How Ken Agyapong’s son, wife are enjoying gov’t deals – Opare Ansah reveals

Former Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare-Ansah has revealed that NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has benefited more from the NPP party than any other member.

In an interview with Peace FM, he added that Ken serves as the Chairman of Ghana Gas, and his wife holds the position of Chairperson at Ghana’s Shippers Authority.

Furthermore, Ken’s son is involved in the oil industry and is engaged in oil-lifting activities with The Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).

He further mentioned that rather than being content within the party, Ken is going around making accusations because things didn’t go in his favor.

In a recent interview on Wontumi FM, Opare-Ansah criticized Kennedy Agyapong, accusing him of harboring bitterness. He claimed that Agyapong’s decision to run for the NPP flagbearer position was motivated by bitterness, stemming from Dr. Bawumia’s refusal to grant him $500 million worth of annual contracts in exchange for his support.

The NPP is set to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 presidential election on November 4, 2023. The candidates in the race include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

GHC25K every month, UK and Spintex houses, cars awarded to Asamoah Gyan’s wife in divorce settlement

In a highly-anticipated legal battle that has stretched over three years, the Accra Court has issued its long-awaited verdict in the case involving Asamoah Gyan, a prominent Ghanaian footballer, and his former spouse, Gifty Gyan. The court’s decision, announced on October 31, 2023, marks a significant milestone in this high-profile dispute.

The core of the legal clash centered on Asamoah Gyan’s initial denial of paternity for the three children he shared with Gifty Gyan, along with his pursuit of an annulment of their marital union. The court’s judgment has firmly sided with Gifty Gyan.

The key outcomes of the court’s decision are as follows:

Paternity Confirmed: The court definitively established that the three children in question are indeed the biological offspring of Asamoah Gyan, settling the protracted paternity dispute.

Monthly Maintenance Payment: In accordance with the verdict, Asamoah Gyan has been directed to provide Gifty Gyan with financial support, amounting to GHS25,000 monthly, for the upbringing of their children. Notably, this financial support does not encompass supplementary expenses, such as school fees, medical and dental care, and the cost of flight tickets for the children.

Property Compensation: As part of the court’s ruling, Gifty Gyan has been awarded ownership of Asamoah Gyan’s Mansion located in the United Kingdom and a four-bedroom house situated in Spintex, Accra, as compensation.

Vehicle Transfer: The court has ordered the transfer of two vehicles, a Luxury BMW and an Infiniti, which were previously owned by Asamoah Gyan, to Gifty Gyan.

Land Award: Furthermore, Gifty Gyan has been granted ownership of a substantial parcel of executive land, originally acquired by Asamoah Gyan for the establishment of a filling station.

Marriage Annulment: The court’s decision includes the annulment of the marriage between Asamoah Gyan and Gifty Gyan, based on a legal technicality brought forward by Asamoah Gyan’s legal team. They argued that Gifty Gyan had been previously married for visa purposes before her union with Asamoah Gyan.

“Marriage of Convenience”: It was revealed in court that in 2002, Asamoah Gyan had consented to a “marriage of convenience” to facilitate Gifty Gyan’s visa application to the United Kingdom for medical treatment. At the time, Asamoah Gyan was facing financial difficulties, which led to this arrangement. Gifty Gyan had entered into this marriage with her London-based relative for visa purposes.

Minor Marriage: The court acknowledged that Gifty Gyan’s prior “marriage of convenience” had occurred when she was a minor, rendering it legally void. Nevertheless, the court proceeded to annul the marriage between Asamoah Gyan and Gifty Gyan while assigning properties to Gifty Gyan.

Children’s Paternity: The court’s ruling firmly confirmed that, despite the annulment of the marriage, the children initially contested by Asamoah Gyan are indeed his biological offspring, as substantiated by a court-ordered DNA test. This decisively dismissed Asamoah Gyan’s allegations of infidelity and paternity issues.

  • TekStart Africa corruption scandal: Martin Amidu questions Kissi Agyebeng’s silence

TekStart Africa corruption scandal: Martin Amidu questions Kissi Agyebeng’s silence

Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has raised questions about his successor, Kissi Agyebeng, for not completing the investigation into the ‘NLA/TekStart Africa Limited Procurement Malpractice and Abuse of Public Office for Private Profit,’ which he initiated.

According to Amidu, the investigation, which implicated the CEO of the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) and other officials at the authority, was nearly finished before he left office.

However, Agyebeng has taken no action on it and did not include it in the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s half-year report. Amidu explained that all the witnesses and suspects involved in the scandal, where government officials at the NLA, including a CEO, are accused of using their positions for private profit in a deal worth over US$25 million, had been interrogated.

Kissi Agyebeng needs to explain the reasons for consistently not listing as part of his half yearly report the almost completed investigation of the suspected 2018 procurement contract giving rise to procurement malpractices and abuse of public office for private profit involving the NLA, and the alleged Chinese entity of Messrs. Shenzhen Xinguodu Technology Limited to supply 30,000 units of NEXGO N5 Smart Point of Sales Terminals (POSTs) for an approved Contract sum by the Board of Twenty-Five Million, Twenty-Three Thousand US Dollars (USD25,023,000.00) which was allegedly represented in Ghana by its agent, Tekstart Africa Limited.

“Witnesses and suspects had been interrogated with witness statements, and suspect statements on caution taken from them, as the case may be. The relevant documentary materials had been obtained through requests for information and production of documents and filed on the case docket. The progress of the investigation is verifiable from the station diary of the OSP, and diary of action in the investigation docket,” he wrote.

He added, “The investigation was left with the interrogation of the three (3) prime suspects, Mr Derek Appiah, the Managing Director of TekStart Africa Limited, one Venesa Marfo associated with TekStart Africa Ltd, and finally the CEO of NLA to be completed and a decision made whether to prosecute or not”.

Before leaving office, Amidu, a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, pointed out that the evidence indicated that over GH¢20 million was transferred from the NLA to TeskStart, even though no formal agreement was in place.

“The evolving investigation made it necessary to investigate the financial affairs of TekStart Africa Limited, a Ghanaian company reasonably suspected of collaboration with public officers in the NLA to use their public offices for private profit. The investigation evidence evolved showing the transfer of a sum of GH₵20,413,864.37 on 18 December 2018 from the NLA account at United Bank for Africa to TekStart Africa Limited’s account at the same bank. It transpired that there was no agency agreement or relationship whatsoever between Shenzhen Xinguodu Technology Limited and Tekstart Africa Limited. The evolving investigation also pointed to the irresistible fact that Tekstart Africa Limited was ordering the subject matter of the procurement contract directly from suppliers in Hong Kong and supplying them to the NLA and taking suspicious levels of fees for clearance and transportation from the Port of Tema to the NLA as though it was the agent of Shenzhen Xinguodu Technology Limited.”

Amidu went on to state that Kissi Agyebeng was the lawyer of the Managing Director of Tekstart Africa Limited, Derek Appiah; suggesting that he (the current special prosecutor) was the one who used all kinds of means to prevent the interrogation of the director.

He reiterated that the special prosecutor must explain to Ghanaians why the case has stalled.

