Nigerian Pastor faces backlash for inviting Davido to perform at his party

Founder of the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church, Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, is facing criticism for inviting renowned Nigerian artist Davido to perform at his recent birthday event.

Many critics contend that having a secular musician at the celebration clashes with the moral expectations of a pastor and undermines the integrity of the gospel message.

A disappointed follower shared their frustration, stating, “As a pastor, he should have invited gospel musicians to minister and guide people towards the Kingdom of God.”

Other critics echoed similar views, calling Pastor Tobi’s decision “an embarrassment to the Gospel” and urging him to seek forgiveness for what they consider a breach of pastoral duty.

Despite the lavish nature of the event, some guests felt it lacked spiritual significance, with critics suggesting that his choice of entertainment compromised the values he is supposed to uphold as a church leader.

I’m not gay, I’m very straight – Desmond Elliot denies homosexuality allegations

Nollywood actor-turned-politician, Desmond Elliot, has dismissed rumours claiming he is gay.

In a recent interview with TVC, he stated that he is heterosexual and insisted that such reports should be ignored and regarded with the disdain they warrant.

Elliot explained that he felt the article wasn’t worth responding to, which is why he chose to remain silent about the matter.

“Why would I respond to allegations made against me when it did not reduce or increase my life? Secondly, it is an opinion that is being conceived. And I don’t think it is necessary for me to come out and say it’s true or not true; as long as I’m affecting people positively, I’m good.”

Encouraging tolerance, Elliot stated that while everyone has the right to live as they see fit within legal boundaries, mutual respect should remain a priority.

He explained, “If you feel you identify as something, as long as it’s within the law, people don’t have to accept it, do you? So let me say right here, I’m straight… you can never have anyone straighter than me.

If some people want to enjoy themselves through publicity, that’s left to them, but I don’t care really. Do you and enjoy yourself, but do it within the law and with respect to your neighbours.”

Shatta Wale responds to Sally Mann’s ‘Stonebwoy Grammy agenda’ confession

Shatta Wale has fired back after Sally Mann claimed that she and several other key figures in the industry met privately to push Stonebwoy’s interests, sidelining Shatta Wale in the process.

In a recent appearance on an Adom TV show, Sally Mann revealed that she, alongside a few others, held a behind-the-scenes discussion with the aim of boosting Stonebwoy’s career.

She explained that the meeting was necessary because Shatta Wale, in her view, has shown little respect for traditional media.

Sally also used the opportunity to criticise Stonebwoy, accusing him of speaking excessively and unnecessarily in recent times.

“For the past three years, we’ve held caucus meetings to push your agenda because Shatta Wale doesn’t respect traditional media,” Sally said.

“We came together to push you towards winning a Grammy. But now, you’re deviating from the plan by responding to Shatta Wale. How dare you respond to him? The agenda is to sideline Shatta Wale and elevate you, but you’re making it difficult for us. Don’t be a puppet for Shatta Wale,” she added.

Sally Mann’s remarks have sparked a significant online debate, particularly given the ongoing rumours about efforts to marginalize Shatta Wale in the industry.

Shatta Wale has long voiced concerns about what he sees as a concerted effort by industry leaders to undermine him, claiming they’ve been sabotaging his career and blocking his access to opportunities. He has even highlighted that some media outlets have placed a ban on his music.

In light of Sally Mann’s recent comments, Shatta Wale, feeling vindicated, took to social media to share his thoughts on the matter.

“Dem say dem do meeting to bring me down, ooo,” he wrote in a mix of Pidgin and English, alongside a post on Twitter.

  • Kumawood’s Agya Koo blames collapse of industry on Mahama’s ‘dumsor’

Kumawood’s Agya Koo blames collapse of industry on Mahama’s ‘dumsor’

Kumawood star Agya Koo has shared his insights into the factors behind the decline of Ghana’s once-vibrant film industry, noting that frequent power outages during John Dramani Mahama’s presidency had a significant impact on the sector.

“I won’t shy away from the fact that the power issues during Mahama’s time had a huge impact on our industry,” Agya Koo stated during an interview on Lawson Radio.

“Filmmakers depend on reliable electricity to create their work, and without it, production slows down. It contributed to the decline of our industry, and sadly, it wasn’t the only issue.”

Agya Koo’s career, spanning several decades, has solidified him as a key figure in Ghana’s film industry. However, his recent reflections highlight the challenges the sector has faced in recent years.

Known for his iconic roles in Kumawood films, the actor expressed frustration over how frequent power outages in Ghana have disrupted film production, hampering the industry’s output and consistency. While he acknowledged this as a significant issue, he emphasized that it was not the only factor behind the industry’s decline.

Reflecting further on the struggles facing the industry, Agya Koo also addressed rumours suggesting he had assumed a “demigod” status in the film world, clarifying his position and role in the evolving landscape.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQqmu2B-o8w

“Those accusations are baseless,” he asserted firmly. “Yes, I played a major part in the growth of Ghanaian cinema, but I didn’t treat myself like royalty. In the beginning, I didn’t even charge for my work. I just wanted to push the industry forward.”

Agya Koo went on to explain that it wasn’t until later in his career, after establishing himself as a leading actor and producer, that he began requesting a modest fee for his work. “People need to understand that I wasn’t trying to create a sense of entitlement,” he said.

