Visually impaired appointed law lecturer at UCC

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has made history by appointing Carruthers Tetteh as the first visually impaired lecturer at its Faculty of Law. Commencing his role in December 2023, Mr. Tetteh is tasked with teaching Criminal Law and the Ghana Legal System.

His inspiring journey began with a setback, losing his sight at the age of 11 due to a drug reaction.

Undeterred by this challenge, he continued to pursue his passion for Law, achieving a first-class degree in English and History in 2015 and later securing another first-class degree in Law at the University of Cape Coast.

Despite facing adversity, Mr. Tetteh has remained steadfast in his commitment to advocating for the less privileged. His passion for Law and determination to make a difference in the legal field have driven his academic pursuits.

His exceptional performance in class, particularly in Criminal Law, has not only showcased his knowledge but also won the admiration of his peers.

Reflecting on the turning point in his life, he shared, “In 2002, I lost my sight as a result of a drug reaction when I was in primary five and at age 11.”

This unexpected twist led him to the Akropong School for the Blind, where he recognized the significant change life had taken. Despite the challenges, he embraced the opportunity to be among peers with visual impairments.

Notably, Mr. Tetteh’s resilience and academic excellence extended to the Law Faculty, where he made history as the first visually impaired student admitted to the University of Cape Coast’s Law Faculty. His determination to set the right pace and contribute his best has marked his journey, emphasizing his commitment to breaking barriers and inspiring others.

The appointment of Carruthers Tetteh as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law is not only a testament to his individual achievements but also a milestone for inclusivity and diversity within academic institutions.

The University of Cape Coast’s decision to embrace diversity in its faculty reinforces its commitment to providing equal opportunities and recognizing talent irrespective of physical abilities.

“In 2002, I lost my sight as a result of a drug reaction when I was in primary five and at age 11.”

He added, “So in September 2002, when I was admitted to the Akropong School for the Blind, it dawned on me that life had really taken a different turn because I am now going to be in the midst of people who are blind.”

“Reading Law has always been my interest from childhood. I always wanted to be in a position to advocate for the less privileged. So that has been driving my interest throughout my life.”

He added, “At the Law Faculty, I also went all out to give out my best to set the right pace, knowing very well that I was the first student with Visual Impairment to be admitted to the Law Faculty in UCC.”

Demanding for autopsy report on Atta Mills is legitimate – Nana Eyifua III

Queen Mother of Odumma Clan-Ekumfi, Nana Eyifua III has rejected claims that she erred in demanding the autopsy report on late president Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.

During an interview on Hello Fm she argued that she finds it challenging to respond to questions surrounding the death of the former president as a result of the lack of information on the cause of his death.

“The siblings are not the biological parents of Prof Atta Mills. Within the Aurthur family, when the family head speaks, there is no challenge. It is surprising that Samuel claims to possess the autopsy report while the family does not. The extended family wields control over an individual. It is the fami

Recently, Nana Eyifua III further called on president Akufo-Addo to provide the family with an autopsy report to help put an end to speculative assumptions.

Nana Enyimfua III, had said: “Our biggest problem as a family is that ever since I was enstooled as queen mother, I have not seen any autopsy report in the family. That is the biggest problem I have with the family because if someone asks me what killed him I won’t know if the doctor said he broke his arm or his neck or drunk something.”

“So we plead with you and the government that the family needs the autopsy report so that in future when I am no more queen mother posterity will learn from it because no child from the family knows what killed the late former president so as not to talk about me as the queen mother in the family. So I plead with you on behalf of the family, before you leave office let us get the autopsy report.”

Meanwhile, brother of the late president, Dr. Cadman Mills, has stated that an autopsy had been conducted at the 37 Military Hospital and assured that it would be provided to the legitimate family.

In a post on X platform, Dr. Cadman Mills wrote “VERY STALE NEWS!!! And exasperating! President Mills died. An Autopsy was performed at 37 Military Hospital. A “Family Representative” was present at autopsy, as required by law. The (legitimate) family can obtain a copy from “37” to do with as it pleases. Next Subject.”

The former Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, has also requested that the name of his deceased brother, John Atta-Mills, should be allowed to rest in peace.

This appeal follows President Akufo-Addo’s endorsement of calls for the late President’s autopsy report to be officially documented in public records.

“What is the obsession about this autopsy report? If Koku Anyidoho is minded, he used to work for President John Evans Atta-Mills. Do you think the President was buried just like a chicken?” he said on JoyFM’s Midday News on January 13, 2024.

‘Dumsor’ is a thing of the past – Government

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has assured Ghanaians that the recent power outages, reminiscent of the 2015 “Dumsor” crisis, will not become a recurring issue.

The party emphasizes that ‘Dumsor’ is a thing of the past and is dedicated to preventing such widespread power shortages from happening again, as they did during the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

Alfred Thompson, a member of the NPP Communications Team, emphasized the government’s diligent efforts to ensure a consistent power supply for the nation during an interview on The Big Issue on Citi TV.

“We are saying to Ghanaians that it is not a dumsor era and we will never let them go under that challenge in this country again.”

“And that is why we are working assiduously to make sure that the lights are on and that is why we are working assiduously to make sure that the laws are reduced…and we will work in the interest of Ghanaians,” he stated.

Akufo-Addo tackling corruption with appropriate policies – Freddie Blay

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has praised the Akufo-Addo-led administration for its anti-corruption efforts.

While acknowledging the pervasive global nature of corruption, Mr Blay commended the government’s commitment to combat the issue through effective policies and institutional measures.

In a discussion on the January 14 edition of Hot Issues with Keminni Amanor, Blay highlighted the importance of policies and institutions in the fight against corruption.

He pointed out the significant efforts made by the Akufo-Addo administration, emphasizing the empowerment of the Police and Judiciary, along with initiatives like digitalization.

Blay’s remarks came in response to concerns raised by former Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, who stated during the Constitution Day Public Lecture that institutions tasked with fighting corruption are not doing enough.

Afari-Gyan expressed worry about the impact of corruption on the nation, emphasizing the need for measures to curb the menace.

While acknowledging the detrimental effects of corruption on the economy, Blay noted its global prevalence and stressed that the Akufo-Addo government has put in more effort than any other administration in the fight against corruption.

Atta Mills wasn’t buried like a chicken, let him rest in peace – Brother

The sibling of the late former President Atta-Mills, Samuel Atta-Mills, has issued an appeal to both the government and Koku Anyidoho.

The former Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, has requested that the name of his deceased brother, John Atta-Mills, should be allowed to rest in peace.

This appeal follows President Akufo-Addo’s endorsement of calls for the late President’s autopsy report to be officially documented in public records.

Expressing bewilderment at the persistent focus on the autopsy report, Samuel Atta-Mills questioned the rationale behind the concern, asserting that the information is already accessible in public records.

He elaborated on the availability of copies of the autopsy report, directing those interested to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the 37 military hospital.

“What is the obsession about this autopsy report? If Koku Anyidoho is minded, he used to work for President John Evans Atta-Mills. Do you think the President was buried just like a chicken?” he said on JoyFM’s Midday News on January 13, 2024.

He further clarified that he does not share family ties with the specific individual requesting Professor Mills’ affectionately known as Asomdwe Hene’s autopsy result.

Expressing frustration, he urged political figures not to bring up such matters during election times, particularly targeting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Koku Anyidoho.

Samuel Atta-Mills stated emphatically, “How come whenever it gets to election time involving President Mahama, then all these autopsy reports and everything come up? Look NPP, Koku Anyidoho, if you don’t have anything to campaign on, please leave the peaceful Professor John Evans Atta-Mills to rest in peace.”

2024 Elections: We will vote ‘skirt and blouse’ if Controller doesn’t resume his seat – Akim Swedru NPP supporters warn

A faction within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akim Swedru Constituency, Eastern Region, has issued a threat to vote against the party if the current Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Osei Nyarko, is retained as the parliamentary candidate for the 2024 elections.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the MP’s nearly 12-year tenure, the supporters criticize his alleged lack of developmental projects and accuse him of insensitivity to the constituents’ needs.

The discontented supporters highlight various issues, including a deteriorating road network, inadequate market infrastructure, and the absence of public amenities and sanitation facilities in Akim Swedru Township. T

hey argue that these challenges have persisted throughout the MP’s tenure, prompting their call for a change in leadership.

In contrast, the dissatisfied faction is advocating for the election of the Controller and Accountant General, Mr. Kwasi Kwaning Bosompem, as the NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

Supporters of Bosompem cite his contributions to education, health, and employment in the area. Specifically, they mention the construction of a 12-unit classroom block at Swedru SHS and road projects connecting Aporah Ningo to other communities.

“Our problem is that, we want jobs in the constituency. Secondly, the river Tsitsifo overflows its boundaries to the town, we have complained several times to the MP, he said it is not his job. Also the road from Oda to this place is in good condition, but from Adeambra and Edusei are in a deplorable state. If the Controller can do all these for us, we are waiting for him, we will vote for him.”

