Frank Lampard appointed head coach of Coventry

English Championship club Coventry has named former Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard head coach of Championship club Coventry City in a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Lampard 46), takes over from Mark Robins with the team sitting 17th in the championship, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Robins was sacked on November 7, 2024, after seven years as manager. This is the first managerial appointment by club owner Doug King since taking control in January 2023.

Mark Robins joined Coventry City in 2017 and was sacked primarily due to a poor run of form, with Coventry City sitting 17th in the Championship table after a 2-1 home defeat to Derby County.

Lampard’s new role with Coventry marks his fifth managerial position.

His previous experience includes leading Derby County, Everton, and two separate spells managing Chelsea.

Lampard has mostly worked in the media since his poor spell as interim Chelsea manager in May 2023.

His first game in charge of Coventry City will be a home fixture against Cardiff City on Saturday.

“I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as head coach,” said Coventry owner King.

“Frank cut his teeth in the championship and knows what is needed in this league to be successful.

“His experiences thereafter at Chelsea and Everton will ensure he brings to our talented squad a clear understanding of exactly what is needed to succeed at the very top level that we as a club are striving to reach.”

Frank Lampard comes from a footballing family. His father, Frank Lampard Sr., was a West Ham United legend and played as a left-back for England twice. Lampard is also the nephew of Harry Redknapp, another West Ham icon and former manager.

Lampard’s professional journey began in October 1995 when he made his Football League debut on loan at Swansea City. A few months later, in January 1996, he played his first senior match for West Ham United as a 17-year-old in a game against Coventry City.

His career skyrocketed after he transferred to Chelsea in July 2001 for £11 million. At Chelsea, Lampard became a club legend, making 649 of his total 904 career appearances. Over 13 years at Stamford Bridge, he won 11 major trophies and became Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer with 211 goals.

Toy gun trend: Guns aren’t supposed to be played with; they are dangerous – Ras Kuuku warns

Ghanaian dancehall musician Ras Kuuku has waded into the recent ongoing social media ‘toy gun challenge’ in Kumasi, labelling it as ‘dangerous.’

The ‘toy gun trend’ began in the Ashanti Region, Kumasi, among young people who gathered in public to stage playful shootouts with water guns and plastic toy guns in late October.

It later gained popularity on social media; some celebrities like Medikal and Kofi Mole, including Dancegod Llyod, joined the challenge.

However, reggae and dancehall artist Ras Kuuku has condemned the trend, citing the danger associated with playing with guns, whether real or fake.

Speaking in an interview on 3FM on November 26, 2024, he stated that this new trend would be exploited by some unscrupulous individuals to stage crimes.

He urged those involved to abandon the trend.

“You see that gun challenge going on? I want people to know they shouldn’t play with it, and nobody should support that. Anything that involves guns must be treated with great caution. That’s why our forefathers said, ‘The inside of a gun is dark.’” Ras Kuuku stated.

Given the dangers associated with guns, the Ghana Police Service, in a swift response, has arrested about 26 individuals in connection with toy gun challenges.

Reports indicate that several individuals were apprehended for displaying and carelessly firing toy guns in public, creating fear and panic.

The police, after making the arrests, have reassured the public of their dedication to upholding peace and security across the country.

The suspects are currently cooperating with police investigations and are expected to be prosecuted in court soon.

Unstable power supply threatens Ghana’s electric vehicle charging future

Consultant for the Energy Commission, Dr. Godwin Kafui Ayetor, has called on the government to prioritise alternative power sources to support the country’s rollout of electric vehicles (EVs), citing challenges with Ghana’s EV charging infrastructure.

Speaking at a public forum organised by the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) on November 21, 2024, in Kumasi, Dr. Ayetor expressed concern over Ghana’s reliance on the national grid, emphasising its vulnerability to power fluctuations. He advocated for incentives to encourage private sector investment in renewable energy-powered charging stations to reduce dependence on the grid.

“The current reliance on the national grid is unsustainable given the frequent power fluctuations. Incentivising the private sector to invest in renewable energy-powered charging stations will ensure a more reliable and sustainable EV infrastructure,” Dr. Ayetor stated.

Highlighting the limited infrastructure, he noted that Ghana has only seven charging stations, all situated in Accra, leaving other regions without access and hindering the widespread adoption of EVs.

Dr. Ayetor urged regulators and government agencies to develop a comprehensive framework for strategically placing charging stations across the country. He proposed mapping out key locations in cities like Accra to improve coordination and accessibility.

His remarks come in the wake of concerns raised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Energy Commission (EC) about the infrastructure needed to support Ghana’s EV rollout. These concerns were outlined during a joint event where the Market Opportunity Study on Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Ghana was presented.

The report analyzed Ghana’s current EV charging and battery swap infrastructure, identifying significant opportunities and challenges in advancing the EV sector.

Court denies ‘Diddy’ Combs bail for a 3rd time; set to be in jail until May 2025 trial

Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to remain behind bars until his sex-trafficking trial scheduled for May 2025.

This comes after the court rejected yet another attempt to secure bail, marking the third unsuccessful bid by the defence to free the 54-year-old music mogul with the latest ruling handed down on Wednesday.

This comes after the “Last Night” hitmaker was arrested on September 16, 2024, in New York City. He was taken into custody following a federal grand jury indictment.

The charges against him include racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution. The indictment also includes allegations of kidnapping, forced labour, and bribery.

Diddy has denied all accusations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The defence had previously presented a $50 million bail package in an effort to convince the court. The proposal included strict conditions such as house arrest with GPS tracking at a New York City residence, a restricted list of approved visitors—excluding women who are not family members—and round-the-clock monitoring by a private security team.

However, federal prosecutors rejected the plan over concerns of altering witnesses, arguing that the release of Combs would be a threat to others even while incarcerated.

After careful consideration, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian ultimately sided with the prosecution. The judge had initially planned to issue his ruling during a hearing on November 22 but took additional time to deliberate before making his decision.

“The Court finds that the government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no condition or combination of conditions will reasonably assure the safety of the community,” Subramanian wrote, denying Combs’s motion for bail.

It’s reported that ‘Diddy’ Combs’ had sent handwritten jailhouse notes; they were the subject of a heated hearing last week. Prosecutors gained access to them after an Oct. 28 sweep of the Metropolitan Detention Centre (MDC) in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The government claimed it showed that the entrepreneur was trying to pay off witnesses from jail. Combs’s defence team argued that the notes viewed were “attorney-client privileged material”; they included the defence’s legal strategy.

Subramanian said at the Nov. 19 hearing that he’d review whether the notes contained privileged information, which could take weeks, but that he would not take the notes into consideration when ruling on the issue of bail.

However, he had some questions for the defence at the Nov. 22 hearing about if the defence retroactively wrote “legal” on the notes in question.

The defence team said it was trying to get to the bottom of when “legal” was written on some of the notes, according to the Inner City Press.

Otto Addo remains Black Stars’ coach – GFA decide

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has allegedly decided the fate of the head coach of the Black Stars despite his oversight of the team’s lacklustre performances.

