Renowned international fashion model, Belinda Baidoo, has called on the government and private investors to support Ghana’s fashion industry with financial backing.
She noted that the industry, despite its great potential, lacks proper funding and attention, which limits its ability to gain global recognition.
Speaking to Graphic Showbiz, Baidoo emphasized that the fashion sector is vital for creating jobs, generating income, and boosting the country’s economy.
“The fashion industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country, yet it continues to face neglect.
This is an industry that can provide employment and boost economic growth if the right attention is given to it,” she stated.
She appealed to the government to reduce the heavy taxes on fashion imports and offer financial support to local manufacturers, designers, and retailers to ease their financial challenges.
“We need funds. The government needs to pour funds into fashion. What we overlook is what some of us have dedicated our whole lives to. We need to support the creative side of the industry.
The women at Makola, the local manufacturers, the very people who import these items for mass production, and the entrepreneurs striving to grow their businesses — these are the people who need help.
“When tourists visit Ghana, they shop everywhere, not just in fancy stores. Supporting these local players is crucial if we want to see growth in our industry, just like what is happening elsewhere,” she added.
Skit maker Ben South has shared how his recent collaboration with Sarkodie has had a positive impact on his career.
In an interview with Zion Felix on January 9, 2025, Ben noted that 2024 was a breakthrough year for him.
He explained that after working with Sarkodie on his single “No Sir,” he was generously compensated.
“2024 has been my best year yet. It was a turning point in my life when Sarkodie reached out to me and expressed interest in working together. The payment I received from him was substantial, and I am confident I will be able to use it wisely. Working with Sarkodie has definitely boosted my career,” he said.
Ben South also recounted how he unexpectedly received a visa to visit the Netherlands for the first time.
He shared that he only met the person who facilitated his visa when he was returning to Ghana after his trip.
“In 2024, something truly miraculous happened. A kind individual arranged my visa for me without me even knowing.
“I only met this person when I was heading back to Ghana. I had casually mentioned my desire to travel, and this person, who admired my work, took it upon himself to make it happen.
“He asked for my passport and bank statement, and before I knew it, everything was sorted without any cost,” he explained.
In December 2024, Sarkodie released his highly anticipated single “No Sir.”
On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court appeared likely to support a law that could lead to the sale or ban of the popular appTikTok in the United Statesby January 19.
The court’s discussions mainly centered on concerns over national security risks posed by the app’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance.
The justices questioned whether the Chinese government could exploit TikTok to spy on Americans or influence public opinion.
Chief Justice John Roberts directly asked TikTok’s lawyer, Noel Francisco, whether the app’s Chinese ownership could be ignored, considering the potential for ByteDance to be compelled to assist China’s intelligence efforts.
TikTok, ByteDance, and app users have sued to block the law, arguing that it violates the First Amendment, which protects free speech. However, a lower court previously upheld the law, dismissing these claims.
While some justices raised concerns about the impact on free speech, the focus remained on the risks of a foreign-owned platform collecting data on 170 million American users.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh highlighted the long-term dangers, such as the possibility of China using user data for espionage, blackmail, or recruitment. TikTok’s lawyer argued that the law unfairly targets speech and could shut down the app entirely unless ByteDance divests.
Francisco also requested the court to delay the law’s implementation, noting President-elect Donald Trump’s preference for a political resolution when he takes office on January 20.
Liberal Justice Elena Kagan brought up a historical comparison, questioning whether similar actions against the American Communist Party during the Cold War would have been constitutional.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Solicitor General, Elizabeth Prelogar, defended the law, asserting that TikTok poses a severe national security threat due to the Chinese government’s potential to misuse the platform for espionage or propaganda.
Francisco countered that Congress could not force a company like ByteDance to sell TikTok without violating constitutional rights.
He presented a hypothetical scenario where China could coerce media outlets like The Washington Post but insisted that such forced sales would still infringe on rights.
Prelogar argued that Congress has the authority to act to protect American users and their data from foreign adversaries. She highlighted the risk of China using TikTok’s vast data for covert operations that could harm U.S. interests.
According to her, TikTok’s algorithm, which curates content for users, is part of its speech, and the law directly restricts this.
As the January 19 deadline approaches, the Supreme Court must decide whether to uphold the law or grantTikTok temporaryrelief while the case continues.
Ghanaian rappers Medikal and Amerado have sparked a heated argument on social media over who holds the title of the ‘best rapper’ in the country.
The clash started when Amerado took to X (formerly Twitter) to claim that he deserves to win the ‘Artiste of the Year’ award at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards, citing his hard work in 2024.
“Artiste of the Year conversation without Amerado under the 2024 Year of Review is an exposure of ignorance and consequently brutal to the industry and upcoming ones,” he wrote, highlighting a long list of achievements.
Medikal, however, disagreed with this assertion and boldly claimed that he could easily overshadow any rapper in Ghana, including Amerado.

