Floods in Spain: Ancelotti says “football had to stop and then help”

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has expressed that football in Spain should have been suspended in light of the devastating flash floods that resulted in over 215 fatalities in the Valencia region.

Following La Liga’s request to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Real Madrid’s match in Valencia and Villarreal’s game against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga were postponed.

Despite these cancellations, six other top-flight matches proceeded over the weekend. Last week, six Copa del Rey fixtures involving La Liga clubs, including Valencia, were also postponed as authorities advised against non-essential travel in the affected areas .

“Football is a party and you can only celebrate and party when you, your family and everybody is well. When people are not well, you don’t party,” said Ancelotti.

“Football has to stop. Because it is the most important of the least important things in life.

“But we are not the decision-makers. We have to follow the instructions of those who are in charge.

“There are many ways to help. Football had to stop and then help. Everyone has been clear about it – nobody wanted to play.”

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has said it made “no sense” for games to go ahead at the weekend, and Barcelona’s Hansi Flick said he would have cancelled them.

Real host AC Milan in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday.

Ancelotti won eight trophies, including two Champions League titles, as Milan manager from 2001 to 2009.

His Real team lost 4-0 to Barcelona on 26 October, and two days later Real striker Vinicius Jr finished second behind Rodri for the Ballon d’Or.

Football matters have since been firmly put in perspective by the tragedy in Valencia.

“It was supposed to be a special game for me, facing Milan. But there is no meaning in talking about football now,” said Ancelotti.

“It has been a difficult week, not because of what happened with the Ballon d’Or or El Clasico. It happened and that’s that – congratulations to the winners.

“Our sadness is not about that. It is for what is happening here in Spain.”

The Valencia region has recently experienced an overwhelming amount of rainfall, equivalent to an entire year’s worth, causing significant disruption. On Sunday, during a visit to the hard-hit town of Paiporta, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain faced backlash from angry protesters, who threw mud and other objects at them.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was also targeted but was evacuated quickly to ensure his safety.

In Barcelona, torrential rain led to severe flooding on Monday, resulting in chaos at El Prat Airport, where over 60 flights were either canceled, delayed, or rerouted. Additionally, rail services were suspended due to the adverse weather conditions .

Dafeamekpor takes Speaker to High Court to affirm vacant seats ruling

Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has filed a writ at the Accra High Court against the Speaker, Alban Bagbin.

In this writ, Dafeamekpor is seeking a court order to clarify the status of four legislative seats he claims are currently vacant.

The MP asserts that the Speaker must officially declare that these four legislators have relinquished their seats to run as independent candidates in the upcoming elections.

Furthermore, he contends that any parliamentary sessions involving these members after October 17 would be deemed unlawful and invalid.

Dafeamekpor supports his position by referencing Article 97(1)(g) and (h) of the 1992 Constitution, which he believes underpins the legality of the Speaker’s actions concerning the seats in question.

The MP, therefore, asserted his claim that “an order should be directed at the Defendant to ensure that Mr Andrew Amoako Asiamah, Member of Parliament for Fomena; Mrs Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Member of Parliament for Agona West; Mr Kwadwo Asante, Member of Parliament for Sohum; and Mr Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, no longer have access to the chamber of Parliament to participate in parliamentary proceedings.”

This situation has ignited a lively debate within Ghana’s judicial community, with opinions split regarding the Speaker’s declaration. Supporters argue that the Speaker acted within legal parameters, while critics contend that he failed to follow the established rules governing parliamentary procedures.

In the meantime, Parliament has remained inactive since the Supreme Court raised objections to the declaration of the vacant seats, further complicating the legislative process.

    Below is the full writ.

Bawku conflict: Gunmen attack students bus; burn their driver to death

A tragic incident has occurred involving a driver transporting students from Kongo Senior High School (SHS) in Nabdam to Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

The driver lost his life when armed assailants attacked the vehicle, as reported by Adomonline.com.

The attack unfolded around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, in front of Bawku SHS while the students were returning from Widana. The gunmen forcibly removed the students from the vehicle and subsequently set it ablaze with the driver still inside.

This violent act is believed to be linked to the ongoing chieftaincy conflict in Bawku, which has intensified recently. Since the resurgence of this dispute, approximately 21 people have been killed, following the return of a rival chief deemed illegitimate by the government.

In a separate incident just days earlier, on Sunday, October 27, 2024, armed men obstructed the Bolgatanga-Tamale road near the village of Gbimsi and opened fire on travellers, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals.

The attackers also set up barricades to target specific individuals, leading to heightened security concerns in the area, with two vehicles also being torched.

The string of violent incidents has raised alarm about safety in the region, underscoring the ongoing challenges posed by the chieftaincy dispute and its impact on the local community.

“I was traveling from Sunyani to Paga. Upon reaching Walewale, people had mounted roadblocks and were searching for individuals to kill. The incident lasted for more than an hour, yet security did not respond,” a survivor recounted of the terrifying ordeal.

    CLOGSAG announces nationwide strike

Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared a nationwide strike effective November 7, 2024.

This follows a notice served on October 23, 2024, over what CLOGSAG described as the prolonged delay in finalising a salary structure for staff and implemented from January 1, 2025.

The declaration, according to the association, is in line with the expiration of an October 31 deadline for the government to meet their demands.

In a statement, CLOGSAG said despite multiple meetings since then, the government has yet to make a concrete offer.

They have therefore decided not to have anything to do with the Fair Wages and the Salaries Commission (FWSC) because it has acted in bad faith.

“As a result of the delay in the completion of salary structure and other conditions of service, CLOGSAG members have no other option than to stay at home from November 7, 2024,” portions of the statement read.

This is what really happened: The alleged ‘confusion’ between Drogba’s mistress and wife at Ballon d’Or event

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba became the subject of viral social media buzz following a moment at the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony on October 28 in Paris, France,, where he appeared to be at the center of an unintended interaction involving two women.

In the widely shared video, Drogba arrived at the event accompanied by his rumored girlfriend, Gabrielle Lemaire.

However, as he was being ushered onto the red carpet by journalist and co-host Sandy Heribert, there was an accidental, light brush between Heribert’s sleeve and Lemaire’s face.

This brief incident has sparked a range of online speculations. Some social media users misinterpreted the video, mistakenly identifying Heribert as Drogba’s wife and suggesting that she showed up to disrupt his evening with a “mistress.”

In reality, Heribert was simply doing her job as an event co-host.

Drogba, who has remained single since his 2021 divorce from Lalla, his wife of 20 years, has not remarried.

“(I) am not used to discussing my private life, but due to speculation in the media today, I will confirm that unfortunately, after 20 years together, Lalla and I have made the difficult decision to go our separate ways.” He announced the separation via an Instagram post.

