Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey showcased his importance to Arsenal’s title aspirations with an impactful performance against Manchester City on March 31, 2024.
Despite being limited to twenty-four minutes of play in the goalless draw at Etihad Stadium, the 30-year-old demonstrated signs of returning to peak condition after facing injury setbacks throughout the 2023/2024 season.
Partey’s standout moment came when he orchestrated a brilliant play that bypassed four Manchester City players, setting up Arsenal’s best scoring opportunity of the match.
Receiving a pass from Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, Partey skillfully manoeuvered past City striker Erling Haaland and evaded the pressure from three opposing players before delivering a precise pass to Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.
Although Odegaard’s subsequent shot was unsuccessful, Partey’s overall performance showcased his sharpness and ability to dictate play with accurate passes and timely interceptions.
His calming influence in midfield provided Arsenal with much-needed control in a match where they faced significant defensive pressure.
Partey’s return to form is a positive development for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, especially with a hectic schedule of eight games awaiting the team in April.
Former member of theNew Patriotic Party (NPP), now an independent candidate for the presidency, Alan Kyeremanteng, has argued that Ghana, being predominantly Christian, should choose a Christian leader as president in the upcoming 2024 elections.
He voiced this sentiment during his address at the Easter Sunday Convention held at the Dr. Thomas Wyatt Assembly of the Church of Pentecost.
After commending the church for its role in societal progress, he emphasised: “As a predominantly Christian nation, as Christians, it is our responsibility that we elect a Christian leader who is also a Christlike leader,” he stated while touting himself as the man to transform the country.
“If you are moved by God to vote for Alan Kyerematen, the leader of transformation, then I can assure you, as our Lord Jesus did on the cross, that you shall be in paradise with him. You will also be in paradise when I assume power,” he declared, eliciting applause.
His remarks have sparked criticism from activists within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the former trade minister and NPP presidential hopeful of promoting division.
It’s worth noting that the NPP’s current flagbearer is Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who is Muslim. Alan is a Christian, as is the other prominent contender, former President John Dramani Mahama, who leads the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the race.

Ajax’s tumultuous season faced a new setback on Tuesday as their chief executive, Alex Kroes, was suspended by the club over suspected insider trading, just two weeks into his tenure.
Kroes has been immediately suspended, with Ajax indicating their intention to terminate his contract.
The Dutch club made this decision after discovering that Kroes purchased more than 17,000 shares in Ajax a week before his appointment was officially announced on August 2, 2023. Following legal counsel, Ajax concluded that Kroes likely engaged in insider trading.
Kroes assumed the role of CEO on March 15, after being proposed for the position and chairman of the board in August 2023.
His start at Ajax was delayed due to a one-year non-compete clause in his contract with AZ Alkmaar, where he served as the director of international football strategy. Kroes was selected to succeed Edwin van der Sar, who resigned as general director and CEO in May 2023.
“We are deeply dismayed that this has occurred at Ajax, as it is highly detrimental to the club and everyone who holds it dear to them,” Ajax chairman of the supervisory board Michael van Praag said in a statement. “Alex Kroes’ actions are not in line with what Ajax stands for. The timing of his share purchase indicates insider trading.
“Such a violation of the law cannot be tolerated by a publicly listed company, especially when it involves the CEO. After careful consideration, the supervisory board has therefore concluded that Alex’s position as a director of Ajax is untenable. I want to emphasise that the technical policy will continue with the individuals in place and on the path Ajax was already on with Alex.”
In a statement published to LinkedIn, Kroes said he will refer this case to the Netherlands’ Authority for Financial Markets (AFM) to “arrive at an independent judgement.” Kroes said he bought shares on July 26, 2023, as a sign of faith in the project at Ajax and before he signed his contract to become their new CEO.
“I have been an Ajax player since I was nine,” Kroes said. “I have always been involved in the club, as a player and as a member. In my heart and later also through these shares. Shares that I bought out of involvement in the club. Out of confidence in the club. Not to make quick money, but as a positive signal to all stakeholders.
“I have always said in recent times that I want all the attention to be on Ajax, not on Alex. But my moral compass says that I cannot simply accept this decision of the Supervisory Board. I will now independently go to the AFM to present my matter in order to arrive at an independent judgment.
“All this causes unrest for Ajax and I sincerely regret that. Hopefully this period will be over soon. From today onwards, with a heavy heart, I will watch from a distance what is happening at Ajax. Ajax must become Ajax again.”
The Dutch giants, Ajax, have faced a challenging season marked by significant upheaval. Their performance dipped dramatically, leading them to occupy the bottom spot in the Eredivisie by late October 2023.
The season saw the swift departures of their sporting director, Sven Mislintat, and manager, Maurice Steijn, both appointed during the preseason.
Mislintat’s tenure lasted a mere 129 days before he was dismissed in September 2023 amidst investigations into a potential conflict of interest related to a transfer.
Steijn met a similar fate, being sacked in October during the club’s worst run of results in 54 years. Ajax then turned to John van ‘t Schip as interim manager.
However, they currently find themselves in fifth place in the Eredivisie, trailing by eight points for European qualification.
Their prospects for a Champions League spot appear distant, with a 21-point gap behind Feyenoord in second place and a 28-point deficit behind league leaders PSV.
When Kroes took the job, there was optimism his appointment would trigger the start of Ajax’s resurgence. “There are people who claim it will take four or five years for Ajax to become contenders for the title again,” Kroes said soon after taking the job. “My contract is for three years and I want Ajax to be a title contender in that time.”
However, Ajax finds itself in a positionwhere a thorough reassessment of their strategies is imperative. For the time being, the board members will assume the tasks and obligations previously held by Kroes, with Van Praag acting as the designated representative.
The subsequent course of action involves the board convening an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Shareholders (EGM) to discuss the proposal for Kroes’ dismissal.

Davis gained attention in 2018 when, as a member of the Buffalo Bills, he unexpectedly retired during halftime of a September game against theLos Angeles Chargers.
In a statement issued following the game, he clarified that his decision was not meant to disrespect his teammates and coaches. However, he expressed feeling unsettled while on the field that Sunday and questioned his desire to continue playing.
“And truthfully, I do not because the season is long, and it’s more important for me and my family to walk away healthy than to willfully embrace the warrior mentality and limp away too late,” he said in the statement.
“We are saddened to learn of the passing of Vontae Davis,” the Bills said in a statement posted to social media. “We are thinking of his friends, family, and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Sporting CP manager Rúben Amorim dismissed speculation about his future and emphasised that his primary focus is on winning trophies with the Portuguese club this season.
