A pilot from Delta Airlines in the past has been officially accused of making a threat to shoot his captain while they were on a flight last year.
Jonathan J Dunn was accused in October by a jury in Utah of causing problems with the crew on a plane.
He is being blamed for scaring the captain because he wanted them to change the flight path for a passenger who is unwell.
Dunn has an upcoming court hearing scheduled for November.
According to legal papers seen by CBS on Tuesday, the BBC’s US partner, Dunn, allegedly attacked and threatened a crew member on a flight in August 2022 while also using a dangerous weapon.
According to the Department of Transportation‘s inspector general’s office, he supposedly warned the captain that they would be shot several times if the flight changed its course. The office is currently looking into the incident. The FBI and FAA have been helping.
Officials haven’t provided any more information about what happened next.
A Delta Airlines representative confirmed to CBS that Dunn was employed by them as a first officer when the incident occurred.
They also said that he doesn’t work for the airline anymore.
Dunn was given permission by the TSA, which is a part of the Department of Homeland Security, to have a gun.
The Federal Flight Deck Officer Program allows trained pilots and flight crew to act like police officers to protect passenger planes from violence.
According to the TSA, Dunn has been taken out of the program.
Getting in the way of a flight crew is a serious crime that can result in up to 20 years in prison.

Russia sets new settlement record — Ukraine
The Ukrainian Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko, said that Russia attacked 118 towns and villages in Ukraine within 24 hours. This was the most intense attack in a single day so far this year.
He said that out of the 27 regions in Ukraine, 10 regions were attacked. These attacks resulted in deaths and injuries.
A lot of the towns and cities that were affected were close to where the fighting was happening in the eastern and southern areas.
Russia has been focusing its military strength on Avdiivka, an important town in eastern Donetsk, for several weeks.
Avdiivka is being completely destroyed and broken apart. Local leader Vitaliy Barabash said that the territorial community has experienced over 40 serious attacks with shelling in the last day.
He said that two ordinary people were killed and cautioned that Russia was getting ready for another attack. Ukraine claims that Russia has been sending more soldiers and weapons to surround and take control of the town.
On Tuesday, Ukraine’s army stopped twenty attacks in the Avdiivka area.
Russia has also increased its attacks on the town of Kupyansk in the north-eastern Kharkiv region and tried to prevent Ukrainian forces from taking back land near Bakhmut.
There were also attacks in places away from where the fighting was happening. In a city called Nikopol, on the bank of the Dnipro river, a block of flats, shops, and a pharmacy were attacked. In another place called Kremenchuk, a Russian drone set fire to an old oil refinery.
The oil processing plant in Poltava has been attacked by Russia many times. Officials have reported that the plant was attacked again on Wednesday morning.
The Kremenchuk refinery used to be the largest in Ukraine. However, it was forced to stop operating after being damaged by attacks from Russia during their invasion.
Ukraine’s attempts to retake land from Russian forces in the south and east have not been successful. This is worrying because there are concerns that Western countries may become tired of the ongoing war.
One of the Ukrainian leader’s closest friends, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, talked about feeling tired during a fake phone call from two Russian pranksters. These pranksters are well-known for tricking people who are against the Russian government.
“I notice that there is a lot of tiredness, if I have to be honest, from all perspectives,” she tells the duo, Vovan and Lexus. “We are getting closer to the point where everyone realizes that we need a solution. ”
The Ukraine’s counterattack may not be going as planned or expected. It is still happening, but it hasn’t made a difference in the outcome of the conflict.
The US President Joe Biden’s team has requested Congress to give approval for a $106 billion package to support both Ukraine and Israel. This week, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that if we do not help, Russia’s Vladimir Putin will succeed.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a speech on Tuesday that people in our world tend to become complacent about success too easily.
He praised the military for reducing Russia’s control over the Black Sea. He said that by protecting our coastline and sea, we are also protecting the world.
Russian navy ships in Crimea were attacked by Ukraine, so they had to move their ships away from there.
Kyiv has attempted to establish a safe route for boats to transport grain from Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, through Romania’s waters, and finally to the Turkish coast.
Ukrainian officials said that war planes dropped explosive objects on civilian ships, even though 700,000 metric tonnes of grain managed to avoid being bombed by Russia. “According to Ukraine’s southern operational command, the defense forces still oversee the operation of the navigational corridor. ”
Russia’s Defence Minister, Sergei Shoigu, said on Wednesday that Ukraine is not winning the war, even with new weapons they received from NATO.
He said that Ukraine was having a hard time in their attempt to move into areas held by Russia, like Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Donetsk. The morale of the personnel is decreasing. He said that Russian groups were moving forward.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Adina underscored the importance of industry stakeholders taking proactive steps to establish a support system that assists women in meeting industry standards and attaining their goals.
“We should all be intentional. That is the only way we can help our female acts grow. If we see them making the effort to climb the ladder, we should support them to go up the rungs so they won’t feel left out.

“I don’t rush to make quick songs- Gasmilla
Ghanaian musician Gasmilla has expressed his desire not to be rushed into producing hit songs hastily. He emphasized his preference for taking the time to craft music thoughtfully, with the goal of creating songs that will be cherished by people for an extended period
Speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz, he said, “I don’t rush to make quick songs. I take my time with my music, crafting each one carefully. My goal is to make music that people will love for a long, long time”.
The “Telemo” hitmaker also advised against pigeonholing artists into specific music genres or styles. He suggested that creativity thrives when artists are given the freedom to explore and experiment with different genres, rather than being restricted to a single category.
“I don’t think people should box artistes into one style of music. That singular act kills creativity,” he said.
He stated that limiting artistes to a particular style can stifle their creativity and that this practice should be stopped.
Gasmilla’s remarks contribute to the ongoing discussion about the status of the music industry in Ghana and its performance in comparison to other countries, particularly Nigeria. Nigerian artists have notably made appearances on some of the world’s most prominent stages, sparking a broader conversation about the industry’s growth and global presence

Queen feeds orphan baby elephant during visit to Kenya
Queen Camilla fed a baby elephant from a bottle when she went to visit a place in Kenya called an orphanage. This place is for baby elephants whose parents were killed by poachers.
On the second day of the queen’s visit to Kenya, she assisted in feeding the elephants at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage.
She and King Charles learned about helping and healing baby elephants who don’t have any parents.
Elephants also have to worry about deforestation and drought, in addition to poaching.
If members of the royal family go to a lot of places where they can take pictures, there are not many places that could be as cute as an elephant orphanage.
If the first part of the state visit was about discussing the problems caused by colonialism, this second part was made lighter with a visit to Nairobi National Park.
A baby elephant held onto a bottle with its trunk while the Queen helped caretakers feed the orphaned elephants.
The King was chatting with the staff at the park while a young elephant was gently biting the trousers of one of the keepers.
The wildlife center cares for 316 baby elephants who have no parents and are in danger. This is because people are taking over their land and causing problems for them.
The park also has a place where a lot of illegally hunted elephant tusks were set on fire by the authorities. This was done to demonstrate the country’s dedication to ending the illegal trading of animal products.
The King showed his support for protecting the environment and making sure our resources last longer during his trip to Kenya.
He went to a United Nations office in Nairobi to learn about what they are doing to help the environment. Then, he planted a tree with a 10-year-old girl named Karen Kimani, who wrote to him about the importance of protecting the environment.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the King would give a speech at the upcoming COP28 climate change summit in Dubai.
Last year, there were hints of disagreements with the British Prime Minister’s office because the King couldn’t go to the previous meeting.
The King of an important kingdom visited Kenya. This was the first time he visited a country in the Commonwealth since he became king. During his visit, he gave a very important speech about the impact of colonialism.
He didn’t fully say sorry, but he expressed his deep sadness and regret for the violent acts done to Kenyans during their fight for independence. -

WHO applauds Egypt for allowing patients from Gaza
The leader of the World Health Organization is happy about the decision to send severely injured individuals from Gaza to Egypt.
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote on social media that he has been working with Egypt’s Health Ministry to plan and provide assistance for medical evacuations, and this support will continue.
He says: “We need to quickly increase the amount of medical help that is allowed to go into Gaza. ” We need to keep hospitals safe from being attacked and used for military purposes. The gate between Gaza and Egypt is now open for the first time in over three weeks since Israel’s blockade began.
So far, at least 20 people from Palestine who are sick and need medical help, and 110 people who have citizenship in two different countries, have left the area called Gaza.About 88 injured Palestinians and approximately 500 foreigners will be allowed to leave in the initial stage.
In Gaza, the phone and internet services are completely turned off, according to the provider Paltel.

