Following Tuesday’s by-election, Kwabena Boateng garnered 27,782 votes, constituting 55.79% of the total votes cast.

In his victory speech following the Ejisu by-election, Mr. Boateng reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity within the constituency. He also pledged to ensure that Ejisu receives its equitable share of development.

“Development comes from the government. It is the government that provides the resources for development and it is that same government presenting me; I came on the ticket of the government. Whatever development the state will share, my job is to make sure I lobby for the people of Ejisu,” he stated.

7 flooded substations in Accra caused partial ‘dumsor’ on May 1

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has provided clarification regarding the power outages witnessed in certain parts of the capital on May Day.

In a statement dated May 2, 2024, the ECG attributed the situation to rainstorms that struck the capital on May 1.

According to the statement, these rainstorms impacted seven of ECG’s substations, leading to power difficulties in various areas of Accra.

The affected substations were identified as Station H – Dzorwulu, Burma Camp L, Station D – Avenor, High Street AH, La Trade AJ, Lakeside Estate, and Gbawe.

“ECG and the Ghana Fire Service are collaborating to drain all flooded primary substations to facilitate a prompt restoration of power supply.

“We want to assure our valued customers and all stakeholders of our dedication to ensuring a reliable power supply and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the outage,” the statement signed by Director of Communications, William Boateng, stated.

This statement follows shortly after President Akufo-Addo declared in his May Day speech that the power supply challenges experienced in recent months had been resolved.

‘Dumsor’ is now in the past – Akufo-Addo says in May Day speech

President Akufo-Addo has reassured Ghanaians that the recent episodes of erratic power supply, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor’, will soon be a thing of the past.

The president elaborated that the recent power outages have been addressed following the completion of maintenance work on transformers by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

“Issues surrounding the maintenance of the transformers have been resolved. Indeed, we have witnessed stable power supply across the country with no load shedding reported anywhere yesterday…I am confident that the unfortunate era of dumsor will not return,” President Akufo-Addo said while delivering his speech at the Workers’ Day observation.

His comments on dumsor come amidst public appeals for the government to either rectify the power irregularities or provide an electricity supply schedule.

One notable advocate is Dr. Yaw Baah, the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), who urged the president to promptly tackle the intermittent power situation.

Dr. Baah expressed his concerns, stating that it is unfortunate and unjust for Ghanaians to endure dumsor under the previous administration and again under the current one.

“It is regrettable that people are facing dumsor once more; please take action on dumsor now,” Dr. Baah emphasized in his May Day message to the government.

I will vote for NPP even if it presents a stone as its candidate – Supporter

Various factors influence why voters support specific political parties or candidates during elections.

In the recently concluded Ejisu by-election, a voter expressed her unwavering support for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), regardless of the candidate presented by the party.

In a video circulating on social media, an unnamed woman emphasized her loyalty to the NPP, stating that she would vote for the party even if they presented an inanimate object instead of a human candidate.

“Even if you bring a stone as the NPP candidate, if it is NPP, I will vote for it. Lawyer go, lawyer come. If a stone is presented 100 times, I will vote for it,” she asserted to a journalist.

Her mention of ‘lawyer go, lawyer come’ refers to the victory of lawyer Kwabena Boateng, the NPP candidate, in the Ejisu by-election.

Boateng is slated to replace the late Member of Parliament for Ejisu, John Kumah, who was also a lawyer.

Following the April 30 vote, Boateng secured 55.8% of valid votes cast, while his closest rival, former Ejisu MP Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, garnered over 43%.

Boateng is expected to be sworn into office during the next session of Parliament.

“Even if you bring a stone as the NPP candidate, if it is NPP, I will vote for it. Lawyer go, lawyer come. If a stone is presented 100 times, I will vote for it,” she told a journalist.

Wait for clarity on Ejisu by-election ‘bribe’ case – EC tells Ghanaians

The Electoral Commission’s Director of Electoral Services, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, has announced that the Commission has initiated an investigation into allegations of bribery involving two officials during Tuesday’s by-election in Ejisu.

Following the emergence of a video showing Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, a prominent New Patriotic Party Member and MP for Kwadaso, allegedly handing over a white envelope suspected to contain cash to electoral officials, two officials of the electoral body have been withdrawn pending investigation.

Dr. Quaicoe emphasized that the outcome of the investigation will dictate the Electoral Commission’s subsequent actions.

Speaking to JoyNews’ Ohemeng Tawiah after the withdrawal of the two temporary officers from the Ejisu Constituency by-election, he stated that the contents of the envelope given to the officials are yet to be confirmed.

Dr. Quaicoe urged restraint in judgment until the investigation is completed, highlighting the uncertainty regarding who ultimately accepted the parcel.

“For now, we shouldn’t crucify them till we do the investigation and get to the root of it because clearly if you watched (the video), the parcel was being given to them and the people were not ready to take it.

“So it was dropped on the table, but when it was dropped, who took it? We don’t know”, he added.

“The Electoral Commission has taken immediate steps and has withdrawn the two (2) temporary staff while investigations take place.

“The commission upholds the principles and values of integrity, truth, and transparency. These values are reinforced during the training of all temporary staff.

In an official statement, the Electoral Commission reiterated its commitment to upholding integrity, truth, and transparency, affirming its decision to withdraw the two temporary staff pending investigations.

  • Reduce taxes, streamline regulations – Netherlands investors in Ghana to government

Reduce taxes, streamline regulations – Netherlands investors in Ghana to government

Members of the Ghana Netherlands Business Culture Council (GNBCC) have urged the government to streamline its regulatory compliance processes to improve efficiency.

Additionally, they called for a deeper integration of digitalization in public services to mitigate exposure to corrupt practices in the sector.

During a research-sponsored session by the GNBCC, findings from a study conducted by the IMANI Centre for Policy Education (CPE) were shared.

Titled “Reviewing current economic and investment challenges and opportunities for shared benefits and growth – a focus on the members of the Ghana Netherlands Business and Culture Council (GNBCC),” the report highlighted key recommendations.

According to the Senior Research Fellow at IMANI CPE, Dennis Asare, respondents recommended a review of the existing tax regime to minimize the incidence of duplicating taxes, which significantly raise the cost of doing business in Ghana.

“High regulatory and compliance cost is identified as one of the key cost components for the firms, and the synchronisation of regulatory and permit processes leads to firms paying extra costs through unofficial channels.

