Tensions high in London as result of Hamas attack in Israel

I recently listened to a briefing by Deputy Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor from the Metropolitan police that took place remotely.

He said that people in London were very anxious after the Hamas attack in Israel last Saturday.

Because of this, he stated that the police had implemented a very important plan to help and protect neighborhoods throughout the city.

Over 1000 officers have been assigned to this job.

The police office, called the Met, says that a lot of people are going to be at the protests in support of Palestine in London tomorrow.

Taylor said that while people can protest, they can’t encourage or cause violence.

He said that the law is very clear about flags and banners. Anyone who waves a flag supporting Hamas or other banned groups will be arrested.

He said if someone has or holds a Palestinian flag alone, it is not against the law. However, if they do other things along with it, they might be breaking the law.

Prioritize craft over hits – Rocky Dawuni advises musicians

Ghanaian singer and three-time Grammy nominee, Rocky Dawuni, has offered valuable advice to artists and songwriters. He suggests that they prioritize creating meaningful and well-crafted lyrics over simply aiming to produce hit songs.

Dawuni’s advice emphasizes the significance of longevity and the lasting impact of music. Hits may enjoy a moment in the spotlight, but their relevance can fade quickly. In contrast, music with thoughtful and meaningful lyrics has the potential to endure and connect with audiences on a deeper level, standing the test of time.

This perspective underscores the importance of artistic integrity and the power of music to transcend trends and leave a lasting impression.

“Focus on your craft and work on your lyrics. You can’t always be enamored by hits. Hits are today, and tomorrow are forgotten if [they don’t] have something really integral to the song,” he said in an interview on TV3 monitored

Rocky Dawuni’s emphasis on adopting a more holistic approach to songwriting is a valuable reminder for artists and songwriters. This approach involves not only focusing on creating catchy tunes but also on crafting lyrics and music that resonate with listeners on a meaningful and emotional level.

  • 5 Tips for a healthy weekend

5 Tips for a healthy weekend

Wondering how to become a weekend gym warrior? The kind that is motivated to work out even on a Saturday? It’s entirely possible. All you need are a few fun and creative tips for a healthy weekend.

Usually, by the time the weekend rolls around, most people just want to laze in bed, binge-watch some shows, and indulge in a delicious brunch. It’s an understandable urge—the week has taken its toll, and the body is craving some (much-deserved) rest and relaxation.

But getting yourself to the gym is another way to reward and re-energize your body after a long week. It might not be your first instinct on a Saturday morning, but a weekend workout session can help flush away the week’s tension and prepare you for whatever Monday has in store. Here are five helpful tips for a healthy weekend.

    1. Make It a Team Effort

Find a workout buddy and agree on a set time to meet up every weekend. Not only will you be held accountable, but you and your friend can help motivate and inspire each other during your workouts (and toast to your success over smoothies afterward).

    2. Find an Activity That You Look Forward To

Stop choosing your workouts based on how they’ll impact your physical appearance. Instead, find a routine that makes you feel good, inside and out. If strength training makes you miserable, don’t do it — maybe the treadmill is a better fit for you on the weekends.

Once you find something that you look forward to every week, it’ll be much easier to pull yourself out of bed and hit the gym.

    3. Invest in Good Workout Gear

Investing in workout attire can not only improve the quality of your exercises, but can also make you feel confident and inspired. You’re much more likely to wake up and head to the gym if you’re obsessed with your new running shoes and want to show them off to the world.

    4. Keep a Record of How You Feel After Working Out

Before the endorphins wear off, write down all the good things you’re feeling—physically, mentally, and emotionally—after a weekend sweat session. This log can serve as excellent motivation on those days when you’re feeling less than inspired to get out of the house and go to the gym.

You’ll soon realize that while you may sometimes regret not exercising, you never regret when you do.

    5. Don’t Pressure Yourself (Too Much)

It’s healthy to challenge yourself, but try to avoid creating hard and fast rules that put too much pressure on yourself. If you say, “I absolutely have to wake up at 8 a.m. to go for a run, and if I don’t, I am lazy and useless,” you’ll likely end up disappointed and frustrated. Instead, set more attainable goals. Saying something like, “This weekend, I will go for a run,” establishes your intent but this way you put less pressure on yourself.

With these tips, you can officially join the ranks of weekend warriors. As always, please consult with a physician prior to beginning any exercise program. See full medical disclaimer here.

  • Ofori Amponsah initially wrote the song ‘Odwo’ for Kofi Nti -Samini

Ofori Amponsah initially wrote the song ‘Odwo’ for Kofi Nti -Samini

Ghanaian musician Samini shared the story behind the recording of the hit song ‘Odwo’ with highlife legend Ofori Amponsah in 2006. He revealed that Ofori Amponsah initially wrote the song for highlife artist Akufo-Addo lauds Pat Thomas for globalizing Ghanaian music

However, the story took a different turn when Ofori Amponsah met Samini at the recording studio of renowned German producer and musician Bodo Staiger in Germany. At that moment, Ofori Amponsah decided to feature Samini in the song, ultimately creating a memorable collaboration.

In an interview with Hitz FM Samini said ” We were in Germany for the World Cup in 2006 and Ofori said he wanted to record a song with me.

Initially, he had written the song for Kofi Nti. But when we ended up in Bodo Staiger’s studio, he pleaded with Kofi Nti. He told him he will write another song for him, but he wanted to rather do it with me,” Samini said

He said the German producer was behind many hit songs in Ghana by Daddy Lumba, Daasebre Gyamenah and others thus knew their song will also be a hit.

“The first part of my song was freestyle, but I returned the following day to retake it and that is how we made the magic. You could tell I was very happy around that time so the song came to me easily. if you do music too rigid sometimes it won’t work,” Samini added.

Foreign minister of Germany visits Egypt

Today, the German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, will go to Cairo. She will have a conversation about the difficult situation for people in Gaza. Her journey is expected to end later in the day.

Baerbock mentioned that she is discussing with Egypt and the United Nations about creating safe areas in Gaza for regular people. This is important because the Israeli army told over one million civilians to relocate to the south as they expected a ground attack.

Egypt is in charge of the Rafah crossing, which is the only way to get into or out of the enclave.

  • Hamas continue to attack Israel with rockets

Hamas continue to attack Israel with rockets

The group announced that they launched a missile towards Safed, a city located in the northern part of Israel. The spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces, Daniel Hagari, said on Twitter that they stopped a missile from Gaza heading towards the northern area, without specifically mentioning Safed.

Loud alarms went off in Tel Aviv after Hamas attacked the city by the sea.

Hamas said it shot more rockets at towns in the south of Israel, including Ashkelon, Sderot, and Be’eri. These towns were targeted by Hamas militants and resulted in the death of 1,300 civilians in last Saturday’s attack.

The militant group has been shooting many rockets at places where regular people live in Israel since they started fighting back.

  • Putin prepared to profit from conflict in Gaza

Putin prepared to profit from conflict in Gaza

It’s easy to imagine Vladimir Putin as a bad guy from a James Bond movie. Like sitting at a big control panel in a hidden mountain place, causing trouble all over the world.

He pushes a button and there is trouble in the Balkans.

When he pushes the button, a powerful explosion happens in the Middle East.

It might seem attractive, but it’s likely not correct. It makes the leader of the Kremlin seem more powerful around the world than they actually are.

Russia is connected to Hamas and has become a strong friend of Iran. The US says that Moscow and Teheran are now working together defensively.

However, this does not mean that Moscow was directly involved in or knew beforehand about the Hamas attack on Israel.

Hanna Notte, an expert on Russia and the Middle East, based in Berlin at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, says that she has not seen any proof of Russia directly giving weapons to Hamas or training members of Hamas in military tactics.

Russia and Hamas have been connected for a long time. Russia has never officially announced that they consider Hamas to be a terrorist organization. Hamas teams went to Moscow both last year and this year.

But I wouldn’t assume from that information that there has been a lot of military help. Despite knowing that Russian-made systems have entered the Gaza strip, most likely through the Sinai area in Egypt and with help from Iran.

Basically, President Putin did not start a war in the Middle East by pressing a specific button.

But is he prepared to make use of the opportunity.

DefinitelyAnd this is how it’s done.

    Loss of focus from Ukraine

With the increase in violence in the Middle East being the main focus of international news, Moscow is hoping that attention will be shifted to dramatic headlines from Israel instead of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

But this is about more than just shifting the focus of news for a short period of time. The Russian government wants Western countries to send fewer weapons to Ukraine and instead, send them to Israel due to their interests in the situation in the Middle East.

“I think this crisis will directly affect the progress of the special military operation in Ukraine,” stated Russian diplomat Konstantin Gavrilov in an interview with the pro-Kremlin Izvestia newspaper.

The conflict in Israel will cause Ukraine’s supporters to lose focus. This doesn’t mean that the West will stop supporting Ukrainians. However, the amount of assistance from the military will decrease, and Russia could gain an advantage in the operation.

Is it possible that Russia is being overly optimistic in their thoughts.

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the United States will support and be there for both Israel and Ukraine.

However, if there is a long-lasting conflict in the Middle East, it will be a challenge for America to provide support to two different allies involved in two separate wars at the same time.

Can Russia help solve the problem.

Russia wants to increase its importance in the Middle East by presenting itself as someone who can help bring peace.

It has done this job in the past, by participating in previous global attempts to stop the fighting in the area.