Earlier reports suggested that, despite calls for the coach’s dismissal, about ten of the twelve members of the executive committee voted against his sack, with only two demanding the termination of his contract.

After a meeting to decide on his future with the national team, it is reported that the GFA has decided to maintain the former Dortmund manager.

Ghanasoccernet.com reports that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is keen on retaining Otto Addo as head coach for the Black Stars during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, set to continue in March 2024.

The Black Stars’ last game in the 2025 AFCON qualification campaign was against Niger on November 19, 2024. Unfortunately, Ghana lost the match 1-2, which confirmed their disqualification from the tournament. This loss, combined with previous results, meant that Ghana finished bottom of their group with no wins in six matches.

It marks the first time in 20 years the Black Stars have not qualified for the AFCON.

Despite widespread public backlash against his leadership, the GFA’s Executive Council remains firmly supportive, expressing confidence in Addo’s ability to transform the team’s performance and deliver positive results.

High-profile personalities in Ghana and beyond expressed their disappointment and called for Otto Addo’s dismissal.

National Election Security Taskforce has introduced a financial reward system to encourage the public to report potential security threats ahead of the upcoming elections.

With this, members of the public can share critical information with the police or other security agencies and receive rewards ranging from GH¢1,000 to GH¢20,000.

Reports can be made via the toll-free hotline, 0800-311-311.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) and head of the National Election Security Taskforce, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, announced the programme during a meeting with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) on Wednesday, November 27.

In this initiative, the IGP mentioned election security would be a collaborative work of both the police and the general public.

“We are introducing the informant reward system, and the figure involved is between GH¢1,000 and GH¢20,000. You bring the information, we operationalise it, and if the results are good, we tell you how much you will be given, and you tell us the means through which you will want it, and we send it to you.

Speaking at the National Election Security Taskforce’s meeting with the Electoral Commission on November 26, 2024, Dampare assured the public that the police are determined to maintain the country’s stability and security throughout the electoral process.

“We want to assure you that we are more than ready, as a security agency, to support the excellent work you are doing. We will do whatever it takes to ensure that this country continues to be at peace with itself,” he stated.

The IGP further warned that any attempts by individuals to cause chaos or disrupt the peace would be met with severe consequences.

He emphasised that the police are fully prepared to deliver effective and reliable security during the elections.

“In our readiness, we want to also say that we will protect every Ghanaian and stakeholder in this election and, more importantly, protect the EC staff and management as they go about their constitutional duty of ensuring that the election is executed to the benefit of Ghanaians,” he added.

Regarding the security of the EC, Dampare highlighted the police measures implemented to safeguard the Electoral Commission and its staff, allowing them to perform their duties without fear of intimidation.

“We are here to assure you that we are here for you and your team in protecting you and ensuring that you have the peace of mind to do your job,” he stated.

Don’t forget I became president through NPP – Kuffour after backlash for endorsing Bawumia

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has faced significant criticism for endorsing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the “man of the moment” for the December 2024 elections.

During a meeting with journalists on November 12, 2024, the former president praised Dr. Bawumia’s economic expertise and leadership abilities, urging Ghanaians to support him in the upcoming elections.

However, his endorsement did not sit well with some individuals, including Alan Kyerematen, a former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and founder of the “Butterfly Movement.” Kyerematen remarked that the former president’s public backing of Dr. Bawumia tarnishes his political legacy. Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) also weighed in, with some openly insulting Mr. Kufuor for his stance.

In response to these criticisms, former President Kufuor has dismissed calls to remain silent on the 2024 general elections.

Speaking to supporters at the Ofori Panin Palace on November 27, during a campaign event with NPP running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh in the Abuakwa South constituency, Mr. Kufuor reaffirmed his endorsement of Dr. Bawumia, standing firmly by his decision.

He emphasised that while he is recognised as a statesman, Ghanaians should remember that he rose to the presidency on the ticket of the NPP.

“I am facing criticism for voicing my opinions on national matters due to my position as a statesman. Experience and wisdom are often associated with age.

“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is my political affiliation, and it was through this party that I attained the presidency. Additionally, my child, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been elected through the party.

He went on to praise Dr Bawumia, citing that he performed excellently during his administration while “he was a member of the Bank of Ghana team and demonstrated remarkable performance during a challenging period when Ghana was in financial distress. Their efforts were instrumental in revitalising the economy at that time.”

Sonnie Badu reveals how Perez Musik was ‘hurt’ over gospel musicians absence from his wedding

Ghanaian-UK-based preacher and gospel musician Sonnie Badu has shared how disappointed his colleague, Perez Musik, felt when fellow gospel artists failed to attend his wedding.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on November 26, 2024, Sonnie Badu revealed that the only gospel artist present, apart from himself, was Siisi Beidu.

The turnout was so poor that Perez Musik was both surprised and delighted to see Sonnie Badu. He even offered him a seat right next to him in appreciation of his presence.

“I value relationships, and I cherish humanity. When Perez invited me to his wedding, I told him I would come, but he thought I was joking. It was my first time going to Krokobite, and the road was quite challenging, but I made the effort because I wanted to show love.”

He continued, “When I arrived, the only gospel artiste there was Siisi Beidu. I was glad I came, but Perez was heartbroken. It would have been really sad if I hadn’t shown up. He was so overwhelmed that he asked me to sit beside him, but I felt shy.”

Ghanaian gospel artist Perez Musik married his wife, Abigail, on November 23, 2024, after overcoming a challenging breakup with his former spouse, Doreen.

Taking to Instagram, Perez expressed his gratitude to God and shared his excitement about starting this new chapter of his life.

“Blessed be the Lord who reigns forevermore! #restored,” he wrote.

2024 Polls: A vote for Bawumia is a vote for more suffering – KSM warns

Popular Ghanaian media personality Kwaku Sintim-Misa, commonly referred to as KSM, has issued a caution to Ghanaians ahead of the 2024 general elections on December 7.

A known critic of the current NPP government and its performance, KSM warned citizens against voting for Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to him, electing Dr. Bawumia as President in the upcoming elections would amount to endorsing continued hardship, corruption, and impunity.

“If this election is free, fair, and transparent, and Ghanaians choose Bawumia as their man, I promise you, you will see more. You will see more arrogance, more impunity, and more corruption, which have plagued us over the past eight years,” KSM warned.

He added that those who support such an outcome would have to accept the consequences without protest.

“And your mouths will be sealed, so you won’t be able to say anything,” he added.

KSM passionately called for a change, urging Ghanaians to “rescue” the country from its current state.

“The country has been muddied. The country has been deprived. The country needs to be rescued,” he lamented.

My bed felt like fire – Mcbrown shares first brokenheart experience

Renowned actress and television show host Nana Ama McBrown has shared a personal experience of nearly losing her mind after experiencing her first heartbreak in her early twenties.

Speaking during the Onua Showtime program on November 25, 2024—a segment where she shares advice and motivational messages with her audience—McBrown advised against suicide and giving up on life due to heartbreak.