Thus, the government must deepen the existing e-government services to ensure that the services are delivered efficiently and reduce the cost of compliance. This will help to reduce the bureaucratic interference of public agencies in the activities of investors,” they recommended during research sponsored by the GNBCC.

“Given that the existing macroeconomic challenges have already increased the cost of doing business for firms, the government must review and align the tax frameworks to minimise the incidence of “duplicating taxes”

“The findings indicate that most of the businesses heard the investment opportunities through GNBCC, which also suggests that the GNBCC will be their first point of contact when they face challenges,” the Research Consultant said.

“The government can work collaboratively with the chambers of businesses to consistently provide regular information on government support in the form of tax reliefs, exemptions and financing opportunities to investors.”

This reduction in the tax burden was deemed crucial for enhancing the competitiveness of firms and attracting Foreign Direct Investments (FDI).

Furthermore, the government was advised to collaborate closely with business chambers to gain regular insights into the challenges faced by investors.

It was suggested that providing consistent information on government support, such as tax reliefs, exemptions, and financing opportunities, would address the limited access to information reported by investors.

As Ghana continues to attract significant FDI, particularly from the Netherlands, stakeholders emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges faced by businesses. Engaging with government agencies to advocate for these issues and ensuring they are reflected in political party manifestoes were highlighted as crucial steps.

The General Manager of GNBCC, Mr. Tjalling Yme Wiarda, stressed the need for government collaboration with the council to continue attracting investors from the Netherlands. He reiterated the commitment of the council to maintaining thriving businesses through effective government relations strategies.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic challenges, enhancing investor relations becomes increasingly vital for understanding and addressing the needs of foreign investors. This, in turn, can facilitate the acceleration of FDI flows and the creation of a supportive investment environment conducive to economic growth.

Case will be dismissed if you don’t show your face in court – High Court orders Anas in Nyantakyi case

Award-winning investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has purportedly been directed by the High Court in Accra to reveal his identity in open court during the ongoing criminal prosecution of former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi.

As per myjoyonline.com, the court instructed Anas to remove his iconic beads mask before providing testimony against Nyantakyi.

Reportedly, the presiding judge informed Anas that failure to testify without his mask could result in the dismissal of the case.

In May 2023, the High Court previously ruled that the esteemed journalist could testify while wearing his beads mask.

However, Nyantakyi will have the opportunity to view Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ face in private before his testimony.

The court deemed it essential for Mr Nyantakyi, the accused in the criminal trial stemming from the Number 12 documentary exposing corruption in Ghana football, to ascertain Anas’ identity.

This ruling came after Nyantakyi’s legal team requested to see Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s true face to prepare his defense.

Following the court’s decision, Anas expressed concerns that revealing his identity to Nyantakyi could pose significant risks.

NPP to secure victory in Ejisu by-election with a notable lead – Nana B

The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), has expressed utmost confidence in the party’s prospects for success in the upcoming by-election in Ejisu, foreseeing a substantial victory margin.

During an appearance on JoyNews’ PM Express, Mr. Boakye, commonly referred to as Nana B, dismissed a recent poll conducted by Info-Analytics, which suggests an NPP victory but by a narrow margin.

He criticized the organization and implied a lack of credibility in its work, stating, “Their polls look like somebody sitting in his living room and conjuring some figures and throwing them out there. We have a credible source and I am saying that we’re going to win with a clear margin.”

Responding to this criticism on the same program, the Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwah, defended the credibility of their polls.

Mr Dankwah emphasized their organization’s widespread recognition both nationally and internationally for the reliability and accuracy of their polling data.

“The whole country knows we are credible, the whole world knows that we are credible. Despite discrediting us publicly, our poll is what they read every night. It’s a statement they make a lot so I am not surprised.”

He further underscored the importance of voter turnout in shaping the election outcome, emphasizing that the victorious party would likely be the one capable of effectively mobilizing its supporters.

“This election is not going to be a walk in the park. And whoever will win, it will depend on turnout. The competitor who can convince his supporters to come out and vote will most likely have it.”

I am acting with integrity and legality as Minister of Health designate – Okoe-Boye

The Minister of Health designate, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, has refuted assertions of assuming his role unlawfully, citing pending approval from Parliament.

Speaking to reporters in Accra on Monday, Dr. Okoe-Boye clarified that he had received a directive from the Presidency to fulfill duties amidst the delay in confirmation.

This directive, he elucidated, came from the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, appointing him and other nominees as representatives of the President in certain ministries.

The rationale behind this, he conveyed, is to ensure continuity and prevent disruptions in critical sectors like healthcare.

However, the Minority in Parliament has voiced objections to this action, asserting that it is unlawful for any individual to assume the role of the President’s representative without proper authorization.

Consequently, they have urged the Chief of Staff to rescind these appointments.

“Because His Excellency the President doesn’t want the country to stall, [in a bid to prevent some] key sectors like health from suffering from lack of direction, some of us, let me be specific to myself, have received letters from the Chief of Staff making us representatives. I am the representative of His Excellency the President at the Ministry of Health,” he explained.

NPP’s win in Ejisu by-election crucial for Bawumia victory in 2024 elections – Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has conveyed his confidence in the NPP candidate, Kwabena Boateng, securing victory in the Ejisu by-election.

In a recent social media post on Tuesday, April 30, Ahiagbah urged the people of Ejisu to overwhelmingly support Boateng at the polls.

He stressed that a triumph for the NPP in the by-election would not only honor the late Dr. John Kumah but also symbolize the success of Vice President Bawumia and the NPP in the upcoming December 7th elections.

“Good people of Ejisu will make a statement today by voting massively for Kwabena Boateng, #2 on the ballot. A victory for the NPP in this by-election will not only honor the memory of Dr John Kumah but also signal the triumph of Bawumia and the NPP on December 7th. Let’s join hands and work towards a landslide victory for the NPP… It’s possible.”

Currently, voting is ongoing across all 204 polling centers in Ejisu to elect a successor for the former MP and Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, who passed away on March 7, 2024.

Six candidates, including three independent candidates, are competing in the by-election, with an expected participation of 106,812 voters.

Notably, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency, is running as an Independent Candidate in the by-election.

Despite facing allegations of betrayal, Aduomi remains optimistic about his chances of winning the election and representing Ejisu once again.

