He emphasised that the successful implementation of this initiative would significantly enhance business interactions between the involved nations.

“Government has been able to reach an agreement with neighbouring Togo to roll out free roaming services on all networks in both countries. And at the moment, the National Communications Authority is in the process of signing a similar agreement with Benin and The Gambia so citizens can connect easily when they are in each other’s territory”, Dr. Bawumia stated.

  • Be guided, watch your tongue when speaking about Prof Naana Opoku-Agyeman – Dzifa Gomashie to Afenyo-Markin

Be guided, watch your tongue when speaking about Prof Naana Opoku-Agyeman – Dzifa Gomashie to Afenyo-Markin

Ketu South Member of Parliament, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, has strongly criticized the Majority Leader’s recent comments targeting Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, denouncing them as culturally and professionally inappropriate.

The condemnation comes in response to Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s remarks during a debate, where he suggested that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s selection as the NDC’s running mate, being a woman in her 70s, indicates a lack of succession planning and visionary leadership within the party.

The Minority caucus expressed dismay over Afenyo-Markin’s reluctance to retract his statement, leading to a disruption in proceedings and the suspension of debate by the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah Amoako.

Upon the session’s resumption, Afenyo-Markin withdrew his statement, acknowledging its inappropriateness regarding Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s age.

“Colleagues expressed a concern about the issue of age. Mr Speaker, the submission was to the effect that our opponents don’t have a clear succession plan for the future [and] not to denigrate their running mate based on age. So I withdraw that aspect of the submission that referred to her age as the basis of my contention.”

In an interview with Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Gomashie condemned Afenyo-Markin’s remarks, deeming them unfair and unacceptable both culturally and professionally.

She stressed the importance of respecting Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s achievements and urged colleagues to choose their words carefully.

Gomashie emphasised the Ghanaian women’s stance against any attempts to undermine Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s accomplishments, advocating for respectful discourse in political engagements.

“Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, our president is older. Is he not still leading this country? All these that he has done abysmally. Do we say that we should clear him off and call him all kinds of things because he is over 80, NO.

“All I am saying is that people should be guided and watch their tongue when they are speaking about Prof Naana Opoku-Agyeman because I will not take that sitting down…and also in that chamber even when we are doing politics let’s be guided how we do the politics,” she said.

I’m not an attention seeker; I give from my heart – Wendy Shay

Ghanaian musician Wendy Asiamah Addo known popularly as Wendy Shay explained her decision to donate GH₵10,000 to K.K Kabobo on camera, asserting that she aimed to shed light on the urgent need for assistance.

In an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Shay emphasises that while she often engages in charitable acts privately, this public gesture was intended to raise awareness about K.K Kabobo’s plight and encourage others to contribute to his treatment for liver disease.

Despite controversy, Wendy Shay remained steadfast in her commitment to philanthropy, advocating for support for K.K Kabobo, whose family revealed his battle with liver disease in February.

“I do a lot of donations off-camera and give back to society. This particular gesture was different because I was actually calling people to come to his aid. I wanted to show people the actual situation so they would come forth with help” the musician explained.

Notably, other notable figures such as Former President John Mahama, Vice President Samira Bawumia’s wife, and The Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) have also contributed funds to aid the musician.

You can be poisoned by any means; even by the tip of a woman’s breast – Ajagurajah

Ajagurajah Movement leader, Bishop Kwabena Asiamah has disclosed a recent attempt on his life through poisoning.

Despite the assailant’s closeness, Bishop Asiamah credits his survival to divine grace.

The religious leader now exercises caution in his dietary habits, opting for water from sealed glass containers to prevent tampering.

“Someone tried to poison me. The person was in my circle… Because of that encounter, I’ve been drinking water from a glass container so that no one can inject anything into it,” he explained during a TikTok live session.

During a TikTok live session, Ajagurajah emphasized that poisoning isn’t confined to food, highlighting various unconventional methods employed by individuals with malicious intent.

He cautioned against overlooking potential dangers, citing a previous warning about such threats that had gone unheeded.

