  • Pogba deserved the ban? Graeme Souness slams Pogba’s “stinking attitude” after doping ban

Former Liverpool midfielder and television pundit Graeme Souness has strongly criticised Paul Pogba’s four-year ban from football.

Souness, who has frequently expressed his disapproval of Pogba during his tenure as a television pundit, has once again voiced his opinion on the matter.

The former Liverpool star, who achieved significant success in his playing career with five league titles and three European Cups, has reiterated his stance on the situation involving the former Manchester United midfielder, who is currently sidelined due to a four-year ban for doping violations.

The told the Telegraph: “With Pogba, I was frustrated with him because I saw someone who had all that talent, all that physical prowess that you see in a magnificent athlete, but had a stinking attitude. I could talk now for 10 minutes on it but the bottom line is, he didn’t work hard enough.

The worst thing that could have happened to him was winning the World Cup as a young man. That put him firmly in a great, big, comfy armchair. He was no longer up for doing the hard yards, he thought it was all about him doing clever, eye-catching things on the football pitch.

“Every time I played, I had one thought in my head: I’m going to be better than the guy I’m playing against. I’m going to have a better day than he does. And the starting point for that is working harder than him. I don’t think Paul Pogba ever had that attitude. It was all about showing how clever and cute I can be. It would have been very easy to play against him because he never worked on you. He didn’t stop you from playing.

“I take no pleasure in what has happened to him because he was an extremely talented young man who had everything to be remembered as one of the great midfield players in world football. But he won’t be remembered for that, unfortunately. He will be remembered for being banned for drugs and being a near-miss.”

It remains uncertain whether Pogba will return to the field, considering he will be nearly 34 years old when his ban concludes. However, he plans to appeal the decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Pogba, known for his achievements such as winning the World Cup with France in 2018 and securing titles in Serie A with Juventus and the Europa League with Manchester United, faces the possibility of ending his career in disgrace due to the lengthy ban.

Many believe that, despite his exceptional talent, Pogba has failed to reach his full potential. Recently, he has spoken openly about his challenges, expressing that he has experienced significant personal growth within a year.

There’s still hope for Pogba’s future in football, as France manager Didier Deschamps has had discussions with him and hopes to see him return to the pitch eventually.

Elmina Ampenyi CHPS compound allegedly sold; residents express worry

Community-Based Health, Planning, and Service (CHPS) compound space in Ampenyi, part of the Edina Traditional Area, is reportedly sold to a private developer named John Kwaku Aduafo.

This has raised concerns among residents as the facility is vital, serving a population of over 2,000 people. Originally a primary school, the structure has been providing health services to the community.

However, the lack of proper shelter for patients and visitors has become a major issue, forcing them to endure long hours under the scorching sun.

Attempts by a philanthropist to address the situation were halted by the assembly after the private developer claimed ownership. This has caused anger and confusion among residents.

Health workers also struggle, often resorting to makeshift shelters due to prolonged sun exposure.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Solomon Appiah, stated that the assembly would not intervene, urging amicable resolution.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Ampenyi, Nana Takyi Akyin IV, denied involvement in the sale, presenting conflicting receipts compared to the developer’s.

Despite efforts to discredit the sale, residents call for government intervention, fearing adverse effects, especially with the approaching rainy season.

Attempts to reach the private developer were unsuccessful.

“Yes, we can end TB” – Health Director says if detected, treated early

Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang, has emphasized the importance of seeking early medical attention for tuberculosis (TB) symptoms.

Speaking at the launch of a one-week awareness campaign for World Tuberculosis Day in Kumasi on March 25, 2024, Dr. Tinkorang highlighted TB as a significant public health concern in Ghana and worldwide.

He stressed the need for collaborative efforts from all stakeholders in combating the epidemic. Dr. Tinkorang pointed out that many individuals fail to recognize TB symptoms promptly, leading to complications if left untreated.

Globally, March 24 is designated as TB Day, aiming to raise awareness about the severe health, social, and economic impacts of the disease.

This year’s theme was “Yes, We Can End TB.” This implies that if urgent efforts and commitments are stepped up, the epidemic can be eradicated.

Dr. Tinkorang identified bacteria as the primary culprits behind tuberculosis, categorizing them into two types: pulmonary, which targets the lungs exclusively, and extra-pulmonary, which can affect various body parts.

He revealed that his department has broadened access to TB services by supplying vital medications and diagnostic equipment for the treatment and support of affected individuals.

Stressing the importance of promoting social and behavioral changes, the Health Director emphasized the need to combat stigma and reduce mortality rates associated with the disease.

PURC makes public its orders to ECG

Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has provided an update on the progress of directives issued to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on March 19, 2024.

According to the PURC, three out of the five tasks assigned to the power distribution company have been completed.

Earlier, the Commission had mandated ECG to submit a comprehensive report on various aspects of its operations, including tariff revenue allocation and regulatory audit data, by April 2, 2024.

Additionally, ECG was instructed to distribute funds from the Cash Waterfall Mechanism (CWM) by March 25, 2024.

These directives were issued under Sections 3 and 24 of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission Act, 1997 (Act 538), in response to concerns raised by the PURC regarding declining service quality and increased power outages across ECG service areas since January 1, 2024.

However, in a press release dated March 26, PURC disclosed that ECG has yet to fulfill its obligation of making payments to energy sector players along the electricity value chain.

The statement further stressed that “PURC shall validate all payments made along the electricity value chain for an approval month and publish it on the PURC website not later than the second week of the following month.”

But this validation can only be done when payments to the energy sector players have been completed.

  • Spanish prosecutors request two-and-a-half-year jail term for Luis Rubiales over Hermoso kiss saga

Spanish prosecutors request two-and-a-half-year jail term for Luis Rubiales over Hermoso kiss saga

Spanish prosecutors have requested a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Luis Rubiales for allegedly kissing Jenni Hermoso without her consent.

Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), kissed Hermoso after Spain’s Women’s World Cup final victory against England last year.

Despite Hermoso denying consent, Rubiales maintained his innocence and refused to step down, leading to his suspension by FIFA and eventual replacement at the helm of the RFEF.

The prosecutors’ office in Spain seeks one year in prison for sexual assault and an additional 18 months for coercion against Rubiales.

They also propose a four-year ban on contacting Hermoso or coming within 200 meters of her. Rubiales is not the only individual facing legal consequences.

RFEF directors Albert Luque and Ruben Rivera, along with former Spain women’s head coach Jorge Vilda, could also serve a year-and-a-half in prison for coercion in attempting to calm tensions surrounding Rubiales.

Additionally, Rubiales is ordered to compensate Hermoso with €50,000 for sexual assault, with an additional €50,000 for coercion from him and the other three individuals involved.

Apart from the Hermoso incident, Rubiales faces legal issues related to corruption allegations concerning a deal with Saudi Arabia, which has led to a warrant for his arrest.

Ghanaian traders in Ivory Coast refuse to return to Ghana, say life is better there

Asamoah, a Ghanaian trader residing in Ivory Coast, recently shared his perspective on the economic disparities between Ghana and Ivory Coast.

Speaking to a TV3 journalist, Asamoah highlighted the stability of prices in Ivory Coast compared to Ghana, noting that the cost of goods remains relatively consistent over time.

“I’ve been here since 2019, so it’s been about 5 years. But the prices we pay in CFA francs, which is equivalent to about GH2.50 pesewas in Ghana, have remained the same,” Asamoah remarked.

Other traders echoed Asamoah’s sentiments, expressing their satisfaction with the business environment and development opportunities in Ivory Coast.
“There are many advantages here in terms of business and infrastructure. Ghana’s road network cannot compete,” one trader stated.

Another trader emphasized the importance of comfort and opportunity in determining one’s place of residence. “Life in Ghana is challenging. Moving to Ivory Coast has proven to be the right choice. You should live where you feel comfortable,” they remarked.

Despite the favorable conditions in Ivory Coast, some traders indicated their intentions to eventually return to Ghana, underscoring the complexity of factors influencing migration and economic decision-making among West African traders.

