NPP has reduced public administration to it’s newest low – Beatrice Annan leaks Cocobod document

Lawyer and Economic Policy Analyst Beatrice Annan has uncovered startling information regarding a procurement document linked to the Ghana Cocoa Board, revealing the purchase of 15 keyboards for a staggering amount of C4,500.00 each.

Expressing her dismay on Twitter, Annan criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of reducing public administration standards to new lows.

She questioned the need for such expensive equipment, highlighting the party’s previous claims of financial independence.

“The men they promised they have, never had iPads and Magic Keyboards before assuming power? These guys bragged that they had their own monies.

The newest low in public administration is always introduced by the NPP,” Beatrice Annan stated.

This revelation comes amidst ongoing controversies surrounding the Cocoa Board, which reported a GH¢2 billion loss in 2021.

During a hearing with Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Chief Executive of COCOBOD, attributed the losses to various factors including the decline in international cocoa prices, smuggling, and illegal mining (galamsey).

The spotlight on extravagant spending raises concerns about transparency and accountability within the Cocoa Board’s operations.

  • A nurse should earn a composite salary of GHS10,000 – GRNMA President

A nurse should earn a composite salary of GHS10,000 – GRNMA President

The President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, is pushing for significant salary increases for nurses and midwives in the country. She believes that a composite salary of GHS10,000 should be the minimum for entry-level nurses, while chief nursing officers should earn at least 20,000 Cedis.

In an interview on TV3’s Hot Issue with Kemmeni Amanor, Ofori-Ampofo emphasised the need for better conditions of service to retain nurses and midwives in Ghana.

“For the least person working as a nurse, a composite salary of GHS10,000 will be ideal. For chief nursing officers, the ideal salary should be at least  20,000 Cedis,” on the Hot Issue with Kemmeni Amanor on TV3 Sunday, March 31

She expressed optimism about ongoing negotiations with the government and urged for swift action to meet their demands.

“The situation of remuneration and other conditions of service cannot be the same but currently, we are on the negotiation table, we are negotiating our conditions of service, the collective agreement that is in force now expired and we are negotiating it.

“We have made a number of proposals to the employer to say that this is what we deserve as nurses and midwives. If we are able to get them it will help us retain our nurses, those who are eager to migrate outside. It will also help us in motivating us to also do our work.”

Acknowledging the impact of brain drain on healthcare delivery, Ofori-Ampofo highlighted the departure of experienced nurses seeking better opportunities abroad.

“It is their right and we cannot stop them but the truth of the matter is that as much as they are leaving it is having a toll on health service delivery in Ghana.

“The truth is those that are leaving are those that are well experienced, with many years of experience. Even if we are going to recruit new personnel these are the very people who would have trained them, so their leaving is a big issue.”

She stressed the importance of addressing this trend through improved career prospects, educational support, and enhanced remuneration packages.

“It is about time we really sit as stakeholders to discuss this matter thoroughly. From where we sit, we know that we cannot stop them because it is their right to migrate but it is about time we put in some innovation in terms of motivational packages that will really attract or help to retain them in the country.

“There are some nurses who for various reasons will never leave Ghana but the majority are still nurturing the idea of leaving the shores of Ghana, it is all because they want to have better opportunities for career progression, they want to pursue some academic venture, looking for higher salaries or better conditions of service.”

The GRNMA’s efforts reflect a broader call for urgent intervention to bolster the healthcare workforce and ensure quality care for all Ghanaians.

Who have I offended in the music industry? – Sista Afia to TGMA on lack of nominations

Ghanaian songstress Sista Afia has expressed her disappointment with the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) , formerly known as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, after not receiving a nomination in the recent nominees unveiling.

In a statement on her official Facebook page, Sista Afia conveyed her disappointment in the award scheme’s organisers, stating that despite her hard work in producing hit songs, she did not receive a nomination, while some artists who don’t even apply for nominations get nominated.

She urged the award scheme’s organizers to ensure fairness in their processes before it’s too late.

The musician also questioned the criteria behind the nominations, citing her track “Asuoden” from 2021 as an example of her overlooked efforts in the industry.

Taking to her official Facebook page, the musician wrote “Have I offended someone at the high table Ghana Music Awards ?? The fact that Asuoden was a big song in 2021 Zero nominations which I still don’t get. I learnt people don’t even file for nominations but get nominations, the downplay on my efforts ever since i started doing music in Ghana hasn’t been fair to my craft And Yes it hurts because I work soo hard. I’ve been quiet for soo long because i have respect for the scheme and I dont want to step on no one’s toes!”

Free SHS is nothing but a scam – Blakk Rasta

Ghanaian musician and radio personality Blakk Rasta has once again taken aim at President Akufo Addo‘s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, labelling it as a deceptive educational scheme.

In a recent broadcast on the Urban Blend show , Blakk Rasta vehemently criticised the policy, equating his dislike for it to his aversion to Satan.

Blakk Rasta asserted that the Free SHS policy lacks coherence and practicality, emphasising that Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have incurred significant debt to maintain electricity supply for Ghanaians.

“What kind of education are we giving to our children? Free SHS is nothing but a scam. What kind of education is ‘you go to school for one month and go and sit home for 13 months?’ Extra classes left, right, and center, milking the students night and day. Does this make common sense to you?”, Blakk Rasta stated.

Additionally, he pointed to allegations made by former deputy minister for energy John Abdulai Jinapor, who claimed that the government requires $50 million USD to procure fuel, linking this financial strain to the ongoing power outages known as ‘dumsor.’

The musician and commentator further argued that the Free SHS initiative is detrimental to Ghanaian students, asserting that it leads to prolonged periods of absence from school.

He criticized the prevalence of extra classes that burden students and accused teachers and school administrators of exploiting students under the guise of providing additional education.

Expressing his disdain for the current state of Free SHS, Blakk Rasta denounced the quality of education being offered, citing instances where students receive inadequate meals and likening the portions to “gas” due to their lightness.

