Father on the run after pouring acid on wife, child

A 29-year-old woman, Philomina Owusu, fights for her life after her husband, Enoch Mensah, 35, allegedly poured acid on her.

The tragic incident occurred in Gomoa Pomadze in the Central Region.

The attack claimed the life of their nine-month-old daughter.

Reports suggest the couple had ongoing conflicts, notably over financial difficulties and imminent eviction due to unpaid rent.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Enoch, upset with Philomina, reportedly lured her to a new house under false pretences before launching the assault.

Philomina’s cries for help forced Enoch to flee, leaving her severely injured and their baby tragically deceased.

Philomina is now hospitalised in critical condition at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend her assailant.

Details emerging indicate that the couple have been fighting since the birth of their child, with financial issues, particularly concerning rent, being a significant point of contention.

The couple, according to the details, faced eviction due to their inability to settle their rent.

Enoch, after an altercation, returned to the residence and harmed Philomena and their infant daughter with acid.

Another narration indicates that the suspect, Enoch Mensah, 35, who had issues with his wife Philomena Owusu, 29, went to her house on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, and informed her that he had rented a new house for her, so she should go with him so they go and pay for it.

The suspect was angered by her behaviour, leading to the acidic attack, and her husband fled the accident after she began screaming for help.

The victim sustained serious injuries, but her daughter died.

Philomena is currently in critical condition and has been transferred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care as the search for her attacker continues.

  • Two arrested for robbing, killing 80-year-old American-based Ghanaian at her residence

Police in New Edubiase have apprehended two suspects accused of robbing and killing an 80-year-old Ghanaian-American woman at her residence in Nyinese, Central Region.

The suspects, identified as Yusif Afrim (25) and Wisdom Sete (35), allegedly committed the crime before fleeing with two vehicles, a Mini Cooper with registration number CR 267-24 and a Toyota Vitz with registration number GJ 3817-21.

They were intercepted by police while en route to Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

During questioning, Wisdom Sete confessed to using supernatural means to kill the victim, identified as Naomi, on April 18, 2024.

Sete claimed the motive was a dispute over access to the Toyota Vitz, which was denied to him despite their impending marriage ceremony.

  • Savings of numerous Ghanaians plunged into dire economic mess – Dela Sky fires Akufo-Addo

Savings of numerous Ghanaians plunged into dire economic mess – Dela Sky fires Akufo-Addo

Legal practitioner and media personality Richard Dela Sky has strongly criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo‘s government, accusing it of economic mismanagement amidst the ongoing power crisis, locally known as “dumsor,” in Ghana.

Sky lambasted the government’s handling of the situation, highlighting the economic hardships faced by Ghanaians due to power outages and the apparent collapse of the Cedi.

He expressed concern over the impact on workers across various sectors, noting that many are struggling to afford basic necessities and facing challenges due to frequent power outages affecting food preservation.

Sky also criticised the government’s response, calling it passive and warning of potential electoral consequences if urgent action is not taken to address the pressing issues faced by citizens.

In a series of posts on social media, Sky pointed out the disconnect between the struggles of ordinary Ghanaians and the perceived extravagance of government officials, citing lavish events funded by government contracts while citizens suffer.

“Contrasts with the frivolity displayed by its upper ranks, who indulge in lavish birthday festivities for a notorious figure linked to the infamous escape of tax-funded guinea fowls, a scandal symbolizing alleged mismanagement and flight.

“Such events, funded perhaps with profit from government contracts paid for by the very citizens left in darkness, while the light stays on for a lavish birthday party for just one elite, underscore a disturbing disconnect with the struggles of the average Ghanaian.

“It is profoundly insulting that this government, which rose to power on commitments to rectify a power crisis mishandled by its predecessor, now blatantly disregards the demands of its citizens for a predictable load-shedding timetable.

“Too soon, they seem to have forgotten how they came to form a government. The concerns of the citizenry no longer seem to matter to them. This neglect transcends policy failure; it is a profound betrayal of public trust,” Richard Sky stated.

He emphasized that the government’s neglect of citizen demands for a predictable power supply schedule represents a betrayal of public trust, especially considering the promises made during their rise to power.

Family demands answers from Ashaiman mortuary over missing corpse

A family in Ashaiman is raising concerns and demanding clarity from a local mortuary amid claims that the mortuary has lost track of their deceased relative’s body.

The family alleges that despite completing all required paperwork and arrangements for the release of the corpse, they have been unable to locate it.

Representing the family, Pastor Ebenezer Nartey expressed frustration with the management of the mortuary.

He stated that they had entrusted the body to the mortuary with the understanding that it would be released to them on April 20, 2024, for transportation to Kakasuna No. 1.

However, the mortuary’s management has reportedly not responded to their requests.

“We lost one of our church members, so we deposited the body here at Trinity Mortuary, and the necessary arrangements were made for us to collect the body today. Yesterday, the family sent a delegation to the Trinity office, informing them to prepare our body for collection today to be conveyed from here to Kakasuna No. 1,” Pastor Nartey explained.

“Despite our arrival at 3:00 PM, we have been unable to locate our body. The deceased is a woman named Mary Animley. The lack of communication and reception from the mortuary’s officers is concerning. It’s now past 6 PM, and we urgently need our body today. All necessary documentation and agreements between Trinity and the family have been completed,” he added.

The family’s distress highlights the need for prompt and transparent communication from mortuaries in such sensitive matters.

  • Your morbid hate against Ghanaian workers is obvious – TUC tackles Adei on anti-Ghanaian worker sentiments

Your morbid hate against Ghanaian workers is obvious – TUC tackles Adei on anti-Ghanaian worker sentiments

The Ghana Trade Union Congress (TUC) released a statement on Friday, April 19, 2024, accusing former Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Board Chair Prof Stephen Adei of displaying intense animosity towards Ghanaian workers.

The TUC, represented by Secretary General Dr. Yaw Baah, denounced Adei’s recent comment where he suggested Togolese workers were more productive than their Ghanaian counterparts as insulting and disrespectful.

In their stern warning to Prof Adei, the TUC expressed deep concern over what they perceive as a consistent effort to undermine Ghanaian workers and incite public disapproval towards them.