Read Marting Amidu’s full statement on the NLA/TekStart Africa Limited Procurement Malpractice and Abuse of Public Office for Private Profit investigation below:

THE NLA/ TEKSTART AFRICA LIMITED PROCUREMENT MALPRACTICES AND ABUSE OF PUBLIC OFFICE FOR PRIVATE PROFIT

The evolving investigation made it necessary to investigate the financial affairs of TekStart Africa Limited, a Ghanaian company reasonably suspected of collaboration with public officers in the NLA to use their public offices for private profit. The investigation evidence evolved showing the transfer of a sum of GH₵20,413,864.37 on 18 December 2018 from the NLA account at United Bank for Africa to TekStart Africa Limited’s account at the same bank. The investigation was left with the interrogation of the three (3) prime suspects, Mr. Derek Appiah, the Managing Director of Tekstart Africa Limited, one Venesa Marfo associated with Tekstart Africa Ltd, and finally the CEO of NLA to be completed and a decision made whether to prosecute or not. Kissi Agyebeng wrote letters to the OSP as the lawyer for Mr. Derek Appiah, the Managing Director of Tekstart Africa Limited. Kissi Agyebeng’s client, Mr. Derek Appiah, from June to August 2020 consistently used subterfuges and excuses to avoid being interrogated. On the only or so occasion he came to the OSP he was accompanied by junior lawyers who indicated that Kissi Agyebeng insisted he wanted to be present in person for the interrogation of Mr. Derek Appiah to take place. Kiss Agyebeng confirmed this in writing to the OSP. The fact of his writing was recorded in the Letters Received Register of the OSP, the Station Diary, and also in the Diary of Action on the investigation docket.

In the course of the investigations the link between the NLA, Tekstart Africa Limited, and one Venesa Marfo emerged from my personal UK sources. This led the OSP to the discovery of a Sales Notice for the sale of Plot No. 5205 The Madison, 199-207, Marsh Wall, London, E24 9YT at an agreed price of £1,600,000 (One Million and Six Hundred Thousand Pounds Only) with the purchasers as Kofi Osei-Ameyaw/Venesa Marfo with addresses at 9 Sunflower Lane, Teshie Nunguah with telephone number 233-244-56-3894 and Hse. No. 8 7 th Road Tesano with telephone number 233-246-83-2924 respectively. The vendor of the property was listed as: LBS Properties Limited of the UK. The purchaser’s solicitor was one Samuel Tetteh Quaye in the UK. The transaction from the investigations later fell through but the findings were relevant for the OSP’s investigations of the abuse of public office for private profit at the NLA. The investigations further disclosed that coincidentally, one Venessa Marfo had been involved in several procurement transactions at the NLA including the NLA/Tekstart Africa Limited NEXGO transactions.

The people of Ghana, therefore, deserve an explanation for the reasons for which Kissi Agyebeng decided not to list the NLA/Tekstart Africa/ Venesa Marfo reasonably suspected corruption cases as part of his half-yearly report under Section 3 (3) of Act 959 since he has chosen to list all major pending cases which are not required to be listed for public consumption to give the false appearance that the persons involved must already be liable for corruption offences under Act 959.

The 31-year-old is blamed for deceiving financial backers and loan specialists and taking cash from clients, with a few ex-partners affirming against him.

That’s what he rejects and says he was acting sincerely however committed errors.

Investigators pushed Mr Bankman-Fried, a high-profile person of note as top of the now-old firm FTX, about his past remarks and online entertainment posts.

In them he guaranteed that safeguarding client and financial backer assets was “vital” for FTX while his crypto exchanging firm, Alameda Exploration, was acquiring billions of dollars from FTX clients.

More than four hours of addressing on Monday, the previous crypto extremely rich person kept a considerable lot of his reactions to examiners brief, frequently answering with a short yes or no, or “I don’t recall precisely” or “I don’t know”.

The lead examiner, Danielle Sassoon, likewise squeezed him on his mission for more cryptographic money guidelines in Congress, standing out it from a later remark in which he offended controllers with an irreverence.

Mr Bankman-Fried pushed back when Ms Sassoon squeezed him on whether he “made major decisions” as President.

“I called some of them,” he answered.

The court heard before in the preliminary from Caroline Ellison, Mr Bankman-Seared’s ex and appointee, that Alameda at last took about $14bn (£11.4bn) from FTX clients, involving it for ventures and reimbursing moneylenders.

His appearance at the New York court follows 12 days of arraignment declaration in which close previous partners – who have proactively confessed – gave proof.

During the preliminary, these observers, who incorporate Ellison, have risen up out of long stretches of addressing with their validity apparently to a great extent sound.

Examiners have attached Mr Bankman-Seared to choices to take cash kept at FTX and use it to reimburse loan specialists at Alameda Exploration, purchase property, and make ventures and political gifts.

They say he attempted to conceal the exchanges between the two firms and their cozy relationship – and legal counselors have buttressed their charges with instant messages, bookkeeping sheets and tweets.

He has argued not blameworthy to seven government charges including wire extortion, protections misrepresentation and tax evasion and could confront a lifelong incarceration in jail whenever sentenced.

Mr Bankman-Fried’s protection group has contended he was understanding “sensible” strategic policies, as his organizations developed quickly.

After the breakdown of his organizations last year, he conceded in media interviews, including to the BBC, to administrative missteps yet said he never expected misrepresentation.

Interrogation is supposed to progress forward with Tuesday.

  • Galamsey Economy expose: “There is no proof that Adu Boahen received the money he requested – Nana Akomea

Galamsey Economy expose: “There is no proof that Adu Boahen received the money he requested – Nana Akomea

The Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has come to the defense of Charles Adu Boahen, who was accused of influence peddling following an investigative report.

Akomea pointed out that there is currently no concrete evidence proving that the money requested by Adu Boahen in the recorded conversation was actually paid to him.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had recently cleared Charles Adu Boahen of allegations related to influence peddling, which stemmed from an undercover investigation report titled “Galamsey Economy” by Tiger Eye P.I.

This report implicated Adu Boahen, a former minister of state, who was allegedly seeking money from supposed investors. In the recorded conversation, Adu Boahen appeared to request an appearance fee for the Vice President and accepted a cash gift of $40,000.

Nana Akomea emphasized during a discussion on TV3 that while Adu Boahen may have appeared to seek an advantage from the situation, there is no solid evidence to confirm that the requested monies were paid to him.

“He sought to profit from the opportunity; he didn’t set out to go and commit the crime. But the opportunity was presented, and he said, Wow, I can let you go and see the vice president and many others. But in return, you have to do something for me that was clearly captured on tape. What we also know happened was that the transaction did not follow through.

“For the transaction to be followed through, the money should have been paid to him; then he would have been seen collecting the money, then the legal case is stronger. But in this case, we don’t have any evidence that the monies that he demanded to go and pay to the vice president and invest in zone business were paid,” he said in an interview with TV3

He underscored the moral implications and legal consequences surrounding the matter. He pointed out that while the situation might raise moral concerns, the legal framework regarding influence peddling in Ghana is not explicitly clear.

“The issue is quite delicate. If we were talking about morality, I don’t think that there would be any dispute because there seems to be a certain moral shortfall. But if we are talking about legality, then the law is not very clear about influence peddling,” he explained.

According to him, the mere solicitation of funds does not inherently equate to a crime.

Nana Akomea emphasized that the crucial element of criminality hinges on the actual receipt and use of such funds for the alleged purposes, which, in this particular case, lacked concrete evidence.

“The person is using their influence with you to procure an advantage for somebody.
Morally, if you hear that your friend has gone to take money or some gift from an applicant for a job, and when your friend comes to speak to you, it is because he has been influenced.

Even if he even said to the person, if you give me GH¢ 100, and I can give it to the person, and then the person will facilitate and get you a job, morally you will be upset that a friend of yours will go and involve themselves in that transaction using your name.