“I hate this [Free] SHS education the way it stands right now more than I hate Satan. You go to the school, and they give them kenkey and some soup. I heard some of the schools now call it ‘gas’ because when you put it there and open the lid, it’s like gas, very light. They put the head of the tilapia in there for twelve students to share. Is that your idea of free SHS?”

He condemned the practice of sharing meagre food portions among multiple students and questioned the overall efficacy and fairness of the policy.

Funny Face must not be forgiven; his recklessness must not go unpunished – Arnold Baidoo

Entertainment pundit Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has sparked controversy with his recent comments regarding Funny Face‘s actions and calls for forgiveness.

In a heated statement, Arnold condemned those advocating for forgiveness, stating that they are insensitive and lacking in judgement.

He expressed deep concern for the victims affected by Funny Face’s actions, highlighting the severity of their injuries, including internal bleeding and potential permanent disability.

Arnold argued that if those defending Funny Face were personally impacted by the incident, their stance on forgiveness might be different.

Furthermore, Arnold dismissed any notions of a spiritual cause behind Funny Face’s actions, attributing the incident solely to Funny Face’s mistakes.

He called for the law to take its course, emphasising that if there are legal consequences for such actions, they should be upheld without hesitation.

“He must not be forgiven, there is no excuse for his actions, he is the reason innocent individuals are lying in the hospital,” Arnold Baidoo stated.

Arnold’s remarks have stirred strong reactions, with many questioning the balance between forgiveness and accountability in such cases.

The controversy continues to unfold as the public grapples with differing perspectives on justice and redemption.

Ghanaian comedian and actor Funny Face was involved in a motor accident at Kasoa in the Central Region.

Videos circulating on social media had eyewitnesses huddled around the actor on Sunday evening.

According to one eyewitness, he heard a crash immediately after he had parked his car.

The driver said he turned to see Funny Face’s car run into a woman with two children and a man on a motorbike.

However, latest developments indicate the Kasoa District Court has remanded Ghanaian comedian Funny Face in police custody for two weeks after he hit five pedestrians with his car.

While his counsel pleaded for his bail, the prosecution held that ample time would be needed for further investigations into the matter.

Ghanaian couple based in New York jailed for beating their 5-year-old son to death

A tragic case involving a Ghanaian couple based in New York has reached its conclusion as they are sentenced for the fatal beating of their 5-year-old son.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced the conviction of Valerie Owusu and Emmanuel Addae on March 22, following the death of Owusu’s son, King, nearly three years ago in Brentwood, N.Y.

District Attorney Raymond Tierney emphasised the severity of the crime, stating, “This little boy was beaten and suffered for days at the hands of these defendants, one of whom was his own mother, until he unfortunately succumbed to his severe and extensive injuries.”

The investigation revealed that Owusu and Addae subjected the child to beatings using “at least four different instruments” over a three-day period in 2021, leading to his eventual loss of consciousness.

Shockingly, neither of the defendants sought medical assistance or called 911 for the boy.
The tragic events unfolded further on April 1, 2021, when King was left at a family member’s house by Addae and Owusu.

Upon the family member’s return, the child was discovered dead, with authorities determining that he had sustained multiple injuries from head to toe as a result of the beatings.

  • Dumsor persistent due to money owed IPP’s by gov’t; IPP’s are “afraid to talk” –  Mahama Ayariga

Dumsor persistent due to money owed IPP’s by gov’t; IPP’s are “afraid to talk” –  Mahama Ayariga

Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, pointed fingers at the government’s outstanding debts to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) as a significant factor contributing to the ongoing power challenges in Ghana, commonly known as dumsor.

Ayariga highlighted that despite the financial strains faced by these IPPs, they refrain from speaking out due to a reluctance to be drawn into political discourse.

He emphasised, “They just do not have the money to pay, the IPPs are not talking because they do not want to get involved in politics so they don’t talk.”

He expressed scepticism regarding the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration’s ability to effectively address the country’s economic issues, particularly criticising their handling of funds from the Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA) aimed at addressing energy sector debts.

Ayariga praised the strategic thinking behind ESLA, established during the tenure of former president John Dramani Mahama, but criticised the current government’s mismanagement of the accrued funds.

He alleged that misrepresentations led to blaming former president Mahama for dumsor.

ESLA Plc, created as an independent Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to manage energy sector debt, has reportedly generated around GHS 10 billion since its inception.

“Seven years down the line where there is no demonstrated problem of lack of national generation capacity. There is internally a capacity to generate as much energy as we need. The problem is that because you have mismanaged the finances of this country, you have squandered the monies kept in the Energy Sector Levy accounts,” he said, adding that “the truth of the matter is that some of the [power] producers have it to their limits.”

Ayariga emphasized the financial strain faced by IPPs in ensuring uninterrupted power supply for Ghanaians, noting that some producers are operating at their limits due to extensive borrowing.

Former deputy minister for energy and MP for Yapei-Kusawgu, John Abdulai Jinapor, echoed similar sentiments, stating that the government requires approximately 50 million US dollars for fuel purchases to alleviate the current erratic power supply issues.

He reiterated that dumsor is fundamentally a financial challenge.

We failed to capitalize on Year of Return to promote Ghana music – Bisa Kdei

Highlife Sensation Bisa Kdei has voiced disappointment over the lack of promotion for Ghanaian music during the Year of Return and Beyond the Return celebrations, attributing the poor reception of Ghanaian music abroad to this missed opportunity.

In an interview with Accra FM on March 28, Bisa Kdei acknowledged the significant impact of the Year of Return events on the creative industry but expressed regret that the focus was not on showcasing authentic Ghanaian sounds like Highlife.

Instead, he noted, the emphasis was on genres like Amapiano and Afrobeats.

“I don’t think we utilised the Year of Return well enough. Some foreigners, even Nigerians, came to Ghana hoping to hear authentic Ghanaian songs. But we were busy playing Amapiano and Afrobeats for them. So when they are going back to their countries, which songs will they take away?” Bisa Kdei remarked.