Nana Yaa Brefo criticizes NSMQ organizers over being bias and unfairness
Prominent media personality Nana Yaa Brefo has raised concerns over what she perceives as unfairness during the final contest of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), organized by Primetime Limited.
While watching the final competition involving Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (PRESEC Legon), Achimota Senior High School, and Opoku Ware Senior High School (OWASS), she noted a specific incident where a school did not receive the appropriate marks.
Nana Yaa Brefo disclosed that after OWASS correctly answered both a bonus and their main question, they were awarded six points instead of seven.
She urged the NSMQ organizers, Primetime Ghana, to ensure transparency and fairness in all aspects of the competition to maintain the integrity of this highly celebrated event
“People should tell the organizers of the National Science and Maths Quiz [Primetime Ghana] to ensure that fairness prevails. I watched the final contest. They gave PRESEC a question, they got it wrong and it was passed on to Opoku Ware as a bonus and they answered it correctly.
“At that time Opoku Ware had 5 points so they were given a bonus of one point and they got their main question right too. So if they had 5 points earlier, after adding the two points it should have been seven, not six. Things like these don’t help so the person in charge of the marking should be careful. It’s not about anything but fairness must work,” Nana Yaa Brefo said in a video shared on her social media page.
Background
Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (PRESEC Legon) emerged as the champions of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz competition.
In the competition held on Monday, October 30, 2023, PRESEC secured their victory by outperforming Opoku Ware Senior High School and Achimota Secondary School. This marked their 8th win in the history of the competition.
After five intense rounds of intellectual competition, PRESEC emerged with a total of 40 points. Achimota followed with 28 points, and Opoku Ware came in third with 23 points.
PRESEC had previously claimed the NSMQ title in 1995, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2020, and 2022.

British scientist gives his reasons for wanting to remain in Gaza
Mohammed Ghalayini is a scientist from Manchester. He is currently in Gaza with his family because of the conflict happening there.
He said to the BBC’s Newshour show that he went to the border between Gaza and Egypt today because some of his family members, who have Jordanian passports, were told they could leave.
Mohammed found someone at the border who had a list of people allowed to leave. However, the list did not have any British people on it.
He said that the list also included people from Austria, Jordan, Indonesia, and Australia.
But Ghalayini said he will stay in Gaza, even though he has a British passport that allows him to leave. He wants to inform everyone about what is going on in Gaza, he explains.
This is a very difficult situation for the people of Palestine. Everyone I know and care about in the UK will yell at me for saying this, but ultimately we have to make our own choices in life,” he says. -

At least 20 ambulances and 150 passengers enter Egypt
There are around 350 people at the Rafah border crossing into Egypt waiting to have their IDs checked. Up until now, 150 people have crossed the border by taking buses.
There is no electronic system or passport stamping right now – everything is not working. There is currently a civilian Palestinian officer who checks passports. Only the people on a list of approved individuals are allowed to leave.
From here, they will be taken directly to Egypt where they will go through passport control.
There is another gate for cars to go through about 20 meters away from me.
We have seen many ambulances going to Egypt. They are carrying people who are very hurt.
From there, they will be moved to a field hospital that is about 10km (6 miles) away and then sent for more medical care. -

Army shoots dead killers of tourist and Ugandan guide
Soldiers from Uganda have successfully ended the lives of not less than 11 militants. These militants were responsible for killing two tourists and their tour guide at Queen Elizabeth National Park last month. This information was shared by a spokesperson from the army.
A British man named David Barlow and his South African wife, Emmaretia Geyer, were killed while on their honeymoon when they were shot by a group called the Allied Democratic Forces.
Ugandan tour guide Eric Alyai, who is survived by his wife and one-year-old child, was also killed in the attack.
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) quickly started a big operation to find the militants.
According to UPDF spokesperson Lt Col Deo Akiiki, the people who carried out the attack on Tuesday night near Lake Edward, close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, were shot and killed.
Please understand, this individual was involved in the group that caused harm to the tourists. “We are still working to eliminate all the smaller groups associated with ADF,” he said.
ADF is a rebel group connected to Islamic State. They are based in western Uganda, but they mostly do their activities in the eastern region of DR Congo.
In June, fighters from ADF attacked a school in Uganda without warning and sadly, 41 children lost their lives. -

Gaza crossing opens to tourists and injured
Ambulances with very hurt Palestinians have gone from Gaza to Egypt for the first time since the war between Israel and Hamas started.
A total of 110 people with foreign passports have been given permission to leave the area through the Rafah crossing.
The borders of Gaza have been shut since Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October.
Officials from western countries say that the border crossing at Rafah is going to keep opening for short periods of time, in order to let people with passports from other countries and civilians who have been hurt, leave.
The officials say that Egypt and Israel will make a list of the people who can go across the border. The embassies of the countries involved will be told about the list in advance so they can get ready to help their citizens.
Information reaching us is that there are around 7,000 people in Gaza who are citizens of two countries.
UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said that representatives from the British government were prepared to help around 200 British citizens as soon as they were able to depart.
Israel has been attacking Gaza for over three weeks and has now sent soldiers to fight on the ground because Hamas fighters did a surprise attack across the border. During the attack, 1,400 people were killed and 240 were taken captive.
The health department in Gaza reports that over 8,700 people have died in the area. The United Nations says that there is a shortage of food, water, fuel, and medicine because of a blockade by Israel.
On Wednesday morning, people saw ambulances hurrying to Rafah. There were injured children, and one of them had a bandage on their stomach. After the doctors checked their health, they were taken away on beds with wheels.
The BBC’s Rushdi Abu Alouf, who is currently at the crossing, was informed by Palestinian passport control officers that 88 patients who need advanced medical treatment are going to be moved to Egypt.
Around 20 people came to Egypt before the early afternoon.
Hospitals in the Gaza Strip are taking care of many injured people but don’t have enough medical supplies. So, they can’t work on these cases. According to a medic from Gaza’s health ministry named Nassem Hasan, they are unable to operate on these cases.
“Now they are being taken to the Egyptian side, and they will be checked to see if they need to go to a different hospital. ”
Many patients will go to a hospital built by Egyptian authorities in Sheikh Zuweid, which is about 9 miles away from Rafah. Some people will go to permanent hospitals in the nearby town of El-Arish or the city of Ismailia.
The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is pleased that Egypt has agreed to allow medical evacuations.
However, he cautioned that we should not lose focus on the much larger needs of many sick people in Gaza. These patients are very delicate and cannot be transported to other places.
We need to make medical aid go faster into Gaza right away. Hospitals should be shielded from being attacked or used by the military.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says that over one-third of Gaza’s hospitals are not working properly. The remaining hospitals are also struggling because they are overloaded with a large number of injured people.
Gaza’s health ministry says that over 20,000 people have gotten hurt.
On November 1, 2023, women and children who have passports from other countries are waiting to go from Gaza to Egypt through the Rafah border crossing.
Our reporter mentioned that around 500 people who are citizens of other countries and have citizenship in two countries are also expected to be given permission to enter Egypt on Wednesday.
In the afternoon, an Egyptian TV channel called Al-Qahera News showed a video of the first group of people getting off a bus. The group had many women and young children.
Mohammed Ghalayini, a British scientist from Manchester, was in Gaza visiting his family when the war started. He went with his uncle to the crossing because his uncle’s name was on the list of people who could be evacuated, according to Gaza authorities.
“People are very scared about the situation and if they get an opportunity to leave, they are trying to go away,” he said in an interview with the BBC.
“But it is also difficult to reach the border because there is not enough fuel available,” he explained. I saw people coming to the border on a cart pulled by a donkey, carrying their bags.
More British citizens who plan to cross soon include the parents of Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf.
He was happy to hear that the border was being opened, but he mentioned that his in-laws were stuck without clean water to drink and their supplies were running out quickly. -

GHAMRO royalties: MUSIGA Prez vows to fight for musicians to get what they deserve
The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons, has expressed his commitment to advocate for artists in the country when they face unfair treatment by any organization.
He is aware of grievances from musicians who believe they haven’t received their rightful payments from the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO).
Bessa Simons, as MUSIGA President, mentioned that his organization has legal professionals who will work alongside him to address this issue.
He emphasized that many people are unaware of the distinctions between MUSIGA and GHAMRO, leading to some musicians wrongly blaming his organization.
In an interview with Nana Ama McBrown on the Onua Showtime program, Bessa Simons emphasized MUSIGA’s readiness to support musicians with concerns about GHAMRO to ensure they receive the royalties they are entitled to.
“As for MUSIGA, if a musician is not treated fairly and they call us, we have to go to the aid of the musician. We will put measures in place so that anyone who wants to join MUSIGA will not suffer. Once you join MUSIGA, you have to know that you have a backbone. We have lawyers to aid any musician who is not being treated fairly in terms of their royalties [with GHAMRO] to make sure whatever is due will be given,” he said.
He continued: “We need to explain certain things for people to understand. GHAMRO is different from MUSIGA. Most people don’t know so when I go to places some individuals would say I should collect their monies for them. At the same time, we are in a position where we can encourage GHAMRO to make their work better.
GHAMRO has faced recurring criticism from musicians for failing to provide the correct amount of royalties owed to them.
Bessa Simons, newly elected as MUSIGA president, has the responsibility of addressing this issue and assisting musicians who have been receiving inadequate royalty payments from GHAMRO.

