Floyd Mayweather risks losing his Bugatti, Ferrari due to breach of contract with a Nigerian company

A California court has ordered legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather to pay $2.4 million to Nigerian company Zzini Media Concept Limited after ruling that he breached an agreement to conduct promotional visits to various African countries, including Nigeria.

According to several reports from Nigerian media, the California Court of Appeal also found Mayweather guilty of fraud.

The case revolves around a contract that required Mayweather to make multiple trips to Africa, starting with a visit to Nigeria in June 2017. However, he did not fulfill his obligations, prompting Zzini Media Concept to seek legal recourse for reimbursement.

Mayweather’s legal team contended that since Zzini Media Concept is not based in the U.S., it did not have the authority to enforce payment. Nonetheless, the company successfully filed a lawsuit in a lower court.

The court ruled in favor of Zzini Media Concept, ordering Mayweather to pay $1,638,542 in damages, $721,881.32 in prejudgment interest, $16,270 in attorney fees, and $285 in court costs.

Despite Mayweather’s attempt to appeal the decision, the California Court of Appeal upheld the lower court’s ruling on August 27, 2024.

Following the court’s verdict, Alex Nwankwo, an executive at Zzini Media Concept, remarked that the company’s success was due to a solid case.

He explained, “After several unsuccessful attempts to recover the appearance fees, the company filed a legal action against Mayweather in 2018, alleging breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and fraud.”

“We are grateful that two courts have granted Zzini Media Ltd’s request to impose sanctions against Mayweather,” the statement continued.

Mayweather has reportedly refused to pay the amount, prompting the court to issue a fresh order targeting his assets, specifically his 2015 Bugatti GSV or his 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta.

The company’s statement further noted, “We have already defeated Mayweather and his attorneys numerous times in these proceedings, so the enforcement of the judgment will proceed. Our forensic investigators have also uncovered substantial assets indicating that Mayweather has been overstating his net worth.”

Don’t shut down my businesses because I don’t support your party – Dr Nduom fumes

Chairman of Group Nduom and founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has expressed deep frustration over the collapse of his businesses in Ghana, particularly his now-defunct GN Bank.

This recent grievance follows multiple complaints from the businessman and politician about the shutdown of his enterprises in the country.

During a Facebook Live session on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Dr. Nduom alleged that the current administration intentionally targeted his businesses due to his stance as a political opponent.

He compared his situation to the United States, saying, “Elon Musk disagrees with the current President Joe Biden. He [Elon Musk] is even campaigning for the opponent of the current vice president.

But is he not working? Is he not wealthy? Yes, he is even benefiting from the space programmes, grants, and budget that are being implemented by the Biden administration. Nobody is saying, ‘Go and kill him or his businesses because he supports another political party.’”

According to him, the situation in Ghana is different, arguing that America would not thrive if it practiced the kind of politics seen in Ghana.

“Why do we do this to ourselves here in Ghana? Because he disagrees with me, because he is a member of the Progressive People’s Party, because he used to be a member of the CPP, and we are this and we are that, his businesses must be destroyed? He shouldn’t be allowed to eat, and his employees should go home. It must not be.”

The disappointed businessman added that being an opponent “doesn’t mean you should shut my businesses down, as some people have tried to do.”

Dr Nduom’s GN Bank was affected in 2017 when the Nana Addo government restructured the banking sector, resulting in the formation of the Consolidated Bank of Ghana.

Ghanaian talents Abdul Aziz Issah and David Oduro are set to make their first appearance for Barcelona B in an upcoming match against Gimnástica Segoviana CF on November 2, 2024.

The two players are included on the official squad list, signalling their anticipated debut for the team.

Their arrival on the field was delayed by documentation issues, which took over a month to finalise.

Now, as reported by BarcaTimes, both players have successfully completed their paperwork and received their work permits, allowing them to be eligible for Saturday’s game.

Since joining the Catalan club during the 2024 summer transfer window, Aziz and Oduro have missed nine games.

They were introduced to fans alongside Cameroonian forward Ivan Cedric, who has already debuted and found the net in a 2-2 draw with Barakaldo CF.

Robbery during filming: Nadia Buari shares her story

Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari recently opened up about the traumatic experience of an armed robbery at her home while she was on set filming.

Speaking on 3 Music TV’s The Big Conversation on November 1, 2024, Nadia recounted receiving a distressing phone call that alerted her to the break-in.

“During the time we were filming, I was going through a lot personally. So I wasn’t focused on my lines. Even while on set, my home got robbed. We had to film so I had to ignore it, pretend nothing had happened,” she said.

Nadia, famed for her role in “Beyoncé: The President’s Daughter,” also talked about the challenges of balancing her responsibilities as a mother with her filming schedule.

“I’m a hands-on mother. We usually start shooting around 6 PM and wrap up around 5 AM.

I rush home to get my kids ready for school, drop them off, then do some house chores before picking them up later. I had little time to rest while on set,” she added.

Stonebwoy says many Ghanaians see him as a Jamaican

Renowned Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy has revealed that many people in Ghana often mistake him for a foreign artist, particularly from Jamaica, due to his dancehall style and extensive international collaborations.

In a recent fashion interview circulating on social media, the BHIM Nation president addressed a popular misconception about him, saying, “People in Ghana often think I’m Jamaican. Many believe I’m actually from abroad.”

Stonebwoy’s Caribbean-influenced sound and collaborations with iconic Jamaican artists, like Morgan Heritage and Sean Paul, have contributed to this perception.

In a previous interview, he shared that he has worked with over 47 artists globally, with more unreleased projects still on the way.

This widespread collaboration has strengthened his reputation in Jamaica, where he feels a strong sense of acceptance—a connection Ghanaians are increasingly associating him with.

During the fashion interview, Stonebwoy was asked to rate his outfit. He confidently responded, “No, we do 100, we don’t do 10.”

He detailed his attire, saying, “Balenciaga’s, of course. The chrome Balenciaga hoodie. All plain virements from Paris. Flannel Homme, some Gucci.

Jewellery from Just Frost London. That’s where everybody gets their stuff. Burna Boy, Wizkid, Asake, Patoranking, Adebayor, your footballers.”

Sarkodie’s current level is proof of his wasted investment – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has voiced his disapproval of Sarkodie’s continuous investment in music videos, labelling it a waste of resources.

During an episode of “Rants, Bants, and Confession” aired on October 31, 2024, the “On God” hitmaker argued that the substantial amounts Sarkodie has spent in pursuit of international acclaim could have been better allocated towards real estate development instead.

“Sarkodie has worked so hard that he should be one of the people on the international market, performing like Burna Boy and Wizkid. But you see the work he has put into place, it’s a waste of investment.

Because he was just wasting monies he could have used to build malls and filling stations, yet he is still not where Wizkid and Burna Boy are,” he said.

Shatta Wale further noted that Sarkodie’s lack of international recognition compared to Burna Boy and Wizkid stems from his willingness to be used by industry players in Ghana.

“After all these efforts, he still can’t compare himself to the likes of those musicians because he is humble and has made himself to be used by that industry player. Artistes in Ghana don’t know they are doing business,” he added.

Kuami Eugene did no good slamming Joyce Blessing over their song promotion – Kojo Kinn

Musician and entertainment commentator Kojo Kinn has taken aim at Kuami Eugene for his recent remarks about the promotion of songs he composed for gospel artists Joyce Blessing and Empress Gifty.

In a prior interview, Kuami Eugene expressed his disappointment that Joyce Blessing did not promote the song he wrote for her as vigorously as Empress Gifty had.