“But as I became more well-known, I had to take my career seriously and ask for compensation for the work I was doing. That’s when the jealousy started to creep in.”

This statement highlights the intricate dynamics within Ghana’s film industry, where early trailblazers often become focal points of discussion, attracting both admiration and criticism as they achieve success.

Agya Koo feels that much of the backlash he experienced stemmed from his swift rise to fame and the public’s perception of his influence in the industry.

“When you become a household name, people tend to have a lot to say, especially if they can’t achieve the same level of success,” he remarked.

On November 5, 2024, Asamoah, a former Schalke 04 player, partnered with the German organization Kinderherzen to bring over 40 medical specialists to Ghana for a charity initiative. The team performed heart surgeries on 27 children at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

He revealed that he once suffered a heart condition that nearly forced him to give up the sport. Grateful for his recovery, Asamoah promised to dedicate his life to supporting others facing similar health challenges.

“In 1998, when I was playing, I had a situation where after one game I wasn’t feeling so well, so I went to the hospital and I was told that I could no longer play football.

As a lover of God, I promised Him that if I made it back to the pitch, I was going to give something back. I came back ten months later and I said, ‘God, you answered my prayers, so I was going to give something back,’” he said.

Gerald Asamoah expressed his heartfelt appreciation to his partners, volunteers, and team members for their dedication and commitment.

He was happy that from humble beginnings, he has built a life where he is able to impact the lives of others.

“I thought it was easy to manage a foundation by just putting money into it, but you need people who will help you. You need committed people, and I have a large team that helps me. I’m really grateful to them. This is like a dream come true for me,” he said.

According to reports, the second installment of the project led by the Gerald Asamoah Foundation and its partners invested over €250,000 to provide medical assistance to more than 27 children in Ghana.

The High Court in Accra has ordered the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) to end its strike action.

CLOGSAG initiated a nationwide strike on November 7, citing delays by the government in finalizing a revised salary structure.

In a statement dated October 22, CLOGSAG had announced its plan to strike, anticipating that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) would not meet the October 31 deadline to complete the new structure.

In a statement released on Monday, November 4, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, expressed doubts that the new salary structure could realistically take effect by January 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, the National Labour Commission (NLC) has secured an injunction to halt the strike.

“My little brother (Stonebwoy), I want to say I am proud of your achievements. But let’s get this straight, I want you to understand that I am not anxious for any feature. The only reason why I did that live TikTok freestyle of your (Jejereje) song was because of the messages I was receiving in my inbox from my fans.

Skewfaze added that he is, however, open to a possible feature if the “Jejereje” singer approaches him.

“But one thing you should also understand is that I don’t know the plans you have with your team on that song. That’s why I said if your team should reach out, I wouldn’t mind doing a verse on it. Because of self-respect, that is why I asked you to call me. GWR: Ghana’s ‘foodie’ Afua Nash exposed over ‘fake’ eat-a-thon

Guinness World Records (GWR) has dismissed claims by Ghanaian content creator Clementina Nkrumah, also known as Afua Nash, regarding her planned attempt to break the record for the longest eating marathon.

Afua Nash had announced a non-stop eating event lasting four days, seven hours, and 20 minutes, set to begin on Monday, November 11, 2024.

The event was to be broadcast live on the Savage Room show at Afropod Studios, and promotional materials shared widely on social media generated significant public interest.

However, GWR clarified on its official Twitter page that it no longer accepts records based on the length of eating marathons. Although such records were once tracked, GWR has since revised its guidelines.

The organisation now limits eating records to short durations, typically three minutes, focusing on the rate of consumption rather than endurance.

Afua Nash has not yet responded to this clarification, but the situation has sparked conversations on social media regarding the authenticity and criteria of record-breaking attempts.

TikTok faces lawsuit in France over allegedl harmful content linked to two suicide cases

Seven families in France have filed a lawsuit against TikTok, claiming the social media platform exposed their teenage children to harmful content, leading to tragic outcomes.

According to their lawyer, Laure Boutron-Marmion, the case alleges that TikTok’s algorithm directed the teens toward videos promoting suicide, self-harm, and eating disorders—content that allegedly contributed to two of the teenagers, both aged 15, taking their own lives.

The families have brought the case to the Créteil judicial court as a joint legal action, marking the first grouped lawsuit of its kind against TikTok in Europe, Boutron-Marmion told franceinfo.

TikTok, like other social media giants, has long been scrutinised for how it monitors content on its platform.

Similar to Meta, which faces numerous lawsuits over Facebook and Instagram, TikTok has been accused in the United States of allegedly enticing and addicting millions of young users, with claims that this damages their mental health.

TikTok has yet to respond to the latest allegations. However, the company has previously emphasised its commitment to addressing issues related to children’s mental health.

Earlier this year, CEO Shou Zi Chew assured U.S. lawmakers that TikTok has invested in various measures aimed at safeguarding young users on the app.

St Johnstone backs down from signing Hearts of Oak defender Dennis Korsah

St Johnstone manager Simo Valakari has confirmed that Ghanaian defender Dennis Nkrumah Korsah will not be joining the squad, explaining that the club already has strong options at left-back.

Korsah, who has earned four caps for Ghana, trained at McDiarmid Park in late October in a session arranged by former manager Craig Levein.

