  • Ghanaians are the enemies of their own advancement in the music industry – Cwesi Oteng

Ghanaians are the enemies of their own advancement in the music industry – Cwesi Oteng

Gospel musician and pastor Cwesi Oteng has reflected on his journey into the music scene and how it led to the development of some enemies.

The “God Dey Bless Me” singer shared that his unique approach to urban and contemporary gospel, which distinguished him from the mainstream in the music industry, resulted in some individuals displaying animosity towards him.

In an interview with Joy Fm, he said “Contemporary gospel music was underground music. It was annual concerts at the National Theatre and conference centre. I emerged as a face of a generation. It wasn’t just music that did it for me. It was also videos and conversation. I came to deal with mental strongholds that were holding that community back, and so I became an enemy to the music industry,”

In addition, he raised the issue of his long absence from music award schemes.

“Ask yourself when was the last time I was nominated for any major award scheme,” he further told the host Kwame Dadzie.

Ghanaians are the enemies of their own advancement in the music industry, according to Cwesi, a gospel musician known for his adaptable style that embraces nontraditional models.

On the show, rapper Edem disclosed that certain individuals within the industry intentionally undermine artists for their personal gain.

He went on to say that Ghanaians should be proud of their creatives for whatever progress they have made.

  • Irish woman fired over post regarding ‘terrorist state’ of Israel

Irish woman fired over post regarding ‘terrorist state’ of Israel

The Prime Minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, said that if a woman was fired for a post on social media about the Israel-Gaza war because of her political beliefs, he would suggest that she consult a lawyer for advice.

Courtney Carey lost her job at an Israeli technology company called Wix. Wix has around 500 employees in its office in Dublin. Courtney got fired because she called Israel a “terrorist state” on social media.

She later expressed that she disapproves of any type of violence, no matter who does it.

The president of Wix, Nir Zohar, said that their company is open-minded and tolerant, and they will never try to restrict anyone’s political opinions.

But, he said that the employee was told not to post anything offensive again after recently posting something similar, and the company later decided to let go of Ms.

The problem was discussed in the Dáil (Irish parliament’s lower house) on Tuesday. Varadkar said that he didn’t know the specifics of the situation, but he advised Ms. Carey to get advice because it’s against Irish employment law to fire someone because of their political beliefs.

This tweet cannot be shown on your internet browser. Please turn on JavaScript or use a different web browser to see the original content on Twitter.
“I think that is not right and I would suggest that the woman should get advice from the WRC, a trade union or a solicitor. It might be considered as unfair firing and there are ways to fix it,” he said.

The Irish Times said that Wix made a chat group for employees to talk about supporting Israel’s story on their messaging app, Slack.

The text says that the employees were encouraged to participate in a company project to make videos and campaigns that would change how people around the world think about the Israel-Gaza war.
Mick Barry TD brought up Ms. Carey’s firing in the Irish Parliament and asked the Irish Congress of Trade Unions to comment on the situation.

This could scare many workers in our country who want to speak against a very cruel war. “It also sets a bad example where workers can lose their jobs for sharing their political opinions,” he said.

Richard Boyd Barrett, a member of People Before Profit, found the case very disturbing when he talked about it in the Dáil.

In other places, the deputy prime minister Micheál Martin has said it’s not okay for someone to lose their job just because they have their own opinions.

“We are in a democracy where we can freely discuss and express our thoughts. Everyone has the right to express their opinions, and there are different opinions on these matters,” he said to the reporters on Tuesday.

“People unknowingly being prejudiced against Israel”

The conversation is happening at a time when Ireland and Israel are having difficulties in their diplomatic relationship.

Last week, Irish President Michael D Higgins talked to reporters in Italy and said that Israel broke international law when they retaliated against attacks and kidnappings by the Palestinian group Hamas.

Israel’s ambassador to Ireland, Dana Erlich, was criticized for calling Mr Higgins misinformed in a way that was not helpful.

Ms Erlich also expressed doubts about Ireland’s neutrality on the war. In an interview with the Sunday Independent, she mentioned that there is a strong belief in Israel that Ireland has an unconscious preference for other sides and is unfavorable towards Israel.

In another place, a high-ranking diplomat from Israel claimed that the Republic of Ireland supported Hamas financially. However, this statement was later removed from social media.

Adi Ophir Moaz, who works for the Israeli embassy in Dublin, said on X (previously known as Twitter) that Ireland provided money for the underground passages used for harmful purposes in Gaza.

A representative from the Israeli embassy explained that they deleted the post because it did not reflect the views of Israel or the embassy, and because the wording was incorrect.

  • Supreme Court of Japan rule against trans sterilisation law

Supreme Court of Japan rule against trans sterilisation law

The highest court in Japan has decided that it goes against the Constitution to make people unable to have children anymore before they can legally change their gender.

The 2004 law stated that individuals are allowed to change their gender if they are unable to have children.

The ruling on Wednesday happened because a transgender woman asked the court to reconsider the law.

Human Rights Watch says it’s bad and old.

On Wednesday, the court changed its previous decision and declared that the law, which was previously considered constitutional in 2019, is no longer valid.

Japan is one of 18 countries that make it compulsory for people to have sterilization surgery. This is something that the World Health Organization disagrees with. Canada is the only G7 country that does not have a law allowing same-sex unions.

The woman’s lawyer said that her ability to have children has decreased because of the hormones she has been taking for many years. He also mentioned that surgery would cause her to endure physical pain and could have negative effects afterward.

The family and high court said no to her request before she went to the Supreme Court.

Kanae Doi, the Japan director of Human Rights Watch, said to Reuters that the government needs to act swiftly to remove the clause.

But some groups who did not want the law to be changed said that if people were able to change their gender legally without having surgery, it might make women feel less safe. They also said that it might make things legally unclear.

According to recent polls, more and more people are supporting laws that are friendly towards LGBTQ individuals. However, there are some conservative people and politicians who disagree with these laws.

Recently, a court decided to support a transgender man named Gen Suzuki. He wanted to legally change his gender without having surgery.

The judge in the family court, Takehiro Sekiguchi, said that the existing law goes against Article 13 of the Constitution, which states that everyone should be treated with respect as individuals.

  • Nigerian doctor given life sentence over rape case

Nigerian doctor given life sentence over rape case

A court in Nigeria has given a medical director a life sentence in prison for sexually assaulting his wife’s teenage niece.

Dr Olufemi Olaleye hurt the girl in a sexual way for a long time. His wife discovered this and told the police, according to the prosecutor.

The doctor said he did not do anything wrong when he went to court.

However, a judge in a Lagos court disagreed and believed that there was enough evidence against the doctor. The judge also refused to go easy on the doctor despite his plea for a more lenient punishment.

Olaleye appeared in court last November. He was accused of raping someone twice, once between December 2019 and July 2022. This happened when the girl came to live with their family.

During the trial, the doctor’s wife, Aderemi Olaleye, explained that she found out about the abuse when the girl informed her aunt and the family’s driver. The 18-year-old girl said the doctor had been having a sexual relationship with her and had said he would harm her if she told anyone, according to the doctor’s wife.

He was charged with making her watch sexual videos against her will.

In the trial, six people spoke: a girl, the defendant’s wife, a doctor, an expert in child care, and two police officers who investigated the case.

The doctor spoke in his own defense with the help of another doctor who disagreed with the evidence presented by the prosecution.

However, when giving the decision on Tuesday, Justice Rahman Oshodi stated that the proof shown in court strongly points to the defendant being responsible.

Justice Oshodi called the head of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation a “dangerous” criminal who did not show any regret.

The judge said that because Olaleye admitted to the police that he did the wrongdoing, it shows that he is guilty.

The judge didn’t agree with the doctor’s lawyers, who said the girl was taught by the defendant’s wife to lie about him, so she could take his property.

The judge said the defendant is guilty.

“He said that this charge means you have to go to jail for the rest of your life. ”

The doctor’s lawyer, Adebisi Oridate, asked the state to consider Olaleye’s work as a cancer doctor and that he had never committed a crime before, as he made a plea for a lighter punishment.

But the judge rejected the request and said that Olaleye must go to prison for a long time to show that Nigeria does not tolerate sexual violence.

He also told them to put the doctor’s name on the list of sex offenders in Lagos State.

We don’t know if the doctor will try to change the decision of the court.

  • Moroccans demonstrate to call for additional earthquake relief

Moroccans demonstrate to call for additional earthquake relief

Many people in the town of Amizmiz in Morocco are angry at the government after an earthquake destroyed their homes. They have gathered in large numbers to show their disagreement.

Amizmiz, which is about 34 miles (55km) south of Marrakesh, was greatly affected by the earthquake that happened on 8 September.

This earthquake in Morocco was the worst in over 60 years. It caused the death of almost 3,000 people and made thousands more injured and homeless.

The people who live here are saying that the people in charge are taking too long to help them and not paying enough attention to them.

After the earthquake, officials set up temporary camps for families who had lost their homes. They also promised to give them money to help them rebuild their houses.

