Video: Voters hoot at driver carrying food reportedly sent by Ursula Owusu-Ekuful in Ablekuma West

Voters in the Ablekuma West Constituency have allegedly rejected a delivery of food packs sent by MP Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, sparking mixed reactions and concerns about election fairness.

The incident occurred at a polling centre this morning, where an angry crowd booed and hooted at the driver of a pickup truck carrying the food, forcing the vehicle to leave amidst protests.

The vehicle’s occupants explained that the food packs were meant for party officials at the polling center. However, voters viewed it as an attempt to influence the election, leading to the confrontation.

A viral video capturing the scene has since circulated widely online, showing voters chanting “We don’t want it!” as the pickup truck was driven away under the watchful eyes of election officials and security personnel.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some have praised the voters for rejecting what they saw as unethical behaviour, others have called for calm and a more cautious approach to allegations of election misconduct.

This controversy comes after a similar incident on Monday, December 2, during the special voting exercise. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, was allegedly seen distributing food and water to people waiting in line to vote.

The MP has denied these claims, explaining that the food packages shown in the viral video were intended for her campaign team, Electoral Commission staff, and journalists at the polling station.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Dr. Joseph Whittal, had weighed in on another viral video showing security personnel collecting food while in a voting queue during the special voting exercise.

Speaking to journalists after a health screening event for 300 CHRAJ staff who will monitor human rights issues during the December 7 elections, Dr. Whittal expressed concern.

“When I looked at the video, it was more of an embarrassment because security officers must be security conscious,” he said, adding that such actions undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

EC denies involvement in military deployment at certain polling stations

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has stated that the Commission has no role in deploying military personnel or managing election security.

Her comments come after the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) announced plans to deploy military personnel to certain areas for election security.

The GAF assured the public that no soldiers would be stationed directly at polling stations.

Speaking to journalists during an update on December 7, Madam Mensa reiterated the EC’s non-involvement in security planning, stating, “In terms of security, we have no hand in it, and we do not make security arrangements.”

The explanation is meant to clear up any confusion and help the public understand the separate responsibilities of the Electoral Commission and security agencies during elections.

Charlie Dior describes the kind of woman he wants

Popular fashion critic and Ghanaian vlogger Charlie Dior has described the kind of woman he would want to settle.

Charlie Dior has faced questions about his sexuality due to his feminine traits and style. Many people have tagged him as gay.

However, he has embraced his feminine energy and stated that he cannot stress over it.

Speaking during an interview with Nana Rome on Accra 100.5 FM’s midmorning program, Ayekoo Ayekoo, he mentioned his attraction to financially independent women of good character since he is single.

He further explained that “I’m not searching, but I’m available.”

“I’m very single. So if there’s someone who is interested in me and is not ill-mannered, they should feel free to enter my direct mail,” Charlie said, answering whether he had a girlfriend or not.

“I do character. So have a positive vibe around you, [and] have a job. Have something going on for yourself because I don’t want you always depending on me, and let’s see if we can build something,” he responded.

He was quick to add that “chemistry” was important to him as well, no matter how someone looked.

Charlie Dior revealed he had never been in a committed relationship before.

“I’ve been in situationships,” he noted, explaining these were relationships in which he was “trying to see if it could happen.”

He said he had never been shown the same passion he had always shown his lovers.

“I don’t think I’ve been in love before. I’ve liked some people before [thought],” he curiously added.

Clearing all doubts, he said he had been with women before.

Though not in a committed relationship, he said, “I make love all the time. I’m not in a committed relationship, but every now and then [I enjoy intimacy].”

He underlined that he thoroughly enjoyed it.

He indicated that, given his arguably feminine looks and mannerisms, which attract so much “hate” online, “people adore me in real life on the streets.”

The Vice President and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cast his vote in the Walewale constituency in the North East Region.

Dr. Bawumia, who is contesting to become Ghana’s next president, exercised his franchise at his hometown polling station.

The Walewale constituency holds deep sentimental value for the Vice President, as it is not only his place of origin but also a key political stronghold for his party.

His presence there is seen as a boost for voter turnout, benefiting both his presidential bid and the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the constituency.

As the NPP’s candidate, Dr. Bawumia has campaigned on a platform of economic recovery, digital transformation, and job creation, positioning himself as the leader to steer Ghana through its current challenges.

His voting today marks a key moment in his journey toward potentially becoming Ghana’s first Muslim president should he be elected at the end of the 2024 election cycle.

Video: Pep Guardiola lost his temper, almost fought a fan after on the street after 0-2 defeat against Liverpool

Manchester City’s head coach, Pep Guardiola, was nearly involved in a physical confrontation with a fan after a recent loss.

A video circulating online shows the fan mocking Guardiola over the defeat, prompting an unusually heated response from the usually composed Spanish manager.

The fan was heard saying, “Cry, mate, just because you lost,” as Guardiola walked past.

Pep Guardiola, the former Barcelona manager, turned to confront the fan after hearing the comment, but his security team intervened to stop him.

It is still unclear if the incident happened after Manchester City’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

City had been struggling, losing six of their last seven matches without a win. However, they broke the streak with a commanding 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

Prison officer in police grips after allegedly attempting to take a picture of his ballot paper

A prison officer from Nsawam Prisons, Emmanuel Tawiah, has been arrested for trying to take a photo of his ballot paper during the Special Voting exercise on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Tawiah, who is said to be a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayensuano constituency, was caught by agents and security personnel at Coaltar.

When the police asked him to unlock his phone to delete the photo, he resisted, leading to a struggle.

He was eventually arrested and taken into custody, where he gave a caution statement. It is not yet clear if he has been released on bail.

Taking photos of a ballot paper during voting is against Ghana’s electoral laws, which aim to protect the privacy and fairness of the voting process.

EC says police has questioned it’s official for transporting election materials in private vehicle

Ghana Police Service has questioned an Electoral Commission official from the Afadjato South District for moving election materials in a private car.

According to a statement from the Electoral Commission, the private car did not have a police escort, which goes against the rules for handling election materials.

“The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the General Public that Officers of the Ghana Police Service yesterday questioned the Commission’s District Electoral Officer (DEO) of the Afadjato South in the Volta Region for transporting Election Materials in a private vehicle without Police escort.

The Police subsequently took custody of the items,” the statement signed by the EC Deputy Chair in charge of Operations. Samuel Tettey read.

The commission reminded its officials to follow the proper procedures for transporting election materials and promised to work with the police to investigate the issue further.

“The policy of the Commission is for its officers to transport all Election Materials in official vehicles with police escorts where necessary. The Commission will conduct its own internal investigations while also cooperating with the police in their investigations,” the release read.

