  • Sister Derby jabs Hassan Ayariga over the intention to ban betting

Sister Derby jabs Hassan Ayariga over the intention to ban betting

Ghanaian songstress and human rights activist, Sister Derby, has responded to Presidential aspirant Hassan Ayariga’s statement about making betting illegal.

Ayariga, who is running under the APC party, expressed his intent to ban betting entirely due to concerns about its impact on the youth, citing issues of laziness and decreased productivity.

In a fiery response, Sister Derby criticized Ayariga for his stance. She argued that the lack of job opportunities has left the youth with limited options, and betting has become a means for them to make ends meet.

Sister Derby accused Ayariga of not offering solutions to the youth unemployment crisis and instead attempting to take away their sole source of entertainment and livelihood.

The House of Representatives invites Naira Marley’s legal team over Mohbad’s royalties

A joint committee of the House of Representatives has invited Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, to a hearing regarding the royalties of the late Afrobeat singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

This joint committee comprises members from the committees on Youth, Justice, and Legislative Compliance. In a letter dated October 26, signed by the clerk of the Committee, Yusuf Ibrahim, Naira Marley and the legal team representing the late singer were asked to appear before the committee on October 31.

Mohbad, a former artist under Naira Marley’s record label, passed away at the age of 27 under unclear circumstances on September 12.

Naira Marley has faced accusations of bullying or orchestrating the harassment of the late singer, but the police have identified other suspects connected to the death of the singer.

Earlier this month, Naira Marley voluntarily turned himself in to the police for questioning and other investigative activities. The House of Representatives initiated this inquiry into the singer’s death after a motion was presented by Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos).

The committee’s objective is to ensure that the late singer’s family receives all the rightful entitlements from his works.

    Mohbad’s royalties

According to the letter, the lawmakers said the interaction is to ensure that the family of the later singer gets what is due to them.

“The House Committees on Justice, Youth and Legislative Compliance invite you and the legal team of MOHBAD for an interactive meeting session as regards a referral received being a resolution of the House of Representatives during their plenary session on Tuesday 26th September 2023 with respect to the circumstances surrounding the royalties and other benefits of Mohbad and to ascertain the level of your interaction with other relevant copyright organisations, such information will guide the committee on further legislative action.

“In view of the above, you are kindly invited for an interactive session with the chairman, Committee on Justice, Youth and legislative compliance scheduled as follows,” the letter reads.

No captive would be released until there is truce – Hamas spokesperson

According to a member of a Hamas group visiting Moscow, the hostages captured from Israel during a surprise attack cannot be released until both sides agree to stop fighting, as reported by local media.

The Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that Abu Hamid said Hamas needed more time to find all the people who had been taken.

“They took many people, mostly regular people, and we need to take time to locate them in Gaza and then let them go,” Hamid said.

Hamas has let go of four hostages until now, citing reasons of humanity. Judith and Natalie Raanan, a mother and daughter, were the first to be released on 20 October. Yocheved Lifschitz, who is 85 years old, and Nurit Cooper, who is 79 years old, were released on Monday.

Mohbad was scared of going out for six months – Parents tell court

During the Coroner’s Inquest into the cause of death of the late singer Mohbad, his parents revealed that he had stopped attending shows for six months due to fear of frequent beatings, harassment, and bullying from his former label owner, Naira Marley, and his associate, Sammy Larry.

They further stated that Mohbad told them he was being attacked because he no longer wanted Naira Marley’s brother, Tunde Fashola, to be his manager.

The father of the late singer, Joseph Aloba, said, “Mohbad was scared of going out for six months. He said he did not know if the substance he drank at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) will appear at the airport.”

He said the day Mohbad was inflicted with injury, he saw Naira Marley and his boys and claimed that Mohbad said it was customary for them to attack him.

On her own part, the mother said, “My son told us that there was a show that Naira Marley forced him to attend which he declined because it was Sammy Larry that was the organiser of that show.

“Whenever Mohbad was with me, he was always full of fear; he said it was Naira Marley who collected all the money for the shows he performed because the three-year contract that he signed with him had not elapsed.

“He always mentioned Naira Marley and Sammy Larry, and he was always shaking. I begged him several times to allow me to speak with them, but he refused, saying he didn’t want them to kill me.

“The last time he travelled for a show, after he came back, he mentioned to me that Naira Marley came to attack him, he reported the case to the police but I don’t know if the police invited Naira Marley,” the mother said.

She said she didn’t know that her son was a musician until she and Mohbad reconnected in 2019 at Ayobo after she had left him with his father when he was three years old.

Abosede said Mohbad was her second child and that he had two other siblings but when she and his father separated, she was not allowed to take the children with her except the last one because he was very young. She claimed he didn’t even stay long with her before the father took him away from her.

Mohbad’s mother said it was her younger sister who brought Mohbad and his friends to visit her and then they exchanged numbers.

She said when he told her that he sang, I told him that wasn’t the prophecy I got when I was pregnant with him. “You were supposed to be a pastor, I told him but he played with me and then left,” he recalled.

“After he left that night, somebody came to me and showed me a video that was circulating online that they were beating him and he was crying and said that Naira Marley wanted to kill him.

‘The following day, I got a call again that the deceased had been hospitalised. By the time I got there, they said he had been discharged and he was ok healthwise.

“Mohbad told me on the third day that he was inside the studio when he got a call that something was happening at Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley) house that the NDLEA came to raid his house,” she said.

The witness mentioned that the deceased rushed to Naira Marley’s house after hearing some information. At that time, the deceased’s younger brother, Adutra Aloba, and the deceased’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, were staying at Naira Marley’s house. However, by the time the deceased arrived at Naira Marley’s house, Zinoleesky and others had already been taken away by the NDLEA.

“The deceased followed the NDLEA to their office and he asked why they took his friends away he became thirsty due to the argument between him and the NDLEA, then he was given water, he later discovered that he was not feeling ok again after drinking the water.

“I asked him why he was shouting on the Internet, he said Naira Marley wanted to kill him. I asked him why Naira Marley wants to kill you, he said I shouldn’t worry, that I cannot understand.

“I and one Iya Lode went to Naira Marley’s house and on seeing Naira Marley, he explained that the deceased spoiled his name. I and his father apologised to him, but he still wrote a statement that he (Naira Marley) wanted to kill him.

“I was at the deceased’s house on Saturday when the deceased told me that he had a show on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Ikorodu but the following Tuesday I received a call that the deceased was dead,” she said.

During her testimony at the coroner’s inquest, the mother of the late singer, Mohbad, mentioned that her son had warned her not to reveal certain details in court because he feared for her safety.

In earlier testimony, the father, Joseph Aloba, explained that they buried Mohbad the next day because the mortuary had rejected his body. He also mentioned that he pointed out the burial site, which was on their family land.

Aloba recounted that when he arrived home on the day his son died, he initially went to the deceased’s room, where he found blood-soaked clothes, before learning that his son was in the living room.

US claims it opposes truce that would enable Hamas to reorganise

A person from the US state department said to the BBC that the US does not want a ceasefire that would let Hamas take a break and prepare themselves to launch more attacks on Israel.

Matthew Miller said that aside from the attacks on Israel on October 7th, Hamas has been shooting rockets every day, including today and yesterday, at innocent people in Israel.

“He said we would not agree to a ceasefire that lets them keep doing those operations. ”

I think it’s important for parties involved to support and consider having short breaks in fighting so aid can be delivered to those in need. Miller said that they put in a lot of effort to open the Rafah gate in southern Gaza. He was talking about the agreement made by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his recent visit to Israel.

When Miller was asked about news that about 50 people being held by Hamas in Gaza were killed during the Israeli airstrikes, he did not say if any Americans were among the people who were killed.

The BBC cannot confirm on its own whether or not Hamas’s statements about the deaths of hostages are true.

Miller said to the BBC that we are unsure about the condition of the people being held as hostages. He also mentioned that Qatar has done important work to free two Americans this week.

‘Remain hopeful’ about deal to free several Israeli detainees – Former negotiator

A person who helped free an Israeli soldier named Gilad Shalit from being held captive by Hamas in 2011 recently told the BBC that there is still a chance to resolve the hostage crisis as long as the invasion hasn’t started yet.

Gershon Baskin, the Middle East director of an organization that protects human rights, said he is trying to make a truce and free the women, children, elderly, wounded, and sick people as fast as he can.

He told Newsday that keeping people as hostages is not right according to Islam and the Quran. It goes against what Hamas believes in.

Baskin thinks that the Israeli government might agree to stop fighting if they can get back the people they are holding, but only if there are no additional demands.

According to Baskin, Hamas, which is considered a terrorist organization in several countries, keeps changing their demands.

He says there is still a chance for a solution to the hostage situation before the ground invasion starts.

Israel is taking their time because they want to try everything possible to rescue the civilian hostages in Gaza before they send in a large number of troops, tanks, and artillery. “And that is a good indication. “

Gaza streets overflowing with sewage – UNRWA chief

Philippe Lazzarini, who runs UNRWA (the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency), recently held a meeting with journalists. He talked about what is happening in Gaza and how important it is to allow more help to reach the area.

“Right now, people in Gaza are losing their lives and important services are falling apart,” he informs the journalists in attendance. He says that there is not enough food and water left, and the streets are now filled with sewage.

“Gaza is facing a serious health crisis and there is a high chance of diseases spreading,” warns Lazzarini.

A few days ago, I said that if we don’t get fuel, we won’t be able to keep helping people in need. I am still warning you.

He explains that in the past few days, UNWRA has greatly reduced the amount of fuel it is using.

However, there was a price to pay for this. Our team had to make difficult choices that no humanitarian workers should have to make.

  • UN ‘doesn’t know’ if Hamas has stocked fuel – Agency head

UN ‘doesn’t know’ if Hamas has stocked fuel – Agency head

I recently attended a press conference given by Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, an organization that helps Palestinian refugees. We have been discussing this conference in our previous posts.

He said the United Nations really wants fuel to go to Gaza to provide electricity for essential services. Israel says that Hamas took fuel from UNRWA and has about 500,000 liters of it. Earlier this week, the Israeli army mentioned that UNRWA should seek permission from Hamas if they want to obtain something.

I asked Lazzarini further if this is true. He said he had seen news about Hamas having enough fuel for six weeks, but he admitted that he didn’t know anything about it at all. “He said to me that he doesn’t know what Hamas has or doesn’t have in Gaza. ”

He said that there is a store of fuel in Gaza that holds up to 400,000 liters. This fuel was brought in as part of a previous agreement between Qatar and Israel before the conflict started on October 7th.