“I fi ghostwrite rap for your favourite rapper and still kill am on a song, nobody de rap pass Medikal for Ghana I swear. And that’s why I’m the highest-paid rapper in the country too! … Beyond,” he stated.
Medikal then sided with a fan’s claim that Amerado is nowhere near him, stating, “He no fi sellout Linda dor sef.”
In a sharp response, Amerado satirically jabbed Medikal, labelling him a ‘sellout’ and referencing a past incident where Medikal exposed his wife, Fella Makafui that she had undergone surgery for a flat tummy and used it to promote ‘flat tummy tea’ products.
“That’s right and I nor fit sell out my girl ein secrets too sia! Tell everybody about your flopped New York show you cancelled last year Obiaa ansi hor…..2025 who dey listen to Mia me dokono? Jon,” Amerado replied.

Famous gospel musician and founder of the Rockhill Church in the U.S., Sonnie Badu, has predicted that President John Dramani Mahama will become a pastor in the future.
In a post on Instagram, Sonnie Badu shared that President Mahama’s return to power for a second term is a step toward his eventual calling into ministry.
“Now that His Excellency has fulfilled the comeback mission, there is one more hurdle to overcome; call it a prophecy. His Excellency will soon be ordained as a pastor,” he wrote.
He added, “He might become the first pastor to serve as a president. @officialjdmahama, congratulations in advance!”
John Dramani Mahamawas sworn in on January 7, 2025, as the 6th President of Ghana’s 4th Republic, taking over from Nana Akufo-Addo.
The ceremony, held at the Black Star Square in Accra, was led by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
This marks a remarkable comeback for Mahama, who previously served as president from 2013 to 2017.
After losing the 2016 elections, he ran twice more before securing a decisive win in 2024, becoming the first president in Ghana’s 4th Republic to lose an election and later return to power.
On January 8, 2025, Sarkodie shared the message, “Back to gari soakings like we never left,” which sparked debate online.
Many social media users interpreted the post as a subtle comment on President John Dramani Mahama’s return to power on January 7, following his win in the 2024 elections.
But speaking on this development during a discussion on his “The Street Is Watching” podcast on January 9, 2025, DJ Slim sternly criticised the Sark Nation boss.
He said if the comment had a political undertone, then Sarkodie should be ashamed.
“If this has a political undertone, Sarkodie, you should bow your head in shame wherever you find yourself. You have disappointed us so much,” he said.
DJ Slim also criticised the timing of Sarkodie’s post, stating that it was poorly timed for the message it conveyed.
“I think this is the wrong statement for him based on the time. The post could mean different things, but the timing suggests he has publicly declared himself as a member of the New Patriotic Party,” he added.
Between 2013 and 2016, the rapper used his music to express his concerns, with his 2014 song “Inflation” standing out as a clear critique of Mahama’s leadership.
However, during President Akufo-Addo’s time in office, Sarkodie remained unusually quiet, even though his fans repeatedly urged him to speak out.

