It is a disappointing statement – Sammy Flex on Sally Mann’s planned sabotage of Shatta Wale

Manager of Shatta Wale, Sammy Flex, has voiced his disappointment with Ghanaian broadcast journalist Sally Mann. Mann recently claimed that certain industry figures are conspiring to sabotage Shatta Wale’s career.

During an interview on Onua FM, Sammy Flex described Mann’s remarks as unfortunate. He emphasised that such a plot would not only harm Shatta Wale, the “On God” singer, but also impact the entire team associated with him.

“To be frank, I was disappointed when I heard the issue. I asked myself what at all he (Shatta Wale) might have done against someone, and they want to shame him and make sure anything he does won’t succeed.

I also asked myself that if we claim we are in the same industry and some people would decide to do this, what would they gain from it? And you know it won’t only affect him but those who work with him as well. It is a disappointing statement coming from Sally,” he said.

    Background

On November 10, 2024, journalist Sally Mann revealed that she and several other media figures had devised a plan to undermine dancehall artist Shatta Wale’s career.

Speaking on Adom TV, Sally explained that their main goal was to elevate Stonebwoy’s profile, aiming to help him secure a Grammy award, and this effort included marginalising Shatta Wale.

She mentioned that their motivation stemmed from what they perceived as Shatta Wale’s disrespect towards media professionals in Ghana.

  • Profound carelessness, shambolic national squad – The Guardian journalist rants over state of Black Stars

Profound carelessness, shambolic national squad – The Guardian journalist rants over state of Black Stars

Ghana’s inability to secure a spot in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) has sparked widespread criticism, extending from local media outlets to international platforms.

The Black Stars failed to secure a single victory during the qualifiers, finishing last in Group F with just three points. Angola topped the group with 13 points, while Sudan claimed the second spot with seven points.

The disappointing outcome has drawn attention from notable voices in the football world, including The Guardian journalist Jonathan Wilson, who published an article analyzing the decline of Ghanaian football.

    Read Wilson’s article below:

What made it especially painful was that, just briefly, it seemed they might get away with it. But they did not. Ghana did not get the win they needed in Angola on Friday, and so Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey, and Antoine Semenyo will not be at the next Cup of Nations, which begins in Morocco in December 2025.

Ghana have been terrible in the qualifiers. Their elimination is deserved. They went into their final pair of games needing to win both and hope Sudan lost both of theirs. The likelihood was that it would all be over when Sudan, managed by the former Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah, which has added a whole other tier of complications, went to Niger. But Niger won, 4-0. Nobody had expected that. For Ghana, there was a glimmer of hope.

But it meant winning in Angola. After 18 minutes, Jordan Ayew whipped a 35-yard free-kick into the top corner, the sort of goal that belongs in legends, that the gods surely wouldn’t waste on a tame exit. Then Abdul Manaf Nurudeen saved M’Bala Nzola’s penalty with an outstretched foot.

Add in the fact that the coach, Otto Addo, and his two assistants, the former West Ham defender John Paintsil and the former goalkeeper Fatau Dauda, suffered only minor injuries in a car crash in September when a pick-up swerved into their lane, and it all seemed ordained. At half-time, the myths were already being written about a famous night in Luanda after a turbulent qualifying campaign leading to who knows what glory in Morocco.

The truth, though, is that there is a fecklessness to this Ghana. They are not missing out on the finals because of misfortune or a tough draw. They are missing out because they do not do the basic things well. Or, at times, at all. When Zini, in the middle of the goalmouth, eight yards out, headed in Felício Milson’s cross to equalise after 64 minutes, the closest player to him was his teammate Antonio Hossi.

Ghana barely threatened after that, their Cup of Nations campaign ending, anticlimactically, more than a year before the finals begin. Sudan, meanwhile, are on the brink of qualification, which, given the civil war has meant they have had to play their home games in Libya, would be a remarkable achievement.

Ghana have not missed out since 2004, their only failure to qualify since the finals expanded to more than eight teams. They’re a fixture. By winning the tournament in 1963 and 1965, the Black Stars established themselves as the first great sub-Saharan African team. In the six tournaments between 2006 and 2017, they always got to at least the semi-final. At the moment, they could call on not only Partey, Kudus, and Semenyo, but also Iñaki Williams, Abdul Fatawu, and Tariq Lamptey.

Yet results have been waning. After a penalty shootout defeat by Tunisia in the last 16 in 2019, they have twice been eliminated in the group stage. In all three games in 2022, they conceded after the 80th minute, eliminated by an embarrassing 3-2 defeat by Comoros.

Milovan Rajevac was sacked for those performances in Cameroon, replaced by Addo with Chris Hughton as technical director. Two fine defensive performances helped them overcome their great rivals Nigeria on penalties in their World Cup qualifying playoff two years ago but, in Qatar, there was a wildness as they were eliminated in the group. Earlier this year at the Cup of Nations, with Hughton installed as head coach, the failings of two years earlier returned.

They conceded a last-minute winner to Cape Verde, let a lead slip against Egypt, and then, crushingly, having been 2-0 up against Mozambique, gave up two goals in injury time. The pattern has become horribly familiar: as the clock ticks down, Ghana panic.

Hughton was sacked after the fiasco in Ivory Coast, with Addo returning. There had been a sense that Addo would restore some panache. Hughton’s cautious approach never seemed a good fit, which was one of the reasons he was personally threatened in the team hotel in Abidjan. But results have been dismal, the curse of late goals upsetting them again.

At home to Angola, Ghana conceded a 93rd-minute winner to Milson. Four days later, everything got a lot worse as Oumar Sako’s 81st-minute equaliser ensured Ghana dropped points away to Niger. Last month, they took a single point from two games against Sudan. Humiliatingly, they had to switch the home game from Kumasi to Accra because of safety concerns at the Baba Yara Stadium. Even then, it took emergency upgrade work to get the stadium in the capital ready. That speaks of years of neglect.

The response of the president of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, was to deliver a 15-minute speech to players before kick-off (broadcast on YouTube, of course). “Once you come here and you put on the shirt, that should give you the pride to fight, show passion, aggression, desire to win for your country,” he said. “When you draw games and I see players laughing, smiling, [it] is not acceptable. Thirty million people are suffering.” They drew 0-0; nobody was laughing or smiling. And still the situation got worse as Ghana lost the return 2-0.

So what’s gone wrong? There’s been talk of problems in youth development, and it’s true that results have declined significantly since they won the Under-20 World Cup in 2009. Perhaps some sense of togetherness or collective style has been lost, but there’s no shortage of talented players.

The problem is getting them to play together. Semenyo, Lamptey, and Williams were among eight withdrawals from the present squad. Partey was left out, having withdrawn from the squad for the two games against Sudan, only to be available immediately for Arsenal. With Addo having in effect retired André Ayew from international football, that leaves the squad short of leaders.

Leadership, organisation, and direction are generally lacking. There have been seven changes of coach since Avram Grant left in 2017, for which Okraku has to take responsibility. If players start to wonder whether it’s really worth pushing themselves to join a shambolic national squad, can they be blamed? With the talent available, Ghana should have gone to Morocco as one of the favourites. That they will not be there is the result of profound carelessness.

“I hadn’t prepared my family for politics” – Okyeame Kwame on declining Alan’s running mate offer

Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has revealed that he was approached to be Alan Kyerematen’s running mate ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Speaking about the offer, Okyeame Kwame shared that Alan Kyerematen, founder of the ‘Movement for Change,’ outlined ten criteria for the position, which he found intriguing.

Despite the allure of the proposal, the musician declined, citing the challenges that come with a career in politics. He expressed concerns about safety risks, potential propaganda, and the intense public scrutiny that politicians often face.

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM, Okyeame Kwame emphasized that his decision was influenced by his desire to prioritize his family’s well-being.

