The police arrested a man and tied his hands together with handcuffs. Then, they pulled him along the road using their van and later physically attacked him.
A very upsetting video has become very popular in South Africa. It appears to show a man being pulled along a road in a very violent way on Friday evening around 6pm.
Police officers supposedly tied one of Milosh Basson’s hands to the back door of their car because they thought he had drugs.
A few people from the area chased after the van when it started driving in a neighborhood in Cape Town. They were yelling and screaming, and one person even tried to grab Milosh’s hand.
Milosh said he felt like he wasn’t fully awake for most of the difficult situation because he had been sprayed with pepper spray right before.
He was reportedly abandoned inside the van, injured and covered in blood, for a long time before being brought to the police station. He says that once there, officers kicked him and hit him with pipes.
Milosh said to SowetanLive that he was scared they might harm him at some time.
A video appears to show a person being handcuffed to a police vehicle in South Africa while it was moving.
Lawyer Keegan Lasker mentioned that he could only meet with his client after 10pm on that particular evening.
‘His clothes were covered in blood. He said that it was clear to him that he couldn’t help the person on a Friday because he was being treated badly by the police.
Milosh got out of custody on Monday after allegedly being accused of having drugs and not cooperating with the police.
The police are looking into what happened in a video that was shared and the officer who got hurt during the violent situation in Kensington.
The Ipid, which is in charge of overseeing the police in South Africa, said its investigators are going to meet with Milosh and ask him to share his statement.
A spokesperson said that they are starting to look into three people.
People often say that the police in South Africa are very violent and cruel. This reputation goes back to apartheid, when officers were used to make sure discrimination and segregation happened.
Although there have been big improvements, some of the old ways still exist as the country has become a democracy.
According to Ipid statistics, in the year 2019 to 2020, one person was killed every 20 hours because of police actions, on average.
In Johannesburg on August 26, 2020, a major case happened where a disabled 16-year-old named Nathaniel Julius was shot.
Police officers are being accused of causing his death because he was unable to respond to their questions due to his Down syndrome which made it hard for him to talk.
His family said he went out to buy biscuits and something really bad happened.
On August 16, 2012, the police in South Africa shot at a group of mine workers who were on strike in a place called Marikana, located in the North West province. This incident caused a lot of negative attention towards the police.
Around 34 people were killed and 78 people were severely injured when protests for higher wages turned violent, which is now referred to as the Marikana massacre.
Even the police minister, Bheki Cele, said that incidents of police violence in the country are concerning.
He recently explained to Parliament members that some police officers are doing a great job, but others are simply a result of the difficult social problems faced by all South Africans.
He said that these members are from very upset communities in our society.
Mr Cele continued, saying that the behavior we are currently seeing from South Africans should be the same behavior we expect from them. I heard that children are often similar to their parents.
He said that the state was trying to make things better for the police by hiring more psychologists and social workers to help with their well-being and mental health.

Man detained after groping Spanish reporter live on television
The Spanish police have taken a man into custody for allegedly touching a journalist in a sexual manner while she was appearing on live television.
Isa Balado was talking about a robbery in Madrid when he walked towards her and seemed to touch her backside. When she asked him about it, he said he didn’t do it.
Ms Balado tried to keep speaking, but the person in charge of the program stopped her.
Isa, sorry for bothering you. “Did he just touch your behind. ” Nacho Abad inquired.
The reporter agreed with Mr Abad, who told her to show the “idiot” on camera. Then, the camera moved to show Isa Balado and the man, who were still standing together and smiling happily.
Ms Balado told him that even though he wanted to know which channel they were from, there was no need for him to touch her bottom. She explained that she was currently doing a live show and focused on her work.
The man said he didn’t touch her, and then he tried to tickle her head as he left.
The police said they arrested a man for supposedly hurting a reporter while she was doing a TV show. The message was posted on X, which used to be called Twitter.
Mediaset Espana, the company that owns the news channel, said they support Ms Balado after the terrible situation she went through. They strongly condemn any kind of harassment or aggression.
Spain’s Labor Minister Yolanda Díaz also expressed her opinion about the incident, stating that it should not be ignored and there should be consequences for those involved. She wrote on X: “The reason why journalists going through sexual assaults like this is because of machismo. The people who attack them are not sorry and show no remorse on camera. ”
This happened as part of an argument about sexism in Spain. It started when the ex-president of the Spanish Football Association, Luis Rubiales, kissed World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso on the mouth.
He did things during the Women’s World Cup final that made many people angry. Because of this, a lot of people criticized him, he had to quit his job, and he was called to go to court for being accused of sexually assaulting and forcing someone to do something against their will. -

Captagon: UAE intercepts $1 billion amphetamine haul
Police in the United Arab Emirates found and took away 13 tonnes of amphetamine pills that were being brought into the country hidden inside furniture.
Officers found over $1 billion (£810 million) worth of the drug called Captagon, after being notified about a suspicious shipping container.
A video was found of Dubai police breaking open wooden panels and doors where they found 86 million hidden pills.
Called “the cheap version of cocaine,” Captagon is said to be a highly favored drug among young people in the Gulf region.
The police didn’t say where the illegal shipment came from, but people think that Captagon is made in large amounts in Syria.
During the peak of the civil war, armed groups provided fighters with a highly addictive drug that often contained caffeine. The purpose was to give the fighters extra bravery and confidence.
Many poor Syrians have been forced to join the illegal Captagon trade, which is worth a lot of money.
Even though the Syrian government has denied it, reports suggest that important people in the business and military sectors are involved in making and selling Captagon.
Dubai police found and took control of five large containers that were holding 13 tons of pills during a big operation.
The video they shared showed police following the containers and watching suspicious people. They also showed the police taking apart 651 doors and 432 wooden panels to find the drugs.
A group of criminals from different countries made a plan to send drugs in containers to the UAE and then move them to another country. Maj Gen Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, who leads the police’s anti-drugs department, provided this information.
An X-ray machine and a team of police dogs helped find the stolen goods, he said.
Six individuals were taken into custody during the mission.
It is thought to be one of the biggest collections ever stopped.
In 2020, authorities found 14,000 kilograms of Captagon pills hidden in drums that looked like paper and gear wheels in Italy. In another incident, last year Saudi Arabia discovered 46 million amphetamine pills, which were smuggled along with flour. -

Morocco quake: Rescuers from Lincolnshire promise to stay as long as necessary
Firefighters from Lincolnshire are helping in the UK‘s operation to find people who survived the earthquake in Morocco. They have committed to staying there until everyone is found.
Over 2,900 people have been reported dead in the earthquake that happened last Friday. It is the most deadly earthquake the country has experienced in the past 60 years.
Four firefighters and a rescue dog recently became members of the UK International Search and Rescue Team (UKISAR).
Karl Keuneke, who usually works at Lincoln South fire station, said that his team is still discovering people who are alive.
The Lincolnshire team includes Mr. Keuneke, Darren Burchnall, Ben Clarke, Neil Woodmansey, and rescue dog Colin.
They are part of a group of 60 firefighters from 14 fire services in the UK. They are part of UKISAR, which helps injured people and looks for survivors stuck under buildings that have fallen down.
The center of the shaking was in the High Atlas Mountains, about 71 kilometers (44 miles) away from Marrakesh. Most of the places that were hit the hardest are far-away villages and towns.
Mr Keuneke explained that the team stayed near the bottom of the mountains and had to drive for many hours to reach places where people were stuck.
He said that search teams are finding people who are still alive, so there is still a chance for more people to be saved.
The firefighter said they saw a lot of destruction in the areas that were hit the hardest.
It feels really strange to be here. Clearly, we did a lot of practice before we went to work and we are firefighters in the UK, but it is very different from what we are familiar with.
He said, “We will stay here as long as we can help the people. ” -

Mitt Romney asks Trump and Biden to ‘stand aside’ for 2024
Mitt Romney, a US senator and someone who previously wanted to be president, has said that Donald Trump and Joe Biden should step aside and allow younger politicians to have a chance.
He said these things when talking to the media about his own intentions to stop working.
He said he was deciding not to run again because he believed it was time for younger leaders to take over.
MrRomney, who is 76 years old, has been involved in US politics for the past 20 years. He also served as the governor of Massachusetts for a period of time.
Lately, the important Republican has started speaking out against both Mr Biden and Mr Trump.
He will continue to be in the position until January 2025, which is when his senate term ends.
MrRomney made a video where he said he will not run again. He said that his age influenced his decision.
By the time another term ends, I would be in my mid-80s. He said that it’s time for new leaders. Even though I am not running for re-election, I am still going to continue fighting.
He said that he wants young people to join the Republican party, become candidates for office, and vote. He believes that both parties would benefit from having more choices of candidates from younger generations.
When asked by the BBC, Mr. Romney said it would be good if both President Biden and Mr. Trump step down and let new people from the younger generation lead their parties.
Mr Biden, who is 80 years old, and Mr Trump, who is 77 years old, are the leading candidates for the Democrats and Republicans in the 2024 presidential race, correspondingly.
MrRomney also pointed out differences between himself and some other Republicans. He believes that he represents a smaller and more thoughtful faction of the party that is focused on policy objectives.
According to him, Republican lawmakers who back Mr. Trump are mainly interested in getting revenge and settling perceived wrongdoings.
MrRomney ran for president as the Republican candidate in 2012, but he didn’t win. Barack Obama, who was already the president, ended up winning again.
Six years later, he became one of Utah’s two senators after being chosen in an election. He tried to become the Republican candidate in 2008 but it didn’t work out. He was also the governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007.
In 2020, he chose to find Mr. Trump guilty during his initial impeachment trial, which was the first time a senator voted to find a member of his own party guilty. He was the only person from the Republican party who did it.
He voted to find the former president guilty again in his second impeachment trial after the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Ever since that time, Mr. Romney has been against the former president. Trump was happy about the news and expressed his excitement on Truth Social, using all capital letters. He said that Mr. Romney did not serve well and considered his retirement to be great news.
IfRomney isn’t there, his seat in the senate will most likely be given to one of the Trump-supporting candidates who are considered as potential options. -

