    I’m just like a presidential aspirant, I’ll attempt a sing-a-thon again – Afua Asantewaa

Ghanaian aiming to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) Afua Asantewaa, for the longest singing marathon, has announced her intention to try again. Despite not succeeding in her initial attempt, she has been contemplating a second try and has now decided to proceed with it.

Drawing parallels to presidential candidates who persist despite setbacks, Afua explained in an interview with GhOne TV that she has gained valuable insights from her previous experience and is determined to honor Ghana.

“Reflecting on my past attempt, I believe it’s like the Black Stars participating in a World Cup or a presidential candidate running for office. They keep trying even if they don’t win initially. My unsuccessful attempt doesn’t mean I should give up,” she stated.

Afua noted that her first attempt in December 2023 was rushed with only two weeks of preparation. This time, she plans to utilize several months to prepare thoroughly to ensure success and make Ghana proud, regardless of the outcome.

Her first attempt began on December 24, 2023, where she sang for 126 hours and 52 minutes at Akwaaba Village in Accra, attracting thousands of supporters. The event saw attendance from numerous Ghanaian showbiz personalities, who came to show their support.

However, her attempt was disqualified because the guidelines regarding rest breaks were not followed, according to a statement from Alina Polianskaya, PR Executive for the Guinness World Records. Despite the disqualification, Afua remains inspired and is looking forward to her next attempt.

Dormaahene challenging Ashanti Kingdom has made Otumfuo more proactive – Prophet Azuka

Prophet Isaac Appiah, also known as Prophet Azuka, head of Shining Grace Chapel International, recently commented on the public discord between Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II. He believes that this conflict has had a positive impact on the Asante people.

According to Prophet Azuka, Dormaahene’s criticisms have prompted Otumfuo to approach his duties with greater diligence, benefiting the Ashanti populace. The prophet noted that Otumfuo has started removing subchiefs who have failed to perform their duties properly, thereby reinforcing the kingdom’s authority.

In a video posted by Express GH TV on YouTube, Prophet Azuka remarked on the increased dynamism within the Ashanti Kingdom since Otumfuo’s ascension to the throne.

He stated that Dormaahene’s challenges have led Otumfuo to take decisive actions, such as deposing insubordinate subchiefs and resolving illegal land claims. This, he believes, has enhanced the prestige and effectiveness of Ashanti rule.

Prophet Azuka also mentioned that people now prefer to resolve land disputes at the palace, attributing this change to the influence of Dormaahene’s challenges. He praised the Ashanti Kingdom’s royal heritage and noted that the recent challenges have added to its splendor.

Previously, Dormaahene accused Asantehene of worsening the Sampa chieftaincy dispute through his involvement. He argued that Asantehene’s actions were a direct challenge to the legal system and the traditional authority of Bono chiefs. Dormaahene presented these allegations to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and his delegation during their visit to the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, asserting that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was responsible for the ongoing conflict in Sampa.

‘Ghanaian Muslims went to Mecca to stone satan though they exist in their backyard’ – Comedian Waris

Ghanaian comedian Abdul Waris Umaru, also known as Comedian Waris, has raised concerns about the state of affairs in Ghana.

As many Ghanaian Muslims embark on the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, which includes the ritual of ‘stoning Satan,’ Waris pointed out that the real challenges are within the nation itself.

He highlighted issues such as severe hardship, unemployment, and the high cost of living as urgent matters that need addressing.

Waris shared his thoughts, saying, “They left Ghana for Mecca to go and stone Satan when the real Satans are in the country ruling us. There’s so much hardship, no jobs, things are expensive, places are dirty, potholes, no street lights, no jobs after school, continuous tax on COVID.”

His comments come amidst a period of economic struggle in Ghana, with citizens calling for better governance and improved living conditions.

Hajj is a mandatory religious duty for all adult Muslims who can physically and financially undertake the journey to Mecca at least once in their lifetime. It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, fundamental to a Muslim’s faith and practice.

