Greek rescuers murdered in car accident in Libya

Five people from Greece who were helping others in need and three people from Libya who were part of a family, were killed in a car accident in the eastern part of Libya.

The helpers were part of a group that was going on a bus to the city of Derna, which had been badly affected by a flood. However, their bus crashed into a car that had the family inside.

According to a Libyan official, two people in the car and eight people on the bus were seriously hurt.

    An investigation has started.

Othman Abdeljalil, who is in charge of healthcare in the eastern part of the country, said in a press conference that a group of people was traveling from Benghazi, a city in the east, when the accident occurred.

He said that four people died, but Greek officials said that five members of their aid team were killed.

The Greek army and foreign ministry are bringing back five people, including three officials and two translators, to Athens on Monday. This was announced by the Greek chiefs of staff, according to AFP news agency.

The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, described the accident as a very sad and unfortunate event.

“He said that everyone in the entire country is feeling very sad. ”

Libya is divided into two rival governments. One is supported by the United Nations and is located in the capital, Tripoli. The other is supported by Egypt and is based in Benghazi.

The Greek authorities say that a bus with medical workers crashed into a car going the other way.

They said it wasn’t clear what happened and they’re trying to figure it out with Libya’s help. They’re also bringing their people back.

A person who knows about diplomacy told a news site in Greece that 16 of the team members were rescue workers from Greece and three were translators.

They were going to meet up with teams from France and Italy that were already on the ground.

A lot of people died when two dams near Derna broke because of a big storm last week. The United Nations says that about 11,300 people have died.

More than 10,000 people are still officially considered missing, according to information from the UN’s Office for the Co-Ordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Mohbad’s mum reveals details about her son’s life before his death

Mrs. Aloba, the mother of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as MohBad, has broken her silence after her son’s tragic death.

In a video, she described her son’s final days and revealed how he was allegedly mistreated and harassed by his former boss, Afeez Fashola (Naira Marley), and his associates, leading to his untimely demise.

She refuted rumors of her son’s mental instability and explained that he lived in constant fear during his last days.

Mrs. Aloba affirmed MohBad’s assertions that he was given a white substance to ingest, stating, “My son was in the studio working when the other boys were arrested. He wasn’t even in the house when officers visited.

“Upon his release, MohBad told me he was given something to drink, and from that day, things got worse.

“My son lived in perpetual fear till the day he died. His troubles began when he joined Marlian Music. He ceased to be at peace since that day.

“I was called on multiple occasions and told how my son was battered and assaulted by Naira Marley and his people.

“MohBad boycotted several shows because of information that Naira Marley and his boys could be at the same show.

“MohBad was not mentally ill. I have remained quiet because I wasn’t permitted to speak until now. He was married with a son. How do people tag such a person as mad?

“I was home when I got a call on Monday that my son had passed. I was just with him days earlier, this is painful.

“All the people spreading rumours about him, fear God.

“Whoever has a hand in his death will surely face the wrath of God.”

Mrs. Aloba went on to say that when her son told her about his contract with Naira Marley, she knew he had bitten off more than he could chew.

“I knew trouble was looming when he told me about Naira Marley.

“I am calling on Nigerians to help me get justice for my son,” she pleaded, crying.

MohBad passed away on Tuesday, September 12, at the age of 27.

  • United Nations issue alert over potential disease outbreak after flood in Libya

United Nations issue alert over potential disease outbreak after flood in Libya

The UN has warned that people in eastern Libya who were affected by flooding are at a high risk of getting sick due to polluted water and a lack of proper sanitation.

Teams from nine United Nations (UN) agencies are providing help to people in need. They are giving emergency medical supplies that can support 15,000 individuals for three months.

Last week, during a strong storm, two dams near Derna broke and caused the death of many people.

The UN says that 11,300 people have died and over 10,000 are still missing.

The United Nations in Libya is working with Libyan authorities and other countries to make sure that the correct help is given to the right people, at the correct moment.

  • Rescuers in Libya ask for more assistance to recover bodies from the sea

Rescuers in Libya ask for more assistance to recover bodies from the sea

The teams from different countries are asking for more assistance to recover the bodies of people who died in the powerful floods that happened in the city of Derna in Libya.

Over a week now, the teams said most of the victims’ bodies are in the sea, and some are in hard-to-reach places that require special tools to access.

The person from Tunisia said in a meeting with representatives from other countries that the bodies are decaying a lot and it may become impossible to get them back at some point. “We require help to make our intervention more effective,” he said.

Representatives from the UAE, Egypt, and Algeria said they found dead bodies in the Mediterranean Sea in places that can only be reached by special boats.

The person from Algeria said that his team saw about 50 dead bodies from a high cliff, about 7 miles away from the Derna port. However, only divers and boats can reach that area.

The person from Egypt said that if we have the correct boats, we can bring back 100 bodies each day.

A very bad flood happened last Sunday and it washed away whole neighborhoods into the Mediterranean Sea.

We don’t know how many people have been affected by the floods in Derna. A report from the UN, released on Saturday, says that the number of people who have died has gone up to at least 11,300. There are also 10,100 people who are still missing.

However, the officials in Libya disagreed with this number. The health ministry of Libya’s eastern government said they have recorded 3,252 deaths in Derna. They believe the United Nations’ count is not correct. The health ministry records information about the dead bodies that are found and put in graves.

Over 40,000 people in northeastern Libya were forced out of their homes due to heavy rain brought by Storm Daniel, according to the United Nations.

According to experts, the storm’s impact was made much worse by a deadly combination of factors including old and falling apart infrastructure, not enough warnings, and the effects of climate change getting worse.

Derna, the center of the disaster, was divided into two parts when flood waters came and destroyed whole neighborhoods, creating a path to the sea. It had about 100,000 people before the sad event.

The waterfront is now being used as the main place to deliver and transport dead bodies for burial. This is because it is not safe to have decomposing bodies in multiple locations due to the health risks.

On Saturday, a group of people from CNN saw at least four bodies being carried and placed into a truck.

Two people from Derna who were helping said that on Saturday, 22 dead bodies were brought for burial. They said that on Friday, up to 90 dead bodies were brought.

The bodies of the people who died are not easily recognizable after seven days of flooding as they all appear similar. This was explained by a volunteer to CNN.

Asma Awad, one more person who offered to help, told Jomana that she lost many family members, including her husband’s whole family. Derna was a very pretty city, Awad said, and she nicknamed it “the mermaid. ”

Awad asked if Derna will recover and start again, then started crying.

  •  Davido’s father’s private jet reportedly catches fire

Davido’s father’s private jet reportedly catches fire

A private jet belonging to Chief Adeleke, father of Afrobeat star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has reportedly caught fire just before take off.

The fire incident reportedly occurred at the domestic wing of the Airport at about 9:am when the jet was about to take off from Lagos to Abuja.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and his aides, the uncle of Davido reportedly made it out of the private jet they boarded alive.

A Bombadier Global Express 6000 reportedly caught fire at takeoff at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos by chance, according to a report by leadership.

The report stated that, the jet with Governor Adeleke and his aides on board, had taxied to the end of the runway shortly before departure when a loud explosion was heard from the engine of the jet, causing it to abort take-off immediately.

According to the report, the jet had been parked at the airport’s Executive Jet hangar before its planned takeoff.

According to Sam Iwuajoku, the chief executive officer of Executive Jets, the owner of the hangar where the private jet was parked, the Chief Adeleke’s private jet had Foreign Object Damage (FOD), resulting in a high temperature, which led to the explosion.

