Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has expressed his concerns about favoritism within the party and its potential negative effects as the November 4 delegates’ congress approaches.
He emphasized the need for a fair and level playing field, highlighting how it can promote party unity and prepare the NPP for the upcoming election against the NDC.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on October 25, 2023, Dr. Afriyie Akoto underscored that orchestrating the November 4 Congress to benefit one candidate might have adverse consequences.
“I am prepared to give the benefit of the doubt and hope that everything will be alright because the implication of all this is the unity of the people.
“If we are not seen to be having a level playing field after 4th November, it is going to be very difficult to unite the party against the NDC, and for me, that is my worry,” myjoyonline.com quoted him to have said.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto, in response to Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the party, acknowledged the reasons cited for his departure. He noted that, in contrast to Kyerematen’s approach, he believes that corrective measures can be implemented under the leadership of Mike Ocquaye, who serves as the chairman of the presidential election committee.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto expressed concern about the public endorsements of one candidate by government appointees, parliamentarians, and party managers, which contradicts established guidelines.
“Of course, I don’t manage information the way he has done and I still believe that with a person like Mike Ocqyaye in charge, things can be corrected.
“But we have rules and regulations which say that if you are a party official you don’t come out to say that you are supporting this person or that person but look at what is happening.
“The whole government, the whole parliament, the whole party, most of the party managers, and so on have come out openly to say that they support one person and it goes against the rules.

The Ghanaian music producer and CEO of Highly Spiritual Record Label, Kaywa has urged his fellow Christians to adhere to Jesus Christ’s commandment to love one another and avoid passing judgment on others.
During an interview with Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime’s Celeb Showbiz, Kaywa, who is also an ordained minister, underlined the significance of not adopting a judgmental approach. He emphasized that casting judgment on others is inconsistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ and should be avoided.

Rescue workers from Germany have decided to stop looking for four crew members who are lost from a British ship that sank in the North Sea on Tuesday morning.
The Verity crashed into a bigger boat called the Bahamian Polesie near the German shore.
The rescue service said they stopped looking for survivors on Tuesday night and won’t start again.
They found another person’s body in the water, about 22km (13 miles) southwest of Heligoland. Heligoland is a group of islands that belongs to the state of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany.
The Verity ship was traveling to the UK, carrying steel from a city called Bremen in Germany to a place called Immingham in Lincolnshire. The collision happened around 5:00 AM on Tuesday between the Verity ship and another ship called Polesie. The Polesie ship had departed from Hamburg in Germany and was heading to La Coruña in Spain.
No one on the Polesie ship got injured. We don’t know yet why the crash happened.
Two boats and a helicopter from Germany helped in the search, according to the rescue service.
Rescue divers tried to find any signs of life in the wreck, but they had a hard time because of challenging conditions.
The German Central Command for Maritime Emergencies said that the situation around the wreck was very challenging. The visibility was only one to two meters, and the strong currents made it difficult for the rescue team to carry out their work. Eventually, the rescue efforts had to be stopped. Passengers were told at about 5:30 AM local time that the ship was assisting in the search. The company told ITV that the Iona had done what it was supposed to according to “international and moral law”.
The Iona ship, which started its trip from Southampton on Saturday and was going to Hamburg, Rotterdam, and Bruges, was allowed to continue its journey.

A soldier from Kenya who was part of a group of soldiers in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo was killed when rebels unexpectedly attacked them.
The spokesperson of DR Congo, Patrick Muyaya, informed the BBC that a soldier died on Tuesday in a fight between the regional forces and M23 rebels in the Kibumba area.
The Kenyan authorities did not comment right away.
This is the first time a Kenyan soldier has died since they joined the military group last year.
The army in the Democratic Republic of Congo expressed their disapproval of the killing and said that the M23 group is responsible for it.

US President Joe Biden gave Mr Ejeta a medal because of his excellent work in studying plant genetics.
Mr Ejeta is known as one of the best plant scientists in the world.
He focuses on studying sorghum, which is a common food source in Africa.
In 2009, Mr. Ejeta received a special award called the World Food Prize for creating a type of sorghum plant that is able to survive when there isn’t much water and can also fight off a harmful weed called Striga that often causes problems for farmers in Africa.
Sorghum is the fifth most important type of grain crop in the world, ranked after maize, wheat, rice, and barley.
It is also the second most important grain in Africa and many countries in Africa consider it a staple food, especially in areas where there is often not enough water.
Mr Ejeta grew up in a small house made of thatched materials in a village in central Ethiopia, which was not too far from the capital city of Addis Ababa.
But, he could only go to school sometimes because it was far away. He had to travel 20km (12 miles) to another town to go to class and he would come back home on weekends.
His difficult childhood, where he often went hungry and didn’t have enough food, has greatly impacted his scientific research throughout the years. This has motivated him to work towards improving the availability of food for everyone.
He talked about feeling hungry when he was a kid during an interview with the BBC.
When I went to a school far from my home, I always felt hungry. Actually, when I think back to elementary school, there were only a few days where I actually ate breakfast.
He said that going to school in the morning without eating breakfast is difficult. So I often feel hungry.
The president of Purdue University in Indiana, where Mr. Ejeta works as a professor and leads global food security programs, praised Mr. Ejeta for his determination and called him an influential geneticist.
“Our university is very proud and happy to receive another important and well-deserved award,” said Mung Chiang, the president of Purdue University.
Mr Ejeta, who is a citizen of the United States, was one of nine top scientists from the US who received an award at the White House from President Biden on Tuesday.