NDC Youth Organizer for Okaikwei North, Osman Mahmud, strongly denies allegations linking the party to the vandalization of billboards belonging to the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei North, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei.

Mahmud clarified that the incident occurred following a prior act of vandalism against John Dramani Mahama’s billboard earlier in the year, carried out by unidentified individuals.

In response to this incident, the NDC issued a stern warning against such actions and reaffirmed their commitment to their campaign for the 2024 elections without assigning blame, he explained.

He expressed surprise at accusations made by the NPP’s parliamentary candidate and constituency organizer against the incumbent MP, Theresa Awuni, regarding the recent vandalism of their billboards.

Emphasizing the NDC’s dedication to peaceful campaigning, Mahmud cautioned the NPP against unfounded attacks to avoid escalating tensions into violence.

“We know our MP, Theresa Awuni, she has never been violent. John Mahama’s billboard was demolished and we issued a warning against it as we believe in peace. I don’t even know where this is coming from, it is not our habit. We are busy campaigning to want to destroy billboards.

“Akuapem North MP is struggling to introduce herself to Okaikoi North constituents by destroying her own billboards for sympathy. We sent a message against the demolishing of the billboards and that’s all. We don’t have time to go around destroying. Dokua is violent, she sent people to destroy the billboards since they say they suspect Theresa’ team, we also believe they destroyed Mahama’s billboard,” he added in an interview.

Man City mull Kalvin Phillips’ exit – Sources

Kalvin Phillips is likely to leave Manchester City at the end of the season, sources have told ESPN’s Rob Dawson.

The midfielder’s career has stalled ever since he joined City from Leeds United in 2022, starting only two Premier League matches since making his £42 million transfer.

Phillips, 28, joined West Ham United on loan in January in a bid to revive his career and secure a place in the England squad for Euro 2024, but his struggles have continued since moving to London.

City have insisted that Phillips could still have a future at the club, but sources have told ESPN that the more likely outcome is that he leaves permanently at the end of the season.

Reports have suggested that, at some stage, Rodri could return to Spain, but there’s little confidence that Phillips can step up and take over when the time comes and it’s likely that City manager Pep Guardiola has already seen enough anyway.

  • Man City’s 115 charges: New evidence emerge likely to affect treble winners

Man City’s 115 charges: New evidence emerge likely to affect treble winners

Man City’s upcoming trial concerning their 115 Financial Fair Play (FFP) charges may face implications due to new revelations involving the club’s sponsors.

The 2023 Treble winners are accused of breaching FFP regulations on multiple occasions, with Etihad Airways reportedly playing a significant role in these breaches.

According to German outlet Der Spiegel (via The Mirror), it is alleged that the Emirati airline only paid £8 million ($10.1m) of their £67.5m ($85.3m) obligation to City, with the remainder covered by disguised equity funding from the club’s owners.

However, recent reports suggest that these claims may not hold true following Etihad Airways’ decision to go public by floating on the stock exchange.

Sources in the Middle East, as cited in The Mirror, indicate that this move would necessitate an Initial Public Offering (IPO) for Etihad, requiring full disclosure of their financial records and corporate practices.

Stock market experts believe that such transparency would not be offered if Etihad, and consequently City’s owners, had anything to conceal.

In essence, if fraud had indeed occurred, as has been suggested, it is unlikely that Etihad would willingly subject itself to such scrutiny.

A senior figure in the banking industry is quoted in The Mirror’s article as saying: “If it came to light that Etihad executives were indeed involved in manipulating the sponsorship deal with City, it could cause serious damage to the company’s reputation in the eyes of potential investors. Etihad would also have an obligation to disclose any ongoing investigation into the company’s accounts or conduct before the IPO was launched.

“What the Premier League is alleging is extremely serious, not just in terms of football’s rules and regulations. The accusation is that City executives have colluded with officials from Etihad and have lied not only to the club’s independent auditors but to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

“By extension, that also calls into question what information was disclosed by City’s owners to Silverlake before the American private equity firm bought a significant stake in the club in 2019. That’s why the Premier League’s allegations go way beyond accusing City of failing to meet Profit and Sustainability Rules.”

The Premier League champions persist in asserting their innocence, believing that this evidence will significantly bolster their defense against the 115 charges leveled against them. The trial to investigate City’s alleged misconduct is tentatively scheduled for late autumn of this year, at the earliest.

Luis Diaz’s father alerts Real Madrid to potential La Liga move for Liverpool winger

Luis Diaz’s father has sparked interest from Real Madrid by suggesting that the Liverpool winger might consider a move to La Liga down the line.

Despite having a contract with Liverpool until 2027, the Colombia international has been the subject of transfer rumors, particularly with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly eyeing him as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

Now, his father, Mane Diaz, has hinted at the possibility of a future move to La Liga for the Reds’ star. Real Madrid, who have previously been linked with Diaz, could be enticed to revisit their interest following his father’s remarks.

Speaking to Cadena SER, Mane Diaz said: “When he left Porto I was not aware that there was anything positive with Madrid clubs. I heard things, but I never knew if there was anything else. With Liverpool everything was more precise.

“The directive was more precise for Luis to arrive there. It was hoped that he could come here [to Spain]. Radamel Falaco had already been there, James Rodriguez too… In the end it didn’t happen, but don’t give up hope yet. He is playing and the clubs are active.”

The 27-year-old is poised to make his comeback to Anfield following an impressive performance for Colombia during the international break. He is scheduled to feature for Jurgen Klopp’s team in a crucial Premier League match against Brighton on Sunday.

  • Not easy, but Mohammed Ali is my inspiration – Andre Onana amid turbulent debut season at Man Utd

Not easy, but Mohammed Ali is my inspiration – Andre Onana amid turbulent debut season at Man Utd

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana draws inspiration from Muhammad Ali and believes in his team’s potential to achieve success.

Despite facing criticism for some costly errors earlier in his debut season with the club, Onana has shown improvement since his return from the AFCON campaign with Cameroon.

He attributes his mental strength, inspired by Ali, as a significant factor in his resilience and determination.

He told Inside United: “It’s his mindset. It was nothing easy. He had to pass through a lot of difficulties and he was only looking at the positive side, the positive parts. He was very positive and that is what I like.

“You know, no matter what happens in life, I’ve always said that it cannot rain forever: the sun will shine. And yet, the sun will not shine forever; the rain will come. So just find a good balance, especially when you are a football player.

“When you have a bad day, a better day will come. It’s not when you are having a bad day that you feel it will never change. It will change but it’s not because you are having a good day that it will stay forever.

“Everything is temporary and you have to know how to manage that. When you are in a bad mood, take a positive. When you are in a good mood, take a positive. Just enjoy yourself, be happy, be with the people you love and always stay positive.”

Onana also expressed his belief that United can go on and achieve tangible success: “I’m very happy to be here, like I said, I’m happy to be part of this family, a big group with great guys, young players, there’s some amazing ability here. It will come, you know. Principles: do your hard work, be positive and believe in yourself. It will come.”

It has been a gradual process for Onana to adjust to life at Old Trafford, as he admitted it took him around “six to seven months” to feel settled after his transfer.

Manchester United has faced a challenging season overall, currently sitting in sixth place in the Premier League, trailing nine points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Their disappointing European campaign saw them eliminated from the Champions League after finishing at the bottom of their group.

With their only remaining chance for silverware in the FA Cup, United will be aiming to capitalise on their recent 4-3 victory over Liverpool and progress to the final, where they will face Championship side Coventry City in the semi-finals.

“Maybe he wanted to dance” – Aymeric Laporte’s reaction to Vini Junior’s remarks on racism

Spain defender Aymeric Laporte responded online to an incident involving Vinicius Junior during their 3-3 draw with Brazil.

In the match, Vinicius Junior was seen pushing Laporte in the back, following an emotional press conference where the Real Madrid player addressed the racial abuse he has faced.