China danger to way of life in UK – Rishi Sunak
The Communist government in China, according to Rishi Sunak, poses a “special threat to our open and democratic way of life.”
In his remarks, the prime minister addressed a report that the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament had issued in July.
He promised that ministers will take “all necessary steps” to defend the UK from foreign state interference.
Some of Mr. Sunak’s own MPs have been pressuring him lately to formally classify China as a “threat.”
The prime minister has refrained from doing this, instead referring to China as a “epoch-defining and systemic challenge” while accepting the necessity of engaging the superpower.
The ISC report was used by Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer on Wednesday to accuse the PM of ignoring warnings about China and leaving the UK “desperately playing catch up” in terms of security. He demanded an investigation into UK-China relations.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that police had detained a researcher working for Parliament on suspicion of espionage for China under the Official Secrets Act.
In a statement sent through solicitors, the researcher—whom the BBC is not naming—debunked the allegations. The Official Secrets Act led to the arrest of two persons, one of which was him.
In response to the report from the committee, which was written before the arrest became public, Mr. Sunak stated that he was “particularly conscious” of the necessity for a “robust approach to any and all state threat activity.”
The ISC had issued a warning that China would “successfully penetrate every sector of the UK’s economy” using its “size, ambition, and capability.”
“While seeking to exert influence is a legitimate course of action, China oversteps the boundary and crosses the line into interference,” the cross-party committee of parliamentarians continued.
China has been particularly successful at buying academic institutions with its money and influence to advance its international narrative and quell criticism of it.
‘Sabotage’
Along with Mr. Sunak’s declaration, the entire administration responded, agreeing that “some Chinese action crosses the line from influence into interference.”
Recognising that China had “tried to headhunt British and allied nationals in key positions and with sensitive knowledge and experience, including from government, military, industry, and wider society,” it claimed that China had “tried to headhunt these individuals.”
Additionally, it stated that targeting of current and former civil workers was something British intelligence was “acutely aware and vigilant” about.
However, it said that the UK intelligence community’s amount of resources allocated to China had grown “significantly” in recent years.
Using new authority to examine foreign investment, the government reportedly vetoed eight investment deals last year when the buyer had ties to China.
In addition, the government noted that it had taken control of CGN’s former ownership of a share in the Sizewell C nuclear power facility and barred Huawei from the UK’s 5G telecom network.
To be able to meet the challenge, the government understands that “further investment” would be required.
It declared that it was increasing money for activities and training in the Mandarin language in order to broaden knowledge.
The UK will become a “harder target” because of the National Security Act, which was approved in July and “introduces a range of new offences for foreign interference, assisting a foreign intelligence service, sabotage, and theft of trade secrets,” according to Mr. Sunak.
And he claimed that this year’s Higher Education Act included measures to defend colleges against attacks to free expression.
‘Glacial’
The ISC’s chair, Conservative MP Julian Lewis, refuted Mr. Sunak’s assertion that the committee’s report was out-of-date.
Given the glacial pace at which the government’s China policy proceeded, he stated, “We observed all important changes and highlighted them throughout the report up until two months before publication.
According to the government, its approach to China is determined by the need to safeguard the UK’s prosperity and security, by uniting with friends to address Beijing’s challenges, and by engaging with China itself to seek out stable and positive ties.
According to the administration, cooperation is essential in many areas, from shared economic interests to the need to combat climate change.
Foreign Secretary James Cleverly justified his meeting with Chinese officials in Beijing last month, the first such encounter by a foreign secretary in five years, by saying it would not be “credible” to end relations with China.

Reasons women’s nose grows bigger during pregnancy
A common belief is that a woman’s nose grows bigger during pregnancy, but this notion is mostly a misconception. While some changes do occur during pregnancy, they don’t typically result in a larger nose. Here’s what might be happening:
- Nasal Congestion: Many pregnant women experience nasal congestion or stuffiness, often referred to as “pregnancy rhinitis.” Hormonal changes can cause the blood vessels in the nasal passages to swell, leading to congestion. This can make the nose feel stuffier and potentially give the illusion of a slightly larger nose.
- Increased Blood Volume: During pregnancy, a woman’s blood volume increases significantly to support the growing fetus. This can lead to increased blood flow throughout the body, including the nose. The nasal tissues may become more engorged, contributing to the feeling of nasal congestion.
- Hormonal Changes: Pregnancy hormones, particularly estrogen, can affect the body in various ways. While they don’t directly cause the nose to grow larger, they can lead to changes in the skin and connective tissues. Some women might notice their skin becoming more sensitive or experiencing changes in skin texture, but this is not exclusive to the nose.
- Gestational Rhinitis: Some women may develop a condition called “gestational rhinitis,” which is characterized by nasal congestion and a runny or stuffy nose during pregnancy. It’s a temporary condition that usually resolves after childbirth.
It’s essential to note that any apparent changes in the size or appearance of the nose during pregnancy are generally subtle and temporary. They are related to fluid retention, increased blood flow, and hormonal fluctuations, rather than actual growth of the nose.
If you experience discomfort due to nasal congestion during pregnancy, you can try saline nasal sprays or humidifiers to alleviate symptoms. However, if you have concerns about unusual changes or symptoms during pregnancy, it’s advisable to consult your healthcare provider for a proper evaluation and guidance.

Five Palestinians killed in explosion near Gaza border wall
The burials have happened for five Palestinians who died in a blast in Gaza near the wall separating Israel.
Many people had joined two gatherings when the explosion happened on Wednesday evening.
The Israeli army said that some people tried to throw a bomb at their soldiers.
A Palestinian security source told the BBC that a homemade device, typically used to make a loud and annoying sound that can cause trouble, exploded while young men were trying to throw it.
Palestinian medics say that more than 20 people got hurt.
The IDF said that the protesters had already thrown explosives and grenades at soldiers before.
The IDF has shared a low-quality black and white video that shows an explosion near a strong wall built by Israel around Gaza. In the video, we can see a group of people quickly moving away from the explosion.
A video from Palestine was shown to the BBC. In the video, a lot of young men were near the Israeli barrier, about 2 meters away. Suddenly, there was a big explosion that seemed to immediately kill some of the protesters. You cannot see any Israeli military.
Saif Muhareb, a person who saw something, said he was with a group of about 50 individuals.
We discovered a dark thing that resembled a camera – it measured 10 centimeters wide and 50 centimeters long. I was standing at the back when someone touched it and it blew up.
There were big protests between 2018 and 2019 called the Great March of Return.
Israeli soldiers shot at people protesting every week, causing over 300 Palestinians to die and many others to get hurt, says the Palestinian health ministry. The Israeli army said it fired at individuals attempting to enter its land.
On Wednesday, there was a protest organized by Palestinian political groups, including the Hamas group that controls Gaza, to remember when Israel left the Gaza strip in 2005 without any agreement. Another protest was organized to express solidarity with Palestinian prisoners who are currently being held in Israeli prisons.
On Thursday morning, a group of people who were sad got together to move the dead bodies of the people who died in the big blast from Shifa Hospital, which is in the middle of Gaza City.
Wael al-Zard, who is a leader in the local Hamas group and gives religious talks at the big Mosque, had his son Baraa died. Baraa was 18 years old.
“He said that he feels very sad and his eyes are crying because he lost his son, who brings him a lot of happiness. ”
But we are grateful to God that I am proud to be the father of a hero who gave his life for his country. He made me feel confident and proud. -

My vote is for Mahama come 2024 elections – KOD
Kofi Okyere Darko, also known as KOD, an award-winning broadcast journalist and Creative President of Nineteen57, has announced his choice of political party for the 2024 general election.
In the past, KOD had declared his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after supporting the party during the 2016 campaign. However, he has now changed course and revealed his intention to vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2024. He expressed his disappointment in the NPP for failing to fulfill their promises.
KOD made these statements during the ‘Big Interview’ segment on Joy Prime’s morning show with host Roselyn Felli.
“I think Mahama was an amazing and wonderful president. He did amazingly well for this country, but when he lost the election and Nana Akufo-Addo became president, I thought, well, Nana has been trying for all these years.
“If he had never become president, it would have been like the best man we never had, and especially now that the narrative we hear is that the next person is going to do what I was not able to finish; no, that’s not Nana Akufo-Addo.”
Asked if he was disappointed by the president’s failure, he said, “I am. I’m highly disappointed.”
Again, when he was asked, ‘So come 2024, will you still vote for the NPP?’ He answered “No”.
Asked about the NDC, he said “Yes”.
However, he believes that the former president and NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has strong qualities and the potential to bring about positive changes in Ghana’s economy.
The broadcaster also explained that his previous support for the NPP was driven by his vision of a better Ghana under Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership, which, in his opinion, did not materialize as expected.
While acknowledging the NPP government’s introduction of the free SHS policy, he criticized its execution, particularly regarding the payment of caterers.
Additionally, the fashion designer expressed his belief that the Akufo-Addo-led government could have performed better.
KOD has faced criticism from Ghanaians for his support of the NPP as a journalist, a stance some view as conflicting with the ethics of the profession. In response, he stated, “I am simply someone who is deeply passionate about Ghana.”

