MoMo merchant jailed six months for impersonating a police officer

A Mobile Money (MoMo) merchant, Mr. Richard Sie, who impersonated a public officer, has been sentenced by an Accra Circuit Court for his role in a case involving the unlawful release of an individual from police custody.

The impersonation involved Mr. Sie posing as the Oti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Charles Domanban, to order the release of his accomplice, Ismaila Issaka, from police custody after Issaka was found in possession of a significant quantity of Indian hemp and narcotic drugs.

Both Mr. Sie and Mr. Issaka pleaded guilty to their respective charges, with Sie facing charges of falsely pretending to be a public officer and Issaka charged with unlawful possession of narcotic drugs.

The court, presided over by Mrs. Afia Owusuaa Appiah, sentenced Issaka to a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to GH₵2,400.00, in default of which he would serve six months in prison with hard labor. As for Mr. Sie, he was sentenced to six months in prison with hard labor for his bold impersonation of a senior police officer.

The incident occurred when a police combat team conducted random searches on occupants of vehicles in the Teshie Bush Road area, leading to Issaka’s arrest for the possession of Indian hemp. Upon his arrest, he contacted Mr. Sie, who impersonated the Oti Regional Police Commander in an attempt to secure Issaka’s release. However, Sie was subsequently arrested for his impersonation.

The seized dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, were sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination, and the results confirmed that they contained cannabis with a gross weight of 24.66 grams.

Prisoned opposition leader in Senegal resumes hunger strike

The leader of the opposition in Senegal, Ousmane Sonko, says he has started a hunger strike again.

He was arrested a few months ago because he was involved with a group of terrorists and he tried to harm the country’s safety.

He claims that President Macky Sall started the charges to stop him from running in the upcoming presidential elections.

In July, Mr Sall finally made a decision about his future in politics. He announced that he will not try to become president for a third time in 2024.

Sonko said he took action again to show his support for other activists who were arrested unfairly for speaking their political beliefs.

Since 2021, there have been lots of demonstrations in Senegal to show support for Sonko, and as a result, many people have lost their lives.

‘Fake lawyer’ from Kenya enters a not-guilty plea

A man in Kenya has been accused of pretending to be a lawyer even though he doesn’t have the proper qualifications. He has told the court that he is innocent.

A person named Brian Mwenda Njagi was taken to court in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, on Wednesday. This comes after he was arrested on Tuesday.

He is accused of creating fake legal papers to work as a lawyer and stealing others’ identities.

He is called the “fake lawyer” by local news outlets. They say he has won many court cases even though he is not trained as a lawyer.

However, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) disagrees with this. “From what we know, Mr. Mwendwa has been going to court for about eight or nine months. It seems unlikely that he could have completed that many cases unless they were small claims courts that finish within 60 days,” said Eric Theuri, the LSK chairman, in an interview with the BBC.

Our investigations have revealed that he does not actually have a real law degree from Strathmore University. Additionally, we have discovered that the bar admission letter he possesses, which grants him permission to practice law, has a forged signature of the former chief justice Evans Gicheru, who served between 2003 and 2011.

But, the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) in Kenya has praised him as a smart young person who has achieved success without traditional qualifications.

Mike Sonko, who has caused much disagreement during his time as governor of Nairobi, supports him as well.

Mr Mwenda, who is out of jail until his trial, says he did not do anything wrong and plans to run for office in the 2027 elections.

Killed tourists were newlyweds from UK and South Africa – president of Uganda

The President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, expressed his disapproval of the murder of two tourists, who were on their honeymoon, and a guide by people believed to be terrorists connected to the Islamic beliefs.

Three people were murdered and their car was set on fire in the Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is next to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mr Museveni said that the terrorists attacked innocent people and it was a sad event for the newly married couple who were visiting Uganda for their honeymoon.

It used to be called Twitter.

The tourists came from the United Kingdom and South Africa. Their guide was from Uganda.

Mr Museveni said that the killings were done by some people from a group called the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). He said that this group is a small group of terrorists who are trying to hide from us in Congo.

On Sunday, he mentioned that Ugandan forces attacked and destroyed four ADF bases in DR Congo by using airstrikes. However, he also mentioned that some militants were attempting to go back into Uganda.

The president explained that the recent attack occurred because of a few mistakes made in dealing with the remaining threats.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority protected tourists while they were in the park. But it seems that the tourists were coming and going by themselves. “They took advantage of this gap,” he said.

He expressed his sympathy to the families of the victims, stating that the country’s UK office would provide assistance to the families of the couple who were killed.

Mr Museveni said that the Ugandan security authorities will make sure not to repeat these errors and completely eliminate the ADF.

  • Synagogue attacked in Berlin as anti-Semitic crimes increase

Synagogue attacked in Berlin as anti-Semitic crimes increase

The Jewish community in Berlin is upset because someone threw two petrol bombs at a synagogue. This has happened at a time when there has been an increase in antisemitic incidents in some European countries.

The police said that two individuals tried to start a fire by throwing bottles filled with liquid that were on fire.

Director Anna Segal said that we could start to feel the tensions increasing. She said the people in the community have felt scared and in danger lately.

The German leader Olaf Scholz is very angry about the attack.

There was violence in other parts of Berlin last night during protests against Israel. The police said that emergency services were assaulted at the Brandenburg Gate.

The most recent attacks happened when Lebanon’s Hezbollah, a militant group supported by Iran, asked for a “day of rage” in response to an explosion at a hospital in the Gaza Strip. It is believed that many people have died in the explosion.

The main organization of Jewish people in Germany, known as the Central Council of Jews, stated that the expression “day of rage” is more than just words – it is a form of psychological terror that can result in actual physical attacks. The synagogue also has a center where the community can gather, a school for young children, and a school for older students with 130 kids.

Anna Segal told the BBC that the people in the community were feeling anxious and wanted more safety. She said, “We were aware that it was only a matter of time and it’s not over yet. ”
There weren’t many signs of the petrol bombs that were burned in front of the synagogue and Jewish community center at around 03:45 (02:45 GMT).

In Germany, Jewish places usually have continuous police protection. Reports say that police officers were present when the attack occurred.

The police held a man for a short time after he rode a scooter to the building and ran towards the synagogue. He was shouting slogans against Israel.

Barriers have been placed around the synagogue and Jewish community center in the middle of Berlin. Police officers stood along the street and a small police booth was set up outside the building.

France and Germany have both said that people are not allowed to have pro-Palestinian demonstrations. The police used tear gas and water cannons to stop a rally that was not allowed, which took place in the middle of Paris, last week.

In response to an increase in incidents of hatred towards Jewish people, the French Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin, stated that anyone who harms a French Jew will receive a very quick and strong reaction from the government.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the actions of Hamas have caused a new wave of violence between Israel and the Palestinians.

There is an increase in actions against Jewish people, including in Europe. Synagogues have been damaged or destroyed by vandals. Hateful words and false information are spreading very quickly, which is causing concern. “And she said that this is something we cannot accept. ”

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed anger and strong disapproval towards the increasing number of antisemitic events in the UK, describing them as “disgusting”.

The Community Security Trust is asking universities to quickly and resolutely address anti-Semitism and keep Jewish students safe. The CST, which protects Jewish people, said there were 36 cases of antisemitism on campuses from 7 to 16 October.

  • Here are seven diseases that can kill you within 24 hours

Here are seven diseases that can kill you within 24 hours

While there are various diseases that can be life-threatening, it’s essential to clarify that very few diseases can actually kill a person within 24 hours. However, some highly acute and rapidly progressing conditions may have this potential, including:

    1. Meningococcal Meningitis: This bacterial infection can lead to severe inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. If not treated promptly, it can be fatal within hours.
    2. Ebola Virus: The Ebola virus can cause a severe and often fatal illness. It progresses rapidly, and in severe cases, death can occur within a day or two.
    3. Rabies: If a person is bitten by a rabid animal and doesn’t receive post-exposure prophylaxis promptly, rabies can be fatal within days to weeks after the onset of symptoms.
    4. Sepsis: Sepsis is a severe infection that can lead to multiple organ failure and death. In some cases, the condition can progress rapidly, resulting in death within a day.
    5. Anthrax: Inhalation anthrax, which is caused by inhaling spores of the Bacillus anthracis bacterium, can be fatal within a short period if not treated early.
    6. Tetanus: Tetanus, caused by the bacterium Clostridium tetani, can result in severe muscle stiffness and spasms. In some cases, uncontrolled spasms can lead to death within hours or days.
    7. Fulminant Hepatitis: Certain forms of acute liver disease can progress very rapidly, leading to liver failure and death within a short timeframe.

It’s important to note that the above conditions are relatively rare, and timely medical intervention can often prevent a fatal outcome. If you suspect someone may have a severe illness or infection, seek immediate medical attention. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in these cases.

  • Rev Jenny Gaffin asks more individuals to accept Ukrainian migrants

Rev Jenny Gaffin asks more individuals to accept Ukrainian migrants

A vicar has made close friendships with Ukrainian refugees she gave shelter to and wants others to think about doing the same.

Rev Jenny Gaffin, who lives in Hayling Island, Hampshire, got her motivation from the tale of her grandparents who had to flee their homes after World War Two.

She said that having two families in the house made it feel lively and happy.

Rev Gaffin was talking while the National Audit Office was saying good things about the Homes For Ukraine program.

The program allows people to support Ukrainians who are seeking safety from the war by sponsoring them and their families. Sponsors are given a three-year visa to stay in the UK.

Rev Gaffin said: “When I first saw the war in Ukraine on video, it made me think of my own grandparents who had to flee Hungary after the Second World War. ”

So obviously, I wanted to do whatever I could. I had an extra room in my house and I really wanted to invite people to stay with me.

She helped two families – Kateryna and her seven-year-old daughter Nelya, and Anna and her five-year-old son Leonid – by giving them support.

Moving from living alone in a vicarage to having a family life with a language barrier was a big surprise initially, but in a very positive way, said the person. However, they also mentioned that the situation turned out to be a great and enjoyable experience.

Kind and giving people like Rev Gaffin helped the government quickly provide temporary support to Ukrainians looking for shelter. They have supported 131,000 Ukrainians who came to the UK since March 2022.
According to the National Audit Office, around 8% of Ukrainian refugees might become homeless after the program comes to an end.

Helpful payments for host families have recently gone up from £350 to £500 per month.

Rev Gaffin encouraged others to join the scheme but advised anyone interested to be realistic about what they can contribute.

“I have made a friend who I believe will be a part of my life forever. If you have a place in your home, please think about offering it to me. It’s a great thing to do,” she said.

  • Becoming a father has changed me- Ayigbe Edem

Becoming a father has changed me- Ayigbe Edem

Ghanaian rapper Ayigbe Edem has opened up about how he has become more mindful of how he presents himself since becoming a father.

Edem shared his thoughts during an interview on MX24 TV, where he discussed how fatherhood has had a significant impact on his behavior and decisions.

He revealed that his nine-year-old son has become increasingly observant and aware of the world around him. This awareness led to a humorous incident when his son questioned a critical comment made about Edem on television, highlighting the influence of parenthood on the rapper’s life.

“Having kids at an early stage is a different conversation, but when they are getting older, they begin to know the world around them. I remember one funny incident where I traveled and I came back and my son was like, ‘daddy, who is that on TV talking about the fact that you don’t deserve to go to the Grammy? His beard is ugly,’ So I showed him the video of the guy. So now he’s nine, he’s more aware,” he revealed.

Ayigbe Edem emphasized that he has been forced to be more circumspect about his behavior and public image, as he aims to be a positive role model for his son.

He added that his approach is centered on practicality, emphasizing the values he wants his children to learn.

“And so it’s more of just trying to be practical, leaving what I want them to learn. So working hard, being honest with them, trying to get them to understand through what I do that you have to be determined, you have to be diligent. So at this point, they are not babies, so it’s more of what you do for them to learn from instead of what you say most of the time,” he said.