“I just want to play football,” Vinicius also told reporters as he prepared for the game at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Those comments were used to mock Vinicius after the game.

A post on X showed a video of the incident along with the message: “I just want to play football” and a series of emojis. Spain defender Laporte surprisingly responded with the comment: “Maybe he wanted to dance”.

Vinicius took the captain’s armband for Brazil in a match against Spain, a response to the racism he has faced this season.

Before kickoff, the team sported tops emblazoned with the slogan “One skin, one identity.” The game ended in a draw, salvaged by Lucas Paqueta’s 97th-minute equalizer.

Receiving a standing ovation upon his substitution in the 70th minute, Vinicius has openly expressed the toll racism has taken on his desire to play.

Nevertheless, he remains determined to push forward and aims to achieve further success this season. Real Madrid, currently leading La Liga by eight points, are poised to take on Manchester City in the Champions League quarterfinals.

  • Fans are real and fair – Jose Mourinho on Chelsea fans’ chants for his return

Fans are real and fair – Jose Mourinho on Chelsea fans’ chants for his return

Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho has responded to chants from Chelsea fans urging him to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

During Chelsea’s recent Premier League match against Brentford, some disgruntled fans were heard chanting Mourinho’s name.

The former Chelsea manager, who is currently without a club following his departure from AS Roma, has acknowledged the fans’ calls as a “fair” reaction to the club’s current challenges.

Speaking to Fabrizio Romano, Mourinho said: “The first feeling is I always say that the best thing football has is the fans. Because the fans don’t make money with football – they spend money with football! Sometimes they spend money that the family needs and they make sacrifices because of their passion for football, especially for the passion for their clubs.

“So normally, they are fair. When the club’s fans don’t like the players or don’t like the coach, for some reason, it’s not because of beautiful eyes, it’s not because of a handsome guy. They love it, or they don’t love it, for some reason.

In my case, independent of results – of course, I had the luck always to have something to celebrate, something for the fans to have a good memory of me – but I think something that they see is when you are committed to them.”

While Chelsea’s recent lack of success under Pochettino has left fans frustrated, it’s improbable that the club will part ways with the Argentine coach anytime soon.

Despite slipping into the bottom half of the Premier League table, Chelsea still has an opportunity to secure European football by winning the FA Cup, with a significant semi-final clash against Manchester City on the horizon.

Following the international break, Pochettino’s team will return to action against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Mourinho will continue his search for a new coaching position, with rumoured links to clubs in Saudi Arabia and the Portugal national team.

Jude Bellingham’s X-rated reply to James Maddison’s post after late Belgium equaliser

Jude Bellingham sent an enthusiastic message to his England teammate James Maddison after their collaboration led to a late equaliser against Belgium.

Maddison had limited playing time under England manager Gareth Southgate during the international break.

He did not feature against Brazil and only played the final 15 minutes against Belgium.

Despite his brief appearance, Maddison played a crucial role in the game by setting up Bellingham for the 95th-minute equalizer at Wembley Stadium. After the match, Maddison shared a photo of their celebration on Instagram with the caption: “Sheriff [A] Jude Bellingham.”

Great character at the death to salvage something at Wembley! Need to take that attitude into the summer.”
Bellingham was quick to reply with the message: “What a f***ing player.”

Maddison looks set to be part of England’s squad for Euro 2024 and he will be hoping his latest cameo can help convince Gareth Southgate he deserves a place in his starting XI at the tournament in Germany.

Yet the Tottenham star faces serious competition for a place in the team, with Bellingham and Declan Rice having already nailed down spots in midfield.

England are reportedly due to play friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland in June before kicking off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia.

  • Southgate resolute on Stones’ starting role despite injury outcome

Southgate resolute on Stones’ starting role despite injury outcome

England manager Gareth Southgate defended his decision to include John Stones in the lineup for two matches within a short span, despite the Manchester City defender being forced off the field due to injury just 10 minutes into Tuesday’s 2-2 draw against Belgium.

Stones, who had played the entire 90 minutes in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Brazil at Wembley, started the match against Belgium but suffered an injury to his adductor muscle early on.

This injury raises doubts about Stones’ availability for City’s upcoming crucial Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday, especially with Kyle Walker also returning to the Etihad after sustaining a hamstring injury against Brazil.

Nonetheless, Southgate defended his decision, asserting that other top nations also fielded senior players in multiple matches during this international break.

“We did [with Stones] what Holland did with Virgil van Dijk tonight, what Norway did with [Martin] Odegaard and also what the Dutch did did with Nathan Aké, but it [criticism] only seems to fall on us.

“Of course I am disappointed if he [Stones] has a problem. It seems to be in the adjunct area, so we will have to wait and see.

“But John hadn’t played for two weeks before joining up with the squad, so it is not an overload problem. But I hate sending players back to their clubs not fully fit.”

England managed to secure a draw against Belgium, another Euro 2024 qualifier, with Jude Bellingham, the Real Madrid midfielder, scoring an equalizer four minutes into stoppage time at the end of the match.

Belgium had taken the lead twice, courtesy of Youri Tielemans, while England’s first equalizer came from an Ivan Toney penalty.

Bellingham’s goal saved England from suffering two consecutive defeats. Despite introducing first starts for Toney and Kobbie Mainoo, Southgate viewed the final outcome positively due to the changes made to his team.

“Jude of course is the headline and that competitive desire not to lose, to win, got us through,” Southgate said. “We recovered from setbacks with a pretty inexperienced team against a side with some very good players.

“Some players have definitely emerged positively from the opportunities they have had so we have great depth, but injuries are a concern and we still have the real heat of the season to come. We know what we have until the end.”
Belgium coach Dominic Tedesco said England deserved to salvage a draw from the game, despite his team leading for much of the encounter.

“Five seconds to go, you can win a game at Wembley,” he said. “That would be something very special and fantastic, but over the game, England was really strong and created many chances, so I think it is a fair result.
“It’s not easy to control this kind of team for 90 minutes, especially here at Wembley.”

  • Messi tells when he plans to retire from football

Messi tells when he plans to retire from football

Lionel Messi has said age will not play a factor in his decision to retire and that he will know when it is right to call time on his playing career as he will not be contributing as necessary to his team’s success.

The Argentina captain, 36, has not given an indication as to when he will retire, with his deal at Inter Miami ending in December 2025.

“I know that the moment that I know that I’m not performing, that I’m not enjoying myself, that I’m not helping my teammates,” Messi told MBC’s Big Time Podcast.

“I am very self-critical. I know when I am good, when I am bad, when I play well, when I play badly… And when I feel it is time to take that step, I will take it without thinking about age. If I feel good, I will always try to continue competing, because it is what I like and what I know how to do.”

An eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, Messi, who captained Argentina to World Cup glory in 2022, is expected to lead his national team at this summer’s Copa América.

“Had things not gone the way they did [in the tournament in Qatar], I would have left the national team,” Messi said

Due to a hamstring injury, Lionel Messi was unable to participate in Argentina’s recent victories over El Salvador and Costa Rica in international friendlies. Coach Lionel Scaloni emphasized that Messi is the only player whose spot in the squad is assured.

“I keep analysing everyone, but no one has a guaranteed place, except for the one who couldn’t be here,” Scaloni said in reference to Messi after Tuesday’s 3-1 win against Costa Rica in Los Angeles.

Inter Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino commented that Lionel Messi’s desire to win remains as strong as it was during their time together at Barcelona. Messi achieved a significant milestone by becoming the most decorated football player in history when he secured his 44th trophy with Inter Miami’s victory in the 2023 Leagues Cup last August.

“On a sporting level, I was lucky to be able to achieve everything in my career, to have achieved my dreams and the truth is that I couldn’t ask for more, both from a professional and human level, as well as with my family, my friends. I try to enjoy everything that God has given me so far, which is a lot.”

Messi said he has not decided what he will do once he stops playing football.

“The truth is I haven’t thought about it yet,” he said. “Today I try to enjoy the day-to-day, the moments, without thinking about what comes after.

