2024 elections: Ghanaians rejected an oppressive govt – Ahmed Ibrahim

Member of Parliament for Banda, Ahmed Ibrahim, has stated that the results of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections reflect the people’s rejection of a government that caused hardship for its citizens.

He argued that Ghanaians voted out the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) because it became indifferent to the struggles of the people, acted recklessly, and ignored their concerns.

According to Ibrahim, the government’s failure to address the worsening living conditions led to widespread dissatisfaction, which was clearly reflected in the election results.

He shared these views during an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM’s Frontline program.

The lawmaker said, “First, I want to thank God for this victory and extend my gratitude to the people of Ghana for the massive endorsement they have given the NDC.

I am glad they chose good over evil. The Bible even states that he who knows good and chooses evil has sinned. So, this victory is divine.

We urged Ghanaians to assess their situation and vote accordingly, and clearly, they did. This outcome is unprecedented. The results of the elections will serve as a lesson to politicians: if you neglect and deprive the people, they will vote against you in a decisive manner.”

He further emphasised that the results place a significant responsibility on the incoming Mahama-led administration, making it imperative not to fail the Ghanaian people.

“I see this massive endorsement from the Ghanaian people as divine intervention from God. Nana Akufo-Addo’s core objective was to sell Ghana to his family. What was happening under his leadership was state capture—an attempt to treat the country as a private entity.

“However, Ghanaians prayed against it, and because God was also against it, He allowed the people to vote them out of power in such a decisive manner. The policy of state capture was not from God, and so He dismantled it and gave the NDC an absolute majority,” he concluded.

Mikel Arteta defends substituting Martin Ødegaard in Arsenal draw

Mikel Arteta has explained his decision to substitute Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard during their goalless draw with Everton, describing it as a tactical move.

Despite pushing for a goal, Arteta replaced the influential midfielder in the 62nd minute with teenager Ethan Nwaneri. Arsenal struggled to break through Everton’s defense, with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford making key saves to keep the game level.

The draw leaves Arsenal at risk of falling four points behind Chelsea in second place, should the Blues secure a win against Brentford on Sunday.

“With Martin it was a tactical decision to try to change their rhythm on that side,” Arteta said. “I understand. If Ethan comes in and he scores a goal, it’s a great goal.

If he doesn’t, you have taken your captain out. That’s football.”

Ødegaard was replaced in a double change along with Declan Rice, who Arteta revealed is managing a fitness issue.

“With Declan, I had to take him off because he was feeling something,” he continued. “At the end, this is football—the hardest thing is to do what we have to do in those last 20–25 minutes.
“Credit to them as well, the way they defended, the way they blocked shots, the saves that Pickford made, the shape that they defended with.

“Honestly, it’s difficult to ask something else from the team. OK, individually, can we do things a bit better and with a little bit more quality and deliver that magic moment when it’s necessary? Yes. But that is not easy.”

Marriage would be considered when I’m 30, but for now I want children – Kuami Eugene

Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has shared his thoughts on marriage and family in a recent interview on Joy Prime.

At 27, he believes marriage might become more relevant to him around the age of 30. For now, he feels no urgency to settle down.

Instead of focusing on marriage, Kuami Eugene revealed a strong interest in starting a family.

He expressed a desire for a large family, hoping to have between eight and ten children, provided his partner is on board with the idea.

At this stage in his life, he finds the idea of raising children more appealing than committing to marriage.

Eugene emphasised, “Because I am 27, I should get married? “It will start coming to me when I turn 30.”

“Actually, I prefer to have kids for now. I want to have many children. I want to have eight or ten if she can,” he added.

Video: This is how President-Elect Mahama explained his 24-hour economy policy to VOA

The next administration, under President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, plans to focus on the implementation of a 24-hour economy policy as a key strategy for economic recovery. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has highlighted this initiative as a key component to revitalise the country’s economy.

Public discussions about the policy have raised questions about its practicality and impact. As a result, Mahama frequently addresses its details during interviews, particularly with international media.

In a recent interview with the Voice of America (VOA) following his resounding victory in the 2024 elections, Mahama once again explained the concept and goals of the 24-Hour Economy policy.

Asked by the VOA reporter, Paul Ndiho, “One of the things that has resonated with the young people was the 24-Hour Economy. Do you care explaining what that means to the ordinary Ghanaians?” John Dramani Mahama said:

“24-Hour Economy is not a new thing. It’s being implemented in many countries, and so Ghana will not be the first to implement it. What the 24-Hour Economy is is that you provide incentives to the private sector to be able to increase their production, increase the number of working hours, and increase the number of employees. That is what it is.”

Meanwhile, John Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy has faced significant backlash and criticism, particularly from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Critics within the NPP, including Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, have argued that the policy is impractical and already being implemented by some institutions, thus downplaying its impact.

Popular YouTuber Kwadwo Sheldon, a known supporter of the NPP, also criticised the policy, questioning its feasibility and the understanding of its proponents. Additionally, Joe Jackson, Director of Business Operations at Dalex Finance, expressed reservations about the policy, emphasising that effective implementation hinges on fostering a conducive business environment.

2024 polls: Appalud IGP; his security arrangement saved Ghana – NPP’s Ohene Ntow

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary Nana Ohene Ntow has praised the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for the exceptional security arrangements during the December 7 elections. He noted that the IGP’s comprehensive plan ensured the country’s safety and prevented potential disruptions.

Speaking on TV3 on Saturday, December 14, Nana Ohene Ntow emphasised that the IGP demonstrated boldness and expertise despite the immense pressure surrounding the elections.

He added that political parties were impressed with the effective measures put in place. Nana Ohene Ntow urged Ghanaians to commend the IGP for his efforts in maintaining peace and order during the polls.

“To be frank, Ghanaians must stand up for Dampare. His security arrangements and strategic planning saved this country. But for him and his team, this country would have probably tipped over.

We saw how some recalcitrant soldiers behaved, but Dampare insisted that the only time the military would be officially deployed would be under his instruction, and he stayed committed to his promise. God bless him for the work he did,” Nana Ohene Ntow noted.

He urged Ghanaians to commend leaders when they leave above expectation, just as they condemn leaders who underperform.

Meanwhile, Professor Ransford Gyampo, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has defended the IGP against recent criticisms by ACP Dr Benjamin Agordzo, describing the comments as unwarranted and unfair.

Speaking on Thursday, Professor Gyampo commended the IGP for his transformative leadership of the Ghana Police Service, which he believes has significantly elevated the institution’s reputation and effectiveness.

“The above is unfair and unfortunate. Respectfully, even though there’s freedom of speech, it doesn’t lie in the mouth of my respected retired police officer to be saying these,” Professor Gyampo remarked.

He stressed Dr Dampare’s achievements, including his resilience in office despite challenges, his unwavering commitment to fairness during the recent elections, and his bold defiance of orders that conflicted with his principles as a law enforcement officer.

Professor Gyampo credited the IGP with changing the face of policing in Ghana, noting that he has garnered widespread praise, including from opposition parties, for his impartiality and professionalism.

“This is the only IGP who has survived the plot of removal by his appointing authority for doing his work well. He is the only IGP who could stop the planned massive deployment of soldiers to confuse some voting centres in the just-ended elections,” he stated, adding that Dampare’s reforms have been widely felt across the country.

We will do all we can to keep Free SHS policy – Mahama assures

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his dedication to preserving Ghana’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy. He rejected claims that his administration intends to abolish it, labelling such assertions as baseless propaganda from officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the election campaign.

In an interview with Voice of America (VOA), Mahama clarified that these allegations were politically motivated and lacked any factual basis.

“Free SHS has come to stay, and it is not going anywhere,” Mahama stated. “Nobody is going to scrap Free SHS. What was said was political talk and gimmickry. We are going to maintain it. What we are going to do is get dedicated funding for it.”