The couple appeared happy and beaming, dressed in various outfits as they lovingly touched Marie’s bump.
In one of the photos, Moses Bliss was seen kissing the bump.
The announcement has been met with a flood of congratulatory messages from fans and well-wishers.

The couple got engaged in London on January 19, 2024, and then had a civil wedding in Abuja, Nigeria, on February 27.

President of Ghana Premier League side Young Apostles Samuel Anim Addo says he is willing to comply with the regulations of theGhana Football Associationfollowing the Disciplinary Committee’s charge.
The former Executive Council member of the FA was charged for his remarks on referee Maxwell Hanson on social media when he alleged the latter is the GFA’s man for ‘dirty works.’
This follows the referee’s performance in Accra Lions’ defeat to Dreams FC which led to the former calling for urgent reforms to the Ghana Premier League.
In response to the charge levelled against him by the FA, Anim Addo says he is ready for the consequences of his actions.
“I am a law-abiding citizen and I respect every rule of the game so when the time comes for me to respond, I will do that in accordance with the regulations,” he said on Joy News’ Prime Sports.
“But what I’m saying is that the video is there for us all to see. If it is good, then that’s up to all of us.”
Ghanaian rapper and musician,Amerado Burner, has asserted that he was the first successful rapper in Ghana to make a successful switch to highlife music.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on January 9, 2025, Amerado said he led the way for other artists like Fameye and King Paluta to explore highlife.
He further explained that his creativity helped him become the first artist in 2024 to dominate the music charts with hit highlife songs like “Kweku Ananse” and its remix.
“In January 2024, ‘Kweku Ananse’ and its remix were both in the top ten on all major music platforms, which was unprecedented. I was the first artist in 2024 to achieve that, and I’m incredibly humbled to see artists like King Paluta and Fameye now embracing highlife music,” he said.
Amerado also pointed out the decline in Nigerian music’s dominance on Ghana’s charts, adding, “Gone are the days when Nigerian songs were dominating our charts.
Now, people are tuning into more Ghanaian music, and I’m happy to see that.”
The “Kweku Ananse” hitmaker further addressed rumours about him being a “confused” musician, explaining that his ability to rap and sing is part of his versatility.
“I don’t like to stay in my comfort zone. As a kid, I always wanted to try new things and challenge myself. When I was rapping, I often featured artists who sang the chorus, but I also wrote their choruses. I’ve always had the desire to sing and rap simultaneously. Sometimes you need to grow and discover yourself, but that doesn’t mean I’ve switched from rapping entirely,” he emphasised.
He continued, “If I can rap and sing together, why limit myself? We live in a society where people want to see you focus on one thing. But if rapping and singing work for me, it could mean I’m just lucky. Let’s replace confusion with beingdynamic.”
Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has shared that his personal experience has helped him understand why MPs need sirens to navigate through traffic.
A Plus admitted that he had previously opposed the idea of MPs being granted the legal right to use sirens. However, after spending just a few days in office, his perspective has changed.
“It is not an easy task at all. Today, for instance, I was with the President in my constituency. The Ahmadiyya Muslim community had their annual convention.
You know it’s in my constituency; that’s where they have it—in Gomoa Pomadze. I had to be at the convention and in Parliament at the same time.
“I remember that before I entered Parliament, I was complaining about MPs and why they wanted sirens. I called my friend, who is a dispatch rider. I said, ‘Where are you?’ He said, ‘I am at my place.’
I said, ‘Please, I need you to take me out of this traffic and get me to the constituency now and bring me back to Parliament,’” A Plus stated during an interview on Joy FM.
He explained that his experience has helped him realize why lawmakers have been pushing for permission to use sirens.
He highlighted the difficulties they face in fulfilling their responsibilities while trying to avoid heavy traffic.
“So I came to understand why they were… and can you imagine someone whose constituency is in, say, Paga, and you have to go there with the President and then come back to Parliament?
I think that I am in a position to explain what happens in Parliament and what parliamentarians go through very well to the public,” he added.
Ghanaian musician Amerado has waded into the conversation about who wins Artiste of the Year at the 2025Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
The ‘Kwaku Ananse’ hit maker shared a post of his activities in the year 2024 with the caption: “Amerado in 2024, Artiste Of The Year conversation without Amerado under the 2024 year of Review is an exposure of ignorance and consequently brutal to the industry and upcoming ones.”