She recounted how she had envisioned building a family with her then-boyfriend, who was both good-looking and wealthy, only to face the pain of heartbreak when their relationship ended.

Reflecting on the ordeal, she admitted how close she came to losing control of her emotions during that difficult time.

“When I started dating, I was with a handsome young man, and I thought we were going to settle down and have a family together. I had imagined living with him in his beautiful house, driving his car; everything seemed perfect. Even though his mother liked me, I noticed some things that made me wonder if we were truly meant to be. My grandmother even advised me not to date him, but I didn’t listen

“When he broke up with me, my bed became like fire; it felt like I was sleeping in hellfire. When I got out of bed, I felt I was being pursued with a knife, and when I tried to run, I ran into the nose of the devil himself.

McBrown went on to explain how devastating the breakup was for her, saying, “When he broke my heart, it felt like my life was over. It was like I was on fire, and everything came crashing down. I was in a very dark place.”

Citing the intensity of the situation, she recalled stepping out of the house in her pyjamas after her grandmother sent her on an errand.

One day, my grandmother asked me to run an errand for her at Kwadaso Market. Can you imagine? I left the house in my pyjamas and didn’t even notice. I was so lost in my emotions; I nearly went mad.”

She shared that the experience marked a significant shift in her life and highlighted the need for perseverance among young people dealing with similar emotional challenges.

“If I had taken my life, I wouldn’t be standing here today telling you my story. So, to my young ones out there, I urge you not to make any drastic decisions if you go through something like this. I’m sharing my experience so you can learn from it.Please don’t harm yourselves,” she stated.

The actress, however, did not disclose who the said lover was.

Who saved Kumawood saga: Dr Likee says he feels Bill Asamoah hates him

The CEO of Miracle Films, Mr. Samuel Nyamekye, recently commended actors like Mercy Asiedu, LilWin, Dr. Likee, Matilda Asare, and Vivian Jill Lawrence for revitalising the Kumawood industry through their consistent production of movies and series on platforms such as YouTube and traditional media.

However, when actor Bill Asamoah was asked during an interview with Poleeno Multimedia about claims that Dr. Likee single-handedly “saved” Kumawood with his highly popular YouTube series, he firmly disagreed with the notion.

“That’s an unfortunate statement. As much as I applaud my younger brother for what he’s doing, we should avoid rushing to overpraise people. When you do that, what message does it send to others in the industry?”

He continued, “Dr. Likee is doing well, but is he the only one working? He has a whole team behind him. So, when people say Dr. Likee saved Kumawood, how do we interpret that? We were working before he entered the industry. Just because someone becomes a favourite of the masses doesn’t mean they are the only one holding everything together.”

But after remaining silent on these comments for some time, Dr. Likee finally addressed it in an interview with Angel FM.

“Look, I am more concerned about the streets. The Kumawood industry isn’t my sole focus. I’m just doing my own thing. I’m not in any competition for the ‘King of Kumawood’ title. The only time I’ll truly be bothered is when the streets turn their back on me. My goal is to provide opportunities for people from the streets to rise and become stars, that’s all.” he stated.

He added, “Look at people like B. Kusi, who’s passed away. The late OD, who was known for his Akan drama, was an excellent actor to the point that they even called him ‘Super OD.’ Osofo Dadzie is also gone. These exceptional actors have left us.”

In a subsequent discussion with Kessben FM, Dr. Likee responded to Bill Asamoah’s remarks, firmly standing by his perspective and offering his own thoughts on the matter.

“People are free to express their opinions, but there’s a way you can say these things that clearly shows the underlying hate you have for me. Let’s move away from unnecessary hate. It’s not my doing that I’ve become who I am today. I don’t climb to the top alone; I always bring others along with me.”

If you can’t afford rent in Accra, go back to your village – Ayigbe Edem tells fan

A circulating video captures Ghanaian rapper Edem expressing frustration with fans repeatedly seeking financial assistance from him online.

During a live interaction on social media, one follower requested support for rent, prompting Edem to respond passionately. He advised those grappling with Accra’s high living costs to consider relocating to their hometowns, where housing and food are often more accessible and less expensive.

“I beg you. If you don’t have money to rent in Accra, go back to your village. There is a free house with food over there. Don’t come and put your rent in somebody’s pocket,” Edem advised.

Addressing a fan who had created a portrait of him and expected payment, Edem voiced his annoyance, explaining that he never asked for such artwork and has no use for it.

“Someone else said, ‘I drew you, but you didn’t give me money.’ Did I ask you to draw me? Do you know the number of people that draw me every day? If you draw me because you appreciate me, do that. I don’t even use the drawings for anything. You people will draw people. And by force, you want to collect money from them,” he remarked.

Edem isn’t the only creative who has clapped back at pressure from fans for financial favours; other celebrities, including actor and politician John Dumelo, have also resisted demands from netizens.

Ministry of Youth and Sports does not owe Otto Addo any salary- Sports Minister’s aid

Jamaludeen A. Abdullah, the personal assistant to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has addressed recent rumours regarding the salary of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, stating that the coach has been consistently paid on time.

In an interview with GhanaWeb Sports, Abdullah emphasised that there are no outstanding payments and that Addo receives his salary regularly each month.

He urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that Otto Addo and his technical staff are behind on salary payments, clarifying that such claims are unfounded.

“As far as I’m concerned, the Ministry of Youth and Sports does not owe Otto Addo any salary.

His salaries have been paid, and we don’t have any official complaints from him or the FA to the effect that he has not been paid,” Jamal clarified.

This follows a claim made by Kessben FM, which suggested that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo and his entire technical team have not been paid for the past three months.

The station also reported that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is in discussions with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to clear the outstanding salaries and avoid further controversies.

Meanwhile, Otto Addo’s future as head coach is now in doubt after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The team ended the qualifiers with three draws and three losses, without a single win across six matches.

The GFA Executive Council has scheduled a meeting with Addo on November 27, 2024, to review his performance during the AFCON qualifiers and decide on his future.

Dissolve National Cathedral Secretariat – Ablakwa to govt

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called for the National Cathedral Secretariat to be immediately dissolved.

His demand follows a recent report released by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), which has recommended a forensic audit into the National Cathedral project. The investigation was initiated after Mr. Ablakwa petitioned CHRAJ, raising concerns over alleged corruption and violations of procurement laws associated with the project.

The CHRAJ report, dated November 25, 2024, uncovered several lapses in the management of the project and advised the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) to terminate the contract related to the construction. Mr. Ablakwa’s call aligns with these findings, which highlight the need for greater transparency and accountability.

“The Board of the Public Procurement Authority should intervene to cancel the contract for the construction of the National Cathedral between the National Cathedral and Ribade Company as it has the power to do so under the Procurement Act,” said the report.

In reacting to the recommendations, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who petitioned CHRAJ, said there should be an immediate dissolution of the Secretariat.

