NPP Primaries: Delegates must vote for someone who can transform the economy – Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

The Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency in the Ashanti region, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, is urging the delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect a leader who is focused on economic development through the use of digital technology to meet the demands of the modern age.

Speaking on a radio show in Kumasi, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who also serves as the Majority Leader of Parliament and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, emphasized that all four candidates contesting the NPP’s leadership position in the 2024 election are qualified to do so according to the party’s constitution.

“However, not all can help achieve the NPP’s governance agenda in the modern age of Ghana’s politics and the country’s needs and drive the expected national development agenda.

“The Vice President has clearly demonstrated his ability to transform the country’s economy which calls for delegates of the party to give him the needed push on 4th November 2024. So I’m supporting Dr. Bawumia because of what I have seen in him,” he explained.

The Suame Member of Parliament insists the country’s economy is struggling not because the New Patriotic Party administration has been reckless but because of the Russian-Ukraine war.

“We are struggling in Ghana currently not because we have been reckless in government but because of the Russian-Ukraine war. The war has really hurt our agricultural sector. This is because they are our main source of fertilizer and other food supply. They are also one of our major suppliers of building construction materials. In parliament our opponent, the NDC once in Parliament questioned if the bombs were landing in Ghana forgetting our trade relationship with Ukraine,” he said.

He described the NDC and other NPP Presidential candidates’ attack on Dr. Bawumia for mismanaging the economy as baseless.

“The Vice President was a member of the economic management team but was not entirely the direct handler of the economy. Under the late President John Evans Atta Mills did we blame his Vice President John Dramani Mahama for mismanaging the economy as the head of the economic management,” he questioned.

He disclosed, “The President has his economic adviser who reviews and advises him on any proposal that comes on the president’s desk. So the Vice President who is not totally in charge of the economic Management team can only propose but the power to accept or reject the proposal is at the discretion of the president.”

He explained that the few policies the Vice President was given the opportunity to lead the initiation and implementation impacted the country’s economy positively.

“The impact of the digitalization drive as we know it is checking corruption and increasing government revenue correction making business transactions easy through the use of digital platforms. The gold for Oil policy has also helped and checked illegal gold transactions in Ghana and export.”

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has called on the delegates to vote for the Vice President to help him realize his vision for Ghana, which includes leveraging technology for development and progress.

Former Big Brother Naija reality show star, Pere Egbi, has revealed that he is relocating from Nigeria to Ghana. Pere, who is an American military trainee and actor, made the announcement on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle.

He wrote, “I am moving to Ghana.”

He gained fame in Nigeria after participating in the sixth edition of the Big Brother Naija reality show ‘Shine Ya Eye’ in 2019, where he was a finalist.

He also participated in the recent Big Brother Naija All Stars edition and was a finalist once again. Pere’s decision to move to Ghana marks a significant change in his life.

  • Ghana to start using drones to transport food, medicine to people’s homes

Ghana to start using drones to transport food, medicine to people’s homes

The Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsia Asare, has stated that Ghana will soon start using drones to transport food, medicine, and other supplies to people’s homes.

This would close Ghana’s telemedicine gap.

“You can even order food from the restaurant, you give them the GPS, they will survey the place through it, and they will come and deliver whatever you ordered hung by a string then the drone goes back to base.

“That is the future of medical distribution, especially drugs and prescriptions by Zipline in this way we can use it in the urban areas to serve people with their drugs.

“So, you do teleconsultation, your physician gives you a prescription, you pay it by POS system, and within a matter of 10 minutes it will be delivered,” he said.

This was revealed by Dr. Nsia Asare at the Accra College of Medicine (ACM)-hosted sixth West Africa Taiwan Health Promotion Conference.

According to him, Zipline Ghana and the government were working together to launch the system.

The theme of the two-day scientific conference is “Medical Education and Smart Medicine.”

It would enable Ghanaian medical professionals and experts from Taiwan to share knowledge to improve healthcare delivery in the country.

Dr. Nsia Asare emphasized how the construction of drone centers across the country has and is improving healthcare delivery, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He provided examples of how drones were effectively employed to send examination questions to remote locations for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), resulting in the test commencing on time across the country for the first time.

Dr Nsia Asare stated that Ghana had taken the lead in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the delivery of medical and non-medical commodities, saying, “we are the largest drone distribution center for supply chain systems in the world.”

The goal of the broad field of computer science known as artificial intelligence (AI) is to create intelligent machines that are able to carry out tasks that normally call for human intelligence.

When it started in 2016, Ghana had six distribution centres, covering 13 of the 16 regions, and it planned to open two more to cover the remaining regions.

“So that is the future in the supply chain system and the use of drones in the medical transformation the country wants to do. Ghana is going digital, we are doing digital economy, and the healthcare system has not been left out,” Dr Nsia Asare said.

Professor Afua Hesse, the President Accra College of Medicine, said the West Africa Taiwan Health Promotion conference, held every two years, was part of the ACM’s long-standing cooperation with Taiwan.

She explained that the meeting allows Ghanaian medical practitioners to express the West African perspective, while the Taiwanese medical team provides modern health expertise.

Prof Hesse said technology had advanced to the point where the country needs to leverage for its development.

“So, the idea was to look at smart medicine and how AI has altered the way medicine is delivered as well as the challenges that it brings and the way forward,” she stated.

The President of ACM emphasized the importance of educating students about the potential of AI in healthcare. Dr. Yaw Ofori-Adjei, the Technical Director of Fairgreen Limited, stressed that AI has become an integral part of everyday life and called for a concerted effort from leadership at all levels to promote its meaningful use. He called for the development of a national strategy and policy manual for integrating AI into healthcare delivery.

During his presentation on “Smart and Innovative Medicine in Urology,” Taiwanese urologist Dr. Wang Shao Chuan discussed the application of AI in the treatment of prostate cancer in his country. He highlighted how intelligent AI applications had aided in making better medical decisions, enhancing doctor-patient relationships, streamlining administrative processes, optimizing service procedures, and reducing costs.

Former state department employee imprisoned over US Capitol riot

A person who used to work for the US state department has been given a prison sentence of almost six years because of what he did during the US Capitol riot.

Federico Klein, who is 45 years old, was found guilty in July of 12 crimes. These crimes include physically attacking police officers and intentionally disrupting an official process.

Prosecutors said Klein was one of the first rioters to go into a tunnel at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

“He said he can’t be stopped. ” He used a stolen police shield to keep the doors open.

The ex-soldier tried to resist the officers for over an hour and told other people to harm the police, as shown in the trial evidence.

At that time, Klein was working for the state department as an expert on South America. He got this job when the Trump administration chose him in 2017.

He quit his job on January 19, 2021, just one day before President Joe Biden took office.

Before, Klein was employed by Mr. Trump for his 2016 presidential campaign.

He got sent to prison for five years and 10 months on Friday.

US District Judge Trevor McFadden said that Klein’s actions were very surprising and extremely bad.

The prosecutors wanted the person to be in prison for 10 years.

But in a document before sentencing, Klein’s lawyers argued that the government was making his involvement in the riot seem worse than it actually was.

They said that he should be punished for what he actually did on that day, and not for the worse things that others did.

The lawyers wanted the person to go to prison for 40 days and then be on probation.

Over 1,100 people have been accused of being involved in the riot.

