Military rescues 1,800 victims of Akosombo Dam spillage in Volta Region

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have undertaken a significant rescue operation named ‘Operations Boafo,’ which has so far saved 1,800 individuals in Mempe and Aaveyime, two communities in the Volta Region. These areas experienced severe flooding due to the release of water from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams to ensure the safety of the dams.

This rescue effort is led by the 48 Engineers Regiment of the GAF, and the rescued individuals have been provided shelter by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO). As the number of rescued victims continues to rise, the military has also constructed military tents to accommodate additional individuals.

The commanding officer of the 48 Engineers Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt/Col) Alex Twumasi, emphasized that ‘Operation Boafo’ will persist until the situation is stabilized. He explained that the operation, which commenced on Friday, involves deploying one officer and 12 soldiers equipped with six boats with outboard motors to transport victims to safety and provide essential support. As long as the spillage continues, the GAF will remain on hand to ensure the preservation of lives and property.

Visiting some of the disaster sites, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Chief Executive Officer of NADMO, Nana Agyeman Premeph, interacted with victims to assess the extent of damage and gain insight into their challenges.

The Volta River Authority (VRA) initiated the controlled spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams on September 15 due to rising water levels upstream of the Akosombo Dam caused by persistent rainfall.

This coordinated effort between the military and NADMO is vital in providing relief and assistance to those affected by the flooding in the Volta Region.

  • Severe flooding in North East Region renders 6000 people homeless

Severe flooding in North East Region renders 6000 people homeless

The North East Region of Ghana has experienced devastating flooding, leaving more than 1,000 houses submerged in water and over 6,000 people displaced following a 12-hour downpour that struck last Wednesday. The deluge also caused the collapse of a crucial bridge connecting the East Mamprusi Municipality and the West Mamprusi Municipality, stranding travelers at Tinguri-Gbane.

Mr. Alhassan John Kwaku, the North East Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), revealed these distressing statistics during a recent tour of the affected area by Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, the Member of Parliament for the Walewale Constituency and the Minister of Children, Gender, and Social Protection, along with officials from the Ghana Highway Authority.

As a result of this catastrophe, many affected residents have been forced to seek shelter with friends and family, while others have taken refuge in local school buildings and churches. Mr. Kwaku cautioned that these numbers are still being assessed and could be higher.

However, he assured that all affected victims would receive assistance, even as they work to contact individuals who may be overseas and impacted by the disaster.

Meanwhile, Mr. Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh, the Director General of NADMO, took proactive steps by presenting relief items to the North East Regional Minister, Mr. Yidana Zakaria, the Member of Parliament for the West Mamprusi Constituency, Hajia Zuweira Lariba Abudu, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly, Mr. Aremeyaw Somo Lucky. These relief items included bags of rice, rubber buckets, plastic cups, plates, boxes of Maggi spices, boxes of salt, cooking oil, boxes of mackerel, and bales of used clothing.

Mr. Agyeman-Prempeh explained that this gesture was part of the efforts made by the Ghana Air Force to provide emergency aid to the flood victims, with more items slated for delivery through government and benevolent organizations. He emphasized the President’s immediate concern and his directive to mobilize aid for those affected by the disaster.

Although some natural disasters are unavoidable, Mr. Agyeman-Prempeh pointed out that certain preventative measures could be taken. The North East Region is known for its vulnerability to floods, often due to the construction of buildings in waterways and wetland areas. He urged residents to refrain from building in these areas to avert future disasters.

Mr. Agyeman-Prempeh further called for cooperation between the North East Regional Coordinating Council and NADMO officials to ensure the smooth distribution of relief items to the victims.

In conclusion, he commended Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, the MP for Walewale Constituency, for promptly reporting the disaster to the President, which prompted his rapid intervention.

The North East Regional Minister, Mr. Yidana Zakaria, expressed gratitude for NADMO’s swift response and urged for continued support. He called on NGOs, philanthropists, civil service organizations, and both natives and indigenes of the region to come to the aid of the flood victims in this trying time.

  • There is a very big difference between secular and worldly music – Kaywa

There is a very big difference between secular and worldly music – Kaywa

Ghanaian music producer David Kojo Kyei, popularly known as Kaywa, has offered advice to Ghanaians, urging them to avoid conflating secular music with worldly music, emphasizing that these are distinct concepts.

He noted that many Ghanaian gospel musicians and Christians tend to confuse the two and sometimes mock artists involved in creating secular music.

During an interview with Amelley Djosu on the Celeb Biz Show, Kaywa clarified that the Bible takes a strong stance against worldly music but encourages secular music, making a clear distinction between the two.

“We must understand that secular is not wrong. Secular and worldly are two different conversations to have. Worldly is what God frowns on. An example is an artiste who always uses vulgar words. Secular songs, on the other hand, are love songs that can be spirit-filled,” he said.

Kaywa went on to clarify that worldly music often contains lyrics that undermine a godly way of living, promoting sexual immorality, violence, and other sinful lifestyles that can lead people away from God.

In contrast, secular songs typically emphasize love and peace, qualities encouraged by the Bible for every Christian.

He pointed out that many of the lyrics found in secular music align with spiritual themes and can nourish the soul. Therefore, he encouraged Christians to appreciate and embrace secular music instead of ridiculing it.

“So instead of trying to open up and expose secular and worldly musicians as people who are not from God, we should rather mirror the good ones and leave the bad ones behind,” he explained.

Kaywa pointed out that some Ghanaian gospel musicians, despite creating soul-nourishing songs, lead lives that are not aligned with their message.

This incongruence is why they often criticize secular musicians and refrain from collaborating with them. Kaywa advised gospel artists to be open to collaboration with secular musicians and prioritize creating excellent music.

He emphasized that Christians are called by God to define and express love to others, irrespective of their musical genre or background.

  • Chicago: Landlord charged with hate crime for stabbing 6-year-old Muslim child 26 times

Chicago: Landlord charged with hate crime for stabbing 6-year-old Muslim child 26 times

A man has been arrested for killing a six-year-old boy who was Muslim. He has been charged with murder and hate crimes.

Joseph Czuba, a 71-year-oldman, is being accused of causing the death of Wadea Al-Fayoume and causing severe injuries to his mother in Plain field, Illinois.

The landlord supposedly singled out the two people who rented from him because of their religious beliefs and the ongoing dispute between Hamas and Israel.

President Joe Biden expressed feeling very disgusted and disturbed by the attack that occurred on Saturday.

“This terrible act of hate should not exist in America and goes against our core principles:feeling safe to worship, having our own beliefs, and being accepted for who we are,” he stated.

The woman, who is 32 years old, was hurt by her landlord. The landlord used a big knife with a long blade that is like the ones used in the military. It had a length of seven inchesor18centimeters. The woman quickly went to the bathroom to call the police for help, according to the authorities.

Her six-year-old son, Wade Al-Fayoume, was stabbed many times in the attack and later died in the hospital.

He had his birthday party a few weeks ago. He had strong feelings of affection and care towards his family and friends. Ahmed Rehab, the executive director of the Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said that he really enjoyed playing soccer and basketball.

When the police got to the place, which was around 40 miles (64km) away from Chicago in the south-west direction, they saw Mr. Czuba sitting on the ground outside the building. He had a cut on his face.

The people who were hurt, and are from Palestine and America, were discovered in a room.

Mr Czuba went to the hospital to get medical help before speaking with the detectives. He was accused of committing very serious crimes including murder, attempting to murder someone, displaying hatred towards specific groups, and causing severe harm to someone.

The detectives were able to figure out a possible reason even though he did not say anything.

The suspect attacked both victims because they were Muslim and there was a conflict happening in the Middle East involving Hamas and the Israelis. The Will County Sheriff’s office stated this.

The US Justice Department is investigating the attack as a federal hate crime.
During a press meeting on Sunday, CAIR introduced the boy as Wadea al-Fayoume and his mother as Hanaan Shahin.

It is said that Wadea was born in the US. His mother came from Beitunia in the West Bank and moved to the US 12 years ago.

