Dumsor: PURC directs ECG to produce load-shedding timetable by April 2

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has instructed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to deliver a load management timetable by April 2, 2024, in response to ongoing issues with internet connectivity and power disruptions affecting Ghanaians.

Despite recent interruptions in power supply, ECG has clarified that a load-shedding timetable is currently unnecessary.

However, the company has linked the crisis to 630 overloaded transformers during peak hours, signaling that these transformers in its operational zones are handling more than their capacity due to the escalating electricity demand.

In a statement released on Monday, March 18, 2024, PURC mandated ECG to provide a comprehensive load management timetable, including details such as ratings and current loadings of overloaded distribution transformers, GPS locations of these transformers, ratings of new transformers to be installed, installation timelines, load management schedules, and proof of information dissemination to consumers.

There are biblical examples of ‘side chicks’- Empress Gifty

Ghanaian gospel sensation and fashionista Empress Gifty has sparked controversy with her recent comments defending women, known as ‘side chicks‘ in Ghana, dating married men.

In a bold assertion, she stated that there is nothing inherently wrong with this practice, going against common public opinion.

During an interview on TV3, Empress Gifty reaffirmed her position, citing biblical examples to support her argument.

She maintained that as long as the side chicks exercise wisdom and avoid unwanted pregnancies, their relationships with married men are acceptable and not condemned in the Bible.

“There is nothing wrong with side chicks going for married men, but they should be wise enough not to get pregnant for them. The Bible doesn’t frown on it, even if it’s accepted in the Bible, Hagar can be an example,” Empress Gifty stated in an interview on TV3.

Empress Gifty’s remarks have ignited a heated debate on social media, with supporters and critics expressing contrasting views on the ethical implications of such relationships.

  • “78% of American gospel musicians are gay” – Sonnie Badu alleges

“78% of American gospel musicians are gay” – Sonnie Badu alleges

Ghanaian UK-based gospel musician Sonnie Badu made startling claims about the American gospel music scene, alleging that a significant percentage of gospel musicians in the US are part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Badu asserted that 78% of gospel musicians in America identify as gay, expressing concerns about the impact this may have on the music industry and society as a whole.

He suggested that once the public becomes aware of these musicians’ sexual orientations, there may be a shift in how their music is received and played, particularly in churches.

Sharing his own experiences, Badu recounted attending a gospel awards show where he was advised by another gospel artist to remain silent about anything he might witness regarding the LGBTQ+ community.

He also mentioned taking precautions in his own household, such as banning his children from watching YouTube due to what he perceives as pervasive LGBTQ+ content.

“Personally, in my house, my kids don’t watch YouTube anymore. There isn’t any content without propagating the LGBTQ+ agenda. Even with Disney World, there is nothing innocent being shown anymore, even though their attempt is subtle, it has lasting effects on the young viewer.

“In America, about 78% of gospel musicians are gay. When you find out these musicians’ identities, I am sure churches in Ghana will stop playing their songs.

“An American gospel musician told me one time at a gospel show that he is aware of my sexual orientation, so whatever I witness during the show, I should keep it to myself. This is a big thing in the US, even with Bishops that many look up to, many of them are also gay”, Sonnie Badu stated.

Badu’s comments come amid ongoing debates and legislative efforts regarding LGBTQ+ rights, including the recent passage of an anti-LGBT+ Bill by Ghana’s parliament, which awaits presidential assent.

The bill seeks to criminalise and penalise individuals involved in LGBTQ+ activities, with potential prison sentences for offenders.

These statements by Sonnie Badu highlight the complex intersections of music, identity, and social issues, sparking discussions about inclusivity, representation, and cultural attitudes towards LGBTQ+ communities.

  • “I appreciate being alive” – Dr. Dre recounts terrifying experience after surviving three strokes

“I appreciate being alive” – Dr. Dre recounts terrifying experience after surviving three strokes

Renowned rapper and record producer Dr. Dre, also known as Andre Young, recently shared his gratitude for life after surviving three strokes during his hospitalization for a brain aneurysm in 2021.

In a candid interview, he recounted the harrowing experience that led to a two-week stay in intensive care.

“I appreciate being alive,” Dr. Dre stated.

The ordeal began with excruciating pain behind his right ear, which he described as the worst he had ever felt.

Initially thinking he could simply rest, he credits his son’s friend for insisting on taking him to the hospital, a decision that likely saved his life.