“I don’t have anything clear yet; I hope to continue playing for a while longer, which is what I like. When the time comes, I will surely find the way to what fulfils me, what I like and a new role.”

Man Utd keen on initiating talks with Gary O’Neil over potential coaching role

Man Utd is reportedly interested in engaging Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Gary O’Neil for a potential role in a revamped coaching setup at Old Trafford, sources disclosed to ESPN’s Mark Ogden.

Following the acquisition of a 27% stake in the club by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos group in February, which put Ineos director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford at the helm of football operations, the new leadership is said to be working on restructuring the coaching framework under a head coach.

While there’s no conclusive decision yet on Erik ten Hag’s position as manager, ESPN sources reveal that Manchester United has already evaluated Gareth Southgate, Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton, and Thomas Frank from Brentford as potential successors.

O’Neil, who assumed the managerial role at Molineux last August after Julen Lopetegui’s departure, has propelled Wolves into contention for European qualification this season, having previously ensured Bournemouth’s Premier League survival during his debut top-flight managerial stint last season.

Sources indicate that the 40-year-old has been notified of Manchester United’s interest, with senior club figures expressing a desire to hold discussions regarding his intentions.

While United’s interest in O’Neil has been confirmed by sources to ESPN, the specific role they may be considering offering remains undisclosed.

In addition to evaluating managerial candidates, sources suggest that Manchester United is also exploring options to strengthen its entire coaching staff.

Bayern Munich eyeing €100 million transfer for Barcelona’s Araújo

Bayern Munich is reportedly considering a €100 million offer for Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo, as per Marca.

While several clubs are interested in acquiring the centre-back, Barcelona is keen on retaining the Uruguay international.

They have even presented him with a contract extension until 2029, given that his current deal expires in 2026.

However, Araújo has yet to respond to their proposal, surprising the club. Despite Barcelona’s optimism about reaching an agreement, they cannot be certain, especially with Bayern’s potential bid looming.

Barcelona’s immediate focus is on two crucial upcoming matches: the Champions League quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain and a decisive Clasico against Madrid.

Negotiations with Araújo will not occur during this period, but there are concerns about whether Bayern’s interest will influence the defender’s decision.

  • Can’t name Wollacott as number one now – Otto Addo

Ghana coach Otto Addo addressed the goalkeeper situation within the Black Stars, particularly focusing on Jojo Wollacott’s endeavor to reclaim the starting position.

Addo acknowledged the obstacles facing Wollacott, citing his lack of regular playing time at club level as a significant factor.

Despite Wollacott’s prior status as the first-choice goalkeeper before a finger injury sidelined him for the 2022 World Cup, his path to reclaiming the position has been hindered by challenges, including injuries and limited game time at Scottish club Hibernian.

Addo also praised the performances of Lawrence Ati-Zigi and newcomer Frederick Asare, highlighting their contributions amid the ongoing competition for the goalkeeper spot in the team.

“I left it open,” Addo remarked regarding the selection of the starting goalkeeper for the Uganda match.

“I have to say that Ati-Zigi had a good match. I gave him the start because he is a regular player at his club. Frederick is new and young. I think he made a good first impression.”

Regarding Wollacott’s situation, Addo explained, “Joseph Wollacott at the moment is not playing in his club so it’s difficult to say that he will be the number one at the moment.”

However, Addo indicated that Wollacott would be allowed to showcase his abilities in the upcoming match against Uganda.

“We will decide in June who will be the goalkeeper who will stand in the goal,” Addo concluded.

Video: Memphis Depay sets Dani Alves ‘free’ after allegedly paying €1m bail

Former Brazilian footballer Dani Alves was released from prison on Monday, March 25, 2024, after his bail was paid by Atletico Madrid and Netherlands player Memphis Depay.

Alves had been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for the rape of a 23-year-old woman in Barcelona in December 2023.

Due to frozen bank accounts, Alves faced difficulty paying the €1 million bail condition, but Depay reportedly stepped in to assist his former teammate.

Additionally, Neymar’s father allegedly paid €150,000 to Alves and hired a lawyer for him.

Although released, Alves had restrictions, including the confiscation of his passport, the obligation to report to local authorities, and house arrest until the sentence took effect.

Alves had spent 14 months in detention prior to his release.

African Games volunteers gets confrontational with police over unpaid allowances

An incident occurred at the University of Ghana involving some volunteers who participated in the recently concluded 2023 African Games and personnel from the Ghana Police Service.

Tensions arose when the police officers attempted to evacuate the volunteers from the Pentagon hostel after the conclusion of the games.

The volunteers, who had provided their services to ensure the smooth running of the event, insisted on receiving their allowances before leaving the hostel to return home.

However, their demands were met with resistance as police officers were deployed to remove them from the premises. What started as an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully quickly turned into a confrontation as the volunteers adamantly refused to vacate the hostel.

According to witnesses, amidst the commotion, a police officer fired a shot in an effort to disperse the crowd. Instead of dispersing, the volunteers reacted by advancing towards the officer.

The incident involved over one thousand volunteers who had been hired by the government to assist with the organization of the 2023 African Games, which took place in Accra from March 3 to March 23, 2024.

Can I use your phone for a call? My battery is dead – The robbers who drive Benz, Honda at East Legon

Ghanaians have been warned about a concerning new tactic employed by thieves and robbers to steal mobile phones from unsuspecting individuals.

According to reports from social media users who have been targeted, the modus operandi involves robbers approaching people under false pretenses, requesting to use their phones for a call, and then fleeing with the stolen devices.

Among those affected is well-known Ghanaian media personality, Gifty Bingley, who shared her encounter in a Facebook post dated December 30, 2023.

“Please exercise caution. This morning, as I jogged, a man in a Mercedes persistently honked and drove dangerously close. He stopped, pleading that his phone battery was dead and he urgently needed to make a call to inform someone that he was on his way.

“I hesitated for a second, then empathised, thinking I could be in a similar situation if I were driving without my car charger. I offered him my iPhone. Regrettably, I overlooked a critical warning sign: his car’s running engine. After unlocking my phone and handing it to him, the first thing he did was switch off my location service and speed off. Everything happened so fast, I couldn’t shout. Please be careful out there and exercise caution in your empathy and kindness. A Mercedes… like, how?”

Another individual, Omy Bae, recounted in a post dated January 11, 2024, how her phone was stolen using a similar method.

“Last night my phone( 14pro max) was snatched from me and they drove the car over me at the ARS to American house stretch around 6 to 7 p.m.

“He is dark skin, chubby, and has a beard, mine looked like a Hyundai 4*4 / a Honda CRV, light blue/ashy, but listening to people, he uses Civic as well, he’s with his friends, the cars are not registered and with no DV plate.

“He will either ask you for direction like he did to me or start a Snapchat conversation. Y’all be careful out there, Ghana is not safe anymore. They are doing it to both men and women. Don’t be too nice or smile to anybody,” she posted on Facebook.

Blogger, SikaOfficial has also shared a video on the X app depicting how a woman’s phone was stolen from her through a similar approach.

A pre-burial mass in his honor will take place on April 11, 2024, at the Christ the King Church in Accra at 9 am. This will be followed by a wake-keeping and vigil on Friday, April 12th, at the Woyongo Family House in Navrongo.

The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 13th, at Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Minor Basilica, Navrongo, with a Thanksgiving mass scheduled for Sunday, April 14th, at the Catholic Church in Navrongo.

The family announced these arrangements during a courtesy call on Interior Minister Henry Quartey to officially inform him of Mr. Woyongo’s passing on Monday.

  • Chocolate prices set to rise as cocoa surpasses the $10,000 milestone

Chocolate prices set to rise as cocoa surpasses the $10,000 milestone

Cocoa futures have surged beyond an unprecedented threshold of US$10,000 per ton, marking an extension of a historic rally that has already seen prices double this year.

This surge is significantly impacting the cost of chocolate production.

