“My son told me his wife always puts sleeping pills in his food”- Mohbad’s father testifies in court

The father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, Joseph Aloba, testified on Wednesday at a Lagos State coroner court, shedding light on his son’s relationship with fellow artist Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley.

He disclosed that his son had been residing with Naira Marley since December 2019.

This testimony is part of the coroner’s inquest aimed at investigating the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s tragic death at the age of 27. The talented musician passed away on September 12 and was laid to rest the following day.

The singer’s death had raised various controversies, prompting the Lagos State Government to initiate the coroner’s inquest, which commenced on October 13 at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court.

During his testimony, Mr. Aloba revealed that he and his son had lived together for 18 years. However, he was uncertain about the exact location of the residence where his son and Naira Marley cohabited. He mentioned that Mohbad moved out when he reached the age of consent to support Naira Marley in his music career.

Mr. Aloba recalled that he had last seen his son just three days before his tragic passing and had only seen a photo of his casket. His late son assured him that he could resolve his issues with Naira Marley.

Regarding the deceased’s belongings, Mr. Aloba revealed that his son’s landed properties were under the control of his mother-in-law. He also claimed that his daughter-in-law had at times mixed sleeping pills in his son’s food.

According to Mr. Aloba, Mohbad had confided in him about disputes over property held by his wife and her family.

He expressed concerns about his daughter-in-law’s fidelity, saying, “I don’t trust his wife. My son told me she always put sleeping pills in his noodles and went to another room to sleep with another artist signed by Naira Marley in the same house.”

Mr. Aloba also mentioned that Mohbad had attempted to reconcile him with his mother. He concluded by revealing that his son had gifted him a car after their reconciliation.

The coroner, Adedayo Shotobi, expressed condolences to Mr. Aloba for his son’s tragic death and assured him that justice would be served.

It’s worth noting that Naira Marley and a Lagos socialite named Balogun Eletu were remanded in police custody on October 4 by a Yaba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State in connection with Mohbad’s demise.

  • Reasons you should not use nylon sponges on your face

Reasons you should not use nylon sponges on your face

The facial skin is delicate and more sensitive compared to the skin on the rest of the body. Therefore, using a wire sponge or any abrasive material on your face can be extremely harmful.

Using a nylon sponge on your face is not recommended for several reasons:

    1. Skin Irritation: Nylon sponges can be abrasive and harsh on the delicate skin of the face. Scrubbing with a nylon sponge can lead to skin irritation, redness, and even micro-tears in the skin, making it more susceptible to infections and other issues.
    2. Breakouts: Scrubbing your face with a nylon sponge can disrupt the skin’s natural barrier, leading to increased oil production and, in turn, breakouts. It can also push bacteria and dirt deeper into the pores, causing more acne.
    3. Damage: The mechanical action of scrubbing with a nylon sponge can damage the skin’s surface. Over time, this can result in premature aging, including wrinkles and fine lines.
    4. Sensitivity: If you have sensitive skin, using a nylon sponge can exacerbate the issue. It can cause redness, itching, and discomfort.
    5. Uneven Skin Tone: Excessive scrubbing can lead to an uneven skin tone as it may remove the top layer of skin, revealing newer, more sensitive skin underneath.
    6. Skin Conditions: People with certain skin conditions like rosacea or eczema should avoid using nylon sponges on their faces, as it can worsen these conditions.

Instead of using a nylon sponge, it’s recommended to wash your face with a gentle, pH-balanced facial cleanser and your hands or a soft washcloth. Exfoliation can be a part of your skincare routine, but it should be done with gentle exfoliants specifically designed for the face, such as those containing microbeads, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs). Always follow your skincare routine with a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and protected. If you have specific concerns about your skin, consider consulting a dermatologist for personalized advice.

Iran seeks relations with military regime in Niger

Iran’s president, Ebrahim Raisi, said that his country is prepared to work together with Niger in areas that will bring economic benefits.

President Raisi shared his thoughts on Wednesday after meeting with Bakary Yaou Sangaré, the new foreign affairs minister of Niger who took office after a military takeover in July.

The Iranian president, Mr Raisi, praised Niger for wanting to be independent and resisting European control. He believes this shows that Africa is truly moving away from being controlled by other countries.

Iran is trying to get close to Niger, a country in Africa, because it wants to stop being isolated by other countries.

In September, President Raisi met with Olivia Rouamba, who is the foreign minister of Burkina Faso’s junta. In the meeting, he praised African countries for their strength against being controlled by other countries and for standing up against terrorism.

In July, he went to Kenya, Uganda and Zimbabwe, which was the first time an Iranian president visited Africa in over ten years.

Three Africans held captive by Hamas – Israel

Hamas is reportedly holding two Tanzanian individuals and one South African individual captive as stated by the Israeli government. This happened after the attacks in Israel on 7 October.

None of the three have been given a name.

The ambassador of Tanzania to Israel has said that two people from Tanzania have been captured, or taken hostage.

The BBC talked to the father of a Tanzanian person who went missing in Israel. This person’s name is Joshua Mollel and he was studying agriculture on a kibbutz that was attacked.

He said to the BBC that he still hasn’t heard any news about what happened to his son.

Earlier this week, he mentioned that they had not talked since October 5th – just two days before the attack. He also mentioned that the entire family was extremely worried.

“He said on Sunday that we are unable to eat or sleep. When I go to the market, people inquire about the reason behind my significant weight loss. ”

The people in charge in South Africa have not said anything about the report that someone from their country is one of the hostages.

Israel has stated that people from 25 different countries are currently being held by Hamas.

A total of 135 out of the 224 individuals being held are from Thailand. Thailand has the highest number, with 54 individuals.

They were captured when members of Hamas, which many countries consider a terrorist group, entered Israel from Gaza and killed around 1,400 individuals.

Israel has responded by attacking Gaza with airstrikes. The health ministry run by Hamas claims that these attacks have caused the deaths of nearly 6,500 people.

  • I am not a fan of late-night shows – KiDi

I am not a fan of late-night shows – KiDi

Ghanaian musician Dennis Nana Dwamena, widely known as KiDi, has voiced his concerns regarding the late timing of musical shows in the country, which differs from practices in other jurisdictions. He recounted an incident when he performed at an event in Europe and was surprised that it started exactly at the scheduled time.

KiDi pointed out that in Ghana, most shows extend into late hours due to the tardiness of fans and sometimes the artists themselves. During an interview with Berla Mundi on the Day show, he expressed his dissatisfaction with late-night shows and emphasized the need to address this issue in the creative arts industry.

“This is a collective effort that we all have to make. It’s not just about fans. There was one time I was doing a show, and I was like, It’s starting at nine. So I had it in mind that even if two people were there at nine, I wanted to perform although it’s scary, that’s what I wanted to do to help the situation.

“But when you get there, you see two people and they want to wait for everybody to come, and that delays the show. That’s why I said it’s a collective thing. We all have to chip in to make this work,” he said.

