Legendary rapper Kwame Nsiah-Apau known professionally as Okyeame Kwame expressed disappointment in the current state of hiplife in Ghana, asserting that the genre is in a coma.
Okyeame Kwame asserted he bears responsibility for not passing it on to the next generation.
In an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, Okyeame Kwame explained that the lack of young artists interested in carrying the torch for hiplife is a major issue.
He further admitted that he and other pioneers have failed the younger generation of hiplife artists.
Comparing the success of hiplife in the Western world to Ghana, Okyeame Kwame emphasised that not enough has been done to uphold the genre in Ghana.
He noted that the passing of the mantle, as seen with artists like Big Daddy Kane and Jay Z, has not been effectively implemented in Ghana.
“People like myself have failed the young generation completely, because when I took on the mantle of hiplife in 1996, the last thing I knew was anthropology, sociology or marketing. I didn’t know I was supposed to carry this thing upfront and give it to someone else.
“This thing we’re doing, this is not how it’s done. Big Daddy Kane will carry to a point and give it to Jay Z, Jay Z will give it to another person, another person will give it to Kanye, that is how we keep it moving,” Okyeame Kwame stated.

27 years ago, father of the late Herbert Wigwe, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Shyngle Wigwe grappled with the heart-wrenching loss of his first son.
Herbert Wigwe’s brother, Osita Wigwe, tragically lost his life in a road accident while travelling from Lagos to Port Harcourt.
Shyngle and his wife Stella revealed the details during an interview with TheCable in 2018, expressing the profound grief and sorrow they experienced during that dark period.
Recalling the pain of losing his first son, Shyngle shared, “I never sweated like that in my life before and I didn’t think it was going to happen to me. For weeks, I couldn’t go up to the altar. I went, then I wept, and I came down. It was like somebody took a pair of forceps to draw out your heart from you,” he said.
“That boy was one in a million. He had the attributes of a daughter; he had the attributes of a son. He was a solution provider to all family problems. If I had him, I thought I had everything. For quite some time, I didn’t feel life was worth living anymore. We spoke as brothers, not as father and son.”
A recent tragedy has once again left the family and close associates devastated.
Shyngle Wigwe’s second son, Herbert Wigwe lost his life in a helicopter crash in the United States on February 9th.

Despite being willing to make sacrifices, she emphasised the importance of mutual understanding in a relationship.
Recalling a specific instance, she recounted how she had to let go of a relationship because her partner expressed displeasure about her involvement in comedy.
“I pray to God everyday to give me somebody who will understand that this is my job. I am not saying I am not willing to make sacrifices but at least if I understand you, you too you need to understand me.
“I’ve been in a situation where I’ve had to let a relationship go because he told me ‘this your comedy’, I don’t want to say the rest of the things he said. I just said ‘okay’ and that was it,” Jacinta stated.
In the broader context, many creative women, especially those in showbiz, often face challenges in their relationships.
Some feel compelled to abandon their creative pursuits to accommodate their spouses’ demands, while others prioritise family responsibilities over their careers.
Addressing the topic of taking her future husband’s surname and incorporating it into her stage name, Jacinta dismissed the idea as unnecessary.
She questioned the need for such a practice and humorously remarked that she might update her Instagram profile, highlighting the nonchalant attitude toward adopting a spouse’s surname for professional purposes.

Ghanaian artist Raphael Camidoh Kofi Attachie known by the stage name Camidoh recently shared valuable insights into the music industry during an interview on “Uncut with D-Black,” emphasizing the need for a proactive approach.
Reflecting on his hit song “Sugarcane,” Camidoh highlighted the dedicated and persistent nature of Nigerian artists, noting that their enthusiasm served as motivation for him.
He recounted a learning experience where a Nigerian musician persuaded a studio owner to allow him to record even after closing hours.
In drawing a comparison, Camidoh expressed his belief that Ghanaians could benefit from adopting a more assertive and determined approach, similar to their Nigerian counterparts.
He remarked, “We’re not as exploiting as Nigerians. That’s the only problem. When I put out Sugar Cane, I remember how I used to call people every day. ‘You don’t do some TikTok video. What’s up?’ because that’s what Nigerians are. That’s who they are. Like, they go pursue you, make you do what you have to do.
“It’s about the drive. Because you can now make me want to do something, even though I didn’t want to do it. It’s about you. How much do you want it? And that’s one thing I work with. When I saw that guy’s drive, I said to myself that even if the store was closed, I can make them sell to me. And that’s one thing I feel like many Ghanaians don’t have. For me, it’s about, do you want this song to be played? If you want it to be played, go to that DJ. Make it happen,” Camidoh stated.
Camidoh emphasized the importance of drive and determination, citing how Nigerians actively pursue opportunities for their music.
He urged Ghanaian musicians to take initiative, engage with their craft, approach DJs, and seize control of their success, echoing the proactive ethos prevalent in the Nigerian music scene.