EC also sought to allay fears that the materials might have been tempered with, telling the public the officer’s violation of its policy “will not in any way compromise the elections in the Afadjato South Constituency.”

Dec. 7 Polls: I am the future, Mahama is the past – Bawumia to Ghanaians

New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has positioned himself as the leader who can drive Ghana toward a brighter future.

He compared his vision for progress to what he described as the outdated approach of former President John Mahama.

At the NPP’s final rally before the December 7 elections, Dr. Bawumia said the upcoming vote is a crucial moment for the country’s future.

“This election is a clear choice between the future and the past. My opponent represents the past, and I, Dr. Bawumia, represent the future of this country,” he said, receiving resounding applause from supporters.

Dr. Bawumia emphasised the importance of continuity in the NPP’s transformative policies, which he said were focused on innovation and long-term development.

“So, the choice that we have on Saturday, as we go to vote, is whether we want to go forward into the future or backwards into the past. A mindset of possibilities underpins us in the NPP and the work that we have done,” he stated.

The NPP flagbearer reiterated his party’s commitment to positioning Ghana as an advanced nation, rooted in bold reforms and progressive policies.

“We believe that it is possible to transform this country into an advanced nation,” Dr. Bawumia added, calling on voters to support the NPP’s vision for sustained growth and prosperity.

Make sure to take this election seriously – Samson Anyenini advises citizens

Lawyer Samson Lardy Anyenini has advised citizens not to underestimate the importance of the upcoming elections.

He stressed that voters need to understand that there are serious consequences for breaking election laws.

Anyenini warned that anyone involved in illegal activities during the election could face heavy penalties.

He gave the example of Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the former Mayor of Kumasi, who was convicted in 2016 for destroying a ballot paper.

He also pointed out that many election-related offences are punishable by fines ranging from 200 to 500 penalty units.

He explained that “500 penalty units equate to approximately GH₵6,000. However, if someone is unlucky, they could face up to two years in jail for their actions.”

Additionally, Mr Anyenini noted that many offences come with a ban from voter registration and voting for a set period of time.

The lawyer also reminded everyone that on election day, there are strict laws about what can happen near polling stations.

It is illegal to try to influence or intimidate voters within 500 meters of a polling station, including pressuring them to vote for or against a certain candidate.

Mr. Anyenini finished by urging people to stay alert and careful on election day.

“If you see anyone who is not supposed to be where they are, speak up,” he advised. “If you witness any misconduct by security personnel, speak out.

Remember, their job is to ensure the safety of the public and the integrity of the ballot, not to abuse their authority.”

Court adjourns murder trial due to low number of jurors

An Accra High Court judge has expressed concern over the low number of jurors available for the murder trial involving Ben Lord Ababio, a self-styled traditional ruler, and another individual.

The judge, Justice Mrs. Kizita Naa Koowah Quarshie, instructed the court’s Registrar to gather more jurors so the trial could begin.

When the case was called on Tuesday, only nine potential jurors showed up. The accused persons had the option to choose jurors, with the right to reject some if necessary.

The court has postponed the trial until December 18, 2024.

Ben Lord Ababio, also known as Nana Barima, and Nana Kofi Amo Gyekye, also known as Nana Fiifi, are facing trial for their involvement in a land dispute that allegedly led to the death of Lance Corporal Michael Danso of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Two accomplices, Oteng and Salisu, are reportedly still at large.

Ababio and Gyekye are charged with conspiracy, with Ababio also facing a murder charge. Ababio remains in custody, while Gyekye is on bail of one million Ghana cedis, with two sureties, and must deposit his passport with the court.

On April 30, 2024, Lance Corporal Michael Danso, along with two colleagues, drove to the Millennium City Police Station in a Toyota RAV4 to report a trespassing incident on land owned by one of the officers, Lance Corporal Abdul Omar Rahman.

Ababio showed up at the police station and shot and killed Danso instantly.

Ababio was arrested by the police, and further investigations led to the arrest of Gyekye.

John Boadu, who played a key role in the project, shared the story behind this achievement during the event attended by community members and stakeholders.

“I received a petition on this issue from Nana Ejurahene after becoming the Director-General of SIGA. I then discussed it with my Minister, Hon. Joseph Cudjoe, to take it up.

“Together, we undertook numerous engagements, including meetings with His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, explaining that the lease for the Ejura Farms had expired as far back as 2018.

We advocated for the government to delist the farmland from the approved Cabinet Memorandum on the sale of assets of 17 defunct or inactive entities,” he explained.

Mr. Boadu expressed joy at the outcome, saying, “Today, the government has fulfilled its promise, and we are here to present all the documents to Ejuraman for them to reclaim their farmland.”

The Ejurahene expressed deep appreciation to John Boadu, Joseph Cudjoe, and the NPP government for fulfilling a long-standing request from the community.

“But for this, I don’t care” – Blacko’s response to Shatta Wale ending his career

Black Sherif has brushed off the social media drama with dancehall artist Shatta Wale, calling it unimportant.

Speaking to City FM in Nigeria on December 6, 2024, the musician made it clear he isn’t worried about Shatta Wale’s threats to ruin his career.

Black Sherif downplayed Shatta’s remarks, saying they don’t matter to him and won’t affect his focus.

“This is the second time I’ve been asked this question, and I think the kind of attention I’m supposed to give that thing is pretty irrelevant in my world. You have to care about something to even let it bother you, but for this, I don’t care,” he stated.

Blacko also made it clear that he doesn’t view Shatta Wale as a rival.

“Nothing can happen between me and Shatta Wale. It just can’t happen. Because of the kind of position we both occupy in society, the street can’t have that kind of bad blood,” he added.

Black Sherif further denied rumours circulating online that his Snapchat story was intended to mock Shatta Wale’s fashion sense.

“I didn’t post anything on my Snap because of him. So, because someone went to do an interview, shouldn’t I post it on my Snap? I didn’t reply to him, and whatever they said online is just fan-fueled stuff,” he said.

    Background

The feud between Shatta Wale and Black Sherif started on October 31, 2024, during Shatta’s interview on the Bant, Rants, and Confessions podcast.

Shatta Wale took a swipe at Black Sherif’s fashion, suggesting he needed to dress better.

Shortly after, Black Sherif posted a photo of Shatta Wale on Snapchat with the caption “I plaster everywhere,” which many saw as a playful dig at Shatta’s looks.

Special Voting: EC announces high voter turnout nationwide

The Electoral Commission (EC) has lauded the impressive voter turnout during the Special Voting exercise held on Monday, December 2, 2024.

At a media briefing, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa revealed that voter turnout across constituencies was notably high, with the lowest recorded percentage being 83%, as reported by Citi Newsroom.