He emphasised the missed opportunity to showcase Ghana’s rich musical heritage during a period when the world’s attention was on the country.

Bisa Kdei lamented that clubs and entertainment venues primarily promoted foreign songs during that time, contributing to the acceptance of those genres in international markets while Ghanaian music struggled for recognition.

“This situation has led to these sounds being accepted in international markets while Ghanaian music wasn’t being recognized. So if a Ghanaian artiste decides to host a show out there, the foreigners won’t attend because they can’t recognize his song. But they recognize the Afrobeats and the Amapianos,” he elaborated.

Bisa Kdei’s comments highlight the need for strategic promotion of Ghanaian music on global platforms, especially during significant cultural events like the Year of Return, to ensure its rightful place and recognition in the international music scene.

All health facilities in Ghana must be exempted from current load shedding – Minority

The Minority in Parliament has raised a strong demand for the exemption of all health facilities across the country from the ongoing load shedding, following a tragic incident at the Tema General Hospital.

Juaboso Member of Parliament and ranking member on the health committee of Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akandho, emphasised the critical need for uninterrupted power supply in healthcare institutions to prevent avoidable deaths.

The demand comes in the wake of a heart-wrenching incident where a nursing mother lost her three-day-old baby at the Tema General Hospital reportedly due to a power outage on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

Rashida Abubakar Tetteh, the grieving mother, revealed that medical equipment failure during the blackout led to the loss of her newborn.

She recounted how doctors informed her about her child’s inability to survive due to the non-functional incubator caused by the power outage.

Expressing deep sorrow, the grandmother of the deceased baby, Rebecca Johnson, lamented the tragic consequences of the power cuts on innocent lives, questioning the readiness of healthcare facilities in handling such emergencies.

“I went to visit my son, but I didn’t see him. I was waiting outside when one doctor came to inform me that they were sorry, but due to the lights out, my child could not survive because the incubator was not working.

“The lights went off on Tuesday evening. No staff has spoken to me, and they haven’t said anything to me,” she narrated.

Grandmother of the deceased baby, Rebecca Johnson, also expressed grief over the development.

“It’s painful, they have killed my child because of dumsor; I am in pain. We have nothing to say to the hospital. A hospital like Tema General said they didn’t have petrol in the generator. Is this how we are going to act in this country,” she cried.

In response to these allegations, the Tema General Hospital refuted claims linking the power outage to the infant’s death, issuing a press release on Wednesday, March 27, to clarify the situation.

The hospital maintained its commitment to patient safety and wellbeing, reassuring the public of its dedication to providing quality healthcare services.

However, Mintah Akandoh, speaking on News Central on TV3, emphasised the necessity of investigating the incident to ascertain the true cause of the baby’s death.

He reiterated the urgent need to exempt all health facilities from load shedding and urged authorities to conduct power audits promptly.

“It will be very difficult for them to admit that it is due to the power cuts that caused the death of the baby, unless there is a probe into the matter you will not be able to establish the cause of the death of the baby. But that notwithstanding, it is a fact that every health facility needs electricity to be able to function well, it is also a fact that power cuts can lead to the death of patients so even if at that particular time it was not the power cuts that caused the death of the baby it is possible that power outages in other health facilities can cause deaths.

“So as a matter of urgency, we the Minorty side on the health committee and the minority as a whole, demand that all our health facilities must be exempted from this load-shedding going on, and then the Ministry together with the GHS must begin immediately power audits in the various health facilities.”

The opposition’s call underscores the vital role of consistent electricity supply in safeguarding lives within healthcare settings, urging swift action to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

  • Power audits must be conducted in all hospitals across the country – Minority amidst ‘dumsor’

Power audits must be conducted in all hospitals across the country – Minority amidst ‘dumsor’

The Minority in Parliament has intensified pressure on the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to conduct power audits in all health facilities nationwide.

Their demand aims to ensure continuous electricity supply for these facilities even during national grid outages.

Additionally, opposition lawmakers are calling for an immediate exemption of all health facilities from the ongoing load shedding exercise.

The move comes in response to concerns that power cuts in healthcare settings could lead to avoidable deaths.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Member of Parliament for Juaboso and ranking member on the health committee, voiced these demands.

He highlighted a recent tragic incident at the Tema General Hospital where a nursing mother lost her three-day-old baby allegedly due to a power outage.

“We demand immediate action to prevent such tragic incidents in the future,” Akandoh stressed.

The bereaved mother, Rashida Abubakar Tetteh, recounted the heartbreaking experience of being informed by a doctor that her child couldn’t survive due to non-functional medical equipment during the blackout.

Rebecca Johnson, the grandmother of the deceased infant, expressed deep sorrow and questioned the hospital’s preparedness during power outages.

Responding to these claims, the Tema General Hospital issued a press release denying allegations that the power outage led to fatalities.

The hospital reaffirmed its commitment to patient safety but faced criticism over the alleged lack of preparedness during electricity disruptions.

“The Tema General Hospital assures the general public that the Facility will continue to put the health and safety of its patients at the core of its business,” the statement concluded.

The minority’s call for power audits and an end to load shedding in health facilities underscores growing concerns about healthcare infrastructure resilience in Ghana.

A load shedding timetable would have prevented the incident at Tema General Hospital – Nana Yaa Jantuah

Amidst a tragic power outage incident leading to the loss of a newborn’s life at the Tema General Hospital, Nana Yaa Jantuah, former Director of Public Relations and External Affairs at PURC, has demanded the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to promptly release a timetable to manage the ongoing erratic power supply (Dumsor) plaguing parts of the country.

Jantuah stressed the importance of a timetable to guide ECG in prioritising critical areas such as hospitals and locations with vulnerable populations, as mandated by law.

She highlighted that a structured timetable could have prevented the heartbreaking incident at the Tema General Hospital, where a nursing mother lost her three-day-old baby due to medical equipment failure during a power outage.