    The Free SHS Policy

The Free SHS program, introduced in 2017 under the Akufo-Addo administration, offers free education, boarding, and meals to students in public senior high schools. It has opened doors for many Ghanaian youths, particularly those from disadvantaged communities, to access secondary education.

Despite its successes, the program has faced issues such as overcrowded classrooms, insufficient facilities, and delays in releasing funds, which have affected its effectiveness.

John Mahama has expressed his commitment to maintaining the core benefits of the Free SHS policy while tackling these challenges. His plans involve ensuring a reliable funding system to reduce financial pressures and enhance the quality of education provided under the initiative.

    Mahama’s Resounding Victory

John Mahama emphasised his dedication to maintaining the Free SHS program during his campaign, a message that resonated with many Ghanaians concerned about equal access to education. His decisive victory in the December 7 elections reaffirmed public support for his vision.

The Electoral Commission announced Mahama as the winner with 6,328,397 votes, or 56.55% of the total valid votes cast. He defeated his closest contender, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, who secured 4,657,304 votes, amounting to 41.61%.

This marks Mahama’s return to the presidency, having previously led Ghana from 2012 to 2017. His campaign highlighted priorities such as reviving the economy, tackling corruption, and enhancing social programs, particularly in education and healthcare.

During the elections, the Free SHS policy was a controversial topic, with the NPP claiming Mahama would abolish it. However, Mahama refuted these claims, aiming to reassure parents and students who have benefitted from the initiative. He pledged to collaborate with education stakeholders to review and improve the policy, ensuring its sustainable and effective implementation.

  • We didn’t communicate transparently, properly about the project – Miracles Aboagye on National Cathedral

We didn’t communicate transparently, properly about the project – Miracles Aboagye on National Cathedral

The future of the National Cathedral project remains unclear, even after the government has spent over GHC 339 million, with construction still at the foundation stage.

Allegations of financial mismanagement and embezzlement have also surfaced, implicating individuals connected to the project.

Initially, President Nana Akufo-Addo assured Ghanaians that the project would be funded through private sector contributions. However, it was later revealed that public funds were being used, sparking criticism and controversy.

spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, addressed the issue during an interview on Joy News’ Newsfile program on December 14.

He attributed the project’s setbacks to the government’s failure to communicate transparently about the use of state funds. According to Mr. Aboagye, the controversy could have been avoided if the government had been upfront from the beginning.

“Communication around such things is very important. I’m sure that what the government, or the Finance Minister who I heard repeatedly promoting this project, should have communicated from the beginning is that, even though funds will be raised from private individuals and corporate organisations, we need to start.

We need to demolish and prepare the site, and for that reason, the government will provide some seed money. But that is not going to be the funding to actually execute the project. If we had communicated this properly, we wouldn’t be where we are now,” he explained.

He added, “I don’t think the communication was handled correctly, and when that happens, you allow your detractors to take advantage and lead the conversation.”

The building of the Cathedral was in fulfilment of a supposed promise President Akufo-Addo claimed to have made to God before winning the 2016 elections.

In 2019, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, stated that the construction of the National Cathedral was estimated to cost over $100 million.

Amid the controversies surrounding the development, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), after investigating the case, recommended that the Auditor General conduct a forensic audit of the project to determine what went wrong and possibly prosecute those found to have committed any wrongdoing.

Dag Heward-Mills, Anglican bishops, were used by the NPP to bring Alan back – Appiah Kubi recounts

Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has revealed how some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) tried unsuccessfully to persuade Alan Kyerematen to return to the party.

He revealed that NPP MPs reached out to key figures close to Alan, including the founder of Lighthouse Group of Churches (formerly Lighthouse Chapel International), Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, Anglican bishops, and other influential individuals, hoping they could convince him to come back.

Despite their persistent efforts, Alan, now leader of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC), refused to reconsider.

In an interview with JoyNews, Appiah-Kubi explained that Alan’s departure left many voters in the Ashanti Region dissatisfied, contributing to the NPP’s significant loss in the 2024 general elections.

“The people of the Ashanti Region are likely to vote for the NDC because they are hurt. Myself and other colleagues took it upon ourselves to go and see Bishop Heward-Mills, Anglican bishops, and other prominent people who were close to Alan in an attempt to bring him back to the party, but our efforts were not successful.

“It was not that he was indispensable, but it was a necessary effort. Some people in Kumasi always supported Alan, and if they are unhappy with the situation, they will not come out to vote,” he said.

Meanwhile, Alan exited the NPP after losing in the party’s primaries to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, from where he formed his own political movement.

In the 2024 Election, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, emerged as the winner, garnering 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55%, while the New Patriotic Party Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, finished second with 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.

The NPP also lost most of their parliamentary seats, with some of their bigwigs like KT Hammond, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and Henry Quartey being major victims.

Dr Bawumia struggles to make decisions – Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe

Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has stated that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has difficulty making decisions. This comes despite the praise he has received for showing statesmanship by accepting defeat in the December 2024 elections.

Speaking to TV3 on Friday, December 14, 2024, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe remarked, “Bawumia is a disciplined and respectful gentleman, but his major weakness is that he cannot make decisions.”

Reflecting on his early association with Dr. Bawumia’s career, he shared details of his role in mentoring the Vice President.

“When Akufo-Addo decided to run with Bawumia…, he handed him over to me and the late former Vice President Aliu Mahama. We worked closely with him, and while he was a nice gentleman, he struggled to make decisions,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe alleged.

    Contrasting opinions within the NPP

Despite these criticisms, Dr. Bawumia has received support from other prominent NPP figures, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who has praised Bawumia’s leadership qualities and how he has rose through the ranks as a politician.

“Bawumia has been well-prepared, and I think his preparation makes him unique for the position,” President Kufuor stated.

Dr. Bawumia began his political journey in 2008 as the NPP’s vice presidential candidate. Over the years, he has evolved from being seen as a technocrat to becoming a strong and influential political leader. His flexibility and impact within the NPP have gained him respect from party members and political analysts.

    Critique of the 2024 Elections

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe believes that Dr. Bawumia struggles with making decisions. He pointed out that this was clear during the 2024 elections, where Bawumia seemed limited by party rules and outside pressures.

“Leadership requires decisiveness,” he said. “And unfortunately, he didn’t demonstrate that ability.”

Nonetheless, Dr. Bawumia’s concession after the election has received widespread praise, both locally and internationally, as a mark of political maturity and good leadership.

Bawumia paid for ‘sins’ he didn’t commit – Miracles Aboagye

Spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 election campaign, Miracles Denis Aboagye, has claimed that the Vice President lost the election due to circumstances beyond his control, not because of his own actions.

Mr. Aboagye explained that many people believe Dr. Bawumia was a victim of the situation and not unfit for leadership. This has led to widespread sympathy for the Vice President following last week’s election results.

“One of the things that are quite clear in these conversations is that everybody seems to sympathise with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a candidate who is a victim of circumstances,” he said.

Aboagye explained, “It’s as if sins were brought upon him, which he had no control over, at a time when he was pursuing his own mission.”

He added that Dr Bawumia now has a responsibility to reach out to the masses and explain the circumstances surrounding his defeat in the 2024 election.

“He has a responsibility at this point to reach out to these people and say, ‘I understand you have punished me for these things, but shall we have a conversation?

Shall we talk to see if we can heal these wounds and find a common path forward into the future?”.

Despite the disastrous defeat in Saturday’s polls, Aboagye stated that Dr Bawumia’s qualities remain unquestionable, saying, “His capability, his ability, his level of innovation, and the fact that he is the leader this country needs are not in doubt. But sometimes you can find yourself in the right place at the wrong time,” he noted.