“We want change, four years now we have not seen anything good done by the MP. The roads are half done, the market too the same, no water, no light at the markets. The most worrying situation there is that there are no toilet facilities at the markets.”

“We don’t want the MP again, he has been on the seat for the past 12 years yet he has done nothing for the constituency. The police station here is someone’s rented house, no market, no lorry station, all he does is to push money to the delegates to vote for him. He doesn’t think about the people in the constituency. The plight of the people in the constituency doesn’t matter to him “another constituent said.

Another resident said, “The former MPs did a lot for the constituency when it was very large, now that it has been divided and the whole of Eastern Region he has the smallest constituency, he still can’t do anything. He is tired, he should go. We are pleading with the delegates to vote for Controller as PC for the constituency. They should vote wisely in the coming election or else we will also vote only presidential in the general election.”

The dissatisfied group accuses the incumbent MP of neglecting their concerns, emphasizing the need for change. They express a willingness to adopt a “skirt and blouse” voting strategy in the main polls if their preferred candidate is not selected.

Market women in Akim Swedru also join the chorus of dissatisfaction, claiming that the MP has ignored their needs, resulting in a deteriorating market environment.

They highlight issues such as water entering stores during rainfall and unfulfilled promises of cement deliveries.

The discontented residents voice their frustration, stating that the current MP has not adequately addressed the constituency’s challenges, and they urge fellow delegates to vote for a change in the upcoming election.

“The market is in a very deplorable state. When it rains the water enters the stores, we have complained a lot to the MP but he has not done anything about it. He even promised us 100 bags of cement but he never brought them. He refuses to listen to our plight”, a trader lamented.

NPP Primaries: K.T. Hammond seeks disqualification of opponent, Sammy Binfoh

Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has escalated his efforts to seek the disqualification of candidates in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries.

Following the dismissal of his initial petition by the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee on January 2, 2024, which targeted his main opponent, Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, K.T. Hammond has now lodged a fresh petition with the National Vetting Committee.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the regional committee’s decision, Hammond is urging the national body to disqualify not only Sammy Binfoh Darkwa but all three contenders in the party’s parliamentary primaries.

The petition, as seen by JoyNews, emphasizes Hammond’s discontent with the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee, led by NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

In his petition, K.T. Hammond argues that his opponents, including Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, do not meet the eligibility criteria outlined in Article 12(4) and (7) of the party’s constitution.

He asserts that these contenders are not genuine members of the NPP and have contributed minimally to the progress of the constituency.

K.T. Hammond is urging the National Vetting Committee to carefully consider his allegations and disqualify the candidates based on the outlined constitutional provisions.

As the political landscape heats up in anticipation of the January 27 primaries, campaigns are intensifying, with aspirants actively engaging delegates in the lead-up to the crucial election.

NAPO is my only pick – Ken Agyapong affirms for Dr Bawumia’s running mate

Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central , Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has expressed his exclusive support for Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as the only individual he will endorse for the role of running mate to NPP Flagbearer Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the bid to ‘break the 8.’

Addressing delegates of the Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region ahead of the January 27 primaries, where parliamentary candidates will be selected for NPP-held constituencies, Agyapong praised NAPO’s positive rapport with the party’s rank and file.

He emphasized the importance of NAPO’s ability to energize party members and attract victory in the 2024 elections.

“If you go to NAPO’s office, you will be marveled at the way he relates with party people. He takes care of party people. If we had 5 of his kind in the party, NPP would have been better off and far ahead of the NDC. Given the current circumstances where many of our members are despondent, selecting NAPO will be the only way to bring back the needed energy for victory in the 2024 elections,” Mr Agyapong said.

Ken Agyapong added, “If anybody else asks me to campaign for him or her to be selected as running mate, I won’t, except  Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.”

This position aligns with the sentiments of grassroots and party members who believe that the running mate should come from the Ashanti Region.

Political analysts also point to NAPO’s grassroots connection and commendable performance as Minister for Education and Energy, suggesting he could help Dr. Bawumia secure support from floating voters.

Rumors circulate that Dr. Bawumia is preparing to submit his running mate’s name to the NPP National Council for approval after the party’s primaries on January 27, 2024.

Meanwhile, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has filed his nomination for re-election as the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Manyhia South in Kumasi, marking his fifth bid for the position.

In a Facebook post on December 20, he expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of NPP members in the constituency.

  • Corruption hasn’t made Ghana poorer – Freddie Blay tells Afari-Gyan

Former Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Freddie Blay, has voiced disagreement with the assessment by former Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, that Ghana has become poorer due to corruption.

Blay acknowledged the imperative to curb corruption but rejected the notion that Ghana is now poorer due to this issue.

He emphasized, “Corruption is a canker that we must all fight, but I disagree with him that we have become poorer.

This country has not gone poorer. We are not rich; we are inching towards a middle-income country among the comity of nations.”

During an interview on the January 14 edition of Hot Issues with Keminni Amanor, Blay contested Afari-Gyan’s assertion made during the Constitution Day Public Lecture.

Mr Afari-Gyan had stated, “Over the years, we have become poorer as a nation and as a people, mainly due to pervasive corruption, particularly in the public sector.”

Mr Blay stressed that while Ghana may not be as affluent as some countries, it is not definitively poorer.

He expressed the belief that governance should focus on reducing poverty and enhancing the quality of life for the people, stating, “We can do better, I believe.”

Corruption is a global phenomenon, not limited to Ghana – Freddie Blay

Former National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has acknowledged the detrimental impact of corruption on the economy while emphasizing its global prevalence, stating that Ghana is not an exception.

In an interview on Hot Issues with Keminni Amanor, Blay expressed concern about corruption’s pervasive and harmful nature, noting that approximately a third of Ghana’s GDP is lost to corruption.

He highlighted the risk of people losing confidence in the economy, resorting to improper means to circumvent systems and evade taxes.

Responding to former Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan’s statement about public institutions not doing enough to combat corruption, Blay disagreed with the assertion that Ghana has become poorer due to corruption.

He emphasized that while corruption is a challenge that needs to be addressed, the country is not poorer and is progressing toward middle-income status.

Blay commended the efforts of the Akufo-Addo-led administration in fighting corruption, citing policies and institutions such as digitalization, empowered police, and the judiciary as effective measures.

“The government of Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, so far as I am concerned, has put in more efforts under the third and fourth republic, to fight corruption than any other government that I can think of,” he stated.

Mr Blay stressed the importance of institutions and policies in the fight against corruption and highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering law enforcement and judicial bodies.

Ghana’s next president will have a tough time – Franklin Cudjoe

The President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has conveyed his empathy for Ghana’s future leader in light of the continuous imposition of taxes by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

With the recent introduction of the Value Added Tax (VAT) on residential electricity consumption effective January 1, Mr. Cudjoe foresees the potential for additional taxes, given the government’s expressed need for increased revenue.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Citi TV over the weekend, Mr. Cudjoe underscored the significance of prudent economic management. He expressed apprehension for the upcoming president, who will grapple with the challenges posed by numerous tax policies.

“I think it is important to be very careful about how we want to deal with this economy. I pity the next president of this country because what it means is that you are going to deal with this nonsense of taxes and there will be no breathing room at all,” he articulated.

Some police, army will not participate in 2024 elections – Eagle Prophet

The founder and leader of God’s Crown Chapel, Eagle Prophet, has recently shared his vision for the 2024 general elections during an interview on Top Radio.

Eagle Prophet predicted a significant upheaval within the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces leading up to the 2024 polls. He foresaw a mass exodus of officers from both security services, with many choosing not to participate in the election.

In describing his vision, Eagle Prophet recounted, “I saw that a police car and a military vehicle were in one compound, and there was water oozing out from the ground, and there was water also from the heavens. The water entered the two cars, and all the people who were in these cars got down, and the water swept the car away.”

“As the policemen were coming out of their cars, they were all removing their uniforms and throwing them in the water, and they were all walking away naked. I asked that spirit of God what this meant, and that was when I saw a lot of the ballot boxes in the water being dragged away, as the police were walking off with their hands raised.”

Eagle Prophet conveyed the message he received from the spirit of God, stating, “A lot of military and police people would not vote this year. The voter turnout of their session is going to be very poor. There is going to be a very strong mass resignation in the military and the police.”

He further described seeing eagles lifting the two vehicles onto a mountaintop, where a policeman and a soldier blew horns to assemble a new set of officers. Eagle Prophet emphasized the need for prayers to avert this vision and urged President Akufo-Addo to address the situation with the people.

Spare parts traders at Abossey Okai has expressed discontent with the government, citing concerns over the negative impact of recently introduced taxes on their businesses.

They express disappointment, having perceived the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government as business-friendly, only to witness what they deem as harmful taxation measures.

The traders appeal to the government to establish a stable business environment to facilitate economic growth.