“At take-off, the engine had high temperature and it was caused by bird nest in one of the engines of the aircraft. It happened when an aircraft is parked and not properly covered so, birds will build their nest and anything they bring into the aircraft can spark high temperature.” Sam Iwuajoku told the publication

“It happened to one of my aircraft in 2021, we had to remove the engine and the engine was in Germany for 14 months. So, it’s a common thing in Africa because we have birds around,” he added

  • United Nations (UN) host summit for world leaders throughout this week

United Nations (UN) host summit for world leaders throughout this week

After lots of speeches, meetings, and parties next week at the UNGA summit, the United Nations is ready to declare World Peace at the end of the global event.

I wish Compared to previous UN General Assemblies, the topics addressed in the two-week summit are larger in number, more volatile, and harder to resolve. Some of these topics include Russia’s war in Ukraine, severe floods in Libya, several coups in Africa, debates about economic funding between North and South regions, the violent crisis in Haiti, and the issue of climate change.

The event’s impact may not be as strong because only US President Joe Biden from the UN Security Council’s permanent members will be present. French President Emmanuel Macron is not going out and is waiting at home to meet King Charles and address worsening situations in Niger and Sudan. The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has decided not to go somewhere, which is unusual for his country. The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, now faces the possibility of being arrested when he travels. Chinese leader Xi Jinping rarely visits. Some experienced United Nations members say that it is normal for one out of every five things to happen in the history of the United Nations General Assembly.

However, about 140 leaders of countries are planned to be present. Six vice presidents, four deputy prime ministers, and over 30 ministers of state and chiefs of delegations will also speak at the podium to share their thoughts on behalf of their countries. If you don’t usually watch the United Nations, you should still watch UNTV on Tuesday. Brazil will start talking, followed by the United States, Ukraine, and Cuba, among others.

For the first time in the annual summit, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine will be present in person. Before, he was seen on video screens in the General Assembly Hall. He is also supposed to have a conversation with Biden in Washington on Thursday.

Disagreements between powerful countries in the UN could make it difficult to improve relationships and make progress on various issues. The Swiss Ambassador Pascale Baeriswyl observed that there is increasing competition between the United States and China. The Human Rights Watch group asked nations to focus on human rights rather than politics during the week’s events.

The week is a chance for smaller countries to show us what is most important to them. Last week, US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that she doesn’t view the week as a competition between powerful nations.

But during a meeting specifically about Ukraine at the Security Council, expect Zelensky to confront Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, if he attends this meeting. There are also individual meetings between UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey. The United Nations wants Russia to be a part of the grain deal in the Black Sea again. Russia and Ukraine will not have a meeting in New York.

Last week, Guterres explained that it is very important to stand up against people who misuse their power to restrict democracy. However, a diplomat from the Security Council has claimed that Russia has violated the UN charter by invading Ukraine, which is a neighboring country.

On Monday, there will be a lot of discussion about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals were created a long time ago to help make poverty, education, and health better. One person told CNN that only 15 percent of the money needed to achieve those goals is available.

The general public, who are usually allowed to visit the main office, are not allowed to come in during the busy week. Protesters might shout and hold up signs close by, but the people in fancy cars going in and out of the UN area won’t pay attention to them.

Every year, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) attracts some special people from outside the organization. In 2021, BTS, who are very popular K-pop stars, excited and entertained their fans by playing around in the Assembly Hall. This time, tennis champion Roger Federer will be at the location. Prince William and his wife Catherine will meet the UN Secretary-General on Monday afternoon to support William’s Earthshot climate initiative.

So, now we can call UNGA the Royal Rumble. But no one forcefully pushes someone’s diplomatic face into a corner of the wrestling ring. For over a week, people have been arguing with each other using words while we are all waiting for some actual action to address a long list of problems.

  • Taiwan requests Beijing to stop its ‘military harassment’ after 103 Chinese warplanes fly close to island

Taiwan requests Beijing to stop its ‘military harassment’ after 103 Chinese warplanes fly close to island

Taiwan’s defense ministry wants China to stop its continuous military disruption. Taiwan noticed over 100 Chinese warplanes near the island in just one day.

The ministry said that the large number of warplanes observed in the area created serious problems for the safety of Taiwan Strait and the region.

Based on a map from the government, 40 out of 103 Chinese military planes flew past the middle line in the Taiwan Strait and into Taiwan’s self-declared zone for air defense.

These 40 incidents were done by a group of different fighter planes including Su-30, J-10, J-11, J-16. There were also two aerial refueling aircraft called Y-20 and two early warning and control planes named KJ-500.

An ADIZ is a zone that a country sets up on its own, and it is different from the airspace that a country controls. Sovereign airspace is the area that a country has authority over, and it is usually 12 nautical miles from the coast of the country. No planes from China were seen entering Taiwan’s airspace that belongs to Taiwan.

China’s ruling Communist Party believes that Taiwan, a democratic island with a population of 24 million people, belongs to them, even though they have never governed it.

The Communist Party wants to connect Taiwan with China, even if they have to use force. However, the Taiwanese government strongly disagrees with China’s belief that Taiwan belongs to them.

The defense ministry of Taiwan said that they are always practicing to get better at fighting. They believe that if there is peace between Taiwan and China, it will help keep the Indo-Pacific region stable and successful.

The Communist military keeps bothering other militaries, which could make tensions rise and make the region less secure. We ask the Beijing authorities to do their duty and stop this harmful action right away.

In October 2021, there was a new record of Chinese warplanes entering Taiwan’s ADIZ within a 24-hour period. On that day, 56 planes crossed into Taiwan’s airspace.

  • Japan claims one in ten citizens are 80 years of age or older as the country gets older

Japan claims one in ten citizens are 80 years of age or older as the country gets older

Over 10% of Japan’s population is now 80 years old or older, according to the government’s announcement on Monday. This is a concerning milestone in Japan’s growing older population issue.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications released numbers showing that a large percentage of people in Japan are elderly, specifically those who are 65 years old or older. This group makes up 29. 1% of the population, which is the highest percentage compared to any other country.

The government shared the information to celebrate Respect for the Aged Day, a special day off for everyone in the country. The government is worried about the low number of babies being born and the decreasing number of people working, which could affect the money available for retirement benefits and medical care as more elderly people need these services.

The number of people in Japan has been decreasing steadily since the country’s economic boom in the 1980s. The fertility rate, which measures how many babies are born per woman, is 1. 3This number is much lower than the 2. 1 rate needed to keep the population stable without any new people coming in from other countries. For over ten years, more people have been dying than being born in Japan. This is becoming a big problem for the leaders of Japan, which has the third-largest economy in the world.

The country also has many people who live a long time, which has led to a growing number of older people.

To deal with a lack of workers and help boost the economy, the Japanese government has been urging more older people and mothers who stay at home to start working again in the last ten years.

To a certain degree, that communication has been successful: there are currently a large number of older workers in Japan, totaling 9. 12This number has increased for 19 years in a row. The internal affairs ministry said on Monday that workers who are 65 years old and above now represent more than 13% of all the people working in the country.

Japan has a lot of elderly people who are working compared to other countries.

However, even if we encourage older workers, it is not sufficient to address the problems caused by the demographic crisis. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida warned in January that Japan is in danger of losing its ability to sustain social functions.

He said that helping parents raise children was the government’s most important plan, and we need to fix the problem right away.

China, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan are having the same problem. They are finding it difficult to convince young people to have more children because the cost of living is going up and people are not happy with how things are.

Examine teachers on their expertise for licensure exams: Principal appeals to NTC

The principal of Agogo Presbyterian Women’s College in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Rev. Grace Sintim Adasi has fervently pleaded with the National Teaching Council (NTC) operators overseeing the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination to reevaluate the subjects covered in the required licensure examination for teachers.