The market turbulence is primarily driven by poor crop yields in key West African cocoa-producing regions, setting the stage for a third consecutive year of supply deficits worldwide.

The cocoa industry is contending with the enduring repercussions of low returns paid to cocoa farmers, while concerns mount regarding the ability to procure sufficient cocoa beans.

In addition to worries surrounding limited physical supplies, financial markets are experiencing mounting pressures. Some traders have resorted to selling futures contracts to hedge against physical holdings.

However, as these contracts approach maturity, traders find themselves in need of cash to meet margin calls stemming from losses on derivatives. In a market that continues to ascend, traders may be compelled to close out short positions, further fueling the ongoing rally.

On Tuesday, futures spiked by as much as 4.5 percent to reach $10,080 in New York—a level that was scarcely conceivable just a few months ago. Despite a technical gauge of prices indicating overbought conditions for a significant portion of the past several months, cocoa prices have persisted in their upward trajectory.

“When we’re at this price, it’s hard to tell whether these prices are justified,” said Paul Joules, an analyst at Rabobank in London. “Whenever we have a dip in the market, it seems to shoot straight back up, which is more to do with the commercials, they’ve been net buyers.”

Cocoa’s advance is bad news for consumers if chocolatiers keep passing on costs or sell bars that are smaller or have less chocolate in them. The looming Easter holiday is a peak period for chocolate consumption, and the lag between commodity and retail markets mean the brunt of the impact for shoppers still lies ahead.

There’s a risk the supply situation may worsen. Incoming European Union rules — aimed at stopping products that destroy forests from being sold in shops — may make it even harder for the bloc’s chocolate makers to secure supplies.

    New harvest

Focus is now turning to West Africa’s upcoming mid-crop, the smaller of two annual harvests. Top grower Ivory Coast’s regulator expects that to shrink this season, Bloomberg has reported.

“The West African supply situation remains extremely tight going into the start of the mid-crop harvest next week, and that continues to underpin cocoa prices,” The Hightower Report said in a note.

While other cocoa growers, such as Brazil and Ecuador, are endeavoring to increase production, the process of planting new cocoa trees and waiting for them to yield beans typically spans a few years. Consequently, any relief to the strained global cocoa supplies is expected to be delayed.

The International Cocoa Organization has forecasted that the ratio of stockpiles to grindings will decline to its lowest level in over four decades this season, underscoring the market’s precarious situation.

On Tuesday, cocoa prices in New York surged by 3.5 percent to reach $9,991. In other softs markets, raw sugar saw a one percent increase, while arabica coffee experienced a slight uptick.

Similarly, in London, cocoa futures for the most active contracts have also more than doubled in value this year.

I was a nobody when I met Chioma – Davido

Nigerian artist Davido has shared insights into his relationship with his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, revealing that they met when he was facing financial challenges.

Contrary to the common narrative of struggling to find genuine love amidst fame and wealth, Davido considers himself fortunate to have encountered Chioma before achieving celebrity status.

He believes that meeting her during that period was crucial, as it allowed him to establish a genuine connection without the pressure of wealth influencing their relationship.

Davido also expressed gratitude for having a close-knit circle of friends who knew him before he became famous, highlighting the importance of authenticity in his relationships.

In his words; “I have a friend, anytime I am on the phone with my wife, he would say he has everything in the world, but a wife is what he is missing. I met my wife before I had money, but I was telling myself if I didn’t meet her before then and now I am single and I meet a girl, it wouldn’t be the same. I would feel the lady is talking to me because I am Davido and I have money.

“My success is when I see people around who were there when I had nothing and they see me now, that’s the feeling, not like when you blow up and start hanging out with a new set of people. You need to keep the people that were there with you since grinding.”

Expanding on the story, Chioma revealed that her initial encounter with Davido took place during their time in school. She recalled being introduced to him by a mutual friend who happened to be dating one of Davido’s acquaintances.

  • Campaign billboards of Ama Dokua vandalized

Campaign billboards of Ama Dokua vandalized

Unknown individuals vandalised at least six giant billboards belonging to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei North, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, on March 1, 2024.

The billboards, strategically placed at locations like Kata Hostel, Nii Boye Town, and Achimota, suffered significant damage amounting to thousands of Ghana cedis.

Reports suggest that the destruction was deliberate and targeted, with no clear motive behind the vandalism.

Some NPP members suspect foul play orchestrated by members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly implicating the incumbent NDC MP Theresa Awuni.

Kwabena Amoako, speaking on behalf of the NPP constituency in Okaikwei North, condemned the incident and reported it to the police for investigation.

He expressed suspicion that NDC members were responsible for the destruction, alleging an attempt to tarnish the image of the NPP parliamentary candidate by portraying her as violent.

“Instead of them focusing on how to do their campaign, they try to attack her during her events. They always want to provoke her to create the impression that she is violent. We hope the security agencies will take this issue up to prevent it from escalating,” Amoako stated in an interview with GhanaWeb.

Confirming the incident, the police have assured that investigations are underway. However, the NDC office in the constituency has yet to respond to queries regarding the matter.

The Okaikwei North constituency has become a focal point of political attention ahead of the upcoming December general elections.

Despite being traditionally considered a stronghold for the ruling NPP, the constituency witnessed a surprising victory for the opposition NDC in the December 2020 elections, reflecting growing discontent among party supporters against the former MP, Fuseini Issah.

As tensions escalate in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, the destruction of the NPP billboards highlights the heightened political competition in Ghana’s electoral landscape, raising concerns about potential acts of sabotage and violence.

  • UEFA: Man Utd assured of Europa League participation while Ratcliffe-owned Nice is also set to qualify

UEFA: Man Utd assured of Europa League participation while Ratcliffe-owned Nice is also set to qualify

UEFA is reportedly willing to grant Manchester United entry into the Europa League should they qualify, despite the fact that Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains the owner of Nice.

According to UEFA’s latest regulations, clubs owned by the same individuals are not permitted to compete in the same UEFA competitions.

This would normally mean that United could not participate in the Europa League next season, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe, their new co-owner, holds a majority stake in Ligue 1 outfit Nice.

Currently, both United and Nice are in contention for Europa League qualification, with Nice holding a higher league position than United.

However, the Daily Mail suggests that UEFA’s general secretary, Theodore Theodoridis, attended United’s league match against West Ham at Old Trafford on February 4.

Following the game, Theodoridis reportedly engaged in discussions with the English club, offering assurances that the matter would be addressed.

The report further indicates that in the event of such a scenario, United and Nice would need to provide evidence to UEFA that they do not share any common management structures.

Given Ratcliffe’s recent minority takeover at Old Trafford, it appears unlikely that the two clubs would share technical personnel.

  • CONCACAF condemns homophobic chanting towards Matt Turner in statement

CONCACAF condemns homophobic chanting towards Matt Turner in statement

CONCACAF has issued a statement following the Nations League final between the USMNT and Mexico, which was disrupted due to homophobic chanting.

Despite the United States men’s national team securing a 2-0 victory over Mexico in the final of the Nations League, the match was overshadowed by instances of homophobic slurs directed at goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Throughout the game, Mexico fans were heard chanting expletives, particularly during goal kicks.

Despite warnings being issued over the PA system, the referee was forced to pause the game twice-once for five minutes and again before full-time.

While goals from Tyler Adams and Giovanni Reyna secured the win for the USMNT, the homophobic chanting cast a shadow over what should have been a celebratory occasion.

This behaviour has unfortunately become increasingly common in recent years, with similar incidents occurring during last year’s Nations League semifinals between the two sides.

CONCACAF’s statement read: “Concacaf condemns the discriminatory chanting in the final minutes of the Nations League Final between Mexico and the United States men’s national teams. Security staff in the stadium identified and ejected a significant number of fans, and the referee and match officials activated the FIFA protocol.

In 2021 Concacaf launched its What’s Wrong Is Wrong campaign, through which it has consistently urged fans to cease the chant with regular digital communications and significant in-stadium messaging before and during all Concacaf events.