However, in a discussion on Adom TV, Kojo Kinn deemed these comments insensitive, suggesting that there may have been legitimate reasons behind Joyce Blessing’s lack of promotion, such as financial constraints or limited resources.

Kinn’s criticism highlights the complexities surrounding artist collaborations and promotional efforts in the music industry, emphasising the need for understanding the various challenges artists may face.

“As a writer, Kuami Eugene was being selfish. He was expecting the song to perform to a certain level but wasn’t considering the other factors that make a song successful.

“What he said wasn’t good. Because Joyce would hear it and feel bad. She had her reasons why she could not promote it as much as Empress Gifty. Maybe she didn’t have the funds or resources that Empress Gifty had to promote it,” he said.

Joyce Blessing’s song “Victory,” written by Kuami Eugene, was released in December 2023; in contrast, Empress Gifty’s track “Watch Me” debuted in September 2024.

After trying to reach you 5 times? – Keche Joshua explains public attacks on King Paluta

Ghanaian artist Keche Joshua has opened up about his recent outburst aimed at fellow musician King Paluta regarding the lack of promotion for their collaborative track, “My Father.”

In August, Joshua publicly criticised Paluta for not supporting the song, which was released in June 2024, claiming that Paluta was disrespectful and more inclined to promote his collaborations with other artists.

During an appearance on the Savage Room podcast, Keche explained that he had made multiple attempts—five to be exact—to reach out to King Paluta to discuss promotional strategies that could benefit both artists.

However, Paluta’s failure to respond left Joshua feeling frustrated and compelled to express his disappointment publicly.

“We featured you on a song. Collectively, we need to promote it together.

And there’s a split sheet that when the song comes out online, every stream, you will get your percentage.

“So you want me to promote the song for you to chop that money. I tried reaching out to you, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 times, but you didn’t mind me So I want to let you know that what you did was not good,” he said.

Keche explained, adding that while he is open about his issues, he does not hold grudges. However, he would not run from a fight.

“That’s how I am, I will say what I had to say and go to sleep. The next day if I see you, I will greet you. If you want to fight me, fighting is not good. But if you try show strength, I will show you that I have been on this street more than you,” he added.

Joshua Keche clarified that his message wasn’t intended to incite conflict but rather to encourage accountability from King Paluta.

video: I had GHS 750k in my savings account at the age of 14 – Shatta Wale claims

Dancehall artist Shatta Wale recently shared a surprising detail about his childhood savings during an episode of the Rants, Bants, and Confession podcast, which aired on October 31, 2024.

He revealed that at just 14 years old, he had accumulated an impressive 750,000 Ghana cedis (GH¢750,000) in his bank account.

Shatta Wale attributed this financial comfort to his affluent father, who would even provide him with foreign currency for his daily expenses.

He emphasised that growing up, he lacked for nothing, as all his needs were met without him having to spend any of his own money.

“I started saving at the age of 14 as a rich kid. I went to Prudential Bank at age 14 and told them I was 18 years old. My father used to give me pounds and dollars as daily upkeep, so at age 14 I had seven hundred and fifty thousand cedis.

“I was okay; I didn’t have to buy anything because he was buying all my clothing. I drove one time to the bank when my dad wasn’t home. The bank manager knew I wasn’t 18 though,” he said.

However, Shatta said he couldn’t retrieve the money when he later encountered hard times.

“When I became broke, I had actually forgotten about that money saved with Prudential Bank. It was only later, after my Bandana days, that I remembered. When I went to the bank, they said my name wasn’t in the system, so I couldn’t get it back,” he added.

Ghanaian singer and socialite Sister Derby has opened up about her struggles to find a job after completing her master’s degree in the UK.

During a segment on the Big Conversation aired on 3 Music TV, the artist, known for her hit “Kakalila Love,” recounted the difficulties she faced after losing a £700 internship.

Despite submitting numerous job applications, she has been unable to secure a position, highlighting the challenges many graduates encounter in the job market.

“I applied for so many jobs, but I couldn’t get one. So, I spoke to one of my professors, and she told me that due to the recession in the UK, they are employing citizens before other nationalities.

“I went to so many job interviews in big publishing companies, but I wasn’t called… I registered with a lot of different agencies for jobs, but I wasn’t called too, so I decided to come back to Ghana,” she said.

Sister Derby shared that despite attending several job interviews with prominent publishing companies, she did not receive any job offers. Additionally, she registered with various employment agencies, but her efforts yielded no results.

“When I decided to return to Ghana and look for a job here, I happened to be on the last Ghana Airwaves flight, I think somewhere in January 2010,” she disclosed.

  • Young Thug released from jail following a guilty plea related to gang charges

Young Thug released from jail following a guilty plea related to gang charges

US rapper Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, was released from jail on Thursday evening after entering a guilty plea to charges related to gang activity, drugs, and firearms.

His release marks a significant moment in a lengthy legal battle, concluding the longest criminal trial in Georgia’s history.

After spending over 900 days incarcerated since his arrest on racketeering and gang-related charges, the 33-year-old Grammy Award winner faced serious allegations.

The prosecutors claimed in May 2022 that the record label he founded was linked to a criminal organisation responsible for a significant portion of violent crime in Atlanta.

On Thursday, Young Thug was sentenced to time served and received 15 years of probation. He was officially released from custody later that same night, according to jail records.

“I take full responsibility for my crimes, for my charges,” Mr Williams told the court.

“To really everybody that has got something to do with this situation, I want to say sorry.”

In a five-minute speech, he described himself as “a good guy with a good heart” who found himself “in a lot of stuff because I was just nice or cool”.

“And I understand that you can’t be that way when you reach a certain height because it could end bad… and it could fall on you.”

Prosecutors had planned to recommend a sentence of 45 years, including 25 in custody and 20 on probation.

But the plea negotiations were unsuccessful, and Superior Court Judge Paige Whitaker instead chose his punishment, commuting his sentence to the time he has already served, paving the way for his release.

“I want you to try to be more of the solution and less of the problem,” Judge Whitaker told him.

As part of the deal, Mr Williams pleaded guilty to one gang charge, three drug charges and two gun charges.

Young Thug also entered a no-contest plea regarding charges of leading a gang and violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, indicating he would not challenge these allegations and would accept the corresponding penalties.

Judge Whitaker imposed additional conditions, requiring Young Thug to complete 100 hours of community service, refrain from any contact with gang members or former co-defendants, and avoid the metropolitan Atlanta area for the first decade of his 15-year probation, except for special occasions like weddings, funerals, or mandatory presentations on anti-gang and anti-gun topics, which he must conduct four times a year.

This plea change marks the conclusion of a complex case that faced numerous delays, courtroom disruptions, and mistrial motions. Young Thug, arrested in May 2022, was charged alongside 27 associates from his label, Young Stoner Life (YSL) Records, with conspiracy to violate the RICO Act, a law historically applied in organized crime cases.

Prosecutors contended that YSL represented a criminal gang named Young Slime Life, linking the group to various serious crimes, including murder and armed robbery in Atlanta. The indictment raised significant concerns regarding the use of YSL’s rap lyrics as evidence of the gang’s activities, with critics arguing that it infringed upon the artists’ freedom of expression and targeted a culturally significant genre.

As the case progressed, several co-defendants either accepted plea agreements or had their cases separated, while one saw charges dropped following an unrelated conviction. By the trial’s commencement, only six defendants remained, and jury selection took nearly ten months.

In July, the trial was halted indefinitely after Young Thug’s attorneys requested the recusal of Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville due to alleged misconduct during a private meeting with prosecutors and a key witness.