Captured US prison escapee intended to get to Canada
Pennsylvania killer Danelo Cavalcante had plans to run away to Canada before he was caught by the authorities on Wednesday.
The man, who is 34 years old, was found guilty of murdering his former girlfriend. He allegedly informed the authorities that he planned to steal someone’s car and travel to Canada.
He also said that some of the 500 officers looking for him got very near to him, and they almost stepped on him.
A police dog found Cavalcante crawling through dense bushes.
The authorities first believed that he might attempt to go back to his home country, Brazil, where he is wanted for another killing.
But Cavalcante had different thoughts, he explained to the authorities after he was caught.
Supervisory deputy US Marshal Robert Clark told ABC News that a person said they were planning to steal a car from someone in the next day, and that they were going to travel to Canada.
Cavalcante said that the authorities were very close to catching him, so close that sometimes they almost stepped on him. They were only five or six feet away.
Detective David Sassa from Chester County said to CNN, “Sometimes, the special teams walked past him. ”
MrSassa said that Cavalcante told investigators that there were times when he didn’t move for about one or one and a half days.
Cavalcante said he kept himself shaved by using a razor he found in a backpack.
He was also reported to have told the authorities that he stayed alive by drinking water from a stream and eating watermelon that he found at a farm.
The search for the man ended because they used special technology to detect heat, and a dog named Yoda helped them find him. Yoda is a four-year-old Belgian Malinois and is part of a Customs and Border Protection team.
Yoda stopped Cavalcante from escaping and bit him, causing a small wound.
Cavalcante was waiting to move to a different place when he got away from Chester County Prison on 31 August by crawling up two walls.
The 5-foot suspect was able to escape from at least six police teams, including the FBI, US Marshals, and US Border Patrol, for a period of two weeks.
Cavalcante was given a punishment last month. He will stay in prison for the rest of his life and will not be allowed to be released. He killed his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, by stabbing her. This happened in front of her two young children.
He will be moved to a state prison where he will spend the rest of his life.
He has also been accused of a serious crime called felony escape. -

Warning for French iPhone 12: European authorities investigate radiation alert
Some European countries are looking into worries that the iPhone 12 is giving off too much electromagnetic radiation. France has told Apple to stop selling the phone.
Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany are now investigating the problem as well.
France’s regulator has told the tech giant it has two weeks to reply to an investigation. If the investigation finds wrongdoing, other countries in Europe may take similar actions.
Apple said that it had shown evidence that it was following the rules on radiation.
France’s National Frequencies Agency (ANFR) reported that radiation levels detected in the iPhone 12 exceeded the permissible limits.
The French sales stoppage could have a big effect, says French digital economy minister Jean-Noël Barrot to Le Parisien newspaper. The ANFR will now give its results to regulators in other countries in the EU.
The government of Belgium has told its regulator to check whether the iPhone 12, which came out in 2020, can be dangerous for our health.
It is my job to respond and make sure that everyone in the kingdom is kept safe and protected from any possible harm. Belgian state secretary for digitalisation, Mathieu Michel, said that health is a very important matter and should never be ignored.
He told Le Soir that he requested the regulator to check all Apple models and then other brands as well.
The RDI, which is responsible for digital infrastructure in the Netherlands, stated that the French tests proved that radiation levels were definitely too high. The RDI said they would talk to Apple, but they said there is no urgent danger to safety.
In simpler words, the German network agency called BNetzA told the BBC that the French investigation could result in actions that would affect all countries in the European Union.
The UK hasn’t said what they will do after France banned something.
Apple disagreed with the findings from France and said they were contesting them. They also mentioned that they had given the French agency lab results from Apple and other companies, which proved that the device met the regulations.
The Minister in charge of France’s digital economy said that he believes Apple will be able to solve the problem by releasing an update for their software.
If that method didn’t work, Apple would need to take back all the iPhone 12 devices they sold in France, as stated by the ANFR.
The regulator checks two radiation tests: one measures a phone when it touches a person’s body, like when it is held or placed in a pocket; the other test is done when the phone is in a pocket or bag but a bit further away.
The iPhone 12 did well in the second test, but it went beyond the limits set by EU rules in the first test, according to the ANFR.
The watchdog organization said it will inspect Apple stores and other sellers to ensure they have stopped selling the specific model.
Smartphones were removed from stores in France before due to radiation tests, but this is the first occasion where an iPhone was impacted.
The World Health Organization states that many studies have been conducted over the years to understand if using mobile phones can have any negative effects on our health.
On its website, it says that there have been no known negative health effects linked to using mobile phones. -

Kim Jong Un extends his trip to Russia by number of days
North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un has made a surprise decision to stay longer in Russia, where he was having a meeting with President Vladimir Putin for a possible agreement on buying weapons.
The couple talked about ways they could work together in the military on Wednesday.
Mr Putin said yes to visiting North Korea when Mr. Kim invited him, according to a spokesperson from the Kremlin.
The US has warned that if anyone helps Moscow in its war against Ukraine, it would be against UN resolutions.
Mr Kim was warmly welcomed by Mr. Putin at the Vostochny space centre in Russia’s far east on Wednesday. The North Korean leader traveled there for two days in his private luxury bulletproof train.
Russian state media released video showing the two leaders smiling as they greeted each other with a handshake. Putin then personally accompanied Mr. Kim as they toured the space center.
They also gave each other presents, said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. Putin gave Mr. Kim a glove from a spacesuit that had been to space multiple times and also gave him a rifle made in Russia. Mr Kim gave Mr Putin a gun from North Korea, along with other gifts.
Mr Putin went back to Moscow after the meeting, but Mr. Kim’s visit would continue for a few more days, according to Mr. Peskov, who didn’t provide more details.
The leader of North Korea was going to watch Russian warships and also visit some factories and the city of Vladivostok before going back home.
The meeting on Wednesday happened when the two punished governments met, and their relationships with the Western countries are currently very bad.
The two leaders talked about the military and the war in Ukraine during the summit. Kim seemed to show support for the war.
“Russia is engaging in a serious fight to defend its independence and safety against Western powers,” Mr. Kim expressed, assuring Mr. Putin that he will consistently back him.
Mr Putin also mentioned that he would assist Pyongyang in creating satellites. This made the United States worried because they believe that Russian assistance with satellite technology could enhance North Korea’s missile program.
“That is very concerning and could potentially break several rules set by the UN Security Council,” said Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the US State Department, on Wednesday. Russia had previously agreed to these rules.
Mr Putin seemed to agree that there were some restrictions or limitations when it came to military collaboration.
The United States has said it will take action if North Korea gives weapons to Russia. In response, Russia said they care about their relationship with North Korea and don’t care about warnings from the US. -

A fancy ship that got stuck in the mud in Greenland since Monday has been pulled out.
The Ocean Explorer and the people on board were saved by a Greenland research ship after getting stuck in the Northeast Greenland National Park.
The person who owns the boat, called SunStone, said that nobody on the boat got hurt.
However, the travel company Aurora Expeditions said that a few people have contracted Covid-19.
The Ocean Explorer got stuck in thick mud and dirt above the Arctic Circle in a place called Alpefjord, which is 1,400 km (870 miles) northeast of the capital of Greenland, Nuuk. Several tries were made to release the ship when the water level was high, but they were not successful.
The Danish military’s Arctic Command said a ship was supposed to come to the area on Friday to check things.
The ship was eventually moved by a government-owned trawler from Greenland called Tarajoq, which means “salt” in the Greenlandic language. The ship also used its own power to be dislodged.
SunStone mentioned that the ship and the people on it will be taken to a port to check the damage at the bottom of the ship. The passengers will also be taken to a port from where they can be flown home.
It said that the environment was not harmed and the ship was not damaged.
There were 112 people on the cruise ship, including 94 crew members. The cruise was organized by an Australian holiday company called Aurora Expeditions. They left Norway on 2 September and were supposed to come back on 22 September.
A lot of the people on the plane were from Australia, also from New Zealand, the UK, South Korea, and the US. Steven Fraser and Gina Hill, who are no longer working and are travelling on the Ocean Explorer, said that even though they were stuck, the passengers were in good moods.
Mr Fraser, who got Covid during the trip, said to The Sydney Morning Herald: “It’s a little bit annoying, but we’re in a really nice place. ” We are sitting close to the glacier and we open our window.
Aurora Expeditions recently announced that three individuals have gotten the virus, but they are currently being kept separate from others.
The Northeast Greenland National Park is a really big place, about as big as France and Spain combined. It is known for having fjords, big chunks of ice called icebergs, and tall mountains.
It is also where polar bears, muskoxen, and the mysterious narwhal live. -