Edem got married in 2014 to longtime girlfriend, Stacy Osekere and they have three children together, Khloe; 12 Johnathan; nine, and Eliana; three.

Kenya begins to pull its residents out of Israel

Kenya has started to bring back its people from Israel after the war began 10 days ago.

The first group of 11 people who are being moved to a safer place is expected to come today, as shared by Roseline Njogu, a senior person responsible for helping Kenyan citizens living abroad.

Right now, more than 500 Kenyan citizens are registered with the Kenyan embassy in Israel. Many of them live in places that are safe and not affected by the fighting happening there.

On 7 October, Palestinian Hamas militants attacked Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip in a way that had never happened before. Israel has responded with attacks on Gaza, and they are likely going to send troops into the area as well.

At the start of the conflict, some people from Kenya left on their own.

According to the East African newspaper, most Kenyans in Israel are students, people on religious trips, or those doing short scientific research programs.

  • My parents disapproved of my marriage due to religious differences – Okyeame Kwame

My parents disapproved of my marriage due to religious differences – Okyeame Kwame

Popular Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has revealed the challenges he faced in his marriage due to religious differences. He shared that his parents were initially opposed to his marriage to Annica Nsiah-Apau because of her affiliation with the Jehovah’s Witness faith.

According to Okyeame Kwame, his family, particularly his mother, did not welcome his wife because of her religious beliefs. This caused tension and uncertainty in their relationship, as there was no agreement between both families.

To address this issue, the couple made the decision to live separately from their parents, and over time, they were able to find common ground and reach an understanding regarding their marriage.

Okyeame Kwame mentioned that he only informed his parents about the marriage the night before the ceremony because he was not overly concerned about their opposition. As a result, the marriage was not blessed by his parents due to the religious differences.

“They [parents] never agreed to our marriage. We were going to play a show in Kumasi by then she was working in a law firm. When we got to Nkawkaw, she [Okyeame Kwame’s wife] said, ‘Okyeame, do you know that in Ghana we have three key elements in marriage?

“We have an ordinance, customary, Mohammedan, and another one. So with the people who don’t support our marriage, will they come and live with us?” Then I said ‘No’ right after that we went to register the marriage at KMA, Okyeame Kwame said while speaking in an interview with Angel FM.

He indicated that it made no sense for him to succumb to his mother’s pressure and ditch a lady he wanted because he would suffer if the other lady was not of good behavior.

Okyeame Kwame firmly stated that a marriage doesn’t necessarily require the blessing of parents to be successful. He emphasized that it is ultimately God who blesses a marriage, not humans.

“Both families loved each other but because of religion, they didn’t agree. I told my mum about the marriage a night before the marriage because I understood that I was not going to marry the lady for my mother but for myself.

“Since we won’t live together, why would I marry a lady she wants and not what I want? What will I do with her blessing? It’s God who blesses us not humans. My mother who will leave soon will choose a lady for me and then die, then the girl will misbehave towards me? Am I not a fool?” said Okyeame Kwame.

Okyeame Kwame married his wife, Annica Nsiah-Appau, in 2009, and the couple has been blessed with 2 children.

  • Venezuela takes action to ensure credible elections

Venezuela takes action to ensure credible elections

Government officials and opposition representatives from Venezuela have agreed to a plan that sets the foundation for fair presidential elections that everyone agrees should happen.

The government said they will ask other countries to come and watch the election happening later in 2024.

The 2018 election was thought to be unfair. The agreement was made in Barbados.

The agreement is a special achievement after 11 months of no progress in the talks.

However, experts say that it does not solve the problems that the opposition has been trying to fix.

There is no talk about freeing political prisoners or allowing certain opposition candidates to participate in the 2024 election.

The US, EU, Canada, and UK welcomed an agreement in Venezuela as an important step towards restoring democracy. They believe it is crucial for inclusive discussions to continue.

But it’s important to note that there is still a lot of work to be done. The statement asks for the immediate release of all people who have been unfairly arrested, for elections to be fair and independent, for the courts to be fair and independent, for freedom of speech (including for journalists), and for people to be treated with dignity and have the right to participate in politics.

The agreement signed on Tuesday has 12 points. These points include promises to make sure all candidates can use public and private media, and to ensure they can move freely and safely across the country.

The two groups have agreed to update the lists of voters, both in Venezuela and other countries, so that Venezuelans who have moved away can still vote.

However, there is already a disagreement about the qualifications that candidates need to have in order to run for the presidency.

The paper states that anyone who meets the requirements set by the constitution can register for the presidential election.

The leader of the opposition group, Gerardo Blyde, said that this could give a chance for opposition candidates who have been prevented from holding positions to “regain their rights. ”

However, the head of the government team, Jorge Rodríguez, seemed to say something different. He said that people who were not allowed to be candidates by the comptroller-general would not be allowed to participate in the 2024 election.

The problem is very controversial because many well-liked opposition leaders have been banned by the comptroller-general, who is a close friend of President Maduro.

One of the candidates in Sunday’s election to choose someone to represent the opposition in the 2024 election is believed to be María Corina Machado, who is considered the top contender.
The 56-year-old ex-legislator has said no to leaving the competition. She believes that if she becomes the opposition candidate on Sunday, the Maduro government will have to give in and allow her to participate.

The government hasn’t officially said who they will choose as their candidate, but many people think Mr. Maduro will run again.

The Maduro government wants the deal on Tuesday to help reduce the strict rules imposed by the US, which became stricter after his win in 2018. The US says his victory was not fair or valid.

The United States is very interested in resolving the crisis in Venezuela because a lot of Venezuelans have been forced to leave their country due to the bad economy, and many of them are going to the United States.

Venezuela has a lot of oil, more than any other country. If the US eases up on the restrictions they have on Venezuela’s oil industry, it would help both countries’ economies.

Nigerian police bust facility making illegal guns

The police have discovered a secret factory where a blacksmith was making illegal guns in Lagos, Nigeria.

During the operation, they said they confiscated barrel guns, pistols, cartridges, and drilling machines.

A well-known leader of a gang was one of over 30 people arrested.

Nigeria is facing a lot of safety problems, such as violent gangs, kidnappings for money, and an Islamic rebellion in the north.

Last month, the army found a place where guns were being made in the north-west part of Kaduna state.

AK-47 rifles, which are a type of submachine gun, and revolvers were some of the 26 weapons that were taken by authorities.

Last week, the police informed that armed groups were secretly bringing weapons into the south-eastern part of Anambra State from Cameroon.

The police said they found out who two blacksmiths were making weapons at the Lagos factory.

They were lined up with 30 other people who were also suspected of committing crimes. They will be accused of different crimes, like having illegal guns.

There is a belief that weapons were being provided to criminals all over the country.

Benjamin Hundeyin, who speaks for the police in Lagos State, said that the raid on the factory happened after a month of investigation. They received information about a blacksmith that led to the raid.

The police found an important person in a gang or cult who had two bullets for a 9mm gun. They believe this person killed someone from another cult in Lagos.

He and others who are believed to have done something wrong have not yet gone to court.

We don’t know much about the cult, but Nigeria has many of them even though they are not allowed.

The cults, also known as secret societies, have a structure like militia groups. They use special words to communicate and have symbols that represent their favorite weapon and color.

  • Biden supports Israel’s version of Gaza hospital attack

Biden supports Israel’s version of Gaza hospital attack

US President Joe Biden said that a dangerous explosion at a hospital in Gaza seems to have been caused by Palestinian militants. He supports Israel’s explanation of what happened while he is visiting the country.

Mr Biden arrived in Tel Aviv on Wednesday. He expressed feeling very sad and angry about the explosion.

Israel’s army stated that the explosion happened because a rocket fired by the Palestinians went off course.

However, officials from Palestine claimed that an attack by Israel’s air force directly hit the hospital.

The BBC is trying to confirm the number of people who have died, which is expected to be in the hundreds, and also find out what caused the explosion.

Mr Biden’s important visit has been affected by the explosion at Gaza’s Al-Ahli Arab Hospital on Tuesday evening. This worsened the already tense situation and caused protests in the area.

He arrived in Tel Aviv on Wednesday where he was warmly welcomed by Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, before they held a press conference together.

Mr Biden felt very sad and angry about the explosion at the hospital in Gaza yesterday.

“He said that from what he saw, it looks like the other team did it, not you,” he told Mr. Netanyahu “But there are many people who are unsure, so we need to face and conquer many challenges. ”

The US president said once again that he supports Israel and disapproves of the Palestinian group Hamas. Hamas attacked Israel from Gaza on 7 October, resulting in the deaths of 1,300 people, which was a very unusual and severe attack.

According to Palestinian health officials, about 3,000 people have died in Israeli attacks on Gaza in response to previous attacks.

Mr Biden had planned to go from Israel to Jordan to meet King Abdullah, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, and Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi. However, he had to cancel that part of his trip because of the explosion at the hospital on Tuesday.

Jordan cancelled the meeting and strongly criticized what they called “a terrible disaster and a very terrible crime committed during a war”. The White House said that the decision was made together and President Biden will talk to Mr. Abbas and Mr. Sisi when he flies back to the US.

The President of the United States is planning to meet with the group of people in charge of making decisions about war in Israel later today.

John Kirby, a spokesperson for the US National Security Council, said that he will ask difficult questions to gain a better understanding of Israel’s goals and objectives in the war in Gaza.

“He will ask difficult questions, but he will ask them in a friendly way,” Mr Kirby said to the reporters. He also mentioned that the US will emphasize the importance of providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza and the responsibility to prevent harm to civilians.

Officials said that Mr. Biden will meet with emergency workers who helped during the Hamas attack, and also with people who lost loved ones or have family members held hostage.

Israel has requested $10 billion in urgent military assistance from the United States. This request was reported by CBS News, a partner of the BBC, who cited sources familiar with the matter.

Officials in Gaza, a place controlled by Hamas, claim that 500 individuals lost their lives in the explosion that occurred at the hospital. A doctor described the tragic event as a “massacre. ”

Hamas accused Israel of committing a “war crime”. A person speaking for Mr. Abbas, who lives in the occupied West Bank, accused Israel of committing a very terrible crime.

However, the Israeli military claimed that they have evidence proving that their forces did not cause the explosion. They believe that it happened because the rockets launched by Palestinian Islamic Jihad misfired.

The spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, said that according to their information, Hamas looked at the reports and realized that it was actually an Islamic Jihad rocket that went off course. However, they made the choice to start a big media campaign to cover up what actually happened. “They exaggerated the number of people who were hurt. ”

Politicians pay some celebrities to partake in protests – Patience Nyarko

Gospel singer Patience Nyarko has made accusations that certain celebrities participate in protests because of their local interests and the money they receive from certain parties.

She lamented the nation’s economic difficulties, which have prompted some protests, but she questioned the sincerity of some of the protestors’ motivations.

During a Property FM interview that ATL FM aired, the W’afom crooner called certain protest-related injuries “senseless,” particularly when the victims are gaining financial gain.

“We are all here in Ghana when someone lost their sight through injury at protests and others had accidents which were quite senseless. When others are enriching themselves through protest and you join without knowing their intentions and after they give you just a sachet of water” she lamented.

She also said that some people are the faces of these protests, so it would be a very bad idea for anyone to go and get hurt there.

In addition, Patience Nyarko mentioned that some celebrities are paid by politicians to attend protests or front them.

Some people front these protests and so unknowingly if you attend and they spoil your eyes, you’d have wasted your eyes for nothing. Some celebrities go for protests due to their parochial interests and others also take money in order to attend these demonstrations”.

Gospel musician Patience Nyarko, best known for her song “W’afom Kwan,” has advised her fellow performers to put more emphasis on sharing the gospel than on showcasing their fashionable looks.

She stressed that since advancing Christ is the central message of a gospel artist, that should be your main priority.