Lazzarini explained that in order for UNRWA to obtain the fuel, they need agreements called “deconfliction” with Israel. This means that the UN wants assurance from Israel that the area is secure for its workers and will not be targeted for bombing. He said in the past few days, UNRWA was able to get “some fuel” from this storage place after an agreement was made. However, he said that there were still things left to discuss and it is Israel’s decision whether or not to allow access.

When asked if Hamas took the UN fuel, Lazzarini said “no” once more.

Israel still cautious to undertake ground offensive despite its strong rhetoric – Analyst

Israeli soldiers went into Gaza again last night.

In the past hour, we have heard loud sounds of war coming from the sea. We are in southern Israel, about 10km away from Gaza.

The loud sounds of big guns and tanks firing, Israeli military planes flying above, and a big cloud of smoke coming from Gaza show that something serious is happening there this morning.

In the past, Israelis have always had a tendency to take immediate action, address problems as they come up, act quickly and be a little reckless.

However, now there is some doubt or uncertainty. This is partly because of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s personality. Although he talks tough, he has never started a war for Israel.

He always is very careful and concerned about consequences, and he is afraid he might be forgotten in politics, especially if military action goes very wrong.

Netanyahu is already facing trial for very serious corruption charges. If found guilty, he might be sent to jail. This makes him worry about protecting himself, which further fuels his instinct to protect himself.

Also, there are 229 hostages which are making things more difficult.

Israeli people have had enough time to consider this matter. There are many people, including families, who strongly believe that sending soldiers into Gaza is dangerous. This belief is certainly one of the reasons the ground attack has been postponed.

My mother got through this because of her optimism – Sharone Lifschitz

Sharone Lifschitz, the daughter of 85-year-old Yocheved Lifschitz, explained to the BBC that her mother was taken by Hamas from the Nir Oz Kibbutz on October 7 and released recently. She said her mother faced some challenges, but she remained strong and resilient throughout the ordeal.

She mentioned that her mother, who is a peace activist, told her that she still feels connected to the people in Gaza who are in hiding. She also said that she is slowly beginning to understand her surroundings and what has occurred, but it is difficult for her to fully grasp the situation because it is so overwhelming.

But she also says her mother wants to “give hope” to the families of the other hostages, telling them that as hostages they were taken care of and their injuries were being treated by medical staff, and they were not being harmed.

Lifschitz says that her mother’s incredible positivity helped her get through this difficult experience.

Lifschitz’s dad is still being kept prisoner by Hamas. He spent his whole life supporting peace, according to her.

He wanted both countries to live peacefully next to each other and worked hard for that. She believes that you should make peace with your enemies. She hopes he is okay and can use his Arabic language skills to talk to the people there. She also hopes he receives medical treatment.

Leaders from different countries should do their best to bring back people who have been taken hostage, according to Sharone Lifschitz. Her parents, who are peace activists, were kidnapped by Hamas.

Lifschitz said, “This is a place with a terrible history, we urgently need these people to return to their homes. ” Her mom was let go earlier this week, but her dad is still being held captive.

When Lifschitz was asked if Benjamin Netanyahu should negotiate more to help get the hostages back, he had a strong response.

We should complete all the tasks. These people did not succeed and had to take care of themselves for nine hours. There was no fighting in my village because we were all killed and nobody came for nine hours,” Lifschitz said.

Bringing hostages back to their communities is the bare minimum required, Lifschitz added.

When Lifschitz was asked about her hopes for the future, she said that she just wants things to not get any worse.

I wish for people to learn from my mom and her mindset, and to find a way to work towards something that is supportive of life.

The head of UNRWA, Phillippe Lazzarini, says that the aid trucks allowed to enter through an Egyptian crossing point have only provided a small amount of assistance.

The BBC asked him a question, he replied by saying that Hamas did not steal fuel from the United Nations. However, he did acknowledge that Israel is preventing fuel from entering, and is blaming Hamas for storing it instead.

EU leaders want Israel and Hamas to stop fighting temporarily, so that aid can be delivered to civilians.
Israel previously said that it had launched specific attacks in the middle part of the Gaza Strip and hit many targets belonging to Hamas.

  • Russia killing its own soldiers who try to flee – US says

Russia killing its own soldiers who try to flee – US says

As per the White House, Russian forces are responsible for the deaths of soldiers who try to retreat from an aggressive assault in eastern Ukraine.

According to the United States, some of the people who were hurt or killed from Russia near Avdiivka were a result of their own leaders’ instructions.

Russian and Ukrainian soldiers have been fighting each other strongly for control of the frontline town since October.

It is believed that Russia experienced big losses during this time.

Ukrainian people believe that about 5,000 Russian soldiers were injured or killed in Avdiivka. The United States thinks that Russia lost at least 125 armored vehicles and a lot of equipment, which is enough for a battalion.

A person from the Ukrainian army said that Russian soldiers were not attacking Ukrainian positions near Avdiivka because they had suffered many casualties. They also mentioned that there were rebellions happening within some Russian units.

Russia’s military forces are not well-trained, do not have enough equipment, and are not ready for fighting. This was also true during their unsuccessful attack last winter, according to National Security Council spokesman John Kirby during a briefing on Thursday.

He said that the Russian military seems to be using a strategy called “human wave” tactics, where they send large numbers of unskilled soldiers directly into battle.

No good tools, no one in charge, not enough resources, no help. Kirby said that it is not surprising that Russian forces are feeling discouraged and demoralized.

If the Russian troops take over Avdiivka, which is close to Donetsk city, it will be more difficult for Ukrainian forces to continue moving forward in the Donetsk region. This is because Russian troops will be moving their front line backwards.

Almost all of the 30,000 residents of Avdiivka have left because Russian forces are still attacking the town. Earlier this week, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said that the situation was really difficult.

On Thursday, the US said they will give Ukraine $150m (£123. 7m) to help their military. This includes things like guns, bullets, and weapons to destroy tanks.

However, it is uncertain if Ukraine will continue to receive assistance in the future after Republican Mike Johnson was elected as the speaker of the US House of Representatives.

Mr Johnson, who belongs to the conservative side of the Republican Party, opposes giving any more help to Ukraine from the United States. In the past, he has also backed changes to prevent this aid from going through.

The US has given a lot of money (over $46 billion) to Ukraine for their military, and also provided additional money for other needs like finance and helping people.

The leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin, attacked Ukraine in a big way in February 2022.

  • Indian Member of Parliament involved in ‘cash-for-query’ controversy

Indian Member of Parliament involved in ‘cash-for-query’ controversy

A Member of Parliament from India, who often strongly disagrees with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his political party (BJP), is involved in a disagreement over claims of bad behavior in the parliament.

Nishikant Dubey, a member of the BJP party, is saying that Mahua Moitra, who is an MP from the TMC party, is taking money to ask questions in parliament.

Mr Dubey is saying that Ms. Moitra asked questions about the Adani Group, which is a big business owned by a wealthy man named Gautam Adani, in return for receiving presents and money from a businessman.

Ms Moitra has said that she didn’t do what she’s accused of and is willing to be investigated. A group of lawmakers who make decisions about what is right and wrong in politics began discussing the situation on Thursday.

Political experts say that the committee cannot punish Ms. Moitra, even if it decides against her, because it doesn’t have the authority to enforce its decisions. The house will need to review the recommendation and decide if they want to approve or refuse it. If Ms Moitra is forced to leave parliament, she can question the decision in court.

In January, the money activities of the Adani Group were looked into after a company called Hindenburg Research accused them of cheating and making false financial records for many years. Hindenburg Research is a company from the US that focuses on making money by betting against certain stocks. The Adani Group said the allegations are not true and called the report mean-spirited.

Since then, Ms Moitra and many lawmakers from the opposition have requested the government to investigate the accusations against the Adani Group. India’s market regulator, called the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), is currently looking into the accusations against the company.

What has occurred up until now.

On 15 October, Mr Dubey sent a letter to the head of the parliamentary group, sharing information he got from a lawyer called Jai Anant Dehadrai.

Mr Dubey said that Mr. Dehadrai, who Ms. Moitra called a bitter ex-partner, had provided undeniable proof of bribes being exchanged between her and businessman Darshan Hiranandani. The intention behind this was to target the Adani Group and Mr.

People think Mr. Adani is friends with Mr. Modi and politicians from the opposing party have accused him of unfairly benefiting from this friendship. Adani and the BJP party deny these allegations.

Mr Dubey said that until recently, 50 out of 61 questions asked by Ms. Moitra in parliament were about the Adani Group. He also accused her of taking bribes totaling 20 million rupees ($240,542; £197,700) from Mr. Hiranandani.

Ms Moitra has said that the accusations are not true and she has taken legal action against Mr Dubey, Mr Dehadrai, and various news organizations for damaging her reputation.

The Hiranandani Group denied the allegations. On 20 October, it was said that Mr. Hiranandani gave a written statement to the parliament’s ethics committee. In the statement, he changed his position and said that Ms. Moitra had purposely focused on Mr. Adani and his businesses to gain fame.

He also said that Ms Moitra shared her parliamentary login information with him so he could ask questions for her when needed.

News agencies quickly reported on the supposed affidavit, but Ms. Moitra expressed doubts about its authenticity in a press release on X.

The paper that the document is written on is not official or certified. Why would a highly respected and educated businessman from India agree to sign a letter like this on plain white paper, unless someone forced him to do it by holding a gun to his head.

Darshan Hiranandani has not been asked to come for questioning by the CBI, the Ethics Committee, or any other investigative agency in India so far. Who did he give this written statement to, she added.

The day after Mr. Dubey made his claims, a representative for the Adani Group said that Mr. Dehadrai’s complaint shows that there has been a plan since 2018 to damage the reputation and interests of the Adani Group and its Chairman Gautam Adani.

The TMC has not made a clear decision on the matter. Derek O’Brien, a lawmaker from the party, said that the leaders of TMC will wait for the report from the ethics panel before making a suitable choice.

The disagreement has become a big news story because Ms Moitra is seen as an important politician who has connected with both city and countryside voters in West Bengal. Her supporters say that the BJP is creating this controversy as a strategy to harm Mr. Moitra’s popularity with voters before the general elections in 2024.

From someone who works with money to someone who makes decisions in the government

Before joining the TMC in 2010, Ms. Moitra worked as a banker. At the beginning of her political career, she mainly focused on the state level and worked closely with ordinary voters.