However, St Johnstone’s recent acquisition of experienced left-back Barry Douglas, who previously played for Dundee United, Lech Poznan, and Leeds United, has closed the door on a potential deal for Korsah.

Valakari added that Douglas would likely be the club’s final free-agent signing until the January transfer window.

“Right now, we have Barry (Douglas) and Andre (Raymond) in the left-back position, so we are well stocked,” he told The Courier. “It wouldn’t make sense to add another player. Dennis will find another team.”

He also indicated that St Johnstone would only consider signing additional players in case of an emergency situation. “It would be tough to find more free agents at this point, and we’d only look if we faced a critical need in one position,” he added.

Dennis Nkrumah Korsah departed from Accra Hearts of Oak at the start of the 2024/25 season after fulfilling his contract.

Korsah had joined Hearts of Oak from Ebusua Dwarfs in 2022, playing a key role in the team’s success by helping them secure both the FA Cup and the President’s Cup titles.

What is next for the defender?

Free agent Dennis Korsah will be looking for a new club following the Scottish Club opting out on him. He is likely to return to the Ghana Premier League to continue with his football journey as he eyes another club

This is what Partey eats before every matches

Ghanaian footballer Thomas Partey has shared his favourite pre-match meal, revealing he relies on porridge with coconut milk before every game.

The 31-year-old Arsenal midfielder disclosed his go-to meal during an interview with Arsenal’s media team ahead of last Sunday’s match against Liverpool.

In a video posted by the club on social media, Partey responded with a simple “coconut milk and porridge” when asked about his pre-game food ritual, a routine he says keeps him prepared for the pitch.

Partey, who has excelled both in his primary midfield role and occasionally as a right-back, appears to be sticking with this unique food choice, and some Arsenal fans found his preference amusing and unexpected.

Other Arsenal players also shared their pre-match meal favourites. Mikel Merino, who scored his first goal for Arsenal in their recent 2-2 draw with Liverpool, prefers spaghetti with tomato sauce, while Italy’s Jorginho and Oleksandr Zinchenko both opted for pasta—with Zinchenko adding a twist of “cajun pasta with chicken.”

In the hard-fought match, Arsenal held the lead twice but were met with strong resistance from Arne Slot’s Liverpool side, who equalized both times, ending the game in a draw.

Three suspects charged in connection to death of singer Liam Payne

Argentinian authorities have charged three individuals in connection with the tragic death of former One Direction star Liam Payne, who passed away on October 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires.

One of Payne’s companions has been charged with abandonment leading to death, as well as drug supply and facilitation, according to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office. Additionally, a hotel staff member and another individual face charges related to drug supply. The identities of those charged have not been disclosed.

Payne, 31, was a household name in pop music, known widely for his rise to fame on The X Factor and his success with One Direction in the 2010s. The Argentinian investigation has been closely examining Payne’s last days at the CasaSur hotel, where police reportedly discovered drugs, broken items, and furniture in his room.

Emergency calls from hotel staff indicated they had a guest who had consumed “excessive drugs and alcohol” and was “destroying the room.”

On Thursday, toxicology results revealed traces of alcohol, cocaine, and an antidepressant in Payne’s system. His cause of death was determined to be “multiple trauma” and “internal and external haemorrhaging” caused by the fall. Medical evaluations suggest Payne may have been in a semi- or fully unconscious state when he fell, ruling out the likelihood of a deliberate act, as he was likely unaware of his actions.

Authorities have also conducted nine raids across Buenos Aires, examined Payne’s damaged laptop and other devices, and reviewed more than 800 hours of footage from security cameras in and around the hotel.

They’ve also gathered testimony from numerous individuals, including hotel staff, family, friends, and medical personnel.

Following his death, Payne’s body was released to his family to be brought back to the UK. The news led to an outpouring of tributes from fans and friends, with former partner Cheryl, One Direction members Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Harry Styles expressing their heartbreak in a joint statement, saying they were “devastated” and would forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

Thousands of fans held memorial events worldwide to honour the beloved singer.

Video: Anyone born and raised in Kumasi is a scammer – Kumawood’s Big Akwes

Ghanaian Kumawood actor Big Akwes has sparked controversy with remarks about life in Kumasi, alleging that everyone born and raised in the city is involved in scamming.

In an interview on Angel TV, he claimed that many people in Kumasi, from leaders to everyday citizens, including pastors, engage in fraudulent activities, suggesting that it’s a widespread way of life in the city.

“Anyone born and grown up in Kumasi is a scammer; I insist on what I say. I’m saying that everyone, from the leadership to the lowest person, including pastors, are scammers.

Because if you check the young boys at Kejetia, can’t you see what they do to people’s phones?… What I am saying doesn’t have anything to do with the TV station,” he asserted.

In the same interview, Big Akwes denied rumours of a marital relationship with Freda, the ex-wife of another actor, clarifying that he had never married her.

“I have done nothing to her, and I don’t remember ever marrying her. I don’t want to discuss this because I have international partners watching, and it could jeopardise plans. If you want more details, you should ask Freda, not me,” he responded.

Ghanaian Kumawood actor Akwasi Asamoah, widely known as Big Akwes, has responded to recent statements made by his ex-wife, Freda, who claimed that marrying him stands as her greatest regret.

In his subtle reply, Big Akwes acknowledged the remarks surrounding their past relationship. The pair exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Kumasi in August 2023.