Despite being linked to the top job atPremier League leaders Liverpool amid Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure, Amorim remains committed to Sporting CP.
The rumors intensified after Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, reportedly the frontrunner to replace Klopp, reaffirmed his commitment to the Bundesliga club last week.
“The manager is clearly Sporting’s manager, Sporting’s manager and only Sporting’s manager,” Amorim stressed. “The players know how much they want to win and I want to win titles for Sporting. They are clear that everyone is focused on winning titles.”
Amorim dismissed reports suggesting that Sporting has identified a successor in 37-year-old Englishman Anthony Barry, who currently serves as the assistant coach at Bayern Munich and the Portugal national team.
“The only thing that annoys me is that they already had a replacement for me,” Amorim joked. “That’s what got me the most upset, even today I told Viana [Hugo Viana, Sporting’s director of football] to calm down because it’s not like that.”
Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong has caught the attention of Bayern Munich and Manchester United, as reported by Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Deutschland.
Several top clubs are monitoring the 23-year-old wing-back, who has impressed this season with eight goals and seven assists in 25 league appearances for Die Werkself.
There’s speculation that a release clause in Frimpong’s contract, valued at €45 million, could be triggered, but he remains under contract at the BayArena until 2028.
With manager Xabi Alonso committing to Leverkusen, Frimpong may consider staying, especially considering his improved performances under Alonso’s guidancesince October 2022.

Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD)has responded to widespread concerns regarding a circulated memo proposing the procurement of iPad keyboards for its Board of Directors.
The memo, originating from the Information Systems Department, sought approval for the purchase of iPad keyboards priced at Four Thousand Five Hundred Cedis (GH¢4,500.00) each for the board.
This led to significant criticism both online and offline.
However, in a statement released on April 1, 2024, COCOBOD management clarified that the memo was merely a proposal request and had not been authorized for procurement.
It clarified that the request was made in light of adopting the “CONVENE” app to enhance productivity and reduce paper usage during board meetings.
The statement emphasized that the request is still pending approval, and that no transactions have taken place.

A self-acclaimed data hub on X (formerly Twitter) @Datanomics has alleged that the government of Ghana has collateralized GHC24bn worth of the Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA) for a GHC6bn upfront loan.
The ESLA is a levy imposed on consumers in Ghana to help fund various initiatives and projects in the energy sector, including debt repayment, infrastructure development, and subsidies for fuel and electricity.
This claim was made on March 30, 2024, in response to a TV3 report stating that the government instructed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to generate one billion Ghana Cedis monthly to compensate energy sector stakeholders.
As per the tweet, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is facing a significant burden because the proceeds from the ESLA levy have reportedly been used as collateral for an upfront loan by the current government.
ESLA accrues Gh¢3.5bn annually. From its 2015 introduction, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia gov’t has raked in Gh¢24bn.
Gov’t orders ECG to raise Gh¢1bn monthly to pay industry players. This comes after they’ve mortgaged ESLA for $1bn (Gh¢6bn) upfront loan.
ESLA generates a substantial annual sum of Gh¢3.5 billion, which theoretically should be adequate to address various financial challenges coupled with its consequences , including the ongoing nationwide power outages (dumsor) being experienced.
The tweet reads, “ESLA accrues Gh¢3.5bn annually. From its 2015 introduction, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia gov’t has raked in Gh¢24bn. Gov’t orders ECG to raise Gh¢1bn monthly to pay industry players.
This comes after they’ve mortgaged ESLA for a $1bn (Gh¢6bn) upfront loan. This dumsor is unforgivable!!”
Ghana’s Vice President and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate for the 2024 presidential elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed his readiness to immediately assume office upon receiving the mandate from the Ghanaian people.
In contrast, his main opponent, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has indicated a desire for a period of rest before assuming leadership responsibilities.
Speaking to party supporters and Easter celebrants in Kwahu, Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of vigorous campaigning and extensive grassroots engagement to secure victory for the NPP in the upcoming elections.
He urged everyone present to actively promote and advocate for the party’s policies and achievements at all times.
“Unlike Mahama, he wants a honeymoon. After being elected, he won’t come back again so he won’t mind you. As for me, I’ll come back in 2028. So, I would have to ensure I do my best for you all. So, everyone must campaign very well.
“Today, we are going door to door, house to house to campaign to bring victory. It is possible, we are going to break the eight,” he said during his “It is Possible Mega Easter Walk and Mini Rally” at Kwahu on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
During the event, the vice president unveiled new strategies that his government plans to implement to tackle illegal mining if elected.
Former president and flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDC), John Mahama, visited the party’s call centre at the Accra Digital Centre on March 29, 2024, to test their call system setup as they prepare for the 2024 polls in December.
The purpose of testing the call system setup was to showcase its functionality and ensure its operational readiness.
This is done to ensure that all procedures are appropriately followed in the setup, operation, and closing of electronic voting equipment at polling stations.
Hence, in a bid to test the party’s call system, the former president placed a call to a student lawyer at Christian Preparatory School, Bumso, in the Ashanti Region.
“Yesterday, at the secretariat’s call centre, John Mahama personally engaged with a Ghanaian, randomly selected, to demonstrate the functionality of the call system setup.”

A tragic event occurred inGomoa Budumburam, resulting in the death of a pregnant woman and leaving her two-year-old son in critical condition after their house was demolished in a mass eviction operation.
The woman, known only as Serwaa, lost her life shortly after being rushed to St. Gregory Hospital, while her son remains in critical condition at the same medical facility.
Eyewitnesses reported that Serwaa was asleep in her room when the demolition began, catching her and her family by surprise.
The Traditional Authorities in Gomoa Fetteh initiated the mass eviction about a month ago after reclaiming the land, which had been allocated to Liberian refugees during the Liberian war for resettlement.
Stephen Gyamera, the landlord of the demolished house, expressed shock over the incident, stating that other residents were unaware that Serwaa was inside her room at the time of the demolition.
An eyewitness, Gifty Ankrah, speaking to Citi News, said, “The machine has been demolishing our buildings for over a month now. We are surprised at how the traditional authority in Gomoa Fetteh is embarking on the demolition. Interestingly, no government official has said anything about the act.
“Women and children have slept outside for over a month since the demolition started. So far over five thousand citizens and Liberian refugees have been rendered homeless, including women and children.”
Manager of Burnley, Vincent Kompany, has voiced his concern on Monday regarding the declining quality of refereeing in the current Premier League season.
He added his voice to the widespread criticism of officiating following several contentious decisions.