“We remain very close, and our main goal has been our children and to protect them and the privacy of the family,” he added.

3 things I do to deal with critics and criticisms —Stonebwoy details

Reggae and Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has explained how he deals with critics and criticisms in his line of work.

Speaking during an appearance on Onua TV’s Onua Show Time with Nana Ama McBrown on November 3, 2024, the “Bawasaba” singer discussed his music and shared insights about his career and new album, which features his recent hit song “Jejereje”.

Responding to how he deals with his somewhat constant criticisms he noted that, the first thing he does anytime is to take it to the place of prayer.

He seeks divine guidance to help discern when to respond to critics and when to let things go. He doesn’t believe in ignoring all criticism entirely, likening it to someone who, if continually poked in the leg and ignores it, may eventually lose their legs.

Stonebwoy however went on to emphasise the importance of addressing certain criticisms, acknowledging that some responses are necessary for personal and public clarity.

“I don’t believe in just getting used to criticisms and insults. Imagine someone constantly poking your leg, and you decide to ignore it. Eventually, your leg would go numb. For me, I pray for wisdom to know when to respond, when to let things go, and when to stand up for myself.

Almost every morning, I wake up to people talking about me—thousands of comments, sometimes even from the same person. But you have to ignore most of it and focus. As the saying goes, ‘It’s only a ripe pawpaw that everyone throws a stick at,’ and I try to keep that in mind as I move forward

King Paluta apologizes for no-show at Oyibi’s Lochers Lounge event

Highlife and Afrobeat singer King Paluta has issued an apology for missing his scheduled performance at Lochers Lounge in Oyibi last Saturday. This apology came after a video surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) showing frustrated fans expressing their disappointment over the absence of the “Aseda” hitmaker.

According to the disgruntled fans, King Paluta had arrived earlier in the evening to pick up some packs of Jollof rice, promising to return shortly for his performance.

However, he never reappeared, leaving fans waiting until 4 a.m. and disappointed by the no-show.

The video, featuring around four men, was filled with frustration as they directed insults and curses at King Paluta, comparing him to more established artists like Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.

They emphasized that, despite their fame, those artists wouldn’t have treated fans in the way Paluta did by failing to return for his performance.

In response to these, King Paluta in a 39 seconds video apologised for his actions appealing to his fans to keep supporting his craft and pledged to show up to make history.

“Greetings lovely people, its your man King Paluta. Today was supposed to perform at Oyibi Lochers Lounge, but due to some few circumstances , some few ups-and -downs I couldn’t perform.

It’s not our fault, it’s not the organisers fault, but sometimes it happens like this so we are saying sorry to you guys. We are going to come here again and we are going to do this together.
We are going to make history together, forgive us; sorry to the fans and keep supporting King Paluta. I love you guys” he apologised

Exploring movie directing, production has been another growth opportunity for me – Emelia Brobbey

Emelia Brobbey has expressed pride in her adaptability within the entertainment industry and shared her enthusiasm about stepping into the roles of director and producer for her own movie projects.

In an interview on One Ghana TV, Emelia discussed her journey from acting to directing, highlighting her excitement about working behind the scenes.

While she already has experience in production, she explained that directing has introduced her to a new set of challenges and opportunities to grow, making her proud of her progress and excited about the future.

“Even now, as I explore directing, I’m constantly learning from him. His passion and meticulous attention to detail keep me grounded and inspired,” she said, highlighting her mentor Samual Nyamekye’s valuable impact.

Her latest film not only marks her directorial debut but also presents a unique acting challenge.

“In this movie, I had to play the husband of Mr. Nyamekye,” she laughed, recalling the initial difficulty of portraying a role opposite someone she views as a father figure.

“It took me out of my comfort zone, but that’s the beauty of directing and acting; you adapt, find your character’s truth, and bring that to the audience.”

A remix of Jejereje with Screwfaze wouldn’t add any significant commercial value – Stonebwoy

Ghanaian dancehall artist Stonebwoy has revealed that creating a remix of his latest track, Jejereje, with hiplife artist Screwfaze may not be a financially advantageous move for him.

Speaking on Onua Showtime on November 3, 2024, Stonebwoy shared that although he values the artistic appeal of featuring the Gbalagazaa hitmaker on the remix, he believes the collaboration would generate more excitement among fans than commercial profit. Nevertheless, he hinted at his intention to collaborate with various artists on the track to enhance its musical appeal.

“I have heard people talking about the fact that I should have a remix of the “Jejereje” song with Screwfaze. It is a good idea, but adding him to the song would not add any commercial to the song. It would only be for its niceness,” he said.

Stonebwoy also mentioned that Screwfaze could have created his own version of the song without needing to be approached.

“If the song sparked the energy of a legend, the only thing he could have done was to do a version of the beat without being asked to. I don’t have to reach out to him. We have plans and we can’t go against them,” he added.

Stonebwoy’s recent comments align with those of his team member MC Portfolio, who also argued that remixing Jejereje with Screwfaze wouldn’t be a commercially viable decision.

MC Portfolio had previously suggested that collaborating with Nigerian artist Flavour N’abania or Ivorian singer Freddy Meiway would have a stronger impact, potentially broadening the song’s international appeal.

Jejereje, which Stonebwoy released in September 2024 as part of his Up & Coming album, features guitarist Ginton and has already attracted significant attention, amassing over 1.6 million views on YouTube.

Musician and producer Quincy Jones, known for his collaborations with legends like Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra, has passed away at the age of 91.

His publicist, Arnold Robinson, confirmed that Jones “passed away peacefully” on Sunday evening at his residence in Bel Air.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him,” the family said in a statement.

Quincy Jones, celebrated for producing Michael Jackson’s iconic Thriller album, built a remarkable career spanning over 75 years, earning 28 Grammy Awards and a spot on Time magazine’s list of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century.

Late Micheal Jackson and the renowned music producer and legend

Early in his career, Jones worked closely with Frank Sinatra, famously transforming Sinatra’s Fly Me to the Moon from a waltz into a lively swing classic. Later, on the set of The Wiz, Jones crossed paths with a young Michael Jackson, then 19.

This meeting led to his production of Jackson’s Off the Wall, an album that sold 20 million copies, followed by Jackson’s wildly successful Thriller and Bad.

In 1985, Jones brought together 46 top American artists—including Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, and Cyndi Lauper—to record We Are the World, a song co-written by Jones to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia.

This powerful anthem, the U.S. counterpart to Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas?, topped charts in both the U.S. and the U.K. and became a defining performance at Live Aid.