However, their marriage was short-lived, as they decided to part ways a few months later due to ongoing challenges within their union.

Court rejects Charles Bissue’s lawsuit against the OSP

Human Rights Court has ruled against Charles Bissue in his case against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), instructing him to pay a penalty of GH₵10,000 for causing unnecessary delays in court proceedings.

The court found Bissue’s claims—that the OSP had unlawfully obtained an arrest warrant to harass him—to be without basis, describing them as a “figment of his imagination.”

The case originated from an injunction obtained by Bissue, in which he sought a 10-day ex parte order to prevent the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from arresting him.

Bissue’s legal team contended that the OSP had unlawfully secured an arrest warrant aimed at their client. However, the court clarified that the OSP had not, in fact, obtained such a warrant.

In his judicial review application, Bissue requested the cancellation of an alleged arrest warrant, the invalidation of a notice declaring him wanted by the OSP, and a prohibition on any further arrest attempts until the matter was resolved.

Justice Nana Brew presided over the case and thoroughly reviewed the evidence. He pointed out that the central issue was whether the Kaneshie District Court had issued an arrest warrant in favour of the OSP.

Justice Brew ruled that the responsibility to prove the existence of such a warrant rested with Bissue, which he failed to do.

As a result, the judge dismissed the application and ordered Bissue to pay ₵10,000 in costs to the OSP.

Court orders Man City to pay part of Benjamin Mendy’s £11m unpaid wages

French footballer Benjamin Mendy is set to receive a significant portion of the £11 million in wages owed by his former club, Manchester City, following a ruling at the Manchester Employment Tribunal.

According to The Mirror, Mendy won the majority of his £11 million claim against Manchester City.

Employment Judge Joanne Dunlop provided further details on the decision at the tribunal.

“[Mendy is] entitled to recover some, but not all, of the sums claimed. While Mendy was not in custody, he was ready and willing to work and was prevented from doing so due to circumstances that were unavoidable or involuntary on his part.

“In those circumstances, and absent any authorisation in the contract for the employer to withhold pay, he was entitled to be paid,” the judge said.

FC Lorient defender Benjamin Mendy was suspended from football in August 2021 following his arrest on charges of sexual offences, including rape.

After being held in custody for five months, Manchester City withheld his salary, which remained unpaid until his contract expired in June 2023.

In January 2023, however, Mendy was acquitted of six rape charges and a sexual assault charge after a lengthy trial.

Kumawood actor Frank Nero has expressed dissatisfaction over a rumour circulating on social media, alleging that he has had an affair with actress Emelia Brobbey.

In an interview with Abro GH TV on November 7, 2024, the actor stated that he views Emelia Brobbey as an elder sister and is disturbed by attempts on social media to tarnish his reputation.

“Let me start by saying that I have not had any sexual intercourse with Emelia Brobbey. I even respect her and can’t even look her in the face. I initially didn’t want to talk about it, but I think it’s time Ghanaians stop speculating about these issues,” he said.

He also urged Ghanaians to avoid spreading misinformation about actors, noting the potential harm to their reputations.

“It’s time we stop these things because people can just tarnish your hard-earned reputation, knowing you won’t complain. Just because people knew me when I was growing up doesn’t mean I am still a kid.

“They shouldn’t judge me based on roles I might have played before,” he added.

    Background

Allegations recently surfaced on social media linking actress Emelia Brobbey to a scandal involving her colleague Frank Nero.

Two TikTok users claimed that Frank Nero had been romantically involved with the actress.

In a separate interview on Fakye Showbiz on November 3, 2024, Emelia Brobbey addressed these accusations, stating that those trying to damage her reputation would face consequences, as she has left the matter in God’s hands.

President Akufo-Addo unveiled a statue of himself on Wednesday, November 6, at the entrance of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi during his one-day ‘thank you’ tour of the Western Region.

The event has sparked reactions from some members of the public.

Find below how the BBC reported Akufo-Addo’s unveiling of his own statue:

Uproar in Ghana after president unveils his own statue

Ghana’s outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo is facing a backlash on social media after he unveiled a statue of himself during a tour of the country’s Western Region.

The monument is intended to honour the development initiatives the president has overseen whilst in office, the region’s minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah says.

But many Ghanaians have been mocking its installation – outside a hospital in the city of Sekondi – seeing it as “self glorification”.

“The people of the Western Region deserve better than these self-serving displays,” opposition MP Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah posted on X.

Akufo-Addo, who will be standing down in January after two terms in power, has boasted that he has fulfilled 80% of his promises to Ghanaians.

He unveiled the monument, prominently placed in front of Sekondi’s Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, on Wednesday during his visit that has been dubbed a “thank-you tour”.

At the ceremony, Darko-Mensah, who oversees the Western Region, highlighted several key projects initiated under the president.

But the statue has sparked a wave of criticism, with some Ghanaians questioning its importance when several key projects remain incomplete.

“It would be admirable if the president had allowed posterity to recognise and appreciate his work,” an X user posted.

A section of the public is calling for the statue – photos of which have gone viral – to be pulled down after the president leaves office.

But not everyone is critical, with some seeing it as an acknowledgement of Akufo-Addo’s contributions to the development of the country.

“He is very deserving of this exquisite monument. The greatest president I’ve ever had. You will be missed by Ghanaians,” one person posted, adding that Akufo-Addo was the “founder of Ghana’s free education system”.