“But if they actually collected that money and didn’t bring it to you, or even brought it to you (which makes you an accomplice), then some crime has been committed,” he added.

  • I comprehend pleas for ceasefire in Gaza – Starmer

I comprehend pleas for ceasefire in Gaza – Starmer

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has said he comprehends requires a truce in Gaza, however contended it was not the “right position” right now.

In excess of 60 Work MPs have required a truce, yet Sir Keir demanded his position of requiring a philanthropic respite was “the main solid methodology”.

He said a respite would permit help to get in to Gaza and for regular citizens to leave.

He contended that a truce would leave Hamas’ framework in salvageable shape, empowering them to complete future assaults.

Tending to a group of people in London, the Work chief had looked to suppress the developing pressures in his party over the contention.

City chairmen Sadiq Khan and Andy Burnham, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar and 15 frontbenchers are among the people who have veered from the authority partisan division on the issue.

Something like 250 councilors have additionally required a truce, with around 30 councilors leaving the party over the administrative role’s on the conflict.

In the interim, Andy McDonald has been suspended as a Work MP, over what the party portrayed as “profoundly hostile” remarks at a supportive of Palestinian meeting.

Following his discourse, Sir Keir was over and over inquired as to whether Work frontbenchers separating from the party position would be sacked.

He said the party was bound together on needing to see an “mitigation of this dreadful circumstance” and that he would “connect delicately” with his partners’ interests, yet didn’t say that they would be focused for breaking with the partisan division.

Sir Keir said his way to deal with the contention had been driven by a longing to shield Israel’s more right than wrong to safeguard itself against fear based oppressor assaults and the privileges of Palestinians “trapped in the crossfire”.

“While I comprehend requires a truce, at this stage I don’t really accept that that is the right position now.

“Hamas would be encouraged and begin getting ready for future brutality right away.”

He said a compassionate respite was “the main trustworthy methodology that gets any opportunity of accomplishing what we as a whole need to find in Gaza – the dire lightening of Palestinian misery”.

Inquired as to whether he accepted Israel was keeping global regulation, Sir Keir said that would be chosen by legal counselors at the appointed time and it would be “rash” for lawmakers to make untimely declarations.

As the Work chief went out, where he was giving the discourse, his vehicle was mobbed by a gathering of supportive of Palestine demonstrators.

On Monday Andy McDonald, a previous shadow serve under Jeremy Corbyn, was suspended as a Work MP over remarks he delivered in a discourse at a favorable to Palestinian meeting.

The MP for Middlesbrough told nonconformists on Saturday: “We won’t rest until we have equity. Until all individuals, Israelis and Palestinians, between the stream and the ocean, can live in tranquil freedom.”

He said his words were planned as “a sincere supplication for a finish to the killings” in the district.

In any case, the expression “between the stream and the ocean” – which alludes to the land between the Waterway Jordan and the Mediterranean – is deciphered by some, including Israel and most Jewish gatherings, as certainly requiring the annihilation of Israel.

This understanding is questioned by a few favorable to Palestinian activists who say that the vast majority reciting it are requiring a finish to Israel’s control of the West Bank and barricade of Gaza, not the obliteration of Israel itself.

A Work representative said Mr McDonald’s remarks at the end of the week “were profoundly hostile, especially during a period of rising discrimination against Jews which has left Jewish individuals afraid for their security”.

In any case, the suspension has offended the left, who contend Mr McDonald’s words had been distorted, as well as the Work Muslim Organization.

Yet, the greater risk for Sir Keir is that by multiplying down on dismissing requires a truce, some shadow clergymen past the left gone under strain from individuals and networks and choose to leave, starting a potential chain response.

In the mean time, Moderate MP Paul Bristow has been sacked from his administration job as a pastoral helper, subsequent to requiring a truce in Gaza.

DR Congo court lifts obstacle to Katumbi’s goals

The highest court in the Democratic Republic of Congo has rejected a lawsuit that tried to prevent Moïse Katumbi, an opposition leader, from running in the presidential election by raising doubts about his nationality.

MrKatumbi, whose father was Italian, is considered one of the top competitors against current leader Félix Tshisekedi in the upcoming December election. Having two nationalities is against the law in Congo.

On Monday, the court decided that the lawsuit did not have a valid basis.

There is growing disagreement in the country before the upcoming December elections. President Tshisekedi wants to be elected for a second time.

Mr Tshisekedi will also be competing against Martin Fayulu, who came in second place in the last election. He will also be up against former Prime Minister Adolphe Muzito and Nobel Prize-winning gynaecologist Denis Mukwege.

Over 20 people want to become president, but the government will decide on the final candidates in November after they check everyone’s qualifications.

Noel Tshiani, who also wants to be president, asked the court to stop Mr. Katumbi from running for president. He said that Mr. Katumbi is not a citizen of Congo.

According to reports, Mr. Katumbi’s father had ancestors from Greece and Italy.

The Constitutional Court decided that the lawsuit against Mr. Katumbi was dismissed because the person who filed it did not have the legal right to do so.

MrKatumbi’s lawyer, Herve Diakiese, said that there is no evidence to support the claim that his client has any citizenship other than Congolese.

MrDiakiese said that this is the ending point of a very long fight against unfairness, falsehoods, manipulation, and false information.

People who support Mr. Katumbi were seen having a happy time outside the court in the capital city, Kinshasa, after the decision was made.

MrTshiani has suggested a new law that would allow only people whose parents were both from Congo to have important political positions, like being the president.

The proposed bill from 2021 has been given approval by the parliament, but it hasn’t been presented for discussion yet.

Critics say the bill is a plan to support Mr. Tshisekedi’s attempt for a second term as president. However, the president has stated that the proposed law should not be used to prevent other people from running for office.

Political parties in the Democratic Republic of Congo have shown their disagreement with the proposed bill, and religious leaders from the Catholic Church have called it discriminatory.

MrKatumbi, who is a rich businessman and used to be in charge of the copper-rich Katanga area, left DR Congo in 2016. This happened because the previous President, Joseph Kabila, accused him of hiring mercenaries. President Tshisekedi’s government made this accusation.

He was also given a three-year prison sentence, but he was not present for the trial. He is not allowed to come back to the country and participate in the 2018 election.

MrKatumbi came back to his home in 2019 because the accusations against him were dismissed.

  • US Army advised Maine suspect to abstain from gun ownership

US Army advised Maine suspect to abstain from gun ownership

The US Army said that the person who shot and killed 18 people in Maine should not have been allowed to have a weapon because he behaved strangely. They had warned about this three months before the shooting happened.

The Army said that Robert Card, who is in the army reserves, was checked in July and they found that he is not able to be sent out for military deployment because they have concerns about his well-being.

Afterward, he stayed in a mental hospital for two weeks before being let go.

Card was discovered deceased on Friday, putting an end to the search for him following the shooting that took place at a bar and bowling alley last Wednesday.

Over twelve people were hurt in the shooting that took place in the city of Lewiston.

In July, the military declared that Card was not suitable to handle a weapon, ammunition, or take part in firing exercises, according to Army spokesperson Lt Col Ruth Castro.

She mentioned that the Army Reserve Command tried many times to get in touch with the reservist.

According to an article on Monday, CNN reported based on sources they did not name, that the army had requested the local police to investigate Card because they were worried he might suddenly become very angry and hurt a lot of people.

Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry said on Monday evening that in September, a deputy couldn’t find the reservist at his home in Bowdoin on two occasions, which caused an alert throughout the state.

He also mentioned that his office was contacted in May by some family members of Card, who were worried about his mental health and ability to access weapons.

