Bullgod praises IGP Dampare for “top-notch” security system ahead of the 2024 election

Ghanaian artist manager and regular panellist on UTV’s United Showbiz, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, has praised the IGP for implementing a highly advanced and well-coordinated election security command centre,

Speaking during an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz hosted by Empress Gifty on Saturday, November 30, 2024, the former Shatta Wale managed to express delight and contentment in security measures that have been put in place by the Ghana Police Service under the auspices of the IGP.

He recounts his experience during his visit to the police headquarters located at Ring Road East, Cantonment, Accra, where he witnessed police personnel numbering over 100 actively monitoring all constituencies to ensure peaceful and secure elections.

He said the police “have their eyes everywhere, in every constituency.”

“I had the opportunity to tour the police headquarters when I visited about 2 weeks ago. And this is something I have never done before. And I can confidently say that the special unit and election command that the IGP has set up is just spectacular.

I saw it; I went into the space. Over a hundred police personnel are behind their PCs, and they have their eyes everywhere, in every constituency. No, the security is top notch; nothing I have seen before, and this is just for the election,” he noted.

He went on to express confidence in the police security system, noting the force’s anticipated effectiveness during the elections, which would make rigging or any other related electoral malpractice difficult for perpetrators.

“The preparation the police have made with their focus now would be difficult unless a person wants to spend their Christmas at Nawam or a mental asylum because they have eyes everywhere.
The police are well prepared to ensure Ghana has peaceful elections, because with what I saw, the police are ready,” he added.

‘Our choices are for the living, not the dead’ – Dagbon Overlord urges peace ahead of Dec 7 elections

As Ghanaians gear up for the pivotal Presidential and Parliamentary Elections scheduled for Saturday, December 7, the King and Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Naa Abukari II, has issued a heartfelt appeal for peace.

Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for the reconstruction of the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, the Dagbon ruler called for a collective commitment to maintaining peace during the electoral process.

“I again use this occasion to appeal to all citizens of Ghana to remain peaceful throughout the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections,” the King stated. “I appeal to all and sundry to aspire to and seek a peaceful environment to continue exercising our choices now and forever.”

Ghana’s elections are highly anticipated and fiercely contested, with rising tensions across the political landscape. Recognising the stakes, statesmen and institutions have emphasised the importance of peace, echoing the Dagbon Overlord’s sentiments.

Ya-Naa Abukari II reminded Ghanaians that “our choices are for the living, not for the dead,” highlighting the necessity of staying alive to reap the benefits of democracy.

He also encouraged issue-based campaigns free of inflammatory language and violence, aligning his message with broader efforts to ensure peaceful elections in the Northern Region and beyond.

The sod-cutting ceremony marked a significant step in the Dagbon Overlord’s 10-year development agenda, which aims to consolidate peace, enhance agricultural productivity, and improve access to education. The reconstruction of the historic Gbewaa Palace symbolises a renewal of the region’s cultural and political legacy.

Beyond the elections, the Dagbon Overlord addressed pressing environmental concerns, urging citizens of the Northern Region to end bush burning, which has contributed to declining agricultural productivity.

This call complements ongoing efforts by the newly inaugurated Yendi Peace Centre to foster dialogue and prevent conflicts in the region.

The Yendi Peace Centre, established as a response to historical conflicts, continues to play a pivotal role in promoting unity among the diverse ethnic groups in Northern Ghana. Leaders across the region have rallied behind the centre’s vision, pledging to uphold peace and resolve disputes through dialogue and mediation.

As Ghana heads to the polls, the Dagbon Overlord’s appeal underscores the need for unity and restraint, reinforcing the shared responsibility of citizens, politicians, and traditional authorities to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

  • Bawumia pledges to uphold Ghana’s cultural values with anti-LGBTQ+ and witchcraft Laws

Bawumia pledges to uphold Ghana’s cultural values with anti-LGBTQ+ and witchcraft Laws

Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his commitment to preserving the nation’s cultural and moral values.

Speaking to congregants at the Believers Worship Centre in Kenyase, Ashanti Region, on 1 December 2024, he pledged to sign the anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-witchcraft accusation bills into law if elected as president.

“I am committed to ensuring that Ghana remains rooted in its cultural and moral values. If elected, I will sign into law the anti-LGBTQ+ bill and the anti-witchcraft accusation bill because our traditions and beliefs must be protected from undue external influence,” he said during the church service.

Dr. Bawumia also sought divine blessings for his presidential campaign and emphasised the importance of peaceful elections. “I believe in the power of prayer, and I call on all of you to pray for Ghana and for the success of the upcoming elections. Without God, we labour in vain,” he added.

The Vice President’s comments come amid debates over Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which seeks to criminalise LGBTQ+ activities, and the anti-witchcraft accusation bill aimed at addressing abuses linked to witchcraft allegations.

Dr. Bawumia has previously affirmed his firm stance on LGBTQ+ issues, stating that such practices conflict with Ghanaian cultural values and are unacceptable under his leadership. “On this matter of LGBTQ, I want to say again without any equivocation that we will not allow it in Ghana. It is not going to be allowed. Our Bible says no, our Quran says no, and our people say no. So no. That is the answer,” he asserted earlier this year.

The Founder of the Believers Worship Centre, Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah, welcomed the Vice President’s assurances, commending his dedication to safeguarding Ghanaian traditions. The pastor promised to support Dr. Bawumia’s presidential ambitions through prayers, highlighting the significance of his pledges.

These declarations have elicited both support and criticism, reflecting the divisive nature of these legislative efforts. The anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-witchcraft bills have been endorsed by some religious and traditional leaders but have also attracted opposition from human rights groups, citing concerns over discrimination and potential human rights violations.

  • Akufo-Addo faces calls to refund $58m in stalled national cathedral project

A recent report by Ghana’s Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has reignited controversy over the National Cathedral project, with North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa demanding financial restitution from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The CHRAJ report highlights procurement breaches, alleged mismanagement of funds, and questions over public spending priorities amid economic challenges.

The Commission revealed that approximately $312,394,049.53 has been spent on the halted project, including $58 million in what Ablakwa describes as “illegality.”

CHRAJ found that the contract awarded to Ribade Company Limited, the project’s contractor, violated Ghana’s procurement laws, rendering it invalid. The report recommended the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) cancel the contract and urged a forensic audit of the project to determine the use of state funds.

