“Perfect” – Pep Guardiola’s wife makes first public statement after divorce

Christina Serra, the wife of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, has said she is doing fine despite the ongoing reports about their separation.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Christina mentioned that she is managing well and continuing with her daily activities as usual.

She was seen shopping in Barcelona, Spain, when journalists asked her how she was doing.

When asked how she was doing, she replied, “Perfect, thanks.” When asked about her frame of mind, she added, “Everything is fine.”

When asked about her separation from Guardiola, Christina Serra chose to stay silent and did not comment.

Reports from Spain suggest that their breakup was decided in December 2024, just a month after Guardiola extended his contract with Manchester City until 2027.

Although the couple has not made any public statements, they have reportedly informed close friends and family about their decision and requested privacy.

Guardiola and Serra first met in 1994 when he was 23 years old, and she was 17. They got married in 2014 and have three children: Maria, 24; Marius, 22; and Valentina, 17.

In 2019, rumors surfaced that Serra had moved out of Manchester with one of their children to focus on her fashion business, sparking speculation.

Since then, she has split her time between Spain and London while staying in touch with Guardiola, who remains in Manchester.

We will supply sanitary pads to girls in rural areas as we work to waive off taxes – Naa Momo

Minister-Designate for Gender, Naa Momo, has announced plans to provide sanitary pads to girls in rural communities once she assumes office.

Speaking during her vetting on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, she outlined her commitment to addressing the challenges faced by girls in rural areas during their menstrual periods.

“I think this is a conversation we haveto be having until we get to know where to waive of some of the teaxes
iand ensue that we also create a buidget for women and girls to have adequate protection. There is lack of funding to suppourt procurement of pads for girls” she said.

Girls in rural areas struggle with access to menstrual products, forcing many to use unsafe alternatives like old clothes, which can cause infections and other health problems.

The high price of sanitary pads, along with stigma and poor sanitation facilities, makes the situation even worse. Some girls are forced to skip school or take risky actions just to afford pads.

Several advocacy groups, including FemPawa Africa and Focusing on Women and Girls Initiative for Positive Change, have been pushing for tax cuts on menstrual products to make them cheaper and easier to get. Their efforts have made an impact, and in the 2024 budget, the government announced that locally made sanitary pads will no longer be taxed.

This decision is expected to help reduce period poverty and improve menstrual hygiene for girls and women in rural communities.

She however pledged equity in policy implementation for both boys and girls after one of the committes members, Nelson Dafeamekpor when he mentioned how he spends lots of money procuring pads for the girls in his constituency which is ‘costly’ according to him.

FIFA awards 2025 badges to 22 Ghanaian referees

Twenty-two referees from Ghana have received FIFA badges for the 2025 football season. The badges were awarded at a short ceremony held at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) headquarters in Accra on January 21, 2025.

Each year, FIFA gives badges to top-performing referees based on their performance in the previous year and their results in the FIFA Test.

This year, the group includes 10 center referees, 10 assistant referees, one futsal referee, one beach soccer referee, and one video assistant referee (VAR).

Out of the 22 referees, 12 are men and 8 are women, showing Ghana’s growing presence in international refereeing.

GFA President Kurt Okraku congratulated them and reminded them that they represent Ghanaian football on the world stage.

“Your performances have justified the trust CAF and FIFA have in you. This recognition reflects your dedication and excellence,” he said while urging them to aim even higher.

During the ceremony, officials discussed the challenges referees face and stressed the need to maintain high standards. GFA General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, emphasized the importance of consistent performance, as FIFA reviews the badges every year.

President Kurt Okraku, General Secretary Addo, and Referees Appointment Committee Chairperson, Christine Enyonam Zigah, handed out the badges. Other committee members and officials also attended the event.

Younger brother of Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy, Elijah Satekla, has joined Legon Cities on a two-year deal. The midfielder is expected to boost the team as they prepare for the second half of the Ghana Premier League season.

Buem MP, Kofi Adams, says he is ready and capable of leading the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

President John Mahama has nominated him for the position, and he will now face vetting by the Appointments Committee.

At 49 years old, Kofi Adams is set to take over from Mustafa Ussif, who served as Sports Minister since 2021 under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.

“As a party member, I have done enough and knew I was going to play a role in the administration in one form or the other,” he told GHOne TV.

“I was prepared to serve in any Ministry but two [Attorney General and Finance Ministry] and so I am not surprised where I am taking to.

“It is a responsibility. I have identified, studied, followed it [sports] and we can work together as a country and bring our sports to a level that we all desire it should be.”

  • Haaland says Man City’s legal issues didn’t affect his decision to sign a new deal

Haaland says Man City’s legal issues didn’t affect his decision to sign a new deal

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland says the charges against the club did not affect his decision to sign a new long-term contract.

Haaland has agreed to a nine-and-a-half-year deal, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2034, making him one of the world’s highest-paid athletes.

Meanwhile, City are still waiting for the outcome of an investigation into 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules, which could lead to a points deduction or even relegation.

When asked if he had a way out of his new deal should City lose the case, Haaland said: “No, I haven’t thought of that or anything.

“I am confident that the club know what they are doing and I really don’t think I should speak too much about this.”

Manchester City were charged in February 2023 after a four-year investigation and referred to an independent commission.

The club is accused of breaking Premier League financial rules between 2009 and 2018, but City strongly deny all allegations. A private hearing on the case was held between September and December.

Since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Norway striker Erling Haaland has scored 112 goals in 127 matches for City.

Haaland’s original contract, which was set to end in 2027, had certain clauses that have now been removed. There are rumors of a break clause that could take effect in 2029, but neither the club nor his representatives have confirmed this.

His new deal is the longest in Premier League history, surpassing the nine-year contract Chelsea’s Cole Palmer signed in August.

“It is a really good sign,” added Haaland. “Of course it is a bit unusual, it is not normal and that is also something I like.

“It felt good for both parties and in the end it was an easy choice.”

Manchester City will play an important Champions League group stage match against Paris St-Germain at Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

    — BORUSSIA DORTMUND (@BLACKYELLOW) JANUARY 22, 2025

The German team has struggled since the winter break, losing four games in a row across all competitions.