Carrefour in France posts warnings about ‘shrinkflation’
The French supermarket Carrefour has placed stickers on its shelves this week to warn customers about “shrinkflation. ” This means that the amount of product in a packet is decreasing, but the price remains the same.
Lipton Ice Tea, Lindt chocolate, and Viennetta ice cream are some of the products that are being criticized and exposed.
Shoppers are being informed if bottles are smaller or if pack contents weigh less.
Carrefour wants to make the companies that make the products lower their prices.
“According to Stefen Bompais, the director of client communications at Carrefour, the goal of stigmatizing these products is to make manufacturers reconsider their prices. ”
Carrefour found that 26 products have become smaller in size, but their prices haven’t been lowered. These products are made by big food companies like Nestle, PepsiCo, and Unilever.
Carrefour said that Nestle’s Guigoz infant milk formula used to come in a pack size of 900g, but now it has been reduced to 830g.
The supermarket said that a bottle of sugar-free peach-flavored Lipton Ice Tea made by PepsiCo became smaller. It used to be 1. 5 liters, but now it is only 1. 25 liters
Viennetta, a product made by Unilever, used to weigh 350g but now it weighs 320g, meaning it has become smaller.
Carrefour, the second biggest supermarket in France, is putting signs on the shelves to show customers that certain products have become more expensive and have reduced in size.
Unilever, Pepsico, and Nestle have not said anything about Carrefour’s decision.
French retailers and food manufacturers are being asked to lower their prices, similar to what is happening in the UK, due to the difficulty shoppers are facing with the sudden increase in prices.
In June, the French Finance Minister, Bruno Le Maire, called a meeting with 75 retailers and consumer groups to talk about prices. He accused manufacturers of not following the rules on inflation.
British consumer groups are also saying that the value of everyday items like cat food and chocolate biscuits is getting smaller.
According to retail expert Ged Futter, UK supermarkets are unlikely to imitate Carrefour because it may damage relationships between retailers and food firms.
“He said this is a very straightforward way of attempting to compete. ” “To accomplish that with the people who make your products, it won’t be beneficial. ”
Supermarkets use a tactic called “shrinkflation” with their own-label products. This means they try to keep the price of the products at a certain point, like £1, by using cheaper ingredients or making the portions smaller to deal with increasing costs.
He said that criticizing brands for doing the same thing would be like hypocrites judging others while having the same flaws. -

Nigeria’s ‘total system collapse’ causes widespread blackouts
Nigeria is currently experiencing a lot of power outages caused by a complete breakdown in the electricity system.
On Thursday, the amount of power being made went down to zero megawatts.
Only a very small amount of things have been given back, but this is much less than what is usually used in Africa’s most crowded country.
Power supply in Nigeria is not reliable, even though Nigeria produces a lot of oil and gas.
This is the most severe power failure in a year – the electrical system in the West African country broke down at least four times in 2022, and the authorities said it was due to technical issues.
Less than half of the people living in Nigeria have access to steady electricity. Many people rely on generators, inverters, and other alternative sources of power. Most homes and offices don’t only rely on the national grid for electricity.
Nigeria has the potential to generate 12,500MW of power, but usually only produces a quarter of that amount.
According to data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, on Thursday around 10:30 local time (09:30 GMT), the power levels increased from zero to 273MW. However, this is much lower than the usual daily average of 4,100MW.
President Bola Tinubu, who has been in charge for a little more than 100 days, has promised to make the electricity supply better by letting state governments construct their own power plants. -

Mohbad reportedly held a candlelight procession for himself before his demise
As additional information unfolds regarding the unexpected passing of Nigerian singer Mohbad, a video has gone viral featuring the artist holding a candlelight procession for himself onstage.
In this particular video, a group of young men entered the stage donning white robes and carrying lit candles.
This event occurred before the Afro-street pop star’s live performance at his recent concert.
Nevertheless, the circumstances surrounding the singer’s demise remain unclear, prompting calls from the online community for a more comprehensive investigation into his sudden death.
Prominent TikToker ‘Verydarkman’ is among the notable figures advocating for a thorough inquiry into Mohbad’s passing.
Additionally, there have been calls for the apprehension of his former manager, Naira Marley, who has been accused of harassing Mohbad until his untimely demise.

UAW gears up for strike as contract negotiations reach their deadline
Workers at three major car companies in the United States are getting ready to go on strike together in a way that has never happened before.
The United Autoworkers Union said that the companies did not offer acceptable deals, and the current labor contracts are ending on Thursday night.
This fight could cause prices to increase for people who want to buy things and create big problems for the companies GM, Ford, and Stellantis.
The UAW said some workers might go on strike starting Friday at a few locations, and the strike could spread to more places.
UAW president Shawn Fain said on Wednesday that although companies are showing some progress, they are still not willing to agree on giving salary increases that would compensate for the rising prices and declining wages over the past few decades.
The union wanted a 40% raise in pay for its around 140,000 members over four years. They pointed out that company leaders had also received a similar increase in pay.
The discussions between the two parties began in July and were tense right from the beginning. Fain skipped the tradition of shaking hands with the executives, which usually marks the start of negotiations.
The three companies have increased their first offers. Ford wants to raise pay by 20% over the contract time, GM by 18%, and Stellantis (the owner of Jeep and Chrysler) by 17. 5%, according to Mr.
He said that the companies can afford to give more, since they have been making a lot of money for many years.
Mr Fain recently became a leader and had promised to challenge big companies. He described the fight using religious language, saying it was a part of a bigger battle against wealthy individuals and a belief that change could happen.
“We fight to help all the people who work and those who are poor,” he said. We are not the issue. Corporate greed is the issue.
Jim Farley, the leader of Ford, said to the news people earlier this week that he wanted to prevent a strike, but there were things the company couldn’t agree on.
“He said we need to make sure the company stays strong and successful for a long time,”
American car manufacturers are already facing challenges with a decrease in sales and expenses related to new investments as they transition production to electric cars.
According to the Anderson Economic Group, if all workers at the three car companies go on strike for 10 days, it could cost the companies almost $1 billion and the workers nearly $900 million in lost wages. It is estimated that the strike could cause about $5 billion in economic damage as it affects various areas.
Before the strike started, there were not many cars available for sale. This is because there were not enough car parts due to the pandemic. The number of cars available now is much lower than in the past.
Experts said that this could result in a long strike leading to increased prices for shoppers.
Ford, GM, and Stellantis together make up around 40% of car sales in the US, but their portion has significantly decreased in the last 25 years due to the success of foreign companies like Toyota.
The companies have been able to stop unions from forming and have cheaper labor expenses.
But workers in the US are becoming more frustrated because their pay is not keeping up with the increasing prices and there are fewer job opportunities available.
According to research from Cornell University, last year there were over 420 instances where work was stopped, which is more than 50% increase from the previous year.
Earlier this year, the big delivery company UPS almost had a strike where workers refuse to work. Also, in Hollywood, writers and actors are still on strike.
The car industry had a strike in 2019. Workers at General Motors stopped working for six weeks. -

Mr Drew’s mysterious post stirs controversy amid Mohbad’s issues
Amidst the turmoil following Mohbad’s passing and his reported unresolved disputes with his former record label, Ghanaian artiste Mr. Drew shared a mysterious message on social media.
Mohbad officially departed from Marlian Records in October 2022, with his legal team stating that his exit stemmed from unpaid royalties dating back to 2019 and the relentless attacks he endured, allegedly orchestrated by CEO Naira Marley.
This led to accusations that the Nigerian singer had narrowly escaped multiple attempts on his life plotted by his former record label until his unfortunate demise.
As news of his death spread, posts from his peers alleging continuous death threats he faced went viral, fueling speculations about his former record label’s involvement in his passing.
Additionally, several videos emerged showing Mohbad pleading for help and raising alarm about the severity of death threats from his former record label, intensifying the ongoing discussion.
Furthermore, an old video surfaced in which the Nigerian singer blamed his former record label for hindering his income by preventing show promoters from booking him for gigs.
Amid the controversy and alleged conspiracy surrounding Mohbad’s death, Mr. Drew commented on the situation, stating that the music industry is becoming increasingly daunting for “record label artistes” with each passing day.