Other artists being discussed in the conversation include King Paluta, King Promise, Stonebwoy, Team Eternity Ghana, DopeNation, Kofi Kinaata, and Fameye.
According to the Telecel Ghana Music Awards definition, “The Artiste of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the artiste with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the year under review.

He stated that the evidence will soon be submitted to President John Dramani Mahama for the next steps.
A few weeks ago, President Mahama appointed Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Nathan Kofi Boakye, Martin Kpebu, Raymond Archer, and Daniel Domelevo to investigate and gather evidence on state capture and misuse of assets.
Speaking to the press in the Eastern Region, Ablakwa expressed confidence in the team’s work, describing it as successful and emphasizing their determination to hold those responsible accountable.
“We will not disclose the nature of our achievements until we have presented our report to His Excellency the President.
When we present our report, at that presentation, the Ghanaian people will see the tremendous work that has gone on and the extent of the loot and how all of us collectively have worked successfully to make sure that the evidence is put together, is coordinated to make sure that our attorney general and our institutions help us torecover these loots.”
Owner of Young Apostles FC, Samuel Anim Addo, has been accused of misconduct by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following his statements against the body.
In a statement released on January 9, 2024, the GFA explained that Anim Addo’s comments violated specific regulations outlined in Articles 34(6)(d) and 38(8)(c) of the league’s rules.
The association stated that these allegations harmed their reputation, and as a result, they have asked Anim Addo to provide evidence to support his claims.
“Samuel Anim Addo has been charged with breach of Articles 34(6)(d) and 38(8)(c) of the GFA Ghana Premier League Regulations, 2019, following his commentary on his social media account on X.

He has until Monday, January 13, 2024, to respond to the charges,” the statement read.
The charges follow Anim Addo’s claim that GFA officialsthreatened to relegate his club if he continued to criticize refereeing.
He explained that the threats came after he criticized Referee Maxwell Hanson’s poor officiating during the Accra Lions’ match against Dreams FC, which sparked controversy.