However, the people protesting are now saying that they can’t stay in the camps any longer because the conditions are getting worse. Rain and strong winds are hitting the area, and it’s getting colder as winter gets closer.

The protesters say that local authorities are not giving help to some people who lost their homes, like tents.

The protest happened on Tuesday even though the group that planned it, called Amizmiz Earthquake Victims’ Coordination, decided not to participate.

The group decided to leave because the local authorities promised to listen to their worries and try to solve them.

They said that the government had promised to help faster, by giving new tents to people who didn’t have any before, and replacing tents that were damaged by bad weather.

They also promised to make the camps cleaner and give the displaced people water and electricity.

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI recently stated that he will provide 120 billion Moroccan dirhams ($11. 6 billion; £94 billion) over the next five years to help rebuild the areas affected by the earthquake and assist the more than 4. 2 million people who have been impacted.

The plan promises to give 140,000 dirhams to each household whose home has completely collapsed and 80,000 dirhams to each household whose home has been partially damaged.

Earlier this month, the government announced that it has begun giving 2,500 dirhams every month to each household that has been affected. This will continue for a year as part of a cash relief program.

Morocco’s government received backlash from some people after they refused help from other countries following the earthquake, even though many people urgently needed assistance.

I believe it is a mistake to keep prioritizing independence and feeling proud of one’s country. This is not the right time to say no because the help is important, even rich countries accept assistance during disasters, activist Maati Mounjib said on the BBC Newsday show.

  • ‘We don’t need Ken Ofori-Atta and his people’ – Cocoa Farmers Association on COCOBOD monitoring desk

‘We don’t need Ken Ofori-Atta and his people’ – Cocoa Farmers Association on COCOBOD monitoring desk

President of the Concerned Cocoa Farmers Association, Nana Boateng Bonsu, has voiced apprehensions regarding the government’s decision to assign oversight of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) activities to the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

These concerns followed Mr. Ofori-Atta’s disclosure last week that his department, in collaboration with the Bank of Ghana, would establish a monitoring desk at COCOBOD to ensure fiscal discipline. This announcement did not sit well with Mr. Bonsu.

The decision comes in the wake of considerable annual deficits incurred by the Board, a situation noted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as constituting a significant threat to both the sector and governmental fiscal agendas.

During a media engagement, Ken Ofori-Atta elaborated, “Both the Governor of the Central Bank and the Minister of Finance – myself, will now be on the Board, and we are also setting up a desk at the Finance Ministry that will interact with the finance division of COCOBOD to make sure the issues of fertilisers, cocoa road are all brought into an ambit of discipline. Those begin to tell you how we are getting into the issue of expenditure.”

However, Nana Boateng Bonsu is of the view that Mr. Ofori-Atta is ill-equipped to supervise COCOBOD’s financial dealings, given what he perceives as an unsatisfactory track record in his current ministerial role.

“What is the Finance Minister coming to do? At the end of the day, we gave you the whole country to take care of, and what happened?” he queried during a media session.

He accuses the government of underestimating the farmers’ intelligence.

“COCOBOD is a collapsed institution. We know it, we foresaw it and said it several times, but they never listened. So for this situation, we don’t need Ken Ofori-Atta and his people [at COCOBOD]. What are they coming to do?

“If they had something better to offer, by now, Ghana’s economy would have shot up. They have nothing to offer. They should forget about Ken Ofori-Atta and his people,” he asserted.

Nana Boateng Bonsu also called for the dissolution of COCOBOD. He believes that abolishing the state institution responsible for regulating the country’s cocoa production and exports would liberate cocoa farmers.

“Right now, a lot of farmers are cutting down their cocoa trees and shifting to different crops, all because they’ve realised that they have been enslaved for so many years.

“COCOBOD has put wax in their ears and is not listening to the farmers. There’s nothing happening on the ground. There is no dialogue between farmers and COCOBOD. Anything that comes to them [COCOBOD] and they think it is beneficial to them or us, they just implement. There is nothing like an engagement or ‘let’s sit down with the farmers since they are those on the ground and see what they want’,” he expounded.

  • 700 Gazans killed in single day – Palestinian officials

700 Gazans killed in single day – Palestinian officials

The main United Nations group working in Gaza will have to stop its work soon because it doesn’t have enough fuel. This will make the humanitarian crisis worse. According to Palestinian officials, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have already killed over 700 people in just 24 hours.

Fuel supplies that are necessary to keep hospitals, pumps, and desalination systems running, as well as to power bakeries, are almost finished. In response, the UN Secretary General has asked for a ceasefire to happen right away on Tuesday. This has caused a strong disagreement among members of the United Nations, and Israel is calling for the UN Secretary General to step down.

Doctors in hospitals that are extremely busy and about to close have continuously warned that if they don’t receive fuel, many new patients injured by the bombs and babies relying on oxygen will die.

The worsening health situation, lack of cleanliness, and drinking of unclean, salty water are causing concerns of a health emergency where people could die from lack of fluids as the water system breaks down while bombs continue to fall.

UNRWA said on social media that if we don’t get fuel soon, we will have to stop our operations in #GazaStrip starting tomorrow night. According to Juliette Touma, a spokesperson for UNRWA, Gaza requires a minimum of 160,000 liters (42,267 gallons) of fuel each day for basic needs.

Only 8 out of the 20 aid trucks that were supposed to go to Gaza on Tuesday actually went there, according to UNRWA. There is no clear explanation for why the other 12 trucks couldn’t pass through the Rafah crossing.

According to the World Health Organization, six hospitals in Gaza have had to shut down because they ran out of fuel. This happened because of the Israeli siege that began two weeks ago.

The World Health Organization said that there are 1,000 patients who rely on dialysis, 130 premature babies, and other patients who need electricity to survive. These people are at risk of dying or having medical problems if there is no stable and continuous supply of electricity.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday that they will not allow any fuel to enter Gaza. They believe that Hamas will use the fuel for their own needs, like running their systems and carrying out rocket attacks.

The comments contradicted what the IDF Chief of Staff Lt. General Herzi Halevi said that they will ensure that there is enough fuel in the places where it is needed to help treat civilians. We won’t give Hamas any fuel to keep fighting against the people of Israel.

Israel’s leaders have promised to destroy Hamas after their deadly attacks on October 7. During these attacks, 1,400 people, mostly innocent civilians, were killed, and over 200 were kidnapped.

Over 700 people were killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours, which is the highest number in a single day since Israeli attacks on what they called Hamas targets started two and a half weeks ago. This information was shared by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, the people who died were 305 children, 173 women, and 78 elderly individuals.

Around 2 million people, including many children, live in the small coastal strip of Gaza which is only 140 square miles.

Strong feelings were experienced at the UN Security Council on Tuesday when Secretary General António Guterres asked for an immediate stop to fighting in order to protect the wellbeing of people in Gaza. He pointed out that there have been clear disobediences to the rules of humanitarian law.

“According to Guterres, protecting civilians should not involve forcing more than one million people to leave their homes and go to the southern region where there is no place to stay, no food, no water, no medicine, and no fuel. The bombing of the same southern region should also not continue. ”

“It is important to understand that the attacks by Hamas were not isolated incidents,” said Guterres. They have watched their land being taken, their economy being hindered, their people being forced to move, and their homes being destroyed.

He said that the killing and kidnapping done by Hamas on October 7 was very bad, but it doesn’t make it right to punish all the Palestinian people for it. Even in war, there are rules to follow.

The Israeli diplomats quickly reacted in a negative way.

The Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, asked Guterres to step down right away because of his comments. Erdan also said that Guterres is not suitable to lead the United Nations. He shared this message on social media. Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, who was at the United Nations on Tuesday, said he would not have a meeting with Guterres and that he does not agree with a fair and unbiased approach.

“Cohen wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Hamas should be completely eliminated from the world. ”

The situation in Gaza is getting worse and it’s difficult for countries around the world to agree on what to do.

The US has rejected requests for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The National Security Council spokesperson, John Kirby, told CNN that before a ceasefire can be considered, Hamas needs to release the hostages they are holding in Gaza.

Ongoing discussions are happening to try and free many people who are being kept captive by Hamas in Gaza. CNN reported on Tuesday that the discussions are being made difficult because of various reasons.

The United States, Israel, Qatar, Egypt, and Hamas are having ongoing discussions. Four people who were being held captive have been released. Two of them are from the United States and the other two are from Israel. But now, the goal is to agree on a plan to free a larger number of hostages all at the same time.

Israel has decided not to go into Gaza on foot yet, and the US has asked Israel to wait longer before taking action, so that more people held captive by Hamas can be set free.

Foreign Minister Cohen said outside the United Nations on Tuesday that Israel is determined to bring the hostages back home.

Cohen said that there are babies, twins, and holocaust survivors who are trapped, and our main goal is to bring them back home.

The US military advisers have told Israelis to not have a big ground attack in Gaza. They are also telling Israel to not fight in the cities like they did in Iraq. They want to prevent Israel from being stuck in bloody fighting in each house.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to soldiers on Tuesday and indicated that a ground operation was still planned. He stated that they are entering the next stage, which is imminent.