According to her, the exam’s questions could have a big impact on the percentage of test takers who pass as well as the test’s overall efficacy.

Concerned about the fact that only about 200 of the 7,000 teachers who took the licencing exam this year were successful, Dr. Sintim Adasi made this appeal.

This situation has caused some people to question the calibre of teachers that universities and colleges of education are producing.

Dr. Rev. Grace Sintim Adasi made a case for her position while making an appearance on Joy News’ PM Express Personality Profile programme on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

“I’m a student of African Studies with a specialisation in religion and women. However, as part of the licensure examination, I’m examined in Mathematics. How do you expect me to pass such an examination when it’s not within my area of expertise?” she quizzed.

The Agogo Presbyterian Women’s College principal emphasised that testing students on subjects outside their specialisation posed a significant challenge to the sustenance of the examination.

Dr. Adasi questioned whether the test should be more specific to the student’s areas of expertise or more general.

She was adamant that the NTC rethink the exam’s subject matter, pointing out that these students had diligently studied their subjects and areas of specialisation during their time in the colleges and universities.

She made it clear that these were intelligent students who had received rigorous academic training in colleges and universities, not dumb ones.

Dr. Rev. Grace Sintim Adasi urged the NTC to reconsider the licensure exam’s subject matter and make sure that it more closely reflects the focus of the candidates’ educational backgrounds and areas of specialisation.

She additionally exhorted the applicants to adequately prepare for the exams, which were a requirement for employment with the Ministry of Education.

5 illegal miners sentenced to 125 years for mining in River Ankobra

Five illegal miners locally known as “galamseyers” who were discovered working in the river Ankobra without permission have received a combined sentence of 125 years of hard labour.

The charges of conspiring to commit crime and engaging in small-scale mining without authorization were brought against Richard Kumasi, Fiamahe Jerry John, Korblavi Kumasi, Daniel Afenu, and Matthew Gedie. All five defendants entered a not guilty plea.

All five of the defendants were found guilty of the charges brought against them after a trial by the Hathia Ama Manu-presiding court.

Each of them received a five-year prison sentence on count one, and on count two, they each received a fine of GH120,000 or, in default, a five-year prison sentence plus 20 years of hard labour. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The complainant is Nana Yaw Baako, an Assemblyman from the Himan Electoral Area, according to Kingsley Agyekum, the assistant state attorney in charge of the prosecution in the Western Region. The accused are illegal miners who live in the Ankobra neighbourhood of the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality.

The complainant and five opinion leaders had knowledge that the accused were using a dredge machine to prospect for gold in the Ankobra river on August 17, 2021, around 3:00 p.m.

Based on the tip-off, they travelled to the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality’s Kpoviadzi village, where they encountered the five people who were employed.

According to Mr. Agyekum, they were all detained and turned over to Prestea police to aid in the investigation while the dredge machine was set ablaze.

As requested by their attorney, Augustine Arvoh-Mensah, the five defendants were granted bail prior to the trial.

Misuse of public funds has left Ghana’s education system in chaos – Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the 2020 NDC running mate for former president John Dramani Mahama, claimed that the Ghanaian educational system, particularly the Senior High School (SHS), is currently in disarray.

She stated that this was caused by officials misusing public funds intended for the provision of infrastructure, textbooks, computers, science labs, and educational materials.

In addition to the misappropriation of public funds, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, a former minister of education, claimed that the shift system had made matters worse for parents and students and had a detrimental effect on the educational system.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang made the disclosure at the Speech and Prize Giving Day of the John Dramani Mahama Basic School at Mamprobi, Accra, where she represented former President who could not honour the invitation due to unforeseen circumstances.

The event was to recognise learners and teachers who did well to impact positively on the school.

Other dignitaries at the ceremony included Hon. Okoe Vanderpuiye, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, and Mrs Monica Ansaba, Director of Education of the Ablekuma Central Education Directorate.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang gave the school a donation of GH¢10,000 on behalf of former President Mahama.

Speaking on the topic of “Holistic Education, The Role of Stakeholders,” the former first female vice chancellor of the University of Cape Coast expressed regret that the current situation in the nation was the opposite, given the potential for state resources to significantly contribute to the improvement in educational quality.

She claimed that former President John Mahama strategically emphasised technical and vocational education to help improve the quality of education and encouraged students to enrol in such programmes that would benefit their future.

Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang praised teachers for their dedication to imparting knowledge and shaping the nation’s future leaders, as well as their capacity to “influence human behaviour and lives.”

Bennet Kwame Azaglo, the headteacher of the John Dramani Mahama Basic School, praised the parents and students for their cooperation and academic achievements. He also made a plea to the educational authorities to provide the school with a computer lab and other learning aids.

Bamboi-Wa Highway sees road diversion following heavy rainfall

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has advised drivers heading south from Wa and the area to exit at Sawla and the Fufulso road in order to connect to the N10 Techiman-Kintampo Road.

In a statement released, GHA cautioned drivers traveling from the south to Wa are advised to take the Techiman-Kintampo Road exit at the Fufulso junction before continuing on the Fufulso-Sawla Road to Sawla and then to Wa and beyond.

This comes after the bridge connecting the communities of Bole and Doli was destroyed, rendering it impassable to both vehicles and people.

GHA described the incident as regrettable and claimed that a broken dam by the side of the road was to blame for the destruction.

The Authority has guaranteed that its technical team and engineers are diligently addressing the situation as soon as is reasonably possible.

Ada canoe disaster: Search for 2 missing fishermen suspended; body found in Anloga

The search for two missing fishermen from last Thursday’s canoe accident in Ada has been put on hold.

17 of the 19 fishermen involved in the accident have been located, with 15 still alive and two deceased.

Meanwhile, there are still two of them missing.

The search for the two missing fishermen was put to an end by the Ghana Navy and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) on Saturday night.

Strong waves on Thursday caused two fishing canoes near the estuary at Azizanya in Ada to capsize, leaving the fishermen missing.

Three days after the canoes capsized, the search and rescue operation announced the conclusion of its operations on Saturday night.

On Saturday morning, a second body was discovered. Due to its deteriorating condition, the body was given to the family in Ada for immediate burial after being discovered at Anloga in the Volta region.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, [Sept. 16, 2023], Ada East NADMO Public Relations Officer Ebenezer Dan-Doe said the team had decided to end the search after three consecutive days of searching.

However, he urged the coastal communities to be vigilant and notify the security services if they spot anything.

In order to prevent disasters on the area’s water bodies, Mr. Dan-Doe also suggested that fishermen and locals prioritise wearing life jackets, especially if they live close to water bodies.

She visited the market on a Sunday afternoon to offer consolation to local residents and business owners and to assess the extent of the fire’s damage.

Several stores were destroyed by the fire, which broke out around 5 a.m. on Sunday.

But the root of the problem is still unknown.

In an interview with Citi TV in Accra, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings said it was a huge loss given the current economic difficulties. She also thanked God that no lives were lost or injuries were reported.

The MP promised to help the devastated traders get back on their feet when speaking to them.

“I am very saddened by this incident. It is devastating to see so many businesses destroyed. I want to assure the affected traders that I will do everything I can to help them get back on their feet,” she assured.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings meanwhile urged the government to swiftly implement aid programmes that will protect traders during such incidents.

Nigerian musician Teniola Apata, better known as Teni, has revealed that her father, Simeon Apata, a retired brigadier-general in the Nigerian army, was killed in front of her and her family.

On January 8, 1995, gunmen assassinated the late Brig. Gen. Apata (rtd.) in Lagos.