Former Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi,has expressed his approval of President John Mahama’s ministerial nominations for key positions such as Finance Minister, Attorney General, and Energy Minister.
He noted that President Mahama displayed careful thought and diligence in selecting his ministers.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Upfront on Thursday, January 9, Mr. Appiah-Kubi praised the President for prioritizing merit in his appointments, emphasizing that this is the kind of leadership expected from every president.
“I’m very happy that the President has been very careful in selecting his ministers so far. And I want to commend him for prioritizing competence, integrity, and knowledge,” he stated.
Mr. Appiah-Kubi shared these comments after President Mahama nominated Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister-designate, John Abdulai Jinapor as Energy Minister-designate, and Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate.
The nominees previously served as deputy ministers in the same roles during the NDC’s last administration.
Mr. Appiah-Kubipraised the nominees as highly competent and expressed confidence in their ability to excel in their respective ministries.
Meanwhile, the office has emphasised that the government has not and will not contract any company or individual to produce framed pictures of the official portrait in bulk for distribution.
The Mahama administration may request additional financial support from theInternational Monetary Fund(IMF) under its ongoing three-year programme to strengthen the economy.
Finance Minister-designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson revealed this on Thursday.
President John Mahama, who was inaugurated this week after defeating the ruling party’s candidate in the December elections, has appointed the former minority leader in Parliament to take on the crucial role of Finance Minister.
“We are committed to work with the IMF, but we also want to ensure that we can raise financing; additional finance, working with IMF and other domestic, international partners,” Forson, told reporters, ahead of a meeting with an IMF team that is currently visiting Accra.
“The reliance on Treasury bills and others has not been very helpful,” said Forson, who also served as a deputy finance minister before.
The IMF has yet to respond to requests for comment.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, 46, a chartered accountant with a master’s degree in taxation from Oxford and a doctorate in finance from a local university, stated that the new government plans to reduce public spending as part of efforts to bring down inflation.
“There is a lot of wastage in the system and we will cut them,” he said, adding that the move will also help the government to restart domestic bond issuance by mid-year.
Ghana, a major producer of gold and cocoa in West Africa, defaulted on most of its external debt in 2022, resulting in a difficult restructuring process that is now nearing completion.
Finance Minister-designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson stated that Mahama’s administration plans to finalize the process by reaching an agreement with the country’s non-Eurobond commercial creditors.
REVISITING IMF DEAL President John Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s leader from 2012 to 2017, had promised during his campaign to renegotiate the terms of Ghana’s bailout deal with the IMF.
However, many market analysts believe he has little flexibility and is unlikely to abandon the current IMF programme despite his campaign statements.
His pledge is similar to promises made by other reformist leaders elected last year in emerging markets, such asSri Lanka’s Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who also vowed to revisit the terms of an IMF programme and debt restructuring.
Mahama has committed to quickly forming a government capable of addressing public dissatisfaction by strengthening the economy and creating more job opportunities.
Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Sammy Anim Addo has strongly criticized the GFA, accusing referee Maxwell Hanson of being involved in questionable practices after Accra Lions complained about his officiating in their 1-0 loss to Dreams FC.
Accra Lions expressed frustration, claiming they were unfairly treated and calling for changes in Ghanaian football. Dreams FC, however, defended Hanson, suggesting that poor officiating is something all clubs face at times.
Anim Addo, now President of Young Apostles, joined the criticism, calling Hanson a “hatchet man.” He shared on X how GFA officials had previously silenced him when he raised concerns about officiating.
MAXWELL HANSON IS THEIR MAN FOR ´DIRTY’ WORKS.
Ghana’s focus the last few weeks has been about the last general elections and inauguration of a new set of political and governance leaders many consider a new dawn following diverse challenges for years now.
“Maxwell Hanson is their man for ‘dirty works,’” Anim Addo wrote. “I sounded the alarm bells months ago but I was vehemently challenged with every attempt to ‘shush’ me by the leadership of Ghana Football… His disgraceful conduct undermines the league’s quality.”
Anim Addo further alleged that he had been threatened with relegation for speaking out, stating, “I have been threatened many times already that this GFA administration will ensure foul means to relegate my club, Young Apostles.
But, I want to sound caution to them, that, it is not the worst they can do to me and my continuous investment and commitment to Ghana football.”
The controversy surrounding Hanson’s decisions during the Dreams FC vs. Accra Lions matchhas sparked widespread reactions, with fans and stakeholders expressing dissatisfaction with his officiating.

We are praying for him; although these people have damaged many things, we hope that God will empower him to accomplish his work,” the entertainment expert stated.
He expressed his hope that President Mahama will lead positive changes despite the current challenges.

In an interview , Manu stated that he believes the NPP will not allow Dr. Bawumia to run for president again. He suggested that Nana Addo had played a key role in promoting Bawumia’s rise to prominence.
Manu further claimed that with Nana Addo no longer in power, the party would use its resources to maintain control.
“As Nana Addo has left the NPP party, the party won’t allow Dr. Bawumia to stand for the president again. They feel like because Nana Addo is the president, he used his power to bring in Dr. Bawumia, so now that he is no longer in power, they would use their money and power to show him that the party was for them.
“Now, even the NPP members, when they meet Nana Addo an
d he misbehaves, they will tell him, ‘When you’re on the seat that’s when you have power, so since you’re no longer on the seat, nobody is scared of you,’” he said.
Reflecting on his past support for the NPP, Manu criticised Nana Addo’s handling of certain issues with chiefs and kings, implying that it was not appropriate.
“Sometimes, I can’t just believe that Nana Addo is not our president anymore. I remember campaigning for the NPP before, and the influence the party had in the country was strong. But the way Nana Addo handled certain things with the chiefs and kings wasn’t right,” he added.