“So he [Alan] reached out, and I was in Kumasi for an event. I went to see him, and he outlined certain criteria for the person he wanted as his running mate. It was very flattering. They wanted someone who had accomplished something significant, and I’ve been in the music industry for 26 years. They also considered personal factors, like marriage and family.”

“I couldn’t do it because my children are teenagers. If I [were to go] into partisan politics, I would need to prepare them for at least a year. I also had to think about security: what if people spread false propaganda about you? What if they dug up your skeletons? Had I prepared my family to deal with that kind of pressure? No. And because of that, I didn’t want to put my family in jeopardy,” he stated.

Alan Kyerematen ultimately chose 40-year-old Elijah Kwame Owusu Danso as his running mate for the 2024 general elections.

Elijah, a professional lawyer, also has a background in broadcasting, having previously worked with Pan African TV.

Adding a unique dimension to his career, Elijah once pursued a passion for music as a hip-hop artist, showcasing a blend of creativity and professionalism.

  • Bawku conflict: Curfews not the solution to the problems – Adib Saani

Bawku conflict: Curfews not the solution to the problems – Adib Saani

Security analyst Adib Saani has emphasised that curfews are not a permanent solution to conflicts but rather a short-term strategy to manage volatile situations.

His comments follow the government’s decision, through the Ministry of the Interior, to enforce a 12-hour daily curfew in Bawku from 6:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. after renewed tensions linked to the controversial return of Seidu Abagre, who was enskinned as Bawku Naba in February 2023.

Despite the curfew and an emergency meeting by the National Security Council, violence persists in the area. Reports indicate that clashes have claimed at least three lives, with several homes destroyed by fire.

Speaking on Starr Today with Naa Dedei Tettey, Adib Saani described curfews as interim measures meant to reduce immediate tensions but criticised their effectiveness in addressing the root causes of the conflict.

He pointed out that previous curfews imposed in Bawku had failed to resolve the underlying issues and called for more innovative and sustainable solutions to bring lasting peace to the area.

“Well, I’ve always indicated that curfews don’t solve the problem. Curfews are just an interim measure put in place to stop the belligerence or the firing of weapons.

But when we don’t take advantage of the lull in fighting to address the other structural issues on the ground that are facilitating the cycle of violence in that area, then the violence recurs,” he said.

“And we have seen this time and time again. Indeed, in the past, we’ve had curfews imposed. And no sooner does the curfew start than the violence starts again,” he noted.

He continued: “And believe it or not, mostly the violence also happens in the evening when the curfew is in place. So it’s been proven beyond reasonable doubt that curfews don’t really work as much as we expected to do. For that matter, the need for us to explore other means to deal with the issue once and for all.”

  • Karl Mark Arhin withdraws from Amenfi Central race, throws support behind Joana Cudjoe of NDC

Karl Mark Arhin withdraws from Amenfi Central race, throws support behind Joana Cudjoe of NDC

Dr. Karl Mark Arhin, one of the independent candidates in the Amenfi Central parliamentary race, has officially stepped down from the race to endorse Joana Gyan Cudjoe of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He will now serve as her campaign manager.

Arhin, who had initially contested the NDC primaries but lost, made the announcement shortly after the Sekondi High Court ruled in favour of Cudjoe, allowing her to contest the elections. The court’s decision lifted a previous injunction that had prevented her candidature.

Addressing a rally in Kyeikrom on November 16, with NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah present, Dr. Arhin clarified that his candidature had only been temporary, as he had stepped in during Cudjoe’s legal battles.

He called on voters to rally behind her now that the court had cleared the way for her to run.

“I only went in to contest as an independent candidate in the absence of Joana Gyan Cudjoe but she has come. I therefore encourage you all to vote for her as she is the right person for the constituency now. I and my household are going to vote for her, so let’s all vote for her and John Dramani Mahama. I’m no more a candidate despite my picture being on the ballot,” he said.

The National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, while commending Dr. Karl Mark Arhin said he has not broken any party rules since it is the party that forced him to contest as an independent candidate following the court wrangling that nearly denied the NDC a candidate.

“It is the NDC party executives that sat to plant this independent candidate to ensure that the NDC have one of their own to vote for, looking at how the NPP was hiding behind some people to deny the NDC representation in the parliamentary election with the court case.

“So Dr. Karl Mark Arhin has not breached any party regulation, and on the day of the court injunction vacation, we called Karl to thank him and told him to step aside and rather become her campaign manager,” he explained.

    Joana Gyan Cudjoe,
the NDC’s candidate for Amenfi Central, expressed her gratitude to Dr. Karl Mark Arhin and the party’s supporters. She assured them that she would collaborate closely with him and everyone involved to secure the Amenfi Central seat for the NDC.

“Today is a happy day, and all I want to tell Amenfi Central and Ghana is that we thank all of you. This is because we survived what we went through with the help of God. Let’s remember on the election day that my position on the ballot paper is two. Vote for me and John Mahama.”

  • “This Kejetia project is ill-thought and needless” – Simon Osei Mensah

“This Kejetia project is ill-thought and needless” – Simon Osei Mensah

Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah has criticised the Kumasi Kejetia project, which was built during John Mahama’s tenure, calling it a poorly conceived initiative.

He argued that instead of addressing the city’s challenges, the project has only exacerbated the traffic congestion in Kumasi.

Speaking in a yet-to-air exclusive interview on GHOne TV with Serwaa Amihere in Kumasi, Simon Osei Mensah said, “So, I’m saying this Kejetia project is ill-thought and needless because it didn’t include adequate space for car parking. That’s why Adum has become a no-go area during peak business hours.”

He further explained that to prevent the issues caused by the “Kejetia Dubai project,” the design for the Central Market project, also known as Kejetia Phase Two, has been revised.

He explained that the ongoing Central Market project would not create congestion. “I will say it any day, any time, that the Kumasi Kejetia market is a poor investment that has created huge problems.

Kejetia was a lorry park, and you converted it into a market. Where should the cars park?” he asked Serwaa Amihere in the yet-to-be-aired exclusive interview on GHOne TV.

The Ashanti Regional Minister also dismissed the NDC’s statement that they built the Tafo Market, Atonsu Market, and others, insisting they only completed the Asawase Market.

“The Atonsu Market—I solved the problems there when we came to power. What are they talking about?”

The former Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe also told GHOne TV that, contrary to the NDC’s assertions, every health project inherited from the previous administration has been maintained and none has been abandoned in the region.

“As we speak, Serwaa, we have completed the Sewua Regional Hospital. It will be commissioned before the elections. The Afari Military Hospital will be completed before the year ends. The Kumawu District Hospital has been completed, and hospital staff are already working there. Tepa, Konongo, and Fomena are all actively providing healthcare. So, what is the NDC talking about? Which health project have we abandoned in the region?”

The minister further challenged the NDC to point to a single hospital project they initiated and completed before leaving office under the John Mahama administration in the region.

“The NDC has been lying that they have built hospitals in the Ashanti Region. I’m challenging them again today to point to just one full hospital they started and completed. If they show me, I will resign today. They have nothing to show; they are just talking,” he said.

An overconfident Simon Osei Mensah insisted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region would achieve the vote target they have set for the region.

“We have worked very hard in the region. Our roads have seen significant and proper improvement, and I’m confident that we will win this election with candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Our party’s target is 85%, and we will get it as a reward for the work we are doing for the region.

“Look, NPP built the Asafo, Asokwa, and Sofoline Interchanges, and we are currently building Suame Interchange. Can the NDC show us an interchange they built in Kumasi? I’m going hard this time on NDC—I will expose every lie they throw into the public.”

  • EC surprised at NDC’s claim that they found the problem with the Ahafo, Volta Region ballot papers

EC surprised at NDC’s claim that they found the problem with the Ahafo, Volta Region ballot papers

Electoral Commission (EC) has expressed astonishment at claims made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it was the party that alerted the Commission to issues with the serialisation of ballot papers for the Ahafo and Volta Regions.