The judge’s refusal to step down and the subsequent contempt finding of Young Thug’s lead attorney added further complications.

Throughout the trial, there were unusual incidents, including the arrest of a deputy for attempting to smuggle contraband and a Zoom hack by an apparent supporter of Young Thug who shouted, “free Thug!” .

Recently, three of Young Thug’s co-defendants accepted plea deals, while the two remaining, Shannon Stillwell and Deamonte Kendrick, plan to proceed to trial.

  • Current graduates lacking essential skills – HR manager warns

Current graduates lacking essential skills – HR manager warns

A Human Resource (HR) Manager at TG Holdings, Portia Cann, has expressed concerns about the skills gaps among recent university graduates, which she says undermines their preparedness for the intricate, ever-evolving workforce.

In an interview with The Independent Ghana Newspaper, Ms. Cann highlighted issues with the level of preparedness among interns, pointing to shortfalls in punctuality, critical thinking, and professional discipline.

According to Ms. Cann, students are often required to complete internships as part of their university curriculum, either as a course requirement or on a voluntary basis.

Ideally, these internships provide practical job exposure and an opportunity for students to offer new ideas to their host companies. However, she finds that many interns arrive without the necessary foundational skills.

“Technical skills zero, same for soft skills,” she noted. “There are theoretical aspects they learn from school, but they don’t have any soft skills.

The new crop of students is so green that even you have to teach them the skill of discipline, meeting timelines, and their ability to think outside the box.” For her, this lack of preparation undermines the value of their internships.

Ms. Cann suggested that university curricula should focus more on practical applications rather than theory alone, arguing that the current system leaves students with knowledge gaps that affect their performance and professionalism.

“There’s a huge gap between what there is and what should be,” she observed.

“We learn theories; practicality is zero. University is supposed to challenge your thinking and push you beyond your limits. It has shifted from practicality to theory where we learn, pass, and forget.”

She also pointed out a lack of competency in basic workplace tasks, stating that many graduates struggle with writing simple memos or organising information clearly, skills she considers essential.

“Our universities have failed,” she added bluntly, asserting that recent graduates often leave university without the skills required to succeed in the job market.

To address this shortfall, Ms. Cann recommended that students demonstrate competence before graduating, proposing a system that would require students to meet practical benchmarks during their internships.

She emphasised that even if internships are compulsory, universities and companies should implement “rigorous checks” to ensure students are learning and applying essential skills during their placements.

Cann’s concerns highlight a potential misalignment between the educational system and employer expectations, raising questions about the effectiveness of Ghana’s current university training in meeting the needs of a changing job market.

Benzema faces criticism on social media for remarks about Rodri’s Ballon d’Or win

Legendary French footballer Karim Benzema recently received criticism from some social media users after voicing his opinion on the 2024 Ballon d’Or outcome, suggesting that Manchester City midfielder Rodri was undeserving of the win over Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.

Reflecting on the award, Benzema acknowledged Rodri’s skill in the midfield but argued that he lacks the extraordinary impact that Vinicius brings, which he believes captivates fans more.

The 2022 Ballon d’Or recipient expressed these sentiments in a tweet shared on ESPN FC’s X account, maintaining that Vinicius, his former Real Madrid teammate, would have been a more fitting choice for the award.

“I have nothing against Rodri, who is a good player. But I’m on my couch, I watch television, and Rodri does not do things that make me say: ‘Pfff,’ and Vinicius has done that more than once,” Benzema said.

Benzema’s comments drew significant backlash on social media, with many football fans accusing him of undervaluing Rodri’s contributions to his club and national team.

Critics expressed disappointment in the Al-Ittihad player for making such remarks, particularly given his status as a top athlete who should appreciate the game’s nuances.

Rodri’s achievements include several prestigious titles, such as the English Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA EURO 2024, all of which contributed to his recognition as the winner of the Ballon d’Or.

On the other hand, Vinicius Jr. also enjoyed a successful season, securing the UEFA Champions League, Super Cup, and Spanish La Liga titles with Real Madrid.

The contrast in their accolades highlights the competitive nature of football and the differing perspectives on player contributions.

Real Madrid’s match at Valencia postponed due to flooding

Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga match against Valencia, originally slated for Saturday, has been postponed following severe flash floods across parts of Spain.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced that all games in the Valencia region would be suspended after torrential rains led to at least 95 fatalities and left many others unaccounted for.

In addition to Real Madrid’s match, Villarreal’s game against Rayo Vallecano and three Segunda division matches—Castellon vs. RC Ferrol, CD Eldense vs. SD Huesca, and Malaga vs.

    Levante—have also been postponed.

In the women’s top flight, Liga F, fixtures such as Valencia’s match against Deportivo La Coruna and Real Madrid’s clash with Levante have also been suspended.

The RFEF acted on requests from La Liga, Liga F, and the clubs themselves to call off all professional matches in the affected areas after the devastating flooding.

The ongoing Copa del Rey tournament was similarly affected, with Valencia’s away game against Parla Escuela among the rescheduled matches.

The RFEF said a minute’s silence will be observed during the weekend’s games to show Spanish football’s “solidarity for those affected, especially the relatives of those who have died in the natural disaster.”

  • DDEP: Govt must have a dialogue with bondholders over troubling impacts of programme – NAPO

DDEP: Govt must have a dialogue with bondholders over troubling impacts of programme – NAPO

Vice presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), has called for open dialogue between the government and bondholders affected by the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP)

The DDEP, a government-initiated plan launched in 2022, was aimed at tackling Ghana’s significant debt challenges by swapping higher-interest bonds for lower-interest, long-term alternatives.

This programme saw around 95% of local bondholders voluntarily agree to revised terms, including extended maturities and reduced coupon rates, in an effort to aid the government’s financial restructuring efforts.

In a recent media interview, Dr. Prempeh praised the bondholders’ sacrifices, highlighting their role in stabilising the economy and securing the much-needed $3 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout, which was instrumental for Ghana’s recovery.

He noted that without their compliance, the IMF’s approval and subsequent foreign investor confidence would have been unlikely. He stated, “If they hadn’t agreed for us to exchange their 95% bonds, we couldn’t have gone through the restructuring process with the IMF, and the foreign bondholders would not have followed for us to achieve this result.”

While the DDEP has been credited with saving the economy from potential collapse, it has brought financial strain to many investors who had anticipated unrestricted access to their savings.

Dr. Prempeh urged the government to ensure that the phased repayment plans scheduled to begin in 2026 proceed as planned, as bondholders are still dealing with financial instability.

In light of public concerns, he questioned the necessity that led notable individuals, including retired Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, to join protests demanding financial justice.

For many, the DDEP’s restrictions have raised questions about financial security, as savings intended for personal use have become temporarily inaccessible.

Dr. Prempeh acknowledged the widespread hardship and described it as “deeply troubling,” calling for increased government engagement with affected citizens to address their grievances and alleviate the economic burdens caused by DDEP.

Edem’s X post suggests VGMA robbed him of 2015 VGMA Artiste of the Year award

Ghanaian rapper Edem Goget’em has stated in a recent post on X that he should have won the Artiste of the Year slot in the 2015 Ghana Music Awards.

Likening his situation to this year’s Ballon d’Or, which Vinicius Jr. did not win, contrary to the expectations of a lot of people, he alluded in the post that even though he merited the Artiste of the Year award, it went to a different artiste.

“Why #BallondOr come dey behave like the way VGMA take do me 2015 Artist of the Year? This is a heinous crime!! A daylight robbery!! … Vinicius Jr. is the REAL WINNER’? ” he wrote.

