI actually have nothing to say. All I can say is that go and stream the song thatโ€™s all. You badly want to know whatโ€™s going on. Use that same energy to stream the song. You all get too excited when stuff like this happens but it doesnโ€™t help the work.โ€

Mr. Drew earlier acknowledged Kuami Eugene

Earlier, during a media tour after shortly releasing โ€˜Caseโ€™, Mr. Drew, during a discussion with TV3โ€™s โ€˜Cookie Teeโ€™ and Naa Ashorkor, admitted that Kuami Eugene wrote parts of the song.

โ€œI wrote this song with Kuami Eugene. We both wrote it although he was not going to feature on it. At that time, the Rotimi thing was happening. Instead of releasing this song at that time, I released Later featuring Kelvynbwoy.

  • 15-year-old girl ‘gang-raped, killed, and dumped in 50-foot-deep well in India

A teenage girl reported missing by her grandfather was gang-raped and murdered in India, police said.

A 10th grade student was allegedly kidnapped by three people last Saturday.

She was later found abandoned in a 15-meter deep well in Ramgarh Shekhawati area, Sikar town, northwest India.

His body was discovered less than 24 hours after being kidnapped.

Sikar police arrested two adults and a 15-year-old boy, who is believed to be the main suspect. Police confirmed that the 15-year-old boy had been arrested and that his two accomplices, Sameer and Ghulam, both 19 years old, had also been arrested and were being questioned by police.

One image shows the heartbreaking moment authorities found the girl as they pulled her body out of the well using a rope.

The girl’s grandfather rushed to Ramgarh Sethan police station on Sunday to report his granddaughter’s disappearance.

Police launched a search operation to find her and discovered her body on Sunday afternoon.

As per the family’s wishes, the last rites were held at Jasrasar village in Sardarseher.

The girl is from Churu district in India but lived with her grandparents while studying in Lavanda.

    An official told local media:
โ€œDue to concerns about rape and murder, relevant sections of law were added to the case and further investigation was initiated after the body of the deceased minor was identified.โ€

Police said CCTV footage confirmed the identities of the suspects. A police spokesman said:
โ€œCCTV footage installed along the road leading to the victim’s home was reviewed and the suspects were seen approaching and leaving the victim’s residence.

โ€œThe identification was confirmed by CCTV footage of the suspects involved. One of the suspects also suffered injuries to his hand.

The girl’s family members staged a massive protest on Sunday to demand quick action, harsh punishments and compensation.

Protesters also demanded compensation for the victim’s family.

Recent violence against women and girls in India has sparked nationwide protests. This month, a 14-year-old girl was gang-raped before being burned alive in an oven.

Earlier this year, two women were said to have paraded naked in Manipur and were then sexually assaulted by a mob.

According to reports, Andam died while courageously defending a friend from a knife-wielding suitor who unexpectedly produced the weapon.

This sorrowful event unfolded on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, in Croydon, London, United Kingdom.

Elianne Andam, the victim in this tragic incident, was a student at the Old Palace of John Whitgift School. It is worth noting that she had Ghanaian heritage, with her father originating from Northern Ghana.

In this article, we aim to provide comprehensive information regarding the unfortunate passing of Elianne Andam in Croydon.

Elianne Andam’s parents are her mother, a dedicated British NHS nurse, and her father, who hails from Ghana.

According to a report by MailOnline, the incident unfolded on the number 60 bus, outside the Whitgift Shopping Centre, near East Croydon station on a Wednesday morning.

Elianne Andam and her friend were passengers on the bus when the assailant, a 17-year-old who was once romantically involved with Andam’s friend, boarded and presented her with a love letter and flowers. Tragically, she declined this gesture of affection, which seemed to enrage the assailant.

The attacker emerged from the bus brandishing a frightening “sword-like” zombie knife. Elianne Andam, displaying incredible bravery, stepped in to shield her friend. Regrettably, she suffered fatal stab wounds to her neck and chest, and despite the frantic efforts of onlookers and emergency services, she tragically lost her life on the pavement.

โ€œHe gave her the flowers and she threw them away. Her friends all dispersed when she went down. After that, the boy apparently stabbed her, blood gushing out and the police put pressure on it. She died on the spot,โ€ a witness described the carnage.

The family of Elianne Andam in Croydon released a statement following the death of the 15-year-old.

โ€œOur hearts are broken by the senseless death of our daughter. Elianne was the light of our lives. She was bright and funny, with many friends who all adored her,โ€ the statement began.

โ€œShe was only 15, and had her whole life ahead of her, with hopes and dreams for the future. All those dreams have now been shattered. Our lives have fallen apart, along with those of our wider family.

โ€œWe ask the media to please respect our privacy as we try to grieve the short life of our beautiful child.โ€

Elianne Andam was a student of the Old Palace of John Whitgift School, where she was studying hard to fulfill her dream of being a lawyer โ€“ her aunt Marian told MailOnline at her motherโ€™s Croydon residence.

โ€œYou just canโ€™t comprehend the heartbreak of the last 24 hoursโ€”how Elianne went to school and never came home,โ€ Marian said.

โ€˜She wanted to be a lawyer; she went to a private school paid for by my sister, and she had a great future ahead of her. She was a lovely girl, she loved doing her hair; she had beautiful natural hair, and she really loved gymnastics.

โ€˜Weโ€™re a big family, and we are all here for our sister to support her. This has left us absolutely devastated. My sister is not feeling good, this only happened yesterday. It hasnโ€™t sunk in yet, itโ€™s a tragedy.โ€™

More than 40 bunches of flowers were laid close to where Andam was stabbed to death.

One card said: โ€˜Rest in peace angel condolences to your family at this very sad time.โ€™

Another said: โ€˜Rest in peace little princess so sad your life is taken away at your prime. You have touched my soul.โ€™

It is scheduled for October 3 and will see Vladimir Putin‘s regime brand the West as a nuclear aggressor.

This one-day nuclear attack exercise, which will be conducted only on a region-by-area basis, will include preparations for the destruction of up to 70 percent of the country’s construction and life support facilities. Russia.

This would assume a scenario whereby martial law is imposed in Russia and full force must be mobilized.

The test script has the following content:
โ€œIn some constituent [regions] of the Russian Federation, due to emergencies or other types of physical impacts, it is possible to completely destroy life support facilities and up to 70% of the housing stock live.” It contemplates โ€œaccidents occurring in structures and hydraulic systems with chemical and radiological hazardsโ€ leading to โ€œsecondary hazardsโ€.

Details of the drills emerged as Mikhail Kovalchuk, Putin’s friend and director of the Kurchatov Institute, demanded the resumption of nuclear weapons testing in the Arctic for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

He called on Western leaders to deliver a shock similar to when the Soviet Union tested the Tsar bomb in 1961, the most powerful bomb ever designed with a yield of more than 50 megatons.