Colombians demonstrate in favour of football player Díaz’s father’s release
People in the Colombian town of Barrancas recently had a peaceful march holding candles. They were asking for the father of Liverpool footballer Luis Díaz to be set free.
Luis Manuel Díaz and his wife were forcefully taken by someone with a gun on Saturday.
The kidnappers left the player’s mother in a car when the police came closer, but they took away his father by force.
A specific kind of police team is using trained dogs to look for clues in the area.
Many people in Barrancas marched together, wearing white T-shirts with a picture of Luis Manuel Díaz, and shouted “freedom”.
“I am experiencing a strong feeling of pain within my inner self,” said Alis Amaya, a local resident, in an interview with Caracol news.
“It’s not fair that someone from our town, who is the child of a local family, should have to experience this pain and sadness,” she said.
Luis Manuel Díaz, or Mane, is a famous person in Barrancas who teaches young football players.
Videos from security cameras shown on the news seem to suggest that men on motorcycles were following the couple’s car right before they were captured at a gas station in Barrancas on Saturday.
The second-in-command of the Colombian police, General Nicolás Zapata, told reporters that “when something like this happens, it is not sudden, it is planned beforehand. ”
The Colombian government is trying harder to find Luis Manuel Díaz.
Barrancas is a town in the northern part of Colombia, in a province called La Guajira. This area has a lot of problems because there are many groups of guerrilla fighters and violent gangs operating here.
The police and soldiers are looking for something in the Perijá mountains. The mountains are in a dense forest that goes across the border of Colombia and Venezuela.
Police Chief William Salamanca said on Tuesday that they brought two sniffer dogs with expertise in searching for people in jungle areas to help with the search.
Special police teams are using helicopters and planes that have cameras which can detect heat to fly over the forest.
They have also passed out papers with a picture of Luis Manuel Díaz and a promise to give a reward of 200m pesos ($50,000; £40,000) if someone gives information about where Luis Manuel Díaz is.
On Monday, the police announced that they found some people connected to the kidnapping, but they didn’t reveal their identities.
However, they mentioned that it seems like a criminal gang took him instead of a guerrilla group.
There are many groups of bad people who do illegal things like bringing illegal things across the border, forcing people to give them money, and selling people to other places illegally. These groups are on both sides of the easily crossed border. -

British to withdraw from Gaza ‘in stages’ – Foreign Ministry
The British people leaving Gaza will probably happen gradually in the next few days, said the UK Foreign Office.
The Rafah border crossing with Egypt will be open for specific and limited amounts of time for people to pass through. It will also let severely injured people leave the area.
On Wednesday, the first group of people from other countries and Palestinians who were hurt were allowed to cross.
Around 200 British people are thought to be in Gaza.
People in Gaza were not able to leave since 7th October because of the attacks by Hamas on Israel. Many people were killed and some were taken hostage.
The health ministry in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, reported that over 8,700 people have died since Israel started bombing in response.
Israel has complete control over the air and shoreline areas of Gaza. They closely monitor and restrict the movement of people and items.
The first vehicles carrying injured people from Gaza have now gone into Egypt
Around 500 people can go to the Egyptian side of the Rafah border every day.
The border authority in Gaza has made a list of many names. These names are of people who have dual citizenship or are from other countries. They are being told they can leave through the crossing on Wednesday.
Among them are two people from Britain who work for organizations that are not part of the government. We do not know the day when they will leave.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, and Middle East minister Lord Ahmad had discussions with leaders from Egypt, Israel, and Qatar.
The Egyptian and Israeli authorities will create lists of people who are leaving, and they will inform the embassies ahead of time so they can get ready to welcome their citizens.
Mr Cleverly mentioned that teams from the UK in Egypt are prepared to help British people once they can return home.
“It is extremely important that urgent and life-saving help can reach Gaza as soon as possible,” he said in a statement on X, previously known as Twitter.
Officials from Western countries have sent a group of people to Arish, which is about 25 miles away from Rafah, to make sure they can give the required medical, consular, and administrative help.
Both Mr Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer want to temporarily stop the fighting in Gaza so that humanitarian assistance can be provided.
Humanitarian pauses are shorter than formal ceasefires. They often only last for a few hours.
According to the United Nations, these actions are usually done solely to help people in need, rather than to find permanent political solutions. -

US couple fined $28,000 in Uganda for abusing children
An American couple was punished by a court in Uganda for hurting their 10-year-old foster child and treating them very badly. They had to pay a fine of $28,000 or £23,000.
Nicholas and Mackenzie Spencer admitted to committing some crimes in exchange for getting rid of more severe accusations against them.
They were accused of moving children illegally and causing them great pain, for which they could have been imprisoned for their entire lives.
The couple put the boy to sleep on a hard wooden bed and gave him food that was not warm.
Their baby sitter told the police last December that the boy, who has special needs, was being mistreated in a very bad and cruel way multiple times.
They admitted to mistreating others, working without authorization, and staying in Uganda unlawfully without permission.
They were given a punishment of two months in jail for this crime, and they have already completed their prison term after being arrested last year.
Judge Alice Kyomuhangi from the High Court also told them to give the person who was harmed 100 million Ugandan shillings (equivalent to $26,000 or £22,000) as a form of compensation.
The child needed help and support because his father died and his mother left him alone. Unfortunately, the people being accused were not able to control their strange actions, said the judge during her decision.
David Mpanga, the lawyer for the couple, said to the Reuters news agency that the boy had mental health problems and that the couple did not take care of him well because they had no previous experience being parents.
This situation has made some child rights activists in Uganda very angry, and they think it is a joke when it comes to fairness and the law.
Activist Proscovia Najjumba wondered how the couple got away without facing consequences after admitting they mistreated a child. -

Former SA leader Zuma uses familiar tactics to stall corruption trial
The former president of South Africa Jacob Zuma is 80 years old, and he appears to be relying on familiar tactics to delay his legal proceedings.
On Thursday, he commenced his trial to face 783 charges related to corruption, fraud, money laundering, and kickbacks in a 1990s arms deal.
His legal team sought to remove the lead prosecutor, Billy Downer, despite this matter having been settled by higher courts previously.
With a new judge presiding over the case after the previous judge recused himself in January, the issue of Zuma’s attempt to replace lead prosecutor Billy Downer came up during the Pietermaritzburg High Court session.
This issue had been previously dismissed, and Zuma’s subsequent appeals had also been unsuccessful.
Zuma’s team argued that their renewed application to remove Downer, based on allegations of impartiality, was not another instance of Zuma’s well-known “Stalingrad defense,” a strategy of raising multiple legal issues to delay proceedings.
Zuma’s determination to remove Downer, who had successfully prosecuted Zuma’s friend and former “financial advisor” Shabir Shaik on similar charges in 2006, was supported by Zuma’s claim that he had lodged a “final appeal” with the Constitutional Court challenging earlier rulings that upheld Downer’s right to prosecute.
Although legal experts view the dispute over Downer’s role as irrelevant to the strength of the state’s case against Zuma, it must be resolved before the actual trial can proceed.
Zuma had previously attempted to privately prosecute Downer and legal journalist Karyn Maughan for allegedly leaking and publishing his medical condition. The Constitutional Court dismissed this case, ruling it unlawful. Nevertheless, Zuma’s legal team returned to the issue of Downer’s alleged bias.
For those following Zuma’s legal issues, the renewed effort to remove Downer from the prosecution team appeared reminiscent of arguments made two years ago to the previous trial judge.
Dali Mpofu, representing the former president, argued that the matter had become “live” again after the Constitutional Court’s involvement, necessitating the new judge’s assessment.
In response to the repeated arguments against Downer, the state expressed concern about allowing a “festival of Stalingrad tactics,” suggesting Zuma’s intent to oppose every state prosecutor in the future.
Jacob Zuma, who served as South Africa’s president from 2009 to 2018, has pleaded not guilty to charges of accepting bribes from French defense contractor Thales. These charges date back nearly 25 years and include fraud, corruption, racketeering, and money laundering. If found guilty, he could face a 15-year jail term, similar to that of Shabir Shaik.