In the 2019 parliamentary election, she ran for office in Krishnanagar, West Bengal. She had to show that she could represent the many voters in poverty. Poverty line is a way to measure how well someone or their family is living.

Ms Moitra won the elections with a lot more votes than the other candidates, almost 60,000 more votes.

Ms Moitra, in her first speech in parliament, said that India had been seeing “indications of fascism” under the BJP government. The speech became very popular on social media and people had different opinions about it. Some people praised her for being honest, but others criticized her for scaring people.

Ms Moitra has now become a well-known person in the TMC, a political party that already has Mamata Banerjee, a powerful female leader in charge.

Ms Banerjee, a strong speaker, is part of a group that wants to challenge Mr Modi’s BJP in the upcoming election. In 2021, she openly criticized Ms Moitra for causing conflicts within their party. People who study politics are paying attention to what Ms. Banerjee will say or do in response to the ongoing problem.

  • First Afghan flight from Pakistan lands in United Kingdom

First Afghan flight from Pakistan lands in United Kingdom

The first plane carrying Afghan refugees from Pakistan has arrived in the UK.

The airplane departed from Pakistan with 132 individuals onboard, according to officials in the country who spoke to the BBC.

Many people escaped from the Taliban in Afghanistan because they had worked with or for the UK government. These people are now in Pakistan and waiting to be moved to a new place.

Some of them used to translate for the British Army and teach for the British Council.

The UK government has arranged and hired 12 flights to bring people from Afghanistan to the UK by the end of December, as confirmed by the Civil Aviation Authority.

All the refugees are either in the Afghan citizens resettlement scheme or Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy.

They were told to go to Pakistan to get their visas, but charities say some people have been waiting there for over a year, and that many of their visas have now become invalid.

Earlier this month, Pakistan announced that it intended to begin sending back people who are in the country illegally starting from 1 November.

After the Taliban took over Afghanistan again in 2021, they said they would forgive and not punish people who helped the international forces. However, many Afghans still feel scared that they will get in trouble for what they did.

Some people told the BBC that they are worried they have put themselves in more danger by following the UK’s instructions to leave Afghanistan.

Qasim, a person using a fake name, was one of the people who helped the UK authorities.

Before we left Afghanistan, our lives were in danger half of the time. “He said that they are in complete danger now. ”

Pakistan has told 1. 7 million people from Afghanistan to leave the country.
The UK is requesting assistance to relocate more Afghan people who had been employed by them.

A document shared in court shows that the British authorities in Pakistan believe that people who are waiting for UK visas in Pakistan are likely to be sent back to their home country.

According to information from the government, about 3,250 people, including men, women, and children, are currently staying in guest houses and hotels in the capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad.

While they are there, they cannot work legally and their kids cannot go to school.

A lot of people thought that when they first went to Pakistan, they would only have to wait there for a few weeks.

Court documents revealed that many people had to wait longer to come to the UK and stay in hotels because Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated that only in very rare situations could they be allowed to do so.

Instead, they had to find a place to stay for a longer period of time before they could move to a new location. An email said that this plan should save the taxpayer money overall.

The government has decided that people on relocation programmes will not have to find suitable housing before they move. The BBC has this information.

  • Lovely Lewiston turns ghost town as manhunt for killer continues

Lovely Lewiston turns ghost town as manhunt for killer continues

The day after a person with a gun shot and killed 18 people at two nearby places, many people in the southern part of the state remained inside their homes because the police were still looking for the person responsible.

During this time of year, Lewiston’s streets are usually very beautiful with red and bright orange leaves. However, right now the streets are empty and all the stores and businesses are closed. Neat houses made of wooden boards and painted in blue and grey colors appeared empty, with the windows covered and doors closed tightly.

Halloween decorations like big inflatable pumpkins and plastic skeletons on balconies and lawns served as reminders of regular everyday life.

From time to time, a helicopter passed by, unexpectedly interrupting the silence.

Peter Fertesky, who has lived in Lewiston for a long time, said he has never witnessed anything like this before. He came to see the large group of reporters gathered around the local hospital, Central Maine Medical Center. Officials at the hospital stated that 14 victims are currently being treated there.

“He said that even when the Covid virus was spreading, people were still going outside. ”

According to the Gun Violence Archive, Wednesday’s rampage was the deadliest mass shooting in the US this year. The Gun Violence Archive keeps track of shootings where four or more people are killed or injured, not including the person who committed the act.

On a calm Wednesday night, the number of people who lost their lives is almost the same as all the murders that happened in the state throughout 2022.

Governor Janet Mills said at a press conference that this is a sad day for Maine. “The people of Lewiston are going through a lot of pain. ”

People who live in Lewiston say that the deadly attack was very sad and affected the close connections that people have in the community.

The first shooting happened at a place called Just-In-Time Recreation, which is a place where both young and adult bowling leagues play. The person with the gun then went to Schemengees Bar & Grille, which is a restaurant that families go to. People say there was a cornhole tournament happening there when the attacker started shooting.

In the past few hours, we have learned more about the victims of the shooting. One of them was a grandfather who enjoyed bowling, and another was an employee at Schemengees who tried to stop the gunman.

Frank, a resident of Auburn, said that in a city this big, everyone knows at least one person who has passed away.

Frank said that he received a lot of messages on his phone about people who were believed to have been killed or injured. He spent most of Wednesday evening listening to local police scanners, trying to understand how big the attack was on the calm community.

“He said that he is part of a bowling league, hosted by Just-In-Time. ” “We go on Mondays” can be said as “We go on the day called Monday. ”

Frank and his wife, Tammy, were sitting together in a booth at a sandwich shop close to the bowling alley. The restaurant was one of the few places that were still open in the area.

Other people came in and left, waiting at tables that were black and brown and shiny. They were waiting for sandwiches and soups. Many people appeared sad or tired, and almost all of them refused to talk.

Alex Lachance, a nurse, said she used to work with the suspect while waiting in line at the cafe.

“He didn’t talk much to me and was always very quiet,” she explained.

She will go home and lock the doors after getting her order. She said she will be with her family and wait to find out if she has work on Friday.

Schools will stay closed for another day and some events and shows in nearby towns are cancelled or will happen at a later time.

At the same time, many police officers from nearby towns and the state were searching through other towns, forests, and water areas. They kept searching until late on Thursday night. The police went to a house connected to the suspect, Robert Card, with permission to search it. They believe he has weapons and is a threat, so it’s best to stay away from him.

“We are terrified; he is still somewhere nearby,” said Nick Wilson, a 42-year-old co-owner of a childcare center in southern Maine, speaking to the BBC. “The horrible event that occurred was extremely violent. ”

So far, nobody has seen the suspect and the search has expanded to Canada. Border guards are now watching to prevent the suspect from entering the country.

The US Coast Guard is looking for the suspect in the Kennebec River. Lt Cmdr Ryan Koroknay said this on Thursday. Additionally, 80 FBI agents are helping to search for the suspect.

Frank was in the sandwich shop and he mentioned that the search is worrying, but he feels confident that he is not in any danger.

“He said that it is unlikely for him to be in the same place as me. ” “But I bet everyone who went bowling last night had the same thought. “

Adina advises Ghanaians to prioritize their health and wellbeing

Ghanaian singer Adina has encouraged fellow Ghanaians to prioritize their health and overall well-being. She emphasized the importance of taking time to relax and de-stress, noting that many individuals work tirelessly to support their families and meet work-related deadlines.

The pressures of daily responsibilities, such as work and bills, can lead to overwhelming stress, according to her observations.

“We’re all going through so much right now. And I know personally a lot of people that are all about their work, they wake up in the morning, they go to work, they travel like two hours to the workplace, come back late. They need to meet this deadline. Rent…” she lamented.

Adina emphasized the need for individuals to occasionally take a break and recharge, as the fast-paced nature of life can continue without any regard for time.

“It’s like they’re always talking about something. And I’m like, times are hard. Yes, but every once in a while, you need to take a minute to just breathe. Because we’re living.

“If you don’t take a life, it will just pass you by (and) before you realize, you are 30. Don’t spend life working, like being a slave or something like that. Leave when you’re tired. Take a moment,” she explained.

Adina highlighted the significance of seizing moments to live and savor life, which doesn’t necessarily require expensive outings but can be achieved through activities that promote relaxation and enjoyment.

“You don’t have to go to Santorini for it to be an actual vacation. It could just be you cooking in the house and inviting people over or going to your favorite restaurants or watching your favorite TV show, like something watching this show if you want,” she stated.

Runcorn drug dealer who fled UK after being exposed on Encrochat imprisoned

A man who ran away to the Netherlands after police found out he was a drug dealer through a secret messaging app has been put in jail.

The police in Cheshire discovered that Andrew Phillips was using Encrochat, a communication platform, to sell drugs.

The police said that the 38-year-old man ran away from his house in Abbey Hey, Runcorn, but was found at a house in Haarlem.

He admitted planning to sell very dangerous drugs and was given a punishment of 14 years in jail at Liverpool Crown Court.

A police spokesperson said that after investigating Phillips‘s messages, they found out that from March 27th to June 2nd, 2020, he organized numerous deliveries of cocaine and cannabis, and also distributed the drugs to other people.

They said he gave out at least 26 pounds (12 kilograms) of cocaine and 75 pounds (34 kilograms) of cannabis during that time.
The police went to his house on October 26, 2021 to arrest him, but he had already left the country.

Teaming up with the National Crime Agency and Dutch officials, he was discovered and taken into custody while leaving a home in Haarlem on March 30, 2022.

Detective Inspector Nick Henderson said that Cheshire Police had been very determined in their efforts to catch the people who were found to be using EncroChat.

He said that criminals like Phillips thought the service would always be safe and secure, so they could talk freely without getting caught. But while Phillips benefited from his criminal activities. It was bound to happen to him eventually.

  • United States targets Syria bases used by militants with ties to Iran

United States targets Syria bases used by militants with ties to Iran

The United States has attacked two places where Iran’s Revolutionary Guards keep their weapons and ammunition in eastern Syria.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said the airstrikes happened because Iranian-supported armed groups attacked US bases in Iraq and Syria recently.

He said that the US strikes were different from the fighting happening between Israel and Hamas.

Iran has not yet responded or made a statement about the matter.

The attacks happened on Friday morning around 4:30 in Abu Kamal, a town near the Iraq border.

We don’t know yet if anyone was hurt or killed in the attacks.

American and allied soldiers have been targeted in Iraq 12 times and in Syria 4 times during the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The Pentagon says that 21 US military personnel were hurt but not seriously.