Ajagurajah also drew attention to the broader issue, mentioning how some women resort to poisoning through unconventional means during intimate encounters.

He specifically advised members of the Ajagurajah Movement to refrain from certain practices and urged the public to remain vigilant against potential harm.

“I’ve stated that poisoning no longer occurs through food or drink. There are numerous approaches one can take. Some women even use the poison on the tips of their breasts.

“So I admonished the people in the Ajagurajah Movement to stop sucking women’s breasts. I warned the public to be cautious with poisoning some years ago but I was chastised and taken for granted,” he added.

Privatizing ECG’s retail segment must be considered for efficient  billing system – Deputy Energy Minister-designate

Deputy Minister Designate for Energy, Collins Adomako-Mensah has proposed the partial privatization of the Electricity Company of Ghana‘s (ECG) retail segment as a strategic move to enhance its billing system efficiency.

During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, March 11, Adomako-Mensah emphasised the potential benefits of involving a private entity in managing the retail operations of ECG.

He argued that such a move could lead to a more efficient collection and billing system.

“ECG is a monopoly, and I don’t want a private individual to have a monopoly over an asset like ECG, but I don’t have a problem assigning an aspect of ECG, like the retail end, to a private player for a more efficient collection and billing system,” Adomako-Mensah stated.

While expressing support for the improvement of ECG’s operations, he cautioned against complete privatisation, deeming it an unwise decision.

The Deputy Minister Designate highlighted the importance of maintaining control over crucial aspects of the national power distribution company.

The proposal for partial privatization comes as part of ongoing efforts to address issues within ECG and enhance its overall performance.

Adomako-Mensah’s stance opens up discussions about finding a balance between private sector involvement and maintaining public control over essential utilities.

The potential move aims to bring about positive changes in ECG’s retail operations, benefiting both the company and consumers alike.

I intend to increase Accra’s water supply if elected President- Mahama

National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama laid out a comprehensive strategy to address the water scarcity issue in Accra, citing the city’s population growth as a contributing factor.

Emphasizing the necessity of proactive measures, Mahama highlighted the impact of Accra’s rapid urbanization on water resources.

While acknowledging previous advancements in water capacity during his and Professor Mills‘ tenures, he expressed concern about the stagnation in expansion efforts in recent years.

Mahama pledged to prioritise the expansion of water supply upon assuming office, citing the imperative need to plan ahead for the city’s continued growth.

“We also want to expand water supply to Accra. Accra is growing very fast. Recently, the Ghana Water Company complained that they can’t keep up with the supply of water because of the fast expansion of water. What you do is you plan ahead, and that is what we did.

“Between Professor Mills’ time and my time, we added 40 million gallons of water to Accra’s water supply. In the last eight years, there has not been a single drop expansion in Accra’s water supply. So why do you expect that the water will be enough?

“This is a city that is growing. And so after we added 40 million gallons, at least in eight years, you should have added another 20 million gallons. We have started planning ahead already that when we come into office, we are going to increase the water supply to Accra,” John Mahama stated during his ‘Building Ghana Tour.

During her appearance on the Day Show discussing the 3FM “Gob3” festival, Berla shared nostalgic memories of her school days, where she and her peers would turn their regular Wednesday or Thursday beans routine into a delightful experience by adding plantain chips purchased from a nearby shop.

Berla emphasised the sheer satisfaction of this unconventional pairing, revealing that she enjoyed it without the traditional addition of gari.

“I remember when I was in school, they would give us beans every Wednesday or Thursday, so I used to go and buy plantain chips,

  • I’m not married to Judy Austin; we’re just skit makers – Yul Edochie

I’m not married to Judy Austin; we’re just skit makers – Yul Edochie

Actor Yul Edochie has publicly denied being married to Judith Austin, despite the existence of their two children.

The revelation comes amid an ongoing divorce case filed by Yul’s estranged wife, May Edochie, who initially considered pressing bigamy charges against him.