On Tuesday, they were defeated by Bologna, marking their third loss in this season’s Champions League. As last year’s runners-up, they now need a positive result against Shakhtar Donetsk in their final group match to qualify directly for the knockout stage.

In their domestic league, they have lost three consecutive matches in 2025, dropping to 10th place in the Bundesliga. They are now seven points behind the top four, which puts their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League at risk.

“We value Nuri Sahin and his work very much, we hoped for a long-term collaboration and until the end we had hoped that we could achieve a sporting turnaround together,” said Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken.

“This decision hurts me personally, but it was unavoidable after the game in Bologna.”

Sahin, 36, who had two stints at the club as a player, said: “Unfortunately, we have not managed to live up to Borussia Dortmund’s sporting ambitions this season.

“I wish this special club all the best.”

Sahin was appointed Dortmund boss in June 2024 as a replacement for Edin Terzic, who left the club following their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

That was a wrong analysis – Dafeamekpor criticizes Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu over ORAL comments

Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has disagreed with those who question whether the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee is legal.

President John Dramani Mahama set up the ORAL committee to investigate cases of corruption and the misuse of state resources by former government officials.

Speaking in an interview on TV3’s KeyPoints, the South Dayi MP stated that the committee’s work is backed by law.

“I think he got his analysis wrong because the activities of ORAL, the committee that has been set up to do evidence gathering for purposes of some further action by government is probably anchored in law.

He further referenced article 41(f) of the constitution to back the formation of the ORAL committee.
    Article 41 (f) states:

“The exercise and enjoyment of rights and freedoms is inseparable from the performance of duties and obligations, and accordingly, it shall be the duty of every citizen to protect and preserve public property and expose and combat misuse and waste of public funds and property.”

Dafeamekpor was responding to the former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu who opined that the ORAL committee’s modus operandi is against the law.

“I think those including my roommates who are making these complaints fell into an error of legal reasoning,” the South Dayi MP added.

The lawmaker further claimed that criticisms from members of the opposition NPP now smacks of shame and disgrace.

“If a government is rolling out its project and you cannot suggest constructively, don’t question its legality because it is neither here nor there. In fact, some of the criticisms is becoming ignominious, they are falling in ignominy, he noted.

Sammi Awuku lauds Mahama for appointing young people into his government

Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for his recent appointments, especially for choosing young and capable politicians for important government roles.

Speaking on Adom FM, the former CEO of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) said he was impressed by the President’s decisions, calling them a smart way to make use of the skills and knowledge of young leaders.

Awuku particularly praised the appointment of Sammy Gyamfi as head of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), saying it shows the President’s dedication to promoting competence and giving young people a chance in government.

“Let me also commend the president on some of the appointments he has made because he has recruited some young politicians into government. Look at George Opare Addo, he is a solid guy. He’s been the youth organiser, DC, and now the Minister for Youth and Sports.”

“Sammy Gyamfi too has been appointed to oversee the PMMC. A solid guy, and I reject anyone who says he is too small for the position. Who do you expect should be appointed after toiling for his party? Even my successor, Alhaji Mohammed, is a solid man,” he stated.

Reflecting on his tenure as head of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Awuku noted the challenges he faced and emphasized the significance of the NLA’s contributions to the economy and social welfare.

“When I was appointed to oversee the NLA, I heard people from my church raising concerns. I did my best, and now that Alhaji has replaced me, the same thing is happening. But what I want to say is that the profit made from this lottery is used to support the country’s economy and to help the needy as well.”

  • Bank stocks to perform better in 2025 due to strong earnings, dividend upturn – Databank research

Bank stocks to perform better in 2025 due to strong earnings, dividend upturn – Databank research

Bank stocks are poised for strong performance, according to the latest projections from Databank Research in its Ghana Market Outlook 2025 report released in January.

The improved outlook is attributed to increased profits, which have enabled banks to pay higher dividends, sparking renewed interest from investors.

This positive development follows a challenging period that began with the introduction of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) in December 2022. The program involved swapping old domestic bonds valued at GHS 137.3 billion (US$14.3 billion) for new bonds with longer repayment terms and lower interest rates.

Banks holding government bonds incurred significant impairment losses due to the exchange, resulting in a drop in the value of their bond holdings and adversely impacting their balance sheets.

Local banks alone recorded losses of GHS 19.9 billion, while foreign-owned banks suffered GHS 17.8 billion in losses. Some local banks even became technically insolvent, requiring additional capital to recover.

Investor confidence plummeted during this period, as the DDEP undermined the perception of government bonds as risk-free investments. Lower interest rates on the new bonds further heightened investor caution, leading to declining stock prices.

By mid-2024, however, improved economic conditions and regulatory reforms began to restore confidence.

The Financial Stock Index recorded gains of 15% by the end of Q3 2024, reflecting the resurgence of investor interest in banking stocks.

The Databank Research report notes that banking stocks are expected to continue their upward trajectory, supported by strong earnings prospects and the resumption of dividend payouts. “These factors are likely to attract income-focused investors, further boosting the sector’s appeal,” the report stated.

Additionally, the report highlights regulatory changes, including the introduction of a new cash reserve ratio requirement, as a key driver of growth in the banking sector. These reforms are anticipated to enhance asset quality and expand loan portfolios, ultimately boosting profitability.

“We expect banks’ profitability to benefit significantly from loan book expansion and improved asset quality following the regulator’s new cash reserve ratio requirement,” the report added.

As the banking sector rebounds, the renewed optimism among investors underscores the importance of sound economic policies and regulatory measures in driving market recovery and growth.

The outlook for 2025 reflects not only the resilience of Ghana’s banking sector but also the potential for continued economic recovery, presenting a promising opportunity for investors.

Ghanaian artiste manager Bullgod has voiced his support for Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who was appointed as the Minister-designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts by President John Dramani Mahama.

In an interview on United Showbiz on January 18, 2025, Bullgod praised Dzifa Gomashie for her competence and experience, saying she is well-suited for the position.

However, he also pointed out that her success in the role would depend on her ability to consult and work closely with experienced professionals in the creative arts sector.