Prophet Ebenezer Yiadom, popularly known as Opambour, has voiced his displeasure with the organizers of President John Dramani Mahama’sinauguration ceremony.
In a video circulating on social media, Prophet Opambour criticized the setup of the location where President Mahama and Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang took their oaths, describing it as poorly planned.
He expressed concern that the President and his Vice stood under the scorching sun throughout the ceremony, emphasizing that the organizers should have provided adequate shade to ensure their comfort.
“The organisation didn’t go well. When the President and his Vice were taking their oath, they were in the sun, and that was bad. Even the Chief Justice was also in the sun. That was one of the things I didn’t like about the ceremony. For now, I will only mention this, but I’ll speak about the other issues at a later time,” he said.
Prophet Opambour also disclosed what he did when he got home after the event.
“After the inauguration ceremony, I finished the work God gave me concerning John Dramani Mahama. As soon as I got home, I sat on the floor to give thanks to God for not allowing the evil deeds of some pastors in the country to manifest,” he added.

Founder of the Prophetic Hill Chapel, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, has asserted that his devotion to prayer and fasting significantly contributed to President John Mahama’s return to power and the groundbreaking election of Ghana’s first female Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
In a Facebook post celebrating the realization of his long-standing prophecy, Prophet Gaisie disclosed that he undertook a year-long fast to secure spiritual victory for the Mahama-led NDC.
“I fasted for an entire year. I committed my life, my energy and my prayers to ensure the will of God, which is Mahama’s victory, would manifest.”
He recalled the mockery he faced when he first made the prophesy, adding that its manifestation proves he is a true prophet of God.
“We were the first to see it. We were the first to invest in it. We took all the bullets. We stood firm despite all the ridicule, the mockery and the doubts from every corner. And today, the evidence is right before our eyes. The prophecy I declared nearly eight and half years ago has come to pass, and no one can deny it.
By the mercies of God, I,Prophet Nigel Gaisie, was the first to see it. I boldly spoke of it, even when others laughed. I declared that Ghana would have a female vice president, and I said it would be with John Mahama”.
Prophet Gaisie extended his congratulations to President Mahama and Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, urging Ghanaians to place their trust in divine guidance for the nation’s future.
He also emphasized the importance of acknowledging the spiritual battles underlying political victories and called on believers to pray for the new government’s success in transforming the country.

“This isn’t just a crisis but a failed work. A failure of an industry to protect its own. Arsenal fans are upset with midfielderThomas Partey after the team’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at the Emirates on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
The 31-year-old returned to his regular midfield position after playing as a right-back in the previous match against Brighton, with fans hoping for a solid performance.
However, Partey struggled to make an impact in the game and was substituted after 60 minutes, with Jorginho replacing him.
Jorginho immediately improved the team’s play, creating more chances, completing more touches, and making more accurate passes during his short time on the field.
Thomas Partey has been an important player for Arsenal in many matches, receiving praise for his efforts. However, his recent performance led to strong criticism from fans, who shared their frustrations on social media.
Some fans felt that Partey was unfairly blamed for the team’s overall poor performance, while others felt he didn’t meet expectations and played below his usual standard.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta remains confident that his team can still make it to the Carabao Cup final, despite admitting that they need to get better at handling the “tricky” ball used in the competition.
The Gunners suffered a 2-0 loss to Newcastle in the first leg of the semi-final on Tuesday, with goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon sealing the win for the Magpies.
Arsenal created a lot of chances, taking 23 shots during the match. However, only three were on target. Gabriel Martinelli hit the post, and Kai Havertz missed a golden opportunity with a wayward header.
In his post-match press conference, Arteta addressed the missed opportunities, stating that he wouldn’t ask his players to change their approach but highlighted the challenges posed by the ball used in the tournament.
“We kicked a lot of balls over the bar, and it’s tricky that these balls fly a lot so there’s details that we can do better,” he said.
“But at the end that’s gone – there’s no way back, it’s about the next game and that’s our world, the reality is our world.
“It’s just half-time. When I see the team play, and how we deal with a lot of situations and play against a very good team, I must say I have full belief that we can go out there and do it.”
Prior to the defeat by Newcastle, the Gunners had scored 11 goals in three EFL Cup ties so far this season.
The ball in the competition is made by Puma, while the ball used in the Premier League is manufactured by Nike.
“It’s just different,” said Arteta when asked to go into more detail about the ball.
“It’s very different to a Premier League ball, and you have to adapt to that because it flies different.
“When you touch it the grip is very different as well, so you adapt to that.”