Hungry ‘voters’ boycott Ejisu by-election for not receiving money from aspirants

Certain constituents in Ejisu, Ashanti Region have been spotted in a video playing cards instead of participating in the ongoing by-election.

Explaining their decision to boycott the election to Kofi TV, they stated that nothing will convince them to go and vote unless they are given money.

According to them, they can’t go and vote on an empty stomach, therefore, they will rally behind whichever candidate that will give them 200 or 500 Ghana cedis.

The Electoral Commission (EC)  officially approved six candidates to participate in the ongoing Ejisu by-election.

This by-election, aims to elect a new parliamentary representative for the Ejisu Constituency following the demise of the incumbent, John Kumah, who also served as the deputy finance minister.

Kwabena Boateng, representing the NPP, has secured the second position on the ballot and emerges as one of the leading candidates.

Former MP Ing. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, standing as an independent candidate, occupies the fourth spot, with Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) listed third.

Esther Osei represents the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and holds the first position on the ballot. Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Joseph Attakora, both running as independent candidates, occupy the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.

It’s noteworthy that the largest opposition party, the NDC, has opted not to nominate a candidate for the by-election.

Anticipations suggest that Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former three-term NPP member of Parliament running as an independent candidate, could pose a significant challenge to his former party.

Additionally, there are murmurs of discontent among some constituents, who express grievances over neglected promises and unmet needs, with sentiments of hunger and dissatisfaction looming over the electoral process.

  • You are just Akufo-Addo’s nominees, you have no authority to give instructions – Minority to Ministers-designate

You are just Akufo-Addo’s nominees, you have no authority to give instructions – Minority to Ministers-designate

The Minority in Parliament has urged Ministers-designate to refrain from assuming roles as representatives of the president and called on the Chief of Staff to revoke any unauthorized appointments designating them as such.

This call follows allegations that the Chief of Staff created temporary appointments for Ministers-designate awaiting parliamentary approval, labeling them as ‘Representatives of the President.’

Minister of Health designate, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, faced scrutiny when he conducted inspections at health facilities, purportedly as the President’s representative. However, he denied operating unlawfully within the Health Ministry amidst delays in his parliamentary approval.

In a statement issued by the Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and MP for Juaboso, the Minority stressed that Minister-designates, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, as nominees of the President, lack the authority to instruct or implement policy changes within ministry agencies.

“The Minister-designate who is only a nominee of the President has no authority whatsoever to instruct or direct, implement or propose policy changes for agencies within a sector ministry and therefore under what power or authority does he/she summon CEOs and other heads of institutions, who may be busy with their official schedules, to grant him audience or presentations on their management of state institutions?

“The Minority in Parliament would therefore like to advise the Chief of Staff to revoke all illegal appointments appointing Minister-designates as Representatives of the President. We further caution persons so appointed to stop holding themselves out as Representatives of the President to designated Ministries. We urge all members of the public, particularly public sector workers not to extend any privilege reserved for Ministers to such persons.”

“Therefore, for a highly regulated power centre such as the Presidency, it is ultra vires for the Chief of Staff who derives all her powers from the President as prescribed by the 1992 constitution to be creating new offices alien to the constitution.”

The Minority highlighted that the 1992 constitution does not support the creation of representatives of the President in Ministries of State, declaring such actions as ultra vires for the Chief of Staff.

Furthermore, the caucus emphasized that a Minister, appointed by the President with the prior approval of Parliament, holds the representative role, and Minister-designates should not assume such responsibilities until parliamentary approval is secured.

The Minority concluded by declaring it unlawful for any individual to present themselves as a Representative of the President to a Ministry exercising executive authority, advocating for adherence to constitutional processes and roles within government institutions.

Scheduled from May 4 to May 10, 2024, the campaign aims to curb the surge in cases, particularly in the Greater Accra Region, where infection rates are highest.

Underlining the virus’s rapid transmission, the GHS stressed the crucial role of adhering to safety protocols.

Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Director of Public Health at GHS, underscored the significance of widespread vaccination in containing the outbreak. During a press briefing, he urged all Ghanaians to participate in the campaign.

“We are getting a few cases reported in parts of Accra and a few other regions. And it brings to bear the fact that Ghanaians need to be vaccinated and so on the 4th to the 10th of May, we are going to do a nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign and we want to urge all Ghanaians to be part of the exercise.

“We plan to do about four or five before the end of the year. The thinking is that we need to get the necessary population immunity that will help us minimize the risk of getting infections in the country,” he stressed.

Manhyia Palace Museum to reopen on May 1

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, recently inspected the royal Ashanti treasures that were delivered to Manhyia Palace by the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

This significant event coincides with the reopening of the Manhyia Palace Museum in Kumasi on May 1, 2024, as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The museum will unveil its refurbished facilities and showcase historic Asante heirlooms to the public in its new homecoming exhibition.

Among the treasures to be displayed are items looted during the Sagrenti War, which have been returned on loan after being restored.

This unveiling ceremony marks a pivotal moment in the cultural heritage of the Asante Kingdom. It follows a landmark agreement with British institutions, which have sent 32 royal treasures plundered from the Asante Kingdom 150 years ago.

These artifacts, comprising 15 items from the British Museum and 17 from the Victoria and Albert Museum, will be on loan at the Manhyia Palace Museum for three years.

In February 2024, the Fowler Museum at the University of California, Los Angeles repatriated seven artifacts, further commemorating initiatives under the leadership of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

These items were looted by British military forces during the 19th century Anglo-Ashanti Wars and are now returning to their homeland for the first time in 150 years.

The collection includes notable pieces such as the sword of state known as Mpomponsuo and the gold badges of officials authorized to purify the king’s soul.

Also featured is a gold lute-harp presented by Asantehene Osei Bonsu to British diplomat Thomas Edward Bowdich during an 1817 trade treaty.

Director of the Manhyia Palace Museum, Ivor Agyeman-Duah, highlighted the significance of these agreements in renewing connections between the Asante Kingdom, Britain, and the United States.

He emphasized the spirit of progress and cooperation underlying these partnerships and expressed hopes for further dialogues and stronger relationships with all custodians of Asante treasures.

“These partnerships go beyond the Asante Kingdom,” he explained, referencing ongoing international movements to repatriate cultural artefacts to their rightful origins.