During his tour, the 80-year-old president has singled out his policy to scrap fees for secondary schools as his “most significant legacy”.

His visit has also fed into campaigning nationwide by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). Western Region, in the south-west, is one of 16 regions in the country.

The president urged people there to vote for his deputy, Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, in next month’s general election.

He will be the NPP’s candidate and Akufo-Addo said a vote for him would see the continuation of the party’s policies and projects.

Bawumia’s main challenger will be former President John Dramani Mahama, who is seeking a comeback under the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The high cost of living is a key campaign issue in Ghana, Africa’s leading producer of gold.

Bawumia launches Ghana’s credit scoring system

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially launched Ghana’s National Credit Scoring System, known as MyCreditScore, in a move aimed at enhancing financial inclusion and supporting the formalisation of the economy.

This innovative system seeks to revolutionise how Ghanaians access credit, offering a digital, cash-free method for making purchases while promoting a culture of financial responsibility.

Developed in collaboration with private sector partners, MyCreditScore introduces a new credit scoring model that evaluates individuals based on their financial behaviour and payment history.

This will help make it easier for Ghanaians to secure loans and financing, enabling them to build and manage their credit profiles effectively.

During the launch, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the system’s potential to empower individuals and help financial institutions by encouraging responsible lending.

He noted that the initiative could also help address the issue of non-performing loans (NPLs), which has been a concern for banks and financial institutions in Ghana.

With MyCreditScore, Ghanaians will be able to make purchases and conduct transactions without needing cash upfront, easing the financial strain on consumers while helping them establish a positive credit history.

The platform is designed to be accessible to all Ghanaians, with financial institutions, lenders, and merchants urged to adopt it, ensuring seamless credit access across various sectors.

Dr. Bawumia emphasised that this initiative aligns with the government’s broader goals of creating a digital and inclusive economy, marking a key step in Ghana’s progress towards economic resilience and digital transformation.

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is set to announce his squad for the final two matches in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Addo is expected to make significant adjustments to the lineup following disappointing performances in previous qualifying matches and recent injuries.

Among the notable absences will be Mohammed Salisu, who suffered an injury in Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Sudan in October.

With just two points from four games, Ghana faces the risk of missing out on the 2025 AFCON. The Black Stars have yet to secure a win in the qualifiers, recording two losses and two draws.

To qualify, Ghana will need to win both of their remaining matches against Angola and Niger while hoping for Sudan to lose in their respective fixtures.

The team will take on Angola in Luanda on November 15, followed by a home game against Niger on November 18 to conclude the qualifying series.

Entertainment pundit and show host Sally Mann has stated that Dancehall artist Shatta Wale poses no threat to her, even if she criticises him.

During a Joy Prime interview on November 7, 2024, the outspoken journalist noted that the “On God” hitmaker, like herself, merely voices his grievances on social media.

“I have been in the industry for 18 years, and I know the way I am an audio person, people are equally audio. So when people say the SM and Ashiaman fans, I also see them be audio people; they loud it on the internet, and it ends there.

I do not think Shatta Wale would send someone after my life because I criticised him,” she said.

Sally also encouraged journalists to remain outspoken and impartial in their criticism, without bias.

“So we need people who can criticise people in the industry. We all can’t be licking people’s feet. We should have people who can tell the truth as it is, and I am glad I am part of those people.

I want to be that voice, and I have been doing this for 18 years. People keep asking, Who am I? I am a nobody, but I have the platform they don’t,” she added.

2024 elections: I have the NPP flag, and I pray against them everyday; they’ve hurt Ghana – Nigel Gaisie

Founder of Prophetic Hill Chapel, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, has stated that he is fervently praying against the New Patriotic Party’s victory in the 2024 general elections. Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on November 6, 2024, Gaisie criticised the NPP, accusing them of negatively impacting both the church and the nation.

He urged Ghanaians to hold the party accountable in the upcoming elections.

Gaisie shared that he is engaging in fasting and prayers for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and for Ghana as a whole, expressing strong dissatisfaction with the current administration.

“I’m fasting for the NDC. I’m fasting for Ghana. I’m praying against the NPP government. I have their flag. Every day, I’m dealing with it. They have hurt the church, they have hurt the nation, and they have to go. Ghanaians must punish them,” he said.

When questioned about his authority to influence voters, Prophet Gaisie responded, “I’m a prophet of God. A prophet is a messenger of the Almighty God.”

He defended his prophecies, stating that he has seen the vision over 1,000 times and has even travelled to Israel to pray about it since November last year.

“When I see it and I go back, I’ll get it right. Some of it. I’ll just see it in a trance or a vision and I’m not so interested. I’ll not investigate it. But about this prophecy. I’ve travelled on it, gone to Israel, and prayed about it since November last year. I’m fasting so I can’t get it wrong,” he said.

Asked if his stance was because he was sponsored by a political party, Prophet Gaisie denied any financial support from any party.

“Nobody has sponsored me. Nobody has given me a dime. I don’t even know anybody,” he clarified.

Gaisie’s remarks come as Ghana prepares for the December 7, 2024 elections, where citizens will choose their next president and parliamentary representatives.

With election day nearing, political campaigns have ramped up, with candidates employing various strategies to win over voters.