American officials say that the attacks were done by Iranian groups who are working together with other groups in that area. Iran supports both Hamas, which is in charge of Gaza, and Hezbollah, which operates in Lebanon, by giving them weapons and financial assistance.

Mr Austin said that the attacks on US forces by Iran-backed groups are not acceptable and need to be stopped.

“If Iran’s allies keep attacking our forces, we will do whatever it takes to keep our people safe. ”

The White House announced on Thursday that President Joe Biden had sent a special message to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, advising them not to attack US personnel in the Middle East.

During a meeting at the United Nations in New York, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, cautioned that the United States would also face consequences if the violence in Gaza persists.

The United States has sent military ships and planes to the area recently. On Thursday, a US official mentioned that approximately 900 US soldiers were being relocated to the area.

American military bases in the Middle East have been attacked in the past, and as a result, the United States has responded by launching counterattacks.

In March, the United States did many air attacks in eastern Syria against groups connected to Iran. They did this because a drone attack killed an American worker.

  • Hajia4Real allegedly attempts to commit suicide

Hajia4Real allegedly attempts to commit suicide

Reports have surfaced suggesting that Ghanaian media personality, Hajia4Real, allegedly attempted to take her own life following recent court proceedings.

According to IG Blogger, @westafrican_celebs, during the court proceedings yesterday, five out of the six victims of Hajia4Real appeared in court with evidence that she scammed them.

The emergence of this new evidence has deeply affected her emotionally, as it now appears that she may not be able to avoid a lengthy prison sentence. Consequently, there is a possibility that the Ghanaian socialite might spend several years behind bars and could remain outside of Ghana for an extended period.

Hajia4Real, who was arrested in the United Kingdom and extradited to the US on May 12, 2023, to face six charges, pleaded not guilty in a Manhattan federal court.

The Ghanaian Financial Intelligence Centre (IFC), in collaboration with INTERPOL and the FBI, is now treating all individuals within her social and business network as persons of interest in the ongoing investigation.

Hajia4Real has numerous associates in both entertainment and business circles in Ghana, making this case of national and international significance.

The Deputy Manager of the Financial Intelligence Centre (IFC), Shaun Henry Osei, revealed this information during an interview with Accra-based Starr FM.

“Obviously, she’s not going to be working alone, she’s going to be working in a network. The evidence that you have access to will actually lead you to be able to find out who her greater network is and obviously, if you find her greater network, by instinct you will want to look at those people because then they become persons of interest.

The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) is Ghana’s national center responsible for receiving and analyzing reports on suspicious financial transactions and other information related to the detection of money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing offenses. The FIC processes this information and shares actionable intelligence with relevant competent authorities to combat these financial crimes.

  • Day two of manhunt for suspect in Maine shooting

Day two of manhunt for suspect in Maine shooting

The search for a US Army reserve soldier who is believed to have killed 18 people and hurt 13 others in a shooting in Maine is now in its second day.

The police are warning that Robert Card has a weapon and is very dangerous. They are telling people to stay inside their homes to stay safe.

On Thursday night, the police went to a house in Bowdoin, which is about a 20-minute drive away from Lewiston where the shooting happened the night before.

The police said they were carrying out many search warrants.

There were loud noises like explosions at the place, and the police were shouting for him to give up.

FBI agents and local police used a loudspeaker to tell the suspect to leave the house with their hands raised. But after a short time, the police left the area.

However, it is not clear why they started the search. A spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety said that the officers were just doing their job by following all the leads to find and catch Card.

The shooting started at a bowling alley in a small town called Lewiston, right before 7:00 PM local time (11:00 PM GMT), said the police colonel. Seven people died in that location – one woman and six men.

Around 10 minutes later, people heard shots fired at a restaurant close by called Schemengees Bar & Grille. Unfortunately, eight men lost their lives in the shooting.

Sixteen people got hurt and were taken to nearby hospitals. Sadly, three of them didn’t survive.

Right now, people in Lewiston and three nearby towns have been told to stay inside and not go out. Schools and many local businesses have closed and will stay closed on Friday.

Beyond a few people walking their dogs, it seemed like most individuals stayed home that day.

There is a lot of activity happening near the two places where shootings took place and the Central Maine Medical Center.

Dr John Alexander, who is the top doctor there, said that the attack is very rare for a small city. He said that around 50 doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and surgeons responded to the request for help in treating the victims.

The police in Maine said that the person they suspect of a crime had recently talked about having mental health problems. They mentioned that the person said they were hearing things and had made threats to shoot up a military base in southern Maine.

He was said to have entered a mental health center during the summer because he acted strangely while training at the US Military Academy.

The police said that he was not a firearms instructor and did not attend advanced weapons training, contradicting previous reports.

Janet Mills, who used to live in Lewiston and is now the Governor of Maine, described it as a very sad day for her state. She promised to do everything she can to make sure the victims and their families receive justice.

The FBI and other federal US law enforcement agencies are helping local and state police in searching for someone. Other states nearby are also giving supplies and staying watchful, because the person who might have done something wrong could have gone to a different state.

Canadian border officials have been told to be careful and watch out for the suspect.

Maine has the least number of murders compared to other states in the US. One of the most well-known writers in the state, horror author Stephen King, said that the shooting happened close to where he lives.

“He wrote on X, previously known as Twitter, expressing that this situation is very chaotic when it comes to freedom. He also requested the implementation of new laws to ensure the safe use of assault rifles. ”

A bar called Schemengees Bar & Grille wrote on Facebook: “Your whole life suddenly becomes chaotic and confusing for no good reason. ” We have sadly lost important individuals in our community. How can we understand this.

The attack started at Just-In-Time Recreation and was shared online with the message: “This all seems unreal, but sadly it is true. ” We cannot find any words that can solve or improve this situation.

President Joe Biden told people to lower the flags at the White House and other government buildings as a way to show respect for the people who have died.

He asked Republicans in Congress to pass laws to make guns safer.

“He said that we need to give every American who is affected by this recent attack, both physically and mentally, the very least that they deserve. ”

Maine Senator Susan Collins asked for a rule against high-capacity magazines during a news conference on Thursday.

“She told the reporters that we feel very sad. ” “This terrible attack took away the lives of at least 18 people from Maine and hurt many others. It is the most awful event of a lot of people being shot all at once that has ever happened in the state. ”

  • Indian former navy officers sentenced to death by Qatar

Indian former navy officers sentenced to death by Qatar

India has stated that it is looking into all possible legal actions after a court in Qatar gave a death sentence to eight former Indian naval officers, without specifying the charges.

According to reports, the men, who had jobs with a private company in Qatar, were arrested last year because they were believed to be spying.

Both Qatar and India have not told everyone what they are being charged with.

On Thursday, the government of India expressed their strong surprise and said they will discuss the decision with the authorities in Qatar.

India’s foreign ministry said that it is waiting for the detailed judgment and considers this case to be very important.

“We are staying in contact with the family and legal team. We are looking into all the legal choices we have. We cannot say more about this right now because the case details are confidential. ”

The text says that these men are workers for a company called Al Dahra, but many reports say that they used to work in the Indian Navy. Last year, in the government, the foreign minister called them “former soldiers” of the country. Some families have also told the local media about the identities and backgrounds of the men who serve in the Navy.

They were arrested last August and it was big news in India. However, not much is known about the charges against them.

According to The Hindu newspaper, the men were accused of doing something wrong with important information, but neither of the governments have confirmed this. The BBC could not check if the allegations were true on its own, but it has asked the Qatar embassy some questions.

Some smart people say that the current problems between two countries could have a negative effect on their relationship. There are more than 700,000 people from India in Qatar and we have a strong connection for trade and business. According to Former Indian ambassador to Qatar, Deepa Gopalan, the Indian government is closely monitoring the case and may have to address it at a high level to make sure that the lives of the people involved are protected.

In December, Mr. Jaishankar said that the government was talking with Qatar about a very delicate situation.

We prioritize their interests above everything else. Ambassadors and top officials frequently communicate with the government of Qatar. He said that they are our top priority.

Many people from India live in the Gulf region, and many of them have jobs that don’t require much skill and pay lower wages.

These migrant workers have been very important in developing the economies of Gulf Arab states and they also send a lot of money back to India.

  • India expresses ‘deep shock’ over death sentence by Qatar for alleged espionage

India expresses ‘deep shock’ over death sentence by Qatar for alleged espionage

Qatar has found eight Indian citizens guilty of espionage and has given them the punishment of death. This decision was made after the Indian government reported that these individuals were detained in Doha last year.

On Thursday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed being very surprised by the decision and promised to discuss the matter with authorities in Qatar.

The statement said that we are talking to the family and lawyers and looking into all the legal choices available to us.

The people from India who used to work in the Indian Navy have been identified as ex-servicemen. This information was mentioned in a letter written by the External Affairs Minister, S, and the letter is dated December 23 of the previous year. Jaishankar, who was shared by Indian lawmaker Manish Tewari, on a social media platform called X, previously known as Twitter.

Tewari says he received a letter as a response to his concerns about the unfair imprisonment of retired Navy officers, which he had raised in parliament.

MajorGeneral(retired) Satbir Singh, who leads the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement, said that the families of the men were very sad and upset.

“He said that these guys went to teach the Qatar Navy people, but now they are getting accused for spying. ”

Singh said the group has been supporting the men since they were kept in custody last year. They have been sending letters to important Indian government officials, like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to fight for their rights.

Out of the group of eight people, seven were in charge and one was a person who worked on a ship, according to what he said.

They are all older men who have different health problems that require care. The families are very upset and saddened by the news,” Singh said.

The Indian government did not provide any specific information about the accusations or the final decision. They also didn’t reveal the names of the people involved. However, they mentioned that the individuals were working for a company called Al Dahra, which is located in Qatar.

According to the United Nations, there are many Indian workers in Qatar. They make up a big part of the 2 million foreigners who work in the country. In fact, 95% of all workers in Qatar are from other countries.

  • Israel vows to carry out more operations in Gaza

Israel vows to carry out more operations in Gaza

The Israeli military carried out a focused operation in northern Gaza during the night. They also announced that they will continue conducting ground raids in the next few days. This happened while the United Nations General Assembly gathered to talk about a resolution suggesting a ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.

A video was shared by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Thursday. It showed tanks and armored vehicles, including a bulldozer, moving on a road near a fence in northern Gaza. The big military vehicles shot cannons, and some damage could be noticed close by.