The grieving mother, Rashida Abubakar Tetteh, recounted the devastating moment when doctors informed her of her child’s inability to survive without functional equipment powered by electricity.

“I went to visit my son, but I didn’t see him. I was waiting outside when one doctor came to inform me that they were sorry, but due to the lights out, my child could not survive because the incubator was not working.

“The lights went off on Tuesday evening. No staff has spoken to me, and they haven’t said anything to me,” Rashida Abubakar Tetteh stated.

In response to the incident, Nana Yaa Jantuah emphasised the necessity of ECG’s intervention through a clear timetable, ensuring essential services remain uninterrupted during power disruptions.

“The timetable will be good. I think what happened at the Tema General Hospital, if there was a timetable and it is with the ECG, the ECG knows the areas of their transformer and the feeders so they would take the hospitals and the critical places out.

“The law says you don’t have to put off the lights of the hospitals, a school, old people’s homes or even if there is a sick person in an area and it is known and the person needs electricity to store their drugs, who is beyond the age of 70 years, you don’t have to put off their light. But because it is being taken off at the bulk supply point over vast areas, GRIDCo who is doing it does not know who and who are where because they don’t deal with the customers, ECG deals with the customers so if they are taking off the power from their end certainly, they will know which areas to take, they will know which are the critical areas and which are not.”

Contrary to initial reports of fatalities linked to the outage at Tema General Hospital, the hospital has refuted these claims, assuring the public of its continued commitment to patient safety despite operational challenges caused by power interruptions.

As the nation grapples with the Dumsor crisis, stakeholders urge swift action from ECG to mitigate further disruptions and safeguard critical services.

I lost my virginity at the age of 35 – Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson reveals

Australian actress Rebel Wilson has shared a deeply personal revelation, disclosing that she lost her virginity at the age of 35.

Wilson, 44, hopes that by sharing her story in her upcoming memoir “Rebel Rising,” set to be released on April 2, she can send a “positive message” to others about the timing of such experiences.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Wilson emphasised that not everyone needs to lose their virginity during their teenage years.

“There was one vague time, I think I told my best friend, ‘Oh, yeah, I just did it to just get it over with when I was like 23,’” Wilson recounts. “Just to really avoid the questions.

“Normally I would just leave the room when the conversation was happening,” she continues. “And then the people that said, ‘Oh, at 24, it’s so late.’ And then I’m sitting here thinking, ‘Oh my god, my number’s 35. What the hell? I’m going to look like the biggest loser,” Rebel Wilson stated.

She encouraged individuals to wait until they feel ready or more mature, stressing that there should be no pressure on young people.

“It’s absolutely incredible, if I had been born 20 years later, I probably would’ve explored my sexuality more. I just knew I was attracted to men, and that was the normal thing,” recalls Wilson.

Wilson recalls avoiding discussions about the topic during her teenage years due to feeling embarrassed. She mentioned fabricating a vague story to her best friend about losing her virginity at 23 just to evade questions.

“And so when I started opening myself up probably more after my father’s death and realizing, oh, even though I’d seen marriage as a terrible thing and waste of time, I started opening myself up to that,” she adds. “And then only years later, meeting women and having feelings for a woman, and that, I just think it’s a sign of where society kind of was.”

The Pitch Perfect star acknowledges being a “late bloomer” but believes her experience would have been different if she were 20 years younger.

She reflects on her journey of self-discovery, including her attraction to men, eventually leading to exploring her sexuality further after her father’s passing.

Now engaged to designer Ramona Agruma and a proud mother to her first child, Royce Lillian, born via surrogate in November 2022, Wilson’s story serves as a testament to embracing one’s journey at their own pace.

Renowned actress and producer Yvonne Nelson has voiced her strong disapproval regarding the ongoing ‘dumsor’ crisis in the country, sparked by a recent incident at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Tema General Hospital.

In response to a viral video depicting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Tema General Hospital struggle with power cuts on Tuesday night, where a nurse highlighted the threat posed to incubated babies’ lives, Nelson criticized the government, labelling the country’s leaders as “wicked.”

Taking to social media, Nelson addressed President Nana Akufo-Addo directly, questioning how he could sleep at night amidst such crises and accusing the government of eight years of deception.

“I don’t even know what to type. Our leaders are wicked. @NAkufoAddo how do you sleep at night? 8 years of lies.”

Rapper Sarkodie also weighed in, attributing the situation to government misprioritization and expressing concern for the affected infants.

Tragically, the power outage reportedly led to the death of a newborn, according to Ramatu, a 24-year-old mother who recounted her devastating loss on TV3.

“I was supposed to go and visit my baby around 4 am this morning [Wednesday] so when I went there, I could not find my baby and the doctor told me to wait outside so I was outside and he came that they are sorry because I have lost my child due to the light out last night [Tuesday Night],” she told TV3’s Joseph Armstrong Gold Alorgbey.

However, the hospital has issued a statement denying any casualties directly linked to the power outage, with its Medical Director clarifying that no lives were lost due to the incident.

Appiah’s ambitious goal is to cover a staggering distance of 71,000 kilometres, sparking widespread attention and interest on social media.

Ghanaian chef, Failatu Abdul-Razak’s attempt to break the world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual was unsuccessful.

She had intended to beat the official 119-hour record set by Alan Fisher.

But in a press release posted on her Instagram page on Sunday, March 3, Chef Faila announced that her attempt did not meet some of the stringent guidelines set by the Guinness World Records (GWR).

“A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt,” part of the statement read.

The Guinness World Records says Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa failed to break the longest singing marathon she attempted in December 2023.

The GWR said this in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) adding that despite the setback they hope she makes another attempt.

“We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans…We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” they noted.

They added that the money Afua Asantewaa’s team paid for a priority review has been refunded.

The incident unfolded when the vendor, who preferred to remain anonymous, recounted the deceptive tactics employed by the impostor.