“The country and everything in it are messed up, and everything has changed, right down to the food we eat. Everything is being taxed, and we don’t see what the tax is being used for. I am paying GH¢6,000 for a container, and a part I used to sell for GH¢5 is now GH¢20,” one spare parts dealer said.

“Some two years ago, we were selling Toyota Vitz for GH¢35,000, but it is now selling for GH¢70,000, and the cost of spare parts has also shot up due to high import duties and the unstable exchange rates, and all we look forward to is voting this government out,” another dealer stated.

Illegal miners cater for our developmental needs – Aboabo residents

Residents of Aboabo, within the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality in the Western North Region, have endorsed the activities of illegal miners who are causing extensive damage to farmlands, plantations, river bodies, and the Anhwiaso East Forest Reserve.

The community contends that these unauthorized miners are driving their infrastructural development initiatives, citing unsuccessful attempts to secure government-led development in the area.

Large portions of land, including about 50 acres of cocoa farms and plantations in the Anhwiaso East Forest, bear the scars of destruction caused by these miners.

Multiple forest reserves across eight zones in the municipality have fallen victim to illegal mining, posing a threat to rivers like Aboabo and Aframpuye, which flow into the River Ankrobra.

Some Aboabo residents express support for the miners, acknowledging the adverse effects but asserting that their infrastructural needs are being met in the absence of substantial government intervention.

Theophilus Kwofie, a resident, states, “The community benefits from the activities of the illegal miners. They have helped reshape the bad road network, provided potable water, and educational facilities. We are okay with the work they do.”

Residents argue that illegal miners have played a crucial role in providing water, improving education, and enhancing road networks.

However, concerns arise about the involvement of some New Patriotic Party executives allegedly connected to concessions, potentially fueling illegal mining activities. Local farmer Samuel Kyem urges authorities to intervene and prevent further environmental devastation.

Paul Andoh, the Municipal Chief Executive, confirms active investigations by the Municipal Security Council.

He emphasized that the lack of development should not justify the persistence of illegal mining.

During a visit, excavators and equipment used by illegal miners were observed to still be present in the community.

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has emphasized his cautious approach to promises in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, citing the current economic challenges as a limiting factor for grand commitments.

Speaking to NDC supporters in Hohoe, Volta Region, Mahama stated, “…I am being very measured in the promises that I make because we all know the crisis in which this country has been plunged [into]. We will show you the books and finances of this country, and you will realize the harm that the New Patriotic Party administration has done to this country; the economy is broke.”

Get a copy of Atta-Mills’ autopsy report from 37 Military Hospital – Brother tells legitimate family

Brother of the late president, John Evans Atta-Mills, Dr. Cadman Mills, has addressed a renewed request from certain relatives of the deceased president seeking access to his autopsy report.

Dr. Mills stated, “The (legitimate) family can acquire a copy from 37 Military Hospital.”

The plea for the autopsy report came from Nana Enyimfua III, who represented the family during a visit to the president in Accra on Saturday.

Nana Enyimfua III expressed concerns about the undisclosed cause of the president’s death and stressed the significance of obtaining the report for closure and historical documentation.

In response on X, Dr. Cadman Mills revealed that an autopsy had been conducted at the 37 Military Hospital and assured that it would be provided to the legitimate family.

“VERY STALE NEWS!!! And exasperating! President Mills died. An Autopsy was performed at 37 Military Hospital. A “Family Representative” was present at autopsy, as required by law. The (legitimate) family can obtain a copy from “37” to do with as it pleases. Next Subject.”

President Nana Akufo-Addo subsequently described the request as a “legitimate one”.

“I’ll have to find out how to proceed on that, but it’s a legitimate demand,” the president said after the family called on him at Jubilee House.

“If the family wants to have [the autopsy report] of someone who died in those circumstances, it’s a legitimate demand”, Mr Akufo-Addo said after Mr Koku Anyidoho, the spokesperson of the late president, had informed him in the presence of Mills’ family that only the late President’s brother, Samuel Atta Mills, claims to have the autopsy report.

  • Know when to make prophecies public – Lawrence Tetteh to prophets

The Founder and President of World Wide Miracle, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, has urged fellow prophets to exercise discretion in delivering their prophetic messages, particularly as the 31st-night church services approach.

Emphasizing the sensitivity of private prophecies, he advised that such messages should be handled privately.

Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issue with Kemmini Amanor, Dr. Lawrence Tetteh cautioned against delivering doom prophecies, specifically those predicting death or accidents.

As prophets gear up to share their forecasts for 2024, he stressed the importance of handling certain prophecies privately.

In response to concerns about prophets causing fear through prophecies, the Police have reminded the public, especially the religious community, about the law on publishing false news.

The Police highlighted the need for compliance with the law and expressed appreciation for faith-based groups’ adherence to regulations, contributing to a society free from unnecessary panic and fear.

The Police statement urged religious communities to practice their faith within the legal framework, maintaining respect for the rights and freedoms of others and the public interest.

The directive, initially issued in 2021, led prophets like Nigel Gaisie to modify the delivery of their prophecies to align with police guidelines.

While Gaisie adhered to the directive in 2021, cautioning against death prophecies, he emphasized his commitment to prophesying with confidence and clarity.

However, other prophets, such as Rev. Owusu Bempah, expressed discontent with the directive, cautioning against enforcing laws on prophets and their activities in Ghana.

Rev. Owusu Bempah urged the Inspector General of Police not to touch pastors, preachers, and prophets, warning that such actions might have dire consequences for the nation.

He stressed the importance of leaving religious leaders to focus on their work and encouraged the government to address any illegalities directly.

These developments shed light on the ongoing dialogue between religious leaders and law enforcement regarding the delivery and regulation of prophetic messages in Ghana.

Named the “Children and Youth Development Campsite,” the project aims to offer accommodation for Scripture Union (SU) members, eliminating the reliance on public schools during camp meetings and positively impacting the lives of young individuals through discipleship.

Morgan Fianko Asiedu, Esq., Council Chairman of SU, expressed that the difficulty in securing public school facilities and the high cost of using private commercial facilities prompted the need for the campsite.

The completed project is expected to reduce the financial burden on the Union and instill a sense of uprightness and the fear of God in children and youth.

Rev. Derek E. Koomson, General Director of SU, highlighted the $4.9 million estimated cost for the first phase, including the main auditorium’s construction.

The entire project, estimated at $7.4 million, will be available for use by churches and serve as a model for similar projects nationwide.

Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, the Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church, Ghana, praised the intentional investment in the young and youth, foreseeing the project’s transformative impact.

Nana Kwafo Kwasi Wiafe, Kyidomhene, Pepawani, thanked SU for the project, urging the youth to make good use of the facility when completed.

Eastern Regional Minister Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong commended SU, encouraging them to positively influence the lives of young people.

Founded in the early 1950s, Scripture Union Ghana has evolved into a national, autonomous Evangelical Christian Organization, serving as the largest para-church movement.

Since the early 1970s, it has grown into an evangelico-charismatic movement beyond traditional evangelical boundaries.

PNC commemorates 43rd anniversary of Dr Hilla Limann’s overthrow

The People’s National Convention (PNC) commemorated the 43rd anniversary of the overthrow of President Dr. Hilla Limann of the Third Republic of Ghana on December 31.

According to the party, the democratically-elected People’s National Party (PNP) government was ousted by the PNDC government in a military coup.

In a press statement released by the General Secretary of PNC, Janet Asana Nbla, on Sunday, it was emphasized that Dr. Limann, who governed for 27 months, stood for moral values and strongly condemned selfishness, greed, and corruption, considering them the greatest “social evil.”

The party expressed its dissatisfaction with how Dr. Limann was treated, especially considering his principled stance.

The statement noted,“Interestingly, the PNDC government that removed him from office on allegations of corruption never found any evidence against President Hilla Limann or his appointees, or immediate family members acquiring wealth at the expense of the taxpayers”.

The PNC clarified in the statement that the 1981 coup that led to Dr. Limann’s overthrow resulted in a decline in the quality of life for Ghanaians and brought immense hardship to the entire country.

It emphasized that Ghanaians lost their “dignity and sense of importance due to this coup.”

Calling on Ghanaians to celebrate Dr. Limann’s remarkable and selfless leadership, the PNC stated, “His exemplary life must inspire and serve as a form of education to the younger generation about the true nature of politics as a means to serve and not to be served.”

The party urged individuals to strive to exemplify the values exhibited by Dr. Limann, ensuring that the pursuit of political power is driven by a genuine desire to uplift the pride and well-being of Ghanaians, rather than selfish motives.

Additionally, the PNC revealed plans to introduce ‘Limannism’ as a subject at all levels of education in a future PNC government, aiming to instill in the younger generation principles of selflessness, morality, and compassion.

The statement concluded by asserting that the PNC would serve as the “Biblical David” to confront and eliminate the “Goliath” of corruption from the country.

“His exemplary life must inspire and serve as a form of education to the younger generation about the true nature of politics as a means to serve and not to be served.