In 2015, the nominees for the Artiste of the Year category in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards were Daddy Lumba, Stonebwoy, Guru, Edem, MzVee, Sarkodie, and Samini.

Stonebwoy, who won the Artiste of the Year slot, said in his speech, “I believe that the other artists are happy I won. Behold how tall we have grown. This is well deserved.”

Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, and Edem, who were the biggest winners on the night, took home three (3) awards each.

Edem’s ‘Koene’ had several nominations, as the remix of his song ‘The One’ also earned him a nomination in the Best Rapper Category.

Court summons Elon Musk over $1m giveaway in US election

A judge has mandated that all involved parties, including Elon Musk, appear at a court hearing in Philadelphia on Thursday regarding a lawsuit aimed at halting a political action committee (PAC) controlled by Musk from distributing $1 million to registered voters in key battleground states ahead of the U.S. election on November 5.

The lawsuit was filed by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office on Monday.

It characterises the cash giveaway by Musk’s America PAC, which supports former President Donald Trump, as an “illegal lottery” designed to lure Pennsylvania residents into providing personal information.

“It is further ordered that all parties must be present at the time of the hearing,” a judge wrote on Wednesday in an order with the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas. The hearing in the case was moved up to Thursday morning from Friday.

Donald Trump is in a closely contested race for the White House against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, according to recent polls.

A representative from America PAC did not respond promptly to a request for comment, nor have Musk’s representatives addressed enquiries on the matter.

Musk has made headlines by pledging to award $1 million daily to individuals who sign his online petition advocating for free speech and gun rights.

However, legal experts consulted by Reuters last week expressed differing opinions on whether this initiative could violate federal laws prohibiting payments for voter registration.

According to CNN, the Justice Department has issued a warning letter to America PAC, indicating that Musk’s financial incentives for registered voters who endorse his petition could be in violation of federal regulations.

The Trump campaign heavily relies on external organisations for voter outreach, making the superPAC established by Musk—who is the wealthiest individual in the world—an influential player in what is anticipated to be an extremely close election.

  • Supreme Court displayed double standards, hypocrisy – Franklin Cudjoe on vacant seats case

Supreme Court displayed double standards, hypocrisy – Franklin Cudjoe on vacant seats case

Founding president of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has voiced his disappointment regarding the Supreme Court’s apparent double standards in the matter of the four parliamentary seats declared vacant by Speaker Alban Bagbin.

In a recent opinion piece, Cudjoe remarked on the Chief Justice’s heightened concern over this case, contrasting it with the lack of attention given to the constituents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL).

He pointed out that when residents of SALL sought judicial intervention after being disenfranchised during the 2020 parliamentary elections, the Supreme Court did not address their grievances with the same urgency as it did in the case involving the MPs whose seats were declared vacant by Speaker Bagbin.

“And yet, when my SALL people were deliberately disenfranchised and we ran to the same Supreme Court for protection, it did not offer this level of comfort it so lavishly and without shame displayed on Wednesday towards other constituencies.

“We had gone to the Supreme Court to expeditiously protect our rights that had been violated and had the highest risk of being violated for the duration of the existing Parliament.”

Franklin Cudjoe expressed scepticism regarding the urgency with which the court addressed the case of the four MPs whose seats were declared vacant, questioning why such rapid action was taken. He suggested that this haste may be linked to the potential impact on the MPs’ salaries and other benefits.

The Supreme Court ruled to grant a stay of execution on Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of the four vacant seats, citing that no lawful by-elections could be conducted to replace the affected MPs between October 17, 2024, and January 7, 2025.

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who led the five-member panel overseeing the case, emphasised that this timeline was a significant factor in the court’s decision to grant the stay of execution.

“This exceptional circumstance arising from the outcome of the ruling weighed on the mind of the Supreme Court to grant an order directing a stay of execution of the ruling of the Speaker on 17th October 2024.”

However, Franklin Cudjoe questioned why the Supreme Court did not apply the same reasoning it used against SALL to lawyers representing the Majority Leader.

“What was so special about the four constituencies whose MPs had abandoned in their hearts that the Supreme Court can even entertain the hearing of an ex-parte motion procured cheaply at the speed of light and rule on that? That the delinquent MPs’ salaries and emoluments will be affected? Really??”

    Read his opinion below:

I am so shocked at the level of hypocrisy and double standards displayed by the Supreme Court today. The Chief Justice was so invested in the representation of constituents whose pampered MPs had decided to abandon them for other parties after representing them for nearly four years.

And yet, when my SALL people were deliberately disenfranchised and we ran to the same Supreme Court for protection, it did not offer this level of comfort it so lavishly and without shame displayed today towards other constituencies.

We had gone to the Supreme Court to expeditiously protect our rights that had been violated and had the highest risk of being violated for the duration of the existing Parliament.

So we went to the High Court to start our SALL case. Guess what? After three years of making our case, the High Court ruled a few months ago that it had no jurisdiction to hear our case.

For four years, we have been rendered orphans and ostracised by the system and yet we paid taxes although we saw no development. We are appealing to the Superior Court. However, with Wednesday’s contrived, shambolic display of ‘politically biassed’ support for some Ghanaians, I am not sure we will get to be heard until forever.

What was so special about the four constituencies whose MPs had abandoned in their hearts that the Supreme Court can even entertain the hearing of an ex-parte motion procured cheaply at the speed of light and rule on that?

That the delinquent MPs’ salaries and emoluments will be affected? Really?? Why didn’t the Supreme Court rely on the same principle it applied against SALL to lawyers of the Majority Leader? This is just precocious judicial terrorism aided by legal plunder. Sad.

The decisive match took place at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé, Togo, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, where Nigeria claimed victory with a score of 2-1.

Throughout the match, Nigeria displayed superior performance, with Kparobo Arierhi netting the first goal in the 35th minute. He capitalised on well-executed team play, leaving the Ghanaian defence in disarray.

Just before halftime, Arierhi struck again, doubling Nigeria’s lead and sending them into the break with a comfortable two-goal advantage.

In the second half, the Black Satellites increased their intensity in search of a goal. Despite their efforts, the Nigerian defense held firm against their advances. However, in the 76th minute, Jerry Afriyie managed to break through and score for Ghana, reigniting hopes for a comeback.

Ultimately, Ghana was unable to equalise, and the match concluded with Nigeria winning 2-1.

  • ISSER calls for a debt ceiling in Ghana to prevent another debt restructuring

ISSER calls for a debt ceiling in Ghana to prevent another debt restructuring

Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social, and Economic Research (ISSER), Professor Peter Quartey, has emphasized the importance of establishing a debt ceiling for Ghana to avert future debt restructuring.

He recommended that the government should legally limit its borrowing to 60 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to help mitigate debt servicing costs in upcoming budgets.

Prof. Quartey made these remarks during the launch of the State of Ghanaian Economy Report at the institute’s facilities. This event reflects ISSER’s dedication to fostering informed, evidence-based decision-making and promoting sustainable development.

The gathering served as a constructive forum to analyze the current economic landscape and its repercussions for the Ghanaian population.

The Professor urged the government to amend the fiscal responsibility law to incorporate a debt ceiling, which would help maintain fiscal deficits and debt levels within manageable limits.

He further emphasised the importance of the government rationalising its expenditures, especially in procurement and compensation, and advocated for the implementation of digital payroll systems to improve efficiency.

Ghana’s debt crisis deepened in 2022 when the nation defaulted on servicing both its external and internal debts. This situation was exacerbated by the country’s inability to access international markets, attributed to its junk status assigned by global rating agencies.