โ€œI think it’s a good idea,โ€ said the 77-year-old, who is part of a group of older, longtime friends around Putin.

  • Manifest raps better than Sarkodieโ€“Samini

Reggae-Dancehall artiste Samini recently shared his opinion that he considers M.anifest to be a superior rapper compared to Sarkodie. This statement, made during an interview on TV3’s “Day Show” program hosted by Bella Mundi, has ignited discussions among fans of both rappers.

Samini elaborated on his preference by emphasizing that, in his view, M.anifest is a better rapper who delivers deeper and more meaningful lyrics in his music. This perspective on the two prominent Ghanaian rappers has generated diverse reactions and debates within the music community and among fans of Sarkodie and M.anifest.

โ€œI think heโ€™s a better rapper and he has better lyrics, he has deeper lyrics. No disrespect to Sarkodie, but those two rappers, Manifest is in a different league.โ€

Samini made it clear that his preference for M.anifest over Sarkodie in terms of rap skills was unrelated to his ongoing dispute with Sarkodie, which has recently garnered media attention.

It’s worth noting that Sarkodie and M.anifest engaged in a rap battle a few years ago to determine who was the best rapper in Ghana. This rap feud began when Sarkodie released his track “Bossy,” in which he declared himself the greatest rapper. M.anifest disagreed and responded with his song “god MC,” which contained lyrics that questioned Sarkodie’s claim.

Sarkodie countered with another song, “Kanta,” in which he challenged both M.anifest’s rap supremacy and his fashion sense. This exchange of diss tracks between the two rappers became a significant moment in Ghana’s hip-hop history.

Both Sarkodie and M.anifest have been recognized as exceptional rappers, accumulating numerous accolades and achieving significant success in the Ghanaian and African rap music scenes, and their rivalry has added to the vibrancy of the country’s hip-hop culture.

  • World Heart Day 2023 – Ways to reduce risks of stroke and heart diseases

On every 29th of September, the world unites to observe World Heart Day, a dedicated day for raising awareness about cardiovascular health and celebrating the remarkable organ that tirelessly keeps us alive โ€“ the heart. This is an opportunity to reflect on how we can prioritize our heart health and take actions to reduce the risks of heart diseases, heart attacks, and strokes. Here are some key habits that empower individuals to become guardians of their cardiovascular well-being:

    1. Stop Tobacco Use: The detrimental effects of smoking on the cardiovascular system are well-known. Nicotine and other harmful chemicals in tobacco can damage blood vessels and heart tissue, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke. Quitting smoking is a significant step towards improving heart health, and seeking support from friends, family, or support groups can make this journey more manageable.
    2. Exercise Regularly: Physical activity is fundamental for heart health. Regular exercise helps maintain a healthy weight, lowers blood pressure, improves cholesterol levels, and enhances the efficiency of the heart. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week, such as brisk walking, jogging, swimming, or cycling, and choose activities that you enjoy to make staying active a sustainable part of your lifestyle.
    3. Eat Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables: A diet rich in fruits and vegetables provides essential nutrients, fiber, and antioxidants that support heart health. These foods help lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and maintain a healthy weight. Incorporate a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables into your meals and consider plant-based options as a primary source of nutrition.
    4. Avoid Excessive Salt: High sodium intake is linked to hypertension, a major risk factor for heart disease. Be mindful of your salt consumption by avoiding highly processed foods that often contain hidden sodium. Instead, use herbs, spices, and other flavorings to enhance the taste of your meals. Opt for fresh, whole foods, and check food labels for sodium content to maintain healthy blood pressure levels.
    5. Limit Alcohol Consumption: While moderate alcohol consumption may have certain heart benefits, excessive drinking can have serious consequences for cardiovascular health. Limit alcohol intake to moderate levels, typically defined as up to one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men, and if possible, avoid it altogether.
    6. Reduce Sugar Intake: High sugar intake is associated with obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Consuming too much added sugar can contribute to weight gain and metabolic issues. Monitor your sugar intake by reading food labels and choosing foods and beverages with lower sugar content. Opt for natural sweeteners like honey or fruits when you have a sweet craving, as this small adjustment can significantly impact your heart health over time.

By incorporating these lifestyle changes, you not only commemorate World Heart Day but also invest in a healthier and happier future for your heart. Remember that small, sustainable changes in your daily routine can make a significant difference in reducing the risk of heart diseases, heart attacks, and strokes.

  • Syria’s drug crisis overshadows Assad’s recovery

Nearly five months after Arab nations offered an olive branch to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, there are signs that some of the initiative’s key architects may be increasingly skeptical about his commitment to the deal.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi said this week that trafficking of the amphetamine Captagon from Syria to Jordan only increased after normalization talks led to Assad’s return to the Arab League. in May.

Syria was expelled from the Arab League in 2011, following a brutal regime crackdown on opposition forces seeking to overthrow Assad.

Jordan has been one of the biggest supporters of his rehabilitation, having been one of the main victims of Syria’s drug trade, but now feels the regime is unwilling or unable to calm down. suppress this trade.

โ€œJordan is fighting on the border to make sure drugs do not enter the country,โ€ Al-Monitor quoted the king as saying last week. “Bashar (al-Assad) doesn’t want conflict with Jordanโ€ฆ I don’t know if he’s in complete control.”

One of the Arab states’ main demands of Syria in exchange for its recovery was that Assad help stop the trade in Captagon. Most of the global supply for the $57 billion Captagon industry is believed to come from Syria, with neighboring countries and the Gulf region being the main destinations.

This trade turned Syria into a narco-state that allowed the Assad regime to replenish its coffers after years of war and sanctions, and gave it enormous leverage over the neighboring countries and was partly responsible for bringing them to the negotiating table with Assad.

In another sign of Arab discontent with Assad, Saudi Arabia’s Asharq al-Awsat newspaper reported this month that the Arab ministerial committee responsible for overseeing the normalization of Syria- The Arabs suspended meetings with Damascus due to lack of response to the developed roadmap. normalization of Arab-Syrian relations.

However, Arab League Deputy Secretary General Hossam Zaki denied this information. โ€œThey are not real,โ€ Zaki told CNN on Friday.

Emile Hokayem, director of regional security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London, said it was not surprising that Syria’s reintegration efforts were facing setbacks.

โ€œNothing significant was achieved while Assad achieved a symbolic victory that limited Arab participation for years to come,โ€ Hokayem told CNN, adding that it was difficult to see how the May decision โ€œcould be overturned and how the stick could be used to force them to comply.โ€ .