“50 years since Asantehene Otumfuo Opoku Ware II first requested the return of the items from the British Museum in 1974, Homecoming renews our connections to Britain and the United States, in the spirit of progress and cooperation.”

Agyeman-Duah continued: “Although the British Museum’s laws forbid the permanent removal of objects, thanks to the mutually beneficial cooperation between Otumfuo Opoku Ware II and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the British Museum and V&A, items removed 150 years ago are home from three museums. We now look forward to more dialogues and stronger relationships with all custodians of Asante treasures.”

The museum, originally opened during the Silver Jubilee of Otumfuo Opoku Ware II in 1995, has been expanded to offer visitors an immersive experience.

Through photographic and regalia displays, lifelike mannequins, and captivating narratives, visitors can explore the rich legacy of the Asante kingdom, including its complex history with the British Empire.

These facilities encompass various types, such as polyclinics, district centers, specialized units, and CHIP compounds, distinct from the ongoing Agenda 111 project aimed at constructing new hospitals nationwide.

During a recent visit to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Okoe-Boye emphasized the importance of showcasing completed projects to inspire future endeavors, noting the positive impact these facilities have had on local communities and their crucial role in improving access to quality healthcare services.

He expressed the government’s intention to involve the public in the process by allowing them to experience the completed facilities firsthand, fostering a sense of appreciation for the efforts being made.

“Sometimes it’s important to look at what has been done to give us hope for what to do. Apart from improving healthcare, the second one I said is to carry all of us along. Since this government took office, we have completed about 40 structures of health facilities, polyclinics, district centres, specialized units, CHIP compounds and all that.

“I’m not going to show pictures, as I said, we’ll carry everybody along so that you’ll walk through it and experience it. We are working on about 26 facilities, all facilities are outside agenda 111 and I believe strongly that we all will come and appreciate the effort being done,” he said.

Man recounts assault at Mosque for being bisexual

For safety reasons, a Ghanaian man, using the alias Ibrahim, has bravely recounted his traumatic experiences of enduring repeated assaults in his community due to his sexual orientation.

Identifying as Muslim, Ibrahim has faced multiple targeted attacks in his neighborhood over the years.

These assaults have escalated this year following the passage of anti-LGBTQ+ laws by Ghana’s parliament.

During the heightened discussions surrounding the bill, known as the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, Ibrahim was attacked, with another assault occurring shortly after the bill’s approval in February.

The first incident occurred on January 22nd near the Sen Cinema Mosque at Alajo North in Accra, around 5 pm.

Four months later, on April 12, 2024, during the 3music Sallafest Concert at Alajo T Junction, Accra, Ibrahim faced another violent attack.

In both instances, Ibrahim asserts that the assaults were motivated by his sexual orientation, a facet of his identity that had been largely undisclosed within his community until recently.

Living in constant fear of further attacks, Ibrahim has resorted to secluding himself indoors for safety.

He is forced to navigate his daily life under the shadow of fear, unable to freely engage with the world around him for fear of grave physical harm.

NPP’s future hangs in the balance with Ejisu by-election – Prof Kobby Mensah

Political Marketing Strategist, Professor Kobby Mensah, has analyzed the electoral atmosphere in Ejisu, suggesting it’s not favoring the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming by-election.

He highlighted independent candidates, particularly Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, as posing a significant challenge to the NPP’s prospects in the election.

Speaking on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3, Professor Kobby Mensah stated, “Losing would be a severe blow to the NPP.”

“If you look at Fomena for example, the president had been there and talked about the idea that they don’t want to have anything to do with the independent candidate and yet the independent candidate won against the party’s choice.”

He referenced the victory of an independent candidate in Fomena despite the president’s opposition, indicating the potential for a similar outcome in Ejisu.

Over 100,000 voters are casting their ballots today (April 30, 2024) to determine the successor of the late Dr. John Kumah as the representative of the Ejisu Constituency in Parliament.

Six candidates are vying for the seat, including former MP Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, now running as an independent candidate, and Kwabena Boateng from the NPP.

The Electoral Commission (EC) assured the public of a fair and transparent voting process in response to allegations of ballot stuffing.

The EC emphasized the impossibility of such actions given the transparent nature of the ballot boxes and pledged a thorough count in the presence of all stakeholders after polls close.

Benjamin Bannor-Bio, Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, urged candidates to deploy vigilant agents to monitor the process effectively.

EC officials further assured that there would be no delays across the 204 polling stations.

“The time the allegation was made, we had not even started printing the ballot. How then can someone stuff the ballot boxes. And how is that even going to be done? Because our ballot box is transparent, and we open it before we start voting.

“The candidate should also trust the system and provide agents who are very effective, know the processes and can defend their rights. It’s not just bringing anyone who is loud, but can’t differentiate between 69 and 96”, he advised the contesting candidates.

Korle Bu cancels Monday’s surgeries due to dumsor

Multiple crucial surgeries slated for Monday, April 29, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital had to be canceled due to intermittent power disruptions.

Patients scheduled for tumor surgeries were brought to the surgical theater but were eventually returned to the wards as doctors deemed the power situation unreliable.

An anonymous doctor expressed concern, stating,“These are critical cases, and we can’t afford to risk people’s lives,”

Furthermore, dysfunctional elevators left numerous patients stranded on different floors for extended periods, exacerbating the situation.

Sources revealed that even the hospital’s generator was non-operational, adding to the distress of medical staff.

“This is the second time my surgery was cancelled. The first was because the oxygen machine wasn’t working. Today, it’s due to power fluctuations. I’m really scared, but what can I do? I leave everything to God.”

Akufo-Addo’s recent attitude and utterances troubling – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has voiced his concerns regarding the recent actions of President Akufo-Addo.

In a post shared on X on Monday, April 29, 2024, Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed worry that President Akufo-Addo’s conduct as his tenure nears its end is becoming troubling.

Mahama particularly took issue with Akufo-Addo’s requirement for chiefs to stand before greeting him, deeming it inappropriate.

He further criticized the president’s recent comments about his successor, labeling them as undemocratic.

“The almost eight years of Nana Addo/Bawumia have done extensive damage to our democracy. As the clock ticks towards the end of his mandate, the president’s attitude and utterances give much cause for concern. His recent insistence that chiefs stand up to greet him should be a matter of serious consternation for political watchers.

