  • I will rather invest in my soul than have cosmetic surgery – Celestine Donkor

I will rather invest in my soul than have cosmetic surgery – Celestine Donkor

Ghanaian gospel sensation Celestine Donkor has addressed recent rumors about her considering weight loss surgery, firmly denying any plans for such a procedure.

Speaking out against societal pressures and emphasizing self-acceptance, Donkor highlighted the importance of prioritizing health and rejecting unrealistic beauty standards.

During an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio, Donkor clarified that while she acknowledges the pressure to conform to certain appearance norms, she prioritises her well-being.

“I am plus size but very active. I might even overtake a lot of slim people in a marathon. The fat is in my genes, my family, we are big. I have never had high blood pressure or anything. I do regular check-ups and drink a lot of water, and I have enough rest, so health-wise, I am fine.”

She mentioned her active lifestyle, regular health check-ups, and family history of being plus-sized but healthy, countering assumptions that her weight poses serious health risks.

Furthermore, Donkor expressed her aversion to surgical interventions, citing her fear of knives and previous experiences with incisions during childbirth.

“I can confidently say here that personally if I have GH¢40,000 or GH¢50,000 to work on this body, I will invest in my soul. This body will perish, no matter how slim and nicely carved it is.

“The worthless creature after death is the human body; even animal body has value because we use them as food, but for humans, the body is no longer worthy than to be trashed.”

Instead of opting for surgery, she advocates for healthier alternatives like dieting, exercise, and intermittent fasting.

Despite offers of financial support for surgery, Donkor reiterated her commitment to investing in her spiritual and mental well-being rather than altering her physical appearance.

She urged her fans to accept her as she is, rejecting societal pressures and affirming her stance on self-love and body positivity.

IPPs to supply GRIDCo with 100MW in coming days

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) is expected to receive about 100 megawatts of power supply from the Independent Power Producers (IPP’s) Ghana, in the coming days to reduce power outages.

This anticipated increase is set to significantly bolster the country’s power generation capacity.

West Coast Gas Ghana Limited’s recent release indicates a strategic redirection of gas supply to specific power plants.

This move aims to optimise operations and deliver a heightened level of generation across the nation.

The statement elaborated on the plan, stating, “A portion of the gas currently supplied to TICO by VRA will be redirected to Cenpower to enable full combined cycle operations. Additionally, VRA will divert gas from Kpone Thermal Power Plant to Sunon Asogli Phase 1 for full combined cycle functionality.”

This shift reflects a more efficient utilization of natural gas resources, prioritizing combined cycle plants over simple cycle ones based on existing gas supply constraints and the availability of thermal plants.

Nollywood actor, Williams Uchemba, known for his roles in Nollywood films, recently spoke out about his decision to stop going to public gyms due to what he described as women‘s indecent exposure there.

He expressed concern about the temptation it poses and his desire to “make heaven.”

Consequently, he has set up a gym at home to avoid such distractions.

In a plea directed at women at the gym, Uchemba urged them to dress decently to prevent leading men into temptation.

He highlighted that the trend of indecent dressing at gyms is becoming increasingly concerning and emphasized the need for a more respectful attire choice in such spaces.

Taking to social media, Uchemba addressed the issue directly, questioning whether men should altogether avoid gyms due to this ongoing problem.

“Ladies, should all the men stop coming to the gym? Because your indecent dressing is getting out of hand. It’s becoming appalling. I’m tired.

“Please, try and dress decently to the gym. Some men are determined to make heaven, please don’t distract us. Every time one comes to the gym, he is forced to see what he didn’t intend to see.

“You ladies have made up your mind to prevent Nigerian men from going to heaven but it won’t work because I’ve left the gym. I’ve set up a gym in my house because I cannot cope. I want to make heaven.”

He stressed the importance of not distracting those who are focused on spiritual matters, echoing his personal commitment to creating an environment free from such distractions by having a private gym setup.

The actor’s remarks have sparked discussions about appropriate gym attire and respect for others’ boundaries in public spaces, emphasizing the balance between personal expression and consideration for those around us.

Marriages are struggling in dumsor – A-plus

Popular activist Kwame A Plus has highlighted the impact of Ghana‘s ongoing power crisis  on marriages.

He recently shared a video featuring Kenyan MP Babu Iwino, who expressed how unstable power supply affects relationships, citing that “couples cannot see the process of lovemaking.”

This concern isn’t new. A few months back, Babu Iwino raised similar issues in Kenya’s parliament, lamenting the combination of erratic power supply and high electricity costs.

He pointed out that these factors put a strain on marriages, stating, “Marriage cannot be sweet and successful when the cost of electricity is high. Even in the process of lovemaking, you need to see what you are eating.”

“Marriage cannot be sweet and successful when the cost of electricity is high. Even in the process of lovemaking, you need to see what you are eating. So, when the cost of electricity is high, you will be so depressed and you can’t even deliver because when the lights are on and the cost is high then you can’t deliver well. It’s breaking marriages.”