“[Wadea] suffered the consequences of the strong dislike and exclusion of others, as well as the act of treating them as less than human, which I honestly believe is happening in the United States,” expressed Mr.

The father of the boy, Oday al-Fayoume, was at the press conference and was very surprised, according to Mr.

People who lived nearby, like Eva Case, were really shocked and couldn’t believe what happened during the violent attack. “I don’t have any concern about the circumstances,” she said to CBS,which is a US partner of the BBC. “Don’t blame someone who is innocent in life. “

Some people who lived close by said the two people moved into the house four years ago.

It’s making me feel really disgusted. “I can’t believe someone would do that to a small child,” a neighbor said.
Over 1,400 people died in Israel when Hamas came over the border from the Gaza Strip to attack regular people and soldiers.

In Gaza, around 2,700 people have died because of the bombings by Israel, according to Palestinian authorities. They believe that approximately 1,000 people are still missing and trapped under the debris.

On Sunday, the FBI announced that there have been more reports of threats in the US since Hamas began their attack over a week ago.

A high-ranking FBI official said that many cases were found to lack credibility, but both Jewish and Muslim institutions have been targeted.

  • They want to kill me because I criticised Ken Agyepong – Blind historian reveals threat on his life

They want to kill me because I criticised Ken Agyepong – Blind historian reveals threat on his life

A visually impaired political activist, Duodu Bulgaria, says he has been compelled to relocate owing to threats to his life.

Duodu has been vocal ahead of the New Patriotic Party Presidential primaries and the 2024 general elections.

He has criticised several political figures such as former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

It appears that his unsavory commentary has won him some enemies.

In an interview on Yes Ghana, Duodu noted that he had spotted one WeareforKen TV reporting news of death threats received by him and a ploy to blame it on Mr Ken Agyapong.

According him, he did not give much attention to it until he saw other media houses making similar reports.

“On Friday, I saw that WeareforKen TV, they had done a certain story that people want to kill me and blame Ken Agyapong for it.
When I saw it, I thought WeareforKen TV are just doing politics. So I didn’t take it seriously. But on Sunday, I saw Eko)Naba TV had done an interview where they engaged Mr Oheneba Ntim, my own father who was also saying same. Then I realized that the matter has gone viral. My relatives were not comfortable with the issue so they decided that I should relocate from my place.

“I want to thank the people of Asiakwa. Those from abroad, and in Accra asked that I relocate. So I had to relocate,” he narrated.

According to him, he cannot confirm whether such death threats being reported and the said individual being accused are true.

“But that is what they are saying. But as to whether it is true or not, I cannot say and cannot confirm. I think it could be a strategy and yes, maybe somebody has planned this, but those who put this information out, where did they get it and when they got it, what have they done about it.

“And it cannot be that those who want to commit this act are the same people announcing it and later say that we earlier relayed this information. That is also possible. Those announcing this are suspects.”

To protect his life, Duodu has made a complaint to the Ghana Police Service.

“Yes, I have reported the issue to the police. I went to our Divisional Commander but he told me it is now a national issue due to the names involved so he said I should report at the headquarters, so I am looking for to those who took me to him to go to the headquarters, so I lodge a complaint,” he stated.

During the interview, Duodu was asked if he has personally received death threats. His response was affirmative.

“I have had someone call me to threaten my life. I have also had a WhatsApp message,” he said.

He further explained that: “The call was private and the person said my case has been drawn to their attention. I asked what case, then the person started insulting me and hanged up. I was at Legon and I had not completed. That was 15th August 2023, just a day before I completed.”

“It was a WhatsApp message. The person insulted me and said may God forgive me for insulting Kennedy Agyapong. The person said a lot. Lots of curses,” he continued.

Duodu used the opportunity to dispel claims of being bought by the Bawumia camp to derail the reputation of Mr Ken Agyapong prior to the NPP presidential primaries.

According to him, his criticism stems from controversial comments made by the legislator in the past. He notes that death statements pronounced by Mr Agyapong make him unfit to lead the country as its president.

“I criticize a lot but to deliberately sit and insult him, I have not but maybe some of the things I say could be too harsh but I don’t deliberately sit to insult him. No, I only criticize him for things he has said in the past as he campaigns to be president. For me, I say because of some things he has said in the past, he is not fit to be president of the land.

People criticize Bawumia for the collapse of the economy despite studying economics so why can’t I criticize someone who has called tor the death of Gas and Ewes. Such a person cannot become president. Why can’t I say that? It is unfortunate that they say I have been paid to tarnish the image of Ken Agyapong. I am a Ghanaian I am entitled to assess and scrutinize anybody who wants to become my leader to determine if the person is fit,” he added.

  • Telenovelas cause too many divorces- Sam George

Telenovelas cause too many divorces- Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, has pointed out that the practice of projecting superficial ideologies from telenovelas onto real-life marriages is a major contributing factor to divorce.

He described this phenomenon as delusional, stating that the fairy tale mindset often promoted by these shows can lead to high expectations and impatience within viewers.

In an interview with Berla Mundi, he said “Divorce rates are high because people are watching too much telenovela. Movies have taught us a certain culture of impatience. No two people can live together without issues. In most movies, the guy does something the lady doesn’t like, then she calls her lawyer and sues him and they end the marriage. They both go their separate ways. They move on and find someone better. That’s not real life. Movies are scripts. At a point, they tell you to cut and take it again. In life, there is no cut.

“That’s one of the things the LGBTQ people are doing with the movies, in 2011 when I went to Kumasi, if anyone heard about money sacrifice, it was a scary thing. So, we were accustomed to it by the power of movies. So that’s the challenge of marriage as well in young couples,” he said.

Sam George, revealed that outside of work, he primarily spends quality time with his wife.

“When I am not doing politics, I am lying by my wife,” he established in an interview with TV3’s Berla Mundi.

Sam George, who recently celebrated 11 years of marriage with his wife, established that it entails a lot of work.

“It’s been a good journey. Marriage is work but it is a good enterprise, especially when you’re doing it with the right person. Marriage is not a noun; it is a verb.”

Sam George shared that when he encounters misunderstandings with his wife, he has adopted a new approach of staying silent and steadfast.

“I used to free my mind when I was angry. I say whatever is on my mind but now I have stopped that because I have realized that after we settle our fights, I realize some of the things I said were totally wrong. Maybe in some cases, I was the one who was initially offended, but because of the things I said, now I have to apologize. But you see, even the tongue and teeth fight. The only reason I will support walking away from a marriage is emotional and physical abuse,” he added.

167 people still missing after boat in DR Congo collapsed

Rescuers are looking for 167 people who are currently missing since their boat tipped over in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday, according to officials.

Over 40 dead bodies were found and 189 people were saved after the boat sank in the Congo River.

A group helping with rescues and recoveries said that the boat had too many people (more than 300 passengers) and things on it.

In DR Congo, people often use boats for transportation because there aren’t many roads.

However, many accidents happen on boats because they are carrying too many people, not being properly taken care of, and traveling when it is dark outside.

Many passengers also do not use life jackets.

Authorities say that the boat was sailing at night without following the safety rules.

Moise Katumbi, a well-known opposition leader in DR Congo and a candidate in the upcoming presidential election in December, expressed his sadness about “this tragic event”.

He said it was because the government allows old and overloaded boats to travel at night.

The local government in Equateur, where the accident occurred, will help children who were hurt in the accident and lost their parents by offering them emotional help.

The radio station said that they found over 40 bodies up until now, but the local civil society organization, Conscious Generation, claimed that the actual number was 50.

A person who lived through this accident told the radio that the boat, which had left Mbandaka city for Bolomba area in the Equateur province, stopped and became unsteady because there were too many people on it.

The boat turned over and sank while the crew tried to fix its balance, said the one person who survived.

On Sunday, the second-in-command of Equateur province gave out bags and boxes to put dead bodies in for some of the burials.

