Multiple-award-winning Nigerian songstress Tiwa Savage has made the difficult decision to postpone all her upcoming performances, including her highly anticipated first-ever headline arena show in London. The reason for this postponement is related to medical concerns.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Tiwa Savage explained that she has been contending with a virus for the past few weeks, and as a result, her medical team has advised her to strictly observe vocal rest for the next few months. This decision is likely made to ensure her complete recovery and prevent any further strain on her vocal cords.
Fans and well-wishers are surely disappointed by this news, but the artist’s health and well-being must take precedence. We can hope for her swift recovery and a future resumption of her performances once she’s in good health.
“I’m heartbroken and devastated, but I have to do this to save what’s left of my voice,” she said.
Savage apologized to her fans and promised to be back performing once she was fully healed.
“I love you all and promise to be back performing once I’m fully healed,” she added.
The celebrated Nigerian songstress’s postponement is a major blow to her fans, who have eagerly awaited her first-ever headline arena show in London. The show was scheduled to take place on October 22 at Wembley Arena.
Savage is one of the most popular and successful singers in Africa. She has won numerous awards, including the MTV Africa Music Award for Best Female Artist and the BET Award for Best International Act: Africa.
She is renowned for her partnerships with foreign performers like Sam Smith, Coldplay, and Beyoncé.
Alsu Kurmasheva, an American journalist, was arrested after visiting her family in the Russian city of Kazan. Now, she is being accused of a crime, according to her coworkers.
She worked as an editor for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Prague, which is funded by the United States. On 2 June, she was held for a short time by authorities.
She was arrested again on Wednesday and accused of not registering as a foreign agent. If convicted, she may be sentenced to up to five years in jail.
Ms Kurmasheva is the second American journalist who has been detained in Russia this year.
Evan Gershkovich, a reporter for Wall Street Journal in Moscow, who is 31 years old, was arrested in March for spying. This month, a court in Moscow said no to his request and told him that he needs to stay in jail.
His boss and the United States government are saying that the accusations are not true and that he is being kept so he can be exchanged for Russians who are held in the custody of the United States or its friends.
Alsu Kurmasheva has citizenship in both the US and Russia. She works for RFE/RL’s Tatar-Bashkir service. Tatar and Bashkir are two similar languages spoken by native people in two parts of Russia.
According to RFE/RL, Ms. Kurmasheva, who lives in Czech Republic, went to Kazan at the end of May because of a family emergency. She was stopped and held by authorities while waiting for her flight back home and they took away her passports from Russia and America.
She was accused of not registering as a foreign agent and of gathering information for foreign governments, as reported by a local state news website called Tatar Inform.
Dmitry Kolezev, a well-known journalist from Russia, explained that the law Ms Kurmasheva was accused of breaking was written in a way that makes it possible to restrict gathering simple information about military members, like their names and which unit they belong to. “They captured another person,” he added.
Ms Kurmasheva’s work often dealt with problems that people from different ethnic backgrounds in central Russia experience.
According to independent Russian media organizations and press freedom watchdogs, Russian authorities often use strict laws to bother journalists and prevent them from reporting freely on important matters.
Many reporters and people who oppose the Kremlin have been called “foreign agents”. This includes Dmitry Muratov, who won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Last year in September, Ivan Safronov, a journalist for Kommersant and Vedomosti, was given a 22-year prison sentence for the crime of treason.
In March, a student named Dmitry Ivanov was given a prison sentence of eight and a half years for sharing false information about the Russian army on the messaging app called Telegram.

The album has one of Chibade’s most famous songs called Mawu anga, which means My words.
“Everyone, young and old, loved his music. ” “One of his fans on Facebook said that he was a very talented artist who could make people feel emotions and remember things with his music. ”
Famous Malawian writer Wonderful Mkhutche was very surprised and sad about the young singer’s death. He said the singer had a lot of talent and it is a shame that he died so young.

“Thomas Chibade’s influence on Malawi’s music industry and his positive effect on many musicians will never be forgotten,” Chalera wrote on Facebook.

A very old synagogue in Tunisia has suffered a lot of damage because of protests against Israel.
A lot of people saw a video and pictures on social media that showed many protesters burning down a synagogue in the city of Al Hammah in Tunisia.
It is believed to have occurred shortly after a powerful explosion in Gaza on Tuesday that caused the deaths of many people. The Arab world mostly blames Israel for this tragic event. Israel said that a Palestinian militant group accidentally launched a rocket.
The synagogue was damaged in protests in 2011 but is now not used for worship. The tomb of a 16th Century rabbi is located in this place, and it used to be an important site where people would go on pilgrimages.
The American Jewish Committee issued a statement on Wednesday.
It was very scared and upset to see the synagogue on fire and being destroyed.
Our main worry is the safety and happiness of Tunisia’s Jewish community. We are carefully watching the situation and staying in touch with community leaders.
Tunisia has had Jewish people living there for a long time – they were there even before Islam or Christianity arrived in North Africa.
Out of the 100,000 people who were there before Israel was made in 1948, only about 1,500 are still here.
The Turkish company Karpowership has turned the power back on in Guinea-Bissau’s capital city. They had previously shut off the electricity because the country had not paid a bill of $15 million.
The company started working again on Wednesday evening after getting a $6 million payment from the government.
Bissau was in darkness for nearly two days. Hospitals were affected and radio stations were not broadcasting.
This country is very poor and has had many problems since it became independent.
In 2019, the government of the country made an agreement with Karpowership, a big company that operates floating power plants, to provide all the electricity needed.
A company representative told the BBC that Karpowership is thankful for Guinea-Bissau‘s efforts to pay the bill, and this allowed them to start providing electricity again.
“Our fuel suppliers had to stop working because they couldn’t handle the long time without getting paid,” the spokesperson explained.
The Energy Minister, Isuf Baldé, said that $6 million out of the total bill of $15 million has been paid.
He said that in a small and poor country like Guinea-Bissau, it takes time to complete a transfer operation of such a large amount, which is $10 million.
He said that the agreement with Karpowership needed to be changed because the costs had increased by almost twice, making it too expensive to continue.
Electricity was turned off in Bissau, a big city with over 400,000 people, early on Tuesday.
According to local journalist Assana Sambu, a few public hospitals used generators during surgeries.
However, they didn’t have running water because there wasn’t enough electricity. The hospital directors asked for electricity so they could cook food for their patients.
Another journalist named Alberto Dabo said that he had to drink water from a well because the regular water supply had been turned off while the temperature was very hot, reaching 40 degrees Celsius.
The power outage also impacted media organizations, including the state-run Rádio Nacional, which had to stop broadcasting.
According to the African Development Bank, Guinea-Bissau has very few people who have access to electricity. They estimate that only 10% of the country’s population has electricity, and in the city of Bissau, it’s slightly higher at 20%.
In the city of Bissau, there are often power outages. Some areas of the city have no electricity for more than four hours each day.
The World Bank stated in 2020 that Guinea-Bissau’s electricity industry has been stuck in a bad situation for many years. This is because of problems like political instability, ineffective management, a lack of planning, and people in power prioritizing their own interests over the country’s needs.
The Turkish company made an agreement with South Africa, promising to supply more than 5% of the country’s power requirements.
However, it has adopted a strict stance towards not receiving payment. Last month, Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, had its power shut off because they didn’t pay a bill of $40 million.
Access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa has gotten better, but it’s still not very good. More than half of the people in the region don’t have electricity connected to a grid, according to the United Nations.

CEO of Highly Spiritual Music, Kaywa, has made it clear that he will never engage in the practice of blacklisting any artist who leaves his record label.
Addressing rumors of “curses” or negative consequences for artists who have departed from his Highly Spiritual record label, Kaywa highlighted that artists from various parts of the world, including Nigeria and Ghana, have faced similar career challenges after leaving their labels. He emphasized that he has never been involved in blacklisting anyone.
Kaywa stressed that he promotes a culture of love and forgiveness among everyone in his professional circle.
“Even those artists who have left my label, will tell you that one thing I always tell them is love and forgive. So I’ve taught them how to love, how to forgive, how to love, how to forgive.
“And so if for any day I sit someone, I call you Saminiwa, that don’t play this artist’s music on your TV or radio because they left my label, then that’s total immaturity. There’s no presenter out there, there’s no DJ out there, there’s no TV person out there who will say I called them and said this guy’s left, so don’t do anything for them.
“That is total immaturity and it will never happen to us. I will never, as a matter of fact, me, I’m very focused,” he said.
Kaywa insisted that he was rather focused on raising the new artistes in his label and would not have time to sabotage the success of older artistes. He added that he would rather be happy if they do well outside his label since he played a part in their success.
“I have brand new artists. We are so focused on them. So why waste our time? I believe that when you leave the label and you are doing pretty well out there, it is still to our record advantage. Because at the end of the day, if we didn’t place you or put you where you are, there’s no way you could. We are very happy about it. People will always weep, they will say all manner of things, but we are focused,” he stated.
Kaywa and his Highly Spiritual record label have been the nurturing ground for numerous award-winning Ghanaian artists, including Mr. Drew, Krymi, Lasmid, and Bisa Kdei.
Gospel musician Nana Yaw Boakye, popularly known as MOGmusic, has excited his fans with the news that his album “Koinonia Phase II” is being considered for a Grammy Award.
It’s important to note that Grammy consideration does not guarantee an automatic nomination but is a significant step in the process.
MOGmusic is eagerly anticipating a possible nomination in multiple categories, including Best Gospel Album, Album of the Year, and Best New Artist, with his recent album “Koinonia Phase II.”
In addition to this exciting news, MOGmusic has made history as the first Ghanaian gospel artist to be admitted into the Recording Academy of the Grammy Awards.

South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky both want the Russia-Ukraine conflict to be resolved peacefully.
They met and talked on Tuesday because the Ukrainian president asked them to. This was confirmed by the South African presidency in a statement on Wednesday.
It means that Mr. Ramaphosa was happy that Mr. Zelensky wants to bring back the Black Sea Grain Initiative. They both promised to keep working together on it.
Russia stopped participating in a grain agreement that was made between the UN, Turkey, and Russia in July 2022. This agreement allowed grain from Ukraine to be sold to other countries.
Ukraine has suggested creating places in African ports where grains can be stored and traded.
Last month, the President of Kenya, William Ruto, announced that Ukraine had agreed to establish a center for storing and distributing grains in the port of Mombasa. This center will provide grains to the eastern African region.
Ethiopia, Somalia, and Sudan were some of the countries that gained advantages from the Black Sea Grain agreement.
During the discussions, Mr. Ramaphosa also expressed his country’s dedication to actively participating in the Africa Peace Initiative. This initiative was proposed by seven African leaders earlier this year as a potential way to achieve peace.
He agreed that his country will take part in the peace talks proposed by Ukraine, which will involve national security advisors.
UK-based Ghanaian artiste, Stephanie Benson, has debunked the belief that breast-sucking can prevent breast cancer and related diseases. She clarified that the notion, which has circulated in the minds of some Ghanaians, allowing men to suck women’s breasts even if they don’t enjoy it, is not based on scientific evidence.
Stephanie Benson emphasized that there is no scientific data to support the claim that breast-sucking can prevent cancer, and she finds it nonsensical to entertain such a narrative. This statement came in response to a question about whether breast-sucking by men can prevent breast cancer and whether there is any scientific validation for such a belief.