Teni claimed that the incident took place in their living room when she was only two years old.

She admitted that the incident’s trauma had an impact on her life.

The singer of Uyo Meyo made this statement while appearing as a guest on the most recent episode of the podcast Tea With Tay, which is hosted by actor Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh, aka Taymesan.

She said, “My father was a disciplinarian. He was a soldier and he owned a school; Apata Memorial High School. He was also a big philanthropist.

“Growing up with my father passing at such a young age, the trauma of losing my father at a young age affected me. You know, him being assassinated in the presence of all of us and all that stuff. I was 2 at the time.

“Him passing away robbed me as a child of having a father figure. It sort of made me have trust issues growing up. Because they [gunmen] came into our house purposely to kill him.”

Voter registration: EC is hindering people from registering – Kofi Bentil claims

Lawyer and Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa, Kofi Bentil has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of disfranchising many Ghanaians in the ongoing voter registration

He asserts that the EC has the resources and is required by the Constitution to expand and carry out particular programmes.

The Electoral Commissioners’ positions could be terminated if there is any deviation from this constitutional mandate, according to Mr. Bentil.

Mr. Bentil explained on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday that the problem is not just about ignoring obligations but also about actively preventing people from registering.

“In omission and commission, it’s not a matter of just omitting, like they are not doing anything, the suggestion is that there will be problems with people exercising their rights to register.”

In his opinion, the EC should proactively implement measures to improve voter registration in order to overcome obstacles.

“The EC was set up to take away those problems, clear the way and create situations that will enable people to register. So they should actually do things, commit actions that will expand registration,” he said.

Mr Bentil maintained that “in this case, if you are not doing it at all, then you are omitting to do your job but as far as I’m concerned, they are actually taking steps, committing actions to stop people from registering which is directly against what they are to do.”

He denounced the use of state resources to undermine public policy objectives, saying “We should all be minded when we do some of these things.”

He asserted that positions within the police force were being sold, an activity he characterized as a clandestine operation. Despite the secrecy surrounding this issue, Ken Agyapong chose to expose it, citing the distress it was causing to crucial grassroots members, including the polling station executives.

“You are a delegate, they’ve asked us to be mute but I will speak, because if your child is going to look for a job and you can be asked to bring 10,000 cedis before your child would be recruited into the police.

“These same people are coming to you seeking your votes, so that your children remain jobless,” Agyapong jabbed without addressing the specific persons he was referring to as “they.”

He continued by praising his own track record in the area of job creation and stating that he stood out from the other NPP flagbearer candidates with whom he would be competing to lead the party into the 2024 elections.

The NPP lost the 2024 election, according to Agyapong, who made the claim earlier in his speech at the Accra SHOW DOWN WALK, citing the depreciation of the cedi and the impact of the Domestic Debt Exchange programme, which destroyed middle-class and pensioner savings.

“We lost the 2024 elections in 2022. At the time the Ghana cedi destroyed the hard work of many businessmen, all the way to the tomato seller. Ghanaians will never forget that.

“The time the middle class went to court because their monies were lost, and the time the pensioners had their monies gone, Ghanaians will remember that,” he stated.

Assuring the people, he said he was a member of the NPP who always looked out for the masses.

The New Patriotic Party is currently preparing to choose the party’s official flagbearer to run for president in the December 2024 general elections.

In addition to Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former Mampong MP Francis Addai Nimo are running.

On November 4, the NPP is anticipated to hold its national delegates conference to choose its flagbearer for the general elections of 2024.

I challenge Mahama to swap Naana Jane with Julius Debrah -Anyidoho

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has challenged the party’s 2024 presidential flagbearer John Mahama, to substitute his running mate from the 2020 elections.

Anyidoho, in a series of Twitter posts, enters the NDC running mate discussion, specifically addressing former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah’s reported aspiration for the position.

The former presidential spokesperson maintains that the NDC should keep Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate.

“Since the NDC led by John Mahama, has decided to become a key soap concert party, with the likes of Julius Debrah organizing senseless walks to canvass for support to become running mate, I am removing my gloves & hit very hard at the jaws of the Flagbearer. Complete nonsense!

“I am making an open declaration; let John Mahama dare drop Jane Naana Agyemang and choose Julius Debrah as his running mate and he will stay in opposition for 1 million years,” two of his posts on the matter read.

Anyidoho launched a direct attack at Mahama, whom he had previously criticised and claimed would never run for president again, saying: “If John Mahama thinks he will be left alone to destroy the NDC as he wishes, he is joking! He will destroy himself!!!”

  • Pros and cons of getting married at a young age

Pros and cons of getting married at a young age

Marrying early, like any life decision, comes with its own set of benefits and downsides. It’s important to consider both sides before making such a significant choice.

    Benefits of Marrying Early:

    1. Growing Together: Marrying early allows couples to grow, learn, and navigate life’s challenges together from a young age. This shared experience can foster a strong bond and emotional connection.
    2. Youthful Energy: Young couples often have higher energy levels and can enjoy a more active lifestyle together. They might also be more adaptable to changes and challenges.
    3. Family Planning: Marrying early can provide more time for couples to start a family and have children if they desire. Biological factors might play a role in fertility.
    4. Shared Goals: Couples who marry early can work together to set and achieve their life goals, such as building a home, advancing careers, and pursuing education.
    5. Financial Growth: Early marriages can encourage financial stability and growth together, as couples can combine their resources and make joint financial decisions from an earlier stage.

    Downsides of Marrying Early:

    1. Lack of Maturity: Couples who marry early might not have fully developed their individual identities and life goals, which can lead to challenges in maintaining a healthy relationship.
    2. Limited Life Experience: Early marriage might mean missing out on personal growth opportunities and experiences that could contribute to individual development.
    3. Financial Strain: Young couples may not have stable financial situations, which can lead to stress and challenges related to supporting themselves and potentially starting a family.
    4. Educational and Career Goals: Early marriage might require individuals to put their educational and career aspirations on hold, potentially impacting future opportunities.
    5. Social Pressure: Society’s expectations and pressure to conform to traditional norms of marriage might influence the decision to marry early, leading to rushed choices.
    6. Higher Divorce Rates: Studies suggest that marriages entered into at a younger age tend to have higher divorce rates, possibly due to the challenges of personal growth and evolving priorities.

Ultimately, the decision to marry early or later depends on individual circumstances, values, and goals. It’s crucial to communicate openly with your partner, seek advice from trusted mentors or professionals, and carefully consider the implications of your decision. Every relationship is unique, and what works for one couple might not work for another.

Police to likely exhume Mohbad’s body for investigation

The possibility of exhuming Mohbad’s body for investigations has been established by Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police command’s public relations officer.

On Thursday, September 14, the PPRO made this announcement during a live Instagram session with media figure Daddy Freeze.

The Force PRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Thursday that the police would conduct a thorough investigation into the singer’s death.

Hundeyin explained in further detail saying: “The Force PRO issued a statement this evening (Thursday) saying that investigation will commence and that’s what we’re going to do. If need be, the body will be exhumed. It’s not too late. The body can be exhumed and an autopsy can be performed.

“The statement also states that people should bring whatever information they have to the commissioner of police in Lagos State. That’s because we don’t want to do hierarchy anymore. Take it to Force CID, and bring it to Lagos Command. It doesn’t matter. We’re going to harmonize it within ourselves and ensure that justice is done.”

At the age of 27, Mohbad tragically passed away on Tuesday, September 12.

Although the artist’s death’s exact cause is unknown, it has been suggested that, among other things, ear infections and hypertension were to blame.