But he added: “My son had a female friend that was there and was like, ‘No, we need to take you to the hospital.’”

Dr. Dre’s condition was critical, with approximately 15% of people not surviving a ruptured aneurysm before reaching the hospital, according to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.

‘They thought I was outta here’

“I’m hearing the doctors coming in and [saying], ‘You don’t know how lucky you are,” the Death Row Records co-founder told James Corden’s show This Life of Mine.

Doctors were grim about his prognosis, allowing his family to visit and say their goodbyes, assuming he might not make it.

“They called them up so they could say their last goodbyes because they thought I was outta here.”

Despite the challenges during treatment, including frequent testing and a two-week period of not eating, Dr. Dre emerged with a newfound appreciation for life.

“I didn’t eat for two weeks, definitely makes you appreciate being alive, that’s for sure. “High blood pressure in black men, that’s just what it is. They call it the silent killer,” he explained.

He reflected on the importance of physical health, noting the hereditary and often unpreventable nature of conditions like high blood pressure, particularly prevalent among Black men.

His experience sheds light on the disproportionate risk faced by African-Americans and Hispanics regarding brain aneurysms, emphasising the importance of awareness and preventive measures within these communities.

A brain aneurysm, marked by an artery’s enlargement due to vessel wall weakness, typically presents symptoms upon rupture, which can lead to life-threatening bleeding on the brain.

Dr. Dre’s survival serves as a reminder of resilience and the value of health vigilance in mitigating such critical health challenges.

  • Unemployment highest threat to Ghana’s economic development – World Economic Forum

Ghana has been grappling with an alarming rise in unemployment rates, reaching a staggering 1.85 million unemployed individuals in the third quarter of 2023 according to the Ghana Statistical Service.

Despite this concerning trend, the President’s silence on the matter during the 2024 State of the Nation Address has raised eyebrows about the government’s response to this critical issue.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, the World Economic Forum‘s 2024 Global Risk Report has now identified “unemployment” as the highest risk factor in Ghana.

This signifies a significant structural decline in work prospects and standards, encompassing issues such as erosion of workers’ rights, stagnant wages, increased unemployment and underemployment, as well as challenges stemming from automation or the green transition, all contributing to stagnant social mobility.

The latest labour statistics from the Ghana Statistical Service paint a worrisome picture, showing an upward trajectory in Ghana’s unemployment rate from 5.3% in 2010 to a concerning 14.7% by the third quarter of 2023.

This translates to approximately 1.85 million Ghanaians facing joblessness.

Beyond unemployment, the report highlights other pressing risks such as public debt, inflation, cybercrime, and economic downturn, ranking them in descending order as the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th risk factors respectively.

Ghana’s current public debt stands at GHS 567.3 billion, averaging GHS 18,300 per capita, while inflation remains in double digits at 23.2% as of February 2024.

Addressing cybersecurity concerns, Ghana ranks third in cyber security readiness in Africa, according to the International Telecommunications Union.

However, reports from the Media Foundation for West Africa and the Bank of Ghana highlight significant financial losses due to cybercrime, underlining the urgent need to bolster cybersecurity measures.

The Global Risk Report underscores the multifaceted nature of risks faced by Ghana, spanning economic, environmental, geopolitical, societal, and technological realms, encompassing 34 risk factors in total.

Ghana close to signing MOU with bilateral creditors over debt restructure

Ghana is on the verge of finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with its bilateral creditors, marking a significant step in the debt restructuring process.

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristaline Georgieva, expressed optimism about the progress during a roundtable engagement in Accra.

Georgieva stated, “There is very tangible progress made towards signing a Memorandum of Understanding with bilateral creditors” the Managing Director of the IMF stated.

The IMF Director’s remarks came during her two-day working visit to Ghana, where she emphasized the importance of reaching a fair deal with Eurobond holders and private creditors.

She cautioned that Ghana’s three bailout packages could be at risk if a satisfactory restructuring agreement isn’t reached with Eurobond holders.

Georgieva’s meeting with President Akufo-Addo underscored the critical nature of the ongoing negotiations, referencing potential setbacks similar to Zambia’s if a balanced deal isn’t achieved.