On December 5, 2022, the Ghanaian government initiated the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) to restructure GHS137 billion of its domestic debt.

Professor Quartey noted that Ghana’s tax capacity is low, as reflected in a tax-to-GDP ratio of 12.3 percent in 2022 and 13.64 percent in 2024. This low tax inflow has created a cycle of inadequate revenue generation needed for infrastructure development.

According to the Economics professor, the reliance on debt financing, particularly for interest payments, has become the largest expenditure category, contributing significantly to the ongoing economic instability.

He urged the government to establish a robust revenue-based system by enhancing the capabilities of revenue-generating institutions, particularly the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

The Director called for the effective monitoring of all government expenditures across MMDAs to be integrated into the GIFMIS system. He also suggested that MMDAs adopt suitable technology to improve property rate collection, decrease dependency on central government transfers, and encourage local development.

Additionally, the Professor encouraged local governments to invest in appropriate information technology systems to enhance their tax capacity.

  • Vacant seats: Supreme Court ruling on vacant seats influenced by politics – Dr. Kwabena Donkor

Vacant seats: Supreme Court ruling on vacant seats influenced by politics – Dr. Kwabena Donkor

Committee, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Employment, Social Welfare, and State Enterprises Committee, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, has openly criticised the Supreme Court’s recent dismissal of Speaker Alban Bagbin’s application.

Speaker Bagbin had filed to overturn an earlier ruling preventing him from declaring four parliamentary seats vacant.

The Supreme Court’s ruling, delivered on Wednesday, October 30, upheld its prior decision, effectively barring Speaker Bagbin from proceeding with the seat declarations and preserving the current occupants.

In an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News with Selorm Adonoo, Dr. Donkor accused the Supreme Court of prioritising political considerations over legal principles.

He took particular issue with the Chief Justice’s stance that the court’s decision aimed to prevent leaving thousands of constituents temporarily unrepresented if the Speaker’s declarations were upheld.

The Chief Justice argued in her ruling that maintaining current representation was crucial, as declaring the seats vacant would leave constituencies without parliamentary voice until by-elections could be held.

Dr. Donkor challenged this reasoning, calling it inconsistent and pointing to the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL), who have been without representation in Parliament since the 2020 elections due to administrative and boundary issues.

He argued that the court’s position on representation fails to address the ongoing disenfranchisement of the SALL communities, highlighting a selective application of the principle of representation.

He also questioned the impartiality of the court’s decisions, expressing concern over the judiciary’s role in ensuring fair and democratic representation for all Ghanaians.

“The decision is not a legal one but a political one. I have also stated that this particular Supreme Court is more political than legal.

If you listened to the argument of the Chief Justice in her ruling that thousands of Ghanaians will not have representation if the ruling of the Speaker is not stayed, it is the most flawed reasoning I have heard in Ghana’s political economy.

“It is flawed because Parliament, per its calendar, will be rising in two weeks from today. And also, the people of SALL have been without representation, and they are not Ghanaians.”

Rev Lawrence Tetteh apologises, retracts comments on HIV cases at UG

Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, founder of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, has issued an apology to the University of Ghana following remarks he made on the GTV Breakfast Show on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

In a statement released on October 29, Dr. Tetteh expressed regret for his comments, clarifying that they were not intended to discredit the university, incite fear, promote stigma, or mislead the public.

During the GTV Breakfast Show interview, Dr. Tetteh mentioned a high prevalence of HIV cases among students at the university.

“The number of boys and girls in Legon who are HIV positive, you would have the biggest shock of your life. This is sad, this is sad, and I’m happy I’m saying this on national TV,” he said on October 24.

“Some of these young boys and young girls already on campus are living promiscuous lives, and they have already contracted HIV/AIDS. These are people I have prayed for… and I’m not talking about 10 years, 5 years,” the pastor added.

In an October 24, 2024, press release, the University described Rev. Tetteh’s comments as “unfounded, insensitive, and disappointing,” emphasising that his statements were not supported by any data and could foster fear, stigma, and misinformation.

The institution expressed strong disapproval, calling the remarks distasteful and condemning them, while also requesting an apology from Rev. Tetteh.

In his response today, the clergyman clarified that his remarks were not intended to single out the university or its students but to shed light on the broader challenges facing youth. Rev. Dr. Tetteh explained that his role often involves interacting with individuals who trust him with confidential and sensitive information.

He reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the privacy of those who confide in him and acknowledged the unintended effects of his comments.

“It is rather unfortunate that in referring to the youth with such problems, I linked or associated it with students of the University of Ghana, thereby giving the university community cause for worry,” Rev. Dr. Tetteh stated in his apology.

He offered a retraction of his statements and reiterated his deep regret for any distress caused.

Rev. Dr. Tetteh reaffirmed his respect for the institution and the trust placed in him by those who share personal information with him.

  • Parliament to reconvene early November – Speaker announces

Parliament to reconvene early November – Speaker announces

The Office of the Speaker of Parliament is preparing to recall Parliament in early November in response to a petition from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus, which urged the Speaker to reconvene the House to address urgent issues.

Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin informed a five-member delegation from the Council of State, led by Chairman Nana Otuo Siriboe II, that steps are already underway to facilitate Parliament’s recall.

The delegation visited the Speaker to gain insight into recent legislative developments, including the indefinite adjournment of the House.

In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, the Parliamentary Service shared that, following extensive discussions, Council members expressed their commitment to assisting the Speaker and House leadership in resolving any ongoing issues to enable Parliament’s prompt resumption.

The Speaker also briefed the delegation on the circumstances in Parliament and elaborated on his recent pronouncements on the floor.

He assured the Council of his dedication to advancing the nation’s democracy. However, he explained his current obligation to lead a Ghanaian delegation to the 67th Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

The delegation includes Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, former Majority Leader and MP for Suame, along with the two House leaders, Whips, the Clerk to Parliament, and other Parliamentary Service officials.

The CPA Conference is set to take place from November 3 to November 8, during which Speaker Bagbin, as the outgoing CPA International President, is expected to transfer leadership to the newly elected President, the Speaker of the New South Wales Parliament.

However, Speaker Bagbin indicated his intention to return to Ghana earlier than initially planned to fulfill MPs’ request to recall Parliament.

The Council praised Speaker Bagbin for upholding Ghana’s democratic integrity through his legislative leadership and international roles, including his presidency of CPA International, the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSHAL), and his executive membership with the International Legislative Advisory Council of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) in the United States. Nana Otuo Siriboe encouraged him to continue these efforts for the benefit of Ghana and its citizens.

The Speaker has recently been re-elected to a second term as President of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures. On October 22, he indefinitely suspended parliamentary proceedings due to ongoing legal proceedings related to his October 17 declaration of four seats as vacant.

This action led the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to claim majority status, as two of the affected seats belong to NPP members running as independents in the December 7 election, while a third seat is held by an independent candidate allied with the NPP. The fourth seat belongs to an NDC member.

The impacted MPs include Andrew Asiamah Amoako, Second Deputy Speaker and MP for Fomena, who serves as an independent member; Madam Cynthia, the NPP MP for Agona West; Mr. Kwadjo Asante, NPP MP for Suhum; and Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, the NDC MP for Amenfi Central.

Upon adjourning the House, Speaker Bagbin noted that he had received a Supreme Court directive to stay his previous ruling regarding the four vacant seats. Although Parliament had a quorum to conduct business, he stated that the House lacked sufficient numbers to make formal decisions.