“We should strive to exemplify the values exhibited by Dr Limann, ensuring our pursuit of political power is not driven by selfish motives but rather by a genuine desire to uplift the pride and well-being of Ghanaians,” the statement further said.

The party added that “A future PNC government would introduce ‘Limannism’ as a subject at all levels of education to help instil in the younger generation principles of selflessness, morality, and compassion.

“It will require the PNC to serve as the Biblical David to confront and eliminate the Goliath (corruption) from this country.”

No one is conspiring to oust NPP MPs – Ahiagbah

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has refuted claims that outspoken NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) who have been critical of the government are intentionally being singled out for removal in the forthcoming parliamentary primaries.

The claims were made by Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, an opposition MP representing Odododiodoo.

Vanderpuye specifically cited Eugene Boakye Antwi of Subin and Andy Appiah-Kubi of Asante-Akim North, both of whom had been vocal in advocating for the removal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, as examples of MPs allegedly facing targeted elimination.

During an appearance on the Key Points program on TV3, Vanderpuye stated, “These individuals are being targeted by the establishment,” while discussing the decisions of some lawmakers, including Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, not to seek reelection.

In response, Ahiagbah refuted the claim on the same show, stating, “The idea that some MPs are being targeted is not true. The space is competitive, so if you are afraid of some contest you can’t make that claim.”

NPP closed nominations on December 25 for parliamentary aspirants in constituencies with incumbent MPs.

The parliamentary election is scheduled for January 27, 2024, marking the next phase of the party’s efforts to have representatives in all 275 constituencies. This follows the successful primaries held in orphan constituencies on December 2.

As of the close of nominations on Christmas day, some seasoned party members opted not to submit forms, signaling a voluntary end to their parliamentary careers.

One notable figure on this list is Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who has represented the Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region since 1997.

263 lives lost, 2,557 injured in 2023 fire outbreaks – GNFS

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has revealed that a total of 5,256 fire outbreaks were recorded between January and November 2023.

Additionally, the GNFS responded to 532 road traffic accidents, resulting in 2,557 injuries and 263 deaths. This data indicates a 4.92% decrease compared to the 5,530 fire outbreaks recorded during the same period in 2022.

Chief Fire Officer Julius Kuunuor shared this information during the culmination of the GNFS’s 60th-anniversary celebration, Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, and Thanksgiving service in Accra.

Mr Kuunuor credited the decline in fire incidents to nationwide public fire safety education initiatives conducted by the Service, protecting properties worth millions of Cedis.

Mr. Kuunuor highlighted the GNFS’s efforts in conducting Fire Safety Audits and Inspections in 14,157 public and residential premises to adhere to established fire safety standards, ensuring occupant well-being.

He stressed the public’s responsibility to avoid misuse of emergency services, noting 656,591 prank calls (false alarms) recorded in the year.

In addressing challenges faced by the GNFS, Kuunuor mentioned collaboration with the government to procure Fire Appliances and Equipment, including Dual Purpose Tenders, Water Tankers, Rapid Intervention Vehicles, Utility Vehicles, and Command Vehicles in 2024.

“The Service is also in collaboration with the Ghana Water Limited to ensure constant and adequate supply of water through the construction of Fire Hydrants and Drilling of Mechanised boreholes and duck -outs for firefighting,” he added.

The Service is also partnering with Ghana Water Limited to ensure a consistent water supply for firefighting through the construction of Fire Hydrants and drilling of boreholes.

During the celebration, 10 retired Officers were honored for their dedicated service.

Minister for the Interior Ambrose Dery expressed appreciation for the GNFS personnel, acknowledging their commitment to community safety and security.

Mr Dery highlighted achievements, including the establishment of the Fire College at Kyebi and the completion of Training Schools in Walewale and Duayaw Nkwanta.

The Minister shared essential fire safety tips for the festive season and reassured the government’s commitment to equipping the GNFS with modern firefighting and rescue equipment.

He paid tribute to the retired Officers, emphasizing their contributions to the organization’s growth and progress.

“How institutions pay homage to their heroes, especially retirees, reflects profoundly on the sacrifices made for the organisation’s growth and progress.

“It is in this direction that I wish to express my deepest appreciation to the illustrious retired Officers who are to be honoured today for their years of dedicated service to the nation, “ he said.

Accountant General must be called to order – Political analyst tells Akufo-Addo, Bawumia

Political analyst Dr. Jonathan Asante Okyere has urged President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to address what he perceives as the Accountant General, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem’s disregard for the Constitution.

According to Dr. Okyere, Kwaning-Bosompem’s continued presence in office is a violation of both the Constitution and the Code of Conduct governing the Civil Service in Ghana.

Despite serving as the Controller and Accountant General, Kwaning-Bosompem has declared his intention to run in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries for the Akyem Swedru Constituency in the Eastern Region, scheduled for January 27.

Dr. Okyere’s concerns were expressed following confirmation by Prof. Dominic Fobih, the Akyem Swedru Constituency Chairman of the NPP, acknowledging Kwaning-Bosompem as one of three aspirants in the party’s primaries for the constituency.

Responding to queries about a potential breach of the constitution, Prof. Fobih deferred to the courts as the appropriate authority to make such determinations. The Supreme Court has previously ruled that a member of the Civil Service or Local Government Service cannot continue in those roles after being sworn in as a member of a District Assembly.

This situation has raised widespread concerns, as Kwaning-Bosompem remains in his role as Controller and Accountant General while actively participating in political campaigning for the 2024 elections.

  • Eating ‘gob3’ on New Year’s day brings success, chicken comes with bad luck

On December 29, 2023, I saw something on CNN that got me interested. The health titbits report that eating traditional beans ensures good luck in the New Year.

I was surprised. Since everyone looks towards the New Year with hope for good health, happiness, and good luck, especially after the past couple of years we’ve had, I decided to write to inform you about good luck foods for this new year.

I notice that every food has a spiritual background but I never knew beans were linked to success in the new year.

Helyn Trickey, CNN.com Interactivity Editor(2000) also revealed that if you bear a grudge against someone, sip a soup. If you want to banish hunger from your home, throw a cake at your door. Chocolate, too, is rumored to be a sign of richness, and is consumed to ensure wealth in the coming year, says food historian and cookbook author Ruth Adams Bronz.

But, if it is good sex you seek — nothing beats an oyster.
“A good oyster is like a poached egg, you just warm it, but you don’t cook it all the way,” says Bronz as she recalls her grandmother’s Oyster Pie.

This delicacy is generally reserved for the first day of the year and is eaten to ensure an active libido in the year to come.

There seem to be certain foods that have taken on cross-cultural symbolism. Let’s take a look at some traditional foods that bring good luck and how you can spice them up!

    Black-Eyed Peas

Black-eyed peas are a very common side dish for a New Year’s Day meal thanks to their long history with good fortune. It is believed that African Americans celebrated the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation by feasting on dishes that included black-eyed peas.

It is also said that in Ancient Egypt, black-eyed peas were eaten as a way to show humility to the gods, therefore bringing good luck to those who ate them.

Beans represent luck and greens represent money. Typically, collard greens and black-eyed peas are served as sides but, in Charleston, a rice and bean dish called Hoppin’ John is popular.

It is also believed that beans and other legumes are eaten because their shape resembles a coin, and they are said to bring wealth and prosperity in the coming year.

In Italy, Brazil, and much of Europe, residents eat lentils – with rice, in soups, or mixed with sausage.

Lentils have added good luck because they swell when cooked, adding the imagery of growing wealth. Sweet black beans called kuromame are usually on the menu in Japan.

This means that Gobe is a New Year’s meal. Besides, you can also eat the beans alone or with a few rice.

    Greens

In parts of Europe and the southern US, cooked greens resemble cash, and are eaten on January 1st to bring wealth. From Sauerkraut in Germany to kale in northern Europe, to collard greens in the American south, people eat plenty of greens hoping for a financially prosperous year – and the added health benefits surely can’t hurt!

    Pork

Pork is known to bring good luck for a very interesting reason– the way that pigs behave. Animal theorists say that while most animals scratch backward, pigs bury their snout in the ground and move forward– the same way we want to go into the New Year. Per German and Eastern European traditions, pork is often eaten on New Year’s Day with cabbage. For example, sausage and sauerkraut is a popular New Year’s Day meal.

    Noodles

In Japan, long soba noodles are eaten to ensure longevity. Because only unbroken noodles are said to bring long life, they are cooked in a soup and then slurped.

    Fish

Germans and Scandinavians eat pickled herring at midnight. Their abundance in parts of Europe is hoped to bring abundance in the New Year, and their silvery color is reminiscent of silver coins. In China, eating a steamed fish cooked whole for the Lunar New Year (different from our January 1st New Year) is thought to bring a long, healthy life.