In an interview with Sky News Arabia last month, the Syrian leader sounded confident and said he would not rush to reconcile with his neighbors until they changed. He blamed the lack of progress in normalizing relations with Arab countries on poor Arab politics. Arabs, he said, were good at โ€œopticsโ€ but not โ€œexecution.โ€

Assad said the drug trade had gotten worse after the war and therefore responsibility for Syria’s Captagon problem belonged to “the countries that contributed to the chaos in Syria, not not the Syrian state”. He added that it was Syria, not its Arab neighbors, that had offered to resolve the drug crisis because it was “win-win”.

Experts say that Syria’s recovery process has many shortcomings.

โ€œThe problem is that there really is no accountability mechanism for the normalization initiative,โ€ said HA Hellyer, a researcher at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

โ€œIf Assad simply ignored the demands of the Arab countries, even though he initially appeared to take them seriously, there would be no process to punish him,โ€ Hellyer told CNN. for any violation.โ€ โ€œIt’s all quite ad hoc and arbitrary.โ€

According to Jordan, the Captagon trade is booming as smugglers use increasingly advanced technology to smuggle amphetamines out of Syria and into neighboring countries. โ€œThe Syrians have promised to cooperate with us to resolve this challenge, but the situation on the ground remains extremely difficult,โ€ said Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi. โ€œWe are seeing an increase in activity and as a result we are doing what we need to do.โ€

Safadi describes the Captagon trafficking operation as a โ€œhighly organized operationโ€ in which drug traffickers โ€œhave access to very advanced technology,โ€ including drones and goggles night. For every two or three arrests, two or three more people cross the border, Safadi explained.

Jordan, which shares a 378 km border with Syria, views instability with its neighbor as detrimental to its national security.

Gulf states and Jordan regularly report drug seizures with large quantities of drugs found in everything from construction signs to baklava shipments. This month, the United Arab Emirates said it had foiled a plot to smuggle 13 tons of Captagon โ€“ worth more than $1 billion โ€“ hidden in a shipment of doors and building decorative panels. Jordanian armed forces regularly shoot down drones coming from Syria and carrying irritants.

Experts believe that the two parts of the Arab-Syrian normalization treaty did not meet people’s expectations. Assad may not have found a strong enough incentive to abandon his lucrative drug trade. And what he wants can be difficult to achieve. โ€œWhat Assad has always wanted is not what the Arab countries can or will offer:
unconditional political support, huge financial aid, as well as Arab pressure to lift Western sanctions,โ€ Hokayem said.

Arab countries are now at risk of falling into a state of deadlock.

โ€œTheir mobility is limited,โ€ Hokayem said. โ€œDirect and direct coercion is not an option and some countries do not care enough to devote effort and political capital to Syria,โ€ he said, adding that stubborn policies of Assad may even motivate โ€œsome countries.โ€

  • Homeless people in Paris relocated as France gets ready for Olympics

It’s 6:30 a.m., a late summer morning in Paris. Amid the noise emanating from the Stalingrad metro station, northeast of the French capital, hundreds of migrants, most of the men, slept huddled under a viaduct. Some lay on pieces of cardboard and old mattresses behind urine-soaked fences, others lay awake at the edge of the road.

There were rumors that a government bus was about to pick them up. Some waited impatiently, hoping that they would eventually be accommodated, most were confused and scared, fearing they would be forced to leave Paris. For months, the French government has been trying to speed up the transfer of homeless Parisians to other parts of the country, as part of a plan to relieve some of the pressure on emergency housing services. capital level. According to the government, each week, between 50 and 150 people are taken to one of 10 locations across France.

Despite the government denying any connection to the Olympics, which Paris will host in the summer of 2024, some NGOs and elected officials believe the Games are part of the reason. due to which this relocation plan was recently activated.

โ€œWe heard they were coming to take us today, but I don’t know where to go,โ€ Obsa, a 31-year-old Ethiopian political refugee, told CNN. He wishes to be identified under a pseudonym for fear of reprisals. Obsa made the dangerous journey to France in 2017, from Ethiopia to Sudan and Libya, then across the Mediterranean to Italy.

He now has a full-time job in Paris, but even after many years of living in the city, he still cannot find permanent housing, largely due to the extremely high cost of rent in the capital. capital and the supply of more affordable social housing is very limited. . . Obsa was considering emergency accommodation in a hotel, but claims she kicked him out after his wife went with him. โ€œThey simply refused. They said:
we don’t have room for your wife,โ€ he recalled.

Obsa is not the only one to have this experience. According to Paul Alauzy of Mรฉdecins Du Monde, an NGO that works with homeless migrants, as next year’s Olympics approach, Paris hotels have begun canceling emergency housing contracts with government to make room for the expected influx of tourists.

According to the Fรฉdรฉration des Acteurs Solidaires, which brings together local associations and charities, in 2022 around 50,000 homeless people were housed each night in hotels in Ile-de-France, where of Paris. This year, at least 5,000 previously vacant hotel spaces were cancelled, CNN affiliate BFMTV reported, which may partly explain why refugees like Obsa and his wife were pushed out into the street.

The Paris prefecture told CNN that the actual loss of emergency lodging was closer to 2,000 as the city sought alternatives to compensate for canceled hotel rooms. However, wasting hotel rooms is not the main problem facing homeless people in France. About half of the country’s homeless population is concentrated in Ile-de-France, where they have access to more charities, employment opportunities and more personal connections.

According to figures from the Ministry of Housing, of the more than 200,000 homeless people housed each night across the country, 100,000 are in Ile-de-France. Simply put, there is not enough emergency accommodation in Paris to accommodate everyone.

As Obsa spoke to CNN, dozens of French police approached and surrounded the area. Several large white buses parked and blocked the road. One of the buses carries the sign โ€œBordeauxโ€, another โ€œMarseilleโ€, the cities are located hundreds of kilometers from the capital.

Staff and volunteers from local humanitarian organizations and Paris police spoke to migrants who appeared distressed by what was happening.

Authorities informed the migrants over loudspeakers that they could board one of the buses to go to Marseille or Bordeaux, where they would be housed. Those wishing to stay in the capital are encouraged to demonstrate that they have a long-term employment contract. But even then, they will not be guaranteed a roof over their heads. Obsa, who works as an IT administrator, said: โ€œI can’t leave, I have a one-year labor contract. โ€œAt least I have to stay in Ile-de-France.โ€

In total, 1,800 homeless people, the majority of whom are migrants, have been displaced outside Paris since April, according to figures compiled by the Inter-Ministerial Delegation on Accommodation and Access to Housing (Dihal), the government in charge of national policy revealed to CNN. access to housing.