  • Youngest astronaut crew from China dispatched to Tiangong space station

Youngest astronaut crew from China dispatched to Tiangong space station

When China’s first astronaut, Yang Liwei, went into space in 2003, it was a significant event that showed China was becoming a strong presence in space exploration.

China has become a big player in space after twenty years, which matches its increasing power and influence in the economy, politics, and military on Earth. Now, there is a space station that is always in orbit. People live and work there all the time.

On Thursday, three Chinese astronauts flew to the Tiangong space station on a spacecraft called Shenzhou-17. They took off from a place called Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, which is in the Gobi Desert. They will stay on the space station for six months.

They are the youngest group of people that China has ever sent to space, and their average age is 38. Their job on the space station includes fixing the broken solar panels caused by space junk. This is the first time Chinese astronauts will be doing repairs outside the station.

This is China’s sixth time sending people on a space mission to its space station since 2021. The new team will replace the Shenzhou-16 astronauts, who have been on the spacecraft since May.

Before the launch, the crew received a grand farewell with government officials and supporters lining the road. The three people in space said hello to the group of people on the ground. The people on the ground were holding Chinese flags and flowers in their hands. A musical group performed songs that celebrate their country, and the people in the audience joined in and sang the songs.

After going to space himself, Yang has helped many Chinese astronauts go on their own space missions. Thursday’s launch was very emotional, and it happened just a few days after the 20th anniversary of his own important flight.

In the last 20 years, it has grown quickly and achieved many great things,” Yang told CNN at the Jiuquan center before the launch.

The Tiangong, or “heavenly palace” in Chinese, was finished last year and is one of two space stations in space right now. The NASA-led International Space Station (ISS) will retire in 2030 after 15 years. This means that there might be no other space station left.

China has said that it will make the Tiangong bigger in the future. They will add three more parts to the existing three. This will allow more astronauts to stay in space together. Right now, it can hold three astronauts at most, while the ISS can accommodate seven astronauts.

Yang said he was very happy to see younger Chinese astronauts called “taikonauts” continuing the work started by previous generations. “He said that the soldiers show the power of our backup force and the potential for the future growth of China’s space industry. ”

Two of the astronauts on the Shenzhou-17 mission, Tang Shengjie (33) and Jiang Xinlin (35), are relatively new to the team. They became astronauts in China’s third group just over three years ago.

Tang Hongbo, a person from China’s second group of astronauts, is leading them.

Tang, who used to fly fighter jets, went to China’s space station in 2021 as part of its first crewed mission. He came back to the Tiangong and made a new record for Chinese astronauts by having the shortest time between two space missions.

Tiangong is a representation of China’s goals and abilities in space. Chinese astronauts couldn’t join the ISS, a project involving the US, Russia, Europe, Japan, and Canada, for over 20 years.

Since 2011, NASA has not been allowed to work together with China because Congress made a law called the Wolf Amendment, worried about spying. The fact that they were excluded has made Beijing decide to build its own space station.

China wants to work together with other countries in their space station. They are welcoming experiments from other nations. And that offer will be even more attractive once the ISS stops operating, which is planned to happen around 2030.

Leroy Chiao, who used to be an astronaut and led the International Space Station (ISS), mentioned that NASA has teamed up with various private organizations to build new space stations. These stations would be run by NASA astronauts. “But we will have to wait and see how everything progresses,” he told CNN.

Other countries that take part in space travel, including sending humans into space, have been having discussions with China. And if they are the only option available, these companies or countries can only be part of space travel for humans. This will be the case until NASA helps fund and launch commercial space stations that are ready to be used.

For many years, Beijing has been using its increasing power in space to offer partnerships and chances for growth to other countries.

China and the United States are competing with each other in various areas including economy, technology, and global politics. Now, they have also started competing in space exploration as it has become an important aspect of their power struggle.

After the Soviet Union’s space program ended, the US became the top leader in space. Recently, people in the US who watch and work in politics have been saying that China’s space abilities are growing quickly and might challenge America’s power.

That worry has gotten stronger because of several important and well-known accomplishments by China.

In 2019, China was the first country to reach and land on the side of the moon that we usually can’t see from Earth. In 2021, China became the second country, after the US, to successfully land a working rover on Mars.

China has further goals beyond what has already been mentioned. Next year, it wants to bring back the first samples ever taken from the other side of the moon. By the end of this decade, it plans to send people to the moon and create a research center there that people from different countries can use. Some countries, such as Russia, Venezuela, and South Africa, have apparently joined a planned lunar station.

Chiao, a former NASA astronaut, mentioned that the biggest hurdle for China’s space program is gaining the practical knowledge and skills that an organization like NASA already has.

For many years, we have been using spacecraft, space shuttles, and space stations. And we have a lot of experience and knowledge in training astronauts to work in space – and that’s where they are behind,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Hamid, has expressed his endorsement for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position.

He believes that Bawumia has the best chance of winning the 2024 presidential election due to his essential qualities and attributes, which include experience, competence, and charisma.

“Bawumia is the only candidate who has a realistic chance of winning,” Hamid said.

Dr Hamid, however, admitted that the 2024 election will be competitive, but he expressed confidence that Bawumia will lead the NPP to victory.

“No election has been an easy run since 2000, and I doubt there ever will be,” Hamid said. “But Bawumia has the best chance of winning.”

Over 200,000 NPP delegates across the country are voting on Saturday, November 4, to elect a presidential candidate for the 2024 election.

The other candidates in the race are Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.

To prevent resignations from the party after the primary, all four candidates signed an undertaking on October 2 not to resign if they lose.

  • Israel acknowledges airstrikes on an ambulance outside a hospital

Israel acknowledges airstrikes on an ambulance outside a hospital

Israel has admitted to attacking an ambulance near Gaza City’s Al-Shifa Hospital. The hospital is the biggest medical center in the area, and many people have reported that the attack caused the death and injury of many individuals.

On Friday, the health authorities controlled by Hamas said that more than 15 people were killed and around 50 others were injured. A video from the area showed at least twelve injured people with blood on them lying on the ground close to an ambulance. It looks like one of the cars has been damaged by pieces of metal at the place of the accident.

Israel said that it attacked the ambulance because it was being used by Hamas, according to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). “A military plane hit an ambulance that soldiers believed was being used by a group of Hamas terrorists near their location in the combat area. “

Several Hamas members were killed in the attack. We know that Hamas often uses ambulances to transport their members and weapons.

The ambulance strike made UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres repeat his request for a stop in the fighting in Gaza, but Israel said no.

Guterres said he was very scared about the news of an attack that happened in Gaza, where an ambulance convoy outside Al Shifa hospital was targeted.

“He said that the pictures of bodies lying on the street outside the hospital are very upsetting. He also mentioned that he remembers the acts of violence by Hamas in Israel, including the killing, injuring, and kidnapping of women and children. “”We demand that all people being held captive in Gaza are freed right away and without any conditions. “

He said that for almost a month, people in Gaza, even children and women, have been trapped, not receiving help, getting killed, and having their homes destroyed. He said that this needs to end.

A representative from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, who was at Al-Shifa Hospital, stated that Israel was accountable for the assault.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said that one of their ambulances was in the group of vehicles that were attacked, but none of their team members were hurt in the incident.

According to the PCRS, the ambulance was harmed when a shell landed close to it. When the Al-Shifa hospital’s gate was reached, it was attacked again. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) stated that a separate ambulance from the Ministry of Health was also hit, resulting in the death and injury of numerous people in the vicinity.