    Fruit
In the Philippines, it is common to celebrate New Year’s Eve with fruit. Filipinos use twelve different types of fruit to symbolize each month of the year. These typically include round fruits, but can sometimes also include mangoes and watermelons.
In Mexico, they celebrate the New Year by eating grapes at midnight. This stems from a Spanish tradition known as Las Doce Uvas de la Suerte, or “the Twelve Grapes of Luck”. When the clock strikes midnight, you eat one grape for each stroke of the clock for prosperity and good luck.

    Rice Pudding

Rice pudding is served in Sweden and Finland with an almond hidden somewhere inside. The lucky finder of the nut is said to be guaranteed a lucky new year — and some families even give them a prize, according to Global Table Adventure.

    What Not to Eat

Chicken! Interestingly, in Ghana, we eat chicken. However, it has been reported that because chicken and other poultry scratch backward, they are considered bad luck to eat on New Year’s Day in most parts of the world. Eating chicken would mean moving backward in the upcoming year – something no one wants to do.

You don’t have to make your prophecies about elections public – Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council to Pastors

The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council is strongly advising its members and spiritual leaders to exercise restraint in making political prophecies regarding the outcome of the forthcoming 2024 general election.

With political observers anticipating a two-horse race between John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party, the Council’s Secretary, Apostle Immanuel Nii Okuley Tettey, underscores the paramount importance of prioritizing peace over engaging in predictions that could potentially jeopardize the nation’s stability.

In an interview with Citi News, Apostle Tettey expressed the Council’s guidance for religious leaders to redirect their efforts towards promoting peace rather than venturing into the speculative realm of predicting electoral outcomes.

“If God reveals to you, keep it up in prayers. If God reveals to you, keep the person up in prayer, and let’s see God fulfil His prophecies. Don’t try to put it in a public place and we’ve seen it severally in times past that so-called men of God have prophecized that his person is going to win and it didn’t happen” Apostle Tettey added.

He specifically urged these spiritual figures not to seek favor from any particular political party but instead engage in actions that contribute to the overall sustenance of peace within the country.

Apostle Tettey emphasized the wisdom of keeping any divine revelations in prayers, encouraging spiritual leaders to intercede for the individuals involved and allowing God to fulfill His prophecies without necessarily publicizing them.

He highlighted past instances where so-called men of God had made public prophecies about election outcomes that ultimately did not materialize, underscoring the potential risks associated with such public pronouncements.

2024 elections will foster economic growth – Economist

Economist Professor, Godfred Alufar Bokpin has suggested that Ghana’s economy will witness notable growth in 2024 due to election-related activities.

Prof. Bokpin explained that the elections would lead to increased usage of hospitality services, particularly hotels and car rentals, injecting more liquidity into the economy and providing relief to Ghanaians.

In an exclusive interview with the Ghana News Agency reflecting on the 2023 fiscal year and the country’s economic outlook for the coming year, he emphasized the importance of policies aimed at enhancing productivity and stability.

The economist highlighted the positive impact of election-year spending by politicians on businesses such as car rentals and the hotel industry.

However, he cautioned the government to implement measures preventing inflation from rising due to increased liquidity from political expenditures.

“There’s some good news next year because it’s an election year; politicians are going to spend, including travels across all the regions, and that in itself, would inject some liquidity into the system,” he stated.

“This means that there are some related businesses that will also pick up next year – car rentals and the hotel industry, and some Ghanaians whose lifestyles are indexed to political activities, this will be their harvest season,” he noted.

While acknowledging potential benefits for some Ghanaians, Prof. Bokpin advised caution, as excessive liquidity without a corresponding rise in production could lead to inflation.

Looking ahead, he predicted a reduction in external funds flowing into the country from the second half of 2024, potentially putting pressure on the Ghanaian Cedi. Prof. Bokpin explained that investors tend to adopt a “wait and see” approach during election periods.

“That pickup can benefit some Ghanaians, but we should be mindful that the same situation could cause inflation to go up, because there may be a lot more liquidity injection without a corresponding increase in production,” Prof Bokpin said.

He urged Ghanaians to moderate their growth expectations for 2024, emphasizing that challenges still exist and a sustained recovery requires careful management.

Regarding the government, Prof. Bokpin called for expeditious agreements with bilateral and commercial creditors for the second tranche of the $600 million loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the syndicated cocoa loan.

He emphasized that such agreements would mitigate economic uncertainty, support the Cedi, and maintain overall economic stability.

“The election fever begins from the second half of the year as experienced in all previous competitive elections, and many investors would not like to bring their funds into the country, but adopt the attitude of wait and see.

“We should be moderate with our expectations because we’re not entirely out of the woods and there’s still some considerable price that we have to pay to sustain the recovery. We need to conclude doing so, in addition to the syndicated cocoa loan,” the economist explained.

Atebubu gets new court complex from Chief Justice

The Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, has inaugurated a dual courtroom complex in Atebubu-Amantin to enhance justice delivery.

The newly opened twin-court building accommodates both circuit and high courts, featuring ancillary facilities such as judges’ chambers, registrars’ offices, recorders’ offices, cashiers’ offices, bailiffs’ offices, and docket and washroom facilities.

Chief Justice Torkornoo commended the Atebubu-Amantin municipal assembly, led by Chief Executive Hon. Edward Owusu, for funding the project from internally generated resources, dubbing him “my man of the year.”

In her address at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Justice highlighted the significance of the facility, emphasizing that it would improve access to justice, especially considering that the nearest circuit court is 142.5 kilometers away in Techiman.

The Chief Justice stressed the importance of adherence to the law, asserting that it ensures order, fairness, justice, and ultimately leads to prosperity. She cautioned court staff against extorting money from court users, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated.

Bono East Regional Minister Hon. Kwasi Adu-Gyan applauded the Atebubu-Amantin municipal assembly for its commitment to justice delivery and security, aligning the court’s establishment with sustainable development goal 16, which emphasizes peace, justice, and strong institutions.

Member of Parliament for the Atebubu-Amantin constituency Hon. Sanja Nanja urged the Chief Justice to revamp the Legal Aid outfit in the municipality to facilitate easy access to justice for the less privileged.

Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Edward Owusu expressed joy on this significant day, highlighting the previous inconvenience faced by residents who had to travel to Wenchi or Sunyani for high court services. He urged citizens to resort to the law courts for dispute resolution and encouraged court staff to honor their appointments.

Delegations from the Atebubu and Amantin traditional councils, led by Nana Kwabena Kyere III and Barima Osei Poku, graced the occasion. The event was chaired by The Bassamanhene Nana Owusu Sakyi III, who also serves as the Vice President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs.

Prophecy communication is not your mandate – Pastor tells IGP

The Resident Pastor of Christ Bible Ministry International, Rev. Ofori Jacob, has dismissed the concerns raised by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, regarding the communication of prophecies by religious leaders as the year comes to a close.

In an effort to curb the trend of some religious leaders, particularly prophets, instilling fear in Ghanaians through prophecies, the Police issued a reminder this week about the law on the publication of false news, urging compliance from the general public, especially the religious community.

While acknowledging the right to practice faith and freedom of speech, the Police emphasized that these rights should be exercised with respect for the rights and freedoms of others and for the public interest.

“The Police would like to remind the public that while we have the right to practice our faith and freedom of speech as guaranteed by our constitution and democratic values, we want to reiterate that the enjoyment of these rights are subject to respect for the rights and freedoms of others and for the public interest.

“As we have come to consider December 27th as Prophecy Communication Compliance Day, the Ghana Police Service is once again urging religious communities to practice their faith within the legal framework. In the spirit of the season, we wish everyone Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year,” the Police statement said.

In response, Rev. Ofori Jacob, in an interview with GHOne News, asserted that the Inspector-General of Police does not hold the mandate to regulate spiritual affairs in Ghana.

He highlighted that there are existing regulations that guide the conduct of the body of Christ within the national framework.

According to Rev. Ofori Jacob, the IGP aims to bring order and sanity into the system. However, he emphasized that in matters concerning the church, the ultimate authority is the Lord Jesus Christ, who directs the course of action.

While acknowledging the need for regulation and streamlining in the church, he reiterated that the IGP is not the regulator of spiritual affairs in the country.

“He is an enforcer of law and when it comes to spirituality, he has not been given that mandate in Ghana. There are regulations that bring the body of Christ to where the nation as it were will want us to be. The IGP just wants to bring, as they say, sanity into the system.

“But mind you, when it comes to the church, the Lord Jesus Christ is the Head and he directs what must be done. Of course, we are in a generation that when people begin to see the world as it was coming at the church so strong, it is good. We are trying to regulate and streamline things, however, the IGP is not the regulator of spiritual affairs.

We have no plans to render local salt miners at Songor homeless – Ada East DCE

The Ada East District Assembly has contradicted the assertions made by the local miners’ association of Songor, refuting claims that its members would face homelessness if relocated from the Songor lagoon concession.

Following a December 31 eviction deadline issued by the Ada East District Assembly for Electrochem Ghana’s mining operations, these salt miners were instructed to vacate the Ada East sector of the Songor lagoon concession.