Taking place from the 8th to the 12th (or 13th) day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar, Hajj involves several rituals.

Pilgrims wear white clothing called ihram, circle the Ka’bah seven times, walk between the hills of Safa and Marwah, drink from the Zamzam well, stand on the plains of Mount Arafat, spend a night in Muzdalifa, and participate in the symbolic stoning of the devil by throwing stones at three pillars.

‘There is no genuine clergyman in Ghana, no healer’ – Obofour

Leader of Anointed Palace Chapel (APC) worldwide Rev. Kwaku Agyei Antwi, widely known as Rev. Obofour has urged Christians to be wary of putting their trust in clergymen. He asserts that most clergy have significant flaws, pointing out that some pastors engage in behaviors such as adultery, which leads to divorce, and others partake in fornication, including having sexual affairs with multiple women simultaneously.

Rev. Obofour argues that these shortcomings reflect a lack of genuine men of God in Ghana, urging people to place their faith in God rather than in pastors. He emphasizes that true focus should be on Christ, who suffered for humanity, rather than on the fallible statements of clergymen. He highlights various misconducts by pastors, including adultery, financial fraud, tax evasion, and using unscrupulous means to acquire property. He underscores that church attendance should be about seeking God, not following a pastor.

In a video shared by Zionfelix on Instagram, Rev. Obofour remarked, “There are no genuine men of God in this country. No pastor is a healer. I would never attack the church, but your focus should be on Jesus, not on what clergymen say. The person deemed genuine has committed adultery and faced divorce. The Bible states if you can’t manage your home, you can’t manage the house of God. While not calling them fake, they have failed.”

“Some pastors defraud people for money, claim to be genuine while engaging in threesomes, evade duties on imported goods, and employ land guards for dubious land acquisitions. Therefore, our attendance at church should be to follow God, not the pastors,” he concluded.

‘I was ‘too handsy’ in the past’ – Kevin Spacey

Renowned American actor in a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Kevin Spacey, acknowledged his past behavior of being overly physical. Addressing the allegations that halted his career in 2017, the 64-year-old admitted to “pushing the boundaries” inappropriately.

Following a trial in London last year where he was found not guilty of sexual assault charges against four men spanning from 2001 to 2013, and the dismissal of a sexual assault lawsuit in the US in 2022, Spacey is currently involved in a civil trial regarding an allegation from 2008, which he denies.

During the interview on the Piers Morgan Uncensored YouTube channel, Spacey elaborated on his understanding of his past actions. He admitted to being “too handsy,” explaining that it involved touching someone in a sexual manner without realizing they did not want it.

When questioned further about the potential criminal nature of such behavior, Spacey stated that he had always tried to be gentle and responsive to others’ cues. However, he did not use the term “grope” to describe his actions, preferring instead to emphasize being considerate and seeking positive responses.

Regarding consent, Spacey noted that communication was crucial, suggesting that if someone did not want his advances, they should express it clearly. He also acknowledged the power dynamics at play, acknowledging that rejection could potentially affect a young actor’s career.

While Spacey expressed readiness to take accountability for his past actions, labeling them as “bad, bad, bad behavior,” he also asserted that numerous accusations against him were false. Referring to recent allegations in the Channel 4 documentary Spacey Unmasked by actors Ruari Cannon and Danny De Lillo, Spacey vehemently denied their claims, calling them “ridiculous” and “completely offensive.”

Despite the controversies, some Hollywood figures, including Sharon Stone, Stephen Fry, and Liam Neeson, have voiced support for Spacey’s return to acting. However, Spacey’s career has seen significant setbacks, including his dismissal from House of Cards and the reshooting of scenes in All the Money in the World following the initial allegations against him.

Team Eternity Ghana accused of copyright infringement, ‘Defe Defe’ song allegedly sampled

Team Eternity Ghana, known for their recent gospel hit “Defe Defe,” is embroiled in a copyright infringement controversy.

Veteran music producer Kwame Mickey has accused the Christian group of unlawfully sampling a song by his artistes, Helleluyah Voices.