“Russia is able and will take part in finding a solution to the conflict,” stated Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for President Putin. “We are keeping in touch with both parties involved in the dispute. ”

During his visit to Moscow this week, Iraq’s prime minister asked President Putin to propose a plan for a genuine peace agreement in the area.

Can we really believe that Russia is a peacemaker. It’s difficult to convince people of that.

This is the country that attacked its neighbor with a large military force. For almost 20 months, the war that Russia has been fighting in Ukraine has resulted in a large number of deaths and a lot of damage to the country. This has surprised people all around the globe.

Additionally, just because you claim that you are able and willing to help achieve peace, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the people who are in the conflict will agree to have you as a mediator.

Moscow has always been interested in the Middle East. During the time when Israel and the US became close, the Soviet Union supported the Arab countries in the region. For many years, the Soviet Union promoted hatred towards Jewish people.

After the Soviet empire was no more, Russia’s relationship with Israel got better. This happened partly because over a million Jews from the countries that used to be part of the Soviet Union moved to Israel.

Recently, Vladimir Putin’s Russia has become closer to Israel’s enemies, especially Iran. This has caused tension in Russian-Israeli relations.

    Criticizing America

The Kremlin sees a chance to do what it often does – blaming America.

Since the Hamas attack on Israel, Vladimir Putin has been saying that it shows the United States’ policy in the Middle East has failed.

It follows the usual pattern of Moscow criticizing what it sees as American dominance.

The Kremlin is trying to make Russia look better in the Middle East by blaming America, which hurts the reputation of the United States.

I have already discussed how Russia could gain advantages from what is happening in the Middle East. But also, there are things that can harm you.

Hanna Notte believes that Russia benefits from carefully planned and controlled instability.

“If this crisis takes away focus from Ukraine, which may happen because Israel is significant in the US domestic politics, then Russia might benefit temporarily. ”

Russia does not want a war that involves the wider area, including Iran, because Iran supports Hamas with weapons and money, according to Ms.

Russia does not want a big war to happen between Israel and Iran. If things go in that direction and it becomes clear that America strongly supports Israel, I believe Russia will have no option but to align more with Iran. I don’t think it wants to.

I believe Putin still values his connections with Israel. I believe that Russian diplomacy does not want to enter a situation where they have to choose one side over the other. But as this conflict gets worse, they might start to feel more stressed.

  • My record label has control over songs I release – Kuami Eugene

My record label has control over songs I release – Kuami Eugene

Award-winning Highlife artiste Kuami Eugene recently revealed that he no longer has control over the release of his songs, as this authority now resides exclusively with his current record label.

In an interview on TV3 X Spaces with Berla Mundi, he clarified that the decision on when his music is released is entirely in the hands of his management team.

While Kuami Eugene acknowledged the benefits of this arrangement, which involves delegating various tasks to teams within the label, he expressed some lamentation over not having direct control over major decisions regarding his songs.

This shift in control is a common aspect of record label contracts, where the label takes on the responsibility of managing an artist’s career, including the release and promotion of their music.

“It’s sweet because what the record label does is they get together a bunch of people who do the work for you so they make the work easy in some ways but creative-wise, you can be the most creative person on earth if it doesn’t sit well with one strong person who has that much power or that amount of power when it comes to decision-making; it’s just another job.

“Sometimes you have plans for a song to be released tomorrow but then you get told it will be moved to next week.. So it’s not all sugar and honey all the time,” he said.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of a crime related to being in charge of a gang or group, after investigators searched a farm in Nottinghamshire.

The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) said that they, along with Nottinghamshire Police and Immigration Enforcement, carried out a raid in Calverton on Thursday.

Police arrested a man from Belgium who is 41 years old. They believe he was working as a gangmaster without the proper license.

The GLAA said that the suspect was let go on bail until December.

The GLAA also searched houses in Lowdham and Nottingham.

A gangmaster is someone who hires people to work on farms doing jobs related to agriculture, horticulture, and dairy farming.

People running gangs need to get permission from the GLAA before they can hire workers.

Foods you should avoid if you have kidney-related issues

If you have kidney-related issues, it’s crucial to be mindful of your diet to support kidney function and prevent further damage. Here are some foods you should limit or avoid:

    1. High-Sodium Foods: Excessive sodium can raise blood pressure and strain the kidneys. Avoid or limit foods like processed and fast foods, canned soups, pickles, and salty snacks.
    2. High-Potassium Foods: In kidney disease, potassium levels can become too high. Foods like bananas, oranges, potatoes, tomatoes, and spinach are high in potassium and should be limited.
    3. High-Phosphorus Foods: Excess phosphorus can harm the kidneys. Foods like dairy products, nuts, seeds, and cola drinks are high in phosphorus and should be controlled.
    4. Red and Processed Meats: These are high in protein and can increase the workload on the kidneys. Consider lean protein sources like poultry, fish, and plant-based proteins.
    5. High-Sugar Foods: Sugary foods and drinks can contribute to weight gain and diabetes, which can stress the kidneys. Limit sugary snacks and beverages.

Teacher stabbed to death in French school

A teacher was murdered and two people were badly hurt in a stabbing incident at a school in France, according to authorities.

The attack occurred at the Gambetta high school in Arras at around 11:00 AM. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin shared this information.

The person who attacked someone has been caught and is now under control of the authorities.

According to people who saw it happen, he yelled “Allahu Akbar”, which means “God is greatest”, while carrying out the attack.

The teacher who was killed was someone who taught the French language. Two other people who were hurt were a teacher and a security guard.

The police say that the guy, who is in his 20s, is from Chechnya and is involved in radical Islam. The security services already know about him.

According to French media, he used to go to the school.

The French authorities are investigating an attack for possible links to terrorism. They are looking into charges of murder and attempted murder connected to a terrorist group.

News channel BFMTV says that the police have also caught the attacker’s brother.

The police say everything is okay now.

French President Emmanuel Macron will go to the school later today, while the National Assembly in Paris has stopped its meeting to support the victims.

The attack happened during a time when there was more conflict between the Muslim and Jewish communities in France. This conflict was because of the fighting between Israel and Hamas.

But the police say there is no evidence connecting it to the Middle East.

The attack happened almost three years after another teacher, Samuel Paty, was killed and had his head cut off at his school in a place near Paris.

The person who committed the attack was a young man named Abdullakh Anzorov. He was 18 years old and came from Russia. He was also a Muslim and had sought refuge in another country. The police quickly responded to the attack and shot and killed him.

  • Steve Scalise withdraws from the race for US Speaker

Steve Scalise withdraws from the race for US Speaker

Republican congressman Steve Scalise has decided not to run for the position of Speaker of the US House of Representatives, only a day after his party selected him for the role.

Mr Scalise, who is 58 years old, had a hard time getting enough votes to have more than half of the total votes in the chamber.

The news was shared after a sudden gathering of Republicans in the House of Representatives on Thursday.

It is not clear who the party will choose for the position.

Mr Scalise told reporters after the meeting that everyone should set aside their own plans and concentrate on what our country needs.

This group of people called the House of Representatives needs someone to be the Speaker, and we also need to start having meetings again. But obviously, not everyone is present. “And there are still divisions that need to be resolved,” he said.

Even though Mr. Scalise won against his right-wing opponent Jim Jordan in a secret vote on Wednesday, he is now facing more disagreement from ordinary members of the Republican party.

On Thursday, attempts to convince enough people to vote for him and make him the Speaker were not successful.

In his speech, Mr. Scalise admitted that it was not going to occur.

Some people who said they were okay with me three days ago, were changing their expectations and inventing reasons to not be okay with me now. “He said it was unrelated to anything. ” “See, people were playing games and I decided not to join. ”

Mr Scalise was seen as a more traditional candidate compared to Mr Jordan. He climbed the ranks in the Republican party, becoming known for being good at making laws and raising money.

The House of Representatives cannot pass any laws or approve emergency aid for Israel until they choose a Speaker.

Also, this means that Congress cannot approve any money bills that would let the government prevent a possible shutdown in mid-November.

House Republicans had made many suggestions to stop the problems on Capitol Hill, but this was before Mr Scalise decided not to participate in the race.

One possible solution is to temporarily give Patrick McHenry, the acting speaker of the House, more authority. This would help the chamber to operate and most importantly, prevent a government shutdown.

But in order to do that, the Democrats would need to work together. On Thursday, lawmakers had different opinions about whether the move would be a practical solution.

Another possibility is for Democrats to work with Republicans to choose a candidate that everyone agrees on and that they can elect successfully.

Some Democrats said that a few Republicans might vote for Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to become Speaker. But many people in Capitol Hill think that it is unlikely to happen.

The Speaker job has been empty for 10 days because Kevin McCarthy was removed by strict Republicans who opposed him for making a deal with Senate Democrats to financially support government agencies.

A lot of those same lawmakers didn’t vote against Mr. Scalise on Wednesday and Thursday.

After the announcement, some lawmakers said they wanted Mr. Jordan to become the nominee because he had supported Mr. Scalise before the vote on Wednesday.

But Jordan also has a difficult task of getting all the Republicans to support him. One lawmaker, Ann Wagner, said that Mr. Scalise was not happy with Mr. Jordan’s recent actions. She even said that his actions were so rude that it shocked everyone in the room.

When someone asked if he would support Mr. Jordan after he quit the race, Mr. Scalise replied directly that he wanted people who weren’t just thinking about themselves and their own benefits.

Mr McCarthy said that House Republicans need to think about their issues, find solutions, and choose a leader.