It is extremely disappointing that this matter continues to be an issue at some matches, particularly in the context of the next two years presenting such a tremendous opportunity to grow the sport in our region. We will continue to urge fans to support their teams positively and with respect for the opposition and all participants in the game.”

It remains to be seen if fines or further punishment will be meted out to the Mexican FA. In the meantime, the USMNT are next in action in June, against Colombia, while Mexico plays Bolivia in the same month.

Geremi calls out wife in divorce application says, “she did not stop lying”

Geremi, a former Chelsea player, has accused his wife of dishonesty in her divorce petition, following revelations that he is not the biological father of their twins, born in 2008.

The 45-year-old former Cameroon star has initiated divorce proceedings after DNA tests confirmed that the twins were fathered by his wife’s previous husband.

According to court documents reported by Mundo Deportivo, Geremi alleges deceit on his wife’s part and claims they slept in separate rooms.

Despite being a two-time Premier League winner, Geremi asserts that no children were born during their marriage after discovering the true paternity of the twins.

The papers read: “If at the beginning of this union the wife was kind, she did not stop lying, presenting as hers the twin children born on June 5, 2008 (4 years before the marriage), everything that motivated their union.

“That the discovery by the husband that said children were those of her previous husband because they were born during this marriage will alter the harmony of the couple. More seriously, the paternity test carried out will confirm it, forcing his wife to confess, also convincing him to let the children go regularly to their legitimate and biological father.”

The documents further state that Laure, while compliant as a wife, insisted on Geremi sleeping in separate rooms within their marital home.

Geremi felt compelled to distance himself from their residence after facing threats from Laure’s daughter from her previous marriage, who threatened to involve the police.

Geremi, known for his stints at Chelsea, Newcastle, and Real Madrid, seeks a prompt resolution to his divorce proceedings following this unexpected revelation.

Argentina without Messi, what is it like? Mac Allister tells squad and opponent attitude

Alexis Mac Allister provided insight into how Argentina operates in the absence of Lionel Messi, acknowledging that opponents tend to be more apprehensive when the captain is present.

The Liverpool midfielder suggested that La Albiceleste strives to showcase greater strength when Messi is not on the field, indicating that rivals perceive them as a more formidable force with the 37-year-old involved.

Messi recently withdrew from international friendlies due to an injury sustained in a CONCACAF Champions Cup game for Inter Miami against Nashville.

Consequently, he missed subsequent matches for his club and opted not to join Lionel Scaloni’s squad for friendly fixtures.

Speaking to ESPN, Mac Allister said, “We always focus a lot on the group and the team. We know that when Leo is not there, we have to become even stronger because we don’t have that player who, when things go wrong, can save us.

“We know that when Leo is there, they (rivals) are a little more afraid; it is normal. We also have players who play for big clubs in Europe and when they see the Argentine National Team, they know that it is not going to be an easy match and that’s what we want. We want to do our best so that the rival has a difficult day.”

Following their 3-0 win over El Salvador, the reigning world champions are preparing to play against Costa Rica in their next friendly match, set for Wednesday.

‘Hurt’ Cancelo blasts Guardiola over lies concerning his City departure

João Cancelo has criticised Manchester City, alleging that false information was spread about him after he left for Bayern Munich in January 2023.

Despite being a significant player under manager Pep Guardiola, the Portugal international experienced a decline in his role during the first half of the 2022-23 season.

Media reports suggested that Cancelo was discontented with teammates Rico Lewis and Nathan Aké receiving more playing time, implying that it had a negative impact on the team.

Cancelo, who is on a season-long-loan at Barcelona from City told the ABola newspaper : “Lies were told! I’ve never been a bad teammate for them and you can ask either Aké or Rico. I don’t have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them, but that’s the manager’s opinion…”

Asked if he was saddened by those reports, Cancelo said, “I was because it wasn’t true. I think Manchester City were a bit ungrateful to me when they said that, because I was a very important player in the years I was there. I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans and I always gave everything.

“I remember a time when I was robbed and attacked and the next day I was playing at the Emirates against Arsenal. These are things you don’t forget,I left my wife and my daughter alone at home, terrified.

“People will only remember this because Mister Guardiola has much more strength than me when he says something, and I prefer to keep to myself. I prefer to know that I am telling the truth.I feel fulfilled with what I did. I am a transparent person, I never lie.”

  • Haaland still dreams of playing for Real Madrid – Sources

Haaland still dreams of playing for Real Madrid – Sources

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland still envisions himself playing for Real Madrid in the future, despite a potential delay caused by Kylian Mbappe’s expected transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Los Blancos this summer, according to AS.

Initially planning to join the Spanish giants in 2025, Haaland’s timeline may have shifted, but the 23-year-old remains keen on a move to Real Madrid.

He sees City’s upcoming Champions League quarterfinal clash with Carlo Ancelotti’s side as an ideal opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities for a potential future transfer.

Although he played the full 90 minutes in both legs of last season’s semifinal against Madrid, he failed to score in either match.

While Haaland’s current contract with Manchester City extends until 2027, the club is reportedly expediting the process of renewing his deal.

His contract includes a €200 million release clause, enabling him to leave this summer if triggered.

His agent, Rafaela Pimenta, aims to include a similar clause in any future agreement to facilitate a potential move to Real Madrid. Although there is no specific clause regarding Pep Guardiola in Haaland’s contract, the manager’s future could also influence the striker’s decision.

Financial constraints may pose a challenge for Real Madrid in acquiring both Mbappe and Haaland, raising questions about how the club would manage such high-profile signings.

  • China jails their FA president for life over $10m bribes

China jails their FA president for life over $10m bribes

Former president of China’s football association, Chen Xuyuan, has been sentenced to life in prison for accepting bribes totaling more than $10 million, according to state media reports on Tuesday.

This verdict follows a significant anti-corruption investigation within the sport, targeting numerous high-ranking officials since late 2022.

Chen’s actions were deemed to have inflicted “tremendous damage” on Chinese football, as stated in a court ruling reported by the official Xinhua news agency. Corruption has long plagued the sport in China, with fans attributing it to the national team’s consistent underperformance.

Chen, 67, rose from working on the docks in Shanghai during his youth to leading Shanghai International Port Co in the 2010s, eventually assuming the chairmanship of the Chinese Football Association (CFA) in 2019.

The court in central Hubei province found that Chen exploited his various positions, including those associated with the CFA, to facilitate illicit activities related to project contracting, investment operations, and sports event arrangements.

In exchange, he accepted bribes and valuable gifts amounting to over 81 million yuan ($11.22 million).

Chen’s involvement in corruption was highlighted in a state TV documentary series aired in January, where he admitted to accepting bribes.

He recounted receiving backpacks filled with cash from local football officials on the eve of his appointment as CFA chairman. Confessions of corruption have become commonplace on national television since President Xi Jinping initiated an extensive anti-corruption campaign.

“They came into my room, casually placed their backpacks on my sofa, and said, ‘congratulations, resident Chen, we hope you can take care of us more,’” he said.

“When I asked what they were offering, they responded it is just a tradition and they all do it this way.”

On Chen’s sentencing, the People’s Daily, the official paper of the ruling Communist Party, said there was no end point to the fight against corruption.

“The systemic corruption in football is by no means accidental,” the newspaper wrote. “It is imperative to trace back to the source and address the symptoms and root causes.”

State media reported on Tuesday that several other football officials were also investigated for corruption, including Chen Yongliang, former executive deputy secretary-general of the CFA, Liu Lei, a former director at the Wuhan Football Management Centre, Yu Hongchen, a former vice head of the CFA, and Dong Zheng, a former general manager of the Chinese Super League.

Chen received a 14-year prison sentence, Yu received 13 years, Dong received eight years, and Liu received 2 1/2 years.

Li Tie, former head coach of the men’s national team, and Du Zhaocai, former vice chairman of the CFA, who were similarly accused of corruption, are still awaiting their verdicts.