The dispute came to light when Mickey expressed his grievances on social media, questioning the originality of “Defe Defe.”

He wrote, “Who is that Defe Defe Singer? If I start right now them go say I am mansonia. What is the difference between the two songs? Somebody tell her to report and do the needful, that’s all.”

Mickey claims that “Defe Defe” closely mirrors a song released by Helleluyah Voices 15 years ago, sharing the same lines, composure, and arrangement, despite featuring different melodies. These allegations have been supported by comparisons that highlight the striking similarities in lyrics and structure between the two songs.

“Defe Defe,” which was released earlier this year, has received considerable acclaim within the gospel music community. However, this scandal casts a shadow over its success, raising serious questions about the song’s originality. Team Eternity has yet to respond to the accusations officially.

Four dead as vehicle hits mourners at Malawi Vice-President’s funeral

A tragic incident occurred during the funeral procession of Malawi’s late Vice-President Saulos Chilima, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including a pregnant woman, and injuring twelve others. Witnesses recounted that as the convoy carrying Mr. Chilima’s body passed through certain areas, clashes erupted between locals, the police, and soldiers accompanying the procession.

The accident occurred when a private vehicle, not part of the official convoy, veered off the road while trying to avoid the funeral procession, striking a group of mourners. This incident transpired amidst tensions along the route, with some mourners demanding the convoy stop so they could view the coffin.

Mr. Chilima, who passed away in a plane crash a week earlier, was being transported for burial in his hometown of Ntcheu. The funeral procession faced disruptions as some individuals threw stones at government vehicles and officials.

In response to these events, Mr. Chilima’s UTM party condemned the violence and urged supporters to refrain from destructive actions, emphasizing the late Vice-President’s advocacy for peace.

Despite the tragedy, Mr. Chilima’s funeral service at the national stadium drew tens of thousands of mourners, reflecting his special connection with the people, particularly the youth. His untimely death has left a significant impact on Malawian politics, with his party forming a coalition government with President Chakwera’s after the 2020 elections.

However, tensions remain as some of Mr. Chilima’s supporters criticize the government’s handling of events leading to his death, evident during President Chakwera’s eulogy at the funeral service, where he faced vocal dissent.

Moving forward, President Chakwera has pledged a thorough investigation into the plane crash that claimed Mr. Chilima’s life and those of eight others.

Video: Former NDC communicator explains 24-hour economy by referencing animal farming

Veteran member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. William Atta Owusu has resigned from the party following its decision to disown him despite his long-standing service.

During an appearance on Kumasi-based Boss FM, Owusu discussed the 24-hour economy policy proposed by John Dramani Mahama, emphasizing its potential to create jobs if Mahama wins the 2024 election.

In a video that went viral on social media, Owusu elaborated on the policy, particularly its impact on animal farming. He mentioned modern farming techniques, drawing a parallel to practices in Pudong, China, where wild animals like lions and elephants are part of the farming ecosystem. According to Owusu, this model could boost tourism and require specialized personnel for feeding and veterinary care, thus creating employment opportunities.

However, his comments prompted the Ashanti Regional Communication Directorate of the NDC to issue a statement disassociating the party from his views. This led Owusu to resign, expressing profound disappointment with the party’s leadership.

In his resignation statement, Dr. Owusu wrote, “I, Dr. William Atta Owusu, am left with no choice but to tender my resignation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), effective immediately.” He lamented being “shamefully disowned and dismissed” by those who had benefited from his dedication.

Owusu condemned the NDC leadership’s actions as a “cowardly attempt to distance themselves” from him, revealing the party’s true nature as one of “deceit, betrayal, and ingratitude.” He declared his unwillingness to remain part of an organization that readily discards its loyal members and stated that his resignation reflects the party’s toxic politics and lack of regard for its members’ well-being. “Farewell, NDC. Your loss is my gain,” he concluded.

This resignation comes in the wake of the viral video and the ensuing controversy surrounding his remarks on the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy, highlighting the internal conflicts within the party.