Strongman shares how he and Amerado ended their ‘beef’

For those who have been devoted followers of the Ghanaian rap scene, the last thing anyone anticipated was a collaboration between two of the nation’s beloved rappers, Strongman and Amerado.

Despite both being products of the same record label, Mic Burners, the two artists had a history of not seeing eye to eye, which is not uncommon among rappers known for their competitive nature.

However, this strained relationship was destined to evolve. On January 6, 2023, Amerado released a new single titled “A Red Letter to Strongman,” which had a transformative impact despite prior exchanges of lyrical jabs between them.

In this new single, Amerado applauded him for soaring higher even as an independent. He also addressed their silent ‘beef’ saying, “I know in this game, brothers are rivals but the rivalry is not enmity, I adore you.”

Putin praised for making it to Xi global summit

Russian leader Vladimir Putin received a warm welcome at a worldwide meeting in Beijing, highlighting the growing friendship between China and Russia.

China’s President Xi Jinping organized a meeting to mark the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), his significant foreign and economic plan.

Mr Putin was considered the most important guest among leaders and officials from over 130 countries.

He has hardly ever left his country since he invaded Ukraine in February of last year.

He is not only losing support from other countries, but he has also been ordered to be arrested by the International Criminal Court for supposed war crimes in Ukraine.

It is very unlikely that Mr. Putin will be arrested in China because China is not part of the ICC. He and Mr Xi are very close friends. The Chinese leader said they have a very strong friendship before the war started.

On Wednesday, the events started with a special ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi and Mr. Putin walked into the hall side by side ahead of other leaders from different countries.

Mr Putin was also in the front and center position of the group photo, standing beside the Chinese president. After Mr Xi, he was the second person to speak. They later had a meeting that lasted for three hours.

Before Russia started its war on Ukraine, Mr. Putin used to have the most important position in previous Belt and Road summits.

China has been criticized by Western countries for supporting Russia and at the same time trying to show support for Ukraine.
On Wednesday, Mr. Putin was eager to repay the kindness. In his speech, he promised to help Mr. Xi’s big BRI project because it aligns with Russian ideas. He also praised our Chinese friends for their accomplishments.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a project where China has spent about one trillion dollars on investment and building projects globally.

He spoke to a group of representatives from developing countries, mainly from the Global South. He mentioned that Russia, China, and most countries around the world want to work together and make progress in their economy.

Mr Putin is visiting at a time when people are worried that China and Russia are joining forces to compete with the Western countries.

Both countries have spoken out against the domination of the US and want a world where power is shared among multiple countries.

China released two white papers before the BRI’s anniversary. These papers present the BRI as the foundation of a new world order which China sees as fairer and more welcoming to everyone.

In his speech filled with references to the Silk Road and interesting sayings, Mr. Xi kept emphasizing this point. He said the BRI shows progress and is the right way to go, and it will be looked upon favorably in the future.

He strongly criticized “fighting over beliefs, competing for power among nations, and forming alliances for political gain,” imposing sanctions without consensus, and separating supply chains. Beijing often complains about Washington for leading what it believes is an unfair type of global development.

On the other hand, the BRI has promoted cooperation that benefits everyone involved, where everyone contributes and makes things better.

Mr Xi also explained an eight-point plan for advancing the BRI. This includes supporting smaller projects, environmentally friendly development, and fostering honesty and trust.

The BRI has received praise for helping many countries grow, but people have also criticized it for causing debt problems, harming the environment, and encouraging corruption and wasteful projects.

The meeting in Beijing has drawn the attention of many countries, mainly from Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America. Other people at the event are Hungary’s leader, Viktor Orban, and officials from the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

  • I discovered 5Five not Bulldog- Fred Kyei Mensah

I discovered 5Five not Bulldog- Fred Kyei Mensah

Music producer and sound engineer, Fred Kyei Mensah, has vehemently asserted that he played a pivotal role in discovering the Hiplife group 5Five.

5Five, a prominent group composed of Papi, Killy, and Juno, was known for their hits like “African Girls,” “Move Back,” “Bossu Kena,” and more.

Fred Kyei Mensah shared his perspective during an interview with sit-in host Prince Benjamin (PB) on Accra 100.5 FM. During the interview, he expressed his frustration with certain radio presenters who, fueled by their on-air influence, have exploited their positions over the years, leaving him at a disadvantage.

He also expressed his satisfaction with how technological advancements have shifted the power to determine hits and cultivate stars from traditional media personalities to ordinary people on social media.

“Prince, I really suffered in the year 2000 and something in the hands of radio personalities,” he said.

He narrated how “people would come to my studio and I’d do a very nice demo – demos in those days were like the original – because that’s what was used to determine if you’d get help or not. I did this hoping when the person finds an [executive] producer, they’d bring them to me.

“Eventually, when they found the producer, they’d go and ask a certain radio presenter – they were the gatekeepers at that time – who’d tell them if they don’t programme their music at this particular producer’s studio, they will not play the music.”

Fred Kyei Mensah urged his audience to delve into the music of the 2000s and observe how only a handful of music producers were responsible for a significant portion of the songs played on the radio during that era.

He recalled how, when he listened to the radio during that time, he was frequently surprised to hear songs that featured beats resembling his own work, indicating that his influence and production style had a far-reaching impact on the music scene of that era.

He cited 5Five as a typical example.

“I discovered them and programmed all their beats but before I realised, the beat was playing somewhere and it had some of my elements in it. Yes, the Adabraka boys – I discovered them [5Five],” Fred Kyei Mensah said, noting: “At the time Samini was in school at St. Mary’s and they all used to come to my studio.”

He asserted, contrary to public belief, it was not music executive Bullgod, formerly Bulldog, who discovered 5Five.

“No, listen to me. I discovered them and did all their stuff for them, and then Bulldog took them and recorded them, and managed them. I didn’t hand them over [to Bulldog]. Listen carefully.

“Their first studio experience and music that came out, I was the one who programmed it and it was in my studio. I was hoping they’d get an [executive] producer and bring them to me,” Fred explained.

He said when Papi, disgruntled, fought with music producer Appietus over music royalties recently, “he told me a lot of things but I don’t want to say it here”.

The first song Fred Kyei Mensah, alias Fredyma, did for 5Five, “which was their first single, I did it about 20 years ago,” he noted.

He said “were it not for the destructive floods,” he would have still had the archives of all the artistes who came to his studio from the very beginning, to show.

“I recorded everybody in a book, including the time they came to the studio,” he said.

“Were it not for my demo, who would have had an interest in them?” the Voice Factory Judge quizzed. “It was through what I did for them that the person realised their music is good.”

He said 5Five “was forced” to go record an official single at another place because of a radio presenter, and so they did not return to him as he had hoped.

He said since Obaapa Gladys’ Cobra went viral, he has received calls where people have confessed to “sinning against me”. According to him, the unnamed artistes said they were asked to go record at a different studio else their music would not be played on the radio. Meanwhile, they had initially wanted to come to Fredyma Studios, Pokuasi.

An entertainment pundit, Fred Kyei Mensah, strongly rebuked the “prevalent” ‘cobra behaviour’ where people “impede your progress and speak ill about others, claiming they don’t deserve certain things”.

During heavy rain and flooding on June 3, 2015, a state-owned fuel station, Goil, at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle exploded in Accra, while people had gone there to take refuge.

The disaster of fire and flood affected the iconic Fredyma Studios which was in the community.

On social media, CEO of Fredyma Studios, Fred Kyei Mensah, wrote: “I have lost all my studio equipment, and 15 dead bodies all lying on the street in front of my studio after yesterday’s flooding. I am indeed traumatised. Remember me in your prayers. The studio is about 50 meters from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.”

  • Writer and social worker who was adopted recalls discrimination she experienced as a child

Writer and social worker who was adopted recalls discrimination she experienced as a child

A woman who was left as a baby on a road in Uganda remembers feeling ashamed and judged while growing up as an adopted child in the 1960s and 1970s.

Bharti Dhir was discovered in a box of fruit by someone passing by in the town of Kabale in 1960. Later, a Sikh family took her in and became her adoptive family.

When she was only seven years old, she accidentally found out that she was adopted.

Now, she lives in Reading, Berkshire and helps families who want to start their own journey of adopting children.
MsDhir, who is 63 years old, recalls a time when she accidentally discovered information about her past while she was at her family’s house in Uganda.

“I went inside my dad’s room and found some torn papers with my name on them. I also noticed the words ‘adopted’ and ‘abandoned’,” she explained.

When I was growing up, many kids in school would tell me that my family wasn’t my real family. This was really painful because my parents always made sure I felt just as special as my siblings.

Ms Dhir stated that children like her, who have both Indian and African heritage, are seen as inferior or less than others.

    A rude comment’

She still remembers when people said mean things to her parents, like accusing them of cheating by adopting a child from Africa, and saying it would bring shame to the family.

“She said that people couldn’t understand why they chose to take me in because they saw me as someone else’s child who they didn’t know. ”

I used to think that being dark and having curly hair was not good, and this made me feel bad about myself.

When I was young, I thought I was not attractive. It was only when I got to my thirties that I started to see myself as beautiful.
The family left Uganda in the early 1970s along with many other people from the Asian community. They were forced to leave because of the dictator, Idi Amin.

When they came to the UK, the family stayed with other refugees at a camp in Newbury. However, she faced the same unfair treatment.

People used to tell my mom that she has very dark skin and asked if she could use a cream to lighten her skin and straighten her hair.

This is something mean that was said to me, and I didn’t want to change the way I look for a partner or tolerate it. She wrote about her experiences in a book and now she is helping other families in the local Asian community with adopting kids.

    ‘Accept adoption’

“It’s more common for a family to choose adoption from within their own relatives rather than adopting someone from outside the family. This way, they already know the person’s background. ” said the person speaking.

She has met three families from Asia who have adopted children from outside their own family, and one of them is her friend.

She said, “They think it’s a good thing and treat the children like their own. ”

“I am currently assisting the South Asian community in accepting adoption and providing support or advice whenever needed. ”

I can see that people are starting to accept adoption more and more, but there is still a lot of progress needed before everyone in our community fully accepts it.

Gospel musician Grace Ashly has expressed unwavering support for the Movement of Change, symbolized by a butterfly, and its independent presidential candidate, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen.

During her appearance on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the renowned singer and cheerleader acknowledged the immense kindness she has received throughout her career, particularly from former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who led a New Patriotic Party (NPP) government from 2001 to 2009.

When asked by the stand-in host, Akua Sonto, whether she still supports the NPP, which has been led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo since 2017, Grace Ashly responded with laughter,“Now, I am a butterfly,” Ashly finally answered.

She was asked if she was referring to independent candidate Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change.

    “Yes,” she answered.

Refusing to categorically state she has broken ties with the NPP, she noted: “As you can see, at the moment, it’s all about going independent.

“And with the independent [approach], anything can happen. We’ll come into power, and when we do…” She broke out in laughter.

She emphatically added, however, that even though her family supports the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC): “I’m not with NDC.”

She, however, made it clear that even though she once openly and passionately supported the NPP and has now backs Kyerematen’s Movement of Change, “there is no animosity between the NPP and I”.

Concerning Mr Kyerematen’s chances of winning presidential power come 2024, she said, “We’ll know when the day comes because we do these things with action and not talk.”

She stressed: “I don’t really like speaking about these things.

“I prefer action over talk. So hush – it takes action and not words – and let’s leave it all to God.”

“I have nothing against Yvonne Nelson’s book”- Victoria Lebene

Ghanaian actress Victoria Lebene has reaffirmed her position on the remarks she made concerning fellow actress Yvonne Nelson.

She suggested that Yvonne was presenting herself as a saint by divulging personal secrets in her book, underscoring that everyone has their own stories and experiences with others but doesn’t always choose to disclose those details publicly.

In a sit-down interview with media personality Abeiku Santana on UTV’s ATUU programme, Victoria Lebene insisted that her comments shouldn’t have been taken personally, as she was just sharing her “harmless” opinion and didn’t deserve to be blamed.