“Davido’s ‘Unavailable’ and ‘Risky’ tracks were written by me” – Peruzzi boasts

A signee of DMW Records, Peruzzi Vibes, has revealed that he was the mastermind behind the hit tracks, ‘Risky’ and ‘Unavailable,’ which were performed by his boss, Davido

In a recent revelation, Peruzzi made bold assertions about his contribution to the creation of two of Davido’s popular songs, namely “Risky” and “Unavailable.”

Peruzzi’s claim that he was the sole songwriter behind the hit tracks ‘Risky’ and ‘Unavailable,’ originally performed by Davido, came to light during an impromptu freestyle session in his studio. This revelation has been circulating on social media platforms.

“Risky, oh boy too respect when I wrote Risky. When I wrote ‘Unavailable’ I was still unavailable, I did it though; see the outcome, unbelievable,” he started in part.

Peruzzi’s claims about the songs have sparked discussion within the online community. Some suggest that giving these songs to Davido was a strategic move on Peruzzi’s part, as he recognized that Davido’s star power played a crucial role in their success.

Others argue that releasing the songs independently might not have led to the same level of fame, particularly considering Peruzzi’s past struggles with creating viral hits.

Israel refuses to ceasefire in southern Gaza as thousands wait at border crossing

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that there are no plans for a ceasefire to help people from other countries leave southern Gaza and allow humanitarian assistance to enter.

According to news from the US media, there were reports that Egypt may allow people to cross the Rafah border for a few hours starting from 9:00 am local time (6:00 am GMT). However, the border is currently closed.

Many people are coming together and hoping to leave Gaza before they think Israel will attack on foot.
People from the United States who are in Gaza were previously told to go nearer to the crossing.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, mentioned that the crossing would be open to provide aid, but he did not give details about when it would happen.
At the moment, the Israeli military is moving 28 communities away from the Lebanese border, within a distance of 2km or 1. 24 miles.

US President Joe Biden asked Israel to be careful as their military gets ready for a ground attack in Gaza.

Crime has increased a lot in Ecuador, and it has also become a place where drug gangs gather. This is because it is in between Colombia and Peru, which are the top two countries that make cocaine.

MrNoboa wants to put the most dangerous criminals of Ecuador on ships outside of Ecuador’s coast. This is to stop the criminal gangs in prisons from fighting and killing each other.

He also wants to make Ecuador’s borders and ports safer by using scanners to stop drug trafficking. This will help intercept more shipments of cocaine.

He has also tried to attract voters by making a promise to increase job opportunities.

Shatta Wale is telling lies, he was never paid £80K by Alordia – DJ Azonto reveals

Ghanaian musician who is known for wearing ladies’ clothes Kwesi Arthur popularly known as DJ Azonto, has expressed his perspective on the dispute between Shatta Wale and Akwasi Aboagye regarding Shatta Wale’s payment for his performance at the Ghana Music Awards UK.

According to DJ Azonto, Shatta Wale‘s claim that he was paid £80,000 for the performance is untrue.

In an interview with Property FM, he said “As for me what I see is that Shatta Wale is telling lies, I mean Shatta Wale is lying by saying that he was paid £80,000.

“There is no way Shatta Wale was paid £80K and he’s lying because what I know is that he was paid about £200K,” DJ Azonto said in an interview with Amansan Krakye

He continued “That’s why I’m saying that Shatta Wale is lying because he took more than the amount he announced and I’m saying it emphatically.

“But it’s like a secret that I’m revealing to you because if I look at the treatment given to Shatta including his hotel and other gifts.

“Even Alordia bought me ladies’ hill worth £15K and so with the iPhone and others he bought for Shatta I think Alordia paid him like £200K.

“The accommodation alone, the wristwatch he bought for Shatta and he also bought me a gold watch so with all these he paid me £40K so how much more a big brand like Shatta Wale,” DJ concluded.

The former Bank of China Chairman was apprehended on suspicion of accepting bribes and granting illegal loans.

Liu Liange, who was in charge of the government-owned bank from 2019 to 2023, stepped down from his job in March this year.

Several weeks later, officials revealed that Mr. Liu was being accused of corruption.

The 62-year-old is one of the oldest bankers to be caught in President Xi Jinping’s investigation into corruption in China’s financial sector, valued at $60 trillion.

The effort to get rid of corruption in the country’s financial industry seems to be increasing, with officials in April saying that the crackdown was not finished yet.

Many important financial executives from government-owned banks have already been punished with fines, imprisonment, or are being investigated. For instance, the former chairman of China Life Insurance, Wang Bin, has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance of getting released early, because he was involved in bribery.

Mr Liu was recently arrested after being kicked out of China’s ruling Communist Party. The party expelled him because he was accused of doing something wrong by the country’s top anti-graft watchdog, China’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

The regulator said that Mr Liu did many bad things that caused big money problems.

Some of the things he’s accused of are giving out loans illegally, bringing in banned books, and accepting bribes and special treats like invitations to exclusive clubs and ski resorts, all using his position at the bank.

Mr Liu was an important person in China’s banking and financial sector. He had important jobs in China’s central bank and the Export-Import Bank of China. He got a better job and became the chairman of the Bank of China in 2019.

“If it’s a good deal definitely it’s a good deal so unless it’s a good deal I don’t rush for it because I’ve been independent the whole time”, he said in an interview with Amansan Krakye on Property FM.

Samini said he’s been independent all these years and hasn’t had any major problems.

“I haven’t had any major issues and I have my own international distributors that I work with who also have been great so far.

“So my doors are always open for bigger opportunities and bigger exploits with the right people,” Samini said.

Police in Uganda intercept plan to bomb churches – Museveni

The Ugandan police stopped a bomb attack on churches by a dangerous militant group, according to President Yoweri Museveni.

MrMuseveni wrote on X (previously known as Twitter) that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) were planning to put two bombs in churches in Kibibi, an area about 50 km (30 miles) away from the capital city Kampala, on Sunday.

But he said the devices were reported to the police and taken care of so they wouldn’t cause harm.

The president said that the bombs were hidden as PA systems and given as presents to pastors in the area. People told other people about what they saw.

Earlier on the same day, Mr Museveni said that Uganda’s forces had conducted air attacks on four ADF locations in the nearby Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The president said that a lot of terrorists were killed. ”

He said that the ADF who escaped are going back into Uganda and trying to do some random terrorist acts.

In June, a group of militants called ADF hurt and killed 42 people, including 37 students, in a high school in western Uganda close to the border with DR Congo.

It was one of the most deadly attacks by ADF in the country.

“We were shaking when we heard we were expecting twins” — Davido

Popular Nigerian musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido has recently shared his emotional reaction to finding out that he and his wife, Chioma, were expecting twins.

The information was revealed following the celebrity couple’s first public appearance with their newborn twins in a leaked Update that was broadcast last Friday.

Speaking at the United Masters Select Con event on Sunday, the artist behind hits like ‘Timeless’ reflected on the profound moment.

He expressed how they were both overwhelmed with joy and disbelief upon discovering they were expecting twins.

The timing of this happy news is poignant because it occurred at the same time as a devastating loss in their lives. In a tragic pool accident in October 2022, Ifeanyi, Davido’s son, lost his life.

“When my wife and I found out, we were shaking, and it was in the same month my son passed. My son passed away last year in October, and my wife gave birth this year in October.”

DR Congo and Uganda agree on traveling without visa

Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo have decided to remove the need for visas, so people can travel between both countries without visa.

This agreement is meant to make it easier for people to travel between the two countries and to make trade stronger.

The agreement comes after recent discussions between officials from both countries in the capital city of DR Congo, Kinshasa.

Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni, has been asking for a policy where people can freely visit the two countries without needing a visa for several months.

Crossing in East Africa should not have any cost associated with it. You have to pay for a visa when traveling to America or Europe, but having to pay for a visa to go to DR Congo is ridiculous. “If that’s true, I got rid of it,” President Museveni said in December when he opened the Mpondwe one-stop border post on Uganda’s border with DR Congo.

In May, he requested the officials from both countries to make the process of allowing travel without visas faster.

Many people from Uganda and Congo have said that they have to pay a lot of money for visas when they cross the border.