“A couple of months ago, when I made the similar demand, a member of the Board of Trustees, Rev. Joyce Aryeh said that it was a demand that didn’t make sense to them and that they will continue to operate and draw salaries,” he told a press conference in Kumasi.

He questioned the continuous receipt of salaries for the 31 months that the project has been abandoned.

“One of the first things we want to see is the immediate dissolution of the Secretariat of the National Cathedral,” said the MP.

The CHRAJ has recommended that the PPA must move in quickly to cancel contact and also ensure the project is halted and the illegalities do not continue.

But Mr. Ablakwa expects a refund from those people who have caused financial loss to the state.

“Organise labour has been agitating about their condition of service; people who have worked are not being paid; an economy where people have been compelled to take financial haircuts; how does it make sense for this project, which has been declared illegal, for persons to claim that they are officials of the National Cathedral Secretariat and therefore continue to take salaries?

The North Tongu MP said “by the riskless decision of President Akufo-Addo, so many demolitions have been occasioned, namely the Judicial Training Institute, Judge Bungalows, Scholarship Secretariat, the Passport Office, bungalows belonging to CHRAJ, the Malian ambassador’s residence, and the Water Stone Apartment complex.”.

He stated that the CHRAJ report affirmed there was no legal justification for President Akufo-Addo and his Vice to authorize the demolitions, resulting in what he described as unnecessary and wasteful expenditure for the country.

The church taught me everything I know in music – Kuami Eugene

Kuami Eugene has appreciated the church for contributing to his artistry as a musician.

According to the highlife musician, he nurtured his music talent by learning how to play musical instruments while growing up in church.

“The church made me; I learnt everything I know from the church. When I was young, I knew I would become a very great musician. So I told myself I should prepare so well before I got to the top. So I prepared a lot so I can play every musical instrument that I lay my hands on. No one taught me how to play the piano; I just started playing because I had been around it for a long time,” he told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z.

Kuami Eugene revealed his versatility as a musician, sharing that he is skilled in playing multiple instruments, including the piano, trumpet, drums, and guitar. To enhance his stage presence, he even mastered the art of performing backflips, adding a dynamic touch to his performances.

The ‘Angela’ hitmaker also discussed his growth as a music producer, which he attributes to enrolling in a music production course. This has allowed him to refine his craft and contribute more to the creative process.

Reflecting on his beginnings, Kuami shared that his music journey started in gospel through the Eugene Marfo Ministries. Before rising to fame after participating in the MTN Hitmaker contest, he had already produced a few gospel songs.

Although he doesn’t label himself as a gospel artiste, Kuami maintains strong ties to the church and collaborates closely with gospel musicians. He has written songs for notable artistes such as Joyce Blessing and Empress Gifty and even collaborated with Obaapa Christy on a project.

Kuami Eugene often performs gospel songs at churches and church-related events, showcasing his continued connection to his gospel roots despite his broader career in the mainstream music industry.

KOD announces album release before his 50th birthday

Ghanaian media personality Kofi Okyere-Darko, also known as KOD, has revealed plans to release a music album before reaching the age of 50.

In a conversation with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Changes show, KOD expressed his long-standing passion for music and shared how he has played a role in discovering and nurturing emerging talents who are now making waves in the industry.

“I bring the music out of other people. It’s in my head, but they can’t come out of me. So, I bring it out of other people, and I’ve had a great time over the years in the music space; it’s one of the greatest times for me, and we’re looking at getting back there. I got a call from Nana Kwame asking that we do one last album together.”

However, he has not been able to create his own music because he claims his voice is not the best for singing

Amidst his situation, music producer Kwame Yeboah requested that KOD produce an album before turning 50, which they are currently working on.

“Kwame Yeboah actually told me that I have till age 50 to record my album; otherwise, I’m done, and he’s the one producing the album. I’m 46 now, so I have 4 years to go.”

Asked if he will be able to fulfil it, he said, “Definitely,” adding that “it’s going to be an eclectic album.”

KOD revealed that his forthcoming album will showcase the rich diversity of Ghanaian music, blending styles like highlife and gospel. He highlighted his collaborative process, working with artists from various musical backgrounds—a method that has resulted in numerous award nominations for those involved.

He encouraged aspiring musicians to embrace versatility, advising them to experiment with different genres to broaden their appeal and achieve significant milestones in their careers.

“…we always recorded different genres. We didn’t box ourselves into maybe highlife, and I think for every musician, if you’re truly talented and you can really go places like a Samini, King Promise, or Sarkodie, you don’t stay in one spot; you explore different arenas, and they keep you going,” he noted on Joy Prime.

I’m staying quiet for now, but not for long – Shatta Wale on Sally Mann attacks

Shatta Wale has addressed the ongoing criticism and disrespect directed at him by media personality Sally Mann, who has consistently been outspoken against him.

Sally Mann, known for her blunt remarks, has frequently labelled the dancehall artist a “failed musician” and used various media platforms to criticise his career. She has repeatedly claimed that Shatta Wale’s musical influence has waned, often expressing support for his rival, Stonebwoy.

In one instance, Sally went as far as daring Shatta Wale to a physical fight, asserting that he wouldn’t stand a chance against her.

Recently, she alleged that there is a deliberate effort to elevate Stonebwoy while undermining Shatta Wale’s career, accusing the dancehall star of disregarding the importance of traditional media.

But in response to all these, Shatta Wale, during an interview on Angel FM, explained that he has refrained from taking action against Sally Mann’s constant attacks because any response would likely see him labelled as the villain.

“Look at how Sally Mann has been attacking and disrespecting me. If I strike back, people will say I don’t respect. I’m staying quiet for now, but I won’t let these attacks on my character go unchallenged anymore. I’m doing my own thing in my corner. Nobody should come and disturb me. If you worry me, I won’t respect the law because the law isn’t working in Ghana,” he fumed.

Shatta Wale further stated that he hasn’t taken legal action against anyone, particularly critics like Sally Mann, yet because he believes he won’t gain anything financially substantial from it.

“Look at how I’m disrespected all over radio stations in Ghana. I haven’t sued anyone because I know I won’t get a dime from them. They don’t have money,” he added.

He poisoned my drinks in my own house – Nana Yeboah on betrayal by a close friend

Ghanaian actor Nana Yeboah has recounted a harrowing experience where he narrowly escaped death after being betrayed by a trusted friend.

The popular Kumawood star revealed that a close friend, who was a regular visitor to his home, attempted to poison him by tampering with a fresh box of juice.

According to Nana Yeboah, he was moments away from drinking the tainted beverage but was saved by what he described as divine intervention. He expressed deep gratitude to God, stating that without this timely rescue, he would not be alive to tell the story.

In an interview with Emelia Brobbey, Yeboah recounted the terrifying experience: “There was this one time my friend came to visit me at my house, and I offered him some drinks. I had Malt and Fru Telli juice available. He went into one of my rooms, where I kept drinks stacked in a storage area.

He picked the first, second, and third drinks, and then opened one of them and added some substance to it. At first, I didn’t notice anything unusual. I even asked if he wanted more, but he declined, saying he was fine and later left.”