KiDi narrated an experience he had when he performed at an event outside the country.

He indicated that he was astonished when the time he was given to perform on stage was followed accordingly contrary to what happens in Ghana.

“One thing that I always tell people is the timing of shows. The first time I started performing outside, they told me that I was going on stage at eight. And I was so used to being in Ghana, when they say the show starts at eight, that means 01:00 a.m. So I was just relaxed and they were like, ‘Listen, the show starts at eight, and by 10:00 p.m. the venue is closing.’ I was doubting but they followed the schedule.

“That was one of my biggest cultural shocks. And that actually happens. And I love that because you get the crowd at their most energetic level. I don’t understand the concept of shows lasting into 04:00 a.m. And 03:00 a.m., I don’t like it,” he narrated.

  • Justification for Macron’s ship’s voyage to Gaza

Justification for Macron’s ship’s voyage to Gaza

President Emmanuel Macron‘s visit to Israel and its neighboring countries has led to a French navy ship being sent to the eastern Mediterranean.

The Tonnerre has often been wrongly called a “hospital-ship”.

Its main job in the area affected by conflict will be to provide help to the people of Gaza by delivering medical aid.

The Mistral class helicopter-carrier is a very important ship in the French navy.

The Tonnerre can bring many soldiers, tanks, and armored vehicles to a foreign beach. However, this time the mission will be very different.

The boat sailed away from its starting place, Toulon, on Wednesday. This is the same ship that France agreed to give to Russia 10 years ago, but then backed out of the deal because they were worried that it could be used to attack a country like Ukraine.

Besides being able to project its strength, the Tonnerre also has a small hospital unit. This unit has 69 beds and two operating rooms, which is similar to a hospital in a French town with 25,000 people.

Clearly, because of how much help Gaza needs, the impact of this will not be very significant, it will only be symbolic.

However, showing kindness and compassion towards others is significant. President Macron has received some criticism in France for favoring Israel too much. However, this decision allows for a slight adjustment towards prioritizing Arab interests.

Other practical considerations might also be relevant. The Tonnerre has advanced communication tools that could help France gather information on its own in the conflict.

And if things in the Middle East get worse and turn into a bigger war, it might be necessary to have ships ready to bring French citizens back home, especially in Lebanon where there are a lot of them. The Tonnerre doesn’t have a lot of weapons, so it needs two frigates, the Surcouf and the Alsace, to protect it in dangerous areas.

KFC closes its branches in Lesotho due to avian flu in South Africa

KFC is shutting down all its restaurants in Lesotho because there is a serious bird flu outbreak in nearby South Africa.

The government of Lesotho has stopped allowing any poultry to be brought into the country. This decision has greatly affected KFC’s ability to get chicken for their restaurants.

KFC says the chickens it uses are from farms in South Africa that are checked and confirmed to not have bird flu.

Lesotho is a country with many mountains and it is completely surrounded by South Africa.

South Africa has been working hard to control bird flu for several months and has killed more than seven million egg-laying hens – which is about 20-30% of all the hens in the country.

Last week, Mozambique killed around 45,000 sick chickens it had brought in from South Africa.

Namibia has also forbidden the bringing in of poultry from South Africa since September.

The outbreak has caused a lack of eggs and chicken meat in a few countries in southern Africa.

KFC Lesotho said they are working to find a solution and promised customers that their restaurants will reopen soon.

  • Dangers associated with taking sleeping tablets

Dangers associated with taking sleeping tablets

While sleeping tablets or sedative-hypnotic medications can be helpful in treating insomnia or sleep disturbances when used under a doctor’s guidance, they also have several disadvantages and potential drawbacks, including:

    1. Dependency: One of the most significant disadvantages of sleeping tablets is the potential for dependency. Prolonged use can lead to physical and psychological dependence, making it difficult to sleep without the medication.
    2. Tolerance: Over time, the body may become tolerant to the effects of the medication. This means that you may need higher doses to achieve the same level of sedation, which can increase the risk of dependence and side effects.
    3. Withdrawal Symptoms: When you stop taking sleeping tablets after regular use, you may experience withdrawal symptoms, such as rebound insomnia, anxiety, and agitation. This can make it challenging to stop using the medication.
    4. Side Effects: Common side effects of sleeping tablets include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and impaired coordination. These side effects can persist into the next day, affecting your ability to drive or operate machinery safely.
    5. Cognitive Impairment: Sleeping tablets can impair cognitive function, memory, and concentration. Prolonged use may affect your overall cognitive abilities.
    6. Drug Interactions: Sleeping tablets can interact with other medications, increasing the risk of adverse reactions. It’s essential to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you’re taking.
    7. Reduced REM Sleep: Some sleeping tablets can reduce the amount of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, which is crucial for mental and emotional well-being. Reduced REM sleep can lead to grogginess and reduced cognitive function during the day.
    8. Rebound Insomnia: After discontinuing the use of sleeping tablets, individuals may experience rebound insomnia, making their sleep problems worse than before they started taking the medication.
    9. Overdose: Overdosing on sleeping tablets can be life-threatening. This risk is especially high when individuals take higher doses to achieve the desired effect or combine them with other substances, such as alcohol.
    10. Masking Underlying Issues: While sleeping tablets may provide temporary relief from sleep problems, they do not address the underlying causes of insomnia, which may include stress, anxiety, or lifestyle factors.
    11. Short-Term Solution: Sleeping tablets are typically recommended for short-term use. They are not a long-term solution for sleep problems. Relying on medication can delay or prevent addressing the root causes of insomnia.
    12. Health Risks: Long-term use of sleeping tablets has been associated with health risks, including an increased risk of falls, fractures, and certain medical conditions.

It’s crucial to use sleeping tablets as a last resort and only under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Lifestyle and behavioral changes, along with cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia, are often recommended as more sustainable and effective alternatives for improving sleep quality.

Israel wants to get rid of Hamas but how?

The Israelis are extremely shocked and deeply affected by the killings that happened on October 7th.

They all pretty much agree on getting rid of Hamas as an enemy.

Another question to consider is how and when this is accomplished.

I believe more and more people are saying that since four hostages have already been released and Qataris are helping with negotiations, there is a possibility that around 50 more people might be set free. Because of this, they think Israel can take its time and not rush into any decisions.

Netanyahu, being in charge of a country during a war, is a very stressful job. He is dealing with more pressure because he is leading a country that is split and divided even before all of this happened.

So, even though Israelis are coming together to support their flag and agree that they need to remove Hamas, they are not fully supporting Benjamin Netanyahu.

Yes – he has a group of loyal supporters. However, there are some people who strongly believe that he is a big part of the issue – that he caused division in the country while trying to achieve his own goals related to the West Bank area and maintaining his position of power.

He has been accused of doing very bad things that could make him go to jail. His enemies believe that Netanyahu does everything to protect himself politically, and that everything leading up to the invasion is focused on him and Israel.