Police in South Africa looking for phoney doctor who fled custody

Police in South Africa are searching for a suspect who ran away from custody. The suspect is accused of pretending to be a doctor.

Kingsley Leeto Chele is someone who pretended to be a doctor or pharmacist on Facebook and tricked women into giving him their money, according to the police.

He is also known as Dr Kingsley Chele or Dr KJ Ncube.

Chele is being accused of lying to healthcare workers on Facebook about wanting to find investors. He then took their money without actually having any projects to invest in.

He got caught by the police on October 2nd because people reported he was doing fraudulent things in June.

A court in Pretoria said he couldn’t be released from jail and he had to stay there until his next court date, which was set for this Tuesday.

He got away on the day before yesterday, while the police were arranging his things at his home, and he has been running away ever since, says the police.

The police want anyone who knows where he is to contact them.

The man, Dr. Matthew Lani, recently appeared on the app TikTok. He was seen wearing medical clothing called scrubs and giving advice on health matters at a public hospital.

NPP elections: Committee to meet stakeholders today

The Presidential Elections Committee (PEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to convene an Intra-Party Advisory Committee meeting today, involving all stakeholders, including the flag bearer hopefuls.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and address any challenges or concerns raised by the aspirants during their campaign activities in preparation for the upcoming election to select a flag bearer for the 2024 general elections. Prof. Mike Oquaye, the Chairman of the PEC, has expressed the committee’s dedication to ensuring a transparent, free, and fair election process.

The former Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee (PEC), Prof. Mike Oquaye has called upon all flag bearer aspirants and their agents to collaborate with officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Ghana Police Service to guarantee a peaceful and effective election on November 4, 2023. He emphasized that the EC is responsible for overseeing the entire electoral process, while the police will manage the security aspect of the election to ensure its smooth operation.

“No persons, whether government, party official or otherwise whatsoever, shall act in contravention to the guidelines of the EC,” he said.

Prof. Oquaye further mentioned that the party has implemented measures to prevent any aspirant or their representatives from participating in proxy vote buying, which could unfairly influence the election’s outcome.

To apply for a proxy vote, individuals must provide evidence of their absence or the reason for their inability to be physically present at the voting center. This aims to maintain the integrity of the election and ensure fairness among all aspirants.

“An affidavit or a declaration from a Commissioner of Oaths must accompany every application.

Proxy list will be published for public information and verification,” he added.

“We will not allow proxy contractors or traffic contractors in the proxy application process.

We cannot allow this to undermine the credibility and integrity of the process,” he stressed.

Prof. Oquaye also confirmed that the PEC had issued guidelines specifying that there would be no gatherings or addresses to delegates or the public by any national party executive, government officials, regional party executives, constituency executives, contestants, or their representatives on the day of the voting. This measure is taken to ensure a fair and orderly electoral process during the upcoming presidential primary.

  • Palestinian males trapped outside Gaza witness the atrocities their family go through

Palestinian males trapped outside Gaza witness the atrocities their family go through

The men in the wedding hall at the Dheisheh refugee camp in the West Bank spend a lot of time on their phones, smoking, and always checking for new updates on their news feeds. They seem very tired, and you can see that they have been through some terrible experiences in the past few days.

These 180 people, who are all men, are refugees from Gaza. They are part of around 18,000 people who live in the area and have permission to work in Israel. They can go back and forth across the border. When the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) blocked all entry to Gaza after Hamas’ dangerous attack last Saturday, these men got trapped.

There are people in Khan Younis, which is a town in southern Gaza, facing a serious refugee crisis. They have families but cannot leave the town.

The Israeli military has been continuously attacking Gaza with airstrikes and artillery after Hamas fighters carried out a violent attack and fired many rockets, resulting in the deaths of at least 1,400 people. The scary group also took away about 150 more people last Saturday in their very shocking and violent attack.

The Israeli military wants to destroy Hamas and make sure it can never attack again. But many civilians have been severely affected by the campaign. The health department in Gaza said that in the past eight days, 2,450 people have died. This is even higher than the number of deaths during the entire 2014 war, which lasted for 51 days.

Ismail Abd Almagid’s wife and five kids, four girls and one boy, are in Gaza. Meanwhile, Ismail is staying in a refugee camp. He has videos of all of them saved on his phone. The picture shows a little girl named Misk eating a slice of mango. When he watches the video, tears start flowing down his cheeks.

Tala, the second oldest daughter of someone, got hurt in the war of 2014 while they were staying at their grandparents’ house. “He said, ‘Since she enjoys roller skates, I promised to bring them back when I return. ‘”

Abd Almagid, who is 44 years old, said to CNN that he always tries to stay connected with his wife. However, it has been hard to communicate because Israel stopped the access to electricity, food, and water in Gaza.

My kids want me to pray for them. He said that things are really tough there. “I want to return to Gaza immediately, even though there may be difficulties. Bring me to Gaza, I will go with you now. My life feels incomplete without my family. ”

Currently, there are a lot of people moving from one place to another in Gaza. Many of them are going to a crowded area called Khan Younis.

The Israeli military asked people who live in crowded areas in the north of Gaza, including Gaza City, to move to the southern part of the area. The United Nations said that the instruction, which would affect 1. 1 million people, would have extremely serious effects on people in need of help.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) informed CNN on Sunday that they believe around 500,000 individuals have moved from northern Gaza to the southern area up until now.

When Abd Almagid received permission to work in Israel in October of last year, it felt incredibly fortunate, like winning the lottery. The economy in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas but cut off by Israel and Egypt, has been severely damaged, and almost half of the people do not have jobs, as reported by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.

I really wanted this permit because things are really bad in Gaza. The money situation and amount of money owed in the economy is very low. “There are no job opportunities,” he said, mentioning that he has been jobless since he finished school in 2004 when he received the permit.

Israel started giving many permits to people from Gaza so they can go into Israel for work. Israel did this to try and stop Hamas from fighting with weapons.

His wife, who studied English, also doesn’t have a job. He said he was going to Israel every second week to work at a bakery.

Most of the men at the Dheisheh refugee camp are in a similar situation. They are the only ones in their families who have a job. The amount of money people earn in Israel is much higher than what they could earn in Gaza.

Marwan Saqer, who is 55 years old, is the only person in his whole family who has a job. He is also the only one who has ever left Gaza.

He was doing a job at a building site in Kafr Qassem, a town of Arab people close to Tel Aviv, when Hamas carried out an attack on Israel. He said that the Palestinian Authority asked him and other people from Gaza to go to the West Bank because their Israeli work permits were canceled.

He said that the Dheisheh people welcomed them very warmly by giving them mattresses, blankets, and basic things they needed, and they also offered them comfort and friendship.

The Dheisheh camp in Bethlehem was made in 1949. At that time, 3,000 Palestinians came to live there because they were forced to leave their homes or run away from villages near Jerusalem.

The number of people living in the camp has increased to over 18,500. They now reside in an area that is one third of a square kilometer in size. This information is provided by the UN’s Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

In the camp, the walls have pictures of its people who died in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has been going on for many years. The custom began in the 1990s to honor and remember them and has continued until today.

The camp is controlled by the Palestinians, but the Israeli army often comes in and captures people and does searches. People who live nearby told CNN that the Israeli military came on Sunday morning and arrested three individuals. 180 people from Gaza have already come to the camp. We expect more people to come in the next few days.

While talking to CNN, Saqer’s phone kept ringing a few times because his son was calling him from Gaza. He answered the call, but it was cut off right away because the signal on the other end stopped working.

We talk, but they only give me some of the truth. He said to CNN that they don’t want to make him more worried.

These men feel very worried and sad because their wives and children are in a dangerous place called Gaza, while they are in a safer place called the refugee camp.

It is hard. We all gather in one place and talk about how we feel. We all feel the same as fathers. We all understand and experience the pain that our children go through,” Saqer said.

The room feels small and crowded, and everyone is feeling nervous. Arguments can happen quickly and easily over things like who gets to use power plugs.