“Ghana is indeed benefiting from the experiences of countries that have gone for debt restructuring under the common framework. The sooner we do a great deal the better for the country. To do a deal that may actually reverse progress is not going to be good for the country. You cannot allow the Eurobond creditors to twist your arm. Why? Because you have done a very painful domestic debt restructuring, you have agreed in principle on debt restructuring with the official creditors of Ghana under certain conditions. The deal with the Eurobond has to be a fair deal vis-a-visa what was already done otherwise we risk seeing what happened in Zambia,” she stated.

Ghana is facing the task of restructuring around $13 billion owed to Eurobond holders.

Reflecting on Ghana’s performance under the IMF Programme, Georgieva acknowledged the country’s success in meeting key targets related to inflation rate and economic growth.

“Because we are climbing a mountain and we are doing quite well, we are not yet at the top, we need to keep climbing so there’s radiation of responsibility we need to complete with private creditors but complete defending the interest of the country.”

She praised Ghana’s decision to seek IMF support, noting that the current developments validate the wisdom of stabilizing the economy through international cooperation.

As negotiations continue, the focus remains on securing a fair deal that benefits Ghana while upholding the country’s economic stability and growth prospects.

Current Internet challenges will not affect the 2024 elections- EC

The Director of Electoral Services at Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, has reassured the public that the 2024 general election will not be affected by recent internet disruptions.

Dr. Quaicoe clarified that both presidential and parliamentary election results are declared manually, eliminating dependency on internet services.

Addressing concerns raised by some Ghanaians regarding potential internet disruptions on election day, Dr. Quaicoe explained that the Biometric Verification Devices used in the electoral process operate offline using SD cards, ensuring the integrity of the election results.

“Our results declaration process is basically manual.

The Biometric Verification Devices use SD cards with the data on them and they don’t use Internet so there is no way the 2024 elections will be affected if there are issues with Internet connectivity as being experienced now,” Dr Quaicoe told the Daily Graphic.

Dr. Quaicoe emphasised, highlighting the manual counting and collation processes followed by the EC officials.

He further elaborated that the collation of results is conducted using computers without internet connectivity, guaranteeing the elections’ smooth operation regardless of internet disruptions.

“So, the election day has nothing to do with Internet connectivity.

“The officers will physically send the results to the collation centres, and the results will be collated manually on the access sheet, which has no Internet connectivity.

The region will also do the collation just using the computer without Internet connectivity.”

Despite nationwide internet disruptions affecting various sectors recently, including banking, academics, and transportation services, Dr. Quaicoe urged the public not to panic, assuring them that the electoral process remains unaffected.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) also acknowledged the impact of the disruptions and pledged to work diligently with stakeholders to restore full connectivity.

Efforts are underway to assess and repair the damage to ensure improved data services in the coming days, ensuring minimal disruptions ahead of the 2024 general election.

  • Kofi Adjorlolo slams TV stations in Ghana for televising Nigerian contents

Kofi Adjorlolo slams TV stations in Ghana for televising Nigerian contents

Renowned Ghanaian actor Kofi Adjorlolo has raised concerns about Ghanaian television stations frequently downloading and broadcasting Nigerian movies without obtaining proper permission.

Currently filming in Nigeria, Adjorlolo highlighted the dissatisfaction among Nigerian producers towards Ghanaian TV channels and streaming platforms airing content without authorization.

During an interview on Daybreak Hitz, the veteran actor emphasized the negative impact of this practice on Ghanaian actors, as it leads to Nigerian producers overlooking them.

Adjorlolo pointed out that local TV stations quickly download movies featuring Ghanaian actors and showcase them to their audiences, affecting the actors’ opportunities in Nigeria.

“They are displeased with Ghanaians uploading the films. They upload the films and in the next day they are showing it on their platforms. As soon as Ghanaians see and know we are in the movie, they download and show on their TVs and that is affecting us to get work to do here in Nigeria,” Kofi Adjorlolo hstated.

Adjorlolo cautioned that if the problem persists, Nigerian producers may opt to stop hiring Ghanaian actors altogether, posing a significant threat to the livelihoods of many actors from Ghana.

Mr Adjorlolo said this is affecting them financially and charged these local channels to stop the “theft”.

“I don’t know why the TV stations will not go for permission before downloading their works. We are not talking about content or time. This is an international work and has laws protecting the works. That is why we have copyright and intellectual laws… if you don’t ask for permission, and you telecast, there are consequences for that.