He continued, “I insisted on giving him more, especially since these are drinks I sell, and I wanted to give out those that were close to their expiry date. So, I took one of the drinks, poured it into a glass, and immediately noticed it was foamy. The box was even swelling. That’s when I realised something was wrong and threw it away.”

Yeboah, known for his no-nonsense attitude, said that once he realised the drink had been poisoned, he immediately called his friend to confront him.

He explained that his friend was the only person who regularly visited him, as his partner and children live in Obuasi.

“I thought long and hard about who would want to poison me, and the only person who came to mind was my friend because he’s the only one who comes to my house. Nobody else visits me. So, I called him and asked if he was sent to kill me. I told him to tell whoever sent him that their plans had failed. He was silent on the phone and couldn’t say a word.”

A week later, Nana Yeboah said the friend called to beg for forgiveness.

“He came back a week later, asking for forgiveness. I told him there was nothing to forgive because when I first confronted him, he didn’t tell me the truth. Since then, he hasn’t contacted me again.”

Reflecting on the trauma of the incident, Yeboah admitted that the experience had left him deeply shaken.

“This whole thing has really frightened me. I’m now extremely scared of people,” he added.

Salah, who played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s recent 3-2 comeback victory against Southampton on Sunday, November 24, 2024, admitted his growing uncertainty over his place at Anfield.

The Egyptian star noted that the absence of a new proposal from the club signals an impending departure.

Speaking after the match, Salah expressed his frustration, stating, “I’m probably more out than in. We’re nearing December, and I haven’t received any offers to extend my stay at the club… I think that says a lot.”

His remarks were reported by football journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Salah did not hold back his disappointment, sharing his belief that the club’s hesitance to secure his future reflects their unwillingness to continue the partnership.

“Disappointed? Yes, I’m disappointed. Of course, I’m disappointed with the situation. I have not seen any sort of proposal from Liverpool so far.”

Salah’s remarks have sparked concern among fans, many of whom feel he has earned a contract extension given his impressive recent performances.

The Egyptian forward currently leads Liverpool’s scoring charts this season, with 12 goals in 18 matches, along with 10 assists to his name.

His current contract runs until the end of the 2024/2025 season, marking the conclusion of what will be a seven-year tenure with the Reds.

  • Limited citizen involvement in public matters a threat to our democracy – Prof. Kwesi Aning

Limited citizen involvement in public matters a threat to our democracy – Prof. Kwesi Aning

Renowned expert in African security and international politics, Professor Emmanuel Kwesi Aning delivered a thought-provoking address during the “Beyond Electrocracy” webinar hosted by the Centre for Alternative Politics and Security West Africa.

In his speech, he urged for deep reflection on the political and security dynamics shaping the region.

Speaking on the theme “Beyond Ghana’s 2024 Elections: Business as Usual or a New Pathway Towards People-Centred Politics?” Prof. Kwesi Aning emphasised the urgent need for active political participation to sustain Ghana’s democracy.

“Limited popular participation, as we see in Ghana, leads to a dangerous situation that undermines resilience, institutions, and sustainability,” he said, critiquing the growing apathy and exclusivity in the nation’s political processes.

The Centre for Alternative Politics and Security, a newly established think tank focused on reshaping politics in Ghana and across West Africa, officially launched through a Zoom webinar. Prof. Kwesi Aning commended the initiative, highlighting its timely relevance and potential to address current political challenges.

“The very name captures the essence of what this centre seeks to do: we need a new type of politics necessary for Ghana and West Africa.”

Prof. Kwesi Aning underscored the role of political participation as the cornerstone of democratic governance.

“Democracies depend on the active and informed involvement of citizen participation across the spectrum of political processes,” he said, adding that participation fosters credibility, engagement, and a sense of ownership among citizens.

However, he lamented the current state of citizen involvement, where political engagement often revolves around transactional relationships.

“It is the voluntarism aspect that we seem to have lost in Ghana because everything now has a price,” he stated, criticising the dominance of elitist groups who, under the guise of democracy, prioritise personal interests over the collective good.

Prof. Kwesi Aning called for a paradigm shift, urging Ghanaians to reflect on the broader implications of their democracy.

“We’ve reached a divergent point where we need to consider whether this is the democracy that will take us to the next stage of our development,” he said.

The discussion also highlighted the need for sustained political engagement beyond election cycles. “Citizens must play this role over the four-year period,” Prof. Kweisi Aning asserted, emphasising that participation should extend beyond voting to include active involvement in decision-making processes and advocacy for inclusive governance.

He concluded his presentation with a call for action indicating that Ghana must move beyond electoral formalities to create a participatory democracy that empowers its citizens and redefines the essence of governance.

  • NHIA to launch free dialysis services starting December 1

NHIA to launch free dialysis services starting December 1

National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) will introduce free dialysis services for individuals with renal conditions beginning December 1, 2024.

Dr. Da Costa Aboagye, CEO of the NHIA, announced this development during an interview with Joy News on November 25, 2024.

According to him, the program’s annual expenditure is projected to range from GH₵20 million to GH₵57 million, depending on the number of patients who require treatment.

“And we can now confirm that the NHIS will need a minimum of between GH₵20 million and GH₵57 million annually for this dialysis programme. Where will we get the finds from? Initially, I told you that Parliament had approved some funds for us, and we will leverage our core corporate social responsibility,” he stated.

Dr. Da Costa Aboagye further indicated that the NHIA had already launched a pilot program covering children under 18 and adults above 60.

According to him, it revealed that the number of patients needing dialysis was much lower than initially estimated.

“The numbers given to us by the association of people on dialysis were a deviation from the actual.

The number given to us was almost 700, but the actual number we got in the pilot was around 400.

“With this, we now started our modelling of the pilot to see if, indeed, the National Health Authority can take up the cost of the dialysis,” he added.

The Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA also stated that they based their projections on two research papers estimating the prevalence of end-stage kidney disease at between 24 and 39 cases per million people in the country.

“So, we look at certain indicators. The first thing was to look at the prevalence of people suffering from kidney disease in the country or end-stage kidney disease.

We got two research papers; one put it at 24 percent per million population and the other at 38.8 per million population; basically 39 percent,” he indicated.

  • CHRAJ calls for a forensic audit of the National Cathedral project

CHRAJ calls for a forensic audit of the National Cathedral project

Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has urged the Auditor-General to launch a forensic audit into the controversial National Cathedral project.

This recommendation stems from CHRAJ’s findings after a complaint filed by North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Approximately a year ago, Mr. Ablakwa raised concerns with CHRAJ, alleging irregularities in the project’s construction and the operations of the National Cathedral Secretariat.

He also questioned the transfer of GH₵2.6 million from the Secretariat to JNS Talent Centre Limited, a company involved in the construction.

In the findings released by CHRAJ on Monday, November 25, after investigating the case for several months, the Commission recommended that the Office of the Auditor-General intervene and conduct a forensic audit to ascertain whether funds allocated for the project were used for their intended purposes.