“Having found that the contract awarded to Ribade Company Ltd is void ab initio for being entered into contrary to the mandatory provisions of the Procurement Act, Act 663 as amended by Act 914, the Commission also recommends that the Board of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) should intervene to cancel the contract for the construction of the National Cathedral between the National Cathedral and Ribade Company as it has the power to do so under the Procurement Act,” the Commission reported.

Ablakwa criticised the President’s role, stating, “Everything begins and ends at the doorstep of Akufo-Addo,” and called for him to refund the $58 million. “President Akufo-Addo must be made to pay the compensation claims, refund $58 million, and cover the hole. The eminent clergymen were deceived by Akufo-Addo; everything begins and ends at the doorstep of Akufo-Addo,” he told the media in response to CHRAJ’s report on the matter.

He also demanded the immediate dissolution of the National Cathedral Secretariat, questioning why board members continue to draw salaries despite the project being stalled for over 30 months.

“The continuous payment for salary to the National Cathedral Board must stop. I don’t expect them to see their November salary. A project that has come to a halt for 38 months and the board is receiving a salary,” he added.

CHRAJ’s findings followed a 2023 petition by Ablakwa, which highlighted concerns over payments made to JNS Talent Centre Limited and alleged conflicts of interest involving Rev. Victor Kusi-Boateng, a board member of the National Cathedral. The Commission substantiated claims of procurement irregularities but dismissed allegations of conflict of interest.

The National Cathedral, a centrepiece of President Akufo-Addo’s 2016 campaign promises, has faced significant public opposition. Critics argue that taxpayer funds should not be used for its construction, especially given Ghana’s pressing economic issues, including a recent debt restructuring program.

CHRAJ’s recommendations include prosecuting those responsible for procurement violations and conducting a comprehensive audit of all expenditures linked to the project.

Ablakwa emphasised that accountability must be enforced, stating, “The $58 million must be refunded because we can’t spend taxpayers’ money on an illegality.”

Constituents left in poverty and hopelessness – Cheddar in his ‘Real State of the Nation’ address

The Presidential Candidate of the New Force Party, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, has expressed disappointment in lawmakers over what he describes as a neglect of their constituents.

In his address titled “The Real State of the Nation” on Saturday, November 30, 2024, the leader of the new force expressed deep concern for the widespread poverty, struggle, pain, and hopelessness among constituents, an observation he made during his campaign tour across all 276 constituencies ahead of the 2024 general elections.

He blames the state of the constituents on political leaders who have failed to invest meaningfully in the people and their communities, contributing to the underdevelopment he saw.

“I have discovered more poverty, pain, struggle, pollution, and hopelessness during this trip. Our leaders have not invested in the people and their constituencies,” he stated.

This, he said, has been eye-opening for him, informing him of the efforts that have to be put in to develop the human resources in the country.

“Tonight, I want to tell everyone who is listening to me that I have had the opportunity to travel around Ghana and I have had the chance to see what we live for and how badly we have treated our people, and that did not bring me down but rather it inspired me and made me realise we have work to do,” he added.

Additionally, Cheddar criticised the laws enacted by Members of Parliament, stating they did not address the actual needs of the people but rather made worse the challenges the country is battling.

The New Force Party leader urged Ghanaians to prioritise the country’s future over partisan loyalty in the December elections, advocating for informed voting decisions to foster meaningful progress and transformative change for the nation.

However, the balance of float—the total funds held in mobile money accounts—experienced a decline, dropping from GHS 25.1 billion to GHS 24.2 billion.

This surge in mobile money usage in October 2024 reflects favourable market dynamics, despite ongoing economic and regulatory hurdles, including calls for a reduction or elimination of the E-levy rate.

Regarding mobile money interoperability, the total transaction value rose from GHS 2.5 billion to GHS 2.8 billion. The total number of interoperability transactions also increased, from 18.5 million to 19 million. • Special voting happening now at selected polling stations in 14 regions

Special voting happening now at selected polling stations in 14 regions

Special voting is currently underway at selected polling stations across Ghana, marking an important milestone ahead of the December 7 general elections.

This exercise is for selected people, such as electoral officials, security personnel, and media representatives, to cast their votes ahead of time to ensure they can fulfil their duties during the main election.

According to the Electoral Commission (EC), about 131,478 individuals—accounting for 0.007% of the total registered electorate of 18,741,159—are expected to take part in this exercise today, December 2.

However, the Special Voting as originally intended, was expected to take place across all 16 regions nationwide. Following a ballot paper leakage and breach of security seals of the ballot papers for the Eastern and Western Regions, the EC issued a directive for a recall and reprint of the ballot papers.

To uphold the integrity of the process, special voting in the Eastern and Western Regions has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5.

Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, provided assurances to the public regarding the credibility and efficiency of the voting process.

She emphasised the EC’s dedication to addressing all concerns, ensuring transparency, and delivering a free and fair election.

The Special Voting exercise is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at designated polling centres across all 14 regions. Eligible participants must present valid identification to polling officials to cast their votes.

Unlike the general voting process, ballots cast during the Special Voting exercise will not be counted on the same day. Instead, they will be securely stored and tallied on December 7 at the Constituency Collation Centers.

The results will then be separately documented on Presidential and Parliamentary Election Results Collation Forms before being integrated into the overall election results.

  • Investigate and arrest culprits – NDC, PNC tells EC over ballot paper ‘leakage’ incident

Investigate and arrest culprits – NDC, PNC tells EC over ballot paper ‘leakage’ incident

The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and People’s National Convention (PNC), has called for further investigation into how a single defaced ballot paper, intended for the Eastern Region, was taken out of one of the printing houses contracted by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The NDC is calling for a probe because a defaced ballot paper intended for the Eastern Region was found outside one of the printing houses contracted by the EC.

This incident has raised concerns about the integrity of the election process.

Consequently, the EC ordered a recall and reprinting of ballot papers for the Eastern and Western Regions after detecting the leakage.

The Commission’s Chairperson, Jean Mensa, announced this at an emergency news conference on Sunday, December 1, announcing the leakage that has resulted in the postponement of the special voting, which was earlier intended to happen on December 2, 2024, to Friday, 5th in those two regions, to Thursday, December 5.

According to the Commission, this has become necessary after it was informed by National Security that a single defaced paper was taken out of Checkpoint Printing Limited Printing House.

The defaced paper was earmarked for destruction but unfortunately found its way out of the firm, which has been working with the Commission since 1992.

Amid all this,, all political parties agreed with the EC’s decision to recall and reprint the ballot papers. Two parties, the NDC and PNC, want the matter thoroughly investigated and the culprits dealt with.