Mensa also announced that 18,774,159 registered voters—representing 55% of Ghana’s total population—are expected to participate in the general elections on December 7.

She assured the public that all necessary electoral materials and equipment had been adequately distributed nationwide, minimizing the likelihood of shortages.

Addressing media engagement, she highlighted that close to 10,000 journalists have been accredited to cover the elections, granting them access to polling stations, as well as constituency and regional collation centers.

Underscoring the media’s role in combating misinformation on Election Day, Mensa called on journalists to prioritize accuracy and truthfulness in their reporting to ensure the public is well-informed.

Kufuor endorsement of Bawumia is an indirect campaign against me – Alan Kyerematen ‘rants’

Leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has accused the former President John Agyekum Kufuor of working against his presidential ambitions.

Kufuor has endorsed Bawumia before, which wasn’t an issue, Alan said, however, this time, Kufuor’s comparison of Bawumia with other candidates, lauding the vice president as “better” or “the best” elevates him above other candidates suggesting it undermines his own efforts in the race.

Kyerematen emphasized his position as a key contender in the election, highlighting the significance of not overlooking John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, as both he and Kufuor are respected former leaders of the nation.

He urged the former president to refrain from making public endorsements, cautioning that such actions could create division and negatively impact the political landscape.

Speaking in an interview on Starr FM on December 5, 2024, he stated, “I will tell President Kufuor that after a distinguished career in politics, he should stay out of election pronouncements about the pending election.

“You may recall that this is not the first time that he is endorsing the vice president, and nobody had any difficulty with that. But when you go to the extent of making comparisons that he is better or the best, then it means that you are campaigning against the two of us.

“And the way I see it, if he was saying this also in respect of former President John Mahama, then it is very strange because I will find it difficult to understand how he will be able to convince the NDC that Bawumia is better than former President John Mahama.

“It would be strange for a former head of state to make a judgment against another former head of state. So if that were the case, then I take it that he is basically campaigning against me.”

  • GAPTE anticipates Bawumia’s electric buses will take over commercial transport system in 2025

GAPTE anticipates Bawumia’s electric buses will take over commercial transport system in 2025

Managing Director of the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE), Charles Annan, under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, has expressed optimism about replacing most of the fuel-powered buses in the country’s transport system with electric ones.

This announcement follows Ghana’s receipt of its first shipment of 50 electric buses as part of a government initiative led by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, aimed at bringing 100 electric buses to the country by the end of the year.

The new fleet, which arrived on November 12, is designed to reduce carbon emissions, lower transport costs, and introduce cleaner energy alternatives to the nation’s public transport system.

Speaking during a media engagement on December 4, 2024, Annan emphasised the advantages of electric buses, including reduced transport fares due to the elimination of fuel costs.

As a result, he anticipates that electric buses will soon replace the fuel-powered buses currently in use nationwide.
“Because we don’t buy fuel, the prices of transport have been reduced for those who board the electric buses, compared to other commercial buses.
Looking at their cost-effectiveness and durability, I believe that by the end of 2025, the majority of our commercial vehicles will be electric. It’s a game-changer,” he said.

He also revealed the government’s plan to establish solar-powered charging stations for the newly launched electric buses.

“Ultimately, we aim to use solar power to charge the buses. From the studies conducted, we can set up solar panels at Adentan and charge the buses using solar energy. By 2025, we hope to fully implement this initiative,” he added.

The electric bus plan was first announced by Dr. Bawumia in July 2024 during a meeting with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU). According to Dr. Bawumia, the government’s push toward electric vehicles (EVs) aligns with Ghana’s climate goals and aims to reduce the high cost of transportation for citizens.

The electric bus initiative also aims to motivate private transport operators to consider similar eco-friendly options. In addition, the government has outlined plans to build a nationwide network of EV charging stations, which will support the new bus fleet and contribute to the infrastructure for future electric vehicle use.

The public response has generally been positive, with many hopeful that the shift to electric buses will address long standing issues in Ghana’s public transportation system.

As these buses enter regular service, they are expected to reduce Ghana’s dependence on imported fuel and could lead to lower transportation costs over time.

Africa leads globally in women and girls’ deaths caused by partners or family – UN Women report

The 2023 report from the United Nations Women and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), titled “Femicides in 2023: Global Estimates of Intimate Partner/Family Member Femicides,” highlights that femicide—the most extreme form of violence against women and girls—remains a global issue.

According to the report, every ten minutes, a woman is killed by an intimate partner or family member.

“Globally, 85,000 women and girls were intentionally killed in 2023. Of these, 60 percent—51,100—were killed by an intimate partner or family member. The data shows that 140 women and girls are killed every day by their partner or a close relative, which means one woman or girl is killed every 10 minutes,” the report states.

The report also reveals that Africa recorded the highest number of femicide cases in 2023, followed by Europe and the Americas.

“In 2023, Africa recorded the highest rates of intimate partner and family-related femicide, followed by the Americas and Oceania. In Europe and the Americas, most women killed in the domestic sphere—64 percent and 58 percent, respectively—were victims of intimate partners, while elsewhere, family members were the primary perpetrators,” it adds.

To address this issue, UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous has called for stronger laws and greater accountability from governments worldwide.

“Violence against women and girls is not inevitable—it is preventable. We need robust legislation, improved data collection, greater government accountability, a zero-tolerance culture, and increased funding for women’s rights organisations and institutional bodies,” she emphasized.

Meanwhile, femicide continues to be a major issue in Nigeria, fuelled by deeply rooted patriarchal beliefs and cultural pressures. Between July 2023 and June 2024, the country recorded 52 cases of women being killed.

Ghana faces a similar challenge, with over 100 women murdered by male partners between 2021 and 2023. The Gender Centre for Empowering Development (GenCED) is calling on the government and law enforcement agencies to collaborate in addressing this concerning trend.

Video: Pastor Love allegedly celebrates after fulfilling GHS2 million bail requirement

Ex-husband of Ghanaian gospel musician Christiana Love, Pastor Hammond Love, has expressed his excitement after he was granted in his appeal against a 48-month prison sentence for theft.

The Accra High Court set his bail at GHS 2 million, requiring two sureties secured by landed properties. According to a report by Ghpage TV, Pastor Love, who eventually met the bail conditions, has now been released from custody.

A viral video shows Pastor Love happily singing and dancing to King Paluta’s “Akoma” while driving. His joyful celebration drew mixed reactions online, with some criticising his choice of music, saying a pastor should have used gospel songs to thank God after his release.