Islamic leader denounces firing of Paul Bristow over Gaza letter
An Islamic leader said it was very wrong for a Conservative MP to be fired from the government just because he called for a stop to the fighting in Gaza.
Peterborough politician Paul Bristow was asked to step down from his position after he sent a letter to the prime minister urging for a permanent halt to fighting in order to prevent loss of life.
Number 10 said that the comments were not the same or similar. Working together and taking responsibility as a group.
Abdul-Muquaddas Choudhuri stated that Mr. Bristow did not do anything that was against the rules or inappropriate.
Mr Bristow will continue to be an MP. He used to work as an assistant to the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology, Michelle Donelan.
He sent a letter to Rishi Sunak on October 26th, after having discussions in his area, including with the Joint Mosques Council in Peterborough, about Gaza.
Mr Choudhuri, who is the leader of the council, said that the firing was really shameful and he was correct in asking for a halt to the fighting.
“Mr Choudhuri said that we are very mad and upset because he didn’t do anything wrong. ”
The government of Rishi Sunak did something very wrong and unfair by firing him only because of his words.
Mr Bristow wrote a letter on Facebook saying that his constituents are feeling very sad and hurt, and some of them have been personally impacted.
After quitting, Mr Bristow said: “I completely understand why the prime minister has asked me to resign. ”
Working together as a government is an important part of our democracy. It was a job that I really liked, so I feel sad about not being able to do it anymore.
However, ultimately I have a bigger duty to the people I represent.
Many people in my area care a lot about this issue, and I feel I can now openly talk about it from a position outside the government, rather than being part of it.
Mr Bristow has been the representative for Peterborough since 2019 and won by a margin of 2,580 votes.
He also said it was very cynical to imply that he was trying to win votes before a possible election when we’re discussing people dying.
“Those who have heard me speak about human rights and injustices during my time as a member of Parliament will notice that my current stance aligns with my previous statements,” he added.
Mr Sunak has approved “specific pauses” in the conflict to help deliver aid, but his spokesperson said he does not support a ceasefire because it would only benefit Hamas. The UK considers Hamas a terrorist group.
A spokesperson for Number 10 said that Paul Bristow has been asked to leave his job in the government because he made comments that didn’t go along with the idea of working together as a team.
Israel’s leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, said that if we agree to a ceasefire, it would mean giving up to Hamas. -

5 dangerous terrorists escape from Tunisia prison
Five inmates, who were labeled as dangerous Islamists, have successfully escaped from a prison in Tunisia. The country’s interior ministry has released their photographs and is urging citizens to provide any information they may have to help prevent “terrorist acts.”
The escape occurred from Mornaguia prison early on Tuesday, as announced by the ministry on its Facebook page. Among the escapees is Ahmed Malki, who was imprisoned for the 2013 killings of two politicians. He is also known as “the Somali” and was serving a 24-year sentence for the assassinations of secular politicians Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi. These killings in 2013 triggered a political crisis in Tunisia, ultimately leading to the government’s resignation.
The escaped prisoners also include Rayd Touati, who, according to security sources, has been involved in some of the most violent attacks that have shaken Tunisia over the past decade, as reported by Reuters.
Tunisia gained global attention as the birthplace of the Arab Spring in 2011 when it overthrew its long-serving ruler, Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali. However, the nation is currently grappling with increased political instability, particularly as President Kais Saied has sought to consolidate near-total power.
One of the most devastating attacks in Tunisia occurred in 2015 when a gunman targeted tourists staying in a popular resort just north of Sousse, resulting in the tragic deaths of thirty-eight people.

Robert De Niro storms courtroom amid squabble with former assistant
Robert De Niro yelled “you should be ashamed” at his ex-worker in a courtroom, while denying accusations of being a mean and disrespectful boss.
The famous person was talking on the second day of a legal case where both he and Graham Chase Robinson are suing each other.
De Niro said he never treated her badly, but admitted he might have called her a name when he missed a meeting because she didn’t wake him up.
“He said that he got mad once,” according to the Associated Press.
The famous actor from movies like Raging Bull and Taxi Driver admitted that he scolded her on that occasion and was angry, but he did not mistreat her.
According to Deadline, De Niro disagreed with Ms Robinson’s claims that she was constantly serving him during her time working for him, and there were moments of negativity during their testimony.
“He said she is telling us that she is in front of the building, on her knees, cleaning the floor. ”
De Niro said that there was never any inappropriate behavior or rudeness or strangeness that you’re suggesting. Then he looked at her and said, “You should be ashamed, Chase Robinson. ”
He admitted that he had asked her to scratch his back a couple of times when he couldn’t reach it, but he said it was never meant to disrespect her.
In addition to other things, Ms. Robinson mentioned that he once asked her to bring him a martini from Nobu restaurant while she was in an Uber, late at night.
“Maybe it could have happened,” De Niro responded, as reported by the Times, explaining that using an Uber was reasonable.
The actor was asked why he called her two times to ask her to buy a bus ticket for his teenager. He replied by saying “So. ” and claimed that he didn’t know she was at a family member’s funeral when he called.Tasks that are typically associated with women.
In 2008, Ms Robinson started working as the actor’s helper. Later on, she got promoted to be the vice-president of a company called Canal Productions, where she oversaw the production and financial aspects.
She departed in 2019 and took legal action against the two-time Oscar recipient, seeking $12 million (£9. 8 million) in a lawsuit.
Ms Robinson says she did not receive enough money from her employer because she is a woman. Her boss also made disrespectful comments about her gender. He treated her like a personal assistant rather than as an equal colleague. In addition, he gave her tasks that are usually associated with women, such as sewing clothes and doing laundry.
De Niro said in court on Monday that her claims were “all nonsense”.
He is taking Ms Robinson to court for $6 million because he believes she moved over $450,000 in airline miles to her own account without permission. He also claims she used company money for personal expenses like food, travel, and other services. Additionally, he says she watched a lot of Netflix while at work.
Her lawyers have stated that his lawsuit contains many untrue accusations. The trial in New York is going to continue for two weeks. -

I will fight Kelni GVG with the last drop of my blood – Franklin Cudjoe(FLASHBACK)
THIS ARTICLE WAS FIRST PUBLISHED ON JUNE 25, 2018
Founding President of policy think tank, IMANI-Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has reiterated his resolve to fight the controversial Kelni GVG contract.
The outspoken policy analyst describing the contract as a “grand theft’’, said he will relocate to a different country should the current suit pending before the court go in favour of government.
He was delivering a lecture on “Identifying Policy Gaps and Right Headline, Right Content’’, at the African Journalists for Economic Opportunities (AJEOT) at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
He slammed the Communications Ministry for failing to respond to the questions IMANI-Africa has demanded about the contract.
He insisted that the contract is duplication of jobs and a needless drain on the county’s scarce resource.
Two citizens have dragged government to court to halt the implementation of the contract with IT firm, Kelni GVG, for the real-time call traffic monitoring.Connect Kelni GVG, meet me in court – Bentil warns telco
The two, Sara Asafu-Adjaye and Maximus Amertogoh want the Minister of Communication, the National Communication Authority, and the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Attorney General, the Ghana Chamber Telecommunications and the telecommunications networks to cease the traffic monitoring.
The Plaintiffs are also requesting from the court ‘’an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the respondents, whether, by themselves, their servants, workmen, hirelings, agents, privies or any persons claiming under through them, whosoever described from implementing and operationalizing the Common Platform until the final determination of this suit.’’
Kelni GVG deal is fraudulent, illegal – Inusah Fuseini
Commenting on the issue and the court case, Franklin Cudjoe said the contract which is estimated at $89 million is actually $178 million.
He said, ‘’the Ministry of Communication went to contract an unknown entity. As we speak we do not know the entity. Stop believing the $78 million, the actual figure is $178 million; that is the contract worth.’’
Franklin Cudjoe stressed the deal will invade our privacy and said, ‘’I may relocate if the ruling is different. This not to threaten the judge or anyone, but I will fight this deal till the last drop my blood.’’
AJEOT is being organised by Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation (ILAPI) in partnership with Network for Free Society, ATLAS Network and Language of Liberty Institute.