Ethiopia dismisses UN’s ‘reckless’ genocide warning

The Ethiopian government called the statement by the UN’s special adviser on the prevention of genocide “irresponsible and reckless” and does not agree with it.

Alice Wairimu Nderitu said on Tuesday that there is a greater chance of a genocide happening in Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian government is sorry that a UN adviser made a statement about the situation in Ethiopia that was not responsible or careful. Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared this on Facebook as a response.

“It said that the special adviser used the International Commission of Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia [I CHREE] to make harmful comments about Ethiopia. “

I CHREE was created by the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2021 to look in to claims of wrongdoing in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. In September, a report was published that detailed crimes committed by every one involved in the two-year conflict, which ended in November.

Another report said that there were still ongoing serious violations happening in Tigray and other parts of Ethiopia.

Global human rights groups wanted I CHREE to keep investigating and expand its work, but the time to extend its authority ran out last week.

I don’t have any problem with Joyce Blessing – Piesie Esther

Gospel musician Piesie Esther has clarified that there is no animosity between her and her colleague, Joyce Blessing, despite rumors of a feud between them.

She affirmed that her relationship with Joyce Blessing remains intact, even though there were reports suggesting a grudge between them after allegations of sabotage became public.

Piesie Esther acknowledged that she had heard criticisms from some individuals in the public domain regarding the release of her song. However, she remains unfazed by these accusations.

The speculation about tension between Piesie Esther and Joyce Blessing emerged after the release of Piesie Esther’s ‘Waye Me Yie’ song coincided with a release from Joyce Blessing, and the timing seemingly overshadowed the latter’s song.

Many believed that Joyce Blessing was upset about the timing of Piesie Esther’s song release, which had an impact on her marketing efforts. Despite this, Piesie Esther maintains that their relationship is strong.

“I don’t have any issue with Joyce [Blessing]. There is no competition anywhere. The work is a lot so we help in our own ways. Even Paul said that ‘the harvest is plenty but the laborers are few.’ The work God has given us is a lot so we are doing our best to glorify him.

“As for me, I don’t have any problem with her [Joyce Blessing] and there is no way we will begrudge because of this. She understands the work God has given her. I have heard a lot about this issue since it came up but I’m fine with Joyce so we are very okay,” Piesie Esther said while speaking in an interview with Adom FM.

United States student admits to threatening politician

A student from a college in the US admitted to threatening to kill Republican congressman Matt Gaetz.

Allan Poller, who is 24 years old, confessed that he left a voicemail with offensive words for the lawmaker on March 29th.

Poller warned that if there continued to be attacks on the LGBTQ+ community, they would retaliate. We will end your life if necessary.

Based on the agreement, the student made the call because they were feeling upset and drunk while watching videos on TikTok.

Poller, who is a student at Keene State College in New Hampshire, was charged with a federal crime for sending a threatening message across state lines.

Although Mr Gaetz’s name was not mentioned in court documents, his office informed US media that he was the target of the threat.

Someone who is knowledgeable about the investigation told CBS News, which is a partner of the BBC in the US, that Mr. Gaetz, a member of Congress, was the one being focused on.

In recent years, politicians in different states have experienced more harassment and received more threats.

According to court papers, the offense can result in a maximum of five years in jail, but the government is suggesting a three-year probation instead.

Poller was initially accused of two things, but one was taken out of the charges as part of an agreement.

The BBC has asked a lawyer representing Poller and reached out to Mr Gaetz’s office for their comments.

In a statement to CNN, Poller’s lawyer Jesse Friedman said that his client understands that hate in any shape or form is not right and causes harm.

MrFriedman said that he takes responsibility for what he did and he didn’t mean to harm or threaten anyone.

Poller called Mr. Gaetz’s office but nobody answered, so they left a voicemail message. The rude message said that the Florida lawmaker would be shot in the head.

“And if you choose to continue on that same direction, you already know who will be following. ”

Poller will be punished in January.

Judge in Senegal issues order to reinstate Sonko on voter list

After a court meeting on Thursday, a judge decided that the imprisoned Senegalese leader, Ousmane Sonko, should be put back on the list of people eligible to vote.
He was accused of behaving badly towards someone under 21, but he said it wasn’t true and that the accusation was made for political reasons.

Mr Sonko’s lawyers stated that the judge’s decision on Thursday allowed him to participate in the upcoming presidential elections in February. But, it has not been confirmed.

In a statement released on Friday, lawyers for the government said they will challenge the decision.

The court hearing happened in Ziguinchor, a city in the south where Mr Sonko is both on the voters’ list and serves as the mayor.

The punishment he received for “influencing young people in a wrong way” caused angry demonstrations in a very peaceful country in Africa. Officials reported that at least 16 people lost their lives and hundreds of others were injured.

In the end of July, the leader of the opposing group was put in jail for new accusations: urging for a rebellion, being involved in a harmful plan with a group of terrorists, and putting the safety of the country at risk.

Mr Sonko, who used to work for the government, became well-known during the presidential election in 2019. He finished in third place.

An upset woman in a viral video that has circulated on social media has taken an unusual and dramatic step to express her frustration with her husband’s refusal to purchase an expensive wig for her. This incident has sparked significant reactions online.

The video captured a heated argument between the couple, with the wife expressing her dissatisfaction over her husband’s denial of her request for a high-end wig. In a rather unexpected act of protest, she decided to soak their matrimonial bed with water.

During the argument, the wife contended that, since her friends possess a collection of luxury wigs, her husband should also provide her with at least one.

Her reasoning was that if she couldn’t have her desired wig, then neither should they find peace in their shared bed. The act of soaking the bed, symbolizing their marital union, served as a vivid demonstration of her discontent.

This private incident has now become a subject of public discussion, with the video widely shared on social media. The couple involved has not issued any public statement regarding the incident.

The video has triggered a variety of reactions, with social media users offering their opinions on the wife’s actions and the husband’s refusal. This incident has contributed to a broader conversation about marital expectations.

  • UK looks into using Russian equipment for Ukraine’s defence

UK looks into using Russian equipment for Ukraine’s defence

The government wants the Bank of England to find ways to use Russian assets to help pay for Ukraine’s war, according to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt in an interview with the BBC.

Mr Hunt said that finance ministers from various countries have talked about finding additional methods, other than sanctions, to interfere with Russia’s capability to finance the war.

“Mr Hunt said that this war is not allowed or lawful. ”

We must do everything possible to stop Russia from giving money to it.

Mr Hunt talked to the BBC at the IMF’s yearly conference in Marrakech and said that finance ministers from the G7, which are the biggest economies in the world, talked about whether Ukraine’s defense could be funded by using Russia’s government-owned properties.

“He said that we should do whatever it takes to make sure Putin understands that he won’t be able to continue being aggressive because it will cost him too much. ”

The G7 group announced on Thursday that they will look into how to tax profits from Russian assets that have been taken in order to help Ukraine. They will do this while following the relevant laws.

In September, the US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Mr. Hunt showed that they agreed with a European Union idea to tax the extra money gained from the profits of Russian assets that have been kept locked.

Earlier this year, the US considered using their own resources to help financially support Ukraine’s defense. However, they later concluded that this would not be allowed by law.

On Friday, Mr. Hunt said that Britain will always follow the rules, but the G7 group has requested central banks to explore any options because we strongly believe that this war is against the law of the world.

The chancellor said that the war in Ukraine was taking longer to resolve than people wanted, and that the world needs to prevent getting tired of dealing with Ukraine’s situation.

He said, “We need to be honest and tell people that it will take a while. So, for now, we must be careful and cautious in how we handle the British economy. ”

The European Union and the US are trying to find better ways to use money that Russia cannot access and make the punishments against Russia work better.

On Thursday, the US government punished two companies for breaking a limit on the cost of Russian oil.

Several countries, such as the US, the G7, the European Union, and Australia, joined forces to limit Russia’s crude oil prices at $60 per barrel. This was done in order to restrict Russia’s ability to continue its war against Ukraine.

The US discovered that a ship owned by Turkey’s Ice Pearl Navigation Corp and a tanker owned by Lumber Marine of the United Arab Emirates sold crude oil for $80 and $75 per barrel, respectively.

The US Treasury has prevented the companies from buying or owning property in the US.

The oil prices increased on Friday because sanctions were made stricter.

The price of West Texas Intermediate also went up by 3. 6% to $8658

  • Three methods to put an end to uncertainty surrounding US Republican Speaker

Three methods to put an end to uncertainty surrounding US Republican Speaker

One day after being selected as the Republican party‘s choice to be Speaker of the House of Representatives, Steve Scalise has decided not to continue in the competition. What is happening currently.

After defeating a conservative politician named Jim Jordan to gain the support of his political party, Mr. Scalise saw his support decrease rapidly on Thursday.

Even after a whole day of convincing people on Capitol Hill, he still didn’t have enough support from the majority in the House. He told reporters that it was not going to happen.

He stepped down, and there is no definite person to take his place, so there is still a gap in leadership at the top of the US government.

It has been 10 days since the Speaker’s chair was left empty, stopping the lower chamber of Congress from doing its most important tasks.

    The obstacles for Scalise.
His attempt to become Speaker was troubled by the same problems that troubled former Speaker Kevin McCarthy before he was removed from power last week.

The Republican party has control over the House, but they have only a small advantage in terms of numbers.

To win a floor vote, Mr. Scalise needed 217 out of 221 Republican representatives (House members) to vote for him. Only a few rebels were enough to ruin his hopes of becoming a leader.