“Hon. members, we don’t have at least half of all the Members of Parliament present. Consequently, in view of the current circumstances, the fact that there’s a question on the composition and constitution of Parliament, and having regard to the public interest, and the exigencies of the affairs in Parliament, I will proceed in accordance with standing order 59 adjourn the house indefinitely, that is sine die.

“Hon. members, I have consulted leadership, and I’m exercising my discretion to decide to suspend the meeting of the house indefinitely – the House is accordingly.”

Prior to the declaration of the four seats as vacant, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin submitted an application to the Supreme Court, requesting it to prevent the Speaker from ruling on the matter in response to a motion filed by the Minority to declare the seats vacant.

However, on Wednesday, October 30, the Supreme Court declined the Speaker’s request to overturn its prior ruling suspending the Speaker’s declaration of the seats as vacant, given Afenyo-Markin’s application before the court.

The Court has now scheduled November 11 for its final judgment on the main application submitted by Mr. Afenyo-Markin.

AFCON 2025Q: Black Stars to face Niger at Accra Sports Stadium on November 18

Ghana is set to take on Niger in the final match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.

This match follows the stadium’s recent approval for hosting the previous qualifier against Sudan in October.

Led by coach Otto Addo, the Black Stars are determined to secure a spot in next year’s AFCON tournament, which will be held in Morocco.

Currently, Ghana occupies the third position in Group F, with only two points from four matches. They trail the group leaders, Angola, by ten points and are five points behind second-placed Sudan.

The outcome of the match against Sudan in October means the Black Stars must win their next two qualifying games in November while relying on Sudan to lose theirs to qualify for the tournament in Morocco.

It’s time for the church to wake up, help members; many have resorted to prostitution to survive – Broda Sammy

Ghanaian gospel artist Broda Sammy has expressed his worries regarding the financial struggles faced by young women in church communities, suggesting that some are resorting to “hookup” culture to make ends meet.

In a recent appearance on United Showbiz on October 26, 2024, he called on churches to actively support their struggling members, warning that a lack of assistance could lead to serious consequences within the community.

During the discussion, Broda Sammy stated, “Some female church members are now engaged in hookups; there is no money.”

He criticised churches that encourage donations but fail to use their considerable financial resources to alleviate the hardships of their congregants.

He emphasised that the funds collected could be redirected to offer genuine support to those in need.

Broda Sammy also pointed out that many congregations have been established for over fifty years and possess properties that significantly lower their operational costs, negating the need for rent and large overhead expenses.

He argued that this financial stability positions these churches to provide more substantial assistance to their members.

He pointed out, “Some churches have been in existence for more than 50 years. They do not have many expenses because they own most of their property.

Some of their members have been selling tomatoes at the markets for years and have been consistently giving their little 1 cedi as an offering but are not getting any help.”

Broda Sammy went on to warn that a lack of change in approach could lead to declining church attendance, urging churches to rethink their strategies for community engagement and soul-winning, placing more focus on members’ welfare. He cautioned, “One day, there will be nobody to attend.”

I hold no grudge against Kofi Kinaata — Ras Kuuku

Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artist Ras Kuuku has announced that he has reconciled with fellow musician Kofi Kinaata. During a recent interview on Hitz FM, the former winner of the TGMA reggae/dancehall category shared that he no longer harbours any resentment.

This comes after he had previously expressed his disappointment regarding Kofi Kinaata’s choice to exclude his verse from the track “Efiekuma Love.” Ras Kuuku emphasised that he values their relationship and has moved past the issue.

“I only spoke about Kofi’s decision to drop my verse, and after sharing my thoughts, I didn’t harbour any issues. I’m sure Kofi Kinaata feels the same way,” he said. “We are all working for Ghanaian music.

This happened in 2020, and it’s been a long time,” he stated.

Ras Kuuku added that if Kofi Kinaata is interested in another collaboration, he would be open to it.

“I initially planned not to collaborate with Kofi Kinaata anymore, but since we’re doing this for Mother Ghana and the music industry, I wouldn’t hesitate if Kofi wants to work with me,” he said.

In 2023, Ras Kuuku disclosed that his verse was removed from Kofi Kinaata’s hit song “Efiekuma Love” for reasons that remain unclear.

He explained that he had originally recorded his part back in 2020, only to discover it was absent when the track was later re-released. This unexpected change disappointed him, as he had anticipated his contribution would be part of the final version.

Kudus scores incredible goal during West Ham United’s training session

Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus, displayed his exceptional skills during training with West Ham, executing a brilliantly clever dinked goal.

Currently, Kudus is serving the first match of a three-game suspension. He watched from the stands as the Hammers secured a Premier League victory over Manchester United at the London Olympic Stadium last Sunday.

The Ghanaian player is sidelined for two additional matches due to a straight red card he received during the October 19, 2024, clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old appears to have moved on from the challenging phase of his Premier League journey, fully committing himself to training.

In the match against Tottenham Hotspur, Kudus lost his composure following a confrontation with Micky Van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr. The English FA has charged him with ‘violent conduct and improper behaviour,’ and he is anticipated to take valuable lessons from this suspension.

Since joining West Ham from Ajax in the summer of 2023, Kudus has emerged as a crucial player for the team. So far this season, he has scored two goals in eight Premier League appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

Real Madrid reportedly accuses UEFA of influencing Vinicius Junior’s 2024 Ballon d’Or snub

Drama unfolded at the 2024 Ballon d’Or gala as Rodri was awarded the coveted trophy over Vinicius Junior, sparking surprise among fans.

Real Madrid reportedly believed Vinicius was a strong favourite, supported by a significant fan base and prominent figures within football.

According to Madrid Universal, the club suspects UEFA’s influence played a role in the decision, potentially due to ongoing tensions with Real Madrid stemming from their support of the European Super League.

For the first time since 1956, UEFA collaborated with France Football on the Ballon d’Or, a fact that has heightened Real Madrid’s suspicions about UEFA’s role in swaying the results in Rodri’s favour.

Additionally, Real Madrid contends that the criteria used to select Rodri could have instead recognised Dani Carvajal, further emphasising the club’s dissatisfaction.

As a result of these perceived injustices, Real Madrid opted to boycott the ceremony, expressing their belief that their club was undervalued in the proceedings.

In a related report by TUKO.co.ke, despite the prestige of the Ballon d’Or award, it was revealed that there is no financial prize associated with winning this trophy.

Salifu Amoako’s son discharged from hospital; medical report declares him not fit for interrogation

The minor driver who crashed a Jaguar vehicle into an Acura at East Legon on October 12 has been discharged from the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).

This is according to a medical report

“He is currently mobilising non weight bearing on his right leg. He was discharged on 28 October 2024 to be reviewed on O.P.D basis. He is currently not fit to be sent to the police station for interrogation. When he is done with treatment, I will inform you accordingly,” the doctor wrote.

On October 12, 2024, a tragic accident occurred on Mensah Wood Street, East Legon, involving a Jaguar SUV driven by 16-year-old Elrad Salifu Amoako, who was accompanied by a passenger.

The Jaguar, bearing registration GN 7801-20, collided with a 4×4 Acura vehicle with registration GR 2542-23, driven by Joseph Ackah and carrying four additional passengers.

The impact caused both vehicles to catch fire, leaving them burnt beyond recognition.

Police investigations revealed that three of the five occupants in the Acura were rescued, while two young passengers, Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, both aged 12, tragically lost their lives.

The surviving rescued passengers, who sustained minor injuries, received medical treatment and were discharged shortly after. The two deceased have since been laid to rest.