A person working in his office told Card’s Army Reserve training group about something.

There was another incident where Card supposedly hit his friend – another soldier – while they were arguing and threatened his US Army base in Saco, Maine.

The many missed signs on Card have caused a discussion about Maine’s “yellow flag” law, which was approved in 2019.

The law says that authorities have to follow a few steps before they can take guns away from someone who is considered a threat to themselves or others.

This is considered a less strict version of a “red flag” law, which means it has fewer rules for a court to temporarily take away someone’s gun.

Card was not allowed to enter a gun store in a recent situation.

The owner of a store that sells guns in Maine, Rick LaChapelle, said that a person who is 40 years old came to his store on August 5th to pick up a device called a silencer that they bought on the internet.

He had to complete a document that asked: “Have you ever stayed in a mental hospital. ”

Card said yes, according to Mr.

The workers checked the form and told Card that he was not allowed to buy the silencer because of his answers on the questionnaire.

Police said that Card was found dead on Friday night near a river about 10 miles away from Lewiston. It appeared that Card had shot himself.

  • Deep rifts prior to important UN climate negotiations

Deep rifts prior to important UN climate negotiations

There are already signs that big disagreements might cause problems at the UN’s important COP28 climate summit.

Over 70 environment ministers and over 100 national groups have been gathering in Abu Dhabi before discussions start in Dubai on November 30.

Many people are unsure if a summit hosted by a country that heavily relies on oil like the United Arab Emirates can lead the world towards a future with less carbon emissions.

This year is expected to be the hottest ever recorded worldwide.
The leader of the COP28 conference, Sultan Al Jaber, recognized the difficult problems he has to deal with.

He encouraged everyone to work together, agree on things, and solve any disagreements.

However, Mr Al Jaber is a person who creates a lot of disagreement and conflict among people.

He is also the leader of Adnoc, which is the state oil company of UAE and one of the biggest producers of oil in the world.

According to OPEC, Adnoc produced around 2. 7 million barrels of oil per day in 2021.

Greta Thunberg said that his appointment was very silly and made her doubt the whole UN climate process.
She said at a recent rally in London that the COP conferences are not meant to cause a significant decrease in CO2 emissions. “If they were different, they wouldn’t choose an oil company leader to be the president. ”

Mr Al Jaber has a very different opinion, which is not surprising.

He believes that we can only address climate change by including oil and gas in the conversation. He says that his experience in the industry makes him the best person to advocate for taking action.

Mr Al Jaber wanted to make it very clear in Abu Dhabi this week that he has big goals for the main discussions, and he made an effort to eliminate any uncertainties or concerns about it.

He said again that the main goal would be to keep the world on course to limit the increase in temperature to 1. 5 degrees Celsius above levels before industries started. Scientists say that if we do this, it will help us avoid the worst effects of climate change.

And Mr Al Jaber agreed that in order to achieve that, it will be necessary to significantly reduce emissions.

“He said we must find effective ways to reduce emissions by 43% by 2030, as supported by scientific evidence. ”

However, many people in the audience did not believe in Mr. Al Jaber’s commitment, especially because his oil company has ambitious plans to grow during the same time.

The company wants to increase how much oil it can produce each day by 600,000 barrels by the year 2030. They are also spending $150 billion to make this happen.
Mr Al Jaber said that despite emissions reducing, the world will still require some oil and gas. The IPCC has also recognized this.

He suggests that when it comes to choosing oil and gas, the UAE’s products should be considered first, as they have very low carbon emissions during production. However, when burned, they still release the same amount of CO2 as other fuels.

Arguments like this help to explain why countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the US believe it is better to reduce fossil fuel production gradually instead of stopping it completely. This is because the carbon dioxide (CO2) they produce is a major cause of greenhouse gas emissions.

The European Union is a member of a group of around 80 countries that have a stricter approach. Some people believe we can’t make any compromises when it comes to eliminating fossil fuels.

Wopke Hoestra, EU Commissioner for Climate Action, wants to quickly stop using fossil fuels and use words that represent this goal well.

Mr Al Jaber acknowledges that it will be difficult to find agreement between countries with different opinions on this important matter. He encourages the delegates in Abu Dhabi to try their hardest to find shared ideas or solutions.

But there is also a deadlock on other problems.

A major accomplishment of the recent UN climate conference was reaching a global agreement to create a fund called “loss and damage. ” This fund will assist poorer countries in paying for the negative impacts caused by climate change.

But initial discussions about how to create the fund and who might be in charge of it have already failed and there are concerns that major polluting countries like the US might not participate in the discussions at all.

Mr Al Jaber is working very hard to restart the negotiations, and recently he said that the UAE will hold another meeting for the committee in charge.

It may be difficult to reach an agreement at COP28, even when there is a general agreement on certain issues.

One of the UAE’s main goals for COP28 is to increase the amount of renewable energy available worldwide to three times the current capacity, reaching 11,000GW by 2030.

Most big countries already agree with that aim.

The G20, which is made up of countries like China, the United States, and India, that have strong economies, agreed to greatly increase the use of renewable energy sources at a meeting in September.

But, some European countries and states that are affected by climate change have stated that they will only agree to use clean energy if there is also an agreement to gradually stop using fossil fuels.

These significant disagreements on fundamental matters indicate that making progress during the COP28 conference starting on November 30 will be very challenging.

This is very different from how people felt when they signed the Paris Agreement eight years ago. It shows that the talks have changed a lot.

The aim of the Paris agreement was to convince countries that they should join forces to combat climate change.

Now these talks are focused on making countries actually do something – which is more difficult to achieve.

The meeting in Abu Dhabi this week showed that when the main talks start, they will mostly be influenced by international competitions, local politics, and disagreements over money, rather than a genuine concern for saving the planet from global warming.

I have learnt a lot after my accident- Wendy Shay

Ghanaian songstress Wendy Shay has provided an update on the aftermath of her near-fatal accident, which occurred in September. She mentioned that discussions have taken place between her team and the company to which the truck involved in the accident belonged. Although she didn’t delve into specific details, Wendy Shay noted that it was established that the driver of the truck was at fault.

“It was the driver’s fault, but everything has been settled. We’ve sat down and discussed everything,” she said.

She, however, indicated that there were some things she was ignorant of prior to the accident, adding that she had learned her lesson.

She stated. “I wasn’t aware of processes like vehicle insurance and all that. There are a lot of things I didn’t know, but from this incident, I have learned my lesson.”

On September 12, 2023, Wendy Shay experienced a car accident around midnight on the ACP Kwabenya Highway when a tipper truck collided with her car from behind.

She was quickly transported to the hospital for immediate medical treatment and subsequently flown to Germany for further medical evaluations.

  • Netanyahu of Israel denounces ‘cruel’ Hamas video depicting Israeli hostages

Netanyahu of Israel denounces ‘cruel’ Hamas video depicting Israeli hostages

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly criticized a video released by Hamas that shows Israeli hostages who were captured during the 7 October attacks. He described the video as “cruel propaganda. ”

The video, which came out on Monday, shows three Israeli women. One of them scolds Mr. Netanyahu and asks for the hostages to be set free.

Hamas took more than 230 people as captives in the attacks and around 1,400 Israelis lost their lives.

Only four have been set free up until now.

Israel has started a big military action in Gaza, with the goal of getting rid of Hamas and their control over the area.

The Hamas health department says that around 8,000 Palestinians have died.

The armed group Hamas, specifically the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, posted a video showing the hostages.

We have no information about how the video was made.

Only one of the people being held captive talks to the camera in the video.