She added that she had tried to make peace with Yvonne Nelson on multiple occasions but was ignored.

“That message I wrote wasn’t targeted at her. It was just an opinion. When the book came out, everybody had something to say. She’s my older sister and I know her. We’ve had a few encounters where she’s not happy and all that. I’ve even tried to appeal to her to let it go. I even tried to get in touch but she didn’t open up.

“So if everyone talks, am I not allowed to speak too? I just shared my opinion. I still stand by what was said. It’s harmless, at least for me. Maybe it wouldn’t sit well with others.

“I have nothing against all that she wrote; that is her business. But what I’m saying is that I shared my opinion, just as everybody shared theirs. I also speak out.

“I do advocacy, so when I feel the need to share my opinions, I don’t think that I should be castigated for that,” she stated.

#OccupyJulorbiHouse demo: Celebrities who have nothing better to do with their lives took part – DJ Azonto

Ghanaian musician known for wearing female clothes DJ Azonto, has taken a swipe at celebrities who took part in the recent #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest, describing them as broke.

During a recent interview on Property FM, DJ Azonto expressed his opinion, suggesting that the celebrities involved in the protests were financially strained and lacked more productive ways to occupy their time.

“Celebrities who are broke and don’t own businesses and have nothing better to do with their lives are those who attended the demonstration,” he said.

The “Fa ne fom” hitmaker further challenged everyone to name an entertainment icon who owned properties and had good finances and participated in the protests.

He argued that celebrities who were “serious-minded” and focused on making money did not show up for the protests. Rather, the “lazy” celebrities were the ones who wasted valuable time standing in the sun to protest when they could be using their time more productively.

“Did you see serious-minded celebrities at the demonstration? It is only poor artistes who attend such protests.

“Celebrities who attended the protests are lazy because time is money, so if they had something better to do, why would they go and stand in the hot sun to protest?” he said.

  • Jim Jordan’s future uncertain as opposition grows in US House speakership election

Jim Jordan’s future uncertain as opposition grows in US House speakership election

The Republican candidate, Jim Jordan, did not win the first vote to become the Speaker of the US House of Representatives. This was unexpected because members of his own party voted against him.

Even though many people tried very hard to convince them, 20 Republicans decided not to vote for the conservative Ohio congressman.

The person who supports Trump changed their mind and decided not to have another vote until Wednesday morning.

The lower chamber of Congress hasn’t had a Speaker since Kevin McCarthy was removed two weeks ago during a right-wing rebellion.

The House needs a leader to pass bills and approve emergency aid from the White House. This could mean providing assistance to Israel in their conflict with Hamas.

Mr Jordan got 200 votes in the first round of voting on Tuesday, but he needs 217 votes to become the Speaker.

Hakeem Jeffries, who was chosen by the Democratic party to represent New York, got 212 votes, which was more than what Mr Jordan received. However, since Democrats are not the majority in the House, these votes were not sufficient.

Mr Jordan promised to continue working and said he believed he would ultimately win.

We are moving forward successfully. “He said that he feels happy about it,” he told the reporters. “We will continue without stopping. ”

Mr Jordan cannot afford to lose more than four votes from his Republican party in a chamber where they have a majority of 221-212.

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee first said there would be another vote on Tuesday, but later said the vote would happen on Wednesday at 11:00.

Republicans who did not choose Mr Jordan voted for Kevin McCarthy instead. McCarthy was the former Speaker, but he was removed from his position on 3 October. Some Republicans also chose other candidates.

Three people even voted for Lee Zeldin, a former member of Congress from New York who left his position in January of this year.

A group of New York Republicans who voted against Mr. Jordan mentioned that they disagreed with him on helping the people who were affected by the 9/11 attacks, as well as other political matters.

However, another Republican from New York, Elise Stefanik, praised Mr. Jordan, describing him as a patriot and a strong fighter for America.

Mr Jordan has a history of having arguments with people in his own political group. He helped create a very conservative group called the House Freedom Caucus. Former Republican Speaker John Boehner called this group “legislative terrorists. ”
After the vote on Tuesday, Mr. Jordan met with some Republicans who voted against him.

Many people said they would not change their opinion, and some even said more people might vote against Mr.

Colorado Republican Ken Buck said that the Ohio congressman has not yet accepted that former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden.

Mario Diaz-Balart, a Republican from Florida, said he did not feel any pressure to change his vote against Mr.

He said that if anyone tries to scare or threaten him, he will stop talking or bargaining. “He said that if that’s what’s happening, it’s when I stop understanding or agreeing with you. ”

Lori Chavez-DeRemer from Oregon, who is against Jordan, proposed giving more authority to Patrick McHenry, a Republican from North Carolina, so that the House can continue working even though they don’t agree on certain issues.

Byron Donalds, a Republican from Florida who likes Mr Jordan, said he was shocked by how many people voted against him.

Democrats are happily enjoying the problems within the Republican party and are portraying Mr. Jordan as someone with extreme beliefs.

Pete Aguilar from California called him someone who refuses to accept the election results and speaks out about it.

California Democrat Nancy Pelosi, who has served as Speaker of the House twice before, told reporters that Mr. Jordan had not realized how much opposition there would be against him.

She said that Republicans are learning about math and counting.

During a press meeting, Mr. Jeffries, who is the leader of the Democratic minority, expressed his willingness to collaborate with Republicans in order to find a Speaker who would be acceptable to both political parties.

“He said that there have been ongoing casual talks that have happened in the past few days. ”

It is possible for things to speed up now because Jim Jordan does not have enough votes to become Speaker.

If Jordan loses support, the next person who could become Speaker is Tom Emmer from Minnesota. He is the third most important Republican in the House.

In January, Mr. McCarthy, the previous Speaker, had to go through 15 rounds of voting that lasted for four days before he finally became the Speaker.

Many Republican hardliners, including Mr. Jordan, strongly opposed providing funding for the war in Ukraine. Their opposition played a significant role in the unexpected vote that resulted in Mr. McCarthy being removed from his position this month.

The speakership is the second most important position in line to become president, after the vice-president.

British national among three killed in attack at Ugandan national park

A person from Britain who was on vacation was one of three people who died in a “sneaky terrorist attack” at a national park in southwest Uganda, according to officials.

The police in Uganda said that three people were killed and their car was set on fire in the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

It was reported that a group of people were being chased by a team of soldiers and police officers. The group is believed to be members of a rebel organization called the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). This happened on Tuesday night.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority said that two tourists and a guide were the people who were affected.

The tourists were from the United Kingdom and South Africa. Their guide was from Uganda.

The ADF is a group of Islamist fighters that has connections to the IS. They originally come from Uganda but mainly operate in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The two countries have increased their efforts to target the group more strongly in the past few months.

On Monday, the president of Uganda said that the police stopped a plan to bomb churches in the Butambala district. The plan was allegedly made by ADF militants.

The police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said on a social media platform called X (formerly known as Twitter) that there was a very scary terrorist attack on two tourists from other countries and one person from Uganda in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Three people died, and their safari car caught fire.

He said that the police are actively trying to catch the suspected rebels and he also said that we feel very sorry for the families of the people who were hurt or killed.

The police shared a picture of a green car that was on fire.

Bashir Hangi, who speaks for the Uganda Wildlife Authority, said the attack happened on Tuesday night.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority said that all parks are still open. They asked everyone to be patient and let the investigation continue.

The UK Foreign Office has changed its travel advice for the country, saying that the people who attacked are still not caught.

It means: “If you are in the area, you should stay alert and listen to what the local security authorities or your tour guide tell you to do. ”

Ugandan officials have told people to stay in Queen Elizabeth National Park overnight.

Zimbabwe’s flooding results in the death of five children

Heavy rains and floods caused damage to houses and important structures in Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, five children, four of them from the same family, lost their lives because of this.

On Monday night, four people were killed by lightning while they were sleeping with their mother in a small house in eastern Manicaland province. The mom was okay and not injured.

The other child died because their head got hurt after heavy rain caused flooding in a village in Gokwe North, in the central Midlands province. The flooding also damaged more than 17 homes.

Two more kids from the village were said to have gone to the hospital.

According to the weather agency, there will be a lot of rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail in many areas between Monday and Tuesday.

  • We have not yet received antiretroviral drugs – Individuals affected with HIV

We have not yet received antiretroviral drugs – Individuals affected with HIV

The National Network of Persons Living with HIV/AIDS in Ghana (NAP+) has revealed that its members have not yet seen or received the antiretroviral medications from Team Port that have been cleared.

The health ministry announced that the drugs have been cleared and distribution is in progress, but Elsie Ayeh, the president of NAP+, claims that the drugs have not yet been distributed.

In an interview with Ghanaweb, she recalled calling National AIDS Control to ask why there was a delay; she was not given a specific time for the medication to be distributed.

“They have just been cleared from the port, it hasn’t yet reached us. There has to be some allocation made before the distribution gets to us. They are doing the allocation and it will move on to wherever it has to go but it hasn’t,” she said.

Reacting to the number of days it takes for the drugs to reach the affected persons, she said “I don’t even know. Sometimes, they tell us it’s already gone and it’s not there. So for me, I can’t spell it out.”

She, however, added that the members of NAP+ are waiting patiently for the antiretroviral drug allocation and distribution.

“All our members are on standby so that, immediately it hits any facility, they let us know. Yes, we’ve heard it (distribution of drugs), but whether it will actually happen is something else,” Elsie added.

On Monday, October 16, 2023, the Ministry of Health made an official announcement that they had successfully resolved the issue of stalled antiretroviral drugs at the Team ports, which was caused by a lack of funds.

As per the ministry’s press release, the clearance of these drugs took place on Friday, October 13, 2023. The statement also confirmed that the distribution of these crucial antiretroviral medications was already in progress.

In an effort to gain further insight into the delay, GhanaWeb attempted to contact the National AIDS Control for their perspective. However, their calls went unanswered.

  • Gaza hospital explosion leaves hundreds dead

Gaza hospital explosion leaves hundreds dead

Palestinian officials say many people died in a big explosion at a Gaza hospital on Tuesday. People are worried about Israel not giving enough food, fuel, and electricity to the people living in the area.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said that on Tuesday, when a bomb hit Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, thousands of people who had lost their homes were staying there for safety. Many people who were hurt in the accident are still trapped under the collapsed building, the statement said.

Palestinian officials accused Israeli airstrikes for causing the deadly incident. However, the Israeli Defense Forces strongly denied being involved in the hospital attack. They put the blame on the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, a rival militant group in Gaza, claiming it was due to a failed rocket launch.

We did not attack that. Our intelligence tellsus it was a rocket launch by the Islamic Jihad that failed. I want to beclear that we do not purposefully target important places and especially not hospitals. Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus spoke to CNN.

Israel has been attacking Gaza for over a week because Hamas, a group that controls Gaza, attacked and killed people. Gaza is a place where 2. 2 million people live. Hospitals are having a hard time taking care of the injured people in the area because they don’t have enough electricity and water.

Important help for people in need is gathering at the closed border in Gaza, overthought have been attempts to open a path from Egypt. The United Nations and other officials have said that they want to make sure that aid convoys can go safely to where they need to go.

Due to increasing international pressure to deal with the crisis, US President Joe Biden will visit Israel on Wednesday. This is an unusual visit during times of war and comes after Secretary of State Antony Blinken made significant efforts in the Middle East.

Biden was supposed to go to a meeting in Amman, Jordan’s capital, together with some Arab leaders. However, the meeting was not held because of the explosion at the hospital.

Instead of the meeting that was supposed to happen, Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian Authority, decided to go back to Ramallah for an important meeting with other Palestinian leaders.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, many people who were forced to leave their homes were staying at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the middle of Gaza City.

Hamas, the group in charge of the area, said that over 500 people died because of the bombing. The Palestinian Health Ministry said that around 200 to 300 people are believed to have died in the attack, but these figures are not final and are just initial estimates.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said that the “violent terrorists in Gaza” were responsible for an assault on the hospital last Tuesday.