“He is essentially being punished for a lot of sins he did not commit,” he emphasised regarding the Vice President’s defeat.

In last week’s election, Dr. Bawumia of the NPP received 4,657,304 votes out of 11,191,422 valid votes cast, while Mr. John Mahama of the NDC won with 6,328,397 votes, achieving a decisive victory.

Former President John Mahama, now President-elect, and his team have started the transition process to prepare for his swearing-in on January 7, 2025, as the Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administrations come to an end.

NDC will investigate all political violence since 2016 – Asiedu Nketia

National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has promised to tackle political violence that has troubled the nation since 2016.

During a press briefing, he pledged that an NDC government would investigate such incidents thoroughly and ensure those responsible face justice.

“All this violence, right from 2016 to date, will be properly investigated, and our electoral system and democracy will be cleaned of these violent things,” he stated emphatically.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia specifically called out Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, urging him to focus on addressing alleged violent actions linked to his party’s parliamentary candidates and members.

“He [Afenyo Markin] should go back to his region and take stock of his parliamentary candidates who have been shooting and killing people, his party people, who have been shooting and maiming people across the country,” Mr. Nketia said.

He firmly cautioned anyone planning to misuse their power in the final weeks before the elections, assuring that an NDC government would hold them accountable.

“Anybody who is thinking about abusing these three weeks, abusing his power during these three weeks to create any problem, must know that there will be consequences for him after they take over,” he cautioned.

NPP’s Appiah-Kubi charges Mahama to set up a committee to probe all public resources

The outgoing Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has urged President-elect John Mahama to set up a committee to look into how public lands are allocated and distributed.

“I request the setting up of a committee to investigate all public lands and their distribution. he stated on GHOne TV with Serwaa Amihere.

He critiqued the issues surrounding public resource management.

“Sometimes it’s not just about the clearance; it’s about the philosophy of living. We have established a philosophy. It may not necessarily mean putting someone in opposition or government, but people become too pompous with power and misapply or misuse public space, funds, and property. Let’s move away from such behaviour,” he said.

Mr. Appiah-Kubi emphasised the importance of integrity in leadership and the need to discourage the culture of exploiting public office for personal gain.

“We don’t make money in government; let’s make money in the private sector,” he remarked.

In addition, Appiah-Kubi proposed a comprehensive review of all natural resource contracts in Ghana.

He underscored the urgency of this measure by highlighting the nation’s missed opportunities due to poor resource management.

“And again, I want us to review all natural resource contracts in Ghana

“The way to get out of poverty is to look back at what we are losing, stop the looting, and benefit from our resources. How can you expect a country to be resourceful when you’re giving away our resources for free?” he questioned.

EC declares Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, 2 other Parliamentary declarations illegal

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the parliamentary results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central constituencies are invalid and cannot be upheld.

Samuel Tettey, the Deputy EC Chair for Operations, shared this update at a press briefing in Accra on Friday.

Tettey explained that out of the 12 constituencies needing re-collation of results, three—Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North—have been successfully completed. However, re-collation is still pending for Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, and Techiman South.

“It is important to note that the re-collation in the following constituencies, namely Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central, did not follow laid-down processes as enshrined in CI 127 despite police presence at the collation centres to enable the commission staff to undertake the re-collation.

“The centres were again besieged by party supporters who took over the process and forced out staff to declare results of their preferred candidates,” Tettey stated.

He further emphasised that in all four instances, the process of CI 127 was not followed, and EC officers were threatened to declare winners without adhering to the required procedures.

“It is therefore the conclusion of the commission that the collation and declarations that did not follow laid down procedures are illegal and cannot be upheld by the commission since the processes for collation and declaration as set out in CI 127 were violated and not followed,” he added.

Low voter turn-out of NPP members reason for our defeat – Miracles Aboagye

Director of Communications for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 general elections, Miracles Aboagye, has reiterated assertions that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 general election due to low voter turnout among its members.

Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile a week after the general election, Aboagye explained that, based on the party’s data from previous elections, it was clear that most of their members failed to vote on December 7.

“One of the key reasons this result is as it is, according to the data, is that our people didn’t turn out to vote, and that is the fact,” he said.

He highlighted the voting statistics in various regions, stating, “The data is there. If you put emotions aside and analyse it across all the regions: In 2020, the NPP had 145,000 votes in the Ahafo region; in 2024, we had 113,000.

The NDC had 116,000 in 2020 and 130,000 in 2024. In Greater Accra, the NPP had 1,253,179 votes in 2020, and the NDC had 1,326,489. But in 2024, the NPP had only 681,000, which is half of what we achieved in 2020.”

Aboagye explained that the NPP’s loss was mainly due to low voter turnout, with no other major factors contributing to the defeat. He pointed out that NPP members who didn’t vote should not be seen as supporters of John Mahama and the NDC.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s flagbearer and Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, has said the loss was due to a sharp decline in the party’s vote share. He argued that the NDC did not win the election outright, as their results in 2024 were almost the same as in 2020.

“I want to encourage you all to see that we handed this election over to the NDC; they didn’t win it outright. Their numbers didn’t change from 2020. Ours have dropped by 40%, so the analysis is simple,” he stated.

He, however, noted that the NPP aims to return strongly in future elections.

NSA secures another injunction against The Fourth Estate’s exposé

National Service Authority (NSA) has gone to court for the second time, seeking to secure another injunction to prevent The Fourth Estate from publishing a series of investigative stories scheduled for release this month.

The officials of the Authority say should the court allow the Media Foundation for West Africa’s accountability journalism project, The Fourth Estate, to publish an investigation it conducted into its activities without hearing its side of the story, it would suffer “irreparable harm.”

“That the reputations of the applicant [NSA] and its management will be soiled if the respondents [MFWA and others] are allowed to proceed with their threatened publication, and if it later turns out to be a false story, the injury and reputational damage occasioned cannot be reversed,” the NSA prayed the court.

The Fourth Estate has made several attempts to engage with officials from the National Security Authority (NSA) by sending official letters, meeting in person, and making phone calls to offer them a chance to respond to the investigative findings.

Despite these efforts, NSA officials have delayed and instead turned to legal action to stop the publications.

On December 2, 2024, just 12 hours before the first report was set to be published, a court bailiff served an injunction to the Media Foundation for West Africa, the organization behind The Fourth Estate. The injunction was filed by the NSA, blocking the publication of the investigative reports.

The 10-day injunction ended on December 12, 2024, but the NSA has gone back to court, seeking further legal action. This time, they are asking the court to stop The Fourth Estate from publishing the reports on social media, newspapers, or any other platforms until the NSA is included in the process.

The NSA officials also want the court to order The Fourth Estate to retract its yet-to-be-published report on all social media platforms or newspapers.

They also want The Fourth Estate to bear the cost of the litigation.

Police confirms arrest of 123 persons in recent election-related incidents; 49 processed for court

Ghana Police Service has announced that 123 people have been arrested in relation to election-related incidents.

In a statement released on December 12, 2024, the Police provided an update on the current security situation in the country.

“The Police wish to inform the public that the 123 persons so far arrested are being taken through the due process of the law,” the statement read.

The Ghana Police Service, collaborating with various security agencies through the National Election Security Taskforce, is working diligently to maintain peace.

“The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with other security agencies under the National Election Security Taskforce, continues to provide security to ensure that Ghana remains at peace with itself,” they affirmed.

“Over the past 24 hours, there has not been any major security incident across the country. We urge the public to continue to go about their normal socio-economic activities as the Police continue to implement stringent security measures to ensure their safety and protect their properties,” the Police stated.

Legal actions have been initiated out of the 123 arrests: “Out of the total number of suspects arrested, 49 have been processed for court, with 16 granted court bail, while 33 have been remanded into Police and Prisons custody to reappear on later dates.”