During an interview with Okay FM she said,I get very angry when I hear it. I joke all the time on my page. We need to stop it, there are certain things you just don’t mess with. Whoever started that narrative needs to stop it. It’s never true [sucking boobs prevent breast cancer], how can it be? If you say sexual pleasure sucking, how?” she quizzed.
Stephanie Benson went ahead to urge the general public to disregard such a narrative because it has not been proven scientifically yet.
“If that is real why do we have radiotherapists? This is ridiculous! It prevents what? I don’t get it. It is the most irresponsible thing for anybody to say. Because some women are allowing the men to suck the breast even if they don’t enjoy it and that’s almost a rape.
“There are people who want somebody to suck it even if they don’t want to. I don’t understand, it makes no sense to me. So please that narrative should be stopped. It makes no sense scientifically at all,” Stephanie Benson said.
All charges against Maxime Mokom have been withdrawn by the prosecutor in charge of filing accusations at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Maxime Mokom has been in custody at the court since March of last year.
He was charged with multiple crimes for leading attacks on innocent people, killing them, and sexually assaulting them while being involved with the anti-Balaka militant group in the Central African Republic from 2013 to 2014.
He said he didn’t do what he was accused of and joined the group to promote peace, not violence.
Prosecutor Karim Khan said that after looking at the evidence and thinking about the witnesses, he. The International Criminal Court (ICC) said that they have decided that there is no longer a strong chance of proving someone guilty in court, even if the accusations were proven true.
“He said we need to make sure we only go forward with cases that have a real chance of winning. ”

Rishi Sunak promised to support Israel when he visited the country before his meetings with its leaders.
When the UK prime minister arrived in Tel Aviv, he said that Israelis had experienced a terrible act of terrorism carried out by Hamas earlier this month.
MrSunak is going to have a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog later. This meeting is happening as part of Mr. Sunak’s two-day visit to the region.
He will also use the trip to ask for help for the people in Gaza.
The visit comes right after President Biden’s visit, as leaders from around the world are working harder to stop the fighting between Hamas and prevent it from affecting more countries.
WhenSunak arrived, he told the reporters that he wanted to have a good and useful meeting with Israel’s leaders.
Most importantly, I am here to show my support for the Israeli people.
“You have experienced a very terrible act of terrorism, and I want you to understand that the United Kingdom and I support you. ”
The Prime Minister is being asked to support a request for a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza. UK citizens were killed in attacks carried out by Hamas in Israel.
He will meet with Mr. Netanyahu and Mr. One of the things he will do is offer his sympathy for the civilians who have been killed in the war. Afterwards, he will visit other nearby city capitals.
The journey, which happens after German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s on Tuesday and Mr Biden’s the next day, shows that the Western leaders are standing together.
They are part of a group called the Quint, which includes the US, UK, Germany, France, and Italy. The leaders of these countries spoke soon after Hamas attacked Israel earlier this month.
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, will be coming to visit Israel very soon.
The people with Mr. Sunak say that his visit will mainly be about showing support for Israel in person. He will also ask for help to reach the people in Gaza who need aid, and he will stress the importance of Israel being careful and calm in its approach to a ground invasion.
MrBiden’s visit was overshadowed by a very bad explosion at a hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday.
He said the explosion seemed to have happened because a rocket launched by Palestinian militants didn’t work as planned, which supports what Israel said about the incident.
But Palestinian leaders said that an attack from Israeli fighter jets targeted the hospital.
During the Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday, Mr Sunak stated that British intelligence agencies were trying to find out who was responsible for the explosion. He advised Members of Parliament not to make hasty conclusions.
In a later statement, Mr. Sunak said: “The attack on Al-Ahli Hospital should be a turning point for leaders in the region and around the world to unite and prevent further dangerous escalation of conflict.
I will make sure that the UK is leading the way in this effort.
It is not known what will happen during the rest of the prime minister’s trip. There are many complicated factors involving security and diplomacy that make it difficult to plan exactly where he will go. The night before Mr. Sunak’s trip, many people gathered outside Downing Street in London to remember and honor those who died in the hospital explosion.
In another part of the city, King Charles spoke with strong emotion about the importance of being accepting of different religions and showing respect to one another. He mentioned the ongoing conflicts in Israel and Gaza as examples of global unrest.
The prime minister is visiting Gaza because Israel has been warning about a possible attack on the ground. They are worried about the people’s well-being there.
Israeli warplanes and artillery have been continuously attacking Gaza since over 1,400 people died during an unexpected Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th.
Over 3,000 people have lost their lives in many air attacks on Gaza by the Israeli army.
Israel has stopped fuel, water, food, and medical supplies from going into the area since Hamas attacked. They are also asking for the release of many hostages that Hamas took into Gaza.
Over a million people in Gaza have been forced to leave their homes. Gaza is a very crowded place, and there is not enough of important things like food and water.
President Biden said that Israel and Egypt have agreed to let essential aid reach Gaza. But Israel said it won’t let any help go through its own land until Hamas frees the people it’s holding captive.
MrSunak said that the UK is working very hard to rescue people who have been kidnapped by Hamas.
At least seven people from Britain were killed in the attack on Israel. The UK government said that there are nine more UK citizens who have not been found yet.
Foreign Secretary James Cleverly also had a meeting with the Egyptian counterpart while he was on his trip to the Middle East.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry talked about how different countries are trying to stop the conflict from getting worse and get help to the people in Gaza. Cleverly will also have meetings with leaders from Turkey and Qatar soon.

The UK Met Office said that the heavy rain could make driving hard and there is a small chance that houses and businesses could get flooded.

‘People were saved using boats’
In simple words: On Thursday morning, County Cork’s mayor, Frank O’Flynn, told BBC News NI that he thinks around 150 buildings may have been harmed by flooding.
He said he saw a distance of “up to four feet” (1. 2m) on Midleton’s Main Street.
“He said that it rained about 94 milliliters in a day. ”
There were some people who had to use boats and canoes. Some people had to be saved by being taken in boats.
Mr O’Flynn said that two schools in the town were impacted, and that the children and young individuals were transported to safety on army vehicles.
The mayor remembered that Midleton had been harmed by floods in 2009 and 2015, but he said, “This was the worst of them all. ”
“He requested that the government provide urgent money for the homes and businesses that have been harmed, as well as a plan to prevent future flooding,” he stated.
His plan would involve the building of walls to keep floodwater out and protect the town of Midleton.
Cork County Council posted on Twitter that they know about flooding in other nearby towns and villages such as Carrigaline, Castletownbere, Ringaskiddy, Whitegate, Rathcormac, Glandore, Halfwa, and Raffeen.
RTÉ, the Irish public service broadcaster, said that there were also reports of flooding in the areas of Killeagh and Youghal in County Cork.

Gabon’s military leader, Gen Brice Oligui Nguema, has announced that he will no longer receive a salary as the president. Instead, he will only be paid for his role as the commander of the republican guard.
He became the temporary president after President Ali Bongo was removed from power in August.
On Wednesday night, the person speaking for the military government said that Gen Nguema made the decision because he knew that the people of Gabon needed help and had many things they hoped for.
Col Ulrich Manfoumbi said that every day that goes by, the [junta] is becoming more and more aware of how the country is getting worse, especially when it comes to public finances.
Former President Bongo, who ruled for 14years, was accused of stealing money and being involved in other illegal activities. The group in charge now says that the country’s finances have been greatly harmed by these criminal acts.
Besides giving up his salary as president, Gen Nguema also chose to decrease the amount of money the government spends by reducing the payments given to lawmakers, getting rid of funds for political purposes, and cutting back-on the money given for meetings. The government said this would bring together all the money of the state.
The recent action is seen as a way to make the people of Gabon trust their leaders again.

Ghanaian rap legend Okyeame Kwame, sparked a significant social media discussion with his unconventional stance on fidelity during a recent appearance on the ‘Brocode’ Podcast.
He boldly asserted that being involved with someone other than your partner while in a committed relationship does not necessarily constitute cheating.
His perspective, challenging traditional norms, has ignited a fiery debate on the internet. The discourse is divided between those who support his views and those who vehemently disagree, labeling his perspective as misguided and impractical in terms of relationship behavior.
Okyeame Kwame, known for his candid and forthright nature, did not hesitate to express his views on what qualifies as infidelity. He suggested that cheating is a relative term and may not always involve engaging with other individuals while committed to a partner.
This audacious perspective has naturally drawn attention and criticism. Many social media users have voiced their disapproval, indicating that such an outlook could potentially undermine the foundations of trust and commitment in a relationship.
However, a portion of the online community has shown support for Okyeame Kwame’s perspective. They argue that the traditional definition of cheating is outdated and needs to evolve with changing societal norms.
Regardless of the differing views, Okyeame Kwame’s statements have undoubtedly initiated a new dialogue about fidelity and commitment in modern relationships.

Ibrahim Wadi, who is 62 years old, and his son, Ahmad, who is 24 years old, were going to a funeral for four Palestinians who were killed by Israeli settlers in their community in the occupied West Bank. While they were driving in their car, they were attacked.
The dad and son were driving in a small village called Qusra, near Nablus. This village has had a lot of violence lately. On Thursday, while they were driving, some armed settlers shot at them. Relatives told CNN that the men were taken to a hospital close by and passed away shortly after because of their injuries.
At least 61 people, including children, have been killed in the occupied West Bank since October 7. Hamas attacked Israel unexpectedly and it was a first-time occurrence. This information comes from the Palestinian Ministry of Health there. Over 1,250 people have been hurt.
The attack by Hamas has caused the death of over 1,400 people in Israel, mostly ordinary people, and it is believed that at least 199 people are being held captive in Gaza, as reported by Israeli authorities.
Israel has declared a “total blockade” in response to the situation and has attacked multiple areas in the Gaza Strip. This has resulted in the deaths of at least 3,478 people. The health ministry in Gaza, which is under Hamas control, has also mentioned the possibility of a ground invasion. Right now, there is growing tension in the West Bank. Palestinians in the area have been involved in conflicts with both Israeli forces and settlers, and unfortunately, some Palestinians have lost their lives.
Hani Odeh, the mayor of Qusra, said to CNN that Israeli settlers freely move around the village with the support of the Israeli police. He told someone from COGAT, an organization in Israel, that he was going to the funeral with Ahmad and Ibrahim.
A little while ago, the Israeli person advised him to choose a different path instead of the usual one to stay away from the settlers in the area. Surprisingly, the road Odeh and the others were told to go on had settlers on it. Sadly, the settlers ended up shooting and killing Ahmad and Ibrahim while they were in their car.
Odeh said to CNN that he saw the attack from his own car while Israeli soldiers were guarding the street. He approached an officer and asked him to make the settlers go away, but nobody took any action. He explained that it seemed like a trap.
CNN asked COGAT and the IDF for a response to Odeh’s claims, but they haven’t received a reply yet.
BrigadierGeneral Hagari said that anyone who tries to oppose us in Judea and Samaria, which are the Jewish names for the West Bank, will face a strong and powerful response.
CNN talked to people who live in the West Bank and they told CNN that they are scared of violence from the Israeli army and security forces. They are also worried about revenge attacks from the approximately 700,000 Israeli settlers who live in that area. In simple words: Recently, there have been a lot of violent incidents in the West Bank, including attacks by settlers. These incidents have been happening more frequently than before, and one attack was so severe that an Israeli military commander described it as a “pogrom. ”
Even before the fighting with Hamas, there was already a lot of tension in the West Bank. Israel started going into the West Bank after there were many attacks from Palestinians. They were looking for places where they believed militants were gathered. The violence caused a lot of deaths among both Palestinians and Israelis, more than at any time in the past ten years.