A degrading myth – Actress Monalisa on narrative of women sleeping their way to the top

Nollywood actress Monalisa Chinyere Chinda has dispelled the stereotype that women in powerful positions achieved their success by “sleeping their way” to the top.

Speaking at the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network event in Abuja, Nigeria, Monalisa addressed widespread misconceptions surrounding women’s achievements in professional settings.

She emphasized that hard work, dedication, and respect are the real foundations for attaining success.

“People think that for a woman to rise to the top, they must sleep their way through. It’s such a myth. I want us, every other lady here, and even the ones who are listening to us on social media.

“You don’t need to sleep your way. And this belief is one of the most damaging assumptions about women in the workplace. It minimises our hard work, our dedication and our talent. It tries to make it seem like our achievements aren’t earned,” she said.

Monalisa shared her personal journey, highlighting her transition from acting to publishing with the launch of Mona Lisa magazine.

She encouraged women to learn and develop skills in unfamiliar fields, stressing that they should adopt the habit of continuous self-improvement.

“As women, we don’t need shortcuts. We don’t need to play by someone else’s rules. Lay down your own rules. That is what we need, to find when we find ourselves in jobs that we don’t know anything about. Let’s learn in that job. Let’s work on ourselves, let’s develop our skills. It’s so critical,” she added.

The actress credited her accomplishments to discipline, hard work, and a strong sense of purpose, encouraging young women to dream boldly and remain determined, even when faced with setbacks.

‘Blacko, watch how you deal with me; I can end your career” – Shatta Wale warns

Ghanaian reggae/dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, known widely as Shatta Wale, has warned singer Black Sherif, saying he could end his career if Black Sherif speaks negatively about him.

Shatta Wale took to X on November 4, 2024, to voice his displeasure after Black Sherif posted a picture of him on Snapchat with a comment about his fashion sense.

Shatta Wale advised the “Kilos Milos” singer to be mindful of his remarks in the music industry, warning that if he crosses the line, he won’t hesitate to put an end to Black Sherif’s career.

“Black Sherif, you are new in the music industry. If you have heard them saying I have said something about you, you won’t go and watch the podcast and know the good things I said about you.

Blacko, this is the same thing Sarkodie did; now people think he is my enemy. Go and ask; I can end careers, and if you don’t take time, I would end yours,” he said.

    Background

During an October 31, 2024, appearance on the Bant, Rants, and Confessions podcast, Shatta Wale shared his thoughts on Black Sherif’s style, suggesting that the singer could improve his fashion choices.

In response, the “Kilos Milos” hitmaker took to Snapchat, posting a picture of Shatta Wale with the caption, “I plaster everywhere,” hinting at his displeasure.

Fans and social media users have since weighed in, offering a range of perspectives on the exchange between the two musicians.

  • AMAA replies Gloria Sarfo over claims of being deliberately embarrassed at airport

AMAA replies Gloria Sarfo over claims of being deliberately embarrassed at airport

Country Director for the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Judith Oluwole, has responded to recent concerns about travel complications encountered by some delegates attending the 20th edition of the awards.

This follows criticism from Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo, who publicly addressed issues with flight tickets that left several Ghanaian filmmakers stranded at Kotoka International Airport.

Sarfo, in a video shared on social media, stated that the provided tickets were unusable, preventing over fifteen filmmakers and media professionals from boarding their flights. Those who managed to attend reportedly faced accommodation challenges as well.

In an interview with Hitz FM, Oluwole clarified that the term “stranded” was overstated, emphasizing that AMAA had made all the necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth travel of delegates from across Africa. She attributed the delays experienced by some attendees, including those from Ghana and Uganda, to unexpected technical issues with the airline.

“An event of this magnitude cannot bring the calibre of artists, including those who are going to perform, that we have paid to perform to the airport at that time and decide or deliberately abandon or embarrass them for whatever reasons being circulated,” she said.

Oluwole explained that to mitigate the situation, AMAA’s CEO personally intervened, arranging alternative flights and communicating directly with affected delegates to assure them of their importance to the event.

She stressed that the delays were beyond the organisation’s control and not a deliberate attempt to embarrass anyone.

“For some reason, which is beyond our knowledge and control, there was an issue.

“These are challenges that you cannot control as an organisation because you don’t have your own airline or personal jet to transport all your people. So we tried as much as possible, even if it was at the last minute, to assist. I mean, all of this looks like someone is trying to gain publicity for themselves out of these situations,” she added.

According to her, despite these challenges, many delegates were able to attend the event.

Oluwole also addressed rumours of fake tickets, urging the media to investigate and provide evidence if such claims were true.

“If we later hear stories about fake tickets, which I know nothing about, I would like the media to investigate if any fake tickets were issued to anyone. Anyone making such claims should come forward with evidence of the tickets that we allegedly gave to ensure they were embarrassed because I don’t even know what we would gain from that embarrassment,” she said.

Oluwole reiterated AMAA’s dedication to celebrating African cinema and its ongoing efforts to ensure the success of its events, despite occasional travel difficulties.

  • Govt backs GHC 3.3bn PFJ 2.0 with GHC2.7bn as farmers decry political interference

Govt backs GHC 3.3bn PFJ 2.0 with GHC2.7bn as farmers decry political interference

Government is expected to allocate GH¢2.7 billion to fund the second phase of the GH¢3.3 billion Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) initiative, intended to boost the country’s agricultural productivity.