  • What I aimed at 25, I got at 19 – Kwami Eugene

    What I aimed at 25, I got at 19 – Kwami Eugene

Ghana’s self-acclaimed rock star Eugene Kwame Marfo, popularly known as Kwami Eugene, recently reflected on a promise he made to his mother in the past.

He had vowed to change their lives by the age of 25.

During an interview on Class 91.3 FM, the highlife/Afrobeats star joyfully revealed that he had accomplished that promise six years ahead of schedule.

“I always had a dream and an ambition. There’s a certain level I should get to. So I’ve dedicated all my life and time to getting to that level.

“I’m still not there yet but I’m proud of myself.

“I mean, I used to tell my mom that by 25, I’d change our lives [and], by 25, I would be driving a car.

“I got it at age 19,” Eugene said.

The multi-award-winning singer-songwriter and record producer first experienced success after joining Richie Mensah’s Lynx Entertainment label and releasing his Highlife smash song, Angela, which was produced by Killbeatz.

“At 19-years, I had Angela, and it was banging everywhere—young boy,” he recalled.

Now that he is 26 years old, Eugene reflected on the earlier years when he gave up socialising and playtime in order to gain the skills that have now made him one of the biggest stars on the African continent.

“I’m proud of myself. I mean, besides God being on my side, I’ve tried as much as possible to acquire a lot of knowledge about what I am doing today.

“When I was in Fadama, I didn’t do a lot of partying or clubbing, I didn’t go out there to go and play and all. It was just learn, learn, learn more. I had to learn how to produce, write, mix, master, edit – I was learning everything that I could get my hands on.

“I think it’s paying off today,” he noted, stressing: “Besides God being on my side, that’s the reason why I’ve been able to come this far.”

Kuami Eugene acknowledged that he used to skip school in order to go to Kobina Jam, a recording studio run by a gospel music programmer.

“I love him and I think I owe part of the reason I am here today to him,” the I Feel Nice hitmaker added. “He gave me an opportunity. Even though he didn’t teach me what I know, he gave me access to his machines.”

Revealing he has plans to appreciate Kobina Jam, he noted it will be “a grand visit,” and not just a casual visit with “money in an envelope”.

“I want to do something for him that he can live with for the rest of his life because he’s given me something special I am living with for the rest of my life,” he emphasised.

Kuami Eugene disclosed he has a timeline for the commitment and “it’s getting really close”.

Rags to Riches is the first song on a new 13-track album, Love & Chaos, by the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year. On it, he sings: “I want to move from rags to riches, I had that dream aged 17.”

  • “I’ve rejected a lot of roles, because they make no sense – Martha Ankomah

“I’ve rejected a lot of roles, because they make no sense – Martha Ankomah

Ghanaian actress, filmmaker, model, and entrepreneur, Martha Ankomah, has shared her criteria for choosing roles in movie casting. She passionately stated that she evaluates a movie based on its ability to condemn evil and promote goodness for personal growth and the betterment of the nation. If a movie does not align with these principles, she believes it holds little value and is not worth her time.

Martha Ankomah made these remarks during her guest appearance on Accra 100.5 FM on October 24, 2023. The discussion arose when host Akua Sonto inquired if Martha had turned down any potentially lucrative movie roles before venturing into producing her own films.

“I’ve rejected a lot of roles.

“Basically, I look at the storyline, the script. If I read the script and there’s no sense in it, I will not join the cast,” Ms Ankomah answered.

She explained: “There are movies which go about in circles and appear aimless. You find no sound advice in it. It’s not something the youth can learn productive things from. So any movie without a good moral lesson, I reject.”

Another example is a script which contains scenes like “a man who sleeps with women and kills them,” she cited. “What is the viewer taking aware from such a movie, how to kill multiple women?”

According to Martha, she recently rejected a role in a Nigerian movie.

“I was bold enough to tell the person who sent the script that the story doesn’t make sense. I was straightforward, and I have said that to many producers also,” she said.

Martha said this is why “nowadays, people don’t see me in a lot of movies. It’s because if the movie doesn’t make sense, I won’t show up for it”.

In Martha’s view, a good movie is not just relatable but does not encourage bad choices or promote unhealthy lifestyles.

“It is like soup which has all the ingredients that makes viewers exclaim: ‘Ah, this is a quality movie!’,” she said.

The Kiss Me If You Can star, loved for her talent and beauty, emphasised: “If it does not challenge you mentally, inspire positive change and cause development in the country, there’s no point being part of it. That’s my opinion.”

Chiming in, Peter Richie buttressed by pointing to Tyler Perry’s Acrimony as a movie “I watched five times because at every stage, I wanted to understand why this [or that] happened”.

  • 2,000 children killed in Gaza – Humanitarian organisation claims

2,000 children killed in Gaza – Humanitarian organisation claims

Tempers rose at the United Nations on Tuesday because of calls for a ceasefire. Aid groups and doctors in Gaza are concerned that power shortages could endanger the lives of vulnerable babies and patients.

Organizations that help people are asking for a stop to the fighting in Gaza. They say that in the last few weeks, Israel has been bombing Gaza more and that around 2,000 children have been killed there.

Yoav Gallant, Israel’s defense minister, announced on Monday that the country is getting ready to take action against Hamas, the militant group in control of Gaza. This operation will involve using air, ground, and sea forces.

In the last 24 hours, over 700 people died in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks on what they believed were Hamas targets. This is the highest number of deaths in a single day since the attacks began two and a half weeks ago. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah shared this information on Tuesday. The ministry said that among the people who died, there were 305 children, 173 women, and 78 elderly individuals.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, told soldiers on Tuesday that the recent strikes killed many terrorists. We dealt the enemy a very strong attack that they have never experienced before in just one day. “We have killed many terrorists, maybe even more,” he said.

Israel’s leaders have promised to eliminate Hamas in retaliation for their October 7 terrorist attacks and kidnapping spree, which resulted in the deaths of 1,400 people (mostly innocent civilians) and over 200 people being taken as hostages.

In Gaza, where people are isolated from the outside world because of a strong blockade, Israeli airstrikes have destroyed entire neighborhoods, including houses, schools, and mosques. On Monday, CNN used a drone to film the damage in some areas of the strip. The footage showed entire streets that were completely flattened in the al-Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City. It also showed a line of buildings known as al-Zahra towers in central Gaza that were destroyed.

New numbers from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, show that at least 5,087 people have died from Israeli attacks in the area. This includes 2,055 children.

The situation in Gaza is getting worse, and countries around the world are having a hard time agreeing on what to do.

The US rejects the request for a halt in fighting between Israel and Hamas. A spokesperson from the National Security Council, John Kirby, said on CNN that Hamas needs to let go of the people they are holding against their will in Gaza before a ceasefire can happen.

China, Russia, and Slovenia have asked for the fighting to stop, while Brazil and Ireland have suggested temporary breaks to provide help and support.

There were strong emotions at the UN Security Council on Tuesday when Secretary General António Guterres asked for an immediate ceasefire to help people who need help.

“Protecting ordinary people does not involve forcing over one million individuals to leave for the southern area where there are no places to stay, no food, no water, no medicine, and no fuel. Additionally, they are still being attacked in the south. ”

Guterres also stated that we should understand that the attacks by Hamas did not occur without any cause. The Palestinian people have endured 56 years of a very oppressive occupation. ” They have watched their land slowly taken over by towns and troubled by violence; their economy suppressed; their people forced to leave and their homes destroyed.

He said that Hamas’ terrible actions cannot excuse punishing all the Palestinian people. Dear honorable individuals, even during times of war, there are certain guidelines that need to be followed.
The Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, wrote on social media that he wants Guterres to quit right away. He also said that Guterres is not suitable to be the leader of the UN. The Israeli Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, was at the United Nations on Tuesday. He stated that he would not meet with Guterres and believes that a fair approach is not suitable.

“Hamas should be completely eliminated from the world. ” Cohen wrote on X, which is also called Twitter.

Israel’s ability to protect itself was supported by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the Security Council. He said that it is important to have breaks in fighting to let aid reach people in Gaza who need it. He specifically said not to use the word “ceasefire. ”

Blinken told the council that Israel needs to try its best to keep civilians safe and asked Hamas to stop using Palestinian people as a way to protect themselves.

Fuel is very important for living in Gaza. If there is no fuel, then water cannot be moved or turned into drinkable water. The machines that make hospitals work, like incubators, ventilators, and kidney machines, also won’t work. These machines need fuel to function. Fuel is also needed to clean surgical tools.

According to the World Health Organization, six hospitals in Gaza had to shut down because they did not have enough fuel.

The WHO says that six hospitals in the Gaza Strip have closed because they don’t have enough fuel. This is in addition to other hospitals that have closed because of damage and attacks.

The World Health Organization (WHO) alerted that unless Gaza urgently receives essential fuel and extra health supplies, many sick people who are at risk may die.

Save the Children said on Monday that more than 1 million children are stuck in Gaza without a safe place to go. They also warned about the serious effects of not having enough medicine and electricity to power important health facilities in the area.