The Commission questioned why the NDC would withhold such information from the public, especially considering that Volta Region, a stronghold of the party, was one of the affected areas.

It was also pointed out that the NDC typically addresses any concerns about the electoral process publicly before reaching out to the EC, referencing a recent interview by the party’s head of ballot printing, Richard Jakpa.

Given this pattern, the EC expressed surprise that the NDC only raised the issue publicly on Friday, November 15, 2024, after the Commission had already informed political parties of its decision to reprint the ballots for the affected regions.

The EC clarified that the serialisation issue was first identified by its own team at the printing house and later confirmed by the Commission’s Audit Department.

The EC further emphasized that no political party, either formally or informally, had notified the Commission about any serialisation issues, despite having agents present throughout the printing process.

  • EC to burn faulty ballot papers for Volta, Ahafo regions

EC to burn faulty ballot papers for Volta, Ahafo regions

Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced plans to destroy ballot papers with errors that have not yet been distributed to the Volta and Ahafo Regions.

This decision follows the discovery of discrepancies in the serialisation of the ballots, which led to the need for reprinting the papers for these regions.

The update was provided during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Friday, November 15.

In a statement issued on November 16, the EC confirmed that representatives from political parties will be present to observe the destruction of the faulty ballots.

A Destruction Certificate will be issued and signed by the observers as part of the process.

“The re-printing of the ballot papers for Ahafo and Volta Regions will be undertaken by Buck Press and Acts Commercials, respectively. As has always been the case, the affected ballot papers will be shredded and incinerated (burned).

Both activities will be witnessed by agents of the political parties, and a Destruction Certificate will be issued and signed by them.”

The Electoral Commission (EC) explained that the automated system intended to ensure correct serial numbers had flaws, leading the Printing House to adopt a manual process to rectify these issues.

However, the Commission emphasised that the manual system used by the Printing House was unreliable and could not be trusted to provide accurate serialisation of the ballots.

“Upon further assessment, the Commission decided that the manual system was not foolproof and could therefore not be relied upon to produce an accurate serialisation of the ballots.

In light of the above, the Commission decided to reprint the ballot papers and informed the Political Parties at an Emergency IPAC Meeting on Friday, 15th November 2024.”

Uncontrollable tears as husband bids farewell to wife and two kids lost in Owabi River

Atwima Koforidua in the Ashanti Region was filled with sorrow as the community gathered to mourn the tragic loss of Helena Yasan and her two daughters, who died when their car plunged into the Owabi River.

Helena’s husband, Emmanuel Yasan, was overcome with emotion as he said his final goodbyes to his beloved wife and children.

In a heartbreaking video shared on social media on November 17, 2024, Emmanuel was seen weeping uncontrollably, surrounded by family and friends offering their support.

Mourners at the service struggled to contain their grief, with some visibly sobbing in the crowd. The funeral was marked by prayers and profound sadness as the victims were laid to rest.

What Emmanuel initially said after losing his wife and kids

In an earlier video shared on Angel FM on October 30, 2024, Emmanuel recounted the devastating events of the fateful day he lost his family.

He explained that he had last seen his wife and children that morning before the tragedy struck.

“I called my wife, but she didn’t answer. I thought her phone was off because of the blackout the night before. When I went to the children’s school and didn’t find them there, I returned to the river where the car had fallen.

That’s when I realised it was her car,” Emmanuel recalled, his voice filled with emotions.

The image of his family being pulled lifeless from the water is something that will forever haunt him.

Reports indicate that the rescue operation was delayed because of the rising water levels, and traditional rituals had to be conducted before the vehicle could be recovered.

Illegal miners prepping to invade the Neung South Forest Reserve

Reports suggest that a group of unidentified illegal miners are planning to enter the Neung South Forest Reserve in the Tarkwa District, Western Region, to carry out mining activities.

Eyewitnesses from nearby communities have reported spotting several excavators and a washing plant positioned approximately 700 metres from the reserve. The miners are said to have set up barricades to prevent Forestry Commission (FC) personnel from accessing the area.

The illegal miners have accused the FC staff of being complicit in the death of one of their own, who was allegedly shot by security personnel from Kapsord Mining Limited.

Before Kapsord Mining’s arrival, the illegal miners were said to have controlled the area, but the company has since established a security post with guards to protect their designated concession.

The security post was reportedly set on fire by unknown individuals following the violent clash between the illegal miners and the concession guards.

Additionally, eyewitnesses claim to have seen heavily armed men, wearing camouflage military uniforms and travelling in a Toyota Pickup, speeding near the barricades, heading towards the reserve.

The escalating tensions have raised concerns about the safety of the forest reserve and the ongoing conflict between the illegal miners and the company’s security forces.

Video: Popular Prophet Azuka lavishly spends birthday in a rented yacht in Dubai

Prophet Azuka, a well-known spiritual figure, has caused a stir after a video of him celebrating his birthday in Dubai went viral.

In the footage, the prophet is seen aboard a luxurious yacht, which he allegedly rented for the occasion. He appears to be enjoying the festivities, taking photos, and celebrating with friends and family as the yacht sails through the water.

Wearing a stylish all-white ensemble, Azuka was visibly in high spirits, relishing the attention and praise from those around him.

While the video has garnered significant attention on social media, it has also sparked criticism. Some viewers have raised concerns about the lavishness of his celebration, questioning if such a lifestyle is appropriate for someone in his spiritual position.

Critics have called him an “attention seeker” and questioned his sincerity as a spiritual leader, arguing that his actions do not align with the modest and humble image traditionally expected of men of faith.

This is not the first time Prophet Azuka has courted controversy. He has previously been involved in public disagreements with other religious leaders, including notable conflicts with Prophet Ajagurajah, further fueling the debate about his role and authenticity within the spiritual community.

Jordan Ayew, Gideon Mensah, Alidu Seidu, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku have been ruled out of Ghana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Niger due to injuries.

Alidu Seidu and Gideon Mensah, who were doubtful ahead of the Angola match and required late fitness tests, have been declared unfit following post-match medical evaluations that highlighted their inability to play.

Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku picked up injuries during the Angola game. While Ayew managed to complete the match, MRI scans conducted in Accra revealed significant knee concerns. Issahaku, however, had to leave the field during the first half due to his injury.

After consultations between the Black Stars’ medical head, Dr. Prince Pambo, and Leicester City’s medical team, it was agreed that both Ayew and Issahaku would return to their club on Sunday to commence rehabilitation.

You are mistaken if you think Judiciary is a rubber stamp for Jubilee House decisions – Atta Akyea

Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta-Akyea, has dismissed claims that the Supreme Court operates as an extension of the Jubilee House, calling such accusations baseless and uninformed.

Atta-Akyea argued that individuals making these allegations demonstrate a lack of understanding of legal principles and the judiciary’s crucial role in a democratic system.

His comments follow the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant, a ruling that has drawn criticism and accusations of executive influence on the judiciary.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Saturday, November 16, Atta-Akyea staunchly defended the integrity of the Supreme Court.

He described the justices as highly esteemed and impartial legal experts committed to upholding the rule of law. He further stressed that their rulings are based on sound legal reasoning rather than any form of political allegiance.

“Those who claim that the Supreme Court is merely an extension of the Jubilee House and will rubber-stamp what we want are mistaken,” he stated.

He noted that the recent case showcased the Court’s independence, pointing out that two judges, Justice Lovelace Johnson and Justice Amadu Tanko, had dissented, demonstrating the diversity of thought within the judiciary. “The Supreme Court is a forum of respectable and capable individuals,” he added.

Samuel Atta-Akyea further argued that portraying the Supreme Court as an extension of the executive branch was both misleading and harmful.

He criticised such views as a misunderstanding of the rule of law and warned that they undermined the constitution and the judiciary’s independence.

The debate stems from the Supreme Court’s November 12 ruling, which overturned Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.

This decision followed a challenge by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who contended that the Speaker’s declaration was legally unfounded.