In a recent interview on Showbiz A-Z, Boakye-Mensah discussed the challenges and opportunities faced by female creatives in Ghana and beyond, expressing concern over the prevalence of conflicts among women in the industry.
Boakye-Mensah highlighted the contrast between male and female approaches, noting that men in the industry effectively utilise conflicts to promote their upcoming works.
She emphasised the need for women to channel their energy towards uplifting and promoting each other rather than participating in divisive social media spats.
“I find it so sad that in the creative space, as women, we cannot even be each other’s champions. Half of the non-essential beefs and fights that happen on social media are led by women.
“How many times do you even see guys beefing? The guys have figured it all out. All their beefs are geared towards music promotion or movies coming out, and then they create that buzz around it.
“But for us, what do we do? We drag each other down, call each other names, and say nasty things about each other when we can use it to project each other.”
“If we were each other’s champions, each other’s keepers, and each other’s friends, we would be the most powerful in this industry,” she asserted, advocating for a more supportive and collaborative environment among women in the creative arts,” Whitney Boakye-Mensah stated.

In a recent interview on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz Saturday, the ‘God is working’ hitmaker questioned the societal intolerance towards gospel artists supporting a political party, especially during an election year.
Brempong emphasised that musicians can be partisan and still connect with a polarised society.
He urged Ghanaians to be more accepting of divergent political views, highlighting the potential harm of intolerance to the nation’s survival.
The artist stressed that gospel musicians, as individuals with their own ideologies, can identify with a political party without compromising their ministry.
He urged for greater acceptance of artists supporting a party, emphasising Ghanaians’ ability to tolerate such affiliations.
Brempong criticised the hypocrisy and vilification faced by individuals who openly support a political party.
He called for an end to such practices and emphasised the need for a more inclusive and tolerant society.
Additionally, the gospel artist disclosed that he does not receive financial support from his church for his pastoral duties.
He expressed his desire not to be a financial burden to his church and revealed that he relies on multiple streams of revenue, aside from his music career, to sustain himself.
“As much as the gospel musician is an individual, has ideologies, and can identify with the ideologies of a political party, the gospel musician can belong to a political party.
“But the other thing is when you know that the people your ministry is for are cross-partisan and that you align with this party, especially in Ghana.
“Ghanaians can tolerate the idea of gospel musicians supporting a party. I don’t know why it is,”Akesse Brempong stated.

Calling attention to the need for streamlined operations within GHAMRO, the gospel artist urged authorities to establish systems that expedite the collection and distribution of royalties.
He emphasised the necessity for GHAMRO to address issues surrounding the transparency and efficiency of royalty collection and distribution across the country.
GHAMRO, established under section 49 of the Copyright Law, Act 690 of 2005, functions as a royalty collection agency representing the rights of music copyright holders.

According to Forson, some men purposefully choose young or financially reliant partners to exert influence over them.