The NDC’s Director of Elections, Dr Omane Boamah, is urging various security agencies, including the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), to investigate the incident.

Speaking to Joy News moments after the EC addressed the incident, Dr. Boamah said the situation tarnishes the credibility of the general election.

He said that, although the EC has decided to reprint the affected ballot papers, this action “will never erase the entire risk.” He also questioned the EC about the arrest of those responsible for breaking the seals on the ballot papers, stating, “In this case, we were not told whether the National Security or the Police arrested an individual or group of people and whether they are in custody.”

Dr Boamah therefore urged the country’s security agencies, who are responsible for protecting the ballot papers, to “immediately announce if they have arrested any culprits, and if so, who they are.”

“We are saying that the National Security, National Investigation Bureau, the Police, and the CID must let the public know who is involved,” he emphasised.

Also, the National Chairman of the PNC, Samson Awingobit, is calling for an investigation into the matter. According to him, destroying the papers alone is not enough, and a probe should be launched to identify the culprits for them to be punished accordingly.

Military personnel to stay away from polling stations unless called by police – GAF

Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has reiterated its dedication to maintaining peace and stability during the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, emphasising their assurance of unlawful interference at polling stations.

Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) communicated this through a statement that was released on December 1, 2024, signed by Director General of the Department of Public Affairs Brigadier General Eric Aggrey Quashie.

They said they are on standby for any support or assistance that will be requested from the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to restore order if necessary.

To ensure transparency and avoid any confusion, GAF has urged the public to report individuals impersonating military officers or wearing military-patterned uniforms at polling stations.

Reports can be made to the nearest police station or via the GPS toll-free numbers: 18555 or 0800 311 311.

I promise to go back to the shrine if Bawumia doesn’t win 2024 elections – Nana Agradaa

Evangelist Dr. Patricia Asiamah, also known as Nana Agradaa and founder of the Heaven Way Church, has vowed to give up Christianity if her prophecy about Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia winning the next presidential election doesn’t happen.

She firmly believes she heard from God and is confident in her vision of the Vice President’s victory. She asserts that any outcome contrary to this vision would imply that God is untruthful, which would be a basis for which she would consider returning to the shrine from which she came.

“If Bawumia does not win, then it means I’m not serving the correct God and that whatever revelation I believe is fake. If that’s the case, I will go back to the shrine and serve the gods. Mark my words,” she said in a video shared on X.

She further went on to urge all Ghanaians to vote for Dr. Bawumia, as he has already been appointed by God. On her part, whether he is voted for or not, his win is guaranteed by God.

“It has already been destined that Dr. Bawumia will win the elections. So whether or not you vote for him, he will still win. So why not vote for him? I’m not here to do politics; I’m just trying to tell Ghanaians the vision God has given me. I believe in God and whatever He tells me to be the truth,” she said.

Assembly Coordinating Director of Sekondi-Takoradi, Innocent Haligah, revealed plans to start a large-scale cleanup effort to address poor sanitation in the city.

“It’s time to intensify sensitisation about cholera. We need to educate the public on its rapid spread and encourage proper hygiene practices,” he said.

Two self-acclaimed NDC coordinators arrested for possession of G3 rifles and ammunition at Sangba

Officers from the Ghana Immigration Service at the Sangba Inland Checkpoint have arrested two men who were caught in possession of weapons and ammunition.

The men, who were riding two separate motorcycles, initially tried to bribe the officers with GHC20. However, when the officers insisted on inspecting the contents of the box, the suspects attempted to flee.

However, they were pursued and later arrested by the officers.

During interrogation, Balon Matthew, who claimed to be an area coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), gave two different explanations for how they acquired the weapons.

He initially stated that they purchased the weapons from a military man, with each rifle costing GHS 25,000, but later claimed they obtained the weapons from his uncle in Accra.

Kwasi Appiah, who is currently the head coach of the Sudan national team, previously worked as the Technical Director in the Interim Management Committee (IMC) until club legend Malik Jabir was appointed as the new Technical Director.

National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed over GH₵200 million to healthcare facilities across the country, signaling the start of free dialysis services for kidney patients under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

NHIA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, announced, “The NHIA has today [Sunday] released over GHS200 million as claims payment to healthcare facilities nationwide as free dialysis treatment begins.”

This initiative follows the NHIS’s announcement on November 30, 2024, listing accredited health facilities that will provide free dialysis treatment across Ghana, effective December 1, 2024.

The policy, unveiled by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, aims to relieve the financial strain on kidney patients covered by the NHIS. It builds on a successful pilot program earlier this year, which targeted patients under 18 and those over 60.

This nationwide rollout is expected to greatly reduce the financial burden on kidney patients, ensuring fair access to critical dialysis services.

2024 polls: Don’t pay attention to divisive and false prophecies, choose peace – Otumfuo

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised Ghanaians to disregard false prophecies that could jeopardise the nation’s peace and stability ahead of the December 2024 elections.

Delivering the Asantehene’s message at the annual prayer gathering on November 29, the Chief of Sewua, Nana Kwaku Amankwa Sarkodie, called on religious leaders to focus on fostering national unity rather than making predictions that could incite tension or chaos.

He further stressed the importance of vigilance in safeguarding the country’s peace, particularly during the election period.

“Ghanaians must focus on what unites us and ignore divisive and false prophecies,” he stated.

The Asantehene’s message comes as a timely reminder of the role of both citizens and religious leaders in maintaining a stable and harmonious environment during this critical period in the nation’s history.

“We will be going to the polls very soon. Otumfuo said I should tell you some individuals are engaging in false prophecies.

Some claim to be making prophecies to favour the New Patriotic Party (NPP), while others also make prophecies to favour the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“They have all forgotten that they have people among their followers who belong to different political parties and also hold different views,” Nana Kwaku Amankwa Sarkodie said.

The annual prayer gathering also featured intercessory prayers for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party.

Meanwhile, schoolchildren in Kumasi took to the streets to advocate for peace, emphasising the importance of unity during the electoral period.

These calls for peace have gained momentum following the signing of a peace pact by political parties, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring a peaceful election.

Otto Addo accepts responsibility for Black Stars’ poor performance – GFA

Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has taken full responsibility for the team’s recent poor performance, which led to their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This was disclosed in a statement issued after a meeting between Otto Addo and the GFA’s Executive Council on November 27, 2024.

During the meeting, Otto Addo presented a detailed 56-page technical report, which was thoroughly reviewed by the Executive Council and regional GFA chairmen. He also addressed all their questions and concerns.

