We’re doing well – Wode Maya’s wife sets the record straight amid divorce rumors

Following a wave of criticism directed at her husband, Miss Trudy has addressed the backlash on her YouTube channel.

The controversy arose after she discussed in a podcast with Konnected Minds that her husband, Wode Maya, no longer wished for them to travel together as frequently, a change that she found deeply distressing.

In the podcast, Miss Trudy shared her feelings of heartbreak over the change in their travel routine.

She expressed how the decision made her question their relationship and her role in Maya’s life, leading to significant emotional turmoil.

“We used to travel together all the time; life was amazing. We did that for many years. Then one day, Maya sat me down and told me that he can’t be travelling with me everywhere. I was shattered; I felt like my heart was broken. I cried and cried.

“I asked him why; I asked whether he didn’t love me anymore. I thought it was me and him against the world. I asked whether I was a burden to him. He has given me direction in life, and I felt like if he is no longer in my life, I’d feel so lost.”

In response to the public outcry and attacks on Wode Maya, Miss Trudy clarified her statements and the situation in a recent video.

She explained that the intense online reactions were unexpected and that she was surprised by the level of backlash.

“I have been receiving phone calls from people who have been asking me what is really happening between me and Maya. The truth is that everything happening on the internet has actually caught me by surprise because I did not see it coming. I honestly did not see it coming. I am just in shock.

“I did an interview, and we talked about so many things. I was only trying to be honest about what was happening in my life. He asked me a couple of questions, and I answered truthfully. He asked whether we spend enough time together, and I said no, because that’s the truth. But people took this out of context. He asked how I was doing, and I said I was depressed. We all get depressed, don’t we? I was only trying to portray that my life isn’t perfect.”

Miss Trudy emphasized that her intention was simply to be transparent about her experiences and emotions.

She had been honest about feeling depressed and the changes in their travel habits, but these comments were taken out of context and exaggerated.

She reassured viewers that Wode Maya is not a bad person, despite the online hostility.

“I don’t want my honesty to be the reason why Wode is seen as wicked. Now Maya is being attacked online. He is being attacked, left, right, center, forward. I know you guys care for me a lot, but Maya isn’t an evil person,” she emphasised.

She stressed that the attacks on him were disproportionate and that their marriage is not in crisis as some have speculated.

Miss Trudy conveyed that while they are facing challenges, their relationship remains intact and they are not contemplating divorce.

  • COCOBOD’s crop loan request rejected by international banks – Minority

COCOBOD’s crop loan request rejected by international banks – Minority

The Minority in Parliament has expressed serious concerns regarding COCOBOD’s financial stability, following reports that international banks have declined to approve a loan requested by the organization for the 2024/2025 cocoa season.

The opposition argued that the refusal to grant this loan is a troubling sign of diminishing confidence in COCOBOD’s management.

They believe this situation underscores ongoing issues with financial mismanagement and poor decision-making that have plagued COCOBOD in recent years.

Traditionally, COCOBOD has relied on offshore syndicated loans to fund the purchase of cocoa beans.

The latest rejection by international banks suggests a significant erosion of trust in COCOBOD’s financial stewardship.

In response, COCOBOD’s Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, has announced that for the first time in three decades, the organization will not be able to secure offshore syndicated loans for cocoa procurement.

Instead, COCOBOD plans to use its own resources to finance the purchase of approximately 650,000 metric tonnes of cocoa for the upcoming season.

The Minority has raised alarms that this development could severely impact the cocoa industry, a vital sector for Ghana’s economy.

They caution that without adequate funding, COCOBOD may struggle to meet its purchasing targets, potentially harming cocoa farmers and the broader economic landscape.

The Minority has called for urgent government intervention to address the underlying issues contributing to this loss of confidence.

They advocate for a review of COCOBOD’s management practices and the implementation of corrective measures to restore the organization’s credibility with international financial institutions, ensuring the stability and strength of the cocoa sector.

The statement highlights that, for the first time in 32 years, COCOBOD’s request for a $1.5 billion prepayment loan to purchase cocoa did not attract any interest from international banks.