Pastor Love’s troubles began on October 1, 2024, when he was found guilty of stealing a Toyota Highlander from his childhood friend, Samuel Amankwah. He was sentenced to four years in prison with hard labor.

Although he was granted bail weeks ago, he was sent back to jail for failing to meet the bail conditions.

After several delays, his legal team finally gathered the funds needed to fulfil the court’s requirements, leading to his release. However, his public celebration, especially his use of secular music, has sparked debate, with some questioning whether it aligns with his role as a pastor.

Who shared rice and chicken in America during their elections? – Blakk Rasta slams politicians

Blakk Rasta, a well-known broadcaster, has spoken out against vote-buying and the use of bribes by politicians to sway voters during elections.

He criticized recent cases of vote-buying, particularly during the Special Voting exercise, where Ayawaso West Wuogon MP Lydia Alhassan was spotted handing out food to people waiting at polling stations.

Calling the act disgraceful, Blakk Rasta contrasted it with the disciplined behavior of voters in the United States during their recent elections.

“Ancient Ghana was here before America, yet in their elections, nobody handed out fried rice and chicken to voters in a queue. Nobody went around bribing the electorate,” he said.

He also questioned the integrity of those involved in such practices.

“Where lies your integrity? How do you feel knowing your election was won through bribery?” he asked.

Blakk Rasta went on to criticise the political system in Ghana, claiming that it is designed to oppress the people.

“Politics is here to oppress us. Before we can get food, shelter, or anything, we have to vote for them. Even when they use our own money to provide us water, we still have to vote for them first,” he fumed.

To him, every election in Ghana exposes how easily some voters are swayed.

“Every time it comes to an election, I see the reality. I see how short-circuited the Ghanaian brain is. It shows us how mediocre we are and tells us that we are still in the stone age. The common sense of the average Ghanaian is so low, and it hurts.”

Blakk Rasta also noted that in Ghana, elections prioritise peace over justice and equal rights, a development he has highly condemned.

“In all our elections, we prioritise peace over equal rights and justice. Even when politicians misbehave, you’re forced to walk away in the name of peace,” he said.

NDC announces a 5-day nationwide fasting and prayers ahead of Dec. 7 polls

National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared a five-day nationwide fasting and prayer program for its members ahead of the December 7 election.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the party’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, explained that this initiative is a spiritual effort to support their ongoing campaign activities as the election approaches in just two days.

“We have done a lot of work on the ground, and all that needs to be done humanly. Spiritually, we have prayed and are currently on a five-day fasting prayer around the clock,” a report by adomonline.com quoted him to have said.

Mr. Gyamfi said he was confident that Ghanaians would cast a large number of ballots for the NDC on December 7 to ensure their win.

“I will encourage NDC supporters to be excited about this election because we have worked, and the message has gone down well. The summary of our message is for Ghanaians to vote based on their living conditions,” he added.

The NDC is set to hold its final rally today, Thursday, December 5, at Zurak Park at Madina in Accra, with the theme Resetting Ghana—Let’s Finish Strong!”.

The party is poised to wrestle power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) on December 7.

The NDC asserts that the country is at a pivotal moment and necessitates an immediate overhaul, criticising the government for failing to uphold its commitments.

GFP’s Roamn Fada denies endorsement of NDC by Party

Disqualified flagbearer for the Ghana Freedom Party, Philip Appiah Kubi, well known as Roman Fada, has denied media reports that the party has declared support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

This comes after Jerry Addo, the Deputy General Secretary of the GFP on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 during a media briefing 4, announced the party’s decision to support the NDC after extensive consultations with its executives.

“The Ghana Freedom Party is supporting the candidature of H.E. John Dramani Mahama on Saturday, December 7. He’s going to capture power to save Ghanaians. And I want to state here, it’s a fact, nobody has coerced us, nobody has influenced us into arriving at this decision,” Addo stated.

He continued to say that “We critically examined the manifestoes and policies of the various political parties and even the independent candidates. That is why we have arrived at this decision very late.

    https://www.youtube.com/shorts/5ivcKN8l_oI

Because we just have from today, Wednesday, up to Saturday. It was not easy; we did extensive consultations. And you see, our mother, the [late] flagbearer, had women at heart.”

HOwever, during an appearance on Citi FM, Roman Fada stated that the party has not endorsed any political party.

“We have not endorsed any political party. Not that we have issues with either NDC or NPP, but as the leader of the Ghana Freedom Party currently, with my general secretary, my four parliamentary candidates, and the other executive members, we have not endorsed any political party.

“And I will make it clear that it is fake. I know we have barely three days or two days to election day, and we will come up at the appropriate time,” he said.

Acting has earned me lands, hospital and other properties projects – Salinko reveals

Ghanaian actor Salinko, whose real name is Abraham Kofi Davis, has shared how his acting career has earned him some good money to buy some properties for himself aside from the fame and ambassadorial deals he has secured as a Kumawood actor.

In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo midmorning show on December 4, 2024, he revealed that his work allowed him to purchase three valuable plots of land in well-developed areas about 10 years ago.

“I made money by God’s grace from movies,” the movie and comic star said.

“Movies were beneficial to me. I made a certain amount of money from them.

“But beyond the money, I became a brand ambassador for several businesses. I do this till now—ads, billboards, etc. So movies helped me.”

Acting helped me buy three plots of land in Kumasi,” he revealed, noting he only said this to encourage his audience and not to vainly boast.

At the time, the plots cost between GHC 20,000 and GHC 55,000 each, and he has big plans for each one.

One plot is for building a hospital in Kwanta, a community he once dreamed of representing as an MP.

Another plot, gifted to his mother, fulfils her lifelong wish to own land as a token of appreciation.

The final plot is set aside for a housing project.

Salinko also mentioned owning a production factory, adding that he does not settle for low fees when signing ambassadorial deals. “I don’t charge less for deals. I really charge,” he stated, citing billboards as evidence of his marketability.

Having started his journey in 2014, Salinko attributes his achievements to the financial stability acting has provided, proving the industry’s potential to secure lasting wealth when approached.

I’m different from Jose Mourinho; I have won 6, he won 3 – Pep Guardiola to critics

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has addressed criticism about a hand gesture he made during the match against Liverpool at Anfield on December 1, 2024.

Guardiola explained that holding up six fingers was not a hint about leaving the club, as some had speculated, but simply a way to highlight the six Premier League titles he has won.

He also brushed off comparisons with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, pointing out that his own success in the Premier League surpasses Mourinho’s.

Speaking at a press conference before City’s game against Nottingham Forest, Guardiola emphasised his achievements and dismissed any rumours about his future.

“I hope not in my case [his domination in the EPL coming to an end like Mourinho]. In the end, maybe I am quite similar to Jose. He won three, and I won six [Premier League titles],” he said.