Gloria Sarfo accuses AMAA of issuing invalid flight tickets to Ghanaian filmmakers

Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has strongly criticised the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for allegedly issuing invalid flight tickets to Ghanaian filmmakers, who were promised an all-expenses-paid trip to the event.

Sarfo, along with fellow industry figures such as Pascal Amanfo and Akorfa Adjeani, found themselves stranded and embarrassed at the airport when they realized their names were not listed in the airline’s system.

Sarfo explained that they received invitations with detailed itineraries and assurances that travel expenses would be fully covered.

However, upon arriving at the airport, they were met with silence from AMAA and soon discovered that their flights had not been confirmed.

Expressing her frustration, Sarfo noted that they could have paid for their own tickets if given the option but had trusted the organization’s commitment to covering their travel.

This mishap, she added, caused her to miss several important career engagements, including a film project, a premiere, and another awards event.

She further highlighted that Ghanaian organizers ensure Nigerian guests are well taken care of at similar events in Ghana, covering their travel, accommodation, and occasionally even offering honoraria.

Sarfo voiced her disappointment at not receiving the same respect in return.

Calling for an apology from AMAA, she urged the Ghanaian film industry to address such incidents, which, she argued, undervalue their contributions to African cinema.

Don’t try some sex styles if you are hypertensive; you would die prematurely – Doctor warns

Medical Superintendent at Mampong Hospital in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Dr. Kwasi Baffour Gyimah, has advised Ghanaians to practice safer sexual behaviours to reduce health risks and complications.

Speaking with Eunice Akoto Attakora-Manu on the Asetena Pa series, Dr. Gyimah highlighted the potential dangers linked with overly vigorous sexual activities, cautioning specifically against certain intense positions that could pose serious health hazards.

He noted that practices like “marathon sex” come with significant risks and urged for moderation to maintain overall health and well-being.

During the conversation about whether sex should be classified as exercise, Dr. Gyimah explained, “It all comes down to duration. Sex usually doesn’t last beyond 30 minutes, so it doesn’t qualify as a significant form of exercise. It’s not the same as an intense workout session,” he clarified, injecting some humour into the discussion.

He cautioned individuals with underlying health issues, such as hypertension, stating, “Some sexual positions can put added strain on the body, particularly for those with high blood pressure. Men on medication or those with hypertension need to be especially mindful of this.”

Dr. Gyimah concluded with a word of caution for men who may feel pressured to meet high expectations in the bedroom.

“Men should avoid overexerting themselves just to satisfy their partners.

Those brief moments of intense activity could lead to serious health risks, including life-threatening consequences,” he warned, urging men to prioritise their lives and safety over performance.

Conducting a DNA test is very important – Guru recounts how it saved him

Ghanaian singer and rapper Maradona Yeboah Adjei, popularly known as Guru, has revealed that a woman accused him of fathering a child that was not his.

During an interview on GHPage TV on November 2, 2024, the artist behind the hit song “Lapaz Toyota” explained that a DNA test confirmed the true paternity of the child after the woman gave birth.

“Oh yeah! A lady I had intercourse with nearly pinned a pregnancy that was not mine on me. I have been through a lot in life, and maybe I survived. But I am not sure everyone can survive this same incident,” he shared.

Guru went on to advise men to consider conducting DNA tests on their offspring.

“The bloodline matters. Conducting a DNA test is very important. When a lady gives birth, the first thing the man should do is to conduct a DNA on the child to prove the paternity,” he emphasised.

Currently, Guru has a new song titled “Bebere” released in October, which has garnered 1.8k views on YouTube.

Zanetor Rawlings expresses worry over rising cases of robbery in Adabraka

Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Zanetor Rawlings, has denounced the brazen daylight robbery that occurred on Saturday, November 2, at the Adabraka Market.

During the incident, four masked men armed with firearms attacked an individual in a red Toyota Corolla, making off with significant amounts of cash.

Local residents are still reeling from the shock, particularly after the robbers fired multiple gunshots into the air to disperse the crowd.

The assailants forcefully entered the Toyota, seizing large sacks of money stored inside the vehicle. Within moments, they loaded the bags into their getaway car and fled the scene, continuing to fire shots to deter onlookers.

This robbery echoes a similar incident that took place on Wednesday, August 24, 2023, when another audacious armed robbery occurred in the same area.

After visiting the crime scene, the MP expressed her concern over the prevalence of firearms in the hands of individuals who are instilling fear and panic among residents, particularly with general elections approaching.

“Unfortunately, this is the second time within the last four months something of this nature has happened, and it’s very worrying because, first of all, how are people having access to these types of weapons and having the courage to do this in the middle of the city?

We have elections in less than 36 days, so it raises concerns about the safety of constituents,” she noted.

She further called on the Ghana Police Service and the Ministries of Interior and National Security to protect citizens as the elections approach.

“I have engaged the police as I got here, but I believe this is something that has to be investigated at the highest level. It is not just about the police but also about the Minister of Interior and the Ministry of National Security because if you are looking at the types of weapons these individuals are carrying, it raises questions about the use of certain types of weapons in the system that are not legal.

She is, however, assuring residents to remain resolute as measures will be taken to minimise the growing menace.

“I intend to certainly pursue this because I am a Deputy Ranking Member on the Select Committee on Security and Intelligence, so I am going to use my position to see how we can address it,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the gang, assuring the general public that the perpetrators of the incident will be brought to book.

Another person has been killed, and his vehicle burnt to ashes in Bawku on Saturday, November 2, leading to sporadic gunfire in the vicinity.

The deceased, a commercial driver known as Maadi, was attacked while travelling to Bolgatanga, raising the death toll from recent violent incidents to 21.

After a period of relative calm, violence erupted again following the return of Alhaji Seidu Abagre, a rival chief who had been in exile since February 2023.

Abagre had previously fled Bawku due to an arrest warrant issued against him after his controversial installation as chief in Nalerigu.

However, a High Court ruling in Kumasi on October 17, 2024, annulled the warrant, enabling him to come back. His return on October 26 reignited the longstanding chieftaincy conflict, resulting in gunfire that claimed two lives and left several others injured.

The community is now grappling with heightened tensions and concerns over potential further violence.

In response to the unrest, a curfew from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm has been imposed, and security forces are actively enforcing these restrictions to help restore order.

  • EC to address issue of presidential ballot printing next week after Akua Donkor’s passing – Dr Bossman Asare

EC to address issue of presidential ballot printing next week after Akua Donkor’s passing – Dr Bossman Asare

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will reconsider its decision to halt the printing of ballot papers for the upcoming 2024 presidential election during the next week. This suspension was initiated following the passing of Madam Akua Donkor, the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate, on October 28, 2024.