  • Mahama’s 2025 Ministerial list leaks

    Mahama’s 2025 Ministerial list leaks

A leaked ministerial list for John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for the 2024 general election, has surfaced before the crucial December 7 polls.

Dr. Randy Abbey, host of “Good Morning Ghana” on Metro TV, Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, and Kevin Ekow Taylor, host of “With All Due Respect” on Loud Silence TV, have been suggested for the roles of Youth and Sports Minister, Information Minister, and Attorney General and Minister for Justice, respectively.

In a leaked letter addressed to the Secretary of the NDC’s Appointments Committee and signed by Mahama, the proposals are based on optimistic forecasts from credible agencies such as Fitch Solutions, the Economist Intelligence Unit, and Global Info Analytics, predicting a favorable outcome for the NDC.

Additional names on the list include Stan Xoese Dogbe as Chief of Staff; Joyce Bawa Mogtari as Executive Secretary to the President; Kofi Totobi Quakyi as National Security Advisor; Col. Larry Gbevlo-Lartey (Rtd) as National Security Coordinator; James Agalga for Defense; and Peter Lanchene Toobu for Interior.

The list, formulated during a campaign meeting attended by Mahama, also features Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the embattled Minority leader, slated for the Ministry of Finance; Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for Foreign Affairs; Peter Boamah Otokunor for Agriculture; John Abdulai Jinapor for Energy; Julius Debrah for Trade and Industry; and Dr. Edward Omane Boamah as the proposed Health Minister.

Other proposed appointees are Dominic Akuritinga Ayine for Education; Kwame Awuah-Darko for Lands and Natural Resources; Samuel Nartey George for Communications; Felix Kwakye Ofosu for Roads and Transport; and Dorcas Affo-Toffey for Gender.

Mahama stated that positions for Members of Parliament and Parliamentary Candidates on the list would be secured upon their victory in the Parliamentary elections.

The NDC plans to officially announce the list on January 8, 2025, a day after Mahama’s anticipated swearing-in as President. The main objective of presenting this list ahead of time, according to the leaked letter, is to ensure the NDC government is ready to start promptly and meet the high expectations of Ghanaians.

Mahama emphasized that the individuals on this list have shown exceptional dedication and service to the party, greatly contributing to its electoral success through their unwavering efforts and loyalty.

The letter directed the Appointments Committee to conduct the necessary background checks and vetting processes to verify the competence and suitability of the proposed individuals for their respective roles.

It is worth noting that Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party’s national chairman, during the presentation of Prof. Opoku Agyemang as running mate on April 24, 2024, advised party members to avoid infighting over positions in the next Mahama administration. He also cautioned against complacency from polls favoring the NDC, warning that internal disputes could dampen supporters’ enthusiasm.

Subsequently, allegations surfaced that Mahama was selling positions within the party, with reports suggesting that, in some cases, the same position had been sold to multiple individuals, favoring those with the most financial influence.

Video: Check out poised manner of female pilot as she lands an aircraft in Accra

Pilots have one of the most rewarding yet challenging professions, requiring them to remain calm in critical situations while expertly guiding an aircraft from takeoff to a safe landing.

Successfully landing a plane involves several essential steps to ensure a smooth touchdown.

First, pilots must establish communication with Air Traffic Control (ATC) to receive updates on weather conditions and runway availability. They then follow the designated flight path and altitude as instructed by ATC. The descent begins according to ATC directions, involving a reduction in speed and configuring the aircraft for landing.

Next, the pilot aligns the aircraft with the runway using visual aids or the instrument landing system (ILS). As the plane nears the runway threshold, the descent rate is gradually reduced. Maintaining directional control with rudder pedals and aerodynamic controls is crucial once the aircraft touches down. Finally, the pilot follows taxiway instructions from ATC to reach the terminal or parking area.

A video shared on X showcases a female pilot skillfully executing these steps to land an aircraft in Accra. Throughout the process, she remains composed and determined, ensuring a safe and smooth landing.