The people who did not agree with the decision gave different reasons. Some disagreed with the policies, while others just didn’t want to support what some people called “the current situation. ”

The ways to get out of a place 1. One more Republican gets 217 votes.

After Scalise withdrew, some people in Congress and those who watch Capitol Hill said that Mr. Jordan might have a chance to become the new nominee.

It is not clear if Mr. Jordan can get enough votes. In the private vote where Mr. Scalise was chosen as the candidate, Mr. Jordan got 99 votes while Mr. Scalise got 113 votes.

At that time, some Representatives were hesitant to vote for Mr. He is a very conservative person supported by former President Donald Trump.

More names might be suggested in the next few days. Meanwhile, some Representatives have expressed that they are confused or unsure about something.

“I don’t have any idea at all,” Mark Alford from Missouri told NBC.

We’re like a boat that can’t steer at the moment. And I’m very unhappy with how things turned out. And I hope that we discover something with the help of God. 2. Someone who speaks for a short period of time

Another idea suggests that Patrick McHenry, who is currently acting as Speaker of the House, would be given more authority for a certain amount of time.

This would let the House work properly and prevent the government from stopping in a month, while they find a more permanent solution. Democrats would need to work together to figure out the specifics.

Ohio Representative James Joyce said that it is crucial for us to focus on managing the affairs of our country again.

However, some lawmakers are against finding a temporary solution.

I believe that a. (rest of the sentence needed to complete the rewrite) “I don’t think members are interested in caretaker, and I agree with that. ”

He said that he thinks a speaker who is only there for a short time would not do a good job while negotiations on the budget and other things are still happening.  3: Democrats are coming to help.

Another choice that Republicans could consider is to come to an agreement with Democrats on a candidate that both parties can support.

This choice would involve giving in to some demands of the smaller group. Democrats want to get rid of a new rule that was put in place in January. This rule allows any member to bring a vote to the floor in order to remove the Speaker.

Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said on Thursday that we are ready, willing, and able to find agreement that both political parties can support. But he said it needs Republican partners.

This means working together to open up the government again so that the needs of the American people can be met. And making new rules that were introduced in January that give more power to their most extreme members.

A few politicians, like Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes, have said that five Republicans might change their minds and support Mr Jeffries as Speaker.

It is unclear if regular Republicans will support this, but it is highly unlikely.

There might be a car accident.

There is a job opening for a very important position in the US government, and it has happened at an unfortunate time.

If there is no speaker, the chamber can’t pass any bills or approve requests for emergency aid from the White House. This means providing support to Israel as they continue to fight with Hamas.

When there is no leader in the House, it means that Congress cannot pass any bills that would help the government avoid a shutdown in November.

On Thursday, some people in the House said it is unlikely that we will find a solution until early next week.

It is still not clear about what it actually looks like.

  • Samini blasts govt, labels National Cathedral as a misplaced priority

Samini blasts govt, labels National Cathedral as a misplaced priority

Reggae/Dancehall artiste Samini has expressed his concerns about the government’s decision to construct the National Cathedral, especially given the current economic challenges facing the people of Ghana.

He has raised the point that building the National Cathedral seems like a misplaced priority when the nation is grappling with economic difficulties and striving to address the needs of its citizens. Samini emphasized that it would be more prudent for the government to allocate the funds to other sectors of the economy, which could help alleviate the prevailing economic hardships faced by the people and bring smiles to their faces.

During an interview with Hitz FM on Thursday, October 13, 2023, Samini passionately expressed his disapproval of the government’s decision to build the National Cathedral, arguing that it is unnecessary because there are already numerous synagogues in the country. His comments highlight a larger public debate about the allocation of resources and priorities in the face of economic challenges.

“I was disappointed. I think it’s a misplaced priority in these times for any developing country to even buy into. If their leader should say, let’s build a synagogue and go and worship God.

“Today, everything is so smart that people would listen to a podcast at home as their Sunday church rather than get up and go anywhere,” he said when quizzed on what he makes of the government’s decision to build the National Cathedral.

Samini urged the government to redirect the nation’s resources towards agriculture and other key sectors of the economy. He emphasized that this shift in focus could enhance production and play a significant role in addressing the prevailing economic challenges.

“So that big building [National Cathedral] idea is obsolete. That same structure and the amount of resources needed to put that structure up can be channeled into different sectors and we will be smiling.

“Agriculture alone would turn around if that amount of money is pumped there. Some say we have a lot of churches in our neighborhood. I imagine if all these churches were anymore, we don’t need anymore.”

The government has decided to suspend the National Cathedral project due to financial difficulties. This decision has come under criticism from some public figures who argue that undertaking such a project during a period of economic challenges is not a prudent course of action.

2023 Taabea Ghana Music Awards UK: “Let us encourage our musicians” – CEO Of Taabea Group

The 2023 Taabea Ghana Music Awards UK, which took place at the prestigious Royal Regency in London on October 7, was a night to remember, celebrating and honoring the musical talents of Ghana.

The Dancehall sensation Shatta Wale emerged as the standout winner of the night, securing all five awards for which he was nominated. These accolades included the highly prestigious Artiste of the Year and Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year. His chart-topping hit, “On God,” also earned him titles for Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year and Most Popular Song of the Year.

Furthermore, Shatta Wale’s dedicated fanbase, the Shatta Movement, was acknowledged with the Most Dominant Fanbase of the Year award, underscoring his role not only as an artist but as a unifying figure among his supporters.

Following the awards ceremony, a considerable amount of discussion has unfolded online, with some netizens expressing the view that Shatta Wale may not have done enough to deserve the most prestigious award of the night, ‘Artiste of the Year.’

Amidst these reactions, the CEO of Taabea Group of Companies, Dr. Christian Kwasi Agyeman, has released a video message calling for calm.

In the video, shared by renowned media personality Sammy Flex, Dr. Agyeman offered his warmest congratulations to Shatta Wale for winning the coveted Artiste of the Year award. He applauded not only Shatta Wale but also all the artists who received awards or nominations, recognizing their dedication and talent in representing Ghana on the global stage.

However, Dr. Agyeman’s message took on a more serious tone when he addressed the criticisms circulating on social media platforms, encouraging a measured and respectful discourse around the awards and the recognition of Ghana’s musical talents.

Dr. Agyeman also called upon the media and the public to exercise greater consideration in their comments and critiques of musicians, highlighting the significant value these artists bring to the nation.

He emphasized that negative commentaries, particularly on social media, have the potential to demoralize these artists, eroding their enthusiasm to create and perform. Dr. Agyeman encouraged everyone to show support and uplift Ghanaian musicians, recognizing their pivotal role in shaping the country’s cultural identity and enhancing its global reputation.

As he looked to the future, Dr. Agyeman expressed optimism regarding the upcoming editions of the Taabea Ghana Music Awards UK. He announced plans to increase investment in the 2024 edition, promising a more extravagant celebration of Ghanaian musical talent. This commitment reflects his dedication to the continued recognition and promotion of the country’s musical artists on the international stage.

  • Pro-Palestinian demonstration disbands following French ban

Pro-Palestinian demonstration disbands following French ban

The police in the middle of Paris used a type of gas that makes people’s eyes and noses hurt and machines that shoot water to stop a rally in support of Palestine. The French government had said that these types of rallies were not allowed.

The Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin, stated that people who refuse to follow the rule should be taken into custody because “they could cause problems with how the public behaves. ”

Even though it was not allowed, many people gathered to protest in Paris, Lille, Bordeaux, and other cities on Thursday.

President Emmanuel Macron asked people not to create conflicts within the country.

“He said in a video message that the shield of unity will keep us safe from hate and going too far. ”

European governments have prohibited pro-Palestinian gatherings because they are concerned about an increase in hatred towards Jewish people caused by the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

After a few hours, the police arrested 10 people and used water cannons to break up a large protest in Paris at a place called Place de la République. The protesters were shouting “Israel murderer” and “Palestine will win” while waving flags from Palestine. 10 more people were taken into custody at another protest in Lille.

Groups supporting Palestinian rights said the ban might harm freedom of speech and promised to keep protesting for the Palestinian people.

Charlotte Vautier, who went to the rally, told Reuters that in our country, we have the freedom to speak out and protest because we have laws to protect our rights.

“It’s not fair to forbid something for one side and allow it for the other. ”

At the same time, the police in Berlin, the capital of Germany, have forbidden planned demonstrations supporting Palestine because they fear there might be anti-Semitic remarks and the promotion of violent acts.

The police asked about 60 protesters to go away from Potsdamer Platz on Thursday and they did.

In a video message, President Macron asked the French people to stay together and not let differences within the country create more problems in the global stage.

He said Hamas is a group that wants to kill people in Israel and is considered a terrorist organization.

On Saturday, Hamas attacked Israel and sadly, 13 French citizens were killed in the attack.

President Macron said that 17 French people are missing and are probably being held captive by Hamas in Gaza. He also said that France is doing everything possible, along with Israel and other countries, to bring them back home.

    Four kids are missing.

Israel, according to what he said, has the ability to protect itself by getting rid of terrorists. However, it is important for Israel to make sure that innocent people are not harmed because this is something that democratic countries should prioritize.

France has the biggest Jewish community in Europe, with almost 500,000 members. France has a big Muslim community, which is one of the largest in Europe. It is believed that there are around five million Muslims in the country.

On Thursday,Darmanin said that it is important to have police officers visibly present to protect Jewish schools and synagogues.

He said on a French radio show that since Saturday, they had documented 100 acts of anti-Semitism. These acts mostly included graffiti with symbols like the swastika and messages like “death to Jews” and calls for intifadas against Israel.