During Saturday’s match against Chelsea, Kompany’s team found themselves down to 10 players. The former Belgium defender himself received a red card for objecting to a disputed penalty decision.
Despite being in a precarious position near the relegation zone, sitting 19th in the table with only eight games remaining, Burnley managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
“The frustration comes from that it’s a succession of mistakes and it is always debatable,” Kompany said in a news conference.
“The effect is on points and on our season; I suppose all of that kind of gives you a feeling of being more angry, but when the next moment comes, I have to do my best [to not react]. I hope it doesn’t happen again this season. “I keep saying what I think: I won’t shy away from it. I have said it to the officials that the refereeing has not been good enough this season. I have said that in a constructive way.
“Last year I said English refereeing was the best in the world; I felt there was always common sense being applied — this year I have not felt like this.”
Vincent Kompany, the former Manchester City captain, mentioned that he has apologised to the officials following the Chelsea game.
Next up, Burnley will host Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are currently in the 10th position, on Tuesday.
“All we’re asking is to have an opportunity, so if between now and the end of the season we have one opportunity, that’s enough for us,” Kompany said.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Luis Enrique expressed frustration with journalists who repeatedly inquire about decisions regarding Kylian Mbappé’s playing time, labelling such questioning as “boring.”
Despite his team’s commendable 2-0 victory over Marseille in Le Classique on Sunday, even after playing with 10 men for over 50 minutes, Enrique remained irked when asked about substituting Mbappé for Gonçalo Ramos in the 65th minute.
“It’s the same music, every single week. It’s so boring,” he said on the Amazon Prime Video broadcast after the result.
“I am the manager. I make decisions every day, every week. I am going to the same until my last day in Paris.
“I always try to find the best solution for my team. Maybe I am wrong, but I think I am right.”
Since news broke of Kylian Mbappé’s intention to depart PSG and negotiations with Real Madrid commenced, manager Luis Enrique has frequently omitted him from the starting lineup or substituted him off during matches.
Despite this, Mbappé has remained pivotal in PSG’s Champions League endeavors, with sources revealing that he and Enrique held discussions in early March to address concerns over reduced playing time.
As PSG faces Barcelona in the quarterfinals, Enrique expressed optimism that Mbappé might reconsider his decision to leave, especially if the team achieves success in multiple competitions.
A tweet from popular X user @WithAlvin__ captures a video featuring a man, purportedly Ghanaian, discussing a plot of land in the United States of America (USA), specifically Maryland.
In the video, the man, dressed in a black round neck shirt, proudly displays a piece of land that he asserts he owns.
He emphasises that the cost of this land is “100 times” cheaper than plots in Accra, Ghana, and Lagos.
“He said, “So this peace of land behind me is somewhere in Maryland, USA, which is 100 times cheaper than some of the land we have in Accra, Ghana or even Lagos, Nigeria. Now the thing is, when I purchased this land, it was guaranteed that it is all mine.”
Slamming African leaders over their indifferent posture in resolving litigation challenges, he advised that Africans consider investing in more affordable land in America and Europe to avoid what he describes as “no nonsense” challenges associated with land litigation.
“There’s not going to be any litigation, no nonsense. So if I had purchased a similar plot of land in Accra, Ghana, there would be about 5 people who would come around and tell me they owed this land.
If you are out there in Africa, in Ghana, or in Lagos, wherever there are land disputes, our leaders aren’t solving those problems; start looking to the west, Europe, the Americas; start looking out here; pull resources together if you are a group of friends; and start buying land here. Forget about the disputes down there, or leaders aren’t visionary, they don’t want to solve this problem,” he advised .
A land in USA cheaper 100 times than a same plot of land in a prime place in Accra. Why?

Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has inaugurated 15 new transformer installations in the Ashanti West Region as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance power supply for customers in the area.
This initiative follows the identification of 630 transformers nationwide, with 46 located specifically in the Ashanti West Region, that were nearing their full capacity.
To ensure improved power distribution, ECG has been conducting thorough inspections of transformers both during the day and at night to assess their condition and monitor load levels.
The newly commissioned transformers, along with upgrades to existing lines and transformers operating at full capacity, are situated in various towns across districts including Ahinsan, Abuakwa, Bibiani, Suame, and Offinso.
Specific locations benefiting from these installations include Wood Village Estate, Foase, Twedie Foase, Dompoase Salvation School, Bokankye, Kwamekrom, Achiase Market, New Aduampong, Consor Junction, Odumase Fungy, and Saint International School at Barekese.
According to Mr. Maxwell Dapaah, the Regional General Manager for ECG in Ashanti West, the company’s objective is to ensure the provision of reliable, high-quality, and safe electricity services to facilitate Ghana’s socio-economic development.
He emphasised that completing this project was essential to address issues such as low voltage and localised outages that were occurring due to transformers operating at full capacity.
“Every transformer has a capacity of electricity (load) it can carry so if the capacity is 200 KVA, the electricity should not exceed that capacity. Once we identified transformers reaching full capacity, we upgraded from 200 KVA to 315KVA and in some locations, a 500 KVA transformer was commissioned to take care of the increasing demand.”
The General Manager highlighted that the project brings several advantages, including a reduction in system losses, enhanced reliability, and a more stable power supply in the area.
These improvements aim to increase customer satisfaction and operational efficiency, allowing the company to better meet the growing demand for electricity in the region.
The Regional Engineer of Ashanti West Region emphasised the significance of completing the project, stating that it represents a positive step towards providing reliable and high-quality power supply.
This, in turn, supports the attraction and sustainability of businesses in the region while ensuring that all customers receive satisfactory service from ECG.
Ing. Osei Amoako also announced that the company is also embarking on other projects in the region to enhance service delivery and provide convenience for customers. “We are constructing a substation at Agogo. We are also upgrading other transformers and distribution lines that we have identified to be reaching full capacity to augment power supply in the region.”
Ing. Osei Amoako cautioned the public to desist from unlawful entry into the network of ECG and urged customers to report people who interfere with the ECG network to the police or the nearest ECG Office as part of efforts to help protect ECG installations like poles, transformers, metres, and pylons.
“Customers experiencing outages within their premises should kindly contact our contact centre on 0302611611, report to the nearest ECG office, lodge a complaint on the ECG PowerApp or reach us on our social media handles @ECGghOfficial,” he said.
He encouraged customers to refrain from engaging in illegal connections and to ensure timely payment of their bills. This, he emphasised, would enable ECG to enhance its service delivery by completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones for the benefit of its customers.