According to the EC, the GFP has been given a period of 10 days to appoint a new flagbearer, in compliance with Article 50 (4) of the 1992 Constitution. Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairman responsible for Corporate Services at the EC, confirmed this information during a media briefing after inspecting three ballot printing facilities in Accra. He stated that the Commission is set to revisit this issue next week.

“As you are aware, the printing of parliamentary ballots is ongoing. We have put the presidential ballot papers on hold. It is likely that by next week, the Commission will revisit that particular issue,” he said.

The recent tour of printing facilities by the Electoral Commission (EC) included three key locations: Buck Press in Ofankor, which is responsible for producing ballot papers for the Ashanti, Savannah, Oti, and Central regions; Innolink in the North Industrial Area, which handles ballots for the Greater Accra and North East regions; and Acts Commercials Limited in Darkuman, where ballots for Upper East, Upper West, and Western North are being printed.

This tour aimed to provide journalists with a direct look at the printing process, thereby promoting transparency and fostering public confidence in the electoral system. Leading the tour were the EC’s Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Bano-Bioh, and Dr. Asare, who highlighted the commitment to maintaining transparency throughout the ballot printing operations.

He dismissed claims that the Commission had printed more ballots than needed for the 2024 election, calling such reports a “complete lie.”

“What the EC wants you to know is that nothing is done without the knowledge, even the inputs of political parties, and you can see clearly here that not only the main political parties are represented here.

“We even have Madam Akua Donkor who is no longer going to be a candidate, the agent is here, the independent candidates also have their agents here as well as the other minor political parties.

“So, if you hear anyone saying that the Electoral Commission has printed more than necessary ballots, that’s a complete lie, because the parties are aware; they know the ballot statistics for each region, for each constituency,” he said.

Mr Bano-Bioh said the Commission was one of the few election management institutions in the sub-region that printed its ballot papers locally, indicating the strength of its operations.

He said the Commission had nothing to hide, adding that it (EC) was committed to a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.

“We are here to let you know that printing ballots is not done in secrecy. We open up to the public for you to know that we are doing it together with the political party agents.

“At every level, there are agents, and they observe to ensure that the right thing is done. They take copies of the serial range of numbers; they take copies of quantities being printed for each constituency, and we give them all these details at the end.

“So, printing ballots, they are with us, and they make sure that whatever we have packaged and is ready to be sent to our regions and our constituencies, apart from the Electoral Commission’s seals, they also add their seals and take records of that,” he stated.

Dr Francis Nyanin, Executive Director of Buck Press, said the company was working around the clock to ensure that it met the deadline.

Bawku Crisis: “There would be some bloodshed” – Spokesperson on calls for removal of Chief Abagre Seidu

Spokesperson for the Mamprusi in Bawku and a member of the Nayiri Legal Team has expressed his concerns regarding the calls for the removal of Chief Abagre Seidu.

On his part, such a move could have significant negative repercussions on the social fabric of the community.

Salifu emphasised the importance of maintaining unity and stability in the area, suggesting that destabilising leadership could lead to deeper social conflicts.

“Don’t forget that he is a father, grandfather, head of the family, head of the clan, and his people need his spiritual and wise guidance,” Salifu remarked, stressing the cultural importance of respecting elders and traditional leaders.

He cautioned against the idea of exiling Chief Seidu, warning that such a decision could incite unrest.

“You cannot exile somebody and ask that they don’t come back to your hometown because when you do, there would be some bloodshed,” Salifu stated, highlighting the delicate balance within the social structure and the risks of conflict without reconciliation.

Salifu based his argument on the constitutional provisions governing chieftaincy in Ghana, particularly citing Article 277, which outlines the necessary qualifications for an individual to be recognised as a chief.

He stressed the importance of adhering to these legal standards in discussions surrounding chieftaincy matters.

“Nobody has said that Seidu does not hail from Bawku, a royal lineage, and that his enskinment was not done according to the custom of the Mamprusi,” he noted, indicating the complexity of the legitimacy debate around Chief Seidu.

This situation raises crucial questions around tradition and legality in Bawku, a society deeply rooted in lineage and cultural practices.

“People say there was an illegality; is it to say that it did not comply with Article 277 or any other provision under the Chieftaincy Act?” Salifu asked, underscoring the need for clear adherence to established norms.

Supreme Court under Akufo-Addo is acting as if it is above the constitution – Tony Aidoo

Former Ghana Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr. Tony Aidoo, has criticised the Supreme Court under President Akufo-Addo, alleging that it acts as a supra-constitutional authority that intrudes into the functions of Parliament.

In a recent interview on Newsfile aired by JoyNews and reported by MyNewsGh.com, Aidoo questioned the legal validity of a lawsuit brought forward by the Majority Leader, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, asserting that it lacks any legal foundation.

Aidoo’s comments reflect a growing concern over the judiciary’s influence on legislative processes in Ghana.

“The Supreme Court in the past years, especially under the Akufo-Addo administration, behaved as if it’s a supra-constitutional body that can interfere in every activity of Parliament.

Afenyo-Markin’s writ did not show any legal course for interpretation,” Dr. Aidoo bemoaned.

Dr. Tony Aidoo contends that the matter regarding vacant parliamentary seats is not a legal one but rather a direct outcome of actions taken by the MPs, governed by a clear conditional provision that requires no further interpretation.

He expressed his backing for the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, stating that Bagbin properly applied the law as outlined in Article 97, sections (g) and (h).

Additionally, Aidoo raised concerns about the Supreme Court’s actions, suggesting it behaves as if it were a sixth colonist for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), implying undue influence over parliamentary affairs.

“Every case the NPP loses in Parliament, it takes it to the Supreme Court because they know it is a pact court where decisions are taken to favour them. This is not the root of proper governance of our country,” Dr. Aidoo lamented.

The Supreme Court of Ghana has rejected an application from Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, who aimed to overturn a prior ruling that prevented him from declaring four parliamentary seats vacant.

This ruling adds to the ongoing legal discourse regarding the extent of the Speaker’s authority and the judiciary’s influence on parliamentary matters.

In his application, Speaker Bagbin sought to nullify the Supreme Court’s earlier decision that had temporarily halted his ruling concerning the four disputed seats.

Additionally, he aimed to dismiss a writ submitted by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, which called for judicial intervention to stop the Speaker from making further declarations regarding these seats .

Partey’s future at Arsenal – Mikel Arteta speaks

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed plans to hold talks regarding the future of midfielder Thomas Partey, recognizing the Ghanaian international’s crucial contribution to the squad.