Rewrite this text in simple words:Dr. Ashraf Al-Qidra explained that the hospital had arranged for a group of medical personnel to travel together, and they had let the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) know about it.

He said the group of vehicles was going to the Rafah Crossing, which is at the southern border of the trapped area. This crossing is seen as the only chance for the people of Gaza to getaway from the bombs that Israel is dropping on the area.

“When the ambulances went towards the south, Israel attacked the ambulances in many places, even at the entrance of the Al-Shifa medical compound,” he said. “The Israeli occupation purposely attacked those ambulances. “

The International Committee of the Red Cross told CNN that they received a request to go with the convoy before it left. However, it said in a later statement that although it knew about the planned movement of a group of vehicles taking injured patients from northern Gaza to the south of the area on Friday, it was not involved in the process.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said that even if we weren’t there, this is still a medical convoy. It is never okay to use violence against medical workers. They said that no doctors, nurses, or any medical professionals should ever lose their lives while doing their job of saving lives.

Al-Shifa Hospital is being increasingly involved in the conflict as Israel recently said that the hospital is an important place for Hamas to control and give orders.

Palestinians said that the Israeli army’s claim is not true. The leader of the Gaza Health Ministry, Dr. [DirectorGeneral’sName], Medhat Abbas, said to CNN recently that Gaza’s hospitals are solely used for treating patients and not for protecting anyone.

Hamas also disagreed with the statement, asking the United Nations, Arab, and Islamic nations to step in and stop the bombings and destroying of the medical system.

The place is in a very crowded area called the Gaza Strip, which is about 140squaremiles. The Israeli military is attacking and surrounding the area.

Hamas, aid groups, and many countries have asked Israel to stop fighting, but the government has refused. They want to destroy Hamas because of their recent attack that killed over 1,400 Israelis, mostly innocent people.

In Gaza, more and more innocent people are getting hurt as Israel attacks big neighborhoods where people live, schools, and some areas near hospitals. Israel claims they are only targeting military sites. Over 9,100 people have died in Israeli attacks in the Strip since October 7, according to the latest numbers from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah. The information was gathered from sources in the Hamas-controlled area.

The constant bombing has made it really hard for Gaza’s hospitals to keep going. They are running out of important things like supplies and fuel.

In his statement about the ambulance strike, Guterres also talked about the urgent and difficult situation for the people in Gaza.

The situation in Gaza is verybad for the people living there. There is not enough food, water, and medicine to meet people’s needs. We are running out of fuel for hospitals and water plants.

Theemployees at Al-Shifa hospital are very tired, and there is not enough fuel to keep the lights on in the hospital rooms. This is causing problems with important things like making oxygen. Only one surgery room, the emergency area, and the specialized unit for critical patients called the ICU are still working,Dr. Yousef Abu Al-Rish, who is in charge of the hospitals in Gaza, said in a video that CNN obtained.

NPP goes to the polls today to elect a flagbearer

Today, more than 200,000 New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates from all 275 of the nation’s constituencies will cast ballots to choose a presidential candidate who will lead the party in the general elections of 2024.

Following an August 26 Super Delegates Conference, the party’s ten declared members—which included the incumbent Member of Parliament, the Vice President, former ministers, and MPs—were whittled down to five.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia won with 629 votes, or 68.15 percent of the total votes cast in the Super Delegates Conference. Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central Member of Parliament, came in second, and Alan Kyerematen, the former Trade and Industry Minister, came in third.

Dissatisfied with the results of the Super Delegates Conference and voicing concerns about unjust treatment by the NPP leadership, Alan Kyerematen left the party to found the Movement for Change and run as an independent in the general elections of 2024.

In order to select the fifth candidate, Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh had to tie, but the former withdrew from the planned September 2 run-off.

It is anticipated that 203,439 delegates will cast ballots overall, with 436 of them doing so at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.

34,987 delegates from the Ashanti Region and 4,204 delegates from the Ahafo Region will cast ballots. In the Greater Accra Region, 39,134 delegates will cast ballots. Volta 11,995 is its delegate number.

Additionally, polling places have been set up in each of the nation’s 275 constituencies.

The candidates in today’s election are Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President; Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, the former Agriculture Minister; and Francis Addai-Nimoh, the former MP for Mampong.

  • At least 129 people killed after deadly earthquake strikes Nepal, toppling homes

At least 129 people killed after deadly earthquake strikes Nepal, toppling homes

At least 129 people died in an earthquake in a faraway area of northwest Nepal on Friday night. Many buildings collapsed, and the number of victims might increase, according to officials.

The earthquake was 5. 6 on the scale used to measure earthquakes. It happened about 26 miles away from Jumla, Nepal, in Karnali province. The earthquake was not very deep, only 18 kilometers below the surface. The shaking was felt all the way in New Delhi, which is India’s capital.

The police spokesperson of Nepal, Kuber Kadayat, informed CNN that till now 129 people have been confirmed dead and 140 injured. This earthquake on Friday has been the deadliest one since 2015.

In Jajarkot district, which was near where the earthquake started, 92 people were found to be dead and 55 others got hurt. In a district close by called Rukam West, 37 people died and 85 people got hurt, according to Kadayat.

Videos from Reuters showed many houses in Jajarkot completely destroyed, with only piles of broken bricks and wood remaining.

Nepal has a lot of earthquakes because it is located where two big parts of the land, called tectonic plates, meet. This is also why there are big mountains there called the Himalayas.

In 2015, a very strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7. 8 happenedIt caused a lot of destruction to many homes and buildings in different parts of the country. Sadly, around 9,000 people died because of it. The earthquake also caused about $6 billion worth of damage.

Government officials said they were worried that the number of people killed or injured in the earthquake on Friday would increase. This is because they have not been able to communicate with the area near the center of the earthquake, which is about 500 kilometers (300 miles) away from the capital city Kathmandu. People in the hilly area near the center also felt the earthquake.

The official from Jajarkot district said that many people are hurt and there could be a lot of deaths too.

A lot of houses have fallen down and many others have cracks on them. Many people had to stay outside all night because they were too afraid to go inside their damaged homes after aftershocks happened.

Jajarkot district has around 190,000 people living in it, and the villages are spread out in the faraway hills. Photos released by the AFP news agency showed people who had survived coming together at the main hospital in Jajarkot.

India’s leader, Narendra Modi, shared his sadness and sympathy with the family and friends of the people who died in the earthquake.

Modi expressed that he was very sad about the loss of lives and damage caused by the earthquake in Nepal. India supports and stands together with Nepal. We are prepared to offer any help that we can. We are thinking about the families who have lost loved ones and we hope those who are hurt get better soon.

NPP Primaries: Respect the laws and maintain the integrity of the voting process – EC to NPP delegates

The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Serebour Quaicoe has called upon New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates participating in Saturday’s presidential primary to uphold the principle of secret voting.

He emphasized the importance of respecting electoral laws and ensuring the integrity of the voting process. Dr. Serebour also advised delegates to refrain from taking photos of their ballots.

This action, according to him was in direct violation of the laws governing the electoral process.

“Every law on elections is in place and it is imperative that the sanctity of the secret ballot is upheld. It is vital that all delegates respect the laws and maintain the integrity of the voting process. Any attempt to capture your vote on camera will result in your ballot being disqualified,” he said.