FLASHBACK: KelniGVG deal a ‘create-loot-share’ vehicle to ‘rape’ taxpayers of GHC1bn – Sam George
The KelniGVG common platform deal meant to police revenue made by the telcos is a “white elephant” which is “only siphoning money from suffering Ghanaians under the pretext of telecommunication revenue assurance”, Ningo-Prampram MP Samuel Nartey George has said.
Speaking at the seventh edition of the Moment of Truth series of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr George said a gang of government people have teamed up and using the common platform to steal $180 million from the Ghanaian taxpayer in 10 years.
“For those of you familiar with the Netflix series, Money Heist, this is Ghana’s version”, Mr George told journalists, adding that it is “a clear, calculated attempt to fleece the taxpayer to the tune of $US90 million over a 5-year period with another $US90 million for an extension of 5 years”.
“This amounts to a whopping $US180 million from our pockets”.
“At today’s conservative exchange rate of GHS5.65 to $US1, this comes to GHS1, 017,000,000 – over one billion Ghana Cedis (GHS1 billion).
“This amount is equivalent to the entire cost of the Kasoa Interchange and its ancillary projects or the state-of-the-art Ridge Hospital. This amount of money can build 113 complete Mahama E-blocks at the cost of GHS9 million per school.
“It can also build seven (7) more brand-new district hospitals like the spectacular Dodowa District Hospital at a cost of $US25 million each. Furthermore, this amount of money would build 1,271 6-unit classroom blocks at the current price of GHS800, 000. These 1,271 classroom blocks would mean almost 5 of these 6-unit classroom blocks for each of the 275 constituencies in Ghana”, he computed.
These examples, he noted, “Illustrate how much has been created to be looted and shared by apparatchiks of the Akufo-Addo administration. The KelniGVG contract was signed by Mr Ken Ofori-Atta and Madam Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (Ministers of Finance and Communication, respectively)”.
“Their proximity to President Akufo-Addo is public knowledge. IMANI Ghana and several others yelled, wailed and cried to no avail. Where there is create, loot and share, Nana Akufo-Addo hears no evil. Indeed, he even sees no evil even if it is within his government. This is the problem that a government of family-and-friends by family and friends; and for family and friends visits on a nation”.
“Strangely”, the lawmaker noted, “The Minister of Communication, recently, at a Meet-the-Press briefing, made fallacious claims about savings due to the common monitoring platform. I challenged her on the floor of Parliament and she is yet to find her voice in response to the facts.
“If the Minister claims the KelniGVG platform has saved GHS205 million from sim box fraud, who has been prosecuted or even put before court? Where are the sim box machines that should have been confiscated as we saw under President Mahama, which led to the prosecution and imprisonment of the former boss of Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), Dr Alex Tweneboah?” he asked.
Mr George said: “The Communication Minister also claimed that the platform has detected under-invoicing by the telcos. The facts show the contrary. In fact, in one instance, the platform billed GHS17 million less than the manual GRA assessment of one of the telcos. The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunication has challenged the minister to provide proof of under-invoicing by any of their members since the 20th of November 2019. Again, she has gone mute. Under-invoicing is criminal and you would have expected to see penalties and sanctions imposed on any such entity if that was the case”.
He wondered: “The entire KelniGVG platform is sitting in the premises of the NCA. The question we need to ask is: how much is KelniGVG paying for rental of the floor space? How much are they paying for utilities (light and water)? Are they using a state facility for private gain and getting paid on top?”
“Even though we, in the NDC, support growing Ghanaian businesses, we believe in doing so in accordance with the laws of the land. There are multiple breaches of the procurement laws and the entire procurement processes that led to the signing of the contract between the company and ministers Ken Ofori-Atta and Ursula Owusu-Ekuful. The process is replete with irregularities. In effect, a few people have ganged up and are raping the public purse with reckless abandon while Ghanaians are saddled with, in excess of GH8 million every month to the individuals behind KelniGVG and their sponsors in government”. -

Former NFF president Pinnick sues Davido for N2.3bn over breach of contract
The former president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has filed a lawsuit against Afrobeat musician David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido. The lawsuit is seeking N2.3 billion in damages and a public apology to be issued by Davido over a four-day period, in connection with an alleged breach of a performance agreement.
The lawsuit was filed in the Delta State High Court in Effurun. According to the lawsuit, Davido was contracted to perform at the 19th edition of the concert on October 6, 2023, for a fee of N70 million. However, despite receiving full payment, Davido failed to appear at the event.
Brownhill Investments is seeking damages totaling N2 billion, legal and professional fees of N150 million, and an additional N30 million for the cost of filing the lawsuit. The company is also requesting the court to compel Davido to issue a public apology on his social media accounts and in two national daily newspapers for four consecutive days.
The lawsuit outlines that in early 2023, Davido initiated contact with Brownhill Investments to secure a booking for the concert. Both parties agreed on a fee of N70 million, which was duly paid in full on April 6, 2023. Furthermore, Davido had also recorded a promotional video for the event.

70% of road crash deaths in India were caused by speeding – Transport ministry
Last year, the government released data showing that 168,491 people died on India’s roads.
The country only has 1% of all the vehicles in the world, but it has the most deaths from accidents compared to any other country.
In 2022, there were more deaths compared to the previous year, according to a report by India’s transport ministry. The increase in fatalities was about 9. 4%
Speeding caused the death of 70% of all people, which is seven out of every ten.
There are many road accidents in India because people drive badly and the roads and vehicles are not well taken care of.
The report, which came out on Tuesday, said that the country lost 462 lives each day and 19 lives every hour to road accidents last year.
In the country, 443,000 people were hurt in road crashes. The number of accidents went up by 11. 9% from 2021 to 2022. The report said that most of these accidents happened because cars were hit from behind or because the person who hit them ran away.
According to the report, Tamil Nadu, a state in the south, had the most accidents. Madhya Pradesh, a state in the central region, had the second highest number of accidents.
It also said that in 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic started, the country did temporarily go against the usual situation.
According to the transport ministry, there was a significant decrease in accidents and deaths, especially in March and April, when the country enforced a lockdown to stop the virus from spreading. This decrease was unlike anything seen before. But the numbers increased once more.
The government department said it has been trying hard to reduce the problem by making roads better, increasing watchfulness on highways, and giving strict punishments for breaking traffic rules.
Last month, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari spoke to the MoneyControl website and said that the government alone cannot solve the traffic problem unless people start obeying traffic rules with more seriousness.
“He said that we are not happy and have not noticed a decrease in accidents because we need to change how people behave. ”
A study by the World Bank reveals that road accidents cost the Indian economy around 5-7% of GDP each year.
More than half of the people who got hurt are walking, riding bikes, or riding motorcycles. And almost 84% of all the deaths are among people who are between the ages of 18 and 60 and are working. -

Israel and Bolivia cut diplomatic ties over military actions in Gaza
Bolivia is the first country in Latin America to end its diplomatic relationship with Israel because it believes Israel used too much force in their military actions in Gaza.
The nation asked for a stop in fighting and promised to give help to Gaza, which is currently isolated.
An Israeli official said that the action was giving in to terrorism.
Lior Haiat said the Bolivian government is working together with the terrorist group Hamas.
Bolivia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Freddy Mamani said that the government decided to end its relationship with Israel because they strongly disapprove of the aggressive and unfair military attacks happening in the Gaza Strip.
He said the country wanted Israel to stop blocking important things like food and water from getting in.
Gaza has been trapped by Israel for many weeks, and people can only get important help occasionally from Egypt’s Rafah crossing.
Mr Haiat commented that Israel disapproves of Bolivia’s support for terrorism and its alliance with the Iranian regime. This reflects the values of the Bolivian government.
People are saying that Iran helped Hamas with their October 7 attacks. Iran’s leaders have celebrated and praised the violence, but they say they were not involved.
Other countries in Latin America have also started taking diplomatic actions against Israel, not just Bolivia.
Chile’s President Gabriel Boric announced on Tuesday that he is calling back the country’s ambassador in Tel Aviv to have discussions. This decision was made because of the unacceptable actions that Israel has taken in the Gaza Strip, which violate International Humanitarian Law.
Chile strongly dislikes and is worried about the military operations happening in Gaza. They believe that these operations are hurting innocent Palestinian people and treating them unfairly.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro said the same thing on social media.
Mr Petro said that he has chosen to ask our ambassador in Israel to have a discussion. He also mentioned that if Israel continues to kill many Palestinians, we cannot stay there.
Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva requested a halt to fighting. After hearing about a recent attack by Israel in Gaza, Lula commented on X, saying that it’s the first time he’s seen a war where most of the people who died are children. Please, oh please, stop. Most of the 8,500 people who died in the war in Gaza, according to the health ministry run by Hamas, were adults. However, this number also includes 3,500 children.
Israel has been continually attacking Gaza after the deadly Hamas attack on October 7th, which resulted in the deaths of 1,400 people and the abduction of at least 239 people.
On Tuesday, the US announced that 66 trucks successfully brought aid to Gaza. However, charities are concerned that this may not be sufficient.
The boss of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said that before the war, around 500 trucks would go into Gaza every day.
Bolivia and Israel started being friends again in 2019. It stopped working with the country in 2009 when President Evo Morales was in charge, because they were against what Israel was doing in Gaza.
On Monday, Bolivia’s President Luis Arce said that Israel’s actions in Gaza were very wrong and against the rules of war. He said this after meeting with the Palestinian ambassador to Bolivia, Mahmoud Elalwani. -