The Swiss coach, who was appointed in 2023, decided not to renew her contract and has now taken up a three-year role as head coach of Zambia’s Copper Queens.

Instead, she insisted on a 100% salary raise as a condition for staying with the team.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) met Nora Hauptle to discuss a possible extension of her contract and with the offer we presented to her, she was demanding a 100 per cent increment but we offered her 50 per cent since it was the FA who has been paying her since her appointment,” Asante Twum told Asempa FM.
“We tried our best to extend her contract but she was unwilling to accept what we presented. And being a professional coach, she had the right to walk away since her contract had ended,” he added.
Under the guidance of Nora Hauptle, the Black Queens have qualified for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) which is scheduled to be hosted in Morocco later this year.

“Yes, it is true we owe him [Otto Addo]. The last time I checked, there were some salaries in arrears, thus four months if we add December 2023. About Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony
The inauguration of President-electJohn Dramani Mahamaon Tuesday, January 7, 2025, is being celebrated as a significant event, attracting attention both in Ghana and globally.
The ceremony, marking Mahama’s return to the presidency, is set to welcome 21 Heads of State, 3 Vice Presidents, 4 Ministers, and 24 ambassadors, reflecting the international recognition of Ghana’s political change.
A statement from the Ministry of Information confirmed that the event will host many prominent figures from around the world.
Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, has made it clear that the banking licenses that were revoked during the financial sector reforms of 2017–2019 will not be restored as long as he is in office.
In an interview with JoyNews on January 2, 2025, Dr. Addison responded to calls for the reinstatement of the revoked licenses, declaring, “As long as I am Governor, none of those licenses will be reinstated.”
His comments addressed inquiries about whether the incoming government might consider reinstating the licenses following appeals from shareholders of the affected banks.
Dr. Addison emphasized that the license revocations were based on thorough assessments of the banks’ operations, which revealed significant issues, including risky investments and poor management of depositor funds.
“These shareholders treated depositors’ money as their own, using it to fund personal businesses or invest in brick-and-mortar projects that were not liquid enough to make resources available when depositors needed their funds,” Dr. Addison stated.
During the financial reforms, the Bank of Ghana revoked the licenses of nine universal banks, 347 microfinance companies, 39 microcredit companies, 23 savings and loans firms, and eight finance houses.
Some of these companies were merged to form Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG).
Dr. Addison emphasized that the failed institutions showed poor management, which broke the fundamental rules of banking.
“When I give you a banking license, I am giving you permission to take people’s money, not to treat it as your private property,” he added, reiterating that protecting depositors and preserving financial stability are the central bank’s core responsibilities.
Dr. Addison further noted, “These are not numbers we generated ourselves,” referencing data from Ghana’s Statistical Service to highlight the beneficial effects of the reforms on the financial industry.
He warned that reinstating the revoked licenses would jeopardize the stability of the industry and criticized efforts to downplay the necessity of the reforms.
“A banking licenseis a special instrument, and the responsibilities it comes with must be taken seriously,” he concluded.

Out of respect for his former team, Ayew chose not to celebrate his goal.
This goal was his first of the 2024/25 league season.