The statement further highlighted that Otto Addo outlined a plan to address the identified challenges, emphasizing the importance of building a disciplined and accountable system to foster trust among players and staff.

The statement went on to say, “Addo also highlighted the importance of establishing a clear and recognisable playing philosophy moving forward.

“The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Regional Football Chairmen shared the nation’s disappointment with Addo.

“They echoed the widespread desire for the Black Stars to deliver better results, particularly in the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.

“Addo was informed that the GFA plans to engage in further consultations with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive strategy for the national team. This approach aims to create a sustainable path to success for the Black Stars.”

“The Commission has nothing to hide” – EC responds to critics over ballot paper shortages in Volta Region

Electoral Commission (EC) has reassured the public of its commitment to transparency and accountability in the upcoming elections.

This comes after reports of a shortage of ballot papers in the Bono and Volta Regions ahead of the December 7 polls.

According to the EC, these challenges were identified by its regional staff during routine checks, a standard procedure to ensure the correct printing and distribution of ballots.

In a memo sent to political parties and printing companies, the EC highlighted that this extra verification step is important to identify and fix any problems before Election Day.

The Commission also added that finding these shortages shows the effectiveness of its accountability system, which requires staff at regional and district levels to review all received ballots and ensure they match the quantities provided to printers and political parties.

“It is the Commission’s staff at the regional level that discovered these issues and reported back to the Commission as required. It is the Commission that ordered the reprinting of the shortfalls and informed the political parties. The Commission has nothing to hide,” stated Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations.

The EC revealed that similar shortages of ballot papers were found and corrected in regions including Greater Accra, Western North, Upper West, Western, and Bono East. Political parties were informed in writing, and reprints were made to address the discrepancies.

The Commission emphasised that it has always involved political parties in both the reprinting process and the disposal of defective ballots, reinforcing its commitment to transparency.

The EC also criticised misleading claims on social media that focus only on ballot paper shortages in the Volta Region without mentioning similar issues in other areas.

The Commission called these claims an attempt to damage its reputation and create distrust among the public.

“Why would the Commission inform political parties in writing if it had anything to hide? The memo in circulation demonstrates the Commission’s resolve to operate transparently and accountably,” Tettey emphasised.

The Commission has urged the public to disregard acts of mischief and to seek clarity from official sources to avoid being swayed by misinformation. It assured Ghanaians that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the credibility and integrity of the electoral process.

Bawku conflict: Death toll rise to 32 as 3 more people die, including a schoolgirl

The Bawku conflict has claimed more lives, including that of a schoolgirl.

The death toll from the conflict now stands at 32, after three more people have been killed following a violent gun exchange on Friday, November 29, 2024.

The sentence is clear and grammatically correct. However, it could be slightly refined for improved flow:

The violence reportedly began late Friday in the Gingande-Zongo area, where homes were also set on fire, according to a Citinewsroom report.

Gunfire, which reportedly began at midnight, continued into the afternoon, ceasing only around 1 PM.

Aside from the fatalities recorded, many residents suffered gunshot injuries, with several in critical condition.

This attack follows the death of another individual just two days earlier and the escalating tensions in the region.

The Bawku area has been plagued by ethnic and chieftaincy disputes, with violence intensifying in recent weeks, especially during curfew hours.

The resurgence of conflict has been linked to the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre from exile, a development some believe has reignited hostilities among factions.

Ambushes on travellers and skirmishes between rival groups have added to the instability, leaving security forces and local authorities struggling to contain the situation.

Mikki Osei-Berko reveals probable intentions of going into politics

Ghanaian actor and broadcaster Mikki Osei-Berko, popularly known as Master Richard, has revealed the likelihood of his venturing into politics in the near future.

Speaking during an appearance on Joy Prime, host of Prime Morning, Roselyn Felli, asked about his chances of becoming a Member of Parliament (MP). he responded, “Probably yes.”

Mikki has served as an Assembly Member for the Ayidiki Electoral Area in Accra for about 20 years.

“Because I think there are so many things that our parliamentarians have not looked at. I feel that governance in this country has not been so creative; they only take taxes and borrow money.

But I feel that there are opportunities that can bring the country money and sustain the citizenry through creativity and business-oriented governance,” he explained.

Speaking about his position as an Assembly Member in the past, he said on Changes, “I went as an independent candidate in the direction of God. I didn’t even think about it with anybody. I took the decision on the inspiration of God. I contested; everybody thought that I couldn’t win, but I won.”

However, he had to do just one term because he needed to leave the country to further his education.

“Even before the term ended, I had the opportunity to go outside to school. I went to the New York Film Academy to study film production, so before the term ended I had to go, and I thought that it was better to educate myself and come back a better person than just remain in politics,” he said.

Mikki Osei-Berko is well-known for his comedic characters, such as Kokonsa on Radio Gold, Dada Boat, and Master Richard on both radio and TV. He is admired for his impressive acting in films and his entertaining roles in commercials.

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has expressed his admiration for colleague musician Samini, calling him a best friend and expressing gratitude for him.

Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM in Kumasi on November 25, Shatta Wale noted that despite attempts by others to create conflict between them, he has nothing but respect and love for him.

“They crashed Samini’s head with my head, and that’s how now Samini is my best friend. I love him so much, and I owe him a whole lot of things in my life.

“I’m praying to God to bless me with more money so that on one of my birthdays, I can buy a big car for him,” he explained.

He also blamed the music industry, mentioning how similar tactics have been used with other artists like Stonebwoy and Black Sherif.

“Stonebwoy and now even Black Sherif, who is out there doing well, are trying to clash our heads, and the system is looking at it,” he added.

Despite their past rivalry over the title of ‘Dancehall King’ in Ghana, Shatta Wale and Samini have reconciled and are now on good terms.

The duo were recently spotted together in all smiles at NPP flagbearer Dr. Bawumia’s engagement with members of the creative arts industry.

  • BoG maintains policy rate at 27% due to currency and inflationary pressures

BoG maintains policy rate at 27% due to currency and inflationary pressures

The Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided to keep the policy rate unchanged at 27%, they announced in a communiqué, an usual approach of often holding press briefings to announce such decisions.

This follows a previous reduction from 29% in September 2024. The move is intended to stabilise inflation expectations and manage fluctuations in the exchange rate.

The decision was made after the MPC assessed the latest economic conditions in the country.