Pep Guardiola faced criticism for showing six fingers to Liverpool fans during their taunts at a recent match.

The former Barcelona coach explained that he made the gesture in response to chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning,” which he found disrespectful.

Manchester City has had a tough start to the 2024/25 Premier League season. With 13 games played, they’ve managed seven wins, two draws, and four losses.

Currently, City sits fifth in the league with 23 points, 11 points behind leaders Liverpool.

In recent times, MPs such as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, reportedly joined some constituents in preparing and driving banku as part of her campaign activities ahead of the 2024 elections.

Others took on roles as petty traders; some washed their constituents clothes; and others, including National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Sam George, joined his constituents in farming, specifically assisting with the planting of crops.

Don’t vote for Mahama; he is a greedy leader – Prince David Osei

Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has urged Ghanaians to vote against former President and presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama, calling him a “greedy” leader.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on December 3, 2024, Prince questioned why Mahama still wants to lead after holding several key positions over the past 24 years.

He noted that Mahama has served as a Member of Parliament, Deputy Minister, Minister, Vice President, and President, and suggested that it is time for him to step aside and give others a chance to lead.

“MP for 12 years, Deputy Minister for 4 years, Minister for 4 years, Vice President for 4 years, President for 4 years, and Former President for 8 years.

Yet he still wants to be president again. The greediness of some African leaders must never be encouraged,” he said.

The actor urged Ghanaians to cast their votes in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming December 7 elections.

He then encouraged citizens to give Bawumia a chance, emphasising that the NPP flagbearer would bring positive change to the country.

“Let’s all vote for a new person. Let’s vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia #1,” he added.

  • I don’t feel any hardship in Ghana” – Bantama market woman disagrees with Mahama on the economy

I don’t feel any hardship in Ghana” – Bantama market woman disagrees with Mahama on the economy

Prominent research bodies, including the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and Fitch Solutions, have released projections concerning Ghana’s upcoming presidential election, scheduled for December 7, 2024.

Both institutions predict a victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, citing challenges such as declining living standards and economic hardships under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

These issues have been central to Mahama’s campaign message, which emphasises the need for change to address Ghana’s economic difficulties.

However, this narrative has not resonated with all voters.

In a video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), a trader at Bantama Market firmly declared her support for the NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

She dismissed Mahama’s claims of widespread economic hardship with a passionate accusation of the former president selling Ghana’s port to a private group under a 35-year deal, resulting in increased port fees.

Asked if Mahama’s claim of harship in Ghana is true, she said, “As for me, I don’t see any harship in the country.”

She further went on to commend the Akufo-Addo-led government for its flagship policy, the Free SHS, for which she insists the NPP has her vote.

On her part, she chooses the NPP because, as an illeterate, she would like to see all her children educated, which would be possible only under the NPP-led government, which would offer a free senior high school program.

“Are you asking who I’m voting for in this election? Why would I vote for John Dramani Mahama when Nana Addo and Bawumia are in the race?

For me, I’m voting for Bawumia to continue Akufo-Addo’s good works, especially the Free SHS policy. I may not be educated, but what matters to me is seeing my children educated and not rearing chicks.

Even if Akufo-Addo had done nothing else, the Free SHS policy alone is enough for me to vote for them again” she said..

Video: Agoo TV’s Afia Pokua calls Manhyia saga a ‘blessing in disguise’

Journalist at Agoo TV’s, Afia Pokua, criticised the Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, earlier this year during an interview with Mona Gucci on local channel Onua TV, where she expressed frustration about the Asantehene’s perceived silence amid ongoing conflicts involving his subjects and other tribes, including the Bonos.

Her comments were met with harsh reactions given the reverence the Asantehene is given in Ghana and even inernationally.

In reaction to this, she travelled to the Asantehene’s residence, Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, to apologise for her remarks during the interview.

Dorning a black dress and in the company of some elders and Mona Gucci, she knelt and begged for forgiveness, but her apology was rejected as some elders of the Asantehene talked don on her for her ‘disrespect’ towards the Otumfuo.

Her treatment at Manhyia gained traction online as many perceived that as the genesis of her downfall in her career but she has labelled it as a blessing in disguise, naming opportunities that have come her way following the incident.

During an appearance in an interview, the Agoo TV journalist revealed that the controversy brought her unexpected fame and opened doors to opportunities she had never imagined.

“The issue that happened gave me the exposure I never expected. I won’t focus on the negatives; the positives have been huge. Do you know the massive fame and popularity I’ve gained because of this? Do you know the kind of contacts I now have? If I tell you the number and type of contacts on my phone, you’ll be shocked.

“You saw where you met me today, right? It was just a phone call, and this chief (Owoahene) asked me to be the MC for his birthday. He had never met me before; this is the first time I’m seeing him. The person who connected us is my godfather. So, when I look at it, the positives far outweigh the negatives,” she said in an interview with Smart Ghana TV.

In response to the elders’ statements at the Manhyia Palace stating that she was cursed, Afia Pokua firmly rejected such claims.

“I don’t have any curses on my life. I pray like crazy. What the heavens have said concerning my life is what will manifest, not what any human being says.”

Afia Pokua added that 2024 has been a turning point for her.

“2024 has been my year. I won’t deny God the praise. If for anything at all, He has looked after my family, loved ones, and even my enemies. So I am grateful,” she stated.

Kwasi Appiah takes back role as Execom member of GFA after temporary suspension

Head coach of the Sudanese national team, James Kwasi Appiah, has returned to his position as a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council.

This comes after he was suspended temporarily by the GFA. The suspension, according to Asante Forkuo, Appiah’s personal assistant, ended on November 30, 2024.

Appiah had stepped down from his role earlier due to public criticism surrounding the Black Stars’ upcoming matches against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

“Per the letter written by Coach Kwasi Appiah to GFA and copied to CAF, he has now returned as an Executive Council Member of GFA.

“The temporary suspension (Step-Aside) ended on 30 November 2024,” Asante Forkuo wrote on his X page on December 3, 2024.

    Background

Head coach of Sudan, James Kwasi Appiah, resigned from his role as Executive Council Member of the GFA.

According to Asante Forkuo, Kwasi Appiah’s aide, the decision was taken due to a conflict of interest regarding the coach’s dual role as a member of the GFA and Sudan head coach simultaneously.

It was also indicated that it is a temporary resignation, lasting until November 2024, to enable Appiah to focus solely on the Sudan team as they prepare to face the Black Stars of Ghana.

“Coach Kwasi Appiah has temporarily stepped aside as Executive Council Member of the GFA until the end of November 2024. In response to CAF copied GFA, he cited conflict of interest as the reason.