Mr. Dapaah also advised customers to utilize the newly introduced cashless payment system offered by ECG. He suggested that they pay their bills through this system before ECG officials visit their premises, facilitating smoother transactions and ensuring efficient service provision.
“We urge our customers to pay their bills by downloading the ECG PowerApp from the Google Play Store or AppStore or through the shortcode *226# before our revenue officers visit their premises since this system enables customers to transact business with ECG anywhere or anytime. Customers can also pay at any bank.”
Customers who intend to visit theECG office for any transactions are advised to preload the necessary funds onto their mobile money wallets beforehand. This is because the ECG office no longer accepts cash payments.
Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has denied accusations of imposing excessively high port charges, stating that it is responsible for only around 10% of the total fees and levies at the ports.
Director-General Michael Luguji emphasised this point during a meeting with Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam and his delegation.
He called for a thorough review and restructuring of the port clearance system to ease the financial burden on importers.
Luguji pointed out that while the GPHA is often associated with port-related charges, a closer examination of invoices reveals a variety of customs duties, levies, and fees from other government agencies that are not under the purview of the GPHA.
“Whenever a typical invoice is raised from the port, then the agency that comes to mind is the GPHA, which everyone knows as the Authority that handles port stuff.
However, when you study the invoice carefully, there are customs duties, levies, and other government agency charges that cannot be attributed to GPHA in any way.
“Counting the number of levies and taxes, I can see about 22 government taxes or levies on the invoice of an importer and this is a challenge because we did research that indicates that our contribution to that entire cost of clearing is less than 10%”, Luguji stated, stressing the need for a fairer distribution of costs within the port system.
The purpose of the finance minister’s visit, along with ministry officials, was to gain direct insight into port operations, demonstrating the government’s dedication to addressing issues and enhancing efficiencywithin the port industry.
Renowned entrepreneur and Chairman of the Kama Group, Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, has reiterated the severe economic challenges facing Ghanaians, emphasising that the times are undeniably difficult.
The accomplished business leader, now in his seventies, expressed frustration over the disruption of his pension plans due to the government’s cleanup of the banking sector, resulting in the loss of his savings accumulated over 30 years to support him in his old age.
Dr. Addo revealed that he is currently facing difficulties with his expenses, as he is constantly being pursued by either the Ghana Revenue Authority or the Electricity Company of Ghana, which is threatening to disconnect his power supply.
Speaking at a book launch, the man whose life story has been regarded as emblematic of resilience in the face of adversity, lamented the hardships faced by many, concluding his remarks with the Akan phrase “YƐƐbrƐ oo,” meaning “we are truly suffering.”
“I am a ‘pensioneer’ (sic) and all my money, I must confess – I know I’m on air – the money that I saved to take care of my pension time has been taken over by the banking clean-up. So I don’t have the money to support such a wonderful book. And if I tell you how much that I saved for over 30 years to take care of my position now, you would weep for me.
I have one of the best pharmaceutical manufacturing companies, WHO standards in Tema. But because my money has been locked up and they cannot give it to me, I’m having problems with my overhead. I’m telling you, either GRA is on your neck or the Electricity Company has come to put off your light. ‘YƐƐbrƐ oo’.
NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has unveiled a significant policy shift regarding the government’s response to illegal mining, or galamsey, activities.
Speaking at a gathering of enthusiastic NPP supporters during a health walk in Kwahu, Eastern Region, on March 30, Dr. Bawumia announced a departure from the previous practice of burning confiscated excavators.
While acknowledging the efforts made by the NPP in combating galamsey over the past seven years, he emphasised the necessity for a fresh approach to effectively tackle the issue.
Dr. Bawumia pledged to implement a revamped strategy aimed at combating illegal mining while also preserving seized equipment, particularly excavators, if elected.
“We are going to help small-scale miners; we will introduce a mineral development bank to get money for them. There is a new regime for small-scale miners, we will not burn your seized excavators,” he said.
Additionally, he underscored that the current NPP administration, under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, has surpassed the previous Mahama government in every facet of the economy.
“Jobs, we have performed better, agricultural growth, we have performed better,Zongo development, we have performed better, roads, we have performed better, airports, we have performed better, interchanges, we have performed better,” he noted.
She added, “We have been collating the numbers from August last year till date.”
Ofori-Ampofo highlighted that these individuals sought opportunities elsewhere due to inadequate salaries. She shared these insights during an appearance on TV3’s Hot Issues program on Sunday, March 31.
Ofori-Ampofo said, “When we had to send student trainees to these rural areas, you would see first-hand the trouble people have to go through just to provide service or live in such areas, and it hasn’t changed over the years. It is still the same.”
Ofori-Ampofo also mentioned to TV3’s Keminni Amanor that certain nurses are being assigned to work in mud houses, and many of them are unwilling to accept placements in such rural areas. Additionally, she emphasised the urgent need for assistance in the health sector, stressing that infrastructural development is paramount and extends beyond the provision of medical supply drones.
“The health sector needs more improvement than just drones. We need to improve and ensure that the equipment we need and the medications we need are always available. Storage systems are available.
“If they were there and you had storage to ensure that you kept those medications at the right temperature or the blood at the right [place], why would you need a drone to deliver it from somewhere else?” she quizzed.
She also noted that “when you talk about the health system, it needs to be a more coordinated effort with all sectors. So, transport or road networks, housing, utilities. All those things, everything needs to work together for the good of the community in which Ghanaians are living.”
In recent weeks, intermittent power cuts have wreaked havoc on medical equipment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), including its vital Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) system.
This system, which relies on integrated batteries to provide power during outages, has suffered due to the sporadic nature of the disruptions.
As a result, essential hospital machinery has broken down, severely impacting productivity and healthcare delivery.
The unannounced power outages have also caused damage to lifesaving equipment dependent on a consistent power supply.
At the Manhyia Government Hospital, similar challenges have been faced, with the facility forced to rely on standby generators to maintain operations during power interruptions.
The frequent on-off cycles and voltage fluctuations have further exacerbated the situation, causing additional strain on hospital resources and equipment.
The highly anticipated match between the Gunners and the reigning champions ended in a stalemate at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite Arsenal’s impressive goal-scoring form leading up to the game, Mikel Arteta’s defensive approach resulted in a lacklustre offensive display against the defending champions.
Talking after the match, Guardiola said [via The Telegraph]: “How to beat Arsenal’s low block? Kill someone. Play with nine. They defend well and a lot. Surrounding Erling [Haaland]. Be patient and find the pass. They defended well with a lot of people. There are different ways. They did well with the press and then after the block.