“The one who cruelly killed our children is also killing their own children,” he said.

Rear Admis a high-ranking officer in the Israeli military who speaks on behalf of the military. Daniel Hagari, who spoke to CNN, said that the IDF has evidence of militants in Gaza calling the incident an Islamic Jihad event. They also have drone footage that shows the strike’s impact on the hospital’s parking lot, but not on the hospital itself.

Hagari mentioned that the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) will soon make public the video and sound recordings of the captured conversations.

As Israeli and Gazan officials accuse each other for the hospital tragedy, protests have started in several Middle Eastern cities, like Amman, where protesters tried to reach the Israeli embassy.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over a week of bombings by Israel has resulted in the deaths of at least 3,000 people, with 1,032 girls and 940 boys among them. Additionally, 12,500 people have been injured in Gaza. This information was shared on Tuesday. Over the past 10 days, more people have been killed in Gaza than during the 51-day conflict between Gaza and Israel in 2014.

The military of Israel (IDF)claims that it does not purposely attack hospitals. However, the United Nations and Doctors Without Borders argue that Israeli airstrikes have indeed hit medical buildings such as hospitals and ambulances.

On Tuesday, Israeli airplanes bombed two crowded areas where refugees live and a school run by UNRWA that shelters displaced people in central Gaza Strip. Palestinian officials reported that this attack caused the death of at least 18 individuals and injured numerous others.

According to the IDF, a top leader of Hamas named Ayman Nofal was killed in the bombings in Gaza on Tuesday.

At least 61 people have died in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. At least 20 people who were helping others in Gaza, including workers from the UN, the Red Cross, and the Red Crescent, have been killed, according to the UN.

Currently, the health care system in Gaza is in critical condition and there is a shortage of food and water. The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) said that 20 out of 23 hospitals can not offer full services because they do not have enough fuel.

United Nations organizations have said that stores will soon run out of food and the only seawater desalination plant in Gaza has stopped working. This could lead to more deaths, dehydration, and diseases caused by contaminated water.

Hospitals in south Gaza have been getting many dead bodies from various places. Dr[Director’s Name], who oversees the hospitals in Gaza, shared this information. Mohammad Zaqout spoke to CNN. Many people were hurtor killed due to bombings in Rafah.

The Palestinian Interior Ministry said that Israeli airstrikes had caused the deaths of at least 49 people in the cities of Rafah and Khan Youn is in southern Gaza.

Colonel Peter Lerner stated that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have launched multiple airstrikes on Hamas militant targets amidst escalating tensions between the two parties. Rewrite this text in simpler words: Colonel. Jonathan Conricus, who spoke to CNN, said that he did not know about any specific attacks in those areas, but it’s possible that they occurred.

There is a growing need for urgent help from both sides of the crossing because a lot of aid is gathering on the Egyptian side of the border.

Blinken said on Tuesday that the US and Israel have agreed to create a plan that will help get emergency assistance from other countries and international organizations to the people in Gaza who need it.

But Sameh Shoukry, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, told CNN that there is a long line of aid waiting to cross into Gaza at the Rafah crossing.

Currently, there is no approved and secure way for convoys to safely enter without the risk of being targeted.

He said that the crossing was attacked with bombs four times in the last few days.

Sending assistance to people who need it in Gaza is really hard because there have been many times when Israeli airstrikes have hit buildings owned by the United Nations.

“We should create safe zones for humanitarians to travel through and for people who need aid to receive it safely,” said UN spokesperson Dujarric during a press briefing on Tuesday, according to CNN.

A spokesperson for the World Health Organization (WHO), named Margaret Harris, said to CNN that the organization had made a deal with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to allow aid through the Rafah crossing. However, because of the strikes from Israel, the crossing became dangerous, which stopped important supplies from being delivered.

On Tuesday, Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, said that Gaza should only receive dangerous explosives from the Air Force and not any humanitarian help. He stated this on the messaging app Telegram, insisting that Hamas needs to release their hostages first.

In Gaza, many people who have been forced to leave their homes have come together near the crossing. More than 1 million people have been forced to flee their homes in just the past week, says UNRWA.

One family of five Palestinian-Americans, who are all US citizens, went to Rafah on Monday because they heard the borders were going to be opened. However, they were not successful in their attempt. Haifa Kaoud, whose husband Hesham is part of the group stuck in Gaza, shared this information.

Pictures taken from space by Maxar Technologies reveal that there are four big holes in the road, each measuring around 30 feet or 9 meters. These holes are located at the border crossing nearest to the Egyptian gate. Additionally, there are also blocks of solid concrete in the area.

Efforts by diplomats to bring peace to the conflict have not been successful until now. On Monday, the UN Security Council said no to a Russian proposal for a humanitarian ceasefire because it didn’t receive enough support.

Many countries, like the US, the United Kingdom, and France, voted against it because the draft did not criticize Hamas for the attack on October 7. The Israeli military claimed that at least 1,400 people died in the attack and many were taken hostage.

This means that a French-Israeli woman named Mia Schem was shown in a video made by Hamas where she was being held hostage. Her mother, Keren Scharf Schem, begged world leaders to bring her baby back home when she talked to reporters on Tuesday.

CNN cannot confirm on its own where and when the video of Schem, who is 21 years old, was recorded and what her current condition is.

Local leaders are worried about fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, in the northern part of Lebanon. Additionally, they are concerned about the potential involvement of Syria in this conflict, as recent strikes at the border have raised tensions and increased the risk of a larger-scale war.

The IDF said on Tuesday that someone shot bullets towards different spots on the fence that separates Israel and Lebanon.

At the same time, the leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, said that if the bad things happening in Gaza continue, Muslims and those who resist may start to lose their patience and no one will be able to stop them from taking action.

After Hamas invaded on October 7th, some fighters from Lebanon shot at Israel, but Israel defended themselves and there was a battle that resulted in deaths.

On Friday evening, an Israeli attack took the life of Issam Abdallah, a reporter from Reuters who was from south Lebanon. The attack injured at least six other journalists.

A CNN video analysis discovered that the reporters were wearing special jackets that had clear markings indicating they were members of the press.

On Tuesday, there was an attack in Alma al-Shaab, southern Lebanon. The attack was by Israel and it caused the deaths of at least four people, according to the Lebanese Red Cross.

On Tuesday, the militant group, Hezbollah, said that two of their fighters died in clashes. We are not sure if they are included in the number of deaths reported by the Red Cross.

  • Outrage and protests sparked in Arab nations over Gaza hospital explosion

Outrage and protests sparked in Arab nations over Gaza hospital explosion

There were protests against Israel in the Middle East and North Africa because Arab leaders are upset about an explosion at a hospital in Gaza City that killed many people.

Palestinian officials said that Israel caused the explosion at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, but the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) denied this. The IDF claimed that Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants tried to launch a rocket, but it failed, and there was no damage to the structure, which means it was not an airstrike.

Islamic Jihad said that the Israeli accusations are not true and have no evidence. They also said that they do not use hospitals or other public buildings for their military activities.

Some countries in the Arab region, such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Iraq, expressed their disapproval of Israel and blamed its military for bombing the hospital.

At the same time, many people in Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, and Tunisia came together to protest against Israel. They were chanting slogans against Israel. Protests also happened in the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

The explosion at the hospital made people in the area very angry about the violence in Gaza. Gaza is a place near the coast with 2. 2 million people living there. It has been blocked by Israel for over a week as a punishment for a big attack by Hamas in Israel on October 7.

On Tuesday night, many people came together near the Israeli embassy in Amman, Jordan to protest. A group tried to go close to something, but a person who knows about security said that security forces stopped them and made them leave. According to two people involved in the protests and videos shared on social media, the security forces in Jordan also used tear gas to scatter the protesters.

In Lebanon, many protestors got together in a square near the US embassy in Beirut on Tuesday. They attempted to go past security barriers to enter the embassy. A CNN team was present to witness this event. By early Wednesday morning, the busy and disorderly situations became more peaceful, as reported by CNN’s Ben Wedeman. Before, the US State Department said on Tuesday that American citizens should not go to Lebanon.

Protesters in Baghdad, Iraq, also shouted slogans against Israel. Security officials in Baghdad have said that many people protesting tried to go across a bridge that goes to the Green Zone. The Green Zone is where the Iraqi government works and where many embassies, including the US embassy, are located. But the security forces stopped the protesters from crossing the bridge.

In Iran, people gathered at the French and British embassies in Tehran, the capital of the country. Protesters shouted angrily and said harmful things about France, England, America, and the Zionists, as shown in a video released by Iranian state-run RNA news on Wednesday. There were also gatherings in other cities like Esfahan and Qom.

According to the official TAP news agency, many people gathered in different parts of Tunis, Tunisia. TAP reported that there were large protests on Tuesday night in many places. The protests were a show of support for the Palestinian people and a way to oppose the bombing happening in Gaza by Israel.

In Istanbul, the police in Turkey sprayed water and used a liquid called pepper spray to break up a group of protesters who had entered a building where the Israeli consulate is.

On Tuesday, the President of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, said on a social media platform called X that everyone in the world should do something to stop the very cruel actions happening in Gaza. He also mentioned that the recent attack on a hospital shows how Israel is attacking without any respect for human values.

The explosion caused Jordan to cancel a meeting on Wednesday. The meeting was going to be between US President Joe Biden and the leaders of Jordan, Egypt, and the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinian Authority is a group that has some control over the West Bank, but it is limited.

The Foreign Affairs Minister of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, wrote on X, “Why does Israel continue to attack Gaza, causing the death of innocent Palestinians. ”

Safadi wants peace and thinks that international law should apply to everyone, not just some people. He also believes that the world needs to speak up and take immediate action against this war.

While the IDF claims that it does not intentionally attack hospitals, the UN and Doctors Without Borders have reported that Israeli airstrikes have hit medical facilities, including hospitals and ambulances.

The hospitals were having a hard time taking care of the injured people because they didn’t have enough electricity and water.

The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, which is in charge of the Al Ahli Baptist Hospital and provides money for it, expressed strong disapproval of the explosion, as mentioned in a statement from the church released on Tuesday.

The diocese said that Gaza does not have any safe places to hide and called the explosion a terrible crime against all people.

The text means that hospitals are supposed to be safe places according to international laws about helping people during times of conflict. However, this attack on the hospital has gone against those rules and is very wrong.

On Wednesday, the IDF showed pictures that they believe prove that the Al-Ahli Baptist hospital was not destroyed by an airstrike.

Akosombo Dam Spillage: Declare state of emergency – Franklin Cudjoe to Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been urged by Franklin Cudjoe of IMANI Africa to issue a state of emergency for residents affected by the recent dam spill in the Volta region.

Franklin Cudjoe asserted in a Twitter post that it appears that the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is underutilised and that there is a shortage of resources in the country.

“Mr. President, it is obvious NADMO is overwhelmed, we are also bankrupt, so in agreement with Hon. Okudzeto, please declare a state of emergency now,” Cudjoe urged in a Twitter post.

Franklin Cudjoe’s appeal is in line with that made by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a North Tongu member of parliament, who also called for the declaration of a state of emergency to allow for a more effective and well-coordinated response to the crisis.

Ablakwa emphasised the requirement for the creation of a special fund to gather donations from the public and well-wishers in order to aid those affected by the spillage.

He added, “Meanwhile, let us know how to donate to a credible fund.”

The spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams in the Volta region has severely damaged and uprooted many local communities, leaving many locals in utter need of assistance.

  • Hong Kong court supports same-sex married couples’ right to equal housing

Hong Kong court supports same-sex married couples’ right to equal housing

A court in Hong Kong rejected the government’s attempt to prevent same-sex married couples from renting or owning public housing. The court deemed this action as discrimination and a complete denial of these couples’ rights.