May’s legal team, led by Emeka Ugwuonye of Due Process Advocates, disclosed the developments, asserting that Yul and Judy insisted their relationship was solely for skitmaking and lacked any legal recognition.

The court proceedings, scheduled for March 5 at the FCT High Court, faced an unexpected setback attributed to Yul and Judy.

In response to the divorce petition, Yul categorically denied the alleged traditional marriage ceremony with Judy in April 2022, accusing the Gistlover blog of promoting false information.

Judy echoed the denial, emphasising that there was no such ceremony between them.

Citing Yul’s filing, May’s lawyer detailed how the actor denied his marriage to Judy.

He said Yul wrote, “That since the news of the birth of Star in June 2021, Gistlover, as a negative blog that thrives in fake and manipulated information for financial gains, has been negatively exploiting every movie or skit featuring me and Judy and generating social media traffic for financial gains.”

May’s lawyers emphasised that the focus of the case is on divorce grounds of adultery and damages to be claimed from Judy, the alleged adulterous partner.

“May Yul-Edochie has nothing further to prove. Yul and Judy admitted in their sworn statements that they had a child together. That is conclusive evidence of adultery, which is the basis of May’s petition. The law does not require a person to prove what the other party has admitted or conceded,’’ her lawyers said.

Despite Yul and Judy denying any marital connection, May argues that their sworn statements acknowledging their child together serve as conclusive evidence of adultery.

The legal battle unfolds as May Edochie seeks justice in court, accusing her estranged husband and Judy of wrongdoing, while Yul maintains the relationship is confined to skitmaking.

Idris Elba leads construction of smart city project in Sierra Leone

Renowned actor, Idris Elba, in collaboration with Siaka Stevens and Octopus Energy Generation, is spearheading the development of an eco-city on Sierra Leone‘s Sherbro Island, challenging conventional perceptions of Africa.

The ambitious project includes a wind and solar farm to address the country’s electricity shortage, with Elba emphasising the goal of self-reliance over profitability.

With less than a third of homes in Sierra Leone currently having access to electricity, the eco-city aims to be a beacon of innovation, attracting businesses, fostering growth, and reshaping Africa’s narrative beyond the traditional aid model.

Elba envisions a city that not only appeals to tourists but also empowers local communities through sustainable development.

“Are we ever gonna make a profit? I don’t think so, but it is about being self-reliant, it’s about bringing an economy that feeds itself, that has growth potential.

“I’m very keen to sort of reframe the way Africa is viewed. We often view the framing of Africa as an aid model and this opportunity is completely different,” Elba told the BBC Newsday programme.

In addition to the eco-friendly initiatives, Elba plans to establish a film studio and a retirement home for his Ghanaian mother on the island.

The actor, with Sierra Leonean roots, is driven by a desire to change the perception of Africa while creating opportunities for economic growth and innovation in the region.

  • Oti Regional Minister-designate recommends plans for prison reforms

Oti Regional Minister-designate recommends plans for prison reforms

Oti Regional Minister-designate, Daniel Machator has outlined comprehensive plans to revolutionize prisons within the Oti Region.

Advocating for a collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, Machator aims to change prisons into genuine centers of rehabilitation, emphasizing the need to address the inadequate conditions hindering the reformation of inmates.

Expressing concern over what he perceives as “human warehousing” rather than effective imprisonment, Machator pointed out the challenging circumstances that thwart inmates’ chances of meaningful rehabilitation.

He stressed the importance of altering the prevailing conditions that, he believes, contribute to the perception that society is against those incarcerated.

“I think we are rather practicing human warehousing than imprisonment which is supposed to help them reform because at the end of the day, the condition the person finds themselves in within the prison makes the person think society is against them,” Machator stated.

Highlighting a concerning aspect of the current system, Machator disclosed that the daily food budget for each inmate in Ghanaian prisons amounts to a mere GH₵1.80.