  • Vacant seats case: Supreme Court rejects Speaker’s motion for Justice Gaewu’s recusal

Vacant seats case: Supreme Court rejects Speaker’s motion for Justice Gaewu’s recusal

The Supreme Court has rejected an application from the Speaker of Parliament seeking to have Justice Ernest Gaewu recuse himself from a panel tasked with hearing a case regarding the Speaker’s authority to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.

Represented by his legal team, the Speaker argued for the court to nullify a previous ruling that directed him to suspend his October 17 decision declaring the seats vacant.

During the hearing on Wednesday, October 30, counsel for the Speaker, Thaddeus Sory, raised concerns over Justice Gaewu’s involvement in the case, claiming that his past as a parliamentary candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta Region could compromise his impartiality in a matter potentially impacting the party.

Mr. Sory argued that Justice Gaewu’s political ties to the NPP could affect his judgement in the case, given the party’s potential stake in the outcome.

However, the court dismissed this application, allowing Justice Gaewu to remain on the panel.
“He was known to be associated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and in fact he was a parliamentary candidate in one of their constituencies in the Volta Region,” Thaddeus Sory argued.

But the apex court says the law does not bar one from serving as a judge of the Supreme Court because they belonged to a particular political party.

In her ruling, the Chief Justice highlighted that once a nominee is vetted and approved by Parliament, it indicates they are qualified to preside over cases of this nature.

She noted that the court already includes a former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and an ex-parliamentary candidate from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), underscoring the nonpartisan capacity of judges despite prior political affiliations.

The case at hand addresses the Speaker’s declaration that several seats in Parliament were vacant due to Members of Parliament (MPs) shifting their political allegiance. According to Article 97(g)(h) of the Constitution, MPs who align with a different political party than the one on whose ticket they were elected are considered to have vacated their seats.

Following the Speaker’s decision on October 17, 2024, the prior Majority caucus lost members, making it the Minority, while the previous Minority caucus became the Majority.

Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, Leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus, subsequently filed a case with the Supreme Court to seek an interpretation of Article 97.

The court granted a temporary stay on the Speaker’s ruling until a final judgment on the matter is reached after an ex parte application from Afenyo-Markin.

In response, the NPP caucus boycotted the October 22 parliamentary session, which led the Speaker to adjourn Parliament indefinitely due to insufficient quorum.

  • Sean “Diddy” Combs faces two new lawsuits for allegedly sexually assaulting minors

Sean “Diddy” Combs faces two new lawsuits for allegedly sexually assaulting minors

Two new sexual assault lawsuits have been lodged against Sean “Diddy” Combs, alleging misconduct when the plaintiffs were minors. Both suits, filed in New York, involve claims from males who were underage during the alleged incidents.

One plaintiff states he was just 10 years old at the time, while the other claims he was assaulted while auditioning for the MTV reality series “Making the Band,” which Mr. Combs produced.

In response to the allegations, representatives for Mr. Combs issued a statement to the BBC, firmly denying any wrongdoing. They asserted that he has “never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor”.

Warning: This story contains details some readers may find disturbing

In recent months, Mr. Combs has been confronted with over two dozen lawsuits alleging serious offences such as rape, drugging individuals, assaults on minors, intimidation, and sexual extortion.

Additionally, the rapper is facing federal criminal charges related to an alleged conspiracy involving sex trafficking and racketeering, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

On Monday, two lawsuits were filed by attorney Tony Buzbee, who claims to represent more than 100 alleged victims and intends to submit numerous lawsuits against Mr. Combs in the weeks ahead.

In the first lawsuit, which was filed anonymously, the plaintiff alleges that Mr Combs assaulted him in 2005 when he was 10 years old and an aspiring actor and rapper.

To support their son’s ambitions in entertainment, the boy’s parents enlisted the help of an industry consultant who suggested they travel to New York for meetings with music professionals.

During the trip, the consultant set up an “audition” with Mr Combs, who requested a private meeting with the boy, the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit claims the consultant escorted the boy to Mr Combs’ hotel room, where he was left alone. The boy performed several rap songs for Mr Combs, who told him he had the potential to become a star.

Read more on the allegations against Diddy:

According to the complaint, Mr Combs asked the boy how committed he was to pursuing his dream, and the boy replied that he would “do anything.”

During the meeting, a third person gave the boy a soda that made him feel “funny,” but at the time, the plaintiff thought the feelings were from happiness over the meeting, the lawsuit states.

The rapper is then accused of disrobing and ordering the boy to perform a sex act.

When the boy resisted, Mr Combs allegedly assaulted him. The plaintiff says in the complaint that he lost consciousness and woke up in pain with his pants undone.

Mr Combs told him if he told anyone he would hurt his parents, according to the lawsuit.

In the second lawsuit, an unnamed male alleges he was sexually assaulted by Mr Combs in 2008.

The plaintiff was 17 when he was auditioning for the MTV reality competition Mr Combs produced.

During various rounds of the audition process, Mr Combs allegedly asked the plaintiff how he would handle situations involving sexual pressure.

He and his bodyguard went on to force the teen into sexual acts, the lawsuit states.

Mr Combs is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, New York following his September arrest on federal charges.

He was denied bail and will remain in custody until his trial in May.

He has denied all the allegations against him.

“Mr Combs and his legal team have full confidence in the facts and the integrity of the judicial process,” his representatives said.

If convicted of racketeering, he could face life in prison.

Akua Donkor’s children threaten to invoke more curses on Delay if she doesn’t apologise

The family of the late Akua Donkor has given Deloris Frimpong Manso, known as Delay, a deadline to apologise for her disparaging remarks about their loved one, warning her of potential consequences if she does not comply.

In a widely circulated video, one of Akua Donkor’s sons expressed his outrage over Delay’s comments made during a controversial interview. He stated that the curse Akua Donkor placed on Delay would persist until she offers a formal apology.

“She can’t invite someone onto her platform and insult them. Our mother may be gone, but if Delay wants peace of mind, she should come to our family house and apologise to our family head, or she will face our wrath. If she does that, we will forgive her,” he said.

One of Akua Donkor’s daughters has made it clear that she holds a grudge against Delay and cannot bring herself to forgive her.

She asserted that if Delay continues to refuse an apology, she plans to invoke further curses upon her.

“I will not let Delay find peace for insulting my mother. If she doesn’t apologise to me and the rest of the family, I will buy a sheep and invoke curses on her,” she stated.

The kinsmen are also asking Delay to take the necessary steps to meet with them and appease Akua Donkor, or she will face the consequences.

    Background

In a recent interview on Agyenkwa FM, Akua Donkor recounted a bitter encounter with Delay on “The Delay Show” nine years ago, which left her feeling humiliated.

She alleged that Delay insulted and disrespected her, prompting her to place a curse on the media personality.

She recalled, “I cursed her after the show, saying that if she hasn’t given birth before, she will never give birth. Also, she will never find a better man to marry in this life until she dies. You left your mother to come and call me a mad woman?

“Yes! I told her that! If I drove all the way from Kumasi to be humiliated like this, and you have already called me a witch and now a mad woman, then I am leaving. But I told her that she would not find a better man to marry, let alone have kids in this life! And then I stood up and left…” Akua Donkor said.

Ghanaian rapper M.anifest has expressed his views on the country’s ongoing economic difficulties.

  • Deaths from mining fatalities rise by a staggering 600%

Deaths from mining fatalities rise by a staggering 600%

Ghana’s mining industry faced a significant increase in fatalities last year, with deaths rising by a staggering 600%.