This failure is attributed to COCOBOD’s deteriorating financial health and the overall decline of the cocoa sector under the current administration.

The statement also points to a dramatic drop in cocoa production from 969,000 metric tonnes in the 2016/2017 crop year, inherited from the previous administration, to just over 400,000 metric tonnes for the 2023/2024 season.

This significant reduction in production, combined with mismanagement, has affected COCOBOD’s ability to fulfill its contractual obligations.

“For the first time in 32 years, International Banks have rejected Ghana Cocoa Board’s (COCOBOD) request for a prepayment loan to finance the purchase of cocoa.”

“In June 2024, COCOBOD issued a Request for Proposal of $1.5 billion loan to purchase up to 650,000 metric tonnes of cocoa for the 2024/2025 crop year. But this request did not attract any interest from the international banks due to the poor health of COCOBOD and the collapse of the cocoa sector under its present management.

“From a production level of 969,000 metric tonnes inherited from the NDC in the 2016/2017 crop year, cocoa production has declined to just a little over 400,000 metric tonnes for the 2023/2024 cocoa season. The significant decline in cocoa production in the last eight years and the mismanagement of the cocoa sector have impacted COCOBOD’s ability to meet its contractual obligations,” an excerpt of the statement said.

Stay away from promiscuity, be focused – Prince David Osei to young men

Actor Prince David Osei has urged young people, particularly young men, to avoid promiscuity and direct their focus toward achieving their goals and dreams.

He believes that many promising futures have been derailed by a lifestyle centered around casual sex and urges men to resist these temptations.

Osei conveyed his message on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a photo with a U.S. government official and commenting, “The same vagina that can birth a man can also destroy a man. Don’t fall into foolish traps! Stay focused. Good morning.”

The actor’s post elicited mixed reactions online.

While some praised his advice, others speculated that it might be a strategic move to shift attention from his recent controversial endorsement of Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections.

Osei had previously faced criticism for urging Ghanaians to support Bawumia, asserting that such a vote would lead to a better future for Ghana.

NDC has no legacy in governance, unlike the NPP, which does – Kaakyire Kwame Appiah

Highlife musician Kaakyire Kwame Appiah has asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) consistently leaves a significant legacy when in power, unlike the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a recent interview on Property FM in Cape Coast, Appiah stated, “Whenever NPP comes into government they try to leave behind a trademark or legacy which most of us can mention, unlike the NDC.

“When President Kufour came, he left behind the National Health Insurance, among others but under President Mills, there’s no trademark to show for his tenure although he did his best.”

He highlighted the achievements of past NPP administrations, such as the introduction of the National Health Insurance scheme under President Kufuor. In contrast, he felt President Mills’ tenure lacked a defining legacy, despite his efforts.

Appiah was particularly critical of the Mahama administration, describing it as lacking notable accomplishments or lasting impacts.

“There is nothing to show under the presidency of Mahama which has become a legacy or trademark but even despite the criticisms at Akufo-Addo he’s been able to do Free SHS which is a trademark.

“And so if we consider these two political parties the one who always leaves behind a trademark or legacy is the one that we ought to allow to continue governing this country to do more for us,” he justified.

He praised President Akufo-Addo for implementing Free SHS, which he views as a significant and lasting achievement.

Appiah concluded that based on these observations, the party that consistently delivers a tangible legacy should be given the opportunity to continue leading the country for the benefit of its people.

No one accompanied me except for Uncle Ebo Whyte during my vetting – Okraku-Mantey

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, recently expressed his deep admiration for the celebrated Ghanaian playwright, Uncle Ebo Whyte.

In an interview with GhanaWeb TV for the documentary “The Uncle Ebo Whyte Story: A Legacy of Inspiration & Creativity,” Okraku-Mantey recounted how Whyte offered him invaluable support during his vetting process for the deputy minister position in 2021.

Okraku-Mantey shared that many notable figures in the creative arts sector hesitated to accompany him to the vetting, fearing political associations.