“He also recently stated that he cannot be succeeded by somebody he has defeated in previous elections. This connotes an arrogant nature and smacks an inherently anti-democratic personality, undermining the fundamental principle of the peaceful transition of power,” Mahama wrote.

He added, “Nana Addo should be reminded that only the votes of the good people of Ghana and the will of the Almighty God will determine who succeeds him. This reaffirms the people’s power in shaping our nation’s future.”

President Akufo-Addo was recently captured in a viral video clip allegedly instructing traditional leaders to stand before greeting him at a funeral event.

The best legacy you can leave behind is a peaceful, transparent and credible 2024 election – Mahama to Akufo-Addo

Former President, John Dramani Mahama has issued a warning to President Akufo-Addo, cautioning against any interference in the outcome of the 2024 general elections.

Mahama, who leads the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as its flagbearer, expressed concerns over Akufo-Addo’s recent remarks and actions during the 2020 general elections, suggesting a potential inclination towards manipulating the upcoming December 7 presidential election.

In a post on X, Mahama revealed that he had personally engaged with the president, advising him to ensure that the 2024 general election maintains fairness and transparency for the sake of his legacy.

Referring to past events like the Ayawaso West Wuogon incident and alleged state-sponsored violence during the 2020 election, Mahama emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles and preventing any attempts to subvert the electoral process.

Mahama stressed that the determination of Ghana’s future leadership lies solely with the electorate and divine will, reaffirming the power of the people in shaping the nation’s destiny.

“Suppose we are to draw lessons from Ayawaso West Wuogon and the state-sponsored killing of eight innocent citizens during the 2020 election; we know that this president is capable of anything and would not hesitate to trample on Ghana’s Constitution to manipulate the process in favour of his preferred successor.

“I can assure him that Ghanaians and the National Democratic Congress will not allow this to happen. As I advised him in Damongo on Saturday, the best legacy he can leave this country is to superintend over a peaceful, transparent, and credible election,” the former president wrote.

He concluded by urging Akufo-Addo to prioritize overseeing a peaceful, transparent, and credible election as the most significant legacy he could leave for the country.

I almost took my life in 2019 – Fella Makafui

Actress and socialite, Fella Makafui has opened up about her struggle with suicidal thoughts triggered by false news and online harassment in 2019.

In a candid interview on Hitz FM dated April 29, Fella Makafui, a mother of one, revealed how she was on the brink of taking her own life due to the emotional toll of a fabricated news story circulating on social media.

Recalling the distressing incident from 2019, Fella Makafui recounted receiving a call from her manager, alerting her to the damaging rumors.

“In 2019, there was some false news that circulated. That was where I had it.

“I was having a meeting with my manager, and he just called me. He’s like, ‘Precious, I know you wouldn’t do this, but this is what is going on. Could you tell me if it’s true?’ I said, ‘Richie, there’s no way I’ll ever do something like that,”

“It broke me. I almost took my life,” she said.

The traumatic experience compelled her to withdraw from publicly addressing or defending herself against such baseless allegations.

Instead, she opted to prioritize her mental well-being and focus on meaningful real-life connections rather than engaging with negativity online.

“I don’t come publicly to explain myself, defend myself or clear the air about certain news again. It’s because, at a point in my life, I just had it due to the trolling and all of that.

“Right now, you can say what you want about me. It’s okay. You don’t know me. It’s just social media. This is real life.

“The few good people around me know who I am. So I don’t think I have to say so much or do so much to prove a point because I almost took my life,” she said.

Her harrowing revelation coincides with a growing awareness of mental health challenges faced by public figures in the entertainment industry.

Various personalities, including Kuami Eugene, Wendy Shay, Kidi, and Mzvee, have spoken out about the pressures of fame and the detrimental effects of social media scrutiny on their mental well-being.

Nigerian Prophet, Abel Boma, has the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be vigilant in order to avoid disappointment in the upcoming December polls.

In a viral video, prophet Boma stated that God has already installed Mahama as the president of Ghana, however, being reluctant will make his efforts go down the drain.

According to him, the team working with the flagbearer to secure victory in the election have personal ulterior motives which will eventually cost Mahama.

He added that Mahama’s team are individuals who are stabbing him at the back with the aim of making their pockets full.

“Let’s also pray for the upcoming election in Ghana. Mahama, you are sitting down resting while they are planning to overthrow you. Mahama you have to wake up from your sleep and rise, your team. Your team is eating your money and are not doing what is right and if time is not taken you might lose the election. Mahama your efforts are good, your push is good but your team is only interested in collecting the money for their pockets but not empowering the election that is coming in your nation.

This is not the first time Mahama has been cautioned by a man of God regarding the much awaited 2024 elections.

Recently, British-Zimbabwean, Prophet Uebert Angel, also indicated that, Mahama’s victory has been approved by God as he saw him approaching the presidency throne to take a seat.

However, God has given Mahama three assignments to accomplish in order to become victorious in the upcoming December polls.

According to him, the assignments must be done within the next 90 days and the paramount of them all is placing a specific phone call.

“These things if you do, you will be the one to sit on the same seat. And he is supposed to do them within the next three months. If he has done it I will come back and tell you straight, if has not done it I will be here to tell you that time. If he doesn’t do it I will tell you in the next 90 days that Mahama will not  be president there. But I saw Mahama approaching the throne as if he wants to sit on the throne and the Lord said it’s open. Just do three things. One of them is a phone call, even if he ignores the two. That phone call is important,” he added.

“There is a thing I was shown about Ghana. God said I am about to shift Ghana. Not that it was evil but there were mistakes that were made when I got a plan to execute what should happen in Ghana. I chose a leader that was going to better the season for the people of God. That man was my choice but in the execution of it there were mistakes that were done, and there was lack of support for the leader in fixing what I needed fixed. So I saw a man approaching the throne, as he was about to approach the throne, God said wait. There are three things I want you to do,” he stated.

During a press briefing, ACEP’s Policy Lead for Petroleum and Conventional Energy, Kodzo Yaotse, condemned ECG’s perceived incompetence, attributing it to the company’s monopoly in the power distribution sector.

He further criticized ECG for demonstrating regulatory reluctance, suggesting political interference from the Energy Minister, who may be hesitant to acknowledge the severity of the situation.