“You are on a mission to discredit Ghanaian workers at the least opportunity. You have been deliberate and consistent in attacking workers and courting public disaffection for them. The working people of Ghana will not tolerate your attacks any longer,” the TUC warned Prof Adei.

They criticised Adei for what they described as a blatant disregard for trade unions and a failure to understand the historical and contextual challenges faced by workers.

“It is not too difficult to detect that you have a morbid hatred for Ghanaian workers. You do not hide your disdain for trade unions. What you fail to recognise is that your hatred and disdain for workers and their unions have completely eclipsed your judgement on issues of industrial relations and national development.”

“For the most part, Professor, you have no idea of the context and history in respect of the issues workers and their unions are grappling with and you will not take your time to listen and to learn. You impulsively jump into the conversation betraying your ignorance and biases. In the process, the claims you make against workers and unions are only figments of your clouded and biased imaginations”, the TUC statement said.

“We find it very strange and unfortunate that a Ghanaian professor of your calibre could make such statements about the working people of Ghana who are sacrificing so much for the development of the country.”

“You should know that being a professor does not entitle you to profess opinions about everything under the sun…We wonder what you want to achieve with such negative statements about Ghanaian workers. It comes as no surprise to us, therefore that the president has been swift in kicking you out of the state institutions he appointed you to lead,” the statement added.

The TUC’s statement emphasised that Adei’s alleged biases and lack of understanding regarding industrial relations and national development have led him to make baseless claims against workers and unions.

They questioned the intentions behind Adei’s negative remarks about Ghanaian workers, highlighting that his expulsion from state institutions by the president resonated with their concerns.

The union concluded by asserting that academic credentials do not grant individuals the right to make disparaging remarks about hard working citizens contributing to Ghana’s progress.

  • GRIDCO, BUI POWER, NEDCO, ECG to be merged – Kwadwo Poku

GRIDCO, BUI POWER, NEDCO, ECG to be merged – Kwadwo Poku

Energy expert and chairman of the energy subcommittee for the NPP 2024 Campaign, Kwadwo Poku has announced a significant development in Ghana‘s power sector.

The cabinet has given its approval for the merger of several entities, aiming to enhance supply efficiency and potentially allow for private sector participation.

The entities slated for merger include the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Bui Power, the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO), and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

While discussing the move, Nsafoah Poku emphasised that while there is approval for the merger of NEDCO and ECG, as well as Bui Power Authority and Volta River Authority (VRA), there will be careful considerations for entities like GRIDCo and VRA due to their critical technical roles and monopoly positions.

He explained, “There is a lot going on…NEDCo and ECG there is a cabinet approval for the two to be merged. Then there is also a cabinet approval for VRA hydro and BUI [power] Authority to become one. So you’re going to have BUI Authority and VRA as one entity.

“The government has stripped the VRA thermal as a separate entity,” he said, adding that when all the parliamentary processes are done, there will be a single entity representing Bui Power Authority and Volta River Authority.

“And we are going to have ECG and NEDCo as one entity and these are things that the government has given a cabinet approval for these processes to go ahead,” said Mr. Nsafoah on The Key Points on Saturday, April 20.

Regarding potential privatisation, Nsafoah Poku highlighted the need to reevaluate GRIDCo’s functions.

“GRIDCo carries a dual function, there is the function of being the transmission company but also plays a role which is more like a market administrator which is the dispatch of power and also looking at all these other auxiliary technical willing that they do.

“These things need to be streamlined and if you are able to take some of these powers away from some of these institutions, it will be okay to privatise some of them not necessarily selling them 100 percent but be able to bring in private sector participation as a minority state on some of these institutions,” he said.

He suggested that streamlining roles could facilitate partial privatization without compromising essential services.

He emphasized the importance of private sector involvement while retaining state oversight.

The developments reflect a strategic approach to optimizing Ghana’s power sector, balancing efficiency gains with considerations for public-private partnerships.

  • We’re in perilous times;  I pity Ghanaians – Franklin Cudjoe on fuel hikes, dumsor

We’re in perilous times;  I pity Ghanaians – Franklin Cudjoe on fuel hikes, dumsor

CEO of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has voiced concerns regarding the challenges facing Ghanaians in the energy sector.

Ghanaians are not only contending with erratic power supply but also grappling with a surge in fuel prices.

The second pricing window of April 16, 2024, saw several Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) increasing fuel prices.

A recent survey by Citi News at various OMC outlets revealed a notable hike in fuel costs.

For example, Goil, a state-owned entity, raised petrol prices from GHȼ14.15 to GHȼ14.99 per litre in the current pricing window.

Diesel is now priced at GHȼ14.80 per litre, up from GHȼ14.74.

In addition to these challenges, commuters in Lapaz and other regions are facing a 20% increase in transport fares, contrary to government and Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) directives advising against fare hikes.

During his appearance on The Big Issue on Citi TV and Citi FM last Saturday, Mr Cudjoe empathised with Ghanaians and expressed his hope for a prompt resolution to these issues.

“We are in perilous times really and I really pity the Ghanaian. I was listening to the vox pop in the run-up to the program and people were complaining, and you could see these are deep-seated concerns… So it is sad, I just wish there was a magic wand to deal with this matter,” he remarked.

  • Federation of Kumasi Traders Association threaten to drag GNFS, Kejetia management to court

Federation of Kumasi Traders Association threaten to drag GNFS, Kejetia management to court

Chairman of the Federation of Kumasi Traders Association, Nana Prempeh is gearing up for legal action against the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and Kejetia Market‘s management in Kumasi.

His threat stems from the market’s alleged operation without a fire certificate and insurance cover, a clear breach of GNFS’s Legal Instrument (LI) 1724.

In an exclusive interview with Kojo Marfo on AbusuaNkommo, Nana Prempeh voiced his frustration at the lack of concern surrounding the market’s compliance with essential safety regulations.

“I am a trader, but I am going to sue two entities, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Kumasi City Market, for allowing the market to operate without a licence. I know that the GNFS has the mandate to close down any commercial facility operating without a Fire Certificate and Insurance Cover, and I want to test the law,” he declared.

Backing his claims with evidence, Nana Prempeh pointed out that Kejetia Market has been without insurance cover since November 2021.

“Kejetia is a commercial facility, and the National Insurance Commission has made it clear that every commercial entity must be insured. However, I know for a fact that from November 2021 till date, the Kejetia Market has not been insured.”