“This translates into 60 pesewas breakfast, 60 pesewas lunch and 60 pesewas supper. So you should know that every prison administrator in Ghana is a magician. From 2011 to 2024, an inmate is fed GH₵1.80 pesewas in a day. The GH₵1.80 pesewas should be looked at immediately,” he said.

He called for urgent scrutiny of this budget, emphasising the need for immediate attention to this critical issue that has persisted from 2011 to 2024.

In a bid to address overcrowding within prisons, Machator revealed plans to prioritise the construction of smaller, district-based prisons.

“We should prioritise building smaller prisons in the district, even if it’s a 100-capacity prison so we are not going to overburden other prison facilities.”

He proposed the creation of facilities with a capacity of around 100 inmates, aiming to alleviate the burden on existing prison facilities.

Machator underscored the significance of implementing reformative and rehabilitative procedures, asserting that providing inmates with the opportunity to learn valuable skills is essential.

Whether through vocational training or psycho-social programs led by religious leaders, he emphasised the need for a holistic approach to ensure individuals leave prison with the ability to lead law-abiding lives.

“If it’s a job the person is supposed to learn, the person will learn. If it’s a pastor or Imam taking him through psycho-social training to ensure that the person leaves a law-abiding life after imprisonment, the person will curtail to that. The person will listen to that.”

“So I will engage the Ministry of Interior and other governmental sectors that have something to do with the Ghana Prisons Service to ensure that whatever investment we need to do in the prison service, we do that.”

Concluding his statements, Machator pledged to engage with the Ministry of Interior and other relevant governmental sectors involved with the Ghana Prisons Service.

His goal is to secure necessary investments and support to bring about substantial improvements within the prison service, aligning with his vision for a more effective and humane correctional system.

  • NDC’s choice of running-mate shows they have no plans for the future – Afenyo Markin

NDC’s choice of running-mate shows they have no plans for the future – Afenyo Markin

Parliament witnessed a heated exchange as Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, took aim at the capabilities of John Mahama’s running mate, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, during the concluding debate on the State of the Nation Address.

Accusing her of past failures in key positions, Afenyo-Markin argued that Mahama’s choice reflected the “same old NDC.”

He raised concerns about the absence of a succession plan, criticizing Opoku-Agyemang’s performance in the Education Ministry.

“It is the same old NDC. It is the same old John Mahama. Mr Speaker, perish the thought, should he even get the opportunity he has only four years constitutionally. There would be no sense of urgency in him because he has nothing to lose. Even if you look at his choice of running mate, he could not get somebody that one could say that they are planning for the future.

“The person is over 70 years, we have no succession plan. From day one, their government will be in crisis. They went to pick the very old person who could not perform at the Education Ministry.

“As I submitted earlier, if you even look at how they paraded their leadership, clearly they have not put in place a visionary leadership for the country’s long-term future.

“The flagbearer, constitutionally has just one term. Should that happen, the flagbearer has chosen a running mate, Mr. Speaker. Under normal circumstances, they should have given us a running mate who can offer a future to Ghana.

“Like we have given a flagbearer who represents the future of Ghana. You have brought a running mate who retired from UCC as VC and came to the Ministry of Education to perform abysmally. The E-blocks she could not complete them. She did only 29. Today, you say the running mate should be the future of this country,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

The comments sparked outrage among the NDC members, demanding an apology and withdrawal of the statement.

The Minority caucus expressed their displeasure by banging tables, leading to a suspension of the session by the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah Amoako.

Amidst rising tensions, Banda MP Ibrahim Ahmed insisted on an apology, drawing parallels with President Akufo-Addo’s age. The suspension was eventually lifted after the Majority Leader withdrew his remarks.

NDC’s reaction remained strong, with Ketu South MP Dzifa Gomashie describing Afenyo-Markin’s comments as “despicable.”

She called for an official apology from the NPP leadership, emphasizing the accomplished history of the NDC running mate.

As the session resumed, the controversy took a step back, allowing the proceedings on the State of the Nation Address debate to continue.