She described how he initially approached her with apparent politeness, engaging her in a discussion about spirituality and sharing what seemed like genuine religious teachings.

The vendor further stated that the fraudster even went as far as prophesying and offering spiritual guidance.

However, the situation took a different  turn when the fraudster, under the guise of exchanging contact information for further spiritual enlightenment, discreetly persuaded the vendor into handing over her phone.

To her shock and dismay, she discovered that a significant sum of 1,100 was transferred from her mobile money wallet without her consent.

Upon realising the deceitful act, the vendor sought assistance and alerted others in the vicinity about the fraudulent individual.

The thief attempted the same for another victim but was unsuccessful.

One such person, a lady who had also encountered the fake preacher, shared her experience.

She revealed that the impostor had falsely claimed to have insight into her life, including a fabricated pregnancy and purported spiritual hindrances surrounding it.

“I was told I’m pregnant by the fake pastor, I went to speak to my sister about it, and we all laughed and called out the fake pastor.”

Angered by the malicious deception and fraudulent activities, community members took matters into their own hands.

The vendor, empowered by a surge of frustration and a desire for justice, delivered a series of resounding slaps that brought the charade to an abrupt halt.

The government is seeking $100 million in private capital from investors to complete the Saglemi Affordable Housing project.

“I have instructed the technical working group on this housing project to proceed with an international expression of interest within the next five weeks. This initiative aims to attract private developers to finalise the project for utilisation,” stated the Minister for Works and Housing.

South African rapper AKA‘s death linked to prominent South African businessman

A shocking twist has emerged in the tragic case of the murder of popular rapper AKA, as a prominent businessman from a powerful South African family is now linked to the crime.

AKA, known by his real name Kiernan Forbes, along with his close friend Tibz Motsoane, was fatally shot outside a restaurant in Durban on February 10 last year.

According to details presented in court by the investigating officer, a company owned by businessman Sydney Mfundo Gcaba allegedly transferred over 800,000 rand ($42,000; £33,000) to the bank account of one of the suspects currently standing trial for the rapper’s killing.

This substantial payment was reportedly made just a day after AKA’s tragic death.

Further scrutiny of phone records revealed that the recipient of the funds, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, purportedly made a call to Mr. Gcaba before the transaction, raising suspicions of a deeper connection.

Despite these revelations, Mr. Gcaba has not yet provided any comment on the prosecutor’s claims.

The prosecution alleges that the transferred money was then evenly divided among seven suspects involved in the crime.

However, Mr. Gwabeni claims in an affidavit that the funds were payment for consultancy services he rendered to the company.

Yet, the prosecution argues that there is insufficient evidence to support this claim.

Sydney Mfundo Gcaba’s affiliation with the influential Gcaba family, renowned for their taxi empire and various businesses across South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, adds layers of complexity to the case.

As investigations continue, authorities are still piecing together the motive behind Mr. Gcaba’s alleged involvement in AKA’s tragic murder.

Flashback: Usher reveals hidden mystery about Diddy’s mansion

A 2016 interview featuring Usher has resurfaced, shedding light on his experiences living with Sean “Diddy” Combs for a year when he was just 13 years old.

The interview, which took place on The Howard Stern Show, showcased Usher’s insights into the lifestyle and environment he encountered while residing with Diddy in New York City.

During the interview, Usher mentioned “very curious things taking place” during his time with Diddy and recalled encountering famous artists like Biggie Smalls, Lil’ Kim, Craig Mack, Faith Evans, and Mary J. Blige.

He described the experience as “pretty wild” and admitted to staying up until the early hours partying with Diddy and his entourage.

“I got a chance to see some things,” Usher told Stern, 70, adding: “I went there to see the lifestyle — and I saw it.

“I don’t know if I could indulge and understand what I was even looking at. It was pretty wild.

“I can remember Outkast making their first records and being able to hear Rico [Wade] work on these songs, literally sleeping in this man’s living room, being in the dungeon, just kind of being around and just trying to figure out who’s who,” Usher recalled.

Despite the valuable lessons he learned about music and entrepreneurship during his time with Diddy, Usher made it clear that he would not send his children to “Puffy camp.”

“I got a tutor, went to New York City, and he began to show me the ropes,” Usher told PEOPLE. “Some of the most valuable lessons I could ever learn as an entrepreneur were picked up when I spent that time in New York with him, this unwavering desire to create and make certain that your creative ideas executed.”

He continued: “I saw him in the real time working it out, him building something from nothing, him understanding how culture and collaboration could build careers. Being able to see that, that’s what I got.

“Sex is so hot in the industry, man,” he explained. ‘There was always girls around. You’d open a door and see somebody doing it, or several people in a room having an orgy. You never knew what was going to happen.”

The resurfacing of this interview comes amidst recent raids on Diddy’s properties in Los Angeles and Miami by federal agents, related to ongoing investigations and allegations of sex trafficking.

Diddy’s lawyer has condemned the raids, stating that there is no basis for the accusations and emphasising Diddy’s innocence.

“There was a gross overuse of military-level force as search warrants were executed at Mr. Combs’ residences,” said attorney Aaron Dyer in a statement to PEOPLE. “There is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated.”

“This unprecedented ambush — paired with an advanced, coordinated media presence — leads to a premature rush to judgment of Mr. Combs and is nothing more than a witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits,” added Dyer.

The statement concluded, “There has been no finding of criminal or civil liability with any of these allegations. Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name.”

  • One reason Ghanaian celebrities get accidents often – Kwesi Ernest reveals

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Media Excel Productions and a prominent music producer, Kwesi Ernest has highlighted key factors contributing to accidents among celebrities.

In a recent appearance on the Nana Ama Onua show, Ernest discussed issues such as insufficient sleep, distractions from phone calls or social media like TikTok, and late-night driving as major contributors to accidents involving public figures.

He emphasised the demanding nature of the entertainment industry, where creatives often find themselves driving late at night due to work commitments.