“It doesn’t matter how many players you defend: the main target is not to concede. The low block was really difficult [to play against]. We prefer to win obviously but we take the draw.”
According to Guardiola, the Premier League title is now Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s to lose. He stated that his Manchester City side is currently the third favorite to win the league, with Arsenal positioned as the second favorite.
Liverpool leads the race with 67 points, closely followed by Arsenal, while City trails behind by three points in third place.
With only nine matchdays left in the season, the battle for the title between these three teams is expected to be intense.
Guardiola andManchester City can only focus on winning their remaining games and hope for slip-ups from both Arsenal and Liverpool if they are to secure the title for the third consecutive year.
Office of the Attorney General has asked theGhana Police Service to stop impounding vehicles when drivers commit minor road offenses.
A statement by the AG to the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), indicated that it has received incessant complaints from the public including legal practitioners, and senior officials, about the tendencies of police officers to impound or prohibit the use of their vehicles for minor offences under the Road Traffic Regulations 2012 (L.I. 2180).
Referencing this regulation, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, argued that the law prescribes penalties for minor offenders, including the payment of fines or serving a jail term.
As such the impounding of the vehicles does not necessarily prove a violation of any of the rules as stated in Regulations 158 or L.I. 2180.
The Attorney General’s Office has urged the Ghana Police Service to refrain from seizing vehicles for minor traffic violations. In a statement addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the AG’s Office noted receiving numerous complaints from the public, legal professionals, and senior officials regarding the practice of impounding vehicles for minor infractions under the Road Traffic Regulations 2012(L.I. 2180).
Citing Regulation 158 of L.I. 2180, Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame argued that the law stipulates penalties for minor offenses, such as fines or imprisonment.
Therefore, impounding vehicles for such violations does not necessarily constitute a breach of the regulations.
“Thus, a position that the vehicle is required to be ‘used as an exhibit’ in court is untenable and unreasonable.
“As Attorney General and the principal legal advisor to the government, I advise that police officers should desist from impounding or prohibition of the use of a motor vehicle for minor offences such as an alleged violation of any of the rules of the road contained in Regulation 106, and other provision pertaining crossing the red light or driving a vehicle without a valid insurance certificate, etc.,” part of the statement read.
Read statement below :
RE: IMPOUNDING OF OR PROHIBITION OF THE USE OF MOTOR VEHICLES FOR MINOR VIOLATIONS OF ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATIONS
I wish your good self and the Ghana Police Service a Happy New Year.
The Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice has received incessant complaints from members of the public, including lawyers and senior public officials about the tendency of officers of the Ghana Police Service to impound or prohibit the use of motor vehicles deemed to have violated provisions of the Road Traffic Regulations 2012 (L. I. 2180).
The provisions of L. I. 2180 under which police officers regularly exercise the discretion to impound vehicles, relate to alleged violations of the “Rules of the road” contained in Regulation 106. and other provisions pertaining to crossing the red light or driving a vehicle without a valid insurance certificate.
A reason often advanced by police officers for impounding a vehicle is the necessity to “use the vehicle as an exhibit” in court proceedings. Whilst noting the mandate of personnel of the Ghana Police Service, we observe that relevant provisions of Regulation 158 of L. I. 2180 which govern the power to inspect, impound and prohibit the use of motor vehicles stipulate as follows:
“158(1) An examiner, an authorised vehicle inspector appointed by the Licensing Authority or a police officer may inspect a motor vehicle or a trailer to ascertain whether the provisions of the Act or a regulation made or permit issued under the Act are being complied with.
(2) In the event of non-compliance, an examiner authorised by the Licensing Authority or a police officer not below the rank of inspector may by order in writing prohibit the further use of the motor vehicle or the trailer until the provision has been complied with.
(5) Where a motor vehicle or trailer is found parked on a road, a police officer may impound the motor vehicle or trailer or cause it to be taken to a police station or place of safety and be detained there until the owner of the motor vehicle or trailer and the person driving the motor vehicle or responsible for the trailer can be identified and dealt with as provided for under these Regulations.
(7) A person who contravenes this regulation commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than twenty-five penalty units and not more than fifty penalty units or to a term of imprisonment of not more than three months or to both.”
A careful examination of L. I. 2180 will disclose that the violations, for which police officers regularly impound vehicles, including Regulation 106 (Rules of the road) and other provisions relating to ignoring red light and driving without a valid insurance, are misdemeanours. This is easily discernible from the prescribed punishment of a maximum of fifty penalty units, or a term of imprisonment of not more than three months or to both. By virtue of section 1 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). a “misdemeanour” is construed in accordance with section 296 of the Criminal and other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30). Section 296(4) of Act 30 stipulates as follows:
“Where a criminal offence which is not an offence mentioned in subsection (5), is declared by an enactment to be a misdemeanour and the punishment for that offence is not specified, a person convicted of that offence is liable to a term of imprisonment not exceeding three years.” It is thus beyond doubt that the violations the subject matter of this letter are misdemeanours.
An application of the road traffic regulations, particularly Regulation 158 requires fairness, candour and reasonableness. The impounding of a vehicle is not necessary for proof of a violation of any of the rules contained in Regulation 158 or indeed, most of the provisions in L. I. 2180. Thus, a position that the vehicle is required to be “used as an exhibit” in court is untenable and unreasonable.
As Attorney-General and the principal legal adviser to the Government, I advise that police officers should desist from the impounding or prohibition of the use of a motor vehicle for minor offences such as an alleged violation of any of the rules of the road contained in Regulation 106, and other provisions pertaining to crossing the red light or driving a vehicle without a valid insurance certificate. etc.
An unreasonable exercise of discretion or a failure to adhere to the advice herein has the tendency to result in unnecessary suits against the Government, occasioning needless expense and potentially avoidable judgment debts. The Office of the Attorney-General is already inundated with many suits arising from wrongful exercise of discretion and negligence by police officers. Further, it ought to be noted that responsibility for maintaining the condition of an impounded vehicle shifts from the owner of the vehicle to the State. Impounded vehicles are exposed to the risks of deterioration and theft of essential parts.
On Saturday, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, led the residents of Kumasi in a large-scale clean-up campaign across the city. Similar efforts were undertaken in all traditional areas within the Ashanti region.
The purpose of the exercise was to ensure that all communities were tidy and prepared for the forthcoming 25th-anniversary celebrations marking Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s reign as the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool.
Accompanied by Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Sam Pyne, the Mayor of Kumasi, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, municipal chief executives, and other government officials, the Asantehene inspected the progress of the clean-up operation.