Despite their resistance to the directive, the District Chief Executive of Ada East, Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, clarified in an interview with Citi News that residential facilities along the concession would remain unaffected.

She assured the local miners that Electrochem Ghana is prepared to provide them with whatever is necessary to sustain their livelihoods in the region.

Pobee emphasized that there is no intention to evict or relocate anyone, and the existing houses will remain in place permanently.

She dismissed the validity of the reasons given by the miners, stating that Electrochem is ready to address their needs in exchange for their cooperation, as they aim to preserve the miners’ livelihoods.

“Nobody is evicting them, and they are not going to relocate anybody. The houses that are there are going to remain there forever. The ponds that they are going to create will not affect any house. So the excuse that they are giving is not valid, and I think Electrochem is ready to give them anything they want in exchange for what they are doing because they don’t want to take their livelihoods from them.”

Group urges govt, mining companies to help fund Upper East airport

BONABOTO, a non-partisan association representing citizens from Bolgatanga, Nangodi, Bongo, Tongo, Zuarungu, and adjacent areas, has issued a call to both the government and mining companies operating in the Upper East region to collaborate on the establishment of an airport for the region.

The association contends that such an endeavor would not only enhance accessibility to the Upper East Region but also foster economic growth and development.

Professor Samuel Awinkine Atintono, the National President of BONABOTO, stressed the critical need for collaboration between the government and mining companies to actualize the airport project.

Addressing the issue during the 13th Biennial Delegate’s Congress of BONABOTO at the Gbeogo School for the Deaf in the Talensi district, Prof. Atintono appealed to the government and development partners, especially mining companies, to provide support for the construction of the airport, which has been a long-standing aspiration of the region.

Despite past attempts, successive governments have failed to construct an airport for the Upper East region.

The president of BONABOTO urged feuding factions in the Bawku skin and the Bolgatanga chieftaincy dispute to embrace peace, facilitating the realization of developmental projects like the airport.

Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, assured that the government is committed to constructing an airport for the region by the end of 2024.

He called on BONABOTO to collaborate with other stakeholders to formulate a Regional Development Strategic Plan, leveraging the human and material resources available in the region.

Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebgtang, expressed concerns about illegal gold mining activities in the Talensi district.

He called for large-scale gold mining in his area and emphasized the need for corporate social responsibility from mining companies to ensure sustainable development for the district and the region.

I will introduce an additional holiday to Eid-ul-Fitr celebration – Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made a commitment to provide an additional Eid holiday for Muslims in Ghana if elected in 2024.

Expressing concern about some Muslims missing out on the public holiday at the end of Ramadan due to the 29 or 30-day rule for moon sightings, Mr. Mahama addressed this issue during the 63rd Annual National Conference of the Ghana Muslim Mission in Kumasi on Friday, December 29.

He emphasized the intention to address this concern without negatively impacting productivity. Mr. Mahama outlined his plan to modify the Public Holidays Act, ensuring that the same number of public holidays is maintained in Ghana while introducing an extra holiday for the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

“We aim to address the issue where some of our Muslim community members are unable to enjoy the public holiday at the end of Ramadan due to the 29 or 30-day rule for sighting the moon.”

“To do this, we will introduce an additional holiday to the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. We will, however, ensure that this does not affect productivity by modifying the Public Holidays Act so that Ghana continues to have the same number of public holidays per year.”

I am no more excited about the Nat’l Cathedral project – Lawrence Tetteh

Founder and President of World Wide Miracle, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, has reconsidered his support for the National Cathedral project, expressing reservations after learning of corruption allegations and the resignation of senior clergymen from the board.

Mr Tetteh, once excited about the project, now deems it unwise to proceed, citing discomfort among his colleagues.

“I was very excited about it initially but having heard some of the things, if my colleagues there are very uncomfortable I think I will be very unwise to want it done,” he told TV3’s Keminni Amanor on Sunday December 31 edition of Hot Issues.

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba, prominent clergymen, resigned due to the government’s failure to appoint an independent accounting firm to audit funds allocated to the National Cathedral.

Their resignation statement emphasized the absence of a crucial audit to restore public confidence, leading to their conscientious withdrawal from the Board of Trustees.

“Despite our prayers, best hopes and wishes, unfortunately, a needed audit to help restore public confidence and trust in this consequential project has not been enacted to the best of our knowledge. Since January 2023, we awaited news to no avail, regarding the finding of the audit.

“We, therefore, regret that as a matter of conscience and faith, we hereby submit to you our resignation from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, ” portions of the statement said.

In January 2023, Duncan-Williams and Anaba advocated for a temporary halt to the cathedral’s construction until an audit could be conducted.

They emphasized the challenging economic climate in Ghana, proposing transparency through an independent audit by a nationally recognized accounting firm.

Responding to the resignations, Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah, Executive Director of the National Cathedral Project, clarified that both clergymen were aware of the engagement with Deloitte for the audit.

He highlighted their participation in meetings, press releases, and updates on the audit process, debunking claims of insufficient information.

Opoku-Mensah also revealed the rejection of the clergymen’s resolution by the Board, citing redundancy and undue politicization linked to the 2024 elections.

Despite attempts to politicize the project, the Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and collaboration with auditors to complete the work.

Ada East: Intentions to evict salt miners must be withdrawn – NGO tells Assembly

The non-profit environmental media advocacy organization, the Environment Report, has urged the Ada East District Assembly in the Greater Accra Region to rescind the eviction notice issued to salt farmers in the area.

The notice, issued on December 14, 2023, mandates all salt miners to vacate their lands by December 31, 2023, to allow Electrochem GH to commence full operations on January 3, 2024.

The Environment Report contends that this eviction contradicts the ongoing parliamentary and CHRAJ probe, investigating widespread human rights abuses, threats of violence, and fatalities linked to the government’s allocation of salt mining rights to Electrochem Ghana.

The organization emphasizes the centuries-long harmony of Ada’s indigenes with the land, practicing sustainable salt production that is integral to their livelihoods and cultural identity.

The statement stresses the need for the local assembly to withdraw the eviction notice, allowing Parliament to conclude its investigations before any action is taken.

Additionally, the organization calls upon Parliament and the Local Government Authority to advocate for the operationalization of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

This, they argue, would ensure that laws and policies governing business enterprises facilitate respect for human rights rather than constraining them.

  • Govt must have a system where experienced MPs can be replaced with skillful youth – ACEPA

Govt must have a system where experienced MPs can be replaced with skillful youth – ACEPA

The Executive Director of the African Center for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), Dr. Rasheed Draman, has advocated for political parties to implement intentional grooming strategies to effectively replace seasoned Members of Parliament.

Several Senior Majority Members of Parliament, including the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, have indicated that they will not be contesting in the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2024.

This development has prompted concerns about the potential shortage of experienced legislators.

In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Rasheed Draman urged political parties to formulate deliberate strategies for the phased replacement of MPs.

“In Norway, the parties have academics; they prepare young people, they have a way of preparing people to go to parliament. In that system, you can have a lot of young people in parliament, with people who are already prepared, people who have gained some experience through the preparations and support that they have had from the parties.”

“In our system, I don’t know if there is any school or academic where a candidate who is preparing to go to parliament is taken through some kind of skills training and preparations. You wake up, and if there’s a mad rush, everybody wants to go to parliament without any experience. And then you have these experienced hands leaving; then it creates a big void.”

Drawing a parallel with Norway, he highlighted the importance of academic preparation and training provided by parties to groom young individuals for parliamentary roles.

Dr. Draman expressed skepticism about the absence of similar training programs or academic initiatives for parliamentary candidates in the Ghanaian system.

He emphasized the need for aspiring MPs to undergo skills training and preparations before entering parliament to fill the void left by departing experienced hands.

The Executive Director of ACEPA also lamented the impact of losing experienced MPs on parliamentary proceedings, emphasizing that legislative work requires experience gained through practical involvement.

Reflecting on the departure of prominent MPs, including Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, First Deputy Speaker Joe Osei Owusu, Atta Akyea, Joe Ghartey, and Ken Agyapong, among others, Dr. Draman underscored the significance of protecting certain seats through internal negotiations and agreements within political parties.

Notable MPs opting not to seek reelection include Dan Botwe, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Emmanuel Marfo, Benito Owusu-Bio, Carlos Ahenkora, Nana Kwasi Adjei Boateng, William Owuraku Aidoo, Johnson Adu, Francis Manu-Adabor, Suleman Sanid, Kojo Kum, and Francisca Oteng. The reasons behind their decisions remain uncertain, with speculation ranging from potential retirements to pursuing alternative professional opportunities or taking a break from parliamentary life.

GAF receives rockets and vehicles from Chinese company

A Chinese firm has generously contributed Ground Artillery Equipment (GAE) to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Battle Training Camp in Bundase.