We will not share or release the video. Prisoners of war and hostages are covered by rules that protect them according to world laws. The BBC doesn’t show any videos or materials that might have been made when people were forced or threatened.

MrNetanyahu said in a statement that the actions of Hamas-Isis are a form of psychological manipulation that is unkind.

We are giving hugs to the families. We will do whatever it takes to bring back all the people who were kidnapped or missing back to their homes.

He also said that the hostages are named Elena Trupanov, Danielle Aloni, and Rimon Kirsht.

“MrNetanyahu said, ‘I give you a hug. ‘”

Ms Aloni’s five-year-old daughter, along with her sister, brother-in-law, and their three-year-old twin daughters, were also taken by kidnappers on 7 October.

During a press conference on Monday, Ms. Aloni’s father expressed that he was extremely shocked and frightened when he saw her picture. He asked the leader of Qatar, who has been helping with negotiations, to do everything possible to bring the hostages back.
On 21 October, two weeks after the first attacks, Hamas let go of two hostages, a mother and her daughter named Judith and Natalie Raanan.

The group said that the couple, who have dual US-Israeli citizenship, were released because of compassionate reasons.

Two days later, two more women named Nurit Cooper, aged 79, and Yocheved Lifschitz, aged 85, were also set free. They are both from Israel but were set free in Egypt.

Hamas once again stated that they released the individuals for reasons related to their health and well-being. However, they accused Israel of not accepting them. Both women’s husbands are still in custody.

There is a reason why we have only seen pictures of women who were taken as hostages since their violent kidnapping.

There is no doubt that the video was released to make all Israelis feel emotional and make Mr. Netanyahu’s situation even more difficult.

He is feeling a lot of stress because the families of hostages are asking him to do more to free their loved ones. Two days ago, he mentioned that destroying Hamas was more important to him than anything else, including what he is talking about now.

In the video, Ms Aloni strongly criticizes Mr Netanyahu for not keeping the civilians safe on 7 October.

Even if it was said when someone was very anxious and stressed, it adds to a heated discussion in Israel about why the government and the military allowed any of this to occur.

During a press conference on Monday, Mr. Netanyahu expressed sympathy for the families of the hostages but emphasized that taking action on the ground was the most effective way to rescue them.

Hamas will not do it unless they feel forced to do so. They just won’t do it. He explained that this causes stress.

This abandonment occurred as a result of a sudden deterioration in his relationship with her mother. Hilda Baci further explained that her father abandoned her and her brother when they were halfway through their university education.

Hilda recalled an instance where she once called her father to demand school fees and he responded, “Who is your dad?”

US opposes demands for cease-fire between Israel and Hamas

The US has said no to the idea of stopping the fighting between Israel and Hamas, even though other countries want it. They believe it’s not the best choice at the moment.

National Security spokesperson John Kirby spoke on Monday and suggested that aid be delivered to Gaza by taking breaks from fighting.

Currently, there isn’t enough food, water, fuel, and medicines for the 2. 2 million people living in Gaza. This lack of supplies is putting them in a dangerous situation.

But Israel has promised that there will not be an end to the fighting until Hamas is taken apart.

Calls for a ceasefire mean asking Israel to give up to Hamas, to give in to terrorism. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that this will not occur.

Mr Kirby spoke at a meeting with the press and said that he believes more trucks carrying aid will be able to go into Gaza through Egypt.

He said the US talked to the Israeli government about allowing more trucks to cross the border each day, up to about 100.

On Sunday, around 45 trucks went into Gaza through Egypt’s Rafah Crossing, Mr Kirby mentioned. However, he admitted that additional resources would be necessary.

“He told the press briefing that although we recognize that even with significant improvement, it still won’t be sufficient. ”

Philippe Lazzarini from UNRWA said that before the war, around 500 trucks would go into Gaza every day.

Israel has been attacking Gaza since October 7th in response to the Hamas attacks that caused the death of 1,400 people in Israel and the kidnapping of 229 people by Hamas.

Over 8,300 people in Gaza have died since Israel started bombing in response, says the health ministry run by Hamas.

Yinam Cohen, Israel’s consul general to the Midwest, said on Monday that one woman kept captive by Hamas, Natalie Raanan, had come back home to Chicago.
Last week, the UN General Assembly strongly urged Israel and Hamas to temporarily stop fighting for humanitarian reasons. Israel rejected this request with anger.

Mr Lazzarini said on Monday that the system to give aid will not work unless there is a strong desire from politicians to ensure that the supplies being given are helpful and meet the extremely high humanitarian needs.

Israel started the next part of their plan to defeat Hamas on Monday. They sent soldiers to go into Gaza after bombing it for three weeks.

Ghanaian actor John Dumelo, has reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling his pledge to walk barefoot after Presbyterian Boys Secondary School, Presec Legon, emerged victorious in the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

Following his initial promise, Dumelo has now announced a date for this unique endeavor in response to calls from social media users. Presec Legon secured their eighth NSMQ trophy and back-to-back win in the recently concluded competition.

John Dumelo, an alumnus of Achimota, had declared on October 22 that if Presec won the NSMQ against Achimota Senior High School, he would walk barefoot from Ayawaso West Wuogon to the Presec premises.

In response to the mounting pressure, John Dumelo took to Twitter to confirm his commitment to his promise. He declared that he is a “man of his words” and will walk barefoot backwards from the University of Ghana main gate to the Presec main gate on October 31, 2023, at 4 pm.

Dumelo’s tweet read, “I am a man of my words. I will be walking backwards barefoot from the UG main gate to Presec main gate tomorrow, 31st Oct at 4 pm.

“I want to congratulate Presec for winning the #NSMQGrandFinale. I am wholeheartedly proud of my Achimota school and also OWASS. I will walk the talk.”

I dare you to sue me – Wendy Shay to Barima Sidney over copyright infringement

The release of Wendy Shay’s song ‘Africa Money’ has raised concerns about the authenticity of the music, particularly regarding the lyrics in the chorus.

Some individuals, including entertainment pundits, have claimed that some of the words in the chorus were borrowed from Barima Sidney’s 2011 song ‘African Money.’

In response to these allegations, Wendy Shay denied the claims, asserting that using certain words from a song does not violate copyright laws, as it is a common practice.

In an interview on the United Showbiz program on UTV, Wendy Shay expressed her willingness to address any legal action if Barimah Sidney chooses to pursue it.

“Nobody has the rights over words so if legendary Sidney thinks my song is similar to his own he can take me to court. And I am ready for that maybe I could learn something new there or in case I’m fined I will pay.

“He has not reached out to my camp about the issue but as you are saying maybe he has heard it. As I am sitting here I know I haven’t stolen anybody’s song but I am ready to go to the court if anyone thinks I have stolen their song,” she said.

Wendy Shay continued: “I have been doing professional music for five years so I know the copyright infringements, violations, and those things. I haven’t seen any law that states that someone can be accused of violation for taking words from a song. If that is the case then our Nigerian brothers who use ‘Odo Yewu’ in their songs have also committed copyright infringement but that is not the case.”

Indian man detained over deadly attack on Jehovah’s Witnesses

Police in India have taken a man into custody for setting off a bunch of bombs at a gathering of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the southern state of Kerala.

Three people died and over 50 people were hurt in explosions at a Christian religious event on Sunday.

The police arrested a man named Dominic Martin using a law that deals with preventing acts of terror.

He previously shared a video saying he did the attacks and gave up to the police.