However, Uncle Ebo Whyte prioritized their personal bond over potential political implications and chose to stand by him.

“When I went for my vetting, I had called a number of people to accompany me, most of them rejected because they didn’t want any affiliation with politics.

“But Uncle Ebo was there for me, he didn’t look at the political side, he looked at the relationship he had with me and sacrificed whatever and went with me,” he said.

The Deputy Minister highlighted the significant impact Whyte’s presence had on the atmosphere during the vetting.

He recalled that mentioning Whyte’s name immediately shifted the room’s mood, as many present recognized the playwright’s influence and were eager to engage with him.

“When I was asked a question about theatre and I mentioned that Uncle Ebo was right behind me, the whole mood in the room changed.

“They were asking, ‘Oh, is Uncle Ebo here? Where is he? Oh, how come can’t make him out?’ Some of them wanted to connect and network and all of that,” he noted.

Okraku-Mantey praised Uncle Ebo Whyte as a remarkable figure in Ghanaian theatre, acknowledging the extensive contributions he has made through his over 50 plays, which explore themes of family, relationships, faith, and addiction.

Whyte’s legacy, according to Okraku-Mantey, is a powerful example of the strength of personal connections and steadfast support.

  • “I don’t like throwing money at fans, it’s disrespectful” – Stonebwoy

“I don’t like throwing money at fans, it’s disrespectful” – Stonebwoy

Stonebwoy, the acclaimed Reggae Dancehall artist, has explained why he chooses not to throw money at his fans during performances.

He shared that while tossing cash into the crowd may appear generous, it often fails to achieve its intended purpose.

This method can result in uneven distribution, with some fans receiving more money than others.

Furthermore, the rush to grab the money can lead to injuries, undermining the gesture’s goodwill.

Stonebwoy emphasized that he prefers to distribute money directly to individuals when the timing is appropriate, rather than throwing it into the crowd.

“I don’t like throwing money at fans, but we are Ghanaians, so sometimes our perspectives differ. I think it’s disrespectful. If I throw money into the crowd, one person could get more than the others. So, I prefer giving it to people individually when the time is right rather than throwing it. Even then, many people suffer casualties that we don’t hear about.

“As we throw money from a convoy, people get injured all the time. People accuse me of not throwing money, but it’s for these reasons. So, I time it and give the money at the right moment. It’s good to throw money at fans, but it doesn’t really fulfill the purpose of giving,” he said in Twi in a video shared on Instagram by aba.the.great.

He believes that tossing money can be disrespectful and potentially harmful, as it can cause accidents and create disparities among fans.

He acknowledged that some may criticize him for not adopting the more flamboyant approach of throwing money but defended his choice by highlighting the potential for injury and inequality.

Stonebwoy’s approach aims to ensure that his contributions are more considerate and impactful.

Currently, Stonebwoy is the reigning Artiste of the Year at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, a title he has won twice.

You’ll leave office with sickness if you try to rig this election – Opambour warns EC

Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa, widely known as Opambour, the founder of Ebenezer Miracle Worship Center, has issued a grave warning to the officials of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) regarding the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Opambour stressed the necessity for impartiality and transparency in the EC’s operations to ensure that the election outcome truly reflects the will of the people.

During a broadcast on Prophet 1 TV, Opambour urged the EC to honor the true intentions of the electorate and avoid any misconduct.

He emphasized that any actions contrary to this could lead to significant repercussions, asserting that divine attention will be on their actions.

Opambour, a strong advocate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidate John Dramani Mahama, believes Mahama represents the best choice for Ghana, particularly in light of the challenges faced under the current administration.

The elections are set to take place on December 7, 2024.

Contrary to some reports, Amoah clarified that only one female fan was injured, not two as previously claimed.

The non-student victim was promptly taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition.

In an August 20, 2024 interview with Peace FM, Amoah mentioned that the SRC is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the electrocution.

He assured that measures are being taken to address and rectify any technical issues that contributed to the incident. The investigation is currently underway.