In an interview with CNN, IDF spokesperson Peter Lerner explained that the raid was a planned and thorough operation to improve conditions for future ground operations. He also mentioned that the IDF fought against and successfully eliminated terrorists who were preparing to launch attacks against us using anti-tank guided missiles.

Israel’s military will continue to carry out attacks in Gaza in the following days, as confirmed by IDF spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari spoke at a press conference that was shown on TV later on Thursday. The ground attacks are meant to eliminate Hamas fighters, prepare for a full-scale invasion, and disable explosive devices and spying stations, according to him.

The attack happened when there was a big problem in Gaza, with many people needing help. This problem got worse because bombs were being dropped every day and Israel stopped fuel from getting into Gaza, which is very important for saving lives. The lack of electricity has seriously affected healthcare, and many people have had to leave their homes because of the bombings.

Israeli attacks have caused the deaths of over 6,850 individuals in Gaza since October 7. This includes thousands of children. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah obtained this information from sources in the Hamas-controlled enclave.

The international community is feeling more and more pressure to convince Israel to let aid into Gaza. The United Nations and some nearby countries are asking for an immediate stop to the fighting, while others want a temporary break to help with humanitarian relief. But the world has not been able to come together to deal with the crisis, even after almost three weeks since the violence started. The violence began after Hamas carried out terrible terror attacks on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,400 people in Israel and the kidnapping of over 200 people.

Riyad Mansour, the leader of the Palestinian Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations, asked a direct question to UN diplomats on Thursday when he told them about Palestinians who were killed in Gaza.

Mansour said that most of the people who were killed are regular people, not soldiers or fighters. “Are you defending this war. ”

Countries who are part of the United Nations are getting ready to vote on a suggested plan made by Jordan for the Arab states. This comes after multiple unsuccessful attempts to agree on something by the United Nations Security Council.

The resolution asks for a stop in the fighting, the freeing of hostages, and for the Palestinian people to not be forced to move from their homes. However, the resolutions made by the General Assembly are not legally required to be followed.

Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, spoke to a group of diplomats and stated that punishing a whole group of people is not a justified response to defend oneself. He received applause when he expressed concern for the well-being of all individuals, regardless of their religion or nationality.

Gilad Erdan, who represents Israel at the UN, strongly criticized the resolution being discussed. He said that requesting a ceasefire is like trying to prevent Israel from protecting its citizens by eliminating a major threat.

The United States has said no to ceasefire proposals and instead wants short breaks to let humanitarian aid enter Gaza. The US has said that it fully supports Israel’s need to protect itself.

On Thursday, the European Union got together in Brussels and said that there should be breaks in fighting in Gaza to provide help to those in need. However, they didn’t ask for a complete stop to the fighting.

Israel has promised to completely destroy Hamas, the militant group that runs Gaza. They have stated multiple times that after the current blockade, they will send in troops for a ground attack. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the War Cabinet of Israel would decide when to take action.

“We are aggressively attacking Hamas,” Netanyahu said on TV, while stating that Israel has already killed thousands of terrorists and there is more to come.

The prime minister admitted that he will be held responsible for the mistakes in intelligence that led to the biggest terrorist attack in Israeli history. He said that this will be thoroughly investigated after the war.

Israel’s internal security agency, the Shin Bet, said it has likely killed many of the top leaders in Hamas’ military division since they started attacking Gaza over two weeks ago. CNN cannot confirm Israel’s assessment and Hamas is not providing any comments on the number of fighters killed in Israeli attacks.

Israeli forces announced that they have killed a top Hamas official named Shadi Barud, who was involved in planning the October 7 attacks. This information was shared in a joint statement by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet). The Israeli military recently claimed that their intelligence reports indicate that air strikes have killed a leader of Hamas rocket units named Hassan Al-Abdullah. According to the military, he was in charge of these units in the Khan Younis area of Gaza.

The Israeli military and intelligence agency released a video that they say shows the attacks that caused the death of Barud. The video shows at least two buildings in Gaza that were damaged and seemed to collapse. Hamas hasn’t said anything about the statement.

Israel attacked Hamas targets in Gaza, causing significant damage to the densely populated area, which was already described as a prison by human rights organizations before the current conflict started.

New pictures from a satellite company called Maxar have been released. These pictures were taken on October 21. They show that there has been a lot of damage to places in northern Gaza. The houses in some neighborhoods in eastern Beit Hanoun have been completely destroyed. There has also been a lot of damage near the Al Shati Refugee Camp, Atatra, and Izbat Beit Hanoun.

The IDF advised people living in the busy northern area of the Palestinian enclave to leave because there has been intense bombing there. But it is also still attacking areas in the south, and a producer from CNN in Gaza said that there is nowhere safe.

During a press conference on Thursday, Ashraf Al-Qidra, a spokesperson for the health ministry in Gaza, mentioned that 12 hospitals have stopped functioning ever since Israel’s air campaign started. Additionally, 101 medical staff members have unfortunately lost their lives.

He said that Israeli forces purposely made the healthcare system in Gaza fail by stopping fuel and important medical supplies from coming in. Israel is not letting fuel go into Gaza because they believe that Hamas uses it for military reasons instead of for the people.

On Wednesday, Al Jazeera reported that their leader in Gaza, Wael Al-Dahdouh, tragically lost his wife, son, daughter, and grandson in an attack by Israel’s airstrikes. According to Al Jazeera, there was an explosion that happened in a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. The family who lived in the house had been forced to leave their previous home and were staying there for safety. A statement from the family said that a total of 12 Al-Dahdouh family members died in the explosion. This includes nine kids.

The IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) confirmed to CNN that they did launch an airstrike in the place where Al-Dahdouh’s family members were killed. They stated that their objective was to destroy Hamas’ terrorist facilities in that area.

The text means that when attacking military targets, it is important to follow the rules of international law. This includes taking steps to prevent innocent civilians from getting hurt.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), since the conflict started, 24 journalists have lost their lives as of Wednesday. According to CPJ, 20 Palestinians, 3 Israelis, and 1 Lebanese journalist were killed.

Busy hospitals about to fail say they have too many injured people coming in every day and doctors have told CNN many times that they don’t have the things they need to take care of them properly, like supplies and electricity. This affects not only those patients, but also others who need oxygen to stay alive.

Videos filmed by CNN journalists showed dead bodies wrapped in bags after bombings and lots of injured people, including kids, in hospitals that were very full.

About 14 million out of the 2 million people in Gaza have had to leave their homes since October 7. Currently, around 629,000 of them are staying in UN shelters, as reported by OCHA. Half of the people in Gaza are kids.

The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Gaza said on Wednesday that it will have to stop providing aid within a day if it doesn’t receive fuel. This means that the essential help it offers to the local people will stop.

Tom White, the person in charge of helping people in Gaza, said that the workers who give aid will have to choose what kinds of help they can give to people and what they can’t.

“He asked if we supply fuel for desalination plants that create drinking water. He asked if we can provide fuel to hospitals. He asked if we can provide the fuel needed to make bread for the people in Gaza. ”

According to the UN humanitarian office, at least 38 United Nations workers have been killed.

At the same time in Moscow, people from Hamas had a meeting with an important person from the Russian foreign ministry on Thursday, as stated by Russian state media TASS and a statement from Hamas. According to TASS, the talks were about freeing the people who were being held by Hamas and getting Russians out of Gaza.

The Hamas group said they are very happy with what Russian President Vladimir Putin is doing and they think that the Russian diplomats are doing a great job. Mousa Abu Marzouk and Basem Naim, two important leaders of Hamas from Gaza, met with Mikhail Bogdanov, a Russian government official who focuses on the Middle East and Africa.

Israel became very angry when they heard about the meeting. Israel is unhappy about the invitation of important Hamas members to Moscow. They believe that this is supporting terrorism and making it seem like the terrible things that Hamas does are okay. Israel wants Russia to kick out the Hamas group right away.

Qatar is trying to help negotiate between Egypt, the US, Israel, and Hamas. The prime minister and foreign minister of Qatar said on Wednesday that they are hopeful for a positive outcome in talks to free the hostages being held by the militant group.

The hostage situation involves people from different countries.

Israel’s government press office stated that out of the total number of hostages being held by Hamas, which is more than half, 135 of them have foreign passports from 25 different countries.

There are 54 people from Thailand, 15 from Argentina, and 12 from Germany and the US included in the group.

Four people who were being held against their will – two from the United States and two from Israel – have been released up until now. Hamas is holding more people captive in Gaza, but negotiations to release them are still happening, according to Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the foreign minister of Qatar.

US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he advised Netanyahu to try and free hostages in Gaza before launching a ground invasion if it’s possible.

But Biden clearly said “no” when asked if he had asked his Israeli counterpart to wait before invading the ground while the hostages are held.

  • Investors aren’t interested in the Ghanaian music industry- KiDi

Investors aren’t interested in the Ghanaian music industry- KiDi

Ghanaian musician KiDi has expressed his concerns about the challenges faced by many creatives in the music industry.

He mentioned that many artists are relying on “vibes and insha Allah” to make their way in the industry. KiDi also recognized that everyone in the industry is doing their best with the resources available.

“We are doing our best with what we have, if you have conversation with Ghanaian creators, you realize that everybody is really doing their best with what they have.

“We wish for catalysts, things that put whatever we’re doing on a wider horizon.
But this is what we have. Even though we are fighting, we won’t fold our arms and complain. We’ll work till we get to that stage where we have what we want,” he said.

He recognized that securing investments from individuals who believe in their vision is crucial. However, KiDi pointed out the lack of a well-defined system within the industry which makes it challenging to attract investments.

“That conversation is a wider conversation because there’s so many things plucked into this one problem. If I’m an investor, and I’m coming to invest in a system. What is the system? There is no system to even be attractive,” he said.

KiDi highlighted that many artists rely on their passion and dedication to overcome challenges in the industry. He emphasized the significance of identifying solutions and maintaining perseverance, rather than fixating on the problems.

“That’s why a lot of us, it is our passion and passion is what makes the difference between when the thing is weighing you down, you’re still pushing because it’s what you love to do.

“So we’ll keep working hard. I will not come and sit and say, this thing is not working for me. Yes, there’s things that are bad, but my mentality is to always forge on, like, keep going, no matter what the thing is.

“I’ll find a plan to manoeuvre my way around it until I can get it fixed,” he said.

  • South Korean court upholds prohibition on gay sex in military

South Korean court upholds prohibition on gay sex in military

The Constitutional Court of South Korea has confirmed a law that forbids same-sex relationships in the military. They said it could harm the readiness for combat. The country’s LGBTQ community sees this decision as a disappointing step backwards.