At 31, Partey has enjoyed a strong comeback this season, having already accumulated 799 minutes in the Premier League—significantly more than his total playing time in the previous 2023/24 season.

Since his transfer from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for £45 million, Partey has featured in 13 games this season, scoring once and starting in 12 of those matches. Despite occasional criticism, Arteta commended Partey’s current form and flexibility on the field, particularly as the player’s contract is set to expire next summer.

“The one thing we needed was Thomas to be at the level we wanted,” Arteta told reporters on Friday.

“He’s working hard and playing really well in different positions, adapting to various demands, and he’s coping excellently. He’s a big player for us,” Arteta said, adding, “He’s in a really good place, and we’ll have these discussions [about his future with Arsenal].”

Originally, Arsenal had planned to allow Thomas Partey’s contract to conclude without pursuing an extension. However, his recent performances have opened up the possibility of reconsidering this approach. Partey’s experience and strong form this season could prove invaluable for Arsenal’s squad depth as they look ahead to the 2025/26 season.

Partey has also attracted interest from clubs like Barcelona and Juventus. While these links remain speculative, his skill set and presence could be crucial assets, especially if Arsenal seeks to maintain a competitive edge both domestically and in European competitions.

She was doing her job, but the disrespect was too much – Salma Mumin on Delay-Akua Donkor interview

Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur Salma Mumin has voiced her disappointment over media personality Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, and her approach in a recent interview with Madam Akua Donkor, the late founder of the Ghana Freedom Party.

Appearing on United Showbiz on UTV Ghana, Salma expressed that she found Delay’s interviewing style disrespectful and unprofessional, saying it often feels like a personal attack on the guest.

Having previously experienced Delay’s questioning style herself, Salma noted that Delay’s approach, particularly through her questioning and expressions, can sometimes make guests feel as though they are being “put on the spot” or “under attack.”

Reflecting on Delay’s interview with Akua Donkor, Salma stated, “I felt there was a lot going on… the disrespect was too much, aside from the fact that she was doing her job.”

Salma Mumin highlighted that some presenters, even when questions are prearranged with guests, sometimes opt to ask surprising or provocative questions to elicit a reaction, a tactic she perceives as intentionally harmful.

She unfavourably contrasted this method with that of American singer Beyoncé, pointing out that she takes care to plan her interviews to prevent any disrespectful exchanges.

While Salma acknowledged that Delay’s questions were not inherently offensive, she noted that the tone and insistence behind them contributed to an uncomfortable atmosphere.

“When you ask your guest a question and they answer, it should end there. If you keep hammering on the same question, it’s like you are expecting a different answer… It means you have evil intentions,” she emphasised, adding that this style feels like a deliberate attempt to embarrass the guest.

Salma’s critique has added to the ongoing conversation about the ethics of interviewing, sparking discussions on respectful engagement in Ghanaian media.

We’ll ignore NDC’s insults, we’re focused on winning December polls – Bawumia

New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, affirmed that his campaign will remain focused and undeterred despite what he described as “insults” from the opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He emphasised that his team’s approach is rooted in the NPP’s track record in government, aiming to secure voter confidence based on performance.

During a visit to the Tano North constituency on Saturday, November 2, Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by his trusted aide and spokesperson Dr. Gideon Boako, engaged with residents of Duayaw Nkwanta, concluding a two-day campaign tour in the Ahafo Region.

The campaign then extended to Dormaa, Dr. Boako’s hometown, where he is campaigning to succeed Freda Prempeh as Member of Parliament.

There, Dr. Bawumia expressed optimism about the NPP’s chances in the upcoming December 7 elections, encouraging strong support for the party across the region.

“The NDC sensing that they’re losing the election have resorted to insults; they have been insulting us. I believe you have heard some of the insults. We will not pay attention to them; we are confident of winning the elections. We will win the elections because of our good work.

“We’re focused on embarking on developmental projects for all communities; we have developed the country. I know your concern is the road; the road from Tepa to Duayaw Nkwanta is bad. I want you to commit all the roads in my hands. I will fix the roads when I become President. I will also construct a district hospital at Dormaa.”

Dr. Gideon Boako, the parliamentary candidate for Tano North, assured Dr. Bawumia that the Tano North constituency is set to make a historic impact in the 2024 elections.

“Whatever the NDC will do, even if they eat bags of salt, I will win the seat; nothing will change, because I know you have accepted me and I also love you. We will continue to serve. I will continue the good work of my predecessors, and we plead for your support. I’m pleading with you to vote massively for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

Video: CCTV footage of armed gang robbery at Adabraka

A recently surfaced CCTV recording captures a bold daylight robbery at a jewellery store in Adabraka, Accra, where a group of armed robbers reportedly fled with bags full of cash.

The robbery, which unfolded on November 2, 2024, left onlookers shocked by the audacity of the attack.

In the video, several men are seen loading large sacks, said to be filled with cash, into a stationary saloon car. Shortly after the car begins to pull away, a 4×4 vehicle suddenly blocks its path.

Armed gunmen, wearing masks and wielding AK-47s, exit the 4×4 and swiftly assault the driver and passenger, seizing the sacks from their vehicle.

Additional footage circulating online shows the robbers firing a warning shot and scattering cash into the air, seemingly to create a distraction and facilitate their getaway.

In response to the incident, the Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt. In a statement on November 2, 2024, police confirmed the robbery and reported that one person sustained injuries during the incident.

“We are on a manhunt for the gang of armed robbers who attacked a jewellery shop at Adabraka in Accra on Saturday, 2nd November 2024, injuring one person,” the statement read. “We assure the public that we will capture the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, addressed the incident, which took place in her constituency, expressing serious concern over the increasing incidents of armed robbery in the area.

She noted that this latest attack marks the second occurrence of such a robbery at the same location within a span of four months, underscoring her worry about public safety and the need for heightened security measures.

Dr. Rawlings vowed to address the issue with relevant security agencies to implement measures for safeguarding the community, stating, “I will follow up with the Ministry of Interior and National Security regarding these incidents. Ensuring the community’s safety is paramount.”

He stated that should any party engage in disrespectful or derogatory rhetoric, he would advise his church members to refrain from voting for them.

In a video message shared on X (formerly Twitter), he stressed the necessity of upholding respect and integrity throughout the electoral process, emphasizing its importance to the community.

He stated, “Listen, during election time, every party has a message to convey, and it’s important to communicate that message.

Military has no point being at polling stations; deploy them for state of emergency – Adams Bonaa to govt

Security analyst Dr. Adams Bonaa has advised against deploying the military to polling stations for the December 7 elections.

He emphasised that the Ghana Police Service is well-equipped to manage security before, during, and after the polls, suggesting that routine military involvement in such operations should be discouraged.