The explosions happened on the final day of a prayer event put together by Jehovah’s Witnesses in the town of Kalamassery, which is about 10km (or six miles) north-east of the city of Kochi (also known as Cochin). Over 2,000 individuals were present at the three-day occasion.

TA Sreekumar, who speaks for the Jehovah’s Witnesses in the region, said to local media that the first explosion happened in the center of a hall, and two more explosions occurred just after that on both sides of the hall.

Two women who were at the meeting passed away on Sunday. On Monday, a 12-year-old girl with very severe burns also passed away from her injuries.

A few hours after the explosions, Mr. Martin shared a video on Facebook, saying that he used to belong to the Jehovah’s Witnesses and was upset with their teachings, so he planned the bombings. Sreekumer told Reuters that Mr. Martin was not officially a member.
The police said that Mr. Martin was from the state of Kerala. He used to work in Dubai before.

Kochi city police commissioner, A Akbar said that they believe he committed the crime because he confessed to it and there is additional evidence supporting this belief.

Mr Akbar said that Mr Martin was working well with the police.

The explosions caused waves of shock throughout the country. Security was increased in Delhi, Mumbai, and other cities.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses is a religious group that thinks regular Christian churches have strayed from the true teachings of the Bible, and they believe that the end of the world, called Armageddon, is coming soon.

The group says they have around 8. 7 million people following them all over the world and about 60,000 in India. They are well-known in Kerala and go door-to-door to share their beliefs.

Queen Richard, a person who is part of the religious group called Jehovah’s Witnesses, was inside the building when a bomb went off. At first, she thought that a problem with the electrical wiring had caused the explosion.

We shut our eyes and said our prayers. Suddenly, we heard a big explosion in the middle of the hall. She said there was a big fire. She and her husband, who has a disability, had a hard time getting out of the hall.

“She said that right after I stepped outside, I passed out and fell to the ground. ”

  • US to withdraw four African nations from trade agreement

US to withdraw four African nations from trade agreement

US President Joe Biden announced that Uganda, Gabon, Niger, and the Central African Republic will no longer be part of a special trade program between the US and Africa.

The president said that some countries either did really bad things to people’s rights or weren’t getting better at being a democracy.

In 2000, the United States created the African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa).

It lets certain countries in sub-Saharan Africa trade goods with the US without having to pay taxes for over 1,800 different products.

President Biden said that Niger and Gabon cannot receive benefits from Agoa because they have not shown enough progress in establishing political freedom and the rule of law. Both countries are currently being governed by the military due to recent coups.

He also said that the CAR and Uganda were removed from the programme because their governments did really bad things to people’s rights.

In May, the US government said it might take Uganda out of Agoa and impose punishments on the country because of a law it passed against homosexuality that many people disagreed with.

The law that punishes people with death if they are caught doing certain same-sex activities has been strongly criticized around the world.

President Biden said in a letter to the speaker of the US House of Representatives that even though the United States has been working closely with the Central African Republic, Gabon, Niger, and Uganda, these countries have not been meeting the criteria required to be eligible for Agoa.

The four countries have not responded to the announcement yet.

They will be kicked out of Agoa starting next year, and this is likely to hurt their economies because Agoa has been helping them sell more things, grow their economy, and create jobs.

The US government is considering excluding Niger and Gabon from Agoa. This is because the countries are currently being led by military governments.

Last week, the US State Department said that it had stopped giving most help to Gabon from other countries, and would only start again if Gabon’s temporary government starts doing things in a fair and open way.

In August, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said that the US is temporarily stopping some aid programs that help the government of Niger.

Burkina Faso, Mali, and Guinea were once kicked out of Agoa because they had military takeovers in their countries.

  • German lawmaker detained over criticism of Nazi slogan

German lawmaker detained over criticism of Nazi slogan

A German politician has been taken into custody for reportedly showing Nazi symbols. This happened because people frequently heard “Sieg Heil” being said at the place where his fraternity meets.

Daniel Halemba, who is 22 years old, was chosen to be a member of the Bavarian parliament this month. He belongs to the Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party.

The police inspected the building of the Teutonia Prag student group and discovered some Nazi signs.

Mr Halemba was taken into custody a few hours before he was supposed to be protected as a Member of Parliament.

He is one of 32 members elected for the AfD in Bavaria, where it is now the biggest opposition party in the state.

Last month, the police in Würzburg entered Mr. Halemba’s fraternity building. The neighbors had complained about hearing shouts of “Sieg Heil” coming from inside.

The officers took away things that were not allowed and the raid proved that the things that the neighbors accused were true.

The phrase was an important slogan used by Nazis and is not allowed to be used in Germany.

Police issued a document saying that they wanted to arrest someone on Friday. They found Mr Halemba near Stuttgart, in the state of Baden-Württemberg, on Monday morning.

The prosecutors told the BBC that they thought Mr. Halemba might try to escape because he had been hiding since October 26th.

In Germany, it is illegal to use symbols or images associated with the Nazi party.

Officials also claim that he tried to convince other members of the fraternity to alter their statements, which they believe is evidence of collusion or hiding evidence.

They want to catch me and put me in jail. “Before he was arrested, Mr. Halemba said in a video on social media that the arrest warrant was completely illegal. ”

His lawyer, Dubravko Mandic, said that the accusations against his client were not true.

Katrin Ebner-Steiner, the person in charge of the AfD party in the Bavarian parliament, criticized a legal action that she believes is driven by political motives.

The AfD has had very good results in recent elections.

The party against immigration got the third position in the Bavarian election that happened this month. Additionally, they came in second place in the state of Hesse.

The party is now frequently ranked second in national polls. Germany will have its next federal election in the year 2025.

Two injured following hospital shooting in Japan

Two individuals sustained injuries during a shooting incident at a hospital in Toda, Japan, as reported by local media.

The person we think is guilty, who may be about 40 or 50 years old, ran away on a motorcycle and we haven’t caught them yet.

At least one person has been held captive in a post office in the nearby city of Warabi, according to the authorities.

We still don’t know if the two incidents are related or linked in any way.

Japanese media have shown a video of a man holding a gun and standing at the entrance of a post office close to the Toda Chuo General Hospital, where two individuals were shot.
The post office that the Warabi authorities talked about is around 2. 5 kilometers (15 miles) away from the Toda Chuo General Hospital.

Video also showed cops and ambulances surrounding the place.

The kidnapping in Warabi was told around 2:15 PM.

The police in Tokyo have moved officers from a special team that deals with hostage situations to the place where the incident is happening. This information was shared by NHK, a Japanese broadcaster.

Officials also requested that individuals who reside within a 300m distance from the Warabi post office evacuate the vicinity, as reported by local news outlets.

The buildings close by have been put on lockdown too.

In Japan, it is not common to have shootings happen. The country has strong rules about who can own guns, and only permits people to own hunting rifles and airguns.

The owners need to take a difficult test and have their mental health checked.

  • Israeli forces rescue special operation to free soldier detained by Hamas – IDF says

Israeli forces rescue special operation to free soldier detained by Hamas – IDF says

An Israeli soldier who is a woman was kidnapped by Hamas. The Israel Defense Forces rescued her in a special joint operation, which is the first time they have successfully saved a hostage since Hamas went on a violent rampage on October 7.

Ori Megidish was let go. But there was a mistake in the translation, according to IDF spokesperson Lt. Colonel Jonathan Conricus spoke to Anderson Cooper of CNN on Tuesday.

Megidish was one of more than 200 people who were taken captive by Hamas. The Israeli army and security agency, with the help of the Shin Bet, carried out a mission to rescue Megidish and other hostages.