On Thursday, the court made a decision with a vote of 5 in favor and 4 against. They did not agree to say that a part of the Military Criminal Act is against the constitution. This part says that “anal intercourse” or any other indecent act is not allowed while serving in the military, and people can be put in prison for up to two years for doing these acts.

Although the law does not specifically mention relationships between people of the same sex, it is commonly understood and interpreted that way. LGBTQ activists have been against this law for a while because they consider it discriminatory.

In the past, many people have been arrested using the law, which some people think was unfairly targeting gay people.

The court said in its decision on Thursday that if soldiers were allowed to have same-sex relationships, it could cause problems with maintaining discipline and potentially disrupt the chain of command in the army.

If people agree to have sex, it can still cause a lot of harm to the military if it happens while they are working.

Four judges who disagreed with the majority concluded that the language of the article is unclear and can be interpreted in different ways. Three of those judges also warned against restricting someone’s sexual orientation in the name of military discipline.

They are not sure if the law only prohibited inappropriate behavior between soldiers of the same sex or if it also included inappropriate behavior between male and female soldiers.

The activist group Rainbow Action is not happy with the ruling. They think the court did not do a good job of protecting the minority’s rights.

However, the group found hope in the comments made by the judges who disagreed with the majority, as they cautioned against labeling sexual acts between same-sex couples as abnormal.

The judges who disagreed said that there is no good reason to treat consensual sexual acts between soldiers of the same sex and those between opposite-sex soldiers differently.

The group emphasized that the provision in the Military Criminal Act which addresses indecent acts is discriminatory towards sexual minorities.

Amnesty International’s East Asia Researcher, Boram Jang, expressed concern over the Korean military continuing to criminalize consensual same-sex acts. Jang sees this as a significant setback in the ongoing fight for equality in the country.

The researcher said the ruling highlighted the common bias that sexual minorities experience in South Korea and the government’s inaction to support and promote equality for them.

South Korea has one of the largest active armies in the world because almost all men between 18 and 28 are required to serve in the military.

This case is one of the few that has been brought to the South Korean courts. The district courts decided to send it to the constitutional branch because they felt that there might be a problem with the phrase “any other indecent act. ”

South Korea doesn’t consider same-sex marriage as legal, but activists say there has been improvement on LGBTQ rights lately.

In February, a court made an important decision in support of a gay couple who wanted fair access to health benefits. The supporters and activists were really happy about the decision because it was the first time that the legal rights of this type of couples were acknowledged.

The person named So Seong-wook went to court because the National Health Insurance Service, which is connected to the government, began asking him to pay insurance fees even though he is considered a dependent of his male partner.

However, Christian and conservative groups have been showing a strong increase in opposition lately.

In May, South Korea’s largest LGBTQ pride celebration, Seoul Queer Culture Festival, was unable to get permission to use its usual location for their event. Instead, the venue was used for a Christian youth concert.

A month later, there were fights in the city of Daegu. Local leaders, including the mayor, argued with the police during a protest against the Daegu Queer Culture Festival.

People who disagreed, like Christian groups, tried and did not succeed in stopping the festival through a court order. The mayor, Hong Joon-pyo, had expressed disapproval of the festival because he believed it promoted an inappropriate understanding of sex among young people.

  • Keta Municipal Council temporarily bans fishing in Keta Lagoon due to high water levels

Keta Municipal Council temporarily bans fishing in Keta Lagoon due to high water levels

The Keta Municipal Security Council has issued a temporary ban on fishing activities in the region.

This decision comes as a response to the elevated water levels caused by the opening of the flood control gate at the Havedzi-Kedzi estuary, allowing the Keta Lagoon to flow into the sea.

The Keta Lagoon had exceeded its boundaries due to the ongoing spillage of the Akosombo Dam. Emmanuel Gemegah, the Municipal Chief Executive of Keta, explained that the fishing ban is aimed at safeguarding the lives of the fishermen.

“The spillage of the Akosombo Dam ends up in the Keta Lagoon because where it will have to pass through into the sea has been affected and therefore raised the water level. Apart from the River Volta, we also have other water bodies in addition to rainfall and so there is high pressure in the Keta Lagoon, and we feel if we should allow anybody to get close, we may lose lives and properties.”

  • Former Chinese Premier Li Keqiang passed away at age 68 – State media

Former Chinese Premier Li Keqiang passed away at age 68 – State media

Report says Li Keqiang, a former leader of China, passed away due to a sudden heart attack in Shanghai on Friday. He was known for his ideas on making changes in the country.

He was 68 years of age.

China’s number one, Li, was given the title but did not have much real power. Two leaders were in power until last year. One of them was in charge of the country’s economy for ten years, from 2013 to March of this year. This leader served under the supervision of Xi Jinping, a strong ruler.

During his time as the boss, Li guided the world’s second-biggest economy through a tough period of increasing problems with technology and trade with the United States, growing government debt and unemployment, and the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his last year as the leader, the economist talked a lot about the problems China’s economy faced because of the Covid-19 lockdowns. He supported actions to create more jobs and keep the economy stable.

Li is known for using his English skills sometimes when he appears outside of mainland China. He also represents a different way of thinking about China’s relationships with other countries. This is important because China’s relationships with Western countries are becoming more difficult.

Li said that China and the United States have similar things they care about, in response to a question from CNN during his yearly press conference in March 2021. The two countries should focus more on what they have in common and try to find more ways to work together.

As people heard about Li’s death on Friday morning, they shared a quote from his speech in 2022 where he promised that China will stay open to the world, no matter what happens internationally.

Li, a person with advanced knowledge and skills in technology and industry, who has studied law and economics, was seen as someone who supported private businesses. He was also seen to have a different policy view from Xi, who has increased party control over the economy.

Li was in charge of many of China’s actions to support economic growth for ten years. He believed in connecting China’s economy with the rest of the world, but Xi started to ignore him.

In recent years, people from other countries started to think that Beijing might not continue with its policy of “reform and opening. ” However, Li kept telling foreign business leaders and local officials that economic development is still the most important thing for the party.

During the lockdowns caused by Covid, he organized meetings where he told government departments to help foreign companies overcome obstacles to start producing again.

According to Willy Lam, a senior fellow at the Jamestown Foundation think tank in the US, Li is the only member of the Politburo Standing Committee who openly supported Deng Xiaoping’s open-door policy. This policy goes against Xi Jinping’s preference for state-controlled measures.

Li is also known for talking about problems in society. People on social media noticed that he said that 600 million people in China, which is about 40% of the population, only make 1,000 yuan ($137) per month.

These comments were made during the leader’s yearly meeting with journalists in 2020. They reminded everyone that China is still facing challenges in helping its citizens escape poverty, despite the leader praising China’s efforts in this area as something the whole country can be proud of.

During the pandemic, when Beijing’s rules made a big part of the country stop, Li asked the local leaders to follow the rules seriously and help the economy, small businesses, and jobs.

He was the most important official to visit Wuhan in January 2020, during a time when the city was locked down and struggling with a large number of infections in the first known Covid-19 outbreak.

Some things Li did to improve the economy seemed to show that he didn’t have a good relationship with Xi. Many people believed that Li didn’t have as much power as past premiers.

When the leader suggested bringing back street stalls to help the economy and solve the problem of a lot of people not having jobs, some media organizations didn’t like the idea.

The criticism from party supporters created rumors of disagreement between the two top party leaders on how to boost the economy while dealing with strict pandemic measures.

Li is often seen as someone who learned from Xi’s predecessor, Hu Jintao. Hu guided China through a period of quick growth from 2002 to 2012. The men had similar ideas about money and how it should be handled. They gained power by being part of the Communist Party’s Youth League, which used to be a place where future leaders were trained.

The group was famous for creating leaders who wanted to change things, and these leaders came from ordinary families. However, it is thought that Xi has ended their power and influence since he became the leader.

Last year, people paid a lot of attention to the connection between Li and Hu. During the end ceremony of the October 2022 Communist Party Congress, Li, who used to be a powerful leader, was unexpectedly taken away. This happened while Xi was strengthening his control over the party.

During an event that is usually very planned and organized, Hu was taken out of the room by someone. As he left, he stopped to gently touch Li, who had a serious expression, on the shoulder. Li nodded and then looked towards the departing former leader. According to official media, it was later suggested that Hu had to leave because of health problems.

During Hu’s leadership, Li became a member of the Politburo Standing Committee in 2007.

He used to be very important in a political party in a province that has a lot of factories. Then he became the leader of another province that is known for farming.

Li was born in Anhui. When he was a teenager, he worked hard on a farm in the eastern province during a time called the Cultural Revolution. This was a big change in society and politics in China that lasted for ten years, and was led by Mao Zedong.

Li was one of the first.

  • EU declines advocating for ceasefire in Gaza prior to UN vote as situation there deteriorates

EU declines advocating for ceasefire in Gaza prior to UN vote as situation there deteriorates

The leaders of the European Union have not asked for a complete stop to the fighting in Gaza. Instead, they are requesting short breaks to send aid to the people there. The United Nations said their work in Gaza is not able to continue because of Israel’s constant bombing of the area.

The statement was released after meetings in Brussels on Thursday. The United Nations Security Council has tried multiple times to pass a resolution on the war between Israel and Hamas, but has been unsuccessful. Member states are now preparing to vote on a new resolution proposed by Jordan on behalf of Arab states on Friday.

The Foreign Minister of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, said to diplomats at the United Nations Assembly Hall that punishing everyone for one person’s actions is not a way to protect oneself. The resolution asks for the fighting to stop, for hostages to be released, and for no one to be forced to leave their homes.

Over 2 million people in Gaza are going through a worsening crisis because of daily bombings and a blockage of fuel that is needed to save lives. Israel claims that Hamas is gathering and storing fuel for its own purposes, and has requested that Hamas, the powerful Palestinian group in control of Gaza, distribute it to others as well. The lack of electricity has greatly affected healthcare, and many people have had to leave their homes because of the bombings.

Since October 7, Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of over 7,028 individuals in Gaza. Among the victims are numerous children. This information was reported on Thursday by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas.

People all over the world are urging Israel to let aid into Gaza, which really needs it. The United Nations and some countries nearby are asking for a quick stop to the fighting, while others think there should be a temporary break so people can get the help they need.

However, the world has not been able to come together and agree on what to do about the crisis. It has been almost three weeks since the violence started, which was caused by Hamas’ violent attacks and kidnappings on October 7. These attacks resulted in the deaths of over 1,400 people in Israel and over 200 people being taken hostage in Gaza.

