Alan was overly pampered in the party; you are not entitled to any position – Kate Gyamfua fires

National Women’s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua has delivered a strong caution to Alan Kyerematen regarding his decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections.

During an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Show on May 3, 2024, Gyamfua expressed her concerns about what she viewed as Alan’s lack of appreciation for the party that had supported his political journey for more than fifteen years.

She emphasized the perceived betrayal of Alan’s departure to establish his own movement, citing his long history within the NPP as a minister during both President Kufuor and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administrations.

“If I see an NPP member who has abandoned the party I get worried, look at the people who have gone to form the Afranfranto Movement.

“During President Kufuor’s time, you were a minister for 8 years, and during Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure, you served as a minister for seven years. That’s a total of 15 years. And yet, you just turn your back on the party because the members didn’t vote for you during the primaries.

“Not that you were cheated or Bawumia went unopposed and you just decided to stand against your government. Karma is real and God will judge us all,” Kate Gyamfua stated.

Gyamfua highlighted the significance of loyalty to the party and criticized what she saw as Alan’s entitlement to the party’s top position based on his tenure.

She pointed out that Alan’s decision to contest independently stemmed from his belief that he deserved the highest position within the party without the necessary competition.

“Alan was overly pampered in the party, like a baby, that made him feel as if he is entitled to the seat. But even royal positions are fought for,” she added.

Gyamfua concluded by expressing her hope that Alan Kyerematen would reconsider his stance and return to the NPP fold.

Businesses readying to leave Ghana over harsh economy – FABAG

The General Secretary of the Food and Beverages Association (FABAG), Samuel Aggrey, has revealed a troubling trend, more businesses in Ghana are eyeing exits and slashing their workforce as they grapple with the harsh economic climate.

Speaking on the PM Express Business Edition with host George Wiafe on May 2, 2024, Aggrey emphasized the gravity of the situation.

Aggrey warned that without government intervention to address their concerns, these businesses have no choice but to relocate.

He cited ongoing challenges such as the persistent depreciation of the cedi and insufficient support for local firms facing competition from cheap imports.

“The situation is getting very bad, most of these firms have to comprehend , with unreliable utility supply,” Aggrey warned.

Highlighting the urgency of the issue, Aggrey noted the detrimental effects of unreliable utility supplies on businesses.

He expressed concern over firms feeling compelled to leave due to the unfavorable economic environment, despite efforts to engage with government agencies.

Echoing these sentiments, Senior Economist Prof. Robert Darko Osei from the Institute of Statistics Social and Economic Research (ISSER) emphasized the profit-driven nature of businesses.

Osei stressed that businesses will naturally seek environments where profitability is assured.

“We should understand that for most of these businesses, it’s all about the profit and if the situation is not good for them in a country they operate, then they have to take some action”. “We should also understand that most of these moves have been influenced by the economic environment and how it is impacting on their operations”, he added.

Osei criticized the excessive tax burden on businesses, emphasizing that over taxation is not a sustainable solution for Ghana’s economic woes.

“As a country we should realize that we cannot tax ourselves out of the current economic situation.

“If we want to keep these businesses, then we need to look at the tax system going forward”, he advised.

However, he expressed hope that adherence to International Monetary Fund (IMF) programs could pave the way for stability and create a more favorable climate for businesses.

The discussion underscored the need for strategic policy decisions to signal government commitment to addressing business concerns and fostering a conducive environment for sustainable growth.

Osei emphasized the importance of prioritizing policies that stabilize the economy and reduce the cost of doing business to retain and attract investments in Ghana.

“Policy Prioritization is also very important in these times, to send some signals to these companies that government is committed to dealing with their issues,” he said.

He emphasized that Ghana has recently acquired poles to finalize ongoing projects in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

Renowned Ghanaian gospel artist Nacee advised the public to take musicians’ criticisms of award schemes with a grain of salt.

Emphasizing their emotional nature, he suggested that their complaints, particularly when not nominated, should not be taken too seriously.

Nacee, speaking on the significance of music award schemes like the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) on its 25th anniversary, noted that while artists can be critical, they also cherish their accolades, especially internationally.