According to Dihal, about 10 regional temporary shelters, known as SAS, have been set up across the country to welcome new arrivals outside Paris. Each SAS can accommodate up to 50 people. โ€œAll of this comes at a critical time, where there is also a preparing for the Olympics”. immigrant’. with the reality of what is happening on the streets of Paris, which means continuing to leave the thousands of people who have arrived on our territory without any support.

In 2022, France received 155,773 asylum requests, according to the government. Interior Minister Gรฉrald Darmanin said in several television interviews that France would openly welcome political refugees, but its doors would remain closed to any migrants arriving in the country. are illegal and do not face repression in their homeland. According to government figures, in 2022 there will be nearly 20,000

Utopia 56’s Manzi thinks the resettlement effort could be a good idea in principle, but says the problem is that shelters in the area will only house people for three weeks, depending on which city responsible for hosting them and what happens after that is yet to be determined. . uncertain.

In SAS, some people get help finding housing and jobs for which they qualify, depending on their legal status, but this doesn’t work for everyone. โ€œOn average, 25 to 30 percent (of people) return to the streets,โ€ Manzi said. โ€œThey find themselves after these three weeks without any solution, and therefore on the sidewalk again.โ€

In Bordeaux, one of the cities chosen to host SAS, this number is up to 40%. โ€œThey are disappearing,โ€ Harmonie Lecerf-Meunier, deputy mayor of Bordeaux, told CNN. โ€œWe think they are returning to Paris.โ€

According to Dihal, in recent weeks the number of people leaving the SAS where they were posted has been around 17%.

Another problem is the lack of emergency accommodation in the areas where migrants are being transferred. โ€œSo people will find themselves on the streets again, but not in Paris. We take them out of Paris and put them on the streets in other placesโ€ฆ we just solve the problem, we don’t solve it,โ€ Brice said.

In a press release from May 2023, the government said that the Minister of Housing had โ€œasked counties to work on establishing these centers in conjunction with local elected officials and associations.โ€ . But the city halls of Lyon and Bordeaux, the two cities hosting the SAS, told CNN they were never consulted by the government. โ€œWe discovered it the day before,โ€ said Lecerf-Meunier in Bordeaux.

Similarly, Lyon deputy mayor Sandrine Runel told CNN that the government rushed to calm the situation in Paris and Ile-de-France without ensuring the availability of appropriate resources elsewhere. โ€œThe Olympics are an excuse to direct people to regions without thinking and without even checking the available reception capacity of the regions,โ€ she declared.

โ€œThe issue of welcoming foreigners is a difficult one politically and socially,โ€ Brice said, referring to migrants. โ€œAnd so the government chose not to talk about it, which I think was a mistake.โ€

Brice believes that sharing reception responsibilities between regions, if done well, could allow France to provide more thoughtful, humane and ultimately effective assistance to the thousands of migrants arriving. this country every year. However, for the system to work, it must be well-funded and well-managed, Brice said. Most importantly, as activists and host cities argue, everyone involved โ€“ from resettled migrants to the cities asked to receive them โ€“ must be fully informed. believe and actively participate in planning.

โ€œIf the government fails to take responsibility and provide itself with the appropriate means, it risks defeating the only useful solution to welcoming foreigners in this country,โ€ Brice concluded.

Back at the homeless camp under the Stalingrad metro station, Abdullatif, 29, from Afghanistan, seemed tense. โ€œI heard we have to leave Paris but I don’t want to. Finally I started training as an electrician and I had to stay here,โ€ said Abdullatif, who only wanted to give his first name. He decided to stay in Paris.

But the fate of those who decide to stay in the capital is also uncertain. โ€œEither you accept what they offer you, or you go back to the streets,โ€ explains Alauzy, of Mรฉdecins Du Monde, who has now witnessed some resettlement activities.

And, if departures to the regions are voluntary, many

  • South China Sea tensions escalating once more

Maritime conflicts in the vast South China Sea have increased in recent years as China has increasingly militarized disputed islands and clashed with regional rivals over their claims to the islands. The waterway is rich in resources and strategically important.

Bordered by China and several Southeast Asian nations, parts of this vital economic route are claimed by several governments, with Beijing claiming ownership of almost the entire route. water, regardless of the verdict of international justice.

Over the past two decades, China has occupied several reefs and atolls far from its coast in the South China Sea, building military facilities including airstrips and ports.

Competing claimants, such as the Philippines, say such actions erode their sovereignty and violate maritime law.

And the United States agrees, regularly sending Navy destroyers to participate in freedom of navigation operations near disputed islands, raising concerns that the South China Sea could become a flashpoint between the two superpowers.

This 1.3 million square kilometer waterway is vital to international trade, with an estimated one-third of global shipping worth billions of dollars passing through it each year.

This is also home to a large and fertile fishing ground on which many people’s lives and livelihoods depend.

However, much of its economic value remains untapped. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the waterway holds at least 190 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 11 billion barrels of oil.

Who controls these resources and how they are exploited can have a huge impact on the environment. The South China Sea is home to hundreds of uninhabited atolls and atolls as well as diverse wildlife threatened by climate change and marine pollution.

Beijing claims โ€œindisputable sovereigntyโ€ over nearly all of the South China Sea, as well as most of its islands and shoals, including many features hundreds of kilometers from the Chinese mainland. The Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei and Taiwan also have different claims.

In 2016, an international court in The Hague ruled in favor of the Philippines in a historic maritime dispute, concluding that China had no legal basis to claim historic rights to most of the Sea. Winter.

    China ignores the ruling:
Manila said Beijing continues to send maritime militia to Mischief Reef and Scarborough Shoal, within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone. In the southern part of the sea is the Spratly archipelago chain, which Beijing calls the Nansha archipelago. The archipelago consists of 100 islets and reefs, 45 of which are occupied by China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam or the Philippines.

In the northwest of the sea, the Paracel Islands – known in China as the Xisha Islands – have been controlled by Beijing since 1974 despite claims by Vietnam and Taiwan.

China’s ruling Communist Party also claims autonomy over Taiwan as its own territory, although it has never controlled the region.

China has built the world’s largest naval fleet with more than 340 warships and until recently was considered a blue-water navy, operating mainly near its coast. But Beijing’s shipbuilding reveals its maritime ambitions. In recent years, the country has launched large guided-missile destroyers, amphibious assault ships and aircraft carriers capable of operating on the high seas and projecting power thousands of miles away from Beijing. thousand kilometers.

Additionally, Western maritime security experts โ€“ as well as the Philippines and the United States โ€“ say China controls hundreds of powerful maritime militias and operates as an unofficial force โ€“ and could officially denied โ€“ which Beijing uses to assert its territorial claims also in the South China Sea. East Sea and beyond.

The United States has no claim to the South China Sea, but says the waters are vital to its national interest in ensuring freedom of seas around the world.