He also highlighted deficiencies in the market’s fire safety infrastructure, emphasising the absence of a fire certificate despite the presence of a fire post.

“We are operating in the market at our own risk, the market does not have insurance cover because Kejetia Market is not fireworthy per the national fire service standard.”
Additionally, Nana Prempeh raised concerns about market congestion and its potential impact on the longevity of the Market Complex Infrastructure.

“The facility is a new technology that the Brazilians brought. Have we asked ourselves about the lifespan of this market? The market was built with bolts and nuts with boards. Are we also minded it was built in a waterlogged area?” he questioned, underscoring broader issues affecting the market’s sustainability.

Prophet Kumchacha hints at possible running mate ahead of 2024 elections

Popular prophet, Nicholas Osei known as Prophet Kumchacha and leader of Heaven’s Gate Ministry, has announced his choice for a running mate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Kumchacha expressed his preference for Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, the founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), over Akua Donkor, leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).

Kumchacha justified his decision by pointing out what he perceives as Akua Donkor’s lack of vision.

He stated that he could not align with someone lacking vision and voiced his confidence in Kyiri Abosom’s capabilities, referring to him as both a friend and a brother.

As the leader of the Kum People’s Party (KPP), Kumchacha reiterated his presidential ambitions and affirmed his determination to run as an independent candidate.

He highlighted the resilience required in politics, citing examples of past presidents who contested multiple times before winning.

“Akua Donkor has no vision, and I can’t work with her. If I were to choose to align with someone, it would be Osofo Kyiri Abosom. He’s my friend and brother,” Kumchacha stated in an interview on Joy Prime on April 20, 2024.

He added, “I believe that when you contest something for the first time and you are unable to win, it is not the end of your life. Former president Kufuor contested three (3) times before he became president; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo contested 3 times before he won as president; and the late president John Evans Atta-Mills contested 3 times before he became president. God hasn’t revealed to me how long it will take, but I’ll contest until I become president one day.”

  • Snapchat queen Dulcie Boateng’s ‘Porials Pitch’ partners arrested over breach in health regulations

Snapchat queen Dulcie Boateng’s ‘Porials Pitch’ partners arrested over breach in health regulations

The N1 Highway in Accra came to a standstill on April 20, 2024, as traffic snarls disrupted the journey from Lapaz to Spintex.

Commuters faced lengthy delays due to heavy gridlock, prompting many to seek alternative routes.

This chaos stemmed from a massive gathering near the Accra Mall for a sales event known as Porials Pitch, organized by social media influencer Dulcie Boateng, renowned as the ‘Queen of Snapchat.’

Despite its success in drawing a large crowd without formal advertising, the event turned contentious.

Authorities intervened due to alleged breaches of health regulations and the sale of unregistered products.

Several organizers, including Dulcie’s partners, were arrested following concerns about the legality of the products sold, such as boric acid suppositories, butt enlargement creams, weight gain syrups, and unapproved soaps.

The accused were taken to the Accra Central Police Station and are expected to face charges related to selling unapproved items and advertising products not endorsed by the FDA.

This development underscores the regulatory challenges facing online influencers venturing into product promotions.

  • New train accident needs thorough investigation – Ayeh-Paye

New train accident needs thorough investigation – Ayeh-Paye

Former Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Samuel Ayeh-Paye, is demanding a thorough investigation into the recent train accident, emphasizing that merely sentencing the driver involved is inadequate to resolve the matter.

Ayeh-Paye stressed the importance of holding all stakeholders accountable, including the railway development authority and the Ghana Railway Company Limited.

His remarks follow the mishap involving a newly imported train during a test run on the Tema-Makapadan railway line.

The driver of the truck involved in the incident has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Juapong District Court.

However, Ayeh-Paye argued that the driver’s sentencing should not mark the end of inquiries.

He urged the relevant railway sector entities to provide answers regarding the circumstances leading to the accident.

He stated, “Sentencing the driver to 6 months in prison shouldn’t end there. There must be a proper investigation to find out what happened. There are other stakeholders; the railway development authority, who have some questions to answer because they are the regulatory body.

“We have the Ghana Railway Company Limited as well on why they were not able to do proper surveillance. There’s an obstacle on the lines before the train was moved on the line we have to find out, that is the first question…So, for me, I think we shouldn’t end there. Nobody should sit to say that once the driver has been sentenced, it ends it.

“Also, if you look at the pictures we’ve seen so far, you ask yourself, it looks as if somebody just picked the truck and dumped it in the middle of the track. Because you can see weeds behind it and in front of it, so when it came people were saying that it was photoshopped…you see how it was positioned, the middle [part] of the truck was positioned on the line. So, for me, we should not end it here. We must do a proper investigation,” he said.

Ayeh-Paye also pointed out discrepancies in the accident scene, raising suspicions about how the truck was positioned on the tracks.

He urged for a comprehensive investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident.

  • Ghana is not experiencing dumsor; just technical challenges – Ayeh-Paye

Ghana is not experiencing dumsor; just technical challenges – Ayeh-Paye

Former Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Samuel Ayeh-Paye, has rebuffed claims of ‘dumsor’ in Ghana despite widespread power outages, emphasising technical issues as the root cause.

In recent months, Ghana has grappled with increased power cuts, prompting calls for a structured load-shedding plan.

Energy Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh, refuting ‘dumsor’ claims in a recent media interview, challenged those advocating for a schedule to prove the existence of the phenomenon.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Citi FM and Citi TV, Ayeh-Paye pointed out that Ghana’s installed capacity is sufficient but faces operational hurdles, causing intermittent outages.

“We are having some power outages and according to the power agencies, they are saying that there is no ‘dumsor’ but technical challenges. ‘Dumsor’ happens when you don’t have enough power to produce or supply the exact peak demand that we need.

“As we speak, our peak production is around 3,600 megawatts, and what we get is a little below that and we have a shortfall, and what they [the power agencies] are saying is that the shortfall is not as a result of not having an installed capacity. The calculation is having about 5,000 plus installed capacity,” Ayeh-Paye stated.

He also dismissed claims of financial constraints affecting fuel procurement for power plants, attributing the outages to maintenance and operational issues within the power sector.