“Do you know how many Ghanaians are working here, Anthony Wood, James Gardiner and the rest, even Jackie left not long ago? They give us the opportunity to work, so our livelihood is concerned here? A lot of African countries see Nollywood as a stepping stone, every Ghanaian actor wants to be in Nollywood, and we are doing this to them… it’s not good, they are complaining so bitterly,” Mr Adjorlolo said.

He urged unity among movie unions to protect the rights of actors and ensure fair practices within the industry.

“Producers in Nigeria can decide to stop using Ghanaian actors due to this. There are clips that are shown to these producers, and they have shown me,” he said.

Why celebrities no longer in business beg for money

A heartfelt video capturing the struggles of veteran musician K. K. Kabobo battling a severe liver disease gripped online audiences, shedding light on the urgent need for financial assistance during his recovery journey.

Despite generous contributions from notable figures such as former president Mahama, Samira Bawumia, and musician Wendy Shay, K.K. Kabobo tragically passed away due to his condition.

This tragic event is not an isolated incident within Ghana’s creative community, as the loss of Ghanaian drama veteran actor Prince Yawson known widely as ‘Waakye’ highlights similar challenges that could have been mitigated with adequate funding.

The absence of established royalty structures to support retired artists has drawn criticism towards organisations like GHAMRO, Ghana Actors Guild and MUSIGA for their failure to implement policies ensuring the welfare of creatives after their active careers.

A recent topic raised by veteran actress Patience Ozokwo, known for her roles in over 200 movies, emphasized the importance of financial planning and personal responsibility among artists.

Ozokwo highlighted the tendency for creatives to lead lavish lifestyles without adequate savings, leaving them vulnerable in times of need.

Echoing these sentiments, Rita Dominic, in a recent interview, cautioned against the allure of living lavishly in the entertainment industry, emphasising the need for careful investment and financial diligence.

The untimely demise of K. K. Kabobo and other veteran creatives underscores the necessity for robust support structures within the entertainment sector to prevent such tragedies in the future.

According to social media reports, Bongo Ideas was allegedly arrested by unidentified police officers early Friday morning, with no information provided about his location or the reason for his arrest.

Despite efforts by his family to locate him by checking various police stations, Bongo Ideas’ whereabouts remain unknown.

The situation has gained attention from Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the Convenor for the #FixTheCountry movement, who has linked Bongo Ideas’ disappearance to his recent criticisms of First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

Bongo Ideas had made contentious remarks about President Akufo-Addo’s marriage to Rebecca Akufo-Addo, leading to speculations about a possible connection between his comments and his alleged abduction.

Barker-Vormawor expressed concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic values and condemning any misuse of state power to silence dissenting voices.

He stated, “Even if Bongo Ideas had been insulting me for 30 years, I will still show up and advocate for him if the State abducts him at night for talking uncharitably about the First Lady.”

I rarely reply messages on social media due to threats to my life – Wendy Shay

Ghanaian Musician Wendy Asiamah Addo known popularly as Wendy Shay recently shared her experience of dealing with cyberbullying and the impact it has had on her social media interactions.

In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, Wendy revealed that she has been avoiding responding to comments and direct messages (DM) on social media due to the constant threats and negativity she receives.

Wendy explained that this decision was made to protect her mental well-being after facing significant backlash and even death threats when she first entered the music industry.

“I faced a lot of backlash when I came into the industry. You know I had death threats and all of that,” Wendy Shay stated.

However, this strategy backfired as she missed out on important opportunities, such as a potential music deal with a foreign artist.

“I got a message from Trilla, and that time it was new and they wanted to put me on, and I missed it,” she said.

Despite efforts to identify and address the cyberbullies, Wendy noted that many of them operate through fake accounts, making it challenging to hold them accountable.

She also hinted at a possible partnership or departure from her current label, Ruff Town Records, but stated that details would remain undisclosed until further notice.

“That’s something that is going to be between Ruff Town Records and me. Until further notice, let’s just keep it like that.

“As to whether we will have a partnership, it would be up to us, and up to me as an artiste.”

The ‘Masakra’ hitmaker’s story sheds light on the struggles that artists face in navigating the digital landscape and underscores the importance of mental health in dealing with online harassment.

Nollywood star Rita Dominic, who tied the knot in 2022, recently addressed the public scrutiny she faced for remaining single until she found the right partner.

Speaking at the Women of Valour International Women’s Day event in Accra, Ghana, Dominic shared her experience dealing with societal expectations and criticisms directed at her unmarried status.