“If you invest in a woman, it’s a huge deal. Dzifa will do the job, and I’m hoping she includes experienced people during her tenure. We know the loopholes in the industry, so I’m confident she will consult. The past eight years have been nightmares, so I know she’ll do better,” he said.

Bullgod also highlighted his confidence in President Mahama’s leadership, noting the former President’s wealth of experience and his thoughtful selection of appointees.

“There has never been a president in Ghana more experienced than President Mahama. This is the first time we’ve had such an experienced leader. It’s time for him to excel. We must support him based on the decisions he has made. This week, I noticed he has included many women and young people in his appointments,” he added.

On January 16, 2025, President Mahama nominated Dzifa Gomashie, the Member of Parliament for Ketu South, as the Minister-designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.

Gomashie had previously held the position of Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts during Mahama’s administration from 2013 to 2017.

This is the current state of former CHelsea boss Roman Abramovich

Former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is still living in Turkey after being hit with sanctions, and his £500 million ($610 million) superyacht remains marooned.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, the European Union and the UK government imposed sanctions on Abramovich. As a result, he agreed to sell Chelsea for £2.35 billion ($2.87 billion) to Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. However, the money from the sale is reportedly frozen in a bank account and hasn’t been used.

Although Abramovich continues to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle, The Telegraph reports that his freedom to travel the world has been greatly restricted. For now, he is based in Turkey because he can no longer take his usual winter trips to the Caribbean, which were once a big part of his European lifestyle.

The Telegraph claims that Abramovich’s grandest boat, the £500m Eclipse, is moored in “comparatively modest surroundings” on Turkish water. His other vessels are also sat unused after seeing private and professional lives turned upside down.

Abramovich is said to still be worth £7.96 billion ($9.7bn), but he has been forced to set up camp in Turkey amid reports of initially moving into a waterfront property that came with a $40,000-a-month rental bill before basing himself in a sprawling villa that can be found in the upmarket district of Vanikoy on the banks of the Bosporus.

Abramovich had declared “I hope that I will be able to visit Stamford Bridge one last time to say goodbye to all of you in person” when severing ties with Chelsea, but that would appear to have become a distant dream for a man no longer able to travel in style while moving whenever and wherever he wants.

Paul Pogba has revealed that he turned down an offer to move to Russia while he was serving a doping ban. However, he is now focused on making a comeback in the Champions League.

The French star, who won the World Cup, was handed a four-year ban after failing a drug test in September 2023. His suspension was later reduced to 18 months after an appeal, but he was still released by Italian club Juventus.

Pogba will be allowed to return to football in March 2025 and has attracted interest from clubs worldwide. There have been rumors about possible moves to Saudi Arabia, Major League Soccer (MLS), and France’s Ligue 1.

While he was banned from playing, a club from Russia also made an offer, but he decided to reject it.

Pogba snubbed that offer and has told French Twitch streamer AmineMaTue of his ambition: “There are proposals, then there are interesting things, and not so interesting things… Russia, all that, there have been proposals, but that’s not the goal.

We have other goals. A club that plays in the Champions League? Why not. If it comes, of course, why not. We always want to be in the best clubs. After that it doesn’t depend on me, it depends on lots of other things.”

Pogba has been linked with a possible move to Marseille, where he could team up again with his former Manchester United teammate, Mason Greenwood.

Marseille is on track to qualify for the 2025-26 Champions League, which could interest Pogba, as he is used to competing at the highest level for big trophies.

Make Nii Lante Vanderpuye the Sports Minister – Ahlaji Grusah urges Mahama

Owner of King Faisal Football Club, Alhaji Karim Grusah, has suggested that President John Mahama appoint former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye to lead the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

President Mahama, during his campaign, promised to improve sports in Ghana by introducing a National Sports Policy. This policy aims to boost the country’s sports reputation by focusing on better facilities, developing talent, improving management, and ensuring inclusivity while using sports to drive economic and social growth.

Speaking to Asempa FM, Grusah praised Vanderpuye’s experience and believes he is the right person to lead these improvements.

“Nii Lante Vanderpuye has already proven his capabilities, so I’m puzzled about what the NDC is waiting for. I recall that even under the NPP, former President Kufuor considered appointing him as Sports Minister, but internal party unrest prevented it,” Grusah stated.

“Given his track record, I firmly believe Vanderpuye is the right person to revitalize Ghana’s football scene. His experience working with Liberty Professionals and Hearts of Oak, coupled with his background as a sports journalist, make him the ideal candidate.

Since the NDC have returned to power, they should bring him back on board to address Ghana’s football challenges,” he added.

President Mahama has not yet chosen a new Sports Minister, but several well-known figures are being considered for the position.

These include former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye, ex-Asante Kotoko CEO Herbert Mensah, and Buem MP Kofi Adams.

They are being mentioned as possible replacements for the former Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif.

Speaking at his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, January 20, 2025, he stressed the need to secure stable and sufficient funding for the program.

“With emphasis on the future of the Free Senior High School in particular, how to assure it of adequate, reliable, sustainable financing, we will undertake a stakeholder forum which will involve donors and partners, involve academia, parents and students, to review the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

I should acknowledge that it remains one of the boldest steps in wanting to transform education.

“It was a matter of debate between free, universal education, absorbing all the costs, and progressively free, starting with infrastructure. But President Mahama intends to undertake a comprehensive review of it to make it sustainable,” he noted.

The Free SHS program, launched by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017, was designed to make senior high school education more accessible to students across the country.

Although the policy has led to a rise in enrollment, there are ongoing issues with feeding, education quality, and funding.

During the 2024 election campaign, President John Dramani Mahama pledged to continue supporting the program, promising that it would undergo necessary reforms to tackle these challenges.

Haruna Iddrisu says 1st year tertiary students’ admission fees will be refunded

Education Minister-designate, Haruna Iddrisu, has confirmed that first-year public university students will have their admission fees refunded.

He explained that this initiative is part of President John Mahama’s effort to make higher education more affordable.