The Court of Appeal in Hong Kong made a decision on Tuesday that is another step forward for supporters of gay rights in the city. This is part of a trend of legal victories for the LGBTQ+ community in Hong Kong this year.

The government disagreed with two court decisions that said it was wrong for the city’s housing authority to not let same-sex couples who got married in another country live in public housing.

The appeal was about two situations. In one situation, the authority said no to a permanent resident who wanted to rent a public flat with his husband. They said no because their marriage in Canada wasn’t recognized in Hong Kong.

A same-sex couple in Hong Kong were not allowed to jointly own a government-subsidized flat because their marriage in Britain was not accepted in Hong Kong.

In a written decision, Judges Jeremy Poon, Aarif Barma, and Thomas Au from the Court of Appeal said that the way the authority handled gay married couples was unfair and discriminatory. They stated that these couples should be given the same treatment as others.

“The judges said that the different treatment in these cases is a more severe kind of unfair treatment than most cases. This is because the requirement is something that same-sex couples can never fulfill. ”

Henry Li, one of the men in the second case, expressed his approval of the ruling on Facebook.

The Hong Kong Marriage Equality rights group also approved of the decision. They believe that it has clearly shown that discrimination and unfair treatment based on someone’s sexual orientation should not be allowed in public policy choices.

In September, Hong Kong’s highest court decided against allowing same-sex marriage. However, they recognized that same-sex couples still require a different legal system to fulfill their basic social needs.

The government had two years to create a plan.

In September, a court in Hong Kong agreed with a married lesbian couple who said that both women should be recognized as parents of their child, who was born through reciprocal IVF.

People in other parts of Asia are keeping an eye on Hong Kong’s courts. They hope that the decisions made there could impact movements pushing for change in their own countries.

EC announces replacement of Voter ID cards in the Guan district

The Electoral Commission (EC) has initiated the process of replacing the ID cards of the constituents of Guan in preparation for the 2024 general elections.

The Guan constituency is made up of the Santrokofi, Agbafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) towns, which were excluded from the 2020 elections due to the establishment of the new Oti Region.

A Deputy Chair of the EC, Samuel Tettey, announced this at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday.

“The commission wishes to inform the general public that it has started replacing the ID cards for voters in the Guan District from Tuesday, October 3 to Thursday, November 2. This has become necessary because in 2020, voters in the Guan District registered in the Jasikan District.”

“With the creation of the Guan District, the voter ID cards bearing the Jasikan District have been changed to reflect the code of the Guan District,” he stated.

  • Angry outbursts over Gaza hospital explosion in Middle East as Biden visits Israel

Angry outbursts over Gaza hospital explosion in Middle East as Biden visits Israel

There were protests in the Middle East after a big explosion happened at a hospital in Gaza. People from Israel and Palestine blamed each other for the explosion. This happened not long before US President Joe Biden is expected to come to Tel Aviv.

The explosion on Tuesday caused many people to die at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City. The hospital was filled with thousands of people trying to hide from Israeli attacks. The Palestinian Health Ministry made this announcement.

But the explosion marks a risky new stage in Israel’s conflict with Hamas, which has the potential to spread throughout the region. Israeli people are sad about the people who were killed in Hamas’ attacks on Israel. Families are asking for their loved ones who were taken as hostages to be returned. On the other hand, in Gaza, millions of innocent people are in danger of getting hurt, dying, or starving because important things they need are not being given to them. Also, they cannot leave because Israel is bombarding heavily.

Palestinian officials said that the deadly incident happened because of the ongoing Israeli airstrikes. Israeli military spokesperson Rear Admiral (rank in the navy) Israel’s armed forces’ (military’s) representative who gives information and statements to the public. Daniel Hagari said that the Israel Defense Forces did not attack the area when the explosion happened. He claims to have information suggesting that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group is responsible for the blast. This group is an enemy of Hamas, another militant group in Gaza.

Dris a shortened version of the word “doctor. ” Ashraf Al-Qudra, a person who speaks for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, talked about scenes that were shocking and impossible to describe after the explosion.

“According to Al-Qudra, ambulance crews are still taking out body parts because most of the victims are children and women. ” “Surgeries were being done by doctors on the floor and in the hallways, and some of them did not use anesthesia. ”

A video filmed by CNN inside the al-Shifa Hospital shows a lot of confusion. There are many injured people squeezed into the overcrowded hospital, doctors are treating the wounded on the hospital floor, and an emergency worker shouts as he carries a hurt child.

Pictures depict women crying and scared children covered in dark dust, huddled together on the hospital floor.

UN Human Rights chief Volker Turk expressed strong disapproval of the horrific hospital explosion, stating that hospitals are supposed to be safe and protected, and the acts of killing and violence need to cease.

I can’t find the right words to express myself. Tonight, a lot of people were brutally killed in a big attack. This includes sick people, healthcare workers, and families who were hiding in and near the hospital for safety. Once again, the people who are at the highest risk,” Turk said in a statement.

President Biden is on his way to Tel Aviv to visit Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He expressed his strong shock and sadness about the explosion.

However, the aftermath of the explosion is putting at risk the US’s attempts to help alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza. There is growing worry about Israel’s actions, which involve preventing the population in the area from having access to food, fuel, and electricity.

Jordan decided to cancel a meeting that was supposed to happen on Wednesday with Biden, as well as the leaders of Egypt and the Palestinian Authority. Authority President Mahmoud Abbas decided not to attend the meeting right after the explosion happened.

Biden was planning to go to Amman after visiting Tel Aviv, but a White House official said the trip was delayed.

“According to Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, it doesn’t make sense to do anything right now except for putting an end to this war. ” “There is no advantage for anyone in having a meeting right now. ”

The explosion has made people in the area even more mad about what Israel has been doing in Gaza.

The Israeli military has surrounded the area controlled by Hamas, a group of fighters, along the coast. This happened because Hamas attacked Israel on October 7th and killed around 1,400 people. They also took over 150 hostages, including children and old people.

Protests have broken out in many cities in the Middle East and North Africa, such as Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, and Tunisia, to show their anger and disapproval of the hospital explosion. Protests happened in the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. People clashed with the Palestinian security forces.

In Amman, the capital of Jordan, people who were upset tried to come together close to the Israeli Embassy in the Rabieh neighborhood. However, the security forces forced them to leave the area. Two people who campaign for change told CNN on Tuesday that the police in Jordan used a type of gas called tear gas to make a large group of people leave or go away.

In Beirut, Lebanon, a large group of people gathered near the US Embassy on Tuesday. They tried to break through the security barriers, as reported by a team from CNN who was present at the scene.

Hamas reported that over 500 individuals lost their lives in the bombing. The Palestinian Health Ministry said that around 200 to 300 people died in the explosion, according to their initial estimates.

The hospital tragedy happened because the health services in Gaza are almost at a breaking point. They do not have enough fuel to power electricity or pump water for important life-saving functions. International organizations have raised concerns that stores will have no more food in less than a week, and the only seawater desalination plant in Gaza has stopped working. This poses a serious danger of more deaths, dehydration, and waterborne diseases.

Although the IDF claims that it does not intentionally attack hospitals, the UN and Doctors Without Borders have reported that Israeli airstrikes have damaged medical facilities, such as hospitals and ambulances.

Israel says it did not bomb the hospital.

The IDF showed pictures on Wednesday that they say prove the hospital was not damaged by an airstrike.

In a short video, the IDF said that a fire started at the hospital because a rocket launched by Islamic Jihad did not work properly. The pictures showed that some cars in the hospital parking lot were badly destroyed by fire. The Israeli military said they did not see any holes or major damage to buildings that would happen after a bombing.

The IDF spokesperson,Lieutenant(Lt. )[person’s name], is a military official who communicates information to the public. Colis short for Colonel, which is a high-ranking military officer. Jonathan Conricus, speaking to CNN on Wednesday, said that the initial information strongly suggests that the Israeli bomb was not responsible.

Islamic Jihad has said that Israel’s claim about a rocket launch causing many people to get hurt at the hospital is not true.

The group said that the accusations made by Israel are not true and without evidence. They also said that they do not use places like hospitals for military purposes.

Understatements is reviewing information shared by Israel about the explosion. This includes various types of data, like intercepted communications and intelligence from signals.

Many countries have criticized Israel after the explosion. Pakistan described it as cruel and unjustifiable, while the Palestinian observer at the UN, Riyad Man sour, accused Israeli officials of being dishonest by blaming Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

The United Nations Security Council will have a meeting on Wednesday morning to discuss what is happening in the Middle East. They will talk about the bombing of a hospital and representatives from both Israel and Palestine will give speeches.

Israeli airstrikes for more than a week have led to the death of at least 3,000 individuals in Gaza, including 1,032 girls and 940 boys. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that around 12,500 people have also been injured. In the past 10 days, more people have been injured or killed in Gaza than during the conflict between Gaza and Israel in 2014, which lasted for 51 days.

The situation is very bad for the 2. 2 million people who are stuck in Gaza. They are experiencing a worsening crisis and are not safe from Israeli airstrikes. The humanitarian situation is also getting worse.

More and more people are asking for help and diplomatic attempts to create a safe way for people to leave Gaza have increased in the past few days.

Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, has been working hard in the Middle East. He announced on Tuesday that the US and Israel have agreed to create a plan to deliver help to the people in Gaza. This help will come from nations and organizations that want to provide aid.

However, the officials have warned that the Rafah border crossing, which is the only way for people to enter or leave Gaza without Israel’s control, is stillvery risky.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, said on CNN that there is a long line of humanitarian aid waiting to enter Gaza on the Egyptian side of the crossing.

“Sofar, there is no safe way for the convoys to enter without approval or clear routes. This means they are at risk of being targeted. “

He said that the crossing was attacked with bombs four times recently.

  • Ghana’s balance sheet is looking good- Accountant General

Ghana’s balance sheet is looking good- Accountant General

The Controller and Accountant General’s Department has announced that Ghana’s national account balance sheet is in a favorable condition.

The director of National Accounts at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, Dr. Mac-Effort Adadey, attributed this positive outlook to the consolidation of accounts and assets of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and Specified Entities (SEs).

Speaking at the 2nd State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) Editors’ Forum, Dr. Adadey praised SIGA for leading this initiative. He highlighted substantial growth in Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over the past three years, with SOEs and SEs playing a noteworthy role.

In 2020, 19 SOEs and SEs contributed three percent to the country’s GDP. This contribution increased to six percent in 2021, with 48 SOEs and SEs involved, and further rose to 10 percent in 2022, with 62 SOEs and SEs participating.

Dr. Adadey also noted the contribution of these entities to the government’s assets. In 2020, 19 SOEs and SEs accounted for 30.74 percent of government assets, which increased to 49.14 percent in 2021 with 48 entities, and further rose to 76.4 percent in 2022 with 62 entities.

A strong balance sheet, according to Dr. Adadey, positions the country well to engage with the international community for more affordable loans, and he emphasized that “the true picture is coming out.” He encouraged all stakeholders, particularly SOEs and SEs, to adhere to the Public Finance Management Acts and Regulations in order to foster accelerated growth.

The Director-General of SIGA, Mr. Edward Boateng, has noted a positive shift in the performance of many State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

He emphasized that the objective is to have all 87 SOEs and Specified Entities (SEs) become net contributors to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). SIGA is actively working towards transforming these entities into global brands to ensure their meaningful contribution to national development.

Mr. Boateng explained that this transformation would be achieved by harnessing technology and investing in human resource development, making public service roles more appealing to talented young graduates.

He underlined that this transformation is an ongoing process, with more SEs entering into performance contracts, improving financial reporting, and enhancing compliance.

He also highlighted the notable increase in year-on-year dividend receipts, which grew from GHC 103,973,900.00 in 2019 to GHC 475,022,312.91 in 2022.

SIGA recently organized its flagship Public Enterprise League Table (PELT) Awards, which recognize well-performing SOEs and SEs. These awards are based on the evaluation of the Annual Performance Contracts signed by the entities with the government, represented by SIGA.