“Inflation projections show a slightly elevated profile driven by high and unstable food prices, pass-through of previous exchange rate pressures, fuel prices, and utility tariff adjustments. The price increases in food items have been steep in the course, and together with a fast-paced depreciating currency earlier on in the year, they have altered the inflation trajectory and stalled the disinflation process,” the MPC said in a press statement to announce the rate on Friday, November 29, 2024.

According to the committee, it was observed that the upcoming elections and increased demand for foreign currency have temporarily caused the exchange rate to weaken, deviating from the country’s economic fundamentals.

However, it expects the recent recovery of the cedi to continue as election-related uncertainties fade and the central bank boosts its foreign currency reserves.

The committee also emphasised that current policies are aligned with the ongoing IMF program, highlighting the importance of addressing issues like the consistent depreciation of the cedi to prevent long-term inflation pressures.

“At the time of the last MPC meeting, average inflation forecast a year ahead, which stood at 19.0 percent, has increased slightly to 20.1 percent at this forecast round. The horizon for inflation to get back within the target band of 6–10 percent has slightly shifted forward to Q42025 from the original forecast period of Q32025.

In the near term, strengthening of the currency will augur well for future price developments. Under the circumstances, the Monetary Policy Committee decided to keep the policy rate unchanged at 27 percent,” the communiqué added.

Inflation rose slightly in October 2024, reaching 22.1%, up from 21.5% in September. This increase was fuelled by higher prices for both food and non-food items.

Although the government aims to reduce inflation to 15% by the end of the year, achieving this target seems challenging with just a month remaining and significant risks still in play.

Housing in Ghana: New report suggests 99% of Ghanaian households can’t afford decent homes

The 2024 Revised Ghana Housing Profile report, launched by the Ministry of Works and Housing in partnership with UN Habitat and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), has revealed that only 1% of households in Ghana can afford proper housing.

The Ministry defines a proper home as one with enough space for everyone living there, protection against forced eviction, a hazard-free environment, and access to basic services like water, electricity, and sanitation. The home should also be located in a safe area.

The housing profile, based on data from trusted sources like the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), identifies major housing issues in Ghana and suggests ways to tackle them.

Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, expressed optimism that the findings would influence Ghana’s development plans and inspire impactful housing policy reforms.

“They are contributions of the body of knowledge in the area of housing, which should then influence the interventions that we roll out. Let this document serve as a blueprint for coordinated action guiding us towards a housing sector that meets the aspirations of every Ghanaian,” he said on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

At the launch of the Revised Ghana Housing Profile at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Professor Clifford Amoako, a professor of urban planning and head of the Department of Planning at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, shared key insights from the report. Some of the findings include:

    • Only 1% of Ghanaian households can afford homes built by formal real estate developers.
    • 11% of high-cost homes purchased remain mostly unoccupied.
    • The housing deficit has decreased from 2.8 million to 1.8 million over the last 10 years, showing an improvement of 1 million units.

Ballot paper challenges has exposed the EC’s incompetence – Bawah Mogtari

Special Aide to NDC Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has slammed the Electoral Commission (EC) over the reported shortages of ballot papers in parts of the Volta Region.

The affected areas include Keta, Ketu North, Ho Central, Hohoe, and Ho West.

On November 28, the EC announced the shortage, which has sparked public concern. During a press briefing on November 29, the Commission clarified that the issue was not limited to the Volta Region and assured the public that measures were being taken to resolve the problem.

Despite this, Bawah Mogtari accused the EC of inefficiency and questioned its ability to manage the electoral process smoothly. She hinted that the shortages could reflect deeper structural problems within the Commission rather than being mere accidents.

Speaking at the Legal Green Forum for law students and legal professionals, she emphasised the need for transparency and accountability. She urged the EC to take swift action to fix the problem and maintain public confidence as the December elections approach.

“This is not the first time we’ve pointed out that the Electoral Commission is not up to the task. They are not acting like an independent body. We’ve always suspected this because so many partisans are parading as commissioners. I’m happy these mistakes have been noticed, as they highlight the EC’s incompetence.”

“Even at the printing houses, we are being told they are printing more than they need. The beauty of this is that we are now very vigilant. Every step of the way, we’ve worked hard to expose the EC’s biases and incompetence.”

She emphasised the party’s commitment to protecting the integrity of the elections.

“This is an election the NDC is supposed to win. Ghanaians are yearning for change, and we will ensure that every ballot is protected. Our polling agents have been accurately trained, and we are poised for victory,” she assured.

The bus that was en route from Bawku to Kumasi with registration number GW 6471-22 was stopped. The driver, whose name has not been disclosed, has been arrested and is currently in police custody at the Bawku Divisional Police Command, where he has given a caution statement.

It is reported that the police acted on a tip-off. The ammunition is currently in police custody, but it is unclear when the driver will be brought to court.

Efforts to reach the Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Adamu Seidu, for further comments were unsuccessful.

However, in response to the incident, the Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA) issued a statement condemning the illegal transportation of the ammunition. The association has called for a thorough investigation by security agencies, including the police and the Ministry of National Security.

A statement signed by Awudu Bagura, President of MAYA, said: “We commend the security agencies for their diligence and swift action in seizing the bus carrying ammunition.”

The group called for investigations to ascertain the source or origin of the ammunition, the individuals or groups involved, and the intended purpose of the shipment.

Mr. Bagura urged the government and security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering and monitor transport routes in the country to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Actor and comedian Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr. Macaroni, has shared his thoughts on the struggles of being faithful and loyal in relationships and marriages.

It’s possible to achieve, but not easy, Mr. Macroni has said.

During an interview on the Diary of a Naija Girl podcast, popular skit maker Mr. Macaroni shared his thoughts on the challenges of staying faithful in relationships. He acknowledged that while giving relationship advice might seem simple, applying those lessons in real life is often much harder.

Mr. Macaroni pointed out that infidelity is a common issue faced by both men and women. He explained that once someone starts being unfaithful, it can become a habit that’s difficult to break.

He said, “It’s possible not to cheat, but it is very difficult. I might not be in a relationship or considering it right now, but I’m a relationship expert. I’m serious.

“I’m an expert because my friends talk to me about their relationships, and I advise them. But I think it’s easy to help them because I’m outside the relationship.

“So, it’s very difficult not to cheat as a married person. Both male and female, not just the man… You tell yourself that you will cheat only once, but once you start, there’s no going back.”

Media accrediation for constituencies and regional collation centres increases by 1192 – EC

The Electoral Commission has announced an increase in the number of accreditations for the media to cover the collation of results at the constituency and regional collation centres to 4,500.