However, Ernest advised celebrities to prioritise rest, especially before embarking on long journeys.

He suggested that celebrities consider hiring professional drivers to ensure safety on the road.

“Some celebrities travel at night because of their line of work, but they need to have enough sleep in the day, and stop watching TikTok videos. If possible celebrities can adopt the services of a driver,” Kwesi Ernest stated.

These remarks from Kwesi Ernest follow a recent accident involving musician Kuame Eugene.

The incident occurred near the DSTV office, close to the Dzorwulu traffic light in Accra.

While the current condition of Kuame Eugene remains undisclosed, reports indicate that he is receiving treatment and responding positively.

The insights shared by Kwesi Ernest shed light on the challenges faced by celebrities in maintaining their well-being amidst busy schedules and the importance of taking precautionary measures to prevent accidents.

EP Church in Bolgatanga suffers fire outbreak; four Bibles survive wreckage

The Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Church faced a devastating fire that resulted in widespread destruction, yet curiously spared a set of Bibles from harm.

The fire, which erupted during a time when the church was not in session, caused extensive damage to various items including drums, sound systems, projectors, furniture, and other valuable assets within the building.

Reverend Robert Awuah, the Bolgatanga District Pastor of E.P Church, recounted the incident during an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), revealing that the fire started around 0400 hours on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

Despite efforts by community volunteers, the blaze quickly escalated beyond control, necessitating the intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

Remarkably, amidst the destruction, a set of four Bibles placed on the altar remained untouched by the flames, prompting astonishment and intrigue among witnesses.

“Miraculously, everything burnt in the building except a set of four Bibles that were placed on the altar.

“The intensity of heat observed by the fire fighters from the main power source to the church suggested that the fire was caused by an electrical fault,” Reverend Robert Awuah stated.

Divisional Officer Grade Three (DOIII) Mr. Callistus Nibunu, Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer of GNFS, disclosed that preliminary investigations pointed to an electrical fault caused by a power surge as the likely origin of the fire.

He explained that fluctuations in power could lead to heightened voltage beyond the building’s wiring capacity, posing a fire hazard even when devices were switched off but still plugged in.

The incident underscores both the devastating impact of fires and the mysterious ways in which certain objects can escape destruction, leaving the community and church members grappling with both loss and inexplicable preservation.

  • Titanic ‘door’ prop that kept Rose alive sold for $718,750

Titanic ‘door’ prop that kept Rose alive sold for $718,750

The iconic floating piece of wood that famously kept Titanic‘s Rose alive in the blockbuster film has been sold for a staggering $718,750 (£569,739) at auction, reigniting discussions about its size and capability to accommodate Jack as well.

The auction, featuring props and costumes from various films, including the door panel, was conducted by restaurant and resort chain Planet Hollywood.

The panel, which has sparked debates among fans since the release of the 1997 movie, was highlighted in the listing as a subject of much discussion and speculation.

In Titanic, Leonardo Di Caprio’s character Jack insists that the panel, part of a door frame, was only large enough for Rose, played by Kate Winslet.

This leads to his tragic demise in the icy waters of the Atlantic.

James Cameron, the director of Titanic, addressed the ongoing debate in a 2012 episode of Mythbusters, acknowledging the criticism directed towards Rose’s character as “selfish” and Jack as an “idiot.”

However, he clarified that Jack’s fate was scripted, stating, “Maybe we screwed up and the board should have been a tiny bit smaller, but the dude’s going down.”

The prop, often mistakenly identified as a door, was actually based on a piece of debris from the actual 1912 Titanic disaster, according to Heritage Auctions, the auctioneers responsible for the sale.

Regarding the dimensions of the panel, the listing mentioned that it measures approximately 8 feet long (2.4 meters) and 41 inches wide (1 meter), addressing the ongoing debate about its size.

Alongside the Titanic panel, other notable items sold at the auction included Indiana Jones’s whip from The Temple of Doom, which fetched $525,000, and a Spider-Man suit worn by Tobey Maguire, sold for $125,000. An axe used by Jack Nicholson in The Shining also garnered $125,000.
The auction concluded on Sunday evening, raising a total of $15.68 million and marking one of the most successful sales of a prop and costume collection, as announced by Heritage Auctions’ Joseph Maddalena, who noted the numerous bidding wars that took place during the event.

  • Supreme Court dismisses application for an injunction against approving President Akufo-Addo’s new ministerial appointees

Supreme Court dismisses application for an injunction against approving President Akufo-Addo’s new ministerial appointees

The Supreme Court has rejected a petition seeking an injunction against the confirmation of President Akufo-Addo’s new ministerial appointees.

The petition, filed by Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, a legislator from South Dayi, was dismissed by the apex court, which labelled it as frivolous and an abuse of legal procedures.

Today’s proceedings at the Supreme Court were marked by intriguing developments as the court deliberated on the petition brought forward by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament.

The fate of recently nominated ministers and reshuffled appointees under President Akufo-Addo was hanging in the balance.

This petition was the basis on which the Speaker of Parliament had decided to postpone the approval of the new appointees following their vetting process.

Dafeamekpor, in his legal action against the Speaker of Parliament (the 1st defendant) and the Attorney General (the 2nd defendant), contended that the President should have sought parliamentary approval before reassigning ministers whose appointments were terminated.

President Akufo-Addo’s reshuffle on February 14, 2024, resulted in the removal of 13 ministers and 10 deputy ministers from their positions, while 6 others were reassigned to different portfolios.

During today’s court session, there was a notable absence of the applicant, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, and his legal representatives.

At one juncture, the court adjourned briefly to verify certain facts related to the case, particularly regarding whether the bailiff had properly served the parties, especially the Plaintiff, Mr. Dafeamekpor, with a hearing notice.

The Attorney General criticised the conduct of the MP’s lawyer, labelling it as the highest form of disrespect towards the apex court and as professional misconduct.