“Since the start of AFCON qualifiers, Appiah has excused himself from all Exco activities,” Asante Forkuo shared on X on October 7, 2024.

Pressure on Appiah increased since his team, Sudan, was drawn into the same group as Ghana for the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

He has also performed at various New Patriotic Party (NPP) events.

While some fans appreciate Paluta’s ability to engage with both political parties, seeing it as a smart career move, others have accused him of lacking loyalty.

King Paluta has faced criticism for being seen at both NDC and NPP events, with some accusing him of using political affiliations for personal gain rather than sticking to one side.

This has led to accusations of him being a “stomach musician,” focused more on opportunities than loyalty. Some fans have even called for him to be “canceled” for what they view as opportunistic behaviour.

Traditional Council of Techiman responds to convoy attack allegations

Techiman Traditional Council has reacted to news trending on social media on an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during his recent visit to the Bono East Region.

According to a report by MyJoyOnline, the Techiman Traditional Council has clarified that there is no conflict between the people of Techiman and the Ashantis.

This statement comes after an incident on December 2, 2024, when unidentified youth reportedly threw stones at vehicles in the Asantehene’s convoy as it returned to Kumasi after a funeral in Nkoranza.

The preliminary police reports indicated that some buses in the convoy were targeted. Despite this, the Council dismissed claims of hostility, emphasising the close ties between the Asantehene and the Techimanhene, who both belong to the Oyoko Clan and share a history of mutual respect and cooperation.

The Council also addressed allegations that Otumfuo’s security guards had fired shots and mistreated civilians in Techiman. They suggested that these accusations may have caused misunderstandings, provoking the youth to react.

They added that unverified social media reports exacerbated tensions in the community.

“Chieftaincy is a revered institution that must be respected at all times,” the Council stated.

The Council urged people to use social media responsibly, warning against spreading false information or insulting traditional leaders online. They highlighted the importance of avoiding content that could fuel tensions or mislead the public.

Thanks to the quick response from security personnel, the situation was brought under control, and those injured received medical care at the Holy Family Teaching Hospital.

Reaffirming its dedication to maintaining peace, the Council emphasised that Techiman is a diverse and inclusive town that welcomes people from all walks of life. They called on the public to avoid any actions or remarks that might disrupt the harmony in the community.

Food sharing at special voting: Security officials taking food in queue? Very concerning! – CHRAJ Boss

Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Dr. Joseph Whittal, has criticised some security personnel for accepting food distributed by Lydia Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, during the special voting exercise on Monday.

He called the incident shameful, emphasising that security officers must prioritise alertness and professionalism at all times.

Addressing journalists after a health screening for 300 staff members of the Commission who will be deployed to monitor human rights issues during the December 7 elections, Dr Whittal said: “When I watched the video, it was quite embarrassing.

    Security officials must be security-conscious.

How can you come to exercise your franchise and somebody give you food? You don’t even know where the food is coming from, and you take it as though it is okay.

“Particularly when you are being given the opportunity to exercise that franchise in preparation to secure the environment on the 7th for all Ghanaians to exercise their franchise, yet you start on such a bad note.

“What happens if you go to the field and other people distribute food to those in the queue? Are you sure you would be able to make any arrests in such situations? This incident suggests you wouldn’t see it as a problem.

“At the level of the individual officers involved, this is concerning. To all security agency leadership, this is a clear indication of poor performance.

When it comes to election-related matters, they need to be more vigilant, especially regarding the distribution of money, food, and other items around polling stations.”

Dr. Whittal added: “They ought to go back to the drawing board and strive to do better next time.”

Some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have begun slightly raising fuel prices as the first pricing window for December starts. Shell has already adjusted its prices, increasing both petrol and diesel rates.

Petrol, which was selling at GH₵14.82 per litre in late November, now costs GH₵14.99 per litre. Diesel has also seen a small rise, going from GH₵15.66 to GH₵15.72 per litre.

This price hike follows a period in November when petrol prices dropped slightly and diesel remained stable, contrary to earlier predictions of a general decrease for both fuel types.

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) had earlier predicted a decrease in fuel prices at the start of the second pricing window on November 16.

This projection was based on trends in the international market and the relatively favourable performance of the cedi during the period.

According to data from the energy think tank, petrol prices on the international market dropped from $723.03 per metric tonne to $676.64 per metric tonne.

The latest increment by Shell, however, signals a potential trend in fuel price adjustments four days into the commencement of the first pricing window in December.

Sam George mocks Bawumia over malfunctioning e-gate incident

The newly launched Ghana Card-enabled E-gate at Kotoka International Airport experienced an unexpected glitch during its inaugural use when it failed to open promptly for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

As the first person to test the system, the Vice President faced an awkward delay, waiting several minutes before the gate finally activated.

Reacting to the incident, Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George mocked the situation on Twitter, suggesting that the system’s failure highlighted the risks of rushing initiatives to score quick points. He described it as a classic case of how haste can lead to embarrassing outcomes.

He enquired if the airport did not carry out User Acceptance Testing on the system before allowing the Vice President to commission.

The incident has stirred a vibrant conversation online, with many discussing the effectiveness and readiness of the E-gate system. While some expressed concerns about the technical issues, supporters of the Vice President dismissed the mishap as a typical challenge with new technology during its initial stages.

The Ghana Card-enabled E-gate system is part of a broader initiative to modernise public services and position Ghana as a digital leader in Africa.

Despite the mixed reactions to the launch issue, advocates of the project remain optimistic, believing it will bring significant improvements once the system is fully operational.

I shouldn’t have taken help from a woman – Big Akwes tells a story of regret

Ghanaian Kumawood actor Big Akwes has expressed regrets for accepting help from a particular woman who once supported him during a life-threatening illness.

His regrets stem from the latter’s later attempt to ruin his reputation.

Speaking in an interview with Emelia Brobbey on Okukuseku the Talk Show, Big Akwes, he explained that during a period of severe illness and financial hardship, a woman came to his aid by purchasing medication and covering his medical expenses.

However, after his recovery and subsequent rise to fame, the same woman began spreading false claims, portraying herself as the sole reason for his survival.

“Some time ago, I was seriously ill in Kumasi. A young man along with a group of people came to visit me. They wanted to take me to the hospital the next day, but a man named Packer disagreed and insisted on taking me that same day. He cared for me for a week because I was financially unstable. After that, a woman decided to help and bought drugs for me

“She started tarnishing my image, saying that if not for her, I would be dead by now. I confronted her about it, and when I asked if she wanted the money she spent on me, she said no. That’s when I truly regretted accepting her help,” he added.