Israel said it started ground operations and called it a “new phase of war. ” They sent special forces into northern Gaza based on intelligence to find and rescue a person.

“He said it was a special operation aimed at getting her out. ”

“They went inside for a job,” Conricus said, adding that he is glad with the result as Megidish is doing well both mentally and physically, and has been reunited with her family.

Megidish has also told Israeli intelligence officers about her time being held captive and the information she shared could be helpful in the future, said Conricus.

“We are fully determined to bring back all of our 238 hostages who are currently being held by Hamas in Gaza,” he said. However, he did not mention if there are any other operations planned to rescue the remaining hostages based on information about their location.

The Israeli government is under pressure to free more people who are being held captive in Gaza. This comes after Hamas attacked Israel and many people were killed, mostly civilians.

Last week, the Israeli Government Press Office announced that there are 135 hostages in Gaza. These hostages come from 25 different countries and include men, women, children, and elderly people, as well as soldiers.

Hamas, a militant group in charge of Gaza, has released only four hostages. These hostages include two weak Israeli elderly women and an American mother and daughter. However, negotiations to free more captives are becoming difficult because Israel is expanding its ground operations into the trapped area.

Qatar has played an important role in discussing and negotiating with Hamas. However, Majed Al-Ansari, the person who speaks for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and gives advice to the Qatari prime minister, told CNN on Saturday that Israel’s increasing violence is making the situation much harder.

Israel is saying that by increasing its ground attack, it is putting more pressure on Hamas. They believe that this could eventually help in the ongoing efforts to free the hostages.

Conricus said that Hamas is using hostages to gain an advantage and is also engaging in psychological tactics.

He said that Hamas is using their hostages to improve their combat situation and the situation on the ground.

Conricus, who did not say there won’t be more rescue missions in the future, told CNN that Israeli forces on the ground are prepared for strong opposition and fighting in tunnels, dangerous traps, explosive devices, mines that target tanks, snipers, and other challenges. However, they have been making good progress so far.

He said that the Israeli military is making big efforts in the fight on the ground to tell apart who is fighting and who is not. He also mentioned that they are taking their time and being careful.

Traditional Council directs Ga Manye’s family not to enstool anyone

The Ga Traditional Council has issued a directive stating that no member from the family of the late Queen Mother, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, should be installed as Ga Manye (Queen Mother).

The Council emphasized that non-compliance with this directive will result in severe consequences. This decision was made in response to alleged misconduct by the Head of the Family of the late Naa Dedei Omaedru III, Charles Nii Kotey Kotey, the Family Spokesperson, Asafoiatse Kotey-Ga, the children of the late Ga Manye, and the Ga Manye Weku during the preparations for the funeral of late Naa Dedei Omaedru.

The Ga Traditional Council said that instead of supporting it to organize “a befitting funeral for the late Ga Manye and to respect the injunction contained under the Chieftaincy Act 2008 (Act 759) for persons to show respect to Chiefs and to hold them in high regard, the Family of late Naa Dedei Omaedru III chose to show disrespect and disregard and held the entire membership of Ga Traditional Council in contempt with attitudes aimed at causing grave embarrassment to the Council and disaffection towards it.”

As such, the Ga Traditional Council has resolved that “until further notice, no attempt should be made to provide a candidate for enstoolment as Ga Manye or for the enstoolment of any person as Ga Manye from the Family where the late Queen mother Naa Dedei Omaedru III hailed from failing which any such conduct will be met with dire consequences.”

The Council also says that with immediate effect, it will no longer recognize Nii Kotey Ga as Asafoiatse of Asere Djorshie. Therefore, the said Asafoiatse Kotey-Ga should cease to hold himself out as such.

The Council further called on all subjects of Asere Djorshie and throughout the Ga State not to accord him any such recognition.

“The Head of Family of late Naa Dedei Omaedru III, Charles Nii Kotey Kotey, and the immediate family including the children of the late Queen mother their agents, servants, assigns, privies, or whomsoever acting on their behalf are also prohibited from attempting to perform any other funeral concerning the passing of the late Ga Manye since the Ga Traditional Council has concluded all funeral rites concerning the late Queen mother.”

“That since a Queen mother under the customs, traditions, and practices of the Ga people only advises and compliments a chief, it is essential that the family of a candidate collaborates with the chief whom she will compliment. To this end, the Ga Traditional Council has directed that no candidate for the position of a Ga Queen mother can be chosen for enstoolment without their knowledge and consent,” it further stated.

Kan Dapaah to be summoned before parliament over alleged military brutality in Garu

A member of the Interior and Defense Committee of Parliament, Cletus Avoka, has indicated that the committee will work to summon the Minister for National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, to appear before Parliament and provide an account of the alleged brutality against some residents of Garu in the Upper East region by personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces.

Reports suggest that military personnel conducted a dawn raid in Garu and assaulted residents during the operation.

The Ghana Armed Forces have defended their actions, alleging that local youth initiated an attack on national security operatives, leading to the military’s intervention.

The National Security Ministry issued a statement refuting the reports and explaining that the operation aimed to seize weapons used in an attack by a vigilante group in Garu on October 24.

However, Member of Parliament for Zebilla East, Cletus Avoka, believes it would be wise for the National Security Minister to appear before Parliament to address the issue

“We will endeavour to make a statement on the floor of Parliament. We will request that Speaker Alban Bagbin invite the Minister of National Security, Kan Dapaah to come and address the House. We will then appeal to the Speaker to set up a committee to investigate this. We had done this in Wa, when soldiers went on rampage and beat up civilians just because a civilian stole a soldier’s motorbike.”

“We went to Wa to investigate it. When soldiers beat up several people in Ashaiman and they made them lay in water and gutters, we went there to investigate, we went to the area and conducted investigations,” the Member of the Interior and Defense Committee of Parliament said.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tempane constituency in the Upper East Region, Lydia Akanvariba Adakudugu, has called upon the government and the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces to conduct an investigation into alleged brutalities committed by some military personnel against residents of Garu.

Reports emerged on the morning of October 29 that Ghana Armed Forces personnel had entered Garu to retaliate for attacks on National Security operatives on October 24.

The Ministry of National Security denied the allegations in a statement and clarified that it was a “joint operation to seize weapons used in the October 24 attack by a vigilante group in Garu.”

During an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, the Tempane MP challenged the explanation provided by the Ministry of National Security and questioned the justification for the raid and subsequent brutality. She also emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the incident.

“Where was the National Security that they could not arrest the people and had to come to rain this brutality on the people at a later date? And where are the weapons that they came to retrieve? Were they telling us that they came to retrieve weapons and had to beat over 200 people? Can they tell us that the people they have beaten were found with weapons?”

She added that she would be making a statement on the Floor of Parliament on Tuesday on the alleged brutalities.

“We are calling for urgent investigations into this brutality, and we are calling on the National Security Minister and the leadership of the military to come out and tell us why this happened. Tomorrow, we will be going to Parliament, and we will be making a statement on the Floor of Parliament to tell Ghanaians what the military has done to our constituents. We also want the affected people to be compensated.”

NPP Primaries: Former Suhum MP threatens to’ put Ken Agyapong to bed’ before 6pm on Nov 4

The former Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare-Ansah, has confidently stated that Kennedy Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, will face defeat in his own constituency during the NPP election scheduled for November 4, 2023.

During an interview on Wontumi Radio on October 27, 2023, Opare-Ansah expressed his strong belief in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ability to secure a victory in the Central Region.