The US Navy regularly conducts freedom of navigation operations (FONOPs) in the South China Sea, saying the US โ€œprotects the right of every nation to fly, sail, and operate wherever international law “Economy allows”.

Beijing denounces such activities as illegal. Much of Beijing’s military buildup is concentrated along the Spratly and Paracel archipelagos, where ongoing land reclamation has led to the destruction of coral reefs and subsequent construction of them.

Chinese ships are known to have circumnavigated various atolls and islets, dispatching dredgers to construct artificial islands large enough to accommodate tankers and warships.

โ€œOver the past decade, China has added more than 3,200 acres of land to its seven occupied outposts in the Spratly Islands, which now include airfields, harbor areas and supply facilities to support the China’s continued military and paramilitary presence in the region. ยป Lindsey Ford, the US Deputy Secretary of Defense, told a House subcommittee earlier this week, referring to China by its official acronym, People’s Republic of China.

  • Philippine defence secretary promises to confront China’s ‘bullying’

China is acting like a schoolyard menace toward more modest nations, the Philippine defense secretary told CNN Friday during an elite meeting in which he cautioned his country, and the more extensive world, needed to face Beijing’s regional development in the South China Ocean.

“I can’t imagine any more clear instance of harassing than this,” said Philippine Secretary of Public Safeguard Gilberto Teodoro Jr. “It’s not the topic of taking your lunch cash, but rather it’s actually an issue of taking your lunch pack, your seat and even enlistment in school.”

His remarks follow progressively confident moves by the Philippines to safeguard its case to reefs in the South China Ocean during over a month of high-stakes sea show.

While strains among China and the Philippines over the exceptionally challenged and vital stream have rotted for quite a long time, conflicts have spiked this mid year, restoring provincial feelings of dread that an error or error adrift could set off a more extensive clash, incorporating with the US.

The district is generally viewed as an expected flashpoint for worldwide blaze and the new showdowns have raised worries among Western onlookers of possibly forming into a global episode if China, a worldwide power, chooses to partner act all the more strongly against the Philippines, a US deal.

Late occurrences have involved stalemates between China’s coast monitor, what Manila says are shadowy Chinese “sea civilian army” boats and little wooden Philippine fishing vessels, Chinese water cannons hindering the resupply of a wrecked Philippine military station, and a solitary Filipino jumper slicing through a drifting Chinese boundary.

Teodoro portrayed the Philippines’ refusal to withdraw in the waters inside its 200 nautical-mile select monetary zone as a battle for the actual presence of the Philippines.

  • Nana Aba Anamoah criticizes Akufo-Addo for excessive borrowing

The Akufo-Addo government has faced intense criticism for its substantial borrowing to address Ghana’s economic challenges, and Nana Aba Anamoah, a vocal media personality, has joined the chorus of concerned Ghanaians urging the government to address citizen hardships and uplift vulnerable segments of society.

She argues that justifying the extensive borrowing based on road construction and other projects is insufficient, particularly when previous administrations undertook similar initiatives without accumulating as much debt.

Notably, the government secured a $3 billion IMF bailout to tackle the country’s issues. Nana Aba Anamoah emphasizes the need for the government to implement projects and address Ghana’s economic woes to validate the significant borrowing undertaken for the nation’s benefit.

Her comments were made on Twitter in response to an individual who asserted that the government’s extensive road construction projects alone justify its substantial borrowing.

โ€œNanaโ€™s predecessors built roads too but heโ€™s borrowed more than any of them and we expect to SEE and FEEL more. Tell them to show working,โ€ she wrote on her Twitter page.

With respect to borrowing by the Akufo-Addo-led government, former President John Dramani Mahama and other political analysts have lambasted them for not being able to resolve challenges facing Ghanaians considering the huge sums of money borrowed by the government.

  • At least 52 people murdered as explosion tore through religious procession in southwest Pakistan

Authorities suspect a suicide assault caused at least 52 deaths and numerous injuries at a religious parade in southwest Pakistan on Friday.

According to the province’s communications minister Jan Achakzai, the explosion happened while people were celebrating the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed in the Mastung area of the volatile Balochistan province.

Separatists have been fighting for independence from Pakistan for decades in Balochistan, the country’s largest province by size. They blame the government for the exploitation and monopolisation of the area’s mineral wealth.

Atta Ul Munim, the assistant commissioner in charge of Mastung, told CNN that the explosion was a suicide attack. Dr. Abdul Rasheed, the district health officer, later reported that the explosion had injured 50 persons.

The explosion’s cause has not yet been assigned to any one group.

He stated that the attack was intended to kill a senior police officer, who died in the explosion.

According to him, the seriously injured have been taken to hospitals in Quetta, the provincial capital, while others are receiving care at a nearby facility in Mastung.

The victims’ bodies have also been sent to a hospital, according to Achakzai, although he expects the death toll to grow.

Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, the interim prime minister of Pakistan, issued a statement strongly denouncing the explosion.

According to a statement from his office, “The Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the families of those who died in the blast.” “The Prime Minister’s prayers for mercy towards the families and forgiveness for the deceased.”

According to a statement from the inspector general, police in Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan and located some 600 kilometres (370 miles) from Mastung, have been told to strengthen security and remain on “high alert” in the wake of the incident.

He emphasized that he is not a cultist himself and has been dealing with cultists since relocating to Nigeria from England in 2019.

Naira Marley also suggested that those accusing him of involvement in Mohbad’s death might be attempting to divert attention from the actual cause of his demise. He expressed his hope that the police would conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth.

He said, โ€œI believe he was actually stressed as much as he needed help. I believe he has been bullied. I believe there were people on his neck, people all over him that he was in danger. But it wasnโ€™t from us. If he was in danger from me, if anybody is scared of me, nobody is gonna come out doing all of these. I donโ€™t believe in any cult whatsoever. I came to Nigeria in 2019 from England. I donโ€™t know what a cult is. Iโ€™ve been running away from the cultists in Nigeria. Iโ€™m actually an anti-cultist. Iโ€™m against it. So many times they tried to force me into it but thank God they never succeeded in doing it.

โ€œI do understand that maybe he [Mohbad] had surrounded himself with a lot of bad people like a lot of cultists. And I can see from the way people are trying to cover up, with the way they sending in money [to Mohbadโ€™s family] and with the experience of what has happened around them, I just hope the police will find out a lot of things, man.โ€

  • Show promoter reveals Mohbad passed away same day his Canadian visa was approved

Canada-based show promoter, Prince George, has disclosed a shocking detail about the late Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad. According to George, Mohbad’s Canadian visa was approved on the very day he passed away.