Ambulance case: ‘Agyemang-Manu told me the case is now being handled by NPP headquarters – Jakpa tells court’

The third accused in the ongoing ambulance trial has testified in the Accra High Court that the former Minister for Health, Kweku Agyemang-Manu, informed him that businessmen aligned with the current government would order their own ambulances to profit from the venture. This came as a response to issues stemming from an initiative started by NDC businessmen, which the former minister referred to as their responsibility to resolve.

Businessman Richard Jakpa testified that Mr. Agyeman Manu said the ambulance case had been taken over by his party’s headquarters. Jakpa indicated that the government ordered new ambulances of the same model, Mercedes Benz Van 311, through a third-party company, as Mercedes does not manufacture ambulances directly. This company converted the vans into ambulances and shipped them to Ghana, where they awaited accessories for a year before being distributed.

Jakpa and Dr. Ato Forson, the current minority leader in parliament, are accused of causing a financial loss of 2.37 million euros through the ambulance purchase. Both have pleaded not guilty. Jakpa described the prosecution’s claims that the ambulances were unfit for purpose as “very mischievous” and aimed at sabotaging the project initiated by the previous government.

Jakpa presented a letter to the court, stating it resolved all issues related to the ambulance project before the new government took power. He emphasized that the current government only needed to implement the provisions outlined in the letter and an addendum to the main contract. Despite showing this letter to Mr. Agyeman Manu, the minister declined to act on it, citing party directives and opting to order new ambulances instead.

“I’m not called Joyce Bawa, I don’t campaign for Mahama” – Kwesi Pratt fires NPP’s Kofi Tonto

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt disagreed with government spokesperson Kofi Tonto‘s statement that the 2024 elections would only involve John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party. Pratt voiced his objection during a discussion on Peace FM’s Kokroko program, where Tonto suggested that Mahama was the sole alternative to Bawumia.

The debate stemmed from Pratt’s critique of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign strategy, which he believes contradicts the government’s current stance. He argued that Bawumia’s divergence from President Akufo-Addo’s vision indicates the government’s lack of popularity.

During the discussion, Kofi Tonto interrupted Pratt, claiming that the government has outperformed the Mahama administration and that Bawumia’s promises for the upcoming elections surpass Mahama’s offerings.

Pratt rejected Tonto’s attempt to label him as biased towards the NDC, emphasizing that he is not obligated to advocate for any specific candidate. He stressed that the 2024 elections involve more than two candidates and that his perspective represents the interests of all candidates, not just Mahama.

He further questioned Bawumia’s decision to distance himself from the government’s past vision, suggesting that it reflects a belief in the flaws of the current administration’s approach. Pratt challenged the differences between Bawumia’s vision and that of President Akufo-Addo, questioning the rationale behind abandoning the previous vision if it was commendable.

NaCCA to roll out new curriculum for SHS, inclusivity focus on visually impaired, deaf students

Acting director for Curriculum at the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Reginald Quartey recently highlighted the upcoming changes to Ghana’s secondary education curriculum. The new curriculum aims to promote inclusive pedagogy, particularly benefiting students with disabilities such as visual impairments and hearing impairments.

Scheduled for rollout in October 2024, this curriculum overhaul is a significant step toward modernizing education in senior high schools (SHSs) across the country. Quartey emphasized that extensive stakeholder engagements, including with teacher unions in Bolgatanga, have been pivotal in refining the curriculum to ensure its success.

One notable aspect of the new curriculum is its focus on inclusivity for visually impaired and deaf students. For instance, Quartey mentioned the development of a mathematics curriculum tailored for visually impaired students to study at the SHS level, addressing a gap where such students often lack opportunities in certain subjects.

Moreover, NaCCA is actively working on a national sign language curriculum, spanning from basic school to SHS level, further underlining the commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in education.

The ongoing pilot program involving 33 SHSs is crucial for identifying any shortcomings or gaps in the curriculum before its full implementation. Quartey expressed confidence that this process would lead to a refined and effective curriculum that meets the diverse needs of students.