Additionally, the statement detailed, “Additionally, 70 suspects have been granted Police Inquiry Bail in compliance with the constitutional requirement to process suspects for court within 48 hours.”

We, therefore, urge the public to disregard the misinformation and disinformation regarding his whereabouts.”

Martha Ankomah-LilWin’s case adjourned to Feb 25 as plaintiff rejects defendant’s public apology

Actress Martha Ankomah has reportedly rejected Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah’s, also known as LilWin’s, public apology in the GH¢5 million defamation lawsuit currently before the High Court.

According to EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, the actress felt the apology did not meet the standards of a proper retraction and sincere apology.

As discussions to resolve the matter out of court continue, it is likely that a new and acceptable public apology will be issued.

The High Court in Accra has adjourned the case to February 25, 2025, to allow both parties to finalise the terms of their settlement.

The case was held in private on Friday, December 13, 2024, and lasted nearly three hours as the parties and their lawyers worked on an amicable resolution. Both Martha Ankomah and LilWin were present in court with their legal representatives.

The issue began on February 14, 2024, when Martha Ankomah filed a defamation lawsuit against LilWin. She accused the actor of making offensive and damaging remarks about her in a viral video. In the video, LilWin allegedly insulted the actress and dismissed her significance in the film industry.

Martha is seeking GH¢5 million in damages, along with a public apology and retraction of the defamatory comments with the same level of attention the original remarks received.

“Damages in the sum of GH¢5 million for the defamatory statements made by the defendant. Compensatory damages for the damage done to the reputation of the plaintiff.

“Aggravated damages for the reckless and malicious publication of the defamatory words. An order directing the defendant to publish an apology and a retraction of the said defamatory words with the same prominence,” the plaintiff seeks from the court.

LilWin and his lawyers have since entered an appearance while the parties are considering an out-court settlement.

  • NDC was not notified about collation of election results at Tesano Police Depot – Asiedu Nketia

NDC was not notified about collation of election results at Tesano Police Depot – Asiedu Nketia

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has said the party was not informed about plans to re-collate election results for some constituencies at the Tesano Police Depot.

Speaking to the media on Friday, December 13, 2024, he explained that the party’s leaders had no prior agreement with the Electoral Commission (EC) on the collation or recollation of parliamentary results for the unresolved constituencies.

He accused EC officials of acting unlawfully and promised that the party would take steps to ensure the law is followed.

“What we are seeing in the Police Training Depot, of which we are yet to find out what was happening there because that meeting was called without any discussions with us as leadership of the National Democratic Congress.

For some of us, when asked by our officials in the constituencies, we told them plainly that we didn’t have any notice about it and we are not involved. In fact, I advised some of them not to appear,” he stated.

The NDC has announced that it will take legal action to resolve the issue peacefully and prevent any tension from rising.

The party has already filed for a court order to stop the re-collation of results at the Tesano Police Depot.

“We don’t want to engage in anything that will escalate tension so we have proceeded to court to apply injunction to put on hold the process that is happening over there,” he added.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia advised EC officials engaged in the process to desist or face consequences.

Govt’s Transition Team rejects NDC’s accusation of illegal last-minute recruitment, payment

The government’s Transition Team has denied allegations of wrongdoing in recent recruitment and payment activities by the outgoing administration.

This response came after President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Transition Team raised concerns about last-minute actions by the government.

In a statement issued on Friday, December 13, the team explained that both sides had agreed that any major payments, recruitment, or similar activities would be reviewed by the Transition Team on a case-by-case basis.

However, the government’s Transition Team rejected claims of irregularities, stating that all recruitment processes followed legal procedures and received the required approvals.

“Any specific allegation of illegality regarding any particular payment or recruitment should be brought to the attention of the Transition Team for a decision to be made,” stated Fatimatu Abubakar, spokesperson for the Government’s Team, on Friday.

She asked the public to ignore rumours that the committee had stopped all payments and recruitment, calling those claims untrue.

Fatimatu Abubakar assured everyone that the outgoing government is dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition.

“We remain committed to passing the baton to the incoming government on 7 January 2025,” she reiterated.

  • Don’t watch NPP collapse; we need a vibrant opposition to keep the government in check

Don’t watch NPP collapse; we need a vibrant opposition to keep the government in check

University of Ghana Professor Ransford Gyampo has emphasized the importance of keeping the New Patriotic Party (NPP) united after their loss in the 2024 elections.

He believes Ghana needs a strong opposition to hold the government accountable.

To achieve this, he has suggested removing the current NPP executives, claiming they were influenced by President Akufo-Addo.

“Let me call on the owners of the NPP to rescue the party from the claws of Akufo-Addo and the entire executive of the party.

“They have to stop the imminent disintegration of the party because we need a strong opposition to keep the government on its toes.

“The party risks disintegrating if people do not come together to take the party from the claws of Akufo-Addo and his remnants, kick all the executives of the NPP and let the party restore its own tradition,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, December 14.

Meanwhile, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate to the NPP Flagbearer in the 2024 elections, has expressed disappointment in the party’s loss in the December 7 polls.

He emphasized the need for the party to reflect on the reasons behind the outcome to bounce back stronger.
“I have had extensive discussions with our flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to reflect on the outcome of the elections and, in good time, we shall reflect further as a political party on the causes of our 2024 election loss,” Dr. Prempeh stated.

Following the party’s significant loss in the elections, many have interpreted the results as a reflection of Ghanaians’ verdict on Akufo-Addo’s governance.

Despite this, Dr. Prempeh remains confident that the NPP will “emerge stronger and bounce back to win the trust, confidence, support, and affection of Ghanaians.”

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh in a statement on December 11, 2024 explained that the party did not expect this monumental loss in the 2024 elections.

“The 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections resulted in a vic tory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This was not the outcome we, in the NPP, envisaged; but we respect the verdict of the Ghanaian people.

“To Ghanaians, we have heard you clearly and with humility we accept. We will work with you to get it right,” he stated.

  • Ken Agyapong part of NPP’s is partly to be blamed for NPP’s defeat – UG political scientist

Ken Agyapong part of NPP’s is partly to be blamed for NPP’s defeat – UG political scientist

Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah Asante, has said that Ken Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, played a role in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the recent elections.

Speaking on Neat FM, he explained that Ken Agyapong’s comments during the NPP’s presidential primaries were used by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to weaken the NPP’s campaign, contributing to their defeat.

“During the NPP presidential primary, Ken Agyapong launched a series of scathing attacks on Dr. Bawumia, the incumbent Vice President and his competitor. He highlighted many issues he found wrong with the government. While he is known for his candour, in politics, such criticisms, if not managed carefully, can arm opponents.

His comments became a weapon for the NDC in the recent elections. For instance, he claimed that the NPP had already lost the election in 2022 when the government implemented haircuts on investments. He also stated that during his tours across the country, he did not see factories established under the much-touted ‘One District, One Factory’ (1D1F) program. Additionally, he accused the government of looting state resources with impunity and criticized the drastic depreciation of the Cedi from 1$ to GH¢4.00 to 1$ to GH¢16.00,” Dr. Asah Asante noted.

He added that his earlier caution to the contestants to be mindful of their utterances was ignored.

“I remember cautioning that the NPP presidential primary was an internal affair, and the candidates needed to be mindful of their remarks to avoid damaging their own party after the contest. Unfortunately, my advice was not heeded. After Dr. Bawumia emerged as the winner, Ken Agyapong could not fully support his campaign because of the numerous critical statements he had made against him. These statements were later exploited by the opposition to campaign against the government, ultimately leading to the party’s defeat,” Dr. Asah Asante explained.