“It was one female fan who was electrocuted, but we took her to the hospital, and she is now recovering well. Our president has initiated measures to investigate the technical issues that led to the electrocution and resolve them. The probe is ongoing,” he told Kwasi Aboagye during the interview.

Ghanaian comic actor Don Little recently shared insights into the early challenges faced by his colleague, Dr Likee, during the beginning of his acting career.

At the time, Dr Likee, then known as Ras Nene, encountered significant skepticism and discrimination within the industry.

Don Little recalled that in the early days of YouTube content creation in Ghana, he and fellow actor Nana Yeboah were key figures on the “Ghana We Dey” channel.

When Dr Likee joined the team, his comedic abilities were met with doubt, leading to hesitations from other team members, which caused delays in production.

“There was a director nicknamed 925, a lady named Sadat, and another individual who managed the YouTube channel, Ghana We Dey. Nana Yeboah and I were the main creators on that platform. When Dr Likee joined, it stirred up some issues. Many didn’t believe in his comedic talent and refused to work with him,” Don Little explained in a video shared by EdHud on X.

Despite the initial resistance, Nana Yeboah played a pivotal role in supporting Dr Likee, even offering to split his own pay to keep him on board.

This act of kindness strengthened the bond between the two, leading Don Little to step back from the channel to allow them to collaborate more effectively.

“Sadat even reached out to me, concerned that I had left out of resentment. But I clarified that I stepped aside because Dr Likee and Nana Yeboah made a stronger team together,” Don Little added.

He also revealed that it was Sadat who coined the name “Dr Likee,” and he commended Dr Likee’s determination and hard work, which have contributed significantly to his success in the industry today.

Kwabena Kwabena’s single ‘Fakye Me’ is not a gospel song – Nii Ayite Hammond

Nii Ayite Hammond, Channel Manager for Hope TV, has asserted that Kwabena Kwabena‘s recent single featuring Obaapa Christy, titled ‘Fakye Me,’ should not be classified as a gospel song, despite common belief.

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s ‘Showbiz A-Z,’ Hammond argued that the song’s theme of forgiveness and its collaboration with a gospel artist do not necessarily define it as gospel music.

Hammond explained that gospel music is primarily centered around the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

He emphasized that simply mentioning God in a song does not automatically categorize it as gospel, noting that various deities are worshipped by different people.

He questioned the song’s true intent, asking, “When he mentions ‘ode bone kye,’ is he referring to his wife forgiving him, or something else?”

Hammond also cited other songs, such as Mama Esther’s ‘Kyekyere No’ and Sonnie Badu’s ‘Money Declaration,’ as examples of music he believes does not fit the gospel genre.

Hammond, a former Chairman of the Ghana Music Awards Board, further elaborated that the identity of the artist behind a song plays a crucial role in its classification.

He cited King Paluta’s ‘Aseda’ as a case in point, expressing uncertainty about whether the song’s gratitude is directed towards the same God he worships, given Paluta’s secular background.

In contrast, gospel musician Akesse Brempong argued that God can use anyone, including unlikely sources, to convey His message.

Brempong pointed out that even stones could be used to praise God if needed, reinforcing his belief that inspiration and praise can come from various places.

The debate over the definition of gospel music continues to be a point of contention among music industry professionals.

Some distinguish between gospel music, which they define as focusing specifically on Jesus Christ and His teachings, and Christian music, which they view as encompassing broader aspects of the Christian faith.

Kwabena Kwabena’s ‘Fakye Me,’ which is part of his forthcoming gospel EP titled ‘God of Restoration,’ remains a subject of this ongoing discussion.

It is wrong for Christians to sing secular songs – Lenny Akpadie

During a recent interview on Joy Prime with Roselyn Felli, veteran Ghanaian gospel artist Apostle Lenny Akpadie expressed strong views against Christians performing secular music.

He argued that because Jesus is the focal point of Christianity, any deviation from this central focus is incompatible with Christian values.

When asked if singing secular music indicates a departure from Christian principles, Apostle Akpadie firmly replied that it signifies a significant departure.