Days after the violent incident in Qusra, a town with about 7,000 people, the residents are still shocked and upset. Pictures remembering the six people who died cover the walls of houses and buildings. The air feels very sad and empty.
Cars are set on fire, water pumps are damaged, and electricity lines are broken near an apartment building located at the outskirts of the village where the initial four murders happened. There is broken glass all over the floor, and there are bullet holes on the walls.
On October 11, some people with weapons attacked the building. This made the residents ask for help. When a few neighbors came to the place, the settlers started shooting and killed four people. The people who died were Musa’ab Abu Raidi, who was 19 years old, Obaida Abu Srour, who was 18 years old, Hassan Muhannad, who was 22 years old, and Moath Odesa, who was 29 years old.
Rabeea, who is 19 years old, and her younger brother Abdulrahman, who is 12 years old, were in their apartment building. They were really scared as they saw the attack happening. The brothers and sisters, who requested CNN to not mention their last name because they worry about punishment from Israeli settlers, described how settlers threw rocks and shot at the building while they, along with their mother, hid inside.
Their big brother and his 6-year-old daughter got hurt and are getting help at a hospital close by. Odeh, who is the mayor, said in an interview with CNN that there were 12 people, including them, who had to be taken to the hospital following the attack.
Rabeea explains that her brother cannot sleep at night because he is feeling very scared to be by himself. CNN visited the family while they were putting their stuff in boxes and getting ready to relocate to a different village.
I feel really upset. “I want to cry, but what can we do. “”I want to remain here, but we are unable to take any action. ”
They have come here in the past. Seven years ago, Rabeea and Abdulrahman told everyone that their father was killed by Israeli settlers close to Nablus. Their family had to move to Qusra because they were scared of getting attacked. Now, they are feeling very afraid to stay, so they are being forced to leave their home once more.
Israel gained control of the West Bank in 1967 during a war and has occupied it since. Israeli citizens have moved into the area, sometimes with military protection. The people who live there hope that the West Bank will become part of a future Palestinian state.
Many countries believe that these settlements break the rules of international law. However, Israeli governments have promised to continue supporting them. Israel sees the West Bank as an area where there is disagreement about who should control it, and they believe that their actions of building settlements there are allowed by the law.
This year, after the election of a very conservative and extreme government in Israel led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, there has been increased violence between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank.
By mid-September of this year, the United Nations reported that there were 798 incidents caused by settlers in the occupied territory, which resulted in 216 Palestinians getting hurt. During that time, Israeli soldiers caused the death of 179 Palestinians in the West Bank.
The IDF claims that most of the people they target are either suspected of being involved in terrorism or are engaging in violent actions against their troops during raids. However, they do not always provide proof for this claim.
People who have moved to live in a new place have been accused of hurting Palestinians. In addition to killings, these attacks have also involved physical attacks, causing harm to property, and disturbing behavior towards others.
Odeh said that they want to make Palestinians leave their homes and eventually leave the occupied West Bank.
This year, due to global criticism, Netanyahu told Jewish settlers that they can’t take land in the West Bank without the Israeli government’s approval. But with him as the leader, Israel has given permission for a lot of new houses to be built in West Bank settlements.
People in the government who are part of a right-wing group have been accused of causing harm to Palestinians. These government members include National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who are settlers themselves.
After Hamas attacked on October 7, Palestinians are facing strict limits on how they can move around the West Bank and between the West Bank and Israel. Israeli military forces have closed off checkpoints and roads, making it difficult for people to travel, as reported by residents speaking to CNN.
Palestinians who live in the West Bank said to CNN that the closure has made a big impact on their daily lives. It has limited their ability to travel for work, school, medical treatment, and other important activities.
During a conversation with US President Joe Biden, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas asked for an immediate stop to attacks on people living in Palestinian areas by settlers in the West Bank. He also emphasized the importance of preventing the killing of innocent people on both sides.
At Ibrahim and Ahmad’s house, which was not far from the apartment building that was attacked in Qusra, their family was very sad on Sunday. They could see an Israeli settlement getting closer to their home. The family includes their wives, daughters, and sisters.
Thank goodness, we are powerful. “And if God allows, we will keep having the energy and calmness,” Khitam Wadi, the wife of Ibrahim and mother of Ahmad, told CNN.
My husband really enjoyed his land. He protected his property. “And we will keep doing the same as long as we are alive,” she said.
Clearly upset, Khitam struggled to explain her sadness. But the younger women in the family, even though they were hurting, were determined to stick to their opinions.
I feel unhappy, obviously. All of this has an impact on me, but it doesn’t make me weaker. Aseel, who is Ibrahim’s daughter and Ahmad’s sister, said that we have always experienced the same thing and nothing has changed in our lives.
This is where we live. My dad showed me how important it is to care about and appreciate my country. I will teach my children the same things. And I will stay forever.
The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has criticized President Akufo-Addo’s efforts to combat corruption.
According to the GBA, numerous instances of corruption have not been subjected to thorough investigations, and there have been instances where individuals implicated in corrupt practices have been exonerated without any repercussions.
During a press conference held in Accra, GBA President Yaw Acheampong Boafo conveyed the association’s disappointment with the state of the anti-corruption campaign.
“If your goal in coming to government is to enrich yourself then don’t come, go to the private. The public sector is going to be about public service exactly. This undertaking gave hope to Ghanaians of the emergence of a new dawn of politics.”
“However, it is our view, with several related corruption-related incidents involving some of the political appointees and also among some public officers under the current administration and the lethargic manner with which they are dealt with and even defended and protected leaves a lot to be desired,” he stated.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has underscored the importance of dispelling the notion that individuals elected to public office are inherently corrupt and that law enforcement and anti-corruption bodies tend to show favoritism to the ruling government.
He stressed that security agencies and other anti-corruption organizations, including the Ghana Police Service (GPS), are committed to serving the public’s interests rather than the interests of any specific individual or government.
President Akufo-Addo called on everyone to reject the perception that elected officials are inherently corrupt and in office with the intention to engage in corrupt practices.
“We ought to pray for the understanding in Ghana that not everybody elected in this office is a thief. It’s an assumption in our country that people who come to political offices enrich themselves. Some of us would have been better off in the private sector. It is an assumption that we ought to work hard and try and dispel.”
“And part of dispelling will be encouraging a belief in these institutions of our state. These institutions that have been set up whether it is the police, or anti-corruption agencies are working in the interest of Ghana and not of the government of the day.
“And we should all find a way of bolstering the confidence of the people in them…We have to pray that that becomes understood and that becomes a reality,” President Akufo-Addo said when the new Chairman of the Christian Council, Rt. Rev. Dr. Hilliad Dogbe led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House.
The Ghana Bar Association is urging President @NAkufoAddo to uphold his commitment to preventing corruption within his administration.
The association noted that recent corruption reports contradict his intentions.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping said on Thursday that a two-state solution, where Palestine becomes an independent country, is the best way to resolve the Israel-Hamas conflict. This is his first public statement about the war that started almost two weeks ago.
China’s leader Xi wants a ceasefire quickly to stop the conflict from getting worse and causing a big humanitarian crisis.
Xi said that China is ready to work with Egypt and Arab nations to find a fair and long-lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
The leader of Egypt went to Beijing to participate in the Belt and Road Forum, a big event celebrating ten years of Xi’s global infrastructure project.
Xi also commended Egypt for playing a significant part in reducing tensions. He mentioned that China supports Egypt’s efforts to allow humanitarian aid to be delivered to Gaza.
On Wednesday, Egypt said it would let supplies for people in Gaza come in through the border, with the help of US President Joe Biden and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Biden made an agreement during his 7-hour visit to Israel on Wednesday. This visit was important because it showed strong support for the US friend, Israel, while also asking them to be careful in how they react to the situation in Gaza.
However, it is still uncertain when the aid convoy will be permitted to go into Gaza. Additionally, the original agreement for 20 trucks is only a small part of the 100 trucks per day that the World Health Organization states is required.
The fighting started when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, causing the death of around 1,400 people. This conflict has highlighted the growing disagreements between powerful countries.
Israel has attacked and trapped Gaza, causing the death of about 3,500 Palestinians, including many children, as reported by local health authorities.
A short time before Biden arrived in Israel, Putin arrived in Beijing for the Belt and Road Forum. The leader who was not well connected with other countries was treated as a special guest. They were seated beside Xi and spoke after him at the start of a meeting, which lasted for three hours, between the two leaders.
During their meeting, the two leaders talked about the problem in the Middle East. Putin said it was a big issue that made Russia and China become closer.
China and Russia have asked for the fighting to stop in the increasing conflict and have not directly criticized Hamas. This is very different from the strong support that the US and leaders in Europe have shown for Israel.
Beijing’s decision not to criticize Hamas has made Israel angry and disappointed. US officials have also criticized this decision. China has not criticized Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, which has made many European capitals angry.
As the fighting in Israel gets worse, Beijing has shown stronger support for the Palestinians. Over the weekend, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi criticized Israel for taking actions that he believes go beyond self-defense.
However, China has tried to show itself as a fair peacemaker in the conflict.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that they will be sending Middle East Envoy Zhai Jun to the region this week. His goal is to promote peace talks and encourage a ceasefire.
China really cares about its business with Russia and the Middle East. They want to make sure they can keep buying oil and gas from those places no matter what.
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is issuing a stern warning regarding the grave repercussions of utilizing classrooms as makeshift shelters during emergencies.
GNAT contends that this practice disrupts the process of teaching and learning, especially when classrooms are repurposed as emergency shelters.
The General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah, emphasized during an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News, broadcast on Citi FM, that the current use of classrooms in regions affected by the overflow of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams is likely to force children into child labor. This is due to the closure of schools in these areas to accommodate stranded individuals in need of shelter.
“If you go to the developed world, there are places like community centres where, in times of emergency, they carry the people there. But in Ghana, the classrooms become host centres in times of difficulty, and what that means is that teaching and learning will come to a standstill so long as this particular situation will not go. And if you look at that particular area, it is along the lake and all the rivers around that fishing goes on, and so we are pushing the children there into child labour. And once they go there, they will not come back.”
Mr. Musah also sounded an alarm regarding the potential repercussions of delaying the delivery of relief supplies to alleviate the suffering of the affected population. He called on Ghanaians to come together and pool their resources to ensure that those in distress receive the essential support they require.
“If care is not taken, and we take things for granted and things get out of hand at the place, there may be issues that we may not be able to contain because people may start demonstrating in ways that we may not like, and we don’t even know when it will end. And some of the children may even go back into child labour. We have long-term and short-term consequences, and the best way to go is for us all to find a solution to bring the people out of this situation.”
“We need to give it all the attention that it deserves to get them out of the situation that they find themselves in because some are bitter, and they are complaining and lamenting. And so let us all go to the aid of the people and see how best we can bring them out of the situation.”

Some Arab countries that are usually friendly to the United States were not very receptive to President Joe Biden and his diplomats when they traveled to the Middle East to try and stop the conflict between Israel and Hamas from spreading to other countries.
Jordan, Egypt, and the Palestinian Authority decided not to meet with Biden just a day before they were supposed to have a meeting together in the city of Amman, Jordan. The cancellation happened after a big explosion at a hospital in Gaza called Al-Ahli Baptist. It was said that this explosion caused the death of many Palestinians. Palestinian officials said Israel caused the explosion in the hospital, but Israeli officials said it happened because an Islamic Jihad rocket went off accidentally.