“Saqer said that there are individuals in our group who cry all night, staying awake. ” “We are physically present, but mentally our focus is on Gaza. ”

UTAG urges police to arrest, prosecute thugs who assaulted Citi TV/FM journalist

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has expressed concern over the recent attacks on journalists, viewing them as a threat to the country’s democracy.

Following an incident in which Citi News journalist Akosua Otchere was assaulted while covering the vetting of National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirants, UTAG has called for the arrest of those responsible for the attack.

The assault occurred at the NDC’s Greater Accra Regional Office and resulted in physical harm to Ms. Otchere and the confiscation of her mobile phone. UTAG has emphasized the importance of protecting journalists in the performance of their professional duties.

“We call on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure that perpetrators of all attacks on journalists, including the one on Citi FM journalists, media houses and killings of journalists in the country, are arrested and prosecuted without fail,” UTAG stated in the communiqué.

Citi FM and Citi TV have strongly condemned the attack on journalist Akosua Otchere, characterizing it as an unprovoked act of violence and a serious infringement on media freedom and journalist safety.

The management of Citi FM and Citi TV has taken formal action by lodging a complaint at the La Police Station to ensure a proper investigation of the incident.

They are urging the police administration to swiftly and comprehensively identify and apprehend those responsible for the assault on Ms. Otchere. Several organizations and entities, including the NDC, Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), and the Information Ministry, have also issued statements condemning the incident and calling for the arrest and prosecution of the attackers.

  • Diplomatic rescue efforts for ‘strangled’ Gaza ramping up as worries of regional confrontation grow

Diplomatic rescue efforts for ‘strangled’ Gaza ramping up as worries of regional confrontation grow

UN experts have said that Gaza is being heavily controlled and attacked by Israel. There are worries that this could lead to more violence and harm for the people trying to escape. This could also involve other countries getting involved in the conflict.

Israel has promised to get rid of Hamas because of the very bad terrorist attacks they launched on October 7. Hamas is an extremist group that is in charge of a certain area. More than 1,400 people were killed and many were taken hostage during Hamas’ violent attack, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). US President Joe Biden has described it as the most terrible killing of Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Countries are trying harder to create a pathway for sending much-needed supplies into Gaza. This is because the 2. 3 million people living there are running out of important things like clean water, food, fuel, and medicine. Aid agencies say this will lead to an extremely serious humanitarian disaster that has never been seen before.

“Gaza is in a desperate situation, and it appears that people all around the world have forgotten their compassion,” said Philippe Lazzarini, who leads the UNRWA. He urgently called for essential assistance to be permitted into Gaza. We know that water is essential for life. Unfortunately, in Gaza, they are running out of water, which is causing a decline in their quality of life.

Lazzarini said that for the past eight days, Gaza has not received any water, wheat, or fuel, and the people living there are very desperate.

The Israeli Prime Minister‘s office said on Monday that there are no plans to open the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. This is the only way people can enter Gaza that is not controlled by Israel.

The Prime Minister’s office told CNN that currently, there is no agreement to stop fighting or provide help to the people in the Gaza Strip in exchange for foreigners leaving.

Hospitals in Gaza are constantly being attacked by Israeli airstrikes. They may have to close soon because there is not enough fuel to power the generators that provide water and keep essential equipment like ventilators and incubators working, according to Marwan Jilani, the Director General of the Palestinian Red Crescent. He explained that there wouldn’t be any more fuel left by Monday or Tuesday.

Hospitals in Gaza are about to collapse. They don’t have any painkillers left and many people are getting very dehydrated because they don’t have enough drinking water. This information comes from a medical group called Medecins sans Frontieres. Many aid agencies are saying that there is a risk of running out of fuel and essential items in just a few hours, rather than days.

Around 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza, with 5,000 expecting to give birth soon, are facing a very difficult and dangerous situation. The UN Population Fund representative, Dominic Allen, warns that they are dealing with a “double nightmare. ” These women are at risk of giving birth in unclean conditions, which could lead to health problems, all while fearing the danger of bombs.

Making the situation worse is the fact that many people are leaving their homes in northern Gaza and trying to go south through the damaged streets before an Israeli attack that the IDF said would have strong strikes and important ground actions.

During just one week, more than 1 million people had to leave their homes because of a dangerous situation. Around 400,000 of these people are seeking refuge in UN schools and buildings, but there isn’t enough room to accommodate everyone who needs help.

Israel’s President Isaac Herzog said that he witnessed awful things during the Hamas attack on Israeli homes and communities. He mentioned a booklet that he found, which explains how the militant group kidnaps and tortures people.

The country that I belong to is going through a difficult time, it is hurting and suffering. My country is sad. “And we have to remove a very mean and cruel enemy, who shows no humanity, without any kindness,” he told CNN.

For more than a week, Israeli bombings have caused the deaths of at least 2,670 people in Gaza. This includes many children, as reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry. They have accused the Israeli military of purposely attacking medical personnel and their families.

More people have died in the last eight days in Gaza than during a longer conflict in 2014 between Gaza and Israel. Currently, it is believed that Hamas is keeping around 150 Israelis and people from other countries as hostages in the network of tunnels located under Gaza.

Many people, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Pope Francis, and various nations and aid organizations, are urgently requesting the opening of safe routes for providing help to Gaza.

The spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office, Ravina Shamdasani, said that a lot of diplomatic efforts are currently happening. The Secretary-General and many member states are using their influence to try and achieve their goals.

“If we can’t deliver this aid, there could be thousands of deaths,” Shamdasani said to CNN.

Israeli President Herzog said on Sunday that he was having another meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to talk about creating a safe passage for humanitarian aid. However, any future plans regarding this route would require approval from the Israeli cabinet, the government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the new national unity emergency government.

The highest-ranking American diplomat has been traveling to Israel and nearby countries lately, having discussions with leaders from different regions.

On Sunday, Blinken said that the Rafah border crossing will be open, and mentioned that the US is collaborating with the UN, Egypt, Israel, and other parties to organize aid efforts.

China’s highest-ranking diplomat, Wang Yi, said that Israel went too far in defending itself. China’s envoy to the Middle East, Zhai Jun, plans to visit the region this week.

Help and assistance has been accumulating on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, but it seems that the facility is not currently working. Egypt claims that airstrikes on the Gaza side have made the roads there unusable, and Jordan wants to be sure that aid convoys will not be attacked by Israeli warplanes.

The Israeli ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, said that Israel is making a place in Gaza for lots of people to stay. However, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, said he does not know if the UN is helping Israel make this place.

We don’t know if water is currently entering southern Gaza.

Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office informed CNN on Sunday that water supply has been reinstated in southern Gaza. However, the director of the Water Authority in southern Gaza claimed that he was unsure if there was water available because the electricity needed to pump water was still not functioning.

Colonel Jonathan Conricus said that Israeli forces have initiated airstrikes against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. This action was carried out in response to the launching of rockets by Palestinian militants from Gaza into Israeli territory. Rewrite: ColonelJonathan Conricus, an official from Israel, mentioned that they have started sending water to southern Gaza by increasing its supply. However, he admitted that they are not fully aware of the exact amount of water reaching the intended areas.

A military expert says that Hamas is already failing in the second part of their plan.

As Israel fights against Hamas, it also has to deal with the risk of a bigger fight in other areas. There are tensions with Lebanon’s strong Hezbollah group, which is supported by Iran, in the north. There are also potential conflicts in Syria.

Western countries are worried about a big conflict in a specific area. The President of France advised the leader of Iran to not make the crisis in Gaza worse. The United States has been getting ready to defend itself in the Middle East, so that Iran doesn’t attack or make the fighting spread to other places near Israel.

More US attack airplanes called A-10 Warthogs arrived in the Middle East on Sunday. They joined other fighter jets that were already there, along with two US carrier strike groups that were sent to the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

In an interview with CBS Sunday, Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Adviser, said that although there is no new information suggesting any change in the level of threat from Iran, there is a possibility that the conflict could worsen.

Sullivan mentioned that the decision to open a second front in the north, along with Iran’s involvement, is a dangerous risk that they have been aware of from the beginning.