Kotoko fans want Prosper Ogum out after four back-to-back defeat

Asante Kotoko’s recent series of losses has ignited anger among the club’s fans, with many demanding the removal of head coach Prosper Ogum.

The most recent defeat occurred during match week 23 on Sunday, as the Porcupine Warriors suffered a 1-0 loss to Nations FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Asamoah Boateng Afriyie scored the only goal in the 45+3rd minute, sealing Asante Kotoko’s fate.

This loss marked the team’s fourth consecutive defeat, placing them in ninth position on the league table with just 32 points.

After the match, disgruntled fans aired their frustrations with Ogum’s leadership in front of media cameras.

Some called for the coach to step down if he felt overwhelmed, while others compared his performance in his first title-winning season to his current one.

One fan suggested that Ogum may have been dissatisfied under the management of former CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah because he was unable to bring in his preferred players.

However, now that he has the opportunity to do so, the fan has questioned the quality of the players he has recruited.

Pressure is mounting on Ogum to reverse Asante Kotoko’s fortunes, and it remains to be seen if he can do so.

For now, the fans are adamant that they are dissatisfied with the team’s current form.

You want to break the 8 with this arrogant and phony attitude – Coach Opeele on NAPO’s dumsor comments

Former coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Isaac Adade Opeele Boateng, also known as Coach Opeele, expressed bewilderment at the comments made by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, regarding the current power situation in the country.

The former assistant coach of the national U-17 team was surprised by the remarks made by the minister, commonly referred to as NAPO, on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account to react, Coach Opeele posted, “I am speechless! SMH.”

In a subsequent tweet, Coach Opeele cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) about the potential consequences if their members are not disciplined.

Known for his vocal support of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, Coach Opeele emphasized that “arrogance and self-aggrandizement” could hinder the NPP’s chances of success in the upcoming elections.

“Phony, unaccountable, untrustworthy and arrogant attitudes would not break the 8. NPP UNEXPECTEDLY won power from the NDC in 2016 and proclaimed, ‘Ghanaians are not fools. In 2024, Ghanaians won’t be fools to vote for a display of arrogance and self-aggrandisement! Be humble,” he stated.

Coach Opeele’s remarks come in response to statements made by the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, suggesting that Ghanaians requesting a load-shedding timetable should devise one themselves.

In a seemingly lighthearted response to a journalist’s question, captured in a video shared by JoyNews on X, the minister expressed his belief that there is no necessity for a timetable when the power distributor claims that the current situation in the country does not warrant one.

“Ask those who want it to bring it, if there is one. I haven’t seen any timetable,” he stated.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh had earlier denied that the country has returned to the days of dumsor, as the erratic power supply in the country under John Dramani Mahama was referred to.

“If we are comparing four years, four years, NPP administration’s energy sector is 300 times better than John Mahama… it’s far much better than John Mahama ever did…

“I’ve promised you that we are going to work on it and it’s not a work that is a single event; it’s a process, and we’ll continue to work on it for the energy sector to become better,” he stated.

Inaki and Nico Williams, known for their on-field chemistry at Athletic Bilbao, share a unique bond as brothers.

However, their connection is not limited to just club football; they often celebrate each other’s successes and contribute significantly to their team’s performance.

Despite their camaraderie, there are moments of tension, as witnessed after a recent match against Deportivo Alavés. Following the game, they engaged in a heated argument, exchanging words and gestures even amidst the post-match celebrations with their teammates and fans.

This incident highlights the complexities of their relationship, where their shared passion for football sometimes gives way to disagreements, despite their shared experiences on the pitch.

    Mother intervenes off-pitch

Nico Williams in a later interview shared how their mother, after seeing the images from Ghana, took it upon herself to mediate between her children.

“She is in Ghana, but she found out and called us. She told us not to argue, and even less on the field. But hey, these are football things,” Nico said.

“Then we continued in the locker room, but when we went home it had already passed us by,” he added.

The Williams brothers, key players in Athletic Bilbao’s recent win, received accolades for their mature handling of the incident. Despite their disagreement during the match, they have maintained a solid bond, demonstrating professionalism both on and off the field, according to a report from footballghana.com.

Starting on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, the protests will occur every two weeks until the end of November 2024, unless progress is made beforehand.

The Locked-up Investment Holders Forum (LIHF) plans to launch a series of public protest aimed at urging the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to address their concerns regarding locked-up investments.

Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, the Convener of the Forum, announced this decision at a press conference in Accra on Monday. He highlighted that previous petitions to the BoG have failed to yield results, necessitating sustained demonstrations.

Since BoG has refused to act to get us our locked-up investments, we are going to embark on a public protest to further press home our demand. The public protest will begin on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024 and will be done every two weeks up to the end of November 2024 unless something positive comes from the engagements then we will stop. Otherwise, we will continue up to the end of November 2024.”

“We will always march to BoG to meet the governor and demand that he take immediate steps to work on the proposals to enable us to get our money.

‘Moment of silence’ as Ashanti Minister struggles to list 5 NPP legacy projects

Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, was speechless during a live TV interview when he was asked a question about the projects that his party, the NPP, has been able to do for the people of his region.

In the interview on Oyerepa TV on Monday, March 25, 2024, Simon Osei-Mensah could be seen struggling to give answers to the question of what he and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had been able to do.

After speaking about four such projects from his party, for the region, the minister went blank and quiet, unable to say any more words.

“We have completed the Zipline project, which is at Mampong… go and look at Bosomtwe Girls… By the end of April, you will see that planes can land at the airport… baby and mother unit that Auntie Rebecca came to commission is also our project,” and then the minister went blank on live TV.

After a brief pause, the minister assured the host, Kwesi Parker-Wilson, that he would gather additional information and provide it later.

Interestingly, prior to being questioned, he had challenged the National Democratic Congress to present ten legacy projects they had initiated in the Ashanti Region.

However, when faced with a similar inquiry himself, he found himself unable to provide a satisfactory response, highlighting the irony of his earlier demand.

“They should give me 10 signature projects or legacy projects that they commissioned in the 8-year period they were in power, in the Ashanti Region,” he dared.

Dani Alves ‘set free’ after paying a million Euro after rape conviction

Former Barcelona player Dani Alves has been freed from incarceration after posting a €1 million (£850,000) bail bond. He was convicted of rape last month and received a sentence of four years and six months.

However, pending his appeal, he has been released from jail after meeting the bail requirement.

Alves surrendered his Spanish and Brazilian passports to assure authorities that he will not flee the country.

He spent a total of 14 months behind bars, having been first incarcerated in January 2023.

Last week, Alves was informed that he could be released from prison, but he couldn’t afford the bail bond at the time. However, he has now managed to pay it, despite his lawyer previously stating that he was financially strapped.

Interestingly, Alves is expecting a substantial payout of €9.2 million from Spain’s tax agency, which could explain how he managed to pay the bail.

Initially, there were rumors that Neymar’s family would assist Alves in paying the bail, but they have since denied these claims through a formal statement.

Alves’ ex-wife Dinorah Santana has distanced herself almost completely from the former Brazil star, telling Spanish television: “For me, he doesn’t exist. For me, he has died.”

Now released, Alves awaits the outcome of his appeal to determine his fate.

Video: That is the word you used, I have never used that word – See NAPO’s ‘attitude’ to questions on dumsor

Minister for Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO’s posture and attitude during a media engagement on Ghana’s recent power outages has sparked fierce debate on social media.

During an interview at a random event on March 25, 2024, the minister was questioned about the recent power outages and the measures his outfit was taking to resolve the problem.

In his response, he admitted that the country has for the past few weeks, been experiencing power outages but his ministry was working on it.

    After admitting to dumsor in his first response on the question;

Journalist said, “But we are still experiencing dumsor.”

NAPO: Nobody has said we haven’t. I’m just saying it’s much more better than what John Mahama did.”

However, he appeared to dissociate himself from using the word ‘dumsor’ in his earlier response.