This revelation came during a candlelight procession organized by Nigerians in Toronto, Canada, as they remembered the late musician. The timing of this event and the visa approval has added a layer of mystery to Mohbad’s sudden and untimely death, leaving many to wonder about the circumstances surrounding it.

โ€œI had planned to surprise the late singerโ€™s best friend, Bella Shmurda, during the latterโ€™s show in Canada by bringing Mohbad to the show,โ€ the singer and promoter said.

โ€œI sent a message to Mohbadโ€™s manager in the morning of the day he died to inform him that his visa had been approved, only to be told that Mohbad had died mysteriouslyโ€, he said.

Also, present at the event was a visibly heartbroken Bella Shurmda who struggled to mutter a few words to the audience. He noted that he was still in shock about the death of his friend.

He said, โ€œThis person is my brother, my guy, my best friend, you know? Itโ€™s so sad. This is someone I saw before I left Nigeria, only to be called two, three days later that he had died. Everything was so funny. Even my mum had to call and tell me not to come home.โ€

  • Suspect in Baltimore’s tech CEO’s slaying apprehended

Police are looking for someone who they think killed a CEO in Baltimore, Maryland. They have caught a man after searching for him for several days.

Pava LaPere, a 26-year-old person who started a company called EcoMap Technologies, was reported as gone on Monday morning and later discovered dead.

The police arrested a criminal named Jason Dean Billingsley on Thursday.

They said that Ms. LaPere was found dead at her home on Friday night and there were no signs that someone broke into her apartment.

The police found her dead body in a building in Baltimore. Her head had been hit and injured.

Investigators said before that there were no signs that Ms. LaPere knew Billingsley, who was wanted for first-degree murder.

A special police team trapped the 32-year-old person in a train station 27 miles (43km) south of Baltimore in Bowie, Maryland, according to the police during a news conference on Thursday morning.

MsLaPere went to school at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She started her own technology company when she was 21 years old.

She was included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list earlier this year.

During a vigil held on Wednesday, Mr. LaPere, the father of Ms. LaPere, expressed that his daughter was very close to him and was his beloved daughter.

He remembered how they used to share pictures of their walks at sunrise and thanked the people who loved their daughter.
The person the police were looking for was involved in another crime where they tried to kill someone, committed rape, and set a fire. This happened on September 19 in Baltimore.

Officials told people that he was dangerous and had weapons before capturing him on Thursday.

Billingsley got out of jail in October 2022 after being in there for almost seven years for a serious sexual crime.

He has been listed as a registered sex offender in Maryland since he was released.

The police are looking at other cases from October to see if Billingsley might be involved in any of them.

According to NBC News, the suspect’s mom, Scarlett Billingsley, sent him a text telling him to surrender because she believed his life was in danger.

Scarlett Billingsley also told the network that her son came to her home for a short time on Monday and showed her a gun.

  • France to deport any women discovered in lorry

A French public prosecutor said that four out of the six women who were saved from a truck in France need to go out of the country in the next 30 days.

The police found four women from Vietnam and two women from Iraq after they got into a truck, thinking it was going to the UK.

It’s not clear which of the four women will be sent away.

The other two have been given permission to remain in France while they wait for a decision on their asylum requests, according to a statement from the prosecutor.

According to Laetitia Francart, a public prosecutor at the judicial court of Villefranche-sur-Saรดne, the women got into the lorry, believing that it would take them to England. The lorry was registered in Ireland.

Actually, the truck was bringing a load of bananas to Dunkirk and would later go to Italy.

When the women, who are believed to be migrants, realized that the lorry had gone in a different direction by checking their phone locations, they became very scared.

One of the women found it hard to breathe and was able to reach out to a reporter from BBC to explain what they were going through. Then, Khue Luu was able to inform the French authorities.

Meanwhile, the lorry driver started to think that there might be people inside the trailer. He heard voices that seemed to be coming from there.

The driver pulled over to the side of the road and called the police, according to the prosecutor.

The French authorities found six women inside a refrigerated trailer after connecting the reports to the lorry and investigating the vehicle.

The temperature was 6 degrees Celsius or 42 degrees Fahrenheit when it was opened, the prosecutor explained. However, all the women were reported to be healthy.

The driver was arrested when the women were found, but the prosecutor said he didn’t think the driver did anything wrong.

  • US government shutdown: Kevin McCarthy rushing to close a deal

The most important Republican in the United States House of Representatives has stated that he is hopeful that a deal can be made at the last moment to prevent a government shutdown.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said that by the end of the day, we will finish this task.

The Congress has until midnight on Saturday to pass a new budget for funding the government agencies.

Many people will be forced to take time off work without pay, and certain important organizations will no longer be able to function if an agreement is not reached.

“I wake up every day feeling positive,” Mr. McCarthy, who is 58 years old, said when asked about the chances of a deal being made. I think you should invest your money in me. We will finish this.

The chances of a shutdown seemed to go up on Thursday as the Senate and the House had different ideas about how to pay for things.

The Senate plans to have a vote to decide on a temporary funding bill. This bill has support from both Democrats and Republicans in the Senate. The bill would prevent the government from stopping its operations until 17 November, allowing Congress to have more time to come to an agreement on a budget for a longer period of time.

However, in order for the bill to become a law, it must be approved by the House. Unfortunately, at least nine members of Mr McCarthy’s small Republican majority are not willing to support any temporary measure.

The group keeps saying they will take Mr. McCarthy out as House Speaker if he uses Democratic votes to get around their disagreement and pass a funding bill without their support.

What occurs during a US government shutdown.

President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he believes the Speaker is deciding between being the Speaker and looking out for the United States’ interests.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that this puzzle is not difficult and can be solved. “Says McCarthy should stop allowing extreme Maga supporters to influence his choices. ”

The House is planning to vote on short-term spending bills on Friday, but these bills are not expected to be approved by the Senate.

MrMcCarthy has not agreed to bring the Senate’s bill for temporary funds to the House for a vote, but he said that a government shutdown could be avoided if Democrats addressed the issue of border security in that bill more effectively.

“We want to find a way to improve the current Senate bill by adding some border provisions,” he said to reporters on Thursday.

This morning, I spoke with a few Democratic senators who agree with our goals and ideas. They want to take action regarding the border.
Lately,McCarthy has noticed that the moderate and right wings of his caucus have been growing apart in their beliefs.

The right-wing side has only a few members, but they have a lot of influence in a chamber controlled by Republicans with a small majority.

They strongly disagree with the usual way of doing things in Washington, and they want the party to make spending cuts and focus on conservative issues.

That means Mr. McCarthy might need help from the other party to save him and agree on a temporary spending plan.

If he works with Democrats, it is very likely that they will start a process to remove him as Speaker.

  • Family involved in gymnastics racism calls apology ‘useless’

The mother of a black girl did not receive a medal at an Irish gymnastics event. She thinks the apology she got is not helpful.