In her tweet on the platform formerly known as Twitter, Forson asserted, “Some men know EXACTLY what they’re doing when they pick young girls or those who don’t have to spend on. It’s about power and control. It’s why they get so aggressive when they can’t control them any longer. It’s also why they don’t like women who have their own money!!”
Lydia Forson is a Ghanaian actress, writer, and producer.
In 2010 she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Wiyaala’s popular track, “Village Sex,” secured the 419th position. Known for her infectious voice in native Sisaala and Waala dialects, Wiyaala’s song promotes the tradition of abstaining from sex until after marriage, resonating with audiences and earning its place on the prestigious list.
The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama emphasized his commitment to avoiding empty promises in his campaign, distinguishing himself from the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) approach to securing power.
Citing the challenging state of Ghana’s economy, Mahama expressed reluctance to make unrealistic commitments, asserting, “I don’t want to be like those dishonest people who came and promised you heaven.”
Addressing the concerns of pre-tertiary teachers in Tamale, Mahama acknowledged the economic difficulties they face.
“The economy is in a big mess and so I cannot promise everybody that we are going to increase your salaries and all that.
“I don’t want to be like those dishonest people who came and promised you heaven and said they would build factories in every district, they would build dams in every village, they would give every constituency one million dollars a year, I’m not that kind of person,” he explained.
Although he refrained from promising salary increments, he highlighted the critical issue of inadequate accommodation for teachers in rural communities.
“But we have suggested a solution for all this, we will help you with accommodation in some of the schools, so that more teachers can stay in school.”
Mahama pledged that, if elected, his government would prioritize providing suitable housing for teachers posted to such areas, aiming to alleviate the challenges they currently encounter.
Mahama further noted the reluctance of many teachers to accept postings in rural communities due to the lack of accommodation, resulting in substantial expenditures on daily commutes.
He stressed the importance of stakeholders understanding the country’s economic reality and pledged to promote transparency if he assumes power.
By doing so, Mahama aims to discourage unrealistic demands and foster a pragmatic approach to addressing Ghana’s challenges.

Renowned Ghanaian-Americanfilm director, Kuukua Eshun, shed light on the obstacles hindering women’s progress in the film production sector.
Eshun revealed that a significant barrier arises from resistance by some men who are uncomfortable with women assuming leadership roles in the movie industry.
Sharing a personal experience, Eshun recalled an incident on set where male cinematographers held a secret meeting without her knowledge to make critical decisions, bypassing her authority as the director.
“The challenge is that I’m a new thing for most people often times I’m working with men who are older than me and a hundred people for a production and 80 per cent or 90 percent are men and older than me and that’s hard.
“I’ve had a production where the men will literally go out and go and have meetings like the cinematographers they bound together and had a meeting without me and wanted to make some technical decisions.
“I was like you are on the set because I hired you…afterwards I called the cinematographers and told them I don’t like what that was. I don’t think you are a bad person but I think that you have to be more aware. I know that you are used to working with men but I am here now and let’s adjust,” she narrated.
She expressed the difficulty of being a pioneering figure in a male-dominated field, where the majority of her colleagues are older men.
Eshun emphasised the importance of unity within the creative community to overcome these challenges.
Addressing the issue of dealing with men attempting to undermine her, she highlighted her confidence and dominant personality, opting to assert herself through feminine leadership rather than resorting to masculine energy.
“I am a very confident woman and a very dominant person and very solid in what I want so I will let them now. I don’t think I would have to tap into masculine energy but I think I will tap into my feminine boss energy and that’s good enough to go.”
Calling for collective action, Eshun stressed the need for creatives in the industry to recognize and believe in the wealth of talent within Ghana and the broader African continent.
“I think that the idea of exposure and community building and uniting and coming together its powerful but if we don’t first of all have to recognise what we have as creative people on the continent in Ghana and believe in what we have.”

The healing song, ministered by the group, left her unable to stand due to the overwhelming impact.
Another testimonial came from a man in Manchester who, after being deported from Italy, faced mental trauma.
“And another man in Manchester he was an MC for the program we attended. He was in Italy and deported to Ghana as soon as he got to Ghana, he was mentally affected by the situation. But where he used to stay one person was consistently playing our songs and he will go and stand behind the window, listen and be dancing until the music stops.
“One day he was listening to the song and all he saw was he was not himself and took his bath and realized he was healed. So he even shared his testimony before he even started hosting the program in Manchester,” she narrated.
The man shared how, while residing in Ghana, he listened consistently to the group’s songs, and one day, during a session, he realised he was healed.

However, recent developments affirm the conclusive end of their once-solid friendship.
Notably, some individuals had previously cautioned Tonto Dikeh about the potential betrayal from Afia Schwarzenegger.

So, if you are a woman and you think you’re rude, and you plan to attack me for sharing an opinion about you, come forth, and I will insult and deal with you ruthlessly.”