The NPP suffered its worst defeat in elections since the Fourth Republic in the general elections held on December 7, 2024.

The Electoral Commission, on December 9, 2024, declared John Dramani Mahama the winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election.

Based on results declared from 267 constituencies, excluding nine constituencies, Mr. Mahama garnered 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of valid votes cast, to defeat the current Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61% of valid votes cast.

The declaration was based on results from 267 constituencies, excluding nine constituencies where results were still outstanding.

However, the Electoral Commission noted that even if all the votes from these nine constituencies were allocated to Dr. Bawumia, it would not significantly change the outcome in his favor.

I’m going to Parliament for the people of Gomoa Central; I’m not there for creative industry – A Plus

Ghanaian musician and newly elected Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame A Plus, has stated that his top priority as an MP will be to serve the needs of his constituents.

A Plus clarified that his role in Parliament is to address the challenges faced by the people of Gomoa Central, not to push for the interests of the entertainment industry. He emphasised that his mandate comes from the voters in his constituency, and he intends to honour their trust by focusing on development and welfare.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, A Plus stated, “I don’t want anyone to think that Kwame A Plus is going to Parliament to fight for the interests of the entertainment industry. That is not my business there; my interest is to work and bring satisfaction to the people of Gomoa Central who voted massively for me because of the confidence they have in me.”

He pointed out that no creative industry group supported his campaign, highlighting that his election was driven by the trust and votes of his constituents.

“No creative industry person or group put me in Parliament. When I was contesting, there wasn’t any word of support from the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), or any creative group to rally support for me.

It was just a few of my friends in the industry who solidly stood by me throughout. So nobody should tell me I’m representing the creative industry; I’m going to Parliament to serve the interests of the people of Gomoa Central,” he said.

A Plus also suggested that industry players should heed the advice of fellow musician Shatta Wale, who has been vocal about the needs of the creative industry. “Shatt a Wale has been talking too much sense. They should go and listen to what he says; I know it will help them,” he added.

A Plus secured the parliamentary seat for Gomoa Central with 14,277 votes. He defeated the incumbent MP from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Naana Eyiah Quansah, by a margin of 2,640 votes.

Reflecting on his journey, A Plus shared how he prepared for his political career by pursuing higher education. “I went back to have a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s and an LLB. I armed myself with some requisite knowledge, and I’m glad of the outcome today,” he stated.

She accused her housemaid of stealing her belongings, including $10,000 in cash, before running away.

Sarah said she returned to find her room in disarray and immediately suspected foul play.

After reviewing CCTV footage from her estate’s control room, she discovered that her neighbour had used his access card to help the maid leave the estate after security initially stopped her.

She has since confronted the neighbor and involved the police to help track down the maid and recover her stolen money.

  • I gave Kyekyeku $2,000 from my heart, but he still hurt me

I gave Kyekyeku $2,000 from my heart, but he still hurt me

Ghanaian actress Tracey Boakye expressed her frustration on TikTok Live, accusing her junior colleague Kyekyeku of being ungrateful despite her support.

In 2021, Tracey invited Kyekyeku to her home after seeing a video of him praising her. She gave him $2,000 to help his career, a gesture that received mixed reactions online.

However, Tracey revealed that Kyekyeku has since distanced himself, ignored her calls, and refused to cooperate on the sequel of her movie Stubborn Ghost, despite being paid for his role in the first part.

She expressed disappointment, saying her kindness has been met with ingratitude as Kyekyeku continues to work on other productions while avoiding her.

“Back in 2021, a senior colleague of mine sent me a video of Kyekyeku praising me in a movie scene. I posted it on Instagram, and my colleague encouraged me to help him. So, I invited him over, even though I didn’t know him personally, and I gave him $2,000. I didn’t do it for clout or attention; I did it from my heart. But this has really hurt me,” Tracey explained in the live session. “Since then, how many times have you seen Kyekyeku in my movies?”

She continued, “I called Kyekyeku again for my Stubborn Ghost project. Even though he had disappointed me before, like three times, we shot the movie, and it was a hit. So, I wanted to do part two. But when the time came to shoot, he completely ignored me. I texted, I called, and nothing.

I even have the messages to prove it; when you read them, you will cry for me. I paid him for the role he played, just as I would any other actor. I didn’t say, ‘I already gave him $2,000, so he doesn’t need to be paid.’ What hurts the most is that I’ve come to realise this behaviour is deliberate.”

Tracey went on to express her concerns about the impact of Kyekyeku’s actions on her work.

“What if I was relying on movies as my only business? Wouldn’t my investment go down the drain because of him? This isn’t about trends or attention; I am genuinely hurt. You can tell I’m even crying; forgive me,” she said, visibly emotional.

She urged her followers to learn from her experience, stressing that one should never repay kindness with ungratefulness.

“Let’s learn from this. I’m sharing my story so others can understand that if someone does you good, you should not repay them with evil. Kyekyeku’s actions have hurt me deeply. People are now mocking me, especially those who didn’t like the fact that I gave him $2,000. They warned me not to help him, but I didn’t listen. Now, they’re laughing at me,” she added.

Tracey Boakye’s video has stirred mixed reactions online, with many supporting her and others criticizing Kyekyeku for being ungrateful.

She ended her live session by encouraging people to treat everyone with kindness and respect, no matter their position in life.

They all cheat on me – Tiwa Savage on relationships in latest interview

Award-winning Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, revealed a surprising view on relationships, saying cheating wouldn’t end things for her.

During an appearance on the Receipts Podcast on Spotify, the “African Bad Gyal” shared that every partner she has been with has cheated on her.

Despite this, Tiwa said she has forgiven them all and moved past the pain they caused.

“I’ve been cheated on before. I found out and forgave every time. Every man I’ve ever been with has cheated, and I’ve never left them because of it. I’ve left for other reasons, but not because they cheated. Cheating is not my hill,” Tiwa revealed.

The singer also argued that cheating has long been part of societal dynamics, stating, “I know you say it’s bad that we’ve gotten to a point where cheating isn’t a deal-breaker. But I feel like we’ve always been here—even back in the day, even going back to the Bible and history.”

Tiwa Savage explained that while she can overlook cheating, she won’t accept dishonesty, disrespect, abuse, or theft in a relationship.

  • Man City reports a record-breaking Premier League revenue of £715 m

Man City reports a record-breaking Premier League revenue of £715 m

Manchester City have reported a Premier League record revenue of £715 million in their financial results for the year ending 30 June 2024.

Despite falling short of replicating their historic 2023 Treble, City’s achievements, including a fourth consecutive English league title, and wins in the Club World Cup and European Super Cup, drove a revenue increase of £2.2 million from their previous record of £712.8 million.

The club’s wage bill decreased by £10.3 million to £412.6 million, contributing to a pre-tax profit of £73.8 million. Commercial revenue also saw a slight rise, growing from £341.4 million to £344.7 million.

City have maintained profitability in every season since 2014-15, except for the Covid-affected 2019-20 season. Additionally, they announced a £92.8 million profit from transfers since June, including the sales of Julian Alvarez, Joao Cancelo, and Liam Delap.

This strong financial position provides City with the flexibility to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s squad in the upcoming transfer window, following a challenging period of just one win in their last 10 games.

“Our constant ambition to target and achieve the unprecedented is a mark of the organisation that we have be come,” noted City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak in his assessment, which was written before the club’s worst run under Guardiola.

“On and off the field, our passion for the next challenge is underpinned by deliberate and detailed planning and a shared belief in the collaborative learning culture that we have built.

“This organisational approach is now part of our DNA. It is a product of the unwavering focus on constant improvement, in every aspect of the organisation, that has been in place since His Highness Sheikh Mansour became the club’s custodian in 2008.”