  • Russia most certainly targeted nuclear reactor in Ukraine – Zelensky

Russia most certainly targeted nuclear reactor in Ukraine – Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky suspects that a drone strike originating from Russia in western Ukraine had likely targeted a nuclear power facility.

On Wednesday, drones made in Iran attacked the area near a power plant in the west of Khmelnytsky region.

The attack hurt 20 people and caused only small damage, like broken windows.

The IAEA said that the plant is still working normally.

The Ukraine’s Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant experienced strong blasts, shared IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in a statement. The explosions show the risks to nuclear safety caused by the war, he said.

The Khmelnytsky plant has two machines that produce power. One machine is running, but the other machine has been turned off on purpose since August.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, there have been constant worries about the impact on a nuclear power plant.

Russian forces have taken control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, located in the eastern part of Ukraine, starting from March 2022.

Kyiv says that Russia bombed the factory and put it at risk of leaking radiation. They call this action “nuclear terror”. There haven’t been any serious accidents since the big invasion last year.

MrZelensky mentioned that the assault in the Khmelnytsky region highlights the need for more assistance from other countries to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.

He said that Russian drones and missiles have parts from Western companies and countries. The Khmelnytsky attack showed how risky it is when Russia can ignore international rules and restrictions

On Tuesday, the leader of Germany, Olaf Scholz, said that Germany will provide Ukraine with €1. 4bn ($15bn; £12bn) in financial help.

The new aid will have missile defense systems to protect Ukrainian infrastructure. This is because Russia might use cold weather and energy shortages as weapons against the civilian population.

On Thursday, Ukrainian intelligence said that a car carrying four people from Russia’s FSB security service exploded in Berdyansk, in the Zaporizhzhia region. According to news in Russia, someone was killed by a homemade bomb.

The bombing that was reported is the most recent in a series of attacks aimed at Russian officials and people who support them in Ukraine, which is currently under Russian control.

In September, Vladimir Malov, who was a member of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s political party in the Kherson region, died when his car was exploded in what seems to be a planned murder.

At least 50 people have died in DR Congo boat disaster

Officials in Equateur province in the Democratic Republic of Congo found an additional 10 bodies from a boat accident that occurred on Sunday. This brings the total number of people who died to 54.

The health and humanitarian affairs minister for the province, Luc-Didier Mbula, also mentioned that 267 people were saved.

Officials think that approximately 50 people are still unaccounted for, but they couldn’t find the list of passengers because the person who owned the boat also died.

The accident occurred early on Sunday when a wooden boat sank in the Lulanga River in the western part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This is the second very bad boat crash to happen in the country this month.

On 13 October, a boat made of wood sunk at the port of Mbandaka in the capital of Equateur. This caused 63 people to die and over 100 are still missing.

The Transport Minister, Mark Ekila, announced that there have been 88 boat accidents just this year. 80% of these accidents happened because the boats were either old wood boats or because they were sailing at night, which is against the rules.

The government said it is going to make stricter rules. This includes not letting old ships be used and keeping people separate from cargo and pets while they travel.

DR Congo is very big and has bad transportation, so most people have to travel in old and unsafe boats.

  • China receives historical treasures from Australia

China receives historical treasures from Australia

Australia has given back to Beijing three old things that were taken out of China illegally.

Someone in Canberra gave some very old things to officials from China. The things were a fossil of a dinosaur that is more than 100 million years old, and two small statues from a time called the Tang Dynasty.

Police at the Australian border took the items and sent them to authorities for investigation.

The transfer is happening before the Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese‘s visit to Beijing next month.

“On Wednesday, Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, said that today we have seen how two countries can work well together to bring back cultural objects to their original home. ” “Whether Australia has important cultural belongings or we have belongings abroad, they should be given back to us. ”

    These are the things:

A fossil of a long-necked reptile species called hyphalosaurus was found in north-eastern China. This reptile lived around 120 to 133 million years ago.
A statue from the Tang Dynasty that shows a person riding a horse and playing a musical instrument. These objects were put in burial sites to make sure that the person who died would have a safe trip to the life after death.
A Tang Dynasty statue made of golden bronze portraying the Buddhist god Avalokitesvara, which was probably used as an object for worship on an altar.
When asked by the BBC, a spokesperson from the Australian government said that the fossil was brought into the country in 2020, and the Tang Dynasty items were brought in the year after.

The things were taken out of China without permission and then brought to other countries before being brought to Australia. No one was punished because there was no proof that the Australian importers knew the objects had been taken out of China illegally, said the spokesperson.

During the handover ceremony, China received two other ancient items from the Ming and Qing dynasties. These items were given to China by the National Gallery of Australia and a private collector.

China’s ambassador to Australia, Xiao Qian, thanked the Australians at the ceremony and said he was very grateful. This was reported by the news agency Xinhua.

Chinese state media said that Australia and China have been working together for the last three years to help bring back cultural artifacts, artistic objects, and fossils that were illegally brought into the country.

In August, the national gallery of Australia gave back three old bronze statues to Cambodia. It happened because after ten years of investigating, they discovered that these sculptures were taken illegally.

In March, it was announced that four Aboriginal spears that British explorer Captain James Cook and his group took when they arrived in Australia in 1770 would be given back to their original owners.

China has been speaking up more and more in asking for the return of historical objects that were taken from them, such as things that the British Museum has at the moment.

We won’t attack any nation – PM of Ethiopia

The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, said that his country will not attack or invade any neighboring countries. This statement came after some people in the region were concerned about his previous comments about Ethiopia needing access to a sea.

Speaking to the nation in the capital city of Addis Ababa to commemorate Army Day on Thursday, Mr. Abiy stated that Ethiopia will never initiate an attack on any other nation.

He said our army has never started a fight before and now we won’t attack anyone.

Some people are worried that there might be an invasion because Ethiopia has been talking about the need to talk about certain issues. Ethiopia does not want to accomplish anything by invading. I want to make it very clear that we will not harm or force our own people to get what we want, the Prime Minister said.

It comes a few days after Mr. Abiy said that having access to the sea is very important for his country’s survival.

Ethiopia no longer has access to the sea since Eritrea separated in 1993. Now, it relies on Djibouti for more than 85% of the goods it brings into the country and sends out to other nations.

Ethiopia and Eritrea had a fight over their borders that lasted for two years from 1998 to 2000.

In 2018, the two countries became less tense when Mr Abiy and President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea made a peace agreement.

A former Taiwan air force colonel has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for operating a secret group that spied on Taiwan for China.

Liu Sheng-shu was found guilty of getting other officers who were currently working in the military to send military information to Beijing.

Five other officers, who were part of the navy and air force, were sent to prison for periods ranging from six months to 20 years because of their participation.

According to local news, Liu was asked to join during a work trip to China in 2013.

According to reports, he allegedly operated a group of people who provided information, and he paid them through fake businesses.

The prosecutors said that he received money for giving away information about the military, like how airplanes and warships work.

Besides being sentenced to jail, the authorities took away NT$16. 7m (£425,000; $514,000) that they said were earned illegally.