With Ghana facing its own electricity challenges, A Plus has amplified Babu Iwino’s stance, urging people to pay attention.

“Please loud am well well. How can marriages survive in dumsor when people are not seeing what they are eating?” A Plus emphasised, drawing attention to the broader social impacts of the power crisis.

Individuals with dual citizenship can become Chief Justice, Chief Directors – Supreme Court

The Supreme Court in a landmark decision has struck down key provisions of the Citizenship Act, 2000 (ACT 581), prohibiting dual citizens from holding top government positions.

The ruling, with a decisive 6-1 majority, deems these restrictions unconstitutional, citing conflict with Article 289(2) of the 1992 Constitution.

The invalidated sections of the Citizenship Act, specifically 16(2)(a) and 16(2)(h)-(l), had barred individuals with dual citizenship from roles such as Chief Justice, Commissioner of the Value Added Tax Service, Director-General of the Prisons Service, Chief Fire Officer, Chief Director of a Ministry, or holding the rank of Colonel in the army or other security services.

The case, titled ‘Francis Osei-Bonsu v The Attorney General,’ brought to light the argument that these sections effectively amended the constitution, violating Article 289(2).

The plaintiff, represented by Bright Okyere-Adjekum Esq., successfully contended that such restrictions infringed upon the fundamental principles outlined in the constitution.

With this ruling, individuals with dual citizenship are now eligible for these significant government positions, marking a significant shift in Ghanaian law and governance.

The effect of the decision is that persons who are dual citizens contrary to the dictates of section 16 of the Citizenship Act can now be appointed to positions or offices.

    They  include;

    1. Chief Justice,

    2. Commissioner of the Value Added Tax Service;

    3. Director-General of the Prisons Service the Chief Fire Officer,

    4. a Chief Director of a Ministry the rank of a Colonel in the Army or its equivalent in the other security services.

Energy and Finance Ministries must provide funding to address energy crisis – IES

The Institute for Energy Security (IES) is calling on the Energy and Finance Ministries to swiftly provide the necessary funds to address the current hurdles facing Ghana’s energy sector.

The institute highlighted that the sector’s challenges stem largely from inadequate liquidity for purchasing fuel needed to operate some power plants at full capacity, emphasising that the ministries must take decisive action to resolve this issue.

Additionally, the IES reiterated its plea for the government to equip ECG (Electricity Company of Ghana) with resources to reduce technical and commercial losses, deploy more smart metres capable of detecting theft, and establish an efficient distribution system to boost revenue generation.

Fulfilling these objectives, according to the IES, is crucial for ECG to fulfil its mission of delivering quality, reliable, and safe electricity services to bolster Ghana’s economic growth and development.

The institute’s recommendation follows recent sanctions imposed by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) against ECG for regulatory breaches.

Nana Amoasi VII, Executive Director of IES, stressed the urgency of addressing liquidity challenges, which have hindered scheduled maintenance of power plants and led to outages.

“We expect the Ministry of Energy to coordinate and work with the Ministry of Finance to find alternative funding sources to deal with the challenge, thus, to procure fuel to get some of the power plants online,” Nana Amoasi VII said.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Nana Amoasi VII emphasised the need for the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Finance to collaborate on finding alternative funding sources to tackle these challenges effectively.

Regarding PURC’s sanctions against ECG, Amoasi noted the necessity of such actions to signal the regulator’s commitment to enforcing industry rules.

“The current action is consistent with the oversight responsibility that PURC must have over the industry,” he said and encouraged ECG to oblige with the orders of the Regulator.

He urged ECG to comply with PURC’s directives and cautioned that further sanctions could follow if payment obligations were not met.

PURC’s recent order for ECG to pay GHS446,283,706.29 by April 30 to ‘Category B’ beneficiaries highlights the seriousness of the situation.

This directive came after ECG failed to settle shortfalls owed to beneficiaries from August 2023 to February 2024 by the stipulated deadline.

Mr. Ishmael Edjekumhene from PURC confirmed that ECG had not updated them on any progress regarding payment or negotiations related to the sanctions.

Amidst these challenges, Mr. Sam Dubik Mahama, Managing Director of ECG, stressed the importance of prompt bill payments by consumers to boost revenue and improve operational efficiency.

Looking ahead, the Energy Commission’s 2024 Energy Outlook for Ghana underscores the critical need for investment in the energy and electricity sub-sector, particularly emphasising improved gas supply reliability.

“The government should expedite action on the proposed construction of gas pipeline connecting Tema and Tarkoradi power enclaves,” the Commission recommended.

The Commission recommended expediting the construction of a gas pipeline connecting Tema and Tarkoradi power stations to enhance supply security.