In their detailed judgement delivered on November 14, the five justices who supported Afenyo-Markin clarified that a parliamentary seat could only be deemed vacant if an MP officially changes political parties while remaining in Parliament.

Conversely, the two dissenting justices argued that the Supreme Court lacked jurisdiction over the matter, reflecting a notable divergence in legal interpretation regarding the Court’s authority.

  • No NDC MP should show up for any ‘supposed’ emergency recall of Parliament – Asiedu Nketia

No NDC MP should show up for any ‘supposed’ emergency recall of Parliament – Asiedu Nketia

National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has instructed his party’s Members of Parliament to abstain from any emergency recall of the House, which is currently on an indefinite recess.

Asiedu Nketiah asserted that with Ghana’s general election just three weeks away, any such recall would likely serve as an opportunity for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to engage in corrupt practices rather than addressing urgent government business.

“…Let no NDC MP set foot in Parliament. If they like, they can go and burn the sea. There’s no work in Parliament that can be said to be an emergency. There’s no emergency. Parliament will only be recalled so they can continue with the insatiable corruption they have perpetrated for the past eight years.

They still want to advance the corruption with just three weeks left. We won’t go close to them today or tomorrow,” he stated while addressing a crowd of party enthusiasts as part of his ongoing national campaign.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah’s remarks follow a Supreme Court ruling that overturned Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant, including three held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Speaker had justified his decision by citing Articles 97(g) and (h) of the Constitution, along with precedent, arguing that the affected MPs forfeited their seats by opting to contest the upcoming elections either as independent candidates or under the banner of a different political party.

However, the Supreme Court, in a 5-2 majority ruling, held that an MP can only vacate their seat under Articles 97(g) and (h) if they choose to remain in Parliament while adopting a new political identity.

Reacting to this decision, Asiedu Nketiah accused the Supreme Court of overstepping its constitutional mandate, warning that such actions pose a serious threat to Ghana’s democracy and must be firmly opposed.“The judges can say what they want. We will also use the rules of Parliament to work in Parliament. When we speak of democracy standing firm, democracy does not exist if you take out Parliament.

That is why every nation interested in their democracy must collectively protect their Parliament because your democracy falters if Parliament is weakened, and that would not be allowed to happen. Our Parliament and democracy were built off our blood. We won’t sit and watch one person come and destroy our democracy. That will not happen today or tomorrow,” he stated.

“Shameful, despicable and disgraceful” – NPP condemns attacks from NDC members on ex-President Kufuor

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly criticized the recent verbal attacks directed at former President John Agyekum Kufuor by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The backlash stems from a viral video featuring Dela Edem, a member of the NDC’s National Communications Team and an aide to former President John Mahama, making unflattering comments about Kufuor.

In a statement dated November 16, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, condemned the remarks, labeling them as “appalling, disgraceful, and utterly shameful.”

“Dela Edem, who was speaking on TV XYZ, said, among other horrible things, that “President Kuffuor is evil, and that’s why he is in a wheelchair and has been cursed to remain in a wheelchair.”

“These unprovoked attacks on the revered statesman and former president are despicable, shameful, and disgraceful. Accordingly, the NPP condemns them in no uncertain terms.”

The NPP has taken issue with the NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama, for his lack of response regarding the situation, urging him to demonstrate leadership by implementing appropriate disciplinary measures against Edem.

Additionally, they have requested that Mr Mahama publicly denounce the unacceptable remarks made by his aide and extend an apology to Mr. Kufuor.

Put your house in order – Franklin Cudjoe to Chief Justice after verdict on vacant seat case

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has urged the Chief Justice, Getrude Torkonoo, to “put her house in order.”

He made these remarks while expressing his discontent with recent court decisions and voicing sharp criticism of Ghana’s judiciary.

On his part, “Frankly speaking, my reading of the judiciary, unfortunately, in this particular case and a few of the cases, they have become like a playground for politicians; I think it’s a disappointment. I hope that they will redeem themselves quickly and the Chief Justice should put her house in order, ” he said during an appearance on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on November 13, 2024.

His remarks came in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling that overturned Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant.

Cudjoe accused the judiciary of exhibiting political bias, claiming it is increasingly being used as a tool for political agendas.

He expressed serious concerns about what he perceives as a lack of impartiality in judicial rulings and called on Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to uphold the judiciary’s credibility and ensure fairness in future judgements.

“The real issue has to do with the way we do our politics in this part of our world.

Frankly speaking, it is not right to have almost 70% of the populace of the country say you are biassed. It is not fair. It’s not pretty at all, and I think I’m part of that 70%. Maybe I’m on top of the 70% right now,” he noted.

On Tuesday, November 12, the Supreme Court overturned Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant. The ruling came in response to a legal challenge filed by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

In a detailed judgement delivered on Thursday, November 14, five of the justices sided with the Majority Leader, stating that a parliamentary seat can only be declared vacant if a Member of Parliament (MP) switches political parties while retaining their seat. The Court further clarified that the Speaker’s directive would not take effect during the current parliamentary term.

However, the ruling was not unanimous. Two justices dissented, arguing that the Supreme Court lacked the authority to adjudicate the matter. Their stance highlighted differing interpretations of the Court’s jurisdiction on such issues.

Togbe Afede XIV descends on Ghana’s leaders; calls them vindictive and divisive

Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has called for a new era of leadership in Ghana, one that prioritises integrity, equity, and trust while aligning with the nation’s Directive Principles of State Policy.

Delivering his remarks at the 2024 Asogli Te Za Grand Durbar, Togbe Afede highlighted the urgent need for effective economic management, accelerated development, and the promotion of citizens’ welfare. He urged leaders to tackle the country’s pressing challenges with a sense of honesty, accountability, and dedication to the public good.

“We have a crisis of leadership. Our leaders have become what I call the poor man’s boogeyman. We seem to be afraid of them and afraid to talk about the bad things that they do.

They have been divisive and vindictive, and they have exploited our democracy and our abhorrence of coups to perpetuate bad governance on our people,” he stated.

Togbe Afede XIV stressed the need for constitutional amendments to decentralise power and a shift in attitudes towards corruption.

“Unfortunately, all these things are made possible partly by a constitution that is bad, a constitution that has outlived its usefulness, a constitution that has concentrated power in one person. And that is not good for our country.

“Distinguished Guest of Honour, ladies and gentlemen, we are indeed in a crisis, and all of these things that I have talked about are a threat to our peace and stability. But as a slave of optimism, I believe that we can turn all of these things around,” he stated.

Touching on the pending elections, he urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.

“I want to call upon the Electoral Commission to ensure that we have conditions that allow for free and fair elections, conditions that would ensure that the people’s mandate is respected and the people’s choice is respected, so we can continue to enjoy the relative peace that has made us relatively unique in West Africa and Africa at large,” he stated.

I know posterity will remember me, though I’m barely appreciated now – Ofori Amponsah

Ghanaian highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has expressed frustration over not being fully valued for his contributions to the Ghanaian music industry.

In an interview on ‘The Day Show’ with Berla Mundi on November 15, 2024, the musician reflected on how easily he claims the public has forgotten the efforts of pioneers and long-serving artistes in the industry.

“I feel like in Ghana, people can easily forget about you, especially when you’re not constantly in the spotlight. You can do so much, but if you’re not visible, it’s as if you’ve never existed. But before I became Ofori Amponsah, I prepared myself for such moments, so I’m not worried about it,” he said.

Despite his feelings of underappreciation, Ofori Amponsah remains confident that his work will be remembered by future generations, even if the current generation overlooks him.

“I am not concerned because I believe posterity will remember me for all the songs I have created. My favourite song is Damabi,” he added, speaking about one of his most popular hits.

  • Black Stars miss out on 2025 AFCON qualifiers after draw against Angola

Black Stars miss out on 2025 AFCON qualifiers after draw against Angola

Black Stars of Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations were dashed after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Angola on November 15, 2024, at the Estadio de Angola.