Various neighbourhoods, including Tafo, Bantama, Adum, Alabar, and others, were visited.
The participation from the community was significant, with residents actively engaging in the clean-up efforts. The initiative received logistical support from Zoomlion.
To facilitate widespread participation, business activities and commercial transportation services were temporarily suspended until noon, allowing traders, drivers, businessmen and women, and all residents to take part in the clean-up exercise.
After the passing of John Kumah, the Member of Parliament for Ejisu, the constituency has become a hub of political activity as nine members of theNew Patriotic Party (NPP) gear up to compete for the vacant seat.
Among the prominent contenders is Kwesi Nyantakyi, former President of the Ghana Football Association, whose participation at the Ashanti Region campaign launch of the ruling party indicated his interest in running for the position.
Also in the running is Abena Pokuaa Boaitey, known as ‘Ejisu Bronii,’ making her fifth bid to secure the constituency’s mandate.
She serves as the CEO of Golden Beach Hotels Group.
Lawyer Portia Acheampong Abronye, wife of the NPP’s Bono Region Chairman, has also joined the race, along with Helena Mensah, the current Presiding Member of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly.
Former Presiding Member of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly, Michael Owusu, has declared his intention to vie for the seat as well.
Additionally, the current Constituency Chairman of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly, Kofi Agyapong, has thrown his hat into the ring, alongside executive member Kwabena Boateng.
Dr. Evans Duah, a lecturer at the Akenten Appiah Menkah University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), has also announced his candidacy for the parliamentary seat.
On Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, head of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, extended prayers and words of praise to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during a visit to his church.
A widely circulated video depicts Bawumia seated on a ceremonial chair while Owusu-Bempah offers whispered prayers for him.
Following the prayers, Owusu-Bempah addressed Bawumia, conveying a cryptic message to him: “Nobody understands what I have done; only heavens do. God bless you. You’re a good man, and you have a good heart.”
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is currently touring various regions to convey his campaign message to the Ghanaian people.
Parliament is urging the Supreme Court to accelerate the resolution of the interlocutory injunctions against the anti-gay bill, which were initiated by private legal practitioner Richard Dela Sky and gender activist Dr. Amanda Odoi.
Both Richard Dela Sky and Dr. Odoi have separately filed lawsuits against the anti-gay bill, seeking to prevent President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from enacting it into law, citing violations of constitutional rights of homosexual individuals.
Parliament contends that while a similar case involving MP for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has already been adjudicated, the cases brought by Richard Dela Sky and Dr. Odoi are still pending before the court.
In a letter to the Supreme Court’s Registrar, dated Thursday, March 28, 2024, lawyers for Parliament, Sory at Law Barristers and Solicitors, said, “It will accordingly be appreciated if the parties are given a very early date to expedite the hearing of the applications pending before the Court. We trust that as the applications raise matters of public interest, you will give our letter the attention it deserves.”
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the Attorney-General for perceived bias following the Supreme Court’s decision to prioritize the trial involving the South Dayi MP’s application against the approval of ministerial nominees, while Richard Sky’s case against the anti-LGBTQ Bill remains pending.
In reaction to the lawsuits, the Presidency has intervened by halting the transmission of the anti-gay bill for assent. Despite this, Parliament has recently passed the contentious anti-gay bill.
National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo Esq., also known as Pablo, has blamed Ghanaian electorates for the current energy sector crisis the country is experiencing.
According to him, if Ghanaians had voted for the NDC’s John Mahama and not the New Patriotic Party’s Akufo-Addo, the country would have been spared from the erratic power supply being experienced.
He made this statement in a post on X while reacting to a report indicating the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has started an exercise to check on various power transformers across the country to identify and fix faults that can help sustain power.
“I blame y’all for this nonsense. Y’all who queued and voted for Akuffo Addo and Bawumia twice are accomplices of this sheer disrespect to our intelligence.” He chastised the governing party for disrespecting Ghanaians by failing to admit that the country is experiencing “dumsor” owing to mismanagement of the energy sector.
Mr Opare Addo also condemned the government for failing to pay the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) what it owes them. He believes the current erratic power supply is due to debt owed IPPs and not faulty distribution transformers.
Minority in Parliament is calling for health facilities to be spared from the ongoing unannounced and unscheduled electricity load shedding conducted by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). Additionally, they are pushing for an audit to assess the capacity and dependability of backup power systems in hospitals.
“The Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with relevant agencies, must, without delay, exempt all health facilities nationwide from the current unannounced and unscheduled electricity load shedding and power outages.”
“The Ministry of Health working in tandem with the Ghana Health Service should audit all alternate power supply systems within health facilities to determine their capacity and reliability in handling electricity disruptions and procurement of emergency power supply systems should be done if current systems are inadequate,” the caucus stated in a release issued by Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and MP for Juaboso on Thursday.
The Minority expressed concern over reports that the power outages have led to increased morbidity and mortality among patients, particularly those relying on public health facilities.
“Amid these happenings, the government has refused to heed wise counsel from suffering Ghanaians and businesses to publish a load shedding timetable to enable them to plan their lives. This situation has obviously begun to take a toll on critical healthcare facilities across the country,” it added.
The caucus strongly argued that during a period of purported surplus capacity, the government’s decision to impose a load-shedding program is deeply unjustified. There is simply no acceptable reason for disrupting electricity supply, particularly to vital health facilities.
“We therefore demand swift action from relevant authorities toaddress these critical issues and safeguard the delivery of vital health services to Ghanaians,” it added.
Organizer of theEuropean Championship, UEFA, announced on Thursday its willingness to consider expanding national team squads from 23 to 26 players for the upcoming tournament in Germany.
The suggestion for larger squads came from Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman, who argued that the prevalence of injuries in modern football justified the need for more players.
During Euro 2020, which was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the FIFA World Cup in 2022, UEFA permitted teams to have 26-man squads to accommodate health protocols and potential player isolations.
However, UEFA had previously settled on 23-player squads for Euro 2024.
In preparation for the tournament, UEFA plans to convene coaches and officials from all 24 participating teams in Düsseldorf, Germany, in two weeks’ time.
“A workshop with the participating teams will be held on April 8 and on that occasion UEFA will listen to the views of the coaches,” the European football body said. “Any idea in this respect will then be considered and assessed.”
Koeman wants his national federation to ask UEFA for an increase and noted this week “you have to deal more with injuries these days.”