She candidly discussed the pressures she encountered and the negativity surrounding her decision to wait for a meaningful connection before getting married.

Dominic recounted how her love story and marriage at what some consider an older age sparked intense discussions on social media platforms.

Despite facing questions and reminders about her age from various quarters, she stood firm in her belief that no one should be judged based on outdated societal norms.

“Why let yourself be ruled by decisions made by people who made them to suit their own selfish interests at the time, who are long gone? For years I was hounded with ‘When are you going to marry?’ ‘You are old,’ and I would brush it off,” she expressed.

The actress emphasized the importance of choosing love on one’s terms rather than succumbing to external pressures or expectations.

Dominic married entrepreneur Fidelis Anosike in 2022, underscoring her message of embracing love when it feels right, regardless of societal timelines.

I’ll appeal to ECOWAS court to force Akufo-Addo to sign the anti-witchcraft bill – Francis-Xavier Sosu

A human rights lawyer and Member of Parliament (MP) representing Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu  has signaled his intention to potentially petition the ECOWAS court to compel President Akufo-Addo to sign both the witchcraft bill and the armed forces amendment bill into law.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the reasons provided by President Akufo-Addo for withholding assent, Sosu emphasised the importance of these bills in alignment with international conventions, particularly the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

“I will appeal to the President to assent to the witchcraft bill as well as the armed forces amendment bill. The reason the President is giving is honestly not reasonable. It is also the same with the witchcraft bill because the anti-witchcraft bill is a bill that is consistent with the UN Convention on elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.

“In my case, I am considering an action at the ECOWAS court for a declaration that the President’s continuous withholding of assent to those two critical bills that I led amounts to a violation of both our constitution and the human rights provisions in the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights in the UN Convention,” hFrancis Xavier-Sosu told TV3.

Highlighting the significance of the bills, especially the anti-witchcraft legislation, Sosu remarked that their enactment would reflect positively on the President’s legacy.

Sosu, who has championed numerous private member’s bills in Parliament, criticized President Akufo-Addo for what he perceives as a lack of transparency regarding his refusal to sign the bills, clarifying that Article 108 of the Constitution does not apply to the executive branch.

Despite his efforts, Sosu expressed doubts about the feasibility of garnering the necessary two-thirds majority in Parliament to override the President’s decision.

The Constituency Chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Manhyia South, Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Atta, known as ‘Tom Tom  has declared his stance against apologizing to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, despite looming legal threats.

Ofori Atta had insinuated that Wontumi was involved in trading the party’s vice-presidential slot.

Wontumi issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Ofori Atta to substantiate the claims or retract and apologise, warning of legal action otherwise.

“While the public is urged to dismiss and disregard these unfounded claims as they are bereft of, and lack, substance, Mr. Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori-Atta is given 48 hours to either substantiate these allegations or render an unqualified apology to Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako and the Party in the Ashanti Region.

Stop granting media interviews; mourn your husband in peace – Afia Schwarzenegger to John Kumah’s wife

Outspoken media personality, Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa known popularly as Afia Schwarzenegger has urged wife of late Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah, Lilian Kumah to refrain from public statements and focus on mourning her husband.

Afia Schwarzenegger emphasised the importance of observing a period of quiet reflection and respect for the deceased, cautioning against engaging with the media or addressing contentious issues before her husband’s burial.

She warned against succumbing to political pressures to speak publicly, highlighting the potential for inadvertently stirring controversy and advised Lilian Kumah to seek solace and guidance from her faith during this challenging time.

“The woman [Kumah’s wife] is a pastor, and I know she is not going to do politics, but she should keep quiet. If you follow politicians, you will end up making unnecessary remarks. How can you say, ‘Kumah, who was 45-years-old is better than others.

“Did she think about it? Let God guide your utterances as a pastor, and don’t speak anyhow. From what you said in the interview, the holy spirit had departed from you. Stop granting interviews and mourn your husband,” she said while speaking in a TikTok live session.

The socialite’s remarks came after Lilian Kumah’s interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio, where she responded to criticisms surrounding her husband’s demise, including questioning the authenticity of a prophetic prediction.

Contrary to speculation, an autopsy report confirmed that John Kumah’s death was not due to poisoning but resulted from a prolonged illness.

John Kumah’s untimely passing on March 7, 2024, has left a void in both political and personal spheres, survived by his wife, Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, and six children.