A video was found recently that shows a young black gymnast being treated unfairly because of their race. In the video, an official who was giving out medals at an event in Dublin last year ignored the unfair treatment.

The mom said that seeing the incident happen was really awful.

Gymnastics Ireland said sorry on Monday for making people upset.

The group in charge said they were really sorry and they know they have to do more to make sure this doesn’t happen again. They also said they are against racism in any form.

But the girl’s mother said the sports organization only said sorry to the public after 18 months because they felt pressured to do so by the whole world.

“It’s almost useless,” she said about the apology. No one understood or cared about how I felt, and it doesn’t feel genuine.

It’s been a year and a half and it seems like they were forced to say sorry to me.

I cried for a long time, and then lots of people cried with me before I could have this.

The incident happened at a GymStart event in the city of Dublin in March 2022. During the event, all children were given participation medals, except for a young black girl who didn’t receive one while on the podium.

The judge at the event said sorry to the family for her “mistake” and promised she would never be racist.

However, the family of the girl believes that their daughter experienced racism. They requested that the family’s name not be revealed because they are afraid it might lead to people being mean to them because of their race.

Her mother was shocked and couldn’t believe what she saw happening.

“She said she couldn’t believe that this could happen in today’s time. ”

It was painful to see that my daughter, who was the only black child in the competition, stood out very clearly. What happened to her was completely unjustified and there was no excuse for it. She was really sad about what happened.

“It seemed like they held her responsible just because she was black. ” It’s very difficult for a 10-year-old to experience.
She said that the next day, she sent an email to the people in charge, hoping to receive an apology for her daughter.

The girl’s mom said she just wanted them to understand and reply kindly. I wanted people to show they support my daughter. What we really wanted was for her to apologize to us. To let her know they are there for her and to make her feel supported.

One year after the bad thing happened, the family got a short apology letter from the judge who was there. The letter was given to anyone who was affected by what happened.

But the BBC discovered that the judge had sent another email saying sorry shortly after the event. They sent it to Gymnastics Ireland, who were supposed to give it to the family.

She said sorry to the family for making them upset. She was very nervous and it was a real accident. She also mentioned their lovely child. “She said that when she realized she had made a mistake, she hurried back to get a participation medal for your beautiful child and say sorry. ”

The family said they never received the email. They saw it last month when they talked to the judge in a meeting to try and solve their disagreement. They thought that someone from Gymnastics Ireland would come to the meeting, but they didn’t send anyone.

The family says that it became obvious to them through the mediation that the reason for rejecting the medal was due to racial discrimination. We asked the judge for a comment, but they didn’t answer.

However, the main problem for the family is how the sport’s governing organizations have responded.

“The girl’s father said that they tried to hide the incident and pretend like it never happened. ” “They likely believed that over time, they would stop remembering it. ” It hurt a lot. You need to ask someone to say sorry.

The girl’s mother said Gymnastics Ireland’s apology, which came last week after the video became popular, was “very unhelpful. ”

“She said she hasn’t shown her because it’s been more than a year. ”

She said to the BBC that she wanted Ireland’s Department of Sport to change their policy. She added that she didn’t want any other black child, or children of any other race, to experience the same thing.

Gymnastics Ireland admitted to the BBC that they have taken a very long time to apologize to the family, and they feel sorry for disappointing the child and her parents.

The company admitted that they didn’t show enough understanding and care in their response. They also mentioned that this was the first time someone complained about racism since the company started, and they have taken several lessons from this experience.

The delays happened because of different reasons like mistakes by people, threats of getting sued, involvement of other people, and our recognition that this was a complaint made by parents against the person in charge.

After the incident, the family’s situation was helped by a group called Sport Against Racism Ireland. They also contacted an American civil rights activist named Professor Harry Edwards.

Then, he reached out to Simone Biles, a famous gymnast who is a world champion. Simone Biles sent a video to the family to show her support.

I wanted to tell you that I noticed how people treated you at your GymStart event recently. I was very surprised. I want you to know that you should get a medal like the other girls,” Ms.

When the girl received the video, she felt very happy. She told the BBC that she was jumping and excited because the gymnast in the video is the best ever, and she was glad to hear that the gymnast supports her.

And it made her want to continue playing the sport.

“Yes, I’m still going,” she said. I will continue to work really hard.

  • Bride and groom survived fire that murdered at least 113 attendees during marriage ceremony

The man and woman getting married at a wedding in Iraq were able to leave through a kitchen door after a fire killed over 100 people who were attending the celebration.

113 people died and 130 people got hurt in a big fire in Hamdaniya, a district in Nineveh province, on Tuesday.

The bride, Haneen, and groom, Revan Esho, were thought to have passed away but are now getting medical care at a hospital in Erbil after the fire. They are in a very bad mental state.

Sad families had to bury their loved ones and had a ceremony at a place called The Cemetery of the Resurrection.

The fire started one hour into the event when fireworks were pointed at the ceiling while the bride and groom were dancing.

A video supposedly showed Haneen getting really scared and shocked when she saw flames burning the walls and the roof collapsing.

The couple quickly ran away to save themselves and got out through the kitchen door, as mentioned by media broadcaster Rudaw.

Other guests who were hurt have been moved to different hospitals in cities like Erbil, Mosul, and Duhok to receive treatment.

A wedding hall in Iraq caught fire and over 100 people died.
Hamdaniya, another name for Qaraqosh, was able to withstand the presence of ISIS, a terrorist group. A person attending a wedding in the area expressed that the unfortunate event at the wedding was more painful for them than the harm caused by ISIS.

This wasn’t a wedding. Guest Mariam Khedr said it was a terrible experience while waiting at a morgue in Mosul to get the bodies of her daughter and three grandchildren, including a baby who was only eight months old.

Someone else said, “I’m very sad because I lost my daughter, her husband, and their three-year-old child. ” Everything got destroyed by fire. My heart feels very hot and painful.

The police arrested 14 people, including the owners of the events hall. The government will investigate the incident quickly and will announce the findings within 72 hours.

The father of the groom said that he thinks the person who owns the hall is the one who caused the fire. He told this to CNN.

The government has told people to quickly check places where many people gather, like hotels, schools, and hospitals.
Three people at the wedding thought that the hall was not prepared for emergencies because they couldn’t see any fire extinguishers and there were only a few ways to exit in case of a fire.

The early information suggests that the building had materials that catch fire easily, which caused it to fall down.

Imad Yohana, who is 34 years old, managed to run away from the fire. He explained, “We saw the fire moving and coming out of the hall. ” People who were able to escape got free, while those who couldn’t were trapped.