The scheme is designed to enhance corporate governance efficiency and promote value addition by fostering healthy competition among the SEs.

  • Major Mahama case: Prosecution addresses jury

Major Mahama case: Prosecution addresses jury

The trial of the individuals accused of Major Maxwell Mahama’s murder has begun, with the prosecution addressing the seven-member jury in the case. Chief State Attorney Evelyn Keelson led the prosecution in delivering their opening statement to the jury.

Evelyn Keelson outlined that the accused individuals faced charges on three counts, including conspiracy to commit murder, abetment to commit murder, and murder.

During the prosecution’s case, they presented 14 witnesses and various pieces of evidence, such as cement blocks, iron bars, sticks, and firearms, among other items. The trial involves 14 defendants in an Accra High Court, all facing charges related to the tragic killing of Major Mahama, who served in the 5th Infantry Battalion at Burma Camp.

Major Mahama was on duty in Denkyira-Obuasi, Central Region, on May 29, 2017, when he was mistaken for an armed robber by local residents and subsequently lynched, despite his repeated attempts to identify himself as a Ghana Armed Forces officer.

The accused individuals include William Baah, the Denkyira-Obuasi Assembly member, Bernard Asamoah (alias Daddy), Kofi Nyame (known as Abortion), Akwasi Boah, Kwame Tuffour, Joseph Appiah Kubi, Michael Anim, and Bismarck Donkor. The remaining defendants are John Bosie, Akwasi Baah, Charles Kwaning, Emmanuel Badu, Bismarck Abanga, and Kwadwo Anima.

Keelson noted that the prosecution established a prima facie case against the accused persons, who subsequently made a submission of no case, which the court overruled. To refresh the jury’s understanding of the case, two short videos were shown, illustrating Major Maxwell Mahama’s death and confirming that it resulted from external factors rather than natural causes.

The jury was informed that Major Mahama had been attacked by the accused individuals and others, using various weapons such as sticks, iron bars, and guns. Autopsy results indicated that the deceased had been shot twice and died due to multiple head injuries sustained during the attack.

Initially, 56 individuals were arrested in connection with the case, but following the Attorney-General’s advice, only 14 of them were charged and brought to trial in the High Court. The case has been adjourned until October 23, 2023, for further proceedings.

  • Planting for food and jobs 2: Ghana to be self sufficient in the next  5 years  – Agriculture Minister

Planting for food and jobs 2: Ghana to be self sufficient in the next  5 years  – Agriculture Minister

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has provided reassurance to Ghanaians regarding his ministry’s ability to meet the country’s food security requirements.

He made this statement during his address to farmers and financial institutions at a Presidential Breakfast Meeting on Agriculture and Agribusiness Financing in Accra.

Dr. Bryan expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to become food-secure and resilient within the next five years.

He acknowledged the frustrating and embarrassing situation of importing onions and tomatoes from the Sahelian regions and affirmed his commitment to reversing this trend as soon as possible

“The enormity of leading the charge to transform Ghana’s agriculture through the new strategy has never been lost on me, right from the inception of my stewardship,” he added.

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has expressed confidence in the untapped potential of the agriculture sector in Ghana. He believes that by fully harnessing this potential, the agriculture sector has the capacity to positively transform the country’s fortunes.

“These include abundant arable land for crop production, especially the virgin valleys suitable for rice production, good soils for the production of a variety of crops across the country, water resources for irrigation, favourable weather, and a diversity of food commodities that provide numerous avenues for job creation along the agriculture value chain, to mention a few,” he said.

The Minister, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, highlighted that the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) 2.0 initiative will be implemented on a strong foundation. He emphasized the need for effective interventions in the agriculture sector.

Dr. Bryan also pointed out that, according to statistics, Ghana consumes a total of 324,000 metric tons (MT) of poultry but is only able to produce approximately 15,000 MT.

This indicates that the country has a self-sufficiency rate of less than 5%, which is a significant shortfall.

The PFJ 2.0 initiative aims to address these challenges and improve the nation’s self-sufficiency in various agricultural products, including poultry.

“In the five-year plan of PFJ 2.0, Ghana is expected to move its self-sufficiency from 5% to 7% by the end of 2023, and to 13% in 2024, and progressively attain full self-sufficiency of 110.6% by 2028. Specific steps have been taken in this regard,” he said.

To address the poultry production deficit, Dr. Bryan Acheampong announced that the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) is taking immediate action.

From October to December 2023, they are supplying 4.5 million day-old chicks, vaccines, and starter-pack feed to anchor farmers and their out-growers.

This intervention is expected to result in an additional production of 13,200 metric tons (MT) of poultry meat by the end of this year, which will increase Ghana’s self-sufficiency in poultry to 7%.

In 2024, the Ministry plans to intensify support for the poultry sector by providing 18 million day-old chicks, vaccines, and starter-pack feed.

This will lead to the production of 42,600 MT of poultry meat, further raising Ghana’s self-sufficiency in poultry to 13%.

The aim is to continue on this trajectory until Ghana achieves full self-sufficiency in poultry production, addressing the current import dependency.

“Plans are also advanced to revive the poultry industry this year through the rehabilitation of 300 outgrown poultry farms across the country over the next 12 months. Each of these farms can be scaled to produce 200,000 birds within each poultry cycle of 4 months,” he said.

The “Planting for Food and Jobs” (PFJ) Campaign was inaugurated by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in April 2017. Subsequently, two more initiatives, “Planting for Export and Rural Development” and “Rearing for Food and Jobs,” were launched in Dunkwa-On-Ofin and Wa, respectively.

The PFJ campaign comprises five modules, each designed to cater to specific agricultural needs and facilitate the transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector. These modules include Mechanization, Greenhouse Villages, and the Food Crops module.

The PFJ policy encouraged all citizens to cultivate grain crops and vegetables in various spaces, including backyards.

Private and public institutions, such as breweries, food processors, schools, colleges, and prisons, were urged to establish their farms. The overarching goals were to ensure food self-sufficiency, export surplus produce, reduce the import bill for food, and generate employment opportunities for Ghanaians. This comprehensive approach aimed to revitalize Ghana’s agriculture and boost its contribution to the nation’s economy and well-being.

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched Phase Two of the government’s flagship agriculture program, “Planting for Food and Jobs,” on August 28, 2023, at the University for Development Studies in Tamale.

This new phase aims to build upon the successes of the initial program and is designed as a five-year master plan for the transformation of agriculture in Ghana.

The key focus of this second phase is on modernization through the development of selected commodity value chains and the active involvement of the private sector.

The program seeks to enhance the agricultural sector in Ghana, boost productivity, and promote greater private sector engagement in the development of the country’s agricultural industry.

  • Putin visits ‘close friend’ Xi Jinping in China

Putin visits ‘close friend’ Xi Jinping in China

Vladimir Putin has come to Beijing to meet with Xi Jinping, who he considers a close friend. This trip is meant to highlight the strong alliance between their countries, which they believe has no boundaries.

Putin and his group traveled to Beijing on Tuesday morning, marking only their second trip abroad since the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant for Putin’s arrest.

This year, the Russian president is also going on his first official trip outside of the old Soviet Union. He recently visited Kyrgyzstan, which used to be a part of the Soviet Union.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) accuses Putin of taking children out of Ukraine without permission. The ICC makes the 123 countries, who are members, arrest Putin and send him to The Hague for a trial if he visits their land.

Both Kyrgyzstan and China are not part of the ICC, which was created to handle cases of war crimes.

Xi recently saw the person he is often compared to in Moscow a few days after the legal document was given.

He asked Putin to come to a conference in Beijing called the Belt and Road forum, which is organized by the Chinese leader to promote international cooperation.
Russian media reported that Putin will go to the forum’s reception and have discussions with the leaders of Vietnam, Thailand, Mongolia, and Laos on Tuesday.

Putin is an important guest at the forum. He will speak after Xi on Wednesday and then have a one-on-one meeting with the Chinese president.

Beijing said no to criticism from the West about its partnership with Moscow, even though the war in Ukraine is still going on. They said their partnership is not breaking any international rules and China can work with any country it wants.

Putin went to China for the Winter Olympics in February 2022. At that time, Russia and China said they would work closely together. But a few days later, Putin sent many soldiers to Ukraine.

Putin will be going to the Belt and Road Forum for the third time, and it will last until Wednesday. He went to the last two meetings in 2017 and 2019.

The forum focuses on the Belt and Road initiative, a big plan started by Xi ten years ago. His goal is to create worldwide infrastructure and energy networks that will connect Asia with Africa and Europe, using both land and sea routes.
Putin has said that he likes the idea and thinks it is a good way for countries to work together without forcing anything onto each other.

Since the Ukrainian conflict began, Russia and China have strengthened their energy connections as a sign of their economic collaboration.

Russia sends about two million barrels of oil to China every day, which is more than a third of all the crude oil it exports. Moscow also wants to construct another pipeline that will transport natural gas to China.

The leaders of Russia’s biggest oil and gas companies, Rosneft and Gazprom, will be with Putin when he travels, but we shouldn’t anticipate any new energy deals.

The Kremlin said the trip is not a complete bilateral visit, but rather one that is happening alongside an international conference.

  • Ukrainian orchestra to perform in UK despite turmoil

Ukrainian orchestra to perform in UK despite turmoil

The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (NSOU) is coming back to the UK this week after more than 20 years.

Their first performance will happen at the Forum in Bath. Bristol Beacon will be hosting the event.

The tour is a chance for Ukraine to show their music and culture while dealing with the conflict with Russia.

They want to collect £24,000 by selling tickets at 17 different places in the UK to help the NSOU.

The NSOU has decided to go on a tour in the UK as a part of its efforts to “fight the war on the cultural front“.

The first tour show will happen at the Bath Forum on Tuesday.

To show that the UK supports Ukraine during the conflict, the NSOU has been asked to visit the House of Commons and meet with important members of Parliament.

The UK government has decided to not charge the visa fees for the 90 members of the orchestra.
    ‘We have strong feelings’

Alexander Hornostai, who manages and produces NSOU, said that they are happy to come back to the UK after 22 years. They want to make Ukrainian culture known worldwide. They have strong feelings when they perform and express their emotions through music.

One side has pain, sadness, and suffering. The other side has hope for Ukraine’s victory and a good future for our country.

With no planes going in or out of the country, the whole group of people in the orchestra have to travel on a bus for 20 hours and cross two borders that have fighting happening, to get to Warsaw, Poland.

Members will then get on a plane to go to Heathrow Airport. British Airways is helping with this flight.

A fundraiser has been created by the tour promoters, IMG Artists, with a goal of collecting £24,000. All the money collected will be given directly to the orchestra.

The goal is set based on the estimated number of 24,000 people in the UK who are expected to be reached.

Todd Wills, the person in charge of Bristol Beacon, said: “This special trip is a chance to demonstrate that the people of the UK support them and understand the significance of Ukrainian culture. We hope many local people will come to see them and give them a warm welcome. ”

50 persons abducted by armed guys in northwest Nigeria

More than 50 people, including women and children, were taken away by armed men in north-western Nigeria.

People who live in Bagega, a village where mining happens in Zamfara state, said a group of armed men came into the village on motorcycles. They shot at people without choosing who to shoot and also set houses on fire.

Three individuals lost their lives, and seven more were harmed in the assault.

In the past few years, kidnapping for money has been happening a lot in north-western Nigeria. Armed groups called bandits have been going to villages, schools, and people on the road to take them captive.

  • Sweden looks into broken communication cables in Baltic

Sweden looks into broken communication cables in Baltic

A cable that connects Estonia and Sweden underwater for telecoms has been broken, according to the Swedish government.

The civil defence minister, Carl-Oskar Bohlin, said that the cable was broken but not totally ruined.

He said that the cable might have been broken at the same time as a gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia earlier this month.

Last week, Finland stated that the pipeline was probably intentionally damaged.