“What the [Energy] Ministry is telling us is that the issue is not about us not having money to buy fuel, the issue is about some of the plants being under maintenance and repairs and the ECG is also telling us that they have challenges with their transformers.”

Ayeh-Paye’s stance contradicts public perception, underscoring the complexities behind Ghana’s ongoing power disruptions.

  • Kwadwo Poku advocates against Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy

Energy Analyst and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Poku has urged for the removal of the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy imposed by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

The NPA recently reintroduced the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy into petroleum product prices starting April 4, 2024.

This move prompted adjustments in fuel prices by some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), with potential impacts on consumer costs and increased transport fares.

During an interview on The Big Issue on Citi TV with Selorm Adonoo, Mr Poku voiced his disagreement with the Ministry of Finance’s decision to reintroduce the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy.

He stated, “I felt it was very unfortunate when the Ministry of Finance in their wisdom thought that the Price Stabilisation and Recovery Levy has to be put back because of the reasons that was stated.

“I disagree with the Ministry of Finance on that because I think that price stabilisation levy is not a consolidated fund item.”

“It is money that goes to a separate port. It shouldn’t go to a consolidated fund and as a result, it shouldn’t affect the general calculation of government in terms of the IMF programme and all the things that the Ministry of Finance want to tell us.”

The Energy Sector Levies Act 2015 (Act 899) allows the National Petroleum Authority to stabilise petroleum product prices for consumers over a certain period.

It currently charges 16 pesewas per litre for petrol, fourteen pesewas per litre (GHp14/Lt) for diesel and 14 pesewas per kilogram (GHp14/Kg) for LPG.

  • Strengthening of cedi should be government’s utmost priority – COPEC on fuel price hikes

Strengthening of cedi should be government’s utmost priority – COPEC on fuel price hikes

The Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has called on the government to prioritize bolstering the national currency, the Cedi, as a strategy to reduce the prices of petroleum products.

In recent weeks, petroleum product prices have been steadily declining, but this trend took a hit with the reinstatement of the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Citi FM and Citi TV, COPEC’s Executive Secretary, Duncan Amoah, attributed the price hikes to a weaker Cedi and advised the government to focus on enhancing the currency’s strength.

“What we can do as a country at this point is really to strategize on your currency and do whatever magic that had been done because before August 2022, prices of petroleum products did hike and at a point, diesel and petrol were crossing GH¢21 and for some reasons, we were able to cool those two off.

“The Cedi had also depreciated to almost GH¢17 exchange to a Dollar and the Bank of Ghana for whatever magic, was able to reverse the depreciation back to GH¢12 and so if you have any of those things down your sleeve, there could be no better time to apply that kind of a solution than at this point when prices are simply going up daily.

“At this point, taxes cannot be taken, give or take, we cannot influence Israel on Iran, we cannot influence Ukraine from bombing Russian refineries. What we can do at this point is to ensure that your Cedi is not doing too badly as we have seen in the past few weeks.

“Once that happens, you are simply hanging yourself in the face of global market price trends and throwing your hands in despair,” Duncan Amoah stated.

Amoah emphasized the importance of strategic measures to stabilize the Cedi, citing past instances where such actions had a positive impact on fuel prices.

He mentioned that prior to August 2022, fuel prices soared, reaching over GH¢21 for diesel and petrol.

However, interventions by the Bank of Ghana managed to reverse the Cedi’s depreciation from nearly GH¢17 to GH¢12 against the Dollar.

Highlighting the current global challenges impacting petroleum prices, such as geopolitical tensions, Amoah stressed that controlling the Cedi’s performance is within the country’s reach and crucial for mitigating price fluctuations.

He concluded by urging swift action, stating, “Now is the time to implement solutions that can stabilize our currency, as relying solely on taxes or external factors beyond our control will not suffice in addressing the escalating prices of petroleum products.”

  • I chose music over sport because I couldn’t afford football boots – Kofi Kinaataa

Highlife sensation Kofi Kinaata recently shared the untold story of his transition from a promising footballer to a celebrated musician. The revelation came during an interview on “The Chat,” hosted by Ekow Koomson on Citi TV.

Reflecting on his early years in Takoradi as a skilled footballer, Kofi Kinaata candidly revealed that financial barriers, particularly the cost of football boots, hindered his football ambitions.

He expressed, “Money for boots was the main problem…but with music, you don’t need to buy a microphone before you can sing…You just sing then you pass it on to the owner.”

This accessibility drew him towards music, steering his career trajectory.

Despite a successful decade in the music industry, marked by multiple Songwriter of the Year awards at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Kofi Kinaata had yet to release his anticipated album or EP, titled “Kofi OO Kofi.”

Explaining his decision to finally unveil the EP, Kofi Kinaata attributed it to the persistent requests from his fans.

He stated, “I’m here because of the fans and the fans are the ones pestering me to release an EP or album…Since it’s a team now and they’re on my neck to release an album I decided to release it for them to stream.”

Initially set for an April 15 release, “Kofi OO Kofi” has been rescheduled to either the 3rd or 10th of May.

Economist Kwame Pianim commends PURC for imposing fines on board members of ECG

Economist and former Chairman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Kwame Pianim has praised the PURC for its bold move in imposing fines on Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) board members.

This action was taken due to power outages occurring without prior notice to consumers.

During an appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Pianim emphasised the importance of reminding directors of their responsibilities and accountability in public institutions.

He highlighted the necessity for board audit and compliance committees to ensure management adheres to agreements and regulations.

Pianim pointed out that the Cash Waterfall Mechanism required ECG to prioritise paying for raw materials over self-compensation.

“And if they say they didn’t know, then it means the audit and compliance committee was not functioning properly and I’m happy that this is a timely reminder to directors that they have legal and judicial responsibility.

“I’m hoping that the whole country will support the PURC just as they should support the Auditor General when he comes with his findings.

“As we are also supporting the PURC, they should also know that one day, the consumer is going to take them to court for not regulating ECG properly,”he said.

He stated that board directors should have verified management’s compliance with this policy, implying that a failure to do so indicates a lapse in the audit and compliance committee’s functionality.

Expressing hope for nationwide support for the PURC’s actions, Pianim drew a parallel with the Auditor General’s role in accountability.