NAPO: That is the word you used. I never used that. I promised you we were going to work on it. It is not a work that is a single event.

If you are comparing four years-four years NPP administration, the energy sector is three hundred times better than John Mahama. Nobody has said we haven’t but I’m just saying that its far better than what John Mahama ever did”.

  • Why not come up with your own since you are eager for one – NAPO to Ghanaians on dumsor timetable

Why not come up with your own since you are eager for one – NAPO to Ghanaians on dumsor timetable

Minister of Energy Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh says those calling for a load-shedding timetable should release one themselves.

He made these remarks during a media engagement on March 25, 2024, after questions about when a load-shedding timetable would be released following the recent power outages the country has been experiencing.

NAPO in response, said, “Ask those who want it to bring it, if there is , I haven’t seen any timetable. When you say bring a timetable, what do you mean.

The ECG says that there is no timetable so why are you asking for a timetable?” he fumed.

“Dumsor” is a Ghanaian term that describes the frustrating experience of frequent power outages or load shedding. It originates from the combination of two local languages: “dum,” meaning off, and “sɔ,” meaning on. Essentially, it signifies a situation where electricity is intermittently available, causing disruptions in daily life and economic activities.

The term gained widespread attention in Ghana as a result of significant challenges in the country’s energy sector. These challenges have led to inconsistent electricity supply, causing frequent and prolonged power outages.

In response to this issue, many Ghanaians, particularly businesses, have urged the power supply company ECG to provide a timetable for power cuts.

Having a schedule would enable them to better plan their daily activities amidst the uncertainties of power disruptions.

  • Dan Kwaku Yeboah commends Akufo-Addo for his role in hosting the 13th African Games

Dan Kwaku Yeboah commends Akufo-Addo for his role in hosting the 13th African Games

Dan Kwaku Yeboah, the spokesperson of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 13th African Games, highlighted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s crucial role in the tournament’s hosting during an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo program on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Yeboah recounted a challenging period when the LOC members considered giving up on hosting the event. In numerous meetings, they discussed the possibility of relinquishing their hosting duties and transferring them to another country.

The decision to contemplate stepping down stemmed from several factors, including disagreements between the African Union (AU), the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), and the Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC). Additionally, securing funds for constructing the necessary facilities posed a significant challenge.

However, Yeboah revealed that President Akufo-Addo intervened during one of their meetings, urging them not to give up. He assured the LOC members that he would ensure Ghana successfully hosted Africa’s largest sporting event.

“President Akufo-Addo deserves special commendations for his efforts at helping stage this tournament. Aside from the fact that it was held under his government, he was instrumental in hosting it.

“There came a time when we (LOC members) wanted to give up but he urged us to soldier on. At the time, it was difficult getting money and the AU-ANOCCA impasse was ongoing so we thought we should just stop the hosting but President Akufo-Addo maintained that Ghana was going to host and motivated us not to give up. He has shown that he’s a good leader,” he said.

From March 8 to March 23, 2024, Ghana hosted the 13th African Games, utilising new facilities such as the Borteyman Sports Complex and the University of Ghana Sports Stadium for various events.

Despite a rough start marked by controversies involving power outages, vehicle shortages, and equipment challenges, the tournament gained momentum in its later stages. The atmosphere was vibrant, culminating in a colourful closing ceremony that capped off what can be deemed a relatively successful event.

Ghana’s performance in the competition was commendable, securing a sixth-place finish with a record-breaking haul of 67 medals.

  • We won’t have this game easy – Otto Addo warns Black Stars ahead of Uganda friendlies

Black Stars coach Otto Addo has advised his players not to underestimate their next opponent, Uganda, following their recent loss to Nigeria.

Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat against Nigeria, prompting Addo to stress the importance of their upcoming match against Uganda.

Recognising Uganda as a strong adversary, Addo emphasised the need for thorough preparation and strategic planning.

In a post-match interview with Ghana Football Communications, Addo pointed out Uganda’s strengths, highlighting their talented players and effective gameplay.

“Yeah, we have Uganda on Tuesday and the boys. I think they played well but if they think it will be an easy game, then they are wrong. Uganda is very, very good. I watched them a little bit before now; I have to go deeper,” he said.

“They have good players, we have to have a good plan if we want to win this game. I don’t see us as favourites; it will be an even game. We have to rest now, I have to think about how we play, and maybe we need some fresh legs.

“For me, the most important thing is to get options and to get solutions for the upcoming games so these friendly matches are very, very important for us to know how they play and how they can adapt and take it to the World Cup qualifiers in June,” he added.

  • Don’t be too hard on John Paintsil – Samuel Inkoom tells Ghanaians

Don’t be too hard on John Paintsil – Samuel Inkoom tells Ghanaians

Former Black Stars defender, Samuel Inkoom, is urging Ghanaians to ease down on the criticism of John Paintsil and help him succeed in his new role as an assistant coach of the Black Stars.

Inkoom told JoyNews that he understands the criticism being directed at Paintsil but believes that Ghanaians must focus on what he has to offer rather than his conduct.

The former Asante Kotoko defender noted that the ultimate dream of every Ghanaian is to see the Black Stars succeed and that if John Paintsil can help the team excel, then, he should be given the needed support.

“My focus is on the national team and I wouldn’t say anything bad about John Paintsil. We all have to support him because, when they bring glory, we will all be happy.

There is a lot of bashing going on but I’m just begging Ghanaians to take it easy on him and give him the confidence he needs to excel. Everybody needs a platform, so let’s support him,” he said.

Samuel Inkoom also shared his thoughts on the duration of the contract awarded to Otto Addo and his new technical team by the Ghana Football Association.

The team, comprising Joseph Lauman as assistant one, John Paintsil as assistant two, and Fatawu Dauda as goalkeepers’ trainer, has been granted a 34-month contract to oversee the affairs of the Black Stars.

Inkoom highlighted in the interview that the length of the contract instills confidence that the FA is prioritising long-term success rather than immediate results.

He further emphasised that, with job security assured, the coaches can make decisions aimed at yielding long-term benefits for Ghana.

“The duration of the contract is great because the coach will now have the confidence to develop the players and do whatever he has to do to help us succeed. I believe that if you give a coach a long period of time, he will succeed. With this contract, he will have enough time to do the things that will help us succeed,” he said.

The new technical team faced a setback in their debut game, but they have an opportunity to bounce back with a positive outcome in their upcoming match against Uganda on March 26, 2024.

  • You will have to give us sometime -Kotoko coach after losing spree

You will have to give us sometime -Kotoko coach after losing spree

Assistant coach David Ocloo of Kotoko acknowledges that the team requires time to reverse their fortunes after a dismal performance in the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered their fourth consecutive league defeat on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium, with Nations FC clinching a narrow victory.

This loss not only caused Kotoko to drop to ninth place but also marked their worst run in the competition in 14 years.

Ocloo, who remains confident in bouncing back believes the situation is difficult and may need some time to get things working again.

“I think we need some time; it [the results] will come. They should forgive us for such a result and they should keep supporting us. We we will not disappoint them. It’s not over yet. This is the time we need them the most so they shouldn’t neglect us. They should be with us and we will turn things around.”

Ocloo was, however, satisfied with the performance of the team, indicating that the players heeded instructions but were unlucky to get a goal.

“It was a very difficult game. A very difficult situation. I think today our boys came to the party. We were well organised, disciplined and they played according to our system and structure. Within the system, it was nice but it’s unfortunate we didn’t get the needed goal.

“It’s true [that luck has deserted Kotoko] but I think with more hard work we will get that luck back,” he added.

Nations FC’s victory also intensified the pressure on league leaders FC Samarteex, who managed a crucial 2-1 win against Hearts of Oak, ending their unbeaten streak.

Given Kotoko’s dismal performance, there’s speculation that the club’s coaching staff has been granted a three-game ultimatum to salvage their positions amid the team’s poor form.

After 23 matches, the Porcupines have secured nine wins, five draws, and suffered nine defeats.