“The meeting cannot end the war, which is our goal,” said Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in an interview with Al Jazeera on Wednesday. He referred to the explosion at the hospital as a war crime. “So, we chose not to have it,” he said.
Biden came to Tel Aviv on Wednesday. He met with Benjamin Netanyahu, who is the Prime Minister of Israel, and also with some people from the Israeli war cabinet. The president promised to support Israel and told Netanyahu that the explosion at the hospital seems like it was caused by someone else, not Israel. The National Security Council said on Wednesday that the government currently thinks that Israel is not responsible for the blast.
CNN is unable to confirm on its own what caused the explosion and how many people were hurt.
Arab leaders are worried and upset because the United States is heavily supporting Israel in the war. They are now trying to distance themselves from the Biden administration because people in the Arab countries are getting angrier at Israel. More than 3,478 people have died in Gaza since the attack on Israel by Hamas. The attack in Israel caused the deaths of at least 1,400 people.
After the explosion in the hospital was reported on Tuesday, people in Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Iran, and Turkey, as well as in Ramallah in the West Bank, started protesting against Israel.
Arab leaders might be cautious about protests happening in their own countries as they see constant coverage of the Gaza war on Arabic news channels, including distressing images of Palestinians who have died. Protests in Jordan are more likely to happen because many of its people have Palestinian roots.
Egypt announced that it will mourn the victims of the Gaza hospital for three days.
Abdul Khaleq Abdulla, a commentator from the United Arab Emirates, who knows about official opinions, said that Biden has shown a unique emotional connection to Israel, unlike any past US president. Arab countries are very surprised and unhappy that Biden is not criticizing Israel or stopping the violence.
“He told CNN that people now believe he is equally responsible for the crime against Palestinians. Arab countries are now avoiding him and not giving him attention. ”
Egypt and Jordan, countries next to Israel and the Palestinian territories, are against a plan by the US to create a safe path for Palestinians escaping Gaza into Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, which is next to Gaza.
Jordan’s King Abdullah said on Tuesday that it is not acceptable for Palestinians to be forced to leave their homes and move to Jordan or Egypt. He also made it clear that neither Jordan nor Egypt will allow refugees from Gaza to come into their countries. He said that suggesting that the two countries should accept Gazan refugees is a plan “by some people who always do this to cause problems on the ground. ” This suggests that the refugees may not be allowed to go back to their homes.
The proposal from the US has made people in the Arab world very angry. The media in the Arab world believes that the suggestion would benefit Israel by removing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, and possibly even taking control of it again. This would leave the Palestinians without homes and with no chance of returning. Israel controlled Gaza from 1967 to 2005 and moved Jewish people to live there during that time.
Egyptian newspapers have strongly criticized the idea of forcing Palestinians to leave their homes. They believe that this would be a devastating event similar to the 1948 Nakba, which resulted in around 700,000 Palestinians being forced to flee or leave their homes during the Arab-Israeli war that led to the establishment of Israel. Many people living in Gaza were forced to leave their homes and became refugees because their families originally came from parts of Israel.
During a press conference, the Egyptian President strongly expressed his opinion that Israel, not Egypt, should be responsible for accepting Palestinian refugees.
Sisi said that if Israel has a plan to force out Gazans, they can move them to the Naqab desert in Israel until Israel finishes their operation to destroy the resistance groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza.
He said that if people from Gaza go to Sinai, it could become a place for people trying to harm Israel. This could make Israel attack Egypt.
Timothy Kaldas, who works at a policy institute in Washington, DC, said that Arab leaders don’t want to appear like they are helping in removing people from Gaza.
Sisi is trying very hard to put some distance between himself and his Western partners on this matter. He wants to protect himself from the possibility of facing a lot of public criticism and anger.
Sisi said this after his foreign minister, Sameh Shoukry, talked about how Europe and the US worry about many refugees coming in, and Egypt feels the same way.
Egypt is already home to nine million refugees. Should we expect them to welcome another one or two million people. That’s what Shoukry, an Egyptian official, asked during an interview with CNN on Tuesday. He said he didn’t know why the Palestinians were being moved, and he thought it might be on purpose.
Kaldas said that Western governments, who have become friends with Arab rulers, often see it as an advantage to ignore what the general public thinks. He said it might not be true, especially at this time.
Kaldas said that even in autocracies, the people living there still have their own thoughts, feelings, and limits which should be recognized. “And this is definitely something that has made everyone in Egypt very angry. ”
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has generously contributed GH₵160,000 from his personal funds to aid the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
Numerous communities across eight districts, primarily in the Volta Region but also in the Eastern and Greater Accra Regions, have suffered displacement due to the dam’s overflow. Dr. Bawumia presented this donation during his visit to some of the affected communities in the Volta Region on Wednesday, October 17, 2023.
The government has already taken action by relocating affected individuals to 20 holding centers and providing essential emergency relief supplies through the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and an inter-ministerial committee established to oversee disaster management.
Dr. Bawumia’s personal contribution is intended to complement the assistance provided by the government to the displaced victims. While expressing his heartfelt sympathies, the Vice President assured the victims that the government is fully dedicated to delivering both immediate solutions and relief to help them rebuild their lives.
“When I look into the eyes of our mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers who are seated here, I see so much sadness. Their lives have been turned upside down as a result of what has happened,” Dr. Bawumia said.
“These are people who were going about their normal duties every day to take care of themselves, but now they have to really depend on others for livelihood, and I am saddened by that.
“I want to assure that the government will do everything possible to assist the affected people to provide relief and also restore the livelihood of those affected.
“We are not only looking at temporary relief, we are also looking at a more sustained support through the Inter-Ministerial Committee, so that those affected can restore their livelihoods.”
During his visit, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia toured several communities, including New Bakpa in the Central Tongu District, as well as Sogakope and Sokpoe, both located in the South Tongu District.
He was joined by a delegation of government officials, including the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery; Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah; Volta Regional Minister, Archibald Letsa; and representatives from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the Volta River Authority (VRA).
The Executive Director of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has refuted allegations that certain Civil Society Organizations had approached the Speaker of Parliament in an attempt to impede the ongoing investigation into the leaked audio involving certain Police officers.
The Speaker had established a Committee to examine the audio recording, which purportedly revealed Police Officers conspiring with a Politician to have the current IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, removed from his position.
In the audio, COP Alex Mensah, a senior police officer, asserted that if the current IGP retained his position, he would obstruct the ruling NPP’s efforts to secure victory in the 2024 election.
All individuals featured in the recording, including the IGP, had subsequently appeared before the Parliamentary Committee.
Nonetheless, there were indications that some figures from civil society, among them Franklin Cudjoe, expressed reservations regarding the committee’s proceedings. They allegedly met with the Speaker to urge him to suspend the investigation in order to protect the IGP’s reputation.
Nevertheless, during an interview, Cudjoe categorically denied the validity of these claims.
The General Legal Council (GLC) has reversed its earlier decision to admit Ms. Elorm Ababio, who is widely recognized on social media as Ama Governor, to the bar.
This change was communicated in a letter dated October 18, 2023, signed by Justice Cynthia Pamela Addo, the Secretary to the GLC.
The GLC explained that although Ms. Ababio had submitted the appropriate application and was initially scheduled to be called to the bar on October 20, 2023, the council has now reconsidered its decision.
According to the letter, upon receiving her application, Ms. Ababio had been informed that her conduct would be closely monitored by the Council, in adherence to the regulations governing the legal profession.
“In line with the General Legal Council’s letter dated 13th March, 2023, Council was to observe and monitor your conduct during the time leading up to the submission of your application to be called to the bar” the GLC stated.
The letter indicated that Ms Ababio couldn’t meet the criteria, hence her application to be called to the Ghanaian bar has been declined.
“At the meeting of the General Legal Council held on Tuesday, 17th October, 2023, your application to be called to the bar was declined on account of elements noted in your public conduct prior to the application,” the Council explained.
The General Legal Council (GLC) has allowed Ms. Elorm Ababio, popularly known as Ama Governor, to re-apply for admission to the bar any time after October 20, 2023.
The GLC will continue to monitor Ms. Ababio’s conduct until it is satisfied that she meets the standards required for admission to the bar.
Elorm Ama Ababio, also known as Ama Governor, is a Ghanaian YouTuber, social media influencer, and aspiring lawyer. In November 2022, a complaint was filed against her for behavior on social media that was deemed unsuitable for the legal profession. The complainant argued that Ama had been featured in viral videos that were not in line with the conduct expected of a prospective lawyer.
As a result, she was denied admission to the bar, despite having completed her legal studies, passed her exams, and successfully completed her interview. Ama, along with the support of various Ghanaians on social media, engaged in legal battles and online petitions against the General Legal Council.
In September, Ama publicly asserted that her sexual orientation should not be a barrier to her admission to the bar. She claimed victory in her legal battle against the Council and was set to be called to the bar in October 2023. However, with only a few days remaining before her enrollment ceremony, she has been informed that she must re-apply.
Egypt has agreed to let trucks with supplies go into Gaza. People all around the world are getting more and more angry about Israel locking up Gaza as punishment for the violent Hamas attacks that happened almost two weeks ago.
The continuous attacks on Gaza by Israel have caused more and more people in the Middle East to express their anger through protests. This has also increased concerns that the war could lead to a bigger conflict involving other countries in the region.
While returning from his trip to Israel, US President Joe Biden announced that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi agreed to open the Rafah crossing into Gaza for humanitarian assistance. The crossing is not under Israel’s control.
Biden said that around 20 trucks from an aid convoy that has been waiting for many days at the closed border gate will be allowed to enter Gaza. Biden said that the roads near the crossing have big holes from Israeli airstrikes, so they need to be repaired before the trucks can go through. He said that the work could be completed in eight hours on Thursday before the first aid supplies are delivered on Friday.
We are talking with different groups to make sure that we can send essential items to the people in need. Currently, we are in the middle of these discussions. “We’re trying our best to bring them in as quickly as possible,” said UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq to CNN on Wednesday.
We don’t know how much the first delivery will help the Gazan people who are suffering from a severe crisis that is affecting many people and getting worse, according to the World Health Organization.
“We are hopeful that the aid deal will not fail,” said Richard Brennan, a representative from WHO, on Thursday. He added that there are many challenging factors in starting this aid operation.
This is not a short race. This is only the beginning. This is a long race. He said it was a very long and difficult task, with the goal of distributing aid to 100 trucks per day.
Biden said that the crossing would only allow aid to enter, not people being evacuated. This means that the 2. 2 million Palestinians, including foreign nationals and dual citizens, who are stuck in Gaza have an uncertain future as they have no way to leave.
Over the past week, more and more Palestinians in Gaza have been asking for help. They moved towards the south because Israel told them to leave the north. However, they discovered that there was no safe place in the crowded area.
As the airstrikes continue nonstop, hospitals are running out of medicine and fuel to keep their lights on. The medical staff is overwhelmed and trying their best to save lives.
UN agencies are saying that stores are almost out of food and Gaza’s last seawater desalination plant has stopped working. This means there is a higher chance of more people getting sick or dying from lack of water and diseases passed through water.
For almost 17 years, Israel has stopped air, land, and sea access to Gaza, which has resulted in the strip being mostly cut off from the rest of the world. Things were already verybad before the war – and are getting even worse quickly after Israel stopped providing things to Gaza following the attack by Hamas, the group that controls the strip.