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe also noted that individuals found taking photos of their ballots would face consequences, including being reported to the police for appropriate action.

Voting is scheduled to begin at 7 am and conclude at 2 pm, with over 200,000 party delegates expected to take part in the poll.

Ashling Murphy: Murder allegedly alleges masked guy killed Ashling

The man who is blamed for killing Ashling Murphy said in court that someone he didn’t know, who was wearing a mask, attacked him and killed the 23-year-old teacher.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ said that he admitted to lying to the Irish police and claimed he doesn’t remember confessing to her murder.

Jozef Puska, a 33-year-old man from Lynally Grove, Mucklagh in County Offaly, is on trial at Dublin’s Central Criminal Court for the murder of Ms Murphy. However, he claims he is innocent and is testifying in his own defense.

Ms Murphy was attacked and killed while running near Tullamore on 12 January 2022.

Mr Puska said that the person who attacked him was wearing dark clothes and a mask on their face.

He said that a man yelled at him in English, but he couldn’t understand him and didn’t know why the man attacked him.

He said that a man stabbed him in the stomach. Then he saw a woman show up, and the man attacked her.

Mr Puska said he did not hurt Ms Murphy and continued to say that he tried to assist her with her injuries. However, he left the area because he was feeling overwhelmed and frightened.

He said he fell into a hole and passed out for several hours.

Mr Puska said he couldn’t remember admitting to killing her in the hospital two days later in court.

He said he doesn’t remember what happened on the day he confessed, but he admitted he may have talked to the police about his family.

He confessed to telling false information to the police, including getting stabbed in Blanchardstown, because he was worried about his family’s safety. He said to Judge Hunt that he didn’t want to inform his family about the attack in Tullamore because he was afraid they would look for the person who hurt him.

Mr Puska said he didn’t run away to Dublin from Tullamore and he said he didn’t purposely change how he looks.

He said he frequently had difficulty remembering some things, and he was telling the truth, not lying.

He denied the accusation of following women in Tullamore and said that he couldn’t do that because he is married. He also said he didn’t scare Anne Marie Kelly, who spoke in court before, and he just glanced at her.

Mr Puska asked for his clothes to be thrown away because he had not seen them again.

Ashling Murphy was alive when Mr. Puska was with her, but he could see that she was dying.

He said he didn’t know how to help her because he didn’t have any medical experience. Then, he left and stayed hidden in a ditch for four hours because he didn’t have enough energy to keep going.

When someone asked Mr. Puska if he was the one who stabbed Ashling Murphy 11 times, he replied, “No, it wasn’t me. ”

Lawyer Anne-Marie Lawlor argued that Ms. Murphy scratched him in an attempt to protect herself, and his DNA was found underneath her fingernails.

He said that Ms Murphy had gloves on and any DNA found near her could be explained because he was near her.

“He said it is strange. ”

Mr Puska said he was being honest about what he remembered, but Ms Lawlor said he had always lied during the investigation and was still lying on Friday.

The trial is almost finished, and there is only one more person left to give their testimony. After that, the lawyers will make their final speeches. It is likely that the jury will start discussing and making their decision by the middle of next week.

  • Voter register exhibition exercise: Day one of records low turnout

Voter register exhibition exercise: Day one of records low turnout

The first day of the seven-day voter register exhibition in the Korle Klottey Constituency saw a low turnout. The Electoral Commission (EC) announced that the nationwide exercise would conclude on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

The purpose of this exercise is to identify and rectify errors in the new voter register system. During the exhibition, individuals can request actions like adding omitted names and removing deceased voters from the register.

Kwame Hagan, the Exhibition Officer at the YMCA center, stressed the importance of eligible voters taking the exercise seriously, as incorrect details on the voting day could lead to disqualification.

“There are no consequences or something, but it is advisable to come and check just in case. On the D-day, the election day, if you have challenges with your ID card, maybe your name, age, sex, or something, you won’t be allowed to vote. That will be the consequence. So it is better you come now because we have a seven-day exhibition, so it is better you find a time, and then you come and check. If there are any mistakes or something, you let us know,” he stated.

Similarly, the EC’s exhibition of the electoral roll is receiving a very low turnout at various centers in the Northern Region.

As of 11 am, some polling stations had only six people visiting the centers to check and confirm their names. An anonymous EC official attributed the low turnout to the lack of publicity regarding the verification process.

Additionally, the EC has not yet released the updated electoral roll for use in the 2024 elections.

Due to the absence of the new register, new voters who present their cards for verification are turned away, with the hope that the updated register will be made available before the conclusion of the five-day verification exercise.

Furthermore, the usual deployment of two Electoral Commission workers, with one responsible for the list of names and the other verifying the register with photos, has been altered. Only one polling station officer has been deployed to each center, raising suspicions among citizens of potential misconduct by the EC.

DR Congo schools closed due to employee protests

Over 100 schools in the eastern region of Beni in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been closed for nearly two weeks because teachers are protesting.

Many school staff members are choosing not to go back to school after three teachers were killed in a terrorist attack last month.

The workers, led by unions, have said they will start teaching only after the investigation into the attack is made public.

At least 26 people were murdered with big knives when a group of armed people attacked the Masosi area during the night on 24 October.

The spokesperson for the army in Congo, Captain Anthony Mualushayi, said to the BBC that five people are still not found after the attack.

The army said that a group called the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) from Uganda was responsible for the killings.

As the investigation continues on the attack, talks between the authorities and the protesting education unions have stopped.

The International Organization for Migration says that about 6. 9 million people in DR Congo have been made to leave their homes this year. Most of them are running away because of the problems caused by over 200 armed groups in the eastern part of the country.

Korle-Bu’s renal unit will be open to the public on November 6

The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has decided to reopen the outpatient department of its Renal Dialysis Unit on Monday, November 6.

This decision follows a meeting held on Friday, November 3, where it was unanimously agreed upon.

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, had directed the unit’s reopening, but it wasn’t promptly implemented. Regrettably, 19 outpatients from the renal unit have died since its closure due to financial issues.

Kanayo O. Kanayo details the meaning behind his name

Popular Nigerian actor Kanayo O Kanayo, whose birth name is Anayo Modestus Onyekwere has shared a touching story about how he got his name and the profound significance it held for his family.

In his narrative, he revealed that he was named “Modestus” by his father, and “Anayo” by his mother. This act of dual naming stemmed from the deep sense of gratitude and hope that his birth brought to his parents.

They had experienced the heartbreaking loss of two or three sons who did not live beyond the age of three. With the arrival of Kanayo, his parents celebrated and expressed their determination to please God for this precious gift of a son.

So this was why the actor was named “Kanayochukwu ma nkea, oganota” when he was born, and it translates to “Let’s pray to God that this one stays.”

Kanayo O Kanayo also disclosed that the circumstance explains the 17-year age gap between him and his only brother.

He wrote, “Do you know why I am called Kanayo OR Anayo? Two or three born before me all died before getting to three years of age. My parents were unsure if any other born after would live longer. When I came, my parents, Donatus & Isabella Onyekwere, said ” Kanayochukwu ma nkea, oganota.”

“Let’s pray to God that this one stays. Explaining the 17 year gap between me and my only brother. I came, I stayed, I am still here. No plans of checking out anytime soon.”

The actor further dropped an advice to all, stating that people should stay in their lane and play their own role based on how they came to the world, just as he is doing.