Mohbad struggled with harassment and depression- Paul Okoye speaks
Show promoter Paul Okoye, known as Pauloo, has responded to the passing of the fast-rising singer Mohbad.
The entertainment industry was in mourning on Tuesday night following Mohbad’s death.
Despite the controversies surrounding his passing, the ‘Ko Kpo Ke’ singer was laid to rest in his hometown of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Online discussions suggested that Mohbad had experienced harassment over his departure from his former record label, ‘Marlians,’ and was criticized for remaining silent on the issue.
However, Pauloo, who is in a relationship with Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, refuted the speculation that the deceased had stayed quiet about the harassment he faced before his death.
According to the show promoter, Mohbad had confided in him about his fears, harassment, and depression but had remained strong and full of life.
Pauloo expressed his sadness at the passing and urged people to refrain from bullying and harassing others.
He wrote on Instagram: “I am beyond words just now, was with you in London. You opened up your fears, the harassment, the depression. But you remained resilient. Full of life, a shining star and like that you gone. I’m deeply saddened. Rest in eternal peace, Mohbad, my friend. Stop bullying, stop harassment.”

Ukraine claims Russian air defence system destroyed in Crimea
Ukraine has successfully destroyed a Russian air defense system in the area of Crimea that Russia has taken control of, according to information received by the BBC.
The security service and navy of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, carried out an attack on a Russian military site near Yevpatoriya using cruise missiles, according to a source from Ukrainian intelligence that spoke to the BBC.
People on social media shared videos that showed a fire and smoke in a place called Yevpatoriya, which is located in the western part of a peninsula that Russia has control over.
Moscow has not said anything about the attack so far.
However, the Russian defense ministry stated on Wednesday that they had destroyed multiple Ukrainian flying robots and prevented another attempt to harm a naval patrol ship.
There were some explosions reported in Crimea, which Russia took over unlawfully in 2014, earlier on Thursday.
According to a source from the BBC who knows a lot, the Ukrainian operation used drones to attack a Russian radar. Then, they used cruise missiles to attack missile launchers that protect against attacks from the air.
The drones targeted the devices that protect against air attacks and the devices that detect enemy planes. After turning off the radar stations, the Navy groups attacked the S300 and S400 ‘Triumph’ systems, which are valued at $1. 2 billion, using two Neptune cruise missiles,” the person said.
No information was given about how many batteries were focused on.
Ukrainian news sources said that there were explosions and smoke near a military base at around 5:40 am local time. Local residents reported this. Some videos have been posted on social media.
Russia’s defense department said that they shot down 11 flying drones over Crimea, but they don’t think the attack was very significant.
Local officials that Russia chose have not said that they found any problems with the military place or the systems that protect from attacks in the air.
The S400 air defence system from Russia started being used in 2007, and it is a newer and improved version of the S300 that has been used since 1978.
There are different types of these systems, but the most advanced one has the longest reach and can go up to 400km (249 miles) in distance, says the Russian Defence Ministry.
The S400 is able to destroy both manned and unmanned aircraft, as well as ballistic missiles.
It seems that Ukraine is increasing the number of attacks on the forces that have taken control of Crimea.
The attack happened after a big attack on the port of Sevastopol, where Ukraine says two Russian naval ships were badly damaged.
Russian officials said that 10 missiles were used in the attack and it caused 24 people to get hurt. Ukraine used missiles to show that they are using more long-range weapons, some of which they made in their own country.
The Ukrainian military said they are now using their own made Neptune cruise missiles.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s finance ministry announced that the country will receive $1. 25 billion (around £1 billion) from the United States for the World Bank’s PEACE in Ukraine project.
Officials stated that the money would be used for things that are not related to the military. It would be given to people who are in need and used to provide education and medical help. -

Teni opens up about Mohbad’s death
Nigerian singer and songwriter Teniola Apata MON, professionally known as Teni, has added her perspective to the ongoing controversy surrounding the passing of Mohbad, an Afrobeat singer.
Numerous sources have already begun pointing fingers and making accusations regarding the 27-year-old singer’s death. In a recent post on Twitter, Teni expressed her thoughts.
“Sources close to MOHBAD just told me : it got to some stages and Mohbad said to Naira “this is getting deeper than I thought o,me I no fit cope again o” that’s when the issues started getting worse..
They didn’t take him seriously until Mohbad stopped visiting the Marlians headquarters and studio for several months.
SamLarry and Naira Marley are now apprehensive about him revealing secrets, prompting their efforts to silence him.
Zinoleesky’s last trip to the UK was associated with drugs, and Mohbad was supposed to accompany him, but he chose not to.
Even though there are no verified evidence regarding the singer’s death, this further fuels rumours about those who are perceived to be behind his death.
Despite being taken to the hospital after an injection, Mohbad died. However, if singer, Damo is to be believed, his death may not have been natural. The singer said,
“He knew he was going to die” while also stating in a series of screenshots, the singer advised his younger colleague, Damokilladavibe to take over the world as it belongs to him now; prior to hours he was going to be announced dead.
late Mohbad wrote, “Brother. Take over the world. It’s yours.”

Wendy Shay to receive medical care in Germany – Bullet
Ruftown Records CEO, Ricky Nana Agyemang, widely known as Bullet, has revealed the next phase of Wendy Shay‘s treatment.
During an interview with HitzFM’s Andy Dosty, Bullet announced that Wendy Shay will soon be transported to Germany for additional medical care.
“It was very severe. It was extremely severe. She has spent five days in the hospital. Right now, what we are planning to do is to fly her to Germany for further medical checks.
“We are going to see the police this morning. We have been there, and they said they have to test the car and everything. We hope they get done soon,” he stated.
When asked about the severity of the accident, Bullet explained that the tipper truck that collided with Wendy Shay’s vehicle was transporting stones and was traveling at a high speed.
He further stated that the truck struck Wendy Shay’s car from behind, resulting in her head hitting the dashboard.
Bullet pointed out that Wendy Shay, accompanied by her personal assistant, was on her way home after a video shoot for her new song when the accident took place.
“Imagine your car being hit by a tipper truck with gravels and stones. It was extremely severe. When you see how heavy the tipper truck was and how it hit her from behind, it was serious. She was getting off the highway trying to branch. There’s no way a tipper truck can hit a Jeep Wrangler from behind and the person will survive it,”
In response to a question about where he was when the incident occurred, Bullet said, “I was in Kumasi trying to promote Wendy’s new songs and I heard that this happened so I had to rush back.”

Libyan prime minister takes 10-day break from school
Prime Minister of Libya‘s Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, has stopped all schooling across the country for 10 days to support Libyans impacted by the floods on 11 September.
Government of National Unity in Libya, which is recognized by other countries, announced this on Wednesday. The government’s headquarters are located in the capital city of Tripoli.
Two different governments in Libya, led by PM Al-Dabaiba and PM Osama Hamad, are working to help the people affected by floods in eastern Libya.
The statement said that schools will be used as places to stay for people affected by the flood and learning will be put on hold for now. -

The mayor of the destroyed city of Derna thinks that around 20,000 people might have passed away.
He said the number was calculated by counting the districts that were completely destroyed by the bursting of two dams on Sunday, which caused a massive flow of water.
A lot of people are still buried in the rubble of buildings that have fallen down or in the water. -