The singer had received an injection from an assistant nurse, which had led to his untimely demise, according to information provided by Mohbad’s father.

Warro reveals that poor artiste management kills artists

Artiste manager, Warro has emphasized that ineffective talent management hinders Ghana’s entertainment industry growth.

He asserts that management involves strategy, planning, and diligence, but many unqualified individuals pose as managers.

“Too many artistes in the country are content to rely on friends and personal assistants as their managers to the detriment of their careers,” he stated.

Warro, who represents Kiki Marley, has noticed that some manager-of-artists in the nation refuse to be honest with their clients and instead try to pacify them with empty promises.

He made the point that one of the reasons why only a few artists succeed while many vanish after a brief stint in the spotlight is due to the systems and lack of fundamental structures in Ghana’s creative arts industry.

“Artistes here are fighting an uphill battle due to lack of fundamental structures in the industry. We are in a country where artistes do not get royalties.

“For the musicians, there’s no way to monitor when and where their music is played and certain governing bodies are also not living up to expectation. However, there is still hope that things will change for the industry to thrive,” Warro stated.

“Mohbad is my brother and I liked him so much” – Sam Larry speaks

The music promoter Sam Larry claims he is unaware of Mohbad, the rising singer, passing away.

Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, died on Tuesday and was buried on Wednesday. He was 27 years old.

Shortly after his passing, an old video that depicted the singer being ejected from a music video shoot with the rapper Zlatan surfaced on social media.

Sam Larry and a few other men can be seen showing up at the location of the shoot to demand that Mohbad be removed.

It took Zlatan’s intervention to prevent Larry from striking Mohbad with what appeared to be a stick.

On Thursday, a copy of the petition the late singer filed against Larry alleging a threat to his life and property damage appeared online.

In the petition, dated June 27, 2023, Mohbad claimed that around fifteen people “invaded the premises with dangerous arms like guns and cutlasses, led by Sam Larry Elegushi.”

However, in a video on Friday, Larry said he “loves Mohbad so much” and “I cannot kill him.”

In the footage, the music promoter said the videos circulating on social media happened in the past.

Larry said in the case of any disagreement between himself and Mohbad, he still would not wish for the singer’s death.

“Mohbad is my brother and I liked him so much. Even when he was signed to Marlian Records, he knew that I had love for him,” he said in Yoruba language.

“His wife and everyone knows that I have love for Mohbad. Every time I travel, whether to Kenya or Dubai, I usually tell Mohbad to come with me.

“And that I will pay Marlian Records so that we can have our shows. So even if we had any misunderstandings, I still would not wish him dead.

“I cannot kill Mohbad. I love him so much and God sees my heart. I know nothing about the death of Mohbad.

I dreamt about my son’s death before he died- Mohbad’s dad

A viral interview featuring Mohbad’s grieving father discussing his son’s passing has sparked online reactions.

In the trending interview, Mr. Aloba disclosed that he had spent time with his son just days before his death. He mentioned that Mohbad had provided him with food and money during his last visit to his home.

Mohbad’s father also made a startling revelation about foreseeing his son’s death before it occurred. Throughout the interview, he did not detect any signs of illness in his son. However, he did mention that Mohbad had sustained an injury that was treated by an auxiliary nurse.

“I dreamt of him being shot” – Mohbad’s father

Following his last visit to his son’s house, Mohbad’s father admitted that he did not observe any signs of illness in him. However, he later recounted a troubling experience.

Mr. Aloba revealed that he had a dream two days before his son’s passing, in which he witnessed someone getting shot. Initially, he believed the nightmare was about himself, not his son.

The singer’s father also disclosed the name he calls his son, not the well-known stage name. He named his son Oladimeji because he was his firstborn and second offspring.

Mr. Aloba mentioned that he is his parents’ only child, which is why he chose to name Mohbad Oladimeji.

Amerado details reason for venturing into music

Ghanaian rapper and songwriter, Amerado, has revealed the reason he started his music career.

He said that, in contrast to other musicians, he performed music to help his family get through difficult times.

He said, in an interview with Akua Sika on Happy 98.9FM’s Happy Evening Drive, “The foundation of my music was about my family. From the beginning I was my mother’s hope. I didn’t do music because I wanted to be famous. I did it for survival. That was my only way because there was no one coming to help me or my family”.

He claims that while he was growing up, he saw people make fun of and treat his mother with contempt because she did not have money.

He continued by saying that because of his past struggles, he is constantly humbled whenever people praise him and his music.

“My mother slept hungry on some days and what drives me crazy sometimes is that I have some cult following and these people never left my back irrespective of what happened. Aside my family (blood), the army lions as I call them and my fan base have always pulled through for me. I don’t care the number whether five or six but, they’re always there and I appreciate them because they’re part of my journey and where I am today,” he emphasized.

The sensational rapper and singer mentioned that these are some of the reasons he can’t let himself down.

“So no matter how many times I fall, I’ll always rise. I’ve also realized that sometimes you don’t need a helper to lift you, you need yourself to rise,” he added.

  • Over 47,000 petition ban on Marlian Music after MohBad’s death

Over 47,000 petition ban on Marlian Music after MohBad’s death

A petition titled “Ban Marlian Music” has reportedly garnered over 47,000 signatures from fans of the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Imole, known as Mohbad, who seek the prohibition of Marlian music.

The campaigners accuse Marlian Records, owned by Nigerian artiste Naira Marley, of disguising itself as a record label while operating as a drug syndicate.

Following Mohbad’s sudden death, controversies surrounding the circumstances have arisen, implicating figures like Naira Marley and Sam Larry.

A video depicting Sam Larry and others harassing Mohbad on a music set led to widespread outrage, with many Nigerians criticizing them on social media.

In an apparent quest for justice for the deceased singer, the petition campaigners claim that Marlian Records recruits young boys for drug peddling and related activities, citing Mohbad’s case as an example of the tragic consequences.

“The perpetrators of the acts include Sam Larry And Naira Marley as evidence are being opened up to the public about how he was beaten, trailed as well as killed by these men – Sam Larry And Naira Marley.

“Survived by a wife and a child just a little below 24 months of age.”

They said Mohbad, had petitioned Larry, Elebe, and others months before his death in respect to threat to his life, malicious damage of property, and oppression, among others. But the police didn’t do anything about the situation because they claimed he failed to show up when invited.

The campaigners who called for a thorough investigation into the matter further noted, “The Nigerian Police Force received this petition in June 2023; they refused to act, claiming he didn’t show up when he was invited to defend his petition against his adversaries – Sam Larry and others after months of waiting.

“Sam Larry was said to have filed a counter-petition against Mohbad.”

“It’s possible he was prevented from doing so or silenced by Sam Larry and others.

“The citizens are left with dashed hopes towards the capabilities of the Nigerian police force as they have failed to uphold to their utmost responsibility “protection of lives and property of citizens “; an instance could be seen in the case of Nnnamdi Emeh who was arrested and detained for being a whistleblower as well as.

“Exposing the undercover activities of the Anambra police in respect to harvest and trade of human organs, detaining innocent citizens etc. The alleged culprits, Princess, as well as Csp Patrick, are said to be walking freely today, whilst the whistleblower Nnamdi Emeh is still detained/barely heard from.

“We call on the Government as a whole to intervene on all these matters.

“The citizens, fans both in Nigeria and in diaspora demand for Justice to be met!.. Investigations should be carried out thoroughly on the Marlian Music Brand, not leaving behind all evidence being provided to the public.”

Remember that after his passing, a petition purportedly written by the late singer and dated June 27, 2023 surfaced, in which he alleged that he had received numerous threats against his life from Samson Balogun, aka Sam Larry, a controversial socialite.