Liu and six other officers were accused in January by the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office‘s Kaohsiung branch. One person was found not guilty.

Some important people from Taiwan’s military have been accused of helping China’s intelligence agency.

In January, a former high-ranking military officer was declared guilty of receiving free meals and trips from a businessman from Hong Kong who was acting on behalf of Beijing.

CAR and Total-Centrafrique reach an agreement to resolve fuel issue

Officials in the Central African Republic has made a deal with Rochefort International, the owner of Total-Centrafrique, to solve the recent fuel shortage crisis in the country.

Total-Centrafrique’s customs operations were stopped because the government claimed it owed more than $3. 3 million in oil taxes. The closure of its gas stations for around two weeks created a problem with fuel availability. This caused long lines at the remaining open gas stations.

Energy Minister Bertrand Arthur Piri said “we talked about everything and agreed on everything”.

He said that Rochefort International will keep doing Total’s fuel import work and also talk to the Ministry of Finance about how to pay its taxes.

A person from the energy company said they were happy with the agreements they made with the government.

However, a taxi driver from the area informed the BBC that the lack of fuel availability forced them to resort to purchasing fuel from illegal sources.

Total-Centrafrique, a company that supplies fuel in the CAR, has been recently bought by Rochefort International.

The revised statement, signed and released by Sempe Mantse and Chairman of the Central Funeral Planning Committee, Nii Adote Otintor II, clarified that the closure would only be in effect on the 28th of October, 2023, and not during the previously announced period from the 26th to the 29th of October, 2023, or through to the 31st of October, 2023.

The week-long funeral rites of Naa Dedei Omaedru III began on October 23 and is expected to end on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

The Funeral Planning Committee in an earlier statement noted that due to the week-long arrangement for the funeral of the queenmother, “all funerals shall be on hold from October 15th to 30th October 2023”.

“There shall be neither any performance of traditional rites nor rituals leading to enstoolment, installation or induction into any traditional office”.

Opposition in Zimbabwe to boycott ‘criminal’ by-elections

Zimbabwe’s top opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, says his party won’t take part in upcoming elections to fill 15 parliamentary seats. He believes these elections are unlawful because the current members were removed from parliament in a questionable way.

The seats were empty because a man, who claimed to be the temporary leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party, announced that the MPs were not part of the party anymore.

As a result, there will be by-elections on 9 December because the parliamentary speaker said the seats were empty earlier this month.

Mr Chamisa said that he doesn’t agree with the removal of the lawmakers. He called Sengezo Tshabangu an imposter for claiming to be the party’s secretary-general.

During an interview on Wednesday, Mr. Chamisa stated that his party will not take part in the “unconstitutional” by-elections because he believes it would be a waste of time.

“He said that we don’t do any illegal activities. ”

A court will listen to a case about whether the Members of Parliament (MPs) can be removed from their positions on November 2nd.

  • South China Sea: US will protect the Philippines in event that China launches an attack – Biden

South China Sea: US will protect the Philippines in event that China launches an attack – Biden

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, said that if China tries to attack the Philippines in the disputed South China Sea, the US will protect them.

The remarks were made a few days after two crashes happened between ships from the Philippines and China in the disputed areas of the ocean.

Mr Biden strongly stated that he is fully committed to defending the Philippines and that this commitment is very strong.

Manila disagrees with China’s claims to the waters and has removed obstructions in the water and invited the media to film China’s unsafe actions at sea.

Mr Biden made a very strong statement about the South China Sea on Wednesday. This is his strongest statement so far since tensions between Beijing and Manila have been getting worse in the past few months.

I want to make it clear – I really want to make it clear: The United States’ promise to protect the Philippines is very strong. He said that the defense agreement between the United States and the Philippines is very strong and cannot be broken.

The Mutual Defense Treaty was signed in 1951. It makes the US and the Philippines promise to protect each other if there is an attack. The Philippines used to be a colony of the US.

“If someone attacks the airplanes, ships, or military of the Philippines, our agreement to help and protect each other will come into effect,” he said during his speech at the White House on Wednesday, while greeting the Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese.

On Sunday, the Philippines accused China of doing risky moves that caused a crash between a China coast guard ship and a Filipino supply boat. This incident happened in an area that belongs to the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone. In another incident, Manila said that a Chinese militia boat hit a Philippine coast guard vessel.

The Filipino boats were going towards an old navy warship that Manila had left at the Second Thomas Shoal to show that it is theirs.

The defense minister of the Philippines, Gilberto Teodoro Jr, said that the Chinese boats purposely hit the Philippine vessels. He also accused China of changing the story to benefit themselves.

Mr Biden agreed with these claims, stating that the Chinese ships had acted in a dangerous and unlawful manner during the collisions.
The Philippines is a crucial friend of the US because it is near two possibly dangerous areas in the Pacific – the South China Sea and Taiwan.

Ever since President Ferdinand Marcos Jr became the leader in June 2022 and brought back the Philippines’ alliance with the US, the Filipino government has been more forceful in challenging China’s actions in the South China Sea.

Mr Marcos has a different approach to foreign policy compared to his predecessor, Rodrigo Duterte. Duterte was criticized for not taking strong action against China’s aggressive behavior in the South China Sea.

Duterte said no to using Manila’s legal win against China in a global court, which stated that China’s large claims over most of the South China Sea are not valid.

David Hunter: Appeal against manslaughter ruling in Cyprus commences

A case has started where the prosecution is appealing the decision and punishment given to a man who was released from jail for murdering his very sick wife.

David Hunter, who is 76 years old, was blamed for killing his wife Janice at their house in Cyprus in 2021. However, he was found guilty of manslaughter instead of murder, and as a result, he was let out of prison.

Mr Hunter, who lives in Ashington, Northumberland, might be accused of planning to commit murder again.

The appeal hearing might be held in April or May.

Mr Hunter, from Ashington, Northumberland, said during his trial that he smothered his 74-year-old wife because she pleaded with him to do so. She was experiencing a unique type of blood cancer.
Three judges agreed with the defense’s argument that he had acted on an impulse because he loved his wife.

He was in jail for 19 months before being convicted of manslaughter, but he was not found guilty of premeditated murder.

The prosecution went to the Court of Appeal in Nicosia on Tuesday to challenge Mr. Hunter’s not guilty verdict for murder and his punishment for manslaughter.

Michael Polak, who is the director of Justice Abroad and representing Mr. Hunter, stated that the court has instructed the prosecution to submit their arguments within two months. The defense will then have two months to respond to these arguments.

Mr Polak said that after being in prison for over 19 months and going through a trial, David Hunter was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter. This led to his release from custody. At that moment, they believed that the legal process was finished for him.

“He said it can be really stressful for anyone, especially someone like David, to constantly worry about going back to prison for the rest of their life. ”

Mr Polak said that he was not happy with the decision to continue pursuing David, but his team would keep supporting him and keep fighting for him.