During a meeting with the media on Tuesday, Mr. Bohlin stated that the reason for the harm is still not known. Swedish investigators will work together with investigators from Finland and Estonia, he said.

On 8 October, it was found that there was damage to the pipeline that carries natural gas between Estonia and Finland. The Finnish authorities said that both the pipeline and the telecoms cable were broken in two spots.

Finnish sources recently told the BBC that they believe Russia may have caused deliberate damage as a response to Finland’s decision to join NATO in April.

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, said that the accusation is not true and called it “rubbish”.

Countries near the Baltic Sea have been very watchful for possible damage to undersea infrastructure since September. This concern started when the Nord Stream 2 undersea pipeline was made unusable due to several explosions.

It is not clear who was responsible for the attack on Nord Stream 2, a pipeline that was supposed to carry gas from Russia to Germany but was never used.

Ukraine said it did not do the explosions. Russia has said they did not do it.

At a recent meeting, the Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson cautioned that undersea data cables could be sabotaged.

“There are many cables lying on the ocean floor,” said Mr Kristersson on Friday. He said that these cables are important for our modern economy but they can also be easily attacked.

Sweden and Finland both wanted to join Nato in 2022. However, even though Finland was accepted in April, Sweden has been facing opposition from Hungary and Turkey, causing their bid to be delayed and they are still not part of the alliance.

  • Numerous people hurt as riot police used tear gas during election protests in Mozambique

Numerous people hurt as riot police used tear gas during election protests in Mozambique

In the capital city of Mozambique, Maputo, the police used tear gas against protesters from the opposition. The protesters claim that the local elections held last week were manipulated to benefit the ruling Frelimo party.

Many people got hurt a little when they ran away from the police.

“They didn’t have to do this, you know, because this is a democracy, right. We are walking calmly and we don’t want any issues with anyone,” explained one person protesting.

Experts are wondering if the government-owned electricity company in Mozambique intentionally stopped the power supply to disrupt the election.

In Maputo City, power outages don’t happen very often. It’s amusing how, right on election day, during the vote counting, the busiest parts of town lost power for several hours. In the past elections, this has also occurred, according to researcher Zenaida Machado from Human Rights Watch.

The main opposition party, Renamo, did not win any cities even though they previously governed seven of them.

According to news sources, two Mozambican courts cancelled the election results in Chokwe district in southern Gaza province and Cuamba district in the northern Niassa province. The reason for cancellation was irregularities found during the election process.

  • Nigeria burns pangolin scales worth $1.4 million

Nigeria burns pangolin scales worth $1.4 million

Officials in Nigeria have set fire to pangolin scales worth $1. 4m (£12m)

This is the first time that the West African nation publicly destroyed wildlife products that they took from illegal trafficking, in order to discourage more illegal activities.

The pangolin is a very rare and shy animal that is in danger of disappearing. It is also one of the most hunted and traded creatures in the world. Many people want to buy their scales for traditional Chinese medicine.

Nigeria has become an important place for moving African pangolin scales and other wildlife products to Asia.

Aliyu Jauro, the director-general of NESREA, said that destroying these seized items shows how committed we are to protecting the environment, saving wildlife, and stopping illegal trade that puts species in danger of disappearing. He also mentioned that we destroyed four tonnes of pangolin scales.

  • Israeli attacks on southern Gaza claim more than 100 lives

Israeli attacks on southern Gaza claim more than 100 lives

More than 100 Palestinians have died in air attacks in the southern part of Gaza, according to officials. Despite instructing civilians to seek shelter in that area, the Israeli military continues to attack it.

Many people who died had left their homes in the north to escape from a big attack on the group Hamas.

The military said it attacked several places belonging to Hamas in the southern area.

People are increasingly worried about the living conditions of people in Gaza.

The US said they had made a plan with Israel to help send aid to the people living in a place controlled by Hamas. This is because the United Nations (UN) aid agencies said that the hospitals did not have enough fuel and it would run out in less than a day. They also said that there was very little water and the stores only had a few days of food left.

There is a belief that Egypt’s Rafah crossing will be opened to allow important aid to enter and allow Palestinians with foreign passports to leave. However, on Monday, it is reported that a building at the crossing was damaged by an Israeli strike.

Israel stopped the supply of electricity, water, food, and medicine through its crossings because Hamas militants attacked its borders on 7 October. The attack resulted in the death of at least 1,300 people and 199 others being taken hostage.

Over 2,800 people have died in Israel’s attacks on Gaza, as reported by health officials.
The situation in southern Gaza overnight is causing a lot of concern for the many people who followed the Israeli military’s order last Friday to leave northern Gaza for their own protection. The BBC’s Rushdi Abu Alouf in Khan Younis reported on this.

Local authorities in Khan Younis have reported that three Israeli airstrikes resulted in the deaths of over 100 individuals, with a majority of them being people who had been forced to leave their homes.

Amin Hneideq shared that his daughter got hurt when a bomb exploded and destroyed a house close by. Sadly, the bomb also took the lives of a family who were running away towards the south. “He told Reuters news agency that they brought them from the north only to attack them in the south. ”

The Israeli military said it attacked places where Hamas operates in Khan Younis, Rafah, Zeitoun, and Jabalia. They targeted command centres, military buildings with people inside, and places where Hamas members hide.

Many people who had to leave their homes in Khan Younis said to the BBC that they were getting ready to bring their things and go back to their houses.

A man said he had been sleeping on the street for a few days. He didn’t want to die of thirst and would rather die with respect.

Khan Younis, Rafah, and other towns in the south have struggled with the task of housing and providing food for over 600,000 people who have been forced to leave their homes. An additional 400,000 people have found a safe place to stay in another area of the Strip.

Filmmaker Yousef Hammash said that every day, people are struggling to find food for their children. This is causing a lot of stress and people are only focused on surviving.
On Tuesday, a store in Gaza City sent water to Khan Younis. This was risky because there was no guarantee that the Israeli forces would not attack the trucks transporting the water.

The UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees, called Unrwa, stated that Israel allowed water to flow into southern Gaza for a short period of three hours on Monday. However, only 14% of the 2. 2 million people living in Gaza were able to use this water.

The seawater desalination plant in Gaza that was still working had to close because it didn’t have enough fuel. This is making people worry more about getting dehydrated and getting sick from dirty water.

The hospital in Khan Younis is having a hard time taking care of the many people hurt in air attacks. They said they will run out of fuel for their extra generators at midnight, and this will put the patients’ lives in danger.

People are trying to get more fuel from nearby gas stations and businesses so that the hospital can continue to operate.

The World Food Programme also mentioned that stores in Gaza only had enough food for about four or five more days. It said that there might be a few extra days in storage places, but the Israeli attacks were making it hard to get to them.

Even though people were warned, a speaker for the Israeli military said that there is no big problem that threatens people’s well-being in Gaza at the moment.

“We don’t have the promise to give Hamas electricity,” Lt Col Richard Hecht said to BBC Newsnight.

The people who attacked us have been in charge of the Gaza Strip for many years. They have power. I can also see water in the southern part of Gaza.

The UN human rights office stated that Israel’s request for 1. 1 million people to leave their homes, along with the blockage of goods entering Gaza, might be considered as forcefully moving civilians against the rules set by international law.

Spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani also mentioned that there should be a separate investigation into the reports of attacks on civilians trying to escape. She also warned that punishing the entire population for the actions of a few militants is not fair.

The office has asked again for Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups to release all the hostages in Gaza right away and without any conditions. They also want them to stop shooting rockets randomly at cities and towns in Israel.
Yesterday, Hamas shared a video of a young woman named Mia Shem. She is 21 years old and is from Israel and France. In the video, she said that she was taken captive at a music festival where more than 260 people were killed.

On Tuesday, Keren, the mother, spoke at a news conference and pleaded to the world to help bring her baby back home. She went to a party just to enjoy herself. And now she is in Gaza, and she is not the only person there.

There are babies, children, and old people who were survivors of the Holocaust and were taken away forcefully. This is a terrible crime against people.

The Israeli military strongly criticized the hostage video, calling it a form of psychological terrorism.

  • Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ falls off Billboard Hot 100 after setting new record

Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ falls off Billboard Hot 100 after setting new record

Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema‘s song Calm Down has dropped off the Billboard Hot 100 after a record-breaking 57 weeks.

The music tracking service Chart Data announced on X that the song “made history, becoming the longest-charting and most successful African song of all time.”

The song broke the 35-week record that fellow Nigerian Afrobeats artist Wizkid’s song Essence had previously held.

About seven months after its release, in September of last year, Calm Down debuted on the Billboard Hot 100.

Since its release, the mesmerising song—described by Billboard magazine’s music analysts as “a melancholy slow jam with a subtle hypnotic draw”—has captured the attention of music lovers all over the world.

Despite having a small part in the song, American pop star Selena Gomez’s appearance on Calm Down contributed to its enormous global popularity.

The song became the highest-charting song on which an Afrobeats musician was the lead artist when it peaked at position three on the Billboard Hot 100, the most prestigious music ranking in the US.

After hearing that the song had left the Billboard Hot 100 chart, fans of Rema and Selena praised the song’s historic accomplishment.

It has broken more than a dozen records. Last month it became the most streamed Afrobeats song on Spotify and the first African artist-led song to hit one billion streams on the music platform.

“We can’t Calm Down, Rema has entered the Billions Club with the first African artist-led track to hit a billion streams on Spotify! Congratulations to Rema and Selena Gomez,” Spotify posted on X when Calm Down set the record.

  • New hottest pepper crowned by Guinness World Records

New hottest pepper crowned by Guinness World Records

The Guinness World Records has named Pepper X as the spiciest chili pepper in the world, taking away the title from the Carolina Reaper chili pepper after 10 years.

To compare, a habanero pepper is usually spicy with 100,000 Scoville heat units. However, the Pepper X is extremely spicy with 2. 69

Breeder and farmer Ed Currie made the peppers that broke world records.

Pepper X pods and seeds will not be available for purchase because they are a special kind of pepper that is owned by someone and not for sale.

MrCurrie grew Pepper X for ten years on his farm in South Carolina, but he kept his project a secret to safeguard his ideas and creations.

“MrCurrie said that everyone worked together as a team,” he said in a statement. “We realized we had something unique, so I only told a small group of my closest family and friends about the true situation. ”

In lab tests at Winthrop University in South Carolina, Pepper X was found to be much hotter than Mr. Currie’s Carolina Reaper. Pepper X has an average of 2,693,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), while the Carolina Reaper only averaged 1,641,183 SHU.

In 1912, a pharmacist named Wilbur Scoville created a tool called the Scoville Scale. This scale tells us how much we need to dilute capsaicin to make it less spicy.

Capsaicin is a substance that causes the spicy feeling in peppers. It can make the body release dopamine and endorphins.

MrCurrie had addiction problems with drugs and alcohol but managed to overcome them. As a hobby, he started growing peppers and claims that they have a similar effect to feeling high naturally.

People usually think that the spiciness of a pepper comes from its seeds, but actually, capsaicin is found in the part of the pepper that holds the seeds, called the placenta. According to the Guinness World Records, Pepper X has a lot of curves and ridges. This means that there is more space for the placenta to grow.

MrCurrie is among a small group of just five individuals who have consumed a whole Pepper X.

I felt hot for three and a half hours. “Then I started feeling intense stomach pain,” Mr. Currie informed the Associated Press.

Those cramps are really painful and unpleasant. I was lying down on a hard marble wall for about an hour while it was raining, making sounds of discomfort.

MrCurrie said that Pepper X is a mix of two types of peppers – the Carolina Reaper and another extremely spicy pepper that his friend sent him from Michigan.

MrCurrie’s lawyer said that 10,000 products were using the name Carolina Reaper without permission.

In order to keep his ideas safe and make money this time, the creator will not make Pepper X pods and seeds available to the public.

The only way to experience the flavor of Pepper X is by purchasing and using hot sauces that contain it.