“As musicians, we are very emotional beings. Every time the nominee list comes out, we criticize it and make the scheme feel as if it has done nothing in our circles.

“But when we go outside Ghana, we go on interviews and we are asked if we, as musicians, have won any awards, we feel proud to say, ‘Yes, I have won so, so, and so awards.

“We are very emotional. As an artiste, you can be nominated, but if you see some categories in which you were expecting to be nominated and you are not in there, you will still complain. So, they shouldn’t listen to us,” he said.

Acknowledging the challenges of organizing such events, Nacee urged corporate support for award schemes like the TGMAs, applauding their efforts over the past 25 years.

“I think the scheme has done very, very well. We just have to encourage them, and the corporate world should support them because it’s not easy to organise a program. For them to go through this kind of coaching and directing for 25 years, we applaud them,” he said.

Wearing Indian hair is bad luck- Ajagurajah advises women

Bishop Kwabena Asiamah, popularly known as Ajagurajah and leader of the Ajagurajah Movement, has issued a caution to women regarding the use of wigs and hair extensions sourced from foreign countries.

During an interview on Hitz FM on April 2, 2024, Ajagurajah asserted that utilizing such hair products could bring about misfortune for the wearer.

He emphasized the spiritual processes involved in obtaining hair from women in other countries, suggesting that these processes could attract negative energies.

The Bishop attributed this trend to Africans’ inclination towards foreign goods and their failure to embrace their natural hair, citing it as a reason for the alleged negative repercussions of using foreign hair products.

He remarked, “If you’re the type to go for Indian hair, you are putting bad luck on yourself. Indian women hardly cut their hair. They only do that when there’s something wrong. When the priests cut the hair of these women in India, they transfer all those problems into the hair.

“But they know the African mindset; they know we like hair from other countries, and we go for it,” he added.

Ajagurajah urged women to cherish and embrace their natural hair, discouraging the use of extensions and wigs made from hair sourced from other countries.

  • Director of imaginary Keta Port enjoys full salary, mouthwatering perks at taxpayers’ expense – Ablakwa

Director of imaginary Keta Port enjoys full salary, mouthwatering perks at taxpayers’ expense – Ablakwa

North Tongu MP Okudzeto Ablakwa has uncovered a significant issue regarding the purported Keta Port project.

Through a Twitter post, Ablakwa revealed that substantial government funds have been directed towards constructing an administration block for a port that does not yet exist.

The documents intercepted by Ablakwa show a noteworthy allocation approved by the Ghanaian government, specifically for the administration block of the Keta Port.

This revelation has raised questions about the rationale behind such funding, especially given President Akufo-Addo’s earlier suggestions of progress on the Keta Port.

Ablakwa’s scrutiny extends to the appointment of a director for a port that remains imaginary.

Ablakwa pointed out that this director has been receiving salaries, allowances, and other benefits for more than five years, despite the absence of tangible progress on the Keta Port.

In a statement shared on Twitter, Ablakwa stated, “After President Akufo-Addo infamously appointed a Director of the non-existent Keta Port in March 2019, latest intercepted documents reveal that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration after 5 years is now allocating funds for the construction of an Administration Block (not the actual port). Meanwhile, the Director of the imaginary Keta Port, Alexander Yaw Adusei Jnr., has been enjoying full salaries, allowances, official vehicles, and other mouthwatering perks of office at taxpayer expense for more than 5 years when already employed experienced staff of GPHA could have overseen the establishment of the Keta Port.”

Ablakwa’s findings highlight concerns about the utilization of public funds and the management of infrastructure projects in Ghana.

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Okudzeto Ablakwa, has brought to light a concerning development regarding the supposed Keta Port project.

Ablakwa shared on his Twitter account that a significant amount of funding allocated by the Ghanaian government is directed towards constructing an administration block for the non-existent port.

Ablakwa raised questions about the motives behind this allocation, especially considering President Akufo-Addo‘s previous statements implying the existence of the Keta Port.