During his vetting with Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, the Tamale South MP shared that the government plans to allocate GH¢345 million to cover the admission costs for students in general academic programs at public universities, excluding professional courses such as medicine.

“On the authority of President Mahama, and with the approval of the Minister of Finance-designate, Hon. Ato Forson, this provision will be included in the government’s Reset Budget.

The funds will ensure that students undertaking courses in the general subject areas have their admission fees refunded,” Haruna Iddrisu said.

The Minister-designate assured that students who have already paid their admission fees will not be left out.

He added, “And for President Mahama, this is a model to experiment. We will look at it. How do we fare as a country? If it’s possible for expansion, then he will expand it. And he’s not asked that if you are able, you should not.”

The policy is a fulfillment of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto promise during the 2024 election campaign.

It is part of a broader set of reforms aimed at making tertiary education more accessible, particularly for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Adolfo Bautista ‘attacks’ Messi over goal celebration against Club América

Lionel Messi’s goal celebration in Inter Miami’s 2-2 draw with América de México has caused controversy, as many Mexican fans saw his gesture as disrespectful. The incident has added to the long-standing rivalry between Argentine and Mexican supporters.

Mexican football legend Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista also reacted to the celebration, criticizing Messi’s actions.

During the match at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Messi was constantly booed by Mexican fans. In response, after scoring, he held up three fingers—symbolizing Argentina’s three World Cup wins.

Bautista later shared his thoughts on Instagram. Although he praised Messi’s skills, he questioned his professionalism and attitude.

“I looked up to you as a player. But mocking my country shows a lack of professionalism and education,” Bautista wrote in an Instagram story.

He also included a photo of himself evading Messi during their 2010 World Cup encounter in South Africa, a match Argentina won 3-1 in the round of 16.

“Scandalous, absolute disgrace”! – Barcelona’s Laporta fumes over Getafe refereeing

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has strongly criticized the decision not to give a penalty for Jules Koundé in their 1-1 draw against Getafe on Saturday.

In the 81st minute, Koundé was brought down by Christantus Uche while trying to reach a cross at the far post. However, the referee and VAR did not consider it a foul.

Despite Barcelona’s efforts to score a winning goal, they were unable to break through Getafe’s defense. The result extended their winless streak in LaLiga to four games, putting them seven points behind league leaders Real Madrid.

Laporta also mentioned a similar incident in Real Madrid’s win over Getafe in December, where a penalty was awarded for a challenge by Allan Nyom on Antonio Rüdiger. He questioned why Barcelona didn’t get the same decision.

“The refereeing in the game against Getafe was an absolute disgrace,” Laporta told reporters on Monday when asked about the Koundé incident.

“Not giving a penalty for the foul on Koundé is a scandal. A scandal. I think you should watch it back again and again because it’s scandalous.”

While Barça have struggled in LaLiga, their cup performances have been much better. They recently won the Spanish Supercopa with a convincing 5-2 victory over Madrid and have advanced to the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.

Next, they focus on the Champions League with an upcoming away match against Benfica on Tuesday. A win would help them avoid the knockout round and move directly to the round of 16.

Off the pitch, the club is working to secure long-term contracts for their young talents. After renewing Ronald Araújo’s deal last week, sources say midfielders Pedri and Gavi are also close to signing new contracts, as their current ones expire in 2026.

A source revealed that Pedri’s contract extension is expected to be announced by February at the latest, depending on when the club decides to finalize the deal.

The Spanish midfielder is having a great season after overcoming his recent injury struggles.

Meanwhile, defender Eric García might still leave Barcelona this month. Girona’s sporting director, Quique Cárcel, has confirmed the club’s interest in bringing him back after his loan spell with them last season.

“We wanted to sign him in the summer and our intention is to try and bring him in again,” Cárcel told DAZN. “But it depends on Barça’s conditions being realistic for us in terms of what we can do.”

Define Stephen Appiah’s role to prevent future misunderstandings – Augustine Arhinful to GFA

Former Ghanaian footballer Augustine Arhinful has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to clarify Stephen Appiah’s position on the Black Stars Management Committee.

Arhinful thinks it is not ideal to assign Appiah the role of handling player relations, as the head coach, who works with the players daily, is in a better position to manage them.

He pointed out that there seems to be an issue with player management, and having an independent person to mediate could be helpful.

Speaking to Sporty FM, Arhinful called on the GFA to clearly define Appiah’s responsibilities to prevent any misunderstandings.

“I think the GFA must explain further what they mean by player relations because the best relations are established when the coach interacts with the players daily to understand how they are doing,” Arhinful said.

“I believe they have noticed something within the team, so they need someone like Stephen Appiah to come on board and interact with the players in a brotherly way to align them with the GFA’s expectations,” he added.

This comes after the GFA announced that Appiah will be in charge of player relations as the Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee.

In his new role, the former Black Stars captain will work closely with the Committee Chairman, Dr. Randy Abbey, to offer the needed support.

Ancelotti to reportedly part ways with Real Madrid at the end of the season

Renowned Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly decided to leave Real Madrid at the end of the 2024/25 season, despite having a contract that runs until June 2026.

According to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, which shared the news on Monday, January 20, 2025, Ancelotti’s decision appears to be final and is not influenced by the team’s performance or potential trophies this season.

Despite his planned departure, Ancelotti continues to have the full support of the club’s management, who have stood by him through recent challenges.

With his exit on the horizon, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has emerged as the frontrunner to replace him.

Alonso, currently under contract with Leverkusen until June 2026, is seen as the top candidate for the Real Madrid job.

Ancelotti will depart as the most successful coach in the club’s history, having secured an impressive 15 trophies over his two tenures.

Between his first stint from 2013 to 2015 and his return in 2021, Ancelotti has guided Real Madrid to remarkable achievements, including three UEFA Champions League titles, two La Liga championships, two Copa del Rey titles, two Spanish Supercopas, three UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups, and an Intercontinental Cup.

Road toll collection to go digital, no more physical barriers – Kwame Agbodza

Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that road tolls will be brought back in a new, modern way. The updated system will use technology, so there will be no need for physical toll booths on the roads.

His remarks come in response to his stance on the reintroduction of the road tolls during his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Monday, January 20.