“We will beat him in the election in the Central Region, and he should try and make any attempt to cause anything. If he tries, I will let him sleep early, I will let him sleep before 6,” he said.

The former MP questioned Agyapong’s loyalty to the party during their years in opposition.

“Why did Kennedy feel like there were no men in the NPP? At the time that we were fighting for the party, where was he? Today we are in power and we have given you numerous contracts”, he alleged.

Additionally, he brought attention to reports that Agyapong had threatened to disclose government secrets.

“The last time he made someone call me that, if I don’t stop talking about him, he would spill the government’s secrets. Am I in the government for him to spill the government’s secret? That is what he does, threatening people that if they don’t do this, they will do this,” he added.

Kennedy, along with Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, will compete for the position of flagbearer.

The NPP plans to elect a new leader of the party on November 4, 2023, to replace President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

  • Disadvantages of drinking water while eating

Disadvantages of drinking water while eating

Drinking water while eating is a common practice, but there are some potential disadvantages to consider:

    1. Digestive Impact: Consuming a large volume of water with your meal may dilute the digestive enzymes and stomach acid needed for proper digestion. This could potentially lead to slower or less efficient digestion of food.
    2. Appetite Suppression: Drinking too much water during a meal may lead to a feeling of fullness that could reduce your appetite for the food you need to consume. This can be a concern if you have specific nutritional requirements.
    3. Indigestion: For some individuals, drinking water during a meal can lead to indigestion or heartburn, especially if they are prone to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
    4. Nutrient Absorption: In some cases, excessive water consumption with meals may hinder the absorption of certain nutrients, like water-soluble vitamins and minerals, by flushing them through the digestive system too quickly.
    5. Bloating: Overconsumption of water with meals can lead to bloating and a feeling of fullness, which can be uncomfortable.
    6. Weight Gain: Some people use water to wash down food without being mindful of how much they are consuming. This can result in overeating and potentially contribute to weight gain.

It’s important to note that the impact of drinking water while eating can vary from person to person. Some individuals may find it beneficial, while others may experience discomfort. Moderation is key, and it’s generally advisable to drink water in reasonable amounts during a meal to support digestion and prevent dehydration.

If you have concerns about the impact of water consumption on your digestion or health, consider consulting with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian for personalized guidance.

  • Three hostages footage released by Hamas

Three hostages footage released by Hamas

Hamas has made a video where they show three people being kept as prisoners in Gaza.

We don’t have information about how the filming happened, but the three women seem to be in decent health and there are no obvious signs of injury on them.

In the video, a woman talks directly to the camera about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and asks for the hostages to be released. She shares her negative thoughts about him.

We won’t put the video out. People who are captured during wars or taken hostage are given special protections according to international laws that deal with how to treat them. The BBC, a television network, doesn’t show videos that may have been filmed when someone is being forced or threatened.

  • What plans does Israeli military have for Gaza City?

What plans does Israeli military have for Gaza City?

It is difficult to understand what is happening in Gaza because the Israelis are controlling communication carefully.

Earlier this morning, it appeared that the Israelis temporarily closed one of the two main roads in Gaza from north to south. A video showed a car driving towards an Israeli tank on the road. The car quickly reversed direction when the tank started shooting, and then there was an explosion.

Why are the Israelis doing this. They may be trying to surround Gaza City because the military sees it as the main hub of Hamas.

If they try to do that, then the military will have to fight inside people’s houses.

With that being said, I’m not completely certain if the Israeli military has enough troops to completely block off a place as large and complicated as Gaza City. Hamas is deeply rooted in the city and has built a network of tunnels. It seems like they have been getting ready and considering what Israel might do. This is going to be a difficult task for the Israelis.

  • Airbus Scandal a mere child’s play compared to grand corruption in Agyapa Royalties deal – Martin Amidu

Former Ghana Special Prosecutor Martin, known for his relentless pursuit of corruption, has set off a firestorm of controversy with his recent statement claiming that the Airbus Scandal investigation was mere “child’s play” when compared to the sprawling Agyapa Royalties Transactions case. In a detailed article, Martin highlighted the stark differences between these two high-profile corruption investigations, raising serious concerns about the scale of alleged wrongdoing.

    Airbus Scandal: A Complex Investigation

In his article, Martin recalled the challenges faced during the Airbus Scandal investigation, which revolved around alleged bribery by Airbus SE, a European aerospace corporation, in the sale and purchase of military aircraft for Ghana. He discussed difficulties accessing vital information and the absence of cooperation from government entities involved in the case. The former Special Prosecutor revealed that Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) requests to the United Kingdom and the United States had been made but remained unanswered when he left office in November 2020.

Agyapa Royalties Transactions: A Grave Concern

The former Special Prosecutor went on to underscore the significance of the Agyapa Royalties Transactions. He characterized it as a much more extensive case, highlighting concerns of corruption and abuse of public office for private gain. Martin alleged that this case far surpassed the Airbus Scandal in terms of severity and scale.

    Allegations of Inaction

Martin raised questions about the actions of the current Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, in connection to the Agyapa Royalties Transactions. He insinuated that political pressures may be influencing the decision not to pursue a formal investigation into the matter. Despite promising to investigate the Agyapa Royalties Transactions before Parliament, Martin alleged that the current Special Prosecutor has failed to fulfill his oath.

    Resurgence of Airbus Scandal Investigation

Of particular concern is the sudden revival of the Airbus Scandal investigation, which had remained relatively dormant for several years. Martin suggested that political motivations might be driving the decision to revisit this case, especially with the 2024 elections looming.

    Concluding Remarks and Implications

Martin’s provocative statements have ignited a new round of discussions on corruption investigations in Ghana and the country’s commitment to upholding transparency and accountability. The stark contrast he drew between the Airbus Scandal and the Agyapa Royalties Transactions is expected to intensify public scrutiny of these high-stakes issues.

As the political landscape in Ghana continues to evolve, these allegations and comparisons are likely to play a pivotal role in shaping public opinion and influencing ongoing investigations, potentially impacting the nation’s future political landscape and its efforts to combat corruption.

Tanks have begun firing at cars on crucial roads – Gaza resident

We have been telling people that an Israeli tank was spotted on an important road that goes from the top to the bottom of the Gaza Strip. A confirmed video shows a tank shooting at a car driving north on the Salah-al-Din road, near Gaza City.

The Israeli military has chosen not to disclose where it is located.

People who saw what happened earlier told a news agency that tanks went into the Zaytun district on the southern outskirts of Gaza City.

“They have blocked the Salah-al-Din road and are shooting at any vehicle that tries to drive on it,” said one person who lives there, but did not want to reveal their name. The BBC cannot confirm if the claim is true.

The IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) said earlier that in the past 24 hours, they attacked 600 places and many Hamas fighters were killed during fights that happened overnight.

  • Police officer in Jerusalem stabbed after man shot and killed

Police officer in Jerusalem stabbed after man shot and killed

This morning, while we were working outside our hotel in Jerusalem, we heard a series of close gunshots, and quickly went inside.

After that, we noticed a hurt man being taken to an ambulance at the petrol station close by.

We are still learning more information, but it appears that the man who was hurt is a police officer and he was stabbed.

The person who was believed to have attacked someone was shot and killed by the police near St George’s Cathedral. This happened not very far from where the incident began, after the person ran down the road.

We don’t know for sure who he is, but according to local reporters, he was from the Mount of Olives area in East Jerusalem.

There were a lot of security guards after the attack. They came in cars and on horses, but now the streets are peaceful again.

Things like this happen often in Jerusalem, but it is happening more frequently now because of the ongoing war.