This marks a thousand one hundred and ninety-two (1192) increase following the initial 3,308.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, November 29, 2024, the Chairperson of the EC announced that the Commission will issue the 4,500 accreditation cards to the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Ghana Independent Broadcaster Association (GIBA) by Sunday evening, December 1, 2024.

The EC added that the allocation and distribution of the 4,500 accreditation cards shall be done by the GJA and GIBA. The EC will not play any role in the allocation and distribution of the cards.

The Commission also noted that it needs the media more at this, rather at this crucial stage of the electoral process, highlighting that they are committed to working with the media ahead of the elections, during, and after the 2024 polls.

This remarks follow an earlier memo that suggested limited coverage by the media at the various collation centres, a move that was met with harsh criticism, with many labelling it as one of the ploys by the EC to rig the election.

In light of this, the Commission explained that its earlier communique was to ensure that there would be minimum coverage at all constituency and regional collation centres, rather than seeking to restrict media access to the collation process.

The earlier memo that suggested three TV stations and five radio stations per constituency collation centre and five TV stations and seven radio stations for each regional collation centre was therefore only to ensure minimum coverage of the collation process.

The Commission has however agreed with the GJA and GIBA that, in spite of the space limitation at many constituency and regional collation centres.

This amounts to 1,192 more accreditations to the constituency and regional collation centres.

Once again, the 4,500 accreditation cards will be delivered to GJA and GIBA by Sunday evening.

You have to protect your image as a man; don’t dry your wives panties – Life Coach warns

Life coach John Amponsah has backed men who assist their wives with household chores, but he believes there should be limits to certain tasks.

Mr Amponsah shared in an interview on GH One TV on November 29, 2024, that while he has no problem washing his wife’s clothes, especially her underwear, he would avoid hanging them out to dry.

“I can wash for you, but if you can’t walk and hang them yourself, I would have a problem with it. You have to protect your image and be careful with certain things. I won’t hang it because I have to protect my image,” he stated.

He also advised women who receive such support from their husbands not to share such details with others.

“A woman who goes out and tells people her husband is washing her pants is disrespecting herself. I can help, but don’t create the impression that your man is foolish. It should be kept private.”

He also asked men to take up provisional roles to avoid turning themselves into “slaves” in their homes.

“Also, it should be based on circumstances. For example, if your wife goes to work and you, as a husband, wait for her to come before you eat, you are turning yourself into a slave,” he concluded.

Making an appearance on Hitz FM on November 28, 2024, the “Bawasaaba singer” revealed multiple political parties have knocked on his doors to perform, including the NDC.

Stonebwoy clarified that although he has not personally engaged in discussions with NDC representatives, there has been communication from the party.

However, he asserted that his acceptance of these invitations would be primarily based on the party’s ability to settle his financial demands.

“There are a few offers I’m considering. I believe there’s one from the NDC. To clarify, I haven’t spoken directly to anyone from the NDC, but there has been a call from them.

We’re negotiating the financial terms, and if they are favourable, I’ll perform for my fans and use some of the money for the BHIM Festival,” he added.

Showboy gives details of how his relationship with Criss Waddle ended

Ghanaian socialite and artist Samuel Safo, popularly known as Showboy, has provided a detailed account of how his relationship with musician Criss Waddle ended on rocks.

Speaking on the ‘Delay Show’ with Deloris Frimpong Manso on November 23, 2024, Showboy revealed that the rift stemmed from a car deal in which Waddle allegedly took a percentage of the proceeds without informing him. He described the incident as a betrayal, which ultimately strained their relationship.

“Criss Waddle cheated me in business. I used to sell cars, and one of our boys asked me to buy a car for him.

After shipping the car to Ghana, Criss Waddle went behind my back and took a percentage of the money without telling me,” Showboy said.

He added that he was particularly upset because everything related to the deal, including the license to operate, was his own.

“I got pissed because it was all my money. Even the license I was using to operate was mine. So I didn’t understand why he did that, and that’s what caused our fallout. Up until now, I still don’t understand why he did that.”

Despite the fallout, Showboy acknowledged the support Criss Waddle had given him in the past, especially during a time when he was facing jail time.

“Oh, Kwaku (Criss Waddle) helped me, and I can’t deny that. There was a time when I wasn’t working, and he paid my rent and bills. He even helped me when I wanted to smoke. But what got me angry was that he didn’t make full payment when we had to pay my lawyer,” Showboy revealed.

He voiced his disappointment, feeling that their relationship lacked fairness and mutual effort.

“He was the reason I was arrested, and on the streets, he’s like my family, so he needed to help me. That’s how it works on the streets. I had to fund him when he had no money. This is how Black Stars physiotherapist was demoted to a lower-tier national team without a reason

Former physiotherapist for the Black Stars, Professor Jonathan Quartey, has revealed how Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku transferred to a lower-tier national team.

According to him, the technical team was disbanded and replaced with a new lineup. following the Black Stars’ lacklustre run at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews, the University of Ghana lecturer revealed that he was informed about his transfer to the local Black Stars upon the directive of Kurt Okraku. However, he noted that no explanation was provided for the decision.

“I think shortly after the AFCON [in Ivory Coast], the technical team was dissolved. If you all remember, the entire technical team was dissolved, so when it was reconstituted, I was not included in the current technical team. I’m told that the president has asked that I should be reassigned.

“The president of GFA said I should be reassigned to the local Black Stars. So, as we speak, I’m supposed to be with the local Black Stars. I don’t know; maybe there was a reshuffle. I don’t know, but I got a call from the GFA that the president said I should be reassigned to the local Black Stars.

“They wanted me to know because the list was going to be made available within that period, so I was called and informed. So if I had all the reasons before me, I would make them known to you, to be very honest, but I don’t.”

Prof. Quartey further indicated that he was disappointed with the decision because the team did not suffer severe injuries, but the minor knocks were treated during the 2023 AFCON.

“There were some knocks, aches, and pains that came as a result of being in camp, and these were well treated by the medical team, including me,” he added.

Give incentivized loans for purchase of locally assembled cars – Volkswagen CEO tells BoG

The Chief Executive Officer of Volkswagen Ghana, Mr. Jeffery Oppong Peprah, has urged the Bank of Ghana to support key players in the automobile industry by introducing incentivised loan schemes for the purchase of locally assembled vehicles.