“Those gospel musicians missed it. You can’t write me a song; where is the Holy Spirit. You see, it’s a defilement. The Holy Ghost is our teacher, and I receive songs from the Holy Ghost,” he told Roselyn Felli on Tuesday.

He referenced the biblical notion that light and darkness do not mix, underscoring his belief that such actions contradict God’s standards.

Apostle Akpadie also criticized gospel musicians who collaborate with secular artists or accept their songwriting contributions.

He argued that secular musicians lack the spiritual insight needed to create genuinely spirit-filled gospel songs. According to him, relying on the Holy Spirit for inspiration is crucial, and thus he would never accept songs from secular composers.

He emphasized the importance of the gospel artist’s personal connection with the Holy Spirit, suggesting that any external influence in songwriting is a form of defilement.

For him, the authenticity of the message is deeply tied to the messenger’s spiritual integrity.

Notably, some secular musicians, like Kuami Eugene and Kwabena Kwabena, have previously written songs for gospel artists, a practice Apostle Akpadie believes undermines the spiritual essence of gospel music.

“I would say that wearing a cap is part of me to the extent that I feel incomplete if I should dress without putting on a cap or if I have to walk around without it,” Dr Cryme confessed in an interview with Property FM.

He explained that it’s rare to see him without a cap, and if he is ever without one, it’s likely because he has given it away as a gift.

Reflecting on the experience, Ayitey Powers expressed his astonishment and sorrow, saying, “It’s hard to grasp how Prophet TB Joshua could pass away at his age, especially after he reached out to me for a visit. He mentioned he wouldn’t celebrate his birthday, but we didn’t anticipate his death. We had many discussions that I now wish I could revisit. His death has left a deeper void for me than the loss of my parents.”

IMF hints at reinstating 15% VAT on electricity as inflation falls

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has indicated that the government may consider reinstating the 15 percent value-added tax (VAT) on electricity if inflation rates continue to decline.

The IMF’s July 2024 Country Staff Report suggests that reintroducing the VAT is a potential course of action as inflationary pressures decrease.

With recent data from the Ghana Statistical Service showing a drop in annual inflation to 20.9 percent in July, down from 22.8 percent in June, the government may reconsider the VAT policy.

“On the revenue side, implementation of VAT on residential electricity (expected yield 0.17 percent of GDP) was suspended due to strong social resistance. The authorities are committed to implementing this measure when the inflation dynamics are more conducive,” the IMF said on page 10 of the report.

Originally, the government had postponed the VAT on electricity due to significant public opposition, particularly from residential users concerned about the added financial burden.

This tax was initially part of broader revenue measures implemented as part of the IMF-supported recovery plan following the COVID-19 pandemic.

A directive from the Ministry of Finance, dated January 1, 2024, and signed by former minister Ken Ofori-Atta, instructed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) to impose the VAT on residential consumers who surpassed a specified consumption threshold.

“On behalf of the Government, Ministry of Finance would like to inform ECG and NEDCO to suspend the implementation of the VAT directive pending further engagement with key stakeholders, including Organised Labour.

“The Ministry expects that these engagements will birth innovative, robust, and inclusive approaches to bridging the existing fiscal gap, while bolstering economic resilience.”

However, on February 7, 2024, the government halted the VAT implementation following a threat of nationwide protests from Organised Labour, who had planned demonstrations for February 13, 2024, if the tax was not retracted.

Drought worsens in Northern Ghana after 2 months of no rain; GIDA calls for innovative irrigation solutions

Farmers in five northern regions are currently bemoaning the impact of an ongoing drought, which has been exacerbated by over two months of no rain.

The Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) revealed the expense for developing an irrigation system for one hectare of farmland which is approximately $40,000.

Acting CEO of GIDA, Ing. Richard Oppong-Boateng shared this information during an engagement with the media.

He emphasized that expanding and enhancing irrigation schemes is a crucial strategy to combat the severe drought affecting parts of northern Ghana, which has persisted for over two months with little to no rainfall.

Currently, the amount of land under irrigation is significantly below the potential 1.9 million hectares that could be irrigated.