Addressing fuel supply adequacy to thermal plants was also highlighted as pivotal to ensuring power supply reliability in the country, with the Energy Commission urging stakeholders to collaborate in securing and maintaining fuel supply consistently.

“In this regard, it is strongly recommended that all stakeholders work together to ensure that the fuel supply is adequate and secure at all times,” the Energy Commission stated in its report.

Many affluent men in Ghana don’t know how to give – Michael Blackson

Ghanaian-American comedian Michael Blackson recently addressed a significant issue he believes contributes to his home country’s challenges, selfishness.

During a conversation with Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM), Blackson shared his perspective, noting, “We have a reputation for being selfish, which is often a factor in the difficulties we face because we struggle with generosity… Many affluent individuals here only prioritize themselves.”

He pointed out the contrast between tax practices in the United States, where high-income earners contribute a substantial portion of their earnings, and Ghana, where the wealthy are not taxed as heavily.

“In the U.S., if you earn a million dollars annually, a significant chunk of that goes to taxes. But here, there’s less of that burden; wealthy individuals aren’t contributing as much,” Blackson remarked.

He emphasised that this presents an opportunity for the affluent to recognize their social obligations and give back to their communities.

“What are you doing for your people? It’s time to wake up and find ways to contribute,” he urged, highlighting the importance of philanthropy.

Blackson’s comments coincided with discussions about his ‘Michael Blackson Academy,’ an initiative offering free education to children in Ghana’s Central Region.

He expressed hope that such endeavours would inspire more wealthy individuals to support the less privileged in their country.

“I hope to open their eyes and encourage a shift in mindset, making everyone more compassionate,” he concluded.

Fame was never my priority – Kofi Sarpong on music journey

Renowned Ghanaian Gospel musician, Kofi Sarpong, recently unveiled the surprising tale of how he was propelled into the music industry against his initial reluctance.

In an exclusive interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning with KMJ, Sarpong recounted his journey from being a dedicated police officer to a celebrated musician, shedding light on the pivotal moments that shaped his career.

Initially, fame was not a priority for Sarpong, given his commitment to his job as a police officer.

He vividly remembered rebuffing his current manager, Kwesi Ernest, who persistently urged him to consider a musical career after a remarkable performance at a church event.

Sarpong’s initial response was rooted in his passion for law enforcement, as he couldn’t fathom pursuing music while serving as a deputy superintendent of police.

“I declined outrightly and told him, ‘you heard my name as deputy superintendent of police. How could that be possible?’ And for me, I love the police. If I’m working and I’m not paid, it would be enough for me. I also wasn’t ready to leave the police. But he persevered,” Sarpong recalled.

Despite his initial resistance, Sarpong’s manager, Kwesi Ernest, remained undeterred and deployed various strategies, even sending multiple individuals to persuade Sarpong.

Eventually, after much persuasion and a formal application to the Inspector General of Police, Sarpong received the green light to pursue music alongside his police duties.

Reflecting on the pivotal moment, Sarpong shared, “He came to see me one day, and I asked him, ‘I’ve seen people holding CDs looking for producers, so why won’t you help them?’ And he told me, ‘Papa, I’ve seen you from afar. You don’t know me, but I know you, and I want the world to see what’s in you, so please give me the opportunity.’”

The approval from the Inspector General of Police marked a turning point for Sarpong, who was initially apprehensive but later relieved when he received confirmation of the approval.

His journey into music officially began when his manager arrived at his doorstep with Akwaboah Jnr, a renowned songwriter, and a piano.

Sarpong fondly remembered, “A few hours later, I heard a knock on my door, and it was him with someone holding a piano following him, and it was Akwaboah Jnr. I asked why, and he said, ‘Papa, we are starting today’.”

This unexpected turn of events led to the creation of Sarpong’s first song, marking the beginning of a successful musical career that intertwines his passion for music and his dedication to law enforcement.

Cameraman drags Megan Thee Stallion to court; claims he was forced to watch her sexual acts

American rapper Megan Thee Stallion is facing legal action from her former cameraman, who alleges that she created a hostile work environment.

Emilio Garcia filed a complaint in Los Angeles, accusing the rap star of subjecting him to uncomfortable situations, including witnessing her engaging in sexual activities.

Garcia’s complaint, obtained by Page Six, details an incident during a tour stop in Ibiza, Spain, in June 2022.

He claims that Megan had sexual relations with another person while they were in an SUV, and he was present during this event as he was working as her personal videographer at the time.

In an interview with NBC News, Garcia expressed his discomfort, stating, “I felt uncomfortable. I was kind of frozen, and I was shocked.”

He also mentioned feeling degraded by comments allegedly made by Megan, including derogatory remarks about his weight and eating habits.

“To hear someone who advocates about loving your body tell me these things, I felt degraded,” he told NBC News of the remarks the “Savage” rapper, whose real name is Megan Pete, allegedly made.