This result means that Ghana will miss out on the tournament for the first time in 20 years, ending their streak of consecutive AFCON appearances dating back to 2004.

Ghana managed to take an early lead against the run of play when Jordan Ayew curled in a stunning free-kick in the 19th minute. However, Angola responded quickly, earning a penalty in the 27th minute. M’bala Nzola stepped up to take it, but Ghana’s goalkeeper, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, made an exceptional save to keep the Black Stars ahead.

Ghana held onto their slim lead at the break, but Angola came out strong in the second half, launching multiple attacks and putting pressure on the Ghanaian defence.

Despite their efforts, they found it hard to break down a solid defensive unit, with Nations FC’s Razak Simpson putting in a strong performance.

However, Angola’s persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when substitute Zini scored with a powerful header to level the score. The game opened up after that, with Ghana having a few opportunities to retake the lead. Jordan Ayew set up Ransford Yeboah in a one-on-one, but the Hamburg striker was unable to beat the goalkeeper. A short time later, Yeboah found Mohammed Kudus in the box, but Kudus’ shot sailed over the bar.

Angola regained control as the match wore on, slowing the tempo with well-executed passing and ultimately securing the draw.

Ghana remains at the bottom of their group with just three points from five matches—two losses and three draws. Their final match against Niger on November 18, 2025, is now irrelevant to their qualification hopes. Angola, who have already secured their place in the tournament, increased their points tally to 13, while Sudan and Niger sit with 7 and 4 points respectively.

NCCE refutes media claims suggesting extremists are targeting the 2024 elections

National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has denied a report published by the Ghanaian Times suggesting the Commission made a statement related to national security and the 2024 general election.

In a press statement issued on Friday, November 15, the NCCE disassociated itself from claims published in the Ghanaian Times suggesting that extremists and jihadists are targeting the upcoming December 7 elections and that the NCCE has detected attempts to recruit youth to disrupt the polls.

The Commission clarified that neither its chairperson, Ms Kathleen Addy, nor any staff member across the country made such a statement.

“The statement is untrue. The general public has been misinformed, and the Commission does not associate with claims by the newspaper,” part of the statement read.

The NCCE has called on the reporter and the media outlet responsible for the false report to issue a rejoinder to correct the alleged misstatement.

Additionally, the Commission has urged the public, media, security agencies, and all state institutions to dismiss the publication, describing it as deliberate misinformation.

“The Commission over the years has sensitised the public and its stakeholders on misinformation, and this is a clear example of what the NCCE has been engaging the general public on,” the statement added.

The NCCE reiterated its commitment to fostering civic education and maintaining public trust while urging everyone to verify information before sharing or publishing.

Concerned Youth accuse IGP of failing to act on threats to Speaker of Parliament’s life

Concerned Youth of Nadowli-Kaleo has raised allegations against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, accusing him of failing to act on threats to the life of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

In a statement issued on Thursday, November 11, 2024, and signed by their convener, David Jawara, the group expressed frustration over what they described as the IGP’s inaction regarding the safety of the Speaker.

The group further appealed to the Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery, to step in and ensure appropriate measures are taken to address the threats and protect the Speaker.

“Concerned Youth of Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency is a development-orientated political group of individuals who have always sought the development of the district and its human resource base,” the statement opened.

“It is, however, with grave concern that we issue this release on how the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, is handling a public threat against one of the illustrious sons of our constituency, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin, who has had a sterling twenty-eight (28) years of exceptional representation of our constituency and who serves mother Ghana currently as the Speaker of Parliament.”

“On October 19, 2024,” the Concerned Youth of Nadowli-Kaleo said, “the Convener of this group presented a petition in his individual capacity to the Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, on a viral video of a man who verbally assaulted the Speaker of Parliament and went ahead to threaten his life. This petition has been stillborn following the clear lack of attention and seriousness it has received to date.

“We know about how threats of this nature involving members in the executive arm of government are swiftly attended to by the IGP.”

“In 2020, a presenter of Accra-based Power FM, Oheneba Boamah Bennie, was arrested for a video he posted on his Facebook wall, which was seen by the police administration as a threat against the president. We can also vividly recall how the then national chairman for NDC, Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, was arrested and arraigned before court on comments he allegedly made in a meeting with party communicators. These comments were seen by the police as a threat to the peace of this country,” the group cited.

“We are extremely worried that the disgusting comments in the video, which have been brought formally to the attention of the IGP, have not received the requisite attention and action.”

“We have realised that, since the October 17, 2024, pronouncement by the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin on the fate of the four MPs, which arose from the petition of Hon. Haruna Idrissu, many vile commentaries and threats have been made against the Rt. Hon. Speaker, but nothing has been done about it. Is the IGP failing to act because the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament does not belong to the ruling party, or is the IGP being manipulated by some unseen hands in government?” the group quizzed.

“As a matter of fact, love or hate him, the contributions of the Rt. Hon. Speaker towards the development of our 4th republican democracy and parliament are enviable not only in Ghana but across the African continent and the world at large.”

“We are hereby calling on the Minister for the Interior, who is also a member of parliament, to take a serious interest in this critical matter,” the group said. “For the IGP, we wish to remind him he owes it a duty to protect the lives and property of everyone in Ghana.”

“We, the Concerned Youth of Nadowli/Kaleo constituency, are determined to use all available democratic tools to call for the arrest and prosecution of that young man and his ilk while also calling for the security around the Rt. Hon. Bagbin to be beefed up,” they emphasised.

“We are very confident that, even if the IGP and the executive fail to do the needful, the Almighty God and the oracles of our land will continue to be the ultimate guard for the Speaker of Parliament.”

“Finally, we are confident that Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin would not be cowed by any individual or group to make any decisions that are inimical to the interest of the country,” the group said.

“We, the Concerned Youth of Nadowli/Kaleo constituency, will continue to hold Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin in high esteem and will not sit aloof and watch the leader of the legislative arm of government be treated with disdain.

    “Thank you,” the statement concluded.

Alleged Expired Rice: Education Ministry insists rice distributed to SHSs FDA approved

Ministry of Education has responded to allegations by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa regarding the distribution of 22,000 bags of allegedly expired and repackaged rice to Senior High Schools across the country.

The Ministry has dismissed these claims, asserting that the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) certified the rice as safe for consumption.

Ablakwa accused Lamens Investments Africa Limited and the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) of conspiring to distribute rice that had reportedly expired in December 2023. He further alleged that the rice was repackaged in locally made sacks with misleading labels such as “ECOWAS” and “Made in Ghana rice” and lacked proper expiry dates.

On November 14, 2024, the Ministry of Education addressed the controversy, confirming that the matter is under investigation. According to Ministry spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng, NAFCO had contracted Lamens Ventures to procure and distribute the rice.

While the rice was initially imported and marked with a December 2023 expiry date, Lamens Ventures sought FDA guidance to assess whether the product was still fit for consumption.

Following retesting, including a review in India, the FDA extended the “Best Before” date to April 30, 2024, confirming the rice remained safe to eat.

Despite this assurance, Ablakwa has doubled down on his position, rejecting the FDA’s findings and maintaining that the rice was unfit for distribution. The Ministry has reiterated its commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring the safety of food provided to schools.

Read initial findings: Supply of Expired Rice to Students under the Free SHS Programme.

    1. The National Food Buffer Stock Company Limited (NAFCO) engaged Lamens Ventures to procure rice for distribution to students under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program.

    2. A total of 11,000 metric tons of rice was imported, with an initial expiry date of December 2023.

    3. By the last quarter of 2023, NAFCO still had a portion of this stock yet to be supplied to schools.

    4. On the advice of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Lamens Ventures followed the necessary protocols to have the rice re-tested in India, its country of origin.

    5. The re-testing was to ascertain the possibility of extending the rice’s shelf life by an additional year, to December 2024.