Mr Yaotse expressed concern that without separating the political management of ECG from its technical operations, the issuance of a load-shedding timetable may continue to be delayed.

“They [ECG] are just lucky that they have a monopoly over the service that they provide for us. If there was competition in the distribution of power in this country, I am sure ECG would have lost all of its customers by now to a more efficient and competent power supplier.

“To the extent that ECG is exhibiting some regulatory recalcitrance and also with the blessing of the Energy Minister, who is a politician by the way and would never want to admit that we are in this fix, we may not see a timetable until we are able to isolate the political management of ECG from the technical management of ECG.”

I can assure NPP is winning Ejisu by-election – Justin Frimpong Kodua

The Secretary-General of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has voiced confidence in the ruling party’s prospects for victory in the upcoming Ejisu by-election scheduled for April 30, 2024.

In his statement, he emphasized that no election can be considered “easy,” as all candidates involved diligently prepare to secure victory.

Despite a survey by Global Info Analytics indicating a competitive by-election, Kodua expressed certainty in the NPP’s candidate, Kwabena Boateng, winning in the Ejisu constituency.

During an interview with Oyerepa TV, Kwesi Parker-Wilson questioned the significance of the statistics from Global Info Analytics, portraying the by-election as a tight race for the NPP.

Frimpong Kodua responded, ““If you look at the statistics coming from the Global Info Analytics, it depicts that this is a tight race for the NPP in this election [the Ejisu by-election]. Do you agree?”

“There is no small election in Ghana, every election is a tough one. At the end of the day, if you put strategies in place, you will win. I can assure you that on Tuesday, [April 30, 2024] the NPP is winning.”

Key Points About the Upcoming Ejisu By-election:

The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed the clearance of six candidates to contest the Ejisu by-election on April 30, 2024.

This by-election, overseen by the EC, aims to elect a parliamentary representative for the Ejisu Constituency following the passing of the incumbent, John Kumah, who also served as the deputy finance minister, on March 7, 2024.

Leading the contenders is Kwabena Boateng, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, positioned at number two on the ballot. Former MP Ing. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, an independent candidate, occupies the fourth spot, while Beatrice Boakye, representing the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), is listed third.

Esther Osei, endorsed by the Convention People’s Party (CPP), is positioned at number one on the ballot. Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Joseph Attakora, both independent candidates, hold the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.

Notably, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) opted not to field a candidate for the by-election.

Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former three-time NPP MP who is contesting as an independent candidate, is anticipated to present a strong challenge to his former party.

Your “sharing the meat of Ghana” remark is shameful – Koku Anyidoho to Aseidu Nketia

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has issued a response to recent comments made by the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Mr. Nketia, commonly known as General Mosquito, advised party members to prioritize winning the 2024 elections over discussions about future government positions.

He likened such premature discussions to dividing meat before the hunt concludes.

Asiedu Nketia made these remarks during the official introduction of the party’s running mate for the 2024 elections, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, to party members at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

However, Mr. Anyidoho, a vocal critic of General Mosquito, took to the social media platform X to criticize him.

“Growing up in Burma-Camp in the Heart & Heat of June 4, 1979 Uprising & December 31, 1981 Revolution – birthing PNDC/NDC, it’s a BIG embarrassment to me that after all we went through as a nation, my NDC can be shamelessly talking about “sharing the meat” of Ghana. Disgraceful,” he wrote.

He accused the NDC Chairman of hypocrisy, suggesting that his focus is solely on securing positions for himself and his allies.

Furthermore, another post by Anyidoho questioned the sincerity of the Chairman’s dedication to the party’s objectives, highlighting his emphasis on position-sharing rather than prioritizing Ghana’s welfare.

  • Are farmers receiving the $46m you borrowed from IFAD to support them? – Bright Simons quizzes Agric Ministry

Are farmers receiving the $46m you borrowed from IFAD to support them? – Bright Simons quizzes Agric Ministry

Vice-president, in charge of research at IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Bright Simons, has raised concerns regarding the disbursement of funds borrowed by the Ministry of Agriculture from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) aimed at supporting farmers across the country.

Taking to the X platform, Mr Simons urged the Agriculture Ministry to provide clarity on whether the intended beneficiaries, the farmers, are indeed receiving the financial assistance allocated through the $46 million IFAD loan.

“Ghana has been borrowing millions of dollars from a UN agency called IFAD to help farmers. But is the money reaching farmers? The current & former Agric Ministers &…Fidelity Bank should kindly tell Ghanaians. #MercyForThePoor,” he wrote.

The inquiry stems from a recent report that suggests that in April 2014, the government secured a $46 million loan from IFAD.

IFAD, a UN agency specializing in addressing agricultural challenges, channels its loans to support projects aimed at agro-processing, food security, enhanced smallholder farmer productivity, and similar objectives.

Specifically in Ghana, this funding was allocated for the Ghana Agricultural Sector Investment Program (GASIP), a project valued at approximately $78 million and officially launched in May 2015.

GASIP’s primary objective was to boost the productivity, output, and income of smallholder farmers by injecting funds into cooperatives through intermediaries known as “value chain cluster drivers (VCDs).”

These VCDs, acting as intermediaries, were tasked with accessing funds from GASIP, procuring bulk inputs such as seeds and fertilizer, ensuring their distribution to cooperative farmers, overseeing planting and harvesting activities, aggregating farm outputs, and collaborating with traders to secure favorable selling prices.

GASIP also sought the involvement of corporate bulk buyers such as Nestle, the Ghana Commodities Exchange, providers of tractor and mechanized services, and various other stakeholders within Ghana’s agricultural value chain.

By 2020, GASIP claimed to have facilitated the cultivation of nearly 100,000 acres of land and positively impacted the lives of 50,000 farmers.

In a moment of enthusiasm, the Minister of Agriculture appealed to IFAD for further support, requesting an additional $105 million to demonstrate greater confidence in Ghana’s agricultural initiatives.

Who secured 10 BVDs and how was the auction publicized? – Imani to EC

IMANI Africa has expressed reservations regarding the Electoral Commission (EC)’s management of 10 outdated Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) reportedly uncovered at a recycling facility.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 26, 2024, the EC clarified that the 10 BVDs discovered at a recycling plant in Madina were antiquated devices that had been lawfully auctioned.

In response to the EC’s clarification, IMANI Africa raised concerns about the procedural aspects of the auction, seeking clarification on various fronts.