This funding, detailed in the Ministry of Food and Agriculture’s 2024-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), represents over 80% of the program’s total budget, with the remaining funds to be provided by international development partners.

According to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, PFJ 2.0 is designed to modernise farming practices, aiming to make Ghana self-sufficient in staple food commodities by 2028. The initiative promises advancements in crop and livestock production, irrigation systems, and sustainable land management.

The ministry has emphasised that the program’s success hinges on the full cooperation of stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.

However, despite the government’s significant financial commitment, the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has raised concerns over the program’s implementation. PFAG and several farming groups argue that PFJ 2.0 has been compromised by political interference, which they claim hampers its effectiveness.

According to PFAG, many farmers have not received adequate support or inclusion in the program, with nearly 80% of farmers reportedly unregistered by the third quarter of 2024.

PFAG has suggested that the Ministry’s technical directors, rather than political figures, should lead the project to ensure it meets farmers’ needs directly.

The association has described PFJ 2.0 as uninspiring, citing a lack of tangible, solution-oriented strategies. PFAG claims that critical areas such as irrigation expansion and road infrastructure improvements—key components for effective agricultural policy—have been neglected under PFJ 2.0.

By addressing these issues, PFAG believes the program could better serve Ghana’s farmers and the broader agricultural sector, ultimately contributing to sustainable food security and economic resilience.

  • AG Godfred Dame calls for 1,500 more state attorneys to fix legal service gaps

AG Godfred Dame calls for 1,500 more state attorneys to fix legal service gaps

Attorney General (AG), Godfred Dame, has urged the government to recruit an additional 1,500 state attorneys to strengthen the legal infrastructure supporting public institutions.

He outlined this need during the opening ceremony of the Conference of Public Sector Lawyers at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, attended by President Akufo-Addo and other officials.

Dame pointed out that Ghana currently has around 370 state attorneys serving the public sector, a number he argued is insufficient given the growing complexity of the country’s legal needs.

Addressing the president directly, he noted the recent recruitment drive under Akufo-Addo’s administration, which will soon bring 70 new attorneys on board. With these appointments, a total of 190 attorneys will have joined the Attorney General’s office during the president’s tenure.

To ensure more effective governance, Dame called for a model where at least one state attorney is stationed at every ministry, department, agency (MDA), and district assembly.

“Mr. President, I cannot resume my seat without commenting on the need to enhance the capacity of the Office of the A-G to place it in the position to rise to the demands of the complexity of modern legal needs of the state,” he said. This, he explained, would address inefficiencies and improve coordination across government functions.

A core issue, Dame highlighted, is the lack of centralization in government legal work. Presently, some public sector institutions employ their own lawyers, leading to gaps in coordination.

“The situation whereby some ministries, departments, agencies or, metropolitan, municipal and district assembly employ their own lawyers does not augur well for proper harmony and synchronisation of government’s legal work,” Dame noted.

His vision, he added, is for all public sector lawyers to be employed directly through the Attorney General’s office to establish a unified approach to government legal services.

Dame also took the opportunity to commend President Akufo-Addo for his ongoing support of the Attorney General’s office. Among the achievements noted were recent infrastructure upgrades, including the new 12-story headquarters, Law House, completed five months ago.

Dame added that in the next administration, “every regional office of the Ministry of Justice will own its permanent office building,” underscoring plans for continued investment in the legal sector’s infrastructure.

Dame’s call for additional attorneys aims to enhance cohesion, reduce legal bottlenecks, and support a more efficient public sector in Ghana.

  • GFP is still in the race – EC denies party’s withdrawal from 2024 election

GFP is still in the race – EC denies party’s withdrawal from 2024 election

The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has plunged into internal conflict following conflicting statements from party officials over its participation in the upcoming December 2024 presidential election.

Earlier reports suggested that the GFP had officially withdrawn from the race, with a letter supposedly signed by National Organizer Richard Botchway addressed to the Electoral Commission stating that the party would not contest.

However, GFP General Secretary George Afful has refuted these claims, calling the letter “fake news” and denouncing Botchway’s actions as criminal.

Afful, in an interview with the media, reportedly accused Botchway of acting independently and falsely claiming the party’s withdrawal.

“It is fake news that we have withdrawn. At 1:07 pm at the Electoral Commission (EC), we successfully filed our nomination. Philip Appiah Kubi, known as Roman Fada, is our candidate,” Afful asserted.

He also declared, “He [the National Organiser] is a criminal. He is a criminal,” indicating serious divisions within the party.

To affirm this rebuttal,  the EC has confirmed that indeed the GFP remains in the 2024 presidential race, dispelling rumours of the party’s withdrawal. Deputy Director of Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation at the Electoral Commission, Fred Tetteh, confirmed the GFP’s active candidature in an engagement with The Independent Ghana.

It’s not true, Mr Tetteh said when The Independent Ghana enquired.

The confusion emerged after the passing of the GFP’s founder and original flag bearer, Madam Akua Donkor, who died on October 28. Following her death, the Electoral Commission had directed the GFP to nominate a new candidate within ten days to retain its ballot position.

The party selected Philip Appiah Kubi as Donkor’s replacement, and Afful confirmed that his nomination has been formally submitted.