    5. Following further evaluations and verifications, the FDA granted a temporary extension of the rice’s “Best Before” date to April 30 2024, after confirming the product’s continued wholesomeness.

    6. It is important to note that February 2024 was the last time Lamens distributed these rice to schools through NAFCO and at the time the rice was deemed wholesome by the FDA

    7. To address concerns from schools regarding the rice’s perceived expiry date, Lamens Ventures submitted a formal request to the FDA, dated February 9, 2024, seeking approval to re-bag the remaining stock to reflect the updated shelf life.

    8. The rice was certified by the FDA as wholesome for consumption, with its new expiry date extended to April 2024.

NPP’s Nana B blames delay in the National Cathedral project on COVID-19 pandemic

National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has explained the reasons behind the delay of the National Cathedral project, highlighting key factors that influenced its suspension.

The National Cathedral, a highly anticipated project that has sparked mixed reactions from the public, is currently on hold.

In an interview with Fiifi Pratt on Kingdom FM, monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Nana Boakye attributed the postponement to the effects of two significant global challenges: the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“The suspension of the National Cathedral project is largely due to unforeseen global challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic affected economies worldwide, including Ghana’s,” Nana Boakye explained during the interview.

“The pandemic required a significant reallocation of resources. Financial resources that were originally set aside for the Cathedral were redirected to stabilise the economy and offer relief to Ghanaians in the midst of a crisis.”

He elaborated on the immediate measures taken by the government to alleviate the hardships faced by Ghanaians, such as the provision of free electricity and water.

“President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration took decisive steps to support the people of Ghana during this difficult period,” Nana Boakye said.

“Free electricity and water were provided to citizens to ease the burden of the pandemic.

“These were essential steps to keep the country moving forward, and as a result, the resources for the Cathedral had to be paused.”

The suspension of the National Cathedral project has sparked public debate, as many Ghanaians had embraced the vision of a monumental structure reflecting the nation’s Christian heritage.

Addressing the concerns, Henry Nana Boakye defended the government’s decision, emphasizing that safeguarding the well-being of citizens during critical times took precedence over infrastructure development.

“The government had to prioritize stabilizing the economy over pursuing large-scale projects. The focus was on ensuring Ghanaians could weather the pandemic without undue hardship,” Nana Boakye explained.

He acknowledged the significance of the National Cathedral but stressed that the government’s primary goal during the crisis was to save lives and deliver essential services.

Initially envisioned as a landmark for religious activities and a hub for tourism, the National Cathedral project has faced delays due to pressing national challenges. Despite this, Nana Boakye assured Ghanaians that the project remains on the agenda and will be revisited once the country’s economic conditions improve.

“The National Cathedral is not abandoned. It’s simply on hold until the economic situation stabilizes,” he affirmed.

“Once we have successfully navigated through these global challenges, we will refocus our efforts on completing this important national monument.”

Ballot papers for Ahafo, Volta regions to be reprinted over incorrect serial numbers – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to reprint all ballot papers designated for the Volta and Ahafo regions due to errors in their serial numbers.

Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, disclosed this during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Friday, November 15.

Tettey noted that while the overall ballot printing process has been smooth, recent concerns emerged about discrepancies in the serial numbers for ballots intended for the two regions, prompting the decision to reprint.

“The challenge faced by the Commission has been with the serialisation of the numbers on the ballot papers,” he said.

He explained that the Commission has taken serious steps to address the issue and has deployed teams to the printing house to rectify the anomalies.

He noted that gaps still remain, prompting the Commission to decide to reprint the papers for the Ahafo and Volta regions.

Mr Tettey further stated that the Commission has resolved to have both the presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for the two regions printed by Buck Press and Acts Commercials.

“We wish to inform you that we will share the printing timetable with you by the close of today,” he said.

He further stated that arrangements for properly disposing of the faulty ballot papers will be communicated to all stakeholders and political parties. To ensure transparency, a certificate of destruction will be issued, signed by all parties involved in the process, and copies will be distributed to each party

In response to concerns raised by an Afrobarometer report from the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), which highlighted growing skepticism among Ghanaians regarding the EC’s impartiality, the Commission reassured the public that it is fully equipped to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections.

The CDD-Ghana report revealed that a significant portion of the population questions the EC’s independence and neutrality.

However, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, the EC’s Deputy Chairperson, addressed these concerns in a media interview, calling them baseless and reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to upholding electoral integrity.

He emphasized that the EC has implemented a range of measures to improve the credibility of the election process, including the use of advanced biometric systems, comprehensive training for polling staff, and enhanced monitoring protocols at all voting locations.

“You talk about the quality of elections in Africa, Ghana is one of the best in the continent. Ghana is one of the best in the business.

“So regarding this forensic audit issue you just mentioned, you remember as soon as we had a meeting publicly, which was televised nationally, all Ghanaians saw that the EC had nothing to hide.”

He encouraged the public to focus on the EC’s track record of organizing previous successful elections and assured that their votes will be accurately counted and transparently reported.

  • COPEC predicts small decline in fuel prices for November’s second pricing window

COPEC predicts small decline in fuel prices for November’s second pricing window

Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has predicted a slight decrease in fuel prices as the second pricing window for November begins on Saturday, November 16.

COPEC forecasts a 5.06% drop in the retail price of petrol, which is expected to fall from the current average price of GHȼ14.30 per litre to a range of GHȼ12.90 to GHȼ14.26 per litre.

Diesel prices are also anticipated to decrease by 3.88%, dropping from the current average of GHȼ15.16 per litre to a range of GHȼ13.85 to GHȼ15.31 per litre.

This forecast comes after several months of substantial increases in the prices of refined petroleum products.

For example, state-owned GOIL raised the price of diesel from GHȼ14.90 per litre in October’s second pricing window to GHȼ15.45 per litre in the first window of November.

COPEC’s projection brings some relief to consumers who have been struggling with the rising fuel costs. The price adjustments are attributed to fluctuations in global oil prices and changes in exchange rates.

  • Woman bites off husband’s nose over alleged GHS 1.5k theft at Gomoa Buduatta

A 40-year-old man, James Batman, has lost his nose following an attack by his wife, Abena Dorah, over a dispute involving GH₵1500 in Gomoa Buduatta, located in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The incident took place on Friday during a heated argument between the couple.

According to police sources, the two had been living separately for some time, but James visited his wife’s home to retrieve his television.

  • Vacant Seat Saga: No one has won Martin Kpebu on Supreme Court ruling

Vacant Seat Saga: No one has won Martin Kpebu on Supreme Court ruling

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has expressed concerns over the Supreme Court’s recent ruling regarding the Speaker’s declaration of vacant parliamentary seats.

The ruling came after a petition by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Member of Parliament for Efutu.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Lawyer Kpebu criticised the Court’s interpretation of the law, claiming that the judiciary had exceeded its authority by effectively “amending” the constitution through judicial interpretation.

“The provision is clear, but what’s also clear is that I don’t have the power to change it.

The issue is that we are trying to twist an undesirable law into the desirable one we want,” Lawyer Kpebu remarked.

He stressed the importance of adhering to the law as it is written rather than allowing it to be ““recrafted” through judicial interpretation.

Lawyer Martin Kpebu also cited a statement from renowned lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata, who warned that the judiciary, if not checked, could undermine the constitution.

“It’s not only military force that can overthrow a constitution. The judiciary, too, has the power to do so,” Tsikata had said.

Lawyer Kpebu referenced this quote, explaining that in law, for every principle, there is a counter-principle, making it difficult to find a clear “winner” in legal cases like this one.

The lawyer also called for more transparency in constitutional matters, suggesting that, to ensure impartiality, the executive should not have a role in Supreme Court appointments.

“If we don’t speak openly about these issues, our constitution will never grow,” Kpebu concluded, urging for a more open and honest legal conversation.

On Thursday, Mr. Thaddeus Sory, lawyer for the Speaker of Parliament, argued that the Supreme Court’s decision did not amount to any orders against Speaker Alban Bagbin.