“We are not under attack. The military can be deployed only during a state of emergency,” he said.

Speaking at a democracy lecture in Accra, themed “Ghana’s Democratic Development: Evaluating the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act 2019 for Ensuring Peaceful December 2024 Elections,” Dr. Adams Bonaa cautioned against deploying the military at polling stations.

Organized by Care for Free and Fair Elections Ghana (Care Ghana) in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), the event focused on addressing rising electoral violence and inflammatory rhetoric from high-ranking officials, aiming to foster transparency and ensure a peaceful, fair election on December 7, 2024.

Dr. Bonaa noted that despite the introduction of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act in 2019 to disband vigilante groups—including political vigilante groups and land guards—the number of such groups has increased, now totaling 72. He stated that although roughly 20 groups were officially disbanded, many have since re-emerged, some even integrated as “men in uniform” within various security services.

“Unfortunately, those who get involved in such acts are promoted. The danger is that those who perpetrated such acts are still in the system and in uniform.

“Some have modified their operations by forming private security companies to perpetrate the same atrocities in a disguised form,” he alleged.

Dr. Bonaa emphasised that these practices pose a serious threat to Ghana’s democracy and encouraged voters to reflect carefully, choosing leaders who prioritise accountability.

Daylight robbery at Adabraka Market; gunshots fired

Adabraka Market in Accra on Saturday, November 2 witnessed a daring daylight robbery that left residents stunned.

In a red Toyota Corolla parked near the bustling market, a man was ambushed by four heavily armed, masked men. Witnesses reported that the robbers approached the car with guns drawn, firing shots into the air to scatter the crowd.

Panicked shoppers and vendors took cover, ducking behind stalls and fleeing for safety as the gunfire reverberated through the market.

The assailants quickly forced their way into the Toyota, seizing large bags of cash stored inside. In a matter of minutes, they transferred the bags into their own getaway vehicle and sped off, continuing to fire shots to keep bystanders at a distance.

An eyewitness recounted, “We deal in gold here, and we heard a loud noise, and we realised it was a sporadic shooting. I can’t even talk, I’m surprised, we hid and locked our gate, but they didn’t come to our end.

We heard them saying open the boot, and we saw they were carrying bags of money from some of the shops. They spent some few minutes.”

Another eyewitness also said, “There are several gold dealer shops here, so one of the owners of the shops had bags containing monies in his Toyota Corolla, immediately he landed, the robbers approached the car and took the money away. This is the second time such an incident has happened.

The police came in late, by the time they arrived, the armed robbers had bolted away with the bags of money in their Toyota Highlander. They fired multiple gunshots. They spread some money in the air to distract onlookers’ attention and scare them away.”

Footage of the robbery, recorded by onlookers, quickly circulated on social media, revealing the gunmen’s swift, coordinated actions and the widespread panic they caused in the market.

While the Ghana Police Service has yet to release an official statement on the incident, the widely shared videos have sparked heightened concerns about security in the area.

Release information early to prevent misinformation – EC told

Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative, a pan-African organisation, Mr. Gbenga Sesan, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure that the public receives timely information regarding the upcoming December 7 election.

He believes that this practice would help mitigate the spread of misinformation and disinformation, thereby enhancing public confidence in the electoral process.

Mr. Sesan shared this recommendation during a news conference in Accra on Thursday, which aimed to present the findings of a multi-stakeholder engagement organised by Paradigm Initiative.

The engagement was conducted in partnership with several organisations, including Community Focus Foundation Ghana (CFF-Ghana), the E-Governance and Internet Governance Foundation for Africa (EGIGFA), and the Internet Society Ghana Chapter (ISOC Ghana).

Mr. Sesan opposed suggestions to regulate the internet, especially social media, during election periods as a means to combat misinformation. Last October, the EC proposed a framework aimed at regulating social media usage during elections to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

However, Mr. Sesan cautioned that such regulations could prove perilous and potentially increase speculation and uncertainty.

“What we have learnt over the last few years is that electoral commissions are often responsible for the spread of fake news due to delays in releasing information,” he stated. “When you want fake news to die, release real news in advance. Carry citizens along during the process. Information gaps and asymmetries lead to assumptions and guesses.”

Mr. Sesan encouraged the EC to establish strong relationships with political parties and other stakeholders, sharing timely information with them to build trust in the process.

He also advised the government to avoid media control and instead establish standards to promote responsible reporting.

The president of the Internet Society, Mr. Francis Acquah Amaning urged the National Communications Authority to ensure strong internet access during and after the polls for timely information delivery.

He also appealed to Ghanaians to respect the rights of their fellow citizens online and avoid spreading false information to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

Mr. Amaning called on the media to adhere to professional ethics, exercising caution in their reporting to safeguard democracy, peace, and security.

On November 1, 2024, he appeared in front of the Family and Juvenile Court in Accra, where he pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him. The court has remanded him to a correctional facility and ordered him to hand over both his American and Ghanaian passports. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 7.

    Prosecution’s case:

During the proceedings, Assistant State Attorney Ebenezer Yaw Acquah presented key facts, emphasizing that despite the defendant’s youth and the absence of a valid driver’s license, family members consistently allowed him access to their vehicles.

On October 12, 2024, the defendant’s family hosted a birthday celebration for Elyon Amoako at an event center located in East Legon. During the festivities, the teenager allegedly requested the keys to his mother’s Jaguar F-Pace Sport from Linda Bonsu Bempah, who complied with his request.

Linda, who serves as a personal assistant to Elyon Amoako, had been tasked with overseeing the event and was in possession of the keys at the time.

The prosecution contends that the defendant, accompanied by a friend, drove to the A&C Mall, where they joined other friends in two additional SUVs. The three vehicles formed a convoy, with the defendant leading in his mother’s car as they drove through East Legon.

According to the prosecutor, while on Dzane-Ashie Road, the defendant allegedly accelerated to excessive speeds, disregarding the safety of other road users. Upon approaching a T-junction at Mensah Wood Avenue, he collided with an Acura driven by Joseph Ackah, who was transporting his employer’s two daughters and their friends, both aged 12..

Mr. Acquah recounted, “The 16-year-old rammed into the rear of the Acura; the collision was violent and destructive, propelling both vehicles across the street and smashing into the wall of the house opposite the junction, destroying an ECG pole in the process.”

Both vehicles ignited almost immediately after the collision. While the defendant and his passenger were able to escape, the occupants of the Acura found themselves trapped inside. Bystanders rushed to the scene, attempting to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers, but their efforts proved futile.