According to Garcia’s claims, Megan changed his payment structure from a fixed monthly rate to a “pay-per-task” system after the Ibiza trip, resulting in a significant decrease in his earnings and job opportunities.

The lawsuit alleges that Garcia suffered emotional distress, financial losses exceeding six figures, and health issues due to the alleged toxic work environment.

“[He] endured a barrage of relentless sexual and fat-shaming comments plunging him into profound emotional distress,” according to the complaint, further claiming the videographer now struggles with “mounting anxiety, depression and physical distress stemming from the toxic work environment.”

The complaint outlines a series of incidents where Garcia alleges he was subjected to sexual and fat-shaming comments, leading to anxiety, depression, and physical distress.

Media Personality Tima Kumkum shares harrowing experience with G6PD deficiency condition

Media Personality Cynthia Tima Yeboah, known as Tima Kumkum, recently revealed a terrifying encounter with death during her pregnancy due to complications from G6PD deficiency.

The media personality shared her journey of ignorance about this condition for 25 years, leading to various health struggles until her pregnancy with her son, Jayden.

Unaware of the risks posed by certain medications, Tima faced a critical situation after contracting an infection during her pregnancy.

Initially dismissing symptoms as common, she eventually faced a life-threatening situation that necessitated emergency surgery to save both her and her baby.

“During my 3rd trimester around almost 40 weeks, I had infection so I went to visit my midwife and she gave me medicine in the afternoon only for me to start bleeding in the night. I was quickly rushed to the hospital and unfortunately pharmacies were on strike then so they kept referring me from Korle-Bu to 37 then finally to Ridge hospital. The doctor told us that if I’m not rushed to a private hospital, I might lose my life and that of the baby because all government hospitals can’t do a CS and my condition required one. I was rushed to Lapaz Community hospital and within a few minutes Jayden came out.”

The harrowing experience prompted Tima to highlight the importance of G6PD awareness and education.

“I realized I almost caused my own death but thank God I was saved last minute. How I survived for the past 25 years of my life without knowing I had the defect and was taking sulfur-based medications and using sulfur-based stuff in my daily life is just a miracle” Tima recounted.

She emphasised the need for testing and understanding the implications of this deficiency, which inspired her to establish the Tima Kumkum Foundation, dedicated to supporting affected individuals and raising awareness about G6PD deficiency.

According to the CLeveland Clinic definition, G6PD is a genetic disorder that happens when your body doesn’t have enough glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) enzyme.

G6PD helps red blood cells work and protects them from harmful substances. G6PD can cause a life-threatening hemolytic anaemia that requires blood transfusions.

  • Why most rappers in Ghana have switched to singing- EL reveals

Why most rappers in Ghana have switched to singing- EL reveals

Music enthusiasts in Ghana are expressing worry about the diminishing presence of the rap genre in the country’s music landscape.

This concern arises from the observation that apart from a few notable Ghanaian rappers who remain committed to traditional rap, many artists are leaning towards singing or a blend of singing and rapping.

Renowned Ghanaian rapper Elom Adablah, popularly known as EL, shed light on the underlying reasons for this shift.

He highlighted the dwindling attention span of Ghanaian music consumers as a key factor contributing to the decreased interest in and production of pure rap music in Ghana.

During an interview with Hitz FM on April 24, 2024, EL pointed out that the current music market favours fast-paced, catchy tunes over intricate lyrical content.

He emphasised that listeners today prioritise enjoyable and danceable songs with memorable lyrics, a trend prevalent not only in Ghana but also across West African countries like Nigeria.

“The markets we are in now, the attention span is very, very, very small. In my opinion, nobody really has the time to listen to a lot of content, a lot of words, within the song. I believe that in this ecosystem in which we’re in right now, people just want to have fun.

“A lot of people just want to listen to a catchy song, catchy lyrics, and a danceable tune. That is the ecosystem in which we are in Ghana, in Nigeria, and in West Africa in general,” EL stated.

Comparing the situation to South Africa, where a thriving rap culture exists, EL noted the absence of a strong foothold for rap music in Ghana’s mainstream industry.

“The rap thing doesn’t really have a foothold here as much as it does in, for example, South Africa, because they have actually built the industry around the rap narrative and they have a market for it,” he said.

He acknowledged the presence of a small rap community in Ghana but suggested that its influence on the broader music market remains limited.

While Ghana does have a niche market for rap enthusiasts, EL expressed doubts about their substantial impact due to the genre’s relatively lesser prominence within the country’s music scene.

“We have a market for rap here, but I don’t think the consumers of hip hop in Ghana, real rap in Ghana, would subscribe deeply to any type of rap coming from Ghana. It’s just a few of us. And the ones that you see out there purportedly doing rap music are not really hooked into the rap community in Ghana.