‘Kill Ewes’, attack churches, JB & Ahmed Suale deaths; 7 past ‘sins’ haunting Ken Agyapong
As the political arena heats up in Ghana, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, who has a history of contentious statements and actions, has stepped into the spotlight as he embarks on his flagbearership campaign, in preparation for the upcoming Presidential primaries.
Despite the enthusiasm and confidence in becoming the next flagbearer and subsequently assuming the role of the President of the nation, the weight of his past actions, often labeled as ‘sins,’ threatens to overshadow his aspirations.
The MP has gained notoriety for his provocative statements. He has consistently been at the center of various controversies, stirring up debates and attracting both support and criticism for his outspoken views. In this piece, The Independent Ghana highlights ‘7 past ‘sins’ of Kennedy Agyapong’ which is likely to haunt his political career.
Firstly, ‘Kill Ewes statement’: Mr Agyapong is reported to have fueled tribalism by declaring war on all Ewes living in the Ashanti region by inciting NPP activists in the region to attack Ewes with machetes and cutlasses. Despite his attempts at providing clarifications, this incident appears to be one that Ghanaians may find difficult to forgive him for.
Ahmed Suale’s death: Ahmed Hussein Suale was an investigative journalist who died on Wednesday, 16 January 2019. He was killed by unidentified men on motorbikes who shot him three times, twice in the chest and once in his neck in his vehicle. Prior to his demise, Mr Agyapong had publicly attacked Mr Suale on his media platforms.
The legislator had shown a photo of the undercover journalist on TV, disclosed his place of residence and made comments that suggested that Ahmed was a ‘bad boy’ and anyone who sees him could be aggressive towards him. When Ahmed was eventually murdered by unknown gunmen months later, Mr Agyapong became one of the first to be accused of complicity in the incident.
Leaking Afia Schwarzenegger: The MP in 2016 threatened to leak the nude photos of Ghanaian socialite Afia Schwarzenegger. Speaking on Oman FM’s Boiling Point, he said that he was going to release Afia Schwarzenegger’s naked pictures the following week.
Death of Former MP J. B Dankwah: Hon. JB Danquah was murdered in his home on 9th February 2016 at Shiashie in Accra. He was the MP for Abuakwa North on the ticket of NPP. Daniel Asiedu aka Sexy Don Don, the main suspect in the murder of the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu later confessed to the crime.
Daniel in his confession mentioned the names of those who hired him to end the life of the late JB Danquah. Hon Kennedy Agyapong was mentioned as having a hand in the contract killing of the former MP by the suspect Sexy Don Don. The MP has since been fighting for his reputation by denying the claims.
Attacks on Anas: Ken Agyapong has never seen eye-to-eye with Anas Aremeyaw Anas arguing repeatedly that the modus operandi of the journalist was unethical and dangerous. A number of Anas’ projects notably ‘In The Eyes of God’ – about judicial corruption, ‘Number 12’ – about corruption in Ghana football and particularly Galamsey Fraud expose, only upped the ante relative to attacks from the lawmaker.
It was with the galamsey piece that Agyapong dragged Anas’ boss Kweku Baako Jnr, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading GUIDE into the picture, relative to attacks and accusations of corruption and complicity in galamsey. Baako eventually won a defamation suit against Agyapong when an Accra High Court awarded him GHC130,000 in damages, way below the GHC25 million he had sought.
However, in a recent development, Anas also dragged Mr Agyapong to court in a defamation suit, which the investigative journalist lost.
NPP is useless comment: The MP has been actively involved in critiquing his own party, occasionally resorting to hurling insults at some party members. Mr Agyapong who has put a tag on himself as chief financier of the NPP, therefore, does whatever pleases him, has previously (in 2015) described the party as “useless” and members as “stupid, fools and idiots.” This statement incurred the wrath of many in the party and appears to be one of the ‘unforgivable sins’ committed by the now aspiring Presidential candidate.
Attack on Churches: Like most Ghanaians, he believes in the existence of a supreme being who created heaven and earth, however, what he abhors is the manner in which some people practice their faith. He is convinced that while some genuine pastors exist, there are charlatans who parade as men of God and have majored in fleecing unsuspecting people of their monies. He has thus taken it upon himself to campaign against such persons.
Mr Agyapong in recent past years waged a strong campaign against some popular pastors in the country of which Head Pastor of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, fell victim. Kennedy Agyapong who said he was on a mission to expose fake pastors who have taken advantage of innocent Ghanaians and are living lavishly off their sweat, ensured the arrest of Mr Obinim.
Mr Obinim was charged with the offences of publication of false news and forgery of documents contrary to sections 208 and 159 of the Criminal and other offences Act, (1960) (ACT 29) respectively. The MP who says he is still not happy with developments in the religious space, has vowed to renew his attack on the so-called men of God.
Despite these ‘sins’ Mr Agyapong remains resolute in his quest to become the next leader of the party. Will he be forgiven by the party or will he face potential repercussions for his actions? Well, time will tell.

7 Ghanaians arrested by Burkina Faso military
Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to help rescue some seven (7) Ghanaians who are residents of the communities of Bador and Tampizua in Bawku Municipality who have been arrested by the military authorities in Burkina Faso.
In a letter to the Foreign Affairs Ministry dated October 30, he noted that efforts to locate them have proven futile.
The identities of the said arrested Bawku residents are as follows: Abdulai Bagare, Mumuni Seidu, Issaka Nyikabo, Abdu_Kadir Salifu, Jebrilu Braimah, Bande Mamudu, and Bande Shaibu.
These individuals, he said, crossed over into Burkina Faso on Friday, October 13, 2023, to Bittou District in Burkina Faso with the assistance of the Assembly Member for Kanyere a suburb of Mogande also in Bittu District in Burkina Faso, Adamah Bidigah.
Background of how the individuals were arrested per Mr Mahama Ayariga’s letter
Fulani herdsmen grazed cattle belonging to the missing persons in a village called Kanyere in the Bittu District on the Burkina Faso side of the border between Bawku in Ghana and Burkina Faso. Military men came to the area and fired warning shots and the Fulani men run away and left the cattle. Two Fulani men are reported to have died in the incident. The Burkina Faso military drove the cattle to Bittu District capital (Bittu).
Subsequently, announcements were made that the owners of the cattle should come and identify them so they will hand the cattle back to them. The Assembly Man for Kanyere, Adamah Bidigah, conveyed the message of the announcement across to the Ghana side.
The missing persons took a letter of introduction from the Municipal Chief Executive of Bawku Municipality and took along to Bittu to claim the animals. The Assembly Member for Kanyere directed them to the location of the animals. The location was identified as Nohow, a village also in the Bittu District.
The missing persons set off to the said location with the aim of identifying their cattle for retrieval. They were last seen standing with Burkina Faso military personnel on the road to Noaho village. Other claimants of cattle headed to Noaho have said they saw them standing with the Burkina Faso military personnel under circumstances that appeared as if they were being interrogated by the military personnel but everyone was afraid to interfere so they all passed them by.
According to Mr Ayariga, he has asked senior Ghanaian military personnel to look into the matter but all efforts have yielded no results.
“I have tried using former Burkina Faso Members of Parliament in the ECOWAS Parliament where I served with them and there has not been any positive results.
“I therefore request the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to activate the diplomatic channels with the military authorities in Burkina Faso to locate and return the missing persons,” the letter added.

A Chinese company by name Tanyun Manganese Industry Group (TMI) is expected to commence manganese mining operations in Nsuta in the Western Region of Ghana.
This is after the company has successfully acquired the majority shares in the in the Ghana Manganese Company Ltd (GMC).
Though the terms of the acquisition is not made public, the Chinese company is expected to construct the a bauxite refinery at Nsuta in the Western Region.
According to reports, the refinery should cost $450 million and it a collaboration between GMC and Tanyun Manganese Industry Group (TMI), a Chinese company.
The contract details are yet to be brought before stakeholders for scrutiny.
Already, feasibility studies have been completed, paving the way for the first phase of the refinery project to commence before the end of the year.
The Vice-President of TMI, Xu Libin, who disclosed this, said the green-field project was expected to be completed and operationalised within 12 months.
He made this known in Tianjin, China, last Friday when the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, held bilateral talks with some Chinese companies with investments in Ghana’s mining industry at the 25th China Mining Conference.
The TMI delegation at the bilateral talks included the Managing Director of the GMC, Jurgen Eijgendaal.
The Ghanaian team included the Chairman of the Minerals Commission Board, Barbara Oteng-Gyasi; the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Minerals Commission, Martin Ayisi; the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy, Samuel Atta Akyea, and the Technical Advisor on Mines to the Minister, Benjamin Aryee.
Prospects
Mr Libin explained that the decision to set up the refinery was to add value to manganese instead of exporting it in its raw form as has been over the decades.
In terms of its economic value, he said the refinery had an average annual sales revenue of about $1.3 billion, excluding tax, and an annual pre-tax income of $174.4 million.