The petition was sent to the Nigeria Police Force’s Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“It is not fair to compare the Ghanaian industry to the Nigerian industry” – DJ Vyrusky

Award-winning Ghanaian DJ, DJ Vyrusky, has emphasized that comparing the Ghanaian music industry to Nigeria’s isn’t equitable, primarily due to differences in financial investment.

He argued that Nigeria’s music industry surpasses Ghana’s due to substantial financial backing dedicated to song promotion and marketing.

The experienced DJ attributed Ghana’s preference for foreign songs over domestic ones to a lack of appreciation.

In an interview with TV3, DJ Vyrusky contended that the insufficient investment in Ghanaian music has hindered its growth compared to other nations.

“It is actually not fair to compare the Ghanaian industry to the Nigerian industry. The truth that everybody is running away from is money,” he stated.

“The Nigerians are where they are because of money. They have the backing to push a song. I can say this because I am in the camp. Kidi’s ‘Touch It’ song was global. I mean it is a nice and big song because Kidi did amazing. It went viral because there was a budget to push the song. But some artistes find it difficult to promote their songs on the radio. Because they don’t have the budget to maybe give the DJs something to play the song.”

Additionally, DJ Vyrusky revealed the enormous sums of money some Nigerian musicians spend promoting their music, whereas in Ghana, the situation is different.

“You want to compare this industry to an industry where Davido sat on Igbo’s interview and said he spent close to $ 3 million on his album, how do you want to compete?

Do you understand, so it is like they are not being fair to that little Ghanaian artiste who is coming up, trying to push his stuff,” he added.

DJ Vyrusky lamented the lack of support and promotion for local artists among Ghanaians, who preferred foreign music to homegrown songs.

He thinks it is one of the factors that has contributed to the decline of Ghana’s music industry over time.

“I think it is something with ‘Ghanaians.’ I beg you people don’t come and kill me. From childhood, we always tend to appreciate things that are foreign. When we were kids, some parents used to hide the nice bowls from foreigners. And so it is part of us. Whatever comes from outside we [Ghanaians] appreciate it more than what we have here,” said DJ Vyrusky.

It may be recalled that the lawmaker and former minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection came under fire after taking a 9-month hiatus from all official duties, including those of the legislature and the government.

Blakk Rasta, however, was not fazed by the apology. On his show on Accra-based 3FM. He described her as a “shameless politrickian” who insulted the nation without offering apologies. Adding that she was only apologising due to the upcoming elections.

“Adwoa Safo is one of the most shameless politrickians you can think of in this country. When she was on a spree of insulting this nation and insulting the good people of this country, she arrogantly did it and was not even ready to apologise to anybody. Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has detailed the series of events that strained his relationship with the controversial socialite Abena Korkor Addo.

According to Gyan, the rift began when he declined to provide Abena Korkor with a ride in his car after an event they both attended. This refusal contributed to her unfavorable perception of him and her subsequent public criticisms.

Gyan revealed that Abena Korkor had made romantic advances toward him, which he chose not to reciprocate. He interpreted her actions as attempts to initiate a romantic relationship, prompting him to distance himself from her.

Gyan believes that his decision to distance himself from Abena Korkor is what ultimately led to her animosity toward him and her efforts to tarnish his reputation.

Gyan emphasized, “If she tries to flirt with you and you don’t mind her if she asks for a ride in your car and you deny her, that is when she goes around speaking ill of you and attempting to harm your image.”

He expressed frustration at the situation, stating, “This person, I was trying to bring her closer to me, but I realized where things were going… If you come and flirt, and your advances are not reciprocated, you start telling people that somebody has been intimate with you. Do you think I’m so easy to win over? If you want, you can bring eggs and schnapps to perform curses.”

The nurse also recalled that she and her coworkers were present at the hospital when Mohbad was hastily brought in, and the singer was exhibiting symptoms of severe discomfort, including trembling a lot.

According to her, they initially tested positive for malaria and started administering a variety of therapies, including injections, in an effort to treat his condition. Sadly, they had no idea that magical forces were at work right now.

The nurse, who allegedly knew the deceased musician well, revealed that Mohbad was attempting to break up a fight when his alleged attacker cunningly took advantage of the situation to cast the juju spell on him.

UK-based Ghanaian musician Reggie Zippy has pleaded for understanding amid divorce allegations.

Reggie has been portrayed as the antagonist in his divorce story, with various allegations made by his ex-wife, Edith Ward, including infidelity, lies, alcohol, and financial abuse.

Reggie emphasizes that he’s faced significant challenges, particularly regarding the custody of his children, due to a restraining order that has prevented him from seeing them.

He asks that people withhold judgment as he navigates this difficult situation.

“You want to judge me? That’s alright but wait until you trying to contact your own children you’ve raised for 15 years and more lands you in police custody and any future attempts to contact them whether directly or indirectly could lead to your arrest and imprisonment. I am an innocent good father on bail without any criminal charges, DO YOU KNOW HOW THAT FEELS?

Autopsy reveals unnatural death of deceased in Ho police custody

The autopsy results of Felix Kuma Azibodzi, a 29-year-old private security guard who died while being held by the police in Ho in the Agotime-Ziope District of the Volta region, revealed that his death was not natural.

The autopsy was performed on August 30 of this year, and Dr. Foster Gbagbo, a pathologist, wrote the report. The autopsy was observed by a police pathologist and other actors, and it revealed a blunt force injury to the chest as well as a haemothorax, fractured left rib, and deflated contusion of the chest.

The report has given the Azibodzi family a reprieve so they can apply for a death certificate for the deceased’s burial. The deceased was brutalised by police while in custody after being detained on suspicion of car theft on August 9, which turned out to be false, according to the report.

The family is requesting a thorough independent investigation into their compatriot’s passing because they “believed he was tortured and manhandled in Police custody,” according to their petition to the authorities.

The family is hereby petitioning President Akufo-Addo, Ambrose Dery, the Minister of Interior, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney-General to cause investigations into how the deceased died at the regional Command in Ho.

The family spokesperson, Michael Azibodzi told the Ghana News Agency that the deceased was allegedly arrested at the Ho main lorry station by the Police in relation to a suspected car stealing case on Wednesday, August 9, this year.

He said the deceased’s arrest stemmed from a post of the said missing car on his social media handles, which the spokesperson alleged was shared by his work colleagues to aid arrest of the actual culprit, but this action was misunderstood.

According to Azibodzi, on Friday, August 11, a team of police officers led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Andrew Boadu Ekumah, Volta Regional Police Commander, flanked by his Regional Crime Officer and others, came to the family with the news that the deceased had passed away after complaining of being unwell while in custody but before being transported to the Ho Teaching Hospital for treatment.

They were upset by the sad news, he claimed, but since they had been invited to the mortuary on Monday, August 14, they were not as worried because they thought the case should involve a lost identity.

Azibodzi told the GNA that the body was in a filthy state when he arrived at the mortuary with a lawyer by his side.

The spokesperson continued, “The body showed visible back wounds with blood oozing from the mouth and nose, a broken arm, a punched eye, broken teeth, swollen face, and broken legs.”

According to him, the autopsy report confirms that these were clearly cases of abuse, torture, excessive force, and wickedness with the intent to kill.

He claimed that the family had resisted police attempts to transport the deceased person’s body to the Police Hospital in Accra for an autopsy because they preferred a different route to prevent cover-ups.

“We the family of the deceased hereby appeal to the powers that be to assist the Azibodzi family to attain justice in this heinous, barbaric and calculated murder in cold blood by the Ho Police.”