A big organization of United Nations in Gaza stated that it will have to stop providing help in Gaza on Wednesday if fuel is not allowed into the area.

A person who works for CNN tried to escape from Gaza with his family. Learn the reasons for why he had to go back.

The UNRWA said on social media that if we don’t get fuel soon, we will have to stop working in the Gaza Strip starting tomorrow night.

Gaza needs a lot of fuel every day, about 160,000 litres (42,267 gallons). This fuel is not only for the UNRWA facilities, but also for hospitals, bakeries, and other important things that people need. Juliette Touma, a spokeswoman for the organization, said this.

Israeli and UN authorities have said that over the weekend, no fuel trucks from Egypt’s Rafah border crossing entered Gaza as part of a humanitarian aid convoy, despite the urgent need for it.

But, the leader of the Israel Defense Forces said on Tuesday that they will try to give fuel to help the people who are suffering. He repeated Israel’s stance that it will not allow the fuel to get to Hamas because they don’t want Hamas to keep fighting against the people of Israel.

The Lieutenant said that they will ensure there is enough fuel in the necessary locations to provide medical care to civilians. General Herzi Halevi mentioned that the IDF didn’t explain how they would get fuel to the people who needed it the most.

Earlier, Mark Regev, who advises Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said on CNN that Israel would not permit fuel to enter Gaza, even if all the hostages were set free.

Right now, we do not want to give any more fuel to the Hamas military machine. We have only approved medicine and water. We have given permission for food, but we have not given permission for anything else,” Regev stated.

The government has decided not to give fuel because they believe that Hamas will steal it and use it to power rockets that they shoot into Israel to harm our people.

The United Nations is carefully monitoring to see if Hamas is taking humanitarian aid meant for people in Gaza for themselves. So far, they haven’t seen any signs of this happening, according to the spokesperson for the US State Department, Matt Miller.
On Monday, Hamas let go of two Israeli citizens, who were older women. This happened because there was a lot of pressure from around the world to make sure the other abducted people are also released from Gaza. An 85-year-old grandmother named Yocheved Lifshitz was recently released after being kidnapped and taken to Gaza by gunmen. She described her terrible experience as going through hell.

Two American hostages, Judith Tai Raanan and her 17-year-old daughter, Natalie Raanan, were set free on Friday. Now, these other people are also being released.

The person speaking for the National Security Council, named Kirby, did not say on Tuesday whether the Israeli attacks on Gaza were causing any problems in trying to bring back or move hostages safely. This person said to CNN that the current US government, led by Biden, still does not know where and how the American hostages being kept by Hamas are doing.

In Gaza, there are now cases of chickenpox, scabies, and diarrhea because the health conditions are getting worse, there is not enough cleanliness, and people are drinking water that is not safe, according to the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Health.

Hospitals are in a very bad condition as they are extremely full, operating at more than their full capacity. The situation is so serious that surgeries are being done without anesthesia and sometimes using the light from phones, according to the health ministry of the Palestinian Authority.

Approximately 50,000 pregnant women are facing difficulties in obtaining medical care. Every day, there are roughly 166 unsafe births, and over 5,000 women are expected to give birth in the next month.

The biggest hospital in Gaza City, called Al-Shifa Hospital, has enough fuel for only two days, as stated by Marwan Abusada, a senior surgeon, on Monday.

The situation in Al-Shifa is very bad, a doctor said that without electricity, the hospital will become a place where a lot of people will die, and there is nothing they can do to help the injured people.

According to British-Palestinian surgeon Ghassan Abu-Sittah, the situation is falling apart and the fighting needs to stop.

If there is no fire or a safe path for people to leave, the existing catastrophe will become even worse.

The Gaza hospital has more than 130 new babies, but it is almost out of fuel.
A doctor who takes care of newborn babies in a hospital in southern Gaza said to CNN on Monday that if urgent fuel is not brought into the area, premature babies who need oxygen will die.

Hatem Edhair, who is in charge of the Neonatal ICU at Nasser Medical Complex, stated that all unnecessary services such as lights and air conditioning have been switched off.

He said there are 11 babies in his special hospital unit for newborns who are very sick, and most of them weigh less than 1. 5The number of babies coming to the unit is increasing because people from the north of Gaza are moving to the south.

Yesterday, twenty additional trucks filled with important supplies arrived in Gaza. However, aid organizations are concerned that the current speed of delivery will not be enough to meet the needs of over 2 million people living there.

According to UNRWA, on Tuesday, only eight out of the planned 20 aid trucks were able to enter Gaza. They didn’t say why the other twelve trucks didn’t make it across the crossing.

According to the United Nations, the place usually gets 455 trucks carrying aid every day. This means that Gaza is missing more than 7,200 truckloads of aid that it would normally receive between October 7 and October 22, even with the deliveries over the weekend.

That’s a tiny portion of the usual aid it gets – just one out of every two hundred parts.

  • GII backs calls for EOCO to look into road contracts corruption claims by Prof Addai

GII backs calls for EOCO to look into road contracts corruption claims by Prof Addai

The Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mary Adah, has expressed her support for Road and Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako-Attah’s decision to petition the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate allegations of organized crime in the award of road contracts made by Professor Stephen Addai.

She stressed that allegations often contain elements of truth, and thus, the call for an investigation is a commendable step in the right direction.

These actions stem from allegations made by former GIMPA Rector, Professor Stephen Addai, who claimed irregularities in the award of road contracts. He mentioned in an interview with Accra-based TV3 that a payment of one million upfront is required to secure a road contract in the country.

In response, the Roads Ministry issued a statement refuting the allegations, asserting that the processes leading to the award of road contracts adhere to openness, transparency, competitiveness, and the law.

The Minister in charge of the sector has subsequently requested EOCO to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Mary Adah, speaking to Class News, expressed her approval of the Minister’s decision, considering it a positive step in the right direction.

She said: “To begin with, when allegations are made, the person who made the allegation would have found semblance of evidence or might have heard something from somewhere or could have experienced or encountered same.

“So for the venerable professor to have indicated that to get a road contact in this country you would have had to pay a certain bribe of a certain amount would mean he has either been told; he has either experienced or been confronted with such in his past experience or current experience. So that is the right thing to do as a citizen.”

Fortunately for us, the professor is in our space and he has made this allegation, so it is also within the purview of the law for those who were the target of this allegation to respond as well, and I am not surprised that they are.” stated the anti-graft boss.

“And it is good that the roads minister wants this issue investigated and it is within the remit of EOCO, the Special Prosecutor as well could look into it, so it’s not for one agency to do so.”

Madam Adah further stated that the GII believes that those who call for accountability must come with clean hands so if the roads ministry believes this allegation must be investigated, it is the right call.

She emphasised that the Office of Special Prosecutor doesn’t even need anybody to put up a complaint before they investigate “so there are many institutions of state that can take this up and then based on whatever evidence the professor has, they can build their investigation on and bring findings which will either substantiate or negate the allegations that have been made.”

She applauded and added that the move by the Roads Minister “is good for the fight against corruption that when allegations are made, people occupying public spaces who have power will want the right things to be done and so will want to initiate investigation”.

She stressed “what the Roads minister has done is in good direction and more of this should happen.”

She finally called on the agencies of state who have received this complaint to act on it expeditiously.

  • Senator from Washington detained in Hong Kong for possessing firearm in an airport

Senator from Washington detained in Hong Kong for possessing firearm in an airport

A politician from the United States got arrested in Hong Kong because he brought a gun into the city. CNN saw a document that lists the charges against him. He says it was just a mistake and he didn’t mean to do anything wrong.

Washington state senator Jeff Wilson was taken into custody on Saturday at Hong Kong International Airport. He has been accused of having a firearm without a license, which is against the law. If found guilty, he could face a prison sentence of up to 14 years and have to pay a fine of over $12,000.

Wilson went to court on Monday and was allowed to leave after paying bail, as reported by RTHK.

The Republican state senator, whose whole name is Stephen J. Wilson admitted that he didn’t realize he had put his gun in his bag when he and his wife were going on a five-week vacation to Southeast Asia. This information was shared on his website.

“It was a mistake that was made without any intention to deceive or cause harm. ” Wilson said in the statement that she believes the situation will be fixed soon.

Wilson said he found the weapon while he was flying from San Francisco to Hong Kong.

The person didn’t know that he had a gun in his bag when he went through airport security in Portland. The people checking the bags didn’t see it either.

Wilson said that as soon as the plane arrived in Hong Kong, he went straight to the customs officials and told them about the problem.

A spokesperson for the Transportation Security Administration said in an email to CNN that they know a passenger carried an empty gun in their bag through security at Portland International Airport.

The person was taken into custody when they arrived in Hong Kong. The TSA is very concerned about this situation and is currently looking into what happened.

It said that if you bring a gun to a TSA checkpoint, you could be fined up to $15,000. Also, you won’t be allowed to use TSA PreCheck for up to five years.

CNN has asked for a response or statement from Portland International Airport and San Francisco International Airport.