“I am on my lane playing my role, not in any race with anyone because of how I came. Stay in your lane, play your own role because of how you came. Since we didn’t come together, please respect my trade. I will respect yours. Let the eagle perch. Let the kite perch.”

One of the 72 employees killed in Gaza was disabled woman in her 20s – UN report

Taking a break from talking about Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, the UN relief agency for Palestinians, UNRWA, has announced that 72 of its workers have been killed in Gaza during the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

A young colleague with disabilities in her mid-20s, along with her family, was killed in northern Gaza, according to spokeswoman Juliette Touma speaking to the BBC.

The UN is taking care of 700,000 people who are living in shelters that are too crowded. In some of these shelters, up to 100 people have to share one toilet.

She repeated the UN’s request for a pause in fighting, stating that it should have happened earlier. Israel has said no to pleas for a stop in fighting. Many countries, including the UK and US, have not agreed with the UN’s request for a ceasefire. Instead, they are suggesting temporary breaks to allow humanitarian assistance. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, is currently in Israel.

  • Find out why you forget your dreams after waking up

Find out why you forget your dreams after waking up

Forgetting dreams after waking up is a common experience, and there are several reasons for this phenomenon:

    1. Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Sleep: Dreams predominantly occur during the REM stage of sleep, which is the deepest part of the sleep cycle. When you wake up abruptly from a dream during this stage, it can be challenging to remember the dream because your brain is still transitioning from a dream state to wakefulness.
    2. Short-Term Memory: Dreams are often stored in short-term memory, which is more fragile and easily disrupted than long-term memory. When you wake up, the contents of your short-term memory begin to fade rapidly, making it difficult to recall the details of your dream.
    3. Lack of Relevance: Some dreams may not be emotionally charged or relevant to your daily life, so your brain does not prioritize retaining them in your memory. Dreams that have a stronger emotional impact or are connected to your personal concerns are more likely to be remembered.
    4. Interference: Interference from external stimuli or thoughts about the day ahead can push dream memories out of your working memory. This interference can make it challenging to hold onto dream content as you wake up.
    5. Lack of Practice: Remembering dreams is a skill that can be improved with practice. If you rarely make an effort to recall your dreams, your ability to do so may decrease over time.
    6. Incomplete Awakening: Sometimes, you may not fully wake up before your dream memory begins to fade. As you become more alert and focused on the waking world, dream details may slip away.
    7. Circadian Rhythm: Dream recall is often better when you wake up during or shortly after REM sleep, as opposed to awakening in the middle of other sleep stages. Your circadian rhythm and sleep cycles can influence dream recall.

To improve your ability to remember dreams, consider keeping a dream journal by your bedside and jotting down any fragments or details you can remember immediately upon waking. Over time, this practice can help you become more skilled at recalling and understanding your dreams.

A religious leader from the Shia Muslim community, Nasrallah has been in charge of Hezbollah since 1992. He was instrumental in making it both a political and military power.

He has a strong connection with Iran and its leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This connection started in 1981 when Iran’s first leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, chose him to be his representative in Lebanon.

Nasrallah has not been seen in public for a long time, supposedly because he is afraid that Israel might try to kill him.

However, Hezbollah still greatly admires him and he gives speeches on TV every week.

  • 6 fruits to help you maintain a healthy brain

6 fruits to help you maintain a healthy brain

Maintaining good brain health is essential for overall well-being. Certain fruits are known for their brain-boosting properties due to their rich nutrient content. Here are six fruits that can help improve brain health:

    1. Blueberries: Blueberries are often referred to as “brain berries” due to their high antioxidant content, particularly anthocyanins. These antioxidants help protect the brain from oxidative stress and inflammation, which are associated with age-related cognitive decline.
    2. Avocado: Avocados are a great source of healthy fats, including monounsaturated fats. These fats support healthy blood flow, which is crucial for optimal brain function. Avocados are also rich in vitamins E and C, which are antioxidants that protect brain cells.
    3. Walnuts: While technically a seed, walnuts are often included in lists of brain-boosting foods. They are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for brain health. Omega-3s help improve cognitive function and may reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases.
    4. Oranges: Oranges and other citrus fruits are packed with vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant. Vitamin C helps protect brain cells from damage caused by free radicals. It also supports the production of neurotransmitters that are essential for cognitive function.
    5. Strawberries: Strawberries are another fruit rich in antioxidants, including vitamin C. They can help reduce the risk of cognitive decline as you age. The flavonoids in strawberries may also improve memory and learning.
    6. Bananas: Bananas are a good source of potassium, which helps maintain proper brain function. They also contain vitamin C and other antioxidants. The natural sugars in bananas provide a steady source of energy for the brain.

Incorporating these fruits into your diet as part of a balanced and varied intake of fruits and vegetables can contribute to better brain health. Remember that overall lifestyle, including regular physical activity, quality sleep, and mental stimulation, also plays a significant role in maintaining a healthy brain.

Blinken said that he came back to Israel to work closely with other countries and do everything possible to prevent another attack like the one by Hamas on October 7th from happening again.

But he says the specific details of how the breaks would work are still being figured out.

Blinken says that Israeli officials had some valid concerns about the pauses. They wanted to know how to use them best to give aid, release hostages, and make sure Hamas doesn’t take advantage of them.

  • 5 signs that you are destroying your relationship

5 signs that you are destroying your relationship

A healthy relationship requires effort and mutual respect. There are several signs that you might be inadvertently damaging your relationship. Here are five common signs to watch for:

    1. Poor Communication: Communication is key in any relationship. If you or your partner are avoiding important conversations, using hurtful language, or constantly arguing without resolving issues, it can harm your relationship. Effective communication is about listening, understanding, and finding solutions together.
    2. Lack of Trust: Trust is the foundation of a strong relationship. If you’re constantly suspicious of your partner, checking their messages, or questioning their honesty without reason, it can erode trust. Trust issues can lead to insecurity and jealousy, which can be destructive.
    3. Neglecting Quality Time: Neglecting your partner or not spending quality time together can lead to emotional distance. If you’re consistently prioritizing other aspects of your life over your relationship, it can create feelings of neglect and resentment.
    4. Disrespect and Criticism: Constantly belittling or criticizing your partner, either in private or in front of others, can be emotionally damaging. Respect is fundamental to a healthy relationship. Disrespectful behavior, name-calling, or constant criticism can wear down the emotional connection between partners.
    5. Taking Each Other for Granted: Over time, it’s common for partners to become comfortable in a relationship. However, taking your partner for granted by not expressing appreciation or showing affection can lead to emotional disconnection. It’s important to continue nurturing the relationship and showing love and gratitude.

Recognizing these signs is the first step to addressing relationship issues. If you notice these behaviors, consider discussing your concerns with your partner and seeking professional help if necessary. Open communication, mutual respect, and a willingness to work on the relationship can help address these issues and strengthen your bond.

Here are some foods that you should consume in moderation to maintain a healthy lifestyle:

    1. Sugar: Excessive sugar consumption can lead to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. It’s found in many processed foods and sugary drinks.
    2. Processed Meats: Foods like hot dogs, sausages, and bacon are linked to an increased risk of cancer and heart disease due to their high salt and preservative content.