We have not been served, Ga Manye’s funeral will come on – Planning Committee assures

The organizers of the funeral service for the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, have announced their intention to proceed with the ceremony on Saturday, despite facing an injunction.

The funeral faced a setback when an injunction was issued against it by some concerned parties, restraining the organizers from holding the funeral for the next ten days. The plaintiffs in the case include Nuumo Emmanuel T. Antia We, Nii Addey Oba-Aasaa II, Shippi Antie I, Charles Nii Kotey Kotey, Asafoatse Nii Kotey Ga II, Michael Nii Ofei Danso, and Naa Yomofio, among others.

A member of the funeral planning committee and the Ga Adangbe Council President, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, asserted during an interview on Eyewitness News that the funeral would proceed as scheduled because they had not received the court documents. He argued that the organizers couldn’t be sued since they were tasked with arranging the funeral, and he maintained that the event would be held at the Ga Mantse Palace.

“We don’t know anything about the injunction. These days, lots of things happen on social media. There may be things going around on social media, but I don’t think that as of now anybody has been served. I’m a member of the funeral committee, I have not been served with anything. We haven’t seen anything, so we don’t even know the extent of that order. What is it about? Is the Ga Traditional Council named as a party to the defendants?”

If I give you work to do as a subcommittee or appoint you as an agent, and you have a problem, who do you sue? Is it me or the agent? Why is the Council out? The remains of the late queen’s mother is that a funeral? The injunction is clear that it’s about the body, you wait and see what happens. When they serve us, we will deal with it,” he said.

Nii Ayikoi Otoo highlighted the number of traditional leaders and dignitaries who will be in attendance to commiserate with the Ga Traditional Council.

“Saturday is the funeral day. We will have the burial service from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Afterwards, we will hand over the coffin to the Asafoatsemei to parade through the principal streets. And in the evening, we will have a private burial. These days, even those who are not royals are given private burials. How much more the late queen who was a royal?”

“It will be a grand funeral. We have invited all the important chiefs of Ghana: the Asantene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Akyem, Kwahu, Yendi Yaa Naa, and Bolga Naa Ba. I mean every important paramount chief that you can think of. And they have all pledged that they will be here in person. The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will also be here, Ministers of State. It’s going to be huge. The funeral will happen at the Ga Mantse’s Palace,” he emphasized.

He urged the residents and businesses in the Central Business District of the Greater Accra Region to honor the funeral day by closing their shops, schools, and offices. Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, passed away in December 2022, and a book of condolences was signed and opened by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on June 19, 2023.

We can’t organize AfroNation because we lack the finances- Baba Sadiq

The CEO of 3Media Networks, Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, has clarified the status of the AfroNation music festival. He affirmed that AfroNation will not be coming back but relocating to Nigeria.

He also mentioned that the possibility of a return to Ghana in the future depends on changing circumstances. Baba Sadiq emphasized the limited market size in Ghana and its inability to financially sustain the AfroNation festival experience.

Additionally, he noted that external sources often influence event locations due to funding considerations.

“The size of our market is small. Our market alone from within the market can’t fund the sort of experiences that needs to be here.

“You can’t find the money from here to sometimes look outside and when you’re fetching it from outside they determine where and where you should be at any point in time,” he said.

Baba Sadiq also suggested that in order to maintain Ghana’s status as a prime holiday destination in December, government should invest in initiatives including financial support, tax rebates, or even creating a fund to aid well-organized festivals.

“We need to put our money where our mouth is. If as a state or collectively as a country we’re still interested in keeping our positioning as a major holiday-maker spot in December, then there has to be a certain level of investment from the state.

“Probably the state would have to begin funding these initiatives or creating a relief of sorts, like tax rebates and stuff.

“Tax rebates could be won, but it could float a fund, for instance, I mean through the banks where some of these festivals that are run properly and organized well could access funding to be able to put it together,” he said.

Baba Sadiq’s statements follow the relocation of the yearly music festival, AfroNation, to Nigeria.

AfroNation was initially launched in Ghana in 2019, coinciding with the Year of Return initiative and achieved significant international success. However, the 2022 edition was unexpectedly cut short without a clear explanation.

As Israeli soldiers prepare for combat by watching airstrikes and artillery attacks in Gaza, and checking their personal weapons, communications, and gear, it’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t secretly question if this is a trap.

Hamas, with support from Tehran, would have likely prepared for a strong Israeli attack on the ground after their frightening infiltration into Israel.

It is likely that Hamas wanted to make sure that Israel would react strongly, even if it meant hurting many innocent people in Gaza.

What Israel does next will decide what happens in the future, maybe for a long time. It all boils down to Gaza.

Hamas has built many tunnels in the Strip. It will have placed traps in the land above the surface, and it will have strategies to confront the IDF with different tactics like suicide bombers and capturing soldiers.

US military leaders and other government officials have been telling Israel about their experiences with big battles fought in cities.

In 2017, Iraq’s military, helped by American, British, and other special forces, and with constant air attacks, took nine months to remove ISIS from Mosul.

Almost all the people in the northern Iraqi city left, but the fighting was happening in each individual house. ISIS used hidden tunnels to surprise and attack the soldiers fighting to capture Mosul, which was a difficult and violent battle.

The bomb-making abilities of Hezbollah, a militant group from Lebanon that is closely connected to Hamas, have spread widely throughout the Middle East. They will find out that Hezbollah has improved their ability to destroy armored vehicles since Israel last fought in Lebanon in 2006. Israel was surprised by how advanced the militia’s tactics were back then.

Hamas now has weapons that can shoot down airplanes – Israel’s Apache helicopters, which help soldiers on the ground, could be easily targeted by one person using a surface to air missile.

Hamas probably has some people who are ready to film and promote videos of their attacks on Israeli soldiers. Films that show violence and bravery can make angry young men even more upset and extreme in their ideas. ISIS showed us that.

It’s likely that Hamas would have intended for a lot of destruction to happen in Gaza. That might be the goal of the second phase following the October 7 attacks.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that if there are any mistakes in carrying out genocide and forced displacement, it could have serious and bad effects in the region and for the people causing the conflict.

He is not trying to analyze, he is threatening.

The White House is aware of this. A plan to harm Israel could have serious and harmful effects, potentially leading to a conflict between different cultures, similar to what happened after 9/11.

President Joe Biden will be worried about the safety and well-being of American hostages in Gaza, as well as the more than 200 other people who are being held captive by Hamas and other groups in that area.

Since the weekend, CNN’s sources in Washington have been worried about the possibility of a big Israeli ground operation that could cause a major fire that spreads uncontrollably, similar to what happened in Iraq after the US-led invasion to remove Saddam Hussein from power.

Benjamin Netanyahu, who is the prime minister of Israel, has been connecting Hamas and the Islamic State for a long time. He thinks that the Israel-Hamas conflict is a fight between different civilizations.

Hamas are being compared to the Nazis. He said that we need to fight against them just like how the world fought against the Nazis and ISIS together.