Sullivan said that the fights between Israel and Hezbollah at the border increase the chances of things getting worse. He also mentioned that there is a possibility that Iran might get involved directly, so we need to be ready for any situation.

Iran has said that if Israel keeps attacking Gaza, there will be even bigger trouble.

  • Akosombo Dam Spillage: We have engineers to help govt prevent such an incident – UTAG

Akosombo Dam Spillage: We have engineers to help govt prevent such an incident – UTAG

The University of Ghana branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the government in finding a long-term solution to the issue of flooding caused by the spillage of water from the Akosombo Dam.

The association believes that working with the university engineering department and relevant authorities, measures can be devised to manage water discharge to avoid the extensive flooding seen recently.

The Volta River Authority (VRA) is currently discharging excess water from the Akosombo and Kpong dams, resulting in severe flooding in downstream communities in the Eastern and Volta Regions. The affected individuals are requesting support after losing their homes and livelihoods.

“The long-term solution is to do a proper analysis of the volume of water that is coming in the dam by having various monitoring systems in place as a measure. We have a lot of civil engineers, structural engineers and environmental scientists who can help in designing systems to monitor the volume of water and calculate accurately how long and much the level is going to rise and the rate at which we need to make sure that we don’t even get to the dangerous levels that will affect the dam and also make sure that the volume of water is not too much to displace people from their settled homes,” he said.

In response to the flooding caused by the spillage of water from the Akosombo Dam, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has established a 13-member inter-ministerial committee.

This committee will be responsible for coordinating the government’s response to assist those affected by the flood. The flooding has resulted in significant damage to properties and displacement of people in affected communities.

  • Akosombo Dam Spillage: Residents may suffer rashes, diarrhoea, typhoid, and more – Health officials warn

Akosombo Dam Spillage: Residents may suffer rashes, diarrhoea, typhoid, and more – Health officials warn

The Volta Regional Health Directorate is expressing concern over the potential outbreak of waterborne diseases in the aftermath of the flooding incident in certain districts of the Volta Region.

This concern arises from the inundation of numerous latrines and open sanitation facilities with floodwater due to the Akosombo Dam spillage.

In response to the situation, Stella Kumedzro, the Volta Regional Environmental Health Officer, has emphasized the importance of providing safe drinking water to the affected communities and has made an appeal to the authorities for this purpose.

“Most of the people I saw still use that surface water for cooking, bathing, and other household chores. So the implications for public health are that it will trigger water-related diseases, skin rashes, diarrhea, typhoid, and so on. And so it is a very terrible situation at hand. I want to appeal to all well-meaning Ghanaians, our wonderful development partners, to come to the aid of residents of Mepe in the North Tongu district,” she said.

The North Tongu District Health Director, Michael Kofi Zigah, has additionally highlighted that the flooding incident is adversely impacting healthcare delivery in the district.

“Currently, a lot of communities have been displaced in the district. Once communities are displaced, they will not have access to the regular facilities they used to have access to. They will not have access to portable water, sanitary facilities, and routine health services,” he said.

“Because it is more or less like a campout. And that is affecting service delivery and the health of the people. But the fortunate thing is that as a district, we managed to operationalize a mobile clinic here,” he added.

  • Highest court in India to make decision regarding same-sex marriage

Highest court in India to make decision regarding same-sex marriage

Aditi and Susan didn’t fall in love when they first met at a book club in Mumbai.

“We didn’t like each other at all,” Anand, a filmmaker, said happily as she remembered the meeting. “We always disagreed with each other’s opinions on the books we were reading. ”

After a few weeks, the two women saw each other at a phone store. Dias purposely didn’t pay attention to Anand.

She made a big effort to ignore me. “But luckily, or maybe luckily for both of us, we met each other at the phone counter,” Anand said. We greeted each other and gave each other our phone numbers.

Over ten years later, Anand and Dias have created a life together.

But they cannot get married in their home country.

India, which is the biggest democracy and has the most people, does not accept same-sex marriage. This means that millions of LGBTQ couples are not able to receive legal benefits connected to marriage, such as adoption, insurance, and inheritance.

The current law only recognizes one of them as the legal parent of their son, which affects important decisions like who can make medical choices for him.

But, things might be about to change.

India’s highest court, the Supreme Court, has been hearing arguments from activists since April about a significant case. The proceedings are being broadcasted live to the public, and tens of thousands of people are watching it every day.

People who support the rights of 18 petitioners say that India should start treating LGBTQ people as equal citizens according to its constitution.

They said in a recent court filing that these unions were an idea for people in cities and of high social status, and therefore not wanted in the country.

The court is going to make a decision soon.

If the activists succeed, it could greatly alter what is usually a very traditional and conservative country.

“I want my son to have two parents who are legally and officially recognized,” said Dias, who is one of the 18 people petitioning, just like Anand. “And that’s why we think this petition matters to us. ”

Hindu stories from many years ago tell about men who turn into women, and sacred texts talk about characters who are neither male nor female. Same-sex sex was made illegal and only straight couples could get married in India in 1860 by the British rulers.

After that, the LGBTQ community in India, which is probably one of the biggest in the world because of the country’s 1. 4 billion people, has been treated poorly and excluded by society.

Both of these laws from the colonial period were still being used even 70 years after India became independent in 1947. These laws were no longer being used in the country they came from, England and Wales, who made same-sex intercourse legal in 1967 and same-sex marriage legal in 2013.

For almost ten years, Narendra Modi, the leader of India, and his ruling party, the BJP, have wanted to get rid of India’s connection to its past as a colony. They have changed the names of streets and cities and have promoted the idea of India being in control of its own future. However, the laws in Victoria that govern same-sex marriage are a remnant of the past from when the country was a colony. His party has been working hard to keep these laws in place.

In 2017, when Vishwa and Vivek got married, being gay was still against the law and could result in up to 10 years in jail. They had a small Hindu ceremony at Vishwa’s parents’ apartment near New Delhi. They only invited a few of their closest friends and family.

We had to do it fast. Vivek, who works for a non-profit organization, said that it had to be short. “My family was not there. ”

In that year, the talented Indian filmmaker, Karan Johar, wrote about the experience of being homosexual in India.

“I don’t need to loudly announce my sexual orientation as everyone already knows it,” he wrote in his book “An Unsuitable Boy. ” I will not say this because in my country, I could possibly go to jail for it.

However, it seems like people’s opinions and behaviors are starting to shift.

In 2018, the Supreme Court made a decision to end a law that made same-sex intercourse a crime. However, they did not change the law that only allows heterosexual couples to get married.

In the past few years, the movie industry and big cities in India have become more accepting of same-sex relationships. Bollywood, the influential Hindi-film industry, and cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru now celebrate pride month with parades and big events.

Vishwa believes that these wins are great for the community and have motivated people to keep trying to change the law, despite strong opposition from the government. He said that even if the judge ruled against the people making the request, there could still be some positive aspects.

It may not result in a victory. Most of us have accepted it without any problems,” Vishwa said. We believe that if the Supreme Court agrees with us, it will help us in the long run. We are prepared to keep fighting.

No matter what the court says, its decision will impact many people in India for a very long time.

Famous chef and LGBTQ supporter Suvir Saran is one of many who disagree with the government’s position. He believes that the government is showing that India does not accept people for who they are.

In areas with a lot of discrimination in the countryside, the consequences of revealing your true identity can be very serious, according to Saran.

If you don’t have good education or basic things for living, you’re in a bad situation. Saran said that you might feel damaged or hurt even before you understand your sexual identity.

Anish Gawde, who started Pink List India, a group that keeps watch on Indian politicians and their views on LGBTQ issues, mentioned that a lot of people have been expelled from their homes and made to live alone because they do not have any support.

Gawde said that marriage equality is very important to many queer people in India. “They keep loving each other even though people judge them and try to hold them back. ”

Vivek wants a positive decision to make his relationship with his husband recognized and accepted by more people.