The murder and kidnapping spree resulted in the death of around 1,400 people in Israel. Most of the victims were regular people, not soldiers. This terrible event is considered the worst killing of Jewish people since the Holocaust. Hamas has taken control of about 150 people and is holding them against their will.
Since the past few days, around 3,500 people have been killed in Gaza, as confirmed by Palestinian health officials. Among the victims, there are many women and children who have lost their lives.
People in Arab nations were already getting really angry. However, it became very violent after a large explosion happened in Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza on Tuesday. Gaza authorities said that this explosion caused the death of hundreds of innocent people.
Palestinian officials say Israel bombed the hospital, but Israel says it didn’t.
Israel presented evidence on Wednesday that proves a rocket misfire by the Islamic Jihad militant group.
Biden supported that explanation on Wednesday, referring to information from US intelligence. A representative from the National Security Council said that after looking at pictures from above, intercepted messages, and public information, it seems like Israel is not to blame.
Islamic Jihad, a group that goes against Hamas, stated that they are not responsible.
However, many Arab countries expressed disapproval and blamed Israel’s military for bombing the hospital. This led to thousands of protesters gathering in Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, and Tunisia, shouting slogans against Israel.
Other countries and international organizations, like the United Nations, have shown shock and sadness at the number of deaths and advised that we should wait until we have all the facts before blaming anyone.
The explosion happened shortly before Biden was scheduled to go to the Middle East. This caused a lot of panic and confusion among the people working for him. As a result, the important meeting with Arab leaders in Jordan had to be rescheduled.
But Biden said his talk with Egypt’s Sisi, which happened while their plane was refueling, went well. “See, I came here to finish a task, and I finish edit,” he said to CNN.
He did not provide detailed information about the efforts made to rescue Americans and other civilians from Gaza, but mentioned that he was optimistic about the progress being made in those attempts.
There are worries that protests against Israel are increasing in the Middle East, and this could lead to more conflicts, especially on Israel’s border with Lebanon. In that region, a militia supported by Iran is in control and has been fighting with Israel’s military recently.
The spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces is Lieutenant[Name]. Colonel Jonathan Conricus spoke to CNN on Thursday and said that Hezbollah had done something very serious. He said that the group shot many missiles at tanks from Lebanon and tried to secretly enter Israel but failed.
Conricus said that Hezbollah is causing trouble for Lebanon by involving it in a conflict that doesn’t concern it and will not bring any benefits.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping told Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Thursday that China is ready to work with Egypt to bring more certainty and stability to the region, as reported by state media.
Xi told Madbouly that the international and regional situation is changing a lot and is very complicated.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized the imperative need for the country to devise lasting solutions to address the aftermath of the Akosombo dam spillage.
The Volta River Authority (VRA) initiated the controlled release of water from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams on September 15, 2023, in response to a consistent increase in the inflow pattern and water levels of the Akosombo reservoir.
As a result of the spillage, numerous residents in areas such as South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and various other regions have seen their homes submerged.
Dr. Bawumia, who conducted a visit to the affected communities in the North, Central, and South Tongu districts on Wednesday, emphasized that a permanent solution is imperative to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
“But we need to look for long-term solutions to this flooding,” he said. “Because it will happen this year, we can deal with it now. But what of next year? Because climate change appears to be taking hold.
“A few years ago, we were all worried about the water levels of the Volta Dam because it was too low. Now, we are all worried that it is too high. We need to look for engineering solutions to the spillage of water out of the Volta dam.”
Following his tour of the flood-affected regions, Dr. Bawumia reassured the public that the government is fully committed to taking all necessary measures to support the affected areas and individuals.
He affirmed that the government would persist in delivering relief aid and working towards the restoration of the livelihoods of those impacted by the disaster.
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has made a concerning revelation, identifying individuals displaying symptoms of diarrhea residing in the emergency shelters designated for those impacted by the overflow of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams.
The Acting General Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Richard Selormey, disclosed this during an interview on Eyewitness News, which was broadcast on Citi FM.
Dr. Selormey explained that the Association had deployed a team to assist in the rescue operations in the affected regions and encountered several individuals suffering from diarrhoea and bilharzia.
“We mobilized a team of about twenty-two people, collaborating with the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association and a clinical psychologist who also volunteered from the 37 Military Hospital. They went on the ground on Tuesday and divided themselves into six different teams at the six different shelters. They are offering health education, screening, and treatment of the people,” said Dr. Selormey.
“We have noted that the most common thing being found is people having malaria as well as skin diseases and respiratory conditions because most of the centres are holding a lot of people at a go and people are in close contact. We have also noticed that there are a few people beginning to show signs of diarrhea diseases and about two people are also showing signs of bilharzia,” he added.
Dr. Selormey went on to issue a warning about the potential outbreak of waterborne diseases and urged the affected population to adhere to safety protocols while they await the arrival of relief supplies.
“Our concern is the breakout of diarrheal diseases. That can be a big problem because it can quickly spread. And then also because of the crowding, respiratory tract infections. So key is the protocols we highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic which has to do with handwashing practices and advising the people not to touch things and making sure that there is good water available,” said Dr. Selormey.
Communities downstream of the Volta Lake should brace themselves as the spilling of excess water from the Akosombo Dam will continue for at least one more week.
Consuming fruits that are rich in certain nutrients can contribute to strong bones and healthy joints. Here are five fruits that can support bone and joint health:
Oranges: Oranges are a great source of vitamin C, which is essential for the formation of collagen, a protein that helps build and repair bones, cartilage, and joints.
Pineapples: Pineapples contain bromelain, an enzyme that may help reduce inflammation and alleviate joint pain.
Bananas: Bananas are a good source of potassium, which is essential for maintaining bone health and preventing the loss of calcium from the bones.
Berries: Berries like strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are rich in antioxidants, which can help reduce inflammation and protect joint tissues.
Kiwi: Kiwi is high in vitamin K, which is crucial for bone health as it helps in the mineralization of bones.
While these fruits can be beneficial for bone and joint health, it’s essential to maintain a balanced diet that includes a variety of foods rich in vitamins and minerals. Additionally, regular physical activity and a healthy lifestyle play a significant role in maintaining strong bones and joints. If you have specific concerns about your bone and joint health, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian.
Ghana is making strides toward advancing responsible business conduct by adopting and launching its National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. This initiative is the result of ongoing collaboration between the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice, with support from other key stakeholders.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia made this announcement during the 14th Biennial Conference of the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions in Accra.
The National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights signifies Ghana’s commitment to ensuring that businesses operate responsibly, respecting human rights and ethical standards. This is a positive step toward promoting human rights and ethical business practices in the country.
The three-day conference revolved around the theme, “Nurturing Responsible Business Conduct and Respect for Human Rights in Africa: The Role of African National Human Rights Institutions in Centring Human Rights and People’s Rights in the Context of Business Operations and the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement.”
This event brought together 46 national human rights institutions from six African countries, human rights commissioners, and activists. It served as a platform for deliberating on how to advance responsible business conduct and protect the human rights of African citizens, particularly in the context of business operations and the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement.
Vice President urged national human rights institutions in Africa to continue monitoring business operations, investigating allegations of abuses, and ensuring that victims receive the necessary remedies. This underscores the critical role of these institutions in safeguarding human rights and promoting ethical business practices across the continent.
“The violations that do not get reported but come to your attention through your monitoring and engagements, take all the necessary steps available to you legally and in line with the Paris Principles to see to it that they are addressed,” Dr Bawumia advised the participants.
He commended the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) for the ground-breaking roles it had been playing in business and human rights and organising the conference to engender best practices among member countries.
“I am aware that the Commission in the year 2020 conducted a national baseline assessment on the Voluntary Principles of Security and Human Rights in the Extractive Sector in Ghana and in 2021 concluded the National Baseline Assessment on Business and Human Rights in Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration as a prelude to the processes towards the development and adoption of a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights.
“As a government, we will support the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice to always deliver on its mandate,” the Vice President assured.
“I urge all African leaders to do same for their national human rights institutions as we need very strong, independent and results oriented national human rights institutions to provide the necessary guidance in improving on the human rights records in our respective countries and the continent as a whole,” he stated.
Bawumia emphasized the need for collective action by all stakeholders, including governments, national human rights institutions, corporate actors, and civil society organizations, to advance responsible business conduct and respect for human rights. He highlighted the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights as a crucial call to action for all stakeholders to work together in making the world a better place to live.
The Vice President commended the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Joseph Whittal, for his leadership and the good work done in promoting human rights issues in Ghana. He expressed his belief that the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions would continue to build on its progress, conduct further research on business and human rights, and provide significant findings and recommendations that would shape policy, enhance the business climate, and contribute to building resilient economies in Africa, ultimately leading to sustainable development.
Dr. Bawumia affirmed the government’s anticipation of receiving the outcome document at the conclusion of the conference, indicating the government’s commitment to furthering the goals of responsible business conduct and human rights in Ghana and the broader African context.
Officials have found 189 decaying bodies at a funeral home in Colorado. This is more than the 115 bodies initially reported when they were first discovered a few weeks ago.
The authorities were notified about a bad smell at The Return to Nature Funeral Home. This funeral home specializes in eco-friendly burials.
One person in charge said that the scene was really terrifying and dangerous.
The FBI is assisting in figuring out who the remains belong to.
The Return to Nature Funeral Home is in Penrose, Colorado. It is about 30 miles (48km) south of Colorado Springs. They specialize in burials that don’t use any chemicals, like embalming fluid. Instead, they use biodegradable caskets to bury the remains.
After looking through the 2,500 square foot funeral home in Penrose, Colorado, which is about 30 miles south of Colorado Springs, officials found bodies that were not stored correctly. This caused a terrible and dangerous situation.
The bad conditions at the scene made one paramedic get a rash and had to be checked by a doctor, said Sheriff Allen Cooper of Fremont County.
In the state, it is okay to have eco-friendly funerals. However, if someone passes away, their body needs to be buried within a day or kept in a cool place.
The recently found bodies were taken out of the funeral home by October 13th and brought to the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
Officials say that the number of bodies that have been found might change because they are still working on identifying the bodies and investigating the situation.
Mr Cooper said that they are still investigating the incident, but they are also giving a lot of attention to the families that were affected. “We are committed to helping families as we transition to the next stage of this process by offering them the assistance they require. ”
A group of people, including the Fremont County Coroner’s Office and victim advocates, will inform the families. This will start within the next few days, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
The people who own the Return to Nature Funeral Home were having problems with their business. Recently, they did not pay their taxes on time and were forced to leave one of their properties.
Different groups and organizations, such as the FBI, are working together to investigate.
The Fremont County Coroner, Randy Keller, said before that it would take a long time to complete because they have to do forensic identification, like collecting fingerprints and DNA.
The FBI sent their teams to the area with special training and equipment to handle large-scale incidents.
The FBI wants families to fill out this form to help them with their investigation.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has successfully registered 910,996 new voters. A majority of the applicants (61.9 percent) used the guarantor system for registration during the recently concluded voter registration exercise.
The Limited Voter Registration Exercise took place at all 268 District Offices of the Commission from Tuesday, September 12, 2023, to October 2, 2023, in preparation for the upcoming District Level Elections.
The EC had initially projected to register 700,000 new applicants out of an estimated 1.35 million individuals who had reached the age of 18 since the last voter registration exercise in 2020.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Mr. Samuel Tettey, Deputy EC Chair in Charge of Operations, expressed the Commission’s satisfaction with the results of the exercise.