“The Supreme Court decision released this afternoon is interesting. The majority decision raises a number of legal issues. Since this is public and not a legal platform, I will discuss the most basic but fundamental issue for debate,” Sory stated.

I didn’t remarry; what’s wrong if I actually did? – Okomfo Kolege on remarriage rumours

Kumawood actor Okomfo Kolege has addressed the wave of criticism that followed viral posts suggesting he had remarried.

In an interview with Kwaku Manu TV on November 15, 2024, Kolege responded to the confusion sparked by the posts, which led many to believe he had gotten married.

He clarified that he is not married, explaining that he had merely stood in for someone else during the ceremony. However, he chose not to disclose the identity of the person involved.

“I’ve stayed quiet about this whole issue, but I would appreciate it if the person who posted that picture from a fake account could come forward and clarify whether I’m married or not. I have stood in as a husband for some relatives abroad, and I don’t see anything wrong with that,” he explained.

He went on to question, “Let’s assume the picture that circulated on social media is true. What’s wrong with remarrying after my wife passed away two years ago? Would Ghanaians prefer I fornicate or settle down?”

The Kumawood actor also opened up on the emotional toll of losing his wife.

“I am the only one who truly felt the pain and trauma when I lost my wife. I moved from Kumasi to Accra to help me cope with the grief. That’s why I’m asking the person who posted that photo to clarify whether I was standing in for someone or getting married myself,” he added.

My wife, others advised me against reacting to Obrafour’s diss song in 2017

Renowned Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame has opened up on how he initially felt after his colleague Obrafour released a diss track against him in 2017.
He told Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, November 14, 2024, that he was furious and had considered responding to Obrafour’s ‘Kasiebo’ diss song.
However, with the intervention of his wife and some of the lecturers, he rescinded from replying to to Obrafour.

“I was angry at that time; I got very angry… I wanted to react, but Professor Asante, who was my academic teacher at the time, and my wife stopped me. I had already written books on diss songs. I wanted to take the same beat used in Kasiebo and diss him back,” he said.

Okyeame Kwame thanked his mentors and wife for keeping him out of the feud.
He admitted that if he had answered, he would have lost both his friendship and his respect.
“My wife said I hadn’t done a song about Nkrumah or about God, so I shouldn’t be doing a song about him,” he added.

“Among all the things I have done in my life, the only thing I am grateful for is not insulting him back. Because I would have lost my respect and a friend,” he added.
Obrafour released Kasiebo in 2017, featuring rapper Guru.
After the song was released, it sparked conversation in the industry, with many music enthusiasts expecting a reply from Okyeame Kwame.

  • Grand Jury probes witness alleging possession of footage of Diddy abusing celebrities

Grand Jury probes witness alleging possession of footage of Diddy abusing celebrities

A federal grand jury has been actively meeting as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, according to three sources who spoke to CNN.

On Thursday, jurors were set to hear testimony from a witness claiming to possess video recordings allegedly showing instances where Combs may have harmed celebrities, one source revealed.

Attorney Ariel Mitchell confirmed to CNN that her client, a man, was called to testify before the grand jury that day.

Although the client has not filed any lawsuits against Combs or accused him of personal wrongdoing, Mitchell stated that he is serving as a witness. She explained that he has evidence and knowledge regarding allegations of sexual abuse and other misconduct linked to Combs, some of which reportedly involve celebrties.

“We are here to comply with the court’s order,” Mitchell told CNN over the phone, disclosing her client’s identity

Mitchell has also represented two female accusers of Combs. In one of those cases, she asked the court to withdraw, citing “undermining behaviour and questionable antics” by her client.

When contacted by CNN, the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York declined to comment.

Representatives for Combs did not respond to CNN’s request for comment regarding grand jury testimony. He has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution and denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

“In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor,” attorneys for Combs previously told CNN in a statement.

In an earlier filing, attorneys for Combs accused lawyers for some of his accusers as having made “shockingly prejudicial and false allegations of sexual assault and abuse of minors.”

Since Combs’ arrest last month, prosecutors have said multiple times that the government’s investigation into Combs is ongoing and active. On the day the three-charge indictment against Combs was unsealed in September, US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, encouraged victims to “come forward and to do it quickly.”

At a hearing earlier this month, prosecutor Emily Johnson said that additional charges or defendants could be added to the case.

A source familiar with the federal investigation previously told CNN that new accusers and witnesses have met with federal agents since Combs was arrested.

“The grand jury is always meeting. This is an ongoing investigation,” a source familiar with the current state of the investigation told CNN on Thursday.

A separate source, also familiar with parts of the investigation, said, “The grand jury has never stopped.”

This week’s grand jury proceedings coincide with new revelations from a public filing on Wednesday, where prosecutors disclosed the collection of discovery materials, including video, audio, and text messages retrieved from over 60 of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ devices and iCloud accounts.

In the 49-page document, the government outlined that the evidence would include additional communications with witnesses and victims, details related to alleged “Freak Off” events, and bank records purportedly showing payments made to victims.

Combs’ criminal trial is provisionally scheduled for May 2025. Meanwhile, since November of last year, he has faced more than two dozen civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault and other misconduct—allegations he has consistently denied.

  • OB Amponsah calls on Ghanaian artists to expand their reach beyond the Nigerian market

OB Amponsah calls on Ghanaian artists to expand their reach beyond the Nigerian market

Nigeria is often recognized as having the most thriving entertainment industry in Africa, positioning it as a significant rival to other nations, including Ghana.

This perception has sparked numerous debates among industry players and stakeholders, with some Ghanaian entertainers openly acknowledging Nigeria’s dominance.

However, comedian OB Amponsah holds a contrasting view on the matter.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Changes show, he dismissed the idea that Nigeria is a competitor for Ghanaian comedians.

According to him, the African continent is vast, with countless opportunities in different countries. He encouraged Ghanaian entertainers to broaden their horizons and explore markets beyond Nigeria.

“The space is big and Africa is huge, and when you travel outside Ghana, you would realise that there’s a lot of common stuff that we all share as Africans. So, I feel like the space is broad and we should explore beyond the Nigerian mentality because even between us and Nigeria, there’s Togo.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvjT8UdSu8Y

He further told Roselyn Felli that the majority of Ghanaian comedians, including himself, have performed in other international countries in the same way as their Nigerian counterparts.

According to him, attention has been shifted from Nigerians, although their entertainers are usually invited to perform on platforms together with Ghanaians.

“I feel like our focus is too much on Nigeria. I’ve performed in Rwanda, Zambia, and South Africa. Oh Joo and Ebenezer Dwomoh went to Kenya to do shows; Jacinta has performed at Apollo. So, Nigerians are not like our competition,” he cleared.

OB Amponsah emphasized that Ghanaian comedians have successfully ingrained stand-up comedy into the fabric of the local entertainment scene, giving them a competitive edge over their Nigerian counterparts when performing on Ghanaian stages.

He further suggested that instead of seeing Nigerian entertainers as rivals, Ghanaian performers should focus on penetrating the Nigerian market to make a mark in their industry.

The comedian also highlighted a growing trend among Ghanaian comedians to collaborate with international acts beyond Nigeria. This approach, he noted, is aimed at expanding their reach and establishing a stronger presence on the global stage.

  • I orchestrated the separation of Bradez from Okyeame Kwame – Andy Dosty

I orchestrated the separation of Bradez from Okyeame Kwame – Andy Dosty

Host of Hitz FM’s morning show, Andy Dosty, has disclosed that he was the one who advised the hiplife duo Bradez to part ways with their elder brother, Okyeame Kwame, professionally.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz, Andy made this revelation while also extending an apology to Okyeame Kwame for encouraging such a decision.

“I had to whisk him away because I felt like his clouds were hovering, and at a point, I needed the boys to break out. It was like Okyeame Kwame and the Bradez, so I called him and said, ‘leave there, move away’, let the boys be, they will survive,” Andy said.