Remove your tatoos, they are demonic- Ajagurajah warns Black Sherif
Controversial religious figure, Ajagurajah, has sternly cautioned BET Award-winning artist Black Sherif regarding his tattoos. The Ajagurah movement’s founder expressed concerns that Black Sherif’s tattoos might associate him with an occultic group, potentially carrying spiritual significance.
Bishop Ajagurajah had previously indicated support for Black Sherif’s controversial symbols in an interview with Andy Dosty on Adom TV a few months ago
He emphasized the importance of a public figure safeguarding themselves from negative influences. Prophet Ajagurajah further asserted that the image exhibited at Black Sherif’s U.S. concert represents the demon Azazel.
“It’s not Baphomet. This one is called Azazel. Azazel is a fallen angel who came down to teach us how to do makeup, enchantments and magic.
He is part of the guard angels who slept with women, according to the book of Enoch.“ -

86-year-old accused shooter who locked himself in post office detained by Japanese police
The police in Japan arrested an 86-year-old man who they suspect of being a gunman. The man had locked himself inside a post office with two people he was holding hostage. Before that, he had hurt two people at a hospital.
The police informed CNN that a man was arrested in Warabi, a city near Tokyo, Saitama prefecture, after a long standoff.
Tokyo’s police sent a special team to the post office because a suspect was hiding there and they couldn’t reach two female workers.
According to NHK, neither of the women were hurt in the incident. According to NHK, one woman left the post office about five hours after the incident started, while the other woman managed to escape a few hours later.
The police told CNN that a young woman who was being held captive is now out of danger.
The situation where hostages were taken and a conflict occurred at the post office happened shortly after a shooting at a hospital in a nearby place called Toda. In the shooting incident, a doctor and a male patient were injured.
Police think that the 86-year-old person was part of that earlier event. The police said the shooting happened at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. The suspect escaped from the hospital and went into the post office, which is about 1. 5 kilometers away
Today, Mayor Fumihito Sugawara shared on social media that a man believed to have a gun was trapped inside the post office. He cautioned people to stay away from that place.
On Tuesday, there was a fire in a building near the hospital. Investigators think that the person who shot the gun lived in one of the apartments. According to NHK, nobody got injured in the fire.
There is very little gun violence in Japan. The country has very few incidents of gun crime because it has strict rules about owning guns.
Last year, the former leader of Japan, Shinzo Abe, was killed in Nara city while giving a campaign speech. This was a surprising and upsetting incident for the country. -

China’s former premier’s passing prompts sadness
The unexpected death of China’s former Premier Li Keqiang has caused a lot of sadness and grieving throughout the country. But for a lot of people, it seems like an opportunity to express their frustration with Xi Jinping, the leader of China, and the way he has been leading the country.
Li, who was supposedly the second-in-command to Xi for ten years until March of this year, passed away from a sudden heart attack on Friday in Shanghai, as reported by state media. He was 68 years old.
The Chinese people were very surprised when he died only a few months after he stopped working. Many people have posted messages on the country’s internet, and there are lots of bouquets left in makeshift memorials outside his childhood home and other places from his past.
On social media and in handwritten notes among the flowers, many people remembered Li for the dreams he had but didn’t achieve, instead of his accomplishments in politics.
Many people believe that Li, who is not as powerful as Xi, has been ignored and not given much importance. He is thought to be one of the least strong leaders in the history of Communist China. As a result, many people who are grieving have been thinking about Li’s unfinished ideas. They believe that if these ideas had been followed, China would have taken a different direction in the last ten years.
“People are taking advantage of this opportunity to show dissatisfaction with Xi Jinping,” said Alfred Wu, a professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore. “It’s a type of anger – anger towards the current government. ”
Li was very smart and wanted to make changes in China. People thought he might become the leader of the country. However, he became the premier, a position typically responsible for managing the economy.
Usually, that role gives someone a lot of power in the second biggest economy in the world. However, Li’s power to make decisions slowly decreased because Xi started to have more control and moved away from the ruling Communist Party’s way of sharing leadership.
Many people see Li as a potential leader who can change China to be less influenced by ideology, less controlling, and more open to market changes, entrepreneurship, and connections with other countries.
People who were grieving shared Li’s own words to honor him, but also to indirectly criticize Xi. One of the most talked about things was a promise from Li that China’s changes and openness will keep going, just like how the Yellow River and Yangtze River keep flowing in one direction. Another thing Li said that got a lot of attention was a metaphorical reminder that a leader’s actions will be remembered by history: “The heavens are observing what people do. ”
According to Zhang Lun, a professor at the University of Cergy-Pontoise in France, people are expressing their dissatisfaction with Xi’s policies from the past ten years. These policies include stricter control over people’s beliefs and less personal freedom. There are also constant political campaigns that remind people of Mao Zedong, the person who started Communist China.
Many people were frustrated because of Xi’s strict zero-Covid policies for three years. These policies hurt the economy and made millions of Chinese people go through frequent testing, quarantines, and citywide lockdowns. The strict rules were suddenly removed after big protests happened all over the country.
Zhang said that people were feeling frustrated because they were confused and hopeless about what would happen in the future. This was caused by China’s economic decline and its decision to focus more on itself and less on the rest of the world. All these feelings were looking for a way to be expressed.
Zhang, who went to the prestigious Peking University with Li in the late 1970s after Mao’s Cultural Revolution ended, said that even though Li wasn’t very important in history or politics, he gave people a chance to express their unhappiness. In a time when honesty is ignored and fake, important, and meaningless statements are dominant, the fundamental principles that Li Keqiang followed have become highly valuable. “He said that it shows how angry, hopeless, and unhappy people are with the way things are in life, and they blame Li for it. ”
Among the people who supported him, Li was well-known for being a leader who cared about those who had less and was not afraid to advocate for them, even if it went against what his political party preferred. Many people on social media thanked Li for saying that 600 million Chinese people, or about 40% of the population, still only make 1,000 yuan ($137) per month. Official propaganda claims that poverty has been eliminated, but Li’s statement challenges that.
“There was a comment that said, ‘Only he understood me,’ but it got removed afterwards. ” “I haven’t had a steady job for the past four years. ”
In the past ten years, Chinese people got used to seeing Li in difficult and sad times. He was frequently sent as the top party official to offer sympathy and greet people affected by natural disasters, like floods, earthquakes, or pandemics.
When Covid-19 started spreading in the city of Wuhan, Li went there first, about two months before Xi visited the city when the virus was mostly under control.
Many people remembered Li for being down-to-earth and understanding. They posted videos of him talking and having fun with young people while walking around. This was very different from how Xi usually acts in public, as he is often formal and serious.
In a popular video that spread widely at the time and was shared again this week, Li was seen without a face mask at a university in Yunnan province in May of last year. This happened when many local governments were implementing strict measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, as seen in Shanghai’s two-month lockdown.
Saying goodbye to a group of students, Li wished them good luck in finding their dream job. This gesture was seen by many young people as a reassuring reminder that they are dealing with high levels of unemployment among their age group.
Xi has told young people to stop being spoiled and to learn how to endure difficult times.
In another old video that was posted online this week, Li was asked by a university student for a handshake. The student wanted to show off to others and used crude internet language that the government would not approve of. But Li reached out his hand to the student and asked with a friendly expression: “Did you achieve what you wanted by bragging. ”
Wu, who is knowledgeable in Singapore, said that Li displayed a compassionate side that is not commonly witnessed in China’s bureaucracy nowadays.
Everyone appears to be like a robot, without any emotions or understanding for others. But he appeared different – and people still remember that,” he said.
In China, when a top leader dies, it can be a difficult and hard time for the ruling Communist Party. When people are not allowed to openly criticize the government and face harsh punishment for doing so, they may use the opportunity of mourning a well-liked official’s death to express their unhappiness with the leadership. When Zhou Enlai, who was very well liked and was the premier under Mao, passed away in 1976, the sad public participated in big remembrance events to express their unhappiness with the Cultural Revolution, which had caused ten years of turmoil, aggression, and confusion.
Over ten years later, the death of Hu Yaobang, a leader who wanted changes but was not listened to, caused many people to feel very sad. This sadness grew and led to protests for more democracy in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square and many other cities in China.
A group of university students started a movement which ended violently, with the military killing hundreds, maybe even thousands, of protesters. This led to a time of everyone having to think and act the same way.
The Communist Party, led by Xi, has gained more control over surveillance. They are now taking action to limit and influence how people pay homage to a recently passed leader both on the internet and in real life.
On social media, people have deleted videos and posts that showed Li’s ideas for change or any other qualities that could make Xi look bad.
Weibo, a popular site for short messages, stopped users from looking for the love song “Sadly, It’s Not You” by Malaysian singer Fish Leong. Lately, when a leader from any country passed away, some people from China showed their feelings by using a sad song about relationships ending.
Outside Li’s childhood home in Hefei, which is the capital of the Anhui province in eastern China, there were government workers who were guarding the crowd of mourners. They were asking people to not stay there for a long time and were checking the cards attached to the flower bouquets. This information comes from posts and photos shared on social media by people who were present at the scene.
The government was watching and being present at other important places where people were grieving, like Li’s family home in a small village in Anhui and a square in Zhengzhou city, where Li used to work as an important leader 20 years ago.
In some cities, people have been leaving flowers and messages in random places like universities, parks, and public squares. However, some of these have been removed, as reported on social media.
Li’s body will be burned in Beijing on Thursday. Flags will be lowered halfway across the entire country, according to the official Xinhua news agency on Tuesday. Xinhua praised Li for being a great member of the Communist Party of China (CPC), a devoted communist soldier, and an exceptional leader of the Party and the country.
Zhang, an expert in France, said that the Chinese authorities will be careful in dealing with public feelings and will try to avoid doing anything that might make people more angry. Although the mourning for Li is not expected to cause a large protest movement right now, it could still contribute to future episodes that may lead to one.
Zhang said that after people express their unhappiness for a short time, their anger will continue to grow. Li’s death has destroyed any chance of having another option, and this feeling of hopelessness will keep getting worse and make the future more uncertain. -