“So there’s a community in Ghana that appreciates hip hop music, real rap music. But I don’t think you see them coming out to do too much because it’s not a big deal in Ghana. It doesn’t have a foothold here in Ghana,” EL added.

Despite pockets of appreciation for hip hop and real rap music in Ghana, EL hinted at a broader cultural preference for more commercially appealing genres.

EL’s insights shed light on the evolving dynamics within Ghana’s music industry, prompting discussions about the future trajectory of the rap genre and its place in the country’s musical identity.

  • You have complained more than the songs you produced – A-plus fires Akwasi Boateng

You have complained more than the songs you produced – A-plus fires Akwasi Boateng

Renowned entertainment pundit Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A Plus, has shared his thoughts on veteran gospel musician Edward Akwasi Boateng’s recent public criticism of individuals failing to honour their commitments.

A Plus, speaking on the United Showbiz program broadcasted on UTV and monitored by GhanaWeb, responded to the ongoing controversy between Akwasi Boateng and MOGmusic.

He noted that Akwasi Boateng’s outspokenness on unmet promises indicates his seriousness about financial matters.

In a subtle critique, A Plus remarked that Akwasi Boateng’s public comments about his grievances have outnumbered his musical releases, suggesting a deep concern regarding the issue.

He also mentioned that MOGmusic’s extended response to the accusations indicates his discomfort with the situation.

“Akwasi Boateng is not someone to take lightly when it comes to financial issues… He is justified in calling out MOGmusic. Despite the frequency of his comments lately, he should stay composed; things will work out,” A Plus stated.

    Background

Edward Akwasi Boateng complained that his colleague, MOGmusic, failed to fulfil his promise to him some time ago.

He said MOGmusic pledged to support him financially when he made his plight known to the public.

He stated that the promise was supposed to be fulfilled at a programme that was held in Kumasi. However, MOGmusic did not even acknowledge him at the said event.

In an interview with Zionfelix monitored by GhanaWeb, Edward Akwasi Boateng noted that he has not heard from MOGmusic again.

“I was placed on the flyer for the show, indicating that he would support me during the programme, but he never did. I went to greet him after the show, but he [MOGmusic] didn’t say anything,” he said.

In response to the claims, MOGmusic said: “When the programme started, I walked to him [Akwasi Boateng], and we talked… After a while, I looked at his sitting position, and he wasn’t there. I asked my team to look for him, but he was nowhere to be found. Later on, the people who were supposed to be honoured were called on stage and given their plaques. So, it’s not true that he was not acknowledged.

“I had no malice against him. He did not get the support because he was absent during the presentation… I asked my manager to contact him later on, but I was told he [ Akwasi Boateng] was not reachable. We have plans to present the package to him; it’s still available,” he said during the United Showbiz programme.

However, her passion for medicine persisted.

With determination and divine grace, Philipa returned to education later in life, earning a first-class honour in Physician Assistant studies despite being over 40.

“I lost my parents while I was in primary school. My mother also died when I got to SHS. Even though I was a brilliant student, it was tough for me. Aside my calling to do music, I had the passion to become a medical professional.

“After completing high school, I stayed home for a while because things were tough for me after my parents died. Going back to school after age 40 was not easy. But by the grace of God, I completed tertiary successfully with first class honours,” she said in a video shared by Zionfelix on his Instagram page.

Her husband, Dr. Kwame Karikari, highlighted her hiatus from music as she focused on academia, ensuring she stayed relevant and fulfilled both passions.

Now back in the music scene, Philipa’s resilience and talent shine through, marking a triumphant return for this beloved artist.

What Philipa Baafi’s husband said about her long absence in the music industry

Dr. Kwame Karikari, the husband of gospel artiste Philipa Baafi, explained why his wife has not been active in the music industry for quite some time now.

According to him, the gospel artiste had to put her music career on hold to go back to school and upgrade her educational credentials in order not to lose her relevance.

He disclosed that she went to school for four years to study to be a physician assistant.

He announced that his wife, Philipa Baafi, has officially made a comeback to music after the long break.

“Upon completion [of school], she worked on some songs but we were waiting for the appropriate time to make it known, and this is the right moment,” he said in the interview.

Philipa is a well-recognized musician in the country due to the numerous hit songs she has produced, including ‘Go Higher’, ‘I Go Dance’ and others.

I wouldn’t give Edward Akwasi Boateng a penny if I were MOG – Vida Adutwumwaa

Entertainment pundit Vida Adutwumwaa has criticized gospel musician Edward Akwasi Boateng for his unappreciative stance regarding the donations and gifts he has received.

Boateng, who gained attention in 2023 after a video of him selling pen drives and CDs surfaced online, faced backlash for his comments on donations.

The veteran gospel musician, who claimed to have lost 17 cars and all his possessions due to a failed marriage, received support from Prophet Benard El Benard Nelson–Eshun and others.