Some people were caught trying to bring knives into schools and synagogues and they got arrested.

French police are already protecting the houses of important MPs. National Assembly President Yaël Braun-Pivet and MP Meyer Habib, who are both Jewish, have been given extra security measures.

It was found out that Ms Braun-Pivet, who is part of Mr Macron’s Renaissance party, has been getting death threats.

This week, she made the parliament’s lights look like the Israeli flag and asked for a moment of silence before a meeting on Tuesday.

MsBraun-Pivet said that Maryam Abu Daqqa, who is a member of a political group called the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, will not be allowed to go to a movie showing in parliament next month. The EU considers the militant organisation to be a terrorist group.

Meyer Habib is a representative for French citizens living outside of France, including those in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. He strongly supports Israel and speaks out in favor of it. He said that after the Hamas attack, we are seeing the recurrence of pogroms.

The Hamas attack and its consequences have caused division in French politics.

Many parties have criticized the “terrorist attack” that happened on Saturday and have shown support for Israel’s right to retaliate. However, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s far-left La France Insoumise (France Unbowed) party had a less clear response.

The party called the Hamas attack a “violent attack by Palestinian forces”, which made other parties, including left-wing allies like the Socialist and Communist parties, very upset.
Germany’s leader Olaf Scholz has said that he will not accept any form of anti-Semitism.

He informed the parliament that a pro-Palestinian group called Samidoun, who were seen distributing candies in the Neukölln region of Berlin to mark the Hamas attack, will be prohibited. He said that we will not accept or allow antisemitism.

MrSholz told members of the German parliament that Germany considers Israel’s security as an important part of its policies. The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock plans to visit Israel on Friday to show support and unity.

German authorities have reported that in various towns, like Mainz, Braunschweig, and Heilbronn, Israeli flags raised as a support gesture were pulled down and ruined, often within a short time.

“We will beat you for saying we are worth 40 cedis and a kalyppo” – Keche threatens Pappy Kojo

The Ghanaian music duo, widely recognized in the entertainment industry as ‘Keche,‘ consisting of Joshua Kojo Ampah and Andrew Kofi Cudjoe, have issued a strong warning to their fellow musician, John Gaise, known as Pappy Kojo.

Pappy Kojo has persistently been a source of irritation for Keche, frequently making disparaging remarks about them.

In his latest taunt, he referred to the duo as being worth just 40 cedis and a kalyppo when it comes to bookings.

This has clearly provoked the Ghanaian musicians, and during a recent appearance on the ‘Hammer Time’ entertainment program on Kumasi-based Pure FM, Keche vehemently asserted their readiness to engage in a physical altercation with Pappy Kojo whenever they come across him.

“He’s a madman. A very mad one. We will beat him up on any day. He should try us.

“I do not want to hear his name but he should dare us and see. We will beat him. He’s a very madman.”

“You, Yvonne Nelson made you, yet when he had a misunderstanding with a colleague, you are the one insulting her and playing her diss song on your shows. Are you okay?…

“He’s a mad man and I will beat him. I will break his mouth anywhere I see him. He’s a criminal,” Keche told the host, Hammer Nti.

Keche (often called The Skill Team) is a Ghanaian duo formed in 2004.

The duo catapulted to stardom with their inaugural album ‘Pressure,’ released in 2008.

Keche boasts a multitude of nominations, and their track ‘Sokode’ achieved the remarkable feat of securing the top spot on numerous music charts across the African continent.

Kikibees CEO’s death: He took in some substance and became very high – Police findings

The case surrounding the murder of Mr. Bennet Adomah, the CEO of Kikibees and Noire Lounge, is growing increasingly complex.

The prime suspect, identified as the deceased’s girlfriend, has been arrested and brought before the court, where the prosecution revealed some intriguing findings.

Although suspicion initially fell on the deceased’s lover, Mam Yandey Joof, the police’s investigation has uncovered interesting details. According to the police report, the claims of stabbing or shooting are unfounded.

Instead, the report indicates that Ben ingested some substances before visiting his girlfriend, which made him hyperactive and led to an altercation upon his arrival.

This altercation escalated, and the deceased began damaging property in the house. Mam Yandey Joof eventually left the scene to escape the confrontation. Later, the deceased was found on the floor with marks on his arms and blood from his nose, indicating that he had likely collapsed and fallen.

A report published by Angel FM reveals: “According to the facts the police gathered, the lady did not harm the deceased.

Per police findings, he took in some substances and became very high. So, because he was in a hyperactive state, he tried to harm the lady when he got to the house. This caused him to smash a glass on the floor, and the lady managed to escape from the room.

“They said he started destroying things in the room, and it appears that he slumped and fell to the ground, hitting his head on the ground in the process. The only marks on his body were on his arms and his thumb. His nose was bleeding, and it somehow proves that he slumped and fell on the tiles.”

The lawyer representing the suspect has strongly refuted the claims that his client stabbed the deceased. He argues that the “murder” charge against his client is inappropriate, suggesting that there might be more to the case than initially thought.

This legal perspective raises questions about the nature of the charges brought against the suspect and calls for a closer examination of the case to uncover the truth.

“Because it is a murder case, she has not been asked to plead guilty or not. Her lawyer is even saying that the murder charges being levelled against her are inappropriate. They said they would go to every length to prove that their client is not guilty.

He wasn’t killed by his side chick. Also, news that his side chick’s other boyfriend confronted and killed him is false,” the reports added.

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to October 27.

Bakkali and Kiptum contenders for the greatest athletic honour

Soufiane El Bakkali from Morocco and Kelvin Kiptum from Kenya are in the running for the Men’s World Athlete of the Year award this year.

There are only two male African athletes who have been nominated for the top award this year, out of a total of 11 nominees.

Both Kiptum and Bakkali are being considered for a very important athletics award because they performed exceptionally well.

In August, Bakkali, who is 27 years old, won the world championship for the 3000m steeplechase for the second time in a row.

Kiptum, who is 23 years old, came in first place at the London Marathon in April. He ran really fast and set the second-best time ever for that race.

On 8 October, he did something that had never been done before. He finished the Chicago Marathon in two hours and 35 seconds, which was the fastest time ever recorded. He beat Eliud Kipchoge’s previous record.

  • Age requirement needed to join Garda Síochána moved to 50

Age requirement needed to join Garda Síochána moved to 50

The Irish police, known as An Garda Síochána, will now allow people up to 50 years old to join as new recruits.

The Irish Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, and Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris, think that the age requirement for entry should be adjusted before the next recruitment drive for gardaí. They want to give as many people as they can the chance to apply.

Right now, the oldest you can be to join the force is 35.

Ms McEntee is planning to present proposals to the Irish government soon, suggesting that they raise the age limit for applying.

The garda fitness test will be changed to match the current system that takes into account people’s age.

The Irish government plans to increase staff resources to 15,000. After 126 graduates at a ceremony at the garda college on Friday, there will be a total of 14,032 gardaí.

The Irish Department of Justice said they will announce the new age limit at the ceremony.

In 2024, there was money set aside to hire up to 1,000 new members, but only 800 were actually hired.

‘The limit was unfair and treated some people unfairly. ‘

The fitness test is graded in a way that takes into account a person’s age and gender. Different standards are applied to males and females, as well as to those who are aged up to 25 and those up to 35.

A new fitness test will be introduced for individuals under 50 years old. However, they will still be considered junior police officers and be required to perform the same duties as others.

This means that you will have to work at night for 12 hours and be on duty even if the weather is bad.

The retirement age of 60 has not been changed, so people can only get a limited pension after working for 10 years.

Ms McEntee talked to the Irish Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohoe about something, according to her department.

Earlier this year, a court called the Labour Court decided that it was unfair to have an age limit of 35 years.

RTÉ says that the court decided that An Garda Síochána must give €25,400 in money to pay for the unfair treatment of Ronald Boyle and Brian Fitzpatrick. They were not given jobs because of their age. Each of them will receive €12,700.

Since 2004, there has been a rule that only people who are under 35 years old can enter. Before that, the rule was that only people who were under 26 years old could enter.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto reveals how a lady broke his heart

The New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP) flagbearer candidate Dr. Afriyie Akoto, has admitted that when he was a young man, he experienced a woman’s heartbreak.

He believes that one hasn’t truly matured unless they’ve undergone that specific experience, as it’s a fundamental part of the adult experience for everyone.

The former Food and Agriculture Minister admitted that he had suffered heartache from a woman in the past, which was especially difficult for him as a young man who was not yet settled down for marriage.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto stressed that it is normal for a man to experience heartbreak because it is a necessary part of the maturation process for an individual during an interview with Starr FM on the Starr Chat show that GhanaWeb produced.

This is how the discussion with Dr. Afriyie Akoto went during the interview conducted by seasoned broadcaster Bola Ray.

Bola Ray: Have you suffered a heartbreak? Like a girl breaking your heart, did you go through that?

Dr. Afriyie Akoto: Everybody goes through that, don’t tell me you didn’t.

Bola Ray: How did you take that?

Dr. Afriyie Akoto: Well, very hard.

Bola Ray: Is the lady still around?

Dr. Akoto Afriyie: This happened many years ago so I’ve moved on.

Bola Ray: So what would you tell young men going through this phase?

Dr. Akoto Afriyie: They shouldn’t worry it’s part of life. If you don’t go through those kinds of experiences then it means you’re still not mature.