Bawumia to name running mate by May 2024 – Nana Akomea hints

A prominent figure within Ghana’s political landscape, Nana Akomea has disclosed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is adopting a careful approach in unveiling its running mate for the upcoming elections.

Formerly representing Okaikwei South in Parliament, Akomea emphasised that extensive groundwork is underway to identify the most suitable candidate to complement Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Akomea highlighted that despite the National Democratic Congress (NDC) maintaining Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as their candidate, the NPP remains unfazed.

“Bawumia is in no hurry to announce a running mate, but the public will be informed by May,” Akomea assured.

He further commented on the NDC’s decision, expressing scepticism about their chances and suggesting it could lead to another electoral defeat.

However, Akomea firmly denied any rumours of his interest in serving as Bawumia’s vice president, clarifying that while his name may have been circulated on WhatsApp platforms, he has no intention to pursue the role.

“I have no desire to be Dr. Bawumia’s Vice President; there are other deserving candidates,” Akomea affirmed.

“In a pivotal period of my life, I stepped away from the limelight,” says Dominic, recounting her departure from the movie industry due to personal challenges and loss. “London became my refuge, and caregiving became my calling.”

While her transition may have seemed unconventional, Dominic emphasized the profound fulfilment derived from her caretaking role, dismissing any notion of it being a downgrade from her glamorous acting career.

“In 2001/2002 I stopped acting. I left the [movie] industry and moved to London because it was a very dark period in my life. I fell out with some friends I considered family. And I just gave up acting for a while. I needed to get out of that space for a minute.

While in London, I was trying to make ends meet so I started working in a care home as a caregiver for adults with special needs. While some might view it as a step-down, I don’t. Taking care of others brought me joy and purpose at a time I needed it most,” Rita Dominic stated.

  • “If you can cope with a woman; you can run a local government” – Pete Edochie

“If you can cope with a woman; you can run a local government” – Pete Edochie

Celebrated actor Pete Edochie, who recently turned 77, delivered a powerful message emphasizing the significance of women in society.

Edochie asserts that a man’s ability to manage and understand women qualifies him for leadership, even suggesting that such a man could effectively govern a country.

He highlighted the essential role women play in transforming a mere house into a nurturing home, emphasising their strength lies within their words.

Edochie condemned violence against women, asserting that any man who resorts to physical aggression lacks the qualities of true manhood.

“My 77th birthday coincided with the celebration of the International Women’s Day. So I want to use this opportunity to congratulate our women. A house is a house but converted to a home only when a woman gets into it. The strength of a woman is in her tongue.

“If a woman provokes you and you strike her, you do not qualify to be called a man. But if you can cope with a woman, you can run a local government, you can run a country. I want to tell you that.

“So congratulations to all the women. Keep it up. You make us proud. You take care of our children,” Pete Edochie stated.

With a career spanning nearly four decades and appearances in over 200 films, including classics like ‘Things Fall Apart’ and ‘Living with Death’, Edochie’s words carry weight within and beyond the Nigerian film industry.

We demand an apology from Afenyo-Markin for attacking Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang- NDC MP’s

Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are calling for an apology from Majority Leader Afenyo-Markin following derogatory remarks regarding the age of John Dramani Mahama’s running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang.

During a debate, Afenyo-Markin implied that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s age, being a woman in her 70s, reflects a lack of forward-thinking leadership within the NDC, sparking condemnation from fellow MPs.

“Even if you look at his choice of running mate, he could not get somebody that one could say that they are planning for the future. The person is over 70 years old.

“There is no succession plan. Mr. Speaker, from day one, the government will be in crisis. Mr Speaker, they went to pick a very old person who could not perform at the Education Ministry,” Afenyo-Markin said before the Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim, rose to issue a spirited rebuttal to the Majority Leader.

Gizella Akushika Tetteh-Agbotui, representing the Awutu Senya West Constituency, emphasised the need for Afenyo-Markin to publicly apologise, highlighting Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s intelligence and qualifications, and denouncing the disrespectful nature of the comments, particularly in the wake of International Women’s Day celebrations.

“It is totally unfair to women to be treated that way. Prof.Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang is a very intelligent woman, she taught Afenyo-Markin in school communications, she doesn’t deserve the disrespect he is getting especially after celebrating International Women’s day, Afenyo-Markin must publicly apologise,” Gizella Akushika Tetteh-Agbotui stated.