“Yes the road tolls is coming back, but not in the form of building obstructios on the road for drivers to stop for somebody to take money from them, it will be coming back based on a technological platform that will make it fair” he said.

This would make the collection easy, fair and ensure accountability of the revenue collected he said.

“…that makes it easy to collect, easy to account for, for the publuc to know what the money is being used for.
Together with the road minister we shall come out with a policy as to how its going to be done”.

Mr Agbodza’s initiative would mark a shift in the traditional way of collecting tolls manually where drivers make payment to attendants; which was also a major cause of trffic in some areas of the country.

Meanwhile, Kofi Bentil, Vice President of IMANI Ghana, has recommended an increase in toll rates upon the government’s hint of reintroduction. According to Mr. Bentil, toll booths are an inefficient and costly revenue collection method, often leading to long vehicle queues.

He suggested increasing toll rates while adopting a modern, electronic toll collection system to reduce congestion and improve efficiency.

  • Neymar seeks a return to Santos over MLS – Sources

Neymar seeks a return to Santos over MLS – Sources

Brazilian forward Neymar is considering ending his contract with Al Hilal to return to Santos, rather than moving to MLS, sources told ESPN.

Last week, ESPN reported that Neymar, whose contract with the Saudi Pro League club ends in June, was in early discussions with three MLS teams, including the Chicago Fire.

Although Neymar has previously expressed interest in playing in MLS one day, he has not indicated when that might happen.

Al Hilal coach Jorge Jesus recently said that Neymar “can no longer play at the level we are used to” and that the forward would not be registered to play in the Saudi Pro League for the second half of the season.

Neymar, 32, is recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up in November in just his second game back after being sidelined for a year following a torn ACL and meniscus in his left knee.

With no regular playing time guaranteed at Al Hilal, sources have told ESPN that Neymar has held discussions with Santos over a deal that would see him return to the club for six months. Sources insist that wages would not be a hurdle for his return.

Neymar, however, will attempt to negotiate an exit from Al Hilal that would see him receive some of the contract money owed from his initial two-year deal with the SPL club.

Santos CEO Pedro Martins appeared to rule out taking Neymar on loan from Al Hilal. When asked about the star’s potential return, Martins said: “There is nothing advanced, nothing closed. The club is monitoring Neymar’s situation to see how he will resolve his case with his current club.

“Neymar has a contract with the club. If they resolve it there, we will evaluate what the possibility of coming here could look like.”

‘We are back’ – Excited Pep after 6-0 win over Ipswich Town

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola believes his team has regained their top form after a dominant 6-0 victory over Ipswich Town on Sunday, which lifted them into the Premier League’s top four.

After struggling for the past two months, City bounced back in style, with Phil Foden scoring twice and providing an assist, while Erling Haaland also found the net. The crucial win took their points tally to 38, placing them in fourth position.

“We are really pleased, we are back to doing things that define this team for the last 10 years.

Really pleased for the three points and to climb into qualification for the Champions League for next season,” Guardiola told Sky Sports after the match.

After struggling with inconsistent performances before and after Christmas, Manchester City finally got back on track with their win against Ipswich.

Guardiola was pleased with how his team performed.

“Much better, maybe not our best, but closer with the consistency we have in our game … Everyone with the ball was clever, quicker, faster, everyone is related. You cannot be quick, wise and good if you are not connected defensively,” Guardiola said.

For Ipswich, who remain in 18th place in the table on 16 points, the drubbing was a valuable footballing lesson.

Unforgivable! – Gary Neville slams Partey over costly error in Arsenal’s draw against Aston Villa

Former Manchester United player and football analyst, Gary Neville, has criticized Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey for his performance in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League on January 18, 2024.

Neville questioned why Partey failed to mark Ollie Watkins properly, which led to Watkins scoring a crucial goal.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville described Partey’s mistake as “unforgivable” and said it cost Arsenal the chance to stay ahead in the match.

However, he praised Watkins for capitalizing on the defensive error to secure a point for Aston Villa.

“You can see Partey marking Watkins, and then it’s unforgivable, really, that he just steps back out and doesn’t go with him. He deserved his goal,” Neville said while speaking on Sky Sports.

Despite Arsenal’s dominance in the game, they failed to retain their 2-0 lead after Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz put them ahead.

Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins scored two goals, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

Arsenal’s title hope now hang in the balance as they trail league leaders Liverpool by six points.

“And so what?” – Opeele slams critics over Mahama using his brother’s private jet

Former coach of Asante Kotoko, Isaac Opeele Boateng, has jumped to the defence of President John Dramani Mahama for using his brother, Ibrahim Mahama’s, private jet.

According to him, since using the jet does not cost the nation any money, there should not be a problem.

He noted that President Mahama has been gracious to the nation compared to how the previous government spent heavily on private jets for international travels.

Coach Opeele chided those criticizing the president and rejected claims of conflict of interest.

“What is so wrong with President Mahama using his brother’s private plane to save Ghana money?

“Some say it will bring conflict of interest. And so what? We saw one family do worse to Ghana in eight years. Mahama is even charitable; I wish he chartered Emirates Airline instead,” he wrote on X.

This comes after some Ghanaians expressed concerns over President Mahama’s use of a private jet for his recent state visits to Gambia and Senegal.

The president, who embarked on the visits, used the “Dzata” private jet, an aircraft owned by his brother, Ibrahim Mahama.

“We are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Man Utd” – Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim has admitted that his Manchester United team could be the worst in the club’s history after their 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

United struggled throughout the match and couldn’t manage a single shot on target from open play as Brighton controlled the game at Old Trafford.

This defeat marks Amorim’s fourth home loss in the Premier League since he replaced Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed at the end of October.

“We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach,” Amorim said. “I have full knowledge of that. I am not going to change, no matter what.

“I know we can succeed but we need to survive this moment. I am not naive. We need to survive now. We are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United.

“I know you want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go: your headlines.”

After securing good results against Liverpool and Arsenal, Amorim stated that the matches against Southampton and Brighton would reveal more about his players.