Ghanaian economist Dr. Sa-ad Iddrisu has cautioned that the incomingNational Democratic Congress (NDC) government may face a serious banking crisis due to the fragile state of the financial sector.
Speaking on Joy News’ AM Show on Monday, January 6, 2025, Dr. Iddrisu highlighted unresolved issues within the banking industry that could create significant challenges for the new administration.
He also criticized the outgoing Akufo-Addo government for failing to fulfill its promise of creating a GH¢1.5 billion Ghana Financial Stability Fund.
This fund was intended to provide relief to struggling banks but was never implemented.
Dr. Iddrisu noted that without this support, the financial sector remains weak, with banks suffering major losses under the current leadership.
“Banks have made losses amounting to GH¢60 billion, including the Bank of Ghana itself,” Dr. Iddrisu stated. “This is not an economy that is doing well. If the financial sector was healthy, such massive losses would not be recorded.”
He noted that the promised stability fund, which was supposed to help stabilize the sector, has not been fully established, adding that the outgoing government has only secured a partial commitment of $250 million from the World Bank, which is not fully there yet.
“This is just one example. If the economy was truly performing well, we wouldn’t be leaving such massive debts for the next administration to inherit,” he said.
The economist expressed concern over the government’s focus on GDP growth as a measure of economic success.
He asserted that while the outgoing administration has announced a GDP growth rate of 7%, the figure does not reflect the overall growth of the economy.
“An economy cannot be judged solely by its growth rate. GDP growth does not necessarily mean the population is doing well. Other critical sectors, like energy and banking, tell a different story,” he explained.
He criticized the government for concentrating too much on growth figures, pointing out that a deeper look at the economy shows serious problems.
Dr. Iddrisu warned that if immediate steps aren’t taken to fix the financial instability, the NDC government will inherit a collapsed banking sector.
“The NDC is likely to face serious banking crises if the stability fund is not established. Handing over a weakened financial sector and massive debts is not the mark of an economy that is doing well,” he remarked.
Ghanaian socialite Rosemond Alade Brown, widely known as Akuapem Poloo, has admitted regretting past controversial remarks she made about Fella Makafui and Wendy Shay.
In an interview with Zionfelix, Akuapem Poloo shared that her harsh comments deeply strained her relationship with the two personalities, leaving it beyond repair.
“Although my relationship with them was cordial at the time, some things I said to disgrace and disrespect them have completely ruined that connection,” she stated.
Akuapem Poloo shared her pain over how the fallout, resulting from her actions, has caused her to be unable to maintain the rapport she once enjoyed with Fella and Wendy.
“I can’t pick up the phone and call them like I used to because the relationship is gone,” she lamented.
The actress expressed regret over her past remarks, calling them inappropriate and unnecessary.
She admitted that her words have created a lasting rift, making it hard to rebuild relationships with people she once looked up to and respected.
She reflected sadly on how, in the past, they could easily rely on each other for support. Unfortunately, that connection is now broken, and such interactions no longer happen.
Chelsea are reportedly looking to bring back Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.
The 24-year-old, who left Chelsea for Palace in 2021 in an £18m deal, is now on the Blues’ shortlist of defensive targets. This development comes under the club’s current ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
While Palace have not received any formal approach, Guehi’s representatives are aware of Chelsea’s interest. The defender has 18 months remaining on his five-year contract signed upon joining Palace.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Guehi reflects their broader search for a central defender, either in January or during the summer transfer window. The urgency has increased following Wesley Fofana’s severe hamstring injury, which manager Enzo Maresca believes could sideline him for the rest of the season.
However, sources close to Fofana are optimistic he could return to action much sooner than expected.
Chelsea are facing a defensive shortage, with Benoit Badiashile sidelined until at least February.
Marc Guehi, who has become a key player for Crystal Palace and England, is now a potential target for the Blues.
Guehi, 24, only made two senior appearances for Chelsea in the EFL Cup back in 2019 before moving on loan to Swansea City in the Championship. He later joined Palace, where he has flourished and earned 22 caps for England.

Meanwhile, Chelsea mayalso consider recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Palace to strengthen their defense. Additionally, Argentinian defender Aaron Anselmino has been brought back from his loan stint at Boca Juniors.