The family’s attorney, Rev. Raymond Akpatsa, questioned why the Police are still using such outdated methods in the twenty-first century to elicit information from suspects.

According to a GNA investigation, the deceased was “Brought in Dead” on August 10 and was declared dead by Dr. Emmanuel Kasu, the Ho Teaching Hospital’s director of medical services.

Major regional players, such as Chiefs, Queens, Religious leaders, and security-related NGOs, have criticised recent police brutality in the Gbi-Godenu and Gbi-Wegbe incidents, which have resulted in deaths and injuries in the past eight months.

Forestry Commission confiscates 21 vehicles carrying illicit timber in Bono Region

The Bono Regional Forestry Commission (FC) has seized 21 vehicles transporting illegal lumber from various forest reserves in the region.

This operation, ongoing for a month, led to the apprehension of different vehicles on various routes and occasions.

The confiscated lumber includes Ceiba, ‘Kyenkyen’ (Antiaris toxicaria), ‘Essia,’ ‘Ofram,’ ‘Wawa,’ ‘Mansonia,’ ‘Odum,’ and other tree species.

During a media briefing in Sunyani, Augustine Gyedu, the Bono Regional FC Manager, revealed that out of the 21 impounded vehicles, 11 lacked documentation for the lumber they were transporting.

The remaining vehicles, with proper documentation, either contained multiple species of lumber not specified in the documents or had a smaller quantity of lumber than stated in their documentation.

Gyedu explained that the Commission had obtained a court order to seize the illegally transported lumber without proper documentation. He also mentioned that vehicles with documentation but carrying excess or different species of lumber not specified would also face confiscation.

He mentioned that some of the seized lumber would be allocated to the Regional Coordinating Council for making school furniture. Another portion would be given to the Regional Sports Authority to upgrade the football stands at the Sunyani Coronation Park. The remaining lumber would be sold to the public.

Regarding penalties, Mr. Gyedu stated that the apprehended vehicles would face fines ranging from GhC1,500.00 to GhC10,000.00, depending on their size and type.

He appealed to individuals involved in illegal lumbering and the general public to cease such activities, emphasizing that anyone found guilty would be prosecuted in a competent court of law.

Gyedu encouraged individuals and companies interested in purchasing the confiscated lumber to submit their applications for evaluation, with the assurance that applications meeting the supply criteria would be considered.

CenPOA advocates for policy regarding secret audio recordings

A fellow at the Center for Public Opinion and Awareness (CenPOA), Lamal Alhassan, has highlighted the significant threat posed to our society by the unauthorized release of secret audio recordings

He suggests that Parliament should prioritize this issue and address it promptly.

He argues that easy access to recording private conversations and violating individuals’ privacy could erode trust and impact governance negatively.

His remarks stem from the recent leaked tape related to an alleged plot against the Inspector General of Police, which has sparked controversy.

He criticizes the Ghana Police Service for its unprofessional conduct regarding the leaked tape and emphasizes the importance of adhering to ethics, regulations, and standards to protect the service’s reputation and serve the public.

“But when these things happen, it affects the image of the organisation, and for an institution like the Police Service, when public trust is eroded, it is problematic for general policing and security. The only thing that makes the police effective is public cooperation, and when there is a lack of trust, the police will no longer be efficient.”

Alhassan, maintained that “what has happened could cause mistrust and division within the ranks of the police.

”It will affect unity. There are legal ramifications; if those implicated are culpable, they could be prosecuted. These are senior police officers who have served their country, and this should not have occurred”.

Airbus Scandal: Ernest Owusu Bempah petitions OSP

Ernest Owusu Bempah, the Deputy Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has submitted a petition to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) regarding the Airbus Scandal.

In his letter, he urged the OSP to prioritize the matter and help Ghanaians put it to rest. He emphasized that Airbus SE’s admission of paying nearly $4 billion to resolve foreign bribery and other charges with authorities in the United States, Britain, and France, along with the OSP’s own interest in the matter, necessitates urgent attention.

He wrote“… It’s been over a year and the public is still in the dark as to where you’re with the investigations. Whereas I do not doubt the competence of your office to get to the bottom of this massive international corruption, I respectfully submit and appeal to your good office to take immediate action in helping the people of Ghana to put this matter behind us,”.

Ernest Owusu Bempah labeled the scandal, potentially involving former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama (rumored as Government Official 1), as Ghana’s most significant corruption case to date.

“The Airbus corruption is the biggest corruption case ever. Indeed, payment of bribes were made and received, and the biggest beneficiary as alleged was former President John Mahama, codenamed as Government Official 1 in the US Court documents,” he added.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo referenced the Airbus Scandal during his speech at the 2023 Ghana Bar Conference in Cape Coast. In response to John Dramani Mahama’s allegation that he appointed politically-affiliated individuals to the judiciary, Akufo-Addo invoked the Airbus Scandal to counter his predecessor’s claims.

“Not only are these concepts of ‘NPP’ and ‘NDC’ judges new in our public discourse, but they are also extremely dangerous, and represent the most brazen attack on the independence of the judiciary by any allegedly responsible politician of the 4th Republic.

“They provide another reason, if more were needed, why right-thinking citizens should ensure the defeat in 2024 of the man whom the first Special Prosecutor identified as Government Official No.1, in the still unresolved Airbus Bribery Scandal,” he said.

    Attention:

    Kissi Agyebeng

    The Special Prosecutor

    Haile Gabrielle Selasse Ave Ridge-Accra

PETITION: Request For Action On The Airbus Corruption

    Please accept my compliment.

I write to you to officially call for urgent action on the Airbus SE corruption.

As you are aware Airbus SE has admitted to paying nearly $4 billion to resolve foreign bribery and other charges with authorities in the United States, Britain and France.

The aircraft maker has also admitted using intermediaries over several years to bribe government officials and airline executives in order to win lucrative contracts the world over including Ghana.

Again, the company admitted hiring the brother of a top elected Ghanaian official as its consultant in the sale of the aircraft. Also, Airbus confessed paying the said consultant through a third party when its Compliance Unit raised red flags about the close relationship between the consultant and the top elected official who was a key decision maker in the purchase of the military aircraft.

And rightly so, your good office has signalled its intention to delve into the matter.

It’s been over a year and the public is still in the dark as to where you’re with the investigations.

Whereas I do not doubt the competence of your office to get to the bottom of this massive international corruption, I respectfully submit and appeal to your good office to take immediate action in helping the people of Ghana to put this matter behind us.

The Airbus corruption is the biggest corruption case ever. Indeed, payment of bribes were made and received, and the biggest beneficiary as alleged was former President John Mahama, codenamed as GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL 1 in the US Court documents.

Again, documents were falsified in making the payments to disguise the payment of bribes to GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL 1.

GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL 1 is on the record of the Court as the recipient of the corrupt proceeds from this transaction.

Paragraph 136 of the US Court documents actually described Government official I as having a reputation for bribe taking.

    It reads:

“Government Official 1” had such a reputation as a prolific bribe-collector that within three weeks of the election of the incoming Government, AND BEFORE IT WAS SWORN IN, Airbus reached agreement with brother of “Government Official 1,” described in the US version of Court documents as “Individual 1.”

Respectfully, everyone who is privy to the core details of the series of court documents published by the Department of Justice (DOJ) of the United States and the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) of the United Kingdom cannot allege ignorance of the persons who have brought our nation into this international shame.

Bearing in mind the above realities, it is most unfortunate that your good office has, for political expediency, treated Mr Mahama with kids gloves.

Like most Ghanaians, I have grown sceptical about the lip service being paid to such a huge international corruption involving our former President.