    5. Processed Foods: Highly processed foods are often high in unhealthy fats, sugar, and sodium. These can contribute to weight gain and chronic diseases.
    6. Artificial Sweeteners: While considered safe in moderation, excessive consumption of artificial sweeteners may disrupt metabolism and increase cravings for sweet foods.
    7. Fast Food: High in unhealthy fats, salt, and sugar, frequent consumption of fast food can lead to obesity, heart disease, and other health problems.
    8. Excess Salt: High salt intake can lead to high blood pressure, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke.
    9. Alcohol: Excessive alcohol consumption is associated with a range of health problems, including liver disease, addiction, and certain types of cancer.
    10. White Bread and Refined Grains: These have been stripped of many nutrients and fiber. They can lead to blood sugar spikes and weight gain.

Remember, it’s not just individual foods but your overall diet and lifestyle that affect your health. A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats, combined with regular physical activity, is key to maintaining good health. It’s a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian to develop a personalized nutrition plan that suits your specific needs and goals.

Prof. Kaufmann must apologize for comments about ‘singing and dancing’ – ATWAG

The Arts and Tourism Writers Association of Ghana (ATWAG) has responded to a statement made by Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, the mistress of the National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ).

Professor Kaufmann made remarks during an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, suggesting that some schools focus on “singing and dancing” while PRESEC (Presbyterian Boys Senior High School – Legon) concentrates on serious learning and quiz preparation.

Her statement has garnered massive reactions on and off social media with many chastising her for making such an “unfair” statement against the arts industry. They have therefore called for an apology.

In their press statement released November 3, ATWAG emphasized the importance of recognizing and appreciating both science and the arts in society. The body argued that while science and math are crucial, the arts and humanities play a significant role in shaping the world by fostering creativity, critical thinking, empathy, and cultural understanding.

The statement, signed by its president, media personality, and broadcaster, George Quaye, urged Professor Kaufmann to reflect on the unintended repercussions of her statement and recognize the offense it may have caused to schools and individuals who prioritize the arts and humanities.

ATWAG demanded a public apology from Professor Kaufmann to prove her accountability and respect for all students, regardless of their academic pursuits.
The association also called on Primetime Limited, producers of NSMQ, to address the matter promptly and ensure that all participants and viewers feel valued and respected.

Jim Ike explains reason for denying Nadia Buari

Nigerian actor Jim Iyke recently clarified his “who is that” response regarding his relationship with Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari.

He was a guest on ‘Tea Talk with Toke’ last month and when asked if he knew who Nadia Buari was, he responded by saying; “Who is that?”

In a recent conversation on Starr FM, Jim Iyke addressed his statement.

According to the Nollywood actor, his responds was to the detriment of Nadia’s family and also to the detriment of himself and his family.

“If I were to glorify this conversation, and say glory things about it, it will be at the detriment of the person I am with and also at the detriment of the person she is with, which husband wants to hear about an ex talking about sexual explicitly with the person he is with”?

“People don’t even understand this was an act of respect, I am beginning to think that common sense is act of anatoma in the court of social media and people that use the internet get emotional for no reason, if a ten second clip, you refuse to see the full stretch of the clip to have an understanding of the whole matter, before you comment, they didn’t show the part where I was saying this was not the agreement, the thing was that I was suppose to have a full blown conversation about very serious issues but here you are talking about someone with 5 kids and a husband and I am also with someone”, he said.

Further, he explained that he had an agreement with Toke, the show’s host, to talk about his new project (Rent A Room), but unfortunately things began to stir up, leading to the ‘Nadia’ discussion.

“I just finished by directorial debut and they reached my team on TikTok and said they would like an exclusive with me Chidenma Okenne and Kate.

He continued; “And I said I’ll get over my team, my manager told them I will get involved on one singular reason, that we will talk about the new project movie (Rent The Room), my directorial debut I shot in Miami, Houston, then we were about a week away from our first premiere, that understanding been made, we got to the platform, Toke is an awesome host, but ofcourse she has to also stir up some controversy of sought and that’s what the show is about and the show is called the ‘Tea’ it has a way a question is coined to have a certain dignity about it but the understanding of that segment is they are going to ask you a difficult question, you refuse to answer, you’ll drink tea, you’ll have a sip of tea so I decided even alcohol at that point I was going to take it to leave this question, if I answer this question is a loose lose”, he added.

  • Chief of Hezbollah to speak out over Israel-Gaza conflict

Chief of Hezbollah to speak out over Israel-Gaza conflict

Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, a Shia Islamist group in Lebanon, is speaking to his supporters in his first public statement since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas.

The speech will probably tell us what the group plans to do next. Right now, their fighters and the Israeli army are attacking each other a lot on the border between Lebanon and Israel.

This has made people worried that the area might become involved in the war.

Until now, the violence has mostly been controlled.

Ever since the 7 October attacks by Hamas, where over 1,400 people died, Lebanon has been very worried and keeping a close eye on Hezbollah.

The group is attacking Israel more often, and in response, Israel is fighting back. However, both parties have tried to prevent a situation from getting worse and most attacks have only happened near the border.

But this might be different in the future.

Israel is continuing its attack on Gaza, aiming to get rid of Hamas. The health ministry controlled by Hamas says that more than 9,000 Palestinians have been killed in the area.

Hamas keeps asking its friends to help in the fight, and people are curious if Hezbollah will respond to those requests.

Hezbollah is a big group in Lebanon that is seen as a terrorist organization by countries like the UK and the US. This means that the decisions made by the group have a big impact on more than just the people who support them. Many people, both supporters and enemies, are eagerly waiting for Nasrallah’s speech.

Nasrallah’s location is unknown, as always.

The group is organizing public events across the country where his address will be shared. Hezbollah sees this as an important moment. They did something unusual by telling people about it five days ahead of time. And earlier this week, they made exciting short videos with Nasrallah, which made people think something important was going to be announced.
The game Nasrallah is playing where he tries to predict something.

Many people in Lebanon still remember the terrible war that Hezbollah fought against Israel in 2006, and they are concerned that Hezbollah might involve the country in another war.

Hezbollah wants to destroy Israel. They think Israel is a stronger enemy than Hamas. Hezbollah has many different weapons, including special missiles that can hit far into Israel, and a large group of well-trained fighters.

The leader of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, said that he will react very strongly if Hezbollah starts fighting in another place during the conflict. The US advised Israel not to start a big fight with the group, and has sent two large ships to the eastern Mediterranean to stop the conflict from spreading.

A big war would be very bad for Lebanon, and most people outside of Hezbollah’s followers do not want it. The country has been going through a tough financial crisis for a long time, and there is no working government because of a disagreement in politics.

Another possibility – which many experts believe is the most likely – is that the group will carry out more attacks as a reaction to Hamas’s requests, but they will only target areas in the northern part of Israel.

The Biden government is cautioning Iran, both in public and in private, not to make the situation worse. Iran supports a group called the Axis of Resistance. This group includes Hezbollah, which is the most important force in the alliance. There are also other armed groups in Iraq, Syria (led by President Bashar al-Assad), Yemen (known as the Houthis), and Palestine (represented by Hamas) that Iran supports.

We are not sure how much control Tehran has over these groups, but it is probably safe to say that they do not make important decisions without Iran’s approval.

The Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, said that Israel has done really bad things that are making people very angry, and everyone might have to do something about it. Washington, he said, is telling us not to take any action, but they continue to strongly support Israel.