Speaking at the launch of Volkswagen’s new product in Accra on November 28, 2024, Mr. Peprah emphasised that reducing interest rates on car loans could make locally assembled vehicles more accessible.

“Currently, when you go for a loan, you are paying about 30% interest rates, which is not affordable. We are appealing to the Bank of Ghana to implement a special incentive rate for locally assembled vehicles,” he stated.

Car loan interest rates in Ghana are currently between 25% and 35%, significantly higher than in countries like South Africa, where rates typically range from 10% to 15%.

Mr. Peprah believes that lower rates would encourage Ghanaians to purchase locally assembled vehicles, benefiting the economy.

He also expressed support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s proposed credit scoring system, which he believes would allow locally assembling car companies to offer flexible payment plans.

This system, according to Mr. Peprah, would help assess buyers’ creditworthiness and facilitate salary deductions for loan repayments, enabling more individuals to afford new vehicles.

In addition, Mr. Peprah highlighted the importance of integrating Ghana’s informal sector into the automobile industry to address the skills gap and improve industry standards.

The event featured the launch of the Volkswagen Amarok, a vehicle designed for Ghana’s terrain, offering enhanced safety, power, and comfort tailored to local needs.

Key industry stakeholders attended the launch to review the new product’s features and discuss its potential impact on the market.

Let your actions speak louder than your words – IGP urges politicians ahead of Dec polls

Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo-Dampare has urged political parties to align their actions with their words.

He emphasised that signing an agreement should not be a mere formality but a genuine pledge to honour the terms of the pact through their actions.

During the signing of the peace agreement, the IGP commended the political parties for their cooperation throughout the election preparations, acknowledging their collaborative efforts toward ensuring a peaceful process.

“…Let us make sure the cooking is complete, and when we are eating it, we will eat comfortably to the glory of God and also for the benefit of the generation that will come after us, so let us finish hard by doubling our efforts so that at the end of the day our actions will speak louder than our talks,” he said.

The IGP emphasised that ensuring peace does not end with signing the pact but requires continued efforts to maintain calm and stability before, during, and after the 2024 elections.

“It’s about what you have done that has made our work easy. But the important point is the fact that the job is still not done. It’s still a work in progress, and in our traditional circle, if there’s food to be cooked, you cannot half cook it and start eating it.

So we have eaten it in advance in terms of appreciating how far we have conducted ourselves as Ghanaians,” he added.

The National Peace Council met with representatives from all political parties and their presidential candidates ahead of the 2024 election today to sign a peace pact that will bind candidates to promote national unity and stability.

The event took place at the Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City, Accra, under the theme: Pursuing Peaceful Elections, Non-Violence, and Justice.

Mahama, Bawumia, other political party leaders sign peace pact

Presidential candidates contesting the December 7 elections have signed a peace pact as a sign of their commitment to ensure and uphold peace ahead of the 2024 polls, during and after.

The event took place at the Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City, Accra, under the theme: Pursuing Peaceful Elections, Non-Violence, and Justice.

Currently, 13 presidential candidates are officially contesting Ghana’s 2024 elections.

The current vice president and flagbearer of the ruling (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, and former president and presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, are the two leading candidates in contention to win the poll.

Others include independent candidates such as Alan Kyerematen and George Twum-Barima-Adu.

Speaking at the signing of the 4th Presidential Election Peace Pact in Accra on Thursday, November 28, Jean Mensa encouraged confidence in the electoral process and emphasised the importance of a peaceful and stable environment during the elections.

She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting peace throughout the electoral process leading up to the 2024 general elections.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), made a passionate appeal to political parties, the media, and security agencies to preserve peace during and after the elections. He stressed the need for all actors to ensure peace prevails, emphasising that Ghana has always passed the test of democracy during elections.

In attendance for the signing of the peace pact, John Mahama remarked that although the NDC will protect the country’s peace, the onus lies on all to play their part in safeguarding the country’s peace.

“We are all too aware of the devastating consequences of electoral violence in other countries. We cannot afford to traverse that same path. As patriotic citizens, we have a collective responsibility to ensure our country remains a beacon of peace and stability in our subregion, and we in the NDC stand prepared to play our part to achieve this,” he said.

His primary contender, Dr Bawumia, also assured that, “As we head into the December 2024 polls, the 9th presidential elections in Ghana, nine days from today, I am certain of two outcomes. Ghana will win, and peace will reign.”

He also added that “My plea to everybody involved in the electioneering process, including candidates, political parties, electoral officers, voters, the media, security, and the general public, is to take responsibility for ensuring peace and harmony seriously and to demonstrate that we are not reluctant Democrats.”

I’m not afraid to die – T.D. Jakes breaks silence after health scare during service

Founder of the Potter’s House in Dallas, Bishop T.D. Jakes, has spoken for the first time following a recent health scare that happened while he was delivering a sermon in church on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

In a touching video shared on Wednesday evening, the renowned pastor, who was seen seated in a wheelchair in a seeming hospital setting, thanked the medical team and supporters, citing the seriousness of his condition but clarifying that it wasn’t a stroke.

He attributed his current state to divine intervention, thanking God for sparing his life.

“I’m so grateful. So grateful to y’all,” Bishop Jakes said, addressing medical staff in the video. “All the people who prayed. All the people who texted. All the people who had prayer vigils. All the people who were concerned and sent love and notes. Just grateful. Thank you” he said.

Following the healthy scare, some netizens offered prayers for his recovery as they prayed against his death, but the renowed preacher has expressed readiness for life’s uncertainties.

According to him, he is “…not afraid to die,” he declared. “I don’t want to hurt my kids and the people who love me, my church that needs me, the world who called me, and the God who sent me. Sometimes you just got to be grateful.”

He added that “my job is to recuperate and reflect on God’s protection. I owe it to my amazing family and church members to rest and ruminate as He restores me towards His service,” he posted on Instagram.

The church is yet to announce when their founder and pastor will return to the pulpit, but his message of faith and gratitude continues to resonate with his global audience.

The 67-year-old pastor described an incident that occurred during one of his sermons. Witnesses reported that he suddenly sat down and began trembling, prompting church members to quickly gather around him. The live broadcast of the service was then abruptly cut off.

The Potter’s House later issued a statement on social media, saying: “During today’s service, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hourlong message. Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals. The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community.”

I don’t feign my accent; it’s a part of me now – Chris Attoh

Ghanaian actor Chris Attoh has responded to allegations that he has been feigning a Western accent.