He cautioned that consumers might take legal action against regulators like the PURC if they fail to regulate entities like ECG effectively.

This discussion follows the recent fine imposed by the PURC on ECG’s Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama, and board members for breaching Regulation 39 of L.I. 2413.

This regulation mandates prior notification to consumers regarding power interruptions.

In conclusion, Pianim stressed the need for competent professionals in ECG’s leadership, underlining the responsibility of directors to ensure effective regulation and consumer protection.

During the ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) /World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, DC, the African Director of the IMF, Abebe Selassie has reassured Ghana of continued financial support despite ongoing negotiations with its Eurobond holders.

Selassie stated that while an agreement with Eurobond holders has not been reached, the IMF remains committed to providing additional financing to Ghana.

He emphasized the IMF’s flexibility in tailoring policies to support countries efficiently.

“With respect to Ghana, again, discussions are ongoing just a few months after official creditors provided financing assurances and, the government is in good faith discussions with their creditors, and we hope that there will be an outcome. I should add here that the fact that they have not reached agreement with their Eurobond holders will not prevent us from being able to provide more financing, although reaching that agreement is of course important”.

“As of now there is no MOU [Memorandum of Understanding] with bilateral creditors, but we know that there have been intensive discussions in recent weeks and those are continuing, and we are very hopeful that there will be agreement with bilateral official creditors. To be clear, they have provided financing assurances though, and that remains in effect. And so, we are not envisaging that it will be an issue for our ability to conclude the next review and provide the disbursement that is pending. As we noted, we have reached staff-level agreement and that is by far the most important component for the review,” Abebe Selassie stated.

Regarding Ghana’s discussions with creditors, Selassie expressed optimism about a positive outcome.

“With respect to commercial creditors. I think we are grateful that the government shared with us some of the terms that are under consideration. Staff has provided an input on whether these terms were consistent with program parameters and the government has decided that they would not pursue this deal just yet. Again, I think we are very hopeful that there will be movement and that they can reach agreement consistent with the program parameters, helping lower Ghana’s debt burden at the right level and avoiding, of course, people of Ghana having to make too much sacrifice”, Mr. Selassie pointed out.

He noted ongoing talks with both commercial and bilateral creditors, highlighting the importance of reaching agreements to alleviate Ghana’s debt burden.

Despite the absence of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with bilateral creditors, Selassie highlighted the progress in discussions and expressed confidence in a favourable resolution.

He also mentioned the government’s decision not to pursue a deal with commercial creditors at present, pending agreement on terms aligned with program parameters.

Selassie concluded by expressing hope for swift negotiations with private sector creditors while acknowledging that these processes take time and are primarily between Ghana and its creditors.

“I am hopeful also that the private sector creditors are also approaching it with that view. But negotiations take time, and I am not sure I can give a timeline. This is something that is between Ghana and its creditors, so I will leave it at that”.

Overall, the IMF remains supportive of Ghana’s efforts to manage its debt and achieve financial stability.

VIDEO: Watch content creator Kwadwo Sheldon blast Lil Win

A recent video circulating online has captured the heated exchange between a content creator Kwadwo Sheldon and Kumawood actor Kwadzo Nkansah, also known as Lil Win.

The conflict between the two began when Kwadwo Sheldon criticised Lil Win’s movie “A Country Called Ghana,” citing concerns about the quality of its imagery.

In response, Lil Win publicly rebuked Kwadzo Sheldon and even banned him from attending the movie premiere.

During an interview on Kingdom FM, Kwadzo Sheldon defended his critique, arguing that Lil Win lacks the moral high ground to criticise him given Lil Win’s history of personal attacks, particularly regarding his physical appearance.

Kwadzo Sheldon emphasized that he possesses evidence of Lil Win’s past insults and stated, “Lil Win, who is he to insult me. Look at his face, like a bush animal, look I don’t want to descend into the gutters with him. He should be mindful of his utterances. He insulted me in the past, insulting my looks, I have evidence. Today he has money so he is spewing nonsense. He should be careful not to mess around with me,” Kwadzo Sheldon stated.

The clash highlights ongoing tensions between established figures in Ghana’s entertainment industry.

Amewu’s dashcam video of train accident ‘questioned’ over time code skipping

A dashcam video capturing the lead-up to a recent train collision with a parked Hyundai truck has sparked widespread demands for clarity and accountability.

The incident, which occurred on April 18, has raised eyebrows on social media platforms, with users seeking answers regarding the circumstances that led to the crash.

The controversy escalated when Railways Development Minister John-Peter Amewu acknowledged that a viral photo depicting the improperly parked truck had been digitally altered.

Amewu, clarifying that he had not personally endorsed the edited image shared on his verified Facebook page, promptly removed the post.

Subsequently, Minister Amewu shared a video purportedly sourced from the train’s dashcam.

This move came in response to mounting calls from the public to release the footage for a more comprehensive understanding of the accident.

One of the main points of contention revolves around a time gap in the 30-second video, where the timestamp jumps from 12:09:22 to 12:09:41, leaving approximately 20 seconds unaccounted for.

This omission has led critics to question the integrity of the footage and speculate on the content of the missing segment.

The Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train involved in the collision was operating on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line in the Asuogyaman District at the time of the incident.

Since then, government supporters, including Minister Amewu, have alleged that the crash may have been orchestrated to disrupt the train’s deployment.

In an interview with Citi FM, Minister Amewu cited eyewitness accounts claiming that the truck’s driver deliberately parked on the railway line before disappearing.

The driver was subsequently apprehended and has reportedly been sentenced to six months in prison in connection with the collision.

The unfolding saga has gripped public attention, prompting ongoing scrutiny and calls for transparency from authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding the train crash.

    Description of he video:

The train could be seen cruising along the railway line around 12:09 pm on April 18, 2024.

At around 12:10 pm after the train had made a curve, it was met by the Hyundai truck sitting across the railway line.

Unfortunately, the train could not stop quickly to prevent smashing into the abandoned truck.

The train smashed into the Hyundai truck at around 12:11 pm, dragging the truck along the railway line for a few seconds before it finally stopped.

“If you’re talented at organizing naming ceremonies, learn to give birth” – Basintale to Akufo-Addo

The Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, has strongly rebuked President Akufo-Addo for the recent commissioning of what he terms as nine-year-old AMERI power plants, now renamed the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant (K1TPP).