Reflecting on the painful experience, Big Akwes said that he no longer wants to receive help from anyone.

“I regret accepting her help. If I had to go through such a situation again, I’d rather die in peace than let someone rescue me just to later tarnish my name. What’s the point of helping someone if it only leads to this?” he queried.

Bullgod runs to court for everything because his house is close to one – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has slammed his former manager, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bullgod, for choosing to pursue court cases based on the proximity of one courthouse to his home.

This comes after a renewal of their legal dispute, which dates back to the last quarter of 2022 when Bulldog filed a defamation lawsuit against Shatta Wale. The lawsuit was a result of Shatta Wale threatening to expose Bulldog’s alleged involvement in the death of the late artist manager, Fennec Okyere.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with NY DJ on BTM Afrika, the “Gringo” hitmaker explained that the out-of-court settlement, which had been agreed upon by both parties, his team hasn’t settled because when they were ready, Bulldog was out of the country.

According to him, Bullgod was in court to enforce an out-of-court settlement agreement reached almost a year ago following the defamation lawsuit, citing that his former artist’s return to court is because his house is close to one.

He also revealed he believes Bullgod’s attempt to revisit the law courts is premised on malice.

“There’s no different cause of action. Bullgod just wants to take his money. He wasn’t in Ghana when we wanted to make payment. You see Bullgod, if this is the house, this is the court, so he wakes up and goes to the court anytime. When a chicken clucks, he goes to court. When a taxi driver toots the horn, he goes to court because his house is just close to the court,” he said.

    Background:

In the final quarter of 2022, Bullgod filed a defamation lawsuit against his former artist, Shatta Wale.

The lawsuit followed threats by the musician to reveal alleged secrets about Bullgod, including claims related to the death of the late artist manager, Fennec Okyere, among other accusations.

In March 2023, a year after the suit was filed, lawyers representing both parties agreed to settle the case out of court. Bullgod’s lawyer, Justice Srem Sai, disclosed this during a court appearance on Tuesday, March 7.

However, Shatta Wale has reportedly failed to fulfil his promise to pay the agreed legal fee of GH¢100,000 to Bullgod and his legal team.

  • Now I can relate with Mourinho’s anger – Essien talks his coaching experience

Now I can relate with Mourinho’s anger – Essien talks his coaching experience

Chelsea and Ghana football legend Michael Essien has acknowledged the challenges that come with coaching.

Widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation, Essien transitioned into coaching after a 20-year playing career. He received a call from Tom Vernon, the founder of one of Ghana’s top football academies, which led him to this new path.

Since 2020, Essien has served as the assistant coach for Danish top-flight club FC Nordsjaelland (FCN). He has said that his experience with former managers has been invaluable in shaping his coaching career.

In an interview with the BBC, the 2012 Champions League winner discussed how his coaching journey has deepened his understanding of the frustrations faced by Jose Mourinho.

“I had some great, great managers that I was lucky to work under. I learnt a few things from Jose and from Ancelotti—his calmness and how he manages his players, the way he tried to put his arms around his players. Now I understand a bit more why Jose would get angry,” Essien told the BBC.

Essien, however, has no immediate plans to leave Nordsjaelland in search of managerial opportunities but is also not ruling out the possibility of becoming a head coach in the future, as football has always been a central part of his life.

“I’m not thinking about being a head coach. Not yet. But when I get there, I will develop my style of play around the FCN model of what we’re doing here. I have a few more years to go. Let’s see. Maybe I will get there.

“When I was playing, I never thought I would jump into this journey. But coming to the end of my career, I was thinking one day, ‘I’ve done football my whole life, and I think that’s what I do best. I should start doing something just to keep my routine going,’” he further added.

Essien played 256 times for Chelsea, winning the FA Cup four times, the Premier League two times, then the Champions League and League Cup.

The next president of Ghana is Bawumia; it’s what God wants —Efia Odo

Ghanaian socialite Efia Odo has waded in on the recent trend of celebrities endorsing vice president and running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The socialite who recently announced her turn and surrendered to God with no interest in “the things of the world” in an X (formerly Twitter) shared God’s choice of Dr Bawumia as president of Ghana ahead of the 2024 polls happening on December 7.

According to her, Bawumia is “The next president of Ghana is Bawumia; it’s what God wants.”

This news has surprised many netizens, as several have criticised her for allegedly accepting a bribe to endorse the NPP’s candidate. Efia Odo is widely known for her vocal criticism of the current government.

Ghana goes to the polls on December 7, where all Ghanaians will vote massively for the country’s development.

  • Ghana to receive additional $360m as IMF completes third review, lauds economy’s stabilisation

Ghana to receive additional $360m as IMF completes third review, lauds economy’s stabilisation

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has successfully completed the third review of Ghana’s $3 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program, which began in May 2023.

This review clears the way for Ghana to receive an additional Special Drawing Rights (SDR) of 269.1 million, equivalent to about $360 million. With this latest disbursement, the total amount Ghana has received under the program now stands at approximately $1.9 billion.

The IMF acknowledged that Ghana’s efforts at economic reform and policy adjustments are yielding positive results. Deputy Managing Director Bo Li highlighted that the country’s economic plan is meeting its targets, with improvements noted in areas such as economic growth and fiscal management.

“The economy is showing clear signs of stabilisation,” Li said.

The program has provided a framework for macroeconomic policy adjustments and significant reforms aimed at restoring stability, ensuring debt sustainability, and fostering inclusive growth. Key achievements highlighted include:

    • Macroeconomic Recovery: Despite challenges, Ghana has seen rapid growth recovery, declining inflation (albeit slower than anticipated), and improved fiscal and external positions.
    • Public Debt Restructuring: Ghana successfully restructured its domestic debt and Eurobonds in line with program parameters. Engagements with external creditors for further restructuring remain ongoing.
    • Fiscal discipline: The government has achieved a primary surplus of 0.5% of GDP and is targeting a 1.5% surplus by 2025. These goals will rely on domestic revenue mobilisation, rationalising non-priority expenditures, and expanding social support programs for vulnerable groups.

The Bank of Ghana’s careful approach to monetary policy has helped lower inflation and rebuild the country’s international reserves.

To strengthen the financial sector, steps have been taken to support the recapitalisation of banks and improve the stability of both state-owned and private financial institutions.

Deputy Managing Director Bo Li stressed the need for Ghana to continue implementing reforms to address key challenges, particularly in areas like energy and cocoa. He also highlighted the importance of reinforcing the country’s fiscal policies for long-term stability.

“Staying the course of fiscal policy adjustment before and after the elections is paramount,” Li stressed, adding that this would support social programs and enhance the country’s economic resilience.