Although United managed a 3-1 victory over Southampton, the league’s bottom team, they faced a tough challenge and narrowly avoided a setback. However, they were thoroughly outplayed in their defeat to Brighton.

Since taking charge, Amorim has lost seven out of 15 matches. United currently sit in 13th place on the table, just five spots and 10 points above the relegation zone.

“Everybody here is underperforming, no matter what the circumstances, we are underperforming and have to accept that,” Amorim said.

“It’s unacceptable to lose so many games. For any Premier League club, imagine Manchester United. So it’s a really hard moment but we have to continue, we have to continue, there is no other way. We need to suffer and continue.”

Dan Kwaku Yeboah tips Nii Lante Vanderpuye as the best sports minister Ghana has had in the last decade

Popular sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has endorsed Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, a former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, as the best choice for the position of Minister of Sports and Recreation under John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

According to Kwaku Yeboah, Nii Lante Vanderpuye is the most capable sports minister Ghana has had in the past decade, praising his vast experience and expertise.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo program, Kwaku Yeboah stated that Vanderpuye is far ahead of anyone who has previously held the position and should be reappointed to help develop Ghana’s sports sector.

He further explained that Vanderpuye’s background as both a sports journalist and a former sports minister gives him the skills and understanding needed to effectively address the challenges in the industry.

“Even under Nana Addo, Nii Lante should have been the sports minister. Because he was once a sports journalist, he understands the industry and what needs to be done to improve the sector. He’s no pushover. During his time, he ensured effective management of resources. He’s been my best sports minister for the past ten years,” he said.

Dan Kwaku Yeboah’s endorsement comes at a time when reports suggest that Nii Lante Vanderpuye is the leading candidate for the position of Minister of Sports and Recreation in the new government.

According to the reports, Vanderpuye and Kofi Adams are the two main contenders for the role, with Vanderpuye having a slight advantage due to strong public support for him.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye previously served in various government roles. In March 2013, he was appointed Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry under President John Mahama. A year later, in 2014, he was moved to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development as Deputy Minister, where he served until 2015.

In 2015, after a cabinet reshuffle, he became the Minister of Youth and Sports, taking over from Dr. Mustapha Ahmed.

Former spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng has congratulated Haruna Iddrisu on his nomination as Minister of Education. He also noted the high expectations Ghanaians have for him in this role.

Speaking to JoyNews, Mr Kwarteng said, “I wish Haruna Iddrisu the best as he embarks on this important new role. I genuinely expect him to do well, he said.

“While I’m not here to offer premature praise, I believe that during our time at the Ministry, we worked hard to serve the nation to the best of our abilities, and I trust Haruna will do the same.”

He continued, “Expectations are always high in such positions, no matter where one stands. Ghanaians, in particular, have a strong interest in the education sector, and I am confident that Haruna will not only meet these expectations but will exceed them.”

Mr Kwarteng also highlighted that Haruna’s personal ambitions would be a key driving force in his success.

“I understand that he has significant aspirations for the future, and this will undoubtedly motivate him to give his best. It is in his own interest to perform well, as the impact of his work will extend far beyond his tenure,” he explained.

He further emphasised the vital role of the education sector, noting its far-reaching influence on society. “Education touches everyone in some way. Nearly every Ghanaian has been shaped by the education system, and people naturally care deeply about how it is managed. As a result, scrutiny is inevitable, but that comes with the role,” Mr Kwarteng said

Despite the challenges ahead, Mr Kwarteng remains optimistic about Haruna’s potential. “Public figures in education will always face intense scrutiny, but that’s part of the responsibility. I have no doubt that Haruna Iddrisu will rise to the occasion, and all that I can say is that I wish him every success as he takes on this important responsibility,” he concluded.

Public officers must declare assets, understand the code of conduct – CHRAJ

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has urged public officials, especially those in the new government and ninth Parliament, to familiarize themselves with the “Code of Conduct for Public Officers” outlined in Chapter 24 of the 1992 Constitution.

In a statement on Thursday, January 16, CHRAJ stressed the importance of ethical behavior, avoiding conflicts of interest, and upholding integrity in public service.

The Commission reminded public officers that their roles come with a responsibility to serve the public with accountability and dedication. According to Article 284 of the Constitution, officials must avoid situations where their personal interests clash with their official duties.

CHRAJ also pointed out the legal requirement under Article 286(1) and the Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act, 1998 (Act 550), which mandates public officers to declare their assets and liabilities to the Auditor-General before assuming office.

The Commission raised concerns about the lack of awareness or disregard for these constitutional requirements by many public officials, leading to unethical practices and governance issues.

“…The Commission notes from experience that public officers have either treated the Code of Conduct with contempt or, in the case of new public officers, simply ignored it, thereby occasioning all manner of unethical conduct and behavior,” part of the statement read.

To address these issues, CHRAJ urged all public officers to take immediate steps to comply with asset declaration requirements and acquaint themselves with the Code of Conduct.

“Consequently, the Commission urges public officers of the new government and the ninth Parliament in particular, and all public officers generally, to take immediate steps to familiarize themselves with the Code of Conduct and to declare their assets in accordance with the law before taking office,” CHRAJ said.

The Commission also urged the government to speed up the approval of the Conduct of Public Officers Bill. This would help create a stronger legal foundation for promoting ethical governance.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested that Thomas Partey, the Black Stars midfielder, could leave the club at the end of the season.

During a pre-match press conference, Arteta discussed Arsenal’s plans for the future, noting that some players will have expiring contracts.

Future of Otto Addo to be decided at next Executive Council Meeting

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has announced that the Executive Council will decide Otto Addo’s future in their upcoming meeting.

The 49-year-old coach is under pressure after failing to qualify the Black Stars for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), ending a 20-year streak of participation in the tournament.

Ghana’s performance in the qualifiers was disappointing, with three losses and three draws in six matches, leaving them at the bottom of Group F with only three points. In 2024, the team managed just two wins out of 10 games.

Calls for Addo’s removal have been growing following this poor performance.

While Addo has submitted his technical report to the Executive Council, Asante Twum clarified that no final decision has been made yet.