“Accordingly, the Commission recommends that the Auditor-General should conduct a forensic audit of the construction of the National Cathedral project from its inception to date to ascertain whether monies released for its construction have been properly utilised,” CHRAJ noted.

CHRAJ’s detailed report has recommended the potential prosecution of the board of trustees overseeing the National Cathedral project, citing their role in awarding the contract to Ribade Company Limited.

The report highlighted multiple violations of procurement regulations and warned that the failure of those involved to address the issues could tarnish Ghana’s reputation both locally and internationally.

CHRAJ concluded that Mr. Ablakwa’s claims of breaches in mandatory procurement procedures were valid.

However, the Commission determined that allegations against Reverend Victor Kusi-Boateng, Secretary of the National Cathedral Board of Trustees, involving conflicts of interest and the use of multiple identities, lacked sufficient evidence to be substantiated.

“I want a big break after all this” – Adele after tearful Vegas goodbye

British music icon Adele became emotional on Saturday night as she concluded her 100th and final performance in Las Vegas.

The award-winning singer spent the last two years headlining a weekend residency at Caesars Palace, a venue with a capacity of 4,000. Known for her heartfelt interactions with fans during her performances, Adele admitted that the residency had taken a significant emotional toll on her.

Earlier this year, she announced plans to take an extended break from music after completing her series of shows.

Footage from the event captured Adele tearing up during the final concert as she said goodbye to the Las Vegas stage, marking the end of an unforgettable chapter in her career.

“I’m so sad this residency is over, but I am so glad that it happened; I really, really am,” she said.
“I will miss it terribly. I will miss you terribly. I don’t know when I next want to perform again,” she added.

In July, Adele, best known for hits such as Rolling In The Deep, Hello, Someone Like You and Easy On Me, revealed she had plans to take an extended break from music after her current run of concerts.

“My tank is quite empty at the minute,” the star told German broadcaster ZDF.

“I don’t have any plans for new music at all,” she said.

“I want a big break after all this and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while.

“You know, I don’t even sing at home at all. How strange is that?”

Throughout her residency, Adele delivered countless memorable moments, one of the most touching being her interaction with Celine Dion. During a particular performance, Adele was overcome with emotion upon noticing Dion in the audience. The two iconic artists later shared a warm embrace on stage at the Colosseum Theatre at Caesars Palace—the very venue where Dion began her landmark residency in 2003.

Adele added one of the reasons she wanted to take a break from music is because of a struggle with the limelight.

Adele has frequently spoken of her deep respect and admiration for the legendary Canadian singer, while Dion has equally lauded Adele for her remarkable talent and accomplishments in the music industry.

Moana 2: You paid for it; feel free to sing in the cinema – The Rock

Dwayne Johnson has encouraged fans to feel free to sing along in cinemas, speaking at the UK premiere of Moana 2.

“Especially if you love music, that’s the fun part,” the US actor, also known as The Rock, told BBC News on the red carpet.

Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho are reprising their roles as the voices of Maui and Moana, respectively, in this sequel to the 2016 musical adventure.

The topic of singing in cinemas has recently sparked debate on social media, following the release of Wicked a few days ago.

While some argue that fans should be free to express their enjoyment, others believe singing disrupts the viewing experience for others. Johnson, however, left no doubt about his stance on the matter, supporting a lively cinema atmosphere.
“Sing! You’ve paid your hard earned money for a ticket, and you’ve gone into a musical, and you’re into it. Sing,” he said.

The original Moana introduced audiences to a spirited Polynesian teenager on a daring ocean voyage to save her community.

Now, in Moana 2, Disney brings Moana and Maui back together for a thrilling new journey, set three years after their first adventure. This time, the duo is joined by a group of “unlikely seafarers,” promising a fresh and exciting chapter on the high seas.

London’s Leicester Square turned into a vibrant Polynesian paradise on Sunday evening to celebrate the film’s UK premiere. The area was transformed with palm trees, a sandy beach, and traditional dancers, creating a festive atmosphere despite the chilly weather. Enthusiastic fans braved the cold to catch a glimpse of Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson.

Cravalho, who debuted as Moana at just 16, has since showcased her talent in projects like the 2024 Mean Girls film and live theatre performances.

Despite her growing career, she shared her delight about returning to the beloved role, saying she was “so excited” to bring Moana’s story to life once more.

“I think Moana is at the forefront of a conversation where the word princess and the word hero are now interchangeable,” she told BBC News.

“She is strong, she is brave, and she is not afraid to grab a demigod by the ear. She looks strong as well, at the helm of her ship.”

Kuami Eugene explains why he still works with Lynx Entertainment

Kuami Eugene has shared the reasons behind his extended stay with Lynx Entertainment, even as other artists previously signed to the label have moved on.

Eugene stated that he aims to defy the notion that artists who leave Lynx Entertainment gradually lose relevance, with some ultimately ending their careers.

His remarks come amid rumors of his departure from Lynx Entertainment, a record label he has been with since 2014.

Lynx Entertainment has nurtured several notable talents over the years, including Eazzy (Mildred Ashong), MzVee (Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda), and Zigi (Kweku Sarpong Plahar), among others.

…“thankfully, I’m trying to be the first Lynx artist that will part ways with the label and won’t have everybody saying he is lost. So I’m still under his wings, and he’s teaching me,” he mentioned during an interview.

The musician credited Richie Mensah, the label’s CEO, for guiding him and sharing invaluable industry knowledge accumulated over years of experience.

Kuami Eugene also revealed that Richie has given him his blessing to establish his own record label, where Richie will serve as the “godfather” of its operations.

“I’ve been Richie for eight years, and he has allowed me to start something with him being the godfather of everything.

“I’ve learnt so much; I’ve been in the studio with Richie producing, so I’ve learnt the production skills, and he knows so much about this business. This showbiz business, he’s made so many people,” he said.

I would have become an armed robber if I didn’t get rich – Showboy

Ghanaian socialite Samuel Safo, widely recognized as Showboy, has revealed his intense drive to achieve wealth at any cost.

During an interview on The Delay Show with Deloris Frimpong Manso on November 23, 2024, Showboy admitted that his desire for riches was so strong that he might have turned to armed robbery if he hadn’t found a legitimate path to success.

Reflecting on his past, Showboy shared that he was expelled from Junior High School after being caught stealing from his classmates, a mistake he says shaped his determination to pursue financial success through better means.

“In JHS 2, I was sacked from school in John Teye because I stole from someone. I used to steal things like money, sardines, and others. It all started when I used to steal from my grandmother, but she didn’t punish or talk me out of it. If God hadn’t blessed me with money, I would have become an armed robber because I am passionate about making money by all means.

When I came back from prison to Ghana, the first thing I saw at the airport was young boys driving Range Rover,” he said.

Showboy also shared his struggles with mental health, revealing how his dog, Karishika, has played a vital role in his recovery journey.

“This dog is especially for mental health purposes It is closer to me because I don’t want loneliness. I have been lonely for a long time. I usually hear voices when I am sleeping.