President Nana Akufo-Addo formally inaugurated the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant at Anwomaso in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

In response, the opposition NDC has criticised the Akufo-Addo administration and the NPP for vehemently opposing the procurement of the AMERI power plants during the Mahama administration between 2013 and 2015.

During a TV3 New Day interview on Friday, April 19, the NDC’s Deputy Communication Officer stressed that the current government should not take credit for projects initiated by previous administrations.

“If you’re talented at organising naming ceremonies, learn to give birth. You cannot decide to consistently exercise your talent in performing naming ceremonies for things that have been executed by your predecessor,” Malik Basintale stated.

He also questioned the purpose of the commissioning ceremony for plants that have been operational in the country for nearly a decade, stating,“What was the so-called commission all about?” he quizzed, adding, “You organised a naming ceremony for a nine-year-old baby and then you want us to clap for you.”

The African and Middle East Resources Investment (AMERI) Group officially handed over the 10-unit power plants to the Ghanaian government after completing their contractual term under a “built, own, operate, and transfer” agreement.

President Akufo-Addo also praised the contributions of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), and Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) in realizing this project.

I don’t need a honeymoon, the economy needs it – Mahama meets with Teacher unions

Former President John Dramani Mahama recently met with teacher unions to grasp their demands should he return to political office.

Setting the record straight, Mahama clarified that rumors of him seeking a “honeymoon” were false.

He stressed that it’s the economy, not his personal tenure, that needs a period of recovery and stability.

Mahama affirmed that he isn’t making promises but plans to create a platform, if elected, to hear out the grievances of the teacher unions.

“I am not in a position to make promises. I intend to establish a forum if elected to listen to your concerns. I want to clarify that reports of me seeking a honeymoon were misconstrued; I meant the economy needed a honeymoon,” stated Former President John Dramani Mahama.

Mahama sought to refute claims linking him to assertions that he needed a honeymoon, as reported in several media outlets.

Transfer of billing, collection role of ECG to a private entity far advanced – Egyapa Mercer

Minister-Designate for Tourism and MP for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has revealed that significant progress has been made in the process of outsourcing the billing and collection responsibilities of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to a private entity.

Egyapa Mercer disclosed that a consultant has been engaged and is collaborating with ECG on the operational details following approval from the cabinet.

During a discussion on the JoyNews national dialogue concerning the power sector, the NPP MP for Sekondi highlighted that the policy has already undergone pilot testing in various regions.

He acknowledged potential resistance from within ECG but emphasised the potential benefits, stating, “Discussions are far advanced and of course typically you will have resistance from our friends in the ECG. But it is something that I believe will help them.

“We have tasked them to put in boundary metres as a first step that they are working on. Of course, the digitization programme that they have also rolled out is also helping with the collections.

“So when they can put the boundary meters in all their operational districts and know the volume of power that is going to every district then you can introduce private sector people to bill and collect the revenue for the power that is coming to that enclave,” he said.

The announcement comes amidst intermittent power disruptions across the country, attributed in part to ECG’s financial challenges in meeting obligations to power suppliers.

Experts point to the financial imbalance at ECG, with the company reporting significant collection losses.

In September 2023 alone, the losses amounted to GH¢2,050,373,143.47, reflecting a concerning trend from previous years.

Furthermore, ECG faces a substantial debt of $1.5 billion, stemming from overdue payments to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and outstanding electricity purchase bills.

The Deputy Energy Minister stressed the urgency of addressing ECG’s financial losses, expressing confidence that privatizing billing and collection services could bolster revenue streams and facilitate debt repayment.

“This initiative has already undergone successful trials,” he noted, hinting at a potential solution to ECG’s financial challenges.

Viral photo of truck on rail line fake, photoshopped – Minister admits

Railways Development Minister John-Peter Amewu has clarified that a widely circulated image of a truck incorrectly parked, purportedly causing a collision with newly imported trains, was digitally altered.

Amewu initially shared the photo on his official Facebook page on April 18, shortly after news of the accident broke, but has since removed it.

Speaking on Joy FM on April 19, 2024, he explained that he had not personally viewed the specific photo on his page as his team manages the content.

He stated, “I haven’t seen the picture myself, so maybe I have to get to my Facebook people. I think somebody manages that Facebook, so I have not seen it.”

He further clarified, “But the picture I saw on social media was a photoshop of a vehicle they put across the line, and you can see that that is not the point where the accident occurred. That is not even kilometre 76.”

Following the deletion of the photo, the minister shared a dashcam video depicting the events leading up to the accident.

In a related development, the Ghana Police Service apprehended the driver, Abel Dzidotor, on Thursday, revealing through a statement that their inquiry determined the driver had left the vehicle unattended on the railway track.

Dzidotor has since been sentenced to a six-month imprisonment after pleading guilty to three out of four charges, including inconsiderate driving and causing unlawful damage.

Train accident truck driver not an NDC member – North Tongu NDC debunks ‘NPP propaganda’

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in North Tongu has strongly refuted allegations circulating on social media linking one of its members to the recent train crash caused by a wrongly parked truck.

In a statement released on April 19, 2024, the Constituency Secretary clarified, “THE CULPRIT OF THE TRAIN CRASH INCIDENT WAS NEITHER A BRANCH CHAIRMAN NOR SECRETARY IN NORTH TONGU CONSTITUENCY.” The statement attributed these claims to “NPP propagandists and publicists to hoodwink the masses.”

Further addressing the issue, the statement emphasised that the accused individual, Abel Dzidotor, was not only non-affiliated with the NDC but also not a registered member among the 1300+ members in the constituency.

“We have also noticed the bogus and misleading reportage from NEWSGH360 that the culprit ‘Abel Dzidotor’ is a Branch Secretary of the NDC. For emphasis, the culprit does not hold any position within the 152 branches of the Constituency.”

The statement went on to clarify that out of the 1368 branch executives in North Tongu, no one bore the name or positions falsely attributed to Dzidotor.

Amidst allegations from certain pro-government sources on X and Facebook attempting to politicize the incident, Dzidotor received a six-month jail sentence on Friday, April 19, after admitting guilt to three out of four charges, including inconsiderate driving and causing unlawful damage.