Hamas recently committed horrible acts of violence, but they are not the same as ISIS. Hamas has forcefully and actively tried to eliminate ISIS members in Gaza who followed a type of political Islam that Hamas strongly disagreed with.

Hamas wants to create a Palestinian country that follows the teachings of Islam. However, it does not claim or want to be a caliphate. Most importantly, it has never carried out any attacks in countries other than Israel and the Palestinian territories. Additionally, it has not used the internet to spread radical beliefs internationally.

Hamas wants to completely destroy the Jewish state.

“The fight against terror groups should be relentless,” said French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday in Israel.

However, he mentioned a warning that is based on both practical politics and morals: We should try to prevent the West from being dragged into a war that may be considered as a battle against Islam once again.

He said that the “struggle” should be tough, but fair.

This is a picture taken by a satellite and owned by Maxar Technologies in the year 2023.

Around 1,400 people died in the attacks carried out by Hamas inside Israel. More than 5,700 people have died in Gaza, as reported by Palestinian health officials. The Israel military is trying to reduce the number of innocent people getting hurt or killed.

The government has put a lot of restrictions on the 2. 3According to the UN, around 1. 4 million people have been forced to leave their homes within a small area of land.

If Israel starts a ground operation, the number of casualties will definitely increase. On each side.

People in many countries have been protesting against Israel because they think that Israel has caused a lot of damage to Gaza. If soldiers invade the land, it will be much worse – and the protests will be louder.

At the same time as Israel, the countries who want to destroy Israel have gathered in Lebanon.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah had a meeting with Hamas deputy head Saleh Al-Arouri and Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s secretary-general Ziad Al-Nakhla on Wednesday.

Hezbollah said in a statement that they assessed what the parties in the resistance axis need to do to achieve a real victory for the resistance in Gaza and Palestine and to stop the cruel aggression against their people.

We can be certain that members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps Quds Brigade, which is Tehran’s main international military and intelligence group, were present. The Quds brigade has been teaching, giving money to, and showing the way to all three groups for a long time.

They will be trying to take advantage of Israel’s next actions in Gaza as their own second part of the October 7 attacks.

Hezbollah has been causing conflicts with Israel along the border of southern Lebanon. This is diverting the attention of Israeli forces away from just focusing on Gaza. The US has accused Iran of using Iraqi groups to attack American logistic bases in Baghdad. The situation in Yemen has been tense because the Houthis, who are supported by Iran, tried to launch missiles at Israel. However, the United States successfully stopped these missile attacks.

Many Americans, Europeans, and Australians are being told to leave Middle Eastern countries near Israel.

John Kirby, the person who speaks for the US National Security Council, said on Monday that the government is carefully monitoring any indications that groups supported by Iran might be increasing their attacks on US military forces in the Middle East.

Iran could be attempting to divert the attention of the United States from Israel, but it could also be provoking the US to engage in more disagreement.

The US is working to prevent that conflict. CNN reported that Biden is urging people to be careful when talking to Israel’s Prime Minister. He has made the private discussions stronger by seeking advice from the public.

He said that when you see what has happened to mothers, fathers, grandparents, sons, daughters, children, and even babies, it’s natural to demand justice. But he warned that while you feel angry, don’t let it take over you completely. After the 9/11 attacks, we were very angry in the United States. We saw fairness and received fairness, but we also made errors.

The mistakes caused the US-led invasion of Iraq, which made many people think that Islam was being attacked by the Western countries. This led to chaos in the Middle East and the creation of the Islamic State or Caliphate, along with terror attacks happening all over the world.

When President Biden tells the Israeli government not to make the same mistakes as it did in Afghanistan, he knows what he’s talking about because he has been through it himself. Karin von Hippel, who used to give advice to the US military on fighting terrorism, said that after 9/11, the US reacted too strongly and lost a lot of the goodwill that was initially there. This happened because of decisions like going to war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

That is what most people believe.

Martin Sherman, who leads the Israel Institute for Strategic Studies and has always supported a stricter approach towards neighboring countries that pose a threat to Israel, holds a different opinion.

He thinks Israel should enter Gaza forcefully.

“He said that he doesn’t believe Arabs will ever fully accept Israel. He thinks Israel should aim to be feared and perhaps reluctantly accepted. ”

The soldiers of the IDF are getting ready at their meeting points, preparing for a possibly big fight in Gaza. They might also think about whether their sons might have to go back there in the future and become tough warriors.

  • Japan court declares requiring transgender sterilisation ‘unconstitutional’

Japan court declares requiring transgender sterilisation ‘unconstitutional’

Japan’s highest court has declared that a rule which forced transgender individuals to undergo sterilization before obtaining legal recognition is against the constitution. This ruling is considered a significant achievement for Japan’s LGBTQ community after many years of fighting for their rights.

Under a law made 20 years ago, transgender people who want to change their official documents must have been diagnosed with a condition called “gender identity disorder. ” They must also be at least 18 years old, not married, and not have any children under the age of 18.

They also need to have private parts that look like the opposite sex and cannot have children. This means that they had to go through surgery and sterilization.

The law has been criticized by rights groups for a while. In the past, attempts to challenge it in court were not successful. However, in this case, a transgender woman wanted to change her legal gender from male to female without having surgery and she is challenging the law.

The person who brought the lawsuit claimed that taking hormones for a long time had already affected her ability to have children, according to NHK.

Before going to the Supreme Court, a lower court and a higher court did not accept her case. On Monday, the court decided she won the case because the rule making sterilization necessary broke the law of the country.

The limit on keeping people safe from physical harm is not needed anymore and is now more severe. So, the court said that the rule is not needed or fair.

The text means that reproductive rights are seen as very important human rights according to the constitution. The decision said that it is unkind that they have to go through a procedure to remove their ability to have babies without wanting to, just so that they can legally be the gender they identify as.

According to NHK, the recent decision made by the Supreme Court of Japan is significant because it is only the 12th time since World War II that the court has declared a law as unconstitutional. This means that the parliament of Japan now needs to reconsider the law.

But, that doesn’t mean the entire law is being altered – just the part that says people need to be sterilized.

The country’s highest court decided not to make a final decision on whether transgender people should have reproductive organs that look like the opposite gender’s. They believe it is allowed by the constitution. According to a ruling on Monday, the part of the case will be sent back to a lower court to think about it. The ruling also said that the rule does not directly force transgender people to have surgery.

Some people in the LGBTQ community were happy and celebrated the ruling, but there were also worries about the need for more surgeries and how society might react.

During a press conference, the lawyer for the person who filed the lawsuit, Kazuyuki Minami, shared a statement from that person. The statement expressed their immense surprise due to the unexpected judgment.

“I am sad that the Grand Chamber of Justice did not approve my gender change and that the case has been delayed,” she said in the statement. However, she also said, “I am happy that this case will lead to a positive result. ”

The lawyer, Minami, said that not many judgments say that current laws are against the constitution, so this ruling is very important. But he also said it’s frustrating that the plaintiff didn’t get the outcome they wanted.