Okyeame Kwame, who was a guest on the show said even though he was initially hesitant about letting Bradez do their independent projects, he later realised the separation yielded positive results.

“I had plans, and I was attached to the plans. Kunta was like my son; when my father died, I raised him. I had vision, I had ideas that this guy was going to be the musician I never was.

I think it was the best advice you gave to us because it worked,” he said.

Dosty elaborated on his rationale behind his action, emphasising the importance of Bradez’s independence from Okyeame.

“Without Okyeame Kwame, they can now be independent and help him focus on his music,” he noted.

The duo, consisting of Flowking Stone and Kunta Kinte, initially built on the success of their elder brother, Okyeame Kwame, also known as the “Rap Doctor,” frequently featuring in many of his hit songs.

Bradez eventually captured the hearts of music lovers with their own chart-topping tracks, including Simple, Dondo, One Gallon, and Flashe, among others.

  • 2025 AFCONQ: Ghana drops to last place in Group F as Niger thrashes Sudan

2025 AFCONQ: Ghana drops to last place in Group F as Niger thrashes Sudan

Ghana’s Black Stars have found themselves at the bottom of Group F in the ongoing qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a dramatic turn of events on Thursday, November 14.

Niger shook up the standings with a stunning 4-0 victory over Sudan, leaving Ghana’s path to qualification increasingly precarious.

Heading into the match, Sudan required only a draw to secure their place in the tournament, a result that would have effectively eliminated Ghana from contention. However, the Sudanese side, which had convincingly defeated Ghana 2-0 just last month, faltered against a resurgent Niger team.

Previously winless in the qualifiers, Niger delivered a dominant performance to claim their first victory of the campaign. Daniel Sosah led the charge with two goals, while Youssef Oumarou and Ousseini Badamassi each added to the tally, ensuring an emphatic win.

This result lifted Niger off the bottom of the Group F table, pushing Ghana into last place—a shocking development for a team with such a storied footballing history.

Despite this setback, Ghana’s qualification hopes remain alive, albeit slim. The Black Stars must win their final two matches against Angola and Niger to have any chance of advancing.

Their fate could also hinge on the outcome of Sudan’s upcoming clash with Angola. A Sudanese defeat in that match would provide Ghana with a lifeline in their quest to secure a spot at AFCON 2025.

For now, Coach Kwesi Appiah and his team face a daunting challenge to restore pride and keep their tournament hopes alive.

  • “I’m 100 per cent sure I will win my first Grammy next year” – Rocky Dawuni

“I’m 100 per cent sure I will win my first Grammy next year” – Rocky Dawuni

The saying “third time’s a charm” hasn’t quite worked out for Ghanaian musician Rocky Dawuni, but he’s not giving up. After missing out on a Grammy in 2015, 2021, and 2023, he’s back in the race for the prestigious award for the fourth time.

Rocky Dawuni’s Rise album has been nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category. He faces tough competition from industry icons like Angélique Kidjo of Benin, Pakistani-American artist Arooj Aftab, and British musician Jacob Collier.

Speaking to Graphic Showbiz on Monday, November 11, Rocky expressed unwavering confidence that 2025 will be the year he finally secures a Grammy.

“I’m 100 per cent sure I will win my first Grammy next year. Weighing my chances on a scale of 1-10, I believe it is 10. I’ve worked very hard over the years and my consistency will pay off. I’m extremely confident,” he said.

While Rocky Dawuni demonstrated unwavering faith, he was quick to adopt a “never say never” position when asked how he would feel should the outcome be different from his expectation.

“I don’t think I would be that disappointed. First of all, I’m a musician and my first responsibility is to make music. Awards are just the byproduct of what we do as musicians. So, I will keep making music, touring and spreading my message with or without a Grammy,” he stated.

Despite his consistent efforts to promote Ghanaian music on the global stage, questions about Rocky Dawuni’s popularity within Ghana have resurfaced in recent days.

The musician, renowned for hits such as in Ghana, Jammin Nation, Jerusalem, Akwaaba, African Reggae Fever, and Download the Revolution, dismissed claims that his music lacks appreciation in his home country.

Rocky attributed this perception to the tendency of some Ghanaians to overlook or undervalue certain types of music and artists, a group he feels he belongs to. He emphasized that it is misguided to suggest his work is not celebrated in Ghana.

  • IPG report shows unemployment situation under Akufo-Addo far better than Mahama

IPG report shows unemployment situation under Akufo-Addo far better than Mahama

Institute of Progressive Governance (IPG), a policy think tank, has urged former President John Dramani Mahama to refrain from misleading the public by claiming that unemployment rates were better under his administration than they are today.

Citing data from the World Bank and the Ghana Statistical Service, IPG clarified that the current unemployment situation is significantly improved compared to when Mr. Mahama was in office.

IPG referenced the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) criteria for defining unemployment, which applies to individuals aged 15 and above who (i) did not work at all during the reference week, (ii) are available for work, and (iii) are actively seeking employment. This ILO definition, known as the “narrow definition” of unemployment, is intended to allow for accurate comparison of unemployment rates across countries.

The think tank continued, “Unemployment rate is mathematically defined as the total number of the unemployed divided by the labour force and multiplied by 100%. Using this estimation with the data from the World Bank, the unemployment rate increased from 4.9% in 2006 to 5.4% in 2010. While the unemployment rate declined considerably to 2.2% in 2013, it unfortunately went up to 6.8% in 2015, the highest in over a decade!

“Even though President Mahama left the unemployment rate at 5.2% in 2016, the 6.8% unemployment rate registered under him as a president in 2015 still remains the highest since 2005! The average unemployment rate under Mr. Mahama as the president (from 2013 to 2016) is 4.65%!

IPG explained further that the highest unemployment rate under Akufo-Addo was 3.4%, which was recorded in 2017. This rate, however, declined marginally to 3.3% in 2018 and further to 3.2% in 2019 but went up to 3.3% in 2020 and was maintained at 3.3% in 2021 before declining to 3.1% in 2022 and repeating at 3.1% in 2023. Hence, the average unemployment rate in the last seven years (from 2017 to 2023) is 3.24%!

“It is therefore misleading for Mr. John Mahama to tell Ghanaians that unemployment rates recorded under Akufo-Addo are worse than those recorded under him as a president of Ghana. Mr. Mahama’s average unemployment rate of 4.65% is higher than Nana Akuffo Addo’s 3.24%!” IPG opined.

The think tank noted that the Ghana Statistical Service, in its recent surveys, has used a broad unemployment definition to estimate unemployment rates for the country.

“This definition relaxes the ILO’s condition of job chasing. The estimation is reasonable because Ghana’s hugely informal economy does not encourage job seekers to write applications or move from one office to the other in search of jobs. In reality, while many Ghanaian job seekers are not seeking jobs, most of them are available and ready to work.

While this measure provides a close reality to Ghana’s unemployment situation, it cannot be used to compare to the unemployment situations in other countries. It is purely for internal policy purposes, and IPG commends the Ghana Statistical Service for providing such additional information on the unemployment situation in the country,” they stated.

“Indeed, by using the broad measure of the unemployment rate, Ghana’s unemployment rate increased from 13.3% during the first quarter of 2022 to 14.9% in the third quarter of 2023 (see Ghana Statistical Service Report, February 2024, page 6).

“This does not mean that the unemployment rate of 5.2% (a narrow measure in 2016) left by Mr. Mahama is what has increased to 14.9% in 2023! No! That is wrong and misleading! Using the ILO’s measure (narrow measure), Ghana’s unemployment rate has declined from 5.2% in 2016 to 3.1% at the end of the third quarter of 2023,” IPG suggested.

In conclusion, IPG advised the campaign team of NDC to help Mr. John Dramani Mahama understand and appreciate technical issues before going public with them,” they added.

“The world would not take him seriously if he gets such elementary issues wrong!” IPG cautioned.