Ing. Oppong-Boateng noted that GIDA is working on several projects to increase the country’s irrigable land.

“According to regulations, we must identify suitable water sources for irrigation. To date, we have identified about 19,000 hectares of potential irrigable land. Including private irrigation projects, we have covered approximately 220,000 hectares, which is just about 12 percent of the total potential,” he explained.

He added that GIDA is actively rehabilitating existing irrigation systems and is working on expanding coverage to around 5,000 hectares this year.

If progress continues at this rate, it is projected that by the next 5 to 10 years, the irrigated land could increase to approximately 700,000 hectares.

GIDA is a Government Organization responsible for development and construction of small-scale irrigation schemes for farmers in Ghana.

It has an operational department that organizes farmers to produce crops sensibly under irrigation for export and local markets.

At a press conference on Monday August 19, the EC’s Deputy Chairman for Corporate Services, Dr. Bossman Asare assured that the commission is adhering to its schedule.

“We have heard in sections of the media that the commission has not given the provisional voter register to the political parties after informing the parties to bring their external drives. • Akufo-Addo orders GHC200m compensation for Jomoro landowners amid growing backlash over land acquisition

Akufo-Addo orders GHC200m compensation for Jomoro landowners amid growing backlash over land acquisition

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed the Ministry of Finance to disburse GH¢200 million as compensation to communities impacted by the initial phase of the Jomoro Petroleum Hub Development project.

This is because some landowners, particularly those represented by the Coalition of Concerned Nzema People, have expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s approach to land acquisition, citing issues of inadequate compensation and procedural lapses.

The project, which is estimated to sit on twenty thousand acres of land on several communities in the Jomoro District, will have three refineries, five petrochemical plants, storage tanks, jetties and port infrastructure.

It seeks to be the leading integrated petroleum and petrochemical complex to add value to the upstream and downstream oil and gas value chain in Africa.

It will also have ancillary infrastructure for transportation, settlement and utilities among others.

This follows the signing of a twelve-billion-dollar agreement between the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, PHDC and the TCP-UIC Consortium in Accra.

This directive was announced at the sod-cutting ceremony in Nawuli, within the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region on August 2024.

The President highlighted the strategic importance of the Jomoro Petroleum Hub in addressing challenges within Ghana’s energy sector.

He envisions the hub as a leading integrated petroleum complex in Africa, enhancing the oil and gas value chain from both upstream and downstream perspectives.

It is poised to revolutionize the petrochemical industry across the continent, with projections indicating that it could generate $1.56 billion in export taxes by 2030, boost Ghana’s GDP by 70%, and create over 780,000 jobs.

In response, President Akufo-Addo reassured the affected communities of the government’s commitment to addressing their concerns, stating that the initial GH¢200 million compensation is a step towards resolving these issues.

“The chiefs and people of Jomoro have generously offered their lands for the development of these vital projects. In recognition of their contribution, I have instructed the Ministry of Finance to release an initial GH¢200 million to commence the payment of compensation for the affected lands,” he stated.

Mind your business, stay away from LGBTQI+ issues – Transgender tells Ohemaa Mercy

Ghanaian transgender and LGBTQ+ rights advocate Angel Maxine has taken to social media to respond sharply to recent comments made by gospel artist Ohemaa Mercy.

During a TV3 interview, Ohemaa Mercy urged Ghanaian leaders to reject homosexuality, claiming that it is condemned by God and warning that its acceptance could spell disaster for the nation.

Angel Maxine criticized Ohemaa Mercy’s views, accusing her of being both uninformed and influenced by colonialist attitudes.

In her social media post, Maxine advised Ohemaa Mercy to focus on her music and refrain from commenting on LGBTQ+ issues.

“Ohemaa Mercy, you’re a combination of illiteracy and colonized mentality! Please concentrate on your music and stay away from LGBTQI+ issues. Thank you.”

This exchange comes at a time of heightened debate over LGBTQ+ rights in Ghana, especially with the contentious Anti-LGBT+ Bill currently under consideration in parliament.