“It is about the load carrying ability of the players,” Koeman said on Tuesday after his team’s 2-1 loss to Germany, suggesting host team coach Julian Nagelsmann agreed.
England coach Gareth Southgate said there had been a “little bit of talk amongst some of the coaches” to ask for 26.
Southgate said he did not plan to pressure UEFA for an increase, though acknowledged the extra numbers would lessen the risk of selecting preferred players who carried injuries.
“We’ve been able to give people time,” said Southgate, who is taking England to his fourth major tournament as the coach, “but with 23 that’s definitely more difficult.”
The extent of interest among the 24 coaches for a larger squad, potentially accommodating more players who may not see significant game time, remains uncertain.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Pelumi posted images of her damaged car and requested prayers from her followers. The accident occurred just 24 hours after her arrival in Liberia, marking a significant setback in her journey.
Pelumi’s original plan was to return to Lagos on March 23, 2024, but due to various challenges encountered during her journey, she rescheduled her return to April 7, 2024.
Nubi arrived in Liberia on March 24 from Sierra Leone, marking the 11th country on her journey.
However, she faced a setback when the Liberian immigration service refused entry to her right-hand vehicle, named ‘Lumi,’ forcing her to spend two nights at the Liberian border.
Despite eventual entry into Liberia, Pelumi’s experience was marred by a serious car accident.
Her travel ordeal sheds light on the challenges African migrants encounter while moving within the continent, as highlighted by the African Union’s recent release of the second edition of the African migration report, which underscores that migration primarily occurs within Africa rather than outside the continent.
Fulham has revealed ambitious designs for the revamped Riverside Stand, featuring a range of deluxe matchday offerings that club chairman Shahid Khan promises will be “unprecedented” unlike anything in football.
The stand underwent renovation starting in 2019, with the lower tier accessible to fans in 2022.
Completion of the upper tier means supporters can enjoy the new facilities starting from the commencement of the 2024-25 season.
“My vision for the New Riverside Stand was to provide our fans, and our neighbourhood, with a destination that would continue to honour our history and tradition at Craven Cottage every day of the year, but especially so on matchdays with a premium experience that will be unlike anything in football, here in London or elsewhere,” Khan said in a statement.
There are seven matchday experiences on offer to fans in the Riverside Stand, with the top three floors comprising of a “Sky Deck” — a rooftop providing views of the London skyline and the Thames, along with “experiential food and drink pop-ups.” Images released by the club also show a swimming pool on “Sky Deck.”
Fans at Fulham will have the option to enjoy two dining experiences endorsed by Michelin Stars: “The Gourmet” and “The Brasserie”. The latter boasts a unique setting with dual views of an open-air riverside terrace on one side and a pitch view from the halfway line on the other.

“The Dugout” will be open to the public from the start of next season while the rest of the Riverside experiences are scheduled to open in Dec. 2024.
“Our vision for the New Riverside Stand at Craven Cottage was to create a unique experience that has not been seen before, whether in the context of football or beyond,” Philip Johnson, the lead architect of the New Riverside Stand project, said.
“It’s a privilege to bring this innovative design to life, with amazing spaces set to house incredible experiences for fans and guests and a world-class terrace that will drive the atmosphere in the ground, all set in a unique location on the banks of the Thames.”
Alves, who spent approximately 10 minutes in court without addressing the media present outside, had been released from prison earlier in the week after posting the required €1 million ($1.08 million) bail while awaiting the outcome of his appeal against a rape conviction.
Dressed in a brown jacket over white shirt, pants, and shoes, Alves exited the courthouse and proceeded to a waiting car nearby.
He is mandated to appear in court every Friday, as well as any other time when ordered.
Last month, Alves was convicted of raping a woman in a nightclub in December 2022 and sentenced to four years and six months in prison.
Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is facing charges from the English Football Association (FA) for alleged misconduct related to breaches of the federation’s betting regulations.
“It’s alleged that the Newcastle United midfielder breached FA Rule E8 50 times by placing bets on football matches between 12 August 2023 and 12 October 2023,” the FA said in a statement.
The Football Association (FA) has set a deadline of April 5 for Tonali to respond to the charges brought against him.
Tonali, who transferred to Newcastle from AC Milan in July last year, faced a 10-month ban from football in October 2023 after being found guilty of betting on matches in Italy, following an inquiry by prosecutors in Turin.
His agent, Giuseppe Riso, had previously stated that Tonali struggles with a “gambling addiction.”
In an official statement, Newcastle acknowledged the charges against Tonali and affirmed that the player continues to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigations, receiving unwavering support from the club.
Despite the allegations, Tonali has featured in 11 matches forNewcastle across various competitions this season, finding the net once.
A video has surfaced showing Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, assuring payment to volunteers at the2023 African Games.
Recorded during a press briefing on March 4, 2024, Ussif discussed the expenses incurred for the games, including facility costs.
He also stated that volunteers would be supported, including provision of food and allowances.
“Allowance for volunteers. The volunteers for the games are going to be fed and given allowances,” Mustapha Ussif said although he didn’t state the amount.
Despite assurances from the Sports Minister, volunteers have yet to receive any allowances after the Games ended.
The volunteers’ demand for allowances has sparked conflicts with personnel from the Ghana Police Service.
Participant in the Save Ghana Football demonstration, Bright Kankam Boadu, suggests a change in strategy for the group to effectively address the issues plaguing Ghanaian football.
Speaking on Pure FM, Kankam Boadu acknowledges that while demonstrations serve to highlight football’s challenges in Ghana, he doubts their efficacy in achieving desired outcomes.
Kankam Boadu advocates for a more aggressive approach, citing the perceived indifference of the Ghana Football Association. He proposes a radical shift, including boycotting national team matches, including those of the Black Stars.
He believes this new tactic will compel the Ghana Football Association to reconsider its operations and implement the group’s proposed reforms.
“My point is that there is as much as we can do with demonstrations. We can do demonstrations across the country and still not make the needed impact. If the people (GFA) do not want to act, they will not. My point is that we should move the demonstration from just walking on the streets to calling for boycotts, including Black Stars matches. Let’s do that until the right things are done,” he said.
Bright Kankam Boadu gave an update on the demonstration held on February 14, 2024. After the demonstration, the GFA issued a statement, expressing interest in meeting the convenors to discuss solutions to the challenges in Ghana football.
However, Kankam Boadu noted that the GFA has not fulfilled their promise and has ignored three follow-up letters from the demonstrators.
“We’ve written three reminders to theFA but they have not replied to any of them. We’ve also written to parliament so, we are waiting for them. We had support from parliament and the sports ministry for the Accra demonstration. All the relevant authorities received our petition. Parliament recognized us and promised to act on our concerns,” he disclosed.