He criticised the appointment of a director for a port that does not physically exist, noting that this director has been receiving salaries, allowances, and other benefits for over five years.

In a statement on Twitter, Ablakwa highlighted, “After President Akufo-Addo infamously appointed a Director of the non-existent Keta Port in March 2019, latest intercepted documents reveal that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration after 5 years is now allocating funds for the construction of an Administration Block (not the actual port).

NDC can never win election with over 58% in this country; I’ll commit suicide – Salam Mustapha

The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha made bold assertions regarding the electoral prospects of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mustapha’s remarks were notably daring and focused on the potential outcomes of the upcoming general elections.

During the interview, Mustapha confidently stated that there is no conceivable scenario in which the NDC could secure a victory by a significant margin.

He emphasised that historical data and trends strongly support his position, particularly highlighting the performance of current President Nana Akufo-Addo as a benchmark.

According to Mustapha, Akufo-Addo stands out as the only NPP candidate who has managed to achieve a substantial margin of 54% in an election, indicating widespread support for the party under his leadership.

In contrast, Mustapha argued that the NDC has never demonstrated the ability to command such overwhelming numbers at the polls.

In a particularly dramatic declaration, Mustapha asserted that the NDC’s chances of winning an election in Ghana are practically non-existent if they fail to secure a huge margin over 58%.

“The NDC can never win an election in this country over 58%. If they do, I will commit suicide. It’s only Akufo-Addo who has commanded such numbers. There is data to prove my statements,” Salam Mustapha stated.

Mustapha further supported his claims by referencing data that purportedly validates his statements, suggesting that statistical evidence and historical patterns back up his assertions regarding the electoral landscape in Ghana.

Wife of Kumawood actor Oteele, Gifty has opened up about her husband’s dramatic weight loss and debilitating illness, shrouded in mystery.

The distressing saga began three years into their marriage, following their union in 2019.

Gifty shared with Zionfelix the harrowing details of Oteele’s health crisis, which persisted until roughly 2022.

“Three years into our marriage, my husband fell critically ill. Within a short span, he drastically lost weight and became extremely frail. Initially, he could consume up to fifteen bottles of water daily, but soon, he couldn’t even finish one,” she recounted.

Describing the severity of his condition, she added, “His urine resembled a blend of Malta Guinness and ink. He lost mobility, appetite, and became bedridden, requiring constant care.”

Gifty expressed her despair, questioning if this was a repercussion of past grievances.

Despite numerous medical consultations and tests indicating normalcy, a definitive diagnosis eluded them.

“We visited countless hospitals, underwent numerous tests, all in vain. It felt like a divine mystery. People suggested alternative treatments as his condition worsened. At times, he needed multiple IV drips simultaneously,” she revealed.

Celebrity couple Kim Kardashian and Odell Beckham Jr., whose relationship sparked dating rumors in September last year, have officially ended their romance.

According to insiders close to the couple who spoke to PEOPLE magazine, the relationship has quietly simmered down and concluded without much fanfare.

The SKIMS entrepreneur, 43, and the 31-year-old Baltimore Ravens wide receiver were last seen together at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March 2024.

Tiktok, Universal Music Group reach an agreement, Stonebwoy, others songs back on TikTok

TikTok and Universal Music Group have ended their royalties dispute, a relief for fans of various African artists under the label.

This disagreement began when TikTok removed all Universal Music Group’s licensed music on February 1, citing failed negotiations.

Universal Music Group had accused TikTok of unfair royalty practices and had concerns about the platform’s promotion of AI-generated recordings and music creation tools.

However, a recent announcement indicates that the conflict has been resolved, with TikTok agreeing to significant changes, including better compensation for artists starting in May.

Sir Lucian Grainge, Universal’s CEO, highlighted in an email to staff that this new agreement would result in greater compensation for artists and songwriters compared to the previous deal with TikTok.

While both companies are swiftly working to reinstate Universal’s music on TikTok, it’s estimated to take about two weeks to restore audio to previously muted videos.
Universal Music Group, known for owning some of the largest music catalogues globally, including subsidiaries, has notably expanded its presence in the African music industry with signings like Stonebwoy.