In his race against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, and former lawmaker Francis Addai Nimo, Dr. Afriyie Akoto hopes to represent the ruling New Patriotic Party.

November 4, 2023, is set aside for the NPP primary elections.

  • I’m still waiting for your call,”- Yvonne Nelson to her ‘missing’ dad

I’m still waiting for your call,”- Yvonne Nelson to her ‘missing’ dad

As Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson turns 37, her desire to meet her biological father has grown stronger over the years. Despite reaching this age, she has never had the opportunity to know her father, as her mother has kept his identity a secret.

Yvonne Nelson’s hope of reuniting with her father remains, and she patiently waits for him to reach out to her. In a heartfelt tweet on October 12, 2023, the actress and movie producer expressed her deep longing for her father’s presence in her life.

With a sense of anticipation, Yvonne Nelson conveyed her enduring patience and profound desire to connect with her biological father. She continues to wait for the call that she hopes will one day bridge the gap between them.

“Father, DAD, I’m still waiting for your call,” the tweet read.

The mystery surrounding who Yvonne Nelson’s biological father is.

Yvonne Nelson‘s revelations in her memoir, titled ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry in Ghana and beyond when the book was released on June 19, 2023.

In her memoir, Yvonne Nelson disclosed her quest to discover her real father’s identity. This journey involved conducting a series of DNA tests because the man whose surname she bears, Mr. Okoe Nelson, was not her biological father.

Yvonne shared in Chapter twenty-two of her book a poignant account of her last communication with her mother, which occurred on her birthday in 2022. During this conversation, Yvonne asked her mother about her father, which led to her mother accusing her of trying to bring shame, referencing a dream she had experienced.

“She burst into a tirade of accusation and abuse. She told me she knew I was up to something. She said she had dreamt that I would disgrace her, and what was unfolding that morning was not new to her. I was not going to fall for any form of emotional blackmail and I made her know it. I told her she probably knew I would search and find answers beyond her words.

“To dream about it meant her God was talking to her, I told her. It was the reason she should tell me the truth so that we both bring closure to the subject. She was not ready to listen to me. The tirade continued, even after I reminded her that I had not come there to fight, the reason I came with Bible verses.

“I wanted us to talk like a mother and daughter, like two mature human beings who respected each other and saw the need to find a solution that was available. The solution was in her bosom,” she revealed.

Yvonne Nelson added that over a year had passed since her last face-to-face encounter with her mother, and their communication had been limited to occasional brief WhatsApp messages, such as birthday greetings.

She disclosed, “It has been more than a year since I saw my mother. Our last communication was on my birthday in 2022. She sent me a WhatsApp message wishing me a happy birthday: ‘Happy birthday my love. May the God of heaven continue to bless you in all your endeavors in Jesus’ name. Enjoy your day to the fullest.”‘

Two South Africans perish in Israel-Hamas conflict

Two people from South Africa have died in the ongoing fighting between Israel and Hamas.

South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) shared this news on Friday, but they did not say who died.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation has been told that two South Africans have died in the conflict between Palestine and Israel, according to spokesperson Clayson Monyela.

“We are currently investigating because one of the people has an Israeli ID number. We need to find out if they have dual citizenship or what the situation is. ”

Mr Monyela, representing the government, expressed sympathy to the family and friends of the individuals who have passed away.

He said: “Our teams in Ramallah and Tel Aviv are working together and helping the families of our citizens with consular services. ”

The fighting started because Hamas militants started a very violent attack on Israel recently.

Over 2,700 people in Israel and Gaza have died.

  • German migrant car crashes resulted in seven fatalities

German migrant car crashes resulted in seven fatalities

German police say that seven people have died when a crowded minivan, driven by someone suspected of smuggling people, flipped over.

Over 20 people who were trying to migrate, including children, are believed to have been in the van.

The driver tried to escape from the police at a road check, but then crashed near Ampfing in Bavaria, according to authorities.

The accident occurred during an increase in the act of smuggling people. Because of this increase, several countries in Central and Eastern Europe have started checking their borders.

The police tried to stop a Mercedes Vito van at about 03:00 (01:00 GMT) on Friday.

The driver of the car with an Austrian license plate sped up and then crashed multiple times at a junction on the A94 motorway, between Austria and Munich.

There have been a few accidents with people-smugglers in European countries lately.

On Thursday in Hungary, a car with French license plates that was believed to be secretly transporting migrants crashed, causing the death of two people and injuring six others.

A car crashed in the town of Burghausen, near the German-Austrian border. Four people got hurt. This happened about 50km away from the place where the accident occurred on Friday.

Some countries in the EU, like Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic, have started checking their borders again because there has been more smuggling happening.

The increased checks done by Polish authorities have helped to decrease the number of migrants crossing the borders.

The A94 motorway in south-eastern Germany is a common path for people-smugglers who illegally cross the border from Austria.

The Interior Minister of Bavaria, Joachim Herrmann, said that the sad accident showed that border controls in Germany should be improved to prevent smugglers from coming in.

The number of people asking for asylum for the first time in Germany increased by 78% in the first seven months of 2023. The police say that about one-fourth of the immigrants who come to Germany are helped by people who smuggle them into the country.

  • Japan requests church be disbanded following the death of Abe

The government of Japan wants a court to close down a church that is being looked into because of the killing of a previous prime minister, Shinzo Abe, according to local news.

Last July, Abe’s unexpected death brought attention to the Unification Church, also known as “Moonies”.

The person who attacked him, Tetsuya Yamagami, said the church made his mother lose all her money and blamed Abe for encouraging it.

The church claims that it has been wrongly criticized for Abe’s murder.

The investigation, which Prime Minister Fumio Kishida requested, lasted for one year.

If the Unification Church is disbanded, it will lose its tax advantages, but it can still continue working as a group.

Yamagami said that his mother was made to give money to the church, which she was a part of for thirty years. Similar claims have resulted in lawsuits that are worth a lot of money.

In Japan, if a religious group does things that are significantly bad for the well-being of the public, they can be disbanded by the government.

Japan’s education ministry recently requested the Tokyo District Court to impose a financial penalty on the church because they did not provide satisfactory answers to questions about their activities.

A lot of people were wondering about Abe’s relationship with the church before he died, especially on social media.

He spoke at a church event in 2021 through a video connection. His grandfather, who was also a former PM, was believed to have been supportive of the church because it opposed communism.

The Unification Church was started in South Korea in 1954. It is famous for organizing large weddings. The people who belong to this group are often called ‘Moonies’, because of their leader Sun Myung Moon.

According to researchers, it started in Japan in the 1960s and connected with politicians to increase its supporters and reputation.

The church has been involved in a lot of disagreement and problems for a long time. Critics say it is similar to a cult.

The church has been sued by many of its members who say they were made to give money to the church against their will. According to their lawyers, the people making the complaint have lost at least 5. 4 billion yen ($39 million; £33 million) in the last five years.

A recent investigation by the ruling party led by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida showed that 179 out of its 379 politicians had come into contact with the Unification Church.

Mr Kishida then told LDP lawmakers to stop being connected to the Unification Church, and made it clear that he did not personally know anyone from the group.

In October of last year, he agreed to look into the church’s actions, even though he had initially said no. He stated that he was taking the allegations of the church using its followers for money very seriously.

Professor Yoshihide Sakurai, who is an expert on cult issues and has written a book about the Unification Church, believes that the influence of this controversial church could be significantly reduced.

According to Prof Sakurai, the public will start feeling cautious about it, and it will be seen as scandalous if politicians associate themselves with it.

However, the group still has many connected political and business organizations, including companies that publish newspapers, arrange travel, and sell goods. These organizations will not be affected by the court order, he explained.

Prof Sakurai said the court might not even agree to the dissolution order.

Many people believe that they chose to join the church and still do its activities. “He said it will be really hard for the court to declare the organization completely criminal because there are both victims and followers existing simultaneously. ”

  • Kikibees owner’s death: Court remands Gambian girlfriend over alleged murder

Kikibees owner’s death: Court remands Gambian girlfriend over alleged murder

The Madina District Court has remanded a 31-year-old woman in police custody due to her alleged involvement in the murder of 40-year-old Bennette Agyekum Adomah. Adomah was the Chief Executive Officer of Kikibees Restaurant and Lounge, which is situated in East Legon.

Mam Yandey Joof and the victim, Bennette Agyekum Adomah, were said to be romantically involved prior to the alleged murder. Joof, who works in the hotel industry, is accused of killing Adomah at her residence.

During the court proceedings, Mam Yandey Joof did not enter a plea, and the case will continue to be investigated.

    How it happened

Inspector Jameson Awumey narrated the facts of the case in court, explaining that the deceased, Agyekum Adomah, and the suspect, Mam Yandey Joof, had been in a romantic relationship for approximately three years.

Around three months ago, the deceased traveled abroad and returned to Ghana on the evening of October 7, 2023. He went to his residence in East Legon from the airport at around 6:00 pm.

The deceased rested for a while and later, at about 8:00 pm, left the house to go to the Kikibees Restaurant and Lounge in East Legon.

Around 12:30 am on October 8, 2023, the deceased left the Kikibees restaurant to visit the suspect at her apartment in Ogbojo.

At about 1:30 am, the deceased’s behavior suddenly became agitated, and he began acting erratically. He started throwing objects around the room and shouted that some people were chasing him.

The noise woke up the other tenants in the building.

The suspect called the deceased’s close friend and asked him to help the deceased by going to her apartment, but when the friend arrived, he discovered the deceased lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen, flailing his hands around.