“I want to be recognized as Vishwa’s legal partner,” he said. Marriage is an agreement between two people that is recognized by society. It is also an agreement about money. The privileges given to opposite-sex couples are extremely important for people like us to create a life together.

After asking the highest court for help, Dias explained that she now understands they are not doing this only for themselves, but for the many people who cannot afford to fight.

Now, many people are working together to take action. “I’m doing this for people who can’t do it themselves, just as much as I’m doing it for myself,” she explained.

Anand said yes, adding that their home conversation turned into a big movement that brought together India’s LGBTQ community.

She asked if we can be equal.

  • The SSNIT Scheme has 1.8 million members – Ignatius Baffour Awuah

The SSNIT Scheme has 1.8 million members – Ignatius Baffour Awuah

The Minister of Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions, Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah has disclosed that as of March 2023, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Scheme had approximately 1.8 million members. This figure indicates that roughly 8.1 million people within Ghana’s estimated working population of 9.9 million do not have any form of social security coverage

“The overwhelming importance of digitalisation today is there for everybody to see. I call on social security institutions within West Africa to take advantage of the emergence of digital technologies to bridge the wide coverage gap,” Mr Baffour Awuah stated at the SSNIT – International Social Security Association (ISSA) Technical Seminar in Accra.

The two-day meeting, themed “Digitalisation to Leverage Extension of Social Security Coverage in West Africa,” has drawn participants from across the West African sub-region.

The Minister pointed out that in Ghana, social security coverage has primarily concentrated on the formal sector, which accounts for 27.3 percent of the estimated working population of 9.9 million. He also mentioned that approximately 600,000 self-employed individuals now have some form of social security coverage.

Moreover, the Government’s digitalization agenda has played a significant role in the Employment, Labour, and Pensions sector in recent years. The Government is currently testing the Ghana Labour Market Information System (GLMIS), which is a web-based repository of labor market data and information. The GLMIS allows employers and jobseekers to connect regarding job vacancies, skills in demand, and other related matters. One of its unique features is that it provides real-time labor market information for policymakers, aiding in evidence-based national development planning, including the establishment of robust social protection programs.

Furthermore, the Government is leveraging digital technology to introduce a new software for the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), which aims to automate regulatory processes, ensure real-time monitoring, and safeguard pension funds and investments.

This software will enable beneficiaries and service providers to interact with the NPRA remotely, saving time and money. It will simplify pension enrollment processes through the Ghana Card, streamlining the procedure and reducing the need for extensive documentation.

“Subsequently, this has led to a marked improvement in social security administration with enrolment increasing steadily.”

The Minister emphasized that the government will continue to harness technology to make SSNIT’s services more accessible to the public. In Africa, countries have been introducing innovations in social protection programs to enhance coverage. Despite these initiatives, social protection coverage remains relatively low in Africa.

According to the ISSA’s 2023 Report on Social Security Developments and Trends in Africa, only 27.1 percent of older persons in Africa receive old-age benefits, compared to a global average of 77.5 percent. Similarly, the report revealed that only 17.4 percent of the population in Africa is covered by at least one social protection benefit, compared to a global figure of 46.9 percent.

Ghana currently hosts the West Africa Liaison Office for the ISSA, taking over this role from Ivory Coast, which had hosted the office for several years.

No Bra Day: 5 benefits of going braless

Indeed, the comfort and health aspects of wearing bras can vary greatly from person to person, depending on factors like the type of bra, body shape, breast size, and personal preferences.

Some people find bras to be uncomfortable and choose not to wear them for that reason. It’s essential to consider what works best for your body and comfort when deciding whether or not to wear a bra.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, and individual choice should be respected.

Going braless can have some surprising benefits, including:

    1. Improved Comfort: Going braless can be more comfortable, especially for individuals who find bras restrictive or uncomfortable.
    2. Better Blood Circulation: Bras can sometimes restrict blood flow, and going without one can promote better circulation.
    3. Natural Breast Support: Some women find that their breast tissues become stronger and more self-supporting when they don’t wear a bra regularly.
    4. Improved Posture: Going braless can encourage better posture, as it forces you to engage your chest muscles for support.
    5. Enhanced Body Confidence: Many women report feeling more confident and empowered when they choose to go braless.

However, it’s important to note that these benefits may not apply to everyone, and the decision to wear or not wear a bra should be a matter of personal comfort and choice. It’s essential to consider your individual needs and preferences when deciding whether or not to go braless.

There’s unity in the Ghanaian music industry – S3fa

Ghanaian musician S3fa, has challenged the notion of disunity among Ghanaian musicians, stating that it is a misconception created by social media commentators.

During a recent interview on Property FM in Cape Coast, the artist behind the song “Echoke” emphasized that the perception of disunity is driven by misleading opinions on social media.

“The funny thing is that they say that the people outside, that means you haven’t even seen it, and it’s just things that are being put on social media that they’re judging from,” S3fa explained.

She also emphasised the support Ghanaian artistes exhibit during shows, especially in December, to demonstrate their unity and mutual respect.

S3fa emphasized that even though Ghanaian musicians may not always appear to have a strong public bond, they are, in fact, united. She explained that artists are focused on personal and career development, which can explain why they may not frequently be seen partying together or in the public eye.

“I think that in the industry, we are okay, and we’re friendly as colleagues, especially when it gets to December. You know all these artistes that do shows, and you have colleagues going to support them all the time. I do it all the time, so there’s unity,” S3fa stated emphatically.

“So you might not see us partying all the time because everybody is busy working,” she added.

Cardi B explains why she doesn’t rap about personal struggles

American rapper Cardi B has candidly explained her decision to avoid inserting her most personal circumstances into her music. During an interview on Complex’s Hot Ones, the Bronx rap superstar discussed her choice to rap about what she wants, rather than what others believe she should include in her songs.

She mentioned that some people advise her to incorporate her pain and struggles into her music, but she believes that the masses may not be able to relate to her experiences. She expressed the view that the average person may have different priorities and concerns and might not connect with her personal struggles.

“A lot of people tell me I should put my pain, my struggle, in my music,” Cardi B began. “A lot of my pain, or struggles, or whatever the crap is going on, the masses might not be able to relate. The masses might not be able to relate. Like it’s like, oh my gosh, they’re tearing a new asshole on Twitter on me because I said this, this, and that.”

Cardi B indicated that she prefers to create music that is fun and entertaining, rather than focusing on addressing her challenges and personal issues in her songs. This approach allows her to make music that appeals to a wider audience and provides a sense of enjoyment and escape from the daily grind.

“I like fun. I like fun. So, I feel like, my intro, it should be like, just me popping my shit, me popping my shit, and then after that, iight let’s pop some puss. Pop my shit, then pop some puss!”

  • My facial mark is part of my identity,I am not a northerner – Zionfelix explains

My facial mark is part of my identity,I am not a northerner – Zionfelix explains

Popular Ghanaian blogger Nana Yaw Felix Adomako Mensah, popularly known as ZionFelix has explained the reason behind the prominent mark on his face, which is often mistaken for tribal identification. He shared the story behind the mark to provide clarity on its origin and significance.

In an interview with Accra FM, he said “According to my parents, I often would get sick when I was a child so they took me to a lot of places for a remedy,” Zionfelix said.

Zionfelix revealed that the marks on his face are not the only marks on his body. He pointed to other marks on the back of both wrists, the sides of his head, his forehead, and elbow joints.

“Most of them have vanished but the biggest one is the one on my right cheek so that’s what people see,” he said touching the mark.

He noted that currently, he does not fall sick often – something his doctor has said “could be a problem”.

According to Zionfelix, his doctor fears when he becomes elderly, “around 40, heading to 50” thereabouts, “all the sickness will pile up on you”. Thus, he was advised to make regular checkups a habit.

On his supposed resistance to sickness, the doctor, he said, informed him “it has to do with your blood group”. He expressed belief in this by recalling “while in Legon (University of Ghana), I am not sure I got sick during the entire four years I was there. I can even go seven years without getting sick”.

Zionfelix emphasized the importance of regular checkups, as advised by his doctor, and underscored the importance of taking his health seriously.