The organization specifically questioned the identity and licensing status of the auctioneers involved, as well as the methodology employed during the auction.

Moreover, IMANI Africa requested information regarding the identities of the successful bidders and the reasoning behind their acquisition of outdated devices intended for electoral use.

Furthermore, the organization expressed doubt about a commercial recycling plant’s involvement in handling such devices, given the potential sensitivity of the data they may contain.

IMANI Africa urged the Electoral Commission to furnish transparent and comprehensive information regarding the auction and disposal process of these BVDs, emphasizing the paramount importance of maintaining public confidence in the electoral system.

35-year-old serial killer exposes food vendor who contracted him to kill victims for GHC500 each

A self-confessed killer has revealed how he carried out the murder of three individuals at the behest of a chop bar operator.

A video circulating on social media, purportedly showing Richard Tetteh, being interrogated, depicts him seated in an office, handcuffed, clad in worn-out shorts and a T-shirt, fielding questions.

He admits, “Someone said she wanted body fluids of dead bodies for something, fluids from the mouth and vaginal area,” he is heard confessing. “She is a woman who operates a chop bar presently”.

“If she wants more, when I am passing by she draws my attention. She paid me 500 Ghana cedis for each operation”.

His purported crime scene is believed to be in the Odumase Krobo region, where several murder cases have occurred.

One such incident, in February 2024, involved the discovery of a woman’s body, believed to be in her 30s, near the Otorkporlu Bridge off the Odumase-Asesewa Highway.

Reports suggest the victim was found partially unclothed, with signs of severe violence, including the removal of her tongue and genitals.

Ghana close to securing official creditors waiver – Terpker

Former Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, has expressed optimism regarding Ghana’s potential to secure a waiver from official creditors, facilitating the approval of a third tranche of US$360 million for the nation.

Mr Terkper, who led Ghana’s 16th International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan-support program in 2015, acknowledged the challenges but remained hopeful, stating, “it may be difficult, though not impossible to secure another waiver because these are major waivers.”

He shared his insights during a virtual media briefing on April 26, highlighting the ongoing program’s dynamics.

While Ghana has reached an interim agreement with its official creditors, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for debt treatment remains pending.

However, Mr Terkper clarified that the MoU isn’t a prerequisite for the third tranche disbursement, although the Fund stresses the importance of a deal with official creditors.

Mr Terkper’s confidence stems from Ghana’s past success in securing waivers from key creditors like France and China, crucial for previous loan-support approvals.

He urged the government to take proactive steps to build sufficient buffers for debt repayment and mitigate further accumulation.

Highlighting the importance of fiscal prudence, Mr Terkper emphasized the need to allocate funds for debt repayment amidst revenue constraints, warning against a mirage of debt reduction without such measures.

He underscored the challenges ahead, pointing to revenue projections and expenditure dynamics under the program.

He attributed uncertainties to delays in the completion of the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) and the program’s modest goals in increasing the tax-to-GDP ratio.

Mr Terkper recommended Ghana to establish a credible debt repayment mechanism, such as a Sinking Fund, to address fiscal challenges effectively.

Additionally, he advised leveraging the Energy Sector Recovery Act (ESLA) to settle Independent Power Producers (IPP) debts while maintaining fiscal discipline to curb government expenditure.

I am the only one who can approve the construction of roads in Ghana – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has emphasized his authority in overseeing the equitable distribution of development initiatives throughout the nation.

Addressing New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Ejisu on April 28, 2024, particularly concerning road construction, the President asserted his final decision-making power in this regard.

During the rally held in preparation for the by-election following the passing of Ejisu’s Member of Parliament, John Kumah, President Akufo-Addo pointedly questioned the past achievements of former MP Kwabena Aduomi, who now seeks candidacy as an independent.

Asserting his administrative prerogatives, the President remarked, “I don’t say this to boast, but no road can be constructed in Ghana without my authorization.”

He reaffirmed the current government’s identity as an NPP administration under his leadership until January 7th.

“If you need someone to catch the attention of an NPP president, we need an NPP MP,” he told the gathering.

Highlighting the importance of maintaining the NPP’s marginal parliamentary majority, the President stressed the necessity for smooth governance in the remaining months.

The by-election for the Ejisu constituency is scheduled for April 30, 2024, following the vacancy left by the late Dr. John Kumah’s passing on March 7, 2024. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has opted out of contesting in this by-election to focus on national elections.

  • New counter-terrorism Act needed to address radicalized youth in Ghana – CISA

New counter-terrorism Act needed to address radicalized youth in Ghana – CISA

A non-governmental organization specializing in security and intelligence, The Centre for Intelligence and Security Analysis (CISA), has urged the government to implement new counter-terrorism legislation to enhance the country’s anti-terrorism efforts.

This legislation, termed the “Foreign Fighters Act (FFA)” by the Centre, would address the reintegration of radicalized youth and war returnees, as well as impose harsher penalties on individuals involved in terrorist activities.

CEO of CISA and former Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), Mr. Rasheed Inusah, emphasized the need for such legislation during a workshop for selected media practitioners in Accra.

He highlighted concerns about the absence of specific legislation like the FFA, especially given the reported rise in Ghanaian youth joining terrorist groups or participating in conflicts abroad.

Urging swift action from the Government, Mr. Inusah stressed the importance of enacting laws to facilitate the reintegration of these individuals and maintain national peace and security.

“The absence of Foreign Fighters Act is worrying as more Ghanaian youth run to war zones, terrorist cells; and return as radicalised lone wolves or form sleeper cells,” Mr Inusah said.

“In 2015, a 25-year-old Ghanaian graduate, Mohammed Nazir Nortei Alema, was recruited by ISIS but later died in Syria.”

He also underscored the growing threat of “home-grown sleeper cells and lone wolves” and emphasized the FFA’s role in empowering law enforcement agencies to prevent terrorist acts.

Additionally, Mr. Inusah called attention to economic challenges contributing to youth vulnerability to exploitation by terrorist groups, urging measures to address high unemployment rates.

He also reminded the media of their responsibility to safeguard the electoral process by avoiding sensationalism and dissemination of false information, while prioritizing safety and neutrality in reporting.

CISA, dedicated to addressing security challenges in the West African sub-region, employs various tools such as research and publications by analysts and security practitioners to achieve its objectives.