That belief is being tested like never before.

The Champions League defeat by Juventus on Wednesday has left City at very real risk of missing out on a play-off place. Winning the tournament in 2023 earned City £111.8m from that competition alone.

They go into Sunday’s Manchester derby with United at Etihad Stadium fourth in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.

“Winning the Treble in the previous season did not generate any sense of complacency in our teams on or off the pitch,” said chief executive Ferran Soriano.

“We understand very well that the relentless pursuit of beautiful football, operational excellence, and constant innovation requires hard work and resilience.”

The accounts make no reference to City’s recent battle with the Premier League over the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, and only a fleeting reference to City’s ongoing case with the Premier League over 115 alleged breaches of financial rules.

  • Speaker announces venue for next sitting of Parliament

Speaker announces venue for next sitting of Parliament

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced that the House will meet at the Grand Arena at the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday, December 16, 2024.

He shared this in a statement issued on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

“Pursuant to the notice dated December 2 2024, summoning Parliament, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, do hereby appoint the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Centre, as the place of meeting,” the statement said.

In an earlier notice dated December 2, 2024, the Speaker announced that the House would reconvene on Monday, December 16, 2024, to conduct business.

“Pursuant to Order 58 of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, hereby give notice that the Seventh Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic shall commence on Monday, the 16th day of December 2024, at ten o’clock in the forenoon at a place to be appointed by the Speaker in due course,” the statement signed by the Speaker said.

The Speaker’s announcement came shortly after he rejected a request from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus to recall Parliament ahead of the December 7, 2024, general election.

In a memo sent to the caucus on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Bagbin explained that calling the House back just days before the elections would not be in the country’s best interest.

He noted that the parliamentary calendar allows for election campaigns, during which the government and Members of Parliament present their manifestos and hold themselves accountable to Ghanaians for the trust they have been given.

“Again, as you are aware, the parliamentary calendar acknowledges election campaign periods. This season is for the Government, Parties, and both presidential and parliamentary candidates to present their manifestos to the people and to account and justify how the mandate given them by the voters for the four-year term of office has been applied to the benefit of the people,” parts of the memo read.

Bagbin further noted that the proposed two days (November 28 and 29) suggested by the Leader of Government Business, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, would not be sufficient for the House to address the twenty-two urgent items on the agenda.

“It is worth noting that, having regard to the practice and deliberations of the House, I wonder how the proposed twenty-two items could be transacted within two days.

“The national interest would better be served if members exhibit conduct of honour, empathy, and humility in the performance of their duties. In the circumstances, I am neither inclined nor disposed to exercise my discretion in favour of your request. The request is accordingly declined,” he stated.

In conclusion, Alban Bagbin said, “The House will resume sitting after the elections to complete all essential matters before a seamless transition to the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.”

The Speaker’s response comes after the New Patriotic Party Caucus in Parliament appealed for an emergency recall to address pressing government business.

  • I was forced to declare Ebi Bright winner; nullify declaration – EC official writes to Jean Mensah

I was forced to declare Ebi Bright winner; nullify declaration – EC official writes to Jean Mensah

Tema Metropolitan Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission (EC), Ofusehene Asante Manasseh, has claimed that he was forced by senior members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to declare Ebi Bright as the winner of the Tema Central parliamentary seat after Saturday’s election.

Mr. Asante said that both he and his staff were threatened with violence by NDC officials and their angry supporters, which pressured him into announcing the results in favor of the NDC candidate.

He explained the situation in a letter to the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, asking for the declaration to be canceled.

According to Mr. Asante, the NDC Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Nelson Rockson Defeamekpor, the Deputy National Communications Officer Malik Basintale, and other NDC supporters surrounded the collation center and forced him to declare Ebi Bright the winner, while threatening him.

“In fact, Rockson Defeamekpor kept threatening me throughout the collation process, and whenever I disagreed with him on a legal matter, one of their national executives, Basintale, began inciting their supporters, who had gathered and invaded the collation centre, chanting revolutionary songs,” he claimed.

He further explained that even though police officers were assigned to protect him and took him to the Tema Regional Police Command for safety, Mr. Defeamekpor and Mr. Basintale brought their supporters to the police station and insisted that he announce Ebi Bright as the winner.

“My life, the lives of my officials, as well as those of the police and media, were at stake. I was forced to prioritize my safety over the legality” he said.

Under these extreme circumstances, he declared Ebi Bright as the MP-elect, even though the collation of results was not complete.

He explained that results from two polling stations had not been collated yet, and had these results been included, the NPP candidate for the area, Charles Forson, would have won by a margin of 55 votes.

“There are, however, two outstanding polling station results, which, when added to the collated results, would change the outcome of the election. It would make the NPP candidate, Charles Forson, the winner by a margin of 55 votes,” he revealed.

As a result, Mr Asante has called on the EC chairperson to “nullify the result declaration.”

After Saturday’s election, Ebi Bright received 18,539 votes, while Forson of the NPP got 18,421 votes.

Mr. Asante requested that the results be canceled because he was not the official returning officer for the constituency – that responsibility belonged to a person named Kwasi Brobbey.

He argued that the declaration he made under pressure was illegal because it wasn’t made by the authorized returning officer.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, has confirmed that she received the letter, according to Myjoyonline.com.

NPP’s Ernest Kumi declared winner of disputed Akwatia parliamentary seat

Electoral Commission (EC) has officially announced that Ernest Kumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won the seat for Akwatia in the Eastern Region, following a long and disputed election process.

The results were declared at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, after many attempts to finalize the election results in the region had failed.

Ernest Kumi received 19,269 votes, while his main contender, Henry Yiadom Boakye from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), got 17,206 votes.

Akwatia, which has traditionally been a stronghold for the NPP, became a major focus during the December 7 elections.

What should have been a simple announcement of results turned into a lengthy process filled with delays, disputes, and accusations.

Before this, Ernest Kumi had won the NPP’s primary election in 2023, defeating Ama Sey to secure the party’s nomination. His victory in the primary was seen as a sign of his growing influence and readiness to compete in the general election.

However, the election itself was full of complications, with controversies at almost every stage.

Akwatia was one of four constituencies, along with Suhum, Nsawam, and Fanteakwa North, where the final election results had to be moved to the National Police Training School for re-collation.

  • I blame our defeat on recalcitrant Akufo-Addo; he doesn’t listen – NPP’s Appiah-Kubi

    I blame our defeat on recalcitrant Akufo-Addo; he doesn’t listen – NPP’s Appiah-Kubi

Outgoing MP for Asante Akim North in the Ashanti Region, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has blamed the NPP’s poor performance in the December 7, 2024 elections on decisions made by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The NPP faced a significant defeat, with its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, conceding before the Electoral Commission officially declared results. John Mahama, the NDC’s candidate, emerged victorious and is set to return as President, with his party also securing a majority in Parliament.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Upfront, Appiah-Kubi pointed out that the party’s problems worsened when President Akufo-Addo refused to remove former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, despite calls from NPP MPs. He added that the President’s failure to address critical issues within the party hurt Dr. Bawumia’s chances in the election.

“The blame will go by extension because he [President Akufo-Addo] refused to listen to us. Even when we saw the reality and tried to communicate it to him, he wouldn’t accept anything of the sort,” Appiah-Kubi said.

He further criticized the President’s approach, describing him as “too recalcitrant,” which he claimed contributed to the party’s defeat.

“He [Akufo-Addo] didn’t do enough to help Dr Bawumia because if you won’t listen to your own MPs… It was not just one person speaking. We were advocating with the support of more than 96 Members of Parliament,” he added.

Appiah-Kubi, who also lost his parliamentary seat to an independent candidate, questioned the president’s judgement, suggesting that his refusal to heed the MPs’ collective resolution demonstrated a lack of responsiveness to valid concerns.