If not for the weed I smoke, which calms me down, sometimes I feel like stabbing someone’s stomach. Human beings irritate me, so the dog plays a huge role in my life,” he added.

A suspected armed robbery attempt at a forex bureau in Abeka Lapaz, Accra, was disrupted on Friday afternoon, drawing swift police intervention. The incident took place at the Raman Forex Bureau, situated near Las Palmas in the heart of the busy Abeka Lapaz area.

Eyewitnesses reported that two armed men entered the bureau and demanded money at gunpoint. Quick-thinking bystanders outside locked the doors, trapping the suspects and employees inside before notifying the police.

Approximately 40 police officers, arriving in two groups, quickly surrounded the building and secured the area, instructing onlookers to move beyond the barricades.

Officers spent about 20 minutes devising a strategy to enter the bureau, located on the ground floor of a two-story building, with additional reinforcements arriving during the process.

Upon entry, however, the police discovered only the forex bureau staff, with no sign of the suspected robbers. It remains unclear how the perpetrators managed to escape the locked building.

CCTV footage from the bureau was collected by the police for further investigation, and a manhunt has been launched to track down the suspects, according to an official statement.

Ghana must compensate Shalimar Abbiusi for ‘unlawful detention’ – ECOWAS court rules

ECOWAS court has ruled that the arrest and detention of Shalimar Abbiusi, the spokesperson for the New Force Movement, were unlawful.

Abbiusi was apprehended in December 2023 for allegedly submitting false documents about being a student at Ghana Christian University College in order to obtain a residence permit.

In October 2024, Abbiusi filed a lawsuit against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney-General at the ECOWAS Court.

In a statement on November 22, 2024, the New Force Movement reported that the court found the arrest and subsequent deportation of Abbiusi violated Article 6 of the Liberty of People.

The court ruled that Ghana had infringed upon Abbiusi’s rights and ordered the government to provide compensation to the plaintiff.

“Despite the State Prosecutor dropping all charges against her, Ms. Abbiusi was unlawfully detained and faced immediate illegal deportation, highlighting a troubling pattern of abuse of power by government officials aimed at suppressing political dissent.

“The court has ruled that the rearrest and illegal deportation of Ms. Abbiusi was in violation of Article 6 of the Liberty of People and has mandated compensation from the Ghanaian government,” the statement noted.

Counsel for Shalimar, Francis Xavier-Sosu, expressed gratitude to the court and said, “He feels vindicated that the ECOWAS court has protected the rights of Shalimar.”

The New Force reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring fairness and justice across African nations and urges the Ghanaian government to “respect human rights and uphold the rule of law, as guaranteed by our Constitution.”

“The actions against Ms. Abbiusi exemplify a broader issue of political persecution that threatens the foundations of democracy in Ghana,” the New Force declared.

They also urged civil society groups, human rights defenders, and the global community to speak out against such abuses and back initiatives aimed at reforming government institutions.

Majority formally requests Speaker for an urgent recall of Parliament to address critical business

Majority caucus in Parliament has formally requested Speaker Alban Bagbin to urgently reconvene the House to address pressing government matters that require immediate action.

In a letter dated Friday, November 22, 2024, and signed by Majority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the caucus suggested Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, 2024, as appropriate dates for the emergency session.

The letter stated, “We respectfully urge you to exercise your constitutional mandate under Standing Orders 57(3) and 58(4) to reconvene Parliament to address the outstanding business of the House.”

Pointing out the urgency, the caucus detailed the critical issues at stake.

These include “the request for tax exemptions for designated beneficiaries under the One District, One Factory Programme; the Ghana Financial Stability Fund; an International Development Association facility of Two Hundred and Fifty Million United States Dollars ($250,000,000); and the consideration of the President’s nominations for appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court.

The Majority Caucus underscored the significance of recalling the House during this crucial period, emphasising, “It would demonstrate that, even as we approach the peak of the electoral season, Parliament remains steadfast in its constitutional duties and committed to advancing the national interest through bipartisan cooperation.”

The petition further highlighted the significant impact of the proposed move, emphasising that reconvening Parliament would convey a strong message of national unity and institutional stability to the people of Ghana, particularly as the election approaches.

This request follows the indefinite adjournment of Parliament on November 7, 2024, when Speaker Bagbin suspended the session due to the lack of a finalised agenda from the Business Committee. As a result, lawmakers were left without pressing matters to discuss, a situation the Majority caucus is keen to resolve.

Forget about coaching Black Stars and focus on Sudan – Kwami Sefa Kayi tells Kwasi Appiah

Seasoned journalist Kwami Sefa Kayi has advised Sudan’s head coach, James Kwasi Appiah, to steer clear of the Black Stars coaching role.

Sefa Kayi highlighted the ongoing issues and controversies within the Black Stars, suggesting it would be unwise for Appiah to take on the position if approached.

Sharing his thoughts on Peace FM, the Kokrokoo Morning Show host praised Appiah’s remarkable achievement of leading Sudan to their first AFCON qualification in 12 years.

However, he cautioned against any potential return to the Ghana national team coaching role, citing the current challenges surrounding the team.

“I am very happy for Kwasi Appiah. There is no way for him to return to coach the Black Stars. What at all is he coming to do? He should focus on his Sudan job. I even wish they make it to the finals for him to also enjoy,” he said in Twi.

Ghana’s disappointing performance in the AFCON qualifiers saw them finish last in Group F, earning only three points from six games with three defeats and three draws.

Angola and Sudan secured spots in the tournament, leaving Ghana and Niger out of contention. This marks Ghana’s first failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations in over two decades.

The poor results have sparked criticism of Otto Addo’s leadership, with some speculating that Kwasi Appiah could be considered to take over the coaching role in the future.

Otto Addo, technical staff have not been paid for three months – Reports

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo and his technical team have reportedly gone three months without receiving their salaries, according to Kessben FM.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is said to be working with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to resolve the issue and avoid further complications.

However, no explanation has been given for the delay, which comes during a challenging period for the national team.

The news has sparked public reaction, particularly in light of the criticism Otto Addo faced following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Ghana finished at the bottom of Group F with only three points, recording three losses and three draws in their six matches.

Angola and Sudan secured qualification from the group, leaving Ghana and Niger out of the tournament. This marks the first time in over two decades that the Black Stars have missed out on the AFCON.

In response to the team’s poor performance, the GFA has summoned Otto Addo to meet with its Executive Council on November 27, 2024.

The meeting will focus on evaluating his report on the qualifiers and discussing his future as head coach of the national team.

  • Crypto Tycoon buys $6.2 million banana artwork

Crypto Tycoon buys $6.2 million banana artwork

Crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun has bought Maurizio Cattelan’s infamous artwork Comedian—a banana duct-taped to a wall—for $6.2 million at a New York auction.

Tron founder said he plans to eat the banana, describing the act as part of a “unique artistic experience.”

“This is not just an artwork; it represents a cultural phenomenon that bridges the worlds of art, memes, and the cryptocurrency community,” Sun wrote in a Nov. 21 X post.