In 2023, seven workers lost their lives, compared to just one in the previous year. Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Dr. Sulemanu Koney, emphasised that this alarming trend underscores the persistent challenges within the sector and the urgent need for improved safety measures.

Of the seven fatalities, four were linked to contractor operations, while the remaining three were associated with the activities of a mining leaseholder. This data highlights the critical areas that require immediate attention to enhance worker safety in the mining sector.

“All classes of reportable injuries increased year-on-year, except near-misses and serious injuries. The frequency of near-miss incidents declined from 325 in 2022 to 254 in 2023, translating into a downturn of 21.8 percent,” Dr. Koney revealed.

Dr. Sulemanu Koney reported that the number of First Aid injuries in the mining sector rose slightly from 156 in 2022 to 162 in 2023. However, he noted a positive trend in serious injuries—those resulting in a loss of more than 14 days of work—decreasing by 34.6% from 26 in 2022 to 17 in 2023.

Speaking at the ‘Annual Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition’ organised by Asante Gold Chirano Limited, Dr. Koney acknowledged that while the industry faces unique challenges, these could also serve as opportunities for innovative safety improvements.

To tackle these growing safety concerns, the Ghana Chamber of Mines has introduced several initiatives to enhance safety preparedness. A significant initiative is the Safety Webinar Series, which has seen robust participation from industry members and contractors.

Additionally, the Chamber is collaborating with St. John Ambulance to strengthen emergency response capabilities, leveraging their expertise to improve safety standards across the sector.

Dr. Koney urged industry players to adopt a proactive approach to safety. “Every worker must feel safe on our sites. Safety is not just a regulatory requirement but a moral responsibility,” he stressed.

The Chamber urged its members to actively promote contractor involvement in the Safety Webinar initiative, emphasizing the importance of keeping all participants informed about the latest safety standards and procedures.

Dr. Koney highlighted that the mining sector plays a vital role in the nation’s economy, stressing the necessity of maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all workers and ensuring community safety.

“For this reason, we will continue to involve our community members, especially women, in the safety competitions to ensure alignment with safety goals.”

He was optimistic that the practical nature of the Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition would educate all miners on measures to take in case of an accident, either at home or at the workplace.

This year’s event was held under the theme ‘Safety: Our Collective Responsibility’.

The General Manager of Asante Gold Chirano Ltd., Ing Alfred Asante Yamoah, also speaking at the event, noted that the theme is a reminder that safety is a shared commitment across every level of the mining industry.

He particularly noted that the “inclusion of community teams reinforces the mining industry’s commitment to improving the lot of our host communities, and in this case, equipping everyone with first aid knowledge because emergencies can happen anywhere”.

Among other things, he said Asante Gold Corporation prioritises safety. “Safety is a prerequisite for everything we do and prime value. It shapes how we work and engage with one another, ensuring that everyone returns home safe each day.”

The Paramount Chief of Sefwi-Chirano, Okoagyeaman Kwaku Gyanprah III, in his closing remarks, also recognised that “first aid is an essential skill that empowers individuals to act with confidence in emergencies.”

He said: “Through events like this, we reinforce the strong bonds between our mining companies and their host communities. When the community and industry work hand in hand, safety becomes a shared value that benefits everyone. We are one family, and today’s competition has strengthened that sense of unity.”

He commended the organisers of the event, noting that their commitment ensures that safety and preparedness remain central to the mining industry’s growth and success.

I had about 20 boyfriends before Ned Nwoko – Regina Daniels reveals

Regina Daniels revealed that her mother and entire family were against her marriage to Ned Nwoko, the Senator from Delta North.

Disclosing this during a live on Instagram, the actress said: “I went to visit my boyfriend, and I was so angry about why we had to go sightseeing, but when we got there, I met a cute man.

“The moral of the story is that your boyfriend should not stop you from seeing your husband.

“When I started with my husband, I forgot I was to have boyfriends; of course, I had like 20. When people think I don’t have a choice, I’m like, what?

“People were saying Mummy forced me, not knowing that she was against the marriage; my full family said no.”

Nwoko tied the knot with Regina Daniels in May 2019 in the Aniocha Local Government Area of Delta State, despite their significant age difference.

The 63-year-old politician expressed that he chose to marry the 23-year-old actress because she hails from his community.

“For her particularly, I married her because she is from my place. I wanted to marry a wife from my place and was looking for the right person. By the time I met her, I knew she must be the one,” Nwoko had said.

Bagbin inaugurates New Supplementary Office Complex for Parliament

On Tuesday, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin officially opened a newly constructed supplementary office complex at Parliament House in Accra. This five-storey building, positioned behind the Job 600 Annex, will serve multiple functions, including housing the Parliamentary Training Institute, several critical departments, specialist offices, commercial banks, and convenience shops.

The office complex project began in June 2021, with ADK Consortium as the consultant and China State Hualong Construction Limited as the main contractor. Dignitaries at the event included former Speaker Aaron Mike Oquaye and Johnson Asiedu Nketia, a Parliamentary Service Board member and Chairman of the NDC.

During the ceremony, Reverend Aku Ofori Boateng from the Anglican Diocese of Accra dedicated the building. In his remarks, Speaker Bagbin acknowledged the foundational work of previous leaders, particularly Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye and Edward Doe Adjaho, in advancing the project.

“Let me first express my joy over the completion of this project—the Parliament Supplementary Office Project, which commenced a few years ago,” he stated. “The inauguration of this important project today marks another significant milestone in our quest to enhance the infrastructure base of the Parliamentary Service as part of strategies to transform the institution into a resilient and dynamic parliamentary administration.”

Over the past three and a half years, the Parliamentary Service Board has undertaken extensive reforms to enhance support services for Parliament through a restructuring of the Parliamentary Service.

Key to these improvements was the approval of a new organisational structure and the hiring of skilled professionals to occupy essential roles, promoting a balanced mix of skills and operational efficiency within the Service.

Recognizing the need for adequate infrastructure to fully realize these reforms, the Board identified expansion and enhancement of institutional facilities as crucial. This infrastructure development was seen as essential for achieving the broader objectives of the Parliamentary Service reforms.

“Let me emphasise here that our resolve and collective effort to provide the Parliamentary Service with the requisite facilities to enhance its service delivery is what has translated into this beautiful edifice that we all see today,” he said.

Speaker Bagbin added that the complex is designed to meet the evolving needs of the organisation, featuring flexible workspaces and cutting-edge technology.

“Let me assure you that we will not rest on our oars. The Board, together with Management, will continue to improve our infrastructural facilities and create a working environment of comparable international standards,” he stated.

The Speaker highlighted that the inclusion of commercial stores in the new building is designed to foster a convenient ecosystem for Parliament, where time and effort typically spent on sourcing essential items can be minimised. This setup aims to boost productivity, particularly for Members of Parliament and their offices, by streamlining daily operations.

He also praised the efforts of Messrs. ADK Consortium, the project consultant, and Messrs. China State Hualong Construction Limited, the contractor, for successfully completing the project on time. Additionally, he expressed appreciation for the hard work and dedication shown by Parliament’s Development Services Sub-Division teams, including the Works, Facilities, and Estate units.

“As we unveil this building for use by the Service, I encourage each of you to take ownership of this space; let us make it our own by taking very good care of it through a proactive maintenance culture,” he said. “It is my prayer that this facility will continue to stay fit and functional for the benefit of present and future generations.”

Mr. Cyril K.O. Nsiah, the Clerk to Parliament, expressed gratitude to the Chairman (Speaker Bagbin) and members of the Parliamentary Service Board for their dedication to improving Parliament’s infrastructure to achieve organizational goals.