The return of artists like Stonebwoy, Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi, Sauti Sol, Techno, Nasty C, Vanessa Mdee, Youssou N’Dour, and others to TikTok marks a significant moment for Africa’s music industry.

This resolution also means the revival of African music impacted by the ban, such as the official song for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), ‘Akwaba.’

The actress expressed her disinterest in reprising her previous role as “Serwaa,” citing a desire for a more challenging role.

She said in a recent interview on TV3’s “The Afternoon Show “I declined taking the role of Serwaa… I believed so much in myself that back then I did not know that as an actor, I had to go through that process. I wanted to play the role of Emily, but I was told to act as Serwaa, and I didn’t want to because I was selling bread for my mother even before coming to Accra, so why would I be doing the same in a movie?”

Nketiah emphasised that this was an opportunity for Akufo-Addo and the NPP to rectify their actions before facing consequences.

“… they still have time to return all the looted funds or hold onto them and face the consequences. So, those who can communicate with NPP people, let them know that it is our duty to save this country, and one of the ways to save this country is to take over power and hold each and every office bearer accountable for their stewardship,” he said.

Black Sherif’s growth is as a result of feud between Shatta and Stonebwoy – Ajagurajah

During a live interview with Hitz FM on May 2, 2024, Bishop Kwabena Asiamah, popularly known as Ajagurajah, the leader of the Ajagurajah Movement, stirred controversy by asserting that emerging musicians like Black Sherif owe their success to the ongoing feud between Ghanaian music heavyweights Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.

Ajagurajah suggested that Black Sherif, also known as Blacko, should be thankful that the rift between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy exists, as it has contributed significantly to the attention and fanbase growth of rising artists.

According to Ajagurajah, Black Sherif’s listeners largely consist of fans of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, implying that without the feud, Black Sherif and other emerging talents would struggle to gain prominence in the music industry.

“Blacko should be happy and praise God that Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are not friends.

“Black Sherif does not have his own listeners. His listeners are comprised of Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale’s fans.

“The other artists are only rising because those two are fighting. If Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy patch up, no other musician will see the limelight,” he said.

Furthermore, Ajagurajah attributed the feud between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale to spiritual influences, claiming that territorial spirits in Ashaiman and Nima, the respective hometowns of Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, are at odds, preventing reconciliation between the two artists.

“Whether Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy like it or not, they are the face of Ghanaian music.

“The spirits that hover over Ashaiman and Nima do not see eye-to-eye. Shatta Wale is the king of Nima. Stonebwoy is the king of Ashaiman. They cannot meet eye-to-eye,” he claimed.
While acknowledging the significant roles both Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy play in shaping Ghanaian music, Ajagurajah’s comments have sparked discussions about the dynamics of success and rivalry within the country’s music scene.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs attorneys seek to throw out portions of sexual assault, ‘revenge porn’ civil suit

Attorneys representing Sean “Diddy” Combs, the renowned music executive and entrepreneur also known as Puff Daddy or P. Diddy, have filed a motion urging a New York court to dismiss parts of a civil suit accusing him of sexual assault and revenge porn.

The suit, brought by Joi Dickerson-Neal, alleges that Combs intentionally drugged and sexually assaulted her in 1991 when she was a college student.

Additionally, it claims that Combs filmed the assault and shared it with others.

Combs’ legal team argued that certain aspects of the suit should be dismissed due to procedural issues, including allegations brought under statutes that did not exist at the time of the alleged misconduct and claims against Combs’ company, Bad Boy Records, which did not exist at the time of the incident.

A spokesperson for Combs has previously dismissed the allegations as “made up and not credible,” attributing them to a “money grab.”

This legal development comes amid six separate civil lawsuits against Combs regarding sexual assault or related allegations, one of which has been settled.

Combs has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Recent federal searches of Combs’ properties in Los Angeles and Miami, reportedly related to an ongoing sex trafficking investigation, have drawn criticism from his attorney as an excessive use of force.

Representatives for Combs declined to comment further on the latest legal motion.