A confidential person close to Hezbollah informed me last week that Nasrallah, who often speaks out against Israel and the United States, was carefully following the situation and communicating regularly with the group’s military leaders, even though he hasn’t been speaking publicly.

“Hezbollah is completely aware of every small piece of information,” the source said. “They constantly do math. “

  • Senate authorises US Navy’s first female commander

Senate authorises US Navy’s first female commander

The Senate has agreed that Admiral Lisa Franchetti should become the leader of the US Navy.

As the head of the Navy, she is the first woman to join a special group of high-ranking military officers called the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Her appointment was accepted with a vote of 95 in favor and 1 against, as the Senate made an effort to fill important positions in military leadership.

A senator from the Republican party is trying to stop the appointment of military personnel because they disagree with the Pentagon’s policy on abortion.

The person is a 38-year veteran of the Navy. They used to be in charge of the US 6th Fleet and US naval forces in South Korea, and they also commanded a group of aircraft carriers.

President Joe Biden nominated a woman for the first time to lead a military service branch of the Pentagon.

The US Coast Guard is led by a woman named Admiral Linda Fagan. However, instead of being part of the Department of Defense, it falls under the Department of Homeland Security.

Senators also took up two other important positions.

General David Allvin became the top officer in the US Air Force and Lt Gen Chris Mahoney became the second-in-command of the Marine Corps. This happened quickly because the Commandant of the Marine Corps had a heart attack.

Alabama Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville has been stopping the Democrat-led Senate from approving almost 400 military promotions for the past nine months. He opposes a Pentagon policy that covers the travel costs of service members who need to go to another state for an abortion.

On Wednesday night, the Republicans disagreed with him for the first time and loudly stated the names of 61 people to vote on each one separately, which went around his refusal.

Alaska Republican Dan Sullivan criticized Mr. Tuberville for punishing the careers of US troops. He mentioned that these soldiers had nothing to do with a policy dispute and had no authority to resolve it.

Many military officials and lawmakers believe that he is endangering the safety of the United States during the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement that both groups need to cooperate to make sure our military is fully ready and has all the resources it needs to protect the American people, especially during this difficult time.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said he is happy that some job assignments have been approved, but he also said that the extremely long wait to confirm our military’s top leaders has harmed our military’s preparedness and created unnecessary burdens on military families.

“He said in a statement that these individuals are excellent leaders who have served their country for many years. He is confident that they will continue to be great leaders of our group as they address the important national security concerns we face during these difficult times. ”

However, we still have over 370 highly qualified leaders who have had their nominations delayed for no good reason.

  • More British citizens start to evacuate Gaza

More British citizens start to evacuate Gaza

Many British citizens are leaving Gaza because the Palestinian authorities said that almost 100 of them can go to Egypt on Friday.

Over 90 individuals on the list of the Palestinian border authority are identified as British citizens in the UK section.

The parents of Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf’s spouse were stuck in Gaza since 7 October, but now they have been able to exit through the Rafah crossing, according to his office.

Approximately 200 people from Britain are thought to be in Gaza.

A few people have started to leave after some foreigners and injured Palestinians were let to go to Egypt through the crossing for the first time since Wednesday.

The border crossings in and out of Gaza have been closed since 7 October. This happened because Hamas, a group that is considered a terrorist organization in the UK, attacked Israel. Their attack caused the death of over 1,400 people and they also took more than 240 people as hostages.

After that, the Israeli army bombed Gaza a lot, blocked off the area completely, and recently attacked it on the ground from the north. The health ministry in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, says that over 9,000 individuals have died.

The list published by Palestinian authorities in the UK has 127 names. Out of these, 92 are said to be British citizens. But it is not known if the rest, most of whom are said to be Palestinian, also have citizenship in two countries.

Mr Yousaf’s in-laws, Elizabeth and Maged El-Nakla, who live in Dundee, were on the list of people waiting to leave Gaza. They got trapped there while visiting their family and couldn’t leave because the borders closed.

On Friday, the first minister and his wife Nadia announced that her parents have left Gaza. However, it is not mentioned whether they have arrived in Egypt.

The couple thanked the people who helped their parents recently, including the crisis team from the Foreign Office.

“Over the past four weeks, our family has been going through a very difficult and distressing time. We are extremely grateful for all the comforting messages and prayers we have received from people all around the world, including those from various political beliefs in Scotland and the UK,” they expressed.

Security minister Tom Tugendhat said on Friday that the British government is being careful in providing an exact number of people who can leave because they have no control over the border or the situation inside Gaza.

“He said on BBC Breakfast that we should not give people fake hope or false belief that they can cross today. ”

Mr Tugendhat said there is a list of people that have been allowed to leave Gaza. Both the Egyptian and Israeli governments have agreed to it.

He said the list has been approved by the UK government and includes British citizens, as well as their dependents or entitled individuals.

The UK has sent a team of Border Force officers to Cairo and consular officials to Arish, near Rafah. They are there to help UK citizens who have left Gaza.

Surgeon Abdel Hammad, who lives in Liverpool, was able to leave through the Rafah crossing into Egypt on Thursday, according to his family.

It was confirmed by Downing Street that two people from the UK who work to help others were able to pass through Rafah. Rafah is the only way to enter or leave Gaza that is not controlled by Israel.

On Thursday, the Foreign Office said that some British people were able to cross the border between Gaza and Egypt. However, they did not say how many.

A person who is a citizen of both the UK and the US left Gaza with her family on Thursday. She told the BBC that her husband, who is British-Palestinian, was allowed to cross the border because his name was on a list of US citizens who were allowed to leave with their families.

Dr Emilee Rauschenberger, a university professor who lives in Salford, said that the situation in Rafah is very disorganized. Many people are having a hard time getting to the southern part of Gaza because they don’t have cars or other means of transportation.

On the BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, she said that there is no process to separate people who can leave from those who want to cross but are not listed, which causes a lot of stress.

After waiting for a long time at the Gaza border, the family finally crossed over to Egypt. In Egypt, they received food and water and were checked by doctors and nurses.

Dr Rauschenberger mentioned that the British embassy informed her about 10 British people who work for aid agencies or international organizations. They crossed over on Thursday.

The UK government has given the Israeli and Egyptian authorities a list of British citizens and their family members who need medical help the most.

Dr Ahmed Abou Foul, who lives in Birmingham, said that 16 people from his family, including eight kids, are trying to leave Gaza and they are on the list for evacuation.

He feels both good and bad about the news because his sisters-in-law and their young children cannot leave since their names are not on the list.

On Friday, Dr Abou Foul spoke to BBC Breakfast and said that his family doesn’t understand why they have been left out. He mentioned that they were promised something by the Foreign Office, but it hasn’t been delivered.

He emphasized that shisha smoking is dangerous and can lead to various health complications and even death. This advice comes in response to comments made by the Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram constituency,

  • Australian woman accused of three killings amid suspected mushroom poisoning

Australian woman accused of three killings amid suspected mushroom poisoning

A woman from Australia is believed to have killed and tried to kill several people, including her ex-husband’s relatives, by feeding them poisonous mushrooms. She has been charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder.

Three individuals passed away after Erin Patterson, who is 49 years old, cooked and served a dish called beef Wellington. Beef Wellington is a meal that contains mushrooms. This incident occurred in the month of July while Erin was hosting guests.

According to the police, three murder charges are connected to the lunch incident, while three out of five attempted murder charges are related to different incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022.