Manchester United’s young midfielder,Kobbie Mainoo, showcased his talent in England’s 2-2 draw against Belgium, earning him the Man of the Match award.
The 18-year-old, who has been progressing well at Manchester United, delivered an impressive performance on the field.
Starting in the game against Belgium at Wembley on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, Mainoo displayed remarkable skill and was instrumental in setting up Ivan Toney’s equalizing goal from a penalty kick after England initially conceded an early goal.
Ultimately, Jude Bellingham secured the victory for the Three Lions with a goal in injury time.
Mainoo’s outstanding performance throughout the match rightfully earned him the Man of the Match accolade.
Professor Larry Diamond, a renowned democracy scholar affiliated with the Hoover Institute and Stanford University, has cautioned Ghana about the potential dire consequences of passing thecontroversial anti-gay bill into law.
The Ministry of Finance has joined the chorus of voices urging President Akufo-Addo to refrain from giving his approval to the bill recently endorsed by Parliament.
According to the Ministry, Ghana could face significant financial fallout if the bill is enacted.
The Ministry’s statement highlighted the risk of losing substantial World Bank funding, projecting a potential loss of USD$3.8 billion over the next five to six years.
Speaking on Citi TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle, Professor Diamond emphasized the economic catastrophe that could result from passing the bill.
He underscored the likelihood of foreign investors imposing restrictions on Ghana due to its infringement on the rights of a minority group.
Professor Diamond also argued that Western nations are primarily driving the anti-gay agenda in Africa, exacerbating the situation.
“I would remind people of what some friends of Ghana have been saying. This act will be a disaster for Ghana economically [if passed into law]. Because Western companies are not going to come and invest in a country that is pummeling minority rights.
“The extreme religious rights have failed to achieve this religious agenda in the United States. And so now they are coming to Africa to try and push the agenda. People who complain about neo-colonialism? Shouldn’t they be asking questions about this? he asked.
On March 18, the Presidency sent a letter to Parliament, pausing the progress of the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill for approval due to legal concerns. Speaker ofParliament Alban Bagbin rebuked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for this move.

Manchester United is reportedly eyeing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite for a potential summer transfer, as per the Daily Telegraph.
With a new co-owner in place, United sees strengthening the central defense as a priority in the upcoming transfer window.
This decision comes amid uncertainties surrounding Raphaël Varane’s contract situation and defensive injuries under manager Erik ten Hag’s tenure.
Branthwaite, highly rated by United, could offer a solution to their defensive woes.
Despite not finalizing their summer plans yet, United is likely to consider Branthwaite’s acquisition at the end of the season, contingent upon their UEFA Champions League qualification status.
Additionally, United aims to bolster their squad with a striker, right-back options, and a midfielder in case ofCasemiro’s departure post-season.
Man City are hopeful that Kevin De Bruyne will be ready for their important Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday, according to sources familiar with the situation.
De Bruyne sat out the FA Cup quarterfinal victory over Newcastle United due to a groin injury, which also sidelined him for Belgium’s recent friendlies against Republic of Ireland and England.
However, there’s increasing optimism that the midfielder could be back in contention for the Arsenal game, as he successfully completed a training session with the Under-23s on Tuesday.
Jack Grealish, who was absent from the England squad due to ongoing recovery from a muscle injury, has also been training at the City Football Academy this week.
Medical staff will continue to monitor De Bruyne’s condition, but he is expected to participate in first-team training when it resumes on Thursday. Most of City’s international players are set to return to the club by Friday to prepare for the match against Arsenal.
De Bruyne’s potential return is a welcome development for manager Pep Guardiola, who is concerned about the fitness of Kyle Walker and John Stones.
Walker suffered a hamstring injury during England’s recent defeat to Brazil, while Stones was substituted early in the match against Belgium due to an adductor problem. Although Walker’s injury is not believed to be severe, he faces a race against time to prove his fitness before facing Arsenal.
Meanwhile, sources have informed ESPN that City are displeased with the scheduling of their FA Cup semifinal against Chelsea.
Initially, City anticipated the game to be played on Sunday, April 21, four days after their Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Real Madrid.
However, they have since been informed that the fixture will be held at Wembley on the Saturday, leaving Guardiola and his squad with only three days to recover from the clash with Real Madrid.
Neither Manchester United nor Coventry, the teams in the other semifinal, are involved in European competitions and had initially expected to play on Saturday.
Additionally, City are scheduled to face Brighton at the Amex on April 25 before traveling to Nottingham Forest three days later on April 28.
Nottingham Forest manager Steven Reid has been penalized by the Football Association for verbally abusing referee Paul Tierney following their defeat to Liverpool.
Reid has been handed a two-match ban and fined £5,000 for his inappropriate conduct towards Tierney, which occurred after Darwin Nunez scored the winning goal deep into stoppage time at City Ground on March 2nd.
Additionally, Nottingham Forest has been fined £75,000 for failing to control their players and staff from behaving improperly after the final whistle.
The incident arose from a controversial decision by Tierney to award possession back to Liverpool via a drop-ball, despite Nottingham Forest having possession before play was halted due to a head injury to Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.
Mark Clattenburg, a former Premier League referee and currently working as Forest’s referee analyst, criticised the decision and told BBC Radio 5: “If the referee stops the game, he has to give the ball back to the team in possession. That was Forest.”
Tierney mentioned about the incident in his match report and wrote: “Following the final whistle I was surrounded by members of Nottingham Forest’s substitutes and backroom staff on the field of play. One of those who approached me was Steven Reid, who was not listed on the teamsheet.
He asked me about a decision and I said to him that I would speak to him inside and not outside on the field of play. He then continued to question me and I repeated that I would speak to him inside. He then said, ‘It’s the same every week, you [expletive]’.”
After referee Tierney showed Reid a red card for his remarks, Reid admitted to using abusive language initially but denied using it further after being sent off.
However, Tierney and the assistant referees reported Reid’s continued swearing and confrontational behavior as they exited the field, leading to the confirmation of the charges against him.
Forest acknowledged that owner Evangelos Marinakis approached Tierney after the match but dismissed reports of any altercation requiring intervention.
This is not the first time Forest has faced penalties for misconduct towards match officials. Over the past 18 months, the club has been involved in similar incidents on three previous occasions, raising concerns about their disciplinary behavior. In conclusion, the regulatory commission warned Forest that future breaches of the rulesmay result in more severe consequences.