“We projected registering 700, 000 voters but we exceeded our target and registered 910,996 voters,” he said and attributed the success to the measures adopted by the EC to resolve the challenges that emerged at the initial stages.
Regional Breakdown
The number of registered voters in various regions of Ghana following the recent voter registration exercise is as follows:
Ashanti Region: 148,294
Greater Accra Region: 124,166
Western Region: 55,886
Western North Region: 31,483
Central Region: 85,152
Volta Region: 55,557
Oti Region: 36,481
Eastern Region: 92,780
Bono Region: 31,932
Ahafo Region: 22,203
Bono East Region: 39,804
Savannah Region: 21,754
Northern Region: 66,510
North East Region: 24,667
Upper East Region: 43,641
Upper West Region: 20,656
Mr. Tettey provided a breakdown of the registration methods used by new voters, with 61.9 percent using the guarantor system, 37.8 percent using the Ghana Card, and 0.3 percent using the passport.
Additionally, the Commission recorded 9,720 challenged cases during the registration process. It was mentioned that individuals who provided guarantees for more than 10 applicants in violation of registration laws would face prosecution.
“We have data on applicants, who guaranteed for more than 10 applicants against the law. We will submit the details to the Attorney General for advice,” he said.
Mr. Tettey reported that during the voter transfer window, a total of 105,863 registered voters applied to transfer their votes to different locations.
The EC’s decision to conduct the registration solely at its district offices raised concerns and sparked outrage over the potential difficulties that eligible voters in remote areas might face during the registration process. Initially, the registration process experienced a slow start due to challenges related to internet connectivity, resulting in crowded registration centers.
Mr Tettey said the issue of internet connectivity challenges, which was encountered on the first day, was resolved “swiftly”.
“Ninety per cent of applicants registered online whiles only 10 per cent registered offline,” he said..
Mr Tettey said the EC remained in favour of phasing out the guarantor system in the country’s registration process, saying the current system “is fraught with abuse”.
“If we are committed to strengthening our electoral system, the guarantor system should be abolished sooner or later,” he said.
He appealed to the Government to release adequate resources to the National Identification Authority to enable it to deliver cards to applicants quickly.
The Volta River Authority (VRA) has taken a significant step to alleviate the challenges faced by individuals affected by the spillage from the Akosombo Dam.
The assistance includes various relief items such as rice, cartons of mackerel, cooking oil, tomato paste, soft drinks, biscuits, powdered milk, mosquito coils, palm oil, toilet rolls, beans, gari, groundnut, and sachet water.
In addition to relief items, the organizations has supplied medical items and personnel to address emerging health issues and provide medical treatment.
To facilitate the transportation of people and goods, buses and pickups have been made available, and tankers have been deployed to ensure a consistent supply of water to those affected by the spillage. This coordinated effort is aimed at providing essential relief and support to the affected communities.
A statement by VRA noted that the damaged water supply system in the North Tongu district has been successfully restored.
The areas affected by the spillage from the Akosombo Dam include North Tongu, Central Tongu, South Tongu, Asuogyaman, Shail Osudoku, Anlo, Keta Municipal, Keta South Municipal, and Ada East. This significant event has impacted the lives of more than 26,000 individuals.
The government has pledged to provide additional support to the victims to help them recover from the effects of the spillage and regain their stability.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamudu Bawumia, has urged delegates to cast aside the idea that the party is tribalistic and cast a large number of ballots in support of him in order to “Break the 8” in 2024.
Declaring that he was the only candidate for president that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) feared to see, he urged party delegates to rally around ‘Team Bawumia’ by casting a sizable majority of ballots for him at the party’s congress in November.
“I am the third person from the North to contest the presidential primary of the party and the support is across the sixteen regions with everyone supporting Dr Bawumia, because I have what it takes to win the 2024 elections,” he said.
“We in the NPP are trying to do something that has never happened. We are breaking the Eight. When the party opened the nomination, I picked the form so I could break the eight for the New Patriotic Party,” he said.
Speaking to party delegates in Tumu ahead of the November 4 elections, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia stated that he should be chosen to lead the party because he had won all 16 regions in the Super Delegates Congress.
“If you look at our party and the antecedents and how we have been maligned, our opponents tell people that we vote on tribal lines.
On November 4, 2023, we shall send a signal to show them we are not a tribalistic party by sending a message that we are a national party,” Dr Bawumia said.
“History tells us that the party doesn’t engage in tribal politics when we are electing leaders, as we are made up of different political groupings from different parts of the country.
He clarified, “Our antecedents are the National Liberation Movement from Ashanti, the Northern Peoples Party from the North, the Anlo Youth Congress, the Ga People, and the Muslim Association Party, which united to form the United Party, which is now the NPP.”
The Vice President emphasised that Busia’s party only won one seat in the 1954 elections, while the Northern Peoples Party won twelve.
This, he said, made the Northern People’s Party the largest opposition party yet it ceded the leadership to Professor Kofi Abrefa Busia, making him the opposition leader and “it tells you one thing that the Northern People’s Party was not choosing leadership on tribal lines”.
He said in recent history, the first Northern candidate who contested in NPP was Alhaji Malik Alhassan Yakubu, who contested former President John A. Kufuor but the people of the North voted for J.A. Kufuor as the party wanted the one who could win elections.
“That showed that the North did not vote for Alhaji Malik Alhassan Yakubu and that showed the North was not tribalistic,” he stressed.
Dr. Bawumia stated, “During the tenure of Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, may his memory be blessed, he opposed the incumbent, President Akuffo Addo. This further demonstrated how the North voted for Nana Akuffo Addo, demonstrating why the party does not continuously vote on a tribal basis.”
He continued by explaining that when Adu Boahen ran for office, the Ashanti region supported him from the Eastern region rather than Kufuor, who is from the Ashanti, because the Ashanti do not vote along tribal lines. He claimed that the Ashanti’s experience was similar to that of the North.
Vice President Bawumia stated that he was the most seasoned candidate among those standing, having run for president four times and receiving a lot of media attention.
“I know the crowd and the ground, the party has marketed me across the country, and I know how to beat my opponent,” he told the delegates.
Dr. Bawumia promised to allocate ten appointments to each constituency and twenty appointments to each region in order to address the issue of the party and government’s lack of unity.
He promised to create a database of the party members’ needs and designate certain people, particularly those employed by state institutions, as the constituency’s Godfathers and Godmothers.
Robert Beugré Mambé, the Prime Minister of Ivory Coast, is now in charge of the sports department because the country will be hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
His appointment is happening at a time when people are worried about whether the West African country is prepared for the biggest football tournament in Africa.
Last week, the sports minister of Ivory Coast was fired because people were unhappy with the main stadium’s bad quality.
The country has six places where matches will take place in January.
Mr Mambé was in charge of planning and managing the Francophone Games in 2017.
High blood pressure (hypertension) is a serious health condition that can lead to various cardiovascular problems. While it’s essential to follow a balanced diet and consult with a healthcare professional for appropriate management, certain drinks may help manage high blood pressure when consumed as part of a healthy lifestyle. Here are five drinks that may be beneficial:
Water: Staying well-hydrated is essential for overall health. Proper hydration helps maintain blood volume and reduce the strain on your cardiovascular system.
Hibiscus Tea: Hibiscus tea has been studied for its potential to lower blood pressure. It contains compounds that may help relax blood vessels and reduce blood pressure. Enjoy it as a caffeine-free alternative to traditional tea.
Beet Juice: Beets are rich in nitrates, which can help dilate blood vessels and improve blood flow. Drinking beet juice may lead to a modest reduction in blood pressure.
Green Tea: Green tea is packed with antioxidants called catechins, which may have a mild blood pressure-lowering effect. It’s also a healthier alternative to sugary beverages.
Celery Juice: Some studies suggest that celery juice may help lower blood pressure due to its natural diuretic properties. It may help flush excess sodium and reduce blood pressure.
It’s important to note that while these drinks can be part of a heart-healthy diet, they should not replace prescribed medications or lifestyle modifications recommended by your healthcare provider.
Managing high blood pressure typically requires a comprehensive approach that includes dietary changes, regular exercise, stress reduction, and, if necessary, medication. Always consult with your healthcare professional for personalized guidance on managing your blood pressure.
He emphasized that TVET should not be undervalued and that acquiring skills through TVET is crucial for bridging the skills gap in the labor market.
Furthermore, Osabarima Ansah Sasraku acknowledged that TVET has the potential to create a wide range of job opportunities, which, in turn, could drive Ghana’s industrial and economic development. This recognition underscores the importance of vocational and technical education in enhancing employment prospects and fostering economic growth.
“Don’t look down on TVET; it’s a game changer.” Osabarima Sasraku during the commemoration of Akwasidae, where the Ghana Library Authority and Adwensa publications donated assorted education materials to the Memfe Traditional Council.
The donation included over 1,000 copies of various textbooks for both primary and junior high schools, as well as 1,000 branded exercise books, sharpeners, erasers, and other educational materials.
The Chief emphasized the importance of parents taking a keen interest in their children’s education, particularly in the area of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). He also expressed gratitude for the educational materials, recognizing that they would enhance education standards in the region.
The Principal of the Presbyterian College of Education,Rev. Dr. Nicholas Apreh, who presented the items on behalf of the Ghana Library Authority, encouraged parents to foster a reading culture among their children as a crucial part of their education. This support and encouragement from community leaders and educators can have a positive impact on the education and development of the region.
A woman appeared in court for allegedly giving a three-year-old British girl to someone who would perform female genital mutilation (FGM) on her in Kenya.
Amina Noor, who is 39 years old, has been accused of helping someone from outside of the UK to harm a girl’s genitalia in 2006.
The supposed crime became known when the person who reported it, who is now 21 years old, told her English teacher at school when she was 16.
Ms Noor, who lives in Harrow, which is in the north-west part of London, says she did not do what she is being accused of.
At the beginning of the trial, prosecutor Deanna Heer KC informed the court that when they questioned Ms. Noor about what had happened, she explained that the procedure included giving an injection and the girl was happy and able to freely move and play afterwards.
But in 2019, when the person who made the complaint was checked, it was found that her clitoris had been completely taken away, according to Ms.
During the court session, it was explained that Ms Noor initially told the story of going to a “clinic” with another woman. In that clinic, a girl was taken to a room for a certain procedure.
The person on trial said that she was asked to come inside, but she didn’t because she felt frightened and anxious.
The jurors were informed that Ms. Noor said the girl was silent, cried all night, and said she was in pain.
‘Supported and helped’
During a later interview with the police, Ms Noor said that nobody had threatened her before the FGM was done to her.
When the defendant was asked if she ever didn’t want the FGM to happen, she said that she had thought about it but ultimately went ahead with it.
Ms Noor said that the things done to the girl were called “Sunnah” in Arabic, which means “tradition” or “way”. She also said that this practice had been happening for a long time because of cultural reasons.
The person in charge of proving the crime in court said that Ms. Noor supported and helped in the offense. They also questioned her statement that she only thought the girl would be slightly hurt to get some blood.
Ms Heer said in court that the defendant talked about the exact type of female genital mutilation before taking the girl to the clinic.
She did not ask if the people were doctors or if they were qualified to do their job.
She didn’t ask the Kenyan lady what would happen during the procedure. After the event, she didn’t look at the girl’s wound and said she didn’t seem to be hurting.
Ms Heer then said, “Considering the harm that was done to the girl, can we really believe that. Or is the defendant trying to downplay her own involvement. ”
Ms Heer told the court that there was no argument about the fact that the girl had undergone FGM (female genital mutilation) outside of the UK by a woman from Kenya, and it was also not disputed that the girl was a citizen of the UK.