The proposed legislation would impose prison sentences ranging from six months to three years for individuals engaged in LGBTQ+ activities, while those who promote or support such acts could face three to five years in prison.

Bedbugs await freshers – Prof Smart mocks Mahama’s free tertiary policy

Professor Smart Sarpong discussed the effectiveness of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)‘s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

In an interview on Peace FM, Professor Smart highlighted the policy’s positive impact on underprivileged youth, noting that it has significantly benefited those who are financially disadvantaged.

He praised the Free SHS policy for providing opportunities to students who might otherwise be unable to afford secondary education.

However, when comparing it to former President Mahama’s free tertiary education policy, Professor Smart expressed skepticism.

He suggested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) might be advocating for this policy out of political desperation.
Although he acknowledged that the idea of free tertiary education is commendable, he questioned the feasibility of implementing such a policy given the current economic challenges and concerns about funding.

Professor Smart called for broader consultation and thorough planning.

He humorously remarked that while the concept of free tertiary education is good, the practicalities of accommodating a large influx of students could lead to significant issues, such as overcrowded conditions in institutions.

“The Free tertiary is a good one. I am imagining the number of students who will storm the Tertiary, bedbugs awaits them,” he mocked.

“We live to see” – Osman on Mahama’s ‘No-fees policy’ for freshers

Fahd Osman, a member of the National Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has highlighted several policies outlined by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 manifesto.

These include the e-visa policy for all international visitors to Ghana, designed to make visa acquisition faster and more convenient, and the Travel Protocol Service (TPS), which aims to facilitate international performances and shows for artists, among other initiatives.

Osman Fahd believes that Bawumia’s proposed policies are more feasible than former President John Mahama’s Free Tertiary education plan.

He suggests that Mahama’s Free Tertiary policy is a response to the success of the NPP’s Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

According to Osman Fahd, Mahama’s previous opposition to the Free SHS policy makes it noteworthy to see whether he will successfully implement the Free Tertiary policy.

“We look forward to seeing former President John Mahama fulfill his Free Tertiary policy, especially given his strong opposition to the Free SHS policy,” Osman Fahd stated.

‘Juju’ is everywhere, don’t tarnish our image – Kumawood actress fires Portia Asare

Kumawood actress Elorm Aba has criticized her colleague, Portia Asare, for attributing the decline of the movie industry to spiritual sabotage by certain individuals.

Aba dismissed Portia’s claims, arguing that the practice of ‘juju’, a term for spiritual interference is common across all professions, not just in the film industry.

She expressed concern that Portia’s comments could harm Kumawood’s reputation and undermine the industry’s integrity.

Aba suggested that if Portia, as a Christian, finds it difficult to cope with these challenges, she should consider leaving the acting profession.

She pointed out that making such statements publicly only serves to tarnish the image of Kumawood.

“Juju is everywhere, in every profession. If she can’t handle it, she should stop working. We recently heard about Dr. Likee’s situation; does that mean he’ll quit? It depends on the individual. But talking about it openly damages our industry’s reputation,” Aba said in a video posted by Marigyata on Instagram on August 19, 2024.

Portia had previously claimed in an interview with Ahodwo TV that internal conflicts, hatred, and spiritual sabotage were key factors behind the decline of Kumawood.

She emphasized that a lack of unity among actors had contributed to the decrease in both the production and quality of films in the industry.

He believes that the portrayal of hardship is exaggerated and not reflective of the true situation on the ground.

Speaking on Fox FM during the NPP manifesto launch, Acheampong challenged the notion of hardship by encouraging doubters to visit pubs and lounges at night, where, according to him, the vibrant social life of Ghanaian youth proves otherwise.

He acknowledged that the post-COVID recovery has been challenging but emphasized that these difficulties are part of a global trend, not unique to Ghana.

“The claims of hardship in Ghana is cosmetic and a figment of their imagination. If you think there is hardship in Ghana, visit pubs and lounges at night and you’ll see how Ghanaian youth are chilling at night.