  • Ghana’s inflation expected to reduce in 2025 – IMF

Ghana’s inflation expected to reduce in 2025 – IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has unveiled its Regional Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa, predicting a substantial decrease in Ghana’s inflation rate to 11.5% on average by 2025.

This marks a significant decline from the 22.3% average inflation recorded in 2023.

Additionally, the IMF projects a notable Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 4.4% in 2025, contrasting with the 2.8% growth observed in 2023.

These projections indicate an anticipated rise in both demand and supply within the economy for the upcoming year.

The IMF highlighted that headline inflation across sub-Saharan Africa has been on a downward trajectory since its peak in November 2022, albeit with variations among different countries.

“This cautious stance in monetary policy stems from two key factors. First, median core inflation only recently approached the levels seen before the pandemic. Second, sub-Saharan African countries started their monetary tightening cycles later than other Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs), leaving them to play catch-up while many EMDEs have started easing since the second half of 2023”.

It noted that only a few nations, including Botswana, Ghana, and Mozambique, have reduced policy interest rates in the past year, while most have maintained or tightened rates despite declining inflation.

“Even among countries with a marked decline in inflation, only a select few have reduced policy interest rates over the past 12 months (Botswana, Ghana, and Mozambique). The majority have opted to continue tightening or maintain elevated policy rates, even after inflation has passed its peak”, it stated.

Explaining the cautious monetary policy stance, the IMF cited two main factors: core inflation levels approaching pre-pandemic levels only recently and sub-Saharan African countries beginning their monetary tightening cycles later than other Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs).

However, the IMF expressed optimism about the potential for more countries in the region to have leeway to lower interest rates soon.

This optimism is supported by the increasing positivity of real-term monetary policy rates across the region.
While Fitch Solutions projects an average inflation rate of 19.0% for Ghana in 2024, the London-based firm also anticipates that lower inflation will ease financial pressures on households and enhance consumer purchasing power.

“So lower inflation will alleviate pressure on household finances and increase the purchasing power that will spur economic growth”.

Senior Country Risk Analyst at Fitch Solutions, Mike Kruiniger attributed the slight uptick in March 2024 inflation to base-side effects and expects inflation to resume its downward trend in the coming months, which would ultimately stimulate economic growth.

  • Economic outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa positive – IMF

Economic outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa positive – IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has highlighted a positive trajectory in the economic outlook for sub-Saharan Africa after a tumultuous four years.

The IMF’s Regional Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa reveals promising signs, with growth projected to increase from 3.4% in 2023 to 3.8% in 2024, with a majority of countries expecting higher growth rates.

The report outlines a continued economic recovery beyond 2024, with growth forecasts reaching 4.0% in 2025.

“Economic recovery is expected to continue beyond this year, with growth projections reaching 4.0% in 2025. Additionally, inflation has almost halved, public debt ratios have broadly stabilised, and several countries have issued Eurobonds this year, ending a two-year hiatus from international markets”, it mentioned.

Notably, inflation has nearly halved, public debt ratios have stabilised, and several countries have successfully issued Eurobonds this year, marking a return to international markets after a two-year hiatus.

    Despite these improvements, challenges persist.

The IMF notes ongoing funding constraints as governments grapple with financing shortages, high borrowing costs, and looming debt repayments.

“Risks to the outlook remain tilted to the downside. The region continues to be more vulnerable to global external shocks, as well as the threat of rising political instability, and frequent climate events”.

Additionally, the region remains vulnerable to global external shocks, political instability, and frequent climate events, posing risks to the economic outlook.

To navigate these challenges effectively, the IMF emphasises three key policy priorities: improving public finances without hindering development, maintaining monetary policies for price stability, and implementing structural reforms to diversify funding sources and strengthen economies.
Acknowledging the need for international support, the IMF concludes that sub-Saharan African countries require additional assistance to foster inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous economic growth in the future.

  • Being able to wear fashionable clothes in public again after child birth is a personal “rediscovery” – Rihanna

Being able to wear fashionable clothes in public again after child birth is a personal “rediscovery” – Rihanna

American musician and fashion icon Rihanna, in a recent interview with the BBC, expressed her joy at rediscovering fashionable attire after embracing motherhood with the birth of her two children.

The Grammy-winning singer shared that following the arrival of her second son last year, she had become “too comfortable” wearing pyjamas and sweats.

Speaking at the launch of her latest collaboration with Puma in London, Rihanna emphasised the significance of dressing up, describing it as empowering for women.

“With the first pregnancy, I feel like I was able to wear heels all the way through,” she said.

“But then with the second pregnancy, you have a toddler, a belly, it’s winter, you have a coat, a baby bag. You’re like, heels? Hmm, maybe not. That’s why I got a little bit more creative with my comfortable style.

“And then I got too comfortable after I had my second kid and I just was in robes, PJs, sweats.”

She spoke candidly about the challenges of balancing style with motherhood, mentioning how priorities shift but reclaiming fashion brings about a personal “rediscovery.”

“And now I’m playing again. Now I’m having fun with my clothes.”

The star attended the London launch on Wednesday, days after being spotted at the Coachella festival in California.

Returning to the spotlight and thinking about fashion again has given her “a rediscovery” and the licence “to even allow myself that space mentally to approach my closet and create stuff”, she said.

The artist, who welcomed her sons with rapper A$AP Rocky, recounted her journey from confidently wearing heels throughout her first pregnancy to adapting her style creatively during her second.

After a while when you have kids, you think, this is the dumbest [stuff], the least important. It really is the least important thing.

“But it does something for you as a woman, and as a mum that’s important for us.”

The star was praised for rewriting the rules for fashion when she was pregnant, refusing to wear conventional maternity clothes.

“I approached it like everything else I approach in fashion,” she told BBC News. “I just want to do things my way. I just want to always stitch it up and put my own twist on it.

“But I just refused to buy maternity clothes, really and truly. I was like, whatever fits was what’s going to work. And that made me challenge myself to get clever with style.”

Rihanna’s approach to maternity fashion, eschewing traditional choices and opting for outfits that resonated with her style, received praise and acknowledgment for challenging norms.
Despite stepping back from music, Rihanna’s influence in the fashion and beauty industries has soared, leading to her self-made billionaire status primarily through her brands Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty.