I may not be a lawyer, but I suspect if those countries can benefit in fines from Airbus for corruption which our country was the real victim, then we believe that your investigations if it yields success can create an even bigger case for Ghana to also seek compensation from Airbus for the damage caused to our national treasury.

Respectfully sir, the nonchalant attitude being deployed on this matter ought to give way to real action.

    Thank you.

    Yours sincerely,

    Ernest Kofi Owusu Bempah

    Deputy Director of Communications, NPP

  • RMD reveals why he was afraid to marry his wife

RMD reveals why he was afraid to marry his wife

Nollywood icon Richard Mofe-Damijo, or RMD, has disclosed the reason behind his initial hesitation to marry his wife, Jumobi Adegbesan.

If you were an enthusiastic AIT viewer during the late 1990s and early 2000s, you might have seen her hosting the popular show ‘Lunch Break.’

Jumobi eventually left the program to pursue other interests, one of which was starting a family with RMD.

Richard and Jumobi have been happily married for 23 years and have two children together. However, before his marriage in 2000, RMD was previously married to the late Nigerian journalist/publisher May Ellen-Ezekiel (MEE).

She passed away in 1996 due to complications from surgery.

During a recent interview with comedian Teju Babyface, the 62-year-old actor shared the unique reason why he initially hesitated to marry Jumobi.

As he recalled moments when she showed him kindness before their marriage in 2000, he said, “I was terrified to marry her because she was too nice. I told her I hope you won’t change when I marry you. She said no. I told her that if she changed, I would kill myself because she was so good. Before we married, I told her that my biggest problem was that I didn’t deserve to marry her.’’

In 2009, the actor, who was also the Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, described a specific instance when Jumobi came to his house before they were married. He was baffled by her reaction when she met some women there.

He said, “I’m like, why are you so nice? I don’t get it! Why don’t you say something? I was really afraid to marry her.”

Additionally, he revealed that when he apologised to her at his lowest point, her reaction always built more responsibility for him to slow down and cherish her more.

    Infidelity

In the interview, RMD openly discussed the challenges of maintaining faithfulness in marriage, using terms like ‘Delilah’ and ‘Jezebels’ to describe some women.

The actor acknowledged that in contemporary times, many married male celebrities become targets for young women attempting to lead them into infidelity.

He emphasized that the allure and temptations from these women can be difficult to resist, emphasizing the need for caution.

He said, “Being faithful is hard. You know, being in the line of work that we do, it’s tough because let’s face it. Every one of us that is married we are the target. “I mean, look at how women are. How can you escape it? Women are like Delilah. They are like Jezebel. They prepare.”

According to the actor, a theatre arts graduate, one can perpetuate the real intentions of the enemy if they constantly aim at the image of God or the symbol of authority in any house.

“You shoot him down. It’s like a general in the army, then the battalion scatters. Their mission is to take down the head of the house.”

    Divorce

When questioned about how a wife should handle potential romantic rivals pursuing her husband, RMD suggested that the husband needs to ensure that his wife fully comprehends the situation.

He emphasized that if the wife is unaware or not prepared, it leaves the husband vulnerable to such advances.

Regarding why some women swiftly divorce their husbands over infidelity, even if it’s a one-time occurrence, RMD explained that these marriages often end due to a lack of understanding about their respective roles in the relationship.

“It is not a competition; it’s a partnership. They are not grounded enough. They have to understand the concept of what they are involved in.”

According to him, the couple, mainly the women, should be able to protect their territories like animals.

    Escaping scandals

Celebrities are often associated with scandals, especially in their marriages and relationships. In a podcast discussion with Teju Babyface, RMD was asked how he has managed to avoid major scandals throughout his career.

RMD explained that he approaches such situations with a smile and tries to maintain a civil demeanor. He emphasized the need for caution because there are potential pitfalls that can be set for anyone in the public eye.

He said, “You tread carefully, and if you manage to tread carefully long enough, you master it. It becomes a dance, you know.”

He likened his lifestyle to the famous boxer Mohammed Ali, who was once asked how he had managed to remain a champion, and he said he started by avoiding women and clubs.

“So, I avoid the clubs as well. I go when it is essential. I’m out of town if it’s not work or I’m not entertaining people. I just enjoy my time with a close circle of friends who protect my flags. I’m sure to leave there safe no matter what happens,’’ he explained.

COP Mensah to contest Bekwai seat under NPP – Brogya Genfi alleges

Ernest Yaw Brogya Genfi, the Deputy Director for Special Duties of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), alleges that a top police officer, COP George Alex Mensah, plans to kickstart his political career with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Genfi, COP Mensah, currently under parliamentary scrutiny due to his alleged involvement in a leaked tape aimed at removing Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, has aspirations of securing a parliamentary seat.

During a panel discussion on UTV’s Adekye Nsroma on September 14, 2023, Genfi argued that Mensah’s intentions do not align with the best interests of the country.

He claimed that since the current Member of Parliament for the Bekwai constituency, Joseph Osei Owusu, known as Joe Wise, has announced he won’t be returning to the House after 2024, COP Mensah is positioning himself to run for the Bekwai seat.

Genfi stated, “COP Alex Mensah, in his pursuit to contest for the NPP in the Bekwai constituency, has already declared in parliament that he is an NPP sympathizer.”

“I am also aware, as a matter of fact, that he is going to contest in the name of the NPP for Bekwai because Joe Wise has said that he won’t run again, and he is the one behind him going to contest.”

In addition, COP Mensah’s political ambitions and affiliations might affect his actions and decisions favoring the NPP, potentially compromising the interests of the country.

    Background

On Tuesday, July 11, an audio recording, purportedly featuring a police commissioner and a politician discussing a scheme to oust IGP George Dampare from his position, surfaced in the media.

Consequently, the Minority Caucus in Parliament called for an inquiry into the covert plan mentioned in the audio.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, subsequently formed a seven-member bipartisan committee on July 25, 2023, to investigate the aforementioned audio.

The Committee comprises three members from both the Majority and Minority sides of Parliament, along with one technical expert.

Mordvichev, who was given a higher position to command the military in Central Military District and Russian Central Grouping of Forces in Ukraine, was asked how much longer the fighting will continue.

The top Russian military leader believes that the conflict in Ukraine is only the beginning of their plans to take control of other parts of Eastern Europe.
There is still a lot of time available. He said that there is no use in talking about a certain time period.

‘When we discuss Eastern Europe, which we must, it will take more time. ‘

According to a report from the Institute for the Study of War, Putin has praised Mordvichev in the past and may like him more than other military commanders.

It was said that the president probably gave him a promotion as a reward for being loyal and obedient, rather than for his performance in battle.
Mordvichev was incorrect when he said that Ukraine’s counterattack will be finished by the end of August.

Although progress has been slower than expected, Ukraine has made improvements in important areas that were previously occupied.

Predicting the future, Mordvichev said: ‘Ukraine won’t achieve a lot during the winter. ‘ I believe everything will be finished by spring.

They are being mean to us, and we will have to do something about it soon. We need to free our lands. We need to do it and we have to do it.

His comments came up again when security experts cautioned that Putin will be refilling his military weapons as a result of an agreement with North Korea.

Kim Jong-un and his counterpart had a meeting on Wednesday. The supreme leader promised to support Russia’s fight.

Ivan Stupak, who used to work for Ukraine’s Security Service, said to Metro that Russia wants old weapons from the Soviet era to start their own attack in the east.

The list includes different types of weapons and ammunition. It has projectiles for a self-propelled rocket launcher called BM-21 Grad, shells for artillery and tanks, rounds for assault guns, and mortar mines.