The donation, a significant step to reinforce Ghana’s defense capabilities, was presented by Mr. Gu Jia, the Division Director of MESSRS Poly Technologies Incorporated, China, on December 7, 2023.

Accompanied by representatives from B&G African Trading, Mr. Gu Jia handed over a suite of newly acquired equipment to the GAF, including 122 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), one Reconnaissance Vehicle, one Command Vehicle, along with 7200x122mm rockets, spare parts, and essential accessories.

Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Michael Appiah-Agyekum, the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) in-charge of Administration at the General Headquarters, expressed sincere gratitude as the Guest of Honour.

He acknowledged the companies’ invaluable support in fortifying Ghana’s defense system and highlighted the crucial role of the equipment in enhancing and safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.

AVM Michael Appiah-Agyekum emphasized that ongoing efforts, including acquiring strategic equipment and personnel training, aim to resource the GAF operationally and provide essential welfare packages for troops during their service.

He noted the critical timing of the equipment acquisition, aligning with a period of increased terrorism and trans-organized crime in the sub-region. AVM Appiah-Agyekum stressed that the equipment would significantly bolster the operational capabilities of the GAF, positioning it effectively to handle any aggressive force.

Brigadier General Barima Brako Owusu, the Chief Staff Officer at Army Headquarters, urged troops to uphold a high level of professionalism in their duties and emphasized the importance of proper maintenance for the newly acquired GAE.

  • Central bank digital currencies must be appropriately designed to check potential risks – IMF

Central bank digital currencies must be appropriately designed to check potential risks – IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) researchers, including Tobias Adrian, Dong He, Tommaso Mancini-Griffoli, and Tao Sun, have asserted that Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC) hold the potential to enhance payment systems and financial inclusion if appropriately designed, though poorly designed CBDCs may pose risks.

The researchers recommend that countries carefully and systematically explore CBDCs, emphasizing that benefits are likely to emerge over time based on policy decisions, private sector responses, and technological evolution.

In Ghana, Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison acknowledged the rapid changes in information and communication technology and its impact on global activities.

He highlighted the central role of technology in national development and noted the Bank’s efforts in fostering a conducive environment for digital financial services.

“Benefits are more likely to come in time, following the policies pursued by countries and the private sector’s response, as well as the evolution of technology.

“In most cases, it would be useful for countries to continue exploring CBDC, carefully and systematically, as IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva noted in her recent speech at the Singapore Fintech Festival,” they said in a publication on the IMF Blog.

Dr. Addison emphasized the emergence of various digital financial services, attributing the significant improvement in financial access from 41% in 2014 to 68% in 2021 to interventions supporting financial inclusion.

He expressed optimism about the potential of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) to further advance financial inclusiveness in the country, grounded in policy imperatives such as financial inclusion, payment safety, efficiency, and the digitalization of the Ghanaian economy.

“Therefore, our ability to appreciate, adopt, and adapt to technology will help position the financial services industry to drive national development efforts,” he stated.

“Currently, the financial sector can boast of a variety of digital financial services, including payment, credit, savings, and investment products that are offered by banks and FinTechs. New business models have emerged through FinTech channels and removed barriers to micro-credit as well as paved way for affordable and convenient inward remittance services.

“These interventions have fostered financial inclusion in the country, evidenced by the phenomenal improvement in financial access from 41% in 2014 to 68% in 2021, according to the Global Findex Report of the World Bank,” Dr Addison said.

The Governor mentioned the publication of a design paper and solicitation of public input as steps taken by the Bank of Ghana to communicate its CBDC concepts, paving the way for a pilot project aligned with the needs and aspirations of Ghanaians. Dr. Addison shared these insights at the eCedi Hackathon awards dinner in Accra on December 14.

“Despite the progress made, much remains to be done to meet the financial service needs of every citizen in meaningful ways. This therefore calls for an innovative mindset, creativity, and collaboration in exploring novel solutions of which a central bank digital currency is promising. It is therefore our belief that the Bank’s CBDC will further push the frontiers of financial inclusiveness in the country.

“Indeed, Bank of Ghana’s CBDC exploration journey is grounded on several policy imperatives, including financial inclusion, safety and efficiency of payments, and the growing digitalisation of the Ghanaian economy. Beginning with the publication of a design paper, the Bank of Ghana communicated in clear terms its concepts of CBDC and solicited comments on how to proceed with a CBDC pilot project that will meet the needs and aspirations of Ghanaians,” he said while speaking at the eCedi Hackathon awards dinner in Accra, last Thursday, December 14.

Recognizing the significance of maintaining a harmonious and peaceful atmosphere, especially in the realm of politics, Agbeve underscored the need for citizens, particularly those engaged in political activities, to center their campaigns on substantive issues.

Kennedy Agyapong will someday become Ghana’s president – Prophet

In a recent interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show, self-proclaimed prophet Eric Boahen Uche confidently asserted that the politician and businessman, Kennedy Agyapong, is destined to become the President of Ghana.

Prophet Uche, known for his bold and accurate political predictions, emphasizes the unwavering nature of this prophecy, stating, “Kennedy Agyapong would definitely become president of Ghana; there is no two ways about it. He’s destined to become president”.

“If you go back to check my background, I was the only prophet to predict that the 2020 elections would go to court. I clearly said that the NDC would take the NPP to court, and it all happened”.

Highlighting his past accuracy, Prophet Uche references his unique prediction about the 2020 elections going to court, where he foresaw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) taking the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to court.

Expressing confidence in Agyapong’s potential, he describes the Assin North MP as respectful and foresees him as a fantastic president.

Prophet Uche recalls a personal encounter with Kennedy Agyapong during a time when Agyapong and Kweku Annan criticized men of God. Acting on behalf of a fellow pastor under scrutiny, Prophet Uche narrates how Mr Agyapong personally escorted him from his car to his office, emphasizing the respectful nature of the politician.

While acknowledging potential skepticism, Prophet Uche’s predictions have sparked curiosity and speculation about Kennedy Agyapong’s political trajectory among those who believe in prophetic insights.

Kennedy Agyapong’s surprising performance in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries adds fuel to the speculation.

Mr Agyapong garnered over 71,000 votes, securing the second position after Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

His unexpected success in the party’s super delegates conference, where he outperformed anticipated contenders like former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, further adds to the intrigue surrounding Agyapong’s political future.

Tamale South Member of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, has asserted that former President John Dramani Mahama is poised to bring has what it takes to transform Ghana.

Speaking to the media, he emphasized that Ghanaians should overwhelmingly vote for him in the 2024 elections.

During a ceremony where he was conferred with a chieftaincy title, Sugru-Lana, Chief of Patience, by the paramount chief of Nakpanduri, Naba David Kansuk Na Golbila II, MP Haruna Iddrisu lauded Mahama’s unique combination of past presidential experience and his current non-presidential perspective.

He believes this duality will be instrumental in reshaping the trajectory of Ghana’s economy.

“I have said that former President Mahama is coming back to the throne with two important insights and one important hindsight. He has been President, and he is being outside as non-President, and he will combine the two to change the destiny of this country.”

Expressing optimism in Mahama’s ability to effect positive change, the former Minority Leader urged the people in the region to support NDC MPs to contribute to the broader transformation led by Mahama.

“I pledge to continue to exercise utmost restraint and patience in my attempt to contribute to the public interest and overall development of Ghana,” Haruna Iddrisu affirmed.

I never slapped Annoh-Dompreh; have you seen me fight in Parliament? – K.T. Hammond

The Member of Parliament for the Adansi Asokwa constituency, KT Hammond, recently addressed a viral video showing him deflecting Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh during a parliamentary proceeding on December 22, 2023.

The video garnered mixed reactions, with some accusing Mr. Hammond, who also serves as the Minister of Trade, of reacting violently towards his fellow lawmaker.

In response to the video, Hammond conducted a press conference at his residence in Adansi Asokwa, expressing his dismay at the frequent misinterpretation of his comments by people, especially the media.

He criticized the media for consistently misrepresenting his thoughts and comments without delving into the substance, leading to criticisms from various segments of the public.

Providing context to the parliamentary incident, KT Hammond explained that he was called into the chamber by Mr. Annoh-Dompreh to participate in discussions and subsequent voting on the appointment of judges undergoing vetting that day.

“I only made some gesticulations towards him to allow me to make my point regardless of the time constraints. Parliament had spent the whole day discussing other issues, so why was I distracted from making my point to wind up the business of the day?” he questioned.

Due to his relationship with one of the judges, who was his schoolmate at the University of Ghana, he wanted to contribute to the discussions on the floor.

While making his submissions, the Majority Chief Whip attempted to draw his attention, ostensibly due to time constraints.

Mr Hammond stated that he gestured towards Annoh-Dompreh to allow him to make his point quickly amid interjections from the Nsawam-Adoagyir MP.

“I never slapped him. Why would I slap a colleague Member of Parliament? Have you seen me fighting anybody in Parliament as others did during voting for the Speaker of Parliament and other violent scenes in the house?” the Adansi Asokwa lawmaker quizzed.