Regarding assessment methods, NaCCA plans to introduce a transcript system that will integrate internal assessments conducted by schools. This approach aims to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated evaluation process in collaboration with the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

Professor Jonathan Fletcher, a key figure in crafting the new curriculum, highlighted its learner-centered approach and unique features, including subject-specific philosophies and visions. He stressed the curriculum’s role in nurturing not just academic prowess but also Ghanaian values, leadership skills, and global citizenship among students.

While there’s optimism about the transformative impact of the new curriculum, Ivy Betur Naaso, the Upper East Regional Chairperson for the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), voiced concerns about equitable access. She noted disparities between different school categories and emphasized the need for a conducive learning environment and support for both students and teachers across all schools.

‘We had a misstep’ – NPP MP on medical supplies held at Tema port

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has admitted to deficiencies in Ghana’s management of medical supplies currently detained at the Tema port. These supplies, provided by the Global Fund and other international organizations at no cost, have been held up for over a year, causing significant strain on the nation’s health infrastructure.

In a recent interview with Channel One, Dr. Adomako Kissi highlighted the issue of delayed medical supplies, expressing regret over the mismanagement of these critical resources. He called for a more efficient and proactive approach in handling health-related imports, stressing the need for better coordination and oversight to ensure timely delivery to their intended recipients.

The MP emphasized the necessity for greater accountability and transparency in managing health resources, urging the government to learn from these lapses to prevent future occurrences. He pointed out that Ghana’s earlier vaccine issues were partly due to the expectation for the country to take over responsibilities previously managed by international organizations like GAVI.

Dr. Adomako Kissi acknowledged financial challenges in the country, which have affected priorities and availability of resources. He admitted that there have been missteps in managing these essential supplies, and emphasized the importance of prioritizing efficient distribution to enhance healthcare delivery across Ghana.

“…I think that we’ve goofed a little in all honesty…let me admit that our finances in the country are quite challenging…So our priorities will shift and the availability will also be a problem.”

“So I wouldn’t say that we haven’t had a misstep. We’ve had a misstep and it is unfortunate that items that are very useful in terms of our health prevention activities have suffered.”

There is no room for rivalries in the Gospel fraternity – Joe Mettle

Ghanaian gospel singer Joe Mettle emphasized that rivalries have no place in the gospel music community. He believes that since gospel artists share the common goal of worshiping the same God, there should be no room for conflicts or disputes, commonly known as “beefs.”

During an interview with Caroline Sampson on Asaase Café, Mettle expressed his perspective: “Are there beefs in the gospel industry? I’m not sure there are any. In the gospel [music] industry, we are serving the same Lord; it’s just that He gives diverse gifts unto us where, together, we bring it to honor Him. So, if we are both honoring and serving the same master, why are we beefing?”

He further explained, “We are serving the same body. You may be the hand, someone else will be the legs, and together we make the same kingdom and bring glory to God. So, why do I have to beef with you? There is no need for that.”

Mettle highlighted his approach to handling negativity and challenges within the industry, stating, “When the negativity comes, I identify the God factor in it, and when I do it works together for my good. By God’s grace, I have achieved certain feats based on negativity that came but I didn’t allow it to get to me. I don’t waste my pain, and I don’t waste my challenges; I utilize them for good.”

He emphasized their role in enhancing agricultural activities, facilitating trade, promoting tourism, and fostering overall economic development, particularly in Dagbon and the Northern Region.

Only individuals with tanks in their head will criticize me for honoring Bawumia’s call – King Paluta

New Artiste of the Year King Paluta has called out his critics as “empty-headed” for condemning his decision to accept an invitation from the Vice President.

During a three-day tour of the Ashanti Region, the rapper-turned-singer was seen performing his popular song ‘Aseda’ for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, a favorite of the Vice President.

Facing backlash for his involvement in political activities amid a tense political climate, King Paluta defended his actions on Accra-based United Television.