In an interview on Joy Prime on November 27, 2024, the seasoned actor explained that the accent some people are calling “fake” is actually part of his efforts to represent and put Ghana on the global pedestal.

Due to his appearance in Hollywood movies, Chris said he had to consciously learn the British or American accent.

“What they’re calling a fake accent is actually my way of representing Ghana to the world. When we were kids, our teachers would punish us for not speaking English clearly. And once you open your mouth, you tell the world who you are.

“So, it’s not a bad thing to speak like an American or a Brit. In my case, as a Ghanaian working in Hollywood, I had to adapt. Sometimes it’s difficult, but I have to push myself to get it right,” he stated.

Chris Attoh advised Ghanaians to embrace learning multiple accents rather than sticking solely to the one they’re most comfortable with.

“It may be hard at first, but you’ll adapt over time. So my accent is not fake; learn it, because it will be helpful to you.”

Chris Attoh, a prominent Ghanaian-Hollywood actor, has gained recognition for his performances in various films, including Happiness Is a Four-Letter Word and 6 Hours to Christmas.

His talent has earned him significant nominations, such as Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 2018 Africa Movie Academy Awards and Best Actor at the 2016 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Ghana falls four places in latest FIFA ranking following poor AFCON run

Ghana now sits in the 77th position globally in November’s FIFA rankings after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana was previously ranked 73rd globally in October and 14th in Africa. This means that the Black Stars have dropped four places after a poor showing in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, one which ended with the Black Stars picking three points from three draws and losing three games.

In November, Ghana’s Black Stars recorded a 1-1 draw with Angola in their penultimate AFCON 2025 qualifying match, followed by a disappointing 2-1 home loss to Niger in their final game. This defeat confirmed their position at the bottom of Group F.

Despite their underwhelming performance, the Black Stars maintained their 14th-place rank in Africa. They trail behind top-ranked teams like Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Nigeria, as well as other strong African sides such as Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Mali, and Tunisia.

Meanwhile, Niger, Ghana’s Group F opponents, made the most significant improvement in November, climbing nine places to 122nd from 131st.

Ghana’s decline in the global rankings reflects their disappointing 2024 results. Their highest position this year was 67th in February, but since then, their ranking has steadily dropped, placing them 68th in April, 64th in June, and 68th in July.

By September, they had fallen to 70th, 73rd in October, and now 77th in November.

People have advised me to do drugs so that I can be wild during my performances – Safo Newman

Ghanaian musician Safo Newman has revealed that some people have recommended he use illegal substances to help him feel more confident while performing on stage.

But “Akokoa” hitmaker noted that he remains committed to his values, rejecting those suggestions.

In the interview with Andy Dosty, Safo explained that many people struggle to accept his introverted nature, as they fail to recognise the diversity in people’s temperaments.

“People have actually recommended that I should do some of these things [drugs] so that I will go wild [on stage]. I won’t be doing that. I don’t think I can do that,” he stated on Hitz FM during a conversation about public criticism of his calm demeanour on stage.

Safo Newman rose to fame early this year with his song “Akokoa,” following which he has been subjected to several criticisms for his fashion sense and performance style on stage.

In addition to “Akokoa,” Safo Newman is known for hits like “Miss Isabela,” “Sorrow Fly,” “March Past,” and “All the Way.” He is currently promoting a new song, “NPP, NDC,” which carries a message of peace.

Court dismisses Adom Kyei-Duah’s defamation case against Kumawood actor Sean Paul

The Asokore Mampong District Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Esther Rida, has dismissed the legal case involving evangelist and the founder of the Believers Worship Centre and Second Chance TV, Prophet Adom Kyei-Duah, and Kumawood actor Sean Paul.

This comes after Prophet Adom Kyei-Duah in July 2024 reported Sean Paul to the police, accusing him of defamation.

Sean Paul slammed the prophet during an interview on RTV, where he criticised the sale of items like hibiscus juice (‘sobolo’) in the prophet’s church.

According to him, products such as salt and sobolo, among other things, that are sold for spiritual purposes are exploitative, a scam, and a form of “daylight robbery.”

In response to this, the leader of the Believers Worship Centre filed a defamation complaint with the police, leading to the arrest of the Kumawood actor on July 15, leading to Sean Paul’s arrest and defamation charges.

Sean Paul was initially remanded in custody after his first court appearance.

His legal team appealed to a High Court, which granted him bail, although he continued to attend hearings at the Asokore Mampong District Court.

She noted that the matter, which began in Feyiasi, had been transferred between jurisdictions before landing in her court. She also questioned why a civil matter was being pursued in this manner.

After reviewing the case, the judge decided to dismiss it. Reports also indicate that Her Ladyship Rida has struck out similar cases brought before her.

  • Frank Lampard appointed head coach of Coventry

Frank Lampard appointed head coach of Coventry

English Championship club Coventry has named former Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard head coach of Championship club Coventry City in a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Lampard 46), takes over from Mark Robins with the team sitting 17th in the championship, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Robins was sacked on November 7, 2024, after seven years as manager. This is the first managerial appointment by club owner Doug King since taking control in January 2023.

Mark Robins joined Coventry City in 2017 and was sacked primarily due to a poor run of form, with Coventry City sitting 17th in the Championship table after a 2-1 home defeat to Derby County.

Lampard’s new role with Coventry marks his fifth managerial position.

His previous experience includes leading Derby County, Everton, and two separate spells managing Chelsea.

Lampard has mostly worked in the media since his poor spell as interim Chelsea manager in May 2023.

His first game in charge of Coventry City will be a home fixture against Cardiff City on Saturday.

“I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as head coach,” said Coventry owner King.

“Frank cut his teeth in the championship and knows what is needed in this league to be successful.

“His experiences thereafter at Chelsea and Everton will ensure he brings to our talented squad a clear understanding of exactly what is needed to succeed at the very top level that we as a club are striving to reach.”

Frank Lampard comes from a footballing family. His father, Frank Lampard Sr., was a West Ham United legend and played as a left-back for England twice. Lampard is also the nephew of Harry Redknapp, another West Ham icon and former manager.

Lampard’s professional journey began in October 1995 when he made his Football League debut on loan at Swansea City. A few months later, in January 1996, he played his first senior match for West Ham United as a 17-year-old in a game against Coventry City.

His career skyrocketed after he transferred to Chelsea in July 2001 for £11 million. At Chelsea, Lampard became a club legend, making 649 of his total 904 career appearances. Over 13 years at Stamford Bridge, he won 11 major trophies and became Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer with 211 goals.