The conflicting statements between the National Organiser and General Secretary underscore growing internal tensions, casting uncertainty on the GFP’s preparedness and unity ahead of the 2024 general elections.

  • Angels were in my room while I was recording my hit song, ‘On God’ – Shatta Wale

Angels were in my room while I was recording my hit song, ‘On God’ – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale recently claimed that angels were present in his room while he recorded his hit song, On God. Known for his creativity and versatility, Shatta Wale released the track in 2022, quickly turning it into an anthem beloved by fans.

In an appearance on Rants, Bants, and Confessions with Efia Odo, the Killa Gi Mi hitmaker shared what inspired the creation of On God. He revealed that comparisons between himself and Black Sherif by industry insiders fueled his motivation to produce the song.

“When Black Sherif came out, there was a whole lot of comparisons, but I am the type of person who can break your career with one song.

When they were saying that, it made me record ‘On God’ and I was like, God, why are you letting these people do this to me? Let’s play something,” he said.

“I sat in my room, and when I was playing the song, angels were in my room, and that is what people don’t know. The song was so spiritual to me before it came out, so when I sit down and see all these comparisons, I go like, Please don’t try and fight what you don’t know,” Wale stated.

He went on to boast that in the Ghanaian entertainment fraternity, “I am like the phoenix.”

Arsenal reportedly eyeing Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman

Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Nigerian forward and Atalanta star Ademola Lookman, following his impressive performances this season. The Gunners, who have struggled to find consistent form in their attacking lineup, are eager to enhance their offensive options.

With some of their key forwards facing challenges, Arsenal are exploring ways to boost their firepower. Leandro Trossard has been linked to a potential move to Saudi Arabia, while Gabriel Martinelli has not yet regained his top form. Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling, on loan from Chelsea, has struggled to make a strong impact.

Lookman has enjoyed an exceptional start to the season, continuing his strong form from last year. Recently, he netted twice in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Napoli and has tallied six goals and four assists in the Italian Serie A so far.

His outstanding play has even earned him a 14th-place finish in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings, making him a top contender for African Player of the Year.

Caught Offside reports that Arsenal are actively considering a move for Lookman and may look to offload one of their current forwards to make room for him. The London club had also shown interest in signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen over the summer but ultimately decided against it due to Napoli’s high asking price.

Additionally, Ghanaian international and West Ham player Mohammed Kudus remains on their radar.

Salma Mumin defends Salifu Amoako’s son over East Legon accident

Ghanaian actress Salma Mumin recently spoke out in defence of Elrad Amoako, son of Salifu Amoako, after a tragic car accident in East Legon that claimed the lives of two young girls.

Appearing on UTV’s United Showbiz, Mumin expressed sympathy for Elrad, urging the public to be more understanding. She emphasized that the incident was “unintentional,” noting the unpredictable nature of accidents, and asked Ghanaians to consider the emotional toll on Elrad’s family.

The accident, which occurred on October 12, 2024, involved a Jaguar SUV belonging to Elrad’s mother, which collided with an Acura, igniting a severe fire. The blaze tragically claimed the lives of 12-year-olds Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh Boateng.

Following the incident, Salifu Amoako, his wife, and another individual faced charges for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate the vehicle.

In her remarks, Salma Mumin stated that “the boy did not use a gun in taking the lives of the kids,” a comment that some perceived as downplaying the seriousness of the young girls’ deaths.

Salma Mumin’s comments have sparked backlash, with many criticising her stance as insensitive.

Elrad Salifu Amoako, son of Prophet Salifu Amoako, has been remanded by the Juvenile Court in Accra in connection with the fatal East Legon accident that tragically killed two young girls. Appearing before the court on November 1, 2024, Elrad’s Ghanaian and U.S. passports were confiscated.

Footage of the accident reportedly shows Pastor Salifu’s 16-year-old son driving at high speed before the crash. Elrad is expected to reappear in court on November 7, 2024.

Lightning strike kills one player, injures four others during football match in Peru

A lightning strike tragically claimed the life of one player and left four others injured during a lower-division league match in Peru on Sunday, November 3, 2025.

The game, held at Coto Coto Stadium between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca, had been paused due to worsening weather conditions when the incident occurred.

Footage aired by local broadcaster Onda Deportiva Huancavelica showed players beginning to exit the field as a storm intensified.

Suddenly, a lightning bolt struck two players directly: Jose Hugo de la Cruz Meza and goalkeeper Juan Chocca Llacta. The force of the impact sent the rest of the players to the ground.

De la Cruz was killed instantly, while Llacta was rushed to the hospital by taxi, with a total of five players sustaining injuries. Among those injured were two teenagers, aged 16 and 19, who were treated for minor injuries following the incident.

“We join in solidarity and extend our sincere condolences to the family of young Hugo De La Cruz, who, after being struck by lightning, unfortunately lost his life while being taken to the hospital.

We also express our support and wishes for a speedy recovery to the other four players injured in this tragic accident,” the local municipality said in a statement quoted by CNN.

Peruvian national news channel Andina has reported that two of the four injured players have been discharged, while the other two are in stable condition but remain under medical observation.

The last recorded incident of this kind occurred in 2020, when a 16-year-old Russian goalkeeper was struck by lightning during a training session.

He survived the traumatic experience and made a full recovery after undergoing intensive treatment, which included being placed in a coma.