However, his remarks in interviews about the size of donations and unfulfilled promises from fellow musicians like MOGmusic sparked controversy.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, Vida Adutwumwaa expressed disappointment at Boateng’s attitude, stating that his behaviour could deter future contributions from well-meaning individuals.

“I saw an interview where someone gifted him GH¢1000 and he said the money was too small for him and he was expecting more. How can he say that? With the pen drives he sells, will he be able to make GH¢1000 from selling them?

“The attitude he has been displaying is not right. If I were the one who gave him the money, I would have gone back for it. Because if he can’t appreciate GH¢1000, then how much is he expecting people to give him?” a disappointed Vida asked.

She urged Boateng to show gratitude for the assistance he has received and cautioned that such entitlement might lead donors to reconsider their support.

“If I were MOG, I wouldn’t even give him the plaque and the money pledged to him, I would give it to a more humble gospel artiste.

“It’s difficult to make money nowadays; people have to pay bills and other things. And they’ve taken the little they have to give him and he says it’s not enough.

“So let him appreciate the little he has been given and stop being so entitled to other people’s money,” said Vida.
Vida emphasised the importance of humility and appreciation in the face of help, suggesting that if she were MOGmusic, she would redirect support to a more grateful artist.

She highlighted the challenges people face in making ends meet and stressed the need for Boateng to acknowledge the generosity extended to him.

Doctor who prescribed wrong medication to KODA must be sued – Socrate Safo

Veteran Ghanaian movie producer Socrate Safo recently weighed in on a statement made by the late gospel musician Kofi Owusu Dua Anto, also known as KODA, regarding a doctor’s misprescription that lasted eight months before KODA’s passing.

Safo highlighted the seriousness of doctors administering incorrect medication, referencing a similar case involving the late American musician Michael Jackson.

Safo emphasised that giving the wrong medication to a patient is a serious offence that should not be taken lightly.

He cited the case of Michael Jackson, where the doctor responsible for the incorrect medication was charged, found guilty, and jailed, despite the musician’s request for the medication.

“In medical terms, the offence [wrong medication prescription] is very high. You remember the trial about Michael Jackson’s death. Even though the musician asked for the injection, the doctor who did that was charged, found guilty, and even jailed.

“I have lost some people who were close to me because of some of these issues. In this particular KODA case, he should have sued [the doctor responsible for the wrong medication prescription],” said Socrate.

Speaking on Okay FM and reported by GhanaWeb, Safo expressed that KODA should have taken legal action against the doctor who gave him the wrong medication.

He stressed the gravity of such medical errors, noting personal losses due to similar issues.

Safo’s comments come in response to a viral video of KODA recounting his experience with incorrect medication for eight months, sparking questions about why the responsible doctor was not held accountable for their actions.

    KODA’s health issues

KODA was battling with a condition called G6PD deficiency. While it has not been established that it was the cause of his death, the musician, in a video that has gone viral, said he took the wrong medication for eight months.

He spoke about how he had been given the wrong medication at an unnamed Takoradi-based hospital during one episode that he suffered, stressing how that incident changed him forever in terms of demanding answers on his health.

He said after he had been treated over two days and released back in 2016 thereabout, “I started developing some funny, funny symptoms here and there over time, and I noticed something was not right.

“So, I remember one day being bold enough to google the medication I was given, and I noticed that one major element that I was asked to take was a Sulphur-based medication, and immediately I told myself that I had a medical condition called G6PD.

“I know for sure that Sulphur is one of the things that I am not supposed to take. Why, the people, they want kill me or what? Because I had taken the medication for over six, close to 8 months,” he added.

Ghanaian actress Joselyn Dumas has delved into the hurdles that single mothers encounter when re-entering the dating scene.

On her YouTube channel, Dumas shared a story about a friend’s reluctance to date a woman with a child.

The friend expressed concerns about taking on parental responsibilities for a non-biological child, illustrating a prevalent bias that contributes to the difficulty single mothers face in finding romantic partners.

“We have our kids as single mothers but we still want to be happy. We still want to date other people.

“Let me tell you why we don’t go out and marry. I spoke to a friend of mine here, Anthony. He said, ‘Me, I will never be with a born one’.

“His reason was, ‘Why would I come and raise somebody else’s child? That’s not my bloodline. He doesn’t have any trace of my DNA in him. Why am I going to now help someone’s bloodline grow? What about mine?’

“And I said to myself that this is the reason why a lot of single mothers are single with their children,” he said.

Dumas argued against this mindset, emphasising that single mothers, like everyone else, seek happiness and companionship.

She challenged the perception that caring for a non-biological child, whether through adoption or otherwise, should be fundamentally different.

“I asked him, ‘What about adoption?’ And he said that’s different. But if you ask me, it’s not that different,” she said.

The actress shed light on the sacrifices single mothers make out of necessity rather than a desire to remain single, highlighting the resilience and determination often exhibited by these women.