The jurors learned that Ms Noor was born in Somalia and went to Kenya when she was eight because of the war in her country. She then came to the UK when she was 16 and became a British citizen.

Zimbabwe’s ruling party, Zanu-PF, has rejected a letter written by someone named Tafadzwa Manyika. Manyika, who says he is the party’s temporary secretary-general, asked for 70 legislators to be removed from parliament because they are no longer party members. Farai Marapira, who runs the information department for Zanu-PF, said to the BBC that Mr. Manyika is not recognized as a member of the party.
The person said that we have a set of rules called a constitution, our organization is organized and well-known (unlike the CCC), we have someone elected as a leader, and we don’t have temporary officials. The letter is similar to one sent before, which led to 15 members of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change party being kicked out of parliament last week and their seats being declared empty.
Sengezo Tshabangu, who said he was the temporary leader of CCC, wrote a letter stating that the 15 lawmakers were no longer part of CCC.
The CCC thought he was pretending to be someone else, working for the ruling party. They believed he was trying to make the number of opposition MPs smaller, so that Zanu-PF could have more control in parliament. Even though the leader of the CCC, Nelson Chamisa, had sent a letter saying that the MPs being recalled were still part of the party, the parliamentary speaker, Jacob Mudenda, who is a senior Zanu-PF member, still went ahead with the recalls.
In Zimbabwe, if a Member of Parliament stops being a part of the political party they were elected with, they can be removed from their position.
However, it doesn’t mention who is allowed to do it. The recalls lead to new elections being held.
Israel’s military says it has evidence that a group of religious extremists caused a terrible explosion at a hospital in Gaza. It is believed that this explosion resulted in the deaths of approximately 500 individuals.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health said that the killing at the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital was very bad and unlike anything they had seen before. A lot of women and children were among those who were killed.
This has caused more angry feelings in an area that was already in a bad situation because of Hamas’s violent attack on October 7. This attack led to protests against Israel’s bombing campaign in response.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) are rejecting the claim that they are responsible for the incident. They instead believe that Hamas is trying to hide the truth by making a big media campaign and exaggerating the number of victims.
When President Joe Biden came to the country, he said it doesn’t seem like Israel caused the explosion.
‘From what I’ve seen, it seems like the other team did it, not you,’ he said when he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari informed journalists that the military has confirmed that the explosion was caused by a rocket that malfunctioned and was fired by the Islamic Jihad group.
He said that Hamas shot many rockets towards Israel at 6. 15pm, and then Islamic Jihad shot another 10 rockets at 6. 59pm – which was when the first reports of an explosion at the hospital came in.
According to Hagari, the main parts of the hospital building are still in one piece. The projectile landed in a parking area, causing a big explosion because there was fuel left inside.
He said that the hospital was not hit by any gunfire from the IDF on land, sea, or air. He also mentioned to the reporters that the rocket was probably shot from a cemetery close by.
The person speaking also said that the militants mentioned an unsuccessful Islamic Jihad in their messages that were intercepted. He also said that this is now being used as a way to spread negative ideas about Israel.
Hagari said that it is not possible to know what happened as fast as Hamas claimed they knew. That should have been the first sign of warning for many.
Unlike Hamas, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) quickly started an investigation that was monitored by their top leaders.
This expert review was done using information, systems, and videos from the air. We made sure to double-check everything.
We have proof that the explosion in al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza was caused by a rocket from Islamic Jihad that went off in the wrong way.
The IDF is explaining why Israel is not to blame for the attack on a hospital in Gaza.
One of Benjamin Netanyahu’s top advisers said the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group launched a failed rocket, causing the disaster.
Speaking to Sky News, Mark Regev stated that the statistics are clear. In previous fights, about 33% of the rockets from Islamic Jihad that were aimed at Israel didn’t reach their target and instead landed in Gaza.
Our sources tell us that there was a fire caused by Islamic Jihad near the hospital. It seems that a rocket went wrong and accidentally hit the hospital.
In the recent fighting in 2021, there was a situation where Israel was accused of hitting a target and killing an innocent family.
‘Finally, we were able to show with a video that it was their rocket that was launched and we witnessed the rocket land. ”
Eylon Levy, a spokesperson for the government, told the TV station that they strongly disagree with the numbers presented by Gaza’s health ministry.
He said the country was very doubtful because Hamas quickly announced extremely high numbers after the explosion. He also said that they strongly disagree with those numbers.
Israel is saying that a rocket fired from Gaza hit a hospital in Gaza. The terror group said that Israel’s accusations were not true.
It means: ‘The claims made by the enemy are not true and have no evidence. ‘
They said Israel told the hospital to leave and a bomb from an Israeli plane caused the explosion.
People came out to march in Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, and the West Bank because Khaled Meshaal, who used to be in charge of Hamas, asked them to protest outside embassies everywhere. Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group urged for a day full of strong anger against Israel and President Biden’s visit.
The president visited to try to make the area peaceful and support efforts to help the people in Gaza.
But after the hospital workers stopped working, Jordan decided to not have a meeting with him, the President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, and the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Breast cancer is not limited to women: While it is less common, men can also develop breast cancer. Men should be aware of potential symptoms and risk factors.
Family history isn’t the only risk factor: While having a family history of breast cancer does increase your risk, most people diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. Other factors like age, hormonal factors, lifestyle choices, and genetic mutations can also play a role.
There are different types of breast cancer: The most common types are invasive ductal carcinoma and invasive lobular carcinoma, but there are several subtypes of breast cancer, each with distinct characteristics and treatments.
Early detection is critical: Early detection through regular breast self-exams, clinical breast exams, and mammograms can significantly improve the chances of successful treatment. Self-exams can help individuals become familiar with their breasts and identify changes.
Triple-negative breast cancer is aggressive: Triple-negative breast cancer is a subtype that lacks estrogen, progesterone, and HER2 receptors. It tends to be more aggressive and harder to treat.
Hormone replacement therapy can increase risk: Women who use hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for menopausal symptoms may have an increased risk of breast cancer. It’s essential to discuss the risks and benefits of HRT with a healthcare provider.
Genetic mutations: Inherited genetic mutations, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2, significantly increase the risk of breast cancer. Genetic testing can identify individuals at risk, and preventive measures can be taken.
Environmental factors: While the exact causes of breast cancer are not fully understood, some environmental factors, like exposure to certain chemicals, radiation, and lifestyle choices (smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity), may contribute to an increased risk.
Breast cancer affects young women: Although the risk increases with age, breast cancer can occur in younger women. It’s crucial for women of all ages to be aware of their breast health.
Survivorship issues: Surviving breast cancer often comes with long-term physical, emotional, and psychological challenges, which may include treatment side effects, anxiety, and depression. Support and resources are available to help survivors cope with these issues.
Advances in treatment: Research and medical advancements continue to improve breast cancer treatment options, including targeted therapies and immunotherapies, which can increase treatment efficacy while minimizing side effects.
It’s essential to stay informed about breast cancer and take steps to reduce your risk, such as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, getting regular check-ups, and following any recommendations from your healthcare provider. If you have concerns about breast cancer, seek guidance from a healthcare professional.
The President of the University of Ghana (UG) chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Professor Gyampo, has emphasized the importance of evidence-based research in informing policy formulation and implementation for the achievement of national development.
He noted that many policy statements made by political leaders in the country often lack a foundation in evidence-based research, leading to the ineffective implementation of these policies.
Professor Gyampo conveyed this message during the opening of the third edition of the Research and Development Conference of the SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in Wa.
The conference, themed “Bridging the Gap between Applied Research, Policy Formulation, and Implementation,” attracted around 90 participants from various universities across the country.
His comments underscore the importance of research in guiding policymaking and the need for collaboration between academia and policymakers to ensure that policies are based on empirical evidence and, as a result, more likely to be successful in achieving national development goals.
The annual research sought to, among other things, drum home the need for the government and policymakers to make applied research findings an integral part of development and policy decisions to achieve the needed national development.
“Politicians go on party rallies, they see the euphoria of their supporters, how people are chanting and all that and that alone is enough to influence them to make serious policy statements without having undertaken research to know about the feasibility of those policy statements.
But we are of the view that there can be no meaningful discussions of effective policy formulation and implementation without discussing the role of research in shaping such policies,” Prof Gyampo, who delivered the keynote address, explained.
He, thus, stressed the need for efforts to bridge the gap between applied research and policy formulation and implementation for the country to make any headway in its development drive.
According to Professor Issaka Kanton Osumanu, the Dean of Social Science and Arts at SDD-UBIDS, the university is putting itself in a position where stakeholders will benefit most from its research outputs, which will advance national development.
He said that in order to do that, the university had implemented a number of initiatives, such as the creation of the annual Research and Development Conference and the faculty and directorates dedicated to research, which serve as the institution’s main hubs for research and development.
At the conference, Prof. Osumanu spoke on behalf of Prof. Emmanuel Derbile, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the SDD-UBIDS, and said that the initiatives were a part of the university’s efforts to fulfil its mission and realise its vision of becoming a research-intensive university.
He said that the creation of a School of Graduate Studies and Research, a Faculty of Public Policy and Governance, a Directorate of Research and Innovation, and a Directorate of Community Outreach and Business Incubation were additional steps towards realising their vision.
Professor Frederick Dayour, the SDD-UBIDS’s Director of Research, Innovation, and Consultancy, reaffirmed that research was a cornerstone and a catalyst for national development and improvement of citizen quality of life.
He said notwithstanding that, “it’s true impact is often lost if it remains confined to the pages of academic journals and research reports.”
“It is when research findings are translated into well-informed policies and effectively implemented that they can truly transform the lives of the citizenry,” Prof Dayour added.
The Director of Research indicated that the three-day conference attracted 104 papers from researchers out of which 84 had been approved for presentation at the conference after a thorough review.
“It is evident that this conference is making notable strides, and with more efforts and innovation, has the potential to draw even more participants from various institutions within Ghana and beyond,” Prof Dayour intimated.
Drinking warm water first thing in the morning can offer several health benefits. Here are six amazing benefits of this practice:
Aids Digestion: Warm water can help stimulate digestion and prepare your stomach for the day. It can help break down food more efficiently and promote healthy bowel movements.
Flushes Toxins: Warm water can help flush out toxins from your body by promoting sweating and urination. It helps cleanse the digestive system and removes waste products.
Relieves Constipation: Drinking warm water can alleviate constipation by softening and loosening the stools. This can help with regular and pain-free bowel movements.
Improves Metabolism: Warm water can boost your metabolic rate, aiding in weight loss. It helps the digestive organs function optimally and can be an excellent addition to your weight management routine.
Enhances Blood Circulation: Warm water can improve blood circulation and promote better cardiovascular health. It may also help relax the muscles and alleviate muscle cramps.
Reduces Congestion: Warm water can help ease congestion by breaking down mucus in your throat and respiratory system. It can provide relief from common cold symptoms.
Remember that while warm water in the morning can offer these benefits, it’s essential to maintain a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle for overall well-being. Additionally, individual preferences and tolerances may vary, so it’s important to listen to your body and adjust your habits accordingly.
Ghanaian actress Victoria Lebene has offered additional details regarding the persistent rumors surrounding her purported relationship with veteran actor Kofi Adjorlolo. In a recent conversation with media personality Abeiku Santana on UTV’s Atuu, she provided insight into the origins and development of these rumors.