India’s embassy in Ottawa has announced that they will start offering visas to Canadians again. This comes after the visa services were stopped during a big argument between the two countries in September.
India said that the reason for the move was because there were security threats that were causing problems at their Canadian missions.
However, the suspension happened during a major disagreement regarding the assassination of a Sikh separatist within Canada.
Ottawa said India is responsible for the murder, but India says this is ridiculous.
On Wednesday, officials announced that they will start giving out some visas again. This decision came after they checked the security situation at their embassies and after considering recent actions taken by Canada (which they did not mention specifically).
It is being said that services will start again on Thursday. These services will include entry visas, as well as visas for business, medical, and conferences.

Israel is very upset about what the UN secretary general said about the Gaza war during the Security Council meeting.

Workers at a mine in South Africa have started coming back up to the surface after being trapped underground for three days. The police are calling it a situation where the workers were held as hostages.
On Wednesday, the police said that more than 500 miners at the Gold One mine were held hostage by armed people who had weapons like clubs and mining tools.
The workers were stuck in a situation where two groups disagreed with each other.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said that some troublemakers had forcefully trapped its members, not letting them go.
But the rival union called Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) said it did not trap workers at the mine that is close to Johannesburg. Amcu said that the miners were there on their own accord and were doing a peaceful protest by sitting in.
Over 100 workers came out of the mine again on Wednesday morning. A worker, who didn’t want their name to be known, told the BBC: “I left because I was concerned about my well-being. ”
“Lwazi” mentioned that he understood and felt sorry for Amcu. Amcu has been trying to be officially recognized at the mine for about five months. Currently, NUM has an agreement with Gold One mine where they are the only union allowed to represent the workers there.
“Lwazi agreed with the idea of allowing another union to organize at the mine, but didn’t support the way they went about it. ”
On Wednesday, the families of the workers were waiting outside the mine for their loved ones to come out.
A woman told the BBC that she had been waiting outside since Monday morning because her husband didn’t come back from work the previous night.
I feel pain. I don’t know when my husband will come back. He is sick. He has a disease called tuberculosis.
My husband is the one who earns money for our family. “I’m scared to go back home because I won’t know how to answer my kids’ questions,” she said.
Brenda Mudiri, who speaks for the police, said that officers were talking to the miners as they came out of the mine.
The people we spoke to said that they were kept somewhere without being allowed to leave. They informed us about fifteen people who were holding others captive. She said that it is difficult to tell which group these people who took hostages are associated with.
The people in charge at the mine agreed with the police and NUM’s opinion that the miners were taken captive.
Amcu claims that Gold One bosses worked together with the NUM, but the mine says this accusation is not true.

As per court documents obtained by Gossips24 Avenue, the socialite opened a total of five bank accounts in the Bronx, New York, using the names of different non-existent business ventures.
According to reports, the socialite used these 5 banks to dupe and steal from 6 victims
Per the court documents, one of the victims was a sixty-year-old man who entered into an online relationship with Mona. Subsequently, the victim received a fake marriage certificate from Mona as purported proof of their marriage recognition in Ghana.
Mona then requested substantial sums of money from this victim, purportedly to support her father’s farm in Ghana. The victim sent a total of 82 wire transfers, amounting to $89,000, from Converse, Texas, to Accra, Ghana, through Moneygram. These transfers were addressed to Mona, using the victim’s last name.
According to the documents, the “Say What” hitmaker had deposited money to the tune of $2,165,000 between December 31, 2013, and October 15, 2019.
A majority of such deposits were in cash and international wire transfers to Ghana.
In addition to the above, a romance scheme in which Mona allegedly defrauded a 70-year-old woman was uncovered.
Using a male persona, she established an online relationship with the victim and claimed to need financial assistance for transporting gold from overseas to the United States. She instructed the victim to send a check to a bank account under the name “4Reall Designs” and asked the victim to specify that the funds were intended for an investment. The victim complied and sent $195,000 from a bank account in SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, through ‘Montrage Account 3.’ However, the victim did not receive her money back or any returns on her supposed investment.