“You can raise the child on your own. It’s a sacrifice you’ve also made as a woman. Regardless of what it is, you are going to have this child and you’re going to raise this child. It’s not because we want to be single,” she said.

  • Nigerian comedian accuses Funny Face of taking performance fee without honoring deal

Nigerian comedian accuses Funny Face of taking performance fee without honoring deal

Nigerian comedian Parrot Mouth has accused Funny Face of breaching a contract between them by failing to perform at an event after receiving payment.

Parrot Mouth claims that Funny Face, a Ghanaian comedian, was booked to perform at a comedy show in Nigeria and was paid half of his performance fee upfront.

However, Funny Face allegedly demanded full payment before performing, left the venue before the payment was settled, and did not show up at the main event.

Parrot Mouth’s manager stated that they tried to reach Funny Face multiple times for a refund or clarification but received no response.

“We paid half of the money. The artiste came to the backstage area, and we all had fun. Then the artiste manager said, ‘You have to pay the balance.’ We promised that we would give his money to him before he climbed the stage. So, they [Funny Face and his manager] should just give us ten minutes.

“Before Tosca [Parrot Mouth’s manager] came down, Funny Face had left. So, we had to call him more than 50 times, he didn’t pick up the call, and I didn’t even call him for a refund or write to him for anything. Because I believe that whatever you do will catch up with you,” he said while speaking in an interview with Hitz FM.

This incident adds to the recent legal issues involving artists failing to perform after being paid, with Mr. Drew also facing a lawsuit for a similar reason.

In a separate development, Funny Face was recently granted bail after being in police custody for two weeks due to a car accident where his vehicle hit five people on the Kasoa highway.

He has been granted bail with conditions and is expected to appear in court again in four weeks as investigations into the accident continue.

  • I regret investing in Ghana’s Eurobond – Michael Blackson

Comedian Michael Blackson, in an interview with comedian Kwaku Sintim-Misa, shared the story of his investment misfortune, detailing how funds meant for his school were lost after investing in Ghana’s Eurobonds.

Blackson, known for his humour, had ambitious plans to secure his school’s future by investing in high-interest Ghanaian bonds.

He spoke of his intentions to ensure the school’s longevity, considering a time when he might step away from comedy.

“When I built the school, I tried to have a lifetime plan for the school. Because, let’s say, five years from now, I don’t want to tell jokes anymore. Then what will happen to the school?

“How can I make sure this thing lasts forever? So what I did was… that the difference between Ghana and America is that Ghana will give you a higher interest rate on your money.

“Because the Ghana bonds will give you a very high percentage. So I said to myself, ‘I’m going to invest money in my country and use that interest to manage the school forever’,” he said.

Despite warnings from his American bankers about the risks of investing in a developing country, Blackson remained confident in Ghana’s stability.

He disregarded concerns about potential losses and moved forward with the investment.

“I remember when I was sending the money little by little, my bankers in America were like, ‘Mike, this is a third world country. Are you sure you want to send your money?’

“I told them not to talk crap about my country. Because I know for a fact the only way a bond could go bad was through a civil war.

“And Ghana can’t have a civil war. We are too peaceful. We’re too loving. We’re not going to hurt each other. Nothing will happen. So I said, there’s no way my money could go wrong. And guess what? I was wrong.

“I did a Eurobonds thing and now… nothing,” he said.

Unfortunately, the Eurobond haircut blindsided Blackson, leaving him without the expected returns.

Despite this setback, he’s determined to keep the school running, turning to nonprofits and planning fundraising events in the United States as part of his efforts.

    What happened to the EuroBonds

In 2023, Ghana undertook a debt restructuring initiative, which included a reduction in the principal amount of its Eurobonds, aiming to alleviate $20 billion in external debt.

The government sought a 30 to 40 percent cut in principal and forgiveness of interest payments. Following the announcement, the value of Ghana’s sovereign dollar bonds fell sharply.

This restructuring aligned with IMF conditions to assist Ghana with its Balance of Payments, requiring $15 billion over three years.

Without effective debt management, Ghana risked financial strain on its reserves and currency.

The Eurobond haircut was part of Ghana’s strategy for economic relief, despite facing potential creditor resistance.

For generations, Akan queens have sported the Dansinkran, a distinctive uniformed low haircut adorned with a thick black dye forming the shape of a calabash on their foreheads.

This traditional hairstyle, primarily worn by queens of the Akan tribe, especially the Asantes, holds deep cultural significance as a symbol of authority and royalty within the community.

    What is its origin?

Although there are several twists to the inception of this hairstyle, there are two most prevalent stories.

The first story detailed that Nana Kwaadu Yiadom II, the queen mother of the Asante Kingdom and sister of Nana Prempeh I, once performed the regal ‘Adowa’ dance during the Asante Confederacy’s restoration and the ‘Dansinkran’, then ‘Kentenkye’ hairstyle, was first spotted on her.