He was taken to DEL Hospital in East Legon with the help of the residents, according to Inspector Awumey, but was pronounced dead soon after arrival.

The death was reported to the police, who then transported the body to the mortuary of the police hospital for preservation and an autopsy.

Pieces of broken ceramic glass with blood stains were discovered in the apartment during an investigation at the scene.

A cut was discovered on the deceased’s left thumb during an examination of the body. Investigation is ongoing.

But lawyer for the suspect, Muniru Kassim told the court his client is innocent and at the right time they will prove to court and the general public that she did not commit murder.

He declared that they would go to the high court to get his client’s bail.

The case was postponed until October 27 by the Mrs. Susana Nyakotey-presiding court.

  • Afghans wait for UK visas as Pakistan promises to deport migrants

Many Afghans who helped the UK in Afghanistan and escaped from the Taliban are now in Pakistan and unable to leave until they are taken to the UK.

Some people have told the BBC that they are scared all the time because Pakistan is taking action against migrants who do not have visas, especially after tensions increased at the border.

Marzia worked as a teacher of English for the British Council. She is very pregnant and has been waiting for a visa to go to the UK for eight months.

She says that she is not feeling well both physically and mentally.

When the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, our lives were threatened because of the jobs we had for the UK government. We had to stay hidden.

Marzia is one of the Afghans who helped the UK in some way before foreign forces quickly left when the Taliban came back to power in 2021. Other individuals are previous translators who worked for the British army. They are also people who were involved in projects led by the British to promote democracy and equality in Afghanistan. These individuals meet the requirements for the UK government’s programs to resettle them in the country. Everyone is in Pakistan because the government of the United Kingdom told them to come so they can get their visas approved.

Some people have been here for a long time, some even longer, as they wait for news about starting a new life in the UK. And when they are waiting, they cannot go to school or get a job legally.

Most of the people we talked to didn’t want their words to be mentioned by name. Some people wanted to stay anonymous, so we changed their names. Many people told us that they were scared that something bad would happen because of their situation, or that they or their family in Afghanistan could be specifically chosen by the Taliban for harm. The Taliban government has announced that former soldiers, contractors, and translators who worked for international forces in Afghanistan will not be punished.

Marzia said that when she arrived in the UK, the authorities took her passport. She also mentioned that the visa she used to enter Pakistan has expired.

In September, she was told by her caseworker at the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), her contact person in Pakistan, that she should stay in her guest house and not go out.

She already missed a doctor’s appointment and doesn’t know what to do about giving birth.

I can’t have my baby in my hotel room. She says there is nobody or anything to assist her.

Her voice becomes faster as she talks. My baby and I might get sick. We helped them, now it’s their turn to help us.
Five other individuals who had expired visas from Pakistan also mentioned that the IOM, or the place they were staying at, instructed them not to go outside.

When the BBC asked, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said they did not give the advice that was mentioned. They said that the IOM only advises people to leave their whereabouts information at their accommodation reception when they leave, so that they can be helped if needed.

We are currently waiting for responses from the UK.

We talked to individuals who were part of two government programs in the UK called ARAP (Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy) and ACRS (Afghan Citizen Resettlement Scheme).

In September, the government announced that about 2,730 people, specifically “principals” and their family members, were participating in these programs in Pakistan.

Since the UK cannot process visa applications in Afghanistan, people who are approved by the program and pass initial security checks are told to go to another country, usually Pakistan, on their own. This is so their biometrics (such as fingerprints) can be taken and final checks can be done.

It is hard to go out of the country. In Afghanistan, people have to wait a long time to get a passport. And it can take many months to get a visa for Pakistan. We talked to many people who are still hiding from the Taliban government, even though they were given amnesty. Some of them also told us that their homes were searched by the government.

In Pakistan, the UK government pays for their accommodations and meals. Many people told the BBC that they were advised to bring very little money to prevent problems at the border, but now those issues are mostly resolved.

They were told or thought they would only be in Pakistan for a few weeks, but now they are stuck and haven’t received any response from the UK.

One charity called the Sulha Alliance is working to help Afghan interpreters. They told us that many of them have been waiting for more than a year, and some have been waiting for almost two years.

Sara de Jong, one of the co-founders of the group, said that the programs were very important and necessary, but they have been implemented too slowly and have not been very effective.

Many Afghan interpreters and other people who we promised to help over two years ago are still in Afghanistan or waiting in Pakistan or other countries.

A spokesperson from the UK government said that they are keeping their promise to bring Afghans who are eligible to the UK. They are also giving out new visas to people from Afghanistan and other places so they can come live here.

UK committed to helping people in Afghanistan and has already brought around 24,600 people to safety. This includes a lot of people who are eligible for our Afghan resettlement programs.

This number represents British citizens and other people who have permission to stay in the UK and were brought out of Afghanistan during the 2021 operation. The government website says that out of this total, 21,526 individuals were part of the ACRS and ARAP programs.
‘Our lives are completely at risk’

Jamal worked as a translator for the British army. He happily shows me pictures of when he was in his military outfit. He has been in Islamabad for over five months and is currently staying with his children and wife in one room. He cannot work legally, and the only education his children receive is through online English lessons.

I left my mom and dad in Afghanistan, and they really need my help- I don’t have a job here to do anything. My kids couldn’t go to school for one year because of Covid. Then, the Taliban arrived and we couldn’t educate our children in Afghanistan. We also forgot about educating the children in Pakistan.

Qasim, who has experience working with authorities in the UK, joins him. After living with his family of 10 in one room for six months, he now regrets his decision to come.

“In Afghanistan, girls are not able to go to school, but here in this place neither can any of my children,” he said, expressing his frustration.

He thinks that if he joins the program, he would be in more danger if he goes back.

“Before we left Afghanistan, our lives were somewhat in danger, but now they are in extreme danger. ”

They are even more scared of the police in Pakistan. They knew there was a chance of being stopped on the street. Recently, some people in the ARAP program said that the police came to their hotel late at night and took them to a police station. But they were let go after a few hours.

Qasim says that a person’s personal life should be safe no matter where they live, but unfortunately that is not always the case. Since the police began searching hotels, Afghan people have been very worried and stressed. This has affected not only my family but also many others, causing them mental health issues. This action by the police is very harsh and unacceptable.
“He says we can’t be sure if we will get arrested or not. ”

The British authorities have sent a message to the BBC explaining that they are still working with the Pakistani authorities to address the problem of expired visas. They also said that if any issues arise, they will take action quickly to resolve them.

But the two men and others that the BBC talked to are still very scared.

Just like Marzia, they don’t have their passports and their visas for Pakistan are no longer valid.

‘British government – take fast action’

We asked the government about the legal status of the people in the ARAP and ACRS programs because Pakistan authorities are taking action against illegal migrants. However, the government did not answer our question.

Pakistan has announced that it is working to stop illegal migrants, but this is not specifically aimed at Afghan people. The government minister who introduced the policy stated that there are about 1. 7 million illegal migrants in the country.

Afghans are living in Pakistan without permission.

Experts believe that the reason for this action is the growing conflict between two nations. Pakistan claims that the Taliban government is providing shelter to militant groups who harm Pakistani people.

Afghanistan says it’s not true and claims that Pakistani police are bothering Afghans, even when they have the right paperwork. The consequences of the situation will impact a large number of Afghans who have come to Pakistan for refuge over many years.

In the midst of politics, people on these UK government programs wait every day to receive an email or phone call telling them they will no longer be a part of it.

Jamal says, “I helped them; I stood with them next to each other and supported them on the front line, but I don’t understand what the British government is doing for us. ” “They abandoned us a long time ago. ”

“I am asking the British government to please help us by taking us to the UK quickly. It is not good for us to stay here. ”

  • Shatta Wale’s alleged baby mama drags him to court for neglecting their child

Shatta Wale’s alleged baby mama drags him to court for neglecting their child

Ghanaian musician and self-proclaimed dancehall king, Shatta Wale, has found himself in legal trouble after his baby mama based in the UK took him to court for allegedly neglecting his responsibilities as a father.

The case stems from an alleged encounter Shatta Wale had with a Ghanaian woman in the UK, resulting in a pregnancy.

Reportedly, Shatta Wale allegedly invited the woman to his home, where they engaged in unprotected intercourse in February 2022. Approximately nine months later, the woman gave birth to a child, which she claims is Shatta Wale’s.

However, Shatta Wale has purportedly refused to acknowledge or provide for the child, largely due to his new relationship with Maali, who comes from a well-respected family.

The baby mama, unhappy with Shatta Wale’s actions, decided to take legal action against him to ensure he fulfills his responsibilities as a father.

DR Congo to relax restrictions in area affected by conflict

The Democratic Republic of Congo is going to loosen the rules in two areas that have been affected by conflict. These places have been under a state of siege, which is basically a state of military control, for two years.

President Félix Tshisekedi announced on TV that he will slowly and carefully reduce the restrictions in North Kivu and Ituri provinces.

The government declared a state of siege in 2021 to stop protests and unrest in the area.

The president promised to end the curfew and let people and things move freely. He also promised to give people the right to peacefully protest and come together.

This happens only a few months before the general elections, which will take place on 20 December. Tshisekedi is trying to be elected again.

“He said it is very important for everyone involved in the voting process to be able to fully participate without any obstacles. ”

Human rights groups are criticizing the stage of siege because they believe it has caused many people to be arrested and their freedom of movement to be limited.