“To be honest, the very day Otto Addo presented his report, the Executive Council held about a seven-hour meeting, and all the members of the Council, except Kwesi Appiah, made their views known,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“The areas of concern, including player management, tactics, and call-ups, were all discussed, but I cannot read the body language of everybody and say they want him [Otto Addo] to stay or go. What I know is that there was no decision made.”

“What I know is that a decision will be made at the next Executive Council meeting,” he added.

Addo, who took over from Chris Hughton, was reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year contract with a two-year extension option.

Reports from Catalonia suggest that Guardiola had considered taking a break from football and relocating to Abu Dhabi with Cristina, where their son Marius lives.

The separation is believed to have been finalized in December 2024, just a month after Guardiola signed a new deal with Manchester City that will keep him until 2027.

While no official statement has been made, the couple has reportedly told their close circle about their decision, asking them to keep it private.

Pep Guardiola and Christina Serra first met in 1994 when he was 20 and she was 17. They got married in 2014 and have three children: Maria, 24, Marius, 22, and Valentina, 17.

In 2019, it was reported that Serra had left Manchester with one of their children to focus on her fashion business, which raised some concerns. Following this, she split her time between Spain and London, while keeping in contact with Guardiola, who was in Manchester.

Though there were reports about their separation, the exact reasons behind it have not been made public.

With a challenging start to the 2024/2025 season, Guardiola is expected to focus on his managerial role and work on improving Manchester City’s performance.

GFA defends Black Stars player withdrawals from Angola, Niger games

Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), explained why several important Black Stars players were missing from Ghana’s last two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

In November 2024, the GFA announced that eight key players, including Inaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo, and Tariq Lamptey, had pulled out of the squad.

This led to disappointment among fans, with some questioning the players’ dedication to the national team.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Asante Twum defended the players, stating that their absences were due to legitimate reasons and not a lack of commitment.

“Tariq was injured. Semenyo’s club report indicated that, with his heavy workload, he was at risk of injury. Joseph Paintsil’s situation was family-related—his wife was about to give birth, and the coach granted him permission to be with her.

These were legitimate reasons, not because we doubted qualification,” he explained.

Asante Twum also highlighted the sacrifices these players make to represent Ghana, urging fans to show understanding.

Sometimes, I put myself in their shoes. These players make a lot of sacrifices to play for Ghana. As soon as their club matches during international windows end, they rush to join the national team. That commitment should not go unnoticed,” he added.

Sack Otto Addo and not his assistants – GFA told

Former Ghanaian footballer Mohammed Gargo has denied reports suggesting that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) plans to fire John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann from their roles as assistant coaches of the Black Stars.

Gargo explained that removing the assistant coaches would not solve the team’s issues since they follow the instructions of the head coach.

He emphasized that head coach Otto Addo is responsible for most of the decisions, and therefore, any accountability should fall on him, not the assistants.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Gargo recommended that the GFA consider dismissing Otto Addo instead, as the assistants play a smaller role in the team’s performance.

“Whenever a team wants to dismiss its technical team, it should start with the head coach, as they are responsible for the team’s performance. The head coach gives instructions to assistants, who carry out the day’s business, including training sessions and preparations.

“So, if changes are to be made, the entire technical team should go, making way for a new team that can potentially do better. However, it’s unfair to sack the assistants and retain the head coach. In post-match interviews, Otto Addo has taken responsibility for the team’s performance,” Gargo said.

This follows reports that the GFA intends to part ways with Black Stars assistant coaches John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann as part of a plan to overhaul the technical team.

As the 2026 World Cup qualifiers resume in March 2025, the Black Stars will face Chad at home and travel to Madagascar.

Video: See how Ghana’s Kamaldeen Sulemana gave Man Utd a ‘hard time’ in 3-1 loss clash

Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana delivered an impressive performance for Southampton in their Premier League game against Manchester United on Thursday, January 17, 2025.

Sulemana had a great match and came close to scoring a hat-trick but missed some key chances.

He consistently outplayed Manchester United defender Lenny Yoro, using his speed and skill to get past the French player multiple times.

His standout display caught the attention of Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim, who admitted that his team struggled to handle the Ghanaian winger’s pace and strength.

“A very difficult game. They did a very good job, Southampton, creating spaces between the lines. Their number 20 [Sulemana] had a lot of space behind, and we had a hard time stopping that player,” Amorim said after the game.

Ivorian winger Amad Diallo stole the spotlight as Manchester United staged a thrilling comeback to beat Southampton 3-1.

Southampton seemed poised to take all three points after benefiting from an own goal by Ugarte. However, Amad leveled the score and then netted twice in the final four minutes, securing his hat-trick and sealing United’s victory.

With this win, Manchester United climbed from 15th to 12th on the Premier League table, amassing 26 points from 21 matches. Meanwhile, Southampton remains rooted at the bottom, with only six points from 21 games.

Erling Haaland has committed to Manchester City with a record-breaking nine-and-a-half-year contract, securing his stay at the club until the summer of 2034.

With this extension, the Norwegian striker will become the Premier League’s highest-paid player, earning over £500,000 per week—the first-ever player to reach such a figure.

This new deal replaces his previous contract, which was due to expire in 2027, ensuring Haaland remains at the Etihad Stadium until he turns 34.

According to Graeme Bailey, Haaland’s earnings will significantly increase through bonuses and image rights, further boosting his income.

This announcement ends speculation about Real Madrid’s interest in the 24-year-old forward.

Haaland shared his excitement about the new deal, expressing his commitment to a long-term future with Manchester City.

“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club.

“Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters, and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody,” he said.

Since joining City in June 2022 from Borussia Dortmund, Haaland has scored 111 goals in 126 games and has lifted two Premier League titles, the Champions League, an FA Cup, and a Super Cup.

FIFA Forward program: Ivory Coast secures state-of-the-art Technical Centre

FIFA through the FIFA Forward Program set to fund the renovations and rehabilitation of a state-of-the-art Technical Centre for the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF).

The National Technical Centre, funded by the FIFA Forward Program, will serve as the training and operation centre for all Ivorian national teams.