A priest at the Al-Tahira Church in Qaraqosh told people who were sad that Iraq is sad together, but he also criticized officials for being corrupt and showing favoritism.

The United States said it was prepared to discuss with the Iraqi government about providing help.

  • Yvonne Nelson slams Akufo-Addo

Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has taken a bold stance against President Nana Akuffo-Addo in a recently shared video, where she vociferously expressed her concerns about unfulfilled promises and perceived nepotism within the current government.

Venting her frustrations on her Twitter account, Yvonne Nelson shared a poignant video metaphorically depicting the nation of Ghana as a sinking island weighed down by anchors crafted from foreign currencies, symbolizing mounting debts. In this visual representation, the inhabitants of the island are seen fleeing on ships and boats, seeking refuge from the deteriorating situation.

Furthermore, the video portrays the leaders positioned atop the sinking island, receiving assistance from a helicopter conspicuously labeled “IMF,” implying reliance on external aid. In the midst of these unfolding events, the spirit of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, is depicted as weeping, and a higher power appears to observe the situation with a palpable sense of displeasure.

She captioned the video, “All the campaign empty promises Mixed with the BIG BIG English assorted with the FAMILY & FRIENDS equals a FAILURE. @NAkufoAddoโ€

The opinions expressed by Yvonne Nelson are indicative of her dissatisfaction with the current administration’s policies and actions, particularly in light of what she perceives to be broken campaign promises and worries about nepotism in the executive branch.

These add to the numerous calls for better economic and governmental management that are being made by concerned citizens both online and offline.

A recent three-day #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest was organised by the Ghanaian pressure group Democracy Hub to express their displeasure with the government’s disregard for some of the most pressing issues facing the nation’s citizens.

  • Naira Marley reveals MohBad had psychological issues

Naira Marley has spoken openly about his friendship with the late singer MohBad and the young musician’s battle with psychiatric conditions in an interview with presidential aide Reno Omokri.

While the music industry continues to grieve MohBad’s unexpected passing, Naira Marley has been grappling with allegations concerning his connection to the deceased singer, who was once signed under his label.

Naira Marley emphasized that MohBad had actively sought help for his psychological issues, which even raised concerns about potential suicidal tendencies.

During the interview, Reno Omokri directly confronted Naira Marley about his alleged involvement in MohBad’s tragic death.

Naira Marley vehemently denied any involvement, asserting that he wasn’t even in the country when the unfortunate incident occurred.

To demonstrate the closeness of their relationship, Naira Marley shared a voice note exchanged with MohBad just one week before the young singer’s passing.

However, despite this evidence, rumors and suspicions persist, with some internet users questioning whether Naira Marley possessing the voice note implies premeditation or if it was purely coincidental.

They wonder if Naira Marley made the trip deliberately to create an alibi and release himself from liability for MohBad’s demise.

Naira Marley had previously given his viewpoint in a press release that had been released just two days before the interview.

In the statement, he categorically denied any involvement in the terrible death of MohBad.

He went on to say that neither he nor his group had ever hurt MohBad physically.

However, when earlier tweets from MohBad that stated he had been the victim of an assault that was allegedly ordered by Naira Marley surfaced, comparable information became available.

The interview is distinctive due to Naira Marley’s admission of MohBad’s psychological problems.

He admitted that the late artist had mental health problems and that he had made sincere efforts to help him while he was still alive.

However, this information raises more questions and complicates the investigation into MohBad’s murder.

  • Man who put girlfriend in meat grinder pardoned by Putin

A man from Russia who killed his partner by choking her, then used a machine to crush her body into pieces and got rid of the remains by flushing her down the toilet, has been forgiven by Vladimir Putin. This forgiveness was given because the man fought in the war in Ukraine.

Dmitri Zelensky, who is 41 years old, was in prison for 11 years because he was found guilty of causing the death of Tatiana Melekhina, a 27-year-old university graduate.

The police said that the cruelty shown in the killing was very bad and even experienced detectives were shocked by it.

“He didn’t only cut her body apart, but he also separated the muscles and bones, and turned them into minced meat,” a person said.

Then he poured the mincemeat down the toilet and it went into the drainage system. He tossed the bones into the river.

‘He planned to hide the murder. ‘

When Zelensky’s wife learned about his mistress’s death, she expressed her shock and sadness. She mentioned that she didn’t realize he could be so cruel.
His mother, Galina, confirmed that he was forgiven and allowed to leave prison.

โ€˜My son went to fight in the war for many reasons โ€“ he wanted to make up for his mistakes,โ€™ she said.

Zelensky was chosen as a soldier from jail to help Putin in Ukraine.

In June, he said that 32,000 people were coming back to Russia and they didn’t have any criminal records.
His mother, Galina, confirmed that he was forgiven and let out of jail.

โ€˜My son went to the war for many reasons โ€“ he wanted to make up for the things he had done,โ€™ she said.

Zelensky was chosen as a soldier for Putin’s forces in Ukraine. He was one of many prisoners who were recruited from jail by Yevgeny Prigozhin, who was the leader of the Wagner mercenary group.

  • My accident was not a natural occurrence but rather a spiritual attack -Wendy Shay

Renowned Ghanaian songstress, Wendy Shay, has opened up about a harrowing near-fatal accident she recently survived, expressing her suspicions regarding its cause.

Describing the accident during an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Wendy Shay explained, “I was heading home; I had finished creating some content for my new song, ‘Every Man Cheats.’ I had gotten to my junction, and all of a sudden, I felt a big push from behind. I remember all I was screaming was Jesus, and then I entered into a gutter. I didn’t even realize when my head hit the dashboard, and I realized I was blacking out, so they had to rush me to the hospital.”

Wendy Shay revealed that she suffered injuries in the accident, notably a nasal bone fracture and facial inflammation. Fortunately, she underwent medical evaluations, and her condition was improving. Additionally, she confirmed that her Personal Assistant, who was also in the car at the time of the accident, emerged unharmed.

Reflecting on the incident, she expressed, “It was a very big shock, no one saw this coming. For me to be here, it’s by God’s grace.”

Wendy Shay, in an unexpected statement, asserted that the incident was not a natural occurrence but rather a spiritual assault. She insisted that she knew who might have been behind the attack and that they were trying to pin the incident on her manager Bullet.

“Those who wanted to kill me, they know themselves, and they’re trying to put it on Bullet. It wasn’t Bullet. It wasn’t a normal attack. What I can say is that they know themselves, but I am not going to mention their names. But they can never kill me,” she stated.

To prove her claim, Wendy Shay questioned the circumstances of the accident, saying, “People were saying, ‘Oh, it’s the wrangler,’ but how can a big tipper truck loaded with rocks hit me, and the tipper truck somersaulted, and my car was rather intact?”