A spokesperson from the US Consulate General said they know about the reports, but can’t say more because they need to respect people’s privacy.

The Customs and Excise Department of Hong Kong declined to comment on ongoing legal proceedings, according to an email sent to CNN.

The news from RTHK says that Wilson will go to court in Hong Kong on October 30 for his next hearing.

In Hong Kong, it is against the law for anyone to have guns or bullets without permission from the police. Only police officers, armed security guard services, and exclusive shooting range club operators are allowed to have licenses.

Problems with guns are not common in Hong Kong, unlike in the United States where guns are a big issue. The leading cause of death for children and teenagers is one dangerous person.

In Washington state, you can carry guns openly without a license. This means you can carry a gun in many public places, but some private property owners can still say no to guns on their property. However, you must have a license to carry hidden guns in this state.

Wilson mentioned that his gun was officially recorded in Washington state and he has a license that allows him to carry it hidden.

  • Korean man, 82, suffers heart attack after choking on meal of ‘live octopus’

Korean man, 82, suffers heart attack after choking on meal of ‘live octopus’

An old man in South Korea had a heart attack because he choked on a live octopus. The octopus was still moving when he ate it and it is a popular food in that area.

The fire station in Gwangju received a call on Monday morning about a man who was choking on a piece of san-nakji, a type of food.

When the people who help first arrived at the place, the man’s heart stopped, and they tried to bring him back to life by doing CPR, said the official.

The official did not say if the man is still alive.

San-nakji is a type of small octopus that is cut and eaten raw. People in South Korea who live near the coast or visit seafood markets often enjoy eating it.

The dish is called “live octopus,” but that’s not completely true – the octopus is actually killed before it’s served, and its tentacles are cut into pieces.

However, the octopus is served right after cutting, and it is so fresh that its tentacles’ nerves are still active. This makes the octopus look like it is still alive as it moves on the plate.

San-nakji is usually eaten with sesame oil, sesame seeds, and occasionally ginger. It has a rubbery texture.

It showed up on a 2015 episode of Anthony Bourdain’s CNN show “Parts Unknown,” when the famous chef and TV host went to South Korea to try various things like soju, Korean fried chicken, and san-nakji. Bourdain used his chopsticks to remove a sticky tentacle from the plate.

The food dish we’re talking about has been in the news before. Local media has reported that there have been cases in the past where people have died after choking or being unable to breathe because of eating “live octopus. ”

In a well-known case called the “octopus murder,” a man from South Korea was given a life sentence in 2012 for supposedly killing his girlfriend and saying it was an accident involving san-nakji. However, in 2013, the Supreme Court found him not guilty because there wasn’t enough evidence.

  • “This is a ridiculous lie”- Bawumia to Ken Agyapong’s claims of vote buying

“This is a ridiculous lie”- Bawumia to Ken Agyapong’s claims of vote buying

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed his concern about the frequency with which some of his opponents in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential flagbearership race are spreading falsehoods about him in the lead-up to the November 4 primaries.

Speaking to delegates in the Tatale-Sanguli constituency in the Northern Region on October 24, 2023, Bawumia revealed that he is confronted with a new falsehood regarding his character or his stance on various matters almost daily.

“I am hearing a different lie everyday as I am sitting down and watching what they are saying,” he stated alleging that the unnamed opponents were bent on creating disunity within the rank and file of the NPP.

He addressed three lies that he said had surfaced recently. First, he addressed Kennedy Agyapong’s allegation that the vice presidential candidate’s campaign purchased the votes of some super delegates with pickup trucks and 100,000 cedis.

“They say I have given all constituency chairmen, 275 constituency chairmen a hundred thousand cedis (GHc100,000.00), and a pick-up. Have you seen any pick-up here for your chairman? This is just a ridiculous lie” Vice-President Bawumia added.

Bawumia also addressed the claim that he was against the electoral college being expanded, saying that this could not be far from the truth.

“How can this happen? It is not possible for me to stop polling station executives and electoral area coordinators from voting. This was a national conference decision and I was very supportive of expanding the electoral college to allow polling station executives and electoral area coordinators to vote and by the grace of God, they will continue to vote,” he stated.

The final topic he brought up concerned the alleged stance that current members of Parliament support, namely that they should be permitted to run unopposed in the 2024 elections.

He said: “How can I say that? The party’s constitution cannot even allow that. This party is stronger when we have democracy working and so, I will never say any sitting MP must go unopposed. There must be consensus in all constituencies and so that lie should be left alone” Dr Bawumia remarked.

“But as I have said, their tactic is that “if you miss the ball, don’t miss the man,” but as for this one, they will miss the man because we will not allow their lies to take root.”

  • Teachers in North Tongu threaten to quit their jobs in search of safer places due to the Dam spillage

Teachers in North Tongu threaten to quit their jobs in search of safer places due to the Dam spillage

Teachers in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region are facing significant challenges due to the ongoing spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong dams. This situation has severely impacted their living conditions and professional lives, leading many of them to consider leaving the district in search of more stable environments.

The District Chairman for the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in North Tongu, Sammy Olando Bansah, expressed deep concern about the teachers’ plight in the district during an interview with Class 91.3 FM’s Volta Regional Correspondent, Kingsley Attitsogbui.

He pointed out that many of his colleagues had not yet returned to the district following the flooding caused by the dam spillage. Moreover, he highlighted the hardships that teachers face in their daily journey to reach their classrooms, which often involves crossing rivers. This challenging situation is prompting many teachers to contemplate relocating to areas with better working and living conditions.

Mr. Bansah, therefore, made a fervent appeal for immediate support to the affected teachers, underscoring their critical need for essential resources such as life jackets, accommodation, and access to clean drinking water. He also highlighted the challenges faced by teachers in areas where water sources have been contaminated due to the ongoing dam spillage.

The ongoing dam spillage in the Volta Region has had a significant impact, with at least 35,995 people displaced, as reported by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

The North Tongu District has been particularly hard-hit, recording the highest number of displaced individuals, totaling 12,600 across 69 communities.

Currently, 4,220 people from these affected communities are seeking refuge in safe havens. This underscores the urgency of providing support and resources to the affected communities and individuals, including the teachers who play a crucial role in the education of the region’s children.

We have had enough of their blatant lies- Ablakwa fires Freda Prempeh over Akosombo Dam spillage comments

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, has expressed his anger over recent statements made by Sanitation Minister Freda Prempeh. The Minister claimed that residents of Mepe, in the Lower Volta area, had refused to relocate despite numerous warnings from the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

During a forum organized by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in Accra, Madam Prempeh held the residents responsible for their failure to move to higher ground as recommended. She pointed out that extensive education had been provided to residents before the spillage of the Akosombo Dam, and their failure to heed the advice had contributed to the current catastrophic situation.

In response, Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa expressed his strong disapproval of the Minister’s comments and emphasized the need for respectful treatment of the affected people.

In an interview with Class FM, he said “We are distressed, we are depressed, and we are devastated, and they should stop these things because it is getting on our nerves. We have had enough of their blatant lies. She should tell us when, and she should give us dates when they came here. I mean, does she know what she is talking about? Where did they say the people should move to and they refused? The people were here more than 200 years before the dam was constructed.”

  • University of Ghana represents the nation – UG VC responds to Akufo-Addo’s call to rename UG after J.B. Danquah

University of Ghana represents the nation – UG VC responds to Akufo-Addo’s call to rename UG after J.B. Danquah

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has publicly responded for the first time to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s suggestion that the university should be renamed in honor of the late Ghanaian statesman, J. B. Danquah.

In an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse program, Prof. Appiah Amfo refuted the notion that individuals who played significant roles in the establishment of the university, like J. B. Danquah, have not received proper recognition. She pointed out that there are various ways to acknowledge the contributions of such individuals, which have already been done.

The Vice Chancellor stated, “I think that all those who played significant roles in the establishment of the university have properly been acknowledged. What the president was advocating for was a renaming of the university after him (J. B. Danquah). But that is something that is subject to a huge debate. There are various ways in which to acknowledge people who have contributed to the establishment of the university. And we have a whole avenue named after J.B. Danquah—that is the major avenue in this university.”

She also countered the idea that the university lacks an identity because it is not named after an individual, asserting that the University of Ghana represents the nation and has a well-known brand recognized worldwide.

“The University of Ghana represents the nation; it represents the nation, and this is a brand that is well known all over the world, all of these years. It is representative of the nation,” she stressed.

President Akufo-Addo’s proposal to rename the University of Ghana in honor of J. B. Danquah had sparked public debate. He made this suggestion during the university’s 75th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service, highlighting Danquah’s invaluable contributions to the university’s establishment. The President mentioned that this idea might become a reality in the near future.

In his words, “How felicitous was that decision and how greatly it’s contributed to the growth of modern Ghana. It would be wholly appropriate, and not at all far-fetched, to describe Joseph Boakye Danquah as the founder of this university. A fact, which on the 75th anniversary of its existence, should be vividly recalled by all of us who have been, and are the beneficiaries of his work. Indeed, in many other jurisdictions where there is less heat in their politics, and more attachment to the historical records, it would not have been put of place to have this university named after him. Who knows, one day, it may well happen.”