The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, said on Thursday that requests for a ceasefire were not about trying to achieve peace. Instead, they were about restricting Israel’s ability to protect its citizens and deal with a significant threat.

Israel is not fighting against people, they are fighting against very bad creatures. They want to completely destroy Hamas and will do whatever it takes to achieve this.

He said this while the Defense Minister said that Israel’s troops are getting ready for the next part of their fight against Hamas. People think this will be through a ground attack.

The movement will start when the circumstances are suitable. These conditions are complicated because the campaign is also complicated. “The soldiers are prepared,” Gallant said during a meeting in Tel Aviv.

Israel’s military carried out a planned operation in northern Gaza last night. They have promised to continue carrying out similar operations on the ground in the next few days.

The goal of the incursions is to target and eliminate Hamas fighters, prepare for a full-scale invasion, and disable bombs and surveillance posts. This information comes from a spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Daniel Hagari spoke on Thursday.

There were six people hurt when a rocket hit Taba, a city by the Red Sea in Egypt.

The rocket hit a building where ambulances are kept and also hit a residential area of the hospital’s office building in a city that is next to Israel. We don’t know yet who shot the rocket or from where, but the IDF said they know about the security issue.

The health ministry in Gaza, controlled by Hamas, released a long report with many names of people who died since October 7. They say that these deaths were caused by the Israeli military’s attacks.

The ministry said that many more people have likely died than what has been reported. The report does not include people who have not been identified, those who were buried without being officially registered at the hospital, or those who are still missing. There are about 1,600 people who are still missing.

The list doesn’t separate people involved in combat and those not involved, but it does include information about age, gender, and the ID card number of the victims. This list was released after US President Joe Biden expressed doubt about the number of civilian casualties reported by the Gaza Health Ministry.

Israel and the US have said they are not sure if the numbers of people who died in Gaza are accurate, but they have not shown any proof that the numbers are too high.

White House spokesperson John Kirby said that the ministry in Gaza is secretly affiliated with Hamas. However, he did not deny that many Palestinians, including innocent civilians, have been killed.

The leader of the US-supported Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, Mohammad Shtayyeh, stated that the PA’s own health authority believes the numbers are accurate.

“These numbers belong to us,” Shtayyeh said in an interview on Thursday with Al Jazeera. “Every day, the hospitals in Gaza send us these numbers. Our Ministry of Health receives them. ”

The Palestinian Authority in Ramallah is led by a different group than Hamas, and it oversees the Ministry of Health, which has a connection with the Gaza ministry. Every day, the number of people who have died in Gaza is reported in both Gaza and Ramallah.

Israel has said that Hamas is in charge of important fuel supplies in Gaza. This is a big problem because hospitals, bakeries, and UN humanitarian efforts might have to stop working because they don’t have enough fuel.

Juliette Touma, who is in charge of communication for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), has said that if the agency does not receive sufficient fuel, it will have to completely stop its operations. The fuel is necessary to generate electricity for hospitals and to desalinate water.

Touma said that UNRWA is still having a hard time because they have very little fuel, and the amount they have is getting even less. There is still limited supply of deliveries to places like hospitals and bakeries. UNRWA is having trouble because they are not getting enough fuel to the Gaza Strip.

The IDF explained that the issue in Gaza is not a shortage of fuel. Instead, it is caused by Hamas, the group in control of the situation.

Colonel Avichay Adraee stated that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) successfully targeted and destroyed a Hamas military compound in the Gaza Strip. The operation was carried out in retaliation for the ongoing rocket attacks fired by Hamas towards Israeli territories. ColonelAccording to Israeli military intelligence, Hamas has control of a large amount of fuel, which ranges from 800,000 to potentially over one million liters, stored in Gaza. Jonathan Conricus shared this information with CNN on Thursday.

“He said that some of it was collected and stored earlier, some were taken without permission from the UN, and some were taken by Hamas from private sellers. ”
Israel is stopping the delivery of fuel to Gaza completely because they think Hamas would use it for military purposes instead.

In simpler words, Tamara Alrifai, who works for UNRWA, said that it doesn’t matter if there are other sources of fuel in Gaza. UNRWA is a humanitarian organization and they shouldn’t have to beg for fuel to keep doing their work.

With very little fuel left, UNWRA is having to choose whether to provide electricity to bakeries or hospitals. More than 600,000 people have been forced to leave their homes and now only get one piece of bread a day.

On Thursday, twelve trucks with aid went into Gaza from Egypt. They brought water, food, medicine, and medical supplies, but no fuel. The Palestine Red Crescent Society reported this.

According to PRCS, 74 trucks have entered the area since humanitarian aid transfers started again a few days ago.

Usually, there would be about 455 daily, the United Nations said. This means that essential supplies are coming into the area much slower than necessary.

The hospitals are very full and close to breaking down because there are too many injured people. Doctors have told CNN many times that they don’t have enough supplies or electricity to properly take care of them.

  • Dam spillage flooding: Water levels decreasing – NADMO

Dam spillage flooding: Water levels decreasing – NADMO

Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Seji Saji Amedonu, has announced that water levels in communities affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage are gradually declining.

He estimates that it will take approximately one week for the water to fully recede, given the current rate of decline.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Amedonu disclosed that the water started receding around two days ago, adding that there has been a notable reduction in water levels, particularly in the affected communities.

“What it is telling us is that we are beginning to see the start of the end of this. It might take some time, but at the rate at which it is receding, if it continues this way, I am very confident that in about a week or so, we will not have that level of water in the communities again,” he said.

He also warned that even when the water levels have completely receded, extensive work would be needed before residents can move back into their buildings. “The level of contamination of that water is quite high,” Amedonu stated.

Displaced residents, currently housed in schools and makeshift structures, may face a prolonged period of uncertainty as they await a decision from the government about their future. The government has yet to confirm whether these residents will be permanently relocated or offered more durable housing solutions.

Over the past fortnight, individuals affected by the flooding—resulting from the water spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong dams—have been seeking governmental and philanthropic assistance for resettlement. Proposals have also been made by the Minority in Parliament to relocate the victims to the stalled Saglemi housing project.

Addressing the issue on Tuesday, 24 October 2023, Deputy Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the flood victims. Health officials from the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health have already been dispatched to the affected areas. “We have the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service ensuring that we don’t have any disease outbreaks and provide primary care to the people,” she noted.

She further added that testing is underway to assess the habitability of the affected areas. “It is that information that will inform some decisions by the committee,” she said.

As part of the ongoing rescue mission, which commenced on 13 October 2023, a total of 12,000 people have been rescued from Mepe and various other areas in the Volta Region. The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) reported that as of Sunday, 22 October, the flooding in Mepe, one of the communities severely affected by the dam spillage, has been significantly controlled.

While official efforts continue, generous individuals and organisations are also contributing relief items to those impacted by this natural disaster.

  • Keta MP calls for the resignation of Sanitation Minister

Keta MP calls for the resignation of Sanitation Minister

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, has emphatically called for the immediate resignation of the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Dr. Freda Prempeh, asserting that she is unfit for her ministerial role.

This demand comes in response to a recent statement made by the minister concerning the communities impacted by the flood resulting from the dam spillage.

The Sanitation Minister, Freda Prempeh, remarked that the government, Volta River Authority (VRA), and National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) were unjustly blamed, despite the extensive education and other efforts they initiated from January 2023 until early September when the spillage was imminent.

In an interview with GhanaWeb, the MP, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, expressed his concerns about the minister’s statements and asked that she resign.

“For the Sanitation Minister, being a minister of state she knows the ramification of her statement. I am just calling on the sanitation minister to resign humbly. Because she is not fit for purpose. We are in a crisis, and there are a lot of sanitation issues and instead of providing leadership and providing hope for the people, she chose to insult the people of the Volta region.

Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey further expressed that Dr. Freda Prempeh, who also serves as a Member of Parliament, should have fostered collaboration with the MPs representing the affected constituencies to jointly address the disaster, instead of making statements that imply the blame should be placed on the affected community members.

“She is a member of parliament and she is supposed to know what is expected of her. She needs to do the needful.

“You have colleagues and members of parliament whose areas have been flooded by the negligence of VRA, this is a made-up disaster, not a natural disaster,” he said.

He continued: “Instead of her calling on us so we give her the briefing with her leadership at the minister of sanitation, to see now best to even come to our aid to actually help the people in the 11 constituency affected, she chose to sit in Accra to say that they are spending a lot of money to purify the water for the people to drink, are we the people who caused it?”

  • EU leaders will talk on humanitarian breaks in Gaza

EU leaders will talk on humanitarian breaks in Gaza

European Union leaders are gathering in Brussels for a meeting, but the main issues are the conflict between Hamas and Israel and the EU’s inability to show a united front.

For a long time, the European Union has been unsure about what its position should be on the war. There have been confusing statements, embarrassing mistakes, and different opinions from different countries about the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

But after a few days of not being able to agree, leaders of the European Union want to find a position that everyone can agree on.

The question is whether to support a stop to the fighting or breaks in fighting to provide help to people.

Charles Michel, the head of the European Council, is very worried about the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. He and other leaders want to make it easier for people in Gaza to get things like food, water, medical care, fuel, and shelter.

They want to improve the conditions so that more than 200 hostages taken by Hamas gunmen during their attack on 7 October can be released safely. Some of the people being kept as prisoners are citizens of two European countries, like Germany, France, Portugal, and the Netherlands.

EU countries have very different opinions, which makes things very confusing.

When he got to the meeting, Spain’s temporary prime minister Pedro Sánchez said he wants a pause in the fighting between Israel and Palestine. He said if a pause is not possible, he wants a break in the fighting to help bring urgent aid to the Palestinian people.

Some people are unsure about asking for a break in the fighting and say that it might be seen as stopping Israel from protecting itself.

Germany and other countries are against the idea of having only one humanitarian break because it is too similar to a ceasefire, and Israel has the right to protect itself from attacks.

One diplomat told the BBC that what they needed was shorter breaks in the fighting instead. A pause is when actors stop completely, but pauses are only temporary. “They said that they only need help for a few hours at a time. ”

Germany, Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic strongly support Israel. Spain and Ireland have a stronger connection or alignment with the Palestinian cause.

Some leaders from Europe have been visiting the Middle East for diplomatic reasons. Italy’s leader Giorgia Meloni, Germany’s leader Olaf Scholz, and France’s leader Emmanuel Macron have all spoken with Egypt’s leader Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

On Wednesday, the leader of Austria, Karl Nehammer, and the leader of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, went to visit Israel.