Mr Hammond refuted claims of being a violent person, emphasizing his non-violent history and the absence of any involvement in violent situations. He insisted that Annoh-Dompreh is one of his close confidants in politics and Parliament, and he would never react violently towards him.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hammond has picked nomination forms to contest the upcoming Parliamentary primaries in his constituency on the New Patriotic Party ticket.

If successful, he will be serving his 7th term in the house. He is expected to face stiff competition from three other aspirants who have already filed their nominations.

Expressing optimism, the legislator mentioned that he is responding to calls from his constituents to seek another term, given his track record of good works. He expressed confidence in getting the nod from the party delegates.

Several experienced Members of Parliament, including Joseph Osei-Owusu, MP for Bekwai, Dan Botwe, MP for Okyere, Samuel Atta Akyea, MP for Akyem Abuakwa South, and Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, have announced their decisions not to contest the upcoming Parliamentary primaries in January.

Mr Hammond highlighted that this would create a void in Parliament and adversely affect the quality of work in the legislative body.

He emphasized that replacing these experienced MPs would be a daunting task for the party.

Akosombo Dam Spillage: Government has concluded resettlement proceedings for victims – Volta Regional Minister

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, has shared that the government’s inter-ministerial committee, assigned to tackle the aftermath of the recent Akosombo Dam spillage disaster in the Lower Volta basin, has pinpointed suitable lands for the relocation of displaced residents in the affected communities.

The disaster took a toll on thousands of locals, especially children and the elderly, in the three Tongu districts of the region.

Various charitable institutions and organizations, including CitiTV/CitiFM, have been contributing relief items to assist those affected by the spillage.

As a result of the disaster, more than 30,000 individuals have been displaced, seeking shelter in public schools, relocating to nearby communities, or residing with relatives and friends.

For over a month, homes, schools, businesses, farms, and shops remained submerged, with the floodwaters only recently receding in the affected communities.

Numerous affected residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the perceived delay by the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the government in promptly resettling them.

Speaking at a press conference in Ho on Thursday (28 December), Minister Letsa affirmed that the government has completed the resettlement proceedings, designating specific lands in the Mepe and New-Bakpa areas for development.

“We’ve identified some places in New Bakpa and some places in Mepe for the resettlement.

“We’re receiving support from the United Nations and other organizations, including the private sector, the construction sector, and other organizations that are assisting us,” the minister confirmed.

“We’ve identified some places in New Bakpa and some places in Mepe for the resettlement,” confirmed the minister.

He added that international bodies and non-governmental organizations are collaborating with the government to execute the resettlement project.

“We’re receiving support from the United Nations and other organizations, including the private sector, the construction sector, and other organizations that are assisting us.”

Although the education of children in the affected communities suffered significantly, Letsa assured that the government has addressed educational challenges, stating, “almost all the children are back in school.”

Your efforts to underplay 2023 WASSCE results is uncalled for – Oppong-Nkrumah tells Mahama

Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, has expressed profound disappointment over former President, John Dramani Mahama’s recent remarks, which downplayed the success of the Free SHS program.

Addressing journalists during the Christmas festivities in Akim Anyinase, Minister Oppong-Nkrumah criticized Mahama for undermining the accomplishments of SHS graduates.

“It is disheartening to observe how Former President Mahama will go all lengths to belittle the Free SHS program and its results simply because it didn’t emanate from him,” stated Minister Oppong Nkrumah.

The recently released 2023 WASSCE results, considered the best since 2015, have been attributed to the positive impact of the Free SHS policy. However, former President Mahama, during his country tour, discredited the outcome of the examination pointing to malpractices and students conniving with teachers to cheat.

Reacting to Mr. Mahama’s claims, the Ofoase Ayirebi legislator found his accusations of malpractices and cheating “shocking and disappointing,” emphasizing that such remarks disregard the hard work and accomplishments of the students who benefited from the initiative.

“While he may not like the entire SHS program, he shouldn’t try so hard to denigrate the beneficiaries. Yes, the program may have some challenges, but to say that even the exceptional success of the students is fake is just amazing,” the Minister added.

Minister Oppong Nkrumah recounted the stiff opposition from Mahama and the NDC to the Free SHS programme, emphasizing that the former President’s comments are a continuation of that stance.

This, he urged constructive discussions to improve the Free SHS initiative and enhance the education sector, emphasizing that Ghana would be better served with ideas rather than attempts to undermine the efforts and achievements of the beneficiaries.

Joint anti-corruption effort by OSP, Judiciary commending – GBA

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has emphasized that the recent joint declaration by the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Judicial Service underscores a strong commitment to the anti-corruption cause.

The Public Relations Officer of the GBA, Saviour Kudze, expressed in an interview that the collaboration represents a positive development, signaling a renewed dedication to the fight against corruption and related activities.

“I’m using the word renewed because all along, they’ve been collaborating, they’ve been committed to the course of fighting corruption and corruption-related activities. This is the way we think we should go,” he said.

Kudze emphasized the importance of collaboration and engagement rather than adversarial approaches, while noting that court rules and procedures must still be observed.

The joint commitment between the Judicial Service of Ghana and the Office of the Special Prosecutor, officially announced on Wednesday, aims at suppressing corruption through a collaborative enforcement of the law and ensuring fair hearings for all stakeholders in the criminal justice system.

This collaborative effort comes in response to concerns raised by Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng, regarding what he perceived as unfair rulings on suspected corruption and corruption-related cases.

Mr Agyebeng argued that dismissals of politically exposed cases by judges pose a significant challenge to the fight against corruption.

Following engagements with various stakeholders, including the Ghana Bar Association, the two institutions stressed the essential roles of the Judiciary and the OSP in combating corruption and corruption-related activities.

In response to the joint declaration, former MP for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, highlighted the significance of this unified effort in the country’s anti-corruption endeavors.

He emphasized the judiciary’s concerns, their acknowledgment of necessary actions, and their commitment to collaborating through established institutions and procedures in the fight against corruption.

St Kizito SHTS receives donations from Knight Piésold Ghana

As a demonstration of its corporate social responsibility, Knight Piésold Ghana, an engineering and environmental consulting firm, has made a donation to St Kuzuti Senior High Technical School in Mepe, located in the Volta Region.

This donation is part of Knight Piésold’s Schools Initiative Programme (SIP), which recently provided study desks and stationery to St Kizito Senior High School in Mepe.

The initiative aims to support local communities, particularly those affected by the devastating flooding caused by the Akosombo Dam Spillage.

In October 2023, excess water from the Akosombo Dam was released to protect the dam’s integrity, impacting communities like Mepe. St Kizito SHTS served as a refuge during this period.

Recognizing the school’s needs, Knight Piésold dedicated this year’s SIP to address the shortage of furniture. The company donated fifty desks and chairs, along with other stationery items, to the school.

During the presentation, Mr. Kofi Dadzie, the Human Resource and Administration Manager of Knight Piésold Ghana Ltd., emphasized the company’s acknowledgment of education’s crucial role and the necessity to aid the school facing challenges due to hosting flood victims.

The headmaster expressed gratitude, urging other corporate entities to follow Knight Piésold’s example. This donation exemplifies the company’s commitment to making a positive impact beyond its professional services, emphasizing the belief that investing in education is foundational for sustainable development and community resilience.

Knight Piésold’s flagship CSR program, the Schools Initiative Program (SIP), aims to introduce high school students to engineering as a career option, inspiring a new generation of civil and geotechnical engineers. The program also provides support to government-assisted senior high schools.

In previous years, the company organized practical civil engineering competitions among senior high schools, fostering an appreciation for engineering and offering support to the best-performing school.

Knight Piésold Ghana Limited specializes in providing engineering and environmental services to the mining and oil and gas industries in Ghana and the West African sub-region.

NPP Primaries: Controller and Accountant-General has the right to contest – Director of Communications

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has emphasized that there is no hindrance to Controller and Accountant-General’s, Kwaning-Bosompem, participation in the parliamentary primary, citing his unique status as a government appointee rather than a traditional civil servant.

Mr. Ahiagbah, speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, December 30, addressed the call for Mr. Kwaning-Bonsompem’s resignation by stating, “His situation is unique; nothing precludes him from running on the ticket of the NPP.”

Contrary to this perspective, the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) has insisted on the Controller and Accountant General’s resignation, asserting that his involvement in partisan politics violates Civil Service regulations.

Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Isaac Bampoe Addo, highlighted the Supreme Court’s Neutrality Act 2017 ruling, which prohibits civil servants from engaging in active partisan politics while in active service.

Mr. Bosompem, despite the controversy, collected nomination forms on December 20 to contest in the NPP’s parliamentary primaries in the Akim Swedru Constituency.

Mr. Bampoe Addo cited the Supreme Court’s ruling and stressed the need for civil servants to maintain political neutrality while in service.