The driver managed to force open his door and was pulled to safety, but the rescuers could only free the toddler and her sister from the back seat. Unfortunately, two other girls remained trapped inside, and despite the valiant attempts of onlookers, they were unable to save them as the car continued to burn.

An investigation found that the accused had been driving in a manner “that fell way below what was expected of any competent and careful driver,” recklessly endangering other road users.

The accused admitted to taking the keys from Linda Bempah, picking up a friend, and driving to the A&C Mall before the incident.

GWCL goes after debtors in the Northern, Savannah regions over GHS 45 million debt

Northern Area Manager of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Stephen Amihere Mensah, has revealed that customers in the Northern and Savannah regions are facing a substantial collective debt of GH¢45.5 million due to unpaid water bills.

This outstanding amount pertains exclusively to domestic consumers, as the government has no pending arrears with the company.

Notably, more than GH¢7 million of this total is attributed to arrears from standpipe users.

In light of this situation, GWCL has initiated a revenue mobilisation campaign aimed at recovering these overdue payments.

This effort will be active from November 1 to December 31, 2024, as the company seeks to address the financial challenges posed by these outstanding debts.

“We have to chase our customers for our monies. Because as we speak, the government has paid all arrears that were owed by other institutions.

“Currently, only our domestic customers or residential customers owe GH¢45.5 million, which is only in the northern and Savannah regions.

What is even striking is that standpipes that are supposed to be cash and carry our customers owe us over GH¢7 million.

  • Lies! EC denies printing more than necessary ballots

Lies! EC denies printing more than necessary ballots

The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted claims that it is secretly printing ballot papers beyond the agreed quantities for the upcoming 2024 general election. Deputy EC Chairperson Dr. Bossman Asare, addressing these allegations during a media tour of printing facilities, dismissed such suggestions as false.

Dr. Asare clarified that the EC has maintained transparency by sharing ballot statistics with all political parties and candidates. The exact quantities allocated for each region and constituency are predetermined and thoroughly documented.

Additionally, he emphasized that representatives from all political parties are present during the counting and sealing processes, ensuring accountability and preventing any potential discrepancies.

“This is the particular number going to this region, this is the particular number going to this constituency, so if you hear anywhere that the Electoral Commission has printed more than the necessary ballots, that’s a complete lie, because the parties are aware, they know the ballot statistics for each region, for each constituency, and in this year’s election, what the Commission said is that we are giving each constituency an increase of two percent, and that’s what we are printing.

“So if you hear anywhere that oh the EC has printed excess of 2,000, 3,000 it’s not true. The parties are here and the party agents themselves can testify that indeed the numbers the EC has given to the parties, that’s what we are printing, that’s what the printing houses are printing, and that’s what EC officials are also checking, the parties are also checking.

“And as I indicated, when we finish, all the ballots for each constituency, as far as each region is concerned, will be bagged, and the parties are going to have their seals on the bags; the EC is also going to have its seals on the bags. So everything is very, very transparent.”

The Electoral Commission’s denial follows an allegation made by Richard Dzakpa, supervisor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) agents, who claimed that the printing firms assigned to produce ballots for the Ashanti and Eastern regions—strongholds of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)—as well as the Savannah and North East regions, where presidential candidates John Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia hail from, were printing an extra 3,000 ballots per constituency. Dzakpa suggested that this could indicate a hidden agenda.

“It’s too much of a coincidence to have their two strongholds, and where the two flagbearers come from, printing in excess of 3,000 per constituency as internal printing house operational losses,” he alleged.

Bolga Traditional Council appeals to CJ to open courts closed over tension in Bawku

Bolgatanga Traditional Council has appealed to Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and the government to review the recent closure of seven courts across the Upper East Region.

The courts were shut down on October 29, 2024, due to growing safety concerns among court personnel amid escalating conflict in Bawku.

Chief Justice Torkornoo defended the decision, highlighting the importance of safeguarding judicial staff and preserving the justice system’s credibility in regions affected by unrest.

Despite this, the Traditional Council voiced worries that the closures may limit access to justice in the region.

They urged officials to explore alternative safety measures that would allow the courts to remain operational while protecting court staff.

In a statement issued on November 1, the Bolgatanga Traditional Council said, “The Traditional Council is also appealing to the government and the Chief Justice to reconsider their decision and reopen the courts and re-enforce the necessary security.”

They also appealed to the feuding factions to allow peace to prevail.

Other influential voices are also urging the feuding factions to put aside their differences and allow peace to prevail.

  • US Court rules Elon Musk may temporarily continue his cash giveaways

US Court rules Elon Musk may temporarily continue his cash giveaways

A Pennsylvania state judge has ruled that Elon Musk can temporarily continue distributing cash to registered voters, though questions remain about the legality of his actions.

Musk, a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, has been offering cash rewards through his political group, America PAC, targeting registered voters in key swing states who sign a petition—a move U.S. officials argue could violate election laws. Musk has dismissed these concerns.

Philadelphia District Attorney Lawrence Krasner filed a lawsuit against Musk earlier this week, calling for an immediate halt to the $1 million giveaways, arguing it must be stopped before the presidential election.

During a hearing on Thursday, Judge Angelo Foglietta determined that the case would be paused as a federal court considers whether to take jurisdiction.

Should the federal court decide not to proceed with the matter, the case will revert to state court for further handling.
In a post on X, the platform Musk owns, he said the ruling was “American Justice FTW (for the win)”.
It is unlikely the case will be resolved before Tuesday’s election.

“We will proceed to federal court, and we will address the issues there and seek to have the matter remanded back to the state court,” John Summers, a lawyer working with Mr Krasner, told reporters after the hearing.
“After all, this is a case that involves state law issues,” he added.

Musk was absent from the Philadelphia court during the hearing.

Earlier this month, the billionaire declared that he would be awarding a US$1 million prize daily to individuals in key battleground states—Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, and North Carolina—until November 5.

These states are critical in a tightly contested race between Trump and his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.

On Thursday, another winner was revealed: Dacey from Fremont, North Carolina, who received a US$1 million check from Musk’s America PAC.

To qualify for the giveaway, registered voters must provide personal information such as their addresses and phone numbers. Additionally, they are required to sign a pledge affirming their support for the US Constitution.

The lawsuit filed against Musk claimed he was “running an illegal lottery.”.

“America PAC and Musk are lulling Philadelphia citizens… to give up their personal identifying information and make a political pledge in exchange for the chance to win US$1 million,” Mr Krasner said in the lawsuit. “That is a lottery. And it is indisputably an unlawful lottery.”

The lawsuit also accuses the Tesla co-founder of violating consumer protection laws by using “deceptive, vague, or misleading statements” that could create confusion.

But Musk’s lawyers have argued otherwise.