People have different opinions about the EU’s leadership as well.

The EU gives the most money to the Palestinians. When Oliver Varhelyi, who is in charge of EU policy towards neighboring countries, said that all payments to the Palestinians were being stopped and new budget plans were being delayed after the Hamas attack, aid agencies became very concerned and worried.

The European Commission quickly released a statement saying that they will not stop €691m (£600m) of aid, but they will review it. They also mentioned that they will triple the amount of aid they provide to Palestinians.

When Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, traveled to Israel with the President of the European Parliament, she received criticism for supporting Israel’s right to protect itself without mentioning the importance of following international humanitarian law. There didn’t seem to be any attempt to communicate with the Palestinian Authority.

However, a European Union diplomat told reporters that not everything Ms. von der Leyen said in Israel was shared on social media. The diplomat said that if you want to be effective, you shouldn’t use aggressive or forceful tactics when communicating. “The Israeli government pays attention to us when we discuss things privately. ”

In a very surprising action, more than 800 EU staff and diplomats wrote a public letter expressing their disapproval of her “uncontrolled” support for Israel. They were unhappy with the Commission’s different treatment of situations. They explained that when Russia blocked Ukraine, it was seen as a terrifying action, but when Israel blocked Gaza, it was completely overlooked.

James Moran from the Centre for European Policy Studies said to the BBC that the EU’s response has been both unfortunate and confusing.

In the past, the EU has usually been fair when dealing with conflicts in the Middle East. For instance, in 2014 people quickly asked for fighting to stop.
The EU doesn’t have its own soldiers, ships, or planes, but it has been very helpful in the Middle East by using its diplomacy skills.

In 1980, when it had only nine members, the group created the important Venice Declaration which acknowledged that the Palestinian people have the right to choose their own future.

In 2023, according to an EU diplomat speaking to the BBC, there are 27 countries in the EU with very different opinions about the Middle East.

This was made clear during a meeting of EU foreign ministers this week. It is said that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock disagreed with having a humanitarian ceasefire because Hamas was still shooting rockets at Israel.

The EU has not been able to agree on the type of break they should have.

  • How many times should a person urinate daily?

How many times should a person urinate daily?

The number of times a person should urinate daily can vary depending on several factors, including their age, fluid intake, and overall health. On average, most adults urinate about 6 to 7 times a day. However, it’s important to note that “normal” urination frequency can range from 4 to 10 times a day for adults.

Factors that can influence how often you urinate include:

    1. Fluid intake: The more fluids you drink, the more you’ll urinate. If you’re adequately hydrated, you may urinate more frequently.
    2. Diet: Certain foods and beverages, like those with diuretic properties (e.g., coffee, tea, alcohol), can increase urination.
    3. Age: Children and older adults may urinate more frequently due to differences in bladder capacity and function.
    4. Medical conditions: Some medical conditions, such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), diabetes, and overactive bladder, can cause increased urination.
    5. Medications: Certain medications can affect urinary frequency as a side effect.

It’s essential to pay attention to changes in your urination habits. If you notice a significant increase or decrease in urination frequency or if you experience discomfort, pain, or other concerning symptoms during urination, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare provider. These changes could be signs of an underlying medical issue that requires attention.

  • 7 signs to know a lady is in love

7 signs to know a lady is in love

While it’s important to remember that every individual is unique and may express their feelings differently, there are some common signs that can indicate when a lady is in love. Here are seven signs to look out for:

    1. She prioritizes your happiness: When a woman is in love, she genuinely cares about your well-being and happiness. She will go out of her way to make you smile and feel content, even if it means sacrificing her own comfort.
    2. She wants to spend time with you: Love often prompts a desire for togetherness. If she frequently wants to spend time with you, whether it’s going on dates, watching movies, or simply being in each other’s company, it’s a strong sign of affection.
    3. She’s a good listener: When a lady is in love, she pays close attention to what you say. She’s genuinely interested in your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. You’ll notice that she remembers details from your conversations.
    4. She shows affection: Love often leads to physical affection, such as holding hands, hugging, or cuddling. If she initiates physical contact or responds warmly to your gestures of affection, it’s a sign she cares deeply.
    5. She introduces you to her inner circle: When a woman is in love, she wants you to be a part of her life and will introduce you to her friends and family. This is a significant step, as it indicates a desire for a long-term connection.
    6. She’s supportive: Love involves being there for each other through thick and thin. If she offers emotional support during challenging times, encourages your goals and dreams, and celebrates your achievements, it’s a clear sign of love.
    7. She says “I love you”: While actions often speak louder than words, the verbal expression of love is a powerful sign. When she says “I love you” and means it sincerely, it’s one of the most direct indications of her feelings.

Remember that communication is essential in any relationship. If you’re unsure about her feelings, it’s perfectly okay to have an open and honest conversation about your emotions and intentions.

  • UN scales back humanitarian efforts in Gaza as fuel runs out

UN scales back humanitarian efforts in Gaza as fuel runs out

The UN aid agencies are cutting back their work in the Gaza Strip because they have almost run out of fuel.

A little bit of fuel is being taken from existing fuel supplies to keep the water supply working in the south. Many people are staying there to stay safe from the strikes by Israel.

But, they will finish on Thursday.

The organizations claim that they have decreased their help for busy hospitals and bakeries providing food for people who have been forced to leave their homes.

Juliette Touma from the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa, told the BBC that the situation in the Gaza Strip is unlike anything we have ever seen before.

Two million people are being choked or suffocated. Very little help is being given to Gaza from outsiders and it is causing a lot of suffering.

Israel started a bombing mission in Gaza, stopped the supply of electricity and most water, and blocked the delivery of food, fuel, and other items. They did this in response to an attack by Hamas on October 7th, where at least 1,400 people died and 224 were taken as hostages.

Gaza’s health ministry, which is controlled by Hamas, says that more than 7,000 people have died in Gaza since then. The health system is in a very bad state, with about one third of hospitals not working properly and the rest only able to help with emergency situations.
Since Saturday, at least 74 trucks carrying food, water, and medical supplies have entered Egypt through the Rafah border crossing. However,Touma believes that this is a small amount compared to the huge demand for these essentials. Before the war, around 500 trucks were permitted to enter Gaza each day.

MsTouma said that Unrwa urgently needs fuel to keep helping the 629,000 displaced people living in its facilities. Many people in the northern part of Gaza had to leave their homes because the Israeli military said it was safer for them to do so.

We are the biggest group that helps people in need, and we are about to stop doing our work. We are not allowed to do what the UN General Assembly told us to do. All we want is to be able to do our work, she said.

Israel is not letting fuel deliveries enter because they think it might be used by Hamas for their military activities. Israel sees Hamas as a terrorist group, and so do the UK, US, and some other powerful countries.

The Israeli military spokesperson, Lt Col Jonathan Conricus, said in a video on a social media website named X that they don’t want the hospitals or all of Gaza to run out of fuel.

But he suggested that Unrwa should ask Hamas to give them some of the large amount of fuel that the military says is being kept in tanks near the border with Egypt.

“He said there is plenty for hospitals and water pumps to operate for several days. ” The main things that are important are not the same. Hamas wants to keep all the fuel for their ability to fight in wars, which means normal people won’t have any fuel for themselves.

When asked about the claim, the UN’s regional humanitarian chief, Lynn Hastings, said to the BBC that they do not have any information about Hamas having access to any other fuel.

I understand that Israelis are worried about this, and it’s justified. We are trying to talk to the Israelis about getting enough fuel for the humanitarian work.
Ms Hastings said that if Gaza’s hospitals don’t have fuel for their back-up generators, they won’t be able to take care of around 1,000 patients who need kidney dialysis treatment, 130 premature babies who are in incubators, and patients in intensive care who need ventilators.

Gaza’s water desalination and pumping stations would stop working too.

Right now, there is not much clean water for drinking. So, people have to drink dirty or salty water, or sometimes both.

This means that when there is no electricity, the sanitation system gets clogged because it can’t pump sewage into the sea. We expect sewage to flow onto the streets very soon.

Ms Hastings also said in another statement that the Israeli military was still telling people in Gaza City to leave even though they had nowhere to go or couldn’t move.

She cautioned that when the roads for leaving are attacked, when people in both the north and south are involved in fighting, when there is not enough of what is necessary to stay alive, and when there is no guarantee of being able to come back, people are left with very difficult decisions.

On Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces said that Hamas is using civilians to protect themselves and preventing them from leaving south.

The statement said that in the past, they have used different ways to accomplish their goals, such as setting up roadblocks.

  • We are building a protest culture – Barker Vormawor

We are building a protest culture – Barker Vormawor

The convenor for the FixTheCountry Ghana movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has pointed out that the Ghanaian youth are developing a culture of protest.

During an interview with Bridget Otoo, he discussed the upcoming OccupyJulorbi house protest scheduled for December.

He emphasized that the youth are growing increasingly discontented with the current state of the country and are inclined to express their concerns through various organized forms of protest.

He said “It is always about pushing the boundaries for what we can do as young people in demanding difference.”

He provided further context, explaining that the initial three-day protest aimed to assess the youth’s ability to maintain their demand for advocacy.

He added that regardless of whoever is in power, the youth will always demand better.

“In respective of wins in 2024, they are going to find a different Ghanaian youth, and we have to be able to prepare the Ghanaian youth towards a different kind of engagement with the system to demand better and be more aggressive with the demands we are making of the system,” he said.

He emphasized that a one-month protest is not unreasonable, highlighting that the people of Hong Kong stayed on the streets for six months. He added that Ghanaians haven’t reached that level yet, but their approach is to progressively build towards such a point.

He further clarified that the 31-day protest doesn’t require all interested parties to be present for the entire period. He mentioned that a schedule would be released in November to determine when people would come out to protest during that period, but the organizers would be present for the full 31 days.

Democracy Hub, convenors of #FixTheCountry movement and #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests, have announced a return of the protest in December, 2023.

According to a statement issued by the organisers on Monday, October 8th, the month-long protest will begin on December 1st and end on December 31st.

The purpose of this month-long protest, “themed “#OccupyJulorbiHouse” and #JustResign, will call on the President of Ghana, to resign immediately or be impeached by Parliament. We demand the urgent prosecution of corrupt officials, including persons in the president’s family and inner circle who have contributed to what has been described by a former cabinet Minister as “a Friends, Family and Concubines Government,” organisers have said.