He dismissed the criticism, arguing that there is no issue with accepting an invitation from the Vice President, whom he described as a respected elder.

Responding to a presenter’s critique of his participation, King Paluta remarked, “I think the presenter is not thinking straight. Even he feels slighted when artistes don’t honor invitations, so why should it be different for the Vice President? I attended because the Vice President wanted to see me. If that bothers you, it’s your problem. I used my own fuel to get there, and if he helps with the cost, what’s wrong with that?”

Freddie Blay issues one-week ultimatum to Ablakwa, TV3 management for state capture claims or face lawsuit

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and current GNPC Board Chair, Freddie Blay, has issued a one-week ultimatum to North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, TV3’s management, and broadcast journalist Johnnie Hughes. He demands a retraction of what he describes as unfounded and baseless allegations against him and his family regarding state capture.

Blay expressed his dissatisfaction with claims that his family illegitimately acquired beachfront property managed by Labadi Beach Hotel. He clarified that his children lawfully obtained portions of the beachfront from the La Traditional Council and that their property is independent of the hotel’s management.

He accused Ablakwa of engaging in cheap propaganda aimed at damaging his family’s reputation, following Ablakwa’s accusations of a grand scheme of state capture involving top NPP officials. Ablakwa specifically alleged that Blay and his sons acquired interests in beachfront property traditionally managed by Labadi Beach Hotel, thereby compromising the hotel’s exclusive control.

In an interview with Oyerepa FM, Blay explained that initial negotiations between his sons and the hotel’s management were unsuccessful, leading his sons to formally acquire the beachfront from the La Traditional Council. He defended his sons’ actions as lawful and questioned why the hotel has not contested this interest in court.

Blay asserted, “If the hotel considers that somebody has taken its lands, the courts are there; they should go to court. I have seen correspondence that tried to negotiate for them to work together, but it never worked—so nobody has taken anybody’s land, definitely not my children. They are not involved in any state capture.”

He further criticized the portrayal of his family by Okudzeto Ablakwa and some media personnel, including Johnnie Hughes and TV3 management, as engaging in illegitimate business activities. He stressed that these claims are damaging and misleading.

Blay has given the North Tongu MP and the TV3 presenter a one-week ultimatum to apologize for the allegations of state capture. “I feel very defamed. Where my sons are operating is not for Labadi Beach Hotel. It is not their property, and unfortunately, Ablakwa and Johnnie are making it look like I have stolen the lands, making people call me a thief. I give Okudzeto Ablakwa and the TV3 management, including Johnnie Hughes, one week to render an apology to me and my family, or I will go to court,” he stated.

Individuals belonging to two NPP factions in Walewale trade blows

The internal conflict within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Walewale Constituency is escalating as supporters of the incumbent MP, former Gender Minister Hajia Lariba Abudu, and Dr. Tia Abudu Kabiru clashed in the studios of Eagle FM 94.1Mhz in Walewale.

Dr. Kabiru won the January 27 parliamentary primary of the NPP, defeating Hajia Lariba Abudu by securing 145 votes. Following the defeat, Hajia Lariba Abudu challenged the election result in the Tamale High Court.

The NPP, aiming to resolve the dispute, requested an out-of-court settlement. The Tamale High Court, presided over by Justice Richard Kogyapwah, granted the request on March 27, 2024, giving the party six weeks to settle the issue.

A recent video circulating on social media shows supporters of both leaders in a physical altercation at Eagle FM. Supporters of Kabiru were discussing the issue on air when thugs, allegedly led by Musah, son of the NPP North East Regional Council of Elders chairman, attacked Haadi (a.k.a Yaagsim), a resident of Kperiga in Walewale. This prompted a retaliatory response from the youth, but Musah had already left the studio.

The unresolved court case remains a hot topic in Walewale as the party leadership struggles to manage the conflict.

In the January 27 primary, Hajia Lariba Abudu received 138 votes, while Dr. Kabiru secured 145 votes.