  • Domestic Airlines sees rise in passenger traffic ahead of the Dec 7 elections

Domestic Airlines sees rise in passenger traffic ahead of the Dec 7 elections

Domestic airlines are seeing a sharp increase in passenger numbers as many voters finalise their travel plans to return to their home constituencies as the December 7 elections draw near.

Airline operators have stepped up efforts to handle the growing demand and are preparing for an even higher surge in bookings as election day approaches.

Channel One News reports that airlines are playing a key role in transporting voters, election officials, and materials during this important time.

Captain Kwasi Oteng made the statement on December 2, 2024, during a press conference held at the Africa World Airlines (AWA) headquarters in Accra, Ghana. He addressed the media to discuss the airline’s preparedness for the increased air traffic expected during the election season and the upcoming festive period

“The increase in passenger traffic has already started; in the last couple of weeks, we have seen a significant rise in domestic travel around the country. So to manage that, we have actually made adjustments to our commercial schedule. This is something we are actually doing daily.

“With what we have noticed recently, we have actually adjusted the domestic schedule, for example, for Tamale. We go there three times a day; we are now increasing that to five times a day, and Kumasi presently we’re doing six a day; we’re increasing that to eight.”

Captain Oteng also highlighted the airline’s collaboration with the Ghana Airport Company Limited to ensure passenger safety remains uncompromised during this busy period.

“AWA has the highest safety records of operations in Ghana. We take safety very seriously, so as far as the present time versus the time of the elections, there’s no change. We have always operated on a safety level, and that is one hundred percent safety.”

Despite the airlines’ preparedness, a key challenge for voters who delay booking their flights lies in the limited operational hours of the Tamale and Kumasi airports, which do not currently provide 24-hour domestic flight services.

  • Speaker Bagbin recalls Parliament; sitting scheduled for Dec 16

Speaker Bagbin recalls Parliament; sitting scheduled for Dec 16

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has recalled the legislature for a sitting after previously suspending its sessions indefinitely.

In a notice dated December 2, 2024, he announced that Parliament will reconvene on Monday, December 16, 2024, to handle pressing legislative business.

This decision comes shortly after Bagbin rejected a request from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus for an emergency recall ahead of the December 7, 2024, general elections. Responding to the request in a memo dated November 26, 2024, the Speaker stated that reconvening Parliament so close to the elections would not align with the nation’s best interests.

He emphasised that the parliamentary calendar recognises election campaign periods as critical times when both the government and Members of Parliament engage with the public to present their manifestos and account for their stewardship.

“Pursuant to Order 58 of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, hereby give notice that the Seventh Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic shall commence on Monday, the 16th day of December 2024, at ten o’clock in the forenoon at a place to be appointed by the Speaker in due course,” the statement signed by the Speaker said.

Speaker Alban Bagbin recently turned down a request from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus to call Parliament back for an emergency sitting ahead of the December 7, 2024, general elections.

In a memo dated November 26, 2024, Bagbin explained that recalling Parliament so close to the elections would not serve the country’s best interest. He noted that this period is set aside for election campaigns, where both the government and Members of Parliament focus on engaging with citizens, sharing their plans, and being accountable for their time in office.

“Again, as you are aware, the parliamentary calendar acknowledges election campaign periods. This season is for the Government, Parties, and both presidential and parliamentary candidates to present their manifestos to the people and to account and justify how the mandate given them by the voters for the four-year term of office has been applied to the benefit of the people,” parts of the memo read.

Bagbin further noted that the proposed two days (November 28 and 29) suggested by the Leader of Government Business, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, would not be sufficient for the House to address the twenty-two urgent items on the agenda.

“It is worth noting that, having regard to the practice and deliberations of the House, I wonder how the proposed twenty-two items could be transacted within two days.

“The national interest would better be served if members exhibit conduct of honour, empathy, and humility in the performance of their duties. In the circumstances, I am neither inclined nor disposed to exercise my discretion in favour of your request. The request is accordingly declined,” he stated.

In conclusion, Alban Bagbin said, “The House will resume sitting after the elections to complete all essential matters before a seamless transition to the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.”

The Speaker’s response comes after the New Patriotic Party Caucus in Parliament appealed for an emergency recall to address pressing government business.

Saglemi Housing Project to be completed in 400 days – Quarm-LMI Consortium assures

Quarm-LMI Consortium, appointed by the government to complete the stalled Saglemi Housing Project, has pledged to complete the over 1,500 housing units within 400 days for public sale.

Managing Director of the consortium, Kofi Adabor Ofori-Amanfo, stated that thorough structural tests would be conducted to confirm the stability of the existing buildings. He also mentioned plans to rework parts of the structures to ensure they meet high safety and quality standards.

Speaking to the media after a visit to the Ningo Traditional Council, Mr. Ofori-Amanfo highlighted that the reengineering efforts aim to restore confidence in the project. The Saglemi Housing Project, initially intended to reduce Ghana’s housing deficit, has faced significant setbacks and controversies over the years.

“Tentatively, we are looking at around 400 days to make sure that the whole place is completed for sale to people. Currently, we inherited the shell structures. And some of them will go through structural integrity tests to make sure that we are not going to sell back to society, something that might just break within time.

“You know, this development has been left for more than seven years. A lot of them have gone through bad weather conditions. Some areas had some flooding that is prone to the environment there. So we need to do a lot of re-engineering over there.”

Elton John loses sight after a prolonged battle with infection

Music legend Elton John has opened up about a devastating health challenge, revealing he has lost his sight due to complications from a serious infection.

The 77-year-old shared this emotional update while performing at a charity event for The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical.

This unexpected disclosure has deeply moved his fans and admirers worldwide.

Speaking to the audience, John said, “As some of you may know, I have had issues, and now I have lost my sight.”

The shocking announcement comes days after he revealed losing eyesight in his right eye.

During the Sunday night gala, Sir Elton John addressed the audience, revealing, “As some of you may know, I have had issues, and now I have lost my sight.

I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed listening to it,” as reported by the BBC.

Sir Elton John even credited his husband, David Furnish, who was also at the event, for standing strong as a pillar and helping him navigate the ordeal.

“To my husband, who’s been my rock, because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews, as you know, I’ve lost my eyesight, so it’s hard for me to see them, but I love to hear them,” John continued. “And, boy, it sounded good tonight! OK! Thank you for coming!”

However, John reassured fans that he was undergoing treatment to improve his vision.

The Sacrifice singer is married to Canadian filmmaker David Furnish. The couple tied the knot in 2014, after being together for 31 years. Furnish, who co-directed the documentary Elton John: Never Too Late with R.J.