Burkina Faso and Russia to sign nuclear power agreement

Burkina Faso and Russia plan to sign an agreement for building a nuclear power plant in Burkina Faso. This information was reported by the AIB news agency, which is owned by the government.

The agreement will be a result of discussions between the leader of Burkina Faso’s military, Capt. Ibrahim Traoré, and Russian President Vladimir Putin in July, during a summit between Russia and African countries in Moscow.

The Russian federal atomic energy agency, Rosatom, will sign an agreement with the Burkinabe ministry of energy during Russian Energy Week 2023, according to AIB.

Around one-fifth of the people in Burkina Faso can use electricity.

According to the International Energy Atomic Agency (IAEA), the rate is very low compared to other countries in the world.

Burkina Faso has started getting help from Russia for its economy and military since it has had disagreements with many of its usual Western partners, including France.

  • “If he serves this sentence, the state will still pursue Ato Essien and get the money – Deputy AG

“If he serves this sentence, the state will still pursue Ato Essien and get the money – Deputy AG

Deputy Attorney-General, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, has affirmed that the state will persist in its pursuit of the former CEO of the defunct Capital Bank, Ato Essien, even after his sentencing to 15 years in prison.

Mr. Tuah-Yeboah emphasized that the state’s intention is to seize Ato Essien’s immediate properties to recover a portion of the GH¢53 million he still owes the state. The 15-year sentence with hard labour handed to Ato Essien does not exempt him from fulfilling his financial obligations to the state.

“If he serves this sentence, the state will still pursue him and get the remaining amount and so it is not as if he is going to serve his sentence and then the amount will be forfeited. We are going to trace his incumbent properties and go after that in a civil action,” Mr Tuah-Yeboah said on Eyewitness News on Thursday.

Mr. Tuah-Yeboah revealed that the state had previously negotiated a payment agreement with Mr. Essien, with the understanding that he would repay the GH¢60 million he owed. Regrettably, Mr. Essien defaulted on this agreement, paying only GH¢37 million at the time of his sentencing on Thursday.

“The state has been able to retrieve GH¢37 million from the convict and he is also serving fifty years imprisonment maybe if he had not refunded the GH¢37 million, he could have had a higher sentence but as far as we are concerned.

“We entered into this agreement with him under Section 35 with the understanding that he goes by the terms of the agreement and he made some commitments by paying 37 and he couldn’t go through the entire agreement and he had to go and serve the fifteen years.”

Ato Essien was sentenced on Thursday, October 12, due to his failure to pay in full an amount of GH¢90 million he had agreed to pay the state, despite several opportunities given to him since December 2022.

He pleaded guilty to 16 counts of stealing, money laundering, and conspiracy to steal, relating to the collapse of Capital Bank, and entered a plea bargain with the state.

Under the agreement, he was supposed to pay GH¢90 million, of which he paid GH¢30 million on December 13. The remaining GH¢60 million was to be paid in three equal installments in 2023: GH¢20 million by April 28, another GH¢20 million by August 31, and the final GH¢20 million by December 15, 2023.

A key condition of the agreement was that a custodial sentence would be imposed if he missed any of the payment deadlines. Unfortunately, Mr. Essien failed to make the remainder of the payments.

NPP’s presidential primaries: Voting to be held in all constituencies on Nov. 4

Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Professor Michael Oquaye, has announced that the party’s Presidential Primaries on November 4th will take place in the party’s constituencies nationwide.

Every constituency will have a polling center for the elections, and over 200,000 NPP delegates will participate to choose the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2024 election. He assured that the elections will be conducted in a free and fair manner.

“The Electoral Commission will also be fully in charge of the process, in fact, it’s going to be like any other national election. Every constituency, there will be a centre, and for that matter, the EC will go about the process of conducting the elections.

What this means in effect is that no authority, no person, whether by way of a party person will be part of the process of conducting the elections,” Professor Michael Oquaye said.

The Presidential Elections Committee of the party released guidelines for the November 4th primaries in a statement issued in Accra. These guidelines detail the procedures and rules for the primaries, which will determine the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general election.

There are four individuals contending for the presidential slot: Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh, and former Agric Minister Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie.

  • EU investigates X for allegedly ‘allowing’ Israel-Hamas disinformation on app

EU investigates X for allegedly ‘allowing’ Israel-Hamas disinformation on app

The European Union (EU) is looking into Elon Musk’s X due to concerns that it may be sharing terrorist and violent content, hate speech, following the recent attack by Hamas on Israel.

This investigation, which is the first one following the EU’s new tech rules, will also examine how complaints are dealt with.

X, which used to be called Twitter, announced that it got rid of many accounts related to Hamas from their platform.

The EU has told TikTok and Meta that they need to do more to fight against lies and false information.

Social media companies have noticed a big increase in false information about the fighting between Israel and Hamas. This includes fake pictures and wrongly titled videos.

Thierry Breton, who is in charge of the EU’s industry, announced on Thursday that the EU has asked X to provide information to check if they are following the Digital Services Act (DSA). This law aims to safeguard users of large technology platforms, and it has been recently implemented.

Earlier on Thursday, Linda Yaccarino, who is the main boss of a company, said that they had gotten rid of many accounts related to Hamas and had done something about lots of content since the attack on Saturday. They did this because Mr Breton wrote a letter to them on Tuesday.

The EU has labeled Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, as a banned terrorist organization.

Over 150 people were captured and brought to Gaza, and around 1,300 individuals lost their lives during the violent attacks conducted by Hamas in Israel over the weekend.

So far, over 1,500 people have died in Gaza after Israel began attacking in response to previous attacks.

The UN’s World Food Programme says that the situation in Gaza is very bad. There is not enough food and water because of an Israeli blockade. Israel is saying that they will not lift the blockade until the people they are holding captive are released.

MrBreton wrote a letter to Mr. Musk, expressing concern that the platform X has not removed “violent and terrorist content” even after being warned about it.

MrBreton didn’t explain the disinformation he talked about in the letter, but he said many untrue images and facts were shared a lot on social media.

In his reply about X, Mr. Musk said that our policy is to be open and clear about everything. He knows that the EU also appreciates this approach.

“Please tell us about the rule-breaking incidents you are suggesting happened on X, so that the public can know about them. ”

The DSA became a law in November, but companies were allowed some time to ensure that their systems followed the rules.

On 25 April, the commission listed the biggest online platforms – the ones with more than 45 million EU users – that would have to follow the strictest rules, including X. The law became active in August, four months later.

Under the new rules, big companies must identify and evaluate possible dangers they might create, share that evaluation, and take steps to handle the issue.

If a company does not follow DSA rules, they may have to pay fines up to 6% of their total earnings or their service might be temporarily stopped.

X has until 18 October to explain how it handles crisis situations and until 31 October to address other topics.

MrMusk got rid of Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council right after he bought the company in 2022. Created in 2016, the volunteer council had around 100 separate groups that gave advice on topics like hurting oneself, harming children, and spreading messages of hatred.

At the moment, a representative from Meta said to the BBC that they are working day and night to make sure their websites are secure. They have put together a special team of experts to watch over what’s happening.

  • Kenya to send officials to Haiti for risk assessment before police deployment

Kenya to send officials to Haiti for risk assessment before police deployment

Kenya’s minister in charge of internal affairs stated that they will first send groups of officials to evaluate the situation in Haiti before sending police officers to deal with gang violence.

Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki said that before our officers go to Haiti, other people will visit there for their mission.

In August, Kenya sent a group of people to go to Haiti and gather facts.

Mr Kindiki also said that the police officers are prepared to tackle the gangs in Haiti because they have experience in dealing with similar situations in other countries like Namibia, Cambodia, the former Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Sierra Leone.

He said that Kenyan police are currently in Congo, Somalia, and South Sudan as part of the security forces there.

However, he said that the deployment will happen after meeting all the necessary legal rules, such as getting approval from both the parliament and the senate.

Last week, the United Nations (UN) agreed to send Kenyan police officers to Haiti. However, on Monday, a court temporarily halted this action until a decision can be made on whether it is allowed by the country’s constitution.

  • Court approves expedited hearing for Cecilia Dapaah’s case

Court approves expedited hearing for Cecilia Dapaah’s case

The Accra High Court has rescheduled the hearing for the application to freeze the accounts of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the former Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, to October 12, 2023.

The court had initially set the hearing for October 18, 2023, but it changed the date after receiving an application for abridgment of time from the former Minister. Justice Edward Twum ruled in favor of expediting the trial, stating that the former Minister would suffer greater hardship if the application for abridgment was not heard earlier.

This decision followed the court’s earlier rejection of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) initial application to freeze Mrs. Dapaah’s accounts on August 31, 2023. Subsequently, the OSP was ordered to release her funds on September 5, 2023, but it filed another application to freeze the accounts.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) served Cecilia Abena Dapaah with the freezing application on September 20, 2023, and the original date for hearing the application was set for October 18, 2023. Victoria Barth, the lead counsel for the former Minister, argued that the delay in deciding the application for abridgment of time would cause undue hardship to her client.

She also acknowledged receiving the OSP’s opposed application, characterizing it as a “comprehensive repeat application” for the confirmation of seizure and freezing orders related to suspected “tainted property.”

She said: “My Lord you have power under Order 80 (4) (1) as well as your inherent jurisdiction to reduce or abridge time in the interest of justice.”

Esther Tetteh and other lawyers from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) opposed the application for abridgment of time.

Cecilia Abena Dapaah has also filed an injunction application to prevent the OSP from continuing its investigation into her.