The NPP North-East Regional Chairman of the Council of Elders, Professor Naa Nabila Sulemana, has criticized Vice President and party flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to resolve the internal conflict, suggesting that he could have influenced the former MP, who is his sister.

  • Astronomical increase in prices dwindles purchasing power of Eid-Ul-Adha celebrants

Astronomical increase in prices dwindles purchasing power of Eid-Ul-Adha celebrants

The continuous hike in general goods prices is significantly impacting the cost of livestock for the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. Visitors to the Tulaku market were surprised by the dramatic price increases.

Over recent months, prices of goods have surged, and the global observance of Eid-ul-Adha by Muslims has further driven up key commodity prices. Livestock, essential for the celebration, have seen prices for rams and cattle more than double.

The Tulaku livestock market, the largest in the Kpone Katamanso district of the Greater Accra Region, witnessed an influx of Muslims shopping for the celebration, only to be shocked by the inflated prices.

Ayisha, a regular at the market, bought a cow for fourteen thousand cedis this year, compared to six thousand five hundred cedis last year. She expressed concern that many people might be unable to afford livestock due to these high costs. Rams, which cost less than five thousand cedis last year, have also more than doubled in price.

Sule Amando, a livestock seller with over two decades of experience at Tulaku, explained to Stanley Nii Blewu of 3news.com that the price hike is due to the depreciation of the cedi against the CFA, necessitating price adjustments to match the forex rate.

“Four, five years ago, patronage of livestock was encouraging the same cannot be said this year. Market has really been slow”, he said

Cattle prices at the market range from six thousand to seventy thousand cedis. Sule, who caters to affluent customers, noted a significant drop in patronage this year compared to four or five years ago.

Mohammed Osman and his brother Ahmed cited factors like the continuous depreciation of the cedi and the high cost of feed as key determinants of livestock prices. Mohammed pointed out that feed and medicine costs heavily impact their finances, making the livestock business challenging under current conditions.

While the abundance of livestock provides opportunities for feed sellers, herdsmen who cannot afford the feed often resort to grazing their herds. The high cost of livestock is expected to persist beyond the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations due to the ongoing economic factors driving the price increases.

  • NDC sacks communication member for attributing Mahama’s 24-hour-economy to rearing lions, elephants

NDC sacks communication member for attributing Mahama’s 24-hour-economy to rearing lions, elephants

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from one of its Communicators in the Ashanti Region, Dr. William Atta Wusu, following controversial remarks he made on Kesseben TV in Kumasi.

In the video, Dr. Atta Wusu discussed the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy, suggesting the party would implement a program involving the rearing of lions as part of modern farming techniques, with helicopters feeding them.

This statement led to widespread confusion and criticism, prompting the NDC to disown Dr. Wusu.

The party clarified that he is not a parliamentary candidate or a member of the regional communications team.

“My attention has been drawn to a video in circulation in which one Dr. William Atta Wusu is seen on Kessben FM offering a bizarre explanation of the transformational 24-hour economy policy of the NDC”.

The statement said “For the records, Dr. William Atta is neither a Parliamentary Candidate nor a member of the NDC’s regional communications team that I lead. The views expressed by him on the 24-hour economy policy don’t in any way represent the position of the party”.

“We urge all producers of various political talk shows in the Ashanti Region to stick to the approved list of communicators sanctioned by the party in inviting representatives of the NDC to their programs” the statement underscored.

In response, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), criticized the NDC’s 24-hour economy proposal.

He argued that the NDC’s past record on power supply issues during their previous tenure undermines their credibility to implement such a policy now.

Jinapor highlighted the challenges faced by businesses during the NDC’s previous administration due to erratic power supply (“dumsor”). He questioned the NDC’s ability to ensure a 24-hour economy given their track record, emphasizing the party’s struggles in explaining the specifics of the policy to the public.

Overall, the controversy surrounding Dr. Atta Wusu’s comments has led to a broader discussion about the feasibility and credibility of the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy proposal.