“It’s not as though one person was saying something unwarranted. We had written our resolution, and because we didn’t have other opportunities, we wanted him to hear us. Yet, he refused to listen to any of us. That’s why we can blame him for this outcome,” he added.

Mbappe no longer with transgender girlfriend; he said he is single

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has reportedly ended his rumored relationship with transgender model Ines Rau.

Speculation about their romance began in 2022 when the pair were seen together on several occasions, though neither publicly acknowledged the relationship.

In a recent interview with Mouloud Achour on Clique, Mbappe appeared to address the rumors, revealing that he is currently single. The French footballer expressed optimism about finding love again in the future.

“Yes, in the past, I have already been in love, and I hope that I will be again. But currently, no,” Mbappe said.

His comments fueled rumours about a split from Rau, a transgender model and Playboy cover star.

According to reports, Mbappe ended the relationship with Rau after facing several fan attacks.

The footballer was subjected to homophobic abuse during the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, with Argentina fans taunting him.

“They f* transvestites like f*ing Mbappe,” a remark quoted by International Business Times (IBT).

Adding to the speculation, the couple have unfollowed each other on Instagram.

“If I catch anyone giving fake election prophecies again, I disgrace you ” – Daniel Obinim warns religious leaders

Founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has warned pastors in Ghana to stop making prophecies following the 2024 elections.

In a video posted on X on December 11, 2024, Obinim expressed his frustration with some pastors who falsely predicted a victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the election.

He made it clear that he no longer wants to hear any more false prophecies after the elections.

“All those prophets who prophesied that the NPP would win and the NDC would lose in this election, I don’t want to hear any of you on TV or social media declaring any fake prophecies, claiming that the NPP lost because they didn’t do their prophecies properly,” Obinim said.

The controversial pastor warned that he would not hesitate to publicly attack any pastor who tries to give such prophecies post-election.

“This is Angel Obinim speaking: If I see anyone on social media or TV giving prophecies after the elections, saying any political party didn’t fulfill their prophecies well, I will mention your name and fire you on social media. You people are a disgrace,” he added.

    Background

Ahead of the 2024 general elections, many pastors publicly predicted that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, would win.

Notable figures like Nana Agradaa, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, and Prophet Azuka were among those who made these predictions, all forecasting a victory for Dr. Bawumia.

Are the courts closed? – Ghanaians mock Afenyo-Markin over his rigged election claims

Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has sparked a strong reaction from some Ghanaians on social media following his call for the Electoral Commission to annul certain parliamentary election results.

In a press conference on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Afenyo-Markin explained that several of the declared results were not properly compiled and, as a result, were deemed unlawful.

He urged the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission to take swift and decisive measures to address the issue and rectify the situation.

“The EC must take immediate steps to reverse these illegal declarations, which were not based on properly collated results.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission should respond positively to the petitions and ensure that the rule of law is upheld,” he said.

In response to Afenyo-Markin’s statement, some Ghanaian netizens have advised him to pursue the matter through legal channels and settle it in court, rather than requesting the EC to revoke the results.

He has faced ridicule and trolling on X, with some users suggesting that his approach of rushing to court to resolve matters should be properly followed.

Others argue that the loss of his seat as Majority Leader, following the NDC’s significant win in the parliamentary elections, has affected him.

They suggest that he is now attempting to overturn certain decisions in their favor to boost their numbers in Parliament.

  • This election a proof of Ghanaians unforgiving nature towards underperforming govt – NDC’s Alex Mould

This election a proof of Ghanaians unforgiving nature towards underperforming govt – NDC’s Alex Mould

Leading member of the National Democratic Congress, Alexander Kofi-Mensah Mould, has opined that the appalling performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections is evocative of the overwhelming anger and disapproval of Ghanaians towards the performance of the Akufo-Addo government.

According to him, the 2024 elections should serve as a permanent reminder to Ghanaian politicians of the unforgiving nature of Ghanaians, who would not hesitate to kick out any government that underperforms.

Alex Mould, in a social media post on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, warned the NPP of the difficult task ahead in regrouping and bridging the over 1.5 million margin they lost in the recently-held elections.

“The NPP is about to experience what the NDC went through post-2016. We won this election by a landslide because the NDC had put institutional changes in place to be fit-for-purpose; contrarily, the NPP was in denial of the rot and pain the NADAA/Bawumia government caused Ghanaians,” he stated.

Despite being a leading member of the NDC, Alex Mould is wishing the NPP all the best as he believes that a formidable NPP is integral to keeping the NDC government on its toes to deliver on its promise to Ghanaians.

“We want them back stronger in 2028; we want a fair challenge. Ghana must build strong institutions, and that starts from having world-class, well-managed political parties,” he emphasized.

Acknowledging the uphill task for the NPP in rebuilding its base, he pointed to his party’s experience in regaining lost ground.

“From personal experience, crawling back 500k in 2020 of the 1M votes lost in 2016 was no joke,” he noted.

In the 2024 presidential race, former President Mahama, who was the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, won the race according to the results declared by the Electoral Commission. He beat 12 other candidates with 56.55% of the total valid votes.

His closest contender, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party, obtained 41.61% of the total valid votes cast.

Honor the trust Ghanaians have placed in you – Domelevo advices Mahama

Former Auditor-General of Ghana (AG), Mr. Daniel Yao Domelevo, has urged the incoming John Mahama administration not to take the overwhelming electoral victory for granted.

According to him, the majority of Members of Parliament (MPs) that the people gave to former President Mahama at the December 7 polls is to allow him to do good things for the country.

“It will be expected that he leaves a legacy that we can say that we have lived through four years of unprecedented good governance. That he is not going to say because I have the majority in parliament, we will pass through parliament and get approved policies that are not good for the people.

Any changes or amendments to the constitutions and the laws of Ghana that will help us to ensure better governance, I think I am all for it”.

Mr. Domelevo made the call when he spoke to the media in reaction to the overwhelming victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.

He also called for a complete separation of the office of the Attorney General (AG) from that of the Minister of Justice to enhance accountability.

He argued that there was no way that a cabinet minister like the AG can be held accountable by his colleague minister (AG).

“In fact, there is no way that you can sit in cabinet, be part of a policy decision or any decision, and when a decision is implemented with even advice from you, you come back and hold your colleague, member of parliament, or cabinet accountable,” he said.

The former auditor-general also urged Mr. Mahama to immediately begin work after his swearing-in to recover the looted funds as he promised, adding that he should not relent as there was work to be done.

“He and his team should know that there is no honeymoon for them. He and his team should hit the ground running. Fortunately, he is not a novice at this; he has been there before and knows what to do.

“I think from day one after swearing in, he and his team should start work on what needs to be done immediately, especially the looted funds he promised us that he is going to recover. I think he must take immediate action to ensure that these monies are not taken out of the country,” he said.

Saudi Arabia confirmed as 2034 World Cup hosts – FIFA confirms

FIFA has announced that Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup. This decision, made on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, means the tournament will return to the Gulf region after Qatar hosted it in 2022.

For the 2030 World Cup, FIFA has chosen Morocco, Spain, and Portugal as hosts, with some matches also being played in South America.

The decision on hosting rights was reached unanimously by football nations during a virtual FIFA Congress, without a formal voting process.

FIFA explained that it was following its policy of rotating the World Cup between continents.

For the 2034 tournament, only countries from Asia or Oceania were allowed to bid since the 2026 event, the first to include 48 teams, will take place in North America.

Saudi Arabia was the only country to submit a bid for 2034, securing its place as the host. It will be the first time a single nation hosts a 48-team World Cup under the new format.