  • You can’t break the eight by poisoning your own members – Prophet Oduro to NPP

The aftermath of the untimely passing of former Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah led to the leader of Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro, sharing insights on the alleged poisoning and condemned the use of violence for political gain.

During a Sunday sermon, Prophet Oduro emphasized that power should not be sought through brutal acts like killing, asserting that leaders are appointed by God.

Expressing concern about the political landscape, he questioned the wisdom of resorting to such extreme measures for power, reminding his congregation that the outcome of elections is ultimately in God’s hands.

“A nation that is 67 years is ready to poison people to death. What are they looking for? Power. How sure are you about that power. Who said NPP will win the next election? It is God who makes leaders.

“You are already killing people’s fathers and their husbands? Look at the pain you have caused this young lady pastor. The wife of the MP is a woman of God. You went to touch the anointed of the Lord when the Bible says touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm,” Prophet Oduro stated.

The prophet drew attention to the broader repercussions of political violence in Ghana, citing economic difficulties and developmental setbacks as consequences of past incidents, including the deaths of politicians such as J.B. Danquah Adu and J.B. Danquah senior.

Prophet Oduro also empathised with the family of the deceased, highlighting the pain inflicted on the wife, who he described as a woman of God.

He urged unity and an end to the cycle of violence that has plagued the nation’s political landscape.

Meanwhile, the late John Kumah’s wife, Lilian Kumah, has vehemently denied rumours of poisoning.

In an interview with Asaase radio, she expressed frustration with baseless claims and called for accountability, particularly in response to statements made by Captain Smart alleging foul play in her husband’s death.

“Why is it that someone has been this bold to claim that he knows for a fact that a person like John Kumah who has serviced his country virtually all his life, was poisoned, while he was working for his country and party (New Patriotic Party, NPP), why should we sit down and not bring that person to book.

“If it is true that a person who is not dead but alive claims that he knows how my husband (John Kumah) died and that he was poisoned, and that person is still moving around for the past three weeks, it hurts me, it saddens me and I do not know how best to express my frustrations about these false claims by Captain Smart,” she told Accra-based Asaase radio in an interview.”

John Kumah, who served his country for many years, passed away at the age of 45 on Thursday, March 7, leaving behind a grieving wife and six children.

  • Don’t put your hopes on gov’t for financial aid – King Ampaw to film makers

Don’t put your hopes on gov’t for financial aid – King Ampaw to film makers

Renowned Ghanaian film producer and director, King Ampaw, cautioned fellow filmmakers against relying solely on government financial aid for their movie productions.

Famous for the 1983 film ‘Kukurantumi: Road to Accra,’ King Ampaw emphasised that government funds often fall short of meeting the substantial financial requirements of film production.

Speaking candidly, King Ampaw asserted, “To put the facts down, commercial productions have got very little, not much to do with government. It is purely private business because of the money involved.”

He urged the film industry to reconsider its dependence on government funds, pointing out that the funds provided by the government can only serve as a cushion and are insufficient for full-scale productions.

Highlighting his own experience, King Ampaw revealed that throughout his illustrious career, he never sought financial support from the Ghanaian government.

Instead, he secured backing from the European Union and the German government. “It was through my efforts. The European Union money, they called Africa Pacific and Asia. The money is there in Paris. It is not the government that would apply for you. It is you, the individual producer; you must write your script, you must approach them,” he emphasised.

King Ampaw stressed the importance of filmmakers developing compelling scripts that attract private investors.

He suggested a shift in attitude and mindset, urging filmmakers to proactively seek funding and partnerships beyond government channels.

Meanwhile, the National Film Authority, mandated by the Development and Classification of Film Act (Act 935), assured the industry that plans are underway to establish the Film Development Fund.

The fund aims to provide financial support for the development and production of full-length feature films, short and medium-length feature films, and initiatives focused on public education regarding attitudinal change and cultural values.

Additionally, the fund will support television productions, including drama, animated series, sitcoms, soaps, and comedy, with the goal of fostering positive attitude and behaviour change in the society.