  • How to deal with dandruff the natural way

How to deal with dandruff the natural way

Dealing with dandruff naturally involves using home remedies and making lifestyle changes to reduce its occurrence. Here are some natural ways to manage dandruff:

    1. Regular Hair Washing: Ensure that you wash your hair regularly but not excessively. Over-washing can strip your scalp of its natural oils, leading to dryness and potentially worsening dandruff.
    2. Use a Gentle Shampoo: Choose a mild, sulfate-free, and anti-dandruff shampoo. Look for ingredients like tea tree oil, neem, aloe vera, or chamomile, which can help soothe the scalp.
    3. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): Mix equal parts of water and apple cider vinegar, and apply it to your scalp before shampooing. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse. ACV has antimicrobial properties and can help balance the pH of the scalp.
    4. Tea Tree Oil: Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with a carrier oil like coconut oil and apply it to your scalp. Tea tree oil has antifungal properties and can help reduce dandruff.
    5. Aloe Vera: Apply fresh aloe vera gel to your scalp and leave it for 30 minutes before washing your hair. Aloe vera can help moisturize and soothe the scalp.
    6. Neem (Indian Lilac): Boil neem leaves in water and use the water to rinse your hair. Neem has anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.
    7. Coconut Oil: Massage warm coconut oil into your scalp and leave it on for a few hours or overnight. It helps to moisturize and prevent dryness.
    8. Fenugreek Seeds: Soak fenugreek seeds in water overnight, grind them into a paste, and apply it to your scalp for about 30 minutes. It can help reduce dandruff and soothe the scalp.
    9. Diet: A balanced and healthy diet can play a significant role in reducing dandruff. Include foods rich in zinc, B vitamins, and Omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. These nutrients can promote a healthy scalp.
    10. Hydration: Drink plenty of water to keep your scalp and skin hydrated.
    11. Stress Management: Stress can exacerbate dandruff, so practice stress-reduction techniques like yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises.
    12. Avoid Triggering Factors: Try to avoid factors that may exacerbate dandruff, such as excessive use of hair products, exposure to extreme cold or hot weather, and using hot water while washing your hair.

Remember that natural remedies may take time to show results, and consistency is key. If your dandruff persists or worsens despite trying these methods, consider consulting a dermatologist for further guidance and treatment options. They may recommend medicated shampoos or other treatments to address the issue more effectively.

  • “Laughing gas” craze top trends among Ghanaian youth

“Laughing gas” craze top trends among Ghanaian youth

In a concerning development, nitrous oxide-filled balloons, colloquially known as “laughing gas,” have recently taken center stage as a growing trend among Ghanaian youths. This surge in popularity has raised serious concerns about the escalation of drug abuse within the country.

Nitrous oxide, a colorless and odorless gas primarily utilized as an anesthetic during surgical procedures, is now finding its way into recreational use among Ghanaian youths. These youngsters are turning to balloons filled with the gas to achieve a sense of intoxication and euphoria, leading to its incorporation as a novelty at parties and club gatherings.

Investigations conducted unveiled a troubling pattern in which nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is being embraced as an “escape route” for young Ghanaian seeking relaxation, tranquility, a rapid high, an escape from reality, and an elevated mood. The prevalence of this worrisome trend is rapidly gaining momentum, driven in part by its depiction in Nigerian music videos featuring renowned artists.

The surge in laughing gas abuse has prompted calls for greater awareness and intervention to address this emerging issue within Ghanaian youth culture. The potential health risks and broader societal implications associated with this trend have yet to be comprehensively understood, making it a subject of mounting concern among healthcare authorities and the general public.

    Dangers of inhaling laugh gas

Analyzing the dangers of Nitrous Oxide-inflated balloons, a resident doctor and health influencer, Dr. Olusina Ajidahun, warned that prolonged exposure to this gas can damage the brain and the spinal cord.

Dr. Ajidahun, popularly known as The_Bearded_Dr_Sina on Twitter wrote: “Seems a lot of people don’t know how dangerous doing Balloons is.

“Nickname ‘Balloons’ are the colloquial name for Nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is a gas that has both medical and industrial use. In Medicine, it is used to sedate patients during surgery so they don’t know to feel the pain. It is used for Anaesthesia.

“The Nitrous gas is usually inhaled by taking it through the Nose or mouth. The gas is able to get into the blood, which carries to the brain and other organs in the body.

“Nitrous oxide is commonly called Laughing Gas due to sense of Euphoria. Meaning it can gas the person up so much that they feel so high, happy, on top of the world. They can start to see things which are not truly there. Fake happiness.

“Here is where it gets dangerous. Prolonged exposure to this Gas can damage the Brain and spinal cord. The gas is dangerous to the cells that make up the brain and spinal cord.

“Vitamin B 12 is one of the essential nutrients we need for blood cells and brain growth gotten from food. Nitrous Oxide blocks Vit B12, so part of cells are not produced. Blood levels drop. It also can cause abnormal ringing in the ears, dizziness and fainting.

“Some other dangers are in the long run. It can cause memory loss, and can drop the blood pressure sharply. It can cause heart attacks, sudden death and even problems with reproduction.”

Also, in an exclusive chat with Persecondnews, Dr. Ajidahun noted that Nitrous Oxide is in gas form and under pressure and low temperatures.

“Many diffuse the gas into balloons. It is dangerous to take from the canisters directly, as the coldness can destroy cells. They inhale it, It goes to the lungs and from there into the bloodstream and organs.

“The abuse are stemmed on the risk of people wanting to try and experiment. The media and celebrities also glamorize it.

“Vendors also hawk it on IG, snap chat, Twitter, etc. Many people have idolized celebs and are impressionable. They want to experiment like their faves and get hung up,” he added.

  • Ghana’s properties in UK to be sold to pay off debt

Ghana’s properties in UK to be sold to pay off debt

The High Commissioner of Ghana to the United Kingdom (UK), Papa Owusu-Ankomah, has confirmed the looming threat of the sale of Government of Ghana properties in the UK due to a failure to settle a judgment debt owed to GPGC, a subsidiary of international commodities company, Trafigura.

In an interview on JoyNews on October 23, 2023, Papa Owusu-Ankomah revealed that only one Government of Ghana property has been attached so far, with the rest enjoying diplomatic immunity. He expressed his disappointment at the situation, citing the government’s current financial constraints, which have made it unable to meet its debt obligations.

Owusu-Ankomah clarified, “As far as I am aware, it’s only Regina House which is used for commercial purposes because it’s been rented by the Ghana International Bank, two other banks, and another commercial entity. That is the one that has been attached. All other properties are diplomatic properties and covered by immunity. I heard you talk about the High Commissioner’s residence, but that’s being used for diplomatic purposes; likewise, the other building you’re talking about, that’s the chancery, has not been attached. But I am sure the government is taking steps to liquidate that debt.”

He acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, expressing embarrassment as the High Commissioner, and emphasized that the Ministry of Finance is working diligently to reach an agreement with the creditor to prevent the sale of Ghanaian properties.

    Background:

The issue stems from a UK court awarding a $140 million arbitral award against Ghana in 2021 over the termination of a power deal with GPGC, a subsidiary of Trafigura. The court ruled that Ghana must pay the full value of the Early Termination Payment of $134,348,661, along with additional costs. The government is not only required to pay the debt but also the accrued interest, arbitration costs, and GPGC’s legal fees. Trafigura now holds the authority to sell Ghana’s assets in the UK to recover the owed amount.

Ghanaian rapper Denning Edem Hotor, popularly known by his stage name, Edem, has shared a surprising insight into the motivations behind some Ghanaian artists applying to join the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

In a recent interview with Giovanni Caleb on 3FM Drive, the ‘Toto’ hitmaker expressed that the union has strayed from its fundamental role of advocating for musicians’ interests and cultivating a thriving music industry.

Edem revealed that, in recent times, many individuals seek membership in the union primarily with the intention of facilitating international travel.

“MUSIGA membership, mostly people take that membership because they want to travel abroad.

Aside from that, there is nothing you do,” he said.

  • 5 foods that help prevent kidney stones

5 foods that help prevent kidney stones

Preventing kidney stones can be aided by maintaining a diet that’s low in certain substances that can lead to stone formation. Here are five foods that can help in preventing kidney stones:

    1. Water: Staying well-hydrated is essential in preventing kidney stones. Drinking enough water helps dilute the substances that can form stones and flush them out of your kidneys.
    2. Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits like lemons, limes, and oranges are rich in citrate, which can help prevent kidney stone formation. Citrate can bind to calcium in the urine, preventing it from crystallizing and forming stones.
    3. Leafy greens: Consuming leafy green vegetables like spinach and kale can provide essential nutrients and help prevent kidney stones. These greens are high in calcium, which can bind to oxalate (a common stone-forming compound) and reduce its absorption in the intestines.
    4. Low-sodium foods: High sodium intake can increase calcium levels in the urine, potentially leading to stone formation. Reducing sodium in your diet by consuming low-sodium foods and limiting processed foods can help prevent kidney stones.
    5. Dairy products: Consuming moderate amounts of low-fat dairy products can help provide the necessary calcium without increasing the risk of kidney stones. Calcium-rich foods can bind to oxalate and prevent it from forming stones.