Nigeria elections: Websites fabricate stories to increase views and adverts
Numerous websites that emerged during Nigeria’s February 2023 elections, as uncovered by the BBC, are disseminating false information and gaining substantial visibility.
If there are many ads on websites, it could mean that they are making money by spreading false or misleading information.
They create untrue stories mixed with real news about sports, entertainment, and politics. Some of them even publish up to 700 pieces per month. They also like or criticize politicians in Nigeria.
Nearly seven months have passed since the intense elections took place. However, the country is still greatly split, as seen in the response to the recent verdict regarding the opposition’s objection to the election results.
These websites are spreading false information that could be making these divisions worse.
Lawyer Mojirayo Ogunlana recalls seeing unfamiliar stories on Twitter, which are now called X, from websites she had not encountered before, during the period before the elections. Many people were also joining her WhatsApp groups. She said there was a lot of fake news and it was too much to handle. Almost every day, false information was being spread on social media. “It made me lose trust,” Ms. Ogunlana explains
Mayowa Tijani, who studies false information, keeps track of how popular websites are becoming. He says that their stories became widely talked about during the elections and had a noticeable effect. He says that they keep spreading untrue stories.
Now, if one website makes up a false story, it is likely that other websites will share it and it becomes popular on social media. “They assist in pushing it further, causing it to go offline and spread even more. Eventually, it becomes the main story,” he explains.
The BBC Global Disinformation Team looked at three new websites: Podium Reporters, which was made in 2021, Reportera, which was made in July 2022, and Parallel Facts, which was made in May 2023. Tijani said there was a reason for creating them at those specific times.
During the campaign and afterwards, all three main candidates had false news stories about them published on the websites we studied.
Bola Tinubu, a member of the ruling APC party, became president after winning a close election with 37% of the total votes. The candidates who came in second and third place, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, are still disputing his election. Last week, the election tribunal said no to their complaints. However, they plan to take their case to the Supreme Court.
Politicians also told stories from the internet to gain more popularity. Festus Keyamo, who is currently the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, shared many stories from Podium Reporters during the elections.
Mr Obi joined two Twitter discussions called Twitter Spaces with Parallel Facts. In one of these discussions, the website’s activity increased from less than 10,000 mentions to 40,000 mentions between May and July 2023.
The website belongs to Kingsley Izuchukwu Okafor, who says he is interested in technology, public relations, and standing up against “bad governance” on his social media profiles. He has previously posted a picture of Peter Obi, saying “Obi is the man”.
The slogan of the website is “We don’t use misleading headlines, false information, or propaganda”. However, what we discovered is different.
Between 19 June and 15 July, the BBC found many news stories with lies on the website Parallel Facts. A news article published on 27 June said that Yakubu Mahmood, who leads Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec), was attempting to unlawfully give the APC political party 25% of the votes in Abuja.
However, there is no proof that Inec or Mr. Mahmood changed the election results in the capital as they were accused of.
Even though fact-checking agencies have proven that many untrue stories like this are not true, they still continue to be shown or not corrected.
A place in Nigeria where newspapers were being sold, before the final results of the presidential election were told to the public.
Reportera is a website that supports and has a political preference for the Labour Party. In a tweet that they have made important, they state that they do not accept or acknowledge Mr. Tinubu’s government
In just one month, the website shared four stories that were proven to be untrue. One of these stories said that President Tinubu came in third place during the election.
It also gave wrong information about a BBC investigation on the vote. In a story that was published on June 28, Reportera stated that the BBC found evidence that voters were prevented from voting and said that Mr Tinubu couldn’t be declared the winner.
But the BBC investigation did not reach that conclusion. This means that in certain areas in Rivers State, the number of votes for the Labour Party decreased, and the votes for the APC increased.
The BBC used information from Inec’s results-viewing portal to show that the Labour Party should have received the most votes in the state, not Mr. However, we didn’t have any proof that this happened in other parts of the country, so we couldn’t say that he shouldn’t have won the election.
The story mentioned that Reportera did a “review”, but it didn’t explain how it figured out that Mr Obi supposedly won. Instead, it referred to a poll on Twitter where 93% out of 31,000 people said that Mr Obi was the winner of the election.
Recently, the person who owns the website, Nnamdi Ibezim, confessed in a statement that they posted a story that was “based on a rumor”. On social media, Mr. Ibezim says he is a business person who has knowledge in many different areas.
According to his website’s story, published on August 6th, it was said that the former Minister of Works and Housing in Nigeria, Babatunde Fashola, was assisting judges of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in writing verdicts that favored the APC.
Mr Fashola later said that he wrote a letter to the Police Inspector General complaining about Repotera for making false claims and cyberstalking. Ibezim said that his brother, Chike Ibezim, got arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) because of an article he published. Ibezim stated that the arrest was against the rules of the country’s constitution.
The Nigerian Police said they caught Chike Ibezim.
First, he says that it seemed like the websites were trying to support specific candidates in the election. However, he thinks that the publishers also wanted to make money from advertisements on their websites.
We talked to experts in the media industry to find out how much money these websites could be earning.
According to IT and Digital Marketing consultant Yusufuddeen A Yusuf, they can earn a monthly income ranging from $100 to $10,000 (£80 to £8,000).
“He says that stories that get a lot of attention will bring in a lot of visitors, which leads to a lot of money from advertisements. ”
But according to Adebayo Ilupeju, a consultant at Africa Media Works who focuses on digital media and public relations, these websites may not be making money yet because they are still relatively new. “It’s a way to put money into something,” he says.
We contacted Podium Reporters, Reportera, and Parallel Facts. They ignored our emails asking about the untrue news on their websites and how much money they earn from ads.At the same time, the website Podium Reporters shares positive stories about the ruling APC.
On 4 July, 2023, an article was published giving an opinion about the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob), a group that wants to separate from Nigeria and has been declared a terrorist organization by the government.
It had a lot of untrue accusations. For instance, it stated that Ipob officially chose Mr Obi as their candidate. The Podium Reports often link Mr. Obi with Ipob in their stories. We found seven instances of this in a month.
BothObi and his party say they have no connection to Ipob, and the group has never publicly supported him.
We couldn’t prove that Podium Reporters belongs to someone. -

Naira Marley’s home allegedly set ablaze after Mohbad’s tragic demise
Naira Marley, the Marlians Records boss, has been prominently featured in the news since the tragic passing of his former artist, Mohbad, on September 12.Amidst the turmoil, a video has emerged depicting Mohbad’s fans causing chaos at Naira Marley’s residence in Lekki, Nigeria.
The footage shows a portion of the residence set ablaze as fans demand answers in the wake of Imole’s death.

Taiwan election: Netflix actress chosen as Terry Gou’s running mate by Foxconn founder
Terry Gou, the founder of Foxconn, has picked Tammy Lai, an actress, to be his partner in the presidential election in Taiwan.
Many people were surprised by today’s announcement because Ms. Lai doesn’t have any experience in politics.
Mr Gou is running as a candidate by himself after not being chosen by the main opposing party, Kuomintang.
Taiwan has been a country that is governed by the people since 1996. China is very important in this situation because it says the island belongs to them and they might use force to bring it under their control.
Mr Gou, who supports China, is not doing as well as William Lai, Ko Wen-je, and Hou Yu-ih in various surveys.
Ms Lai, who is 60 years old, has been working in the entertainment industry for many years. She acted as a presidential candidate, a character that seemed to be based on President Tsai Ing-wen, on the show Wave Makers on Netflix. Earlier this year, the series led to the emergence of a Me too movement in Taiwan.
However, according to a local magazine called Business Today, he had already left the island before she was born.
Mr Gou has been trying to convince voters by talking about his achievements in business and his past work with China. He founded Foxconn in 1974 and now it is a major supplier for Apple.
Ms Lai said she had an open mind. After spending some time with Mr. Gou, I have realized that I can work well with him because he is very fascinating.
People are wondering about Ms. Lai’s nationality because laws in Taiwan say that people who want to be president can only have one nationality. A spokesperson said that Ms. Lai will respond to the question on her own later.
Dennis Weng, a professor at Sam Houston State University in the US, said it was a smart decision for Mr Gou. However, it may not have a big impact on the outcome of the January election in the end.
Tammy Lai did really well in Wave Makers, and lots of young people were in the audience. “He said that young people don’t like Terry Gou,” he told the BBC in Chinese. -

Rival Libyan groups ‘coordinating flood relief’
The United Nations has said that the two competing governments in Libya are working together to organize help for people affected by floods.
Over 5,300 people lost their lives when two dams broke, causing extremely destructive floods in the eastern city of Derna.
The mayor of Derna, Abdulmenam al-Ghaithi, said that the number of people affected could be as high as 20,000, because a large part of the city was destroyed.
Another person from the government in Tobruk said that many bodies are always being thrown into the sea.
MrGhaithi said that around 18,000 to 20,000 people could die in the city. This estimation is based on the number of buildings destroyed by the flood in different areas of the city.
We need teams who are experts in finding and bringing back dead bodies.
Over 10,000 people are currently lost and many more have been forced to leave their homes.
Hichem Abu Chkiouat, a government official in charge of aviation in eastern Libya, said to Reuters that the number of people who died could go up by a lot because the sea keeps bringing more dead bodies.
Guma El-Gamaty, a Libyan academic and head of the Taghyeer Party, explained that there is concern that the number of casualties from the incident could be even higher. This is because there are many people who have not been found or reached out to their families. Their phones are not working, so it’s unclear if they are trapped under the debris, if they have died, or if they are in the ocean.
Officials have requested additional assistance from other countries.
A person who works for the UN said that both the governments in the east and west asked for help from other countries and were talking with each other.
Tauhid Pasha, from the International Organisation for Migration, said that both governments asked the international community for help and services.
“The Western government called the Government of National Unity is helping us and speaking on behalf of the whole country. They are also working together with the government in the east,” he said.
“The current challenge is for the international community to respond appropriately to the needs and requests of governments,” he said.
MrPasha stated that we need to increase support for the city very quickly and we need money to do so. The city originally had about 90,000 people before the flood.
After the overthrow of the long-time leader Col Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the Libyan state started to break apart.
It broke into two rival groups that are both in charge of different parts of Libya, one in the west called Tripoli and one in the east called Tobruk.
The country is still stuck in a fight between many groups of armed people.
Abdul Hamid Dbeibah is the leader of the government in Tripoli that is supported by the United Nations.
Osama Hamad is the leader of the rival House of Representatives in the eastern region.
But, lots of people believe that the true person in charge is Gen Khalifa Haftar, who is the leader of the Libyan National Army.
Gen Haftar met with a group of soldiers from Egypt to give help and assistance after a terrible event. The UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, Volker Turk, emphasized that after the floods, it was important for all political groups to join forces and collaborate.
“He said that now is a time when we should all work together towards the same goal. ”
Everyone who is affected should be helped, regardless of any specific group or organization they belong to. It is important to make sure that we take extra care to protect groups of people who are in vulnerable situations and are at even greater risk after a disaster.
Abdulkader Assad, who is the political editor of the Libya Observer, mentioned that having one government that is accepted worldwide in the western part of Libya being challenged by another government in the eastern part has made it difficult for rescue operations to take place.
“We are aware that Libya has been divided by two governments for at least ten years. However, we have not really experienced the consequences of this split because both governments were focused on gaining power and controlling different parts of the country,” he explained.
But now that a few cities are going through this natural disaster, we can observe that the absence of a united centralized government is actually impacting people’s lives.
Libyan teams looking for people who are alive in Derna are getting help from others on the field.
People who look for and save people who are lost or in danger are coming from Egypt and Tunisia.
Over 160 people from Turkey and firefighters from Italy and Spain are coming together.
Tommaso Della Longa, a representative for the president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, stated that there was not much time left to find people who were still alive.
“He said that we are aware that this window will unfortunately close soon, but there is still hope. ”
The Libyan Red Crescent teams who were present at the scene described the disaster as a combination of a bombardment and an earthquake. Happening at the same time means that two or more things are occurring together or in sync.
“What they are telling us is actually stories about whole parts of the city that no longer exist, villages that are completely wrecked, and thousands of families who currently need everything,” Mr. Della Longa included.Usama Al Husadi, who is 52 years old, has been looking for his wife and five children since the terrible flood occurred.
I walked to find them. He told Reuters news agency that he went to all hospitals and schools but had no success. He was crying with his head in his hands.
“We have lost at least 50 relatives from my father’s family – some are missing and some have died,” he said.
The emigration ministry of Egypt said that the bodies of over 80 Egyptian migrants who died in the flood were brought back to Egypt. They were buried in their hometowns. -