Ken Suzuki, a law professor who focuses on LGBTQ matters at Meijin University in Japan, said that the court’s decision was incomplete. He mentioned that the LGBTQ community is still waiting for the lower court to determine if they will need additional surgeries to have genitals that look like those of the opposite gender.

“However, it brings them optimism,” he said, describing it as a “groundbreaking decision. ” “A lot of people can see that the judges have shown a strong interest in the subject. ”

The LGBT Law Coalition, a group that supports laws for people with sexual orientation and gender identity difficulties, praised the decision. They also expressed their hope that the Supreme Court would make a fair decision on the other requirements for transgender individuals.

The organization is really sorry about the recent unfair treatment of transgender people. This includes many transgender people feeling anxious and scared when they try to use the bathroom they feel comfortable in.

During the summer, the Supreme Court made a decision against a government agency. This agency had stopped a transgender employee from using the women’s bathroom. It was the first time the court addressed the rights of sexual minorities at work.

Many people in Japan have traditional beliefs about LGBTQ issues. Although some polls indicate a change in attitudes, activists argue that discrimination is still common. For example, Japan is the only country in the Group of Seven (G7) that does not have laws to protect same-sex unions.

This spring, the government faced more and more pressure to create a law that supports the LGBTQ community. This was because they were going to host the G7 leaders’ summit in May. However, there were disagreements about the bill, so it was only given to parliament the day before the summit started.

At the end, the approved bill was not as strong as activists wanted. It didn’t include any guarantees for human rights and some people worry that it may indirectly support discrimination.

KNUST Lecturer advises teachers to leave the country for greener pastures

A senior Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Akwasi Amakye Boateng, has advised Ghanaian teachers to consider seeking better working conditions abroad. He believes that Ghana’s teachers have often been neglected in terms of their welfare by successive governments.

In an interview with Angel FM, he said “Years ago, people said the reward for a teachers was in heaven, but I tell you, their reward is in the western world. Other countries need the service of the Ghanaian teacher badly. They are now hard to find so if you are a teacher don’t stay here and die.

“The youth among us shouldn’t stay here to be disgraced, your reward is in the western world”, he added.

Dr. Amakye Boateng emphasized that teachers deserve better treatment within their own country, receiving proper compensation for their work. He pointed out that many teachers in Ghana are struggling to make ends meet and attributed this situation, in part, to the policies of President Akufo-Addo. This has led to a significant loss of teachers in the country in recent years.

  • UN claims that fuel shortages will cause relief operations in Gaza to stop in day

UN claims that fuel shortages will cause relief operations in Gaza to stop in day

The main United Nations agency in Gaza says it will stop helping people within a day if they don’t receive fuel. This would be very bad for civilians who depend on this help.

Though some help has gotten to Gaza from Egypt, it only consisted of food, water, and medicine, not fuel. Israel has said no to letting fuel go into Gaza because they believe that the Hamas attack on October 7th was very violent. They think that the fuel would only be used by the group to help them fight against Israel.

If the UNRWA runs out of fuel, it might only be able to go on for one day. We have already said that if we run out of fuel tonight or tomorrow, we, as the biggest UN group in Gaza, will not be able to continue working. The organization originally mentioned that it would have to stop operations on Wednesday evening.

The UN officials said that the current supplies are not enough for the 2 million Palestinians living in Gaza. They also said that the supplies won’t be of much help if there is no fuel to collect and distribute the aid.

The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, said that if there is no fuel, it will be impossible to bring aid, hospitals won’t be able to operate, and water won’t be clean or available.

Doctors in very busy hospitals that are close to closing down have been saying over and over again that if we don’t bring fuel, people injured in bombings and babies needing oxygen will die.

The UN officials are concerned about the recent Israeli airstrikes in Gaza that killed over 700 people in just one day. This is the highest number of deaths in a single day since Israel started targeting Hamas in Gaza two and a half weeks ago. This information was reported by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah.

According to Juliette Touma, the UNRWA is providing shelter for around 600,000 individuals in Gaza. “Touma said, UNRWA is their only source of support and help. ”

The director of UNRWA in Gaza, Tom White, said to CNN that aid workers would have to choose which parts of vital aid they can and cannot give to people.

“Do we give fuel to desalination plants to make drinking water. Can we give fuel to hospitals. Can we give the necessary fuel for making bread that is feeding people in Gaza. ” he asked

UNRWA was created after the 1948 Arab-Israeli War to help Palestinians who were forced to leave their homes and become refugees. They provide important help and support to these people. It started in 1950 and has been renewed many times.

In addition to helping people in need, UNRWA also offers education to around 300,000 students in Gaza. These numbers are from the 2021/22 school year. Many people in Gaza have had to leave their homes because of fighting. They are now finding shelter in schools.

However, White expressed concern that if there is not enough fuel, the agency might have to reduce or stop its activities. This is happening even though some aid is starting to come in through the Rafah crossing. White did not say when the process would start, but emphasized that the agency needs fuel to work. “He said that even if there are convoys in Gaza, we won’t have the fuel in our trucks to gather or deliver that help. ”

“We have to find a way to solve the fuel problem, or else our effort to provide aid will be forced to stop,” White informed CNN.

The worsening health situation in Gaza, with dirty water and poor sanitation, is causing concern that a health crisis may happen. This crisis could lead to people dying from dehydration because the water system is failing and there are ongoing bombings.

Only 8 out of the planned 20 aid trucks were able to go to Gaza as scheduled on Tuesday, according to UNRWA. There is no clear explanation as to why the other 12 trucks couldn’t go through the Rafah crossing.

The World Health Organization said on Tuesday that six hospitals in Gaza had to shut down because they didn’t have enough fuel. This happened because of the Israeli siege that started two weeks ago.

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that there are 1,000 patients who rely on dialysis and 130 premature babies, along with other vulnerable patients, who need a constant supply of electricity to stay alive. These people are at risk of death or health issues if the electricity supply is not stable.

The Israeli army, known as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), has decided that they will not allow any fuel to enter Gaza. They believe that Hamas, a group in control of Gaza, would use the fuel for their own needs, like running their operations and launching rockets.

Israel has argued that there are no problems with lack of fuel in Gaza. In response to UNRWA’s message on X about limited supplies, the IDF shared a picture taken from above showing fuel tanks in Gaza. They said that these tanks contained over 500,000 liters of fuel. CNN cannot confirm the statement made by the IDF.

Israel’s leaders have promised to completely eliminate Hamas as a response to the deadly attacks and kidnappings they carried out on October 7. During these events, approximately 1,400 people, mostly innocent civilians, lost their lives and over 200 individuals were taken as hostages.

After the attack, Israel started continuously bombing Gaza from the air. According to Hamas-controlled health authorities in Gaza and the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah, this has led to the death of over 6,400 individuals and has injured an additional 17,000.

Palestinian officials said that more than 700 people were killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours. The ministry said that there were 305 children, 173 women, and 78 old people who died.