It’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider or a registered dietitian for personalized dietary recommendations to reduce the risk of kidney stones, as individual factors and stone composition can vary.

Run away from anything that will cost you your happiness – Empress Gifty to women

Ghanaian gospel musician Gifty Adorye, popularly known as Empress Gifty, has offered advice to women facing mistreatment in their marriages.

She encouraged women to leave their marriages if they are not being treated right by their husbands. Empress Gifty expressed her concern about women who endure mistreatment and emotional distress in their marriages when they have the option to start anew elsewhere.

She emphasized that women facing marital difficulties should prioritize their peace of mind over societal expectations and not be overly concerned about what others might say about their decision to end their marriages.

In a video shared on her social media page, she said, “Why would a beautiful woman like you sit down for a man to give you a broken heart? Why would you sit down your whole life for a man to give you depression? Because we are too concerned about what others will say like ‘You’ve divorced already and another marriage couldn’t succeed, what am I going to tell my relatives?’ Do they matter?”

Empress Gifty emphasized that women should not let societal pressure and criticisms dictate their choices in marriages. She stressed that it’s essential for individuals to consider what is right for their own well-being and happiness. If a marriage is causing emotional distress or mistreatment, she advised women to consider the option of divorce as a means to protect their peace and mental health.

She added that women should not be discouraged by their marital issues because it could pave the way for better things to come their way.

“Now that you’re alive and you know good and bad, run away from anything that will cost you your happiness. A woman who thinks society can determine her future, and her life has come to an end due to a situation. I want to tell you that it is the start of something God wants to do in your life. If he is leaving, let him go because he does not deserve a peaceful and beautiful woman like you,” said Empress Gifty.

It will be recalled that in 2017, Empress Gifty and Prophet Prince Elisha Osei got divorced, and the topic of conversation on social media arose.

Considering she was divorced once herself, her advice to women should come as no surprise.

Makola fire: SSNIT must support victims – GUTA

The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has expressed its displeasure with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for constructing a market in the central business district with inadequate structural planning for traders.

This discontent arises in the aftermath of a fire incident that ravaged Accra’s Makola Shopping Mall over the weekend, resulting in the destruction of around 200 makeshift structures.

The fire consumed items such as jewelry, perfumes, wigs, cosmetics, hair products, and dresses valued at millions of Ghana cedis. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, although the cause of the fire remains unknown.

In an interview with Citi News during an inspection tour of the market, the director of communication for GUTA, Joseph Padi, appealed to SSNIT to step in to ensure the safety of local markets and demanded immediate help for the victims.

“What we saw on the ground is inhumane. It is like a cubicle. Our members were telling us that they pay almost everything from rent to refuse fees. We are asking what SSNIT is going to do for the traders because they have been badly affected.”

Chief Imam’s security guard allegedly assaults GHOne TV presenter

GHOne TV host Lantam Papanko was allegedly attacked by National Chief Imam security guards on the Ofankor-Amasaman road on October 22, 2023.

The co-host of GHOne TV’s morning current narrating his ordeal, said he noticed a motorbike rider was trying to pass him while he was travelling in the inner lane on the Ofankor-Tantra stretch.

Papanko allegedly got into a violent altercation with the motorbike rider after attempting to interrogate him about his irresponsible behaviour. Offended, the motorbike rider said Papanko was blocking his path.

Lantam Papanko said how the enraged biker verbally attacked him before smashing his car and hitting his side mirror.

“I was driving from the Ofankor roundabout headed towards Tantra roundabout, mile 7. And I was driving in the inner lane. So while I was moving, I saw a motorcyclist coming from behind me. I noticed the motorcycle moving fast to right to the driver’s side, behind me, and was trying to overtake me. I was wondering what the problem was. And he started signalling to me that I should move off the road.

He added, “So I also signalled to him what was the problem? Why he was signalling me to move off the road?
Then he moved off from that side and then came to the other side, the passenger side on the right side. And he started insulting me. He asked me why I didn’t want to move off the road. I realized a black SUV bearing the number plate ‘Imam’ with flashing red and blue lights had been following me. Struggling to comprehend the unfolding scene, I witnessed the motorcyclist pulling up beside me and verbally assaulting me. The aggressive exchange didn’t end there. In a fit of rage, the motorcyclist struck my vehicle with his hands and then violently hit my side mirror, causing it to turn.”

Papanko revealed that he was compelled to come to a halt when the vehicle, allegedly associated with the National Chief Imam, abruptly blocked the path of his car. He recounted that the motorcyclist verbally abused him, and three individuals emerged from the vehicle, engaged in the assault, and began slapping and shoving him. Papanko stated that he was outnumbered and that his assailants damaged his vehicle during the altercation.

Following the attack, he claimed that the individuals involved retreated and departed the scene in their vehicle.

“He confronted me with accusations of disrespect and used his helmet to strike me through the car window. So the guy rode off and then I saw the chief Imam’s car pass. I picked up my normal speed again. Then I realized that ahead of me, the chief Imam’s car came to an abrupt stop right in front of me. I had to come to a screeching halt. The rider pulled up beside me again. He got down from the vehicle, took off his helmet and started saying, don’t I respect? What is the meaning of what I was doing? And he used his helmet through the window to hit me in my face.

And I saw about three people get down from the chief Imam’s vehicle. They came and stood by my side where I was directly sitting, while in the car. And they started slapping and hitting me on my head and face and asking me, don’t I know that is the chief Imam that is coming? Don’t I respect? The old man is sitting in the car. Instead of getting out of the way, I’m still sitting in the car and I do want to move. What is wrong with me? Why am I behaving like that?

“The guy used his helmet to hit me through the window like four times. And the other guys were slapping me and hitting me. I tried to protect myself with my hands. One of them eventually struck me in the forehead.” he added.

He mentioned that he promptly sought medical attention at Achimota Hospital and subsequently filed a complaint at the Mile 7 Police Station.

NSMQ finals – John Dumelo vows to walk barefooted backward if PRESEC wins

Ghanaian actor John Dumelo, an alumnus of Achimota School, has pledged to walk barefoot to Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC) if Achimota School wins the ongoing National Science and Maths Quiz. Although many consider PRESEC as the favorites for their eighth NSMQ title, John Dumelo is confident that Achimota School will outperform them.

John Dumelo tweeted on Sunday, October 22, 2023, “I am a proud Achimotan but If Presec wins the #NSMQ2023 on the 31st, I will walk barefoot backwards from Ayawaso West Wuogon to Presec school! They can’t win over Motown! Presec? Tweeeaa!!!”

Meanwhile, in the ongoing National Science and Maths Quiz, a petition submitted by Prempeh College, challenging the semifinal results, has been dismissed. Opoku Ware triumphed over Prempeh and Pope Johns Senior High School to advance to the grand finale with Presec and Achimota School. Prempeh College had raised concerns about the semifinal results and had taken to social media to voice their discontent. However, the organizers of the NSMQ, Primetime, defended the Quiz Mistress’s decision and refuted claims of unfairness.

I will post evidence on social media if you dare me – Ken to delegates who sold their votes

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbear hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong has issued a threat to disclose photos of individuals he alleges sold their votes during the NPP super delegates’ elections in August 2023.

Ken Agyapong claimed that numerous party executives, including chairpersons, accepted significant sums of money and new vehicles in exchange for their votes during the elections.

According to him, some party leaders received as much as GH¢100,000 and brand-new pickup trucks in exchange for their support.

“The super delegates election, 945 or so electorate. Some executives got as much as GH¢100,000, which is 1 billion old cedis, and some got Navara pickups. I have the pictures here, and if they dare me, I will put them on social media for everybody to see… they took a brand new pickup Navara, like the Mitsubishi pickup I brought to Yaa-Naa which is worth $40,000,” he said.

He tasked other delegates for the November 4 vote to demand similar amounts or refuse to cast their votes for such candidates.

“So, $40,000 multiplied by 11 is $440,000. In the Ashanti region, some got as high as GH¢150,000. Then some of the chairmen got Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, so why won’t he win?

“This time I am advising all delegates and polling station executives to take at least GH¢100,000, if not, don’t vote for them because I, Kennedy Agyapong, with a loud mouth sitting here, I have one vote, and the polling station executives have one vote, your chairman has one vote, everybody has one vote,” he added.

Kennedy Agyapong will compete for the NPP’s flagbearer slot along with three other contenders, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh. The NPP has scheduled November 4, 2023, as the date for the party to elect a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the party’s leader.

Govt must compensate us directly – Mokola fire victims

Traders at the Makola Shopping Mall are calling on the government to make financial commitments directly to them, if any, but not through the managers of the market, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

The traders contend that if any relief package is handed to SSNIT for onward compensation, they will never receive it. Therefore, it must be made directly to them.