Israel claims to have stopped Houthi airstrikes near Red Sea in Yemen
The Israeli military reported on Tuesday that they stopped an attack from Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are supported by Iran. This has created concerns in the region that the Israel-Hamas conflict could expand.
A brig is a person who has a military rank. Gen is short for general. Yahya Saree, a representative for the Houthi forces, said on Houthi-owned Al-Masirah TV that they have launched ballistic missiles and drones at targets in Israel. This is their third operation to support the Palestinian people.
He also said that they planned to do more strikes until the “Israeli aggression” stopped.
“Our military launched many missiles, drones, and winged missiles at different targets in Israel,” he said, referring to all of Israel as areas that are occupied.
The Houthis are a group in Yemen who follow the Shia branch of Islam. They are involved in a war within the country against a coalition supported by Saudi Arabia. They have shown their support for the Palestinians and organized protests in Yemen against Israel’s attack in Gaza.
On Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they used their Arrow defense system for the first time to stop a missile that was shot from the Red Sea area.
The Houthis used a very powerful missile in their attempted attack, and the Arrow defense system was used to try and stop it.
Israeli fighter jets also stopped and dealt with what the IDF identified as potential risks in the sky. The IDF said they stopped all threats before they reached Israel.
The recent attacks on Israel show that the Iran-backed Houthis are becoming more aggressive. This is happening despite the United States trying to prevent a potential war in the Middle East.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said on Tuesday that there are more conflicts occurring in the region. He also mentioned that members of resistance groups will not stay quiet about America’s strong support for Israel and they will not wait for advice from anyone.
“He said that we must take advantage of the remaining political chances to end the war. If things get worse, both sides will be in danger and suffer the consequences,” as stated by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Houthi attacks on Tuesday happened after another failed attempt two weeks ago. On October 19, a US warship close to the shore of Yemen destroyed four cruise missiles and 15 small flying machines over a span of nine hours. These weapons were traveling north along the Red Sea. This information was shared by a US official who is knowledgeable about the incident. The way they were moving showed without a doubt that the objects were going towards Israel, the official said.
Brigadier, who is the press secretary of the Pentagon, General Pat Ryder said that the missiles were shot by Houthi forces that have support from Iran in Yemen. These missiles were possibly aimed at targets in Israel. It is very uncommon for the US to intercept Houthi missile launches.
Iran has been giving training and weapons to several groups in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza, despite being under strict sanctions imposed by the US for a long time.
Hezbollah, a strong Shia military group, and Israel have been having small fights every day on the border between Israel and Lebanon since the war started. In October, the US sent two groups of ships to the eastern Mediterranean to stop Iran, Syria, and Hezbollah from attacking Israel.
Since the recent war in Gaza began after Hamas caused a lot of destruction on October 7, there have been occasional attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria too. -

Israel has started its ground operation in Gaza
The Israeli army started their complete ground operation in Gaza on Friday. They sent tanks, bulldozers, infantrymen, and combat engineers into the area.
But instead of moving quickly towards Gaza City, Israeli forces have been moving slowly towards the enclave’s most populated area.
Based on videos, photos, and reports from CNN teams at the scene, it seems that Israeli forces entered three main areas across the border.
The first one is located at the top left corner of the strip. On Saturday morning, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shared a video showing bulldozers moving sand near the seashore. There is a hole in the fence surrounding Gaza, and it seems like Israeli vehicles have entered through it.
However, there are also signs that Israeli forces are near the ocean in a more southern area than this. On Sunday, a video went around showing Israeli soldiers holding a flag on top of a vacation hotel. CNN identified the location of the hotel as Atatra, which is about two miles south of the fence.
On Tuesday, the Israeli army shared pictures of soldiers going further into the Strip, close to the Al Shati, or Beach, refugee camp. This means they are now only about three miles away from the center of Gaza City.
Israeli forces seem to have entered Gaza from the northeast corner of the Strip near the town of Beit Hanoun, according to videos and satellite images. A video shared by the Israeli military and found by CNN shows many soldiers walking on sandy ground. In another part of the video, a large machine called a bulldozer clears a path in the sand to remove dangerous explosives.
Videos show empty buildings that are badly damaged because of the Israeli airstrikes before the ground operation. There are no people shown in the video, which means they either left or went away before the Israeli military came. However, a news team from CNN that was close to the Israeli border heard occasional gunfire from machine guns, and on Tuesday morning they heard multiple explosions coming from the same place.
The CNN team said that there are more Israeli military vehicles in the area, and it seems like the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have extended their ground operation.
Finally, on Monday, a new video was found suggesting that there might be another way to enter about 10 miles down to the south, on the eastern side. The video, recorded by a Palestinian journalist named Yousif Al Saifi, showed an Israeli tank shooting at a car on the main road in Gaza Strip called Salah Al Din road.
CNN found the exact location of the video near the Netzarim junction, which is named after an Israeli settlement. Israel sees this location as important to control, as it helps separate the north and south parts of Gaza.
The junction is located near Gaza City and close to Wadi Gaza, a waterway. Israel has advised people in Gaza to move south to Wadi Gaza for safety from attacks. -

Otumfuo strikes again; declares sub-chief wanted
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the revered king of the Ashanti people, has initiated a search for one of his subchiefs, Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani, over alleged land sales in Kwapra. In a video circulated by Opemsuo FM, a Manhyia-based radio station, the Asantehene expressed his frustration and ordered that Kumani be brought before him.
The Asantehene’s displeasure with Kumani is evident in his words: “Kwaprehene knows why I’m looking for him. He knows I am looking for him because of the land issues. That’s why he is dodging me with the excuse of sickness. And he thinks he is smarter than me.”
He also highlighted a past incident where Kumani had sold land that belonged to him without providing the promised payment. The Asantehene, however, had forgiven him at that time. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed his disappointment at the situation, stating, “I won’t take any excuse from him. When he was young, he sold my land without bringing me my money. I forgave him, and you see the issue has returned to me.”
In addition to addressing Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani, the Asantehene directed his reprimands toward the kingmakers of Kwapra for not providing adequate counsel to Kumani, emphasizing the need for them to guide him to change his ways.
This development signifies the king’s commitment to addressing the land dispute and his expectation that Kumani will be held accountable for his actions.

Manchester police express remorse for removing hostage poster
In the UK, More noteworthy Manchester Police has said it laments any offense caused after online entertainment pictures seemed to show its officials pulling down banners of Israelis who are being kept prisoner by Hamas.
Colleague Boss Constable Wasim Chaudhry said “we share concerns raised in regards to the expulsion of banners in the North Manchester region and can affirm an examination is in progress”.
The banners have been set up around the nation, and follow a format seen across the world. They show the names and faces of the 240 prisoners held by Hamas shooters.
Other web-based entertainment film showed Metropolitan Cops eliminating hijacked banners from the front of a drug store in north London.
In a proclamation the Met said “we thoroughly comprehend the worries raised, however we accept the officials were acting sincerely”.
It said it eliminated them to forestall any heightening as it accepted the banners had been placed on the drug store “as a counter” for remarks made on the web.
Adam Ma’anit from Brighton – whose 18-year-old cousin Maayan was killed, and her dad Tsachi seized – said the police conduct was “sad”.
“My cousin’s face is on those banners,” he said.
“He needed to watch his little girl killed. We simply need to bring him home. It seems like an additional affront to have the banners with his face pulled down in the city of the UK.”

Daily habits that cause infertility
Here are some daily habits that may contribute to infertility:
- Smoking: Smoking, both for men and women, can significantly reduce fertility. It can damage eggs and sperm, and even lead to premature menopause in women.
- Excessive Alcohol Consumption: Heavy alcohol use is associated with reduced fertility. It can disrupt hormone levels and decrease sperm quality.
- Poor Diet and Nutrition: A diet high in processed foods, sugar, and unhealthy fats can negatively impact fertility. Maintaining a healthy, balanced diet can improve your chances of conception.
- Lack of Exercise: Being overweight or obese can impair fertility, and so can a sedentary lifestyle. Regular exercise helps maintain a healthy weight and supports reproductive health.
- Stress: High levels of stress can affect hormonal balance and interfere with ovulation in women. Stress management techniques can be beneficial for those trying to conceive.
- Inadequate Sleep: Sleep is essential for hormonal balance. Poor sleep can lead to irregular menstrual cycles in women and decreased sperm quality in men.
- Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Untreated STIs, such as chlamydia or gonorrhea, can lead to infertility by causing damage to the reproductive organs.
- Excessive Caffeine Intake: While moderate caffeine consumption is generally considered safe, excessive caffeine intake may impair fertility.
- Overuse of Over-the-Counter Pain Medications: Overusing non-prescription pain relievers, like ibuprofen, can affect fertility.
- Toxic Chemical Exposure: Exposure to certain chemicals, such as pesticides and industrial chemicals, can harm fertility.
It’s important to note that infertility is a complex issue, and individual experiences may vary. If you’re concerned about your fertility, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare provider for a comprehensive evaluation and guidance. Making positive changes to daily habits and lifestyle can improve your chances of conceiving.