Ghanaian socialite and influencer, Mona Faiz Montrage, popularly known as Hajia 4Reall has been fingered in a romance scam in the United States of America. Hajia4real is alleged to be a member of a criminal conspiracy known as the Enterprise that specifically targeted older Americans through romance scams which were both financially and emotionally devastating for vulnerable victims. U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York, she had been doing this from about 2013 through to 2019. Under false pretense, she is alleged to have induced victims to send money for payments to transport gold to the United States from overseas, resolve a fake FBI unemployment investigation and assist a fake United States army officer in receiving funds from Afghanistan. She is said to have received approximately 82 wire transfers totaling approximately $89,000 to purportedly help with costs associated with her father’s farm in Ghana. In total, Hajia4Real is believed to have controlled bank accounts that received over $2 million in fraudulent funds from the Enterprise. She is currently facing six charges, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, one count of wire fraud, one count of money laundering conspiracy, and one count of money laundering, each of which carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. She is also charged with one count of receipt of stolen money, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and one count of conspiracy to receive stolen money, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. In total, she could see a possible 95-year jail term. Currently, the defendant, Hajia4Reall is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Hajia4Real was arrested in the United Kingdom on November 10, 2022, and was extradited from the United Kingdom on May 12, 2023. She has been Extradited From the United Kingdom To The United States, where U.S. District Judge Paul A. Crotty will be handling the case. The case is being prosecuted by the Office’s Complex Frauds and Cybercrime Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mitzi Steiner and Kevin Mead are in charge of the prosecution.

Based on court documents, it has been revealed that Ghanaian socialite Hajia4Reall maintained five foreign bank accounts, which she used to steal from six victims. These findings are documented in a set of court papers obtained by Gossips24 Avenue.
The socialite opened these five bank accounts under the names of various non-existent business ventures, all located in three different banks in Bronx, New York. These accounts, known as the ‘Montrage Accounts,’ were numbered from Account 1 to Account 5, and the court provided a detailed breakdown of how Hajia4Reall operated them.
Based on the information presented in court, Accounts 1 and 3 were business accounts held in the name of ‘Mona Montrage DBA 4Reall Designs,’ which was purported to be a sole proprietorship beauty supply store based at her home. She served as the sole signatory on Account 1 and Account 3, with Account 1 opened on May 23, 2018, and Account 3 on September 15, 2016.
But it did not seem like there had been any purchases of cosmetics made with that particular account.
The bank accounts numbered 2, 4, and 5 were kept under the name “Mona Faiz Montrage.” The investigations indicate that “Montrage” was the only signatory on Account 2 at first, until Individual 2 was added.
After that, the only signatories to Accounts 2 and 5 increased, with the exception of Account 4. It was revealed that deposits totaling $2, 165, 000 were made into the Montrage accounts between or around December 31, 2013, and October 15, 2019.
Afterwards, withdrawals totaling roughly $2, 096,000 were taken out of the aforementioned accounts. Most of these deposits were made to Ghana through foreign wire transfers and cash.
Not only that, but it was discovered that she had allegedly conned a 70-year-old woman in a romance scheme.
She allegedly made an online connection with the victim while posing as a man, telling him that she needed help paying to have gold shipped from abroad to the US. She gave the victim instructions on how to deposit a check to a bank account under the name “4Reall Designs.”
She also requested that the victim clarify that the money was intended for an investment. Following advice, the victim transferred $195,000 using the “Montrage Account 3” from a bank account located in San Antonio, Texas.
The victim never got any returns on her alleged investment or her money back.
Using the same strategy, another victim also sent $182,000 to the ‘Montrage Account 1’.
A sixty-year-old victim was the next to fall in love with Mona over the internet, and he eventually obtained a forged marriage certificate as evidence that they were lawfully wed in Ghana.
After that, Mona begged the victim for enormous sums of money so that she could support her father’s farm in Ghana.
According to reports, the victim used Moneygram to send 82 wire transfers worth $89,000 from Converse, Texas to Accra, Ghana. The transfers were made out to Mona and included the victim’s last name.

In June, the company decided that its teams cannot wear unique jerseys during pre-game warmups on theme nights, which promote social causes like LGBT support or the military.

Meteorologists from the US say that an extremely dangerous hurricane named Otis, which is a category five storm, has hit southern Mexico.
According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Otis made landfall near the popular Acapulco resort just after midnight on Wednesday.
The storm’s winds are expected to reach a speed of 165 miles per hour or 270 kilometers per hour.
The NHC said that there will be very big waves and lots of flooding in coastal areas, including Acapulco.
There is a warning for a hurricane along a 350km area of the coast between Zihuatanejo and Punta Maldonado in Guerrero state.
The National Hurricane Center said that a very dangerous storm surge is expected. This surge could cause severe flooding along the coast where the storm makes landfall and in areas to the east of it.
Close to the coastline, there will be big and harmful waves along with the increase in water level.