Around two million individuals, including many children, live in the small coastal area of Gaza, which spans 140 square miles.

Al Jazeera reported that the leader of their team in Gaza, Wael Al-Dahdouh, tragically lost his wife, son, and daughter in an attack by Israeli airstrikes. The explosion happened at a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the middle of Gaza Strip where a family was staying because they had to leave their own home.

CNN cannot say for sure where the explosion at the house came from, and Al Jazeera did not provide proof that it was caused by an Israeli attack. CNN has asked the IDF for a response, but they haven’t given an answer yet.

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden said that killing innocent people is a consequence of fighting wars and asked Israel to try their best to prevent civilian deaths.

“I believe that innocent people have died, and it is something that happens when you are fighting a war,” Biden stated in a press conference held in the Rose Garden on Wednesday.

Israel needs to be very cautious and make sure that they are targeting the people who are causing conflict with them, instead of innocent civilians. “They don’t want that to happen because it goes against what they want. ”

Biden also mentioned that he did not trust the numbers of civilians who died that were given by the health ministry in Gaza controlled by Hamas. “I don’t believe that the Palestinians are being honest about the number of people who are killed,” he said.

Right now, there is an argument happening between Israel and the UN. The Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, asked for a temporary stop to the fighting and expressed worry about the clear breaking of the rules meant to protect people in Gaza.

Guterres criticized Hamas’ terrifying and unprecedented terrorist attack on October 7th. However, he believes that this attack should not lead to punishing all Palestinians together.

“It is crucial to understand that the attacks by Hamas did not happen without any context,” Guterres mentioned during his speech to the UN Security Council on Tuesday.

Israeli officials were very angry and upset by what he said. The ambassador of Israel to the United Nations, GIlad Erdan, said that Guterres is not suitable to be the leader of the UN and asked him to resign right away.

Almost three weeks have passed since the fighting started, but the Security Council of the United Nations cannot agree on what to do about the crisis. On Wednesday, two different proposals about the issue were introduced by the US and Russia. However, none of them were approved.

The resolution from the US suggested having breaks to help people in Gaza, instead of completely stopping the fighting, so that essential assistance can be provided to the civilians. The United States stopped a proposal from Brazil to take a break for humanitarian reasons.

The US disagreed with demands for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. A spokesperson from the National Security Council named John Kirby told CNN that Hamas must let go of the hostages they have in Gaza before a ceasefire can happen.

According to CNN, negotiations are happening to free a lot of people who are being held by Hamas in Gaza. However, the talks are difficult because of various reasons.

The United States, Israel, Qatar, Egypt, and Hamas are currently discussing things together. Four people who were being held against their will – two from America and two from Israel – have been released up to this point. But the current goal is to make an agreement for a larger number of hostages to be set free all at the same time.

Israel has not yet entered Gaza by land, and the US has asked Israel to wait longer in order to free more people held captive by Hamas.

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen stated that Israel’s goal is to bring the hostages back to their homeland, while speaking outside the UN on Tuesday.

Cohen said that there are babies, twins, and holocaust survivors who are being kept captive. Our mission is to rescue and bring them back home.

American military advisers have told Israelis to not launch a full-scale attack on Gaza and to stay away from the kind of brutal city fighting that the US experienced in Iraq. The goal is to prevent the Israelis from getting stuck in bloody, building-to-building combat.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seemed to be telling soldiers on Tuesday that a ground attack was still planned, saying, “we are about to enter the next phase, it is about to happen. ”

In a TV speech on Wednesday, Netanyahu talked for the first time since the October 7 attack about his own involvement in the security failure.

“He said that this will occur after the war. ” “As the leader of the country, it is my duty to protect the future of our nation. Right now, I need to guide our country and its people to achieve a decisive victory over our enemies. ”

  • Do you want Mahama to make you his running mate? – Allotey Jacobs quizzes Justice Atuguba

Do you want Mahama to make you his running mate? – Allotey Jacobs quizzes Justice Atuguba

The former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has raised questions about the intentions behind the recent criticism of the government by former Supreme Court judge, Justice William Atuguba

Allotey Jacobs wonders if the former judge’s outspoken remarks are a means to gain the attention of the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, in hopes of securing the position of his running mate.

“He carved a niche for himself and now that you have gone on retirement, you are wading back into controversy.

“As a former Supreme Court judge, I expect that behind closed doors you and your colleague members also on retirement can meet, I don’t know whether they have an association or organisation where he can point out that this was not done right and that it should have been done another way.

“But now that he has come out, I am compelled to ask if he wants to be a running mate to the leading opposition flagbearer,” Allotey asked.

He continued: “Because now it looks like people are outdoing each other in order to be chosen by the flagbearer as his running mate. This is very controversial. You don’t come out to make these statements.

“You can make it at a lecture to some students so that it becomes speculative but not to come out straight on the issue. So I am worried of the things coming from the academia of late.

“People we respect in this country, people we hold higher in this country are becoming serial callers,” he stated during a discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo.

In a public lecture at the University of Ghana on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Justice Atuguba raised important issues regarding the administration, the judicial system, and the administration of justice.

“Protecting Ghana’s Democracy: The Role of the Judiciary” was the theme of the lecture.

Accra schools won’t be shut down over Ga Manye’s funeral – GES

The Greater Accra Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that schools will operate as scheduled on Thursday and Friday in the region. This decision comes after a revision to the previous announcement of shop, office, and school closures during the funeral ceremonies for the late Ga Manye Naa Dede Omardru III.

The revised decision, made on Tuesday, limits the closure of shops, schools, and offices to only Saturday. The GES has declared the initial decision by the Ga Traditional Council as null and void in a statement.

CJ turns down OSP’s plea to have Justice Twum removed from the Cecilia Dapaah case

The Chief Justice of Ghana, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has rejected a request from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to remove Justice Edward Twum from the Cecilia Dapaah case.

The OSP had filed a petition alleging bias against Justice Twum and requested his recusal from all cases involving Cecilia Dapaah. However, the Chief Justice dismissed the petition.

The OSP disclosed this decision in a letter from the Judicial Secretary. The OSP believed that Justice Twum displayed prejudice against the OSP and the Special Prosecutor, prompting the request for his recusal.

During the last adjourned date, lawyers representing Ms. Dapaah requested a hearing on the motion for the confirmation of the freezing and seizure order filed by the OSP.

According to reports, the OSP had withdrawn its request for Justice Twum’s recusal, and Justice Twum indicated that he had instructions to continue hearing the cases due to the withdrawal.

However, prosecutors for the OSP contested the judge’s assertion, insisting that the recusal request had not been withdrawn.

They also informed the court about the filing of a certiorari application and a stay of proceedings against the judge’s ruling not to hear a supplementary affidavit by the OSP containing fresh facts and evidence.

As a result, the court adjourned all cases involving Ms. Dapaah by the OSP indefinitely, pending further directives from the Chief Justice.