Reduce importation of goods to stabilize the cedi – TUC boss to Ghanaians

Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah has advocated for reduction of import dependence and embracing local products to stabilize the cedi against global currencies.

At the 2024 National May Day Parade themed “Election 2024: The Role of Workers and Social Partners in Securing Peaceful Elections for National Development,” Dr Baah highlighted the cedi’s 250% depreciation since 2016, attributing it to overreliance on imports.

He said “because of our over-reliance on imported goods  whose prices were directly affected by the exchange rate of the cedi in terms of the major international currencies such as the US dollar and the pound sterling.”

This trend, he noted, severely impacts living standards, emphasising the urgent need for change.

Leaders, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and representatives from various sectors, convened at the Independence Square in Accra for the event.

Dr Baah stressed that the current exchange rate of GH¢14 to $1, compared to GH¢4 to $1 in 2016, significantly reduces purchasing power, exacerbating the challenges faced by workers in meeting basic needs.

    SSNIT

He also said the labour front had some concerns about the activities of the SSNIT and, therefore, called on President Akufo-Addo for dialogue about their concerns.

    May Day

The day is marked as a holiday to celebrate the contributions of workers to national development and nation-building. The May Day celebration has been a platform for workers to directly advocate better conditions of service and bring up other work-related issues.

This year’s event was marked on the theme: “Election 2024: The Role of Workers and Social Partners in Securing Peaceful Elections for National Development”. The organisation of the celebration, which was led by the Trades Union Congress (TUC), saw workers in Accra converge on the Black Star Square.

We’re against attempts by the Education Ministry to change uniforms – Institutional Suppliers

The National Association of Institutional Suppliers has pledged to oppose the Education Ministry‘s proposed changes to public schools and the introduction of new school uniforms.

In a statement released on May 2, 2024, the association underscored its determination to push back against any government action that jeopardizes the job security of its members.

Expressing serious concerns, the association pointed out the government’s recent decision to centralize suppliers for both basic and senior high schools, a move they argue is detrimental to their businesses.

The association stated that many of its members have suffered financial setbacks and closures due to these policies.

The statement, signed by National Secretary Amoah Talhir, emphasized that while the Free SHS program aimed to ease financial burdens on parents, it should not come at the expense of small and medium-sized enterprises, as they allege is happening under the Ministry of Education’s directives.

“The fact remains that the Free SHS programme was meant to reduce the burden of parents but not to collapse small and medium scale businesses to add to the critical unemployment situation as being perpetuated by the Ministry of Education now. It is worth knowing that our membership of over 200 is spread across all the regions of the country.

“Our husbands, wives, workers, children, and other dependents are voters and also Ghanaians who have the right to live. Any attempt this time to introduce any policy that will go further to render our members jobless will be fiercely resisted.

“We urge the powers that be to bring the Minister to order to refrain from the dubious contracts that benefit only him and his cronies.

“He must remember that very soon, the masks of all such companies will be unveiled, and the relationships between the Minister and them will be uncovered too,” the statement read.

Akufo-Addo has done nothing to rescue Ghana’s economic fortunes from ruins – Kofi Kapito fires

Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kofi Kapito has voiced concerns about Ghana’s economic situation, stating that it is far from satisfactory.

Speaking on Angel FM’s show, Kapito disagreed with a statement praising President Akufo-Addo as the hardest-working leader Ghana has had.

He dismissed this assertion as baseless.

Kapito highlighted the challenges faced by ordinary Ghanaians, citing a personal experience of buying a roasted plantain.

He noted that during the Mahama administration, the same plantain cost GHC3, whereas under Akufo-Addo, it has surged to GHC5.

This price hike, according to Kapito, reflects the overall difficulty of the current economic climate.

“The economy is in really bad condition in the Akufo-Addo era. Things are extremely expensive. How can a plantain which sold for GHC3 in the Mahama era now go for 5GHC in Akufo-Addo era. He has messed up the economy,” Kofi Kapito stated.

His comments have sparked online debates, with many noting his shift from being a vocal critic of the previous administration to expressing concerns about the current government’s economic performance.