The reigning Governor at that time was said to have referred to her hairstyle as a “dancing crown” because of its aesthetic appeal during the dance.

Afterward, the term “dancing crown” was verbally altered into ‘Dansinkran’, which has since become its name today.

In the second story however, during the 1824 Katamanso war when the British joined forces with other tribes to defeat the Asantes, the ‘Dansinkran’ hairstyle, then known as ‘Gyese Nkran’, was introduced and worn by the Asante women to mourn the Asantehene who died in the war.

It is, however, unknown why it was labeled ‘Gyese Nkran’.

    Its significance

Aside from representing power and wealth, the ‘Dansinkran’ hairstyle distinguishes the queen mothers and women of the royal family from other people.

Although in recent times, other women wear Dansinkran, the queen mother’s style is exceptional because they work on their hair daily, whereas other women wear it only on special occasions.

Some customs associated with the hairstyle

The ‘Dansinkran’ hairstyle is usually adorned to pay homage to dead Akan royals (kings and queens).

In the event of death, royal women not adorned in Dansinkran are not allowed to file past the dead bodies of kings or queens.

The transitioning into a modern day ‘sweat hairstyle’

The Dansinkran hairstyle, usually meant for royals and the elderly, has stood the test of time.

In recent times, the youth has embraced it and created a ‘modern look’ known as ‘Sweat’.

The difference is that the ‘Sweat’ is a unisex style and is also not done with the shiny dark mixture applied to the hair.

Some traditional brides nowadays also rock the Dansinkran hairstyle to meet their husbands and in-laws.

What is the thick black dye in the haircut made of?

The thick black dye spotted at the edges of the haircut is made up of a mixture of charcoal soot from a cooking pot or fire lamp, and shea butter.

It is believed that the dye used on the hair enhances the thinking capabilities of the wearer.

Edward Akwasi Boateng is ungrateful – Vida Adutwumwaa

A prominent entertainment critic, Vida Adutwumwaa has strongly criticized veteran gospel musician Edward Akwasi Boateng for what she perceives as ingratitude.

During a segment on UTV’s United Showbiz, Adutwumwaa did not hold back, labelling Boateng as ungrateful.

The controversy arose after Boateng mentioned in an interview with Zionfelix that certain public figures had promised to support him but failed to follow through.

Boateng specifically mentioned his colleague, MOG, alleging that promises of support were made but not honoured.

He also brought up media personality Otwinoko, claiming that while Otwinoko had given him a check, the amount was far below what he expected.

Reacting to Boateng’s statements, Adutwumwaa criticised his attitude, stating that it made no sense.

She pointed out that Boateng should show appreciation, especially considering that the sales from his pen drives might not amount to the money he deems too little.

Adutwumwaa highlighted Boateng’s reaction to receiving GH¢1000, implying that his expectations were unrealistic given his current ventures.

“I saw an interview where someone gifted him GH¢1000 and he said the money was too small for him and he was expecting more. How can he say that? With the pen drives he sells, will he be able to make GH¢1000 from selling them?” he said.

She expressed disbelief at his inability to appreciate such an amount, suggesting that if she were in Otwinoko’s position, she would reconsider giving him anything at all.

“The attitude he has been displaying is not right. If I were the one who gave him the money, I would have gone back for it. Because if he can’t appreciate GH¢1000, then how much is he expecting people to give him?” she added.

In conclusion, Adutwumwaa emphasized that Boateng’s demeanor and expectations were inappropriate, questioning how much he anticipated receiving if GH¢1000 was deemed insufficient.

Stalker sentenced to prison for sending 8,000 cards in a month to Pop Star

A Brazilian national, Myra Carvalho has been sentenced to 14 weeks in jail for flooding British pop star Harry Styles with a staggering 8,000 cards within a month.

This development comes after her guilty plea to charges of stalking that caused “serious alarm or distress.”

The verdict was delivered at Harrow Crown Court, where officials confirmed the incident.

Carvalho has also been slapped with a 10-year restraining order, preventing her from attending any events involving Styles or making any contact with him.

This order extends to certain areas of north-west London and includes a victim surcharge of £134.

Court records reveal that Carvalho, who has been in the UK since December, operated from a backpacker hostel in south-west London.

Her fixation on Styles led her to send numerous handwritten letters and purchase online cards, including wedding cards, which were directly delivered to Styles’ residence.

    Additionally, two letters were hand-delivered.

This case underscores the ongoing problem of celebrity stalking, echoing a previous incident involving Styles in 2019 when he faced harassment from a homeless man.

Styles has openly discussed the psychological toll of such incidents, prompting him to bolster his home security and personal safety precautions.

The severity of the UK courts’ response to stalking and harassment, as demonstrated in this case, underscores their commitment to safeguarding individuals’ privacy and well-being.