NPP Primaries: Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign targets 70% victory
Kennedy Agyapong‘s campaign team has anticipated a resounding victory in the forthcoming NPP presidential race set for November 4.
They highlight Mr. Agyapong’s steadfast dedication to guiding the governing party to secure victory in the 2024 general election.
During the ballot on Wednesday (September 13, 2023), the Assin Central MP secured the Number 1 slot. A spokesperson for the Kennedy Agyapong Campaign Team in the Ashanti Region, Lawyer William Kusi, confidently predicts a 70 percent win for the legislator.
“He [Kennedy Agyapong] picked the first position for the second time. It speaks volumes about the fact that he is the chosen one. What I see in simple terms is acceptance and approval. He is the people’s choice, and nothing will change that”, Kusi said.
“And so, the party should allow the process to go on smoothly and democratically because obviously we conduct a fair election, he will have more than 70 per cent. The signal is that the other candidates should just support his candidature”, he said.
The campaign to secure delegates’ endorsement for Mr. Agyapong’s candidacy is gaining momentum in the ruling party’s stronghold, marked by the launch of the ‘Showdown- Ken for Power Campaign’ in Suame.
Nana Boadu, the chairman of the group, stated, “We believe Ken Agyapong can rescue this country, and we fully support this vision. As executives, we are committed to mobilizing the delegates to vote for him. We are dedicating our resources to assist Mr. Agyapong in winning this election, and we anticipate victory.”
In the race for the NPP presidential candidacy, the Assin Central MP faces competition from Vice President Dr. Bawumia, former Agric Minister Dr. Afriyie Akoto, and former MP for Mampong Addai-Nimoh.

According to the NHS, botulism is a serious and rare condition that can be life-threatening. It is caused by toxins made by bacteria. These toxins usually develop when food is not preserved correctly.
These harmful substances can damage the nervous system and lead to paralysis. This can then move to the muscles that help us breathe.
It takes some time for this illness to show symptoms, which can be as short as a few hours or as long as a few days. If it’s not treated correctly, it can cause death in 5 to 10% of cases.

Minority demands COCOBOD CEO’s immediate resignation for cocoa sector mismanagement
The Minority in Parliament has strongly called for the immediate resignation of Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD). They allege mismanagement of the cocoa sector and a decline in the welfare of cocoa farmers.
They argue that Aidoo is no longer fit for the position of CEO. Addressing the media in the Ashanti Region, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson voiced apprehensions regarding the cocoa sector’s condition, despite the announcement of a 68 percent increase in the producer price.
“Clearly, something is amiss at COCOBOD because we are seeing the production of cocoa coming down to the lowest in the last fifteen years, and we have also seen them recording massive losses since 2017. Last year, according to their own audit report, we declared a loss of GH¢2.4 billion in one year, and so I don’t see why the CEO should be in office despite these happenings,” citinewsroom.com quoted Ato Forson.
The Minority has accused Aidoo of incompetence and corruption, claiming that he has not implemented necessary reforms to improve the cocoa sector.
Furthermore, the Minority has criticized the government for allegedly offering cocoa farmers a meager increase in the price of a bag of cocoa to GHC1,300.
They argue that cocoa farmers should have received at least GHC2,500 per bag.
Eric Opoku, Deputy Ranking Member on the Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs Committee of Parliament, expressed disappointment with the government’s pricing approach. He emphasized that this season should have allowed cocoa farmers to receive more substantial rewards for their produce and lamented that cocoa farmers are currently receiving insufficient compensation under the existing pricing scheme.

Taliban conducts spectacular welcome ceremony for China’s new ambassador to Afghanistan
The Taliban has accepted and celebrated Zhao Sheng as the new ambassador from China to Afghanistan. The welcome took place at a fancy event at the presidential palace in Kabul on Wednesday.
China is one of a few countries, like Pakistan, Iran, and Russia, that have stayed in Afghanistan with diplomats after the Taliban gained power in 2021.
During a palace ceremony, the Prime Minister of the Taliban, Mohammad Hasan Akhund, shook hands with Zhao and “accepted the proof of the new Chinese Ambassador,” according to the official Twitter account of the Prime Minister’s office.
“The Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate thanked China for appointing Mr. Zhao Sheng as ambassador. He hopes that this appointment will improve the relationship between the two countries and mark the start of a new chapter,” Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid stated.
According to the prime minister’s office, Zhao said that China is a friendly neighbor to Afghanistan and completely respects Afghanistan’s freedom, borders, and ability to make decisions on their own.
Zhao also stated that China doesn’t interfere in Afghanistan’s internal matters and it doesn’t want Afghanistan to become under its control.
The leader of the Taliban said that the relationship between the two countries has been good. He also expressed his hope for making the relationship even stronger. This information was shared by Mujahid.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the ambassador appointment in Afghanistan is a regular practice and is meant to keep improving communication and cooperation between China and Afghanistan.
The government of China has stated that their approach to Afghanistan remains the same and is easy to understand.
China, which is close to Afghanistan and has invested a lot in the area, was careful about the possible security problems caused by the sudden return of the Taliban after the US left the country in August 2021.
After that, Chinese officials have said it is important to work together with Afghanistan and nearby countries on things like fighting terrorism, working together on economic projects, and making sure the region is stable and developing.
In May, China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan promised to make their relationship in security and counterterrorism stronger. They discussed this at a meeting in Islamabad with their foreign ministers.
At the meeting, the Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang said that China values its friendship with Afghanistan and Pakistan a lot.
The three groups agreed to work together on China’s Belt and Road trade and infrastructure program, which involves a lot of China’s money invested in the area.
They also agreed to make the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) longer by including Afghanistan. This move is meant to improve connectivity, boost cross-border trading, and strengthen the economic integration of the three countries in order to achieve sustainable development.
CPEC is a big project called the Belt and Road that costs $60 billion. It connects a region in China called Xinjiang to an important port in Pakistan called Gwadar. They are connected by roads, railways, pipelines, and power plants. -

EC instructs officials to conduct offline voter registration when necessary
The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has instructed its officials to resort to offline voter registration if they encounter challenges with the online registration system during the ongoing Limited Voter Registration exercise.
This directive comes in response to reports of network connectivity issues associated with the online registration system, which caused delays in the registration process at certain centers on Tuesday morning.
The EC had previously clarified that the online registration system was designed to promptly identify instances of double registration at the registration point.
Dr Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Electoral Services at the EC, told the Ghana News Agency Tuesday evening that there were “initial hitches” with the system on the first day.
He said the situation would normalise as the exercise progressed.
“We have asked them (officers) to switch offline if they encounter challenges.
“All those registered offline, the system will review their identities and if their names appear on the multiple list they will not vote,” Dr Quaicoe said.
Dr. Quaicoe reported that the registration process proceeded relatively smoothly, with the exception of rain-related disruptions in many regions of the country.
The registration, as mandated by Article 45 of the 1992 Constitution, is currently taking place at the Commission’s 268 District Offices.
Although the registration was initially scheduled to begin at 0800 hours, there were delays in connecting to the EC’s online registration system at some of the centers monitored by the Ghana News Agency. As a result, the registration process commenced as late as 1000 hours in certain centers.
The registration exercise concluded at 1700 hours and will continue until October 2.