For 2030, FIFA confirmed earlier that Morocco, Spain, and Portugal were the sole bidders after other countries withdrew.

NPP’s Obuasi East PC was threatened at gun point to forfeit seat – Afenyo-Markin claims

Former Majority Leader of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Afenyo-Markin, has claimed that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East was forced to relinquish his seat at gunpoint.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the NPP on December 11, 2024, Afenyo-Markin strongly condemned the escalating violence following the elections, which he alleged was being incited by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He stated that the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East was held hostage in his room and coerced into accepting the final election results under threats to his life.

His remarks follow reports of NDC members raiding polling stations and forcing Electoral Commission (EC) officials to declare their candidates as winners, even in cases where they were defeated by their NPP opponents.

“At Obuasi East, our candidate was asked to choose between his seat and his life; he was locked up in his room at gunpoint and was forced to sign the final so-called declaration, Where can this happen? Is his Excellency John Dramani Mahama pretending not to be aware of all of these? he noted.

Meanwhile, some cases of violence recorded so far include the shooting and death of individuals in Awutu Senya, allegedly involving NDC supporters. This was followed by another deadly confrontation in Nyankpala in the Northern Region, where tensions between NPP and NDC representatives led to violence, claiming a life.

In addition, reports surfaced of destructive actions at collation centers, such as the fire set to the Electoral Commission’s office in Damongo and several violent attacks on NPP supporters and party offices in other areas like Tepa and Ledzokuku

Kwasi Appiah hesitant to confirm interest in Black Stars coaching role

Former Black Stars head coach James Kwasi Appiah Kwasi Appiah appears to avoid giving a clear response about returning as Black Stars coach despite currently being under contract with Sudan.

However, his answer to a question about his possible return to the Black Stars suggested a potential comeback.

Appiah, who has managed the Black Stars in two separate periods (2012–2014 and 2017–2020), expressed openness to a comeback.

The 64-year-old’s name has recently surfaced in discussions as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) considers options for the team, especially as the Black Stars have struggled in recent times.

Many see Appiah as a strong candidate to replace Otto Addo if a change in leadership becomes necessary.

“You have to be professional. Whether you would do it or not, you have to keep it in mind because you never know what will happen,” Appiah said during an interview on Asempa FM on December 11, 2024, when quizzed about coming back for a third time.

“At the moment, I have a contract with Sudan, and I am working with them. As a professional, you don’t jump to conclusions because you never know what the future holds.”

Since leaving the Black Stars coaching job, Appiah has worked at Kenpong Football Academy before accepting the head coach role at Sudan, going the latter to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and beating Ghana en route to reaching that feat.

Okaikwei Central: Baba Sadiq urges Patrick Boamah to accept the results

The newly-elected Member of Parliament for the Okaikwei Central Constituency, Baba Sadiq, has urged his contender, Patrick Boamah, to accept defeat.

In an exclusive interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, Sadiq addressed concerns raised by Patrick, who is the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area.

“I think he must accept, so we can move on,” he said.

Responding to Patrick’s resolve to contest the election results in court, he said, “That’s an option less for him that one can’t really say.

I would have wished that for someone that had been voted for three different times by the constituents and for them to actually show willingness to change this time around, I think he needs to accept the fate and probably move on to something else.”

He, however, commended Boamah’s political experience and potential for growth within his party and the political landscape.

“He is a fine gentleman; he’s got very good political experience. I think he can move up and there is every opportunity for him to move up within his party or within the political ladder itself,” he noted.

Baba noted that the results that trickled in clearly showed that the people wanted to change.

Baba Sadiq had 15,383 votes, defeating Patrick Boamah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 14,949 votes.

Prince David Osei denies Mahama’s ‘drunkard’ post, says he left his phones with friends and cousins

Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has addressed backlash over a deleted post from his X account (formerly Twitter), which referred to President-Elect John Dramani Mahama as a “drunkard.”

The post was reportedly a reply to a user who had made an unpleasant comment about the actor. Speaking with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Prince denied responsibility for the offensive remark, stating that he was not the one who made the post.

Prince has since apologised to the President-Elect and expressed regret over the incident.

“After the election, we were all pained and sort of depressed because we were surprised at the outcome, but all the same, I came out to congratulate the NDC and the President-Elect. I even posted him, and I said what I had to say: elections are over, and we should all learn to live in peace. Then I started getting a lot of attacks on Twitter,” he said.

He said due to the pain from the disappointment, he did not carry his phones with him.

“So I even left the phone. I wasn’t by my phone. Normally when they start bullying and doing all that stuff, I just leave the phones to my cousins or some of my friends,” Prince said on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.

He said he was surprised when he woke up to see reports that he had insulted the president.

“I went on my Twitter feed to check where that was coming from. I noticed there was nothing like that, but I saw people tagging me in something written by me on my page. Then I said no, I didn’t write this. I started asking my cousins and friends, and then they said, Oh, people were annoying them, so they were replying to them. Then I asked if anybody tagged them in any of those tweets, and they said no. But I could see people sharing it on Facebook from Prince David Osei’s Twitter feed.

Because it was coming from my page, I came out to apologise and said I was sorry because people were calling my phone consistently with death threats,” he said.

Prince David Osei explained that although his cousins and friends have denied posting the comment referring to John Mahama as a “drunkard,” he suspects they might have made the posts in reaction to provocations from X users who were attacking him online.

“I think when they responded to the person, they deleted it,” he noted.

You did well; you prevented chaos by accepting defeat – KSM commends Bawumia

Ghanaian comedian Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as “KSM,” has praised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his role in maintaining peace after the 2024 general elections.

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, KSM commended Dr. Bawumia for accepting defeat gracefully, which he said was critical in preventing chaos and ensuring stability in the country.

KSM explained that both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had the resources to track and compile election results in real-time from polling stations.

However, as the NDC’s strong performance became evident, delays in the Electoral Commission’s announcement of results led to rumours and suspicion, heightening tensions. Dr. Bawumia’s concession helped to calm the situation and uphold Ghana’s democratic reputation.

“Rumours started coming in. ‘Why haven’t we heard from the EC? Are they trying to rig? Are they doing this? Are they doing that?’ They could all be wrong. But that’s where perception is very, very dangerous. So when Bawumia came out to concede based on the factors that were happening, it was just in time to calm tensions down in Ghana,” he said.

KSM noted that this action helped to prevent what could have been “very uncomfortable moments in Ghana,” bringing a sense of sanity and peace to the country.

“And that brought some sanity and some sort of peace into this country. Trust me, sir, if we were saying we were waiting for the EC to officially come after, it could have brought some very uncomfortable moments in Ghana,” he added.

KSM’s comments come as the Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced John Dramani Mahama as the president-elect of the Republic of Ghana, 48 hours after the polls closed on December 7.

The announcement declared Mahama the winner with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total votes.

I’m sorry – Prince David Osei apologises to NDC , Mahama for insults during campaign

Actor Prince David Osei has apologised to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following criticism over remarks he made about President-elect John Dramani Mahama.

On December 10, 2024, he shared a post on Instagram expressing regret for his comments and emphasised the importance of unity and peace among Ghanaians.

“I deeply apologise if my words during the campaign offended anyone from the NDC. We were all focused on winning, but now let’s move forward and live in peace. God bless Ghana,” he wrote.

    What happened?

It could be recalled that following Mahama’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, Osei, in a now-deleted post intended to congratulate the president-elect, stated that he himself would be president one day.

This post, however, was met with insults from some users who lambasted him for his comment.

An infuriated Osei, in response to one comment, labelled the commenter “fool” and questioned why he couldn’t aspire to be president, suggesting even a “drunkard” had been elected.

The remarks were widely interpreted as an insult to Mahama, fuelling anger among Ghanaians, particularly NDC supporters.