Justin Sun plans to eat the banana in the coming days.

The artwork, sold by Sotheby’s, comes with guidelines for replacing the banana as it decays and a certificate of authenticity.

Initially priced at $800,000, bidding quickly soared, with Sun ultimately paying $5.2 million plus $1 million in fees, far exceeding its $1–$1.5 million presale estimate.

Titled Comedian, the piece features a real banana taped to a wall with duct tape, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and instructions for replacing the fruit and tape.

Artist Maurizio Cattelan describes it as a critique of modern values and the commercialisation of art, emphasising themes of “speed and business” prevalent at art fairs.

This isn’t the first time the banana has been consumed. In 2019, artist David Datuna ate the banana after it sold for $120,000 at Art Basel Miami. Similarly, in 2022, a student in Seoul ate the piece, claiming hunger after skipping breakfast.

Sun’s high-profile purchase coincides with ongoing legal scrutiny. The U.S. Justice Department is reportedly investigating him and Tether, while the SEC filed a lawsuit in March 2023, alleging unregistered securities sales and wash trading of Tron tokens, which Sun denies.

The case claims that the Tron Foundation, BitTorrent Foundation, and Rainberry (formerly BitTorrent) distributed billions of crypto assets and manipulated trade volumes to attract investors. The SEC also accused Sun of inflating BitTorrent’s BTT token price.

In their defence, Tron argued that the SEC’s claims misunderstood the Howey test’s third prong, which addresses profit expectations from others’ efforts, and contested the agency’s additional filings as unwarranted.

Speaking on the Madam Joyce podcast, Falz recalled a particularly awkward first date where his companion asked him to buy takeaway meals for her entire family.

“I wasn’t sure how to feel,” he admitted. “I came here on a date with you, not your family. But then I thought, What if they’re hungry?”

It was unfair to destroy Leslie’s Fantasy Dome – Okraku-Mantey

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has expressed his dissatisfaction at the destruction of the facility as result of the exercise about eight months after the Fantasy Dome was dismantled to make way for construction work at the Trade Fair site.

According to him, he felt there could have been a better way of dismantling the dome without damaging it.

“I do not think that leadership gave instructions that they should do what happened. Because if you meant well, [the structure was a] prefab. Just dismantle the man’s property. But I hear the people destroyed it.

That one, we cannot defend it. It is unfair; it was unfair to him. If it meant well, it should have been done well. Sometimes, you give instructions, and people will go and do things that will make you look bad,” he told Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz.

When asked about the penalties imposed on workers responsible for the dome’s damage during dismantling, Mark Okraku-Mantey explained that the Trade Fair is not managed by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

He revealed that before the dome’s demolition, he had spoken with its owner, Leslie Quaynor, to explore relocation options.

Okraku-Mantey shared that he had considered offering space at the National Museum but, unfortunately, the dome was too large for the location.

About the demolition of the Fantasy Dome

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited demolished the 20,000-seater capacity Fantasy Dome.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Trade Fair, Dr. Agnes Adu, the action was taken after giving the owner, the CEO of Fantasy Entertainment, Leslie Quaynor, about eight notices to vacate the leased premises for a redevelopment project of the place., as stated in their tenancy agreement.

She stated redevelopment of the Trade Fair Centre had been ongoing for some time, and as such, all previous tenants, including owners of Fantasy Dome, had been given notice to move.

“…the Fantasy Dome was the lone person holding out and refusing to move. And after 15 months of consistently giving notices to the owners of the Fantasy Dome, the owners and the developers, we had no choice but to dismantle so that we could continue with the work,” she noted.

    Dismantled Fantasy Dome

Dr. Adu explained that Fantasy Entertainment’s agreement with the Trade Fair allowed the CEO sufficient time to remove his structures.

Recounting the events leading to the demolition, Mr. Quaynor told JoyNews that his lease had expired and plans to relocate the dome were already in progress. He requested an extension, but the Trade Fair management declined.

In an effort to protect his property, Mr. Quaynor sought a court injunction from an Accra High Court to stop the demolition and allow more time for relocation. The injunction was served at the Trade Fair’s premises.

He described the demolition as a major setback, not just for his business but also for the entertainment industry, which relies on venues like the dome to flourish.

Mahama’s return to power would be “very frightening” – Appietus

Renowned Ghanaian music producer Appiah Dankwah, popularly known as Appietus, has expressed his deep concern over the potential return of former President John Mahama.

He explained that his fear of Mahama’s comeback is why he is actively supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid.

“If voted into office again, Mahama will only have four years to serve, and so when he does anything we don’t like, we can’t use losing an election to frighten him,” he posited.

“At the end of the day, I’m afraid that Bawumia will lose for Mahama to be our president again, so I have to campaign for Bawumia to win and continue the good works.

“Mahama has only four years to serve, so it’s very frightening for him to come again because we can’t do anything to him if he comes and doesn’t perform,” he told the host in an interview on Cape Coast’s Property FM.

  • I have it all here ;whatever a manager could wish for – Man City’s Pep after signing 2 year contract extension

I have it all here ;whatever a manager could wish for – Man City’s Pep after signing 2 year contract extension

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has extended his stay at the club by signing a new two-year deal, keeping him in charge until 2027.

The 53-year-old Spaniard, who took the helm in 2016, has led City to an impressive 18 trophies, including six Premier League triumphs.

Guardiola’s previous contract was set to end after the ongoing season, but this renewal solidifies his future at the club. Reflecting on the extension, he expressed gratitude, stating he has “everything a manager could dream of” at City.

“Manchester City means so much to me,” Guardiola told the club’s website.

“This is my ninth season here. We have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club.

“I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that so much.

“Hopefully now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.”

It was reported that Guardiola had agreed a new contract on Wednesday and the club confirmed the news a day later.

    ‘Hunger for success remains insatiable’

During his time in Manchester, Guardiola has helped City become just the second English men’s team to win the Treble – the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same season.

They have also become the first men’s team to win four successive English top-flight titles and to achieve 100 Premier League points in a single campaign.

“Like every City fan, I am delighted that Pep’s journey with Manchester City will continue, allowing his dedication, passion and innovative thinking to continue to shape the landscape of the game,” City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak added.

“His hunger for improvement and success remains insatiable and the direct beneficiaries of that will continue to be our players and coaching staff, the culture of our club, and the English game at large.”

Manchester City currently sit second in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by five points, while grappling with an unprecedented run of four consecutive defeats in all competitions.

For Guardiola, this marks the first time in his managerial career—excluding penalty shootouts—that he has faced such a series of losses.

The announcement of Guardiola’s contract extension comes amid ongoing scrutiny over a Premier League investigation into 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations by the club. While City have denied the allegations, the case’s outcome could result in significant repercussions if wrongdoing is confirmed.

Despite the controversy, Guardiola has remained steadfast in his support for City, urging critics to hold off judgment until the investigation is concluded.

With Jurgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool last summer, Guardiola now stands as the Premier League’s longest-tenured manager.