Lebene clarified that these rumors initially surfaced with a news headline that mentioned her in connection with Kofi Adjorlolo. While she suspects that the story might have been initiated by the popular blogger Ameyaw Debrah, she remains uncertain about the exact source.
“I think there was a news headline about me and Kofi Adjolorlor. Perhaps that is what instigated everything. I don’t know who brought it up, but I think it was Ameyaw Debrah who wrote a story about something between Kofi Adjolorlor and I,” she said.
Setting the record straight, Lebene stated that her only communication with Kofi Adjorlolo was on the set when they worked together, and nothing more. She was therefore surprised by the media hysteria encircling these rumours.
“It didn’t disturb me. There were a lot of talks like ‘how come a young girl like you is with Kofi Adjolorlor?’ and all that. He and I were just in communication. We used to meet a few times on set.
“So, I don’t know who instigated that per se. I don’t know if Kofi called Ameyaw, I don’t know how it happened, but it just blew up. I didn’t know how to even relate with it. I can’t say I enjoyed the media frenzy. I was just hearing my name everywhere that I was with Kofi Adjololo,” she explained.
She also added that the rumours were rekindled after Kofi Adjorlolo and her were discussed by controversial marriage counsellor Counsellor Lutterodt. Lebene had no personal relationship or involvement with him, so she found these statements confusing.
She expressed, “I think we were in the studio and Counsellor started that and I was like what is he saying? He didn’t understand me, and he started doing videos and bashing me”.
She also emphasized that she had minimal encounters with Kofi Adjorlolo, and any interaction between them was not public.
“Because I don’t have any business with him (Kofi Adjorlolo). Accidentally, we haven’t met so much. I think we did once, but it wasn’t so public” she stated.
A person from Britain who was on vacation in Peru has died and many other tourists and local people got hurt when a bus crashed and fell down a road in the mountains.
Tourists and five people from Peru were going to the Mountain of Seven Colours on Sunday afternoon.
The coach crashed while driving on Highway 1 near the farming community of Tintinco, Cusitapa, at around 3pm local time.
Pictures and videos from the place show the car in really bad condition, leaning to one side, with the glass at the front broken.
The boss of the tourism police in Cusco, Harnner Horna, said on TVPerú Noticias that a 32-year-old British person died in the accident.
He said, “This person is from the United Kingdom. They were taken to the Urcos morgue. ” We have already told the Consulate to do the necessary things. La República said that the man got stuck under the bus when it turned over multiple times.
We’re not sure if his closest family members have been told yet. The British embassy has been informed.
Another British tourist who was on the bus that crashed was also identified by the local police.
The local police identified 16 people from different countries (Poland, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Chile, and the Czech Republic) as the victims.
Five people from Peru, all from the city of Lima, were also hurt in the accident.
Horna said that some people got hurt and were taken to two nearby hospitals for treatment of broken bones and bruises. Five of them were allowed to leave the hospital on Monday.
The police are investigating and have arrested a bus driver named Manuel Navidad Casillas Cachira, who is 37 years old.
The police said the tourist company running the bus, called ‘Rainbow Mountain Trek Peru’, did not have permission to carry vacationers.
The Mountain of Seven Colours, also known as Vinicunca or the Rainbow Mountain, stands at a very high point of 16,000 feet above the sea level.
The tourist spot in the Cusco region, called Machu Picchu, looks almost unreal because the soil there is colored turquoise, lavender, and gold. It is a beautiful place located in the Andean mountain valley, where you can also find other old sites.
To reach the hill, vacationers need to take a two-hour drive from Cusco, followed by a three-and-a-half hour drive through Pitumarca. After that, they will need to walk 1. 5 miles
The Foreign Office has been reached out to for a response.
A group that monitors and investigates the police is looking into 12 police officers, who are currently or previously employed, to see how they dealt with past claims against a bad police officer named David Carrick.
The police officer who was a serial rapist was sent to prison for the rest of his life for misusing his position and taking terrible advantage of 12 vulnerable victims for a period of 20 years. This happened earlier this year.
Carrick, who is 48 years old, was called a terrible person by one victim, and another victim said she had experienced something very bad when he attacked her.
The court in Southwark heard that a police officer named ‘Bastard Dave’ committed many violent and brutal sexual assaults from 2003 to 2020.
The Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, said that the crimes committed by this person are a disgrace to our police force. She also emphasized the importance of finding out how he managed to be a police officer for such a long time.
Today, the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), announced that they are looking into the actions of 10 current and former police officers for very serious wrongdoing, and one other officer and staff member for less serious wrongdoing.
Five Metropolitan Police officers, including a detective constable, detective sergeant, detective inspector, and two chief inspectors, are being investigated for serious wrongdoing.
In July, the IOPC said it will investigate the MPS for not properly looking into accusations against Carrick in 2002, 2016, 2019, and 2021. They don’t often do this kind of investigation.
The investigations have been moving forward and this month, the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) informed five of its officers that they are being investigated for serious misconduct. These officers include a detective constable, detective sergeant, detective inspector, and two chief inspectors. A person who used to work for MPS, now works at the City of London Police force. Two other people, who used to be a police constable and a superintendent in MPS, are also being investigated for serious wrongdoing.
A worker in the MPS and a police constable have been told they are being looked into for bad behavior.
People have received notices because the IOPC found signs that they might have broken the rules of how police are supposed to behave.
Some people believe that they may not have done a good job of looking into accusations against David Carrick when he was a police officer.
This doesn’t always mean that there will be consequences for bad behavior.
As investigators gathered evidence, they looked at important papers and studied the laws, policies, and instructions that were in effect at that time.
IOPC regional director Mel Palmer mentioned that we are thinking of all the women who were harmed by David Carrick and came forward to report it.
After we looked into how the police handled complaints against Carrick earlier this year, we decided to investigate several instances where police officers and staff may have made mistakes when dealing with these complaints.
If these problems had been handled properly, Carrick might have faced serious punishment and been kicked out of the police force a long time ago, instead of being arrested later on.
We told some officers that they are being investigated, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they will be punished right away. After we finish looking into a situation, we will decide if anyone should be punished for their actions.
“We have found some things that individual forces can learn from, as well as national recommendations that we are currently working on. ”
The IOPC said that two officers have been given notices of investigation because they are looking into concerns that the Wiltshire Police did not properly investigate a report made against Carrick in 2016.
A police officer from Wiltshire and another officer, who is now a higher-ranking inspector, have received notices accusing them of serious wrongdoing.
This investigation started because Wiltshire Police told us about something in July 2023.
Member of Parliament (MP) representing Gomoa West, Mr. Richard Gyan Mensah, has chosen to dedicate two weeks of his parliamentary break to serve as a guest teacher at his former school, Apam Senior High School (SHS).
This commendable gesture was intended to give the MP an opportunity to understand and directly experience the challenges faced by teachers, school administrators, and students at the school. Additionally, it aimed to enrich the students’ education by providing them with practical insights and real-world examples, making their learning more meaningful and applicable.
During his time as a guest teacher, Mr. Mensah engaged with second-year Business students, covering important topics in Financial Accounting and Economics.
He addressed subjects such as the Correction of Errors and Suspense Account in Financial Accounting and Market Structures and the Revenue Concept in Economics. This initiative serves as a positive example of community engagement and support for education by an elected representative.
Sharing his experience with the GNA, the MP said he was impressed about the conduct and sacrifices of the staff of the school in shaping the future of the students and putting the school among the best in the country.
“The excitement, eagerness and display of real thirst for knowledge demonstrated by the students were truly inspiring, and I am confident that with such enthusiasm, they will achieve great heights in their academic pursuits and beyond,” he said.
Mr. Richard Gyan Mensah expressed his gratitude to the school’s management for granting him the opportunity to volunteer his knowledge and contribute to the development of the students. This acknowledgment reflects his appreciation for the chance to give back to his alma mater and support the educational growth of the students
“While I cherish the memories and look forward to more such opportunities, I must admit that though I have been a regular visitor to the school, my two weeks stay with the staff and students have been a huge eye opener.
“I have learnt at first, the challenges faced by the school, especially the staff and the students in the discharge of their duties and their learning processes respectively,” he stated.
The MP pledged his commitment to addressing the challenges identified within the school in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders.
A man in Belgium has been given a prison sentence of 11 years for leading a big group involved in smuggling people across the English Channel.
The police think that Hewa Rahimpur, who is 30 years old, was responsible for a group that brought 10,000 individuals to the UK using small boats.
Rahimpur was 23 years old when he came to Britain in 2016 and asked for protection, because he believed he would be mistreated in his country, Iran, as a Kurd.
He was given permission to remain in 2020.
Rahimpur came to the UK and was allowed to stay. He started a barbershop in London with a friend. However, he then used Britain as a hub for a large-scale criminal enterprise.
He was responsible for a group that obtained boats, engines, and life-jackets for people who wanted to cross the water as migrants. They got the material from Turkey and China and moved it to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The boats were taken to the northern coast of France and given to groups of people who wanted to move there and were waiting in Calais and Dunkirk.
The people who migrated, including women and children, were told basic instructions on how to operate the boats to reach Britain, and then started their journey across the Channel.
Some boats were extremely dangerous because they were not built properly and were held together with tape and pieces of wood.
A migration expert named Stef Janssens told the BBC that around 30 to 40 individuals were placed in each boat. Janssens mentioned that the smugglers demonstrate a complete disregard for the value of human life. It’s surprising that there are not more people dying.
It is believed that the gang from Rahimpur was responsible for nearly 10% of people illegally crossing to the UK within a period of 12 to 18 months.
Mr Janssens said that this is the first time a person in a powerful position in a network that uses small boats is being held accountable. He described the trial as a crucial step in combating global groups involved in smuggling people.
He said that this case is directly connected to the 31 people who died in the North Sea. Mr Janssens witnessed a conversation on WhatsApp between Rahimpur and individuals on his boat who were crossing the Channel. They requested him to contact the police as they were scared for their lives.
In a message, Rahimpur said they needed to continue until they reached the waters of Britain. There, the UK Coast Guard would come and bring them to the UK.
You can understand from this conversation that these people are working really hard because if they don’t, they will earn less money.
UK’s National Crime Agency and Belgian authorities worked together to investigate a situation where some boats were found in the trunk of a car near the border between Belgium and France in October 2021.
The police caught Rahimpur in Ilford, which is in East London, in May 2022. They took away 135 boats, 45 engines, and over 1,200 life jackets.
He was arrested as a result of a joint investigation by police in the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Over 40 people were taken into custody in four different countries in one of the largest law enforcement actions ever.
Rahimpur got a fine of €80,000, but experts think that his 11-year prison sentence is not likely to stop human traffickers from doing their illegal activities in the future.
People who bring people into a country illegally are getting better at what they do, making it harder for the authorities to catch them.
After Rahimpur was arrested, more people have still been coming to the UK on small boats. More than 24,200 people have travelled across the English Channel from France this year.
And many people want it.
People who move to another country give a lot of money to people who help them illegally cross the sea. A group called Rahimpur earned about €60m (£52m) in 2021 by organizing these illegal trips.
Even though there have been dangerous accidents, people are still willing to take risks and try to reach Europe on small boats. In June last year, it is believed that 500 individuals lost their lives when a boat overturned near the southern coast of Greece.
Craig Turner, who is the NCA Deputy Director, said that the criminal groups did not care about the people they were smuggling. However, he also mentioned that the agency will do everything possible to stop and break up these criminal groups bringing people to the UK.