He also clarified that despite the misconception that he is a northerner, he is not. He pointed out that Joe Mettle, another popular Ghanaian artist, also has similar marks but is not from northern Ghana, highlighting that these marks are not indicative of a particular tribe or region.

He stated he is not bothered in the least about having the marks or any stigma attached to it, however: “I’m okay. I grew up with this so I’m okay. I have not even given a thought to it before.”

“Even if I am a northerner, there’s nothing wrong with it,” he said, shrugging a little.

Nana Romeo, who was interviewing the vlogger, wondered if he would take up an offer to surgically clear the mark.

Zionfelix readily answered: “It’s part of my identity so, no. It’d change me.”

Rather, he said there is a scar he got from playing wildly when he was young which would not mind having plastic surgery to correct.

‘I get inspiration from other artists’- Kuami Eugene on song theft accusations

Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene, has denied claims that he “steals” melodies from other artists and incorporates them into his songs. He believes that he draws “inspiration” from other songs, and he suggests that this is a common practice among artists in the industry.

Kuami Eugene has faced controversies regarding allegations that he borrows melodies, lyrics, and even beats from other artists without proper acknowledgment or permission. Some creatives, including rapper CJ Biggerman, Docta Flow, and Seth Frimpong, have criticized him for this practice.

During a live Twitter space discussion with media personality Berla Mundi, Kuami Eugene expressed his surprise at social media trolls who accuse him of such behavior. He referred to some of these critics as “hypocrites” who may complain about his methods but still enjoy his music. This debate highlights the complex issue of artistic inspiration, influence, and plagiarism in the music industry.

“It baffles me because I feel like Twitter is one platform where the people there seem to be very knowledgeable about things that go on in the industry, and sometimes they sound like they know what they’re talking about. But then again you look at some other people on that same platform and it seems like they have no idea what they’re talking about.

“Either that or they’re hypocrites because they still listen to artistes like Burna Boy even though he picks inspiration from other songs and they never complain. But for our own people, the same people complaining are the same people jamming to the song,” he said.

He insisted that every creative draws “inspiration” from other art and people rather chastise him when he does the same.

“I’m not the only artiste to do this, every big act does this. Burna Boy does it, Joey B does it, Kelvyn Boy does it, but whenever Kuami Eugene does it, it becomes news,” he said.

Kuami Eugene urged his critics to be well-informed and knowledgeable about his creative projects before passing judgment.

‘Keep my name out of your mouth’- Chris Rock tells Jada Pinkett Smith

Comedian and actor Chris Rock reportedly dislikes being continually entangled in controversies involving stars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. More than a year after the incident where the Oscar-winning actor slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, the comedian is said to be frustrated that Jada keeps referencing him in her interviews and promoting her upcoming memoir, “Worthy.”

In one interview, Jada claimed that Chris Rock had once asked her out on a date, mistakenly thinking that she had separated from Will due to divorce rumors. This comment has apparently irked Chris Rock, and he wishes for Jada to refrain from mentioning him in her interviews and public discussions. This situation highlights the complexities of public figures’ interactions and the repercussions of their public statements and actions.

A source told Daily Mail: “Chris hates that she keeps bringing it up and bringing up the other revelations about Chris asking her on a date and all of that.”

“Chris has said his piece on the entire Will Smith slap, but now with these new revelations from Jada that her and Will have been living separate lives it is just another WTF moment in the whole saga from these past few years between Chris, her, and Will,” the source added.

The informant says of the comedian: “He is a relatively private person and was just getting to a point where people may have started to move on, but now it is back in the limelight, and it’s just frustrating that everything is coming back to the forefront.” The so-called insider added: “Chris is over it and would actually love for her to keep his name out of her damn mouth.”

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Jada said: “I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce. And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce.” The mother of two recalled, “So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.”

In the same interview, the “Gotham” alum also revealed that she hasn’t talked to Chris since Will slapped him at the 2022 Academy Awards and explained what she thinks might be the roots of the misunderstanding between them. In another interview, Jada claimed that Will hadn’t called her his “wife” before the Oscars incident.

Speaking to NBC’s Hoda Kotb, she expressed her confusion when her estranged husband defended her against Chris’ joke, “What is going on? Now, first of all, I’m really shocked. ‘Cause, mind you, I’m not there. We haven’t called each other husband or wife in a long time.” “I’m like, ‘What is going on right now?’ ” Jada continued. ” ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth,’ right? And now I’m really worried for Will, because I don’t know what’s going on.”

Ghanaian musician Mzbel has expressed her frustration with trying to collaborate with female musicians in her country. While she didn’t name any specific artists, she stated that her attempts to get female musicians to feature in her songs have been unsuccessful.

This can be a common challenge in the music industry, where collaborations are sometimes hindered by various factors, including scheduling conflicts, creative differences, or personal preferences.

In an interview with JoyPrime, she said, “I have tried several times getting some girls to work with. They always give me excuses, and they never showed up. But when you call the guys, they are willing to come”.

Mzbel highlighted the potential for a brighter future in the Ghanaian music industry if female musicians could come together and collaborate on projects. She emphasized the need for more unity and cooperation among female artists, suggesting that they work together on music features.

Mzbel noted that this is a different scenario compared to male artists, who are more inclined to collaborate on music projects. Encouraging collaboration among female musicians can not only enhance the quality of music but also create a supportive community within the industry.

“If there is such a thing as past lives, I definitely think that Pac and I have traveled a few together,” she said of Shakur, whom she became friends with as a teen when they were both living in Baltimore, Maryland.

As for any type of romantic connection, she said that “wasn’t possible” because “there was no chemistry between us.”

When the interviewer insisted that their chemistry was apparent to others, Pinkett Smith pushed back.

“It’s that friendship-love chemistry,” she said.

“It was almost like God made us that way,” Pinkett Smith continued. “It was like, look, I’m going to put y’all together, right? Y’all are going to be a dynamic duo. But I’m going to tell you right now, I’m going to make it so y’all are not going to be able to get together ‘cause that just wasn’t the purpose.”

Jada Pinkett Smith has been engaged in press activities for her upcoming memoir, “Worth,” scheduled for release on October 17. In the book, she writes about her relationship with Tupac Shakur, offering a deeper insight into their connection and the impact it had on her life. This memoir promises to provide readers with a more profound understanding of her personal experiences and relationships.

In a new clip from “Jada’s Story – An NBC News Special,” Pinkett Smith returns to the 2022 Oscars. She said she was surprised by her husband slapping and yelling at Chris Rock to “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth!”

Rock had made a joke about Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia hair loss.

“First of all, I’m really shocked, because mind you, I’m not there,” Pinkett Smith told Hoda Kotb during the special. “We haven’t called each other husband and wife in a long time.”

    2. Scar Reduction: Onion extract has been used to minimize the appearance of scars. It may help fade scars over time when applied regularly.
    3. Hair Growth: The sulfur in onions can stimulate hair follicles and improve hair growth. Onion juice can be applied to the scalp to promote thicker, healthier hair.
    4. Dandruff Control: Onion juice can also help combat dandruff and maintain a healthy scalp. It has antifungal properties that can help with various scalp issues.
    5. Anti-Aging Properties: The antioxidants in onions can combat free radicals that contribute to premature aging. Regular consumption of onions may help keep your skin looking youthful.
    6. Acne Treatment: Onions possess antibacterial properties that can be useful in treating acne. Applying onion juice to affected areas may help reduce inflammation and prevent breakouts.
    7. Sunburn Relief: The soothing properties of onions can alleviate the discomfort of sunburn. Applying a mixture of onion juice and yogurt to sunburned skin can provide relief.
    8. Detoxification: Onions are known to support the body’s detoxification processes, helping to remove toxins and impurities from the skin, which can lead to a clearer complexion.
    9. Nail Strength: Soaking your nails in a mixture of onion juice and water may help strengthen them and prevent breakage.

While onions can offer several beauty benefits, it’s essential to use them carefully, as their strong odor and potential skin irritation can be drawbacks.