Her recent return to the spotlight has reignited discussions about her impact on fashion and female agency, reaffirming her status as a trailblazer in the industry.

Shatta Movement apologizes to GSPD over ‘distasteful’ comments

Shatta Movement Empire has issued a formal apology to the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled following a video that surfaced showing Shatta Wale allegedly mocking the disability of fellow artist Stonebwoy.

The apology, conveyed in a letter signed by Shatta Wale’s manager Samuel Atuobi Baah, expressed regret for any offence caused and clarified that the intention was not to ridicule individuals with disabilities.

Rather, it was aimed at highlighting the importance of respect and proper conduct, particularly in response to Stonebwoy’s absence at an event.

Sammy Flex, representing Shatta Wale, emphasised the movement’s commitment to inclusivity and pledged to be more mindful of their words and actions in the future.

The controversy stemmed from Shatta Wale’s onstage comments at the Fadama Sallah Fest, where he used derogatory language towards Stonebwoy, including remarks about his disability.

The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled promptly condemned these remarks as irresponsible and potentially harmful.

However, following the apology from Shatta Wale’s team, the GSPD has acknowledged it, expressing appreciation for the commitment to inclusivity and calling for collaboration to create a more inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of disabilities.

Flood control preparedness delayed due to resource constraints – Oppong Nkrumah

Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has openly acknowledged that the readiness of flood control measures has been delayed due to resource limitations.

Speaking on the National Flood Control Programme’s goals, he stressed the urgent need for infrastructure enhancements to prevent recurring floods as the rainy season looms closer.

Mr. Nkrumah highlighted the financial challenges that have slowed down project implementation, citing funding gaps that prevented the timely completion of initiatives in 2023.

He noted that although the project is funded at $200 million by the World Bank, the actual expenditure has fallen short of this figure due to sluggish progress for various reasons.

In an effort to expedite the work, the minister disclosed recent meetings with project coordinators and contractors, urging them to accelerate their efforts.

He specifically mentioned pending flood control projects in the Kaneshie area of Accra, emphasising the necessity of engagements with locals, compensating affected individuals, and securing essential land areas and detention ponds.

“So until it is done, and to do that, we have to do the engagement with the people, pay compensation to project-affected people, secure the landlocks that we need. We have to do detention ponds that will arrest the water coming from the hilly areas of the Greater Accra region.”

“So there’s a lot of work that needs to be done. Not all of it has been done. We are running as much as we can. I’m sure you see me every time with the contractor, chasing them, trying to get their payments for them so that they can deliver.

“But we are behind schedule. We would do our best with the time and resources that we have and we would make a case for more resources and some more seriousness in getting the work done so that in the shortest possible time, it will be a thing of the past,” he said.

Acknowledging the ongoing delays, Mr. Nkrumah reassured the public of their commitment to working diligently within their current constraints.

However, he also made a plea for additional resources and increased seriousness in project execution to swiftly address the issue before it becomes a recurring problem.

Gov’t promises transparency in negotiations regarding Saglemi Housing Project

Amidst allegations of corruption and stalled progress, Ghana’s Saglemi Housing Project is set for a transformative shift as the government welcomes private sector involvement.

The move comes with a promise of enhanced transparency and efficiency.

In a bid to break the deadlock surrounding the long-pending Saglemi Housing Project, the government has initiated a Request for Proposal (RFP) to solicit private sector participation in its redevelopment.

This strategic move signals a departure from previous approaches, with the aim of tapping into private sector expertise and resources to expedite the project’s completion. It also seeks to address Ghana’s pressing housing deficit.

The Saglemi Housing Project has been shadowed by corruption allegations, leading to the trial of former Works and Housing Minister, Collins Dauda.

Despite investments exceeding $200 million, issues like vandalism and theft of project materials have persisted.

Speaking on the government’s stance, Works and Housing Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah emphasised a reluctance to allocate additional funds, hence the push for private sector collaboration.

“The dynamics have not necessarily changed. It’s a source of funding that is changing now and our objective is to be able to finish this and make it available. This is also to develop a settlement on its own. So there are questions on where is the school, where is the hospital, where is the commercial centre?

“Community and social responsibility, technical and managerial ability as well as ethical business practices – all come together as part of the eligibility criteria of who qualifies to put in a bid, local and or international,” Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated on JoyNews.

Nkrumah outlined key criteria for prospective bidders, emphasising community responsibility, technical proficiency, and ethical standards.

He also highlighted the government’s commitment to transparency, citing a detailed policy that mandates open bidding processes and proactive disclosure of information under the Right to Information Act.

“It talks about the fact that we have an open and competitive bidding process. For example, nobody is going to get an opportunity to put in a bid before the other. All the bids will be received on the same day and then at the end of that day, at that 5pm close, all the bids will be opened transparently. So we have clarity on what everybody has brought to the table.

“We have also committed in our transparency policy that when this transaction is done, in consonance with the pro-active disclosure clause of the Right to Information Act, we will publish all the bids that were received, the evaluation report of the independent evaluation panel, we will publish the decision memo that the end based on all of these, this is the company that is selected as the successful bidder, we will publish that decision memo and we will also publish the final agreement that is entered into with the successful bidder,” Mr Nkrumah said.

Under this policy, all bids, evaluation reports, decision memos, and final agreements with successful bidders will be made publicly available, showcasing the government’s dedication to accountability and fair competition in revitalising the Saglemi Housing Project.

I’m not bothered by diss songs; I’ve a reputation to protect – Kofi Kinaata

Renowned Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata has shared his philosophy behind steering clear of songs that discredit others, opting instead to focus on uplifting and inspiring music.

In a recent interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Kinaata explained that he sees no value in creating diss tracks that could harm relationships within the music community.

He emphasised that such songs often lead to hurtful exchanges that can even extend to affecting one’s family.

“I want to prove people wrong, so I will not respond to a feud for you to insult my mother. I won’t reply to your diss song for you to get the nerves to make certain comments that will affect my family.

“I have to set a good example for the next generation. People prompt me about diss songs targeted at me all the time, but I don’t mind. If you have numerous hit songs as an artiste you won’t respond to such songs,” he said.

Kinaata’s stance reflects his desire to set a positive example for emerging artists, encouraging them to prioritise creativity and unity over negativity.