We never spent $150m to purchase BVRs and BVDs in 2020 – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a statement urging the public to disregard any claims suggesting that it spent $150 million on acquiring Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) and Biometric Voter Registration Kits (BVRs) in 2020.

The EC’s response follows allegations made by Bright Simons, Vice President of IMANI Africa, in several articles, alleging that the election management body spent $150 million on BVDs.

In the statement released on Friday, April 26, the EC clarified that prior to the circulation of the $150 million figure, the cost of the BVDs and BVRs procured by the commission in 2020 was quoted at $300 million.

“In fact, the total cost for 74,500 BVDs, 8,500 BVRs, a new data centre and a data recovery centre amounted to $68, 661,912.67.”

However, the EC clarified that the total cost for 74,500 BVDs, 8,500 BVRs, a new data center, and a data recovery center amounted to $68,661,912.67.

Furthermore, the EC explained that in June 2018, the previous administration of the commission budgeted and received approval to invest $56 million for the refurbishment of BVDs and BVRs, a Data Center, and security enhancements under the voter registration and voter verification projects.

The contract was aimed at the 2018 referendum and District Level Elections (DLE), including refurbishing 1,670 BVR kits and procuring 1,000 new BVDs for the Voter Registration project, and refurbishing 46,200 BVDs and acquiring 10,000 new BVDs for the Voter Verification Project.

However, the current administration of the Commission decided to cancel the contract for total refurbishment and procurement of new BVDs, opting for a minimal maintenance arrangement.

“The contract was specifically geared towards the conduct of the 2018 referendum and District Level Elections (DLE). The Voter Registration project included the refurbishment of 1,670 BVR kits and the procurement of 1,000 new BVDs while the Voter Verification Project included the refurbishment of 46,200 BVDs as well as the acquisition of 10,000 new BVDs.”

“However, the current administration of the Commission made a strategic decision to cancel the contract for the total refurbishment and the procurement of new BVDs, opting for a minimal maintenance arrangement,” it further stated.

In 2020, based on the experience with the equipment in the 2019 DLE, the current Commission applied for and received approval from the PPA to acquire new BVDs, BVRs, a Data Center, and a Data Recovery Center.

  • Prof Jane Naana’s appointment intimidates NPP – NDC SA Council Chair

Prof Jane Naana’s appointment intimidates NPP – NDC SA Council Chair

Chairman of the South African National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders, Benjamin Kofi Quashie, has voiced his opinion regarding the selection of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as former President Mahama’s running mate.

He has implied that it has caused unease within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Quashie highlighted Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s impeccable reputation and her suitability as a complement to former President John Dramani Mahama.

“Prof is a good person and would bring in a lot of development to the country as vice president who comes in with a lot of competence. This is the reason why she intimidates the NPP. When somebody intimidates them, they would run round and dig the person and raise all manner of accusations against the person,” he stated.

Speaking to Nana Otu Darko on Accra FM’s “The Citizen Show” on Saturday, 27th April 2024, he recounted her impressive trajectory, citing her role as the first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, her academic accolades, and her contributions at the Ministry of Education, which he believed made her a formidable choice for running mate.

He emphasized that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s competence would contribute significantly to the country’s development as vice president, which, he claimed, was why she unnerved the NPP.

“Never in the history of the 4th republic has anyone delivered a speech with such a fearless and passionate appeal to the conscience of Ghanaians” adding, this makes him feel proud that her daughter has someone to look up to and say, “it’s possible and can be done. Prof brings a lot to the people,” he added.

Mr Quashie asserted that since her nomination, the NPP had failed to identify any flaws in her character, resorting instead to baseless accusations.

Regarding her introduction to the Ghanaian electorate, Quashie praised her speech as unprecedented in the history of the Fourth Republic, portraying her as a fearless and passionate advocate for the nation’s conscience.

He expressed pride in the prospect of his daughter having a role model like Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, emphasizing her potential to inspire positive change.

Mr Quashie further argued that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s impact would extend beyond the NDC, benefiting the entire Ghanaian populace.

He contrasted her with the current Vice President, whom he criticized as indecisive, suggesting that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s leadership would bring a much-needed dynamic shift.

Concluding, he predicted that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, with her distinguished background, would become Ghana’s first female Vice President, utilizing her expertise to advance the nation’s development.

  • The Ghanaian doctor, Dr Wiafe Akenteng, who is saving lives of kidney patients with herbs

The Ghanaian doctor, Dr Wiafe Akenteng, who is saving lives of kidney patients with herbs

Around 850 million people worldwide suffer from kidney disease, predominantly in low-income and lower-middle-income countries where financial barriers restrict access to necessary diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.

Over time, research has shown that while Chronic Kidney Disease remains incurable, it can be managed with pharmaceuticals and dialysis machines, often for a patient’s entire lifespan.

In contrast to conventional methods, a Ghanaian herbal doctor, Dr. Wiafe Akenteng, and founder of the Natural Way Herbal Clinic, has made significant strides since 2012.

He has successfully treated over 3,000 kidney disease patients using solely natural remedies.

Dr. Akenteng’s motivation stems from personal experiences witnessing the devastating effects of kidney disease on friends and family.

Recognizing limitations in conventional medical approaches, he undertook extensive research and developed a blend of approximately 32 natural medicines to achieve patient recovery.

Dr. Akenteng challenges misconceptions surrounding kidney disease treatment, advocating for natural remedies over reliance on pharmaceuticals. He emphasizes that conditions like Hepatitis B can be effectively addressed through scientifically-backed natural solutions.

Offering hope to many, Dr. Akenteng provides treatment at significantly lower costs compared to traditional methods. Some patients experience remarkable recovery within days, a feat conventional approaches cannot achieve.

Despite his success, skepticism remains among some kidney patients, often due to cautionary advice from conventional medical practitioners.

Dr. Akenteng urged government intervention to expand access to affordable care, particularly for life-threatening conditions like tuberculosis and kidney disease.

He proposed sponsorship under the National Health Insurance Scheme as a viable solution to alleviate financial burdens and save lives.

In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Akenteng has received prestigious awards, including an honor from George Fox University in Newberg, OR, USA, in 2021. He has also been recommended by reputable award governing bodies like the Rectitude International Mission (RIM) and World Diplomatic Federation (WODIF) to the university’s governing Council.