Meet a 13-year-old girl who quit school because she was unable to buy sanitary pad
A 13-year-old class five student at Saint Francis Primary School in Dakompilayiri, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, Savannah Region, has paused her education to engage in farming. She is doing this to raise funds to purchase sanitary pads.
Khadijatu Bawuma resides with her 68-year-old paternal grandmother in Dakompilayiri. In an interview with Myjoyonline.com, she explained that she felt obliged to temporarily halt her schooling to collect money for purchasing an adequate supply of sanitary pads. This decision was driven by her desire to prevent incidents of staining her clothing, which had occurred frequently during her time at school.
“I don’t have anybody to help me financially. At first, it was my grandmother but now, she says she doesn’t have. So, she (grandmother) asks that I use a piece of cloth but I can’t wear it and go to school with it. Because from experience, it will disgrace me again.”
“So, anytime my flow is due, I stay away from school and now, I’m tired of doing that because friends are all aware and some even gave me names. But once I’m here on the farm with my grandmother, our focus is to get money to enable me to buy enough pads and fend for ourselves,” Khadihatu Bawumah said.

The grandmother, Felicia Bawumah claimed that the teenager’s biological mother abandoned her at the age of four and walked out of her marriage.
She added that Khadijatu’s father, after his wife’s action, also went down south, and has not returned after nine years.
“See how weak I am with this young one. What else can I do; I don’t have a husband. I’m a widow and my children are not here too. So, she is here with me on the farm because she started having her monthly flow and said she wouldn’t wear clothes. But me too I can’t afford the pads. And it’s always like this every month but this time around, she wouldn’t go back,” the grandmother indicated.
During weeding on a two-acre maize farmland, our news crew spotted Khadijatu Bawumah.
Felicia appealed to anyone who can help to come to her grandchild’s rescue.
“If we get help from anywhere for her, I’ll be very happy because I need her to be better than me tomorrow,” Felicia added.
Little Khadijatu Bawumah told MyJoyOnline about her dream of becoming a professional nurse or a teacher because she loves the two professions.

Upon hearing of the teenager’s plight from our news team, the chief of Dakompilayiri and Kunkuya, Eku-Ewilawura Amos Seidu, visited the farm and donated an undisclosed amount of money to Khadijatu through her grandmother.
“She needs to get back to school. At least, she can buy sanitary pads that might last for two months or so.
I’ll also try and visit you anytime I come to the community, but use the money very well,” he said.
The retired educationist also donated a beehive cage and enrolled Khadija and her grandmother in bee-keeping training to help them establish a business and earn more money.
Several young girls in that enclave live under similar conditions and are forced to drop out of school and marry young.

Sammy Gyamfi exposes NPP over cocoa pension fund
NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, successfully defended his assertion that former President John Dramani Mahama established a pension fund for cocoa farmers.
This came during a discussion on Accra’s Asempa FM when he was challenged by presidential staffer Dennis Miracles Aboagye, who initially disputed Sammy’s claim. The debate revolved around the recent cocoa price increase announced by the government.
“If Sammy Gyamfi prove where John Dramani Mahama in an Auditor-General’s report left money for cocoa pensions, I am challenging him that I will buy airtime for us to stay in this studio till he provides the evidence to that effect.
“If he doesn’t provide the year the 25 million dollars was made available, I am willing to pay for the airtime when your show is over, for us to remain here till he does so,” he stated on the September 12 edition of the Ekosii Sen programme.
Even after he offered to buy airtime, the programme ended.
Following this, Sammy Gyamfi presented evidence in a social media post, referencing the 2020 Auditor-General’s report, which earmarked the mentioned amount.
According to reports, the report confirmed the availability of the funds as of 2016.
Excerpts from the report read: “1246. In contrast to the aforementioned section, we observed the following;”
i. The Board did not establish a contributory insurance scheme for cocoa, coffee and shea nuts farmers since the law came into force over 38 years ago.
ii. The Board of Directors did not provide any regulation as evidence to give full implementation of the Social Security Scheme for the farmers.
1247. Our further review of the Account ledgers disclosed that, the Board has set aside from profit a total of GH¢28,898,676.88 in prior periods to meet the requirement of section 26 of the PNDCL 265 however, Management has not invested the amount in any Trust. A seven (7) years analysis of the funds set aside is detailed in table 132.
When asked how much it was, COCOBOD CEO Joseph Boahen Aidoo responded that the book entry used to create the entry in question was made in 2011, when John Mahama was a vice president.
He explained: “it is one thing to create a ledger with the view to put money in it and another thing to create a fund. If I heard Miracles very well, he meant there is no fund, and truly, there is no fund.
He continued by saying that despite the announcement, the current plan to set aside 74 million cedis into a fund does not immediately make that sum available.
“There is no money in the cocoa farmers’ pension trust created by Mahama and the NDC for farmers’ pension. In which account did Mahama pay the seed capital of GHC28m for the farmers’ pension into? NDC should show us and when?”

On September 13, 2023, he told reporters outside of Parliament that he was extremely pleased with the processes so far.
“I have told you that I don’t want to speak on it. They’ve not even started yet (receiving evidence). I told you I don’t want to make any comment on this issue… I will insist on it that I am not going to make any comment on this issue,” he tried to rebuff journalists.
Pressed on how comfortable he was with the process so far, he replied: “Very very happy, very very,” before adding that the committee should “expect solid evidence from me, everything is ready.

The Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abanga Yakubu Alhassan, will oversee the party’s affairs for the next six days due to the absence of the substantive Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who is currently in India.
This announcement was made by the party’s Director of Communication, Kakra Essamuah, on Wednesday evening in a press statement

Before his trip, Asiedu Nketiah’s last official engagement was a press conference on Monday, where he expressed concerns about issues related to the ongoing limited voters’ registration conducted by the Electoral Commission. He raised suspicions of device malfunctions in NDC strongholds, suggesting possible attempts by the Commission to undermine the NDC’s prospects in the 2024 general election. He warned that the party would resist any efforts by the EC to compromise the transparency and credibility of the 2024 polls.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission commenced the registration exercise on Tuesday at its district offices nationwide, despite a pending interlocutory injunction filed by the NDC and four other minority parties.

The 21-day registration period will be open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily, including weekends, and is scheduled to conclude on October 2, 2023.

While figures like Ebony’s father, Nana Opoku Kwarteng, have alleged that Bullet’s ‘negligence’ played a role in Ebony’s passing, others have gone as far as suggesting he may have sacrificed her.

US and Canada must collaborate to combat Chinese interference – MP
A Canadian politician recently spoke to US lawmakers and called for the US and Canada to work together to stop foreign interference from China.
China supposedly targeted Michael Chong because he criticized their record on human rights.
He was asked to talk about his personal experience in front of a committee in the US Congress that oversees China.
He said that what Beijing is doing puts Canada in serious danger.
Mr Chong explained to the bipartisan committee on Monday that his experience is just one example of how Beijing is meddling in Canada. A lot of times, people don’t notice or tell about other cases, and the people who are hurt have to keep it a secret and suffer alone.
This year, Canada said that China tried to spread false information about Mr. Chong on WeChat.
Mr Chong said that he found out from Canadian intelligence that Beijing has been collecting information about him and his relatives in Hong Kong for the past three years. In 2021, Mr. Chong suggested in the government meeting that China’s treatment of its Uyghur minority population is considered a genocide.
China has said many times that they are not trying to scare or control Mr. Chong or get involved in Canadian matters. The Chinese embassy in Canada said that Mr. Chong criticized China for his own political reasons.
“The Chinese embassy spokesperson said that a lie is always a lie, whether it is in Canada or in the United States,” according to an email.
In his statement, the Conservative politician explained how China has been involved in his country in different ways.
He said that Chinese international students in Canadian universities are being forced by Beijing to spy on other students and activists who are considered unfriendly to the Communist Party of China.
He also mentioned the problem of Beijing-controlled “police stations” in Canada that are said to have forced some Chinese citizens to return to China.

Tory MP Ellwood resigns from his Commons position over Afghanistan controversy
Conservative Member of Parliament Tobias Ellwood has stepped down from his role as the chair of a committee in the House of Commons. This decision came after he faced backlash for his remarks about Afghanistan.
In July, the ex-defense minister received negative comments for saying that the country had changed a lot during the Taliban’s time in power.
He was at risk of losing a vote of confidence from his fellow Conservative members of parliament on the defense select committee.
But people who know say that he has now quit his position, according to information received by the BBC.
Someone who knows about what happened said that he quit his job before he could be forced to leave.
Mr Ellwood first supported his statements, stating that the country’s stability was significantly higher compared to times of conflict.
However, he later said sorry because he made a mistake with his comments. He posted them on social media while he was in Helmand province.