“The complaint, in truth, has little to do with state-law claims of nuisance and consumer protection,” Musk’s lawyers wrote in federal filings, according to a CNN report.

“Rather, although disguised as state law claims, the complaint’s focus is to prevent defendants’ purported ‘interference’ with the forthcoming federal presidential election by any means.”

Just a day before Judge Foglietta’s ruling, the district attorney’s team asked for enhanced security for the hearing after Musk retweeted a post insulting Krasner that led to threats against him.

“It immediately triggered an avalanche of posts from Musk’s followers. Many made antisemitic attacks on Krasner,” Krasner’s team wrote in a legal filing.

Before the case was filed, Musk’s PAC was also warned by the US justice department that its lottery-style giveaway might violate federal election law.

The BBC has previously reached out to America PAC for comment.

Under US law, it is illegal to pay people to register to vote. But legal experts have told the BBC that whether the giveaway violates federal law is a grey area.

Musk could face a US$10,000 fine and up to five years in prison if a court finds he broke the law.

Musk himself, who has been aggressively campaigning for Trump, has insisted voters who want to be eligible for the prizes do not need to register as Republicans or go ahead with casting a vote.

ECG launches monthly meter readings in the Volta,Oti regions for better billing accuracy

In a significant effort to address issues related to billing inaccuracies, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a monthly meter reading program for its customers in the Volta and Oti Regions.

This initiative aims to ensure that billing accurately reflects actual electricity usage, responding to widespread concerns about the effectiveness of ECG’s previous quarterly billing approach.

Leading this initiative, Solomon Adjiku, the ECG’s Regional Commercial Manager, has been actively engaging with meter readers across various districts to emphasise the crucial role that accurate monthly readings play.

During these discussions, he stressed the importance of precise metre readings in fostering transparency and trust between ECG and its customers.

“Shifting to monthly readings will not only minimise billing errors but also foster improved communication with our customers,” Mr Adjiku stated.

“We want customers to feel assured that their bills reflect only the electricity they have used.”

The shift from quarterly to monthly meter readings in the Volta and Oti Regions is a key element of the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) broader strategy to improve operational efficiency and enhance customer satisfaction.

By increasing the frequency of meter readings, ECG intends to minimise disputes related to estimated charges and offer customers clearer, more accurate bills that truly reflect their energy consumption.

Mr. Adjiku emphasised the importance of diligence among metre readers, urging them to strictly follow company protocols to maintain the highest standards of accuracy in their readings.

This monthly billing initiative represents a significant step forward in ECG’s commitment to addressing customer concerns about billing accuracy and demonstrates the company’s dedication to evolving its services to meet the needs of its clients.

Furthermore, ECG urges all customers to pay their electricity bills on time, as timely payments are essential for the company’s ability to enhance and expand its services.

As ECG continues to innovate and adjust its practices, it aims to strengthen its relationship with customers in the Volta and Oti Regions, ensuring a more reliable and transparent billing experience for everyone.

  • Gold prices stabilize after largest decline since July

Gold prices stabilize after largest decline since July

Gold prices began to recover on Friday morning after experiencing a significant decline from a recent peak of over $2,800 per ounce the previous day.

The December delivery of gold increased by more than $18, reaching $2,767.50. This rise comes amidst expectations of upcoming US jobs data and potential market disruptions related to the presidential election, contributing to increased volatility.

On Thursday, gold faced its most substantial one-day loss since July, closing at $2,749 per ounce. Despite this setback, gold is still on track for its fourth consecutive monthly increase, reinforcing its position as one of the top-performing commodities of 2024.

The fluctuations in gold prices are largely influenced by the release of robust US economic data, which has heightened the likelihood of a cautious stance on interest rates in the near future. A potential interest rate cut would be favourable for gold, which does not yield interest.

Recent figures indicate that overall inflation in the US stands at 2.1%, the lowest rate since early 2021 and slightly above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. Inflation-adjusted consumer spending saw a rise of 0.4%, reflecting a boost from ongoing wage growth.

Gold has surged over 33% this year, driven by increased purchasing from global central banks and safe-haven demand amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.

The metal’s recent rally pushed its 14-day relative strength index above 70, a threshold that suggests the market may be overbought, according to analysis from Bloomberg.

The tightly contested US presidential election is also adding to market uncertainty, enhancing gold’s appeal as a safe haven for investors.

According to Ole Hansen, head of commodity strategy at Saxo Bank A/S, the election on November 5 could trigger a correction in gold prices, potentially dropping them by more than $100 per ounce.

Official: Ghana Police confirm remand of Salifu Amoako’s son

Teenage son of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, founder of Alive Chapel International, Elrad Amoako, has been placed in custody by the Accra Juvenile and Family Court due to his involvement in a recent tragic incident in East Legon.

A statement issued on Friday, November 1, 2024, stated, “The suspect, Elrad Salifu Amoako, was put before the Court on November 1, 2024, on eight counts, including the offence of manslaughter. He was subsequently remanded by the Court to a Correction Centre to reappear on 7th November 2024.”

The court has confiscated Elrad’s travel documents to mitigate any risk of him fleeing.

The tragic accident that took place on October 12, 2024, resulted in the deaths of two young children, leading to widespread public demands for accountability.

In response, the court has ordered a medical evaluation for Elrad to take place on Monday at the University of Ghana Hospital, aimed at assessing his physical and mental well-being.

He is scheduled to return to court on November 7, 2024, for further discussions regarding his involvement and the potential legal actions that may follow.

I “doff my hat for UTAG” – NPP National Youth Wing lauds

National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has conveyed his satisfaction with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) for ending their strike and resuming classes at the University of Ghana.

“It was a great delight to receive the news that UTAG has called off its strike,” Mustapha declared, adding, “I am exceedingly happy with this development and doff my hat for UTAG and salute them.”

On October 28, 2024, Mustapha issued a press release urging the resumption of academic work at public universities, emphasising that his appeal was made in the interest of the students.

“I was mindful of the academic work and also their constitutional right to vote since most of the students registered on campus,” he explained.

He recognised the concerns of both students and faculty members about the impact of a prolonged strike on the academic calendar, noting, “I have had fruitful discussions with some executives of UTAG and members who expressed grave worry over the continuation of the strike as it had the propensity to dislocate the realigned academic calendar.”

In closing, Mustapha reiterated his gratitude towards UTAG and its leadership for their dedication to the academic community.

“Once again, I wish to express my profound gratitude to UTAG and its executives for their show of good faith, fidelity, and commitment to Ghanaian students. The NPP youth wing says Ayeekoo,” he affirmed, signalling a hopeful path forward for both students and educators as the academic year resumes.