Ms Patterson says she did not do anything wrong.

She said she did not mean to make her guests sick on purpose during the family lunch at her house in Leongatha on 29 July.

The toxicology reports show that the victims ate poisonous deathcap mushrooms.

Her ex-husband Simon Patterson was also asked to come to the meal, but he couldn’t make it in the end.

In addition to being charged with three murders, Ms Patterson has also been charged with two attempted murders for what happened during lunch in July.

The police have not given information about the two charges related to attempted murder. However, it is known that one of the people eating became very sick, but they did not die and got better.

Ms Patterson has been accused of trying to kill someone three times by giving them poisoned food in 2021 and 2022. No additional information has been provided.

The police suspect Ms. Patterson because she and her two children were unhurt after lunch.

On Thursday, she was arrested and the police spent a long time searching her house in Leongatha, which is about 125km (78 miles) south-east of Melbourne.

Special dogs that are trained to find things like laptops and Sim cards were present at the location.

Inspector Dean Thomas, who is in charge of the Homicide squad, spoke at a press conference about the case. He said that the case is very complicated and sad, and it may have long-lasting effects in the future.

He said that he cannot think of another investigation that has gotten so much attention from the media and the public, not just in Victoria but also in other parts of the country and the world.

Gail and Don Patterson, who are the parents of Ms. Patterson’s ex-husband, were at the lunch. Gail’s sister Heather Wilkinson and her husband Ian Wilkinson were also there.

Four people were brought to the hospital on 30 July because they were very sick, according to the police.

The Patterson couple, who were both 70 years old, and Ms. Wilkinson, who was 66 years old, died within a few days. Wilkinson, who is 68 years old, was very sick and had to go to the hospital. Thankfully, after two months of getting medical help, he got better and is healthy now.

Erin Patterson said that she went to the hospital because her stomach was hurting after eating. Doctors put a tube in her body to give her fluids and gave her medicine to protect her liver.

She said she used a combination of mushrooms she bought from a supermarket and some mushrooms she bought from an Asian grocery store a few months ago to make the beef Wellington dish.

“I feel really upset to think that these mushrooms might have caused my loved ones to get sick,” she wrote in a statement in August.

I want to make it clear that I had no intention of harming the people I loved.

Her kids didn’t come to lunch, so they ate some leftover beef Wellington the next day. But she said the mushrooms were removed from the dish because she doesn’t like mushrooms.

Ms Patterson also talked about a food dehydrator that the police found at a nearby dump. She confessed to owning it and said she got rid of it because she was very scared after the deaths.

She has been taken into custody and will go to court on Friday at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court.

Mushroom cook attempted to kill his ex four times – Police

An Australian woman is being accused of killing three people by giving them poisonous mushrooms. Court documents also claim that she attempted to kill her ex-partner four times.

Erin Patterson, who is 49 years old, was accused of committing three murders and trying to commit five others on Thursday.

The murder charges are about a family lunch she held in July at her house in Leongatha, Victoria.

Ms Patterson is still saying she didn’t do it.

She went to court for a short time on Friday. Her case was delayed until 3 May because the prosecutors need time to look at her computer stuff that the police took from her home. She did not ask to be released before the trial.

There were about six TV crews waiting outside the hearing in a small town called Morwell, which is about 60km away from Leongatha.

But except for the cameras and curious people in the area, nobody saw Ms Patterson. She was taken from her cell in the police station to the court building through a tunnel.

According to court papers that were given to the local press on Friday, the police say that Ms. Patterson tried to murder her separated husband, Mr. Simon Patterson, on three different occasions from November 2021 to September 2022.

The supposed fourth attempt happened when she made a special meat dish called beef Wellington for his parents, Gail and Don Patterson, his aunt Heather Wilkinson, and her husband Ian Wilkinson, during lunch. Simon Patterson did not go to the meal.

Erin Patterson said she used both fresh button mushrooms from a regular store and dried mushrooms she bought from an Asian grocery several months ago to make the dish.

According to the police, all four of the people she invited to her house got very sick and had to go to the hospital.

Within a few days, the Patterson couple, who were 70 years old, as well as Ms. Wilkinson, who was 66 years old, passed away. Wilkinson, who is 68 years old, had a serious illness and had to go to the hospital. Luckily, he got better afterwards.

The police think that the four people ate death cap mushrooms, which can cause death if eaten.

Ms Patterson became a person of interest when she and her two kids were found without any injuries after lunch.

But she says she didn’t mean to make her guests sick and she went to the hospital after eating too and got medicine to protect her liver.

She wrote in August that she feels very upset to think that these mushrooms might have caused the sickness of her loved ones.

The police say that this case is very complicated and sad. They think it will have an impact for many years.

On Thursday, Homicide squad Inspector Dean Thomas said that there hasn’t been any other investigation that has received as much attention from the media and the public as this one, not only in Victoria but also across the country and around the world.

MrCachalia, who was the shadow minister for public enterprises for the Democratic Alliance (DA), is believed to have disobeyed the party’s stance on the conflict.

The party chose someone to speak for them in the Israel-Gaza conflict and told other members to not say things publicly that could make the situation worse.

But on Tuesday, Mr. Cachalia posted on Twitter: “I refuse to be kept quiet. ” Israel is killing many people.

The leader of the DA, John Steenhuisen, said that the MP’s behavior is selfish and focused only on their own interests rather than the greater good, according to SABC.

Mr Cachalia said he got a letter from the DA leader firing him, but he still supports the party.

“I will keep a close look on human rights violations here and around the world, and I will always speak honestly and fearlessly to those in authority,” he said.

Sheffield City Council considers flag-flying regulations following criticism

A group of people in charge said they will think again about their rules on flags at the town hall, but they won’t say sorry for flying the Israeli flag, even though some people were upset about it.

Last month, someone climbed up Sheffield Town Hall and changed the flag to a Palestinian one.

The council said they raised the flag to show support because Hamas attacked Israel from the Gaza Strip.

Tom Hunt, the leader, admitted that he knows it made some people feel bad. However, he didn’t want to say sorry because it might make them feel worse.

The Sheffield City Council raised the flag of Israel a few days after a group of Hamas armed fighters unexpectedly entered Israel from Gaza. They caused a surprise attack, resulting in the death of over 1,400 individuals and the taking of over 220 hostages.

Mr Hunt said the decision was made earlier, before Israel fought back with airstrikes. Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry said that these airstrikes have killed over 9,000 people according to their records.

In a video shared online, you can hear people shouting “take it down” and cheering as a protester lowers the Israeli flag from the tall town hall.

This also led to a petition, where over 1,300 people signed, asking the council to say sorry for what they did. The request was given to the people in charge at a big meeting where Mr. Hunt answered to it.

The leader said that the UK government wanted towns and cities to think about putting up the Israeli flag on government buildings to show support.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, he said that the flag was raised to support the victims of the Hamas attack and it was not about choosing sides in a long-standing conflict.

He said: “We made the decision with good intentions, and of course, I and others have thought about it over the past few weeks, as the terrible things we witnessed in Israel have been replaced by the terrible things we have seen in Gaza. ”

“It was good to support each other, but I understand that this action hurt some people. ”

Mr Hunt mentioned that the council will look over how it decides when to fly the flag. He also mentioned that this decision is not easy and has caused different reactions and strong emotions.