On October 20, parts of the Makola Shopping Mall were gutted by a late-night blaze, resulting in the destruction of about 200 makeshift structures and wares worth millions of Ghana cedis.

Some of the traders also complained of unfair treatment in times like this and called on the government to engage them directly this time around.

“The last time there was fire here, they didn’t pay us and I don’t know if someone is more Ghanaian than the other because others are paid and others are not paid and so if there is something that the government will want to give us, it should not pass through SSNIT because it will not get to us, it should come directly to us.”

  • Akosombo Dam Spillage: A looming food shortage expected in 2024 -MP for Pru East

Akosombo Dam Spillage: A looming food shortage expected in 2024 -MP for Pru East

The Member of Parliament for Pru East, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, has expressed concern about the possibility of a food shortage in Ghana in 2024. He raised this concern due to the flooding of communities along the bank of the Volta Lake caused by the lake’s bank being breached by excess water inflow. Flooding can lead to crop destruction and affect food production, potentially resulting in food shortages in the future.

In an interview with Citi FM on Monday, Dr. Donkor said, “The flooding is so severe, whole communities are under the lake. Health infrastructure, clinics, schools, etc. have all been flooded. And so there is not just the humanitarian end of it; there is also the medical, public health end of it, and the educational end of it. In my constituency, schools have had to shut down because they have been submerged.”

“What exacerbates the situation is that in Pru, Oti, Bono East, Savannah, and Northern, farmlands have also been flooded, so there is a possibility of a serious food inadequacy and food insecurity going forward next year [2024] because farmlands have been flooded and the crops have not survived.”

The flooding of communities along the Volta Lake in the Pru East District began as early as June and July 2023, but it had not received much attention or coverage. According to Dr. Kwabena Donkor, victims of the flooding have so far only received communal assistance, and there are concerns about the potential food shortage in 2024 due to the destruction of crops and the displacement of people in the affected communities. Over 2,500 people have been rendered homeless in nine communities in the Pru East District as a result of the Volta Lake breaking its banks.

“So far we have about over nine communities which are affected by the floods. These are Fanteakura, Birikente, Tokobikope, Accra Town, Kobre Nsuano, Who Are You, and many others.”

“And so now we have about 2554 people displaced, and these are the breakdowns. The males are 1,302 and the females are 1,252…we have relocated them to the highest grounds,” he stated.

The controlled spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams, initiated by the Volta River Authority (VRA) on September 15, 2023, due to rising water levels in the Akosombo reservoir, has resulted in the displacement of over 30,000 people in various communities in the Volta and Eastern regions.

Affected areas include South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and others, where homes have been submerged due to the spillage. The flooding and displacement have presented significant challenges to these communities.

  • 7 habits to avoid if you want to improve your speaking skills

7 habits to avoid if you want to improve your speaking skills

Improving your speaking skills is a valuable endeavor, whether for public speaking, professional presentations, or everyday communication. To enhance your speaking abilities, consider breaking these seven habits that can hinder your progress:

    1. Using Filler Words: Break the habit of using “um,” “uh,” “like,” “you know,” and other filler words. These vocal crutches can distract your audience and make you appear less confident. Practice pausing instead of using fillers to gather your thoughts.
    2. Speaking Too Quickly: Rapid speech can make you difficult to understand and diminish your impact. Slow down your speech to ensure clarity and allow your audience to absorb your message.
    3. Monotone Voice: Speaking in a monotone can bore your audience and make your message less engaging. Work on varying your pitch, tone, and speed to add energy and emphasis to your speech.
    4. Lack of Eye Contact: Avoiding eye contact can make you seem disconnected and untrustworthy. Maintain eye contact with your audience to build rapport and convey confidence.
    5. Rambling and Lack of Structure: Speaking without a clear structure can confuse your audience and dilute your message. Develop a logical structure for your speech, including an introduction, main points, and a conclusion.
    6. Not Practicing: Failure to rehearse your speech or presentation can lead to stumbling over words, losing your train of thought, or sounding unprepared. Practice multiple times to boost your confidence and fluency.
    7. Ignoring Nonverbal Communication: Your body language, gestures, and facial expressions play a significant role in effective communication. Be aware of how your nonverbal cues complement or contradict your spoken words.

Remember that improving your speaking skills is an ongoing process. It may take time and practice to break these habits and develop more effective communication skills. Seek feedback from others, consider taking public speaking courses, and record yourself to analyze your progress and make necessary improvements.

  • Brussel shooter has escaped from Tunisian jail

Brussel shooter has escaped from Tunisian jail

The person who was shooting at people was found at a cafe close to where he lives in Schaerbeek, in the northern part of Brussels, on Tuesday morning. The police shot and killed him.

“I really want to say sorry to the people who were hurt and their family members,” Mr Van Quickenborne said while announcing that he is stepping down. I don’t want to hear any reasons.

He said he wanted to be held accountable for this very bad mistake in his political position.

Brussels’ public prosecutor, Tim De Wolf, said that there were not enough staff in his office, which is why they did not respond to the extradition request.

He said that they received the extradition file in September of last year, and it was likely forgotten in a filing cabinet.

None of the coworkers involved can recall what happened to this particular file one year ago. “He said that no one has touched it. ”

The prosecutor did not say why Lassoued was put in jail, but news in Belgium says he was imprisoned for trying to kill two people.

The person who attacked had asked for protection and permission to stay in Norway, Sweden, Belgium, and Italy.

In 2016, the Italian intelligence services found out that he had become an extremist and began watching him closely.

It was also revealed that Lassoued had been in prison in Sweden for two years because he was involved in selling drugs. Swedish media reported that he got arrested in Malmo for having 100 grams (or 3. 5 ounces) of cocaine.
The attack in Brussels has made Sweden very surprised because it caused the death of two men, one in his 70s and the other in his 60s.

Maja, who lives in Brussels and has citizenship in both Sweden and Britain, says that this might be one of the first instances where Swedes have been singled out because of their nationality.

After some people in Sweden burned copies of the Quran, which is a holy book in Islam, the government is telling Swedish citizens that there is more danger to them now.

Books that are important to Muslims have been set on fire outside buildings like embassies, mosques, and the Swedish parliament.

This made Muslim countries very angry, and in August the terror warning level was increased to the second-highest level because of threats from Islamic extremists.

Maja said that she always thought having a Swedish passport was a good thing. “But things have really become different. ”

The Swedish Security Service, called Sapo, said they are working closely with the Belgian authorities.

The Belgian prosecutor is investigating the shooting as a terrorist attack. This incident occurred at a time when there are increased worries about security in Europe due to the Israel-Hamas war.

Belgium has decided to take additional safety precautions because of the attack that happened last week. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office, federal judicial police, and railway police will all receive more staff members.

The sharing of information between the immigration service, the police, and the judiciary will be increased.

Menzgold Saga: A Plus and Bullgod clash on live television

Entertainment pundit Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A Plus, engaged in a heated argument with the artist manager Bullgod on live television.

This dispute emerged in the wake of the confirmation that GH¢5 million had been allocated to the police for distribution.

During the United Showbiz Show on UTV, A Plus, who was displeased with the report, criticized NAM1 for not promptly repaying Menzgold customers, which led to some individuals losing their lives. He reiterated his belief that NAM1 had established a “criminal enterprise.”

Bullgod, who was a former artist and repertoire manager at Zylofon Music, a subsidiary of NAM1’s enterprises, refuted accusations that NAM1 is a thief and offered an alternative viewpoint.

According to Bullgod, NAM1 would not have taken steps to address the issues of Menzgold customers if he were a thief.

He also demanded that Kwame A Plus give NAM1 an apology for calling him a “thief” and making derogatory remarks about him in public.

This is the conversation that went on between them.

A Plus: Someone’s mother has died because of this money; look at what you’re saying. Get the hell out of here.

Bullgod: Did NAM1 kill the person?

A Plus: What would have happened in this country if you took people’s money for four years before paying?

Bullgod: It is the government of the day that disrupted the process, have you forgotten? So soon? Don’t come and sit here and say what you don’t know. You [A Plus] owe NAM1 an apology.

A Plus: You’re foolish and mad for saying that. You see the day you came from America with NAM1 and you came to tell us stories. See, you can’t do anything if we combine you and NAM1. Are you [Bullgod] NAM1? Did I talk to you?

Bullgod: You’re my friend, I won’t allow that to happen. You have to apologize to NAM1. Don’t talk about him, he hasn’t done anything wrong.

The CEO of the now-defunct Menzgold Company Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah delivered GH¢5 million in cash to the Ghana Police Service to initiate the payment process for its customers, as reported by 3news.com.

This development followed the company’s earlier announcement that it would begin paying out matured investments on Friday, October 20, 2023.

Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1, personally oversaw the handover of GH₵5 million to the Ghana Police Service, and this amount is intended to be distributed to customers who have followed the company’s protocols and validation processes during the settlement period.

Eligible customers were encouraged to adhere strictly to the provided dates during the completion of the necessary forms to ensure a smooth and efficient disbursement of their funds.