Despite the non-appearance of Mr. Dafeamekpor and his lawyer, the court proceeded with the case, leading to an interesting development as the NDC legislator’s attorney refused to accept court documents, including a hearing notice.

The legal representatives for the Speaker of Parliament opposed the injunction application, arguing that it did not meet the necessary requirements for an injunction to be granted.

Ultimately, the Supreme Court dismissed the case.

The panel of judges overseeing the case included Justice Kingsley Koomson, Justice Mariama Owusu, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo (Presiding), Justice Amadu Tanko, and Justice Yaw Darko Asare.

Despite the absence of Mr. Dafeamekpor’s legal team, the Supreme Court ruled against the injunction application.

NDC rejected me because I refused to be a part of a “scheme” for Prof Atta Mills to “give way” – Koku Anyidoho

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has levelled serious accusations against certain members of the NDC party, claiming they were actively plotting to remove the late President Prof Atta Mills from power.

In a series of tweets, Anyidoho asserted that he had resisted pressure to participate in a plan aimed at ousting Prof Atta Mills from the presidency.

He described this alleged scheme as an “evil agenda” and expressed gratitude for not being part of it.

“I refused to be recruited as part of the evil agenda to support ‘nature’ to ‘scheme’ for President Atta-Mills to ‘give way’,” Anyidoho tweeted, implying a calculated move against the current leadership.
The term “give way,” as defined by the Cambridge dictionary, typically refers to yielding space for others, often in the context of traffic.

However, in this political context, it seems to imply making room for a change in leadership.

  • Flashback: Akufo-Addo rents private jet to U.S at a staggering cost of $18,000 per hour

Flashback: Akufo-Addo rents private jet to U.S at a staggering cost of $18,000 per hour

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has once again ignited controversy after reportedly renting a private jet for his recent trip to the United States at a staggering cost of $18,000 per hour.

The president had received praise earlier for opting to travel on a commercial flight to Dubai, abandoning his usual luxurious private jet.

However, on his latest journey to the USA, he allegedly combined a commercial flight from Ghana with a high-cost private jet for the remainder of his trip in the US and later to London.

North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa raised concerns, revealing that the Ghanaian taxpayer could be footing a bill of up to US$465,000 for luxury rental charges alone.

This translates to approximately GHS3,505,515.49, adding to the significant expenses incurred by the president’s travels over time, amounting to at least GHS28.5 million since May last year.

Ablakwa criticised the president’s actions, questioning the priorities of spending such vast amounts on extravagant travels while the country faces economic challenges and widespread hardships.

He highlighted the contradiction between the government’s claims of cutting expenditures and the lavish spending on the president’s trips, including attending church services and tourism events abroad.

The MP also pointed out the apparent hypocrisy in enforcing bans on ministerial international travels while the presidency engages in costly travel arrangements.

The “meet-me-there-strategy” employed by President Akufo-Addo, where he appears to travel commercially but switches to chartered aircraft in transit, has been condemned as deceptive and a burden on taxpayers.

Ablakwa pledged to continue exposing such practices and advocating for transparency and accountability in governance.

The scrutiny on presidential expenditures and travel arrangements reflects ongoing concerns about fiscal responsibility and prudent use of public funds, especially in challenging economic times.

Below is the full write up by Okudzeto Ablakwa

    Good evening, folks.

I know many of you have been waiting keenly for our consistently unimpeachable and authoritative flight tracking details of President Akufo-Addo’s latest travel to the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

As always, we appreciate your high interest, generous encouragement and most importantly your patriotic partnership in ensuring that there is greater transparency and accountability in the governance of our dear and only country.

Unfortunately, I do not have good news for you. Our crusade to get the President to keep his promise of protecting the public purse and our resolve to end naked profligacy still requires more work.

With the pretentious notion that the obnoxious E-Levy has been secured to rake in more revenue to finance his lavish indulgences, and after hurriedly granting a presidential assent of dubious validity, as President Akufo-Addo knows very well that 136 NPP MPs cannot purport to constitute a decision-making quorum; President Akufo-Addo is back to his old ways of Russian Oligarchic travels.

After a momentary glimmer of hope when he was compelled to fly commercial to Dubai last month, many had thought his penchant for the egregious betrayal of the Ghanaian people by his obstinate dissipation of scarce taxes on his sybaritic lifestyle despite a hitherto loud promise to protect the public purse now belongs to the past. More so, considering his government’s public posture of massive expenditure cuts as a direct response to the current economic crisis.

Apparently, we were merely deceived; President Akufo-Addo has for the umpteenth time ignored the precarious state of the Ghanaian economy and abandoned Ghana’s US$36million Presidential Jet in favour of his most cherished ultra-luxury toy — the LX-DIO which now rents for US18,000 an hour.

It is clearly a helpless costly addiction that sadly, the Ghanaian taxpayer must pay for.

The President’s latest misconduct appears to be the most deceptive thus far.

His new “meet-me-there-strategy” is a well-hatched one to create the impression to Ghanaians back home that he’s indeed repented and is now committed to flying commercial only to catch up with his chartered aircraft in transit for the rest of his travels.

So, President Akufo-Addo left Accra for Washington on Thursday 31st March 2022 at 11:52 pm aboard a United Airlines Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with call sign UAL997.

Before the President landed at 6:40 am at the Dulles International Airport in Washington on the 1st of April, the ubiquitous luxury LX-DIO had landed at the same airport the previous day at 12:27 pm waiting for President Akufo-Addo.

President Akufo-Addo couldn’t wait to fly his favourite US$18,000 an hour LX-DIO from Washington where he departed at 10:13am and arrived at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina at 11:22 am — a flight time of 01:09. It is important to acknowledge that there were more than a dozen available commercial flights with business class tickets not exceeding $700 in value.

The President kept the LX-DIO with him as he addressed Bishop T.D. Jakes’ summit and then flew aboard the same extravagant jet yesterday the 2nd of April, 2022 at 9:28 am US time and arriving at the London Stansted Airport at 9:40 pm UK time. A flight time of some 7hours and 54minutes.