The new technical centre will boast of a medical centre, a gym of 400 square meters, a storage facility, a food court, meeting rooms, a 30-room residential unit, modernised swimming pools and training facilities.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday with the presence of the President of the Ivorian Senate Kandia Camara, FIF President Mr Yacine Idriss Diallo, CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba and FIFA Deputy Chief Member Associations Director, and Regional Director for Africa Gelson Fernandes.

The renovation is expected to cost more than USD 4 million funded exclusively by the FIFA Forward program, which supports developmental projects in Member Associations.

“We are celebrating a historic moment. The laying of the first brick of the renovated national centre of the Ivorian Football Federation. This symbolic act marks the beginning of an ambitious project bringing dynamism and guaranteeing a future for football in Cote d Ivoire” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

“Once fully renovated, this centre will not only be a national football centre, it will become a real symbol of hope and opportunity, a springboard for young players, coaches and football enthusiasts, which will fly the flag for Cote d Ivoire and the whole of Africa during international competitions” Infantino added.

FIF President Diallo eulogised his predecessors for their visionary efforts towards the realization of this dream.

“This centre was initially created by my predecessor, Jacques Anouma. At the time, there were ambitions to make it a high-level national centre. Unfortunately, after its construction, it remained somewhat stagnant. When we came in, we ensured it was going to be a strong project, to truly offer full capacities for young people. It is a centre dedicated to the training of both girls and boys. For us, it is an essential tool for the development of elite youth football,” Diallo said.

The event was attended by over 25 African Football Association presidents, including Alfred Randriamanampisoa of Madagascar, Samuel Eto’o of Cameroon, Ibrahim Musa Gusau of Nigeria, Mathurin de Chacus of Benin, and Jean-Guy Blaise Mayolas of Congo, among others.

The FIFA Forward Program, launched in 2016 by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, is the world’s largest sports development initiative. It aims to distribute FIFA’s revenue equally among its 211 Member Associations.

By the end of 2026, FIFA is projected to have invested an unprecedented $5 billion in football development projects worldwide.

CLOGSAG advises Mahama to scrap TVET and COTVET

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) has urged President Mahama to abolish agencies like the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and the Commission for Technical and Vocational Educational Training (COTVET), arguing that they duplicate the roles of the Civil Service.

CLOGSAG stated that the Civil Service already handles technical and vocational training as part of its duties, but the creation of these agencies has weakened some ministries.

Isaac Bampoe Addo, Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, shared this view in an exclusive interview with labour affairs correspondent Daniel Opoku, following President Mahama’s recent announcement about merging some ministries.

“The President should also look at services that are being hived off from the Civil Service, I think it is wrong is a duplication, is just creating roles so those two must be halted,” he said.

According to Mr Bampoe Addo the agencies are a waste of government resources.
“…TVET and COTVET they are really unnecessary, just to create another bureaucracy…these are institutions that did not exist they have their mandate but the whole thing was done haphazardly no recourse to the councils involved,” Mr Bampoe Addo added.

In a related development, Mr Bampoe Addo has appealed to President Mahama to re-introduce the general orders policy.
“Let’s bring back the general orders, we used to have a system we call general orders. It will give the processes on any transaction and in the Service, there is nothing like discretion.

“But these general orders have been thrown out and is like people are doing things with their discretion, let’s bring back the general orders” he noted.

“we had some difficulties stopping that player” – Man Utd’s Ruben Amorim on Kamaldeen Sulemana

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admitted that his team struggled to defend against Kamaldeen Sulemana during their victory over Southampton.

The Ghanaian winger caused problems for United’s defense multiple times during the Premier League match at Old Trafford on Thursday, January 16.

Kamaldeen completed the most dribbles in the game and frequently got past Leny Yoro on Southampton’s left-wing attack.

Although Amad Diallo scored three goals in the final 12 minutes to secure a win for United, Amorim acknowledged the challenges posed by the Black Stars winger.

“They (Southampton) did a very good job creating spaces between the lines,” Amorim said.

“Their number 20 [Kamaldeen Sulemana], with a lot of space behind him, we had some difficulties stopping that player.”

Manuel Ugarte’s own goal, caused by a clever flick from Tyler Dibling, gave Southampton the lead before Amad Diallo’s hat-trick turned the game around.

This match marked Kamaldeen Sulemana’s third Premier League start of the season.

Mbappe became a bit jealous after Messi’s arrivalat PSG – Neymar tells the genesis of fights with teammate

Brazilian footballer Neymar has shared that his relationship with French player Kylian Mbappé grew tense after Lionel Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Neymar explained that he initially had a good relationship with Mbappé and often admired his incredible football talent.

However, things reportedly changed between them when Messi transferred to PSG from Barcelona, starting a new chapter for the club.

“Mbappé wasn’t annoying at first! When Messi arrived, I think he became a little jealous… We had a little fight. He was like a younger brother to me; I used to call him ‘Golden Boy.’ I spoke to him, played with him, and told him he’d become one of the best.

“I always helped and had conversations with him. When Leo arrived, he became a little jealous. He didn’t want to share me with anyone! [laughs] That’s how the fights started, and his behavior changed,” Neymar narrated, as shared by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X.

Former ECG MD justifies under-declaring revenues, he says it’s not a criminal offence

Former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has stated that under-declaring revenues is not a criminal offence.

He responded to a recent report claiming that ECG had failed to account for millions of generated revenue, saying there was no issue with this.

In an interview with JoyNews’ Kofi Kyei on The Pulse on Thursday, January 16, Mahama defended his time at ECG, explaining that discrepancies occurred because the company had to cover its expenses, like salaries, before submitting revenue to the government.

“Let’s look at the salary bill of ECG. Let’s consider how much ECG needs to keep the lights on in your districts, including maintenance on the lines. Where do you expect ECG to get that money from if ECG gives all the money it receives away?” he argued.

Mr. Mahama also explained that the under-declaration was due to several factors, such as fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, where the rising value of the US dollar increases the cost of the cedi.

The 2025 Ghana Energy Sector Recovery Programme (GESRP) report reveals that ECG under-declared a total of GH₵490 million between October and December 2023.