At this point, it is unclear if the President will return to Ghana with the LX-DIO on Wednesday or if he would stick to the new deceptive strategy of being seen in the Ghanaian jurisdiction aboard commercial flights while hiding his elaborate chartered arrangements from the prying Ghanaian public.

It is imperative to note that so far, the Ghanaian taxpayer must cough up an astronomical US$465,000 in luxury rental charges. At the current exchange, that is a scary GHS3,505,515.49.

This will mean that since May last year, the Ghanaian taxpayer has spent at least GHS28.5million on President Akufo-Addo’s ostentatious travels.

How duplicitous is that for a government that claims to be cutting expenditure drastically in the wake of widespread excruciating hardships and economic mismanagement, and yet our President has the conscience to spend a whopping 3.5million Ghana Cedis attending a church service and a fanciful tourism event in London?

With this terrible example from the President by attending events at great cost to the taxpayer that cannot be classified as a priority, one wonders how the presidency can enforce its recent ban on ministerial international travels.

Be assured, this latest “meet-me-there-strategy” shall be vigorously exposed and defeated.

Our tracking continues; we shall keep you updated.

For God and Country 🇬🇭 🙏🏽

Chief Justice Getrude Torkornoo is engaged in Judicial gangsterism – Sam George

Member of Parliament representing Ningo-Prampram constituency, Sam George has lambasted Ghana’s Chief Justice, accusing her of practising biassed justice administration.

The controversy revolves around the scheduling of court hearings, particularly the early hearing of Dafeamekpor’s case concerning President Akufo-Addo’s approval of new Ministers.

The ongoing debate over the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which has been approved by parliament and awaits President Akufo-Addo’s assent, has further fueled discussions.

President Akufo-Addo has pointed to Richard Dela Sky’s court suit as a reason for delaying his decision on enacting the bill into law.

The issue causing concern is the precedence given to Dafeakmekpor’s case in the court system, despite Richard Dela Sky’s suit being filed earlier.

Sam George expressed his discontent on Twitter, labelling Chief Justice Torkornoo’s actions as “judicial gangsterism.”

Sam George believes that the Chief Justice’s alleged biased conduct undermines the principles of justice and poses a threat to the rule of law.

He emphasized the importance of a fair, equitable, and impartial justice system, calling for condemnation of any actions that could jeopardize the integrity of the judicial process.

“There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the current Chief Justice is engaged in judicial thuggery and poses an existential threat to the dispensation of justice in an equitable, fair, and just manner. Such partisan behavior at the apex of our judiciary must not be entertained and must be condemned with all the force reasonable people can muster. Judicial gangsterism is a precursor for the breakdown in the dispensation of justice and the doctrine of the rule of law. Common sense ought to be an ingredient in the dispensation of justice,” Sam George stated.

According to Sam George, the Chief Justice’s alleged partisan behaviour undermines justice and poses a threat to the rule of law.

I hardly win awards in Nigeria because I always turn down sex requests – Yemi Alade

Nigerian music star Yemi Alade has recently spoken out about the challenges faced by women in the country’s entertainment scene, specifically addressing the issue of sexual harassment and its impact on career recognition.

Alade asserted that her refusal to engage in sexual activities with men in the industry has led to her being overlooked for awards and opportunities.

In her candid statement, Alade highlighted the pervasive nature of sexual advances in the Nigerian entertainment sector, stating, “There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to sleep with me, and it was like, ‘Yemi, if you don’t do this, you won’t have that.’ Today, men are the reason I don’t win awards in Nigeria.”

The artist went on to explain that she made a conscious decision to prioritise her dignity and integrity over compromising her principles for professional gains.

This choice, according to Alade, resulted in numerous missed opportunities and a lack of recognition from industry award shows.

“going down with men was like a bridge I had to cross to get on some platforms, get some deals and even awards. When I made my decision never to engage in sexual activities for gains, lots of opportunities were automatically blocked for me.

“Ask yourself why Yemi Alade who is the most viewed and most subscribed Nigerian female artiste on YouTube gets almost no recognition from award shows year after year. Even during twitter debates, no one mentions Yemi Alade as one of the biggest female artistes in Nigeria.

“They really blocked everything for me. But I’m glad coz I have my dignity, I have my life, I’m making cool cash and above all, I have fans who love me so much,” Yemi Alade stated.

Despite these challenges, Alade remains resilient and grateful for her devoted fan base, acknowledging that while some doors may have closed due to her stance, she values the support and love she receives from her fans.

The acclaimed singer’s remarks shed light on a broader issue within Nigeria’s entertainment landscape, prompting discussions about the treatment of women and the importance of merit-based recognition in the industry.

  • 8 reasons accidents happen in Ghana according to Music Producer, Kwesi Ernest

8 reasons accidents happen in Ghana according to Music Producer, Kwesi Ernest

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Media Excel Productions and a prominent music producer, Kwesi Ernest has shed light on the critical factors that contribute to road accidents in Ghana.

During a recent discussion, he emphasised eight key elements that significantly contribute to these accidents.

The factors highlighted by Kwesi Ernest include potholes, inadequate street lighting, a lack of road signs, faulty traffic lights, oversized speed ramps, deficiencies in the driver’s licensing system, the excessive use of mobile phones while driving, and driving while fatigued.

Of these, institutional negligence stands out as a major concern, with many roads suffering from a lack of proper road signs, poorly aligned roads, and inadequate road ramps, among other issues.

Kwesi Ernest stressed that addressing these issues, especially poor road ramps and institutional negligence, should be a top priority in efforts to reduce road accidents in Ghana.

“A number of factors cause road accidents such as Potholes, inadequate street lighting, little to no road signs, faulty traffic lights, huge speed ramps, poor driver’s licensing system, excessive use of mobile phone. Poor road ramps and intuitional negligence must be addressed above all matters,” Kwesi Ernest stated.
